- 0:23Speaker 2: Greetings from Gillette's Stadium.
- 0:25Speaker 4: We are high above the practice fields here at training
- 0:29Speaker 4: camp and this is a special Patriots Unfiltered presented by
- 0:33Speaker 4: buy a Toyota dot Com. We're going to be covering
- 0:36Speaker 4: the first day of pads today. That's always a kind
- 0:41Speaker 4: of a milestone day in training camp. The first day,
- 0:44Speaker 4: Just like I said that, they put full pads on
- 0:47Speaker 4: and the physicality begins. So it's Mike Dussault, It's Paul Perillo,
- 0:52Speaker 4: it's a Evan Lazar, myself, Fred Kirsch, Matt Morel in
- 0:55Speaker 4: the booth, and a cast of thousands in the background
- 0:58Speaker 4: making this possible.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We'll be here for as long as they have.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Us, covering practice and talking about what we see. So, guys,
- 1:08Speaker 4: first day of pads, how is that different from everything
- 1:13Speaker 4: else we've seen so far?
- 1:15Speaker 5: Physicality, clearly is is the first part of it.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And listening to the players late last week, it sounded
- 1:20Speaker 3: like they're all anxious to get out there and actually
- 1:22Speaker 3: maybe hit a little bit. Key on White especially, seems
- 1:25Speaker 3: like he's looking forward today, hoping the offense runs a
- 1:27Speaker 3: lot on him, you know, seeing the practice plan. Get
- 1:30Speaker 3: ready going to start in the high red zone and
- 1:32Speaker 3: work your way right down onto the goal line there
- 1:34Speaker 3: at the end. So it should be a pretty physical practice,
- 1:37Speaker 3: a lot of hitting, a lot of you know, the
- 1:38Speaker 3: snap of the pads and the helmets as we like
- 1:41Speaker 3: to hear.
- 1:41Speaker 4: So last week we had Mike Onwenu on Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:45Speaker 4: and he was talking about, you know, when you're an
- 1:47Speaker 4: offensive lineman early in camp, you're not wearing pads, there's
- 1:52Speaker 4: nothing to grab on to. They know our cadence, so
- 1:56Speaker 4: it's not surprising that maybe the defensive lineman had a
- 2:00Speaker 4: little bit of advantage.
- 2:01Speaker 2: No excuses today.
- 2:02Speaker 3: That right, right, No, No, we'll see some one on
- 2:04Speaker 3: ones as well, which are always fun and maybe not
- 2:07Speaker 3: real football for you know, the poor defensive backs are
- 2:09Speaker 3: going to be stuck.
- 2:10Speaker 5: On an island.
- 2:11Speaker 3: But certainly the defensive line offensive line, those one on
- 2:14Speaker 3: one pass rush drills interested to see, you know a
- 2:17Speaker 3: little bit of the younger pass rushers. I'd say Evan
- 2:19Speaker 3: and I were talking last week after Saturday's practiced about
- 2:22Speaker 3: you know, Braydon Swinson as a guy that you know,
- 2:24Speaker 3: we've kind of wondered if he might be able to
- 2:26Speaker 3: carve oute a role so far kind of quiet. Haven't
- 2:28Speaker 3: seen a lot from him, but you know, nothing to
- 2:30Speaker 3: take away from the other guys who have been playing
- 2:32Speaker 3: on the edge. I think Harold Landry Keyon White, you know,
- 2:35Speaker 3: Chase on those guys have been really active. So that'll
- 2:37Speaker 3: be the exciting position groups to watch. Certainly Will Campbell today,
- 2:40Speaker 3: will get a look at him with Pats on it
- 2:41Speaker 3: and how he holds up.
- 2:42Speaker 4: So you're your two big guys going into camp was
- 2:44Speaker 4: Swinson and Pogan.
- 2:46Speaker 5: You're doing you're not doing too well? No, and you
- 2:48Speaker 5: big up Jalen Polk. They'll be great to you know,
- 2:50Speaker 5: see if he's able to get out here.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Not great that he missed the first four days of
- 2:54Speaker 3: practice trying to bounce back from that rookie season.
- 2:56Speaker 5: And it's a jam packed wide receiver room.
- 2:58Speaker 3: So the sooner he gets back to or his chances
- 3:00Speaker 3: are going to be to make this team.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Yeah, it'd be interesting to see if we get any
- 3:04Speaker 6: the injured guys back today. You know, you mentioned Polk,
- 3:07Speaker 6: but you know, you have the first off day on Sunday,
- 3:10Speaker 6: and you know sometimes after an off day you get
- 3:12Speaker 6: guys coming off lists and whatnot. So it'll be interesting
- 3:15Speaker 6: to see if any of those veterans are able to
- 3:17Speaker 6: make it back.
- 3:18Speaker 7: Yep, yeah, looking at you know, Mac Collins, even a
- 3:21Speaker 7: Vederian Lowe, Austin Hooper to another guy that you'd like
- 3:25Speaker 7: to see back here, not that he needs to catch
- 3:27Speaker 7: up on much, but just to have him out there.
- 3:29Speaker 7: And you know, I'll be the offensive line guy for
- 3:33Speaker 7: for the next week and a half with all the
- 3:35Speaker 7: pads on and everything. And look, I just will continue
- 3:38Speaker 7: to say to me that is the tipping point of
- 3:41Speaker 7: the season is whether or not they can get this
- 3:43Speaker 7: offensive line up and running. And Doug Maroon and Josh
- 3:46Speaker 7: McDaniels and Mike Rabel and the entire staff. Can they
- 3:49Speaker 7: get this line even just to average. If they can
- 3:52Speaker 7: do that, then I think the rest of the team
- 3:54Speaker 7: is going to be fine and they'll they'll find their
- 3:56Speaker 7: way and they'll be able to win some games. But
- 3:59Speaker 7: this offensive line line, can they block anybody up front?
- 4:01Speaker 7: Is going to make or break the season for the Patriots.
- 4:04Speaker 4: And it really is critical. It's hard to judge the offense.
- 4:08Speaker 4: If the offensive line isn't doing his part, you just
- 4:12Speaker 4: can't execute correctly.
- 4:14Speaker 7: Yeah, there's so much that goes into it, you know. Obviously,
- 4:16Speaker 7: the biggest thing to me is being able to have
- 4:19Speaker 7: some semblance of a run game. And when you have
- 4:21Speaker 7: a run game, it allows you to then play action
- 4:24Speaker 7: off the run game. It allows you to move the
- 4:26Speaker 7: pocket with Drake May you can scheme things that are
- 4:29Speaker 7: a little bit longer developing if you trust your offensive
- 4:32Speaker 7: line and feel like you can hold up with the
- 4:34Speaker 7: blocking and give Drake a chance back there For some
- 4:36Speaker 7: of those more disguised or scheme type of plays, when
- 4:40Speaker 7: you don't have an offensive line that can block, you
- 4:42Speaker 7: really have to focus on getting the ball out as
- 4:45Speaker 7: quickly as possible. And that's really all you can do
- 4:48Speaker 7: is try to get the football out as quickly out
- 4:51Speaker 7: of his hand as quickly as possible. So when you
- 4:52Speaker 7: have a line, you're able to do a whole lot
- 4:54Speaker 7: more Schematically.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I'm just going to say we've spent so much time
- 4:57Speaker 3: talking about the tackle position the last couple years.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Of course, we'll Campbell fourth overall pick.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Morgan Moses free agent signed even Marcus Bryant, who they
- 5:04Speaker 3: drafted has been brought in. But you know, I'm really
- 5:06Speaker 3: looking at the center and the left guard position now
- 5:08Speaker 3: a little closer. We start with Brad Berry. He's been
- 5:11Speaker 3: getting a lot of the lead off us, but Jared
- 5:13Speaker 3: Wilson's been getting in there pretty quick. He got some
- 5:15Speaker 3: expanded reps on Saturday, which shows that there is some
- 5:19Speaker 3: maybe uncertainty at the center position, and Cole Strange has
- 5:22Speaker 3: been the first guy at the left guard.
- 5:24Speaker 5: They have signed Wes Schweitzer in the offseason.
- 5:26Speaker 3: He you know, retired, so they had wanted maybe a
- 5:28Speaker 3: little bit more depth to consider along there. Tyree's Robinson,
- 5:32Speaker 3: a name that we saw a little bit more of
- 5:33Speaker 3: in the spring. He's been a little bit buried, you know.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Leyden Robinson some player that we thought had some promise.
- 5:39Speaker 3: We haven't seen much of him either yet. So for
- 5:42Speaker 3: as much attention as we put on the tackle position,
- 5:44Speaker 3: and rightly so it might even be now that the
- 5:47Speaker 3: biggest questions are at center and left guard.
- 5:49Speaker 7: Right, it's so much easier when you have that interior too,
- 5:51Speaker 7: because the tackles then then you can just do the
- 5:54Speaker 7: drive buys right, just push them around the corner and
- 5:56Speaker 7: push them past the quarterback and allow the quarterback to
- 5:59Speaker 7: just step up in the pocket. And if you have
- 6:01Speaker 7: that clean interior of the pocket and he can step up,
- 6:03Speaker 7: then it just makes your tackles jobs a whole lot
- 6:06Speaker 7: easier too, So it all kind of goes together. But
- 6:09Speaker 7: even looking at you know, you mentioned Ladon Robinson. Kden
- 6:12Speaker 7: Wallace is basically exclusively repped at guard yep in this
- 6:15Speaker 7: camp so far, so they don't really doesn't look like
- 6:18Speaker 7: they view him this This staff use him as a tackle.
- 6:20Speaker 7: So does he get in on the left guard competition?
- 6:23Speaker 7: And just Jared Wilson, is he had left guard? Is
- 6:26Speaker 7: he at center? You know, maybe they think their best
- 6:29Speaker 7: interior line is with him and Brad Berry both out there,
- 6:32Speaker 7: and you have Bradberry at center.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yeah, you mentioned Wilson, like we've seen him at guard
- 6:36Speaker 4: as well as center, so it's clear they're looking to
- 6:39Speaker 4: see can we get this guy in there?
- 6:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Well, and he also talked about after practice on Saturday,
- 6:46Speaker 6: just you know, anytime you play offensive line, if you
- 6:49Speaker 6: play one of the interior spots, you need to be
- 6:51Speaker 6: able to play all three of those spots. Yeah, that's
- 6:53Speaker 6: just comes with the territory. He talked about doing some
- 6:57Speaker 6: training in the off season at guard specifically, so I
- 7:01Speaker 6: would expect him to be a candidate to play any
- 7:03Speaker 6: of those three spots.
- 7:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Also to just a housekeeping bit, seems like the cold
- 7:07Speaker 3: Strange to Center experiment is over.
- 7:09Speaker 5: We haven't really seen him there. He worked in.
- 7:11Speaker 3: There a little bit last year, and we thought maybe
- 7:13Speaker 3: this offseason that he'd be in the mix, not competition.
- 7:15Speaker 5: So far it doesn't seem like he does.
- 7:17Speaker 4: That mean he has left guard nailed down? I mean, yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 4: left guard.
- 7:21Speaker 5: That's exclusively where we've seen him, and.
- 7:24Speaker 7: He's got the inside track. Yeah, I don't know if
- 7:26Speaker 7: he hasn't. He's the current leader in the clubhouse in
- 7:30Speaker 7: that competition, and I think it's his job to lose.
- 7:33Speaker 9: But now here.
- 7:34Speaker 7: Comes the real stuff, right, you know, here comes the
- 7:35Speaker 7: real evaluation period. And like you said earlier, Fred Bradbury
- 7:40Speaker 7: and Wilson are both out there. Like Wilson, it seems
- 7:42Speaker 7: like they want to get him involved. So is your
- 7:45Speaker 7: best line from just an upside or a ceiling perspective? Campbell, Wilson,
- 7:49Speaker 7: Bradbury on when New Moses and then all that's your
- 7:52Speaker 7: best five and with Jared Wilson playing left guard. I
- 7:56Speaker 7: could see that on paper being the best group that
- 7:58Speaker 7: they have, and maybe that means cold, strange and odd
- 8:01Speaker 7: man out there.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yep.
- 8:03Speaker 4: All right, So even though it's the first day of pads,
- 8:05Speaker 4: that doesn't mean they'll be one hundred percent hitting at
- 8:08Speaker 4: least tackling. They'll probably not be bringing guys down to
- 8:12Speaker 4: the ground at this point, so it'll be I guess
- 8:16Speaker 4: they call it some some programs they call it fudding.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yes, you know, yeah, well.
- 8:20Speaker 3: There should be some thunding, like I said, And they're
- 8:22Speaker 3: gonna start out in their first eleven on eleven period
- 8:25Speaker 3: up on the like thirty five high red zone and
- 8:27Speaker 3: then they're gonna work their way right down in the
- 8:29Speaker 3: three yard line for those final few reps. So the
- 8:31Speaker 3: end of today we'll wrap up with some goal line reps.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Those are always good competition. Who's going to win the day?
- 8:37Speaker 3: You know, they'll probably be one or two reps who
- 8:39Speaker 3: are all right, this is it, they're down.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Who's going to make it. So it's not only just
- 8:43Speaker 5: the pads.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I think this brings out the competitiveness overall and a
- 8:46Speaker 3: lot of these guys, and like Mike Rabel said, last week.
- 8:48Speaker 3: There's always a player or two that, once the pads
- 8:51Speaker 3: come on, their contact balance their aggressiveness, it allows them
- 8:55Speaker 3: maybe to show up a little bit more than they
- 8:57Speaker 3: might have in these early.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Days when it's so much on the mental part of
- 8:59Speaker 5: the game.
- 8:59Speaker 7: Yep, I'm curious with those sorry, with those low red
- 9:03Speaker 7: zone stuff, how much has Drake involved running in those periods,
- 9:07Speaker 7: because I think there's a chance in that he is
- 9:10Speaker 7: and playing eleven on eleven down there and using him
- 9:13Speaker 7: on the goal line on zone reads or keepers or
- 9:16Speaker 7: whatever the case may be, could be a real advantage
- 9:19Speaker 7: for them, you know, in terms of punching the ball
- 9:21Speaker 7: in once they get down there. So I'd like to
- 9:23Speaker 7: see him keep it once or twice and watch him
- 9:26Speaker 7: go around the edge.
- 9:27Speaker 9: But we'll see how much do they do that right
- 9:29Speaker 9: out of the gate, Which just me just.
- 9:30Speaker 5: To piggyback off that.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Because Drake's mobility is such a talking point for us,
- 9:34Speaker 3: we talk a lot about it, but you know, people say, hey,
- 9:36Speaker 3: we want Josh McDaniels with a mobile quarterback, and I
- 9:38Speaker 3: think Evan just nailed it. That's where you want to
- 9:41Speaker 3: see Drake used. It's less chance he's going to take
- 9:43Speaker 3: a big hit. We're not talking in the middle of
- 9:44Speaker 3: the field the standard offense. Let's you know, try to
- 9:46Speaker 3: run that kind of stuff. Let's get right into, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 3: in the red zone where he can make le.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Is stepping to the podium in a few seconds. So
- 9:54Speaker 4: when he does, we're going to go to him live
- 9:57Speaker 4: so you can hear what he has to say.
- 10:00Speaker 2: He said he's excited about the first day of pads.
- 10:03Speaker 5: Sure on't a player, right, I'm sure this is is fair?
- 10:05Speaker 5: How what they got to do pretty quick? Though? Back
- 10:07Speaker 5: in the old day, right like by Saturday, I think
- 10:09Speaker 5: was usually like.
- 10:10Speaker 9: The period and there used to be in pats the
- 10:13Speaker 9: first day.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Yeah, back back in my day, they're in pads in
- 10:15Speaker 6: May in the first day of training camp was full
- 10:18Speaker 6: pat is.
- 10:19Speaker 7: Mike Rabel, you were a rookie with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 10:25Speaker 8: I believe in your first padded practice you might have
- 10:28Speaker 8: gotten into a fight.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Should I assume that you don't want your rookies doing that.
- 10:34Speaker 8: I don't want any of us doing that. It's a
- 10:37Speaker 8: long time ago, Karen. Can you give a little details, No, Okay,
- 10:44Speaker 8: you're going to follow up.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Have the players been told that they.
- 10:47Speaker 8: Of course, I mean we don't.
- 10:49Speaker 10: I mean we want to be able to practice the
- 10:51Speaker 10: same way we have to play, which is physical and
- 10:54Speaker 10: within the rules. And I have a great play demeanor,
- 10:58Speaker 10: finished through the whistle and all those things. And you
- 11:00Speaker 10: know if you throw a punch or you get kicked
- 11:02Speaker 10: out of the game, which is going to cross the team.
- 11:05Speaker 10: So I don't anticipate any of that. I want us
- 11:07Speaker 10: to celebrate with our team and with the defensive unit,
- 11:10Speaker 10: celebrate with each other. Offensive unit, get excited and celebrate
- 11:14Speaker 10: with each other. Now get into the taunting and the
- 11:17Speaker 10: things that we would you know that we can't have
- 11:20Speaker 10: during the game.
- 11:21Speaker 7: Did you at least win?
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think I did.
- 11:25Speaker 8: It's it's a good story about.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Don't use the fight.
- 11:30Speaker 8: But the about a veteran player.
- 11:33Speaker 10: Greg Lloyd was a very dominant player, imposing figure. And
- 11:39Speaker 10: I got drafted in April and he didn't say a
- 11:41Speaker 10: word to me. Throw OTAs and I'm on the defense,
- 11:44Speaker 10: mind you, So I didn't say a word to me.
- 11:48Speaker 8: The entire offseason. We go to training camp.
- 11:52Speaker 10: You know, there's a fight with me and a tight
- 11:54Speaker 10: end and I'm exhausted.
- 11:57Speaker 8: After practice and I see this like shadow come over me.
- 12:00Speaker 8: I'm sitting in the locker room and he's like in
- 12:02Speaker 8: his deep.
- 12:03Speaker 10: Voice and he's like, yeah, the next time you want
- 12:04Speaker 10: to come up underneath.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The face mask.
- 12:06Speaker 8: And I was like, you just now are going to
- 12:09Speaker 8: talk to me. He's like, yeah, I just wanted to
- 12:10Speaker 8: make sure you weren't like a punk and then then
- 12:12Speaker 8: I would talk to you.
- 12:13Speaker 10: So it's a good example of just a veteran making
- 12:15Speaker 10: sure that, you know, rookies kind of earned their stripes.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I guess a little bit.
- 12:19Speaker 7: But you felt with the foundation field, you can't so
- 12:23Speaker 7: far to get to the point of times.
- 12:25Speaker 10: Yeah, I think so, you know this will be you know,
- 12:28Speaker 10: truthfold will be down in the red zone. We'll be
- 12:29Speaker 10: getting a lot of work in the red zone. Things
- 12:31Speaker 10: happen a lot quicker down there. Uh, tighter windows, just
- 12:36Speaker 10: the speed of everything.
- 12:37Speaker 8: It could just get sped up.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And so that'll.
- 12:40Speaker 10: Be good for us to move on to that situation
- 12:42Speaker 10: as well as to see how we you know, start
- 12:44Speaker 10: to practice in pads and our pad level, our fundamentals,
- 12:48Speaker 10: our hands and those types of things.
- 12:51Speaker 11: Mike, as you share that story and talk about the
- 12:52Speaker 11: guy not talking to you for a couple of months
- 12:55Speaker 11: while you're together, do you feel like it's different in
- 12:57Speaker 11: the NFL or with this specific team.
- 12:59Speaker 10: Now think that that was a Greg that was a
- 13:01Speaker 10: Greg Lloyd type of thing. I mean, I think that's
- 13:04Speaker 10: that was certainly his personality. I think that there's you know,
- 13:09Speaker 10: you're always trying to you know, prove yourself to to
- 13:13Speaker 10: your teammates, especially as.
- 13:14Speaker 2: A young player.
- 13:15Speaker 10: And Greg probably took it a little to to to extreme.
- 13:19Speaker 12: Right after all these OTAs in the first four days
- 13:21Speaker 12: without pad your your excitement level today maybe on a
- 13:23Speaker 12: scale from one to ten.
- 13:27Speaker 10: I just think coming off of a day off, I
- 13:28Speaker 10: think this is just another step and in our program.
- 13:33Speaker 10: So I try to come out here with the same
- 13:35Speaker 10: excitement and give him everything I got and and help them.
- 13:40Speaker 10: So this is just another important step throughout the process
- 13:44Speaker 10: of preparation.
- 13:47Speaker 8: Go ahead, don't you what's it going to come to.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Williams back out there with the team defense?
- 13:53Speaker 10: Well, you know, he has an energy to him, There's
- 13:56Speaker 10: there's you know, the players are you know, they spawn
- 14:00Speaker 10: well to him. And when he you know, he has
- 14:03Speaker 10: his clips that he shows them and the things that
- 14:05Speaker 10: he thinks are important as a coordinator. You know, I
- 14:09Speaker 10: think that they're believing in what we want to do
- 14:11Speaker 10: in our style of play, and so just keep moving ahead.
- 14:16Speaker 10: And but it's it's great to have him back, just
- 14:18Speaker 10: his personality and demeanor.
- 14:19Speaker 9: Mike, if you were in our shoes, what would you think,
- 14:22Speaker 9: you'd say? You know, you guys should really watch this.
- 14:25Speaker 2: You've been doing this for a long time. You know
- 14:27Speaker 2: how long?
- 14:27Speaker 8: I mean if I was the part of the media. Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 8: if you would, like say, you don't think there's ever
- 14:31Speaker 8: a scenario where that would happen.
- 14:32Speaker 9: Oh, that's absolutely a matter of time.
- 14:34Speaker 2: He already did stuff with Felger fifteen years ago.
- 14:37Speaker 13: As soon as I'm done with this, I'm gonna be
- 14:39Speaker 13: in the witness protection point and you want to you
- 14:41Speaker 13: will never find me. All right, Well, if you decide
- 14:44Speaker 13: you would help us, I mean I just think that
- 14:45Speaker 13: how maybe some of these uh.
- 14:49Speaker 8: You know, to me, it's it's it's critical at a
- 14:51Speaker 8: lot of scrimmage, right.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Just being able.
- 14:53Speaker 10: To make contact.
- 14:55Speaker 8: There's going to be a stealmate.
- 14:56Speaker 10: There's two professional players lined up across from me each other,
- 15:00Speaker 10: who can re engage, who can reset their feet, maybe
- 15:04Speaker 10: get a little extra movement. You know, how do we
- 15:09Speaker 10: play out? Do we stand our feet? Can we practice
- 15:11Speaker 10: like this and stand our feet. We got a bunch
- 15:13Speaker 10: of guys falling on the ground. I'd rather not see that.
- 15:16Speaker 10: I just don't think that that good teams end up
- 15:19Speaker 10: practicing that way. And again, just the urgency in which
- 15:24Speaker 10: we move around practice that there's we're in and out
- 15:26Speaker 10: of the huddle, the players are running on and off
- 15:28Speaker 10: the field. Those are all things that I think are critical.
- 15:31Speaker 10: I think that translates to the field, to the game.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Excuse me right where you know?
- 15:35Speaker 10: You don't you're not standing ten yards behind the ball,
- 15:38Speaker 10: You're coming from the sideline, and we're communicating the personnel
- 15:42Speaker 10: and the quarterback has to echo that.
- 15:45Speaker 8: Those are the types of things right now that we're
- 15:47Speaker 8: trying to build up.
- 15:49Speaker 2: The list to be having a pretty strong camp.
- 15:51Speaker 5: So what have you seen from him when you have
- 15:52Speaker 5: you learned about him with this offseason?
- 15:54Speaker 8: Right?
- 15:55Speaker 10: Great energy, great demeanor, very coachable, one of our offseason
- 16:00Speaker 10: award winners. So we obviously worked extremely hard.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Was what was.
- 16:04Speaker 10: Here every day? Uh, ready to learn, ready to you know,
- 16:10Speaker 10: earn a role? And I love being around Pop. He's
- 16:12Speaker 10: got a great, great energy and has got a lot
- 16:14Speaker 10: of respect from everybody around here.
- 16:17Speaker 9: Some one on one that passors result a little bit
- 16:19Speaker 9: the other day.
- 16:19Speaker 4: How much of that period is for experimentation with new
- 16:23Speaker 4: moves or techniques versus the evaluation where guys are really
- 16:26Speaker 4: obviously trying to win every rep.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I.
- 16:31Speaker 8: Watch it a little bit.
- 16:31Speaker 10: I do think that that's probably a great question. One
- 16:34Speaker 10: of the players I coached in Houston, Whitney Merciless. You know,
- 16:37Speaker 10: we went through some developmental things with him. He was
- 16:39Speaker 10: a very talented player. One thing I always respected about
- 16:43Speaker 10: Whitney was his willingness to try new moves during practice,
- 16:47Speaker 10: and you know, some of them wouldn't work, some of.
- 16:50Speaker 8: Them were he needed to see at full speed.
- 16:53Speaker 10: For him to say, you know, that's not something that
- 16:55Speaker 10: I'm going to commit a lot of time to. And
- 16:56Speaker 10: then others that you know, worked, and then he would
- 16:58Speaker 10: commit time to. So that's exactly why you do practice,
- 17:02Speaker 10: is so that you can, you know, sometimes figure out
- 17:04Speaker 10: what doesn't work, and you can eliminate some things and
- 17:07Speaker 10: you can move on.
- 17:08Speaker 8: Especially as a pass rusher.
- 17:09Speaker 10: Right, you're trying to have a couple of different pitches,
- 17:11Speaker 10: not too many, but I certainly need some a fastball
- 17:15Speaker 10: and some off speed pitches and some counters. So this
- 17:19Speaker 10: is why we practice is to be able to go
- 17:20Speaker 10: out there and do that. And I understand, you know
- 17:23Speaker 10: a lot of those things, and you know when you
- 17:25Speaker 10: get to the team periods and you get to the
- 17:27Speaker 10: games and you can see how guys pass rush. But
- 17:30Speaker 10: you know, I think that's obviously a good thing. The
- 17:33Speaker 10: offensive linemen are going to work on different techniques and
- 17:35Speaker 10: things like that, so they're not doing the same thing
- 17:37Speaker 10: every single snap.
- 17:41Speaker 12: Displayed a real level of consistency over the course it
- 17:43Speaker 12: was three four years here in New England. What is
- 17:45Speaker 12: it from your standpoint that that's allowed him to have
- 17:48Speaker 12: that level of consistence.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, very very.
- 17:52Speaker 10: Very comfortable player. I would very similar to Kevin Byron.
- 17:56Speaker 10: And you know, I'm not big on comparisons and just
- 18:00Speaker 10: talking about personalities, right, Like, Kevin was really confident and comfortable.
- 18:04Speaker 8: He never looked stressed.
- 18:06Speaker 10: And you would look and see some younger players maybe
- 18:09Speaker 10: at the same position, and they would, I mean they'd be.
- 18:11Speaker 8: Sweating before the players start.
- 18:12Speaker 10: They were making checks and everything else and running and
- 18:15Speaker 10: Kevin just always had a very calm, confident demeanor and
- 18:20Speaker 10: was an excellent player for us. And I feel the
- 18:23Speaker 10: same about Hunter. I think that he's anything that you
- 18:27Speaker 10: ask him to do. It comes very easy, and he's
- 18:29Speaker 10: very instinctive. Uh, and he's got a good feel for
- 18:32Speaker 10: the game. So yeah, that's that's all. Those are all positives,
- 18:36Speaker 10: and I think that that leads to his consistency.
- 18:39Speaker 14: Might get back to those one on one situations with
- 18:42Speaker 14: the guys on the line.
- 18:44Speaker 8: What are you hoping to see from from Will Campbell today?
- 18:46Speaker 8: What you know, what would you need to see to
- 18:48Speaker 8: look back on the table and we'd.
- 18:49Speaker 10: Go for every one of our offensive linemen is that
- 18:52Speaker 10: we're getting into the line of scrimmage when we're running it,
- 18:55Speaker 10: we're standing inside out when we throw it. You know,
- 18:59Speaker 10: it's going to be the same for every offensive lineman
- 19:02Speaker 10: that we have. You asked me a question about Mill Williams.
- 19:04Speaker 10: I'm going to tell you the same thing for every
- 19:06Speaker 10: defensive lineman. You know, we're going to coach.
- 19:07Speaker 8: Them all the same.
- 19:10Speaker 10: And continue to do what we've been doing here the
- 19:12Speaker 10: first couple of days, Mike.
- 19:13Speaker 12: When we talked to the guys to the offense here,
- 19:16Speaker 12: players and coaches, very few of them have experience in
- 19:19Speaker 12: Josh McDaniels playing for him and his offense. What's that
- 19:22Speaker 12: like having kind of a whole team learning the offense
- 19:25Speaker 12: and system together.
- 19:26Speaker 10: Lost people to stay engaged, and there's modifications that we
- 19:29Speaker 10: make and you know we'll do that defensively and offensively.
- 19:32Speaker 10: It put something in and then and then you always
- 19:34Speaker 10: have the ability to adjust it. And you know, Josh's
- 19:38Speaker 10: working well and they're all working well together offensively about
- 19:41Speaker 10: how we want to get things done. Yeah, and that's
- 19:45Speaker 10: I think when when something's new, you put a little
- 19:48Speaker 10: bit more time into it just so that you can
- 19:50Speaker 10: kind of get the details and you don't maybe take
- 19:52Speaker 10: things for granted.
- 19:53Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 19:56Speaker 2: All right. That's Mike Rabel up at the podium.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Was going to talk about his fight when he was
- 20:02Speaker 4: a rookie, but he talked a little bit about it
- 20:05Speaker 4: at least the Greg Lloyd put, you know, shocker that
- 20:08Speaker 4: Mike Vrabel kind of told fight his woki here.
- 20:10Speaker 6: So that's a story that he told on our show
- 20:12Speaker 6: on Patriots All Access, you know, with his sit down
- 20:15Speaker 6: interview with Scott Zolac that aired on Friday night, And yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 6: he was it was out of nowhere.
- 20:22Speaker 9: He just sort of.
- 20:22Speaker 6: Talked about getting to a little scrap with a one
- 20:25Speaker 6: of the tight ends and that was what led Greg
- 20:29Speaker 6: Lloyd to finally sort of say, Okay, this guy's worth
- 20:31Speaker 6: investing in, right, and he started to offer some tips
- 20:35Speaker 6: to Mike come.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Up under the You know, so, Greg, I'm not surprised, like,
- 20:40Speaker 4: actually hurt your teammate sounds like an under a Tippett
- 20:43Speaker 4: story to me.
- 20:43Speaker 5: That's that's something Tip would do.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Well.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Tip would do a like sweep. The guy would be
- 20:48Speaker 4: down on the ground in like two seconds. Yeah, okay,
- 20:53Speaker 4: anything else you gleaned out of that.
- 20:55Speaker 7: Just a little bit about Pop Douglas. I know that
- 20:59Speaker 7: those off season war we tend to hand out quite
- 21:01Speaker 7: a few of those sometimes, but he's been somebody that
- 21:05Speaker 7: you know the question I think is Mark Daniels who
- 21:06Speaker 7: asked the question. He has definitely stood out the first
- 21:09Speaker 7: four days of practice, and it's not surprising to hear
- 21:12Speaker 7: that he was an active participating in the off season
- 21:15Speaker 7: because he's having a great start to camp. So just
- 21:19Speaker 7: hearing that and kind of, you know, cementing that the
- 21:23Speaker 7: team is also pretty pleased with where Pop Douglas is,
- 21:26Speaker 7: I think is good to hear.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Yeah, he is.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I would say of all the receivers not named Diggs, yeah,
- 21:34Speaker 4: he stood out the most.
- 21:35Speaker 6: He's been the best receiver period, including digs. Yeah, I
- 21:38Speaker 6: agree with everything Evan just said. We talked about it
- 21:41Speaker 6: on our podcast after practice on Saturday. I think he's
- 21:43Speaker 6: been active in every practice, not just with a little
- 21:46Speaker 6: shallow crosses like add or around the line of scrimmage.
- 21:49Speaker 6: He's found some soft spots and zones. I think that
- 21:52Speaker 6: particular part of it is important for Josh McDaniels because
- 21:55Speaker 6: one of the things that we always hear about is
- 21:57Speaker 6: how slot receiver friendly it is with.
- 21:59Speaker 9: Josh mc daniels.
- 22:01Speaker 6: And I think what Douglas has shown a little bit,
- 22:04Speaker 6: probably as a result of his offseason work, is a
- 22:07Speaker 6: better understanding at the start of camp of the McDaniels
- 22:10Speaker 6: offense than well what I think a lot.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Of other people will weap it now he's been able,
- 22:15Speaker 4: Now he's going to be able to use.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Is That's what I get for trying to give a
- 22:19Speaker 6: serious piece of analysis.
- 22:22Speaker 7: I remember last year Alex van Pelt talking about the
- 22:25Speaker 7: fact that his offense really didn't feature the slot and
- 22:29Speaker 7: that when they had Pop Douglas and he was like, well,
- 22:32Speaker 7: we got to find a way, you know, to morph
- 22:34Speaker 7: this offense him.
- 22:35Speaker 9: Well, this offense with Josh McDaniels.
- 22:37Speaker 7: We know features the slot and we know he's going
- 22:39Speaker 7: to be a big part of it. So the fact
- 22:41Speaker 7: that he's picking up some of the minutias that Paul
- 22:43Speaker 7: was talking about, I think it is a really good sign.
- 22:45Speaker 7: I mean, even the touchdown that he caught from Drake
- 22:48Speaker 7: on Saturday, the big play at camp so far. Having
- 22:51Speaker 7: those instincts to play playground football and take off deep
- 22:54Speaker 7: and get yourself open behind the defense there and finish
- 22:57Speaker 7: that play is also a good sign, just between the
- 23:00Speaker 7: chemistry between those two guys, So that all good stuff.
- 23:03Speaker 4: I know it's way too early to figure this out,
- 23:06Speaker 4: but let's just say that Douglas is able to establish
- 23:10Speaker 4: himself as a slot receiver of this team. How does
- 23:13Speaker 4: that affect Diggs? Because a lot of lately, a lot
- 23:16Speaker 4: of his production has come underneath it hasn't, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 4: It's been a shorter pass. So what does that do
- 23:23Speaker 4: to the spacing and what you do with Diggs if
- 23:26Speaker 4: now you do have a true slot receiver.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I just think Diggs is still your every down, go
- 23:31Speaker 3: to guy, regardless situation. And I think Pop will benefit
- 23:36Speaker 3: from having a guy like Diggs, and maybe that's what
- 23:38Speaker 3: we're seeing a little bit of him causing the defense.
- 23:42Speaker 5: To need to put a little bit more attention on
- 23:43Speaker 5: that player.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Still, I think Pop is a really dynamic, talented player,
- 23:47Speaker 3: especially in man coverage, So you got to feel really
- 23:49Speaker 3: good about if he does just come off the bench
- 23:51Speaker 3: for third downs when you got to have it those
- 23:53Speaker 3: kind of moments to.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Give you a little bit of a boost.
- 23:56Speaker 3: But you know, it's really primarily been Booty, Digs and
- 23:59Speaker 3: and Pop in the slot, and that's been the primari
- 24:02Speaker 3: top three. And they're probably going to play a lot
- 24:04Speaker 3: of eleven personnel, especially with Louston Hooper out that affects
- 24:07Speaker 3: a little bit right now.
- 24:08Speaker 5: Of how they use their packages.
- 24:10Speaker 3: So you might be getting a little bit of an
- 24:12Speaker 3: outside view of popped up this right now.
- 24:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I really like the idea of those two guys together,
- 24:16Speaker 7: honestly because you know, not to get in in the alphabet,
- 24:19Speaker 7: but like if Digs is your Z right and he's
- 24:22Speaker 7: sort of your move piece and he's the guy that's
- 24:24Speaker 7: you know, off the line of scrimmage and moving around
- 24:26Speaker 7: and then Pops in the slot, like you kind of
- 24:28Speaker 7: have a first and second level of your of your
- 24:31Speaker 7: passing game there where you know, sometimes it might be
- 24:33Speaker 7: Pop going to the second level and digs going underneath,
- 24:36Speaker 7: and then it'll be digs going deeper and Pop going underneath,
- 24:39Speaker 7: and similar to maybe what we saw with like Edelman
- 24:42Speaker 7: and Amondola right like number one, something like that, you know,
- 24:45Speaker 7: and I think that that actually they can play off
- 24:47Speaker 7: of each other really well. The question that I would
- 24:50Speaker 7: have is who's going to be the base receivers because
- 24:53Speaker 7: Pop is not going to play in like heavier packages
- 24:56Speaker 7: on first down and run situations soon twelve personnel twenty
- 24:59Speaker 7: one one personnel, So that's going to be Booty or
- 25:03Speaker 7: it's going to be a Javon Baker maybe, or it's
- 25:05Speaker 7: going to be a.
- 25:06Speaker 9: Matt Collins, you know, someone like that.
- 25:08Speaker 7: It's not going to be Pop because Pop's really going
- 25:10Speaker 7: to be your third receiver, your slot in those eleven
- 25:13Speaker 7: personnel sets.
- 25:14Speaker 2: So something move for deuce.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Because we saw Jalen Pope coming on the field with
- 25:18Speaker 4: a helmet in pads.
- 25:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I also saw Josh Minkin's obviously not as high
- 25:23Speaker 6: profile a player, but he was on NFI.
- 25:25Speaker 9: He's in uniform as well.
- 25:27Speaker 6: But yeah, I think sometimes after an early off day,
- 25:30Speaker 6: you see some guys come back so good to see.
- 25:33Speaker 6: You know, still time didn't miss that much of practice,
- 25:38Speaker 6: so there's still time.
- 25:38Speaker 9: For a polk to play. Case they still hope, Deuce,
- 25:41Speaker 9: still hope.
- 25:41Speaker 4: And you probably saw a helicopter taking off of the background.
- 25:44Speaker 4: I would assume that's the owner or one of the owners.
- 25:47Speaker 5: It wasn't mine.
- 25:49Speaker 2: No, I'm surprised he's leaving drop off.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Maybe just to drop off.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Could could have been just dropping them off.
- 25:56Speaker 15: Yeah, yeah, okay, plex Yeah, so if Pop is a
- 26:03Speaker 15: slot afton Chishm, is he uh relegated to the practice squad?
- 26:08Speaker 9: If that's the.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Case, Yeah, you know, it's it's funny you say that, right,
- 26:10Speaker 3: I mean, we talk about there's a lot of guys
- 26:13Speaker 3: in the depth chart. I just Watchingthton Chisholm, and I
- 26:16Speaker 3: haven't seen him. You know, he hasn't done a lot
- 26:18Speaker 3: obviously with the top offense at all, but he just
- 26:20Speaker 3: moves really well, and I think that's what's intriguing to
- 26:22Speaker 3: me about him. I don't know if that's enough to
- 26:25Speaker 3: truly tell you that this guy could could possibly play
- 26:27Speaker 3: in the league. But with the logjam at wide receiver,
- 26:30Speaker 3: it's really hard to see how he can get in
- 26:32Speaker 3: there and get opportunities. But when I just watch him
- 26:34Speaker 3: two drills, he just runs like he's got a good
- 26:38Speaker 3: tight stride.
- 26:39Speaker 5: He's quick. You can tell he understands, you know, how
- 26:42Speaker 5: to get open. So I we'll see.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I know it might take an injury for him to
- 26:45Speaker 3: get an opportunity, but I like the physical still set
- 26:47Speaker 3: with that guy.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Yeah, he's definitely efficient out there. There's not a lot
- 26:51Speaker 4: of wasted motion.
- 26:52Speaker 2: He's uh, he's not all over the place.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yep, good route runner, Yeah is he is?
- 26:58Speaker 7: He more like Edelman developmental track where he's sitting behind
- 27:03Speaker 7: a more veteran player and maybe it's popping this instance.
- 27:07Speaker 7: And so he's here, but it takes him, well a
- 27:11Speaker 7: couple of years or an injury or something like that
- 27:13Speaker 7: to get on the field.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Well check me on this.
- 27:15Speaker 4: But when Edelman got here his first year, there wasn't
- 27:18Speaker 4: a lot of talk a lot there wasn't a lot
- 27:20Speaker 4: of talk about, oh look at Edelman, you know, because
- 27:22Speaker 4: Welker was here and and you know, the focus was
- 27:25Speaker 4: on the established wide receivers.
- 27:28Speaker 2: But would you agree.
- 27:31Speaker 6: In the preseason, I think had a very slow start
- 27:33Speaker 6: to his first training camp. He was mishandling a lot
- 27:37Speaker 6: of punts and looked like he was having a hard
- 27:40Speaker 6: time playing a little bit too fast, needed to sort
- 27:43Speaker 6: of settle down. But Evan's right. On the first preseason game,
- 27:47Speaker 6: he made a huge splash and yeah, he never stopped. Yeah,
- 27:50Speaker 6: I think well.
- 27:52Speaker 4: In terms of receiver, though, it was a couple of
- 27:54Speaker 4: years before they said, okay, we got to start seeing
- 27:58Speaker 4: if he could beat out Welker.
- 28:00Speaker 9: Wasn't even wasn't even on barfase right like Danny A.
- 28:03Speaker 7: Mendola was kind of signed to really do it, and
- 28:06Speaker 7: an Edelman just unperformed a Mendola. But that I could
- 28:10Speaker 7: see that for Chisholm too, you know, whether it's an
- 28:13Speaker 7: injury or something like that that he's around, but he's
- 28:16Speaker 7: not there and he's kind of in that pipeline and
- 28:19Speaker 7: it's might take him a year or two to actually
- 28:21Speaker 7: start to get opportunities in games.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Does Chisholm contribute to special teams?
- 28:26Speaker 7: He can return punts. I don't know if he's as
- 28:29Speaker 7: straight line fast as Edelman was. Certainly didn't run as
- 28:32Speaker 7: fast as Edelman in the forty but that's not everything.
- 28:35Speaker 7: But he's quicker, you know, not the quicker than Edelman,
- 28:39Speaker 7: but he's quicker, not fast, and he's got a.
- 28:42Speaker 9: Nice little jump cut to his game after the catch.
- 28:44Speaker 9: But he doesn't pull away from a lot of guys.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Because you know, that's the way to establish yourself is
- 28:51Speaker 4: contribute on special teams.
- 28:52Speaker 2: If it's somebody at that level for sure.
- 28:54Speaker 3: That's I mean, that's why I said, it's just hard
- 28:55Speaker 3: to get opportunities right now. Right now, if you're Jalen
- 28:59Speaker 3: Polk or Avon Baker or even Kendrick Bourne to an extent,
- 29:02Speaker 3: you're you know, making the most out of every opportunity
- 29:05Speaker 3: you get because they're somewhat limited at this point. So
- 29:09Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne is an interesting guy to me. Is he
- 29:11Speaker 3: you know, does he have a fit? Josh has worked
- 29:13Speaker 3: with him before, talked about twenty one. He had a
- 29:15Speaker 3: good season, He was on pace for a really good
- 29:17Speaker 3: season a couple of seasons ago before he got hurt
- 29:20Speaker 3: last year coming back but still had some plays.
- 29:23Speaker 5: So he still see.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I think he's looked faster.
- 29:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's it's just born.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I think he's looked faster.
- 29:31Speaker 6: I think I think Bourn's quick. I think he's fast.
- 29:33Speaker 6: I think he's I would keep him. I mean, if
- 29:38Speaker 6: if we're talking I'm trying really hard not to do this.
- 29:41Speaker 6: If we're talking Efton Chisholm or Kendrick Bourne, I don't
- 29:43Speaker 6: really think that we're talking about the same thing.
- 29:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, well the same college.
- 29:48Speaker 6: You know, if you want to move on because you
- 29:49Speaker 6: think Borne is sort of not part of the long term,
- 29:52Speaker 6: then I'm fine with that.
- 29:53Speaker 9: But they're not in the same class.
- 29:56Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm glad that dude's mentioned Javon Baker because, like,
- 29:59Speaker 7: I feel his path to the roster is actually a
- 30:01Speaker 7: lot easier than like a Jalen Polks because they just
- 30:04Speaker 7: don't have a ton of outside guys, like they have
- 30:07Speaker 7: a ton of slots or zas or inside receivers. If
- 30:10Speaker 7: you're Jalen Polk, you're competing with Diggs, you're competing with Pop,
- 30:14Speaker 7: You're competing with Bourne, maybe even like Kyle Williams a
- 30:17Speaker 7: little bit, Like there's just a lot of that type,
- 30:20Speaker 7: that body type, whereas like Javon Baker is really only
- 30:23Speaker 7: competing with Kishon Boody.
- 30:25Speaker 9: That's really it.
- 30:26Speaker 7: And you know, obviously Matt Collins will be here. But
- 30:29Speaker 7: I don't think that they're taking reps away from younger
- 30:32Speaker 7: more like higher upside players for Mac Collins. So that's
- 30:36Speaker 7: the big thing to me is with it's the types
- 30:38Speaker 7: of receivers and like Javon Baker, if he can play
- 30:41Speaker 7: better than Kaishan Boody, then he could maybe make this team.
- 30:45Speaker 9: Like I was talking to Mike a little bit on Saturday.
- 30:48Speaker 6: We didn't mention it on the podcast, and not that
- 30:50Speaker 6: it was like this earth shattering great practice, but I
- 30:53Speaker 6: thought Baker showed up for the first.
- 30:54Speaker 9: Time on Saturday. We hadn't really seen much of him.
- 30:56Speaker 6: At all the first three days. I didn't think you
- 30:59Speaker 6: got targeted.
- 31:00Speaker 9: If at all.
- 31:01Speaker 6: But he made a couple of catches on Saturday, one
- 31:03Speaker 6: on a deep ball, one on a nice thought. He
- 31:06Speaker 6: ran a great route on a third down on an
- 31:07Speaker 6: out route to the far sideline. Looked very you know
- 31:11Speaker 6: my thing, you know, very Patriots like play execution was there,
- 31:15Speaker 6: and we haven't seen a lot of those plays with
- 31:16Speaker 6: ja Von Bakers. So yeah, maybe, you know, a little
- 31:20Speaker 6: bit of a slow start, Maybe he's coming on. We'll
- 31:21Speaker 6: see if this is something bigger to build on, or
- 31:24Speaker 6: if he's still in the background.
- 31:25Speaker 4: If you're wondering why you're looking at us and not
- 31:27Speaker 4: the field, there's only certain periods we're allowed to film.
- 31:31Speaker 4: The practice has broken up into periods, and I believe
- 31:33Speaker 4: today we're allowed to film periods three through six, So
- 31:38Speaker 4: I think they're on period one or two right now.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:40Speaker 6: Yeah, sort of they set up what they're going to
- 31:42Speaker 6: be doing at practice and they don't want that necessarily
- 31:45Speaker 6: on film.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Yeah, anything else.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Say, I've been chipping away at the tenants here so far,
- 31:50Speaker 3: I haven't really caught anything, any absences of note just yet, so.
- 31:54Speaker 6: I am not really even closet.
- 31:59Speaker 9: I can't really see.
- 32:00Speaker 3: You can't see like half the field, but you see,
- 32:02Speaker 3: I did catch more than Moses as well as Ramondre Stevenson,
- 32:05Speaker 3: who fed We pointed out on the on the post
- 32:07Speaker 3: game sorry the post practice camp cast. Never really seen
- 32:11Speaker 3: two guys come out to practice midway through kind of
- 32:13Speaker 3: do their own little warm up and then just hop
- 32:15Speaker 3: right into team drills, which is what Moses and Stevenson
- 32:17Speaker 3: did on Saturday.
- 32:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:18Speaker 7: I was hoping that somebody's gonna ask Verable about that,
- 32:20Speaker 7: not till I put them on the spot. But just
- 32:23Speaker 7: we don't know, like what, like, what what's the plan
- 32:26Speaker 7: there and what's the thought process there? Because I've never
- 32:28Speaker 7: seen that uh, two players that didn't stretched and do anything.
- 32:32Speaker 9: And then just middle of the practice they both showed up.
- 32:35Speaker 7: They did a little warm up, the two of them,
- 32:37Speaker 7: or Mare and Morgan Moses. The next thing I know,
- 32:39Speaker 7: I look up and they're in eleven on eleven Right.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Is Remondre dealing with anything?
- 32:43Speaker 9: Not that we know of.
- 32:44Speaker 3: But I mean, I don't think it's too much of
- 32:45Speaker 3: a stretch to look at those two players though, and say,
- 32:47Speaker 3: these are guys that you want to limit the amount of.
- 32:50Speaker 4: I'm just ware if they had like a little extra
- 32:52Speaker 4: it's possible training stuff downstairs. And then they came up
- 32:56Speaker 4: and kind of eased them themselves back ask questions.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Definitely possible.
- 33:01Speaker 3: I mean Moses has been on a little bit of
- 33:04Speaker 3: his own plan anyway, just with rotations and yeah, but
- 33:07Speaker 3: for the most part, every time there's a first team
- 33:09Speaker 3: rep and the drill starts off, he's in there right right, Yeah,
- 33:12Speaker 3: And I think we're.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Gonna see that throughout camp with him. You know, he's
- 33:15Speaker 4: thirty four. They want to preserve him. They don't want him,
- 33:20Speaker 4: you know, wearing out in the summer. They want him
- 33:24Speaker 4: ready for September.
- 33:25Speaker 3: So that's especially Matt Max Crosby waiting on September seventh
- 33:29Speaker 3: or whatever it is.
- 33:30Speaker 7: My eyes on Morgan Moses a little bit though, because
- 33:33Speaker 7: I do think just in general, it's just been a
- 33:35Speaker 7: little bit of a slower start to camp from him.
- 33:37Speaker 9: He hasn't really participated fully.
- 33:39Speaker 7: And look, we all penciled him in like as this
- 33:43Speaker 7: guy's going to be our right tackle.
- 33:44Speaker 9: No questions asked, and I still feel that way. But
- 33:47Speaker 9: he is thirty four. You know, he did come off
- 33:49Speaker 9: knee injury last year. They would it'd be nice to see.
- 33:53Speaker 7: Some reps from him and pads and see how what
- 33:56Speaker 7: he looks like at this point, because it hasn't always
- 33:59Speaker 7: been perfect.
- 34:00Speaker 2: And when it's not him, it's been Trey Jacobs right.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, and a little sprinkling of you know, Marcus
- 34:06Speaker 3: Bryant at left tackle as well.
- 34:09Speaker 5: Uh, you know, just getting some of those young guys reps.
- 34:11Speaker 5: I haven't spotted at Carlton Davis yet, but yet I
- 34:14Speaker 5: do not have him checked off yet, so he's been
- 34:17Speaker 5: in and out.
- 34:17Speaker 9: But I have a lot of guys that don't have
- 34:19Speaker 9: checked off.
- 34:19Speaker 6: But I'm sure here, especially offensive linemen, they're way down
- 34:23Speaker 6: that when they come out, they always come up the
- 34:25Speaker 6: other side, and it's just way out of my range.
- 34:28Speaker 5: I'm too old ready at the back.
- 34:30Speaker 2: I got you binoculars.
- 34:31Speaker 9: You wouldn't you get me.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I gave you a pair of binoculars.
- 34:35Speaker 4: He got me binoculars I gave Did I not give
- 34:39Speaker 4: you binoculars.
- 34:40Speaker 9: Not that I'm aware of.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Honestly, I thought it was last year you got some
- 34:43Speaker 5: old ones.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I gave you my binoculars.
- 34:47Speaker 6: You know, you gave it to me in like two
- 34:49Speaker 6: thousand and three. I remember, I tell you what the
- 34:52Speaker 6: score was in the game that he gave it to me.
- 34:54Speaker 4: But last year, and I don't I don't dycall it.
- 34:59Speaker 6: I did not give them away. You gave them to me.
- 35:01Speaker 6: They're in my desk somewhere.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I'll check.
- 35:04Speaker 5: I'll have to.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Effort that, all right. I mean, do we have to
- 35:06Speaker 2: give you a Lasik eye surgery?
- 35:08Speaker 9: You try to get it that doctors doesn't recommend it
- 35:11Speaker 9: to you?
- 35:11Speaker 5: Will really eyes are already fallen upon it.
- 35:14Speaker 9: You're too old to be a jedi.
- 35:15Speaker 6: He says, I could do it for you, and you'd
- 35:17Speaker 6: probably need lenses on them within five years, So it's
- 35:21Speaker 6: he didn't recommend it.
- 35:22Speaker 9: I'm not seeing seven. I don't see seven.
- 35:25Speaker 11: Uh see, all the other TV's are a little bit
- 35:31Speaker 11: spaced out right now, So maybe he's hiding somewhere, but
- 35:34Speaker 11: I did not see him.
- 35:36Speaker 6: Yeah, that's just I'm going to guess that he's he's
- 35:39Speaker 6: dealing with some sort of like soft tissue kind of
- 35:42Speaker 6: deal because the only time we've seen him the last
- 35:45Speaker 6: now this has been the fourth practice, was the walk through, right,
- 35:48Speaker 6: So there's no real running there. That's just everybody's that's
- 35:51Speaker 6: eligible is out there, you know.
- 35:54Speaker 9: That was that was the only outlier.
- 35:56Speaker 4: That's why I'm kind of surprised we're seeing because he
- 35:58Speaker 4: wasn't even there for the walk through.
- 36:00Speaker 9: But he wasn't allowed to be there for the walk time.
- 36:02Speaker 6: Oh okay, well the guys he's on the list though
- 36:06Speaker 6: the guys on lists were oh no, he's not on
- 36:09Speaker 6: the list.
- 36:10Speaker 9: Wasn't on the list.
- 36:10Speaker 6: That okay, let me take that back, so let's go
- 36:13Speaker 6: back to I'm good call.
- 36:14Speaker 4: And so the fact that he wasn't there for the walkthrough,
- 36:17Speaker 4: it surprised.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Me that the first time we see it's full time.
- 36:20Speaker 2: It's full pads.
- 36:21Speaker 9: Yeah me too. Yeah, I mean, maybe he's like, all right,
- 36:26Speaker 9: I gotta to get out.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'll see what his workload's like today. Is
- 36:30Speaker 3: he getting eased in or is he just jumped right in?
- 36:32Speaker 3: I mean they said he I think the report was
- 36:34Speaker 3: he had some muscle soreness, but I don't know if
- 36:36Speaker 3: that was in the shoulder that he had surgery on.
- 36:38Speaker 3: It doesn't sound right to me. They don't think muscles.
- 36:41Speaker 3: So he passed. He passed the physical. Yeah, so shoulders
- 36:43Speaker 3: should be good to go.
- 36:44Speaker 6: I guess it's you know, and when you're dealing with injuries,
- 36:47Speaker 6: sometimes you're not able to do as much cardio as
- 36:50Speaker 6: maybe you want to. I wonder if maybe it's just
- 36:51Speaker 6: general muscle soreness, you.
- 36:53Speaker 9: Know, I don't know. It seems like a long time
- 36:55Speaker 9: to be dealing.
- 36:56Speaker 3: With that, right, especially to hop right in with Pads
- 36:58Speaker 3: that the shoulder was an issue or that was the
- 37:00Speaker 3: thing holding him back.
- 37:00Speaker 5: Unlikely to throw him right to the Woltz right now.
- 37:02Speaker 5: But we'll see.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Let's move over to the we talk a little bit
- 37:05Speaker 4: about Carlon Davis, but let's move over to the defense,
- 37:08Speaker 4: because we've been focusing on the offense yesterday, not yesterday,
- 37:12Speaker 4: but Saturday. I think it was for Able talked, you know,
- 37:16Speaker 4: some lengthd about Splain and how he likes his energy,
- 37:20Speaker 4: his communication, his violence in the run game.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Is this guy a candidate for captain he's not already captain?
- 37:31Speaker 9: Yeah, I would absolutely say yes.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I mean, I think if you listen to the micd
- 37:35Speaker 3: up that we put out, it's just clear he is
- 37:37Speaker 3: taking the reins with this defense. He's a guy that's
- 37:40Speaker 3: worked hard to get to this point. It seems like
- 37:42Speaker 3: he's very excited to really feel like he has a
- 37:45Speaker 3: home here after bouncing around, you know, from Tennessee to
- 37:47Speaker 3: Pittsburgh to the Raiders and now you know, a three
- 37:50Speaker 3: year deal for him here.
- 37:51Speaker 5: He stepped right into this role and has just.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Become that instant middle linebacker in the middle who's making
- 37:56Speaker 3: the calls and adjusting guys and encouraging guy and setting
- 38:00Speaker 3: the tone. Right from the start of practice, I saw
- 38:03Speaker 3: him get his hands on a couple of balls. Last
- 38:04Speaker 3: practice on Saturday saw him free run right in on
- 38:07Speaker 3: a blitz as well.
- 38:09Speaker 5: And I think that's the biggest thing for me with Splaine.
- 38:11Speaker 3: It's just you know, we know, tackling machines, but is
- 38:14Speaker 3: he making plays, is he getting hands on is he
- 38:16Speaker 3: defending passes? Is he getting tackles for loss, is he
- 38:18Speaker 3: getting into the backfield, is he forcing fumbles? Those are
- 38:21Speaker 3: the things that can truly make him, you know, a
- 38:23Speaker 3: special player for this defense in addition to being the
- 38:27Speaker 3: intellectual leader trying to get everybody on the same page.
- 38:29Speaker 3: But from what the guys have all said about this
- 38:31Speaker 3: scheme now is it's very simple.
- 38:33Speaker 5: They just want you to play fast.
- 38:35Speaker 3: There's not a lot of sit there, figure it out,
- 38:37Speaker 3: decipher it, and then go get it. It's you know,
- 38:39Speaker 3: go get it and figure it out later. So I
- 38:40Speaker 3: think he fits that really well. Milton Williams does, Christian
- 38:43Speaker 3: Barmore does, and I hope Keyon White does as well.
- 38:46Speaker 3: That to me, and key On White said it himself
- 38:48Speaker 3: that he said his best when he's not thinking and
- 38:50Speaker 3: he's just playing. So hopefully he can understand this scheme
- 38:53Speaker 3: and Keon White can just play and really have that
- 38:55Speaker 3: breakout year that I know a lot of people think
- 38:56Speaker 3: he can have this.
- 38:57Speaker 9: Who is the player, the defensive player that said that
- 39:00Speaker 9: they call him the commander. I think it was Marcus Jones.
- 39:04Speaker 6: Marcus Jones, Yes, they call Spalaine the commander, so clearly
- 39:08Speaker 6: he's in charge. I mean that comes with that position
- 39:11Speaker 6: a little bit. It's kind of like the quarterback of
- 39:12Speaker 6: the defense. But we've seen it. We've seen Splaine, you know,
- 39:16Speaker 6: looking like he plays fast and has a jump. You know,
- 39:20Speaker 6: it's been a couple of nice plays in coverage of
- 39:22Speaker 6: the day. Also got beat a couple of plays pretty
- 39:24Speaker 6: badly in coverage on some of those running back routes.
- 39:28Speaker 9: But he's an active guy.
- 39:29Speaker 6: It's hard not to notice his energy just when you
- 39:32Speaker 6: watch practice, the way he comes out like, it's hard
- 39:34Speaker 6: not to notice his energy.
- 39:35Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I think you know, I'm sure and understandably
- 39:38Speaker 7: so not not a lot of people have we're combing
- 39:41Speaker 7: over Raiders tape over the last couple of years, given
- 39:44Speaker 7: what has happened with that team, But he's been somebody
- 39:47Speaker 7: that has been underrated, you know, kind of sneaky good
- 39:52Speaker 7: for a while.
- 39:52Speaker 12: Now.
- 39:53Speaker 7: It's obviously played for Rabel in Tennessee, so he's very
- 39:56Speaker 7: familiar with this defense, and it's stepping into a familiar
- 39:59Speaker 7: defense for him. So I can understand how he's already
- 40:02Speaker 7: has the calls down and already has all that communication down.
- 40:05Speaker 7: So him and Harold Landry, I think are two guys
- 40:07Speaker 7: that are going to be captains and going to be leaders.
- 40:11Speaker 7: Maybe Landry a little bit more of like a quiet
- 40:13Speaker 7: leader compared to Splaine. But I think those two guys
- 40:15Speaker 7: are here for partially because of that, to kind of
- 40:18Speaker 7: be circle the wagon guys, for the staff and for Verbel.
- 40:22Speaker 3: I like how you said that about Landry. That's what's
- 40:24Speaker 3: I wouldn't say surprised me. I didn't have any preconceived
- 40:26Speaker 3: notion of him. But he just seems like a serious
- 40:29Speaker 3: guy who goes about his business. He's always out here
- 40:31Speaker 3: really early, you know, seems just ready to carry over
- 40:36Speaker 3: what he did in Tennessee and slip right into this mold.
- 40:39Speaker 3: And you can see why Vrabel went out and got
- 40:41Speaker 3: those guys. Some transition going on with the defense. But
- 40:44Speaker 3: that's at least two pieces right there that know what
- 40:46Speaker 3: they're doing, They know all the calls, and they bring
- 40:49Speaker 3: a degree of familiarity with this defense.
- 40:51Speaker 4: As you can see, we've got our cameras now turned on.
- 40:54Speaker 4: On the field, there's your quarterback, Drake May's quarterback.
- 40:58Speaker 8: I give him a.
- 41:00Speaker 2: B maybe B minus. So far, this.
- 41:04Speaker 5: Tough.
- 41:05Speaker 6: This this may be a first in the history of
- 41:06Speaker 6: the program. I am higher on Drake May than Fred
- 41:09Speaker 6: for the first four days of practice, Okay, I thought,
- 41:12Speaker 6: you know, I guess I was a little bit alone
- 41:15Speaker 6: on this take. I thought he made more difficult passes
- 41:19Speaker 6: on Saturday, even though they weren't all complete, than he
- 41:22Speaker 6: did the first three games days combined, when everybody was
- 41:25Speaker 6: talking about how efficient the offense was. It's just not
- 41:27Speaker 6: really overly impressed when screens and little dump BoFs are
- 41:31Speaker 6: getting completed, right. I was impressed with some of the
- 41:34Speaker 6: He threaded one in to Henry On like a deep
- 41:38Speaker 6: over route. I think, before you yell at me, before
- 41:41Speaker 6: you yell at me, that was over the linebacker in
- 41:43Speaker 6: front of the safety.
- 41:44Speaker 9: I mean, the throw couldn't have been any better.
- 41:46Speaker 6: I thought the ones that he missed were largely the
- 41:49Speaker 6: result of too much pressure. There's too many guys in
- 41:52Speaker 6: his face and he's trying to throw on this. I
- 41:54Speaker 6: just thought, given the amount of time that he spent
- 41:57Speaker 6: throwing the ball down in the field on Saturday, that
- 42:00Speaker 6: the completion presentage is not going to be, you know,
- 42:03Speaker 6: in the high eighties like it was the first three days.
- 42:06Speaker 6: I thought, he's I think he's throwing the ball really well, yeah,
- 42:09Speaker 6: really well.
- 42:09Speaker 7: To get a lot more out of a practice in
- 42:11Speaker 7: like Saturday, then I feel like you got out of
- 42:13Speaker 7: the first couple of days, even though the stats might
- 42:16Speaker 7: look better from the first couple of days, like he
- 42:18Speaker 7: was actually opening it up and they were trying to
- 42:20Speaker 7: push the ball down the field more and be more aggressive.
- 42:23Speaker 7: Call it, you know, watching it from up here, just
- 42:25Speaker 7: like calling a bunch of shot plays as well that
- 42:27Speaker 7: were purposely meant to go down the field, unlike the.
- 42:30Speaker 9: First couple of days.
- 42:31Speaker 7: So if you can take what he did in the
- 42:32Speaker 7: first couple of days and then sprinkle in what they
- 42:34Speaker 7: did on Saturday, now you have an offense.
- 42:37Speaker 6: You get efficients and the big play capability.
- 42:41Speaker 7: I mean, I'm talking about to throw it at Pop
- 42:43Speaker 7: Douglas like I've I've been like I've been thinking about
- 42:46Speaker 7: that for two days.
- 42:47Speaker 9: That was that, you know, I mean, it's unbelievable. Flicked
- 42:49Speaker 9: his wrist and.
- 42:52Speaker 7: He flicked his wrist off one foot and through its
- 42:54Speaker 7: sixty yards on a dime like that. That is the talent,
- 42:57Speaker 7: the arm talent that he has. That is just unbelievable.
- 43:01Speaker 9: And I'm like, show you guys listening.
- 43:03Speaker 6: You know, you guys all got a chance to see it,
- 43:04Speaker 6: because I know we had the video that we put
- 43:06Speaker 6: out there through our social channels, so you got a
- 43:09Speaker 6: chance to see the level of difficulty on the play.
- 43:12Speaker 6: It wasn't just a run of the mill while he
- 43:13Speaker 6: ran by everybody, you know, like now they had an
- 43:16Speaker 6: ad lib.
- 43:17Speaker 9: They bought time.
- 43:19Speaker 6: And then May specifically said, that's one of the things
- 43:22Speaker 6: that he's really focusing on.
- 43:24Speaker 7: That was that was like Josh Allen esque, like that
- 43:26Speaker 7: was that looked like well you would see in Buffalo.
- 43:30Speaker 9: That was a hell of a throw, Like you.
- 43:31Speaker 6: Got nothing there, they got the play stopped and all
- 43:33Speaker 6: of a sudden, they're in.
- 43:34Speaker 9: The end zone.
- 43:35Speaker 3: I find myself questioning a lot because I feel like
- 43:37Speaker 3: you're inherently every NFL team right now probably feels fairly positive.
- 43:41Speaker 3: I can't imagine that any NFL team's coverage has got
- 43:44Speaker 3: in the four days of practice at a good point.
- 43:46Speaker 3: You know, oh god, it's over, guys. And certainly they
- 43:49Speaker 3: are going to be teams that are terrible this year.
- 43:50Speaker 3: And I felt that way, you know, every year, whether
- 43:53Speaker 3: it was you know, a couple of years ago when
- 43:54Speaker 3: they lost a couple of four win seasons, or even
- 43:56Speaker 3: when they know made the playoffs in twenty twenty one.
- 44:00Speaker 3: So I'm trying to like measure like because Saturday's practice,
- 44:03Speaker 3: to me, was one of the most fun training cramp
- 44:04Speaker 3: practices I've seen, maybe in recent memory. I can't remember
- 44:09Speaker 3: one where it was back and forth. You had some
- 44:11Speaker 3: pressure from the defense, you had some nice sacks where
- 44:14Speaker 3: you know, you might look at it as all that's
- 44:16Speaker 3: concerning about the offensive line. Then you also see, you know,
- 44:19Speaker 3: the offense making some plays down the field, and all right,
- 44:21Speaker 3: well that's good for the downfield. Maybe we're contumbled to safties.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Just back and forth.
- 44:24Speaker 5: It was balanced. It comes down today.
- 44:26Speaker 4: It all comes down to the nature of what they're
- 44:28Speaker 4: trying to accomplish that day. And you know, they were
- 44:31Speaker 4: trying to go longer, and like Evan said, take those plays.
- 44:36Speaker 4: That's going to bring down your stats because you don't
- 44:38Speaker 4: complete as many of those.
- 44:40Speaker 2: But that's what they were trying to do. That's why
- 44:42Speaker 2: you know, you look.
- 44:43Speaker 4: At these training camp statistics and there's no context to them.
- 44:48Speaker 2: You know, what were they trying to do that day?
- 44:50Speaker 4: When he's fourteen or fifteen, All the passes are under
- 44:53Speaker 4: sixty yards, So yeah, you better be fourteen to fifteen, right,
- 44:58Speaker 4: And if you're doing.
- 45:00Speaker 2: What they did Saturday. It's unlikely that they're gonna be.
- 45:03Speaker 7: But you know, like I think the hope is if
- 45:06Speaker 7: you do what they did on the day that he
- 45:08Speaker 7: was fourteen for fifteen and get him more of those layups.
- 45:12Speaker 7: It's not going to all be on his shoulders to
- 45:13Speaker 7: make the throw that he made the pop Douglas to
- 45:15Speaker 7: get them in the game, right, And so that that's
- 45:18Speaker 7: the hope is that you can combine those two things.
- 45:21Speaker 7: And I know there's a lot of chatter on Paul
- 45:23Speaker 7: shows about whether or not they're gonna reel him in
- 45:25Speaker 7: and like reel.
- 45:26Speaker 9: In his gun slinger in his running ability.
- 45:29Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, and I hope that that doesn't necessarily happen.
- 45:33Speaker 9: I think it's funny.
- 45:34Speaker 7: And I know we pick on your guys a lot, Paul,
- 45:36Speaker 7: but like they get on like, you know, he doesn't,
- 45:39Speaker 7: you know, Felger doesn't think that that running quarterbacks are good.
- 45:44Speaker 9: It's like who was in the Super Bowl last year?
- 45:46Speaker 9: Who won? It's amazing the super Bowl last year.
- 45:48Speaker 7: Jalen Hurts right in the super Bowl, right, you know,
- 45:52Speaker 7: Lamar Jackson was in the AFC Championship game.
- 45:54Speaker 6: I'm sure he thinks of Josh Divisional Jackson as losers
- 45:57Speaker 6: because they haven't won seven titles, right, but like, despite
- 46:00Speaker 6: the fact they've won more games in the NFL over
- 46:02Speaker 6: to the last five years than anybody else.
- 46:04Speaker 7: Every year, the final four, the final eight, like seven
- 46:07Speaker 7: of the eight quarterbacks are a dual threat.
- 46:09Speaker 9: Like they're like, that's just the lead.
- 46:10Speaker 7: The Super Bowl matchup last year was Mahomes versus Hurts,
- 46:14Speaker 7: two guys that are athletic and can move around. So
- 46:16Speaker 7: I get it, Like, you don't want the Lamar Jackson. Like,
- 46:18Speaker 7: our offense is built around the quarterback run.
- 46:21Speaker 4: And we've talked about this in the past on this show.
- 46:25Speaker 4: Everyone says, oh, well, NFL is an offensive league. Now
- 46:28Speaker 4: all the rules are you know, skewed to you know,
- 46:31Speaker 4: score points. But the defenses are more complex now than
- 46:34Speaker 4: they ever were catching out right, and you need that
- 46:38Speaker 4: quarterback that can do both to keep the defenses honest.
- 46:41Speaker 4: If you have a pocket quarterback who's not mobile in
- 46:45Speaker 4: today's NFL with the speed on defense, it makes it
- 46:47Speaker 4: too easy.
- 46:48Speaker 2: It makes it too easy.
- 46:50Speaker 4: You get that quarterback who can extend plays on third down,
- 46:54Speaker 4: you think you had it a third and eight and
- 46:55Speaker 4: he runs for the first.
- 46:56Speaker 2: It's a backbreaker. For the defense. You need that. You
- 47:00Speaker 2: need that threat.
- 47:02Speaker 4: I'm not saying that you have to do it all
- 47:03Speaker 4: the time, but you need that threat to keep these
- 47:06Speaker 4: fast defenses honest, because defenses aren't as bad as we
- 47:10Speaker 4: think they are.
- 47:12Speaker 7: Yeah, and I get the I get what Felger's point
- 47:14Speaker 7: is about the design run. It's like, oh, Lamar Jackson,
- 47:16Speaker 7: that zone reading and read options and things.
- 47:18Speaker 9: Like, you don't want to that doesn't You don't want
- 47:21Speaker 9: that to be the.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Foundation of your eye gimmicking.
- 47:24Speaker 6: Also in his defense, not that you know, his arrogance
- 47:27Speaker 6: needs to be defended.
- 47:28Speaker 5: He's got to show it to But he also says.
- 47:31Speaker 6: Like he thinks of Mahomes' mentality as being ideal, like
- 47:36Speaker 6: a guy who can run but generally doesn't waste it
- 47:39Speaker 6: in the regular season.
- 47:41Speaker 9: It's when there's a big game.
- 47:42Speaker 6: In the fourth quarter or a playoff game he he
- 47:46Speaker 6: tends to run a little bit more to pick up
- 47:48Speaker 6: that key third and eight when he needs it, as
- 47:50Speaker 6: opposed to as Evan said, the Lamar Jackson is gonna
- 47:53Speaker 6: run for twelve hundred yards and maybe that's not necessarily
- 47:57Speaker 6: the better.
- 47:57Speaker 3: I'd say all that, all that said, I think today's
- 47:59Speaker 3: really interesting day for Drake May when starting the red zone,
- 48:02Speaker 3: tighter windows.
- 48:03Speaker 5: You heard Brabe will say it.
- 48:04Speaker 3: Maybe, like Evan said, we'll see some of the mobile
- 48:07Speaker 3: quarterback stuff down near the goal line.
- 48:09Speaker 5: But you know, I want to see Drake throw some
- 48:11Speaker 5: strikes today.
- 48:12Speaker 3: I want to see some throwing with anticipation of windows
- 48:15Speaker 3: and you know, see that part of his game.
- 48:16Speaker 5: How much does that improved?
- 48:17Speaker 3: Is he able to throw some touchdowns in some of
- 48:20Speaker 3: these periods that I think he'll have about, you know,
- 48:21Speaker 3: eighteen reps. So it's not you know, it's not a
- 48:23Speaker 3: huge sample size in practice, but he'll have some opportunities
- 48:26Speaker 3: for sure.
- 48:27Speaker 4: I know Paul will say, you can talk about your
- 48:29Speaker 4: backup quarterback on your own time, but do we have one.
- 48:33Speaker 9: I like Josh Dopps. I like his mentality.
- 48:35Speaker 7: Like if I like this mentality, if you have a
- 48:38Speaker 7: veteran quarterback, and I would agree with that. It's like
- 48:40Speaker 7: Brian Hoyr is the same way, like just rip it,
- 48:43Speaker 7: like what like don't go out there and like be
- 48:45Speaker 7: conservative and and like worry about pitt and throwing picks
- 48:48Speaker 7: like you're on the team for a reason.
- 48:49Speaker 9: You're a backup quarterback to be you know, a mentor.
- 48:52Speaker 7: A veteran voice in the room for a young quarterback
- 48:55Speaker 7: like Drake may And I like that he comes out
- 48:57Speaker 7: here and kind of lets it loose a little bit.
- 48:59Speaker 7: Hoyer was a great practice quarterbacks.
- 49:02Speaker 6: I would say Dobbs is not afraid to throw into
- 49:05Speaker 6: one of those defensive team meetings. But that said some
- 49:09Speaker 6: of the level of difficulty on some of his completions
- 49:12Speaker 6: off the charts, that little like soft spot in his
- 49:15Speaker 6: own like the little hole shot.
- 49:16Speaker 9: Yeah, he's done that like four times.
- 49:18Speaker 6: A couple of them have been to to Mario Douglas
- 49:22Speaker 6: where those those throws are not easy to make.
- 49:24Speaker 9: So yeah, I mean he's been up and down. He's
- 49:26Speaker 9: he's a backup. Yeah, so you're.
- 49:28Speaker 6: Going to have some up and down play. Otherwise he'd
- 49:30Speaker 6: be someone start. Yeah, But I do like his mentality.
- 49:34Speaker 6: I like the way you can lead that off I think.
- 49:37Speaker 6: I think Brissette is widely regarded as a tremendous professional.
- 49:42Speaker 9: I think last.
- 49:43Speaker 6: Year he felt like he was going to get the
- 49:45Speaker 6: season to be the starter and maybe have a chance
- 49:47Speaker 6: to one last grasp at showing someone that he can
- 49:51Speaker 6: be someone's starter, and then he didn't get it. And
- 49:54Speaker 6: I don't think he was great in terms of the
- 49:56Speaker 6: other stuff that you were hoping to get when once
- 49:58Speaker 6: he became the backup. I think you will get that
- 50:01Speaker 6: from top.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a little poudy.
- 50:03Speaker 4: I think that first game against Sinnati just screwed everybody up.
- 50:08Speaker 2: You know, it really did it.
- 50:11Speaker 5: You know expectations.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we're looking at the offensive line right now,
- 50:16Speaker 4: there's sixty six little Campbell.
- 50:19Speaker 9: Yeah, I thought that. I think Will Campbell's off to
- 50:21Speaker 9: a solid star.
- 50:22Speaker 7: He's the team drills has been a little bit up
- 50:24Speaker 7: and down for him. He's gotten beat a couple of
- 50:26Speaker 7: times in pass protection, but I thought he had a
- 50:29Speaker 7: good run of one on ones on Saturday. I think
- 50:32Speaker 7: with the offensive line always it's like one play that
- 50:34Speaker 7: sticks out to you where he gets beaten. He has
- 50:36Speaker 7: ten good reps and one bad and that's all you count.
- 50:39Speaker 7: But I think he's been as advertised I would say
- 50:42Speaker 7: so far, like not perfect in pass pro and has
- 50:45Speaker 7: some things to work on there, but for the most part,
- 50:47Speaker 7: has been solid.
- 50:49Speaker 4: If you're wondering what that was, funny things on everyone's helmet,
- 50:52Speaker 4: those are the guardian padding that they put on and
- 50:55Speaker 4: I don't know if it's mandatory, but I think a
- 50:57Speaker 4: lot of players like wearing those in practice.
- 51:00Speaker 7: I believe they are mandatory for positions like the trench,
- 51:04Speaker 7: positions like positions in the thick of it, like tight end,
- 51:09Speaker 7: pull back, offensive line, defensive line.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, to buy to by walking up the backside.
- 51:16Speaker 3: Not not in pads, No, not in pats. I just
- 51:18Speaker 3: saw him walking up the backside with without anything on.
- 51:21Speaker 3: So yeah, I guess, uh, maybe a setback for him
- 51:24Speaker 3: from that calf injury that he experience.
- 51:27Speaker 6: Yeah, he had looked like he had an issue on
- 51:29Speaker 6: Saturday right at one point.
- 51:30Speaker 9: Yeah, was that Saturday?
- 51:31Speaker 5: Or for it must have been Saturday.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Kyl and Pembroke writes in at Patriots Said, Uh What's It?
- 51:38Speaker 4: Podcast at Patriots dot Com after the first week of
- 51:41Speaker 4: training camp. My hot takes are that Javon Baker has
- 51:44Speaker 4: a better chance of making the team over Poke, and
- 51:47Speaker 4: that ben Woo Woodridge has a real chance of beating
- 51:50Speaker 4: out Dobbs for the backup.
- 51:52Speaker 9: I don't I don't see the backup one.
- 51:54Speaker 5: I don't know that.
- 51:55Speaker 9: I mean, I put that close to zero.
- 51:57Speaker 7: Yeah, Dobbs has a role, like has a purpose here, Paul,
- 52:02Speaker 7: I thought laid it out earlier that Like, it's the
- 52:04Speaker 7: same thing to me with maccollins, Like everybody's wondering if
- 52:07Speaker 7: mac collins is going to be on the team or not.
- 52:09Speaker 9: It's not practicing.
- 52:10Speaker 7: Mccollins, I think has a purpose to the coaching staff,
- 52:13Speaker 7: a leadership, a mentorship type of role.
- 52:17Speaker 9: I think the same thing with Dobbs.
- 52:20Speaker 4: Let's see Todd and Garner got to give Fred is
- 52:23Speaker 4: due for wishing the worst down opponents. The Jets are
- 52:26Speaker 4: suffering QB injuries and conflicts. The Raiders defensive star held
- 52:29Speaker 4: out during his rehab it was released.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Two teams we face this year are already imploding.
- 52:35Speaker 4: Well done, Fred, Now for a quick question, other than
- 52:38Speaker 4: Drake May, who is the one player that, if he
- 52:41Speaker 4: goes down, will derail the Patriots season.
- 52:44Speaker 5: Paul Spellane could be.
- 52:49Speaker 6: I think there's some one player I don't think is
- 52:52Speaker 6: going to do that other than May.
- 52:55Speaker 9: But I would put a group of.
- 52:59Speaker 6: Milton Williams, Robert Splaine, Christian Gonzalez, Steffan Diggs. Like I'm
- 53:07Speaker 6: not saying any one of those individually would cause a spiral,
- 53:10Speaker 6: but those would be individuals that would be lost on
- 53:13Speaker 6: my list of guys that they could.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Afford to lose.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I might put Harold Landry in that mix too,
- 53:18Speaker 3: depending on how it all shapes out.
- 53:19Speaker 9: He could be one two.
- 53:20Speaker 5: But you know, somebody.
- 53:23Speaker 4: I think about, Milton Williams is the second name out
- 53:25Speaker 4: of my I think about Landry and Williams and those
- 53:29Speaker 4: new guys is first we got to see are they
- 53:31Speaker 4: going to be who we hope they are before I
- 53:35Speaker 4: tab them as Oh we can't.
- 53:37Speaker 9: I'm tabbing them as guys they don't have.
- 53:38Speaker 6: Replacements for Yeah, well, like Robert Splaine, there's nobody that
- 53:42Speaker 6: can play every down linebacker.
- 53:45Speaker 9: I don't think they have another guy on the roster. Yeah,
- 53:47Speaker 9: I mean I think I guess it would be Christian.
- 53:48Speaker 5: Ellis, Jack Gibbons, Jack Gibbons.
- 53:51Speaker 6: I wouldn't feel great about any I think it's I
- 53:54Speaker 6: don't think Juwan Bentley was an All Pro player right
- 53:58Speaker 6: when he went out last year, they didn't have anybody
- 54:00Speaker 6: that was as good that could replace him, and I
- 54:03Speaker 6: think it hurt the defense.
- 54:04Speaker 9: Yeah, you guys want to want attendance, just please?
- 54:07Speaker 7: All right, So Carlton Davis and Jelani Tavai are your absences.
- 54:11Speaker 9: Matt Collins, Austin Hooper Verderian low remain on.
- 54:14Speaker 7: Pup pulp back Josh Minkin's off or off NFI. Excuse
- 54:19Speaker 7: me he returned, so no to buy no Davis or
- 54:23Speaker 7: you know, the surprises or unknowns or whatever it was.
- 54:26Speaker 9: I wasn't really missing. I was only missing like three guys.
- 54:28Speaker 5: That's pretty good, not bad, all right.
- 54:33Speaker 4: Joey wants to know what's it gonna take for Chisholm
- 54:36Speaker 4: to make the team. Does it mean born a booty
- 54:38Speaker 4: will need to have poor training camp for Chisholm to
- 54:41Speaker 4: make it, or are we Patriots fans wishful thinking for
- 54:44Speaker 4: another Edilman.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I honestly, I think it's gonna take
- 54:49Speaker 3: an injury for him to be anything more than a
- 54:52Speaker 3: practice squader, unless unless he blows up in the preseason
- 54:54Speaker 3: and he gets in some opportunities late in the game
- 54:56Speaker 3: and he starts to make some catches and Josh McDaniels
- 54:59Speaker 3: is intrigue, and maybe Pop Douglas is sore one day
- 55:02Speaker 3: and Chisholm gets to step in with Drake and he
- 55:04Speaker 3: makes four or five. You know that those kind of
- 55:06Speaker 3: things can happen, But it's an uphill climb from Chisholm
- 55:09Speaker 3: right now.
- 55:09Speaker 6: I am expecting an Austin Carr like preseason from him,
- 55:13Speaker 6: Like the last three quarters, He's going to get targeted
- 55:16Speaker 6: a million times by like Josh Dobbs.
- 55:18Speaker 9: And Wooldridge, and people will blow it out of proportion.
- 55:23Speaker 7: Yeah, with those guys, you always wonder. It's like a
- 55:25Speaker 7: baseball thing, like is he a four A player?
- 55:28Speaker 4: Right?
- 55:28Speaker 7: Like? Is he too good to be on a practice
- 55:30Speaker 7: squad but maybe not quite good enough to play?
- 55:32Speaker 9: I don't think you have any issues getting you on
- 55:34Speaker 9: the practice squad.
- 55:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't see what he does in the preseason.
- 55:37Speaker 7: I don't think of an issue per se with the
- 55:39Speaker 7: way like there's not a ton of waiver claims anymore anyways,
- 55:42Speaker 7: But we'll see.
- 55:44Speaker 4: Yeah, So people are wondering what happens when you go
- 55:47Speaker 4: on a practice squad. Another team can claim any other
- 55:51Speaker 4: player from another team's practice squad, but they have to
- 55:54Speaker 4: put him on the active roster if they do.
- 55:57Speaker 2: And I think for at least three weeks. I think
- 55:58Speaker 2: there's a minimum that he has to be on your.
- 56:01Speaker 7: Active Rockney player that's your claims, and their rookie contract
- 56:05Speaker 7: goes through waivers. The invested veterans don't go through waivers
- 56:08Speaker 7: this time of year, those guys become free agents instantly.
- 56:11Speaker 7: But if you're in the first I think it's four
- 56:13Speaker 7: years of your NFL career, then you go on.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Waivers before you can be on the practice squad.
- 56:18Speaker 3: Correct, right, I just hope that all these guys, all
- 56:20Speaker 3: these receivers, that the competition can elevate some of these
- 56:25Speaker 3: players and make them good enough to have this offense
- 56:28Speaker 3: be a functional offense that can score on anybody at
- 56:31Speaker 3: any time. And maybe that's asking a little bit, but
- 56:34Speaker 3: can you know Diggs's presence elevate Pop Douglas? Can that
- 56:38Speaker 3: help Key Shaan BOUDI continue to elevate? You know, is
- 56:41Speaker 3: Diggs's leadership in the locker room and the tone that
- 56:44Speaker 3: he's setting. Does that pull some of these guys up?
- 56:46Speaker 5: Does it?
- 56:47Speaker 3: You know? Demonstrate to Javon Baker, this is how you
- 56:49Speaker 3: have to be a professional.
- 56:50Speaker 5: This is the consistency you have to come with every
- 56:52Speaker 5: day to practice.
- 56:54Speaker 3: I just want to trim the fat and figure out
- 56:55Speaker 3: when we get to the in the training camp. Right,
- 56:57Speaker 3: these are the guys who are moving forward now. So
- 56:59Speaker 3: the second year in a row felt like you've had
- 57:00Speaker 3: a big logjam, a wide receiver, and it's still last
- 57:03Speaker 3: year didn't feel like you ever got.
- 57:04Speaker 5: Any real true answers from that group. Booty had a
- 57:07Speaker 5: good year.
- 57:07Speaker 3: I mean he continued to progress, but never got to
- 57:09Speaker 3: the point where you felt like he was a game changer.
- 57:12Speaker 3: Maybe as a group this year they can they can
- 57:14Speaker 3: be game Changer's eighty six.
- 57:16Speaker 6: The guy to me that's far more important than this
- 57:18Speaker 6: whole conversation is the one.
- 57:19Speaker 9: Too was right, and that is Kyle Williams.
- 57:23Speaker 6: I think if he can come in and make a
- 57:25Speaker 6: you know, a legitimate role for himself where he's not
- 57:28Speaker 6: just a you know, a piece, but a legitimate, complimentary
- 57:32Speaker 6: receiver who is making consistent contributions on a week to
- 57:36Speaker 6: week basis, I think he has a skill set that
- 57:38Speaker 6: could do that. But it's we all know this is
- 57:41Speaker 6: not an easy jump. We've seen a lot of young
- 57:43Speaker 6: receivers come into this system in struggle. So hopefully he
- 57:47Speaker 6: can get the mental side down so he can show
- 57:49Speaker 6: some of that physical stuff that we saw at Washington State.
- 57:51Speaker 7: Yeah, still I wonder about his position, and I know
- 57:55Speaker 7: he's a wide receiversde because he's got a good release
- 58:01Speaker 7: off the line to play on the outside, But his
- 58:03Speaker 7: body type just doesn't He's just a little too small
- 58:06Speaker 7: to me, like like corners that are in the NFL.
- 58:08Speaker 6: He's listed at five to eleven. Yeah, I don't know
- 58:11Speaker 6: if he's five eleven.
- 58:12Speaker 7: Yeah, if you're one on one with it, like a
- 58:14Speaker 7: Christian Gonzalez, like Gonzo is just gonna get in his
- 58:17Speaker 7: face and he's just gonna bully him at the line
- 58:19Speaker 7: of scrimmage. And I just don't know if he has
- 58:21Speaker 7: that play strength and stuff yet to play an outside role.
- 58:26Speaker 7: And then if you are really looking at him moving
- 58:28Speaker 7: more inside, well, now Diggs is there, Pop is there.
- 58:30Speaker 9: And now you're in that log jam.
- 58:32Speaker 7: So I'm just wondering where exactly because I think they're
- 58:34Speaker 7: trying to make him start to push Boody as like
- 58:37Speaker 7: that primary X. I just don't know if his skill
- 58:40Speaker 7: set is perfect for that kind of role.
- 58:42Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good point.
- 58:43Speaker 3: Love to see him, you know, this year, pop in
- 58:46Speaker 3: and make some key plays. Maybe he's not the starter
- 58:49Speaker 3: out of the shoot, but he's a guy like him
- 58:51Speaker 3: and born like you need those you know, fourth fifth
- 58:53Speaker 3: kind of receiver Hollins like those three, those guys.
- 58:55Speaker 5: Are gonna come in key times and make some key plays.
- 58:57Speaker 6: Yeah, and I am probably guilty of this, Like how
- 59:00Speaker 6: many times do you have to get let down, Paul
- 59:02Speaker 6: before you start, you know, counting to get where it happens.
- 59:05Speaker 9: But I'm ready, I'm gonna, We're gonna open myself up
- 59:07Speaker 9: to get hurt again, and I'm okay with it.
- 59:10Speaker 7: But like him and Travon Henderson, to me, is just
- 59:12Speaker 7: it's not about volume. It's like how many big plays
- 59:14Speaker 7: can they create. If they can both combine to make
- 59:18Speaker 7: some chunk plays for this offense and plays that they
- 59:21Speaker 7: weren't getting the last couple of years, then the draft
- 59:24Speaker 7: picks are fine. Like maybe they aren't going to be
- 59:26Speaker 7: a thousand yard receiver or a thousand yard rusher, but
- 59:29Speaker 7: can they have like a fifty yard gain in a
- 59:31Speaker 7: game or a sixty yard gain in a game like
- 59:34Speaker 7: Thatose are the types of plays that they just weren't getting.
- 59:36Speaker 4: Yep, Seana Vancouver thinks that Will Campbell is a guy
- 59:40Speaker 4: that can't.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Be replaced if he went down. That's true. I mean
- 59:45Speaker 2: we hope that the case that is true.
- 59:46Speaker 6: No, but they don't have a tackle back and I
- 59:48Speaker 6: mean we saw it last year. The guys that are
- 59:51Speaker 6: behind Will Campbell and Morgan Moses are the two guys.
- 59:54Speaker 9: Who played last year. I'm not going to train Jacobs.
- 59:56Speaker 16: In in Vederian low and has some practice, right, So
- 1:00:00Speaker 16: I mean really it's probably Marcus Bryant, you know, So
- 1:00:03Speaker 16: He's right, Sean's right, they don't have I don't think
- 1:00:06Speaker 16: adequate replacements, all right.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what's interesting is the depth.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: And again, just that's what's most interesting me coming out
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: of this camp. Who are the guys that were not
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: really expecting to be contributors or expecting to carve out
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: a significant role on this team? That will and I
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: think the push really starts today as things start to
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: ramp up.
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: Right, I mean Will Campbell going wire to wire his
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: rookie season as the starter for seventeen straight weeks doing
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: a lot is asking a lot, and hopefully it's more
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: than seventeen weeks, right, Like, I think that's asking for
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: even more so at some point him or Moses is
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: especially Moses at thirty four and most plays a lot
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: of games, but he still kind of gets nicked up
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: here and there, and like we'll miss a game or two.
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: So one of those guys is is going to go
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: down with an injury at some point and they're going
- 1:00:52Speaker 7: to have to replace them.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: All right, we're watching Will Campbell now. I think Will,
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: I'm excited to see the man on man side.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: When they go against the defense.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: I assume they're going to do that today, but no guarantees.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: But when they go one on one with the defense.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: So we're in period six right now.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: There's about seven minutes left, so that'll be our the
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: end of us and then yeah, they'll go I think
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: right into team which are sorry group which is offensive
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: defense separately, and then one on ones in the red
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: zone on.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: So it would help me if and I'm talking to
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: our technical people, if when we do have to turn
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: the cameras off for our audience, if we can keep
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: our monitor on what's going on the field so.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: I can use that.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: I'm pretty good.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: Yeah I could. I could just turn around too.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: But you got your buyinox Fred.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Yeah, Now it's a good perch up here, let's see
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: a lot.
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: It's a good This is a good inside baseball discussion.
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: Some of us like the perch, some of us don't
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: like the perch.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: I like the perch, me too. I like being above it,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: so I can you know, I.
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: Just can't see.
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: It's a total me thing. My eyesight is terrible. No,
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: this is not like you guys are out of your
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: minds for liking it up there.
- 1:02:08Speaker 9: I can't see. I physically can't see.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: I need the binoculars.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: But yeah, I don't want to just see like two players.
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: I want to see I like, I'm like it, and
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: I want to see all twenty two.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: Well, right now it's all ninety one and it's a
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: a little hard to keep track.
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: My dream someday maybe this will come true, would be
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: to get the practice tape.
- 1:02:30Speaker 9: Oh I watch after the practice, like not to like
- 1:02:33Speaker 9: even share.
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: It, like just cut ups and put them on Twitter,
- 1:02:37Speaker 7: just to formulate my takes a little bit more, you know,
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: and stuff like that. Because you're trying to watch the
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: line of scrimmage and there's bodies flying everywhere, like you
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: sometimes you catch someone flashing, but like really you're it's hard.
- 1:02:50Speaker 9: It's hard to see it.
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: And that's like I'm looking right at it and it's
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: hard to see it.
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: I don't see.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: In the past, they've had I used to call them
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: the boat and then it had the big how we're
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: in the middle of the boat, and they used it
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: remote control.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: I don't see, so I'm wondering.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: I know there's they had the behind the line of
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: scrimmage camera. It's someone with a big monopod, and but
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: I don't see where the other camera. They must be
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: mounted somewhere and being operated remotely.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: I mean, I'm looking right now at a coaching assistant
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: down there, and she's got a camera.
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got to got a handheld be she's gotta be.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: It just can't there.
- 1:03:24Speaker 9: You just gotta Yeah, you just got a shot of
- 1:03:26Speaker 9: it right there.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Yeah, But there's gotta be cameras around the field that
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: are at a high level so that Evan can get
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: his Uh.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: I wish it's his tape.
- 1:03:36Speaker 9: I wish. I promise I won't. I won't tweet any
- 1:03:40Speaker 9: of it. I want, I want.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: It's just for me, just for me, just for me,
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: for my informed of pants. O.
- 1:03:44Speaker 9: There you on the hop.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: Yeah, so this is this is your field level guy,
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: and he's got that above the line. But there's gotta
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: be other cameras.
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: Yeah, they probably have a bird's eye view camera somewhere.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: It's all a I know, just make it up.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: It's all ball bearings nowadays, guys, Yeah, so it sounds
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: like there'll be a few days of pats this week,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: and so though there will be a little bit of
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: a grind's gonna be hot. It might be the proverbial
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: dog days of summer perhaps, But Paul said, it's like
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: this week training camp. Yeah, next week's kind of preseason
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: joint practice Minnesota Giants, because then you get into.
- 1:04:25Speaker 7: Like the schedule of like you know, game, day off
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: before the game and day off after the game, and
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: it kind.
- 1:04:31Speaker 9: Of slows down. Two weeks yeah, I.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: Guess two and a half weeks maybe of real camp.
- 1:04:37Speaker 9: I don't do it like they did it back in
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: the day anymore.
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: Not like us now, kid, nowadays, they don't know when
- 1:04:43Speaker 6: you guys back did your your triple sessions whoever it was,
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: did they Did.
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: They ever have non padded practices where there's still shells
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: and helmet days and stuff like that, sessions with without
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: full pads?
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: Yeah, they would have, Like really, would they go full
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: pads both sessions in the same.
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: Day, one would be on or off. The problem is
- 1:05:00Speaker 9: they never told you, so, like sometimes you get stuck. Yeah,
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: watching both.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: I remember double sessions in high school and that man,
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: I just was so hot after that first one.
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: It was where I discovered now those were always in
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: pads right both sessions.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: It's where I discovered the magic of powdered gatorade.
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: Versus just the gatorade you buy. Like the trainers.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: They always had the powdered stuff, and you could make
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: it a little bit sweeter, a little more powerful. And
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: I just remember jugging that stuff like you're gonna go
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: back to practice, O tough CJ.
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: Dupree taking this rep here eighty two. Just like those
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: tight ends in general, like none of them have really.
- 1:05:37Speaker 9: Someone's got to emerge.
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: Yeah, like the tight end three position right now, And
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: I just wonder if it stays this way, if they
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: just try to carry one or two on the practice squad,
- 1:05:46Speaker 7: if they have to elevate them.
- 1:05:47Speaker 9: One week, they elevate them, and they just go that route.
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: Because none of these guys have really done anything.
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: I would Westover would be the one I've noticed the most,
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: but that's simply because he's been.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Out there more.
- 1:05:59Speaker 9: I haven't necessarily seen him do a lot. Yeah, I said,
- 1:06:05Speaker 9: full back there.
- 1:06:06Speaker 7: You said that to about Chishom, like you probably have No,
- 1:06:08Speaker 7: I don't think you have any problem getting any of
- 1:06:10Speaker 7: these guys to the practice squad like Jack west Over,
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: CJ dpre Jean Bell. So with all the elevations and
- 1:06:17Speaker 7: the rules now you might not need to carry eight
- 1:06:19Speaker 7: three guys on the roster.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I just want to know who I want because
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: I haven't seen much out of any of those guys
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: yet to make me say like I really need to
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: keep any of.
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: These guys so far. And that's obvious after what the
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: full practice we've seen.
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: But right it just gives you some time and then
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: if someone ends up getting you know, season ending injury
- 1:06:37Speaker 7: happen somewhere, and if there's an ir spot that opens up,
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: then you can sign them to the roster, but you
- 1:06:41Speaker 7: don't necessarily need to carry him right out of the game.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: Well, I think today's an interesting day though, just because
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: if they're gonna be the red zone, they're gonna be
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: on the goal line. It might give opportunity to a
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: second tight end liked pre Blocking, or that full back
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: Brock Lampy, maybe he gets some snaps.
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: I mean, there's some interesting things to look at once
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: they get down there.
- 1:06:56Speaker 9: There's been a lot of full back.
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: There's been a lot of fullback, and I think there's
- 1:07:00Speaker 7: too much full back to say that that's gonna go away.
- 1:07:03Speaker 9: You know, I don't know if will be.
- 1:07:05Speaker 7: Lamping Ye, but it's gonna it's gonna be somebody because
- 1:07:09Speaker 7: they've been doing too much of it during the team
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: periods to then just throw out that part of the
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: playbook once the season comes around because they don't have
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: one on the roster.
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: And if you do keep lamp beyond the roster, I
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: think that would even further cement your tight end three
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: committee from the practice grid.
- 1:07:25Speaker 7: Henry Hooper, Lampy, then a couple of guys on the
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: practice squads stashed away.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: What have we seen from Lampy so far as I
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: just right now, it's hard to get until the you know,
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: until we really see contact today and this is coming
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: up week.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: But if he's leading the way into the end zone
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: to I'm going to be fair to Lampy, he can't
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: do Lampy things until you get pat on.
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: The usage is what stands out though, Like you know,
- 1:07:51Speaker 7: the fact that he is he'd that they are going
- 1:07:53Speaker 7: to that package and they are using a full back
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: like that's that's notable.
- 1:07:57Speaker 9: That that's the part that so far, at least for me,
- 1:07:59Speaker 9: that I that I I've noted.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: We're able with twenty five today Marcus Jones. How much
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: longer is it before we see him show up on
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: the injury report?
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: I was, I'm wondering if he's like getting in better
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: shape all this practice and he's been doing, like, is
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: he getting in shape too?
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: I down fighting getting.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Hit pretty hard as some of those and he puts.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: That Blaine popped them in the job. I was like, man,
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: don't get hurt, Mike.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: I wonder how much ibuprofit he's taken after these. All right,
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: so our cameras.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: This is off the field now, so you're looking at us.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: Sorry, sorry, So we'll do our best to see what's
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: going on over there and try to tell you what
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: we see.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: But that's hard because we have to be looking this way.
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: You're going to be staring at my back. I apologize. Yes,
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: I'm going to stand up.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: All right, So good? Are we are? Good? To take
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: a break downstairs? Might be a good time to do
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: that reset.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So that'll be it for this edition
