- 0:00Speaker 1: I know I heard a story that I think, well,
- 0:03Speaker 1: you told me this. I'm saying I heard a story,
- 0:05Speaker 1: but you told me this. How did things fare like
- 0:07Speaker 1: with some of your first marriages? How did things like
- 0:10Speaker 1: when you look back on your love life, what do
- 0:12Speaker 1: you think maybe could have been a little bit different?
- 0:14Speaker 1: I know you said that you kind of gave more
- 0:16Speaker 1: maybe than you got it felt like at times or
- 0:18Speaker 1: like you got to have both people loving just as
- 0:21Speaker 1: much to make it work. But do you have any
- 0:24Speaker 1: thoughts on it looking back on love? Because having four marriages,
- 0:27Speaker 1: that's a lot of experience, you know?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Well, but it certainly doesn't make me very good at it.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I've got a pretty bad track record. You know, so
- 0:45Speaker 2: don't take any advice from me, man. I'm no authority
- 0:48Speaker 2: on what makes everything great.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Did you learn anything along the way, though? Like, really? Well, sure.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I mean, you learn what not to do, you know.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Well, that didn't work. That was bad.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Did you take any of it to heart, you think? Because,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I mean, I, you know.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of the bad stuff that I used
- 1:09Speaker 2: to do, I don't do anymore. Amen. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 1: But. And I heard that one of your wives, I
- 1:16Speaker 1: don't even know how to say this, shot, that they
- 1:19Speaker 1: shot you. Is that true?
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that took it a little far, I thought. It
- 1:25Speaker 2: was just, that was uncalled for.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 2: That was totally uncalled for. Just leave. Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 1: That's a true story.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Let's just call it quits. We don't have to go
- 1:36Speaker 2: that far.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Do you think she shot you with the intent to
- 1:41Speaker 1: take it?
- 1:42Speaker 2: I don't think so, man. I don't think she even
- 1:44Speaker 2: had any idea what that gun was going to do.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I'd never seen her hold a gun. I'd never seen
- 1:51Speaker 2: her shoot a gun. I knew she had one, but.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'd never seen her use it. I mean, I had
- 1:58Speaker 2: a bunch of guns, still have a bunch of guns,
- 2:00Speaker 2: and I shoot them pretty often, but I'd never seen
- 2:06Speaker 2: her do that. I just don't think she knew what
- 2:10Speaker 2: was about to happen when she pulled that trigger. She
- 2:13Speaker 2: thought it was a toy.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Was she saying anything as she was pulling it? Was
- 2:18Speaker 1: she pulling it like in a fit of anger, or
- 2:20Speaker 1: was she just kind of?
- 2:20Speaker 2: She was mad, yeah. Okay. Okay. Wanted me to leave,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and I wasn't going to leave. So that's how it
- 2:28Speaker 2: went down.
- 2:30Speaker 1: How did it hit you?
- 2:31Speaker 2: She put it under my left arm, and the bullet
- 2:33Speaker 2: came out under my right arm, so it went straight through.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Did you have your hands up or something like that?
- 2:38Speaker 2: I had this hand out like that, reaching for it.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I told her to give me the gun. She just
- 2:43Speaker 2: shot me.
- 2:43Speaker 1: What did it feel like, like a bee biting you?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Man, I think when one is that serious, your body
- 2:55Speaker 2: protects you. You just go into shock. You don't really
- 2:58Speaker 2: feel anything. I just remember getting up off the floor
- 3:02Speaker 2: and then taking a few steps and then going back down.
- 3:06Speaker 2: That's all I remember.
- 3:07Speaker 1: You blacked out? Yeah. No way. Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I mean, yeah. So, yeah, I didn't really feel like
- 3:16Speaker 2: it really hurt me, you know.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And where did it go through your body?
- 3:22Speaker 2: It went under this arm, came out this arm, so
- 3:24Speaker 2: it went straight through. It went straight through my heart
- 3:26Speaker 2: and both my lungs.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Nuh-uh. Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh, my God. It was a kill shot. And the
- 3:34Speaker 2: only reason that I survived was because the doctor said
- 3:37Speaker 2: the only reason I survived was because the bullet went
- 3:39Speaker 2: through at point-blank velocity, at muzzle velocity, so it didn't
- 3:44Speaker 2: have time to mushroom. It was just. you know, muzzle velocity,
- 3:47Speaker 2: so it just went straight through.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Oh, I see. And after that, it would have mushroomed.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Damn, bro. Thank God she shot you so close then.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 1: In a way, I mean, that's crazy to say. Sorry. God,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm just not good at supporting people. Like verbally, you know?
- 4:06Speaker 2: No, I don't need any support anymore. That was a
- 4:10Speaker 2: long time ago.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Was the healing, what's that like when you get shot
- 4:13Speaker 1: right through the heart? Oh, my God.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Well, that was the hard part. That's the part that hurt,
- 4:15Speaker 2: you know? the healing up and stuff. I mean, cause
- 4:19Speaker 2: when I went to Vanderbilt, they live flighted me to Vanderbilt.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And so when they do the trauma surgery, they just
- 4:25Speaker 2: cut you and just crack you open.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You know, could you feel any of it?
- 4:29Speaker 2: No, of course not. I was out. But so the
- 4:32Speaker 2: recovery from something like that though, man, that hurts, you know,
- 4:36Speaker 2: cause they don't care. They just, they stretch everything and
- 4:39Speaker 2: break stuff and they're just trying to get you open
- 4:42Speaker 2: to get to your heart, to save your life.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Oh, I see.
- 4:45Speaker 2: So, And thank God, you know, if I hadn't been
- 4:50Speaker 2: for that live flight in Vanderbilt Medical Center, I wouldn't
- 4:52Speaker 2: be here. So it took a long time to recover
- 4:56Speaker 2: from that. And then six months later, I had to
- 4:59Speaker 2: have another open heart surgery because they had to put
- 5:01Speaker 2: a Dacron patch over that hole in my septum because
- 5:04Speaker 2: it didn't heal up. Because when they went in in
- 5:08Speaker 2: the beginning, they sealed the hole on this side of
- 5:12Speaker 2: my heart and sealed the hole on the other side
- 5:13Speaker 2: of my heart where the bullet went through, but they didn't.
- 5:16Speaker 2: sealed the hole in my septum. Damn. So six months later,
- 5:21Speaker 2: I had to go back. And that one was a
- 5:23Speaker 2: lot easier, though, because they took their time and very careful.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Right. Time isn't of the essence as much.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry I said that about you.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I actually walked out of the hospital the next day.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Did you? That one wasn't so bad.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And did she ever apologize to you? Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Did you forgive her, you think?
- 5:44Speaker 2: I think so. You know, I've just always felt like
- 5:47Speaker 2: I don't think she meant to do it, man. I
- 5:49Speaker 2: don't think. I just don't think that she thought it
- 5:53Speaker 2: was going to hurt me. She thought I was indestructible,
- 5:57Speaker 2: you know.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Dang.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah. That's wild, man. Anyway.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Did anything like that ever happen again or not? No.
- 6:08Speaker 2: No, I never got shot again.
- 6:12Speaker 1: That's a blessing then. You got to see the blessings. Yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Nobody shot at me in a while. That's good.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying, man. That's the kind of
- 6:24Speaker 1: stuff we need, man.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I guess you can always say that. How you doing? Well,
- 6:29Speaker 2: ain't nobody shot at me today. That's good.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And your third wife's Canadian, right?
- 6:35Speaker 2: Fourth wife, yeah, Canadian.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And your fourth wife's Canadian, yeah, which is maybe you
- 6:38Speaker 1: got her.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So my first wife was from Louisiana. My second wife
- 6:41Speaker 2: was from Arkansas. My third wife was from Illinois. My
- 6:44Speaker 2: fourth wife's from Canada. So I'm just like my fifth
- 6:47Speaker 2: wife's going to be an Eskimo.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 2: You know, I just keep working on up, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 2: going to be a hot Eskimo chick. Yeah. You know.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Well, you're moving up to the Arctic, man. Well, I guess,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and at least you got a Canadian because they can't
- 7:04Speaker 1: even own guns, you know, because they don't have any guns.
- 7:06Speaker 1: That's probably a good.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I didn't even think about that. That's a plus.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Canadians are good, and they have great posture. Have
- 7:14Speaker 1: you ever noticed that about Canadians? Most of them are
- 7:16Speaker 1: pretty polite. Not so much with my wife, but a lot.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Of them are, you know.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I've heard that all.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Very, very polite, and they're always saying, I'm sorry.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry. Oh, I've had a Canadian come across the street.
- 7:29Speaker 1: They didn't even do anything. They just said, hey, sorry.
- 7:31Speaker 1: and then went back across the street. Came over just
- 7:34Speaker 1: to apologize, in case they ever did anything, I guess.
- 7:37Speaker 1: That's pretty cool of them, which apologize.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I think they were coming over just and they looked
- 7:43Speaker 2: at you and went, sorry.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's probably right.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I think that's what you mistook that for. Maybe you
- 7:51Speaker 2: had wronged them in some way. I think they just
- 7:53Speaker 2: felt sorry for you.
- 7:55Speaker 1: They probably could have, man. And that's what I get
- 7:57Speaker 1: for buying some of those sandals from the dams. From
- 8:00Speaker 1: the damn Blake Shelton sandal collection. Yeah. That's what did
- 8:04Speaker 1: me in. Yeah.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Were you wearing them at the time? Yes, I was.
- 8:06Speaker 2: That's why they came over. Oh, man. I knew you
- 8:11Speaker 2: weren't ever going to get laid.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, there's nothing sadder than some woman invites you
- 8:18Speaker 1: over and it's got to be sad she opens it
- 8:20Speaker 1: and doesn't see those sandals on.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Just bam. Yeah. Unless he's carrying the cannolis from Ferrari,
- 8:28Speaker 2: and then she let him on in.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, every now and then, we did have a dessert.
- 8:33Speaker 2: A little cannoli action. Oh, it'll show up.
- 8:36Speaker 1: If the women weren't interested, but they were semi-interested, we'd
- 8:39Speaker 1: leave half a cannoli in a little box there on
- 8:41Speaker 1: the welcome mat.
- 8:43Speaker 2: A little 11-year-old gigolo going around with a bunch of
- 8:47Speaker 2: Italian food.
- 8:49Speaker 1: If they didn't have a pet, because otherwise pets would
- 8:52Speaker 1: get into them. You'd see Gary Busey with his damn
- 8:55Speaker 1: bus and damn cannoli all over his chin.
