- 0:07Speaker 2: Hello, Big Blue Nation, Welcome to Just the Cats. My
- 0:11Speaker 2: name is Michael Bennett on this Monday, June fifteenth. I
- 0:14Speaker 2: hope everybody had a big weekend. I I know I
- 0:17Speaker 2: certainly did. It was not a relaxing weekend for Michael Bennant,
- 0:20Speaker 2: I can tell you right now. But justin Oh my gosh, man,
- 0:26Speaker 2: sorry about that, Matthew Childers this with us.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It's just habit. Matthew, don't get mad at me.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I've been saying it now for close to what three years, no,
- 0:37Speaker 2: two years, I don't know how long it's been.
- 0:40Speaker 3: But anyway, did you have a good weekend? Yeah? My
- 0:45Speaker 3: weekend was good, A little bit of a long weekend.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Not in the long weekend. You can have a long weekend.
- 0:52Speaker 2: That sounds negative to me.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah, not in the good way.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Oh.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Really is exhausted today. I was at a wedding all
- 0:59Speaker 1: day yesterday. Watched a lot of soccer this weekend. I
- 1:02Speaker 1: didn't even watch any of the NBA finals this weekend
- 1:04Speaker 1: at all.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, thanks for being prepared to talk about
- 1:08Speaker 2: NBA finals.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So that's fantastic.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Careless couldn't have cared less, really, I had because I
- 1:12Speaker 1: had eighteen hours of soccer to watch this weekend.
- 1:15Speaker 3: So oh, okay, there we go.
- 1:17Speaker 2: All right, so you've been talking to somebody since before
- 1:21Speaker 2: we came on the air, and you said it's an intern.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yes, it's interning in. He's been here for a past
- 1:28Speaker 1: couple weeks now.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yeah, well he wasn't there last Monday. We he's here,
- 1:32Speaker 3: you know, here and there, not every single day.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Well okay, well, I mean I always thought the consistency
- 1:38Speaker 2: was he's.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Here every Monday. I don't know. Oh okay, well I
- 1:44Speaker 3: don't have a schedule.
- 1:45Speaker 2: How is Ian going to learn how to be on
- 1:47Speaker 2: the radio without being on the radio with us?
- 1:50Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe you maybe you should be in studio.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Oh oh is that what? You know?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Some people do have other jobs as well. And I
- 1:59Speaker 2: have to be down here in Florida. It's not like
- 2:01Speaker 2: I'm sitting down here basking in the sun. But tell Ian,
- 2:05Speaker 2: he needs to be at the other in the other studio,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and he needs to join this conversation today.
- 2:10Speaker 3: So that's how he's going to learn how to be
- 2:13Speaker 3: on the radio.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And he wants you in the other studios he can
- 2:16Speaker 1: be on the radio. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Tell him.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Don't hurry too, Okay, please, he's not okay, Yeah, clearly
- 2:25Speaker 2: he's not hurrying, but just.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Got up, Michael. Yeah, there's more than two seconds to
- 2:29Speaker 1: get in the other room. I think his headphones are
- 2:34Speaker 1: falling apart. Oh good, sound horrible? I do, really, and
- 2:39Speaker 1: only I know it's the headphones only comes out of
- 2:41Speaker 1: one year.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Okay, so I think who knows? But well, it's just
- 2:45Speaker 2: the two of us talking. Anyway, it would be three
- 2:46Speaker 2: of us in just a second. So uh but all right.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So I didn't realize people got married on Sundays. I
- 2:53Speaker 2: always thought traditionally people got married a little bit on Fridays,
- 2:57Speaker 2: but mostly on Saturdays. Is that not the case anymore?
- 3:01Speaker 2: People now get married on Sundays. Why did they pick
- 3:03Speaker 2: Sunday of all days to get married?
- 3:05Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Nobody ever told me that was just the day they chose.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I had never been to.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Isn't that the day? Yeah? Are you going to get
- 3:13Speaker 3: married on a Sunday?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean, what are you going to be traditional
- 3:16Speaker 2: and do it on a Saturday?
- 3:17Speaker 3: Or what? Do you think? Probably on a Saturday? That
- 3:21Speaker 3: was not a Sunday, definitely not a Friday.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Was it a boring wedding. It was why there was
- 3:28Speaker 2: an open bar. Oh oh that's so. That is what
- 3:32Speaker 2: equates to a fun wedding. There is open bar for me.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah? Wow?
- 3:38Speaker 1: And your drink of choice was they had like a
- 3:41Speaker 1: blueberry margarita.
- 3:44Speaker 3: That sounds that sounds way too sweet for me. I
- 3:47Speaker 3: mean it was really sweet.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I would How many blueberry margaritas did matthew Children's
- 3:53Speaker 2: take down?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Two or three? Wow? Is that what did it for you?
- 3:59Speaker 3: I mean.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I guess or did you mix it with other things?
- 4:04Speaker 1: I mean I had that and a couple of high nunes.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I don't know what a high noon is is like
- 4:09Speaker 1: a Seltzer.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Oh okay, that's a ladies drink. Come on, do guys
- 4:16Speaker 2: really drink Seltzer's.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah? I drink that. I drink Seltzers more than a
- 4:19Speaker 3: drink beers. Do you really?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Guy's not like flavored drinks. Can guys not enjoy their drink?
- 4:27Speaker 3: Well?
- 4:27Speaker 2: I just find that an unusual drink of choice. But no, no,
- 4:30Speaker 2: it's fine if you want to. You're you're a soccer fan.
- 4:33Speaker 2: That tells me everything I need. You're probably drinking the
- 4:36Speaker 2: selter watching your soccer and exactly that explained. That explains everything.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So okay, I completely understand. Is Ian on with us now?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yes?
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm right Now, Well, Ian, answer when I see
- 4:46Speaker 1: your name, I've been talking, you have been talking.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he just can't hear you because you're not in
- 4:51Speaker 3: the studio, Michael, Yeah, exactly, Michael. Wan't you come in
- 4:53Speaker 3: the studio sometimes? Why is that.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Because I have to mute my mic so that you
- 4:59Speaker 1: can hear them?
- 5:00Speaker 2: That makes no sense. Why do you have to meet Oh?
- 5:03Speaker 2: Because I'm over here, Michael. We've done this a thousand times.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I know I forgot. Okay, this is gonna stink. But
- 5:09Speaker 2: oh well, all right then, so that's gonna be a
- 5:12Speaker 2: pain in the butt. But oh well, all right, Well
- 5:14Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Ian, I didn't hear what you were saying,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and so hopefully someday this studio and radio station will
- 5:22Speaker 2: get that resolve.
- 5:22Speaker 3: But okay, so.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Ian you drink Seltzers or do you not drink Seltzers? Well,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm on their age right now, so I can't technically
- 5:30Speaker 1: drink so oh that's right. Oh okay, sorry about that? Yeah, sure, sure.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And you've never had a drink before in your life?
- 5:39Speaker 3: Is that correct? Absolutely? None, never had a drink once.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Oh good for you. Okay, Well, I.
- 5:46Speaker 2: When you become of age, what will be the first
- 5:49Speaker 2: thing you want to drink?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Mound New Hearts? It'll be white hard. You ever heard
- 5:56Speaker 3: what of those? Are? I have not heard of that?
- 5:59Speaker 3: Have you heard of one of those? Matthew? Yeah, it's
- 6:02Speaker 3: just like Mountain Dew makes it.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It's like a hard version of their drinks.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I didn't know Mountain dew. Okay, I didn't know Mountain dew.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Is all right, So you're a Mountain Dew drinker, is
- 6:11Speaker 2: what you're telling me? Is that correct?
- 6:12Speaker 3: I auntin de okay, I came in today with a
- 6:15Speaker 3: bound due Baja blast this morning.
- 6:18Speaker 4: You have to Taco Crazy. No, no, you can get them.
- 6:21Speaker 4: You can get them in cans at stores now. So
- 6:23Speaker 4: I just decided to do that.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Oh see, I I still remember when you could only
- 6:27Speaker 2: get them at Taco Bell. Wasn't it just Taco Bell
- 6:30Speaker 2: that you could only get those?
- 6:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it was just a Taco Bell exclusive. I used
- 6:33Speaker 4: to work there for like a year, like maybe last year.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Last year I worked at it. No, not last year, sorry,
- 6:39Speaker 4: two years ago. I worked at a Taco Bell for
- 6:40Speaker 4: like a year long. I did not like my experience there.
- 6:45Speaker 3: All right?
- 6:45Speaker 2: That that raises an interesting question for me to both
- 6:48Speaker 2: of y'all. Matthew, have you ever worked at a fast
- 6:51Speaker 2: food restaurant?
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yes? I worked at a subway.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I was in high school, all right, all right, so great,
- 6:57Speaker 2: you worked at a subway, Ian worked at a Go Bell.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna start with you first, Matthew. Knowing how the
- 7:06Speaker 2: food is prepared, everything behind the scenes of that restaurant,
- 7:12Speaker 2: would you go back there as a patron to eat
- 7:15Speaker 2: their food on a regular basis?
- 7:18Speaker 3: Well, considering that was in twenty fifteen, didn't matter. It's okay.
- 7:22Speaker 1: They still haven't eaten there since then.
- 7:23Speaker 3: No, I would not, So you would not?
- 7:26Speaker 2: And what was it about there that made you not
- 7:30Speaker 2: want to go back?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Just like the quality of what they products they have
- 7:36Speaker 1: is horrible. Everything is frozen. Everything is literally just like
- 7:40Speaker 1: opened out of a plastic bag and warmed up. The
- 7:43Speaker 1: one thing that I always go back to is one
- 7:45Speaker 1: day I was working there and I was working a
- 7:47Speaker 1: double shift, like morning and night, and we had you know, they.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Have meatball subs there.
- 7:53Speaker 1: The meatballs obviously are literally just out of a bag
- 7:56Speaker 1: and they're heated up. That's fine if you like it,
- 7:57Speaker 1: that's fine. They sat in this warmer for like twelve
- 8:02Speaker 1: hours in the.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Oh, that's disgusted.
- 8:03Speaker 1: In the morning, yes, and night, all day nobody had it.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Usually we burned through those things. Nobody wanted them any
- 8:09Speaker 1: any of them all day. So at the end of
- 8:11Speaker 1: the day when we were closing up, I went to
- 8:12Speaker 1: go throw them away and a manager told me to
- 8:14Speaker 1: put them in the freezer and we use them tomorrow.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And no, yes, and this is a subway. This was
- 8:21Speaker 3: a subway.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, that's pretty bad. But that was eleven years
- 8:25Speaker 2: ago maybe or twelve years ago. Maybe they've they've changed
- 8:28Speaker 2: their ways. All right, Ian, you worked at Taco Bell,
- 8:33Speaker 2: now for me, Yeah, say what? You worked at Taco Bell?
- 8:37Speaker 3: Correct? Yes? I did? Okay, all right. How long ago
- 8:40Speaker 3: did you work there? I worked there in twenty twenty four,
- 8:44Speaker 3: twenty twenty three.
- 8:45Speaker 2: All right, So would you go back to Taco Bell
- 8:48Speaker 2: or have you been back to Taco Bell to eat
- 8:50Speaker 2: their food?
- 8:51Speaker 4: Absolutely, I've gone back to Taco Bell to eat their food.
- 8:54Speaker 4: It's just as bad as Mad is with their frozen food.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Everything is reheated and repackaged. The beans though, something I'll
- 9:02Speaker 4: never eat the beans are disgusting. The way we make
- 9:05Speaker 4: those is that we do we put the bean It's
- 9:09Speaker 4: like the beans are pellets. It's like little rabbit food pellets.
- 9:13Speaker 4: And what we do is that we put those pellets
- 9:15Speaker 4: into a medical metal container. We use hot water to
- 9:17Speaker 4: warm it up and make it into the beans that
- 9:19Speaker 4: it is.
- 9:20Speaker 3: To rehydrate them in.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yes, okay, that's news to me. I had no idea.
- 9:29Speaker 2: But what about the meat itself? I mean, is the
- 9:32Speaker 2: meat suspect completely frozen?
- 9:36Speaker 4: Every single meat is frozen and then gets re I
- 9:39Speaker 4: think it's reheated in a boiler.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Learning something like this, does this make you want to
- 9:47Speaker 2: go to Taco Bell or anything like that, Matthew?
- 9:50Speaker 3: Or does it? Does it not? I I probably won't
- 9:54Speaker 3: have the beans.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I'm not big of much of a beans eater anyway,
- 9:58Speaker 2: But it doesn't af me that terribly much like it
- 10:01Speaker 2: did you. I mean, I think it's different with I
- 10:03Speaker 2: won't have the meatball sandwich. I can tell you that
- 10:05Speaker 2: right now. But do you still go to Taco Bell
- 10:08Speaker 2: after hearing this?
- 10:10Speaker 1: I've hated Taco Bell since I was a child.
- 10:12Speaker 3: What oh you have?
- 10:13Speaker 1: I think it's foul, that's not that that is horse
- 10:16Speaker 1: meat in those tacos. I don't it tastes terrible. It's
- 10:21Speaker 1: it's made by a dude who's like seventeen years old.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He's probably high. Like I mean, like Taco Bell. Look,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you could say that for a lot of fast food places.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I don't know what about the vibe in there is.
- 10:33Speaker 1: It throws me off. The food is always horrible.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I hate it. I've never been a fan of Taco Bell.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Matt, where would you go for a late night destination
- 10:41Speaker 4: if you're gonna have fast food? Wabble House every time. Okay,
- 10:44Speaker 4: that's a good pick. That's a good pick. But the
- 10:46Speaker 4: Subway meatballs I love them so much. That was my
- 10:49Speaker 4: that's my late late night to go pick when I
- 10:51Speaker 4: was in When I'm in college, there's no other place
- 10:53Speaker 4: that's open past ten pm except for Subway. And when
- 10:56Speaker 4: I need to get Subway, I give myself a meatball
- 10:58Speaker 4: sob with some Bochipulli sauce.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Best thing ever.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But you were, I mean you were in Bowling Green.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You guys had a what's it called cookout? Cookout?
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that's also a great spot.
- 11:08Speaker 4: But when you don't have the money, when you don't
- 11:09Speaker 4: have the money ees or meal swipes or meal planning
- 11:13Speaker 4: dollars that we have from Western Getting the meatball sub
- 11:17Speaker 4: is probably the best is probably the best decision you
- 11:19Speaker 4: can get.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Budget was See, I'm a white Castle guy.
- 11:23Speaker 2: When it's late night and I've gone out and had
- 11:25Speaker 2: a little too much, I craved the White Castle, and
- 11:28Speaker 2: I've got to go to the Castle.
- 11:30Speaker 1: White Castle is good too. I picked White Castle a lot,
- 11:32Speaker 1: Do you really?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, And see the best part about it, you get
- 11:35Speaker 2: you get your hamburgers. I usually get like three or four.
- 11:38Speaker 2: And then the way that Ian is about his mountain dew,
- 11:43Speaker 2: I am that same way about Big Red. I don't
- 11:46Speaker 2: drink it as much as I used to. I am
- 11:48Speaker 2: a that is my drink, without a doubt.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I do the same thing. Me my best friend,
- 11:55Speaker 1: we would leave the bars. We would always go to
- 11:57Speaker 1: White Castle. I don't get the hamburgers there. I think
- 12:00Speaker 1: the hamburgers they're a foul I think they look like
- 12:03Speaker 1: lunch meat. I don't like them, but you're gonna make
- 12:06Speaker 1: fun of me. I get the fish sandwiches from White Castle.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Long John Silvers should be doing good. Oh my gosh,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you're so good. I get I get four fish sandwiches,
- 12:16Speaker 1: A large fra and a large big red. Every single
- 12:18Speaker 1: time I go there, that's what I get.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Wow, four fish sandwiches just to that, I'm sorry, Ian,
- 12:26Speaker 2: would you say just go to.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Long John Silvers or Moby Dick So sometimes see.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's another one. I am a Long John Silver
- 12:36Speaker 2: sand So I've got to go.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I'm in Oa Kalad today and uh usually one of
- 12:43Speaker 1: my go to places is right there because there's not
- 12:45Speaker 1: much to choose from an ok.
- 12:46Speaker 3: It's a small town.
- 12:48Speaker 2: But I love Long John Silvers, So I'll probably have
- 12:51Speaker 2: that for lunch day now because of you saying that,
- 12:53Speaker 2: And I know that's I know that's probably the worst
- 12:55Speaker 2: fish in the world, but I love them. I mean,
- 12:58Speaker 2: I just I've always loved long Jumps. You're group.
- 13:03Speaker 4: I think it's I'm pretty sure Long John Silver's actually
- 13:05Speaker 4: started in Kentucky. I think it was founded in Kentucky.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It actually was, and I believe it was started in Lexington,
- 13:13Speaker 2: but the home office is now in Louisville out there
- 13:16Speaker 2: off of Hurstburn Lane. But yeah, good call right there
- 13:18Speaker 2: and you're exactly correct. But uh, yeah, it doesn't sound
- 13:22Speaker 2: like a place. That's the part. It's Like, when is
- 13:24Speaker 2: somebody going to come up with a restaurant idea besides KFC,
- 13:29Speaker 2: which is no longer in Louisville. Because you got Texas
- 13:33Speaker 2: Roadhouse founded in Louisville, you got Long John Silver's found
- 13:37Speaker 2: in Louisville. Why why can't we have another Kentucky something,
- 13:40Speaker 2: a Louisville something. It has to be another state. I just,
- 13:43Speaker 2: for the life may I've never understood that we had Papa.
- 13:45Speaker 3: John's for a minute. Yeah, for a minute, right, so
- 13:51Speaker 3: that thing happened. We all know what happened there. I mean,
- 13:53Speaker 3: what what is Louisville going to produce?
- 13:55Speaker 1: Like we're gonna get like a like a Korean barbecue
- 13:57Speaker 1: restaurant this house here?
- 13:58Speaker 3: What are we gonna get like all we have we're
- 14:02Speaker 3: gonna have a swimmer Bowl player or something like that, swarmer.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Crawfish absolutely not whenever, We're not gonna get crawfish off it.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I love crawfish. I could eat crawfish almost every day.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Most overrated food of all time, You've lost. I love seafood, crawfish.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I have to, like I'm putting in a nine to
- 14:24Speaker 1: five to eat my food like I'm having Like I
- 14:26Speaker 1: should get paid to eat crawfish or how much work
- 14:28Speaker 1: it takes?
- 14:29Speaker 3: Wow, how little I'm getting. It's horrible.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Then you're eating it the wrong way because it's literally
- 14:35Speaker 2: not that difficult to eat crawfish. Crab that's hard to
- 14:38Speaker 2: get to eat, Okay, crab.
- 14:40Speaker 1: At least meat on I'm basically eating the gnats outside.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm eating crawfish, all right. Well, I'm a crawfish guy. So, uh,
- 14:49Speaker 1: but you you went to a wedding.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm curious to what the the young intern ian did
- 14:54Speaker 2: for the weekend.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Did you have a big weekend this weekend?
- 14:57Speaker 4: The an well, I went down to the Renaissance Festival.
- 15:00Speaker 4: He wanted to go and see that real badly sid
- 15:02Speaker 4: side to go with him. So uh, it was my
- 15:05Speaker 4: older brother. He wanted to take me along. That's why
- 15:07Speaker 4: I went. But the Renaissance Festival is pretty fine. So
- 15:10Speaker 4: you got some odd people there, but it was it
- 15:12Speaker 4: was a fun place to go to. He's got some
- 15:16Speaker 4: odd people there. That's a great description on how the was.
- 15:22Speaker 4: There was a guy in yellow speaking tongues to my
- 15:24Speaker 4: little brother. I thought he put a curse on the
- 15:25Speaker 4: guy or something.
- 15:27Speaker 3: There was a guy speaking tongues.
- 15:29Speaker 4: He was wearing all yellow and he was just speaking
- 15:31Speaker 4: some gibberish. I don't know what he said. My little
- 15:33Speaker 4: brother didn't know what he said.
- 15:34Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 15:35Speaker 4: He's probably speaking some Lord of the Rings kind of
- 15:38Speaker 4: language or something. Maybe he was speaking Elvin. Yeah, that's
- 15:42Speaker 4: not my thing.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I mean I understand people are really into that kind
- 15:45Speaker 2: of stuff, and they spend lots of money, I believe,
- 15:49Speaker 2: don't they were Uh, they get their costume and all
- 15:52Speaker 2: their gadget accessories and they spend all kinds of money
- 15:56Speaker 2: on that stuff.
- 15:57Speaker 3: And good for them if they can do that.
- 15:59Speaker 4: But as my thing, well, I did spend sixty dollars
- 16:02Speaker 4: on a Samurai sword, so but that was worth there.
- 16:05Speaker 3: He goes sixty dollars on a Samurai.
- 16:07Speaker 4: That was worth it. That was pretty cool, Okay. I
- 16:09Speaker 4: made me feel like what was the movie? Uh, step Brothers?
- 16:14Speaker 4: You know Step Brothers is what you're talking about? The
- 16:16Speaker 4: Samurai story. Yeah, maybe feel like John c Riley's good.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Never never thought we would be talking about Samurai.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Or anybody has ever said that they were happy to
- 16:27Speaker 1: feel like John c Riley before we would have.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Though John Rally's great.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I think John c Rally is one of the most
- 16:34Speaker 2: underrated actors out there. I think he is funny and
- 16:37Speaker 2: to me when he when he and Will Ferrell do
- 16:40Speaker 2: a movie together, John c Riley steals the show. I
- 16:42Speaker 2: think he's the funniest of both of them. I agree
- 16:45Speaker 2: with that. John c rally is always amazing in every
- 16:47Speaker 2: movie he does. I loved him in The Talladgan Knights,
- 16:50Speaker 2: and I loved him and Step Brothers as well.
- 16:54Speaker 3: He was great in both. Yeah.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Also Sherlock Holmes. That's a little bit of underrated one
- 16:57Speaker 4: that I'd.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Like to He's been in all kinds of great movies.
- 17:00Speaker 2: People don't realize why are you smirking about that? I mean,
- 17:03Speaker 2: you're just not a John c Riley fan there, Matthew.
- 17:06Speaker 3: No.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I mean Shelo was a horrible movie. It is Laurel
- 17:10Speaker 1: and Hardy. He was in Laurel and Hardy. That was
- 17:12Speaker 1: really good.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:14Speaker 2: What was the one fishing movie that he was in
- 17:17Speaker 2: with Mark Wahlberg?
- 17:20Speaker 3: Where the the the boat movie? Yeah, he was in
- 17:23Speaker 3: a fishing movie.
- 17:25Speaker 2: With Mark Wahlberg and the other famous actor from Kentucky.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I can't think of his name, big actor, but Mark
- 17:32Speaker 2: Wahlberg fishing movie and he was in He was in
- 17:35Speaker 2: that movie with him.
- 17:37Speaker 3: It's about What's He and Gilbert Grape with the n Depp.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I did not see that one. He's he's in He's
- 17:44Speaker 3: in What's Head and Gilbert Grave. That's a good movie
- 17:46Speaker 3: that he's in. Really okay. He was in Boogie Knights.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yes, that's the only one that I can see that
- 17:54Speaker 1: comes up when I type in John c Riley and
- 17:56Speaker 1: Mark Wahlberg movies.
- 17:57Speaker 3: There's another one though, that he was in.
- 18:00Speaker 2: It was a fishing movie and uh, which was really
- 18:04Speaker 2: good and they died at the end.
- 18:09Speaker 3: You gotta be a different movie or a different actor
- 18:12Speaker 3: or something.
- 18:13Speaker 2: No, it was, I promise you the perfect storm. That's it.
- 18:17Speaker 3: That's what it's called. The perfect storm. That was.
- 18:20Speaker 2: That was That was with uh Mark Wahlberg. And I
- 18:25Speaker 2: can't think of the other guy that's uh, the big
- 18:28Speaker 2: actor from Louisville. I can't think of our Kentucky. I
- 18:31Speaker 2: can't think of what it's like. No, not Johnny Depp.
- 18:35Speaker 2: There's another guy that's from George Clooney, thank you. So Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 2: he was in all.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Kinds of this movie. I've never seen the movie. Yeah, exactly. See,
- 18:46Speaker 3: I told you you didn't want to believe me.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I've never seen the I never didn't know this was
- 18:50Speaker 1: a movie.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Oh you've never seen the movie either, The Perfect Storm. Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 2: it was an okay movie. I mean it's it was fine.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Not one of mine. It's a true story, by the way.
- 19:00Speaker 2: But anyway, all right, we got to take a break.
- 19:03Speaker 2: When we come back, I want to talk about some championships.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna let y'all choose which one you want to
- 19:10Speaker 2: talk about, because clearly I know what Matthew is probably
- 19:13Speaker 2: gonna pick what championship.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Game he want was because this is the weekend of championships.
- 19:17Speaker 3: That was it.
- 19:18Speaker 2: And then, of course a little later on the show,
- 19:22Speaker 2: Matthew will take over for a segment to talk about
- 19:26Speaker 2: Team USA winning their game on Friday night. I looked
- 19:29Speaker 2: forward to this segment. I enjoyed it on Friday. And so, Ian,
- 19:35Speaker 2: have you watched any of the soccer at all?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Not really, I haven't.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I've watched maybe a little bit here and there, Like
- 19:41Speaker 4: I watched the Japan and the Netherlands games when I
- 19:45Speaker 4: was at Drakes.
- 19:46Speaker 3: That was the only time I really watched it much.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Okay, we don't need to be giving free advertisements all
- 19:52Speaker 2: the places you're going to.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Okay, so, but I'm just kidding.
- 19:55Speaker 2: You can do whatever you want to, Ian, I don't
- 19:57Speaker 2: I don't care as long as you keep it cleaning above.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So all right, let's go ahead and take our first break.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Fable two three four fourteen fifty. You want to call
- 20:04Speaker 2: Fable two four one four fourteen fifty if you want
- 20:07Speaker 2: to uh text in on the Whiskey ted text line

- 20:15Speaker 2: talk about. This is Monday morning, Just the Cat. Stay
- 20:18Speaker 2: right there, lamp on the screen.
- 20:22Speaker 3: You just line thank You can fight, you can if
- 20:36Speaker 3: you say something so love, but no, I gotta let.
- 20:41Speaker 2: You Babo two three eight four fourteen fifty if you
- 20:47Speaker 2: want to call in fab O two four one four
- 20:49Speaker 2: fourteen fifty.
- 20:49Speaker 3: You want to text in on the whiskey teed text line.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Are you tweeting at Just the Cat Radio with Matthew
- 20:54Speaker 2: Childer today as well? Ian, I don't know your last name.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Would you please tell me what it is?
- 20:59Speaker 4: It's Blandford Blair Blanford, Ian Blamford, Yeah, bland and fordflan Ford.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Am I saying it correctly. Say it again, Blamford.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yeah you're saying right, you're good okay or bland Ford
- 21:16Speaker 2: as you just said, I'll say blame Ford if that's
- 21:18Speaker 2: what you want me to say.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it does. Yeah, all right, good, Well.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I appreciate you coming on because you're a rising sophomore
- 21:29Speaker 2: at Western Kentucky University.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Correct. Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 2: And your family they're not necessarily UK fans, is that correct?
- 21:38Speaker 4: Absolutely not. It bleeds red the entire way of my family.
- 21:43Speaker 2: This is so sad. I mean, your family has to change.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Look at how nice to you. I'm letting you come
- 21:48Speaker 2: on a UK show and talk and learn how to
- 21:52Speaker 2: be on the radio, because that's your ultimate goal, is that?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Correct that? Or be on TV? On TV? Okay, you
- 22:00Speaker 3: need to do this, or become a play by play announcer.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I see, I like that too, and then that's ultimately
- 22:07Speaker 2: I think what Matthew wants to do is in it
- 22:08Speaker 2: one day, Matthew, Yes, it is, yeah exactly. So hopefully
- 22:14Speaker 2: we'll see Matthew on down in Tampa, Florida one of
- 22:17Speaker 2: these days, and you'll be on the news or on
- 22:20Speaker 2: the radio down there, because you'll you'll be talking Tampa
- 22:23Speaker 2: Bay Bucks lightning rays everything there.
- 22:27Speaker 1: That's the goal, the reason we're moving there.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, Okay, good, all right, I'm gonna Matthew, I'm
- 22:32Speaker 2: gonna give you the choice. Which do you want to
- 22:36Speaker 2: talk about first? As far as championships? We had three
- 22:39Speaker 2: championships this weekend. We had a hockey championship, we had
- 22:44Speaker 2: a NBA championship, and we had a football championship. Which
- 22:51Speaker 2: do you want to choose as far as the topic
- 22:55Speaker 2: we talk first?
- 22:56Speaker 3: Well, only watch one of them? So or did Okay?
- 23:00Speaker 3: So which one? Did you watch? The football one? You
- 23:04Speaker 3: watch the football one?
- 23:05Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about the Kings winning the UFL
- 23:08Speaker 2: champs Championship game over in Washington, DC. You give me
- 23:15Speaker 2: your synopsis how this season went, and do you think
- 23:20Speaker 2: moving forward this will become more and more popular as
- 23:24Speaker 2: a sport in general, and or as a league in general,
- 23:29Speaker 2: and here in the city of Louisville.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I mean, the league started off as bad as it
- 23:34Speaker 1: possibly could have, starting zero to three, and then you
- 23:37Speaker 1: fire your offensive line head coach for an offensive line
- 23:40Speaker 1: that already was terrible. Then you trade your quarterback to
- 23:44Speaker 1: the team that you played this weekend in the you
- 23:48Speaker 1: know the unit bolity.
- 23:51Speaker 3: That's the craziest part right there.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you trade your starting quarterback away, you go with
- 23:55Speaker 1: Chandler Rogers at your backup, and then, I mean ever
- 23:57Speaker 1: since then, I mean it's completely turned around.
- 23:59Speaker 3: They won eight of their last nine.
- 24:01Speaker 1: The offensive line looked mentally better, the run game looked
- 24:05Speaker 1: i mentally better, the defense as Jamie Sharper and the
- 24:07Speaker 1: defense as the defensive coordinators done a great job all season.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It's really just been getting the offense going, and they
- 24:13Speaker 1: did that. Chris Revan finally got to figure it out.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Steve Logan finally got to figure it out. It was
- 24:18Speaker 1: such a fun season to watch. I think it will
- 24:20Speaker 1: grow in popularity this year because at least for this year,
- 24:24Speaker 1: it was a lot. It was marketed a lot better
- 24:26Speaker 1: than it was the season prior. Uh, there was obviously
- 24:29Speaker 1: games on primetime basically every single week throughout this season
- 24:32Speaker 1: that if there wasn't anything all so on, Fox was
- 24:36Speaker 1: broadcasting it live and you could hop in this and
- 24:38Speaker 1: that and Louisville itself, even their home games broke attendance
- 24:42Speaker 1: records and viewership records for their games. I think they
- 24:44Speaker 1: averaged over a million viewers for like their last five
- 24:47Speaker 1: or six games, which.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Is really good for them.
- 24:49Speaker 1: It won't be like huge, huge, Like I'm not gonna
- 24:52Speaker 1: sit here and blow smoke and then say it's gonna
- 24:54Speaker 1: rival the NFL.
- 24:55Speaker 3: It's a play. It won't.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I mean it's gonna be It'll be a developmental league
- 24:58Speaker 1: for its entirety, which is fine. But for me, it's
- 25:03Speaker 1: one where I kind of already. If you're somebody that's
- 25:08Speaker 1: from this city, you know that the you know, the
- 25:09Speaker 1: people in the city get behind sports like like crazy,
- 25:12Speaker 1: but you have to win. You have to win no
- 25:14Speaker 1: matter what if you want people to get behind you,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and they did so it makes me happy to know
- 25:18Speaker 1: that it's here to stay.
- 25:19Speaker 3: There's gonna be even more excite.
- 25:20Speaker 1: But next year, if you had any questions about if
- 25:22Speaker 1: you wanted to get into it this past season, you
- 25:24Speaker 1: know now there's fans for it.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Now that people are going to tell you bout this.
- 25:26Speaker 1: People gonna want to go and it's and I think
- 25:29Speaker 1: it will gain some popularity as the league expands. And
- 25:33Speaker 1: it was a fun it's a fun season. It was
- 25:35Speaker 1: really it was a blessing getting to cover.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Is this something that Chris Redman will get a lot
- 25:40Speaker 2: of credit for and because was he the one making
- 25:45Speaker 2: all these decisions by himself or will he just get
- 25:49Speaker 2: the credit because of the fact that he's the head coach.
- 25:52Speaker 3: I don't know if he's the one.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I mean, he's the one making the final decision as
- 25:56Speaker 1: the head coach, Yes, but I don't know if he
- 25:57Speaker 1: was doing it by himself. I imagine guys like Jamie Sharper
- 26:00Speaker 1: and Steve Logan had something to say about it. The
- 26:02Speaker 1: firing of your one of your head coaches in the
- 26:05Speaker 1: beginning of the season was one hundred percent of his decision.
- 26:06Speaker 1: He came up and said, Hey, this is on me.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I did this, Trey, Jason, me and I imagine Steve
- 26:12Speaker 1: Logan had a piece of that here and there, and
- 26:14Speaker 1: some of the guys they picked up on defense, like
- 26:16Speaker 1: Jamie Sharper had a piece of that. But yes, he
- 26:18Speaker 1: will get a lot of credit for this. This will
- 26:20Speaker 1: go on his resume. I mean, he was the talk
- 26:22Speaker 1: of the town for about twelve hours after the game
- 26:25Speaker 1: was over. The Ravens gave him Chris Redmond shout out
- 26:28Speaker 1: that night, which was really cool.
- 26:30Speaker 3: They were talking about on ESPN all day.
- 26:32Speaker 1: It was a really cool moment to see that the
- 26:33Speaker 1: city of Louisville got to win a football championship before
- 26:36Speaker 1: the city of Buffalo, New York did.
- 26:39Speaker 3: That's true. I didn't even think about that.
- 26:41Speaker 1: You're exactly correct now, But is this something where the
- 26:46Speaker 1: city of Louisville can say, look at how much we
- 26:48Speaker 1: supported this team and all the records we broke, we broke.
- 26:52Speaker 1: You need to bring a major league something to this
- 26:56Speaker 1: city because they're going to embrace it and support it,
- 27:00Speaker 1: and it's going to be a financial dividend for all
- 27:03Speaker 1: the ownership that brings whatever professional team they bring to Louisville. No,
- 27:07Speaker 1: it's one hundred percent. That's what I've been pushing all season.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I was we were doing three man front stuff this year.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Is that.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Look, I'm going to be a little bit of a
- 27:14Speaker 1: Debbie Downer hater right now. Is that the reason Louisville
- 27:17Speaker 1: doesn't have anything professional anymore. If you're a person who
- 27:22Speaker 1: genuinely wants whether you want professional soccer, you want the NBA,
- 27:25Speaker 1: if you want an NFL team or something, if you
- 27:27Speaker 1: want a professional sports team, you have to adapt these
- 27:31Speaker 1: semi professional teams now you have to, like, you don't
- 27:34Speaker 1: have to spend all your money and get all the
- 27:35Speaker 1: merchant get seasons. You have to do that, but you
- 27:37Speaker 1: have to accept that they're here and you have to
- 27:39Speaker 1: enjoy them. You have to love them while they're here.
- 27:41Speaker 1: You have to support them in some way, because why
- 27:44Speaker 1: would a professional sports franchise want to move to Louisville
- 27:47Speaker 1: If they say, well, they can't and get people there
- 27:49Speaker 1: for their their minor league league. They can't get anybody
- 27:52Speaker 1: there for the UFL team, They can't anybody there for
- 27:54Speaker 1: their their ABA basketball team. You think, why would we
- 27:57Speaker 1: want to put an NBA team there? So if you're
- 27:59Speaker 1: a person out there that every single time Louisville gets
- 28:01Speaker 1: a chance to get us my professional team, you just say, oh,
- 28:05Speaker 1: it's not gonna work. Nobody in Louisville likes football, nobody
- 28:08Speaker 1: want we like basketball. If you're just that closed minded,
- 28:10Speaker 1: we're never gonna get anything like. So it does show
- 28:14Speaker 1: that the city got behind this team. They got behind
- 28:17Speaker 1: Louisville City when they started. They got behind the bats
- 28:20Speaker 1: when they first started that there's been inklings that you know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: there's gonna be a new stadium built in Butcher Town
- 28:25Speaker 1: and we might get a hockey team or something at
- 28:27Speaker 1: some point. Like if you get behind that stuff. It's
- 28:31Speaker 1: not a guarantee that we ever get something, but at
- 28:33Speaker 1: least it shows guys like Adam Silver, like Roger Goodell,
- 28:37Speaker 1: like all these conditioners that hey, there's an untapped sports
- 28:40Speaker 1: market over there. They have showed out for literally every
- 28:43Speaker 1: sport in the minor leagues. Imagine what they'll do with
- 28:47Speaker 1: professional team. So I'm not sitting here saying that you
- 28:50Speaker 1: have that. If you do it, it's gonna guarantee we
- 28:51Speaker 1: get a team at some point. But if you don't
- 28:53Speaker 1: support it, we're never gonna get something.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Exactly, Yeah, because I don't ever foresee Louisville getting like
- 29:02Speaker 2: an NFL team. I don't ever foresee Louisville getting a
- 29:06Speaker 2: major league baseball team, purely because you got Cincinnati just
- 29:10Speaker 2: right up the road for baseball, you got for NFL,
- 29:14Speaker 2: you got in and at we're surrounded by NFL teams.
- 29:17Speaker 2: You got Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Nashville. So I don't see
- 29:22Speaker 2: that happening. The two sports. And y'all correct me if
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'm wrong, and you join in as well. But Matthew,
- 29:29Speaker 2: the two sports professionally major league sports that Louisville could
- 29:34Speaker 2: potentially get one day, and I know a lot of
- 29:37Speaker 2: people roll their eyes when I say this. Number one's
- 29:40Speaker 2: NBA and Number one B is hockey, because there's nothing
- 29:47Speaker 2: close to Louisville. It's in Annapolis, doesn't have a team
- 29:50Speaker 2: other than Nashville, and that's that's three hours away. You
- 29:54Speaker 2: got Columbus, which just three hours away. Cincinnati and Annapolis
- 29:57Speaker 2: do not have hockey teams. I just feel like hockey,
- 30:02Speaker 2: if you gave it a chance and went to a
- 30:05Speaker 2: game lib to see how exciting those games are, that
- 30:09Speaker 2: would be something that the city would.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Definitely and absolutely support.
- 30:15Speaker 1: You.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Look at I'll give you some examples of small markets.
- 30:19Speaker 3: I think.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Look looking at Raleigh, who just won the Stanley Cup
- 30:24Speaker 2: this weekend. People don't realize. They always think that the
- 30:27Speaker 2: Carolina team is in Charlotte because it's the largest city
- 30:30Speaker 2: in the state of North Carolina.
- 30:32Speaker 3: It's Raleigh that has the team.
- 30:35Speaker 2: And can you imagine the celebration and the support that
- 30:39Speaker 2: that team and that city is getting right now is
- 30:42Speaker 2: nothing short of phenomenal. I let you know, there were
- 30:44Speaker 2: down two games to one, come back and win the
- 30:47Speaker 2: Stanley Cup. It was an exciting series. And to have
- 30:51Speaker 2: that here in Louisville, this city would be going nuts.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Between that or an NBA team, I kind of compare
- 30:57Speaker 2: Oklahoma City. I know you don't like that team, Matthew,
- 31:01Speaker 2: but the Thunder almost came to Louisville. And if it
- 31:05Speaker 2: weren't for a particular school here and down athletic director
- 31:08Speaker 2: and a basketball coach at that one school, we would
- 31:11Speaker 2: have had the Thunder here in Louisville, and we could
- 31:13Speaker 2: have been celebrating a national championship last year, and this
- 31:18Speaker 2: city would be going crazy.
- 31:20Speaker 3: And I just I wish we could do something like that. Ian.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Do you think Louisville could support a professional, major league
- 31:28Speaker 2: professional team.
- 31:29Speaker 3: I think we absolutely could.
- 31:31Speaker 4: My dad I always talk to my dad about this
- 31:33Speaker 4: and that if we had an NBA team, we'd probably
- 31:35Speaker 4: be like one of the best small market teams in
- 31:37Speaker 4: the entire like league. But my dad always thinks otherwise, like, no,
- 31:42Speaker 4: it's not gonna happen, it's not gonna work now. No, No,
- 31:46Speaker 4: I always thought, O the West, I feel like Louisville's
- 31:48Speaker 4: the biggest small small markets you can look for when
- 31:52Speaker 4: it comes to expansion right now.
- 31:57Speaker 3: I don't what's that? That's my take, That's what I said.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, perfect, Matthew, I mean, I look at
- 32:05Speaker 2: this and think Louisville needs to take this King's Championship
- 32:09Speaker 2: and expand from it, and and and show these other
- 32:12Speaker 2: teams out there that are looking maybe for a new
- 32:15Speaker 2: home or a league that's maybe looking to expand come
- 32:18Speaker 2: to Louisville. I just why they don't push it more
- 32:22Speaker 2: than that. I just I don't understand.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Money, Like I think that the City of Louisville is
- 32:30Speaker 1: a little afraid to invest in something in all opinion.
- 32:33Speaker 1: And the reason I think this is a couple of
- 32:35Speaker 1: years ago Louisville City, the semi professional soccer team, had
- 32:39Speaker 1: the opportunity got offered the opportunity to move up into
- 32:42Speaker 1: the MLS, got got offered the opportunity to become an
- 32:46Speaker 1: expansion team in the MLS, and we turned it down
- 32:49Speaker 1: because we didn't want to expand our stadium because they
- 32:52Speaker 1: were that was that was a non negotiable that are
- 32:55Speaker 1: Lynn family state would be too small like that they
- 32:57Speaker 1: have like stadium size requirements for their league. They had
- 33:00Speaker 1: to expand their stadium and they would have had to pay,
- 33:02Speaker 1: like I think it was like a two or three
- 33:03Speaker 1: million dollar fee to join the MLS to get put
- 33:06Speaker 1: in a conference and this and that, and the city
- 33:09Speaker 1: said no. The city said, word for word, verbatim, that's
- 33:12Speaker 1: not the that's not the direction we want to go
- 33:14Speaker 1: in at this moment.
- 33:15Speaker 3: And that's why you that.
- 33:17Speaker 1: That was the whole reason that f C Cincinnati is
- 33:19Speaker 1: a team in the MLS. Now they were going to
- 33:21Speaker 1: choose us, they chose them instead, and they've been a thriving,
- 33:25Speaker 1: prosperous team since there.
- 33:26Speaker 3: They've had so much success.
- 33:27Speaker 1: So it's one where it's just money grubbing. People up
- 33:32Speaker 1: at the top don't want a part of it because
- 33:35Speaker 1: they know they're going to have to invest in it.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And I think that, you know, as much as I
- 33:40Speaker 1: love Louisville, I think the Young Center's kind of frightened
- 33:42Speaker 1: the city of Louisville a little bit.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I well, explain yourself, what do you mean, the frightened having.
- 33:49Speaker 1: To subsidize the building Whenever Louisville built it, and they
- 33:52Speaker 1: didn't have a lot of money coming in, the mayor
- 33:55Speaker 1: had to kind of bail u of l out and
- 33:57Speaker 1: help them out and this and that. So I think
- 33:59Speaker 1: it's frightened them. I think that because, like you said that,
- 34:01Speaker 1: like you said before, the original plan was for an
- 34:03Speaker 1: NBA team to come here and fill that stadium and
- 34:05Speaker 1: they would share it with University of Louisville, and that
- 34:08Speaker 1: not working out lost them a lot of money. They
- 34:09Speaker 1: had to rely on concerts and events and stuff like that,
- 34:13Speaker 1: which don't you know, sell out every single ye every
- 34:16Speaker 1: single day in the year. And I think the city
- 34:19Speaker 1: of Louisville for a long time was really afraid to
- 34:22Speaker 1: expand into something like that.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Financially.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I'm hoping that's here to change because we've seen the
- 34:27Speaker 1: success in so many different sports. Now, if we get
- 34:30Speaker 1: another semi professional team and people buy into it, like
- 34:33Speaker 1: they can say, we get hockey or something, and the fans,
- 34:36Speaker 1: you know, I know there's a lot of hockey fans
- 34:38Speaker 1: here in Louisville, they buy into it, and then we
- 34:40Speaker 1: still don't have any inkling of like, oh, we're pushing
- 34:43Speaker 1: to get this, we're pushing to get this. And it's
- 34:45Speaker 1: then I understand if you've given up. I understand if
- 34:47Speaker 1: you've given up supporting these teams. I completely get it,
- 34:50Speaker 1: because then at that point it's not on the fans,
- 34:52Speaker 1: it's on the leadership in Louisville. It's on it's in
- 34:54Speaker 1: it's on mayor Greenberg. It's on the it's on the
- 34:57Speaker 1: you know, the Congress in Louisll. It's all that stuff, like,
- 34:59Speaker 1: if you don't want to financially invest in your city,
- 35:01Speaker 1: that's you're problem.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and see that's where I agree. It is on
- 35:05Speaker 2: a governor, it's on a mayor that for some reason,
- 35:10Speaker 2: it's been this way for years. I mean, you know,
- 35:12Speaker 2: we had mayor for life, Jerry Abmson. That to me,
- 35:16Speaker 2: wildly popular. But it's like, why was he The city
- 35:20Speaker 2: just dwindled every time he was doing something out there.
- 35:23Speaker 2: It was the lack of doing as far as I'm concerned.
- 35:25Speaker 2: So I just this city is not going to grow
- 35:29Speaker 2: unless we have some sort of major league sport here
- 35:33Speaker 2: in town. And that's been the frustrating part to me.
- 35:35Speaker 2: We just don't have it.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Now.
- 35:37Speaker 2: I didn't know this story about the soccer team. That's
- 35:40Speaker 2: news to me. I mean, how long ago did this happen, Matthew?
- 35:42Speaker 2: That was what year did FC Cincinnati join? Four or five?
- 35:46Speaker 3: Wow?
- 35:47Speaker 1: Okay, because Louisville City won the USL Cup then placed
- 35:52Speaker 1: in the Eastern College Finals like four straight years, and
- 35:55Speaker 1: the MLS reached out to Louisville and said, hey, we
- 35:58Speaker 1: want you to be the next expansion team, but you
- 36:00Speaker 1: have to pay this fee. You have to build a
- 36:03Speaker 1: whole new They had just built Lynn Family Stadium, they
- 36:05Speaker 1: had just built it. They were saying, you don't have
- 36:07Speaker 1: to build whole new stadium, but you have to expand it.
- 36:09Speaker 1: There has to be more seats, and we said no,
- 36:11Speaker 1: We said no. F C Cincinnati built theirs and now
- 36:14Speaker 1: there's not gonna be expansion team for a little bit.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So there we had a chance, and the city passed.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Up on just inexcuseable as far as I'm concerned. So
- 36:25Speaker 3: all right, we.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Gotta take a break. We gotta talk about NIXT. We
- 36:28Speaker 2: got to talk about UK targeting a athleic director, a
- 36:32Speaker 2: potential athleic director name has come and emerged as far
- 36:36Speaker 2: as the lead, so we'll talk about that as well.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Stay right there a lot more just the Cats coming
- 36:41Speaker 2: right up. Two four fourteen fifty one. A text on
- 37:16Speaker 2: the Whiskey thief text line, Uh, let's get to a
- 37:20Speaker 2: few of those right now. One person texted, we have indies, man, true, yeah,
- 37:29Speaker 2: that is very true. I don't go to indies for
- 37:34Speaker 2: late night though. Indies to me is any time, and
- 37:39Speaker 2: trust me, Michael Bennett sitting right here at eight fifty
- 37:44Speaker 2: in the.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Morning on a Monday. I love Indies. I do.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I get their eighteen piece wing every time, and sometimes
- 37:52Speaker 2: I get their rib tips. Are you an Indies fan?
- 37:55Speaker 2: I'm a huge Indies fan. I haven't had it in
- 37:57Speaker 2: a little bit that I'll be honest, but you.
- 37:58Speaker 4: And me both, Yeah, I'm sorry, but I've never had
- 38:02Speaker 4: Indies before once.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Oh, this is terrible news. I know.
- 38:06Speaker 4: I know everybody's told me so many great things about
- 38:08Speaker 4: it and I've never had it once.
- 38:10Speaker 3: That's a cardinal sin, it really is.
- 38:14Speaker 4: I feel like I've betrayed the entire litvel fan base.
- 38:16Speaker 4: But it's not being able to eat Indies ones.
- 38:19Speaker 2: The crazy part is, I believe there is an Indies
- 38:22Speaker 2: down in uh Tampa, Florida. Now, So Matthew and you move,
- 38:27Speaker 2: you will see an Indies Indies chicken down here, and
- 38:30Speaker 2: I believe down there, I think it is and it's
- 38:33Speaker 2: the same people. It kind of surprised me when I
- 38:36Speaker 2: saw fried Chicken. I looked up Indies and I believe
- 38:39Speaker 2: they just opened it up down there. So yeah, look
- 38:42Speaker 2: it up real quick and you let me know. But yeah,
- 38:44Speaker 2: I'm a I'm a huge indies fan, and I you've
- 38:47Speaker 2: got to change your way and go find you in
- 38:49Speaker 2: indies and get some of that chicken. Right now, they're
- 38:52Speaker 2: peach Cobbler is fantastic too. So one person said, the
- 38:55Speaker 2: perfect storm. I appreciate that. Yeah, we figured that one out,
- 38:59Speaker 2: so but I appreciate you letting me know that. John here, Wow,
- 39:03Speaker 2: so happy for Big Cat becoming an NBA champ. Last night,
- 39:07Speaker 2: UFC Freedom to Fifty on the White House Lawn was
- 39:10Speaker 2: an exciting event. The main event was a pretty darn
- 39:15Speaker 2: goood fight with American justin how do you say his name,
- 39:19Speaker 2: Gai gaith Key, I think it's Gai Chee Gaigie Okay,
- 39:23Speaker 2: getting the victory and becoming the new undisputed lightweight champion
- 39:28Speaker 2: of the world. I also was happy to see the
- 39:31Speaker 2: usmn T.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Get a victory.
- 39:34Speaker 2: They gave up a goal, however, they still put up
- 39:37Speaker 2: four goals of their own.
- 39:39Speaker 3: What do you think, Matthew.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Well, we'll talk about that next hour, so let's not
- 39:43Speaker 2: talk about that yet. But I did not watch the
- 39:47Speaker 2: UFC Freedom to fifty. Did you watch any of that, Matthew.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I got to watch a little bit of it, but
- 39:53Speaker 1: I wasn't wedding for like a long time for it
- 39:55Speaker 1: last night, so I can see a lot of it.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Ian, is that a thing for you? Did you watch
- 40:00Speaker 2: UFC fight?
- 40:02Speaker 4: Absolutely? I watched most of the fights. I think I
- 40:04Speaker 4: only missed one one.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Wow, it was.
- 40:07Speaker 4: The Michael Chandler and Fury fight. That was the only
- 40:10Speaker 4: fight I missed. But I watched every single fight. It's
- 40:12Speaker 4: pretty good stuff. Except for the Derek Luis Josh Hoky.
- 40:14Speaker 4: This looked like an old man getting beat down in
- 40:18Speaker 4: the middle of the street.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Basically s Derek Lewis.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Looks sad really Okay yea, so that one was not
- 40:23Speaker 2: well worth it. But do you think this is something
- 40:25Speaker 2: they should continue to do on the White House lawn?
- 40:29Speaker 4: The President allows allows it. Yes, it was a beautiful
- 40:32Speaker 4: It was a beautiful showcase.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I liked it a lot.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Every And you guys see all the fighters walk through
- 40:37Speaker 4: the White House and and like see all these historical
- 40:39Speaker 4: landmarks from inside the house.
- 40:41Speaker 3: It's beautiful. I think, pretty cool. Yeah, I think you
- 40:44Speaker 3: should do it again. Yeah, okay, good, all right?
- 40:46Speaker 2: So Ian said it, we should do it again, so
- 40:48Speaker 2: therefore they should do it.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Uh.
- 40:51Speaker 2: One person said the Perfect Storm is the movie He's
- 40:53Speaker 2: talking about with George Clooney.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you very much.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Uh, Patino and Jerik blocked the Hornets from real locating
- 41:00Speaker 2: in the Louisville in the early two thousands when they
- 41:02Speaker 2: initially left Charlotte, and he is correct, Ohio got thank
- 41:07Speaker 2: you for sending that that was the reason.
- 41:10Speaker 3: And I believe who was the mayor then too.
- 41:15Speaker 2: I'm not sure if that was Jerry Abramson or the
- 41:19Speaker 2: next guy, but you know, the three of them, the mayor, Patino,
- 41:23Speaker 2: and Jerk because they saw that U of L saw
- 41:26Speaker 2: it his competition and they're gonna lose corporate sponsorships. And
- 41:30Speaker 2: but there have to be other cities that have a
- 41:34Speaker 2: school in their city and a major league sport in
- 41:37Speaker 2: their city and they've successfully been able to compete with
- 41:42Speaker 2: each other and both succeed.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Can you name any La?
- 41:48Speaker 2: Los Angeles, New York I think is another one, But
- 41:51Speaker 2: those are big cities.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Oklahoma.
- 41:58Speaker 2: How far is how far is University of Oklahoma or
- 42:01Speaker 2: Oklahoma State outside of Oklahoma City? I don't know. I
- 42:05Speaker 2: don't think it's that far. I think Oklahoma's just right
- 42:07Speaker 2: outside Oklahoma City.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Maybe it might be, it might be.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it's I think you're right, though,
- 42:17Speaker 2: what's another franchise out there? Because Boston, But that's those
- 42:21Speaker 2: are major major cities out there.
- 42:24Speaker 3: There's a good one.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Arizona, that's a good one, Ohio, guys said Memphis, that's
- 42:30Speaker 2: another really good one. But to me, I compete. I
- 42:33Speaker 2: would compare Memphis Nashville. Yes, and Vanderbilt's doing really well.
- 42:41Speaker 2: So in fact, you've got multiple colleges down you got
- 42:45Speaker 2: Belmont down there, David Lipscombe, Vanderbilt, they're all succeeding.
- 42:50Speaker 3: But there's not an NBA team franchise state of Florida.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, anything Florida anything. But but yeah, you're right
- 43:00Speaker 1: about that. So uh anyway, but you're you're right, Ohio guy.
- 43:04Speaker 1: It was Tom Jerk and Rick Patino that put the
- 43:06Speaker 1: botch on any kind of major league sport NBA coming
- 43:10Speaker 1: to Louisville, and it was it was really disappointed that
- 43:13Speaker 1: that happened.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Uh, Michael, are you underwater? You sound like you are,
- 43:17Speaker 2: uh scuba diving right now? Get it fixed, all right,
- 43:21Speaker 2: I'll try and fix it during the first and second hour.
- 43:24Speaker 3: So, uh, do I sound that bad?
- 43:27Speaker 1: I'm using my headphones are broken, like I just like
- 43:31Speaker 1: I can't tell, like for me in the one ear that.
- 43:35Speaker 3: Half works you sound okay? Oh really okay? I cannot
- 43:39Speaker 3: tell what it sounds like over there.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Yeah all right then all right, well we'll figure it
- 43:43Speaker 2: out during the break, Michael. Unfortunately, the Kings didn't really
- 43:47Speaker 2: do what was intended. A lot of people didn't know
- 43:49Speaker 2: the team existed. It's kind of like an arena league outside. Sorry,
- 43:53Speaker 2: it just didn't hit. How would you respond to that?
- 43:57Speaker 3: The text loon.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Plus thousand people that shut up at the games are
- 44:02Speaker 1: not gonna agree with you.
- 44:03Speaker 3: It just didn't hit.
- 44:04Speaker 1: It was fun, But we can have fun in sports.
- 44:06Speaker 1: It doesn't have to always be super serious.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right, but again, eleven thousand compared to.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Major league sports that fourteen. Yeah, the physically couldn't put
- 44:20Speaker 1: more people. It's like that's more than like eighty percent capacity.
- 44:23Speaker 1: So it's still really impressive.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Uh, here's a good one, Ohio guy said, Philadelphia with
- 44:30Speaker 2: Villanova in the seventy six eries. That's a really good one.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Saint John's and the Knick share. I forgot about that,
- 44:35Speaker 2: Thank you, Ohio guy. Saint John's shares Madison Square Garden
- 44:39Speaker 2: with the Knicks.
- 44:41Speaker 3: That's another good one. They but but but.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Those are major league cities. I mean Louisville's is Louisville
- 44:48Speaker 2: is not the size. I think the best one that
- 44:50Speaker 2: you said, Ohio guy, which is very comparable and ian
- 44:54Speaker 2: you said it too. H Memphis is one, and I
- 44:57Speaker 2: think Oklahoma City is the other one that's compare ble
- 45:00Speaker 2: to Loisill that have colleges that succeed and professional teams
- 45:04Speaker 2: that succeed in.
- 45:05Speaker 4: That is a big one. Indiana, we got it Indiana
- 45:09Speaker 4: for a minute.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Yeah you got I you not too terribly what forty
- 45:13Speaker 2: five minutes away from Indianapolis, So you got that.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Plus you got Uey Poui up there.
- 45:18Speaker 1: If Kansas, the state of Kansas with nothing in it
- 45:22Speaker 1: besides one city can have successful like Kansas and Missouri
- 45:25Speaker 1: can have successful colleges and professional sports teams, so can
- 45:29Speaker 1: the state of conduct.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I agree. I agree with that.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Uh, I'm gonna save this one. But Michael, I heard
- 45:40Speaker 2: you co hosting on Sunday Morning. You did a great job.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Wish you were on there every week. I appreciate that.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I want to talk about that second hour because uh,
- 45:49Speaker 2: Anthony White so I was invited yesterday. Well, I'll talk
- 45:52Speaker 2: about second hour. I know we got to take a break,
- 45:54Speaker 2: but uh uh, but we'll we'll talk about that second
- 45:57Speaker 2: because Big Blue Bow asked me a question on a
- 46:01Speaker 2: show that I co hosted yesterday. Anthony White, former running
- 46:05Speaker 2: back for UIs Kentucky football, had me over in Lexington
- 46:08Speaker 2: and a lot of fun. I love Anthony and Big
- 46:11Speaker 2: Bo Blue, So we'll talk about that next. Of course,
- 46:14Speaker 2: we got our segment, which I'm really I'm hyping this up, Matthew, okay,
- 46:18Speaker 2: because I thought you did a phenomenal job on Friday
- 46:21Speaker 2: with the soccer and how the team was gonna do
- 46:25Speaker 2: and some of the other teams. And we got our
- 46:27Speaker 2: recap today and it's a good recap or a positive
- 46:30Speaker 2: recap because they won.
- 46:31Speaker 3: But I know I'm hyping it up, maybe a.
- 46:34Speaker 2: Little over because that makes you a little nervous, But
- 46:37Speaker 2: don't be you did a great job Friday.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Job today.
- 46:40Speaker 1: There's enough to win on that game. I can talk
- 46:42Speaker 1: about this for like five hours perfect.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I can't wait to talk about it. So we're gonna
- 46:46Speaker 2: take a break right now. We got our am I earlier?
- 46:49Speaker 3: Am I on time? You're on time? Pretty good? Okay? Good?
- 46:52Speaker 3: All right, we got to take a break. Right now.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Our two Just the Cats coming up with Matthew, Me
- 46:57Speaker 2: and Ian. Stay right there, we eat a minute.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. All right,
- 47:22Speaker 3: hour number two.
- 47:23Speaker 2: If you want to join us, you can call in
- 47:24Speaker 2: five O two three and four fourteen fifty, or if
- 47:26Speaker 2: you want to text in on the Whiskey Thief text line,
- 47:28Speaker 2: you can do that five O two four one four
- 47:31Speaker 2: fourteen fifty or just tweet me at just the Cap Radio.
- 47:36Speaker 3: So we got Matthew Children's with me as well as Ian.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Uh So, uh Ian, you said you watched a little
- 47:44Speaker 2: bit of the soccer, correct.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Just a little, just a little, not much.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I didn't watch any and uh so, I know that's
- 47:53Speaker 2: amazing to you, Matthew, But uh I just I had
- 47:57Speaker 2: a lot going on this weekend. It's not don't you.
- 48:00Speaker 2: You dare accuse me of not loving my country. Of
- 48:02Speaker 2: course I love, but I just don't love that country.
- 48:05Speaker 2: And uh let me rephrase, I don't love the sport
- 48:09Speaker 2: that the country was playing this weekend. So but anyway,
- 48:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna hand it over to you. You tell me,
- 48:15Speaker 2: because I know everybody was excited that they won Friday night.
- 48:20Speaker 2: But give us what the highlights are and uh, were
- 48:24Speaker 2: there any low lights in this game?
- 48:27Speaker 1: The thing about this game, I mean it was almost
- 48:30Speaker 1: all highlights. It's a miracle that somehow, you guys didn't
- 48:34Speaker 1: watch the soccer game, considering sixteen million people tuned in
- 48:38Speaker 1: for it, did they.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Really or the entire game or just for a little bit.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I mean the entire game as well. I'm really bled.
- 48:47Speaker 1: It's the most watched US game ever. It's the second
- 48:50Speaker 1: most watched World Cup game ever in the history of
- 48:53Speaker 1: the sport. And it was a group stage game for
- 48:56Speaker 1: the United States. It wasn't a World Cup final, it
- 48:58Speaker 1: wasn't a knockout stage. It was just a random group
- 49:00Speaker 1: sage game. It was I have followed this team since
- 49:05Speaker 1: I was like ten or eleven years old, back in
- 49:08Speaker 1: like the prime days of like Landon Donovan and Clinton Dempsey.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I had never once in my life seen what they
- 49:14Speaker 1: did on Friday that that was an absolute spectacle of soccer.
- 49:17Speaker 3: I mean it was.
- 49:18Speaker 1: It was so fun to watch that there were like
- 49:21Speaker 1: all the English people and all the European people on
- 49:23Speaker 1: Twitter on social media were like, oh my gosh, we
- 49:25Speaker 1: might have to start calling it soccer.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Like that was a joke.
- 49:27Speaker 1: It was being better out. We might have to start
- 49:29Speaker 1: calling it a soccer. If they're this good, we might
- 49:31Speaker 1: start calling it soccer.
- 49:33Speaker 3: That's a great joke.
- 49:35Speaker 1: It was so much fun. Like the United States, throughout
- 49:38Speaker 1: the entire history that I've been alive, has always been
- 49:40Speaker 1: super defensive. They've understood that the countries are better than them.
- 49:43Speaker 1: They kind of run their place. They think, if we
- 49:46Speaker 1: keep it a low scoring game, we could fight back.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Maybe we get a lucky one and we can scoot
- 49:50Speaker 1: in there. They signed Russio Pachettino over the last summer.
- 49:55Speaker 1: This dude's a super attacking, offensive minded head coaches, offensive
- 49:58Speaker 1: minded manager. And and you know, it's almost crazy that
- 50:01Speaker 1: you know the United States, their biggest plus, I guess
- 50:05Speaker 1: their biggest advantage is their midfield is fantastic. Their midfield
- 50:08Speaker 1: is all from across Europe. They they're attacking size, all
- 50:11Speaker 1: from across Europe. So you think, wow, this incredible talent
- 50:15Speaker 1: you have at the offensive side of the ball. Let's
- 50:17Speaker 1: pair of them with an offensive minded head coach and
- 50:19Speaker 1: see what they can do. And Friday night showed you
- 50:21Speaker 1: exactly what they can do.
- 50:22Speaker 2: I mean they wait, wait, are you telling me these
- 50:25Speaker 2: players are from Europe.
- 50:26Speaker 3: No, they're from America.
- 50:27Speaker 1: They play in Europe right now, like they play like
- 50:29Speaker 1: the Light League in Europe.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Yes, it might be a little legal. No. No, they're
- 50:34Speaker 3: from United States. They play in Europe.
- 50:36Speaker 1: They The thing about this game was Paraguay is not
- 50:40Speaker 1: a pushover team. Like I told you, Michael when we
- 50:42Speaker 1: were talking about it on Thursday that you know, I
- 50:45Speaker 1: was a little nervous about the game. It was one
- 50:47Speaker 1: where they hadn't played well over the summer, and Paraguay
- 50:51Speaker 1: is super physical.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Their name.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Thing is like they're one of the better defensive teams
- 50:54Speaker 1: in the world. They're fortieth in the world overall. But
- 50:58Speaker 1: this team, on their way to the World Cup, in
- 51:00Speaker 1: their qualifying runs, beat Argentina and Brazil, so they'd be
- 51:04Speaker 1: the better teams on the planet.
- 51:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:06Speaker 1: And the United States just put the fricking palls on them.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I mean absolutely took these kids behind the woodshed and
- 51:12Speaker 1: made them look like children, and it was such it
- 51:14Speaker 1: was so much fun to watch. I I mean, I guess,
- 51:19Speaker 1: sit here and go name by name, like Malik, tell
- 51:21Speaker 1: me to look fa Christian Policic, look, go ahead, Christian
- 51:25Speaker 1: Polistic actually looked like prime Messy out there. This did
- 51:30Speaker 1: look like Rinaldo on the left side on the left wing.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I mean he was whoever the right back was. I
- 51:34Speaker 1: didn't even felt the need to look up. His name
- 51:36Speaker 1: was put in hell by the Christian Polisic. This man
- 51:39Speaker 1: guy's angles broken seven or eight times.
- 51:41Speaker 3: The ball.
- 51:42Speaker 1: The ball was literally in their box for seventy five
- 51:44Speaker 1: percent of the game. They had seventy one percent possession percentage,
- 51:48Speaker 1: which means they had the ball for seventy one percent
- 51:50Speaker 1: of the ninety minute game. I think that was a
- 51:52Speaker 1: I think that was a World Cup record. I that
- 51:55Speaker 1: could be wrong.
- 51:56Speaker 3: I need to look that up.
- 51:57Speaker 1: I heard somebody say it, but that was on social media,
- 51:58Speaker 1: so it could be completely fall but okay, yeah it was.
- 52:02Speaker 1: It was one where if you didn't like the sport,
- 52:06Speaker 1: if you were just tuning in because you know what,
- 52:08Speaker 1: you're patriotic, you know your team is playing for something
- 52:11Speaker 1: really big and you're watching your country, just like when
- 52:13Speaker 1: everybody tuned in for the hockey Olympic gold medal game.
- 52:15Speaker 1: You know, like a lot of people don't follow hockey,
- 52:17Speaker 1: but they were raw ra USA. They want us to
- 52:19Speaker 1: be Canada. If you tuned in for this game, I
- 52:23Speaker 1: genuinely believe the if there were five percent soccer fans
- 52:26Speaker 1: that jumped up to ten with how much fun this
- 52:28Speaker 1: game was to watch.
- 52:30Speaker 3: I mean, I drove.
- 52:31Speaker 1: I went bar to bar that night and it was
- 52:34Speaker 1: packed to the house with people in USA soccer jerseys.
- 52:37Speaker 1: They were selling T shirts, they were selling hats. I
- 52:40Speaker 1: remember this is what I remember from twenty twenty two
- 52:42Speaker 1: and they had the World Cup. It was a little
- 52:44Speaker 1: bit less. It was just so cool to see like us,
- 52:49Speaker 1: like your country, finally jump on a sport that you've
- 52:52Speaker 1: been following your whole life that's not very popular around here.
- 52:55Speaker 1: And even if they're not like fully invested, like I said,
- 52:58Speaker 1: they're just because it's just because it's the US, it
- 53:00Speaker 1: doesn't matter to me. It was so much fun to watch.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Everybody was like joining in. There was a USA chance
- 53:05Speaker 1: going to the bar at midnight on Friday night. It
- 53:09Speaker 1: was such a fun game. I'm so excited to watch
- 53:12Speaker 1: them play Australia on Friday.
- 53:15Speaker 2: You've gotten me so excited that I might even consider
- 53:19Speaker 2: watching a highlight. I mean, I I you just to
- 53:22Speaker 2: hear your enthusiasm talking about this sport. It is contagious.
- 53:26Speaker 2: I will say that, but let me ask you this,
- 53:29Speaker 2: Do you think this team is really that talented or
- 53:32Speaker 2: were they playing above their head because of them playing
- 53:36Speaker 2: in a huge stadium filled probably with ninety fans on
- 53:43Speaker 2: their side and so they're playing over ahead because of
- 53:48Speaker 2: that charge.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Do you what do you think about this team? So,
- 53:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna say it's actually both. I'm gonna say they
- 53:54Speaker 1: definitely exceeded everyone's expectations. This isn't like some brand new
- 53:58Speaker 1: team they put together. These guys have been playing together
- 54:00Speaker 1: for six eight years. There's a couple players that are newer,
- 54:03Speaker 1: like like Freeman on the back line. He played really
- 54:06Speaker 1: he's only twenty one years old. This is his first
- 54:07Speaker 1: ever World Cup. The dude's literally a child playing out
- 54:10Speaker 1: there basically. And Flora and Baaligan we got him like
- 54:14Speaker 1: the last two years. He was actually gonna go play
- 54:16Speaker 1: for England, and the United States swayed him over because
- 54:19Speaker 1: he has United States and English like parents, so like
- 54:23Speaker 1: he could have played for both legally, they swayed him over.
- 54:26Speaker 1: He came to the United States. They sold him under
- 54:28Speaker 1: the idea of or bringing Pochettino, bringing an offense, and
- 54:31Speaker 1: then he scores two goals in the opening games, his
- 54:34Speaker 1: first ever World Cup he's played in.
- 54:35Speaker 3: They were incredible goals.
- 54:37Speaker 1: He loves it. He loves the United States. It's one where,
- 54:40Speaker 1: like I said, we've seen this team play, but like
- 54:42Speaker 1: I said, they've only had defensive minded head coaches ever.
- 54:46Speaker 1: So it's like, gosh, this team looks like they suck.
- 54:48Speaker 1: They look frustrated. Look, they don't know how to play together.
- 54:51Speaker 1: And then this summer they went out and got a
- 54:53Speaker 1: guy who is offensive minded. Yeah, you might give up
- 54:55Speaker 1: a few more goals. That was the low light in
- 54:58Speaker 1: this game. He gave up a goal to Paraguay that
- 54:59Speaker 1: was kind of slow, But the end of the day,
- 55:02Speaker 1: the dudes were firing in all cylinders. I yes, the
- 55:06Speaker 1: crowd was definitely involved. And you know, playing on your
- 55:08Speaker 1: home soil that just gives you a boost. I said
- 55:11Speaker 1: it on your show last week that historically in the
- 55:14Speaker 1: World Cup, the host nation usually overperforms and they usually
- 55:17Speaker 1: do a little bit better than they normally would. So, yeah,
- 55:20Speaker 1: I think it's about both. I think the guys are
- 55:22Speaker 1: clicking off at the right time. I think the crowd
- 55:24Speaker 1: is getting behind them. I think the new manager switch
- 55:26Speaker 1: has changed this team up entirely. Do I think that
- 55:30Speaker 1: that team plays that well every single game.
- 55:32Speaker 3: No, I don't think so.
- 55:33Speaker 1: I think that was like a really good spectacle. I
- 55:37Speaker 1: think it was a perfect start. It was a momentum
- 55:39Speaker 1: start for this team if you wanted to get people involved.
- 55:42Speaker 1: And I look, I've made fun of the US Soccer
- 55:44Speaker 1: Federation a lot in my life because it's just a
- 55:46Speaker 1: brand of idiots who don't know what they're doing. They
- 55:49Speaker 1: don't understand the sport that they're trying to root for.
- 55:52Speaker 1: They did a fantastic job of marketing this, Like I mean,
- 55:56Speaker 1: one is the World Cup. It doesn't need a lot
- 55:58Speaker 1: of marketing anyway, but if any if for you y'all
- 56:02Speaker 1: who don't know the United States has such a bad
- 56:05Speaker 1: rap when it comes to soccer, that there were genuine
- 56:08Speaker 1: European people coming over here and surprised that there were
- 56:11Speaker 1: nice soccer states. There were nice stadiums in the United States.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Like there is a there is a basic like stereotype
- 56:19Speaker 1: that America doesn't know how to handle their stadium there's
- 56:21Speaker 1: no culture in America because they're not old enough of
- 56:23Speaker 1: a country.
- 56:24Speaker 3: This and that and that.
- 56:25Speaker 1: There has just been I don't know, if you keptop
- 56:27Speaker 1: with there's a dude named Freddie. I don't don't remember
- 56:29Speaker 1: what his Twitter handle is, but he's been on Twitter
- 56:32Speaker 1: and he is a German guy. He's come over the
- 56:34Speaker 1: United States and he's been traveling the whole country watching
- 56:37Speaker 1: every match, you know, spending a lot of money seeing
- 56:40Speaker 1: the United States. He has basically been the United States
- 56:42Speaker 1: PR team with about for the past week.
- 56:44Speaker 3: Where he's he.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Is posting on social media everywhere he goes, all the cities,
- 56:49Speaker 1: all the places he eats, and he's like, I love America.
- 56:52Speaker 1: This place is fantastic. He's like driving through Kansas, like
- 56:55Speaker 1: this is the best place I've ever been. I love it. Yes,
- 57:00Speaker 1: like there was another place. There was another person who
- 57:03Speaker 1: was in Indiana and she was like, I've been to
- 57:05Speaker 1: seven or eight states. My favorite state is Indiana. Right now,
- 57:08Speaker 1: this is where I imagine this is. This is the
- 57:10Speaker 1: heart of It's hilarious. These people love it. And the
- 57:15Speaker 1: contrast is that the English people that come over here
- 57:18Speaker 1: hate like these people hate the United States. So they've
- 57:20Speaker 1: been spreading this propaganda that the United States is gonna
- 57:23Speaker 1: fumble the World Cup. It's gonna be terrible, there's gonna
- 57:25Speaker 1: be no marketing. So it's just English people talking about
- 57:28Speaker 1: how it's too hot, it's a horrible host city, it's
- 57:31Speaker 1: all this stuff, and then every other country is like,
- 57:34Speaker 1: I love America, Rah rah Usa.
- 57:37Speaker 3: I understand. I move here, and it's like, God, I understand.
- 57:43Speaker 1: It's just been such a fun dynamic to watch all
- 57:46Speaker 1: these cultures come together in the United States for some
- 57:49Speaker 1: people that like have a lot of these people have
- 57:51Speaker 1: never traveled the United States because there's like the United
- 57:54Speaker 1: States gets a bad rap because of government, because of
- 57:56Speaker 1: you know, our government is basically the world's government. You know,
- 57:59Speaker 1: because of how powerful the United States is, and because
- 58:02Speaker 1: of social media and you know, you know, violence issues,
- 58:05Speaker 1: all that stuff gets a bad rap.
- 58:07Speaker 3: So people don't come over here.
- 58:08Speaker 1: And they came over the World Cup and people love it,
- 58:10Speaker 1: and it's been like I'm I wish this is one
- 58:12Speaker 1: of those moments where I love the city I live
- 58:16Speaker 1: in and I wouldn't never live in like a New
- 58:18Speaker 1: York or somewhere like that because it's too expensive, But
- 58:20Speaker 1: I wish I lived in one of those host cities
- 58:22Speaker 1: for this, for this month, just to be able to
- 58:25Speaker 1: experience all the people coming in like like for example,
- 58:28Speaker 1: like you Ian, you talked about you watch the Netherlands game.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Before the Netherlands game, they had like an hour pregame
- 58:33Speaker 1: for this because the Netherlands are one of like the
- 58:35Speaker 1: most followed fan bases on the planet. Like they've had
- 58:38Speaker 1: so much success in the World Cup. They have like
- 58:40Speaker 1: the Orange Armies what they call them. Yeah, these people
- 58:43Speaker 1: traveled all the way to the Netherlands and philled out
- 58:44Speaker 1: or an entire stadium by themselves. They had Jameis Winston
- 58:48Speaker 1: in the crowd with these guys like trash.
- 58:51Speaker 3: That sounds a good dream see that.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Yes, they loved him. It was so much fun. It's
- 58:56Speaker 1: been so cool seeing all these personalities come around that
- 58:59Speaker 1: like either you know, weren't big soccer people or try
- 59:02Speaker 1: and like explain why it's so important. It's been a
- 59:05Speaker 1: really cool learning experience. I'm having so much fun and
- 59:08Speaker 1: it's only been one week. It feels like it's already
- 59:09Speaker 1: been a month.
- 59:10Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 59:10Speaker 2: And let me tell you right now, you realize that
- 59:13Speaker 2: Matthew is taking that entire segment right there and has
- 59:16Speaker 2: let no one else talk. He has just dominated it
- 59:20Speaker 2: because of his excitement. It makes me want to watch
- 59:24Speaker 2: a soccer game now, It clearly does.
- 59:27Speaker 3: Does it make you want to what did you think.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Of his segment right there about the World Cup.
- 59:33Speaker 4: I felt the same way you did, Mike. I feel
- 59:36Speaker 4: like I would watch I'm gonna watch it. I'm gonna
- 59:37Speaker 4: watch a soccer game probably coming up. Maybe when is
- 59:40Speaker 4: the next USA game Friday night?
- 59:42Speaker 3: Friday Friday.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I watch the next USA game against Australia Friday night.
- 59:46Speaker 4: I'm gonna be ready to watch.
- 59:49Speaker 3: This week.
- 59:49Speaker 1: If you guys are not, you guys aren't mix soccer fans.
- 59:51Speaker 1: I understand that's probably fine. Go watch it with people,
- 59:54Speaker 1: don't watch it by yourself. Don't go somewhere with people.
- 59:58Speaker 1: You don't have to go like to crazy Ball or something,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: but go somewhere like like somebody can sit down and
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: watch the game, like like like Ian said he went
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: to Drakes or whatever. Like, go somewhere like that and
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: watch the United States play because there's gonna be so
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: many people there that are there to watch the game.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: It's infectious, like everybody buys in. It's so much fun. Yeah,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: that's different, but that's like, for instance, my son sent
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: me a video Friday night. Was it Friday night or
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Saturday night? When the Knicks finally won the championship and
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: he's at a bar in New York City. He goes,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: this place is burning down. It's just he goes, it
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: was so much fun being in New York City when
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: the Knicks won the NBA Championship that everybody was nothing
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: but Knicks. Now, I wonder what New York.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Was doing because they also had at the same time
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: the Knicks were playing, they had the also the game
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: out as met Life, so and the crazy part is
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: to get Met Life through from a subway, you got
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: to go through the sub Boy station that's right there
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: at Madison Square Garden. And they said the crowds were
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: just unbelievable, between soccer crowds and the NBA crowds, which
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: is this was just the funnest time ever that he's
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: had while he's been living in New York City. But
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: I listen, I'm excited for you, Matthew, because you you
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: are genuinely I don't know if I've genuinely seen you
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: this excited since we've known each other.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: I'd love this sport. It's it's so much fun. Like
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: I've played it all my life, I've watched it all
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: my life. So it's one where I mean, Michael, You're
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: not alone, like most of America thinks the same way
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: as like dude, like I don't really care for it.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: It's this and that.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: So it's me constantly my whole life trying to explain
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: to people why I like it, why like So it's
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: been it's just been fun to watch other people who
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: haven't really experienced the sport for themselves because we don't
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: have like we have the MLS, but the MS isn't
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: seriously followed, you know, like you gotta have Apple TV
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: to watch it, and people don't want to pay for that.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: So it's been fun to have all these major games
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: on our major networks right now and seeing these people
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: experience professional soccer and it's most excitement for the first time.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Like for example, like we had the World Cup, like
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I said, in twenty twenty two, and but it wasn't
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: we weren't the host, so it wasn't as big of
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: a deal. Four Street Live is having like out outdoor
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: viewing for every US game without the entire tournament.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: You can just show up.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: They're having like hundreds and hundreds of people there to
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: watch it, and they're having they're selling drinks or selling
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: food like it's outside, like they're like, and that's not
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the only place they're doing stuff at the waterfront. Every
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: bar is showing it. Like I said, like sixteen million
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: people watch this first game with a tournament. It's just
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: been like I just like you said, I am really excited.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I love that it's it's been so much fun. But
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: where does that rank with like the Super Bowl?
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: The first game? Not even close? I mean I love
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: the Super Bowl.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: If they were to make like a semi final like
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: there would I mean it would, it would top the
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: supers It would be up there, up there. Oh you
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: think it would top the Super Bowl? I think it
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: would top the Super Bowl.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Yeah, because they showed I know a number of celebrities,
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: professional athletes that were all attending these games and didn't
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: know much about soccer, but they're there attending them and
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: really getting into it.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: So congratulations on this. I mean, I'm not kidding.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: I said this Friday when you did your first segment
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: of the World Cup, I enjoyed it so much. I
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: couldn't wait till today, And you're killing it on the
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: World Cup segment. I just I look forward to Thursday
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: now because you know you're gonna be all Friday but
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: you're gonna give your segment on Thursday and before the
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: game happens on Friday afternoon, so I can't wait for
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: that one. So because they Ian said they play Australia,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: is that right by Australia at three o'clock we're taking
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: down there? Is that supposed to be a good game
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: or is Australia very good?
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Australia is okay, we've beaten them recently. They did have
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: a really surprising win against Turkey A this weekend, so
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: they're playing above what people expected on place. Gonna be
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: a good game against who Turkey? A. Yeah, so it's Turkey,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: but that's how they pronounce their country. Now that changed
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: the pronunciation of its Turkey. Come on, it'll be Turkey
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: for It's gonna be Turkey forever. I don't I don't
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: know the governmental reason of why they did that.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: It's Turkey A. Yeah, all right, we got to take
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: another break. When we come back.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: I do want to talk about a name that has
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: emerged as a possible athletic director at the University Kentucky.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: We'll talk about that for a minute. Uh, and then
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: me and I just want to talk about soccer. The
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: rest of the game. That's all I want to talk
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: about now soccer, No, not really, but we'll talk about
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: some NBA championship because you know, there's a special special
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: moment there for a special player I think in a
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: lot of big blue nation right there that won on
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: the uh in the NBA. And then now what has
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: eli Elon Musk achieved. It's amazing, So we'll talk about
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: that as well.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: Stay right there. A lot more just the cats coming
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: right up. He chucked in midnight check smell a line
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: and ship the few a smell that can shove a knighte.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: It goes on two fourteen fifty. Do you want to
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: uh text us on the whiskey deep text line? And
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: I'll get to that right now. Uh, what do you
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: think of Ohio? Guys said?
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: What do you think about the What do you think
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: of the big Dog saying the Louisville is waiting for
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: one more piece in Ohio for his recruiting class.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw that, uh and he listen.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I love Vince Merrill and that's never going to change.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: But I don't know if you saw this or not, Matthew,
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: but he misspelled peace and I'm sure it was probably
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: spell check or something like that.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Instead of saying one more p I E or yeah,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: p I E c E, he said p E A
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: c E. Are we surprised of this yet? Like eight thousand.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: A lot.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: It is to a point where I think he does
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: do it on purposing exactly right, because you know, you
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: get on chat, GPT or whatever AI you want to
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: use and have them write your text messages or your
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: tweets or anything like that.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: But it did.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: It does make me laugh when he does something like that,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: and of course he's just a good portion of the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: fans out there. UK fans are obliterating him for it.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: But uh, yeah, I thank you, HOLLI. I didn't see that,
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: so it'll be interesting to see what PC's going to
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: get p I E C E.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: But uh, I love when Vince Merril attacks or gets
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: attacked and everybody goes after him and he goes right back.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: It doesn't bother him at all. He just loves that confrontation.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: He loves arguing with people. And anyway, I miss him
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: being a part of the UK, but I'm happy he's
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: happy where he is right now. One person texted out
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Richards was eighty three and eighty three and completed passes
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: that game, most passes completed since nineteen sixty four, I believe.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Yeah, don't even get me started on Chris Richards. That
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: dude is a demon like that man. Actually, I said
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: it on your show last week. If there's a person
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: you haven't watched soccer and you want somebody to follow,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Chris Richards as somebody to follow, and that dude he
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: had an incredible game, like the whole team wasn't just ridiculous.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: Well what does that? I hate to tell you, I
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: don't know what that means. So what does he what
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: does he mean? On passes?
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: He passed the ball to somebody else eighty three times.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: That means not a single time was his past ever
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: intercepted sent out of bounds. He completed the past every
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: single time. That does not happen, by the way, So
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: that's pretty amazing. Then yeah, okay, well good for him. Uh.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: I do want to talk about this A couple of
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: things I want to talk about regarding you. K Number
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: one UK is reportedly targeting Michigan State Athletic director Jay Blatt.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: According to Yahoo's Ross Dellinger, he's forty four year old.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: If you hadn't read about him. Yet you need to
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: go read a little about him. It's pretty impressive resume
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: that he has. He's from Virginia, graduated from North Carolina,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: and started his career at William and mary which is
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: a phenomenal school in Williamsburg, Virginia James Madison Maryland in
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: East Carolina, before a deputy ad at Alabama. And that's
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: where it makes sense because if you remember, Mitch Barnhardt
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: had a person that worked directly for him named Greg Byrne,
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: who is now the athletic director at Alabama. So I'm
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: sure this is where the connection is coming from. And
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: then in twenty twenty two that took the job at
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Georgia Tech for three years and then took the job
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: with Michigan State for one year. He's been there one
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: year and my only concern is.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: A job hopping too much. Now I know.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I see why UK really would like to get this
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: h J.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: Batt because.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: According to a few people up at Michigan State, he
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: secured four hundred and one dollars to the school. And
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: so when you are a person that can raise money
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: to that extent in a short time period, kind of
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: want them on your team.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: And in this day and age of Nil Matthew.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: That's a that that potentially could be a huge get
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: when you raise that much money that quickly.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean at this stage in college sports, I mean,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: raising money is the aim of the game. So I
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: mean that it is exactly biggest thing is like, hey,
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: if you want to your your job as an AD
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: isn't just hiring coaches or you know, creating events for
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: the school anymore. It's can you go out there and
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: held of billionaires in your city that you need money
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: and convinced them. You have to sell the school all
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: over again. Like you're basically an advertiser at this point
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: as an AD. So I mean, and it's not just
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: an ad. I mean if you're a head coach, you
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: got more work to do. Now you have to get
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: the ad to help raise more money. You have to
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: explain to these players you're going to have this money.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: So yeah, if you can raise any amount of money
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: at all, that's a genuine grab for the for any university.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: NATO's highly recommends him, Nick Saban highly recommends him. Tom
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Izzo highly recommends him. That's a pretty good list of
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: names right there that's on your side. My only concern
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: is it's like, Okay, how upset would Michigan State be?
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Not that I care, but I mean he's there for
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: one year, and then my concern is does.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: He job hop too much?
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: I mean, he goes from Michigan State to Kentucky and
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: he's only at Michigan's So how long can we count
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: on being in Kentucky. I hope for a long time
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: because Mitch Barnard has been here for quite a long
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: time period. I know Kentucky is a great place to come,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: raise a family, have a job, and make really good money.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: I think Mitch Barnhardt has definitely proven that and it's
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: a great organization to work for.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: So I hope that's the case now.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: I yesterday, as I mentioned ear the first hour, I
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: was asked by former UK running back great Anthony White
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: to come join him on Sunday sports.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: AM show WVLK over in Lexington, and.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: His producer's a guy named Big Blue Bow or BO
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: big Blue I forget which is his name?
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: Is BO? I really like Bo?
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: And Bo asked me a question yesterday, Matthew, how do
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: I think the administration is doing at the University of
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Kentucky with all the changes that are happening, and I
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: want you to and I'm gonna let you both answer this.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Lee Ian, I want you to answer this as well.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: Here's how I answered this, and this was the last
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: question question. This is how we ended the show.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: But I said that the University of Kentucky is going
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: all about this the absolute backwards way, the wrong way.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: You You've got an athletic director that was wanting to retire,
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: you have a president of the university that is of
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: retirement age and will most likely retire within the next year.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: And then you've you've you've hired two coaches.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Of your biggest programs at a major.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: University, football and basketball.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: To me, we're going We've got a athletic director hiring
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: a football coach. I understand that he was on the
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: way out anyway, but uh, I'm not sure that should
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: have been done. Now you get an athletic director that's
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: being hired with a president of the university president that's
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: most likely going to be uh leaving two. If I'm
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: the board of trustees, I'm going to say, hold on,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: I would always want if I'm running a business, I
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: want to hire my own people. So now that you
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: have a university president that is hiring an athletic director
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: that hired an athletic director, and then the old athletic
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: director hired a football coach. It's like in a basketball coach,
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: it's like, wait a minute, let's do this the other
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: way around. It should be President Capaluto should retire, the
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: new president should be hiring the athletic director at UK,
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: who should be hiring the major sports athletic coaches. And
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: the way this is going about is so backwards. I
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: don't understand it. I don't know why we don't have
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: a new president now. And I'm not trying to discredit
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Eli Cappoluto, who's done an unbelievable job for many years
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: at UK, but it's it's kind of time to move on.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: We need fresh blood. I like who they're considering. J
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Bett seems like a good person. I don't know him personally,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: but if you got Nick Saban, if you got Natoates,
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: if you got Tom Mizzl though that's a pretty good
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: nameless that's recommending him. But I still feel like we
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: need to hire a president first, then an athletic director,
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: and then the coaches.
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: But am I right?
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: And I understand the coaches was a little bit of
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: a different deal. They came at a different time. But
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: I just feel like presidents should have stepped down and
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: let the new president hire his own athletic director. Am
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: I wrong to say something like that, Matthew.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: No, you're not at all. I mean it's it's completely backwards.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Like you said, Yeah, football coach, obviously you needed one
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: as quickly as possible as you put a roster together.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Basketball last year had, you know, very underwhelming seasons, so
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: you're expecting that, like, if things don't turn around this season,
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: you're gonna have to make another change at that spot.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: So's it's one where you already know that, like the
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: President's gonna have to be changed at some point, you
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: have to act director Mitch Barnhart's gonna have to come
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: out and be a change like he's being changed now.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: It seems like these things should have been put into
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: place earlier so that you could have the new guys,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: like you said, come in and make those decisions because
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: they are going to be the ones they work underneath
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: them throughout their tenure. So you shouldn't have the president
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Mitch Barnhardt hiring the coaches of the future and then
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: saying all right, guys, well I did my job. You
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: guys have fun from here on out and just hope
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: for the best, because then you know, it's a situation
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: where if the new guy comes in, you're in a
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: really tough spot because let's say this season comes out
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: and Mark Pope does just let's say it's it's it's
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: just the same or or hopefully not, but it's worse.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: You know, then you're saying, you're sitting here thinking, my
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: first season is afterect director, I have to fire somebody exactly,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: and you're everybody now the fans know, like, that's not
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: on you. You didn't make that higher, but you're the
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: one who now has to make the next higher. You
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: just started working here. You gotta make a whole, brand
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: new higher because you are setting this position. You gotta
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: fundraise all this money all over again. You have to
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: tend to a fan base that's been battered and upset,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: and they're they're they're angry, like you're coming into a
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: hostile environment and trying to sell that to a coach
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: at the same time when you weren't in that environment
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: last year.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: So like, imagine I just got hired at my position.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: This job I'm working is horrible, but I'm trying to
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: sell you to work here. Your first argument is, you've
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: only been here for a year. How could you tell
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: me what this job is? Like?
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: So like that's gonna be The problem is if you
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: have to get rid of guys like Mark Pope and
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: you're a new ad, you're like, Okay, the fan base
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: is volatile. Everybody's angry because of the bench Barnhardt stuff. Yes,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Will Stein's kind of uplifting everybody's spirits, but Mark Pope
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: has angered a lot of fans.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: You've only been here one season.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: What can you tell a top tier eschelon basketball head coach.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: I'm just using basketball a example, obviously, but a basketball
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: head coach, and what can he sell them? Besides we're
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: gonna have money to bring them to Kentucky. So it's
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: a it's a situation, Like you said, Michael, it should have
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: been done reversed. They should have had the president and
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: everything lined up first, and then them make the coaching.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: Unders and you're forgetting about the other big tier part
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: of it as well. And that's the JMI situation because
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: you're stuck with a contract that doesn't seem to be
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: uh really a great contract for both parties. It's a
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: great contract for one party. It's so one sided. I
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: think that's another issue and probably a good reason why they.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Haven't had many names come to.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: Light because of the fact that why do I want
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: to go to university it's got a contract like that.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: This is ridiculous, this is this might be the worst
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: contract I've ever seen in my life. And you're you're
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: wanting me to come in here, walk in here and
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: work with JMI on a contract that is only beneficial
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: towards them. I think that's another really concern as well.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Yeah, like I said, you're not you don't have a
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: lot of selling points, you know what I mean. No, No,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: if you're a new ad coming into Iverson Kentucky, you
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: are seriously banking on will Stein succeeding and Mark Pope
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: figuring it out. It's just one where the worst thing
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: you can have at any job is major turnover. That's
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: the worst you want to be able to say you're
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: your place of work. We've had the same employees for
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: so and so amount of years, because that means it's
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: a good working environment, people like each other, everything you
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: know they're paid. Well, all these great things, right, But
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: if you go into a job, if you're starting a
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: new job, if it's in marketing or if it's in say,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: if it's in retail, whatever, and you walk in and
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: you find out that they're hiring somebody new every single week,
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: that should be telling you, oh, this is not a
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: great place to be. This is the something is going on.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I don't know yet. So it's one of those where
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: if you're getting a new ad, if you're getting a
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: new president, you're getting a new basketball coach, you're getting
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: a new football coach, all at the same time. Like
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: you said, Michael, some of those things had to happen.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: It's it's out, it's out of somebody's power. It just
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: it's a bad look at some point when you're trying
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: to sell that university of in the future.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: Well, and here's the other crazy part too, Matthew, is
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: the fact that with coaches from the past, we celebrated
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: having huge recruits come here and guess what, we're ranked
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: in the top five, we're ranked not even outside the
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: top ten. Now we're celebrating a player that's transferring in here,
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: and we're all celebrating that, Oh, great, fantastic, we're now
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: ranked eighteenth preseason. I mean, that's how far UK basketball
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: has fallen under Mark Pope. And I'll say it again
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: for the umpteenth time. I want Mark Pope to succeed,
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: but to celebrate one player coming into Kentucky and then oh,
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: we're so relieved, thank you so much, We're so excited. Yeah,
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: we're ranked eighteenth in the country. That's just how far
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: I think Kentucky basketball has fallen. And it's really disappointing
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: to see this. Now, let me ask you this, Ian,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: listening to our conversation right there, I want the point
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: of view of on one of a gen z or
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: that that understands it in a completely different light. Are
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: are Matthew and I completely far off base? Are you
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: to the point where, yeah, man, I don't care. I
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: don't see the advantage of an affletic director coming in
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: here or any of that.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: You tell me what you think, Ian, well, knowing UK,
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: I don't think it's gonna make much of a difference.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: The programs are still to both be bad, so uh,
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: I think it's not gonna be much of a difference
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: By the end of it.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: Both both.
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: I think Mark Pope still will get fired no matter
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: which the eighties in there. And but yeah, he would
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: definitely get put in an off situation, have new find
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: a new head coach, probably off the off the battle
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: in his first year.
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: It's gonna be pretty bad as the new ad.
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: When he comes in. Then football, I think football. I
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: think football, but have like at least a few years.
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: I think will Stein will do good for a little bit.
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: So I don't think you'll have that problem with football.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: But basketball, it's gonna be his biggest issue, and it's
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: gonna be his biggest biggest challenge for him as a
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: new ad.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: To do it.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: Matthew, I'm almost to the point that when the new
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: athletic director comes in, it might buy because I think
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: you were kind of pushing that point just a little bit.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: It might buy Mark Pope another year. Do you think so?
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Yeah, because I don't think the first thing you want
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: to do is athletic director is fire somebody like I know.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: It's just it's a bad look. It's a stain when
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: you're an athletic director. Your number one thing, your number
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: one resume builder. If you were to go get a
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: better job of president, somewhere you get AD Somewhere else
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: is what's your best hire, Who's what's the career record
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: of this sport under you? If you have two or
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: three guys in your seven year tenure you've had to fire,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: they're gonna say, okay, well that's on you. You hired those guys,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: like what are you what's your scouting look like? How
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: are you not figuring this out? So yeah, I think
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: that this benefits Mark Pope. Now, there is definitely a
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: situation where it goes poorly enough that the fans step
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: in and you just kind of force the hand of
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: a new athletic director. You're saying, I'm the new guy
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: on the block. These fans are extremely hostile. They're willing
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: to take out anybody that steps foot in front of
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: them and upsets them. I need to make this decision
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: to fire a guy like Mark Pope just so that
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: the fan base is a leaved because that's what they want,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: and maybe they like me a little bit more and
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: trust me to make a better decision. Yeah, that's the
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: only situation where like a firing could help the ad.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: But like I said, that's also saying, like I think
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: with a new ad, Mark Pope is actually probably gonna
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: be safe for another season barring it's just absolutely horrendous.
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: I don't think at all. I think, yeah, and what well.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: I've often said, you got to get out of the
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: first weekend at the very least for him to have
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: another season at Kentucky.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: It's it's frustrating that we are celebrating that now one
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: player makes us a top eighteen team in the country.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: It's like, this is this is not Kentucky basketball. So
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: all right, we gotta take our last break. If you
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: want to text in, I'll get your text as soon
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: as we get back. Five O two four one four
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: fourteen fifty stay right there. One more segment, just the
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Cats coming right out.
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: We's Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Channgle, lunch is old, older
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: than the trees, young, take it home to the place, Coyne.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: To West Virginia. All right. On our last segment on
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: this Monday.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: I want to get to a few of these text
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: messages before we take off for the day. One person said, uh, uh,
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: congratulations to the louisvill Kings for winning the United Bowl
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: United Football League.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: Championship on Saturday.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: Uh yeah, we talked about that a little earlier because
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: that's one of those things you've been heavily involved in
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: and I love that you have. You got your Kings
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: hat on today, Matthew. It looks good and that was
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: an exciting time for you. Are you gonna get to
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: do a recap of the season podcast show or anything
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: like that.
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: Uh?
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Yeah, this Thursday, we'll be doing like our final like
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Kings show, like three Man Front show for the year.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: We're gonna recap it. Might have some stuff in the works.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: Chris Redmond maybe on the show, which would be fun.
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: Okay, good.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: I've talked to our like UFL connection with them. They said, yeah,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: they let me know on Wednesday if he's able to so.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: But he is busy obviously doing all the stuff after winning,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: so there's it's not one hundred percent, but there's a
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: good chance that he'll be on with us, which is exciting.
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: Yeah, we're excited to do it. Good.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Uh My Vegas Golden Knights did not force a Game
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: seven and lost. Carolina won the Stanley Cup. I'm sorry
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: about that. Patrick, So yeah, you're you're you're But that
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: was a fun series.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: I will say that.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: One person said Ohio guys said, I think the reason
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: cal Perry shameless boasts about how many players he's produced
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: in the NBA is a deflection tactic to distract from
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: the fact of how much he's underachieved in college with
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: those same players.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: I would agree with that, and I always.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: Thought that when UK was pushing all the NBA stuff,
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: to me, it was embarrassing. It's nice to see all
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: that stuff, But to me, that just proves that, well,
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: we had all those players at UK, and some years
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: we lost the first weekend of the tournament. In some
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: years we didn't even make it to the Elite eight
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: or Final four. So I never thought it was a
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: good look for John cali Perry. Am I Am I
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: wrong to think that.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: Matthew No, I don't think you're wrong.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I mean we were talking about like what's good, what's
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: good for an AD, and I was bringing up, you're
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: an AD. The best thing you can have is great hires.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I mean for John cali Perry, if he's building a resume,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: his thing is, you know, I've won a national championship
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: and put this many players in the NBA.
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: So yeah, he hasn't with.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: The talent that he's had he's probably has technically underachieved,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: but he's gonna cover that up with a I put
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: in blah blah blah. So amount of players in the NBA.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: I've had this many five star recruits. I've had this
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: many blah blah blah's.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: You know. It's it's John Caliperry. It's what he does.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but when you do that, it's like, Okay, well
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: then why didn't you win more championships or have more
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: opportunities in the Final four. That's the That's the way
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: I look at that. It's like, great, but why didn't
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: you do better.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: I've been saying this for a long time. I think
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: that John cal Perry is you know, I think he's
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: a great fan. He's one of the He's probably the
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: greatest recruiter college basketball I's ever seen, And in all honesty,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: I don't think he's like a Hall of Fame level
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: like X's and O's head coach, which blew my mind
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: as to why Rick Patino just couldn't beat this guy.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: I just I just never understood it. I think a
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: lot of people now have revered Rick Patino is one
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: of the greatest coaches of all time when it comes
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: to x's and o's and you know, building building rosters
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: and stuff like that. It's one where like I did this,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I said it like I was like, I don't think
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: John Kyle Perry is a fantastic basketball head coach, but
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: he can't beat my favorite head coach, like or sorry,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: my favory head coach can't beat him.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: I don't get yeah, I don't. I don't get either
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: college basketball. I don't understand.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: One person said, geez, how many commercials can a station
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: run not by a person out of steal with the station?
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: Might be a record? Is that? Is that? The uh?
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Nick Roush? I guess he's talking about that.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: I think I know.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: We have one with Nick Grausch, we have one with Roman,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: we have one with Justin. Oh yeah, okay, then it
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: is pretty bad. I've been busy. Did Dormat run down?
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: Run done?
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: How Claudia Arena did on the pitch Friday Night?
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: What was the text or was.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: It I've been busy? Did doormat run down? How Claudio
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Rena did on the pitch Friday night?
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Geo, Well, that's that. Claudia Arena is Geo Arena's dad.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Claudia Orna used to play for the United States, Like
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: I forgot when like maybe eighties nineties. But uh, ge
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: Orana got on like the eightieth minute or something like this,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: and they were up three to one already and then
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: in it was seven minutes of at a time. In
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: the ninety seventh minute, this is the last possession of
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: the game. Right, You guys don't know what a travilla is,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: but it's where you like, it's when you take a
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: like angled shot with the outside of your foot and
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: it curls like the opposite directions, like away from you.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: This dude just like pulled it from the edge of
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: the box and just travilla this thing right in the goal.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: He didn't play the whole game, and it was one
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: whereas like this dude hasn't played it at all. The
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: entire summer. People were talking about how he's underwhelming, he's
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: not getting a lot of playing time for his club team.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: He's probably not gonna be too good, and people were
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: upset that he was on the he was on the
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: roster and he got put over Diego Luna and then
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: he did that and people were like, this guy's back,
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: Geo Ranna, this is prime g Rana, we're back. So yeah,
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: I was. That was excited to see if the dude
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: killed him.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: I do think this is funny and it's a joke. Okay.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: I am glad the Kings were able to rise above
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: all the no Kings protests to bring home the title.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: That's a great joke. I love that text. Hey, let's
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: talk to UK new ad football killing it. Vince trying
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: to save his ego in UK basketball in the court. Yeah.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: By the way, UK football gets another commit out of Cincinnati, Ohio,
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: And I know a lot of people are giving Vince
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: a hard time about that, but six foot five two
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: and thirty pounds edge player Jalen Mercer sided over the
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: weekend to commit to Kentucky. So yeah, you're right about that.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: We did talk about the athletic director, but Pope is
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: not getting fired.
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: He will smat Kelsey right in the mouth. This year.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: He makes an Elite eight and ends up with the
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: number one recruiting class for next year. Have a good day.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: I hope you're right, Texter. I mean, I hope that
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: is the case, and I'm rooting for him as well.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: So but yeah, that was that was That was a
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: lot of fun seeing UK get yet another over the weekend.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: Will Stein's just killing it and I'm really happy with
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: what he's got going on. So the next one. We
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: haven't gotten to talk about this. I do want to
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: talk about one thing, and this is why I really
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: like Karl Anthony Towns. He made it perfectly clear that
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: the reason a good portrait of the reason they won
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: and how much success he's had winning that championship is
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: because of his mom. And I love how he credits
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: his mom all the time, and man, because I feel
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: for him. I mean, I can certainly empathize how he feels.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: I credit my mom quite a bit, but I just
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: I love how Carl Anthony Towns does that. And y'all
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: are lucky your moms are still around. But I mean,
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: don't you kind of feel for him that he says
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: stuff like that.
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: I mean, I definitely do.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: Like I've lost a lethorough of family members of my life,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: and you know, they're an inspiration to me. They you
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: know that our family members direct our life and yeah,
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: help create decisions we make later on.
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm happy for Carl.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: Evident, Yeah I am too. So I'm happy they won.
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: I don't know about the handshake line. We might talk
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: about that tomorrow. The fact that Wimmy just ran straight
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: to the locker room and didn't say anything. They put
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: a highlight film of him, how many times that Uh
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: he wasn't too terribly nice on the basketball court. But uh, anyway,
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: all right, Uh, Ian, you did a very nice job today.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: I enjoy having you on here. I'm I'm Will you
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: be in next Monday? Of course, I'm always here. He'll
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: be good to be back again. I'll be there, all right,
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: So yeah, we'll be we'll be together for the first time.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: So h but I appreciate you coming on for a
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: few minutes today, and you're doing a great job, so
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: all right, Uh, I appreciate all the text. Matthew, you'll
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: be with here with me tomorrow as well. Uh you're
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: you're just off Friday, correct and uh yeah, and then hopefully,
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: uh we'll figure out a lot of other things that's
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: going on the station one of these days soon. But anyway,
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: I do want to talk about JB. Holmes as well,
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: because I think that's pretty cool.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: JB.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: Holmes earned his first spot since twenty nineteen. He's going
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: to be playing in the US Open up at chinnacok So.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: I think that's pretty cool too. We'll talk about that
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: some as well tomorrow. So all right, everybody, have a
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: great day. I appreciate you joining us, I appreciate all
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: the text, and we'll see you tomorrow on just the cats.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: Have a great day.
