- 0:48Grab a plate, tune in now,
- 0:50you part of the fam.
- 0:55It's lunchtime.
- 0:58What is going on, everybody?
- 0:59Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdale,
- 1:02Cowboy and Kate.
- 1:06We have Kate Curry with us today.
- 1:07We are so excited to have her.
- 1:10Hey, guys.
- 1:11Games athlete, Kate Curry.
- 1:14Put some respect on that woman's name.
- 1:15Two-time games athlete.
- 1:19That's right.
- 1:19Look, there we go.
- 1:21Two-time, two-time.
- 1:23Well, I'm so excited to have you on.
- 1:26I've decided we're going to do one
- 1:27interview a week and I'm just going to
- 1:29have the people on that I like to
- 1:31talk to and I like to hang out
- 1:33with.
- 1:33And I thought,
- 1:34who better the week before the CrossFit
- 1:36Games than two-time CrossFit Games
- 1:39athlete, Kate Curry.
- 1:42Thanks, Scott.
- 1:43I'm stoked to be here.
- 1:44And I mentioned that hopefully internet
- 1:47issues aren't terrible.
- 1:48I can hear you guys beautifully,
- 1:50but if there's a delay or if my...
- 1:52camera gets a little funky.
- 1:54I'm sorry about that,
- 1:55but really excited to talk to you.
- 1:56I try to join this as much as
- 1:58I can from work to hang with the
- 2:00lunchtime crew,
- 2:00so it's cool to be on it today.
- 2:02Yeah,
- 2:03I think it's a cool thing when people
- 2:05try to get out of work to listen
- 2:06to my show.
- 2:08Yeah, no kidding.
- 2:09When do you actually eat lunch?
- 2:11If everybody's doing this at lunchtime,
- 2:13when is everybody eating?
- 2:15So it all depends on if I have
- 2:17meetings right after this.
- 2:19So usually I have like everything prepped
- 2:21to go like in the microwave as soon
- 2:22as I'm done and I'll eat at my
- 2:26desk as I'm working.
- 2:29And I have to delay it however long
- 2:31the meetings go.
- 2:36I'll do a snack right before the show.
- 2:38Yeah.
- 2:39Yeah.
- 2:41I usually do this,
- 2:41go make my lunch and then eat while
- 2:43I'm working.
- 2:44Yeah,
- 2:45I'm a later lunch eater just because I
- 2:47have the two breakfasts, right?
- 2:48Like the pre-training breakfast and then
- 2:50the post-training breakfast.
- 2:52So that tides me over until a little
- 2:54bit later in the afternoon.
- 2:55So I'm actually doing okay right now.
- 2:56I think I'll make it through without
- 2:57getting too hungry.
- 2:59So you're like the third person that
- 3:00talked about two breakfasts this week that
- 3:03I've talked to.
- 3:04And so is it two full breakfasts or
- 3:08is it like a protein shake breakfast and
- 3:10then like a real breakfast?
- 3:12How do you break that down?
- 3:15I mean,
- 3:15the first one's definitely a little
- 3:17lighter,
- 3:17but it's still pretty significant.
- 3:19I'll have like overnight oats with protein
- 3:22and Greek yogurt and berries and a cup
- 3:25of coffee before I go to the gym.
- 3:27I eat that at like five thirty in
- 3:28the morning and then we'll have some carb
- 3:32sources while I'm training.
- 3:33And when I get home later,
- 3:34I have like the bigger breakfast.
- 3:36That's like the egg whites,
- 3:37the turkey sausage,
- 3:39the bagel that there's a lot more volume
- 3:42in that lately.
- 3:43So
- 3:43they're both pretty significant but the
- 3:45second one is the bigger of the two
- 3:47how do you feel about pocket jerky what's
- 3:52pocket you just keep it in your pocket
- 3:54what is pocket jerky uh there are times
- 3:57when i'm in a hurry and i just
- 4:00grab it and i put it in my
- 4:01pocket and i'll nibble on it when i
- 4:04can like during a meeting or during the
- 4:06show or whatever
- 4:09Sometimes it's,
- 4:10it's hoodie jerky where I'll just put it
- 4:12in my pouch.
- 4:13Oh, I get in your hoodie.
- 4:14Got it.
- 4:15It's like emergency, emergency jerky.
- 4:18You never know when you might need it.
- 4:19Good protein source.
- 4:21I support that.
- 4:22You know, get it when you can.
- 4:23It's there in a pinch.
- 4:24Like, I feel like if I am not,
- 4:27if I'm traveling and I don't have some
- 4:28sort of snack with me,
- 4:30there's a little bit of like anxiety.
- 4:32So if you can keep that at bay
- 4:33with a little bit of pocket jerky,
- 4:35like more power to you.
- 4:37Uh, this, I do not do pocket tots.
- 4:40Not, I mean,
- 4:41you have some of your tots.
- 4:43Somebody needs to patent that.
- 4:44That's not a bad idea.
- 4:47I would be so down with pocket tots.
- 4:49I would want to represent be in with
- 4:50some pocket tots.
- 4:51I love tater tots.
- 4:52Uh,
- 4:53glad needs to come out with like a
- 4:54pocket liner.
- 4:56You know,
- 4:56they came out with a crock pot liner
- 4:58and all that little pocket liner.
- 5:00So that way you don't get any fuzz
- 5:01on it.
- 5:02Like Jay Birch is talking about.
- 5:05Dude,
- 5:05lint makes you a man if you eat
- 5:07it.
- 5:08Like,
- 5:09just put a little hair on your chest,
- 5:10it'll be fine.
- 5:12Yeah, growing up, you know,
- 5:13you'd always ask your mom for the candy
- 5:15out of her purse,
- 5:16and she'd have to blow it off,
- 5:17you know,
- 5:18because anything that got on the candy
- 5:20from the... Stuff off of it?
- 5:21Yeah.
- 5:22There you go, boy.
- 5:25And now Kate gets to firsthand experience
- 5:27off the rails show.
- 5:29It's fun.
- 5:32I'm all for it.
- 5:32You're welcome.
- 5:35I love a tangent.
- 5:39So you actually have a day job because
- 5:42Masters athletes don't have the luxury of
- 5:44like full sponsorships and doing all that.
- 5:49What do you do during the day?
- 5:53Oh, no.
- 5:55No.
- 6:01Apparently not pay her internet bill was
- 6:03pretty tops on the list of what she
- 6:05does during the day.
- 6:07I will give her an opportunity to get
- 6:08back in, but that was,
- 6:11that's the most abrupt leave I've ever
- 6:13seen.
- 6:14Maybe she didn't want to talk about her
- 6:15day job.
- 6:16Maybe it's top secret.
- 6:17So Mark Phillips just said,
- 6:20he got too personal.
- 6:21You asked too many questions.
- 6:24Yeah.
- 6:25Yeah.
- 6:25Maybe she's a spy.
- 6:27it's entirely possible.
- 6:28And she can't talk about it.
- 6:29The government actually just shut it down
- 6:31is what it is.
- 6:32Holy smokes.
- 6:34That was abrupt.
- 6:35That was abrupt.
- 6:36Yeah.
- 6:37Well, while she's doing that,
- 6:38I do have a couple of quick updates.
- 6:39One is I just got noticed that my
- 6:42shirts are delayed.
- 6:43They are in a cargo ship.
- 6:45So they actually are in a cargo ship.
- 6:49Somewhere.
- 6:50So there is a,
- 6:51there is a fairly good possibility.
- 6:54I'm not going to have them for the
- 6:56games.
- 7:01And she's back.
- 7:02Hey, there she is.
- 7:03Sorry.
- 7:05No, don't apologize.
- 7:06It's fine, dude.
- 7:07It just adds comedy to the day.
- 7:10No, it's so annoying.
- 7:12And I was telling you guys,
- 7:13like I work from home to try to
- 7:14make this easier today.
- 7:15And then my internet,
- 7:17the internet gods are not in my favor.
- 7:19It's all right.
- 7:21It was perfect timing because God's like,
- 7:23so what do you do?
- 7:24And then you just went black.
- 7:26what do you do and that's the universe
- 7:29saying like nobody actually cares what i
- 7:31do outside of crossfit i think right well
- 7:34we made up the story that you're a
- 7:35spy and the government shut you down yeah
- 7:39correct
- 7:43I've been compromised,
- 7:44so I got to go again.
- 7:45Yeah, no, I'm an interior designer,
- 7:47so I work in architecture.
- 7:51It's a global firm.
- 7:52We have offices all over the world,
- 7:53but I work in our DC studio.
- 7:57uh recently have pivoted to focus on
- 7:59sports and it's our sports recreation and
- 8:03entertainment practice so big focus on
- 8:05collegiate athletics right now which is
- 8:07really rad as a former college athlete
- 8:10getting to design spaces for student
- 8:13athletes and coaches and fans and just
- 8:15like thinking about that experience has
- 8:17been really really special after doing
- 8:19this for a long time to start focusing
- 8:22specifically in that world again and like
- 8:24really being able to combine like my
- 8:27passions for CrossFit and wellness and
- 8:29nutrition and recovery with what I'm doing
- 8:31professionally.
- 8:32It's like really special.
- 8:34And it's interesting,
- 8:35the SAP Center where the elites will be
- 8:38competing next week is a project of my
- 8:40firm's that we're actively working on
- 8:42right now with the San Jose Sharks.
- 8:44So I told all the guys that are
- 8:47working on the project that I'll make sure
- 8:48to go around and take credit for
- 8:50everything next week when folks are
- 8:54Infiltrating SAP.
- 8:56Look at what I did.
- 8:57Look at what I did.
- 8:58I had nothing to do with the project.
- 9:00But I'd be like, oh, you like that?
- 9:02Exactly.
- 9:02It doesn't matter.
- 9:04Are you going to tell them that CrossFit
- 9:06HQ isn't allowing you in the building,
- 9:08though?
- 9:08You have to go to an adjacent building
- 9:10down the street.
- 9:13Well,
- 9:13I'll get to go at least on Friday
- 9:15to watch the elites when they compete
- 9:18there.
- 9:18So I'll get in when I'm done.
- 9:22I guess they opened it up for the
- 9:24whole weekend now for Masters athletes.
- 9:27That's a rumor on the street.
- 9:31That is a rumor on the street.
- 9:32Yes.
- 9:32And I know you mentioned we got that
- 9:38information.
- 9:40After the fact.
- 9:41So we had reserved our travel and our
- 9:43Airbnbs and so forth.
- 9:45So we'll be able to go on Friday,
- 9:47but then not stick around for the rest
- 9:49of the weekend, unfortunately.
- 9:50We're heading south to San Luis Obispo for
- 9:53a couple days afterward.
- 9:54Oh, nice.
- 9:56That's really nice.
- 9:57I tried to get my wife to come
- 9:58with me.
- 9:58I hope it's nice.
- 9:59It looks cute.
- 10:01To do some sightseeing and stuff after,
- 10:03but it just didn't work out.
- 10:07I like that.
- 10:08It seems nice.
- 10:09San Luis Obispo.
- 10:10That's where Grunler's at.
- 10:14Oh, that's where Bill lives.
- 10:17At least she froze like in a like
- 10:19it's a pretty pose.
- 10:20Yeah.
- 10:21It's a nice picture.
- 10:22It's a nice picture.
- 10:26Anyway, yeah.
- 10:27San Luis Obispo.
- 10:27That's where Bill Grunler's at.
- 10:30But he's probably going to be at the
- 10:31games all weekend.
- 10:32He probably won't actually be at his
- 10:33place.
- 10:40So I think now we have the delay.
- 10:41Can you guys hear me again or no?
- 10:42Hey, there we go.
- 10:43We can.
- 10:43Okay.
- 10:49I can hear you guys again.
- 10:52I'm sorry, y'all.
- 10:52It's fine, Kate.
- 10:56It's absolutely fine.
- 11:01So you say you played college sports.
- 11:03What was your athletic background?
- 11:08Oh, no.
- 11:13This is fantastic.
- 11:15When you come back.
- 11:18So John George,
- 11:18she is in the forty to forty four
- 11:20year old division.
- 11:21Yes, she is.
- 11:22This is year three.
- 11:25She will be in the third tier of
- 11:27that.
- 11:28Let me.
- 11:31Try this again.
- 11:32I'm trying again,
- 11:34so we'll see if that's any better.
- 11:35Oh.
- 11:35It's fine, dude.
- 11:39Yeah.
- 11:42You were saying I'm forty forty two.
- 11:44So, yeah,
- 11:46this is my third year in the forty
- 11:48to forty four division.
- 11:50Do you you play college sports?
- 11:55What what kind of background do you have?
- 12:01I was a gymnast,
- 12:02so I did Division one gymnastics many
- 12:05moons ago,
- 12:07but that
- 12:09obviously translate,
- 12:10that helps with CrossFit.
- 12:11But after college,
- 12:13so when you're sort of like forced in
- 12:16retirement at twenty-two,
- 12:17I ran marathons for about eight years.
- 12:20So I undid any semblance of like fast
- 12:23twitch muscles or like explosive power
- 12:26that I'd had from gymnastics that would
- 12:27have been really beneficial for CrossFit.
- 12:29Like I completely got rid of all of
- 12:30that by running twelve marathons before I
- 12:34eventually
- 12:35joined the fun uh i started crossfit like
- 12:38right before i turned thirty four so i
- 12:42don't know what that math is like eight
- 12:43years ago does that math math correctly so
- 12:48so it's twenty eighteen yeah like at the
- 12:51very end of twenty seventeen the twenty
- 12:53eighteen open was my first like foray so
- 12:56we are we are so similar as far
- 12:58as that's concerned because i was right
- 13:00after the open in twenty eighteen oh cool
- 13:03Only you've been to the games and not
- 13:05yet.
- 13:06Not yet.
- 13:08Keyword on yet.
- 13:09You dove in like headfirst because you
- 13:14went age group.
- 13:16They've called it different things,
- 13:17but basically age group semifinals.
- 13:20Like a year after you started,
- 13:22you've done it every year since.
- 13:24Yeah, so it was pretty eye opening.
- 13:27I had that one year in the third,
- 13:30whatever,
- 13:30the eighteen to thirty four division and
- 13:33seeing how well I did in the open
- 13:35after having started it a couple of months
- 13:38prior, like I was like, oh,
- 13:39I could maybe be competitive in this when
- 13:41I age up to master.
- 13:42So you have been doing it for a
- 13:44while and I always did quite well,
- 13:46but I was not with really and I
- 13:48think my best finish
- 13:50Well, I guess in twenty twenty three,
- 13:52it was Jamie and I were both like
- 13:54the old ladies in the thirty five to
- 13:56thirty nine division.
- 13:58And we were top thirty that year because
- 14:00it was a really small field for semis,
- 14:03but only ten made it to the games.
- 14:06So I was kind of there,
- 14:07but not quite within reach for that entire
- 14:10thirty five to thirty nine.
- 14:13age group and then aged up at forty,
- 14:16made it by the skin of my teeth,
- 14:18which was great.
- 14:19And then last year was on the outside
- 14:20looking in.
- 14:21So excited to go back.
- 14:24Don't go there quite yet.
- 14:25Oh, sorry.
- 14:26I'm too fast.
- 14:27Slow down.
- 14:27Pump the brakes.
- 14:28No, no, no, no.
- 14:29I want to show something first.
- 14:32So I was diving through my old
- 14:34documentary.
- 14:35Oh, man.
- 14:36Because my interview with you is one of
- 14:38my favorite things that happened during
- 14:40that documentary.
- 14:43And I just have to say,
- 14:45that documentary is probably the thing I'm
- 14:46most proud of that I've ever done in
- 14:49my life.
- 14:49Yeah, it was really special.
- 14:51And re-watching it now,
- 14:52it came off better than I even remember
- 14:55it coming off.
- 14:57And I'm not trying to brag,
- 14:58but damn it, I'm proud of that.
- 15:00And it's got me fired up now.
- 15:02I want to talk to as many Masters
- 15:04athletes as I can at the Games this
- 15:06year.
- 15:06Awesome.
- 15:07When you guys are done, find me.
- 15:09I want to sit down and have a
- 15:10chat.
- 15:11One million percent.
- 15:13So I'm going to share this real quick
- 15:17and show the interview I'm talking about.
- 15:21So this is Kate right after she finished
- 15:24her final event at the twenty twenty four
- 15:27CrossFit Games.
- 15:31You have tears of joy because you finished
- 15:38your first games.
- 15:38Yeah.
- 15:39I finished my... I PR'd my first spot.
- 15:41And I, like,
- 15:41stood around and kind of watched everybody
- 15:45finish.
- 15:46And just, like,
- 15:47thanking all the volunteers and stuff.
- 15:48I just got so emotional.
- 15:50It's, like,
- 15:51it's such a big deal to be here.
- 15:54And even if, like, you're not winning...
- 15:59I'm so happy.
- 16:01I'm so sad it's over.
- 16:03It was a good way to end it,
- 16:05though.
- 16:07I learned that I'm fit enough to get
- 16:11here,
- 16:11but I've got some work to compete to
- 16:15hang with the big girls.
- 16:17We put in a lot of work on
- 16:19top entering the past two years,
- 16:21and that's what enabled me to get here.
- 16:24Last year, I couldn't even...
- 16:25clear the barbells that were required to
- 16:27hit like that was no issue um so
- 16:30now it's a cool problem to have like
- 16:32we just got to go faster and like
- 16:36and now my internet's gonna fuss with me
- 16:40at least i'm not the only one but
- 16:42while we're um while we're catching up on
- 16:44that you talk about how like happy you
- 16:48were to be there and how sad you
- 16:50were that it was over yeah
- 16:52And then you go on from this point
- 16:54and hopefully it'll catch up and we can
- 16:55play it.
- 16:57But how you were ready to prepare for
- 16:59the next season.
- 17:02And so I'm going to try to play
- 17:03this one more time.
- 17:05Let's see what we got.
- 17:10And no.
- 17:15Should I make that same face?
- 17:16I was going to ask you if you
- 17:16could.
- 17:17Get a little bit more uncomfortable.
- 17:18I'm pretty like...
- 17:21Okay, it's just gonna buffer now.
- 17:24So I'll stop sharing.
- 17:26So you go on to say that you're
- 17:28excited and you wanted to get back to
- 17:30games training as quickly as possible.
- 17:32I really did, yeah.
- 17:34So the next year,
- 17:37you actually missed the games by one spot.
- 17:40It was it was it was eleven because
- 17:42they had reduced the field.
- 17:44Yeah.
- 17:45So it was that next year they reduced
- 17:48from forty to thirty.
- 17:50And I didn't have a good online semifinal
- 17:53for a couple of reasons.
- 17:54Like no excuses.
- 17:56The programming was not great for me and
- 17:57some weaknesses were exposed.
- 17:59There were two heavy barbell cycling
- 18:02workouts that just weren't good for me.
- 18:05And then I also had the flu really
- 18:07bad.
- 18:08So yeah.
- 18:09doing that weekend super sick sucked.
- 18:13And it was like as I was starting
- 18:16to feel better from my sickness toward the
- 18:18end of the weekend is when my energy
- 18:21was tanking just from being fatigued from
- 18:24competing all weekend.
- 18:25So I was very much on the outside
- 18:28looking in.
- 18:28And I was really bummed.
- 18:32and like took a little time to be
- 18:33sad,
- 18:34but then sort of leaned into off season
- 18:37competition opportunities that, you know,
- 18:40I wouldn't have signed up for had I
- 18:43been training for the games all summer.
- 18:44So tried to make the most of it.
- 18:46But it was,
- 18:47it was a big disappointment last year for
- 18:49sure.
- 18:49Cause I was really itching to get back
- 18:51there.
- 18:53At the end of this interview,
- 18:55you actually say,
- 18:56I will be back next year.
- 18:58So when you have those expectations,
- 19:00right,
- 19:01and you throw it out there publicly that
- 19:05I'm coming back,
- 19:07and then you hit that wall where you
- 19:11just miss it, right?
- 19:12Yeah.
- 19:14How did you deal with the disappointment?
- 19:15You know, I'm like that.
- 19:28That are frozen.
- 19:29You're breaking up a little bit.
- 19:32So it's like every second.
- 19:35Every third word.
- 19:36Yeah.
- 19:39So let's try.
- 19:40Can you answer about the disappointment
- 19:42one more time?
- 19:43I think we have you back.
- 19:45Yeah.
- 19:47Can you hear me, you think?
- 19:48Yep.
- 19:48Yeah, we got you.
- 19:52Okay.
- 19:53I was sad,
- 19:53but when you miss out on a goal...
- 19:57when you've given it everything you could,
- 19:58you can't be too upset.
- 20:01Like I literally did everything that I
- 20:03could and it wasn't enough.
- 20:05And I had to find peace with that
- 20:08pretty quickly.
- 20:10And you learn, I mean,
- 20:12this is so cliche,
- 20:13but you do learn so much more from
- 20:15your failures than you do your successes.
- 20:17So there was just so much to be
- 20:19gleaned about what to work on and what
- 20:23to improve on.
- 20:24And like, I,
- 20:27love the opportunity for growth like it
- 20:29just i don't know it kind of set
- 20:31us up for a cool redemption arc and
- 20:33like pivoting training a little bit and
- 20:37focusing on new things to improve and it
- 20:40lit a fire under my butt quite frankly
- 20:42that
- 20:44I have tried to keep that feeling of
- 20:46not making it with me as fuel to
- 20:50get back there.
- 20:51So it was like it was definitely a
- 20:52bummer.
- 20:53But this isn't the only thing we have
- 20:55going on.
- 20:55Right.
- 20:56We have our careers.
- 20:57We have families like there's so many
- 20:58other things.
- 20:59And like this was one piece that didn't
- 21:01work out perfectly.
- 21:02And like, that's OK.
- 21:02I still have.
- 21:04my family, I have my career,
- 21:05I have my health.
- 21:06Like I have so much to be grateful
- 21:07for.
- 21:08And then I had a new plan of
- 21:10attack on what to focus on to try
- 21:11to improve things the following season.
- 21:16And you must have,
- 21:17because when you're now in the third tier
- 21:21of your age group, right.
- 21:23And it traditionally people get worse as
- 21:26they age through that five years.
- 21:28Right.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:30You got better.
- 21:33You finished tenth in semifinals this
- 21:35year.
- 21:36Your best finish ever in a semifinal.
- 21:40What do you attribute that to?
- 21:44I think there are a number of things.
- 21:47I think the programming was better for me.
- 21:51It doesn't hurt that six badass ladies had
- 21:54already punched their tickets and weren't
- 21:57competing online.
- 21:59I can't ignore that.
- 22:03Um,
- 22:03but even if we put you in sixteenth
- 22:05place, that's your best finish ever.
- 22:08That's true.
- 22:09I think of it to competing a little
- 22:12bit because I see with Corey the weekend
- 22:17before and wasn't even sure whether I was
- 22:21going to do online.
- 22:22So, you know,
- 22:23I didn't make any arrangements.
- 22:25I didn't have any more PTO to travel
- 22:26down to Georgia.
- 22:27Like we just did it at home after
- 22:30work in between people's work schedules.
- 22:32Like,
- 22:32it was a little bit less of a
- 22:36production,
- 22:37which I think just allowed me to put
- 22:40it out there without extra pressure.
- 22:43So I think that helped a lot.
- 22:46And also I'm just fitter.
- 22:48Like we started doing more sports specific
- 22:52CrossFit style training much earlier in
- 22:55the season than in past years.
- 22:58Historically,
- 22:59we would do like a big strength emphasis
- 23:01for the majority of the season and then
- 23:02just try to get
- 23:03fit enough like before quarters or semis
- 23:06and we started that much earlier this year
- 23:08and i think that helped a lot especially
- 23:11like qualifying through an online stage
- 23:13like you know having the burpee fitness
- 23:15the shuttle run fitness like the high
- 23:18heart rate uh fitness in a better spot
- 23:21than it had been previously um larry young
- 23:25says sometimes i think you just have to
- 23:27say it to make it happen and sometimes
- 23:29it just doesn't yeah it was scary
- 23:34For a long time,
- 23:35I wouldn't say out loud,
- 23:36except to my husband, maybe,
- 23:39was the only person who knew I want
- 23:41to make it to the CrossFit Games.
- 23:43I was reluctant to put that into the
- 23:45universe.
- 23:46Because once it's out there, people know.
- 23:50And there's expectations or
- 23:52accountability, right?
- 23:53And there's the possibility to fail and to
- 23:56not reach that goal.
- 24:00That's what happened last year.
- 24:02I didn't make it and it's okay.
- 24:04Like, it's all okay.
- 24:05So I think making it known really doubling
- 24:08down putting into the universe and seeing
- 24:11what happens is really important.
- 24:12And, and I got,
- 24:17I got a firsthand account look of your
- 24:20confidence growing at the twenty four
- 24:23games from the beginning of that weekend
- 24:26to the end of the weekend.
- 24:28I think I interviewed you when you were
- 24:31coming in for check-in, I think day one,
- 24:34and then when you were finished.
- 24:36I was probably so scared and sweating and
- 24:39overwhelmed when we first talked.
- 24:41There was a lot of deer in the
- 24:43headlights moments at that first games.
- 24:47And it was really cool to see your
- 24:49confidence grow.
- 24:50Thanks.
- 24:53So now you're coming in in a higher
- 24:56seed.
- 24:57What are your expectations of this year's
- 25:00games?
- 25:03I should have prepared for that question.
- 25:05Um, it's not a placement.
- 25:11I think it's a feeling and I don't
- 25:12want to do the cop-out answer of like,
- 25:14I want to come off the floor knowing
- 25:15I gave it my best.
- 25:17Um,
- 25:19i stand i know i know i you
- 25:24know realistically you guys like i'm not
- 25:27in the hunt for a podium finish like
- 25:30that's not lost on me but well not
- 25:32with that attitude hold on give me a
- 25:35second
- 25:38I might not win at the end of
- 25:40the weekend,
- 25:40but I can beat the girls that will
- 25:42win in certain events.
- 25:44Like, I've done it.
- 25:45I did it at Magic City.
- 25:46I did it online.
- 25:47Like,
- 25:48there are opportunities to shake things up
- 25:51and, like, show out.
- 25:53And I...
- 25:54I feel more like I belong now than
- 25:57ever before.
- 25:58And I'm ready to compete that way.
- 26:00So like the scared deer in the headlights
- 26:03that you saw in twenty twenty four,
- 26:05like she's not going to be there this
- 26:07year.
- 26:08Like I'm going to show up, be confident.
- 26:11And try to make some moves.
- 26:13Dude, hell yes.
- 26:15Hell yeah.
- 26:16I love that.
- 26:18Absolutely love that.
- 26:21So they've announced some of the workouts.
- 26:25They've promised to announce the number of
- 26:27workouts,
- 26:28yet we still don't know what that is.
- 26:33I was saying before we went on there,
- 26:35they need to stop making promises.
- 26:37Just stop.
- 26:39Just say you'll get it when you get
- 26:40it.
- 26:42Like if they lowered our expectations and
- 26:44then they could exceed them occasionally
- 26:46versus like leaving us here and then
- 26:49letting us down a lot.
- 26:51So it's a sales technique under,
- 26:53under promise and over deliver all you
- 26:56have to do.
- 26:57And they flip that in the wrong direction.
- 26:59They have.
- 26:59Yeah.
- 27:00Took that in was like,
- 27:01we will over promise it under deliver
- 27:03consistently year over year and see how
- 27:06that works out.
- 27:06And it hasn't,
- 27:08it hasn't worked out real well at all.
- 27:09Oh, Vicky says Kate, the disruptor.
- 27:17Hell yeah.
- 27:17I'm into that.
- 27:18Maybe I'll change my little tag.
- 27:18Yeah.
- 27:21John George says,
- 27:22talk shit in the corrals and be the
- 27:23spoiler.
- 27:25That's like the opposite of who I am
- 27:26at a competition.
- 27:27My coach gives me crap because I'm always
- 27:30just like making best friends.
- 27:32And like, he's like,
- 27:33if you focused on competing against these
- 27:36women,
- 27:36as much as you focused on loving on
- 27:38them and like becoming besties,
- 27:39like you could maybe do something.
- 27:41But I'm like,
- 27:42I just love everybody here is so fun.
- 27:43And I like getting to know them.
- 27:47Getting to know you and hearing him say
- 27:50talk shit in the crowds,
- 27:51like you would be the last person I
- 27:53would expect to talk shit to anybody.
- 27:55I'm back there like complimenting people's
- 27:57outfits or like telling them how strong
- 27:59they are.
- 28:00I'm like hype woman.
- 28:02You're offering your snacks.
- 28:04My mangoes.
- 28:07If you know who Kate is and you
- 28:09walk by her in the athlete area,
- 28:10you will get a high five or a
- 28:11hug every single time.
- 28:13It doesn't matter what's going on.
- 28:14I can tell you that from experience.
- 28:16Whether you want it or not.
- 28:19Whether you want it or not.
- 28:23Speaking of your mango strips,
- 28:26they were in your hand nonstop at the
- 28:28twenty four games.
- 28:30Do we have a new snack of choice?
- 28:34Yeah,
- 28:34I'm real into the applesauce packets,
- 28:36but there's a mango applesauce, Scott,
- 28:40that's like my go-to right now.
- 28:42So it's sort of the best of both
- 28:43worlds.
- 28:43Like I can eat it real quickly,
- 28:45but it has like that delicious mango
- 28:47flavor that I love so much.
- 28:50So here we go off the rails.
- 28:55I love mango everything,
- 28:58but I can't stand extracting real mango
- 29:03from the seed.
- 29:05Oh, God, no.
- 29:05That's a top ten list of my least
- 29:08favorite things to do.
- 29:09I will pay to get the pre-chopped one
- 29:12in the little plastic container if I want
- 29:15fresh mango because that's a lot of work.
- 29:18I'll pay for the convenience, please.
- 29:20It's like God is like,
- 29:22this is so good that we have to
- 29:25protect it by attaching it to this seed
- 29:27so hard that people just give up and
- 29:31leave it alone.
- 29:32This impermeable skin.
- 29:34Yeah.
- 29:35Basically a childproof cap.
- 29:36True.
- 29:37It's true.
- 29:40I used to work with a guy that
- 29:41would cut it open, like cut off...
- 29:45kind of like straight down without hitting
- 29:47the seed.
- 29:48And then he would make X's in the
- 29:50skin.
- 29:51And then he popped it up like this.
- 29:54And he would just eat it like a
- 29:56cup of corn.
- 29:58It's actually a really good idea.
- 30:04Not a bad.
- 30:04With practice, we too can be.
- 30:08efficient mango cutters if you stay
- 30:10focused and stay in it you too can
- 30:13accomplish that dream yeah yeah one day I
- 30:17will be able to eat a mango like
- 30:18it's a corn cob
- 30:20Add it to the list of twenty twenty
- 30:22six goals.
- 30:23Hundred percent.
- 30:24Yeah.
- 30:24CrossFit Games.
- 30:25Next up.
- 30:26Yeah.
- 30:26Before the turn of the year.
- 30:30Meg went to the extreme and bought that
- 30:32mango thing.
- 30:33I'm assuming like a mango chopper or a
- 30:35mango opener.
- 30:37And it still doesn't work.
- 30:39Damn it, Meg.
- 30:42But that comes from someone who can't peel
- 30:43an orange.
- 30:45Yeah, but I can peel an orange barehanded.
- 30:47The only thing I can do with a
- 30:49mango barehanded is throw it across the
- 30:50room.
- 30:51You're not doing anything else with it
- 30:52besides that.
- 30:56John George, just like a coconut.
- 30:58Damn it, so annoying, both of them.
- 31:02Can't say I've ever tried to open a
- 31:04coconut, John George.
- 31:04I have never cut one personally.
- 31:08I think I've had a drink out of
- 31:09one at a resort,
- 31:10but that's about as close as I've gotten
- 31:11to fresh coconut.
- 31:13No,
- 31:13one of those is way more dangerous than
- 31:15the other one.
- 31:16Again,
- 31:16if we're throwing it across the room,
- 31:17I feel like you could probably mug
- 31:20somebody with a coconut.
- 31:21Not that we condone that type of behavior
- 31:24here,
- 31:24but you could knock somebody out with a
- 31:26coconut pretty easily.
- 31:27One hundred percent.
- 31:28The mango would squish.
- 31:30There's an island up in Lake Erie where
- 31:33there is a resort and it has like
- 31:35swings hanging from the ceiling that are
- 31:38the bar stools.
- 31:40And in it,
- 31:41they serve a coconut drink where they tap
- 31:43a hole in it somehow and then pour
- 31:45the liquor right into the coconut.
- 31:48Like one dose.
- 31:49And then a straw and you go.
- 31:51Every time I've been there,
- 31:52they've been out of them.
- 31:55It's like my life's dream to one time
- 31:58get one of those and now I've quit
- 31:59drinking.
- 32:00So what's a man to do?
- 32:03Get you a coconut,
- 32:04drill a hole in it,
- 32:05just drink the milk out of it.
- 32:07A mocktail.
- 32:07Can you squirt some Kool-Aid in there?
- 32:09Get you a mocktail, yeah.
- 32:10Ask them for a non-alcoholic version of it
- 32:13next time if they have the coconuts.
- 32:15Could you puree some mango and put down
- 32:17in there?
- 32:17Get you a mango Foxtrot.
- 32:19Yeah.
- 32:21Get you a mango Foxtrot C-IV and pour
- 32:24it into your hole.
- 32:26Shake it up.
- 32:27Well, probably not.
- 32:28It's carbonated,
- 32:29so maybe not shake it up quite so
- 32:30much, but...
- 32:32Just saying,
- 32:33I want to understand mango and coconut
- 32:34goes pretty well together.
- 32:37Yeah.
- 32:37Tropical smoothie all inside of a coconut
- 32:40and two hundred milligrams of caffeine.
- 32:42Let's go.
- 32:44Let's making that happen.
- 32:46Can I get the name of that bar
- 32:48again?
- 32:50It won't do you any good, Papa Frank,
- 32:52because they are clean out of coconut
- 32:54every time Scott goes.
- 32:56It's probably because I go at stupid
- 32:57times, honestly.
- 32:58I hate people.
- 33:00I hate people,
- 33:00so it's probably when they have a low
- 33:02inventory of coconut.
- 33:04What is the name of that?
- 33:07Everybody just left,
- 33:08and they took all the coconuts with them.
- 33:10Sorry, sir.
- 33:16Did you say a swanky resort in the
- 33:17Poconos with swings?
- 33:19Not in the Poconos, dude.
- 33:22No, no, John George.
- 33:23But when you said swings hanging from the
- 33:24ceiling,
- 33:25that was the first thing I thought of
- 33:26as well.
- 33:26So moving right along.
- 33:31This is Put-in-Bay.
- 33:32Put-in-Bay is the name of the island in
- 33:34Lake Erie.
- 33:35Put-in-Bay?
- 33:37It's Put-in-Bay.
- 33:40Put-in-Bay.
- 33:40I thought you said put like pudding.
- 33:45Yeah.
- 33:45Yeah.
- 33:46Put-in-Bay.
- 33:47Oh, Put-in-Bay.
- 33:48It's right next to Custard Creek.
- 33:51That's for resistance swimming.
- 33:53You swim in Put-in-Bay.
- 33:55Put-in-Bay.
- 33:56Cool.
- 33:56Mm-hmm.
- 33:59Yeah.
- 34:00No, thank you.
- 34:00I don't want to go to Put-In-Bay.
- 34:02When I was growing up in Florida,
- 34:03there was a coconut ice cream that was
- 34:04served in a shell that you could buy
- 34:06at Publix.
- 34:09Publix has some cool stuff, dude.
- 34:11I love shopping at Publix.
- 34:14Give me or give them all my money
- 34:16because it's an expensive grocery store.
- 34:18It is an expensive place.
- 34:20They got the goods.
- 34:21The one in Birmingham when we were there
- 34:23for Magic City, Corey,
- 34:25I went like three times a day.
- 34:26It was a little extreme.
- 34:30We didn't go three times a day,
- 34:31but we went often.
- 34:33To the point where I ran into Joey
- 34:35Perez down there at the store.
- 34:38And I ran into somebody else that I
- 34:39knew.
- 34:40And it's like, okay,
- 34:42there's a lot of us here, apparently,
- 34:43because everybody's going to Publix.
- 34:45Yeah, we don't have them here.
- 34:48No, we don't either.
- 34:49It took me two trips before I realized
- 34:50that there was parking around the outside
- 34:52of the building.
- 34:52I didn't have to stop and pay.
- 34:54Yeah,
- 34:55I had to pay the freaking and take
- 34:58the elevator down into the store,
- 35:00which is also a trip.
- 35:02Weird fact,
- 35:03Publix is the largest employer in Florida.
- 35:06Oh, really?
- 35:08yeah yes and they're uh i want to
- 35:10say they're they're like the people that
- 35:11work for them actually own stock in the
- 35:13company just from working there like they
- 35:15have real good retirement benefits and
- 35:16stuff like that i read about them not
- 35:18that long ago i knew i liked public
- 35:20see this is only adding fuel to that
- 35:22fire and the pub subs don't even get
- 35:25me started on a pub sub yeah that's
- 35:28what judy reed says oh yeah
- 35:34When I worked in Florida,
- 35:35we did occupational injury and illness
- 35:37data.
- 35:38I was a statistician, and we would survey,
- 35:41and they were the largest employer in
- 35:43Florida.
- 35:43Where in Florida were you?
- 35:46Tallahassee.
- 35:46Okay.
- 35:48Who was number two?
- 35:49Sorry, I cut you off.
- 35:50Oh, no.
- 35:51Number two, Disney.
- 35:52Oh.
- 35:54Shocking.
- 35:57So little facts that you didn't really
- 35:59care about or know.
- 36:00There you go.
- 36:01They should just change Orlando to like to
- 36:04just call it Disneyland and just call all
- 36:06of Orlando Disneyland.
- 36:07Cause the vast majority, right.
- 36:08It's Disney world.
- 36:10Excuse me, Disney world.
- 36:12Disneyland is that thing in California is
- 36:14that yeah.
- 36:15Monstrosity in California, but yeah,
- 36:17they should just call it or just call
- 36:19it Disney in general.
- 36:21You fly into the Disney airport,
- 36:24they had the Disney resort,
- 36:26get your Disney rental car.
- 36:29Yeah, there you go.
- 36:32Kate's like,
- 36:33what the hell is going on here?
- 36:34Corey has lost his mind again.
- 36:36No,
- 36:36I was trying to think of something clever
- 36:38to say, and I couldn't think of anything.
- 36:41she's used to it she's in that group
- 36:43chat that group text that we're in with
- 36:45other masters athletes half of whom i do
- 36:48not know um yeah so it gets active
- 36:52he's always popping off in that so yeah
- 36:54i'm used to it i mean the people
- 36:55say dumb and i can't help myself so
- 36:59it's warranted yeah uh speaking of the
- 37:04store don't waste your time at the store
- 37:05buying yucky melatonin

- 37:26Just got to be part of our ad
- 37:28read, Kate.
- 37:29Congratulations.
- 37:29I was very professional.
- 37:32I'm impressed.
- 37:33We've had lots of practice.
- 37:35I know.
- 37:37I try to be the king of the
- 37:38segue, and then the chat took over,
- 37:39and they got better at it than me,
- 37:41so I just let them do this.
- 37:42Yeah.
- 37:44They're doing the heavy lifting.
- 37:45Now you just have to read.
- 37:46They really are.
- 37:48They really, really are.
- 37:50So you're coming into the games.
- 37:53We know a little bit of information.
- 37:54Are you... How...
- 37:58we get negative about the whole thing,
- 38:00right?
- 38:00The,
- 38:01the whole like legends do this and the
- 38:03programming is that,
- 38:04and they didn't release this,
- 38:06but you get to go to your second
- 38:07CrossFit games.
- 38:10Is it hard to like push out the
- 38:13negativity and think about what you get to
- 38:17do?
- 38:17Or is it just piece of cake for
- 38:19you?
- 38:21I'm glad you asked this because it was
- 38:22something that I wanted to make sure I
- 38:25talked about while I had this platform
- 38:27with you guys today.
- 38:28Like I think masters athletes were real
- 38:32loud and were real complaining.
- 38:35Like I get that we are a majority
- 38:39when it comes to like participation in the
- 38:41open and funding the season.
- 38:43And therefore we feel,
- 38:45and I'm speaking collectively,
- 38:46like maybe it's not my place to do
- 38:47that, but there's a sense of like,
- 38:52not entitlement per se,
- 38:53but like we're owed something from
- 38:55CrossFit and like the reality of it is
- 38:58like what other sports exist that have
- 39:00platforms for
- 39:04age group athletes, for adaptive athletes,
- 39:06for people outside of like the elite realm
- 39:09to compete at this level.
- 39:10Like we are not guaranteed any of this
- 39:12and it could all go away like in
- 39:16an instant, right?
- 39:17So when it comes to things like
- 39:19complaining about the programming not
- 39:21being perfect or the communications or
- 39:23like if...
- 39:25when the equipment or apparel is handed
- 39:28out and folks are upset that we don't
- 39:31get enough for the weekend.
- 39:34I try not to think about any of
- 39:36that because I'm just so grateful to have
- 39:38any of it, honestly.
- 39:41So for me, it's not hard.
- 39:43Would I hope that the test is really
- 39:46well balanced?
- 39:47Of course.
- 39:48Do I hope that we have clear
- 39:51communication?
- 39:52Obviously,
- 39:53but I'm not going to shit on CrossFit
- 39:56or on legends.
- 39:56Like if it's not perfect,
- 39:59because at least we have something and
- 40:02that's more than anybody is owed.
- 40:04Like nobody is paying us to be there.
- 40:07Like we're not fulfilling any obligations.
- 40:10Like we are voluntarily spending our money
- 40:13to go and compete in something that we
- 40:15love.
- 40:17How fortunate are we to be able to
- 40:19do that?
- 40:19I just think it's the coolest thing,
- 40:21and I'll take it in whatever capacity I
- 40:23can get it.
- 40:23And especially having missed out last year
- 40:26and now having the chance to go back,
- 40:28I'm like,
- 40:30doubly excited and like way less concerned
- 40:33about the things that aren't perfect.
- 40:35So I don't know if that actually answers
- 40:38your question.
- 40:38I feel like I went around a little
- 40:40bit,
- 40:40but I tried to focus on the fact
- 40:42that it exists in any capacity and lean
- 40:47into how special that is.
- 40:50I'm,
- 40:51I'm honestly to the point where I just
- 40:53want a thin thread that makes it relate
- 40:58to the CrossFit games.
- 41:00And I think we've lost that.
- 41:02That's my biggest complaint.
- 41:05Yeah.
- 41:06I want just a small thread of like
- 41:09that you guys do a same workout or
- 41:12a handful of workouts that the elites do.
- 41:17I don't even care if it's in the
- 41:18same location.
- 41:19Yeah.
- 41:20I'm with you on that.
- 41:21And I think it's tough because when they
- 41:23initially announced the anniversary and
- 41:25bringing us all back together,
- 41:27I think we had a picture in our
- 41:29minds that's not exactly how it's playing
- 41:32out.
- 41:33Right.
- 41:33Like, yes, we're a couple of days before.
- 41:36Yes, we're a mile down the street.
- 41:38But like generally,
- 41:39I still think it's cool that we are
- 41:41brought together.
- 41:43in the same vicinity the same time frame
- 41:46to kind of feed off of the energy
- 41:48um you know i was not a part
- 41:51i visited i went as a spectator when
- 41:53the age group was in like the cow
- 41:55barn adjacent to the main event in madison
- 41:59and like that was cool to be like
- 42:00more connected and there was some
- 42:02programming overlap when both the age
- 42:05groups and the elites would use north park
- 42:07for example so i think
- 42:09I think there's opportunities that are
- 42:10being missed by not having some of those
- 42:12connective thread, Scott,
- 42:14that you're saying.
- 42:14I think it'd be really cool to compare
- 42:17and to understand how good the elites are,
- 42:20but how amazing the age group can still
- 42:24hang with some of those same workouts.
- 42:26Comparing it to Crash Crucible that I did
- 42:30a couple of years ago,
- 42:31JR makes all of the Masters athletes do
- 42:33the exact same programming as the elites.
- 42:36And it's hard and we're not doing as
- 42:40well,
- 42:40but it's really damn impressive when you
- 42:43kind of see that across everybody.
- 42:46So I'm I'm with you.
- 42:48I think that would be cooler and
- 42:51preferable, but I'm OK.
- 42:54Like,
- 42:55I think it is cool that we're somewhat
- 42:58adjacent this year as opposed to being,
- 43:00you know,
- 43:00like Labor Day weekend and a totally other
- 43:04location there's pros and cons for both
- 43:06but uh Vicky says yes Kate people had
- 43:10an expectation that was never stated
- 43:12that's not on CrossFit or Legends I
- 43:15disagree slightly expectations have been
- 43:18set for years and the problem is it
- 43:23it's getting less and less and less each
- 43:25year without explanation
- 43:29And I think if you are running an
- 43:31organization,
- 43:33the last thing you want to do is
- 43:36catch your people off guard, right?
- 43:42People – if there are cuts coming and
- 43:47you're going to have to make it smaller
- 43:49or less apparel,
- 43:50if you say that up front,
- 43:51people are much –
- 43:53take it much better than when they're
- 43:56caught off guard by it later down the
- 43:58road.
- 43:59That's all.
- 43:59Especially people that are traveling like
- 44:01internationally to kind of know what
- 44:02they're getting into or across the
- 44:04country.
- 44:05Like I agree with that.
- 44:08So,
- 44:09and you say expectations by whom Vicki,
- 44:11I'm saying that for years,
- 44:13the masters athletes got huge kits of
- 44:17stuff.
- 44:19And I see everybody in here talking about
- 44:21flow elite and,
- 44:23And I know you're here to complain about
- 44:25it,
- 44:25but I am of the belief that if
- 44:28you expect to get everything for free,
- 44:30you're going to be sorely disappointed.
- 44:33We did a whole show about that.
- 44:34Right.
- 44:36You have to pay to go see a
- 44:37movie.
- 44:38You have to pay for your streaming
- 44:39service.
- 44:41You have to pay to watch sports now,
- 44:44pretty much.
- 44:47It is not out of the realm that
- 44:49a handful of events at the CrossFit Games
- 44:52are on a streaming service.
- 44:55Also,
- 44:56and it's the only thing I'm going to
- 44:57say about it,
- 44:58and I could be completely off base here,
- 44:59but I think I heard Savant say this
- 45:01morning that it was going to be on
- 45:02Floyd Leeds' free channel.
- 45:05Interesting.
- 45:07so so there if that's if that's if
- 45:09i did hear that correctly then you then
- 45:11the people that i didn't have absolutely
- 45:13nothing to about which is normally the
- 45:15case and i'm one of the people that
- 45:17and i'll say it right now i usually
- 45:20am just to be because i'm old and
- 45:22that's what we do so moving right along
- 45:26and and i think shanna says shanna who
- 45:28former crossfit games athlete and maybe
- 45:30again this year yep uh there was
- 45:32definitely a precedent set in the early
- 45:34years for masters that is much different
- 45:36And so for people that have been around
- 45:38for a long time and have been to
- 45:39multiple games,
- 45:40they experienced what it was.
- 45:43And it's not that anymore without
- 45:45explanation.
- 45:47So, I mean, I've,
- 45:50I see both sides to all of this
- 45:51stuff and I've just got to imagine from
- 45:53like a sustainability standpoint, it just,
- 45:57was really cool and because it's not just
- 45:59masters where the experience has changed
- 46:02like sure the elites might still be
- 46:03getting a ton of stuff but the sponsors
- 46:06are totally different their venues have
- 46:08changed consistently as well like there's
- 46:11been an evolution and you've got to
- 46:14imagine a lot of that is financially
- 46:15driven and just trying to find some
- 46:18efficiencies and streamlining things and
- 46:20like it sucks but i get why the
- 46:24groups that aren't pulling in
- 46:26big marketing money or you know the
- 46:29spectators are gonna be on one side of
- 46:31that and it's unfortunate but like
- 46:33whatever needs to happen to keep this
- 46:36going and like continue to be an option
- 46:39and a goal for us to strive for
- 46:41like i'm okay with tempering those
- 46:45expectations just a little bit
- 46:49I think that a lot could be solved
- 46:51with two quick things.
- 46:54And that is one,
- 46:55make the programming similar to the games.
- 46:58Allow the Masters athletes to play the
- 47:01same game for at least a part of
- 47:04the games.
- 47:05And two, use another funding stream.
- 47:10And if people want a full games kit,
- 47:12they can buy it.
- 47:13Hmm.
- 47:17That way you can maybe make some more
- 47:19money.
- 47:20It's another revenue stream for you
- 47:22legends or you CrossFit.
- 47:25And people still get the whole kit that
- 47:27they want to be able to wear in
- 47:32their gym year round to show that they
- 47:34were a games athlete.
- 47:36I got news for you.
- 47:36When I make the games,
- 47:37I'll be wearing my kit year round,
- 47:39regardless of what else happens.
- 47:41It could be one shirt and one pair
- 47:42of shorts.
- 47:44Well,
- 47:44I'll be showering in it and washing it
- 47:46while I'm wearing it.
- 47:47Can you see behind my shoulder?
- 47:49Like I have that shadow box with some
- 47:53of my kit from twenty twenty four.
- 47:55I'm with you, Corey.
- 47:55Absolutely.
- 47:56Yep.
- 47:58Let me ask you this.
- 48:00Let me ask you this.
- 48:01You're an interior designer.
- 48:03Mm hmm.
- 48:05Do you have two people,
- 48:06one on each shelf,
- 48:08your interior designer going,
- 48:10that does not look good in this room?
- 48:12Are you saying that doesn't look good,
- 48:13Scott?
- 48:14What the heck?
- 48:15That was better I could tell.
- 48:16Touche, touche, touche.
- 48:17Okay.
- 48:24yeah um yeah there's a balance there's a
- 48:27give and take there for sure but that's
- 48:29something i'm really freaking proud of
- 48:31it's in the little vestibule like it's
- 48:33outside of the bathroom it's not in a
- 48:34really prominent space in our house i see
- 48:39i'm married to an interior designer and so
- 48:42i know what is not allowed on the
- 48:44walls in my house yeah yeah right but
- 48:47she's not i have the same so
- 48:49conversation with my husband about like
- 48:51his concert posters and things we get a
- 48:53little strategic about where we can like
- 48:57the main cave things um uh daniel arnson
- 49:06uh thank you for the donation i choose
- 49:08to blindly only see one side of it
- 49:10and decide that only benefits me at least
- 49:14you're willing to admit it
- 49:15Oh, he's all up in it.
- 49:17It's absolutely fine.
- 49:19The self-awareness is clutch.
- 49:22Yeah.
- 49:23Yeah.
- 49:23He knows.
- 49:24He came in here bitching and was like,
- 49:26I'm here to bitch.
- 49:26All right, here we go.
- 49:30Shana says,
- 49:31Corey wearing the same outfit daily.
- 49:32Wonder how long that would last.
- 49:35Mark Phillips then chimes in.
- 49:36I have some shirts hanging on for dear
- 49:38life.
- 49:38Don't underestimate men and their clothes.
- 49:42I got two pairs of socks right now
- 49:44that probably need to be thrown away that
- 49:46I refuse to throw away.
- 49:49I got like,
- 49:50Brandon made some EMOM company socks for
- 49:54the first or the second Southland camp I
- 49:56went to, one out of the two.
- 49:59And I've been wearing them for years.
- 50:00That was in like three years ago.
- 50:02And one of them's got a hole in
- 50:03the bottom of it, probably about this big.
- 50:05And I refuse to get rid of them
- 50:06because nobody else has EMOM company
- 50:08socks.
- 50:08So, and I love them.
- 50:12probably shouldn't wear them.
- 50:13It gets a little bit bigger every time
- 50:15I do,
- 50:16but they're sitting on top of my dresser
- 50:17right now because I'm trying to force
- 50:19myself to just get rid of them,
- 50:20and I still refuse to.
- 50:23Sentimental socks.
- 50:25Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 50:27Shanna says,
- 50:27I gave a game shirt to a friend
- 50:29and she qualified the next year.
- 50:30Corey, I'll send you a shirt this year.
- 50:32I expect you to wear it.
- 50:35Don't think I won't.
- 50:37Test me.
- 50:41Test me.
- 50:41I'll wear it on a show, Shannon.
- 50:43I will wear that thing to work.
- 50:44I don't care.
- 50:45I'm the bunts right there on the front.
- 50:52Larry's popping in here.
- 50:53There's no way Larry is wearing Shannon's
- 50:55shirt.
- 50:55I'm just, I've met both in person.
- 50:58Not going to happen, Larry.
- 50:59Sorry.
- 51:00Mm-mm.
- 51:03And then Wayne says all I get is
- 51:06the four by six space behind me.
- 51:09I actually get the whole basement.
- 51:10Okay.
- 51:12That is, this is my space.
- 51:15Scott's domain.
- 51:18Shannon, if you send me a shirt,
- 51:19it has to be autographed.
- 51:20I'm just saying.
- 51:21Okay.
- 51:27Please, please, for the love of God, no,
- 51:30Shanna.
- 51:30Actually, no, please, for the love of God,
- 51:33send Larry Young your shorts,
- 51:36one hundred percent.
- 51:37He is a mountain of a man.
- 51:38I would love to see him in your
- 51:40shorts.
- 51:42Have you guys seen when Aunt Haynes,
- 51:46Aunt Haynes coaches a female Masters
- 51:48athlete?
- 51:48I think her name is Lee Coates, maybe.
- 51:51Yeah.
- 51:52And every year they do like an outfit
- 51:55swap and he'll put on her sports,
- 51:57her like games,
- 51:58sports bra and booty shorts.
- 52:00And she's teeny tiny.
- 52:03And he is not a large man and
- 52:05he rocks it.
- 52:06And they put it on Instagram every year.
- 52:08It's pretty funny.
- 52:09That's fantastic.
- 52:11Lee Coates may be the only person shorter
- 52:13than Corey.
- 52:14She's so small.
- 52:15Like he always has to be there to
- 52:17lift her up to the rig at the
- 52:19games, but she is fantastic.
- 52:22I think technically Joseph is a little bit
- 52:24shorter than I am.
- 52:25Ortega is about the same size I am.
- 52:31Well,
- 52:32I can't wait to see you this week
- 52:34or next week.
- 52:35So soon.
- 52:35Yeah,
- 52:35I'll see you in a couple of days.
- 52:37So when it's all over, come find me.
- 52:40If you're a Masters athlete,
- 52:42you're at the games, come find me.
- 52:44I want to record some stuff with you
- 52:46guys and put it out for promotion and
- 52:49And that way we can guarantee better
- 52:52internet.
- 52:54Probably.
- 52:56Thanks for sticking it out with my crappy
- 52:57internet.
- 52:58Even with the choppy internet,
- 53:01you are a joy to have on.
- 53:03And I've interviewed you before and your
- 53:05internet was great.
- 53:06Because I was at the office.
- 53:10How is your home internet terrible?
- 53:11That doesn't even compute.
- 53:13Corey, I don't know.
- 53:15I'm not an internet specialist.
- 53:17I don't know.
- 53:19We've narrowed down what Kate doesn't do
- 53:21in IT.
- 53:22I'm not an IT technician.
- 53:24No.
- 53:25I'm a consumer.
- 53:28Got it.
- 53:28Got it.
- 53:31Sorry.
- 53:31No, it's fine, dude.
- 53:32It's fine.
- 53:32I spend so much money on internet and
- 53:34I've changed companies seventeen times
- 53:37because this is what I do and I
- 53:40cannot afford for it to be bad.
- 53:43and so thank god you do thank god
- 53:47one of us does but i can't wait
- 53:51to see you i hopefully i can get
- 53:52there soon enough to watch you guys do
- 53:54some events um on wednesday and then
- 53:57thursday uh but i'm super excited for that
- 54:00me too
- 54:04I don't know if you missed the beginning
- 54:05of the show, Larry,
- 54:06but I got a report that my shirts
- 54:08are delayed.
- 54:11They're in a container somewhere in the
- 54:13Strait of Hormuz.
- 54:16They didn't really tell me that they're in
- 54:17a container.
- 54:18They did say that the actual shirts were
- 54:21delayed in getting to them to print.
- 54:25So it's going to be iffy whether I
- 54:27have them at the games or not.
- 54:31And
- 54:34And that makes me sad because that's why
- 54:36I bought them.
- 54:37I bought them to have them at the
- 54:38games to sell there.
- 54:42For four ninety nine again, Daniel Arnson,
- 54:44I hope whoever made the flow decision
- 54:46stubs their toe while watering their spice
- 54:49garden.
- 54:54I don't even know what a spice garden
- 54:55is, but I'm with you, Daniel.
- 54:57I get it.
- 54:58Kate is sassy.
- 54:59I like it.
- 55:02Okay.
- 55:03Did you,
- 55:03did you test out any of the, uh,
- 55:06announced the workout yet?
- 55:08I have tested all of the ones that
- 55:10have been released so far.
- 55:12So yeah.
- 55:14How'd they go?
- 55:15You ain't gotta say nothing, but like,
- 55:17how'd they go?
- 55:20I think they're really fun.
- 55:23I think some of the caps are aggressive.
- 55:25Aggressive.
- 55:26Yes.
- 55:27We can talk about that when we get
- 55:28off.
- 55:31I think they were great learning
- 55:33opportunities and they've made me excited
- 55:38to compete.
- 55:39I like how varied they are.
- 55:40And everybody's talking, myself included,
- 55:42talking so much crap about carrying the
- 55:44med ball.
- 55:46But that one feels...
- 55:48yeah but like that one's grindy and hard
- 55:51like it felt like games training like a
- 55:53games workout when i was testing that one
- 55:55so that's like the silver lining of that
- 55:57misery i guess sure yeah no i can
- 55:58see that i do want to pull this
- 56:04up real quick since everybody's talking
- 56:05about it here is the uh stream schedule
- 56:09for the elites um and someone actually
- 56:12corrected me all the athletes at the
- 56:13crossfit games are elite
- 56:16But CrossFit calls the individual of
- 56:19eighteen to thirty four elites.
- 56:23And I don't know what to call them
- 56:24other than that,
- 56:25because everybody's an individual other
- 56:28than the team athletes.
- 56:30Everybody's elite.
- 56:31I don't know how to differentiate anymore.
- 56:34But anyway, no offense taken.
- 56:36We get it.
- 56:39Here are a flow elite is going to
- 56:41broadcast everything and select events
- 56:45will be on the CrossFit games channel and
- 56:47YouTube.
- 56:49Hiller's comment makes me laugh here.
- 56:51That's funny.
- 56:53Corinne pepper.
- 57:01So there it all is on flowly.
- 57:03It is their free channel.
- 57:05I don't know if you could see that
- 57:07over here.
- 57:11uh on the free streaming channel the also
- 57:17on the masters athletes will be on flow
- 57:19elite too but i do not know if
- 57:21that is a free channel
- 57:23I'll go take a look at some point
- 57:26today.
- 57:27Like I said,
- 57:27I just got to turn mine back on.
- 57:28It's working.
- 57:30I will be able to watch all the
- 57:30Master stuff,
- 57:31the game stuff I'll probably have to watch
- 57:33at Monster Games.
- 57:34They're supposed to have a spot with a
- 57:39big TV for us to have a viewing
- 57:40party for while the game is going on
- 57:42while we're competing.
- 57:43Yeah.
- 57:47I feel like I could get confused in
- 57:49keeping track of all the different
- 57:50platforms, but hopefully.
- 57:53So if you are confused,
- 57:57everything is on Flow Elite.
- 58:01Oh, okay.
- 58:01It's YouTube and the CrossFit Games
- 58:03channel where it's select.
- 58:04Got it.
- 58:05I just need to tell my mom.
- 58:14What does my mom need to watch?
- 58:15What do I need to tell mom?
- 58:16So for all Masters events,
- 58:18it's going to be on Flow Elite.
- 58:20We just don't know if it's pay or
- 58:21free.
- 58:21Yeah.
- 58:23Got it.
- 58:24Or as Daniel,
- 58:25who I think is happy about this decision,
- 58:28says on the dumb, dumb,
- 58:29stupid pants platform.
- 58:33Otherwise known as, yeah.
- 58:34Otherwise known as flowly.
- 58:38Why do I picture Daniel Arnson as a
- 58:42twelve-year-old boy stomping his hands and
- 58:45legs on the floor?
- 58:47Stupid.
- 58:48Yeah.
- 58:48A hundred percent.
- 58:55AKA flowly.
- 58:57AKA also.
- 58:58Dumb dumb stupid pants.
- 59:00Dumb dumb stupid pants.
- 59:03They should adopt that.
- 59:04If they go public and they start and
- 59:06like make a trade offering,
- 59:07that's what the letters are going to be.
- 59:09DDSP.
- 59:09It's kind of cute.
- 59:13Yeah.
- 59:14Just watching you guys on DDSP.
- 59:15DDSP.
- 59:22Oh, that was good.
- 59:23That was good.
- 59:24Well, that's a good place to end.
- 59:25We're going to head out for the day.
- 59:28Hopefully we can chat with Kate briefly
- 59:29after this,
- 59:31but hope you have a great rest of
- 59:32your day.
- 59:32We'll be back tomorrow for the same old
- 59:36off the rails, dumb, dumb, stupid pants.
- 59:40Maybe that's what our channel should be
- 59:41called.
- 59:41I like it.

- 59:49See you guys all tomorrow.
- 59:52Stay jazzy.
