- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with on our radio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome back to the almost Famous podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 3: It's been here and I want to wish you a very,
- 0:11Speaker 3: very happy Fourth of July. This week two hundred and
- 0:15Speaker 3: fifty years goodness gracious, two hundred and fifty more coming
- 0:20Speaker 3: our way. I would imagine, Heather, this is a big
- 0:24Speaker 3: celebration the Midwest.
- 0:25Speaker 2: It is.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Tell me about it. I know this is one of
- 0:27Speaker 4: your favorite times of year, right, That's so good.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Everybody comes back home, We get on the lakes. I
- 0:33Speaker 3: take the week off. It's the only week of the
- 0:35Speaker 3: year that I take off from everything. Like everything I
- 0:39Speaker 3: do starting January, I will never book anything for the
- 0:45Speaker 3: Fourth of July.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It is free for me. And we get on the lake.
- 0:49Speaker 2: We hang out.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It is a good reset for me from jumping from
- 0:53Speaker 3: thing to thing. And then we have the parades in Indiana.
- 0:57Speaker 3: We have the fair in Indiana, tons of fireworks in Indiana.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We do it big.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Is there a specific kind of food Indiana people eat
- 1:09Speaker 4: on Fourth of July?
- 1:10Speaker 2: You anything fried?
- 1:12Speaker 5: Okay?
- 1:13Speaker 3: So our Indiana is known for something that really the
- 1:15Speaker 3: country doesn't know much about. And I didn't know this
- 1:18Speaker 3: until I moved away. So obviously we do our like
- 1:21Speaker 3: we're like normal people. So we do our potato salads
- 1:24Speaker 3: and our mac and cheeses, and our hot dogs and
- 1:26Speaker 3: our burgers.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And you know, do it up like that.
- 1:30Speaker 3: But one of the things that is a secret gift
- 1:33Speaker 3: to Indiana and I believe Iowa is a pork breaded
- 1:38Speaker 3: pork tinderlin. So it's a pork tinder loin smashed out,
- 1:41Speaker 3: breaded and then put on a sandwich. It's actually a
- 1:44Speaker 3: Japanese dish, but we've turned it into just a sandwich
- 1:47Speaker 3: as we like to do, and it is so good.
- 1:50Speaker 4: What's it called when you order it?
- 1:52Speaker 2: A breaded pork tinderlin? Oh you're gonna.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Say that like some cutesy name, like it's a piggly
- 1:58Speaker 4: wiggly or something.
- 2:00Speaker 3: No, no, no, Anybody listening who has driven through the
- 2:02Speaker 3: Midwest and has ordered one will go, yeah, that's a
- 2:05Speaker 3: good that's good. Uh, And they'll know exactly what I'm
- 2:08Speaker 3: talking about.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I've been through the Midwest for work before. What are
- 2:12Speaker 4: those things that you guys have that are on the menu.
- 2:15Speaker 4: They're fried and they're uh little and hush puppies not
- 2:21Speaker 4: hush puppies. The other things, not fritters. They're what's they
- 2:26Speaker 4: come people eat them with gravy. I think biscuits, not biscuits.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, this is gonna drive me nuts. It's
- 2:35Speaker 4: like it's not like cottage cheese, but it's kind of
- 2:38Speaker 4: like cottage cheese.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Cheese curds.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Cheese curds.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's a Wisconsin thing. You go to Indiana
- 2:45Speaker 3: and you know, it's not uncommon for your vegetables at
- 2:48Speaker 3: a meal to be like mashed potatoes and corn.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That's like what your your vegetables.
- 2:53Speaker 3: And if you go to dinner, like your vegetable would
- 2:56Speaker 3: be like a fried okra, fried pickles, fried mushrooms.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Good.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Winnie, this Fourth of July will probably be more animated,
- 3:07Speaker 4: I'm assuming than last year. What are you hoping to
- 3:10Speaker 4: do with Winnie on this break?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Animated is a good word. She's she's definitely animated right now. Yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 3: she does. She doesn't stop. And so a few things
- 3:22Speaker 3: that are on my goal list. One, my parents have
- 3:26Speaker 3: a wonderful pontoon and Winnie currently loves to sit in
- 3:30Speaker 3: the driver's seat of my truck and like act like
- 3:32Speaker 3: she's driving.
- 3:33Speaker 2: M hm.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So I can't wait for her to actually like sit
- 3:36Speaker 3: behind the wheel the pontoon and drive uh and just
- 3:40Speaker 3: twirl around the lake with her doing that, I can't
- 3:42Speaker 3: it just it's gonna bring me a ton of joy.
- 3:44Speaker 3: She also is old enough now where she likes water
- 3:48Speaker 3: doesn't freak her out. And so there's some really cool
- 3:50Speaker 3: like sandbars that are shallow and she can flop around
- 3:54Speaker 3: in those and splash water and run. The town that
- 3:59Speaker 3: I grew up in built this beautiful splash pad for kids.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Last year, she's a little young, like when water sprayed
- 4:07Speaker 3: up it kind of scared her, and so this year,
- 4:08Speaker 3: I don't think it's gonna.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Scare at all.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Also, it's like we're getting close, we're not quite there,
- 4:15Speaker 3: Like she's not we're not doing sugar, so like no candy.
- 4:19Speaker 3: But the she she's in the truck.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Stage of childhood.
- 4:23Speaker 3: She loves trucks, points out every truck that comes by.
- 4:27Speaker 3: So the the parade will be a blast. And then
- 4:32Speaker 3: alongside of that the fair is going on, so she's
- 4:35Speaker 3: going to get to see all of her babas, which
- 4:38Speaker 3: is animals.
- 4:39Speaker 2: That's what she calls her dog is a boba. It's brother,
- 4:43Speaker 2: but that's also means cow. Horse, pig, rabbit. So she's
- 4:47Speaker 2: going to see a ton of babas.
- 4:49Speaker 5: I love that.
- 4:50Speaker 4: And then fireworks obviously is not going to be exciting
- 4:53Speaker 4: for her, a little scary.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I don't know yet, you know, I think exciting fireworks
- 4:58Speaker 3: are so weird as a As an adult, I love them,
- 5:01Speaker 3: But I think as a kid, I think the first
- 5:03Speaker 3: time you actually understand what's going on, it could be
- 5:06Speaker 3: a little scary.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Do you do the headphones thing with her to like
- 5:09Speaker 4: muffle the noise.
- 5:11Speaker 3: We'll probably put her inside and let her look out
- 5:13Speaker 3: the window at him. Mm hmm, but yeah, we'll do
- 5:15Speaker 3: the headphone thing. The benefit is so many of my
- 5:19Speaker 3: friends back home have kids around when he's age that
- 5:21Speaker 3: I have a feeling like they'll just be all watching
- 5:24Speaker 3: together and yeah, like you know, there's a power in community,
- 5:27Speaker 3: and so they can all just be confused at what's
- 5:29Speaker 3: happening and you know, maybe have a little more fun
- 5:32Speaker 3: at it.
- 5:34Speaker 4: The real question is Whylan, how does he do?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Because doesn't This.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Will be Percy's first fourth of July. He was actually
- 5:42Speaker 4: born on like July fifth last year, so I'm kind
- 5:47Speaker 4: of nervous as to how he's going to deal with that.
- 5:51Speaker 3: For as wild as my dog is, and for as
- 5:54Speaker 3: you know, much as things bother him, like cars driving by,
- 5:59Speaker 3: fireworks have ever messed with him. He just kind of
- 6:02Speaker 3: like chills. He'll nap during It's weird. I don't get it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: But he also has been going back. That's one thing
- 6:09Speaker 3: that's always fun. He's gone back every year since he's
- 6:12Speaker 3: been born, to Indiana and from Colorado to get to
- 6:16Speaker 3: the water. Like he he'll get out of that truck
- 6:20Speaker 3: and sprint to the lake to swim.
- 6:24Speaker 2: He loves it. It's great.
- 6:25Speaker 3: So everybody's starting the process of getting very excited for
- 6:33Speaker 3: the weeks ahead.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And I couldn't be more excited for it.
- 6:37Speaker 5: I love it.
- 6:37Speaker 4: And then I can't remember if we talked about this.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Do you do a reading gol. Do you do a
- 6:42Speaker 4: lot of reading on this week off that you take.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I mean, I like to read.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I'll bring one book. If I can get through one book,
- 6:49Speaker 3: I'll be happy. I'm not a speed reader. I'm not
- 6:52Speaker 3: a very fast reader.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Me neither.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's you know, a lot of this trip
- 6:57Speaker 3: is going to be reading while when he's now, because
- 7:01Speaker 3: so much of it is when she's awake. I want
- 7:03Speaker 3: to experience this year with her in the most possible
- 7:09Speaker 3: like way. So I want to soak it in. But
- 7:11Speaker 3: I'll bring one book and get it read lash Well, no,
- 7:14Speaker 3: I'm going to give myself credit. Two years ago I
- 7:18Speaker 3: read THEO of Golden over the Fourth and then all
- 7:21Speaker 3: of a sudden, The THEO of Golden made the New
- 7:22Speaker 3: York Times bestseller this year. I've always said to Jess,
- 7:25Speaker 3: that's one thing I can say. I was trendy on
- 7:28Speaker 3: I was before everybody else when it came to how
- 7:30Speaker 3: good the THEO of Golden is. So I need to
- 7:33Speaker 3: find like that perfect like joy filled, rest filled read
- 7:39Speaker 3: that's probably fiction and maybe like a Western theme. I
- 7:45Speaker 3: think there's a book out right now called The Horse.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I think I might go into.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Okay, but I can't forget like you drive to Indiana, right,
- 7:53Speaker 4: So I mean, don't knock an audio book either.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I'm going the whole time. Yeah, there you go.
- 8:00Speaker 4: He got one finished in forty eight hours last week.
- 8:02Speaker 4: I was like, whoa it was because I was in
- 8:03Speaker 4: the car for once.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's exactly. The audiobook is my go to
- 8:08Speaker 3: because I walk so much in my neighborhood. Yes, that's
- 8:10Speaker 3: all right, A big audiobook fan Wells got me into it.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Wells Adams got me into it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: He made it.
- 8:16Speaker 3: He I think, Wells has I don't want to like
- 8:18Speaker 3: put this on him if he doesn't, but like dyslexia
- 8:21Speaker 3: and so he has a hard time like sitting down
- 8:23Speaker 3: and reading, but he loves books. And so he was like, no,
- 8:26Speaker 3: listening to a book is not reading a book, but
- 8:29Speaker 3: it is you can say that you've read it once
- 8:31Speaker 3: it's done because you can like talk to people about it.
- 8:35Speaker 3: And I was like, yeah, you're right. So I have
- 8:36Speaker 3: a little I have a lot of like pride and
- 8:39Speaker 3: listening to audio books. I can get through them so
- 8:41Speaker 3: much faster, obviously, so much faster.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I mean, and it's great when you find an I mean,
- 8:46Speaker 4: I'm at the point now where I've listened to so
- 8:49Speaker 4: many that it's like, if the production value is low
- 8:52Speaker 4: on the audio book, I'm not finding it as enjoyable
- 8:55Speaker 4: as the ones that hire different actors to do different
- 8:58Speaker 4: voices and do sound effects, Like those are the ones
- 9:01Speaker 4: that do it really really good.
- 9:04Speaker 3: There's one out there right now. Neil Patrick Harris narrated
- 9:07Speaker 3: called How to Murder Your Employer.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It's awesome to listen to.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I love that.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Don't worry, Heather. It didn't give me. It didn't give
- 9:16Speaker 2: me ideas, but it's so good.
- 9:18Speaker 5: I love it well.
- 9:19Speaker 4: I love all these Fourth of July plans for you.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Have a wonderful week off, Ben. You deserve it, Hey,
- 9:27Speaker 4: thank you so much, Heather. Happy fourth everybody, everybody.
- 9:40Speaker 6: It's Bob getting here from almost Famous, the Ogs and
- 9:44Speaker 6: a little bit famous and Fourth of.
- 9:47Speaker 5: July right around the corner.
- 9:49Speaker 6: Happy Birthday America man, two hundred and fifty.
- 9:52Speaker 5: This is a big one.
- 9:54Speaker 6: But I will tell you, growing up, I would always
- 9:56Speaker 6: go to my lake house with my whole family, and
- 10:00Speaker 6: my parents bought this place when I was three years old,
- 10:02Speaker 6: and it is just my happy place and I love it.
- 10:05Speaker 5: But the big old fireworks, the whole bit.
- 10:07Speaker 6: And now you know, now that I have my own family,
- 10:09Speaker 6: of course we build on that tradition.
- 10:11Speaker 5: We go every year somewhere around the.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Fourth of July holiday, but we've also started doing some
- 10:16Speaker 6: things on our own on the fourth as well, you know.
- 10:18Speaker 6: And for me, the fourth is all about family and
- 10:21Speaker 6: friends and fireworks, the three f's there you go, and food,
- 10:26Speaker 6: the four fs. So man, I just I love I
- 10:29Speaker 6: love that holiday so much. I'll always have the best time.
- 10:33Speaker 6: I got all the red, white and blue outfits going,
- 10:36Speaker 6: and and my boys love to make some noise, both
- 10:39Speaker 6: with the fireworks and just going absolutely bonkers celebrating the
- 10:43Speaker 6: Fourth of July holiday.
- 10:44Speaker 5: So this year, well, actually last year, I'm sorry.
- 10:47Speaker 6: Last year we started the tradition too where we watched
- 10:49Speaker 6: the Joey Chestnut hot dog eating Contest, which has also
- 10:53Speaker 6: been a lot of fun.
- 10:55Speaker 5: And I swear to you, I think I could actually compete.
- 10:57Speaker 6: I'm not gonna lie, but if I didn't to do
- 11:00Speaker 6: the buns, I think it'd be totally good to go
- 11:02Speaker 6: and buy buns. I mean the hot dog buns. I know,
- 11:04Speaker 6: kind of girls, but whatever, but you know, they soak
- 11:07Speaker 6: them and they eat them. But I'm a mustard guy.
- 11:09Speaker 5: No ketchup needed.
- 11:11Speaker 6: So this year we'll be going to my lake house
- 11:13Speaker 6: of course, my family's lake house for the lead up
- 11:16Speaker 6: weekend to the fourth, and then midway through the week
- 11:21Speaker 6: we're heading out to North Carolina to our friend's place
- 11:24Speaker 6: for the second year in a row.
- 11:26Speaker 5: And then we're going to Myrtle Beach as a family.
- 11:29Speaker 5: And I'm super duper excited.
- 11:30Speaker 6: I've never been to Myrtle Beach really looking forward to
- 11:33Speaker 6: going there with our kids and just spending the week
- 11:36Speaker 6: and having the best time ever. So I wish all
- 11:39Speaker 6: of you out there the happiest fourth of July holiday.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Happy Birthday, America. I'm all about it. I'm going to
- 11:46Speaker 6: be all decked in the red, white and blue. If
- 11:48Speaker 6: you happen to be in Myrtle Beach and you see
- 11:49Speaker 6: me walking by, make sure you stop me and say
- 11:52Speaker 6: hello and let us know that you love the show,
- 11:53Speaker 6: because I always love hearing it. So thank you, guys
- 11:56Speaker 6: for letting us into your homes and for letting us
- 11:58Speaker 6: into your ears, and for listen and for watching.
- 12:01Speaker 5: And I wish you all the happiest Fourth of July holiday.
