- 0:04Speaker 1: US gets another life and it works out for them.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's the FT Live postgame Show. It's presented by Fox One.
- 0:10Speaker 1: That's where you can watch all of the WBC games.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's Braun, It's Kratz, and it's man who played a
- 0:15Speaker 1: lot of baseball in Canada, but he is an American,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Kevin Polar KP. I'm going to go there. Canada has
- 0:23Speaker 1: a problem with the US right now in sports. Sorry
- 0:26Speaker 1: about it too soon, whatever you want to say.
- 0:28Speaker 2: For it's been three really tough ones in the last
- 0:35Speaker 2: you know, four or five months. Canada is going to
- 0:38Speaker 2: get their shot again. But once again, for the audience
- 0:41Speaker 2: out there, I am American. So I was rooting for
- 0:43Speaker 2: Team USA today as I have always been rooting for
- 0:46Speaker 2: Team USA. The only one that hurt my feelings a
- 0:49Speaker 2: little bit obviously the Blue Jay is losing to the
- 0:51Speaker 2: Dodgers in the World Series.
- 0:52Speaker 3: That I was rooting for Canada.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That is fair. So what happened? Kratz? Do you feel
- 0:57Speaker 1: better about Team USA now heading into a mapp against
- 1:00Speaker 1: you know, just a little Dominican Republic team that is
- 1:04Speaker 1: full of superstars, enthusiasm and a want for this title,
- 1:10Speaker 1: maybe more than a World Series. If you were watching
- 1:13Speaker 1: our Trisua Whitaker talking to Julio Rodriguez about twenty four
- 1:16Speaker 1: hours ago about this.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I never felt bad about the US team. There was
- 1:22Speaker 3: also nothing that they were going to show me in
- 1:24Speaker 3: tonight's game against Canada that was going to tell me
- 1:28Speaker 3: that the dr was scared of them. US wasn't going
- 1:32Speaker 3: to do anything that they weren't gonna They weren't going
- 1:34Speaker 3: to score fifteen runs against Canada. They weren't going to
- 1:38Speaker 3: start bat flipping or any kind of swaggy swag that
- 1:41Speaker 3: the Dominican is at home going, whoa, we're afraid of
- 1:45Speaker 3: that team they have. We'll get We'll get to that
- 1:48Speaker 3: matchup coming up. But I was never worried about the
- 1:51Speaker 3: US team. All the kerfuffle that was going on, it
- 1:54Speaker 3: was it was Ancillary's stuff. It was stuff outside of
- 1:58Speaker 3: the players. The players domain. The players are still the players.
- 2:03Speaker 3: The lineup is ridiculous. The fact that Pete Crow Armstrong
- 2:06Speaker 3: and Bryce Terrang are doing two of the best guys
- 2:10Speaker 3: that are hitting on the team, or the eight to
- 2:12Speaker 3: nine hitters in their regular lineup.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So this was actually a pretty close game when you
- 2:21Speaker 1: add it all up. You said they weren't going to
- 2:23Speaker 1: really convince you of anything different. Well, I will say, KP,
- 2:29Speaker 1: if we take out the first two tune up games
- 2:31Speaker 1: for Team USA, they have not looked dominant against team
- 2:35Speaker 1: teams that have big leaguers. Right, So they won by
- 2:38Speaker 1: two over Mexico, they got blasted by Team Italy, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: now up against Canada, which does have twenty plus big leaguers,
- 2:45Speaker 1: they won by two. Are you more worried about the
- 2:49Speaker 1: pitching or the hitting going into what could be Dominican
- 2:52Speaker 1: Republican then either Japan or Venezuela after that?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Well, I first want to say what krat said. I
- 2:58Speaker 2: think I with what he said. I don't think there's
- 3:01Speaker 2: anything they could have done or did tonight to scare
- 3:05Speaker 2: the dominic or Republic of their matchup. But I think
- 3:08Speaker 2: as a fan of Team USA, I think there's a
- 3:11Speaker 2: lot they could have shown tonight to give you a
- 3:12Speaker 2: little bit more confidence going into that matchup. The fact
- 3:16Speaker 2: that you know, really in that seventh inning, you know,
- 3:20Speaker 2: Canada had their best hitter up, their leader, their captain,
- 3:23Speaker 2: with a runner at second and third base and no outs,
- 3:26Speaker 2: and unfortunately didn't come up with, you know, being able
- 3:29Speaker 2: to advance the runners and get a run across there.
- 3:32Speaker 2: But that game got very close to being a tie
- 3:35Speaker 2: score going into the you know, bottom of the seventh inning,
- 3:38Speaker 2: top of the eighth inning. I think they could have
- 3:41Speaker 2: shown I think if they would have came out and
- 3:43Speaker 2: they would have just dominated Team Canada like we felt
- 3:46Speaker 2: like they should be doing, I think I would have
- 3:48Speaker 2: had a lot more confidence for them going into this
- 3:50Speaker 2: next matchup.
- 3:51Speaker 3: But to answer your.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Question right now, it's honestly, I mean, Paul Skens is
- 3:55Speaker 2: gonna pitch tomorrow. I think you were when they played
- 3:57Speaker 2: team when they played the Dominic Republic. I think you
- 3:59Speaker 2: have to have all the confidence in the world Monday, sorry,
- 4:02Speaker 2: I think you have to have all the confidence Sunday.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I think you're gonna have all the confidence in the world.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And him starting that game, yes he's on a shorter
- 4:09Speaker 2: leash than normal, but I think you have to be
- 4:12Speaker 2: a static if your team USA and he's taking the bump.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But right now, I think it's the offense. I think
- 4:16Speaker 2: it's just sometimes when you put the best players in
- 4:20Speaker 2: everyone's team on the same team, the lineup doesn't have
- 4:23Speaker 2: the same flow as a normal lineup. And I think
- 4:26Speaker 2: you know, in normal circumstances when you have a bunch
- 4:29Speaker 2: of when you have superstars and you have a bunch
- 4:32Speaker 2: of role players, everyone kind of fits into the role.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But when you have all the team's best players, there's
- 4:36Speaker 2: just not a lot of continuity in their lineup. And
- 4:38Speaker 2: I think that's why you're seeing these guys at the
- 4:40Speaker 2: bottom of the order who are superstars, but they're also,
- 4:44Speaker 2: you know, not the you know, Bryce Harper's and Aaron
- 4:46Speaker 2: Judges of the world. I think they're just kind of
- 4:49Speaker 2: fitting in where they're supposed to and they're just trying
- 4:52Speaker 2: to do their job. It feels like everyone else is
- 4:54Speaker 2: trying to carry the team. So the offense scares me
- 4:57Speaker 2: right now a little bit.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I said I would have said. Besides the fact that
- 5:02Speaker 3: Paul Skeens is going I mean, obviously you have the
- 5:05Speaker 3: best the best start to any career of any big
- 5:08Speaker 3: league pitcher in Paul Skins. To me, just the overall
- 5:12Speaker 3: fact that the home run tonight by Bo Naylor for
- 5:16Speaker 3: Team Canada was the most home runs that any team
- 5:20Speaker 3: has given up. So Team USA has given up the
- 5:23Speaker 3: most home runs their entire pitching staff. So as a whole,
- 5:28Speaker 3: that's not great. I get it's from Nolan mclan and
- 5:31Speaker 3: Ryan Yarborough who who might not be pitching in big spots.
- 5:35Speaker 3: We don't know what's going to happen, but it's just
- 5:37Speaker 3: overall as a team that's kind of concerning. It's concerning
- 5:41Speaker 3: that they're giving up those home runs. It's also they're
- 5:44Speaker 3: playing in Houston, so you know, it's a little bit
- 5:47Speaker 3: shorter to the to the gaps down to Crawford boxes.
- 5:50Speaker 3: But I don't know, I guess, I guess. I just
- 5:53Speaker 3: trust the lineup, trusting the lineup that they're going to hit.
- 5:57Speaker 3: But you're also facing some dudes. You face three dudes
- 6:01Speaker 3: that they had no idea who they were, Wilkinson, Ashman
- 6:06Speaker 3: and I forget the other guy that uh Well pitched
- 6:09Speaker 3: for Canada.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Well. Also, Felipamont appeared for the ninetieth time in the
- 6:15Speaker 1: World Baseball Classic. He's done, I think for them what
- 6:17Speaker 1: they say, he's a farmer now. He's been out of
- 6:19Speaker 1: the game for a long time. You guys both probably
- 6:23Speaker 1: faced him. And I don't know, Kratz, did you come
- 6:24Speaker 1: across him? Were you in the same word with him?
- 6:26Speaker 1: On the Phillies.
- 6:27Speaker 3: One of my good friends that I haven't my buddy.
- 6:30Speaker 3: My buddy texted me, he goes, Felipa Mont is still
- 6:32Speaker 3: playing and I was like, that's what I said. His
- 6:36Speaker 3: phone numbers changed, some of the relationships that he's had
- 6:40Speaker 3: have changed, so I couldn't even get a hold of
- 6:42Speaker 3: that person anymore. So like I would love to talk
- 6:45Speaker 3: to Filipa Mont, but watching him pitch was unbelieving. I
- 6:48Speaker 3: mean a was my golf partner, he was my roommate
- 6:51Speaker 3: one time. Like this guy was the Bee's knees in
- 6:55Speaker 3: the Cliff Lee trade. He was. And for him to
- 6:58Speaker 3: pop out of the pop out of the Canadian bullpen.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I saw he was on a roster yesterday and to
- 7:03Speaker 3: see him pop out of the Canadian bullpen tonight, I
- 7:06Speaker 3: was like, this is this is unbelievable. He used to throw.
- 7:10Speaker 3: He used to be an easy cheese ninety nine miles
- 7:13Speaker 3: an hour.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We love Hello Fresh shout out to them, and over
- 7:19Speaker 1: one hundred recipes to choose from each week to provide variety.
- 7:22Speaker 1: There the spice of life. They don't make it boring
- 7:25Speaker 1: for you when you're preparing food. Also, there's three times
- 7:28Speaker 1: the seafood for no up charge. AJ They wanted you
- 7:31Speaker 1: to know that you can impress your guests or your

- 7:40Speaker 3: Well, listen, Scott, I'm trying to stay in my playing
- 7:42Speaker 3: slash fighting shape, So I need the seafood. I need
- 7:44Speaker 3: the protein, and I need the veggies.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And plus I want to look cool when people come
- 7:47Speaker 2: over and say, wow, you made all this stuff.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And I'll be like easy peasy a new slogan, HelloFresh

- 8:10Speaker 1: first box new subscribers only varies by plan because when
- 8:14Speaker 1: dinner tastes this good, nothing hits like home cooking twenty
- 8:18Speaker 1: eight years ago. No, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. It has
- 8:21Speaker 1: been a while. I mean he hasn't pitched in the
- 8:23Speaker 1: Big League since twenty fifteen. Twenty fifteen, it's twenty twenty trads.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yeah, he was the Cliff Lee trade back when he
- 8:31Speaker 3: went Cliffley went. People probably only remember Cliffley went from
- 8:34Speaker 3: the Phillies to the Mariners in a trade because they
- 8:39Speaker 3: weren't going to extend him. And then Cliffley ended up
- 8:41Speaker 3: coming back in free agency to the Phillies. And so eleven,
- 8:46Speaker 3: twelve and thirteen, I played with Felipe Belmont in the
- 8:49Speaker 3: big leagues and in Triple A together.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And then wasn't he eventually on the Blue Jays or
- 8:55Speaker 1: in the Blue Jays system too?
- 8:57Speaker 3: He tried, he made, he tried to make a comeback.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Okay, right enough.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think he formally asked for his release so that
- 9:05Speaker 2: he could participate in this. I think he was. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 2: I think he like was still in the Blue Jays
- 9:13Speaker 2: organization in some capacity and they had to formally release
- 9:16Speaker 2: him so that he can go out in Pittsford team Canada.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Wow, still after eleven years not pitching in the big leagues,
- 9:24Speaker 1: they own you like that. I mean, I knew that,
- 9:26Speaker 1: you know, late bloomers can get stuck in the arbitration
- 9:29Speaker 1: U contingency for a long period of time, but I
- 9:31Speaker 1: didn't know it was that bad geez. You guys got
- 9:33Speaker 1: to work on that in your next CBA. Anyway, Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 1: thank you. Other parts of this game, let's point out
- 9:41Speaker 1: number one. I mean, the tam Usa offense was not
- 9:45Speaker 1: knocking the cover off the ball, but they got the
- 9:47Speaker 1: job done right making contact and I actually felt like
- 9:50Speaker 1: you saw some similarities with tem Usa and the Dominican Republic.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I didn't get to watch that whole game because eventually
- 9:54Speaker 1: transitioned here, but dr poured in most of their runs
- 9:58Speaker 1: and what a two inning span, and they weren't going
- 10:01Speaker 1: off power wise either. But you get to see how
- 10:03Speaker 1: some of these stars can play to what's given to them,
- 10:08Speaker 1: string together some hits and score some runs that actually
- 10:11Speaker 1: started right off the jump with the Bobby Witt nine
- 10:14Speaker 1: pitch walk that helped. I felt like there was a
- 10:15Speaker 1: little bit of a sigh of relief. It's been kind
- 10:17Speaker 1: of a lot for Team USA over the past forty
- 10:21Speaker 1: eight hours, and we've gone over what's caused all of that,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and Mark de Rosa has certainly taken a little bit
- 10:28Speaker 1: of heat. He spoke and essentially said during the game
- 10:31Speaker 1: that everybody's his A lineup because there was a lot
- 10:33Speaker 1: of A lineup versus B lineup. The quote A lineup
- 10:36Speaker 1: was back in there and they put five runs together.
- 10:39Speaker 1: But KP, what did you think of the way that
- 10:41Speaker 1: they swung the bats today? Yeah, there wasn't power. They
- 10:44Speaker 1: weren't barreling balls left and right, but they did what
- 10:48Speaker 1: they needed to do to create some offense. Yes, against
- 10:52Speaker 1: some pitchers that are not the world's finest.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And I think if this was game eighty one of
- 10:59Speaker 2: a regular season, you say, hey, they did enough to win,
- 11:02Speaker 2: but you know this is win or go home, and
- 11:05Speaker 2: this is our version of the dream team, you would
- 11:08Speaker 2: expect them to be able to put more than five
- 11:10Speaker 2: runs across the board against. Like Cratsey mentioned, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 2: they have a couple pictures that aren't big league pitchers
- 11:16Speaker 2: and names we haven't really heard of. Not to take
- 11:19Speaker 2: away from their talent and what they're able to do,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but these guys are used to facing the best in
- 11:23Speaker 2: the world and being able to go out and dominate
- 11:26Speaker 2: every day. I think there's just a challenge with a lineup.
- 11:29Speaker 2: It's not the fault Mark de Rosa and who he
- 11:32Speaker 2: puts in the lineup, or how you know this whole
- 11:34Speaker 2: team was brought together. It's just when you ask a
- 11:38Speaker 2: bunch of superstars to get on one team and to
- 11:41Speaker 2: just kind of try to figure it out. You know,
- 11:43Speaker 2: lineups have flows to them. You know, I think when
- 11:45Speaker 2: you think about some of the best lineups in baseball,
- 11:48Speaker 2: a lot of times those lineups have been together for
- 11:50Speaker 2: a long time. Everyone kind of knows their role within
- 11:53Speaker 2: that lineup, and you're asking people to potentially do different
- 11:56Speaker 2: things than normal than they normally do. There's some challenge
- 12:00Speaker 2: to it, but ultimately, when you have that much talent
- 12:03Speaker 2: on a roster, you're going to figure out ways to
- 12:05Speaker 2: get you know, w's. You just have to worry about
- 12:08Speaker 2: when they when they in their next matchup and they're
- 12:11Speaker 2: facing you know, a legit starter and then the bullpen
- 12:15Speaker 2: for the dr is going to be legit. It's gonna
- 12:17Speaker 2: be you know, legit guys coming out of that bullpen.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Are they going to be able to manufacture enough runs?
- 12:23Speaker 2: And you know, obviously there's questioning on the pitching side
- 12:25Speaker 2: after Paul Skens goes, are they going to be able
- 12:28Speaker 2: to keep up high octane offense down like the Dominican
- 12:31Speaker 2: Republic down.
- 12:33Speaker 3: It's going to be a very interesting matchup. What I
- 12:36Speaker 3: want to see is how d Row and his staff
- 12:39Speaker 3: figures out who's going to play the next game. He's
- 12:42Speaker 3: already said that will Smith will catch, which is one
- 12:46Speaker 3: of my question marks, not saying that cal Raley shouldn't
- 12:48Speaker 3: be in there, but Will Smith is very good. Cal
- 12:52Speaker 3: Raley is very good. Cal Raley doesn't have a hit
- 12:55Speaker 3: yet this series this WBC. Do they keep right Harper
- 13:00Speaker 3: in there. I don't think they're gonna mix. I don't
- 13:02Speaker 3: think they're gonna put Paul Goldschmidt back in there, so
- 13:04Speaker 3: I think it's still Bryce Harper. But then the other
- 13:07Speaker 3: question is Alex Bregman, like he's not doing as well
- 13:12Speaker 3: as say Gunner Henderson in the time that he's gone
- 13:15Speaker 3: in there. Do they go to Gunner Henderson with a
- 13:18Speaker 3: guy like Luis Severino. Do they go with, hey, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 3: how have you done against Louis Severina. It'll be interesting
- 13:24Speaker 3: to see how they how they build this lineup with
- 13:28Speaker 3: those pieces that have when they've been in there, they've
- 13:31Speaker 3: done well. Do they move Bryce Harper down? Do they
- 13:34Speaker 3: put Gunner Henderson in and say, Gunner, you're hitting second
- 13:38Speaker 3: because Bobby you go right left right to judge and
- 13:42Speaker 3: you know, so I think there's I think there's some choices,
- 13:45Speaker 3: Like like KP said, they're gonna have to score, and
- 13:49Speaker 3: they're gonna have to score against Severino, and then they're
- 13:51Speaker 3: gonna have to score against ninety nine to one hundred
- 13:54Speaker 3: and one from every dude coming out in the bullpen.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, what do they do in center field?
- 13:59Speaker 2: Is well, you know, as I mean, if you think
- 14:02Speaker 2: about there is no A and B. But there was
- 14:05Speaker 2: the initial lineup and Byron Buckson was in that initial lineup,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and then it was Pete crow Armstrong, and then it
- 14:10Speaker 2: was Byron Buckers and then it seems like it's been
- 14:12Speaker 2: pc A you know, last two games. Do they stay
- 14:16Speaker 2: with him? You know, we don't really know what goes
- 14:20Speaker 2: on behind closed doors. The conversations with uh, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 2: when you when you ask permission for these guys to
- 14:26Speaker 2: play and what their team's expectations are. Is Byron Buckson
- 14:29Speaker 2: a guy that you know has to play. Can he
- 14:32Speaker 2: sit a couple of days in a row, because right
- 14:33Speaker 2: now PCA has been arguably one of their best hitters.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Does Hee go out there and play on Sunday? There's
- 14:40Speaker 2: there's some tough decisions that you know, the ros is
- 14:43Speaker 2: gonna have to make, but some of them are out
- 14:45Speaker 2: of his control, I believe too.
- 14:48Speaker 1: It's funny. I'm going through the comments while you guys
- 14:50Speaker 1: are chatting that there's one who's particularly going hard at US,
- 14:54Speaker 1: like why does it seem like these guys are at
- 14:56Speaker 1: a memorial service? Did they lose money on the game?
- 14:59Speaker 1: And then there are plenty of others pointing out, hey,
- 15:02Speaker 1: when the US wins by two runs against Team Canada
- 15:06Speaker 1: here with no superstars, does that really instill confidence against
- 15:09Speaker 1: the Dominican Republic. So before we spin it forward and
- 15:13Speaker 1: start previewing, I do want to say, like, sure, we're
- 15:16Speaker 1: all rooting for the US, we're excited about it, but
- 15:18Speaker 1: I do think that we should be critical at times
- 15:22Speaker 1: like this wasn't one hey if they like had a
- 15:25Speaker 1: freaking party, US you know, wins ten two, they're bashing Homers.
- 15:29Speaker 1: We're like, oh shit, this looks like a different team now, right.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Forget everything from the pool and how they had to
- 15:35Speaker 1: sit there and be Italian for a night and root
- 15:38Speaker 1: for Team Italy to win and all of that. This
- 15:40Speaker 1: team is showing their colors now and it's like, yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 1: they played well, it was fine, But like you said, Kratz,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I mean, nothing was going to show you something one
- 15:49Speaker 1: way or another. For me, I would say if they
- 15:54Speaker 1: put up a ten spot, I would feel a little better. Here,
- 15:58Speaker 1: let me phrase it this way. It's still spring training.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Season wise, most years, these superstars are used to building
- 16:07Speaker 1: themselves up, Right, some guys are slow starters in their career,
- 16:10Speaker 1: Aaron Judges, not clearly if you look at last year.
- 16:13Speaker 1: But some guys are, Like how much do you think
- 16:15Speaker 1: that's a factor here with players?
- 16:18Speaker 3: Right?
- 16:18Speaker 1: If everybody's quote in mid season form and then heading
- 16:20Speaker 1: to the postseason, it's not like you always see the
- 16:22Speaker 1: best version of a player then, But do you think
- 16:24Speaker 1: there are some players that don't completely have their superpowers
- 16:29Speaker 1: and aren't able to find it at this time of
- 16:31Speaker 1: year as much?
- 16:33Speaker 3: For sure? And you probably have to ask somebody that's
- 16:35Speaker 3: closer to superstar status, somebody that played every day compared
- 16:40Speaker 3: to somebody who's on the bench. I felt like the
- 16:42Speaker 3: times that I played in the playoffs and the times
- 16:45Speaker 3: that I played in international competition, my number is elevated
- 16:49Speaker 3: because of the fact that I understood not playing every
- 16:54Speaker 3: single day. Some of these guys are not playing every day,
- 16:57Speaker 3: or I understood that at the beginning of spring training,
- 17:01Speaker 3: I gotta be ready, Like if I'm not ready for
- 17:04Speaker 3: this moment, like I could get cut, I could where
- 17:08Speaker 3: these guys, like you said, or you kind of alluded
- 17:10Speaker 3: to Scott, they're trying to get in their rhythm. And
- 17:14Speaker 3: the best thing you can do is getting a rhythm
- 17:17Speaker 3: to the very first game of the season and bang,
- 17:20Speaker 3: you're playing. You're playing four days in a row, then
- 17:22Speaker 3: you guys have an off day, then you're playing six
- 17:25Speaker 3: days in a row, and all of a sudden, now
- 17:26Speaker 3: you're in a rhythm and as an everyday player. And
- 17:28Speaker 3: all these guys are everyday players, and they take care
- 17:31Speaker 3: of business for the entire season because they're gonna get
- 17:34Speaker 3: six hundred at bats. You can run into a little
- 17:37Speaker 3: bit of a schmeck here and there, and that's okay.
- 17:40Speaker 3: The issue is it might not be okay when you
- 17:42Speaker 3: get eliminated. So that's the issue here, and you're never
- 17:46Speaker 3: You're never gonna be like, oh well, if that's the case,
- 17:48Speaker 3: then we should just get all bench players. No. I'm
- 17:51Speaker 3: just saying, they got to want it, and they have
- 17:54Speaker 3: to want it more than a team that wants it
- 17:56Speaker 3: more than any team in the Dominican Republic that I've
- 17:59Speaker 3: seen in this tournament.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Okay, let's do this. I think it's time. Let's spin
- 18:04Speaker 1: this forward. Let's have some fun. You want a little spice, Okay.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I am as excited for this game as almost any
- 18:09Speaker 1: game for years. This is the premier matchup. The best
- 18:14Speaker 1: game and the best experience of my life was the
- 18:17Speaker 1: US against the Dominican Republic in twenty seventeen when I
- 18:20Speaker 1: was able to call that game. So let's do this.
- 18:23Speaker 1: The United States is matching up against Dominican Republic. If
- 18:27Speaker 1: you want dumb amounts of superstar power in the lineup,
- 18:31Speaker 1: this is for you. This is, in my mind, better
- 18:34Speaker 1: than seeing two all star teams. Actually not even close.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Of course, they're playing for something real. There should be
- 18:39Speaker 1: a lot more togetherness. This is a real all star game, right.
- 18:43Speaker 1: This is everything that every sport dreams of, every league
- 18:46Speaker 1: dreams of hockey has been able to create this just recently.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You get the best players in the world like US
- 18:50Speaker 1: and DR and lineup y specifically. There's plenty of good
- 18:53Speaker 1: pitching there too, but we know that in this tournament,
- 18:56Speaker 1: especially from a team like the US, you don't get
- 18:59Speaker 1: all the best big lineup wise you do, so we're
- 19:03Speaker 1: super pumped for this. All the games are on Fox one,
- 19:05Speaker 1: by the way, so let's rip that real quick too,
- 19:08Speaker 1: to let everyone know. You can get a seven day
- 19:10Speaker 1: free trial of Fox one today. So if you've had
- 19:13Speaker 1: any issues, say you don't have cable or you're looking
- 19:16Speaker 1: for the games, sure you can go to any of
- 19:18Speaker 1: the TV stations that are carrying it, like now Fox
- 19:21Speaker 1: but before that FS ONEFS too, the whole deal. Otherwise,
- 19:24Speaker 1: Fox one is for you. Go get the app seven
- 19:27Speaker 1: day free trial, Baseball season around the Corner, regular season
- 19:30Speaker 1: Baseball Saturdays with AJ and many others. So check it out. Okay,
- 19:36Speaker 1: let's do this kp US against DR. What are you
- 19:40Speaker 1: thinking is going to happen in this game? Where do
- 19:43Speaker 1: you like matchups?
- 19:46Speaker 2: I mean, first of all, it's a one game playoff,
- 19:49Speaker 2: so anything could happen. But you know, I think the
- 19:52Speaker 2: DR is just coming in offensively, swinging the bats really well,
- 19:56Speaker 2: with a lot of momentum, a lot of swag, and
- 19:59Speaker 2: like you mentioned, you know, and Julio Rodriguez even mentioned it,
- 20:03Speaker 2: like this is for a lot of Dominican born players,
- 20:06Speaker 2: this is bigger than the World Series. For them to
- 20:09Speaker 2: win a gold medal and represent their country, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 2: is the pinnacle of their career. And not to say
- 20:17Speaker 2: it's not as important to some of the guys.
- 20:20Speaker 1: On Team USA.
- 20:23Speaker 2: It's just such a cultural difference. You know, when you
- 20:25Speaker 2: grow up in the States, you dream of playing in
- 20:27Speaker 2: the big leagues and you dream of, you know, winning
- 20:29Speaker 2: a World Series. A lot of Dominican players obviously dream
- 20:33Speaker 2: of playing in the major leagues, but representing their country
- 20:36Speaker 2: is like the greatest honor they could have. So, I mean,
- 20:40Speaker 2: USA is gonna have to wake up in terms of matchups.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I mean, I think you really need to get a
- 20:45Speaker 2: lot out of Paul Skiings. I mean, if there's a
- 20:47Speaker 2: picture on the planet that can kind of navigate through
- 20:51Speaker 2: the star studded lineup that Dominican has, you have the
- 20:54Speaker 2: right guy on the mound. It's where do you go
- 20:56Speaker 2: to after Paul Skins is done? Howard do you ridge
- 21:00Speaker 2: the gap to potentially get back to you know, the
- 21:03Speaker 2: back end of the bullpen, of the bed Nards and
- 21:05Speaker 2: the Witlocks and obviously Mason Miller there. You know, that's
- 21:09Speaker 2: the question.
- 21:10Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I'm gonna defer to Cratsey here because I just think
- 21:15Speaker 2: you know, the swag and the how much it means
- 21:18Speaker 2: to the players in the Dominican might just be too
- 21:21Speaker 2: much for the US to overcome.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I guess that that's the easy answer,
- 21:25Speaker 3: and I completely agree. And I thought the Dominican was
- 21:28Speaker 3: going to be the team to be in this tournament
- 21:31Speaker 3: and they're showing that, except once you get to Paul
- 21:34Speaker 3: Skins and you say, Okay, well, how are you going
- 21:36Speaker 3: to beat Paul Skans. Paul Skeen's giving up twenty one
- 21:39Speaker 3: home runs in his first two full seasons in the
- 21:41Speaker 3: big leagues, not going to hit a lot of dingers
- 21:43Speaker 3: against them. So the Dominican who was hitting tons of
- 21:46Speaker 3: dingers before tonight, when they score ten runs with zero dingers,
- 21:54Speaker 3: So to me, that is the separator right now. If
- 21:58Speaker 3: Paul Skiings can figure out how to navigate what type
- 22:03Speaker 3: of Dominican lineup he's gonna face. Sometimes it's a catcher.
- 22:06Speaker 3: You're you're watching guys and you're like, these guys are
- 22:08Speaker 3: going for the downs right now. These guys are going
- 22:10Speaker 3: for all or nothing. And then if Paul Skins can
- 22:15Speaker 3: navigate the lineup that way, he's gonna give them five innings,
- 22:20Speaker 3: no runs, one run, and I think he's gonna have
- 22:23Speaker 3: a lot of success. If the Dominican says, We're totally
- 22:27Speaker 3: fine not hitting any home runs. We're just gonna put
- 22:30Speaker 3: the ball in play. I think Paul Skeens has to
- 22:34Speaker 3: change his approach. I think it has to be more.
- 22:37Speaker 3: It has to be more of that splinker. It has
- 22:39Speaker 3: to be more of him running balls farther in exactly
- 22:44Speaker 3: what I said about Hung Jane Ryu. He did an
- 22:46Speaker 3: okay job of tonight against the Dominican early, and then
- 22:50Speaker 3: he he didn't last very long, which you know, I
- 22:53Speaker 3: didn't know what his pitch count was going to be.
- 22:54Speaker 3: But you have to you can't. You can't live away
- 22:58Speaker 3: against the Dominican. You have to make them uncomfortable. So
- 23:01Speaker 3: the matchup to me is how many times the Dominican
- 23:05Speaker 3: hitters feet move in the first inning. Paul Skins can
- 23:08Speaker 3: get those guys from Fernando Tatis to Vladimir Guerrero to
- 23:13Speaker 3: want want so it doesn't matter. Don't don't move Wan
- 23:16Speaker 3: SODA's feet. He knows the strike zone. He's not changing
- 23:18Speaker 3: his approach. But Tatis, Vladdie, you get them to move
- 23:23Speaker 3: their feet. I'm not saying throwing up in at him.
- 23:25Speaker 3: I'm saying, move their feet now. All of a sudden
- 23:28Speaker 3: it's going to open up a way for you to
- 23:30Speaker 3: get soft contact and not get hurt with big damage
- 23:33Speaker 3: to the big part of the ballpark.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Did you say something about Homer's krafts because you know
- 23:38Speaker 1: Austin Wells Homer.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Oh, he did. Homer to walk it off. So that
- 23:43Speaker 3: was the one home run? Sorry when it was?
- 23:46Speaker 1: When it was the comments after we posted this, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: missed miss is getting more Dominican by the day. His words,
- 23:56Speaker 1: three run Homer and that is your mercy rule against Korea.
- 24:01Speaker 1: They smashed them and it's Louis Severino on the other side,
- 24:05Speaker 1: if we didn't say it already against Paul Skeans for
- 24:08Speaker 1: this one. So that is the separator, right, I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 1: you can talk about dr feeling themselves more and looking
- 24:14Speaker 1: like they're just enjoying everything more. That doesn't necessarily mean
- 24:16Speaker 1: they're going to win the game. But Kate Pete, the
- 24:18Speaker 1: X factor is you might have Paul Skeens for five
- 24:22Speaker 1: ish innings against Louis Severino and Team USA might get
- 24:25Speaker 1: to him early. He's not a bad pitcher, but he's
- 24:26Speaker 1: not Paul Skeens. He's nothing close to it.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think that's something that they're going
- 24:31Speaker 2: to have to do is I think if the US
- 24:33Speaker 2: can score early and score a couple of runs off
- 24:36Speaker 2: Luis Severino, puts a little bit more pressure on the
- 24:40Speaker 2: dr to have to try to hit a monster in
- 24:42Speaker 2: Paul Skeans. But I was going to ask Cratsy. From
- 24:45Speaker 2: a catcher's perspective, obviously, it's a lot more difficult to
- 24:49Speaker 2: potentially navigate a lineup that's trying to put the ball
- 24:52Speaker 2: in play versus trying to swing for the fences. But
- 24:55Speaker 2: when you have a guy like Paul Skeans, is it
- 24:57Speaker 2: even you know, beneficial for your offense to just try
- 25:01Speaker 2: to put the ball in play where you just try
- 25:03Speaker 2: to everyone's got to try to clip them like you're
- 25:05Speaker 2: trying to maybe get a walk and hit a two
- 25:09Speaker 2: run homer. I mean, I don't think you're stringing four
- 25:13Speaker 2: or five hits off of them in an inning.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You're not. But you're trying to create situations where you
- 25:19Speaker 3: can hit with two strikes against a guy like Paul Skins.
- 25:21Speaker 3: If you're taking team at bats and people are gonna
- 25:23Speaker 3: be like, what this dude struck out over two hundred guys,
- 25:26Speaker 3: you know all this stuff. I understand that, but they
- 25:29Speaker 3: have to get Paul. Paul Skins is the best pitcher
- 25:32Speaker 3: in that can pitch in the game on Sunday, and
- 25:37Speaker 3: you are trying to get him out of the game.
- 25:39Speaker 3: So team at bats where you're not trying to go
- 25:42Speaker 3: only for damage, or if you are going only for damage,
- 25:46Speaker 3: then you're just waiting for the middle middle pitch. You
- 25:48Speaker 3: can't chase corners, you can't chase and that's where and
- 25:51Speaker 3: that's what Paul Skins I mean, Paul Skeens is one
- 25:53Speaker 3: of the best pictures on the planet right now. People
- 25:54Speaker 3: would say it's either Terce Google, Garrett Corchet or Paul Skeens.
- 25:58Speaker 3: So you have to have a you have to have
- 26:00Speaker 3: an approach. And if Dominican has the same approach for
- 26:04Speaker 3: the entire team, they'll be successful against them. If it's
- 26:08Speaker 3: each man for themselves and they're like, well, I know
- 26:10Speaker 3: we're supposed to be working account here, but I'm getting
- 26:13Speaker 3: one off early here and see see what can see
- 26:16Speaker 3: what can happen. But Scotty had asked about matchups. Scotty
- 26:21Speaker 3: asked about matchups. If you go around, go around the
- 26:23Speaker 3: diamond right now, for me, the only the only three
- 26:29Speaker 3: places that I could think where team USA. If you're
- 26:32Speaker 3: going position by position has the advantage to me, I
- 26:37Speaker 3: think starting on the mound, it's Paul Schemes. I think
- 26:40Speaker 3: behind a dish Will Smith, and I think in right
- 26:44Speaker 3: field Aaron Judge. Other than that, I have a hard
- 26:47Speaker 3: time believing that you can say definitively the US has
- 26:52Speaker 3: a better player at any of the positions than what's
- 26:56Speaker 3: than what the Dominican has.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and we can do a tell a tape. Well,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I guess maybe not. It's the weekend. We're not doing
- 27:03Speaker 1: enough to you tomorrow.
- 27:04Speaker 2: So I would say I would say shortstop too, I'd
- 27:09Speaker 2: say short yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Bobby Witt, Yes.
- 27:12Speaker 2: But when you were talking about matchups too, I mean
- 27:15Speaker 2: I think, I think, and this is no offense to
- 27:17Speaker 2: cal But the guy that I think moves the needle
- 27:21Speaker 2: for the team USA as Will Smith, because much like
- 27:23Speaker 2: you talked about, I think he's just a complete hitter.
- 27:26Speaker 2: He knows how to kind of keep you know, the
- 27:28Speaker 2: line moving.
- 27:29Speaker 3: You watch him play the other day.
- 27:30Speaker 2: He has this ability to you know, be out in front,
- 27:33Speaker 2: hit a double to left field. He could shoot a
- 27:35Speaker 2: ball at the right field, Like, this is the perfect
- 27:36Speaker 2: guy you need the lineup. He's not an all or
- 27:38Speaker 2: nothing type of hitter. He's going to grind out at bats,
- 27:41Speaker 2: He's gonna see a ton of pitches. I love that
- 27:44Speaker 2: he's going to be in the lineup because you know,
- 27:46Speaker 2: he lengthens that lineup so much. He makes it so
- 27:49Speaker 2: much deeper. And it's hard to say because Kyle Rowley
- 27:52Speaker 2: and a lot of our opinions should have been the
- 27:54Speaker 2: m v P. But in a one game sort of
- 27:57Speaker 2: elimination game like this, you need a guy like that
- 28:00Speaker 2: who's just an absolute just nightmare to face. He's gonna
- 28:03Speaker 2: fight and has the ability to do anything he wants
- 28:05Speaker 2: with the bat.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Some people are like, why didn't they save Christopher Sanchez
- 28:12Speaker 1: for this game? I'll he pitched tonight.
- 28:15Speaker 3: That. Yeah, let's not. Let's not get into the whole
- 28:18Speaker 3: pitching like he was on his five days. This is
- 28:21Speaker 3: why Terror Skuball wasn't able to come back for a
- 28:23Speaker 3: potential championship game like they're on their days. We can't
- 28:28Speaker 3: just go all right, well, I'll pitch less and I'll
- 28:31Speaker 3: throw on four days, or I'll just take my six days.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Yet it might bump me to like a four day
- 28:38Speaker 3: rest for opening that. No like that, that's clearly not possible,
- 28:42Speaker 3: and yeah, you know what, it'd be great. Luis Severino
- 28:47Speaker 3: is also a very good pitcher. Christopher Sanchez was top
- 28:50Speaker 3: three cy Young vote get or last last year. But
- 28:55Speaker 3: why didn't they shave Paul Skins for the finals? If
- 28:58Speaker 3: they if they beat Dominican here tomorrow on Sunday.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you can play that game. But it'll be Nolan
- 29:07Speaker 1: McLean if they're able to advance, and he'll go up
- 29:09Speaker 1: against either Japan or against Venezuela. Okay, let's get to
- 29:13Speaker 1: the player of the game now. We're going to go
- 29:14Speaker 1: backtracking just for a moment here, because the US did
- 29:16Speaker 1: have to get past Canada and there was a lot
- 29:19Speaker 1: of negative attention around the team. I will say this too,
- 29:23Speaker 1: and I think this is fair. Expectations are very high
- 29:26Speaker 1: when you put together a roster like this, and I
- 29:28Speaker 1: do think they should be high. We've had what five
- 29:31Speaker 1: World Baseball Classics in the US has won one time.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Let's go guys, you know, and that they've talked for
- 29:37Speaker 1: years about how they feel like they've been able to
- 29:39Speaker 1: recruit the big boys now, which you do see some big,
- 29:42Speaker 1: bigger names than we've ever seen there. They finally got
- 29:44Speaker 1: judge in they've got schemes leading the pack. You've got
- 29:47Speaker 1: them for your semi final against the vaunted all star
- 29:50Speaker 1: looking lineup of Dominican Republic. But I also want to
- 29:53Speaker 1: highlight how they were able to pluck a number one
- 29:55Speaker 1: starter of the league leader in strikeouts on the national
- 29:59Speaker 1: league side this past season. He is our MLB Rivals
- 30:02Speaker 1: Player of the Game. You logan, Web's got it, KP.
- 30:09Speaker 1: It's a guy who always gives you efficiency. But then
- 30:12Speaker 1: now he's a strikeout pitcher and it looks like that'll continue, right.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I mean, this was a low k per nine guy
- 30:19Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden had the biggest strikeout
- 30:21Speaker 1: spike of anybody in baseball last year. And they were
- 30:24Speaker 1: describing one of the many ways that he became that,
- 30:27Speaker 1: but he was like, oh, two strikes, I think I'm
- 30:29Speaker 1: gonna put guys away. Now. He definitely is, you know,
- 30:32Speaker 1: one of those, hey, let me get quick outs kind
- 30:34Speaker 1: of guys. That's how he's been able to rack up
- 30:36Speaker 1: innings and this time in the past year, he's been
- 30:40Speaker 1: able to put guys away, and he's pitching differently with
- 30:43Speaker 1: two strikes. And you saw that tonight too, right.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think it's just the evolution at
- 30:49Speaker 2: logan Web. I think it's just honestly, it's a mentality.
- 30:52Speaker 2: When you have the sinker that he has, why wouldn't
- 30:55Speaker 2: you try to get you know, early contact, week contact
- 30:58Speaker 2: on the ground.
- 30:59Speaker 3: And be efficient.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Not only is logan Web now striking out a lot
- 31:03Speaker 2: of hitters, what he's done over his last four or
- 31:06Speaker 2: five years of his career is he throws close to two,
- 31:09Speaker 2: if not over two hundred innings every year. So he's
- 31:12Speaker 2: kind of figured out the perfect blend of Hey, let's
- 31:15Speaker 2: try to be efficient. But when I do get two strikes,
- 31:18Speaker 2: I can be a little selfish here, and I could
- 31:20Speaker 2: try to go for the strikeout, throw strikes early, get ahead,
- 31:25Speaker 2: and when I get two strikes too, one two, I
- 31:28Speaker 2: can be a little selfish. I can go for some
- 31:30Speaker 2: swing amiss and when when that doesn't happen, if guys
- 31:33Speaker 2: lay off, if I don't get the punch out, then
- 31:35Speaker 2: I just get back in the zone and I do
- 31:36Speaker 2: what I always do, and I induce weak contact. It's
- 31:39Speaker 2: just crazy that more pitchers don't kind kind of view
- 31:43Speaker 2: pitching like that. Is because you can blend the two.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I think there's value in both. I think there's value
- 31:48Speaker 2: in being able to go deep into games and pitch
- 31:51Speaker 2: two hundred plus innings, and there's also value in the strikeout.
- 31:54Speaker 2: But we don't need to be trying to strike out
- 31:55Speaker 2: a hitter from pitch one. Be efficient when you work,
- 31:59Speaker 2: when you work fast, work ahead, and you keep your
- 32:01Speaker 2: defense in bawl, you're gonna still find yourself in you know, one, two,
- 32:05Speaker 2: two counts. Then be a little selfish for a pitcher too,
- 32:08Speaker 2: and try to get a punch and if not, get
- 32:11Speaker 2: back to pitch into contact.
- 32:13Speaker 3: No. Oh yeah. And he doesn't walk guys either, like
- 32:15Speaker 3: he continued to get into deep into games not walking guys.
- 32:19Speaker 3: And he's up to strikeouts this past year, but he's
- 32:23Speaker 3: led the league the last three years in innings pitch.
- 32:25Speaker 3: That didn't stop last year when he added the extra strikeouts.
- 32:30Speaker 3: To me, and in no way does he look or
- 32:32Speaker 3: his mannerisms or anything look like him, but he reminds
- 32:37Speaker 3: me a lot of a prime roy Holiday in the
- 32:41Speaker 3: sense that is he a strikeout pitcher. No, but he
- 32:45Speaker 3: gets strikeouts. He's a guy that wants to be out
- 32:48Speaker 3: there for all nine innings, and he will rack up
- 32:51Speaker 3: his strikeouts because he's out there for seven or eight innings,
- 32:54Speaker 3: he will rack up strikeouts because he gets ahead and
- 32:57Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you're in a two haul and
- 33:02Speaker 3: now that change up's broken out. Now he runs that
- 33:04Speaker 3: slider way off when you're afraid of him backdoor and
- 33:08Speaker 3: that sinker as a right handed hitter. But the thing
- 33:11Speaker 3: that I think he did it, I saw Roy Holliday
- 33:13Speaker 3: try at the end of his career when he was
- 33:15Speaker 3: still good twenty ten, twenty eleven, he tried to elevate
- 33:20Speaker 3: the fastball more and he just wasn't able to do
- 33:23Speaker 3: it because everyone was looking down for that cutter, sinker, curveball.
- 33:27Speaker 3: If he threw, it's that splitter they developed the year
- 33:30Speaker 3: he threw the perfect game and no hitter in the playoffs.
- 33:34Speaker 3: But Logan Webb's now firing that ball up in the zone.
- 33:38Speaker 3: And I think that's where his strikeouts started to come
- 33:41Speaker 3: more this year, because he did that enough where guys
- 33:44Speaker 3: go and KP knows you're looking down, down, down, All
- 33:47Speaker 3: of a sudden, woo, I might not I might need
- 33:51Speaker 3: to swing at that whoop. Now I'm swinging over the
- 33:53Speaker 3: sinker as the next pitch, and it's it's a devastating
- 33:56Speaker 3: combination and he'll be up there this year again in
- 33:59Speaker 3: cy Young vote. So unfortunately he plays in the same
- 34:01Speaker 3: league as Paul Skins.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Yeah, good luck to anyone else trying to rack up
- 34:07Speaker 1: cy Young awards for the next well only a few years.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Then he'll hit free agency and we'll see what happens.
- 34:13Speaker 1: One other note on the pitching front, because some in
- 34:16Speaker 1: the chatter asking about Joe Ryan last I checked. It's
- 34:20Speaker 1: not officially confirmed, because I heard he's got a bullpen
- 34:24Speaker 1: session tomorrow Saturday, and if that goes okay, then he
- 34:28Speaker 1: should be available for the final. So I do think
- 34:31Speaker 1: you're going to see both Nolan McLain and Joe Ryan
- 34:34Speaker 1: for the final. My guess is that they'll start McClain.
- 34:39Speaker 3: That's that's what Ken said today.
- 34:42Speaker 1: That'll start McLain, and the Mets are a little more
- 34:45Speaker 1: tight with their pitching. I mean they made Clay Holmes
- 34:47Speaker 1: go home obviously, but I think it would be Nolan McLain.
- 34:50Speaker 1: You tell me, because I wasn't on today.
- 34:52Speaker 3: No, I mean just we asked the same question because
- 34:54Speaker 3: of Joe Ryan possibly joining. It's not quite official yet,
- 34:58Speaker 3: but if he joins, I said, is he going to
- 35:00Speaker 3: be the starter? And Nolan mclan will be bounced out,
- 35:03Speaker 3: and as far as Ken knows, he's still listed as
- 35:07Speaker 3: the starter. It would be Joe Ryan to help that,
- 35:10Speaker 3: and maybe and maybe McLean's. You know, McLain, I think
- 35:13Speaker 3: went three innings last time, so I mean you don't.
- 35:16Speaker 3: I don't think you want to go seven bullpen guys
- 35:19Speaker 3: if possible to back up a starter, So I think
- 35:21Speaker 3: Joe Ryan gives you that. But also Joe Ryan's only
- 35:23Speaker 3: made one start, so that's where they wouldn't throw him
- 35:27Speaker 3: in to start. It would be more of he'd come,
- 35:29Speaker 3: he'd get his pitches and whatever. That looks like probably
- 35:32Speaker 3: a clean inning if I were to guess, But from
- 35:35Speaker 3: from Ken, it still sounds like Nolan mclan's getting the
- 35:39Speaker 3: start if they make the finals.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Mhm. And we'll wrap this conversation up this way. For
- 35:47Speaker 1: those of you that didn't think we're excited for TMOSA,
- 35:49Speaker 1: hey yeah, they're in the semifinals. We're excited for them.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, but the expectations are high. And
- 35:55Speaker 1: we did start the show pretty hot saying how the
- 35:58Speaker 1: US keeps poking ended it lately, saying they're better at
- 36:01Speaker 1: them in sports right now, they beat them in women's
- 36:05Speaker 1: acumen's hockey and now in baseball. I mean it's that
- 36:08Speaker 1: kind of year where they're just lining up against Canada
- 36:10Speaker 1: and they're beating them. Now, this one I think was
- 36:13Speaker 1: drawn up in their favor a little bit, but good
- 36:16Speaker 1: for them.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Do you think do you think it was also insult
- 36:21Speaker 2: after that seventh inning when the producer just fired on
- 36:24Speaker 2: Freebird after David Bettnar escapes that jam? Was that also
- 36:28Speaker 2: just like you didn't hear it? Yeah, as soon as
- 36:31Speaker 2: they got out the inning, it was like immediately queued up.
- 36:33Speaker 2: It was like the guitar solo from Freebird. It was like, man,
- 36:37Speaker 2: they're just trying to kick Canada where they're down right now.
- 36:40Speaker 2: That was their obviously best opportunity to try to tie
- 36:42Speaker 2: the game. There, they're captain up the middle of their order,
- 36:46Speaker 2: up you know, second and third, no outs and and
- 36:48Speaker 2: Bennard escapes not giving up any runs straight into Freebird
- 36:53Speaker 2: and then commercial break.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Producer producer gold. Anytime directors, producers could do something like that,
- 37:00Speaker 3: that's gold and I think maybe are a little bit
- 37:03Speaker 3: of a subdued celebration is exactly why people are like, wow,
- 37:09Speaker 3: this is a lose lose situation. If you're playing Canada,
- 37:12Speaker 3: like you beat them, you're supposed to, you lose to them.
- 37:16Speaker 3: What are they doing? And so I think it just
- 37:19Speaker 3: is or it also could be the fact that these
- 37:23Speaker 3: guys are looming. These guys, this team right here, they're looming,
- 37:29Speaker 3: And I think it's like, do you celebrate the Canadian
- 37:31Speaker 3: win because you celebrated the Mexico win and you got
- 37:35Speaker 3: smacked in the mouth by Italy. Now do you celebrate
- 37:39Speaker 3: this win? Yes? Absolutely, high fives. Here we go onto
- 37:43Speaker 3: the dr Yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I don't think they're having a three hour grab a beer,
- 37:47Speaker 1: tell a story session in the clubhouse right now. They're like, okay, boys,
- 37:51Speaker 1: let's get to work. I know, no game tomorrow. I mean,
- 37:54Speaker 1: go live your life. But I think they're they're in
- 37:56Speaker 1: a little more of like a hey, we're about to
- 37:59Speaker 1: enter it a battle. This is the best lineup they
- 38:02Speaker 1: will face. Japan's really good. Venezuela has got good talent.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Theminican team here is special right now, so we'll see
