- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome to Opposition Territory here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:27Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:30Speaker 1: in the world, twelve years strong, actually about twelve and
- 0:33Speaker 1: a half years strong at this point. We've got a
- 0:35Speaker 1: great Opposition Territory pod coming your way this week as
- 0:38Speaker 1: we preview this upcoming Week eight New York Giants and
- 0:42Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles game that's going to be taking place at
- 0:45Speaker 1: Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday. We've got a great guest
- 0:48Speaker 1: and we've had him on before. Been a little while.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I've been on his podcast, Valentine's Views over at Big
- 0:54Speaker 1: Blue view dot com. S Our good friend ed Valentine, Buddy,
- 0:58Speaker 1: thanks so much for jumping on on, man. I appreciate it.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Hey, thank you for having me. You know it's uh,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I gotta get over this heartbreak from from Sunville. We're
- 1:08Speaker 2: gonna get into it. Yeah, you gotta this. Believe it
- 1:11Speaker 2: or not. This believe it or not, this is therapy.
- 1:13Speaker 2: It'll help me move on there you go.
- 1:16Speaker 1: You know what, when we do our postgame shows after
- 1:18Speaker 1: we lost to the to I say we as though
- 1:20Speaker 1: I'm on the Eagles team, but after us fans had
- 1:23Speaker 1: to watch that loss to the Giants, the loss to
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Broncos as well. It's therapeutic getting in front of
- 1:28Speaker 1: these microphones here and talking about this. So I mean,
- 1:31Speaker 1: let's let's get into the therapy stuff here. Yeah, I
- 1:35Speaker 1: mean you talked about it. The Giants game last week
- 1:38Speaker 1: against the Broncos probably the biggest heartbreaker of a regular
- 1:44Speaker 1: season game I think any fan base has probably had
- 1:47Speaker 1: to go through. I mean, Giants fans, they've had a
- 1:51Speaker 1: lot of hope over the past few weeks because of
- 1:53Speaker 1: Jackson Dart and his ability to revitalize things offensively. But
- 1:56Speaker 1: I mean, I'm wondering, as we're moving into Week eight here,
- 2:00Speaker 1: what do you think that loss against the Broncos did
- 2:03Speaker 1: to this Giants team as they look towards the Philadelphia
- 2:06Speaker 1: Eagles this week and some other upcoming games as well.
- 2:09Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Well, first, I have to say this, when you look
- 2:14Speaker 2: at this epic collapse by the Giants, all right, if
- 2:18Speaker 2: you're going to collapse, all right, you might as well
- 2:22Speaker 2: collapse in historic, epic, forever memorable fashions. And when one,
- 2:29Speaker 2: six and two straight teams have managed to protect an
- 2:32Speaker 2: eighteen point lead with less than six minutes to go. Yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 2: and you fail to do that, you have certainly done
- 2:40Speaker 2: something in spectacular fashion. Yes, and so, and and for me,
- 2:45Speaker 2: since your since your viewership, your listenership is intimately familiar
- 2:51Speaker 2: with some of these games. This is right up there
- 2:54Speaker 2: with the fumble. Yes, right right up there with with
- 2:59Speaker 2: the Hunter who shall not be named kicking to the
- 3:03Speaker 2: to the Sean Jackson to the kick off to the
- 3:06Speaker 2: kick returner who shall not be named. Yes, and and
- 3:10Speaker 2: the the two thousand and two trade junkin playoff game. Oh, yes,
- 3:16Speaker 2: that's right. It's it's right up there with all of those.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And now to your question, how do I think this
- 3:24Speaker 2: is going to impact the Giants. I don't think that
- 3:31Speaker 2: you can have something like this happen and not have
- 3:35Speaker 2: some sort of a hangover. Yeah, okay, I don't. I
- 3:39Speaker 2: don't think that, especially defensively. Okay, you you can't have
- 3:46Speaker 2: some sort of a hang of a hangover where, you know,
- 3:50Speaker 2: even if things are going well, you start to wonder
- 3:54Speaker 2: when it's going to fall apart. You know. The shame
- 3:58Speaker 2: of it is, you count the Eagle game. You look
- 4:01Speaker 2: at the Broncos game. That defense, which is a tremendously
- 4:05Speaker 2: talented group, had just put together five consecutive scoreless quarters
- 4:13Speaker 2: and then they gave up thirty three points. And I
- 4:19Speaker 2: took the time on Tuesday afternoon to go through, starting
- 4:23Speaker 2: with I think two minutes and forty one seconds left
- 4:26Speaker 2: in the third quarter, every defensive play, and forget all
- 4:32Speaker 2: the yelling at defensive coordinator Shane Bowen about rush three
- 4:36Speaker 2: and drop eight. I can probably count between mistackles, missed assignments,
- 4:43Speaker 2: defensive penalties, plays that should have been made that weren't made.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I can probably count at least twenty defensive mistakes in
- 4:55Speaker 2: the last seventeen minutes of that game, or twenty opportunities
- 4:59Speaker 2: where defense either helped the Broncos or you know, had
- 5:05Speaker 2: opportunities to to salt the game away and didn't do it. Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 2: and it's just so I don't want to hear about
- 5:11Speaker 2: this is Shane Bowen's fault. Yeah, yeah, you know, he
- 5:14Speaker 2: made he made a call that that that still makes
- 5:19Speaker 2: a lot of people shake their heads. But the defensive
- 5:22Speaker 2: players put him in position to make that call.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Right right, absolutely, Look, might there be a hangover with
- 5:28Speaker 1: the Giants, like you were saying heading into this Week
- 5:30Speaker 1: eight matchup against the Eagles, Possibly, but you know, I
- 5:34Speaker 1: think you know in the games that I have seen
- 5:35Speaker 1: with the New York Giants, I've certainly seen some strengths.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I've certainly seen some weaknesses as well, So let's get
- 5:41Speaker 1: into those in our Opposition Territory pod here every week
- 5:45Speaker 1: when we're doing our preview show, we like to get
- 5:47Speaker 1: into this two part question. So let's start with the
- 5:49Speaker 1: biggest strength. What is the biggest strength of the New
- 5:52Speaker 1: York Giants as we're you know, almost here at the
- 5:54Speaker 1: mid midway point of this season, what what is that
- 5:56Speaker 1: biggest strength?
- 5:58Speaker 2: Well, it's interesting because had you asked me that question
- 6:01Speaker 2: two weeks ago, when you had you know, big reviews
- 6:05Speaker 2: Chris Flumman on your show, had you asked me that
- 6:08Speaker 2: question two weeks ago, I would have given you a
- 6:10Speaker 2: different answer than I'm about to give you. I would
- 6:13Speaker 2: have said, the biggest strength of this football team is
- 6:18Speaker 2: Dexter Lawrence and the edge defender trio of Kevon Thibodeau,
- 6:24Speaker 2: Brian Burns and Abdual Carter defensive line. Absolutely, And I
- 6:29Speaker 2: still think that you could answer the question that way.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But as I look at what's happening with this team
- 6:38Speaker 2: and what's developing with this team, you know what, I
- 6:41Speaker 2: think the biggest strength of this team actually is Jackson Dart.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It's the reasons and it's it's not the talent of
- 6:48Speaker 2: Jackson Dart. It's the resolve, the toughness, the energy, the attitude,
- 6:56Speaker 2: the I don't give a crap what the situation is,
- 7:00Speaker 2: and I don't give a crap who's in front of me,
- 7:03Speaker 2: attitude of both Jackson Dart and Cam Skataboo. It's that energy.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Because that energy, more than anything else, despite what happened
- 7:16Speaker 2: on Sunday afternoon, it's that energy that is changing this
- 7:21Speaker 2: football team in ways so for me. So for me,
- 7:27Speaker 2: that's the engine that starts all of it. And and
- 7:32Speaker 2: it's not going to be perfect because Jackson Darts a
- 7:34Speaker 2: rookie quarterback and he's gonna do stupid things like throw
- 7:38Speaker 2: interceptions with you know, with with two minutes left in
- 7:41Speaker 2: a game that you know, the God Giants fans are
- 7:46Speaker 2: still arguing about whether or not whether or not the
- 7:48Speaker 2: Giants should have thrown a pass there, and and and
- 7:51Speaker 2: you know what I say to that, I've said for years,
- 7:55Speaker 2: going all the way back to when Kevin gilbrid was
- 7:57Speaker 2: the offensive coordinator and people used to own and grown
- 8:00Speaker 2: and complain about Kevin Gilbride and all of this. You
- 8:03Speaker 2: know what a good play call is. A good play
- 8:06Speaker 2: call is one that works. A bad play call is
- 8:10Speaker 2: one that doesn't. Right, And what I will say about
- 8:13Speaker 2: that pass by Jackson Dart is THEO Johnson was wide open.
- 8:17Speaker 2: You know, Jackson Dart just didn't get the ball there, right.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So you know, a good play call is one that works,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and a bad play call is one that doesn't. And
- 8:27Speaker 2: you can argue about that as much as you want,
- 8:30Speaker 2: but that's what it comes down to.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, on the flip side of the coin, what
- 8:34Speaker 1: is the biggest weakness of this New York Giants team
- 8:36Speaker 1: as we're heading into Week eight here?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Well, again, at one point, you know, the Giants fans
- 8:42Speaker 2: always talk about the offensive line, but I don't think
- 8:45Speaker 2: that's the case anymore with Andrew Thomas. Andrew Thomas has
- 8:49Speaker 2: single handedly taken an offensive line that was without him
- 8:53Speaker 2: and without him last year in the first couple of
- 8:55Speaker 2: games of this year, an offensive line that was a
- 8:58Speaker 2: question mark and turned it into a strength. Andrew Thomas
- 9:03Speaker 2: coming off list frank surgery that had all of us
- 9:08Speaker 2: questioning what we were going to get, what we were
- 9:10Speaker 2: going to see Andrew Thomas is playing as well or
- 9:14Speaker 2: better than he ever has. Andrew Thomas was one on
- 9:17Speaker 2: one with Nick Benito of the Broncos this past week,
- 9:20Speaker 2: and it was a matchup that I was not necessarily
- 9:24Speaker 2: frothing at the mouth to watch, but I was excited
- 9:27Speaker 2: to watch. Okay, Nick Benito with eight sacks entering the game,
- 9:34Speaker 2: the best pressure rate in the league of any edge defender.
- 9:41Speaker 2: The Broncos got so frustrated because Nick Benito couldn't get
- 9:44Speaker 2: around Andrew Thomas that they just put him over on
- 9:48Speaker 2: the other side Andrew. You know, Nick Benito couldn't get
- 9:51Speaker 2: anywhere near Jackson Dart, so they just moved Benito to
- 9:54Speaker 2: the other side. So I think right now, the biggest
- 10:01Speaker 2: weakness of this football team, to get back to the
- 10:04Speaker 2: original question, you know, I don't, I don't. I don't
- 10:06Speaker 2: love to be long winded or anything. So you know,
- 10:10Speaker 2: the biggest the biggest weakness of this football team right
- 10:13Speaker 2: now is the defensive secondary, especially with Paulson Adebo and
- 10:20Speaker 2: Javon Holland right now questionable with a knee injury, and
- 10:23Speaker 2: even Brian Burns has a foot injury and we don't
- 10:26Speaker 2: know where that you know where that's gonna lead at
- 10:28Speaker 2: this point, But I would say it's the defensive secondary,
- 10:33Speaker 2: and overall it would have to be the fact that
- 10:38Speaker 2: as talented as this defense is, overall it has only
- 10:44Speaker 2: shown flashes of playing the way that it should the
- 10:47Speaker 2: way that it can. And I just don't know. They
- 10:50Speaker 2: can say what they want. But after Sunday and after
- 10:56Speaker 2: blowing a game in very similar fashion in Week two
- 11:00Speaker 2: against the Dallas Cowboys, when they again played a drop
- 11:05Speaker 2: eight rush three defense that allowed Dallas to kick a
- 11:10Speaker 2: game tying field goal at you know as at the
- 11:13Speaker 2: end of regulation, yep, the players can say what they want,
- 11:18Speaker 2: but I don't know if they can completely trust or
- 11:21Speaker 2: will completely buy into what they're getting from Shane Bowen.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I just don't know. And that's so for me, it's,
- 11:27Speaker 2: you know, on paper, it's the secondary, but mentally, it's
- 11:31Speaker 2: are these guys. Are these guys checked in and all
- 11:35Speaker 2: in with the defensive coordinator.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And we're definitely gonna get into the Giants secondary in
- 11:40Speaker 1: a in a bit, because the Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers
- 11:43Speaker 1: had quite a week this past week against the Minnesota Vikings,
- 11:46Speaker 1: and we're gonna get to them in a bit. First,
- 11:48Speaker 1: we're gonna take a very quick break, and when we
- 11:51Speaker 1: get back, we're gonna get into that subject matter and
- 11:54Speaker 1: a lot more with regard to this Week eight matchup,
- 11:57Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles against New York Giants. We're gonna take that break. Now,
- 12:00Speaker 1: stick with us. We'll be back in a bit. All right,
- 12:03Speaker 1: We are back with our good friend Ed Valentine from
- 12:06Speaker 1: Big Blue View dot com. I believe it's at Ed
- 12:09Speaker 1: Valentine over on Twitter slash x. If I'm not correct,
- 12:12Speaker 1: Am I correct?
- 12:13Speaker 2: There? Yeah? Okay, and it's and mostly you know what,
- 12:17Speaker 2: mostly though, I mostly just use that at Big Blue
- 12:20Speaker 2: View account. Okay, sounds good. At Big Blue View folks. Yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 2: that's that's that's the best place to find me there.
- 12:27Speaker 2: There is there is a personal account out there somewhere,
- 12:31Speaker 2: but you know, you're sort of sending that out into
- 12:32Speaker 2: the wilderness to never be found you there.
- 12:35Speaker 1: All right, sounds good. That's very fair, very fair. All right, Well,
- 12:39Speaker 1: let's keep diving into this pregame preview show here, because look,
- 12:44Speaker 1: the reality of this Week eight matchup. You know, we
- 12:47Speaker 1: have to be reflective of the fact that the Giants
- 12:49Speaker 1: beat the Eagles already this year and they beat them
- 12:52Speaker 1: good again just a couple of weeks ago. They scored
- 12:56Speaker 1: touchdowns on both their opening possessions and really controlled the trenches.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's what the New York Giants needed to do to
- 13:02Speaker 1: beat the Philadelphia Eagles two weeks ago, and they absolutely
- 13:05Speaker 1: did it. The Eagles defense only got three quarterback hits
- 13:09Speaker 1: on Jackson Dart during that game. And on the flip side,
- 13:12Speaker 1: the Eagles offensive line they struggled in the rushing game,
- 13:15Speaker 1: which has been an ongoing theme for this Eagles offense
- 13:19Speaker 1: game after game after game. The offensive line is just
- 13:22Speaker 1: not syncing up with each other. There are injuries, the
- 13:26Speaker 1: depth is just not there. We'll certainly get into it more,
- 13:29Speaker 1: but Ed, what did you see in that first game
- 13:32Speaker 1: that gives you some hope that the Giants can really
- 13:35Speaker 1: rebound from the loss against the Broncos.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Well, again, I think I talked a little bit about
- 13:42Speaker 2: the offensive line earlier, and I think that the the
- 13:46Speaker 2: fact that for years there have been so many questions
- 13:49Speaker 2: about the Giants offensive line and the defensive line as well,
- 13:53Speaker 2: and you know, just the Giants' ability to hold up
- 13:57Speaker 2: at the line of scrimmage, and first and foremost, I
- 14:02Speaker 2: think that's real. I think what they're doing on both
- 14:06Speaker 2: lines in holding up in the trenches is real. Okay,
- 14:09Speaker 2: they do. They still need more help there, you know.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Greg Van Roten is a thirty five year old more
- 14:16Speaker 2: or less placeholder at right guard, but he's not hurting them.
- 14:22Speaker 2: And they could use more talent on the defensive line.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But they have enough, right they haven't you know, they
- 14:28Speaker 2: could use another another real impact players, another rotation piece. Yeah. Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 2: but but but they're doing well on the lines. They're
- 14:39Speaker 2: holding up there, and you know, I look at it
- 14:45Speaker 2: and I think the other part of this is the
- 14:50Speaker 2: thing that gives me hope is, look, the Giants drop
- 14:53Speaker 2: thirty four points on the Eagles. Yeah, the Eagles are
- 14:56Speaker 2: defending Super Bowl champions, and maybe they're not firing on
- 15:02Speaker 2: all cylinders. Maybe they have a couple of weaknesses that
- 15:07Speaker 2: that didn't show up at times last year. But the
- 15:11Speaker 2: Giants backed that up by dropping five touchdowns on the Broncos,
- 15:15Speaker 2: which is the first or second ranked defense in the league.
- 15:19Speaker 2: So what gives me hope in that sense is even
- 15:25Speaker 2: without Molik Neighbors, this team is finding ways to move
- 15:29Speaker 2: the football and finding ways to score points, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: without without their best player right right, And a lot
- 15:39Speaker 2: of that comes from Jackson Dart's ability to move in
- 15:44Speaker 2: the pocket to make what some people call loose plays.
- 15:47Speaker 2: There was a pass he threw to one Dale Robinson
- 15:50Speaker 2: in the Denver game where I was watching that play
- 15:54Speaker 2: and I thought, Okay, if Daniel Jones was the quarterback,
- 15:58Speaker 2: Daniel Jones can move in the pocket, like Daniel Jones
- 16:01Speaker 2: can get out of the pocket if he chooses to run,
- 16:05Speaker 2: you know, and make some yardage with his legs. But
- 16:08Speaker 2: what Daniel Jones could never do is throw a dime
- 16:13Speaker 2: just a couple of inches over a defensive back, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 2: to a wide receiver for a twenty five or thirty
- 16:20Speaker 2: yard game. Yeah, and make that sort of improvisational play.
- 16:25Speaker 2: So what gives me hope is just these, like I
- 16:28Speaker 2: said to me, these back to back performances, you know,
- 16:32Speaker 2: by an offense, that that tell me that that there's
- 16:37Speaker 2: progress being made there.
- 16:40Speaker 1: They are growing. That's how I, as an objective viewer
- 16:43Speaker 1: from the outside, I view the New York Giants offense
- 16:46Speaker 1: as an offense that is growing for sure, ed. And
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know, as we're moving along, the Giants they had
- 16:53Speaker 1: one hundred and nineteen yards rushing last week in Denver,
- 16:56Speaker 1: again against one of the better defenses in this league.
- 17:01Speaker 1: But the Denver defense did a good job of bottling
- 17:03Speaker 1: up the Giants, you know, running backs in general, on
- 17:06Speaker 1: a number of rushing plays as well. We're talking about
- 17:09Speaker 1: Jackson Dark, how he is continuing to grow. However, he
- 17:14Speaker 1: did complete less than fifty percent of the passes that
- 17:16Speaker 1: he threw. So I'm wondering going into the matchup in Philly,
- 17:20Speaker 1: how will the Giants really try to balance out the
- 17:23Speaker 1: rushing attack and the passing attack. What are your thoughts here?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Well, all of the praise we're heaping on Jackson Dark
- 17:32Speaker 2: is deserved. He you know, he has been fantastic. Yeah, Okay,
- 17:37Speaker 2: He's been everything that the Giants could have wanted. And
- 17:44Speaker 2: when you look, you know, when the rest of the
- 17:46Speaker 2: NFC East has to look at the Giants and say,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you know, they're they're two and five, but they have
- 17:53Speaker 2: a quarterback now that they can build around, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 2: they're a team that I don't know what's going to
- 17:57Speaker 2: happen the rest of this of this year, but a
- 18:00Speaker 2: team that's coming. But Jackson Dart's still a guy that
- 18:05Speaker 2: started four NFL games. Okay, you cannot if you're the
- 18:09Speaker 2: New York Giants, go out there and say, ah, you know,
- 18:13Speaker 2: we don't need the running game this week. We're just
- 18:17Speaker 2: we're just gonna let Dark throw the ball forty five times,
- 18:21Speaker 2: you know, So they have to have some sort of balance.
- 18:27Speaker 2: They I hate beyond one Dale Robinson, who he's five
- 18:34Speaker 2: 't eight, He's one hundred and eighty five pounds. He's
- 18:36Speaker 2: got the shortest arms of any wide receiver in the league. Okay,
- 18:40Speaker 2: and I'm blown away by what he's doing this year.
- 18:43Speaker 2: They've always told us he could be an explosive playmaker.
- 18:46Speaker 2: They've always told us he could get yards after Africa catch.
- 18:51Speaker 2: The Giants have always told us they could he could
- 18:53Speaker 2: get down the field and catch the ball. But this
- 18:56Speaker 2: is his fourth year in the league and it's the
- 18:58Speaker 2: first time we've seen it. So But beyond wan Dale Robinson,
- 19:03Speaker 2: they don't have a trustworthy wide receiver unless Darius Slayton
- 19:08Speaker 2: comes back from his injury. And I don't know whether
- 19:10Speaker 2: he's going to be back or not. You know, they're
- 19:13Speaker 2: they're scheming to get the ball to tight ends. They're
- 19:16Speaker 2: using a lot of play action, They're using a lot
- 19:18Speaker 2: of misdirection, They're they're getting the ball to the running
- 19:22Speaker 2: backs out of the backfield. They're doing a lot of
- 19:25Speaker 2: creative things to create passing attack, to create passing opportunities.
- 19:31Speaker 2: They can't do what the Eagles can do, which is
- 19:35Speaker 2: just say, hey DeVante, you know, just just go win,
- 19:39Speaker 2: or hey Jay Brown, just go win, right, you know.
- 19:41Speaker 2: And and the Giants can't do that even with Wandale.
- 19:45Speaker 2: They can't do that because of his physical limitations. But
- 19:50Speaker 2: but they have to have run game. And Cam Skataboo
- 19:55Speaker 2: is fantastic, but he's not going to give you explosive
- 20:00Speaker 2: thirty five or forty yards at a crack run game.
- 20:02Speaker 2: He's gonna give you churn out the first downs, you know,
- 20:07Speaker 2: get people juiced up by by turning five yards into nine,
- 20:12Speaker 2: you know, by by putting his head down and running
- 20:15Speaker 2: somebody over. Tyrone Tracy might give you that. You know,
- 20:19Speaker 2: he had the thirty one yard touchdown run on Sunday.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But as I said to one of the guys on
- 20:25Speaker 2: on my on my staff, I watched Andrew Thomas basically
- 20:29Speaker 2: cave in the entire left side of the Denver defense,
- 20:33Speaker 2: and I thought I could have scored that touchdown right,
- 20:36Speaker 2: And I'm and I'm sixty five years old. Yes, I
- 20:39Speaker 2: thought I I thought I could have scored that touchdown.
- 20:42Speaker 2: But but they they need to have some sort of balance.
- 20:46Speaker 2: They need to have that run game because it's like
- 20:49Speaker 2: I said, it's a rookie quarterback. You just don't want
- 20:51Speaker 2: to put him in that situation. Yep.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right again, folks, we're talking to Ed Valentine
- 20:56Speaker 1: from Big Blue view dot com. Gonna take a quick
- 20:59Speaker 1: break when we get back, got more and we'll be
- 21:02Speaker 1: concluding our discussion.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Stick with us, all right.
- 21:06Speaker 1: We're back with our good friend Ed Valentine from Big
- 21:08Speaker 1: blue view dot com. Great esp Nation site them, him
- 21:11Speaker 1: and the staff over there. Fantastic content always if you
- 21:14Speaker 1: want to head them over and check out some New
- 21:16Speaker 1: York Giants content. So so we're moving along and we
- 21:20Speaker 1: conclude our discussion here after this last break. The Eagles
- 21:25Speaker 1: receivers were finally able to shine this past week. All
- 21:28Speaker 1: of us in Eagles Nation, we have been waiting for this.
- 21:31Speaker 1: When you have a talent like Davante Smith and AJ Brown,
- 21:34Speaker 1: you're saying, my goodness, what has been happening? They were
- 21:36Speaker 1: finally able to shine them and them and Jalen Hurts
- 21:39Speaker 1: on the same page. Aj Brown one hundred and twenty
- 21:42Speaker 1: one yards two touchdowns, Davonte Smith one hundred and eighty
- 21:45Speaker 1: three yards in a touchdown. I'm wondering, ed, how do
- 21:48Speaker 1: you see the Giants defense and their secondaries we were
- 21:51Speaker 1: talking about earlier really stacking up against the Eagles receiving
- 21:54Speaker 1: corps this week since they really seem to be getting
- 21:57Speaker 1: some things into sync together. What are your thoughts.
- 22:01Speaker 2: My thoughts are the Giants better blitz a lot and
- 22:03Speaker 2: they better get home. Okay, Look, look if you're if
- 22:08Speaker 2: you're the Eagles, you look around that secondary. Paulson Adebo's hurt.
- 22:13Speaker 2: He's their best corner and he's been He's been okay
- 22:18Speaker 2: so far this year. But one of the big reasons
- 22:21Speaker 2: they brought Paulson Adebo over from New Orleans in free
- 22:24Speaker 2: agency is because he was becoming a turnover machine. He
- 22:29Speaker 2: had I think seven interceptions in twenty two games. Yeah,
- 22:33Speaker 2: and he's a guy that always had his hands on
- 22:35Speaker 2: the ball the last couple of years in New Orleans,
- 22:38Speaker 2: and that guy hasn't shown up. Okay, he's been okay
- 22:42Speaker 2: in coverage, but that guy making a difference by making
- 22:47Speaker 2: plays on the ball hasn't shown up. And I don't
- 22:50Speaker 2: know at this point if he's going to play this week. Right,
- 22:53Speaker 2: So what I would say, Look, if you're Philadelphia and
- 22:57Speaker 2: you're going to pass the ball, you find number twenty eight,
- 23:01Speaker 2: who's Cordell flot And I never in a million years
- 23:04Speaker 2: thought I thought I would be about to say this.
- 23:06Speaker 2: You find number twenty eight, and you throw the ball
- 23:10Speaker 2: anywhere else, anywhere else? Right, all right? Drew Phillips, who
- 23:15Speaker 2: I love, the kid had a really good rookie year.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Drew Phillips, the slot corner has been targeted as much
- 23:23Speaker 2: or more than any cornerback in the league. And there's
- 23:25Speaker 2: a reason, all right, there's a reason because when you
- 23:30Speaker 2: throw the ball to the guy he's covering, the guy
- 23:33Speaker 2: he's covering catches it, or if he doesn't catch it,
- 23:36Speaker 2: the little yellow hanky hits the ground. Gotcha? Because I
- 23:39Speaker 2: think I think Drew Phillips also leads the leads defensive
- 23:43Speaker 2: backs in penalties. Okay, all right, and Deontay Banks first
- 23:49Speaker 2: round pick, you know out of Maryland, the good you know,
- 23:54Speaker 2: all of that, all the talent in the world, all
- 23:56Speaker 2: the physical ability in the world. Except what I will
- 23:59Speaker 2: tell you is, even when receivers look covered by Deontay Banks.
- 24:07Speaker 2: They're open for for this simple reason. There's a thing
- 24:12Speaker 2: called a football that's coming in the air. Deontay Banks
- 24:17Speaker 2: has no idea how to find it. Okay, he has
- 24:20Speaker 2: no idea how to find it or no idea how
- 24:23Speaker 2: to react to it except to hit the guy who
- 24:27Speaker 2: just caught it. There you go, even if even if
- 24:30Speaker 2: it happened to go right over his head, which does
- 24:34Speaker 2: quite often. So if Deontay Banks and the Broncos as
- 24:39Speaker 2: soon as Paulson and Debo got hurt the other day,
- 24:44Speaker 2: the Broncos saw number two on the field, which is
- 24:46Speaker 2: the number that Banks wears now, and the ball just
- 24:51Speaker 2: started going in that direction again and again and again
- 24:54Speaker 2: and again. So so what I'm going to tell you
- 24:57Speaker 2: is just just find twenty eight throataball somewhere else.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Okay.
- 25:01Speaker 2: That's good. Sounds good. Sounds like A J.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Brown and Devontae Smith could have another good week here perhaps,
- 25:07Speaker 1: so uh ed, before I let you go, we love
- 25:11Speaker 1: ending our show here on our Opposition Territory podcast with
- 25:15Speaker 1: these two questions. And it's the one thing that each
- 25:18Speaker 1: team is going to need to hit on for a win.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I'd love to get your thoughts on it. Let's start
- 25:23Speaker 1: with the Giants. What is the one thing that New
- 25:25Speaker 1: York Giants are going to need to hit on for
- 25:27Speaker 1: a win this week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Honestly, it's got to be their pass rush. They have
- 25:35Speaker 2: got to because they're we just talked about secondary, okay,
- 25:41Speaker 2: and I don't know what's going on with the Eagles
- 25:43Speaker 2: run game, and and every Giants fan fears Saquon Barkley
- 25:48Speaker 2: waking up Sunday and remembering that he's Saquon Barkley. Yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but but the Giants pass rush has got to make
- 25:58Speaker 2: a difference because that's second that secondary gets exposed over
- 26:04Speaker 2: and over and over, and it's not going to get
- 26:07Speaker 2: better if Pulson and Debo can't play. So I would say,
- 26:10Speaker 2: I would say the Giants. They're certainly not going to
- 26:15Speaker 2: surprise the Eagles. They're not going to catch the Eagles thinking,
- 26:20Speaker 2: and I don't know if they did two weeks ago.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Oh it's the Giants. We're gonna win the game. You know,
- 26:25Speaker 2: they'll screw it up somehow, because they always screw it
- 26:28Speaker 2: up somehow. But but you know, the Giants the Eagles.
- 26:36Speaker 2: What I want to say is the Giants have the
- 26:38Speaker 2: Eagles attention. Yes, okay, absolutely, so they're going to have
- 26:42Speaker 2: that pass rush is going to have to is going
- 26:45Speaker 2: to have to be a big difference maker. All right,
- 26:47Speaker 2: flip the coin.
- 26:48Speaker 1: What's the one thing the Eagles are going to need
- 26:50Speaker 1: to hit on for a win against the New York
- 26:51Speaker 1: Giants this week?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Well, I think it. I think it goes to to
- 26:56Speaker 2: the the same thing we just talked about. If if
- 27:00Speaker 2: you can protect Jalen Hurts, Yeah, you can protect Jalen Hurts.
- 27:04Speaker 1: It's gonna be a talk.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But if you can give Jalen Hurts a chance to
- 27:11Speaker 2: get the ball out to aj Brown to Devonte Smith,
- 27:15Speaker 2: the tight ends to sake one. And you know, in
- 27:18Speaker 2: in space, the Giants have yet to really prove that
- 27:25Speaker 2: they can cover anybody except for number twenty eight. Just
- 27:29Speaker 2: don't go there. Just don't go there. And you're good.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Sounds good, folks, He has at Valentine from Big Blue
