- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: If you're normally saying no to eighty percent of opportunities, maybe say yes to like thirty five percent.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: And just like start to get warm up with that muscle and have some bummer because it does lead to everything.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_02]: Everything leads to everything.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast where we talk about taking messy action knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also Logan, prize instructor and fitness business coach.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self doubt.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to the beat till you see the interview recap where my co-host and life Brad and I are going to dig into the trail-based in combo.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Can I say that one more time?
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Dig into the trail, bro.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, maybe you can't.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: I might not be able to.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Wave it in.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: Dig into the trail-blazing combo.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: I had with Sarah Rhodes in our last episode.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't yet, listen to that.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: So you should you'll also hear me fuck up her the name of her business right after she told me exactly how not to say it and I just want to post my Sarah you told me I heard you I was like yeah, don't call that and then call it that and I just want to say like it was an intentional
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, we'll get into Sarah Rhodes and her amazingness in just a second.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: But today is August, when he first, twenty twenty five and it's internet self care day.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: So after this, probably get off the internet is what it's gonna say.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: But listen to this first.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Internet self care day is celebrated each year on August, twenty first.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: This holiday is dedicated to using the internet to, oh, actually, it's different than I thought.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yes it is.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Using internet to find resources.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: I can help you take care of yourself.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Many of us are so preoccupied with taking care of others, whether it work or at home, but we forget to take care of ourselves.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Not these be it pod listeners, right?
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Self-care is described as caring for oneself.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: The real frags is that promote, I just love how they use the word, the definition, the definition of self-care is described as caring for oneself.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: through practices that promote health and active management of illness when it strikes.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: There are many ways to regularly practice self-care through food choices, exercise sleep, and dental care for example, dental care.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a form of self-care.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Also going into your annual visits are a form of self-care.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: I say drinking enough water is a form of self-care, like self-care can be free.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think the doctor's office visit thing is a big deal.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, because it's so hard to get the appointment.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's so easy to ignore them.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's more people to get me a doctor's appointment.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a rabbit hole, right?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: And that's, that's half the problem is like, you always set the start with your GP and then your GP has to refer you to these other places in the low, low, low, low, low, whatever.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: But the point is that like it's, it's a, you know, it's a multiple step.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's such a multi step process and there's so much time between that like it just feels like one of the things we're like, I'll get to an eventually.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then eventually, like, oh, should it's been like a few years.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been years.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: But if you do the hardest way, one of an artist states could be actually like making your doctor's appointments because they're so hard to do.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: They're not normal, right?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Just like to do.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, if you are in the US and you're trying to navigate your way through this shit hole of a health care system, I see you.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: I hear you.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone gets to pick a cause in this world and if that's gonna be yours like I will champion it with you all highlight on your side like a big fan of dog rescues, but like I got a girlfriend who's we have a friend who's husband just had a random stroke.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's fucking our age.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: And she is stuck in another state and she can't get her insurance will cover the helicopter from Detroit to Denver.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: And she can't get Kaiser to design this one piece paper.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: So they're stuck in a hospital for now we're going on seven days waiting for someone to sign the piece paper.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, what do I do on my local news?
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we have to do.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, go find me on local news.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, self care is going to your doctor by my meds.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Take care of yourself.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: Also take care of yourself because clearly medical systems can't take care of you.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: So you can care for yourself today.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they're, they're, yes, they can't take care of you.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: And they're not going to be reliable in the near future either.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: But if you heard not from Jevity, I really do like them and they are a great go between because they are the actually answer my questions and they.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: But that's the irony.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about a third party company, not the healthcare system.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, right, right.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: They better have their shit together.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, they do.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: And they're good for them for that.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_02]: But also what the fuck?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: I had to go pay on something on top of what I already pay for it to get the help.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's cheaper than mean sick.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: So here.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: And also like it has helped me.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: They've had with my hormone therapy.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: They have my sleep.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: They have my digestion.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: So that's an act of self care.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, that got became a healthcare self care day.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: But well, look a little move on today.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: We are back from our tour, and we are getting ready to go to the UK.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh wait, there's one more self-care I want to talk about.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh what?
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: OPC.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: OPC is absolutely a great way.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: You're the internet that's safe.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: Well I ask and get you a movement on on my Pilates classes.com.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to give OPC a shout out an amazing way.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: So in today's world, where everyone's trying to sell you on some gimmick bullshit of what Pilates is.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Pilates arms and how you have to look a certain way.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Lock that at OPC, we will never sell you on weight loss.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: We will never tell you that you have to get that Pilates will make your buy a look a certain way, but we will make you strong as fuck and make sure you have the longevity for the life you want to live.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: You will have so much support.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: If you only take five minutes of a class, we will still cheer you on in championship you.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: If you miss a week and you're like, oh my god, I missed it.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: We will like that's okay.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: You're here today.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like you have unconditional constant support of people, a bunch of women in a few good men, constantly supporting you no matter what you look like, where you're at and your practice, how old you are, what you can do.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: The community's great.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's freaking awesome.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: and pissed off this week, but we're recording this.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's obviously a different thing you're listening to it, but if you were on my Instagram, I'm so pissed off at the way people think they can talk about women's bodies and what a body's supposed to look like, and Pilates arms, and the New York fucking times.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: It'll hold episode on Pilates arms, or episode.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: article and the opinion page on pilates arm and really yes they did and then because I can't read it's behind a paywall and I'm too pissed to give a money they try to attribute it to political beliefs let me explain you right now there's no such thing as pilates arm so there's no way in how pilates can be a right or left
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: situation.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: But if you have arms, you can do pulleys, congratulations, pulleys, arms.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Core relation is not causation.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like people try to use Jennifer Anison as like, oh, Jennifer Anison's arms are because of the plies.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, Jennifer Anison arms are because she's Jennifer Aniston, who happens to do pulleys.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like anyways, so at OPC, we'll never sell you on that chip because that they're lying to you.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: We are honest people about Pilates being here for your longevity for the health of it for the self-care of it.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, okay, I'll get off.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: Especially the self-care of it.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: So love that.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Go off my high horse.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: September is coming and we're going to be in the UK.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: We're very excited to be coming back.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's been two years since we've been there.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be in two locations.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: We leads.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be in Essex.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: Love that is near you or if you know anyone who's in the area, even if they have to drive a couple of hours, we're flying halfway across the world to be there.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: We'd love to meet them.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually driving all the way to Essex.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: We are, we are driving, we're driving all the way up to Scotland and all the way back down to Essex.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and we don't even drive on that side of the road.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: So you can go on a train.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll be driving for more than twenty hours in the UK.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: You can fly from Europe to CS, okay?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: No excuses.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: Go to OPC dot me slash UK, OPC dot me slash UK.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then in October, we're going to be a Pilates on tour in Chicago, in Burridge.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, it's really funny.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's people like there's no such thing as Chicago and but then Rachel Madagos, I love Chicago because it has this thing called Chicago land.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's a thing will be in per inch.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's the sexiest part of Chicago.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know it.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, last week, so last week when we recorded this, so a month ago, more than a month ago, it was seventy five percent sold out.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: So don't wait to get your tickets like you can get a day pass.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: You can get a weekend pass.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it might only be those left.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so on teaching the Joe's gems, we're going to have a booth.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's also a ten year wedding anniversary.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: So come celebrate with us.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, actually literally that weekend.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the first time we're going to play a while the time changes and we miss it all together.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: So so check it out.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Just to Google POT Chicago and the link is way too long.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't give us a short one.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Then we're going to be in Cambodia and you can join us go to crosenessretreats.com.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can literally sign up even as close to two weeks before the retreat because it's it's Cambodia.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: Or if you come in from Singapore or Australia, it's really easy.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: So easy.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'd love to come have you come join us across nester treats.com.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Also, actual, we're because my team just thinks all this work every day.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kidding.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kidding.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's days off.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: There's days off.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: We are liking on making a Singapore event happen because it's very rare that we have a layover during the daytime.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: So we were later in the daytime.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: And so we can do an event at Singapore.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: So reach out to us about that.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then our winter tour is going to be in December.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be Hugh Mungus.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: And while I sit in this one, this one's going to be even bigger than last year.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm already we're already planning it right now in the summer.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: We're already planning it.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be opening the door.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: So all that stuff in October.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: So while we're off around the world, you can be signing up for that winter tour.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: So make sure you watch out for that.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, before we get into a Sarah Rhodes, we have a question to answer.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: We sure did.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is from a friend.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: How are you Billings?
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: She DMDU and said, hey, do you like your waitfest needing to get one, but I can't figure out what size or configuration would make most sense for me.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: I also don't want to look ridiculous, but I think I might just have to get over that.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I do have a link to, here's a go.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, it's not a sexy company.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: You're in a providing Amazon.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I have the link to the one I like.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll put that in the show notes.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Check the show notes.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Why do you like the one that one?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: What is it about it that made so I know we're going through a couple.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we're going back to the one I like because the one that I have, I don't I don't like the one that I have currently and that's why I told her so I like the one I had before I traded with two right.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: because her husband bought her a twenty pound vest, she's not a hundred pounds, guys.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, so here's the information about a weighted vest.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: You want one that's around ten percent, maybe fifteen percent of your body weight, okay?
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what you want, and
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's a company that is called, like, oh, Morpho.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm trying to get.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: So when they share, I try to eat, no, I didn't share that with her.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: I try, I have an affiliate to that and I don't like do the best or sexy and they're useless.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: It is two pounds or four pounds for women and then six or eight pounds for men.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: what and their three hundred dollars.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: So don't buy that one until I tell you too, which is when they I said, oh, I'll promote your vests when you have a weighted vests that actually makes sense with science.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it's beautiful, sexy, not ridiculous looking, a waste of three hundred dollars and it doesn't even do what you need to do.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: So the vests that I like, honestly, we tell on the weight that you're getting, it's like between thirty and sixty dollars.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's not expensive.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Where I think people have to be considered is if they have chest abundance.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: If you have chest abundance, you might want to look at the one that I currently have, which I couldn't find online, but I'll tell you what it looks like.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: It has bungee cords on the sides.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a men's one.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: It has bungee cords on the sides.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: So it works and it's longer.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: So if you have boobs, because the bungee cords can be loosened and because it's longer, it can go
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: across the before.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: The one that will put in the link to the show notes is the one I like.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: I can't I can't attest to the chest abundance because I don't have it.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: But why I like it is it's actually short more like a crop.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's not going all in on my lower back.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't I don't like that because my lower back then sweats.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's it is the wait feels more distributed around my whole body.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: This one that I have just feels like it's very much on my shoulders, but maybe it's because I don't have boobs, maybe five boobs.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think it's also that it's too heavy.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's also mine's too heavy.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's twenty pounds.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I really should be on a sixteen pound weighted best.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: So Brad, congratulations.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: You have a vest.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the exactly what you wanted.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: More than ten percent of my body weight.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: So twenty pound.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, it is.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, I don't know who's going to get it.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm, I'm new at the sixteen pound one.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: I would say like most people should start with that twelve to fifteen pound.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: If that's ten percent, if you're like, oh, that sounds really heavy, fifteen pounds.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Start with a ten to twelve.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: You can all, they, they'll last forever, just give them to a friend who wants to start it, like, it just make creative exchange like a book club.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but check the show notes.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: I really like wearing mine on morning walks because here's my dog walks.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now that I have a, a loop down that shows me how literally useless, a dog walk is on your health.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, of course, it's lovely.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's nice.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: You're outside.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: But you're getting steps.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: So they're getting steps.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's so great for that second heart.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it is doing zero on the strain that you can put on your body.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: And so adding the weight vest kind of intensifies the walk by about fifteen percent.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: So if you are looking for added that intensity, maybe you're really busy person.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's really good.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: Apparently there is some science around how it's really good if you are pregnant a puzzle.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to puzzle an increasing bone density, strongly that all those things I can't tell you.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: But Dr. McClayer has an opposed about it.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's a guy
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: something Easter Adam or David Easter, he's in a whole post about it.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're really curious, take a look at those things, but I just personally like it because it really challenged me to sit up really tall.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: I can't force you to keep you can't be lean and over.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, it wouldn't.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, you gotta be slouching.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: You feel it.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: Should wear weight, that's why it's pod maybe I won't move all around the place drive Brad.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't believe it.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: Well, if you have a question, you can text us at three one.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, nine oh five five three four or if you don't want to text, you can just go to be at pod.com slash questions and you could submit either a win or your question and we want your wins.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: We do want your wins because of our Friday episode.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: Share something that you're really proud of yourself for.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like, it's, it's, don't worry.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's not bragging.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: If you're like, I can't do it.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Then share a friend's win.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then you'll trap the seal and then you can share your own.
- 14:54[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go pull out your phone right now.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: Go to be a pod.com slash questions.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Your win can literally be that you took a walk this morning.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I want to see.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see some wins next week.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Keep ever woken up on the wrong side of the bat.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, and then you go for the walk.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like the win is that you didn't let the keep you from like making the day a better day.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Just saying.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: You got this.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right, stick around.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to dig into this amazing combo you have with Sarah Rhodes about some really cool shoes that she's been making.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, welcome back.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about Sarah Rhodes.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: Sarah is a photographer turned entrepreneur and the founder of Combie Footwear.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: After a successful career shooting for top brands like kids and building a creative campaign, building creative campaigns with her husband, she made a bold pivot into footwear design to solve a problem she's personally faced.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: Together, she and her husband developed a modular, supported shoe system, even taught himself AutoCAD to help the prototype their designs.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to talk more about it because they're fun.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: But Sarah is actually a mom of three at a firm believer in curiosity and alignment.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: Her story is a master class in vision grit and reinvention and it was a really fun conversation.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_02]: It was a very bubbly I just like her.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: She's also a dorms.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: I hope to meet her in person.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: So the shoes came on my radar and I like, you know, if you listen to this podcast long enough, you know, like, I love to be cooking.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's the greatest thing because, like, I don't know if you want something, but you don't want to write that.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want it by right now.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes you want to see it a few times see, like, do I really want this?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do I miss it?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: But anyways, I'd interview the gate happens people and they like slammed.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: on our Birkenstocks and it was like a B-minus.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't a slam.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it was a B-minus.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: That episode, she said, she said, they're not, they're not the best.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: They're not the worst.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: But also in the B. It was a B-minus.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: She said that the problem with them was that they're too stiff.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and so.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: They really help with forming your foot, but then like there's never any give.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: So it's training your foot not to actually work.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: So they actually are not doing the things that they say they're going to do.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: So then I saw Comey and I saw these girls doing these ads, but how they wear them and how they use them.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wow, it's really cool.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think this could solve the world's problems on like the where thing and else they're much cuter, right?
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: They're like not so they're much sexier.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: But what makes why come.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: So what is called the whole thing.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: But then I so anyways, so then I ordered a pair.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so order a pair during the winter or some sandals order the pair and then I Took a picture with them and the oh I actually I asked a question.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: I said, oh, when in the shearling's gonna come back and the owner Sarah DM me right away I just owner we're out of stock on those right now, but like here I'll get back to you to do that I was like whoa She does her DM like I do my DMs I like this person as a person right?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: I now now I'm past the company now.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm into the person
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Then I got the shoes, took a picture in Palm Springs, and she's like, oh my gosh, she's starting chatting back and forth.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then I was like looking at her story and I'm like, I want her on the beat pod because like, if this isn't a beat till you see it story, like I don't know what is, right?
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like she's not a shoe person, she's not a pediatrist, she's a photographer, and she like created a shoe.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: So now what is, what is it?
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, why is it called comedy?
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what that's the weird name for the shoe, unless you understand what the shoe
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, so to answer why was I asked not surely because you can take the, you know, like, hugs have that like sheer lean bed.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then you wear it a few times and then it gets matted and nasty.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, her shoe, you can take that sheer lean bed out and you could put a Terry cloth bed in, you could put
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: it's to the bed of the soul of the shoe splits into and the the bottom of the shoe stays and then the the soul itself the inside the shoe can be you like there's there's definitely something in the eighties fashion that like this is absolutely something we've done like it's like a mix and match
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: things combination, right?
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like some mix and you can mix and match the beds of the shoe.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: And now I have like five beds and I mix and match them all the time.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the last teams we have, it's because I had a flight of stocked in for like, seventeen hours.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: And for flight, I wore the Terry cloth because, you know, like sometimes your hot, sometimes your colds or where the Terry cloth took the beds out through my purse.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: I only had an overnight bag because I was wearing the same outfit twice.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Put the red leather beds in.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Look, dressy for the dinner party.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: Went back to my hotel, put the red leather up, put it in my purse, put the Terry cloth on, flew home and nice and come for like a slipper.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, it's like, I'm just obsessed and she's so cool.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about her because it's not an ad for her shoe.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: We make no money on them.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: She said, when my curiosity really is peaked and I feel scared and terrified, I usually know that is a thing I need to go after.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I resonate with that so much.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like we resist like what we resist will persist and like you have to kind of go through the fear to get to where you want to go.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: And she highlighted the hardest part of her pivot was getting over herself limiting beliefs.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like can you imagine like being a photographer, like a very established photographer, like fucking Taylor Swift guys, kids.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: all the stuff and she's like, I'm gonna do my own shoe.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: And like products are so hard.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: Product businesses.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: She said she blew the China to meet with her, the manufacturing company and there was a problem with the design.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: And so she bought a one way ticket.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: Because she said, I'm not coming back until we've figured out the solution.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: So because the and on and by the way, most shoes are made in China.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's where all the factories are.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is made there.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: So so so for our flashcards, apparently.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we could we have a choice.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: We do have a company in Florida for those.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, there are like some clothing brands that we've had Ripley, Raider, and there's some other brands that can make their clothes in the US.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: However, you need to understand that there's not a single zipper made in the United States.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: So the parts of it are still being imported and like
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so but but she I want to keep going like she just the perseverance and like she put a quote on her iPhone lock screen.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: This is what if you have what it takes and I really love this.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: I like need it somewhere.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: I can see it all the time.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: What if you have what it takes?
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think like what she kind of obsesses about is like I'm deeply curious about what the edges of my ability.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: What am I capable of?
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: What are the edges?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: What are the edges?
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: And to find that out.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: I have to go the edge of my fear and look over it.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like to
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: To, for you, a first all to be until we see it, it's going to require us to face our fear and look at it and believe we have what it takes because you got to dress for who you want to be, you've got to act for who you want to be, you've got to make decisions for who you want to be, even though you're not there yet.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: I bet you that.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I relate to this in the sense of like being on stage.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, when you're on stage of the group, you can hide when you're on stage and you're the front at the front, you can't hide.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: And or if you're the only person, you know, and I bet you that most Pilates teachers who have done group class the first few times were really intimidating.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right where you have to be up front of a bunch of people speaking, right, and at first that was probably like something that was a little bit scary, but over time you start to get through it, right?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: And that I think that's the kind of fear that she was talking about that like, you know, one thing that I really love that she said was everything is working out for my greater good.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: Everything is working out for us, right?
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: She and her husband, they say this daily to themselves, especially when challenges show up.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: This is like their mantra and they genuinely believe that this helps to shift the focus away from the challenges that are impacting their businesses.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: which always happen always challenges just seem to come by right so but when you're focusing on the positive that's one of the things that we that we challenge all of our members inside of agency as well hey when you're gonna ask a question about a problem you have before you do that you have to celebrate a win or to tell something that you're grateful for
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: Right, and the reason is the same here.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: When you focus that everything is working out for us, everything is working out for my greater good.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: When you focus on those things, you're more apt to see those things.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: When you say to yourself, everything is shit, I hate it all.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: You're just going to see all the things that are shit you hate it all.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about this before.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember what episode, but it was like count the number.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you say, if you look at something blue and you say blue, right?
- 23:20[SPEAKER_02]: You look like blue.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's actually an episode that's coming out.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's Brad Bizjack.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't think we talked about that.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, it's yeah, but you want to talk about it before and like all of a sudden, you know, you start to see all the things that are red or all the things that are blue because you've focused on them.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: So it's the same exact idea here.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I just I love that.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's great, you know, and she said that
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the other thing with being an entrepreneur, she said, sometimes you tackle something and it doesn't, it seems like a dud.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I started this whole conversation with these people about this thing and then nothing ever came to it or, you know, whatever, whatever and like, you know, it seems like where do I put my time and all the things and she said, hey, everything leads to everything.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: everything leads to everything, right?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: So being part of an entrepreneur is being someone who has an appetite for adventure, being, you know, being willing to explore.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: She said, there's no trail, no map.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: You're just kind of in the woods with a machete, right?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: And it's that you're out there trying to figure it all out.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: And every time you make a new connection, you know, you might not have any, like, reciprocation from that action today, but they're will, you know, like eventually things can are connected.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: It comes back.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: Also, like sometimes, like just having a conversation to hit the dead end allows you to get more comfortable than idea that you might have had fear around.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then when you have it with a different person, you have a whole different perspective, because you sent the first time you're voicing it.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: I always tell some of our agency members, I was like, I taught a woman.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: She took a first time session with me during a time that a client was on vacation.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't normally have that time to climb a vacation for one week, but she came in for a first time session and none of my other times worked out for her.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so I actually had to refer to a friend.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: But do you want to know something?
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: Love me so much.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: She sent me a ton of clients.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is everything.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: So she didn't, why didn't she send to my friend who she couldn't, I don't know.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: But she sent me them.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the point is like,
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: Don't go, oh, I'm not going to teach that person.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to take that opportunity because I've only been able this one time.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, just go have the conversation.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can always be like, that was really cool.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: Here is this other person, like, I'm someone who, like, sometimes has to hermit.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: I get a little overwhelmed.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I totally understand if you're like, I don't want to go do that, but like,
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to see as to all of the things, but try it.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: Try just going like, you know, if you're normally saying no to eighty percent of opportunities, maybe maybe say yes to like, thirty five percent.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: And just like start to get warm up with that muscle and have some bummer because it does lead to everything.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: Everything leads to everything.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: We'll stick around.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back because we got more gold coming down.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Sarah Rhodes in the be it action items.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about those be it action items.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: What bold executable intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your combo with Sarah Rhodes?
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: She said stick with it.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: Stick it out.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: And you two were having this really fun conversations about the overnight success of the actor.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: And like having lived in Los Angeles, we are very aware that like it's a slow, long road to it's very, very rare that someone is like an overnight success.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really cool book that I just heard about where this, I forget the name.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: I won't come to me, but he literally, like the tagline is like my twenty years to overnight success.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that's the joke, right?
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's the running joke.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: And you were talking about behind the scenes, right?
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: The building phase.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's truly one of the hardest phases because no one can actually see what you're doing.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: And she said that they just launched their company last, end of last year, but they've been working on it for three.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: And she said, Oh, yeah.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like I saw the ads on like, Oh, my God, they're a huge company.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: She's dammit me and her husband, emails customer sports.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: So they're both working.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: They answer everything, right?
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: She said, it's really hard to do the work, the building phase work.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: And because because no one around you can see the vision or the results of where it's going to be, where it's going to go.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: And you have it in your head.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_02]: And sometimes it's hard to
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: convince other people that this is going to be the things going to be amazing, but you know it will be and that's that's the thing you have to trust yourself, right?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: She said really good things are on the other side of the building phase of when you're able to finally open the doors get, you know, launch your product or introduce your book or whatever it might be like the amount of prep time it takes to do it right, you know, you have to be able to believe in yourself and so
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think the key thing in there was like, oh, do trust yourself?
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do you?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: So she said, knowing deep in your soul that everything's working out for you and knowing that anyone can do anything.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: What a be it.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, anyone can do anything.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: So why can't you do the thing you want to do?
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Because any then can do anything.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: And she emphasized the importance of protecting autonomy pretty fiercely to avoid burnout.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say fiercely.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: Protect your autonomy fiercely.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: One of the reasons I see people burn out is they don't protect their Tommy.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: They are afraid of losing a client or of pissing off a friend.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: So they just say yes to all these things and their schedules not their own, their schedules being formed by other people's schedules.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like the whole idea, like if you don't have goals, someone else has goals for you.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't protect your Tommy, someone else will make sure your schedule is theirs.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I was gonna go.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: She prioritizes self-care through specific regular habits.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: She's also part of an amazing book club and she makes time for it.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that is so cool.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: She hikes and gets out to nature three days a week.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: She stays connected to make things that make her feel alive, not just what makes money.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: And she advised, trusting yourself and believing in yourself.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: So with that trust keeps coming up, you guys, let me just remind you, Rachel, Drynne, and they're not older when I asked her.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure they were, like, underkin.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: So like, yeah, yeah.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty sure actually now I don't remember, but yeah, I don't think that's enough.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: Not a single one of them can drive themselves anywhere.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: So here's what my point being, like this is a mom and a business owner who works with her husband and if she can protect her autonomy fiercely, you can do it.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: You can do it.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's hard.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he's learning it pissed off because you're changing the boundaries on them.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: You're changing the rules.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: They will get over it because you're going to be a funer person to be around.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's just what I think.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Sarah Rhodes, you're amazing.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: I love you so much.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you can be friends.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: Me too.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: I have just, what if she's listening?
