- 0:47Hey, y'all, welcome to today's show. Today we're going to get into
- 1:06well, a very important topic has to do with paper infallibility and what's going
- 1:11on in the news right now. But and yeah, it's probably gonna be
- 1:17a controversial show. I'll say some things that some people may not like to
- 1:23say the least. I'm not a fan of Pope Francis. I think he's
- 1:29probably a well meaning man. I think he thinks he's doing the right thing.
- 1:34I think he's very confused on many issues, and on this issue of
- 1:40homosexuality, he is really screwing up bad, badly whatever. I'm not a
- 1:47set of accentists. I do believe he is the actual Pope, but I
- 1:52think he's a really bad pope, not a good pope. We'll get into
- 2:00that. So before we do, let's turn to the old book radio replies,
- 2:06and let's see what the anti Catholics are asking the priests today. This
- 2:12one says, what is meant by natural religion? And why is it not
- 2:17sufficient? They answer, natural religion is simply the religion a man would be
- 2:23obliged to practice, even if he never received a revelation from God. Man
- 2:29could know by reason alone that there is a God, and that he must
- 2:31be acknowledged by a worship dictated by reason as to its form, and by
- 2:37obedience to the natural law, as manifested by conscience. But the origin,
- 2:43but this natural religion is not sufficient in the present condition of the human race.
- 2:47God has given to mankind a supernatural destiny higher than any mere natural destiny.
- 2:54And this requires the revelation of a knowledge higher than that which would be
- 2:59attained by merely natural reason. You may remember that when Saint Paul was I
- 3:07guess it was when he was talking to the Greeks, he picked out one
- 3:14of their what would you call him? You know, they had all these
- 3:17like temples to different deities and such, and he picked out one that said
- 3:22to an unknown God. And he walked in and said, I'm here to
- 3:24represent that unknown God. And he began speaking to them in a way they
- 3:30should have understood. But well, some were converted. Devire, definitely.
- 3:36He made some converts in Greek Greeks, quite a few, but he failed
- 3:39to persuade the intelligencia, you know, or the whole nation. They found
- 3:46Christianity be a novel concept, and that was about it. Of course,
- 3:52it could have been when he was in Rome. That happened, I can't
- 3:53remember, and I don't have time to look it up right now. But
- 3:57the point is at the Church to Catechism says that all well that man may
- 4:05know God through nature, so that there is no real excuse for atheism.
- 4:13Essentially, all peoples on earth throughout history have had a religion of some sort.
- 4:19You cannot find in pre modern times any tribe or nation on Earth that
- 4:26does not have some form of religion, religious ideology, and religious worship.
- 4:33The It really defies reason and logic to disbelieve in God. And we've talked
- 4:44about that so much, about the reflective principles and all that, But it
- 4:51would also assume that somehow all people who believe in God are or wrong or
- 5:00delusional. Therefore, you know, the atheists must say that he's smarter than
- 5:04all people who believe in God. He's figured out something they just don't know.
- 5:08They're delusional. Right. Well, in order to assume that, you
- 5:12have to believe that you're smarter than everybody that ever came before you in the
- 5:16history of the world. And nobody's that smart. Nobody's that's smart at all.
- 5:26Look, even you know, Albert Einstein who was I think atheists or
- 5:30agnostic for much of his life. Through his study of physics, came to
- 5:34believe in a deity, in a God. I don't know if what he
- 5:41would denomination if he ever settled on one, but he came to believe in
- 5:44God. So you have to assume you're smarter than Albert Einstein. Okay,
- 5:48well, maybe you know there are some super geniuses who are I doubt it.
- 5:56Just even if you were, you're not. There's no one man on
- 5:59earth who's martyr than the sum cumulative total of all wisdom and the entire history
- 6:03of mankind. It's an ultimately arrogant statement. I mean, even the devil
- 6:11believes in God. He just worships himself as his own God. It's really
- 6:18quite an untenable position. But that law of natural religion is what led all
- 6:26people's, you know, from the ancient Chinese to Egyptians, to Native Americans
- 6:30to Scandinavians to you name it, throughout millions of years, to each have
- 6:36and practice religion because they could see the hand of God in nature, and
- 6:42their natural reason taught them belief in God. And we may say that the
- 6:47knowledge and need of God is actually imprinted on the human heart. One has
- 6:51to deny it the natural. The natural state of man is to believe in
- 6:58God. It is an unnatural state. It takes a lot of misguided reason,
- 7:04a lot of delusion. It takes a great leap of faith, actually
- 7:09to believe that there isn't a God, especially given the evidence of all of
- 7:14humanity always believing there is at least some sort of God. But we believe,
- 7:17as Christians in a revealed religion. We believe in one true God who
- 7:20has revealed himself to us, very different than other religions. And they go
- 7:27on. The person says, granted immortality and the need of natural religion,
- 7:32could we prove that more would have to be revealed? They said, Even
- 7:39where where natural religion is concerned, the lack of ability and lack of time
- 7:44for study amongst the masses of men, and the differences of opinions and absurd
- 7:47errors even of philosophers, where the natural principle of religion and of morality are
- 7:53in question, would argue the need for some help by revelation. But we
- 7:58could not prove that truth beyond the natural order would have to be revealed,
- 8:01because such revelation supposes a supernatural identity, a supernatural destiny for man, a
- 8:09destiny dependent entirely upon the good pleasure of God. We simply have to accept
- 8:13the fact that God has revealed supernatural truths beyond the requirements of merely natural religion.
- 8:20Once we have a what they said, an historical fact. Okay,
- 8:24grammatically, you don't say an historical it's a historical fact because H is considant
- 8:33not a vowel. Really bugs me when people do that. It's sort of
- 8:35an English name because they try not to pronounce the h to sound, you
- 8:39know, more posh. It's a historical it is a horse. It is
- 8:46not an horse. That would be an horse, which is a norseman,
- 8:50a Viking. That's a reason we don't. There's the reason we have rules
- 8:54of grammar, y'all. I'm sure you want to be ectured by hillbilly or
- 9:01grammar. Yes, I'm sure you do. Once we have a historical fact,
- 9:05there is no longer room for speculation as to what should or should not
- 9:11be. God has revealed very definite doctrines and moral obligations. It is for
- 9:16us to accept and fulfill them. If we have any idea of pleasing God
- 9:20and saving our souls. Well, speaking of revelation, they say, the
- 9:24person who asked, do you maintain that your mysterious Bible contains the revelation of
- 9:30God? The answer, I maintain that it contains part of God's full revelation.
- 9:35All that is contained in the Bible has been revealed by God, although
- 9:39further information is given to us in other ways. The Bible contains very mysterious
- 9:45doctrines, I admit, and we'll get into some of those mysterious doctrines tomorrow.
- 9:50But it's a very important point, you know, because Protestantism is based
- 9:54on two precepts faith alone in the Bible, one soul of feed a soul
- 9:58of scriptura. They maintain that the only authority is the Bible. The Catholic
- 10:03Church's a very different position. We maintain that as the Bible says, God's
- 10:09taught many things to the apostles that are not written down in the Bible,
- 10:13the Bible actually says that. It actually says, I think it's in the
- 10:16book Gospel John. If all were written down, fill all the books in
- 10:22the world. What's written down here is just enough so you may believe.
- 10:26So we have sacred tradition, the sacred tradition. What Jesus taught to the
- 10:31apostles that isn't written in the Bible has been passed down for about two thousand
- 10:35years now through apostolic succession. That is, where the apostles ordained bishops and
- 10:43priests. They taught to them what was taught to them by Jesus. Those
- 10:46bishops and priests then taught those same doctrines to the next generation, and to
- 10:50the next generation, and to the next generation. And we maintain that sacred
- 10:54authority is equally authoritative and valid as the Bible. And in fact, it
- 11:01is that sacred tradition, the authority of which which enabled the Church to compile
- 11:07the Bible. There's no Bible without the Catholic Church. The Gospels were written
- 11:11by the apostles, the first Catholics. Translations of the Bible done by like
- 11:16Saint Jerome. The understanding of the Bible is also part of sacred tradition.
- 11:24There are many people who understand I misunderstand many things in the Bible, and
- 11:26there are many heresies that have arisen out of those misunderstandings. You know,
- 11:31the Holy Trinity, when God in three persons is not defined in the Bible.
- 11:35It's barely mentioned. Jesus just said baptism and and the Father and Son
- 11:39of the Holy Spirit. He said, the Father and I are one.
- 11:43He said, when I leave the paraclete, the Holy Spirit will come,
- 11:48and it will guide you in all understanding. He said that to his apostles.
- 11:52He did not guarantee that to anyone who just picks up a Bible and
- 11:56starts reading it. By the way, so doctrines had to be defined,
- 12:01and that is also part of sacred tradition. And then it sort we get
- 12:05to the point topic of today's show, and it has to do with papal
- 12:11infallibility. This is probably the doctrine that upsets Protestants, but it's very biblical.
- 12:20Jesus said, specifically to his apostles, those who hear you hear me.
- 12:26Those who reject you reject him who sent me. He said to his
- 12:31apostles, I grant you all authority under heaven. He said several things like
- 12:39that. One of the most important was the gates of Hell would not prevail
- 12:46against his church. We believe, and all Christians believed for about fifteen hundred
- 12:52years until Martin Luther came along and led millions of people stray through falsehood and
- 12:58heresy and outright lies that he later admitted were inspired by the devil. Those
- 13:05are his own words. He railed against the Eucharists, as he put it,
- 13:09and later admitted that was inspired by the devil. Okay, most Lutherans
- 13:15don't read a lot of Luther. If they did, they'd have to leave
- 13:18the Lutheran Church. Sorry, that's just the truth. If you are in
- 13:24any way knowledgeable about all Luther and Calvin and Knox and all that, you'll
- 13:31pretty soon realize that their writings do not agree with the Bible or with each
- 13:37other a lot. And there's only one truth. And that one truth has
- 13:41been unchanging in the Catholic Church since the day it was founded by Jesus Christ
- 13:45himself, when he said, Peter, you're the rock, and upon this
- 13:48rock I found my church. The dates of hell will not prevailtive against it.
- 13:52It will be a shining city set upon a hill, visible to all
- 13:56ages. No other church, in fact, no human instant tuition, has
- 14:01been intact visible to all ages for two thousand years, and none will be
- 14:07still standing except the Catholic Church at the end of time. Because Jesus said
- 14:13that and Jesus cannot lie. So the doctrine of papal infallibility says that the
- 14:18pope has, through the guidance and protection and prevention from error by the Holy
- 14:26Spirit, a unique authority, a chroism, if you will, an authority
- 14:31to say, to rule on matters of morals and doctrine, not on everything.
- 14:37Okay. If the Pope says red wine is better than white wine,
- 14:41that's just his opinion. Yeah, I think I would agree with that,
- 14:46a particular opinion, but that's just his opinion. If the Pope says chocolate
- 14:50ice cream is better than vanilla ice cream, yeah, just just his opinion.
- 14:56This office is what we call from the seat of Peter, okay,
- 15:03the seat of Saint Peter, the throne of Saint Peter, if you will.
- 15:07The Pope is the officer who occupies that seat. So I mentioned earlier
- 15:13set of acadists. They that literally means in Latin the seat is empty.
- 15:18They don't believe that our current pope is valid. It comes down to,
- 15:24well, it goes back to the time around Vattic into Archbishop Lefevre and some
- 15:33controversies over what very traditional and I would really count myself among the traditional wing
- 15:41of Catholics. I certainly prefer the Latin Mass. I'm very orthodox in my
- 15:46opinion. I am not convinced that the pope is an invalid pope. Frankly,
- 15:54Pope John paul Is second was fantastic, and they would have maintained what
- 15:58they did, maintain that he was not a valid pope. Well he's now
- 16:02Saint Pope, Pope Saint John Paul a second. It's it's a controversy among
- 16:11Catholics, and they'll argue about it, and it's a lot of animosity.
- 16:15The set of Acondists Vacantists does not consider themselves in communion with nona set of
- 16:22Vacandists, and the more liberal wing of the church does not consider itself in
- 16:27communion with a set of Vacandists, and a lot of traditional Catholics like me,
- 16:36are in the middle. We don't like most of what Medican two brought
- 16:40about. We don't like what's called norvus Ordo or the new Mass that came
- 16:45about when they got rid of traditional Catholic Mass. And we adhere to orthodox
- 16:52Catholic teaching where we draw the line as we say, well, you know,
- 17:00I'm going to go to any Mass that's open to me, because the
- 17:02Catholic Church is still the Church as guaranteed by Jesus Christ. While I would
- 17:06prefer to go to traditional Latin Mass with everything in me, if there's not
- 17:11one nearby, I will go to a nervous Ordo Mass because it's still the
- 17:15Catholic Church. Jesus guaranteed that the Catholic Church would stand for all ages.
- 17:21He didn't make any guarantees about specific popes, and there have been some very
- 17:25bad popes, just two or three, but they were pretty bad guys.
- 17:30Amazingly, if you look at the history of the Catholic Church, they never
- 17:34exercised their authority of infallibility those bad popes. You see, infallibility only applies
- 17:44when the pope gives an official teaching on matters of morals and doctrines, not
- 17:52his opinion, and usually like ninety nine point nine percent of the time,
- 17:57this is in consultation and after a long consultation, usually and in agreement with
- 18:04the cardinals and bishops whatever. There's a name for that, the College of
- 18:11Bishops or college. You know. I'm a convert. I get confused on
- 18:15the jargon. Sometimes generally speaking, a pope does not just walk out and
- 18:21say, I, Pope so and so declare this to be infallible teaching on
- 18:27a matter of morals and doctrines without the agreement of at least the vast majority
- 18:34of the bishops and after a long consultation, a lot of talking. But
- 18:41the Pope would technically have that authority on the ground set. What he said
- 18:48was not in opposition to the traditionally held beliefs and doctrines of the Catholic Church.
- 18:56See, the Pope can't just come out and say old. For instance,
- 19:02the Bible says homosexuality is wrong. Jesus said homosexuality is wrong. The
- 19:07Catechism of the Catholic Church says homosexuality is a sin, wrong or sin.
- 19:11I'm just saying he's interchangeably. I'm not trying to differentiate canon law, etc.
- 19:15At center, etc. And this has been our belief that we've held
- 19:18for two thousand years. But I Pope Francis now say it's just perfectly fine
- 19:22to be gay. He I'm sure as a man he could do that,
- 19:27but no Catholic would be compelled to accept it, in fact, because that
- 19:34statement is in direct opposition of the coherent, cohesive teachings of the Catholic Church
- 19:41for the past two thousand years. We would have the duty to ignore it,
- 19:48not just ignore it, reject it, and actually fight against That's a
- 19:55big mistake that like most all Protestants and far too Catholics make, they don't
- 20:02understand that the pope's infallible ability is limited. But if you use logic for
- 20:08a few minutes, you realize that the pope can't just come out and say
- 20:12something the opposite of what Jesus said and everyone have to agree to it.
- 20:18As I said, we've had some bad popes. None of them have actually
- 20:22done that. In fact, one or two of them may have been planning
- 20:26to do something what would be call heretical, or at least you know,
- 20:34oh, there's a word for it's the opposite of orthodox heterodox Yes, or
- 20:38create a scandal through confusion, which is what I would if I was going
- 20:44to accuse Francis of anything, I would say that he creates scandal through the
- 20:52confusion that he calls us through his words, because he's not made any official
- 20:56statements. But anyway, those few bad popes that may have been about to
- 21:04do something like that died suddenly, and when we talk about the Holy Spirit
- 21:11ensuring the infallible teaching of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and doctrine.
- 21:22One of the reasons we can point out is say, look, they drop
- 21:25dead, you know, so if you know Pope, Pope Francis has apparently
- 21:34this is what's been reported, and a lot of times what's reported isn't true.
- 21:38So I'm withholding judgment. I'm I got to jump to conclusions here.
- 21:41There's a lot of heated rhetoric online, and that's one of the reasons I
- 21:45put out a statement to day on Twitter, and I put it out on
- 21:48substack, and I'm saying it now, his power of infallibility is connected to
- 21:56his office, Okay, and it's not the man. It's the office of
- 22:00the pope, and it's limited to matters of faith and morals, of doctrine
- 22:06and morals. I should say the doctrine of the Trinity would be an example.
- 22:10If the Pope comes out and said, you know that whole three gods,
- 22:14one God and three persons. Sorry I said it backwards. Well let's
- 22:17say he actually did say that. He said, we got it wrong,
- 22:19there are actually three gods. Well, you know, he's not infallible.
- 22:23He'd be absolutely wrong, and Catholics and all Christians would have the duty to
- 22:29both to oppose what he said. He would have violated his office. But
- 22:37that's never happened, and God willing, it will never happen. I don't
- 22:42believe it will ever happen. So Pope Francis apparently came out and said sometime
- 22:48in the last day that he was open to blessing homosexual unions. Not valid
- 22:56marriage between homosexual peoples, you know, not recognizing gay marriage, okay,
- 23:06but some form of blessing that would allow them to feel more included, presumably
- 23:12with the goal that they would become, you know, come to church and
- 23:18be instructed on matters of morals and see there see the sinful the nature,
- 23:22the sinful nature of their actions, and thereby dissolve that union. He didn't
- 23:27say all that. I'm hoping that was what was in his mind. Anyway
- 23:32you look at it. That is so in confusion, whether he meant it
- 23:37or not. The liberal media will certainly say the Pope now approves of gay
- 23:41marriage, and it's going to cause it's already it's causing tremendous scandal. It
- 23:47will cause faithful Catholics to lose faith and leave the church. It will cause
- 23:52more anti Christian, anti Catholic people to try to enter the church, and
- 23:57people who are sitting on the f if they think the Pope says it's okay
- 24:00to be gay, you know, they could practice homosexual behavior and they could
- 24:07end up in heale because of what the pope said. Dad's the opposite of
- 24:11what a pope is supposed to be doing. So such things have happened before
- 24:17where he's been misreported, and the Vatican comes out and says, hold on,
- 24:21wait a minute, he didn't actually say this. Okay, let's hope
- 24:25and pray to God that's going to happen here. If he did say it,
- 24:32Let's hope he had good intentions. I'm willing to give him the benefit
- 24:34of the doubt on his intentions. I know many won't be I't I understand
- 24:41fully well why many traditional Catholics, the set of ac and dis especially reject
- 24:48him as pope. I do not. I'm only I'd be really tempted to
- 24:55do so as well. What I don't reject is the authority of the Catholic
- 25:00Church. I am very willing to say, yeah, he's a bad pope.
- 25:07Hopefully he may be a good person at heart, but he's a bad
- 25:11pope because he's not carrying out the duties of his office in a way that
- 25:15is educating and strengthening and supporting the church. Doesn't mean he's an invalid pope
- 25:22in my eyes. No, that's where we could disagree. I will say
- 25:26he's a bad pope, and I would probably be very supportive of the percent
- 25:33of the arguments of someone who says he is an invalid pope. But I
- 25:37believe in what Jesus said about his church, not about the man or the
- 25:41men. Remember you always have to remember Jesus chose twelve disciples, and one
- 25:45of them was Judas. There's going to be a bad one in every crowd.
- 25:52And I mean if we were to say that because Judas was a bad
- 25:56apostle, that invalidates the twelve apostles, that would mean Jesus isn't God.
- 26:03I'm not going that far, and I'm not going to go that far because
- 26:06I have faith in God and his church. But if Francis does try to
- 26:15make some official doctrine approving of homosexuality, which I pray to God he won't,
- 26:22it is our duty to reject it, because he will have invalidated that
- 26:30office of not that all, No, he will have invalidated his authority of
- 26:34infallibility because it's only in regard to what is in agreement with Catholic doctrine,
- 26:42the words of God, that is infallible. So we will have the duty
- 26:49to actively resist such as that doesn't mean leave the church, doesn't mean lose
- 26:56faith in the church. What it means is we would have a pope who
- 27:03had violated his duty and his words in that case would not should not be
- 27:11considered infallible. Now, I am not the greatest scholar. I am not
- 27:15you know, canon lawyer or anything like that. I have, you know,
- 27:22done a lot of reading and study on paper and fallibility, and this
- 27:25is what I've been taught. This is what I'm saying is an agreement with
- 27:30a lot of Catholic writing that the pope's authority is only on matters of faith
- 27:34and doctrine in unity with the College of whatever, and has to be in
- 27:42agreement with orthodox Catholic teaching. And you know, the words of God and
- 27:49the sacred tradition. It has to be in your cord with sacred tradition or
- 27:55it's not to it's not to be followed, ignored, or absolutely rejected.
- 28:02I'll also have to point out the obvious. I pray for, you know,
- 28:07Pope Francis's health. Absolutely, he is a very old man. Remember
- 28:12what I said about bad popes, They didn't get the chance to to propagate
- 28:21false teaching. If if I were him, I'd be a little careful about
- 28:27this one if he wants to live a long life, because precedents would say
- 28:32that he's in a little bit of a dangerous position here. Again, that's
- 28:37just my opinion. And I said, like I said, I wish him
- 28:41health in a long life, and I really wish he would be more clear
- 28:48and stop sewing so much confusion. And if he's got a wrong notion idea,
- 28:52I pray to God the Holy Spirit will set him right. We all
- 28:56need to pray for Pope Francis right now, and we need to pray for
- 29:00the cardinals and the bishops. We need to pray that one he will not
- 29:06teach anything in error, pronounce anything that is opposed to sacred tradition and the
- 29:11teachings of the Catholic Church orthodoxy. And two, if he does well,
- 29:18he'll see the error of his ways and repent and change it, obviously,
- 29:21but that the majority of Catholic bishops and priests will be filled with the spirit
- 29:26and stand strong to oppose him absolutely. That will be their duty as the
- 29:33shepherds of the church. I mean, he's the head, but they're all
- 29:37officers as well. And you know, hopefully our next pope will be a
- 29:42lot better, a lot better. So anyway, y'all just remember we know
- 29:48how the story ends. Jesus said those who endure to the end will be
- 29:52saved. And in the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope and
- 29:57don't worry. And as Hank Williams should say, the good Lord William willan
- 30:02and the creek don't rise. I'll talk with you all tomorrow. Have a good one
