- 1:09Coaching in third, Frank Luceri over at the plate is Ralph Mout.
- 1:18Cleveland's municipal stadium right off the shores of Lake Erie.
- 1:22And the sky doesn't look too good. The wind is blowing out towards right field.
- 1:28Lights are on here at the stadium. Here's the first pitch of the ball game and it's over for a call strike.
- 1:35Perry is a big boy. 6 feet 4 inches tall and 185 pounds.
- 1:42A North Carolina boy living in Jamesville, North Carolina. Here's the wind up.
- 1:47The kick. Best ball right down the middle. Strike two. Nothing in two.
- 1:51Joe Gordon and his Indians realized that this is a must series for them.
- 1:58For the Yankees to sweep the series, they'll be in rough shape. The two strike pitch. Low inside ball one.
- 2:07On deck is extra low pitch.
- 2:10And here's the pitch. It's in the ground. The second base and sample to his left up with it.
- 2:17Goes to Vic Power in time for the outs.
- 2:22And boys, it's a pleasure watching that Vic Power around first base. He really dances.
- 2:28One way here is Hexler Low Pair.
- 2:30Hector batting 304 has two doubles, three triples, three homers and 11 runs batted in.
- 2:36Hector has 11 hits and has led 43 times at back.
- 2:40Hexler has 11 hits and has led 43 times at back.
- 2:46Hexler has 11 hits and has led 43 times at back.
- 2:50Hexler has 11 hits and has led 43 times at back.
- 2:55And has led 43 times at back.
- 3:01Right hand hitter and a severe crouch.
- 3:03Pair's pitch is over strike one call. On deck is Mickey Metles.
- 3:08Cleveland has Frank Conner and left pier, Soltan Seller and Keenan Wright.
- 3:12Phillip Sells, Semple and Power on the infield. Romano Casse and Jim Pair out on the mound.
- 3:19The one strike pitch is a curved low outside ball 111.
- 3:35Last year Pairy 112 and lost 10.
- 3:37The one one pitch is a fastball just below the knees ball two, two and one.
- 4:01Here's the two one delivery.
- 4:03It's a check swing on the slow outside ball three, three and one.
- 4:07Hope that's a good way to go after the breaking pitch.
- 4:10On this Western trip the Yankees have won eight loss two and five one.
- 4:14And the Yankees have won six of the last seven and fifteen and are out of their last fifteen.
- 4:20Yankees and Cleveland are three and three on the season.
- 4:24Three one pitch, low ball four and there's the first base runner of the ball game.
- 4:32Hexalo Pair draws the base on balls and that'll bring up Mickey Metles.
- 4:38Mickey batting 286 that average is rising slowly but surely.
- 4:43Seven doubles, four triples, sixteen, almost 34 runs valid in.
- 4:48On deck Roger Marist.
- 4:54Hexalo Pair leads off first.
- 4:56Distraction to pick the net.
- 4:58There's a swing and a miss strike one.
- 5:09Mickey went after that high fast one, didn't get it.
- 5:19Well if you get a ball up in the air it's really going to travel.
- 5:23Fortunately the wind is not blowing down here but above the stadium it's blowing.
- 5:28Fast ball in there, strike two calls.
- 5:30Nothing in two on Mickey.
- 5:38Good power holding first base against low pitch.
- 5:41Now the stretch. Two strikes with high ball, one ball two strikes.
- 5:56Hurry trying to keep that ball up on Mickey.
- 6:00Early in the year Matt will have trouble hitting the high fast ball because of a dead knee.
- 6:05And though it's still giving him trouble he's been laying off that pitch.
- 6:11One ball two strikes one out.
- 6:13No score on the top of the first inning.
- 6:15There's a look over at Lopez leading off first.
- 6:18The pitch is if high in the air a foul ball, this power moving over the wind is taking it.
- 6:24Power moving back and he can't get it, it goes back into the stands and you should have seen the wind get a hold of that ball.
- 6:31Once the base ball gets above the roof of the municipal stadium it takes off like a ping pong ball being blown around by the wind.
- 6:41It is blowing hard.
- 6:45It's going to make fly balls a little rough, the high flies anyway.
- 6:48One ball two strikes on Mickey.
- 7:05Hurry, check the sign from the motto.
- 7:08That's on the mound.
- 7:10His pitch is if high in the air, there's a high pop fly.
- 7:14Let's see how the wind takes this one.
- 7:16There's plenty of piercoles coming in from center field and he has to dive back to make the catch.
- 7:22And we told you about that wind.
- 7:25Held and samples started after they gave up.
- 7:28Piercoles came in from center, suddenly had a fierce sharply to his left and a long back about six feet to make the catch.
- 7:36Oh you got to stay with those high flies.
- 7:38Here's Roger Maris.
- 7:41Maris batting 335.
- 7:44He's been double, three triples, 20 home runs and 52 runs batted in.
- 7:49When Roger was traded to New York he made the prediction that he'd hit at least 20 home runs and he's got them already.
- 7:58Two outs, no score.
- 8:00Here's a stretch to pitch to Maris.
- 8:02He's going to strike one call.
- 8:25He's getting hit again by 3rd. Best for the tie outside, one on one.
- 8:34The Indians were kind of hoping for 50,000 fans or more tonight but unless it's a real slow crowd getting here they're not going to get near that total.
- 8:46It's a nice crowd but this is up in the air to left field, Trancona moving over under it now and makes the catch for the 3rd out.
- 8:5940 Yankees in the top of the first inning, no run, no hits, no Indian errors, one man left.
- 9:05The score at the end of one half inning of play.
- 9:08The Yankees, nothing and the Indians coming to bat.
- 9:12You know sometimes the way your car performs can be downright embarrassing especially if it's been stalling frequently or idling rough or possibly doesn't have the get up and go you're accustomed to.
- 9:22When you trouble could be a dirty carburetor, a condition that can affect any car old or new.
- 9:29Here's how.
- 9:30A golf fumes in my new particles of dirt can get by your air cleaner and build up deposits inside along the lower carburetor wall.
- 9:38Even a small amount of these deposits can cause the throttle plate to see the wrong mixture of air and gasoline to your engine and you thus get rough performance and actual gasoline weight.
- 9:48But a dirty carburetor is one embarrassment you can forget about if you use new Atlantic Imperial gasoline.
- 9:54To see Atlantic Imperial actually goes towards cleaning out the deposits in your carburetor as you drive.
- 10:00What's more it keeps your carburetor clean and puts more pleasure back into driving.
- 10:05So to end stalling rough idling and gasoline waste due to a dirty carburetor use Atlantic Imperial.
- 10:12The gasoline that cleans your carburetor and keeps it clean.
- 10:16The oil is clean.
- 10:31They've thrown pierced oil out of the game or not.
- 10:34Here comes Joe Gordon in red press.
- 10:37Pierced oil was standing to the side of all place playing the bats and Jim quotes,
- 10:42let loose with a pitch that got away from the catcher and then suddenly threw both bats out towards third base.
- 10:51Ed Hurley now and Hank Shore are talking with Joe Gordon and Jimmy Pearsaw.
- 10:59Hurley got the situation very well under control.
- 11:05Pearsaw really got excited as everybody knows Jimmy is an excitable ball player and an exciting player to watch.
- 11:11And he plays the game to the hills.
- 11:14He gets excited maybe a little quicker than other ball players.
- 11:21Joe Gordon with his hand on Pearsaw's shoulder listening to Ed Hurley.
- 11:28I don't know whether Pearsaw is out of the game or not.
- 11:34But Jimmy is looking towards the dugout.
- 11:37He's getting his bats and it looks like he's still in the game.
- 11:42He's going to the Ryzenbags.
- 11:46We've got action right here at the beginning of the ball game and Pearsaw isn't even been to bats.
- 11:55There are some pitches that don't like the next fitter to be standing near home playing watching them warm up so there's no rule against it.
- 12:03And I'm sure Coach didn't throw it Pearsaw but the pitch went by Howard, rolled back to the wall and kicked back.
- 12:11So it's home played and Pearsaw got a little excited and just threw both his bats to the left of the pitches.
- 12:17Now they roll all the way to third base.
- 12:19Clearly, Boyer was the most surprised ball player in the park when he saw the bats come sailing right at his feet.
- 12:27Pearsaw isn't even the lead off man.
- 12:30Johnny Semple, who is the lead off man, is in the bat as Vox now.
- 12:34Well, we might have a little excitement here at Municipal Stadium before this ball game is over.
- 12:39Semple's batting 264 with six doubles, one homer and nine runs batted in.
- 12:45Jim Coates, first pitch to Semple, is a strike on the outside corner.
- 12:50Coates is one eight and lost none and his one defeat in his big league career came at the hands of the Indians.
- 12:57He is one and one, lifetime record against Cleveland, 14-1 lifetime record in the big league.
- 13:04The curve is a strike on the outside corner and Johnny Semple turns around and starts shaking his head
- 13:10and he is moaning that the pitch was low and he's arguing with Bob Stewart.
- 13:15We're having fireworks before the ball game is over here.
- 13:19And they're going to have another one of those fireworks that plays after the game and here comes Jojo White.
- 13:25Down from third base is trying to calm Johnny Semple.
- 13:30Bob Stewart, we've got a dandy going tonight.
- 13:33Both clubs realizing that this is a crucial series.
- 13:39Casey Stengel standing on the steps of the Yankee dugout.
- 13:44All right, nothing into the count on Semple. Here's the wind-up.
- 13:48Best ball line, the base hit the right center field.
- 13:51Moving over there, Semple around first and all done.
- 13:59Well, here comes Jimmy Perestal.
- 14:11Well, I tell you, this Perestal can get a crowd up and on.
- 14:17He stands close to the plate. Semple got mad at a strike ball by the umpire and probably got a base hit.
- 14:25And Perestal's mad already. Jimmy's hitting 303. Here's the stretch.
- 14:29The pitch, curve, high inside ball one. Look at Perestal's stare at Big Jim Coast.
- 14:37No score, we're in the bottom of the first inning. Jim Coast has won 12 straight games over two years span.
- 14:44Four and 59 in eighth this season.
- 14:50And Hadley holding first base against Johnny Semple.
- 14:55The stretch by Coast.
- 14:57Pitch to Perestal is hit in the air to a short right center field. Marist coming in and makes the catch.
- 15:04And it's won away. Perestal didn't hit that ball hard, but the wind took it out.
- 15:11That'll bring up Harvey Keen, who has brought his average over the 300 mark.
- 15:17He's at 308. 9 doubles, 3 homers, 25 runs batted in.
- 15:24Harvey had 3 for 3 in yesterday's ball game against the center.
- 15:30And he is the leading Indian hitter as of the moment.
- 15:36The back team came out with a statement in the paper today saying he's after the league batting title again.
- 15:42So he's serious. All right, one away, no score. Temper leaves off first.
- 15:46The stretch. Pitch to Kroon is hit on the ground to Boyer up on it.
- 15:50Over to Richardson for one. Back to first. Double play.
- 15:55As Jim Coast came in with a change up, curve ball and had Harvey Keen off balance.
- 16:00Around the horn from third to second or first. Yankees come up with their 64th double play of the year.
- 16:07And four Cleveland in the bottom of the first no runs, one hit. No Yankee errors, nobody left.
- 16:14The score at the end of one full inning. The Yankees, nothing. And the Indians, nothing.
- 16:19Yankees play here again tomorrow afternoon and a big double header on Sunday.
- 16:25And then they meet the Brooklyn Los Angeles Dodgers. They can't eat from saying Brooklyn.
- 16:31The Los Angeles Dodgers Monday night in a charity benefit stand-lot game at Yankee Stadium.
- 16:37Coming up to bat for the Yankees here on the top of the second is Kent Hadley.
- 16:42Hadley's batting 269, has three homers and seven runs batted in.
- 16:49Got two of those homers in one game over at Detroit, filling in for the injured Bill Scower.
- 16:56The Moose was just starting to pound that ball again when he sprained his wrist, batting 304.
- 17:01Chris Hitsahadley is low inside ball one.
- 17:06On deck Elston Holler.
- 17:22Wind up by Perry and the pitch is on the inside corner, strike one, one, one.
- 17:38Here's the wind up by the big right hander. His pitch is fouled down the snow.
- 17:43It's fair ball, power up with a throw to Perry covering inside for the out.
- 17:50Hadley swung, he was back on his heels and didn't start right away.
- 17:53It appeared to be a fouled ball, but Vick Power had a back up at first base to make the play
- 17:58and he really fired the Perry covering for the out.
- 18:01One away, here's Elston Hard.
- 18:05Power batting 258.
- 18:10Seven doubles, three triples, five homers and 26 runs batted in.
- 18:27Jim Perry swings into the wind up. His first pitch to Howard is a curve low outside ball one.
- 18:34Have the commissioners right hand man. It's a guest tonight. Thanks, local.
- 18:40What brings you to Cleveland tonight?
- 18:43For the all star vote.
- 18:46The one nothing pitch is a little bit outside ball two, two and nothing.
- 19:01On deck leader sports. Outfield deep straight away on Howard.
- 19:06Here's a two nothing pitch. The strike on the outside corner Howard had started to swing and check this swing,
- 19:12but the pitch must have nicked the corner. Bob Stewart held up that big right hand.
- 19:17Two and one on Elie.
- 19:23Wind blowing out hard towards right field.
- 19:26Fastball low outside ball three, three and one.
- 19:35One out, nobody on here in the top of the sixth.
- 19:43Three one pitch is hit on the ground towards second base.
- 19:46Johnny Temple coming in fast up with a flip to Howard. Howard is retired.
- 19:55That big power can really move around at first base.
- 19:59Here's Cleetus Boyle batting 250, six doubles, two homers, 11 runs batted in.
- 20:09Two out here in the top of the second inning.
- 20:13A big series for both teams, the Indians and the Yankees.
- 20:21Leaving just two games behind New York.
- 20:27Terry swings into the wind up. The pitch to Boyle is on the inside corner strike one call.
- 20:35Boyle looks back at Bob Stewart.
- 20:44Here's the one strike delivery. Sidearm curve over the outside corner strike two.
- 20:50The player has started a swing at that check to swing but the ball has bought of a plate on Deck Bobby Richardson.
- 21:03Ready now for the two strike delivery.
- 21:06He started a swing when almost all the way around and held up. The pitch was high and inside.
- 21:15One ball one. Romano the catcher thought he had gone far enough to round. I have a call of strikes.
- 21:29One ball two strike pitch. Foul back against the screen.
- 21:36Outholds at one ball two strikes.
- 21:49Terry into the wind up. Curve ball is high ball two. Terry and Romano have started to walk off the field.
- 21:58Now waiting to hear the last word from the umpire before you move. Two balls two strikes two outs nobody on top of the second no score.
- 22:09The pitch is strike three call. That one had the outside corner.
- 22:14Terry's first strike out and for the Yankees they get down one two three on the top of the second nothing across.
- 22:20The score at the end of an inning and a half the Yankees nothing and the Indians nothing.
- 22:25Now at a traffic light you can often tell if your car isn't performing up to par.
- 22:29Maybe it stalls frequently or idles rough or possibly doesn't have any pick up when the light changes.
- 22:34Now this could mean a dirty carburetor something that can happen to any car old or new.
- 22:40You see exhaust fumes and other air contaminants get by your air cleaner and build up as deposits inside the carburetor of your car.
- 22:47And these troublesome deposits can cause an improper mixture of air and gasoline.
- 22:52The result is rough performance and actual gasoline waste.
- 22:56But thanks to new Atlantic Imperial gasoline you now can keep your carburetor clean without even erasing the hood.
- 23:02Atlantic Imperial cleans your carburetor as you drive doing a complete job in just a few thousand miles.
- 23:10So to end stalling rough idling and gasoline waste due to a dirty carburetor use Atlantic Imperial.
- 23:16It's the gasoline that cleans your carburetor and keeps it clean.
- 23:30Hitting in the cleanup spot for Cleveland here on the bottom of the second is Cedro Francona.
- 23:38Francona has zipped below 300 batting 291. Left hand header has 10 doubles. Two triples, two homers and 29 runs batted in.
- 23:54No score on the bottom of the second inning.
- 23:58Jim Colts, end of the windup, has pitched to Francona, is high ball one.
- 24:10Jojo White coaching at third and Red Crest over at first for the Indians.
- 24:18One nothing pitch, outside ball two, two nothing.
- 24:30Francona 6 feet tall, 185 pounds.
- 24:34And somebody is getting on the plate on fire Bob Stewart from the bench.
- 24:40The Cleveland bench that is and time is called while he looks in and tells him to behave or to put out.
- 24:52Two balls, no strikes on Francona. The windup, the pitch is high ball three, three nothing.
- 25:10On deck is Vic Pao. Three nothing pitch, strike ball, fast ball about Velhoy, three and one.
- 25:30Colts with a big slow easy windup, kicks, fast ball, his strike two call.
- 25:40He's getting off here in the bottom of the second of his ball or ball game. Francona digging into the plate.
- 26:02Here it is, and it's low for ball four. He tried to curve him on a three two pitch and miss low inside.
- 26:12First walk given up by Colts and here's Vic Pao.
- 26:16Pao has been in his club yesterday, the first time up he got his first hit and 26 times at best.
- 26:24He has dropped a 291, ten doubles, two trebles, two homers and 29 runs battered in.
- 26:42He's got a hit and run man, and Francona leads off first to stretch my coach.
- 26:57Go to first base and Francona is back.
- 27:19Here's a stretch, pitch to power, curve ball hit, high in the air to short left field.
- 27:24Low pass didn't see it right away, Krubeck moving back and makes the catch.
- 27:28Hex to Low pass lost that ball in left field.
- 27:31Remember it's still quite light here at Cleveland's municipal stadium, though the lights are on.
- 27:36This is the time of the night when high fly balls are a little tough to see off the bat.
- 27:40But Krubeck stayed with it and made the catch backing up. One away here's Johnny Romano.
- 27:59Romano batting 274, two doubles, a trebles, six homers and 23 runs battered in.
- 28:09Francona still at first, here's a stretch, pitch to Romano, curve ball over, strike one call.
- 28:16Nothing nothing here in the bottom of the second with one out.
- 28:36Here's a stretch by coach, checker to runner at first.
- 28:39Fastball is fouled back on the screen, nothing in two.
- 29:05Nothing in two to count, Hadley holding first against Francona, the pitch high inside ball one.
- 29:27On deck is what he held.
- 29:46Here's a stretch by coach, pitch is fouled out of play and it almost got low effort.
- 29:56Right between Lewette, Flatten, Jim Ogle, two of the newspaper men I travel with the Yankees.
- 30:06They didn't try to get it, they just tried to get out of the way.
- 30:12One ball, two strikes and one out.
- 30:22Again post-set, pitch, curve ball, flung in a miss strike three.
- 30:28Big overhand curve ball by Jim, he scores this first strike out of the ball game and here's what he held.
- 30:37Woody batting just 242, leaves the Indians in RBI, he has 37, also has seven doubles, one triple and 12 home runs.
- 30:49Jimmy Pearce over 35 on the I second on the team.
- 30:54Francona will open the ending with a walk, is still at first base with school away, no score at the bottom of the second.
- 31:01Coach's pitch is high inside ball one.
- 31:13Bobber Phillips on deck.
- 31:22Here's the stretch.
- 31:25Low curve is lying, off-boy is going to left field at the base hit.
- 31:29Francona trying for third, Lopez is still in there but not in time.
- 31:35Nido Francona with heads up base running, went from first to third on a single short left field as Woody held, wrapped a hotline drive down to third,
- 31:44boy I got his glove on, it slowed it down but couldn't hold onto it, it goes to the base hit.
- 31:51The second hit off-coach and the Indians have run as a first and third with two out in the battle, Bobber Phillips.
- 31:58Phillips batting 218, six doubles, two home runs, 12 runs, batted in.
- 32:03No score here in the bottom of the second.
- 32:16Here's the score, had a kind of dive to his left to get a glove on that ball.
- 32:23Alright here's the stretch.
- 32:25Pitch to Phillips, fouled back on the screen strike one, Bobber went after a high curve ball.
- 32:34Time is called by Elstin Howard as he goes out to the mound.
- 32:40Francona never stopped running as he rounded second and throw by Lopez which was a good throw, just missed getting this slide in Tito.
- 32:49Kubeck gave a good fake as though to cut off the ball and that held Woody held at first base.
- 32:55El was starting to go and he saw Kubeck reach for it and to hustle back to first and Tony let the ball go by him.
- 33:01One strike on Phillips, two out.
- 33:04One ball high inside, ball one, one on one.
- 33:29Check the sign from Howard, here's the stretch.
- 33:34Nice play, throws the first in, time to get Phillips.
- 33:38Boy there was a pretty play by Cleetus Boyer and for Cleveland in the bottom of the second, no runs, one base hit.
- 33:47No Yankee errors, two men left the score at the end of two full innings.
- 33:51The Yankee is nothing, the Indians nothing and we pause for station identification.
- 33:551460 on the radio dial, WOKO, Albany, New York.
- 33:59Bobby Richardson stepping into the batter's box.
- 34:03Bobby batting 229, six doubles, one homer and ten runs batted in.
- 34:07Perry's pitches a side on the line to left field, Francona digging to his right and makes the catch of a hard headline drive.
- 34:15Richardson got good wood on that side on curveball but Francona got a good jump with the crack of the bat, made a running catch in left field.
- 34:23One away, brings up Jim Coates, who is suddenly blossomed out as a hitting pitcher.
- 34:319 to 27, two doubles, three runs batted in, batting 333.
- 34:35Pitch to Coates is swung and a missed strike one, it was an overhand curveball, low on outside.
- 34:42Coates is really taking a good cut at the ball.
- 34:46Side on curve, hit right back to the pitcher, one hop up with a throw to Vic Power for the out.
- 34:51Vic hasn't touched first yet, Jim Coates is standing halfway there and then Power steps on a bag.
- 34:59Vic Power wanted Jim Coates to run, wanted him to exert himself a little bit, Coates had stopped halfway down the line.
- 35:07Power caught the ball and stood alongside a first base, waiting for Coates to make his move.
- 35:12Coates started towards first and Vic finally stepped on the bag.
- 35:18Cut the fire a little bit to the old Power, here's Tony Kubeck who bounced out to second base his first time at bat.
- 35:28Two-hour nobody on the pitch to Kubeck, it's over strike one-claw.
- 35:43The one strike delivery is hit deep to right field, that ball's way back there and Harvey Keane watches it go over the fence for homerun.
- 36:02That not only is the first base hit off Jim Perry but the first run of the ball game as Kubeck hit a high fastball up in that wind.
- 36:09And it just carried the ball right on over the right field fence.
- 36:14The Yankees lead one and nothing.
- 36:16Corp Kubeck is sixth home of the year and his 27th run batted in.
- 36:22The Yankees lead one and nothing.
- 36:31That gives Kubeck as many home runs as he had all last year, six home runs.
- 36:39And this is his first home against Cleveland pitching.
- 36:44Heck the Lopez up, takes a curve high and inside.
- 36:50Actually I missed the pitch while I was talking about Kubeck's homer, it's two and nothing on Lopez.
- 36:55Three nothing pitch, curve inside ball three.
- 37:03Not unusual that a home run shakes up a pitcher.
- 37:08There's something to it.
- 37:13Three nothing pitch.
- 37:15And this is the second time Lopez walks in the ball game, the only two walks given up by Perry and his Mickey Matles who fly to Short Centerfield in the first inning.
- 37:34Pick power holding Lopez on.
- 37:36Two out, the Yankees lead one nothing here in the top of the fair.
- 37:41The games between the Indian and Yankees have been very close games.
- 37:48Here's a stretch.
- 37:49Pitch for Mickey is high ball one on Deck Roger Mariff.
- 37:57Perry stretches, Lopez leads the Oxford.
- 38:02Pitch is fouled back in the upper deck out of play, one on one.
- 38:14Bobby Keene deep in right, Pierceville deep in center and Francona deep in left center.
- 38:20One one pitch is high outside ball two, two and one on Mickey.
- 38:27Both Matles and Mariff have had a tremendous month of June.
- 38:33Mickey has a three sixty four average and Mariff a three fifty two average and Matles did ten homers in the month of June and Mariff nine.
- 38:43Two and one to count.
- 38:45The pitch to Matles swung it and this strike two, he went after that high fast ball again, had a good cut but got underneath the pitch.
- 38:56Two balls, two strikes, two outs.
- 38:58The two two delivery is high ball three and it's a full count on Mickey.
- 39:02Three and two with two out Lopez will go with the pitch.
- 39:09Alright here's a stretch by Perry.
- 39:12There goes Lopez, the pitch is high ball four and Matles walks.
- 39:20Four Matles, his fifty six base on balls of the year and here's Roger Mariff who applied to left field in the first inning.
- 39:31That's the third walk given up by Jim Perry.
- 39:35Runners now at first and second with two outs.
- 39:38The Yankees lead one nothing, we're on the top of the third.
- 39:42Alright Perry's strike. Pitch to Mariff is fouled back in the upper deck strike one.
- 39:54Ken Hadley swinging the big weighted bat on deck.
- 40:05Matles leading off first, Lopez off second.
- 40:08Here's the stretch.
- 40:11The pitch is high outside ball one one and one.
- 40:28One ball, one strike, two outs.
- 40:34Perry looks back at Lopez.
- 40:36Pitch is outside ball two, two and one. Romano holding the ball in the glove over the outside corner.
- 40:45Catches full left ball pretty well.
- 40:48Move it quickly hoping to pull the umpire but they're hard to pull.
- 41:01All this action with two outs. First two men Richardson and coach one outs.
- 41:07Kubeck Homed, low-present Matle walks. Two one count on Roger Mariff.
- 41:17Pitch, curve swung it and missed strike two that was a bad high curve ball one of the few we've seen Mariff go after.
- 41:27One two to count, two out and two on.
- 41:43Here's the stretch by Perry.
- 41:47Pitch outside ball three and again Romano holds the glove there.
- 41:51Full count and we have now had three full counts in a row. Lopez, Matle and now Mariff.
- 42:02Three and two on Mariff, two outs. Lopez is second, Matle at first ready to run.
- 42:09There they go. The pitch is high outside gets away from Romano but not too far.
- 42:14And three walks in a row by Jim Perry as the base is loaded with two out and a batter Kent Hadley who bounced out to first base in the second inning.
- 42:25Alright Perry pitching with his full wind up. Here's the wind up. The pitch is a curve popped in the air to the left side.
- 42:30Bob Phillips is under it in fair territory and makes the catch for the third out.
- 42:36Kent Hadley went after the first pitch after Perry had walked three men in a row and popped up the third base for the Yankees in the top of the third one run on one hit.
- 42:46Two back homers, no Cleveland errors and three men left on base to score at the end of two and a half inning.
- 42:52The Yankees won and the Indians nothing.
- 42:55Perry batting 281 is nine for 32. One double, two runs batted in.
- 43:01Perry is a switch hitter and he's batting left handed against Jim Coast.
- 43:11Jim Perry leading off here in the bottom of the third inning on deck at the top of the Cleveland batting order Johnny Tempo.
- 43:19Fish hit to left field, Hexalopez moving back under it and makes the catch and every time a ball is hit out to left field in the early stage of the game,
- 43:32Tony Kubek waves his arms and tries to signal and helps Hexalopez because as we told you in the early innings of a night game at this time of the year,
- 43:41it's hard to pick up the ball off the bat.
- 43:43Here's Johnny Tempo who got so mad at a cold strike in the first inning that he promptly singled on the next pitch to right center field.
- 43:50Boy, he was hard to play down by a box to it and the guy on deck next, Jimmy Pearce all almost started a mild riot when he threw his bat out towards pitch of Jim Coast.
- 44:00I'll tell you about that when Pearce all gets up to the plate. Here's the pitch to Tempo, exchange of curve, pop to right field,
- 44:06Roger Maris moving under it and making the catch. That's true way and here's Jimmy Pearce all who's flying to right in the first inning.
- 44:15Pearce all was standing alongside of home plate watching Coast warm up with Johnny Tempo standing to the left of home plate and suddenly Coast's pitch got away from Howard and sailed a little close to Pearce all, Pearce all,
- 44:29figuring that Coast was throwing at him, just wound up and threw both his bat towards the pitch of box. They landed up out of third base and the umpires and Joe Gordon had to come in and restrain Jimmy Pearce all.
- 44:42Alright, two out and nobody on. The pitch to Pearce all. Pearce will hit high in the air to right center field. Maris moving back, back and makes the catch.
- 44:54And so for Cleveland in the bottom of the third, they're retired, one, two, three, nothing across the score at the end of three, Paul Innings.
- 45:04The Yankees won and the Indians nothing. And right now let's pause for station identification.
- 45:121460 on the radio dial, quality modern radio, WOKO, Albany, New York, five minutes before nine.
- 45:20Here is Elston Howard leading off. The Yankees in the top of the fourth inning. Howard bounced out to second base his first time at bat.
- 45:28Winder by the big right hander. Fast forward line right through the middle, boy. That almost took Perry's cap off out to center field.
- 45:34A solid single by Elston Howard right through the middle.
- 45:40And that's only the second base hit off, Perry. Both teams now with two base hits. The Yankees leading one, nothing.
- 45:47Brings up Cletus Boyle who was called out on strikes in the second inning.
- 45:54Elston Howard, by the way, is the leading hitter against Cleveland pitching this year. That gives him nine for 20.
- 46:05Howard leading off first. Pitch is hit on the ground right back to the pitch. He throws the hell for one. Back to first, double play.
- 46:19For the Indians, they're a 60 second double play of the year. And that was his prettiest time play you'd want to see.
- 46:25As the ball was hit back to the pitcher, he led Woody Held to the bag, threw the ball over the bag with Held coming over from short.
- 46:31Woody caught it and led Vic Power coming to first base. And everything was done perfectly that time.
- 46:39Executed very well. A double play. Two out here's Bobby Richardson. Bobby's blind to left field in the third inning.
- 46:45Two out, nobody on.
- 46:49The curve is outside, ball one. One nothing pitches. Lines are right field at base hit.
- 47:05Coming up with a ball Harvey Keene and Richardson. Lines are single or right field.
- 47:11So all three men who are hitting Cleveland pitching the best this year have all come up with base hits.
- 47:19Bobby Richardson who came into the game, 6 for 20 with a 300 average against Cleveland pitching.
- 47:23Tony Kubeck who came in with an 8 for 25 average for 320 pitching.
- 47:27And Elston Howard who had 8 for 18 batting 4-44 have the three base hits against Paris.
- 47:35Here's Jim Koch who hit back to the box in the third inning.
- 47:43Two out. Yankees did all their damage in the third inning with two out. The homer by Kubeck and three walks.
- 47:51Coach hit one deep to the right center field, way back there and Piso makes a one-heel catch. He dropped it.
- 47:59He got to the ball and then dropped it. Richardson scores. Jimmy Piso was playing shallow.
- 48:07It's a base hit, a long double, the right center field by Jim Koch. Piso took off on a gallop.
- 48:15Caught up to the ball and got his glove on it but brushed against the fence and then dropped the ball and his hat.
- 48:21It rolled away from him and the Yankees lead two to nothing. Again with two out.
- 48:27The Yankees have gotten to Jim Peres. As Jim Koch comes up with his third double of the year and his fourth run battered in and he is really pounding that ball.
- 48:41You don't usually see Piso drop a ball when he gets his glove on it.
- 48:45One of the catch he made in the Yankee stadium last time Indians were in town.
- 48:49All right, here's Kubeck who bounced the second in home at the pitch for Tony.
- 48:53The serve low ball one. The Yankees two, the Indians nothing in the top of the fourth.
- 49:00The stretch and the pitch has occurred. Pop high to right field down the line. That one could go and it's going in the stands.
- 49:16A home run for Kubeck. Holy cow. That's Kubeck.
- 49:25Caught all of a low inside serve ball and the Yankees now leads four to nothing and all the damage your carry has come after two were out.
- 49:36As Kubeck gets his second home run of the game, his seventh of the year and with three RBI's tonight that gets him 29 runs battered in on the year.
- 49:48Brings up like the Lopez who's been up twice and walks twice.
- 49:51First is hit high in the air to straight away center field. Way back there. Way back.
- 49:55Piso going back and makes the catch just in front of the center field fence.
- 50:04The ball to win took that one almost over the fence for the Yankees.
- 50:09In the top of the fourth three runs on four base hits. No Indian errors and nobody left the score at the end of three and a half.
- 50:17The Yankees four Cleveland nothing.
- 50:20Avi Keene who hit into a double play in the first inning leading off here in the bottom of the fourth for the Indians.
- 50:26The Yankees four Cleveland nothing.
- 50:30The Yankees continue to get runs for Jim Koch. They had scored 84 runs in the ten previous games in which Koch had started.
- 50:37They've already got four so that gives them 88.
- 50:4088 runs and 11 starts. Boy that's a lot of runs.
- 50:47Alright here's the first pitch to Keene.
- 50:49It's hit to deep right center. Marist moving back and Mattle over and Marist makes the catch.
- 50:57Keene got good wood on that ball. Didn't quite get it high enough.
- 51:00One away here's Tito Francona. Francona walked in the second inning.
- 51:25Here's the first pitch to Tito.
- 51:27Bird ball lying through the middle of base hit to center fair.
- 51:34Mattle bluffs the throw to first base as Francona gets the third base hit off Jim Koch.
- 51:41And it brings up Vic Power who pops to the shortstop in the second inning.
- 51:49Here's the Yankees lead here on the top of the fourth. Hadley holding first against Francona.
- 52:01Coach sets pitches. Hopped in the air straight away center fair.
- 52:05Mickey Mattle hardly has to move under it and makes the catch.
- 52:11And it's two-way. The battered Johnny Romano who struck out in the second inning.
- 52:31Pitch to Romano high inside ball one. Johnny has six homers this year and 23 runs about it.
- 52:41The one nothing pitch. High inside ball two two enough.
- 52:51Two balls no strike. Here's the stretch by the big right hander.
- 52:57He is low outside ball three. Three nothing.
- 53:08Three balls no strike throughout.
- 53:11The curve is high inside and it's ball four.
- 53:16That brings up Woody Held.
- 53:25The single of left field in the second inning.
- 53:31Leads the Indians in homers with 12 and RBI's with 37.
- 53:37Runners lead off first and second. Pitch to Held.
- 53:41Power look out he threw the bat and the ball came shooting back in the upper deck.
- 53:45The bat went right into the Yankee dugout and Casey Seckl makes believe he's mad and gets up on top of the steps.
- 53:51Woody Held slung at that space. It was hard to watch both things.
- 53:55The bat flew all the way into the Yankee dugout and that's a long ways and the ball came just over our heads here in the upper deck.
- 54:03One strike on Woody. Again coach goes into the stretch position.
- 54:11Low curve line of center field. Mattle coming on fast. Makes the running catch.
- 54:17Woody Held sent a line drive into short center field.
- 54:22Mattle got a good jump on it. Four Cleveland in the bottom of the fourth no run.
- 54:26One hit. No Yankee errors. Two men left to score at the end of fourth inning.
- 54:31The Yankee's four runs. Five hits no errors. The Indians no runs. Three hits and no errors.
- 54:38While they're changing positions on the diamond, I'd like to mention right now that the second half of this game is being brought to you by the Chris Brefresher Valentine Bear.
- 54:46You know Valentine's a light bear with two lager flavor and that's what makes it the Chris Brefresher.
- 54:53Well we got a new pitcher coming in for Cleveland. Bobby Locke who has been out there loosening up is taking over for Jim Perry.
- 55:02So Bobby Locke comes on making his sixth appearance of the year. He's one one and lost none.
- 55:10He's picked 21 in the third inning. He's given up 18 hits. Six runs. Five of them earned.
- 55:16Two points. One one earned run average.
- 55:19Locke 10 struck out six. Given up one homer. Locke will be facing Mattle, Maris and Hadley here in the top of the fifth inning with the Yankees leading four to nothing.
- 55:30Mickey flying to center and walk.
- 55:34Pitch is popped in the air and back of the plate. Romano throws the mask away and makes the catch 40 yards.
- 55:43And since many men also got hit in the mouth with a mask thrown by Elf and Howard going after a foul board, you can see the umpires and the batters moving out of the range when the catcher starts to throw that mask.
- 55:56Here's Roger Maris flying to left and walk. One out, nobody on.
- 56:01Locke fits the Maris high outside ball one.
- 56:17One nothing delivery. He's hit on the ground in the first base. Vic power up with a flip to lock covering for the outs.
- 56:24That's two way and it brings up Kent Hadley.
- 56:36Hadley bounce to first base and popped up to the third baseman.
- 56:41Pitch to Hadley is fouled back of the plate strike one. Two out, nobody on.
- 56:59Fastball high outside one on one.
- 57:15Here's a pitch to Hadley. He swings and has a home run board and he hit that one.
- 57:20He caught all of the high fastball and drilled it deep into the decent right field.
- 57:25That Hadley has got good power and again with two outs.
- 57:32The Yankees scored, they scored all their runs after two were outs.
- 57:36And they now take a five to nothing lead over Cleveland.
- 57:40Boy, Hadley really pounded that ball.
- 57:43It was hit, Harvey changes, turned around and watched him go way back in the decent right field.
- 57:48Here's Elf and Howard bounce to second and single.
- 57:51Fastball fouled back on the screen, strike one.
- 58:07One strike pitch is lined to base hit to left center field for Howard.
- 58:12Faso coming in fast up with the ball and Howard's on with his second base hit.
- 58:32That's the seventh Yankee hit of the ball game and Johnny Temple comes in to talk to Bobby Locke.
- 58:38Howard is at first.
- 58:40The batter is Peter Boyle who was called out on strike and then hit into a double play.
- 58:49Here's a stretch to pitch to Boyle, his low ball one.
- 59:08Here's a stretch.
- 59:10Pitch is up in the air, the third baseman, Bobba Phillips, moving in foul territory.
- 59:15Look at the wind take that back and he dropped the ball.
- 59:19He dropped the ball, you should have seen that wind took that ball back at least 15 feet.
- 59:24He was way in foul territory and ended up about 10 feet in fair territory and Phillip must have taken his eye off the ball
- 59:31because he had a lunge to his left and it kicked off the heel of his glove.
- 59:35That's an error charged to Bobba Phillips.
- 59:38Howard was running all the way, ended up at third.
- 59:40The clearest boyle was watching the ball a little too much and ends up at first base.
- 59:45There's the first error of the ball game and here's Bobby Richardson, the line to left and single to right.
- 59:52One is at first and third, two are.
- 59:56The stretch and the pitch to Bobby is popped in the air to short right field, it's going to be trouble.
- 1:00:01And Sepple can't get it but it kicked foul. Johnny Sepple, Dick Farr and Harvey Keane couldn't catch up to that ball
- 1:00:08but it landed foul by about two feet.
- 1:00:13Sepple limping back to second base, he's been playing with a badly bruised ankle.
- 1:00:21One strike on Bobby Richardson.
- 1:00:24The Yankees leading five to nothing here in the top of the fifth.
- 1:00:42The stretch by lock.
- 1:00:44The one strike pitch is hit in the ground at short.
- 1:00:47Hell, let's do Sepple covering to retire Boyle.
- 1:00:52Four of the Yankees in the top of the fifth, one run on a homer by Kent Hadley.
- 1:00:57There were two bases in the inning, one Cleveland era, two men left to score at the end of four and a half innings.
- 1:01:04The Yankees five in the Indians, nothing.
- 1:01:12Oh, you be crisp on fear but the fight's a real life. When true larger fighters, the fight's only right.
- 1:01:26Rivalry golden, crystal clear, red, green, red, red.
- 1:01:33Bow to time, bow to time, fear.
- 1:01:50Oh, you be crisp on fear, say get to bow to time, say get to bow to time, get to ice cold bow to time, fear.
- 1:02:10In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bob Phillips will be leading off.
- 1:02:18Bob will bounce out to a third base in the second inning his first time at bat.
- 1:02:22Yankees lead five-nothing.
- 1:02:24The pitch to Phillips' line to Centipede, a base hit.
- 1:02:31That's hit number four off-coach.
- 1:02:37And that'll bring up Bobby Locke, who was a pretty good hitting pitcher by the way.
- 1:02:43Locke is three for five this year, batting 600, has one double, two runs batted in.
- 1:02:52The Yankees leading five-nothing, they get their lead off head around again.
- 1:02:56That's the third time in five innings that the lead off man has gotten on base.
- 1:03:01Coach talking with Swedish Boyer.
- 1:03:13Bob Phillips' first base, can't hardly sling in back of the runner at first.
- 1:03:17Nobody out here in the bottom of the fifth.
- 1:03:24Coach steps off the mound to look back at his outfield.
- 1:03:28Now he checks the sign from house.
- 1:03:36Here's the stretch. Pitch is in there, strike one call, the fast ball just above the knees.
- 1:03:42Bobby Locke didn't like the call too much.
- 1:03:48Quite a famous golfer by the same name, Bobby Locke.
- 1:03:53Here's the stretch.
- 1:03:55The curve is hitting the ground, Kubeck up with it, over to Richardson for one back to first.
- 1:04:00Not in time, he beats the throw to first.
- 1:04:03It was a tough chance for Kubeck as the ball was coming on a big hop.
- 1:04:06It hit the edge of the infield grass and then scooted on the ground.
- 1:04:10Tony had to get out quickly to get it and Hurridge is throw to Richardson.
- 1:04:15It's a fourth play from short to second, getting Phillips, Locke safe at first,
- 1:04:19here's Johnny Semple, who singled and fly to right.
- 1:04:22One away.
- 1:04:24Alright, here's the stretch by Coach.
- 1:04:26Pitch to tempo, high and side ball one.
- 1:04:31Jimmy Pearce all on deck.
- 1:04:44Again, Coach sets.
- 1:04:47Here's the stretch.
- 1:04:49And the pitch is one is on the third baseline, it's a beauty if it stays there, it's a base hit.
- 1:04:54And it stays there, a perfect punch.
- 1:05:06Boy, Johnny Semple dropped a bunch about 15 feet down the third baseline.
- 1:05:11It hooked the baseline going down and all how it coasted and boy, if it do,
- 1:05:16was hoped that it would roll foul but it stayed right on the line and it's a fair ball of base hit.
- 1:05:22Hit number five off-coach.
- 1:05:25Run as it first and second with one out, here's Jimmy Pearce off.
- 1:05:30Pearce all twice, flying to right field.
- 1:05:33Five-nothing, the Yankees lead.
- 1:05:38Here's the stretch.
- 1:05:41Pitch to Jimmy is hit.
- 1:05:43Here comes Lock.
- 1:05:46Pepple going to third, the third and Pearce all goes into second base.
- 1:06:04Jimmy Pearce all bounce to single off the hard infield, all the boy is head.
- 1:06:09Bobby Lock came on a score, Pepple split into third as Lopez threw to third and when Pearce also,
- 1:06:14Lopez throw going into boy, he took off and beat boy as throw to Richardson at second base.
- 1:06:20So the Indians have run as it's second and third, one out, it's a five-to-one ball game
- 1:06:24and the batter is hardly seen, we're hitting it with double play and lined out deep to right center.
- 1:06:31And the Indian fans are whooping it up.
- 1:06:34Pepple at third, Pearce all at second, here's the wind-up.
- 1:06:37Pitch is a base hit to left field and the ball gets by Lopez.
- 1:06:59Back to Lopez trying to make a shoot-string catch, the ball got by him,
- 1:07:03but Harvey Keane was not running and so was not able to make second base,
- 1:07:07but both Pepple and Pearce all scored.
- 1:07:10It's now a five-to-three ball game with one out here in the bottom of the fifth
- 1:07:15and the batter, Tito Francona.
- 1:07:19Francona has walked and singled and these Indian fans are going wild.
- 1:07:34Here's a stretch back coach, Pitch, a foul back out of play, strike-wise.
- 1:07:41Bobby Shans is up in the Yankee bullpen.
- 1:07:51The bottom of the fifth inning, three Indians have crossed on plate.
- 1:07:55Five-three to Yankees lead.
- 1:08:00Here's a stretch, low-curve, high ball one-one-one.
- 1:08:06On deck is Vic Power.
- 1:08:21Coach's into the stretch position.
- 1:08:24Pitch, change-up, high outside ball two, two-one.
- 1:08:29Elston Howard rubs up the ball.
- 1:08:35They're holding first base against Harvey Keane.
- 1:08:53Here's a stretch by Coach.
- 1:08:56Pitch, foul back, strike-wise, two-one-two.
- 1:09:03Pitch, might have been a little high that Francona went after.
- 1:09:08And Coach wants another ball.
- 1:09:10Goes that one back in a plate on fire box to it.
- 1:09:14Two balls, two strikes, one out.
- 1:09:17High two and two to the count. Here's a stretch.
- 1:09:20Pitch, high ball three, three and two.
- 1:09:24And Coach wants a different base ball.
- 1:09:28Took a long time rubbing that one up, going to the Rosenberg.
- 1:09:30He threw it once and asked for another ball.
- 1:09:33Full count on Tito Francona with Harvey Keane at first, one out.
- 1:09:37And the Yankees leading five-three in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:09:41Here's a stretch.
- 1:09:43Pitch, high ball four.
- 1:09:52And while Elston Howard goes out to the mound to talk with Jim,
- 1:09:54Coach will pause for a station identification.
- 1:10:031460 on the radio dial, quality modern radio in Albany, WOKO.
- 1:10:08And now here comes Casey Stengel out to the mound.
- 1:10:12And listen to the greeting old cases get.
- 1:10:17That's music to Casey's ears though, doesn't bother him one bit.
- 1:10:22Elston Howard joins Casey out on the mound with Jim Coach.
- 1:10:26Johnny James and Bobby Chance continue to loosen up in the Yankee bullpen.
- 1:10:31The Indians have scored three runs here in the bottom of the fifth.
- 1:10:34They got runners at first and second with one out.
- 1:10:36And the batter is Vic Pahler who has popped the short and lined out to center field.
- 1:10:44So Casey has his chat with Coach and leaves him in there.
- 1:10:48High one away. Here's a stretch.
- 1:10:54Pitch is high ball one.
- 1:11:01Coach checks the sign from Howard.
- 1:11:04Runners lead away at first and second.
- 1:11:07Pitch, curve low outside ball two, two and nothing.
- 1:11:13On deck is Johnny Romano.
- 1:11:18Coach into the stretch position.
- 1:11:22Pitch is hit on the ground, a safe hit.
- 1:11:27And here's a throw to the plate.
- 1:11:29And it's a wild throw.
- 1:11:32Team scores moving to third.
- 1:11:34And the second is Vic Pahler.
- 1:11:44A base hit off Bobby Richardson's glove.
- 1:11:51Bobby knocked it down, couldn't get to the ball.
- 1:11:55Harvey Keane round at third base.
- 1:11:57Richardson made a hurried throw that hit in front of Howard and rolled back to the wall.
- 1:12:01Coach was not backing up the play.
- 1:12:04Team scored moving to third is Frank Kona.
- 1:12:06Moving to second is Vic Pahler.
- 1:12:08It's now a 5-4 ball game with the Yankees leading.
- 1:12:12And Jim Coast is out of the ball game.
- 1:12:19So the error will be charged to Bobby Richardson on a throw.
- 1:12:24As it hit in front of Howard and scooted under his glove.
- 1:12:30The Indians have come up with 5 hits in this inning.
- 1:12:34They have a total of 8 all together.
- 1:12:36They've scored all 4 of their runs.
- 1:12:38They have run it at second and third with 1-0.
- 1:12:42And Bobby's chance is coming on a relief.
- 1:12:45Jim Coast.
- 1:12:49So Coast cannot be the winning pitcher in this ball game and could very well be the losing pitcher.
- 1:12:57Should both Frank Kona and Pahler score and the Indians go on to win the game.
- 1:13:02We notice why little Bobby was hitting fungos during outfield and infield practice.
- 1:13:07He kept feeling that left shoulder of theirs.
- 1:13:11Stretching the arm and grabbing back at it.
- 1:13:18Romano has struck out and walked.
- 1:13:23And then they have a second base Vic Pahler and over at third base Tito Frank Kona.
- 1:13:30Alright Johnny Romano steps in on the batter's box.
- 1:13:34Runs it second and third lead away. Here's the wind up.
- 1:13:38The pitch is a curve high ball one.
- 1:13:43Bobby swings his left arm around a couple of times to loosen up.
- 1:13:50Here's the wind up. Curve strike call one to one.
- 1:13:57Romano try to duck under that pitch.
- 1:14:01Shakes his head and says no no to play it on fire box short.
- 1:14:075-4 the Yankees lead the Indians where in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:14:12Yankee infield playing back they're not playing in to cut the runoff at the plate.
- 1:14:17Outfield straight away and deep on Romano. Here's the wind up.
- 1:14:21Curve is high ball two. How it's left to throw down a second base.
- 1:14:25Vic Pahler takes the biggest lead of any base runoff when he's on second base and there's a runner on third.
- 1:14:32Sometimes he goes better than halfway down a third.
- 1:14:37Kubeck playing in the hole for Romano cannot hold Vic Pahler on and Richardson is playing deep at second base.
- 1:14:44There goes Pahler. Boy he is way up there.
- 1:14:47Here's the wind up. The 2-1 pitch.
- 1:14:51High outside ball three. 3-1.
- 1:15:05Three balls one strike and one out. Vic Pahler leads off second. Hito Frank corner off first.
- 1:15:11Here's the wind up. Curve outside ball four.
- 1:15:15The bases are loaded and the batter is Woody Hale.
- 1:15:27Those single to left and lined out to center field.
- 1:15:305-4 the score in the bottom of the fifth. The bases full of Indians. They're on the warpath for the base path rather.
- 1:15:37And here's Woody Hale. Anky infield back in double play depth.
- 1:15:43Here's the wind up. The pitch. Outside ball one.
- 1:15:53Again the wind up. Curve swung it and missed strike one one one.
- 1:16:01Joe Gordon yelling from the Indian bench. Woody Hale looks over there.
- 1:16:08Joe doesn't want Woody to swing too hard. Just get a piece of the ball.
- 1:16:14Here's the wind up. Slow curve, bun it out and foul as they try to squeeze in the tying run.
- 1:16:21One ball two strikes. Kent Hadley was playing deep at first base and Woody Hale tried to push the ball down that way but fouled it.
- 1:16:28He had a good pitch to try and bun on. A slow curve ball.
- 1:16:33Here's the wind up. The pitch. High ball two, two and two.
- 1:16:46Brett Kress coaching at first. Walked halfway in. A home plate. Hale something. Woody Hale.
- 1:16:51Boy this is the tense moment in the ball game. Two balls two strikes. One out base is loaded. Here's the wind up.
- 1:16:58Curve gets away from Howard. Here comes the tying run.
- 1:17:10A wild pitch. Gards to Bobby Shenz. Fran Conest scores and the ball game is all tied up.
- 1:17:18That run is charged to Jim Coates.
- 1:17:25And now Vic Power is at third. Johnny Romano at second base. A three-two count on Woody Hale with one out and a score tied five-five.
- 1:17:36Boy that's something you very seldom see Bobby Shenz executing a wild pitch.
- 1:17:43Casey Singleton standing up on the top step of the Yankee dugout and he pulls Kent Hadley in at first and Cleetus Boyer in at third.
- 1:17:51And they're going to walk. Held intentionally they're going to load them up.
- 1:17:58The bases are loaded and the batter is Bubba Phillips.
- 1:18:02Phillips led off this inning. He's the tenth Indian to come to bat. Bubba Singleton a field. He bounced the third in the second inning.
- 1:18:14Once again the bases are loaded. With one out the score tied five-five. Cleveland has scored all five runs here in the bottom of the fifth.
- 1:18:23Vic Power with a big lead at third. Johnny Romano at second. Woody Hale at first. Here's the wind up.
- 1:18:29The pitch. Curve ball popped in the air. Kent Hadley is under it and fouls territory and makes the catch.
- 1:18:35As Bubba Phillips tried to check his swing the bat hit the ball and it was a short fly to first base.
- 1:18:41And here comes Bobby Locke. Locke bounced into a fourth play in the very same inning. This is his second time at bat.
- 1:18:51And he's a pretty good hitting pitcher. The score is tied five-five and we're in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:18:58Yankee infield and most of the fans kind of expecting a squeeze play that time with Bubba Phillips up there.
- 1:19:05But it didn't materialize. Two men out bases still loaded.
- 1:19:16Bobby looks at Vic Power. Here's the wind up. Curve outside ball one. Power has got chance worried a little bit over there at third.
- 1:19:24He would try and steal home. He's done it before quite a few times.
- 1:19:30Chance checking the sign. Here's the wind up. The pitch is a curve hit on the ground.
- 1:19:35Who backs to his right up with it over to Richardson. In time to get Woody Hale.
- 1:19:39Boy and Hale had some jumps. A fourth play from short to second and for Cleveland in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:19:49Five runs. Five bases. One Yankee error. Three men left on bases score at the end of five for winning.
- 1:19:58All tied up. The Yankees five and the Indians five.
- 1:20:03So with the score tied five-five we're ready to go on the top of the sixth inning.
- 1:20:08And leading off for the Yankees will be Bobby Schantz.
- 1:20:12And so Jim Koch keeps his consecutive game winning streak intact. He cannot be the losing pitcher nor the winning pitcher.
- 1:20:19He has won 12 games in a row. Bobby Schantz and Bobby Locke are now the pitchers of record.
- 1:20:25Cleveland came up with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Yet the Yankees were kind of lucky because the Indians had the bases loaded with only one out and failed the score.
- 1:20:39And incidentally that was an RBI credited to Vic Power on his infield single off Richardson's glove in the fifth inning.
- 1:20:53All right Bobby Schantz is up there. He's 0-4 on the air as a batter. Bobby Locke ready on the mound.
- 1:21:00His pitch to Schantz is a strike call. A fastball over the outside corner.
- 1:21:05And the Yankees and the Yankees have bounced to the box and doubled the right center field. Jim had driven in a run and scored a run.
- 1:21:12The Indians got to him in the fifth inning. Pitch outside ball one-one-one.
- 1:21:29The one-one pitch is foul-tipped back strike two, one ball two strikes. His pitch is high inside two and two of the counts.
- 1:21:53Here's a two-two delivery. Pitch is inside ball three, three and two.
- 1:22:03Both count on Schantz. Here's the playoff pitch. Low ball four. Bobby gets the base on ball. First walk given up by Locke.
- 1:22:17And Schantz declines his warm-up jacket. And here's Tony Kubeck who bounced the second and then homed in the third and fourth innings.
- 1:22:25Tony has driven in three runs tonight. That is six and seven homers of the year.
- 1:22:33He already has more home runs this year than he had all last year.
- 1:22:39Schantz at first with nobody out and scored side five-five. Top of the sixth.
- 1:22:44Here's the stretch. Pitch has wanted a good bounce down third. The throw to first just in time to get Kubeck.
- 1:22:52Boy, I said it, that was a pretty bump by Tony Kubeck.
- 1:22:57Bobba Phillips really had a hustle to throw him out at first, moving down the second base.
- 1:23:03Is Bobby Schantz. And here's Hechtel-Ophez who walked twice and fly to center field.
- 1:23:09The right-hander says, curve hit on the ground. A temple off his glove in the right field as the base.
- 1:23:16Schantz will score right at Johnny Temple. But it took a wicked hop off his glove and the Yankees lead six to five.
- 1:23:25They give him a base hit on it and an RBI. Boy, that ball was hard hit.
- 1:23:33So Bobby Schantz scores and the Yankees take the lead again six to five and here's Mickey Matel with Lopez at first.
- 1:23:40Temple went down at one knee as the ball hit about three feet in front of him but then it kicked high on off his glove in a short right field.
- 1:23:51Matel, fly to center, walked and fouled out to the catcher.
- 1:23:57Mickey is over four strikes. So that walk was costly given up by Bobby Locke as he walked little Bobby Schantz.
- 1:24:16Here's the stretch. The pitch curve of Hechtel-Calls. Boy, that was a big curveball. Just kept coming down and down.
- 1:24:26Two strikes on Mickey.
- 1:24:41Outside ball one. One ball, two strikes, one out, one run in. Hechtel-Opez at first base.
- 1:25:00The stretch and the curve is a little bit high ball two. Two and two. The infield, temple, thick power.
- 1:25:11The catcher, Romano and the pitch, Locke all waving their arms saying that was a good pitch. Two and two on Mickey.
- 1:25:23Jimmy Pearce all is thrown his hat in his gloves out in the center field. Look at Pearce all these.
- 1:25:32And Pearce all might throw, be thrown out of the game as Bob Stewart, the played umpire, starts walking out that way.
- 1:25:42And up temple and Bob Stewart arguing at the pitchers box. And Vic Powers walking over here. Come Joe Gordon.
- 1:25:53And Gordon is arguing with Bob Stewart. Boy, Joe is not. I'm telling you.
- 1:26:03And while Joe Gordon is arguing with played umpire Bob Stewart, let's pause for a station identification.
- 1:26:30WOKO Albany, New York. All right, all the arguments seem to have ended. Mickey Mantle with a count two and two on him, one out.
- 1:26:38Low peasant first. Here's the stretch by Locke. The pitch, strike three, swinging.
- 1:26:48Mickey went after a low fastball, didn't get it. That's two out. The Yankees leading six-five, here's Roger Maris.
- 1:26:54Maris blind to left walk and bounced out to first base.
- 1:27:13All right, here's the stretch by Locke. The pitch to Maris is strike one and swinging a miss.
- 1:27:27One strike two out. Here's the stretch. Curve is lying to right field and that's in here for base pitch.
- 1:27:34Keen up with it, deep in the corner to throw to second and it holds Maris to a long single.
- 1:27:41That was a long single, deep in the corner and Keen played that ball like an infielder.
- 1:27:52Roger Maris just got his fourth base hit off Cleveland pitching this year and Joe Gordon is coming out to the mound.
- 1:28:00And that could be all for Bobby Locke. And now they call for Klipschine.
- 1:28:07So Locke is out of there after pitching one and two-third innings in which he allows four base hits.
- 1:28:14Walk one, struck out one and has allowed three runs. Locke leaves Klipschine, comes on.
- 1:28:21Klipschine is six-one, 189 pounds from Chicago, Illinois with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, had one-four and lost none.
- 1:28:34Here's Ken Hadley. Hadley bounce the first, pops up the third and homer deep in the right field seat. Two men are out.
- 1:28:48Alright, here's the stretch by Klipschine. The pitch is popped in the air to short right field.
- 1:28:54Bobby Keen coming a long ways is under it and makes the catch for the outboard. Was that high?
- 1:29:01Go Klipschine with one pitch gets out of the inning for the Yankees in the top of the sixth one run on two base hits.
- 1:29:08No Indian errors and two men left on base.
- 1:29:15The score at the end of five and a half innings of the Yankees sixth and the Indians five.
- 1:29:22If you are in SmackDown.
- 1:29:29According with all the names associated with all your cowboys,
- 1:30:11Go here!
- 1:30:13Hey, get your battle right here!
- 1:30:16At the top of the Indian batting order,
- 1:30:19Johnny Temple, Jimmy Piersol and Harvey Keane will be facing Bobby Shant here
- 1:30:23in the bottom of the sixth with the Yankees leading sixth to five.
- 1:30:26Temple is two for three singles,
- 1:30:29fly to right and beat out a butt.
- 1:30:31He scored one run.
- 1:30:32Alright, here's Bobby's first pitch,
- 1:30:34low curve, outside ball one.
- 1:30:36Here's the wind-up.
- 1:30:38Fastball on the inside corner, one-on-one.
- 1:30:49Shant's into the wind-up.
- 1:30:51Pitch low, outside ball two, two-on-one.
- 1:31:00Alright, Shant's ready.
- 1:31:02Low curve, high ball three, three-on-one.
- 1:31:12Here's a three-one pitch curve, low outside ball four, he lost them.
- 1:31:19That's the third walk given up by Shant, and here's Jimmy Piersol.
- 1:31:23We're going to have action in the Yankee bullpen.
- 1:31:35Piersol, fly to right, twice single or left.
- 1:31:38He's driven in a run and scored one.
- 1:31:40Pitch high inside ball one.
- 1:31:44Johnny James loosening up for the Yankees.
- 1:31:47Shant's in the lead.
- 1:31:52Temple is at first being held on by Kent Hadley.
- 1:31:54He represents the same run.
- 1:31:58Here's a stretch by Shant.
- 1:32:00Pitch is putter down third.
- 1:32:02Good front-boy at bubbles of balls, and it cannot make a play.
- 1:32:06All hands are safe.
- 1:32:08That'll go as a sacrifice and an error.
- 1:32:15Cleetis boy, it took his eye off the ball to watch Piersol,
- 1:32:18and it just kicked off the end of his glove, and now,
- 1:32:21the Indians have run as at first and second with nobody else.
- 1:32:26Look at Piersol getting in the lead.
- 1:32:28He's got a good ball.
- 1:32:30He's got a good ball.
- 1:32:32He's got a good ball.
- 1:32:34Look at Piersol getting on the official scorer.
- 1:32:39Boy, he gets on everybody from every place.
- 1:32:44He wanted a base hit on that.
- 1:32:47And here comes Casey Stengel.
- 1:32:50I tell you, that Piersol gets on the up-liar from center field.
- 1:32:53He gets on the official scorer from first base.
- 1:32:55And now Casey Stengel wants to talk with Bob Stewart.
- 1:32:58And Stengel wants to know how strong that Piersol gets away with all his shenanigans.
- 1:33:03Because other ball players have been thrown out for a lot less than Piersol has done tonight.
- 1:33:10Jimmy is a good ball player, and he plays it to the hilt,
- 1:33:15but at times he does think that other ball players would have been thrown out a long time ago.
- 1:33:21Piersol would have been a dead duck at first base if Kubek fielded the ball perfectly.
- 1:33:26It was not a hard chance. It was a good one.
- 1:33:28But Boyer was playing in. He booted the ball,
- 1:33:30and rightly so the official scorer charged him with an error.
- 1:33:33A sacrifice and an error.
- 1:33:35Runners at first and second, nobody out.
- 1:33:37The Yankees leading 6-5.
- 1:33:39The batter Harvey Sheen, who hit into a double play,
- 1:33:42fly to right, finger to left. He's driven in, two and scored one.
- 1:33:45At least he's got a good ball.
- 1:33:47The ball is in a third.
- 1:33:52Here's a stretch.
- 1:33:54Pitch gets away from Howard Decker.
- 1:33:57The runners don't throw and all hands are safe.
- 1:34:00Another wild pitch, got to Bobby Shans,
- 1:34:03and here comes Kabe Sengles.
- 1:34:05And Shans is out of the ballgame.
- 1:34:08Boy, I said he's out of the ballgame.
- 1:34:11Shans is out of the ballgame.
- 1:34:17Boy, I said if Shans is on, must be bothering him.
- 1:34:20That's his second wild pitch of the ballgame.
- 1:34:23And besides that, he's walked three men already.
- 1:34:26And they're calling for Johnny James.
- 1:34:29Both runners advance.
- 1:34:31Sengles went to third. Piers all to second.
- 1:34:34A one-ball, no strike count on Harvey Sheen.
- 1:34:40And now for Bobby Shans.
- 1:34:43So Bobby has actually pitched just two-thirds of an inning.
- 1:34:50And the strange part about it is that Shans has not given up a base hit.
- 1:34:54Johnny James is making his 19th appearance of the year.
- 1:35:00He's won three and lost none.
- 1:35:02Has an earned run average of 3.67.
- 1:35:07James will be pitching to Harvey Sheen, Tito Francona and Vic Pao.
- 1:35:11The Indians have the tang, run at third.
- 1:35:13The lead, run at second. There's nobody out.
- 1:35:15Now Piers all is talking with Tony Kubek.
- 1:35:21Looks like Piers all enjoys talking as much as Yogi Berra enjoys talking to other players.
- 1:35:27Except that Yogi doesn't get near. He's excited as Piers all.
- 1:35:35But that's what you call a colorful ball player.
- 1:35:38Outfield straight away on Keen. The infield is playing back. Here's the wind-up.
- 1:35:42The pitch is a curve high inside ball one. Keen has to go down.
- 1:35:53Six-five, the Yankees lead.
- 1:35:55In the bottom of the sixth inning. Here's the wind-up.
- 1:35:58Pitch is swung at a missed strike one, one-on-one.
- 1:36:02Now the two balls, one strike, Keen had some cut at that one.
- 1:36:07One-on-one with James, but Bobby Sheen has thrown a ball.
- 1:36:18Curve is low. Ball three, three and one.
- 1:36:20Johnny Gabler is up in the Yankee bullpen.
- 1:36:31Three balls, one strike on Bobby Sheen.
- 1:36:40Here's the wind-up. Outside ball four.
- 1:36:50The bases are loaded in here. Cito Francona. Nobody out.
- 1:36:55Francona walks twice and singles. He scored one run.
- 1:37:06Six-five, the Yankees lead. The Indians are threatening. Bases loaded. Nobody out.
- 1:37:11Johnny James, the third Yankee pitcher of the night out on the mound.
- 1:37:16Here's the wind-up. The pitch. Curve hits deep to right center field.
- 1:37:20Way back there. And what a catch Maris made. Holy cow.
- 1:37:26He took a grand slam home run away from Cito Francona.
- 1:37:30One of the greatest plays we've ever seen and Maris has heard a little bit out there.
- 1:37:36The top of the wire fence hit him underneath his left arm.
- 1:37:40One of the greatest plays we have ever seen.
- 1:37:43That ball was out of the ball box. Maris put his right hand up on the top of the fence.
- 1:37:48Leaped as high as he could. Caught the ball and came down with his left arm hung up on the fence.
- 1:37:55That was a grand slammer all the way if I've ever seen one.
- 1:38:00The run scores on the long-sacrificed fly by Francona. That ties up the ball game.
- 1:38:05Driving in Johnny Temple, moving the third on the play with fierce oil,
- 1:38:09but Harvey Keane was so stunned by the great catch of Maris's that he remained at first base.
- 1:38:16That run has charged to Bobby Keane and here's Vic Power who popped the short line to center and singles.
- 1:38:23Six to score. Boy, what a play that was. Here's the stretch.
- 1:38:27There goes the runner. The ball is hit on the ground a third. They got fierce oil hung up.
- 1:38:32He's in a run down. Howard runs him back. And now they run him back to third.
- 1:38:41And fierce oil is tagged out, but not before he hung up there in plenty of time to let both runners advance.
- 1:38:48On the field is Joyce.
- 1:38:54Went from five to two to five to one to six. Kubek making the put out.
- 1:39:12But Keane went to third and Vic Power advanced to second. Now they're at two out and the batter is Johnny Romano the catcher who struck out in walk flight.
- 1:39:21Four to side six-six. The Indians have had some wonderful scoring opportunities when they haven't been able to cash in on them.
- 1:39:28Outside of the six runs they've already scored.
- 1:39:31Vic to Romano. Best ball hit on the ground. A short Kubek. A long throw. In time to get Romano.
- 1:39:40So for the Indians in the bottom of the sixth inning, one run on Nariya Bay Fit. One Yankee era.
- 1:39:54And two men left on base in the score at the end of sixth full inning. All tied up to Yankee sixth and the Indians sixth.
- 1:40:01Boy I'd say that we got a dandy going here.
- 1:40:08Looks like Jim Coast was well on his way to his ninth victory having a five nothing lead but the Indians came back.
- 1:40:14And we're getting ready to go here in the top of the seventh and coming over to the radio side will be Mellon right after we pause for station identification.
- 1:40:271460 on the radio dial. Quality modern radio. WOKO Albany, New York. 1030.
- 1:40:46Hello there everybody. Elston Howard takes the pitch low for a ball as we play in the seventh inning.
- 1:40:53Mellon Hennick Epstein doing the delivering and his next pitch bounces by the catcher for ball two.
- 1:41:01Howard beats Epstein in relief in New York recently as a pinch hitter when he had a home run off of him.
- 1:41:15The delivery on its way is inside for ball three. Howard grounded the second single to center twice.
- 1:41:25Six six that's the seventh inning. And the next pitch is inside for ball four. Howard walks open the seventh.
- 1:41:42The fourth player took a third strike. Hits the box into a double play. And reached first base safe on an error by Phillips.
- 1:41:55Been a while in Wolley when this is a game of being remembered all the rest of the year.
- 1:42:00The second base has to be. The punt and the play will be the second base but it is too late. Everybody's safe.
- 1:42:13Johnny Epstein threw on to Woody Hell but his throw was late. He had to sacrifice and feel his choice.
- 1:42:28The ball hands safe. No error on the play.
- 1:42:34An error of judgment which is not scored in the box score.
- 1:42:41Now Bobby Richardson who lined the left single to right and grounded the short steps up.
- 1:42:48Big power shortened up at first ready to move in on a punt if such be forthcoming.
- 1:42:55The ball is taken high and inside. Oh Bobby gone into a funny position.
- 1:43:19The second base delivery is taken for a strike one in one.
- 1:43:35One ball one strike. Johnny Epstein to the stretch. Here's the pitch.
- 1:43:39He won it and Romano and he loses the ball and everybody is safe. Romano feeling the box.
- 1:43:49Let the ball slip out of his hand and the bases are loaded.
- 1:43:55It's a wild night. I'll tell you that.
- 1:44:00That's the third. Boyer to second. Richardson to first. Sacrifice and an error.
- 1:44:13I'll tell you it's contagious tonight.
- 1:44:20And now Johnny James is scheduled to bat but Yogi Berra is coming out to hit for Johnny James.
- 1:44:49Powered on third. Boyer on second and Richardson on first.
- 1:44:54And we've got some action in the Cleveland Bowl fan. Briggs is warming up.
- 1:45:00Yogi Berra hitting for James. We have Gabler warming up for New York.
- 1:45:06Ford's been loosening up but he was scheduled to start tomorrow the next day.
- 1:45:12Epstein into the wind up. The pitch is in there for a strike.
- 1:45:17Berra hitting 303.
- 1:45:31Now the wind up and the pitch inside for a ball one in one.
- 1:45:44Powered on third. Boyer on second. Richardson on first.
- 1:45:48Six sixths of course. The seventh inning.
- 1:45:52The wind up and the pitch. Outside for ball two. Two and one.
- 1:46:11Here's the two on delivery. Inside ball three. Three and one.
- 1:46:20Three balls. One strike.
- 1:46:36Three runners lead away. The wind up. The three one pitch. Swung on and fouled back.
- 1:46:41Full count now on Berra.
- 1:46:51Berra batting for James.
- 1:47:01Three runners lead away. The payoff pitch and Yogi swings fouls it back. Got remains three and two.
- 1:47:19Powered on third. Boyer on second. Richardson on first.
- 1:47:24The wind up and the pitch. It's low inside. Ball four. Yogi walks and Howard scores.
- 1:47:30Boyer moves to third. Richardson to second. And Berra to first.
- 1:47:37RBI for Yogi. 27. Times called as Berra leaves first base. And we're going to have a runner for him.
- 1:47:49Yogi's had an injured foot.
- 1:47:53Yogi's had an injured foot. And he's going to have a run for Berra.
- 1:48:05And here's Tony Kubeck who grounded the second. Hit two home runs off Jim Perry in the third and fourth innings and sacrificed in the sixth.
- 1:48:15Boyer on third. Richardson on second. Berra on first. Now Joe Gordon brings the infield halfway. Pitch to Tony as low ball one.
- 1:48:37The one nothing delivery. Inside ball two. Two and nothing.
- 1:48:43Joe Gordon comes out of the dugout. We've seen more of the managers tonight than we've seen in any given game all year.
- 1:49:01Johnny Briggs has been warming up. Gordon going out to talk to Johnny Kupstein who has been a spectacular pitcher this year for the Indians.
- 1:49:14He has allowed just a little better than seven tenths of a run for game as his earned run average.
- 1:49:21In 35 and two third innings of relief pitching going into tonight's game. He had given up just 15 hits and three runs.
- 1:49:32Walked 11. Struck out 23. So Joe is going to stay with him a little longer. Walked out and shoved him down.
- 1:49:41Obviously the Yankees in the setting haven't heard him in the way of batting a walk and two sacrifice. Two bunts that resulted in two sacrifices but nobody being retired.
- 1:49:55Another walk. Here's the two nothing pitch. Swung on and missed track one and it was a bad pitch. It was low and inside and Tony tried to stop his bat but couldn't.
- 1:50:07Two one count. Gave flip sign a lift there. Two one delivery. It's low and inside for ball three three and one.
- 1:50:23Three balls one strike. Boyer Richardson and Gerber lead away and the three one pitch swung on and fouled back out of play.
- 1:50:33Full count. Three balls two strikes. Here's the payoff pitch. Swung on a ground ball hit through the right field for basic Richardson scores in behind Boyer.
- 1:50:57There goes Gerber on his way to third base and he goes there and into second now goes to back as the ball bounced off the golf of Phillips.
- 1:51:08Time call now as Joe Gordon comes out of the dugout. A two run single by Tony Kubek gives him five runs batting in tonight.
- 1:51:19Thirty one the season. It's nine to six New York with runners on second and third and that'll be all for Johnny Clipstein.
- 1:51:28Boyer and Richardson scored and Gerber went to third and Kubek to second.
- 1:51:42He'll check with the scorer to see whether there's any error on the play that developed after the base hit or whether they score.
- 1:51:51Kubek having gone to second on the throw to third while the throw bounced off the chest of Phillips it was nowhere near in time to get Gerber going in.
- 1:52:01But the official scorer might rule it an error enabling Kubek to go to second.
- 1:52:06But he Tony had stopped and when he saw the ball bounce away then went on. So it's something that lies within the judgment of the official scorer.
- 1:52:20Johnny Clipstein now departs and Johnny Bragg comes in.
- 1:52:40He's come on in the sixth inning with two outs. So he worked one third of an inning and allowed one hit.
- 1:52:53He walked two. No strikeouts.
- 1:53:01Got himself into trouble on his throw to second on the bunt by Boyer which Boyer, by which Howard beat and then the error on the next bunt of Richardson's by Romano.
- 1:53:13Duplicating a situation like that which occurred in the sixth inning for the Indians. An error by Boyer on a bunt by Pearsall.
- 1:53:31The official scorer has ruled an error on Harvey Keane on his throw. Two third which enabled Kubek to reach second.
- 1:53:44Johnny Briggs coming in for the thirteenth time this year has a record of three in one.
- 1:53:53This will be his first occurrence against New York. 26 years old, 5'10", 175 pounders.
- 1:54:01And he'll pitch now to Hector Lopez who walked twice, fly to center and single to right.
- 1:54:09On third, Kubek on second. Joe Gordon plays the infield a little better than halfway for a play at the plate. The pitch is inside for a ball.
- 1:54:24Getting some more action in the Indian bullpen.
- 1:54:28And then the wind hawking. Briggs is the right hander. Runners lead away from second and third. The pitch to Hector Lopez is ball too high.
- 1:54:44No strikes. Three runs in on the seventh inning. Yanks nine, Indians six.
- 1:55:02Now the wind up and the two nothing pitch. Lopez swings and bounces it to third. They've got Gerber trapped. They throw to Romano, tags Gerber out on the third, goes to Kubek.
- 1:55:15On the fielders choice play. Phillip in the Romano.
- 1:55:31They're retired to Eli Gerber. Lopez on first, Kubek on third and the batter's manhole. Fly to right center, walk, foul the catcher and struck out.
- 1:55:49One away. The pitch to Mickey is inside, ball one.
- 1:56:07Briggs to the stretch and the pitch. Curve ball is in there. Strike one. One and one.
- 1:56:34One one pitch. High ball two. Two and one.
- 1:56:48Two balls. One strike. One out. Kubek on third and Lopez on first. Johnny Briggs in relief with Johnny Clipstein.
- 1:57:01Here's the pitch to Manhole. Swung on a line drive in the right field. Keen's going over and grabs it. Kubek tags his third. Dicks for the plate and comes in to score.
- 1:57:12Manhole lines out to Harvey Keen in right field and is credited with a sacrifice fly, scoring Kubek, making it 10-6. Lopez holds it first and here's Roger Maras getting a hand for that great play that he made when he robbed Tito Francona of a grand slam homer.
- 1:57:37Last inning. Starting to rain now. The pitch to Maras is high and away for a ball.
- 1:57:59Neither rain or bugs. Look up into the light. Here's the pitch. Swung on and fouled off to the left of the plate. Going to go out of play.
- 1:58:13Four runs in on the seventh. Yankees have scored in every inning but the first two. It's a while and it's got a long way to go yet too.
- 1:58:29The type of game to which the old cliche applies. The seesaw struggles. Now you teeter, now you totter. The 1-1 pitch. Swung on and ground ball hits the second. Up with it is Temple, throws on the power and the sides retired.
- 1:58:49Four runs for New York with only one hit in one error and one man left off. At the end of six and a half innings of play. New York 10, Cleveland six.
- 1:59:10They're playing take me out to the ball game. Where I can get that Valentine. Or if you're at home I hope you got plenty of Valentine on hand.
- 1:59:22Valentine beer, the crisp for pressure. You know to really refresh your beer must have lightness plus flavor. And that's Valentine all the way.
- 1:59:31It's the light beer with true lago flavor. Matter of fact it proves to more and more people every day that a beer can be light and still give you all the downright delicious lago beer flavor you want.
- 1:59:42All of which explains why Valentine beer is the crisp for pressure. So if lightness alone won't do for you, if you want to beer with flavor too, then you just open up for order up smooth, delicious Valentine beer.
- 1:59:56And you'll see why Valentine's the largest selling beer in the east all the way from Maine to Florida.
- 2:00:18In the last half of the seventh inning, Johnny Gable will come into pitch for New York.
- 2:00:37Johnny James came on in the sixth inning with nobody out and still worked the one inning.
- 2:00:54And now Gable.
- 2:01:09Gable will be the first batter. And then we'll have a pinch hitter for Bob Phillips. Looks like Bob Hale.
- 2:01:29He held up. Right hander Johnny Gable to the wind up and the pitch in there for strike.
- 2:01:44Gable's 13th appearance. He has a record of two and three.
- 2:01:56And the next pitch is a curve low outside for a ball one and one.
- 2:02:13The one one pitch to what he held. High ball two, two and one.
- 2:02:27Gable's single left line to center and was purposely passed. Gable's two one pitch. High ball three, three and one.
- 2:02:54Three balls, one strike. The three one pitch. It's high for ball four and Hale walks.
- 2:03:06Eight walks given up by the Yankee pitchers. And here's Bob Hale coming up to bat for Bob Phillips.
- 2:03:31And here's Gable. He'll on back. Well hit for the pitcher.
- 2:03:40Delivers to Hale. He's in there for a strike.
- 2:04:02Gable checks the runner. The pitch to Hale. Swung on foul to strike two. Nothing in two.
- 2:04:15Jim Grant joins Win Hawkins in the bullpen. Nobody warming up for New York just yet.
- 2:04:34Two strikes on Bob Hale. Gable delivers and Hale fouls it back out of play.
- 2:04:48Gable's had six for twenty seven. Gable to the stretch. And the pitch to the left hand batters.
- 2:05:09One ball, one and two. He almost swung at it.
- 2:05:27One ball, two strikes. Johnny Gable checks the runner, Hale and the pitch to Hale.
- 2:05:40One ball, two strikes.
- 2:06:03Hale on first base. Nobody out. The two, two delivery to Hale. Swung on in missed strike three.
- 2:06:13One down. And now here is Marty Keough to bat for Johnny Briggs.
- 2:06:22He's a former Red Soxer, batting 246 on the season. Now Ryan Durin breaks out of the Yankee dugout, runs down to the bullpen.
- 2:06:34Keough and Boesfield came to the Indians from Boston with Nixon and Hardy going to the Red Sox.
- 2:06:47Now they're signaling to Hector Lopez to come in. He went out of position.
- 2:06:54Here's the delivery. Swung on. A down ball, hit through to right field for base hit.
- 2:06:59Hale stops the second. Keough hits the first pitch as a pinch hitter, singles to right.
- 2:07:08And we're off and running again at the Unisport Stadium. Runners on first and second and top of the order.
- 2:07:15Johnny Temple with Jimmy Piersdahl on deck.
- 2:07:23I thought that game in Kansas City the other night was about the wildest of the year and it may have turned out to be,
- 2:07:31but this one is running at a close second and it may even surpass it.
- 2:07:37Tabor pitches Temple. Fast ball over for strike.
- 2:07:50Temple's had two out of three tonight. Walked once. He's on a hot streak.
- 2:07:57Runners lead away from first and second and the pitch. Swung on, bounce toward third.
- 2:08:02Throw over to second for one. Back on to first and he pulls him off the bag. No double play.
- 2:08:08Hale went to third. And now here's Jimmy Piersdahl.
- 2:08:16Temple forces Keough at second. Boyard or Richardson. They failed, however, to double up Temple.
- 2:08:28Hale went on to third. Richardson's throw pulled Hadley off the bag.
- 2:08:34So the Indians still have a life and the Yankees have got some action on the bullpen.
- 2:08:41Duren and Maas. Piersdahl has had one for four.
- 2:08:51Gaper's pitch. Bunnett and the ball is grabbed from front of the plate. Howard throws down to first and Piersdahl is out and so are the Indians.
- 2:09:00Piersdahl attempting a surprise two out. Bunnett is thrown out by Elston Howard.
- 2:09:10No runs for the Indians. One hit. No errors for the Yankees and two Indians left off.
- 2:09:18And at the end of seven innings of play in New York, ten runs, ten hits, two errors.
- 2:09:24Nine men left off. Cleveland, six runs, nine hits, three errors. And eleven men left off base.
- 2:09:33Well, with a new pitcher coming in, why don't you ask the man for Valentine beer?
- 2:09:40The light beer with true lago flavor.
- 2:09:42Enjoy a tall frosty glass bowl right now. We pause for station identification.
- 2:09:481460 on the Radio Dial, Quality Modern Radio, WOKO, Albany, New York.
- 2:09:53New York State Police advise people and onlookers to stay away from the Rotterdam-Carman area of West Connectedee due to the storm and property damage in the area.
- 2:10:04Repeating once more, the New York State Police have advised us to inform the onlookers and people in the area of the Rotterdam-Carman area of West Connectedee to stay away from the area due to storm and property damage.
- 2:10:18Right, Captain.
- 2:10:19Hail batted from Phillips and stays in, goes to first base, power switches over to third.
- 2:10:35And wind hawkins comes in to pitch.
- 2:10:48This is a fifth Cleveland pitcher.
- 2:10:55Riggs came on in the seventh inning to relieve hookstimes or work one inning.
- 2:11:10Wind Hawkins has a record of four and four. His 12th appearance of the season, he has been mostly a starter. Pitching now to Ken Hadley.
- 2:11:21Swings and misses, Frank Wander.
- 2:11:33Hadley's had one for four. That was a home run.
- 2:11:37The pitch is a curve and it's inside. Hadley grounded to first, popped to third at a homer, into the right field seats and fly it out to right.
- 2:11:53Here's the pitch swung on. It's a high pop-up in the short left. Woody Hell drifts out, gets under it and makes the catch.
- 2:12:03Hadley pops out to the short stop in short left.
- 2:12:08Now here's Elston Howard who grounded to second, single to center twice and walks.
- 2:12:20The pay to tenants tonight is $39,675, just short of $40,000.
- 2:12:31Wind Hawkins delivers to Howard, backs him away with an inside pitch ball on Hawkins right-hander.
- 2:12:39Mudcat Grant still warming up along with Gary Bell who just has gotten up.
- 2:12:45They deliver to Howard, swung on, hits the third on one hop.
- 2:12:49He goes on to first in time. Two away. Howard plays third base like a first baseman. I mean by that he's very versatile.
- 2:13:02He plays second or third outfield first but he plays it with a glove hand.
- 2:13:10One hand's of another word.
- 2:13:15Here's Cleat-Foyer. Nothing for three. Takes a strike, took a third strike,
- 2:13:22hit to the box in a double play, grounded to third to safe on an error and sacrificed.
- 2:13:3010-6 New York, it's the eighth inning. Hawkins delivers, swung on and missed. Strike two, good fastball.
- 2:13:44And the strike pitch, two strike pitches outside, ball one, one and two.
- 2:13:50Big Stigman gets up to throw an out and plays a bell.
- 2:13:56The one-two pitch, swung on, lined to short, backhanded beautifully by, what a hell, about a foot off the ground.
- 2:14:06That retired the side in order. No runs, no hits, no errors, no one left on. So for the first time since the second inning the Yankees are out in order.
- 2:14:15And at the end of seven and a half innings, New York 10, Cleveland, six.
- 2:14:22I bet most of you out there know at least one fellow who lacks nothing but the best. That fellow may be you.
- 2:14:28You're only satisfied with the very best of anything you buy.
- 2:14:32You've got good reasons if you're that kind of a person to switch to the crisp refresher, Valentine beer.
- 2:14:38You see every day more and more folks pass the man for Valentine.
- 2:14:42Now when a beer is that popular, it just figures that it's got to be the best. And that's the crisp refresher all the way.
- 2:14:49Valentine's the light beer with true laga flavor. It proves a beer can be truly light and still give you all the honest to goodness laga beer flavor you want.
- 2:15:00So if you enjoy the best, you'll enjoy the one beer that delivers both lightness and flavor. Valentine beer, the crisp refresher.
- 2:15:13Ted Boasfield, loosening up for Cleveland now. He's scheduled to pitch on Sunday.
- 2:15:27Sometimes with so much going on, there's some pitches warming up to ready to come into this game and some are just taking their loosening up for a future start.
- 2:15:36Right now, I'm going to ask the eighth, it's Harvey Keane leading off Francona and power to follow.
- 2:15:42Johnny Gabor to the wind up and the pitch is high, ball one. Keane grounded the third into a double play,
- 2:15:49fly to right, single to left and walk. He's driven in two runs. Gabor's pitch is in there for strike, one-on-one.
- 2:16:15The one-on-one offering, inside for ball two, two-on-one. And it's starting to rain now.
- 2:16:26The rain's starting to come down very hard. The two-on-pitch is low on inside for ball three, three-on-one.
- 2:16:43Three balls, one strike.
- 2:16:54The three-on-pitch, inside for ball four and Keane walks to open the eighth.
- 2:17:03Nine baser on balls, giving up.
- 2:17:11Here's Tito Francona, robbed of a grand slammer by Roger Maris about times called and the ground crew comes out to put the tarplin down.
- 2:17:24At about five after eleven on the clock here, I think it's a couple minutes slow.
- 2:17:33Of course, that had to be an element added into this kind of a game.
- 2:17:44So time has been called at Cleveland in the last of the eighth inning, sudden shower.
- 2:17:51And just as they start getting the tarplin down, it's the rain smackens.
- 2:18:04Still drizzling, but not as hard as it was.
- 2:18:18The rain is just about stopped. Bob Stewart comes out, goes take it off.
- 2:18:27That was a quick one.
- 2:18:41Just a sudden shower, and it started to rain earlier just a little bit.
- 2:18:47The rain began to pour, harden up for them to call time, and just as they got the tarplin covering half of the infield, the rain stopped.
- 2:19:05It's always a difficult situation for the umpires.
- 2:19:13They're rolling the tarplin back, and we'll be playing ball again in just a few seconds.
- 2:19:19We're at Boston Duren, warming up for New York. We have Keen on first base, and Francono will be up to play.
- 2:19:44It gives us a chance to look at some of the scores we haven't looked at in a long while.
- 2:20:04Kansas City leading Baltimore 4-0, 10-2.5 innings. Larson and Brown.
- 2:20:10Lumpy hit a grand slammer in the second innings.
- 2:20:14The White Sox lead the Red Sox 2-1, 10-2.5 innings. Shaw against Mon Bouquet.
- 2:20:19Detroit 4-0, Washington nothing at the end of 7 innings. Bunning for the Tigers.
- 2:20:24Kralik relieved Lee in the second for the Senators.
- 2:20:28In the National League, San Francisco leads Cincinnati 4-2 at the end of 7 innings.
- 2:20:32McCormick for the Giants. Cook for Cincinnati Grim in the 8th.
- 2:20:37Kirkland and Bell of Homer. Bells went off.
- 2:20:40Pittsburgh beat the Cubs 4-1. Myzel beat Ellsworth. Now we're ready to continue here.
- 2:20:46Nobody out. Keen leads off first. The pitch to Francono in there for a strike. Kerbal.
- 2:20:53Philadelphia 4-0, St. Louis 3-0 innings. Roberts against the Decky with Brolio and McDaniel in relief.
- 2:21:03Dodgers and Braves 3-3 down to 5 innings.
- 2:21:06McDaniel is relieved by Roebuck in the second. Willey relieved by Jay in the first.
- 2:21:10Howard Holmwood for the Dodgers and Aaron for the Braves. Aaron came with one on as his 17th.
- 2:21:1910-6, New York, last the 8th. Nobody out. Keen on first. Tito Francona at bat.
- 2:21:26John Gabers pitch in there. Strike 2. Kerbal nothing in 2.
- 2:21:32Francona walks single to center. Walks. And then in the 6th inning was robbed of a grand slam homer on a sensational catch by Roger Merris.
- 2:21:43Gabers to the stretch. Keen leads off first. The pitch to Francona.
- 2:21:47Dodgers foul dipped and dropped. Francona still alive. Howard clock to hang on to the ball.
- 2:22:12John Gabers again to the stretch. Keen leading away from first. The pitch to Francona.
- 2:22:17Buckleball low for a ball. 1-2.
- 2:22:31One ball, two strikes.
- 2:22:38Gabers to the stretch. Here's the pitch to Francona. Swung on a ground ball hit to Hadley.
- 2:22:45He throws to Gabers covering as Keen goes to second.
- 2:22:50Francona grounds out. Hadley to Gabers who covers. Now big power.
- 2:22:57Popped to short. Glad to center. Slingled off the glove of Richardson and grounded to short.
- 2:23:09Big powered bat Johnny Romano on deck.
- 2:23:22Gabers into the stretch. The pitch to power. Swung on grounded toward third.
- 2:23:29It's grabbed by Boria one handed. It throws to first in time as Keen holds second.
- 2:23:33A good play by the third baseman. Two down now.
- 2:23:40Johnny Romano struck out. Walked twice and grounded to short.
- 2:23:53What he held on deck.
- 2:24:10Gabers into the stretch. Keen leads off second.
- 2:24:14And the pitch. It's over for a strike. Curve ball.
- 2:24:27Nothing on the count on Romano.
- 2:24:36Gabers delivers and Romano takes outside for a ball. One and one. Pitch to the right hand batter.
- 2:24:42A little ball low outside. Two and one. Romano swung on. There's a fly ball into deep center.
- 2:24:48Romano trails back and makes the catch. And the sides retired. No runs, no hits, no errors.
- 2:24:55One left on. At the end of eight innings. The Yankees 10 runs, 10 hits, two errors.
- 2:25:00Cleveland six runs, nine hits and three errors.
- 2:25:04In the ninth inning.
- 2:25:11Bobby Richardson will lead off for New York hitting eighth in the order.
- 2:25:20And Gabler and Kubek.
- 2:25:23Wyn Hawkins who came on in the eighth inning.
- 2:25:28The fifth Cleveland pitcher. Jim Perry in four innings allowed five hits.
- 2:25:36And four runs. Bobby Locke in two thirds allowed four hits.
- 2:25:42And two runs. And Clipstein in the third of an inning.
- 2:25:45Gave up one hit. Four runs were charged to him.
- 2:25:52Braggs and Hawkins have stopped the Yankees. The pitch to Bobby is in their fourth strike.
- 2:25:57Richardson lying to left. Single to right. Grounded to short.
- 2:26:01And...bunnyed in the safe on an error by the catcher, Romano.
- 2:26:07Hawkins deliberate. Curve ball over. Strike two. Nothing in two.
- 2:26:18No balls, two strikes. Hawkins pitch is in the dirt, bounces by the catcher.
- 2:26:35One ball, two strikes.
- 2:26:41Hawkins pitch. Richardson swings and chops it high to third.
- 2:26:45One handed by Power throws the first in time.
- 2:26:49And the offense you just tuned in. Power switched from first to third.
- 2:26:54Last inning, Bob Hale having pinched it for the third base from Bob Phillips and remained in the game and went to first base.
- 2:27:02Johnny Gabler comes up for his first time at bat.
- 2:27:0710-6 New York hits the ninth inning.
- 2:27:23Hawkins delivers a fast ball outside. Ball one.
- 2:27:29One ball, no strikes. And the one-nothing pitch.
- 2:27:38Swung on and fouled off to the left of the plate out of play.
- 2:27:46One and one.
- 2:28:01The one-one pitches. Ball two inside. Two and one.
- 2:28:15Nothing like an evening out in the damp air for a summer cold.
- 2:28:20How's yours, Bambi?
- 2:28:25Two balls, one strike.
- 2:28:29And the pitch. Swung on and popped foul off third. Roman on power after Dan. Power will get it.
- 2:28:34Next to catch. He made that catch with two hands.
- 2:28:47Two away in the ninth inning.
- 2:28:55Tony Kubek steps up, grounded a second, hit two homers in the third and fourth innings.
- 2:29:01Sacrifice and single. He's driven in five runs.
- 2:29:06Hawkins pitches, fast ball over four strikes.
- 2:29:19The one strike delivery. Curveball is bounced down to first to Bob Hale.
- 2:29:23He takes it, tosses to the pitcher covering in time and the side's retired.
- 2:29:28No runs, no hits, no errors, no one left off.
- 2:29:32When Hawkins came in and retired six Yankees in a row.
- 2:29:36In fact, with Friggs having come in and the seventh nobody out, nine Yankees in a row have been retired.
- 2:29:45All in two of the outs in the seventh.
- 2:29:50A run scored on a sacrifice drive by Mato.
- 2:29:56So what's the end of eight and a half innings?
- 2:29:58It's 10-6 New York. The Indians will have held Hale.
- 2:30:02And if it hadn't traded Carol Hardy off, you'd have had Hale and Hardy coming up at it.
- 2:30:09Sorry. Why don't you have some Valentine?
- 2:30:13Hell, that'll be good.
- 2:30:15You know on the lighter side of the sport, there's a golfer played 100 degrees.
- 2:30:18He hit a ball, traveled all of 75 yards before it exploded in midair and started to grass fire.
- 2:30:23Man, it was dry.
- 2:30:25Now there was a famous university that set a new high on the care of its athletes.
- 2:30:29It ensured the thumb of each member of its tiddlywinks team for $700.
- 2:30:33Got a hand it to them.
- 2:30:35Now let's turn from the lighter side of sports to the lighter side of beer.
- 2:30:39Valentine. Valentine is the light beer with true lago flavor.
- 2:30:43Lightness and lago beer flavor. Two good reasons why Valentine refreshes you like nothing else can.
- 2:30:50Refresh with a crisp refresher.
- 2:30:56Woody Hale.
- 2:30:58Swing to the left, line to center, walk twice, leads off in the last of the line.
- 2:31:03Gabers pitch, swung on and bowled off the foot of Hale.
- 2:31:09One strike.
- 2:31:14Duran Moss working out.
- 2:31:27Gary Bell and Ted Postfield loosening up for Cleveland.
- 2:31:35Able of the wind up and the pitch is inside for a ball, one-in-one.
- 2:31:51The one-in-one delivery to Hale, swung on and bowled off toward the Yankee dugout. Strike two, one and two.
- 2:32:03The last of the nine thinning.
- 2:32:09Aisley, Baltimore five, nothing end of three and Chicago beat Boston two to one.
- 2:32:14Detroit leading Washington four to nothing end of seven. Here's the pitch, swung on and missed. Strike three.
- 2:32:20Woody Hale strikes out.
- 2:32:24One down to the nine thinning and here is Bob Hale.
- 2:32:27He batted for Phillips in the seventh and remained in the game.
- 2:32:35Struck out in the seventh inning.
- 2:32:44The pitch is swung on and grabbed on one hop, tagged out by Gabler.
- 2:32:51Here's a thing that managers normally tell him not to do. He took the ball and one hop and waited for the runner to come by and tagged him.
- 2:32:59And not only that, but Hale let him tag him. Usually he's not knocked the ball away from him.
- 2:33:07Now we're going to have a pinch hitter for Hawkins, Chuck Tanner.
- 2:33:14Chuck Tanner hits for Wynn Hawkins.
- 2:33:19Gabler unassisted. Tanner left hand batter. The pitch swung on, a bouncer hit off to second.
- 2:33:25Hale hopped, grabbed by Richardson close to Hadley and the ball game is over.
- 2:33:31You could have seen that one. Bobby leaps in the air almost pirouetted as that ball took a high hop and was almost the base hit.
- 2:33:41No runs, no hits, no errors, no one left on. And the Yankees won it by a score of ten to six.
- 2:33:48The Yankees ten runs, ten hits, two errors, the Indians six runs, nine hits and three errors.
- 2:33:53We'll recap it for you very quickly. After you enjoy the Chris Professor Ballantine beer, we're going to in a little bit.
- 2:34:00The light beer with true log of flavor. That's Ballantine.
- 2:34:06The Yankees got away to a five run lead with one run in the third inning on 2-becks Homer.
- 2:34:13And in the fourth inning on a single by Richardson, Coach Double, which got Richardson home and 2-becks two run Homer.
- 2:34:24And then in the, that was all off Jim Perry. Perry went out and locked him in in the fifth inning and Hadley homered off of him.
- 2:34:32But Coach was gotten to in the fifth inning for five runs by the Indians on a single that started it by Phillips.
- 2:34:42He was forced to second by Locke. Then came a safe front by Temple, a single by Piersol for a run.
- 2:34:49He singled in two, we'll walk to Brancona and infield hit for power, got a run home.
- 2:34:57And there was five, five. And then the Yankees went ahead six to five in the sixth inning on a walk to Bobby Shantz, who had replaced Coates.
- 2:35:08A sacrifice by Kubeck and a single by Hexton Lopez. That made it six to five and then the Indians got a six run to the last of the six.
- 2:35:20When Temple walked, was sacrificed by Piersol, it was safe on an error by Boyer.
- 2:35:27Then James came in to relieve Shantz, team walked.
- 2:35:31Brancona then with the bases loaded, almost changed the game around when he hit the ball actually over the right center field screen.
- 2:35:38But Roger Maris made one of the great catches of the year to rob him of a grand slam homer and Temple scored after the catch and that was all the Indians scored in that inning or four of the night.
- 2:35:49Johnny Clipstein, who had relieved in the sixth inning with two outs and got Hadley out, walked Howard in the seventh.
- 2:35:57Boyer and Richardson both sacrificed and each went safe, one on a feeler's choice play, which the throw arrived too late.
- 2:36:04At second base from the pitcher and an error by the catcher and Richardson's punt, then Barra hit for Johnny James, who had relieved Shantz,
- 2:36:11and walked to force a run in. Kubeck, single, two more in and a sacrifice by Mantle got the fourth run in.
- 2:36:18So that's the way the runs were scored. Perry, Locke, Clipstein, Briggs and Hawkins working for the Indians.
- 2:36:24Coach Shantz, James and Gaber for New York with Gaber working the last three innings in handsome style.
- 2:36:30But James was the pitcher of record when the runs were scored, he gets the win. He has a record of four and oh, and Malousha's Clipstein a record of one and three.
- 2:36:43Well that winds up another Valentine baseball broadcast. Now this is Bob Zelini saying that's all for now from the Atlantic refining company and your friendly Atlantic dealer
- 2:36:52who offer you Atlantic Imperial gasoline to keep your car on the go.
