- 2:56Eric: I did not watch it for the 17th Time.
- 2:58Sydney: That's okay, you don't need to cry again, don't worry.
- 3:03Eric: Or do as everyone does now with episode seven to stop it Two minutes To go and just Hit stop.
- 3:07Eric: Don't play that.
- 3:07Eric: No Final cliffhanger.
- 3:13Eric: Okay, all right.
- 3:14Eric: What are we going to talk about today?
- 3:18Eric: We are going to talk about Aurora Tea garden Something new.
- 3:24Sydney: Maybe this is the first story Tea garden you saw Or you actively wanted to see.
- 3:30Sydney: Right away I will say When the original series.
- 3:38Eric: I thought the first episode Was actually pretty good, and I was surprised By the second episode.
- 3:44Eric: I was like okay, this is trash And it just never got better.
- 3:48Eric: Well, hopefully you feel differently this This time around, but Yeah, we'll see, so I'll just give you a little.
- 3:57Sydney: Hallmark synopsis on the Movie So young, aurora tea garden Returns home to Lawrence After college to pursue her post grad degree And finds herself embroiled in a mystery involving her friends.
- 4:18Sydney: Sally's fiance, starring Skyler Samuels, evan Rodrick and Mary Lou.
- 4:26Eric: And that fiance was Madison Smith.
- 4:28Eric: We talked, yes.
- 4:32Sydney: Shout out And for this Lovely movie.
- 4:34Sydney: I know you have a cocktail, Eric.
- 4:37Eric: We do.
- 4:38Eric: We have the killer thesis, because, as you know I'm not sure if you're aware of that, but I think that Aurora was back working on that thesis I did watch the show with my daughter, who finished grad school about a year ago.
- 5:02Eric: And when she said like oh yeah, you're in your second year now And you got to start working your thesis.
- 5:07Eric: She's like what You're already working in And you're already working on that.
- 5:13Eric: I'm not having a thesis, but Either here or there.
- 5:16Eric: Okay.
- 5:16Eric: So the killer thesis.
- 5:19Eric: What is in it?
- 5:19Eric: You're going to take a cinnamon and sugar mix and rim the Glass.
- 5:25Eric: Yum, yum, yum.
- 5:26Eric: And then you're going to use an ounce and a half of spiced rum, announce a freshly squeezed lemon juice, three quarter of an ounce of orange curacao, and then you're going to add some orange and orange, some ice And an orange twist for garnish And, like everything I make, you put all that, all the ingredients, into a shaker, shake it all around And then pour it into a nice little martini glass.
- 5:53Eric: So Sounds like a very Aurora.
- 6:01Sydney: And Sally drink when they go out on girls night.
- 6:03Sydney: I mean, i think that goes with Aurora's hair.
- 6:06Sydney: It's very, yes, it does.
- 6:11Eric: Keeping with our hair?
- 6:11Eric: No, so, speaking of which, which is interesting, so I decided to bust into the first of the books Of the RRT guard mysteries, and in the book, aurora is short, she's like four foot 10 and a half, with brown hair And big round glasses.
- 6:31Eric: So I don't know where the red hair came from.
- 6:36Eric: Is that like?
- 6:37Eric: I don't know, but she's definitely a red haired person in the movies.
- 6:44Sydney: Yeah, maybe the you know that it's so.
- 6:48Sydney: you know it's written by Charlene Harris who did True Blood.
- 6:51Sydney: There's like a really prominent red haired character on that And I almost feel like maybe she comes in and consults and she's like you know what I like red hair.
- 7:01Eric: Let's switch it up, forget that book.
- 7:04Sydney: Yeah, get some red hair in there.
- 7:06Sydney: Maybe she doesn't.
- 7:07Sydney: I almost wonder if she has red hair, though I don't know.
- 7:11Sydney: I kind of thought she did like a little bit of a dark auburn or something, but maybe I'm wrong.
- 7:19Eric: You know when these books were written?
- 7:21Eric: by chance.
- 7:23Sydney: I don't.
- 7:25Eric: I'm gonna do a little Google search why we are just talking.
- 7:30Eric: So talk amongst yourself for a second.
- 7:33Sydney: Do, do, do, do, do, do do.
- 7:38Eric: All right publish 1990.
- 7:41Sydney: Okay, 1990.
- 7:43Eric: So the reason why I was wondering about when this book was printed is I was wondering if it was a little bit before some social consciousness.
- 7:53Eric: Because as I'm reading the book, there's one little line, two lines in there that Aurora is like turns on TV and she's like so happy because there's some news that's going on and she makes this comment They're talking about the election that's taking place there And she's like and this one, i was happy because this promised to be a unifying election, because there were no black candidates running to create divisiveness.
- 8:26Sydney: No, it doesn't say that.
- 8:28Eric: I'm paraphrasing it a little bit, but that's pretty much where it was unifying and divisive because of a black no black candidates, and I was like huh, definitely does not seem contemporary now.
- 8:44Sydney: Well, maybe that, maybe that's Aurora's character.
- 8:47Eric: And so that's what I'm wondering if there's like an inherent like I haven't obviously gotten.
- 8:51Eric: I haven't finished it, i haven't gotten through any of the other books.
- 8:54Eric: We have Brooke Peterson, who we follow each other on Instagram and she's very much into the mystery, so I've reached out because I'm sure she's read all these and I want to get a little more insight into the books and see, because they also it takes place in outside of Atlanta, so it's the South too.
- 9:16Eric: So I just found it very interesting because I don't think that line would be written in 2000, 2020, 2000s Let's just say 2000s.
- 9:26Eric: Well, unless she's trying to articulate the character is that way.
- 9:32Sydney: You know that's their personality.
- 9:35Eric: All right, so Aurora is a racist.
- 9:38Sydney: Well, we're glad that she is not Like I say there's nothing else.
- 9:46Eric: in fact it's very interesting because it's been really enjoyable in the book.
- 9:50Eric: What's interesting too is, unlike the other ones, that we read that the the murder she baked, the Hannah you know, the Hannah Swenson's, the curious caters where they really just take a little bit of the book and then make the whole mystery out of it.
- 10:08Eric: That doesn't really have anything to do with it.
- 10:10Eric: The Rory Teagarden really did follow the book, you know so far pretty pretty closely.
- 10:22Eric: So it's been interesting there.
- 10:25Eric: And the funny thing is that even though I've seen the Rory Teagarden's because she did a good job describing her, i don't like I don't have Candice or Skyler pop into my head.
- 10:39Eric: I have this little short brown haired, kind of mausie ish, looking Librarian, so kind of interesting.
- 10:48Eric: You think you'd immediately go to the one of the movie characters, but I haven't The power of the words and the power of the word.
- 10:57Eric: Are we ready to get talking about the movie and forget the books?
- 11:02Sydney: Yes, let's do it All right.
- 11:06Eric: So, rory Teagarden, something new.
- 11:09Eric: What is something that you liked about this?
- 11:15Sydney: You know I really enjoyed Skyler Samuels Adam as Aurora.
- 11:20Sydney: I think she definitely captured how enamored Aurora is with mysteries and like inserting herself in mysteries in like an unassuming way That I didn't find annoying, which I feel like sometimes in the older movies like she kind of inserted herself and it was a lot more annoying.
- 11:43Sydney: Now I don't know if they're supposed to get more annoying as it progresses in life because she keeps inserting herself, but it seemed very unassuming and I liked it.
- 11:53Sydney: I liked Evan Rodrick because he sounded just like Peter Benson.
- 12:01Sydney: If I closed my eyes I was hearing Peter Benson.
- 12:05Sydney: If I open them I was like he doesn't look like Arthur but he literally he must have like studied that because he had that general inflection going and I really appreciated that because it sounded really great.
- 12:24Eric: I'm using to say that because I've been on this one following a lot of social media.
- 12:30Eric: I've followed a couple of different Facebook groups Twitter, instagram, obviously Reddit And I've seen a couple of people make that comment that he just had the mannerisms, he had the voice down, just like you said, and so a lot of people have appreciated his effort in reflecting on the Peter Benson character.
- 12:55Sydney: Yeah, great job.
- 13:00Eric: So you're talking about how you like Skyler and it didn't annoy you.
- 13:03Eric: There's a lot of people, once again, as I followed social, who have had a big problem with just the entire casting.
- 13:09Eric: We've had some people who have been saying couldn't they just have used the whole cast and had Skyler?
- 13:16Eric: So I'm like I don't think having a 50 year old Sally coupled with a 19 year old Skyler like Lexa as much as we like her, which ironically in the book Sally really is late 40s.
- 13:32Eric: She's not Aurora's BFF, she is an older woman who her son went to high school with Aurora.
- 13:46Eric: She did do a little bit of switch there with the book, yeah, but did, did.
- 13:54Eric: So You said Skyler didn't annoy you having a new character there.
- 13:58Eric: How about the other?
- 14:00Eric: Did did you do okay with with Sally?
- 14:04Sydney: Kayla Heller.
- 14:05Sydney: I think she did a good updated version of Sally.
- 14:09Sydney: I think she did a good updated version of Sally.
- 14:15Sydney: I didn't think that the four So the former Sally kind of came off as super clueless, like to the point where sometimes we're like, okay, like you always heard Aurora going like Sally, you know, because she was a journalist, but she was always like You know, she was always like you know, like you know she's always been like a little bit of a fan of Sally came off as she still had that kind of like you know, heat him and ha, type of can't candidness.
- 14:52Sydney: But the way it came off for me was more like naive, like she's young, so it's passable And it makes sense.
- 14:59Sydney: And I think that's the way that she was, that version of Sally, because sometimes the older version of Sally was like it was just a little bit unbelievable that she had a job and she, you know, because she was How was she holding it down?
- 15:20Eric: Too funny.
- 15:20Eric: So, as you bring up an interesting point and I posted this on our Instagram is like you said, i'm not a fan of the time And all that.
- 15:31Eric: So I also very much enjoyed The Arthur.
- 15:38Eric: I thought Arthur was fantastic.
- 15:39Eric: Thank you.
- 15:41Eric: Unbelievably good, unbelievably great.
- 15:46Eric: You're totally erased all of the CCBs or RT garden from me And, as you know, my main thing is I and we've debated this before I just don't find Candace that great of an actress.
- 15:59Eric: I watched because I was like, okay, i watched, you know, something new.
- 16:06Eric: So I've got to watch something old And I don't know which one came on because they were airing them, you know, on the weekend.
- 16:13Eric: So I watched one of them about I don't know half of it And she just and it was one of the later ones.
- 16:21Eric: It was when Nalmatter, she first gets introduced.
- 16:28Sydney: Okay.
- 16:28Eric: And half the time she just feels like she's like reading.
- 16:32Eric: She doesn't sound like she's talking, she just comes across like reading.
- 16:36Eric: So that's like my main problem is with it.
- 16:39Eric: But, skylar, i thought was fantastic And, as you mentioned too, one of the things I have in my notes here.
- 16:45Eric: What I really liked about it is she didn't seem to be that medley like you say, put your nose in it.
- 16:54Eric: She, everything that happened like she would come across something And yes, she was being a little bit snoopy, but every step of the way she would then call you know, arthur, and say, hey, this is what I found her, you know, boom, i've got to do it.
- 17:08Eric: And so everything she was doing was involving.
- 17:11Eric: She was never, you know, and that's one of the annoying things.
- 17:14Eric: And you know, we can talk about a lot of the mysteries where they kind of I'm not going to tell the policeman, i'm going to just do this on my own.
- 17:23Eric: But, she really did it.
- 17:24Eric: And so, to your point, i found her character very believable.
- 17:28Eric: She was someone like hey, i kind of have somewhat of an interest in this, i kind of am smart and pretty good at deducing, but at the same time I'm not a cop.
- 17:39Eric: Arthur is, i'm going to, you know, involve them.
- 17:44Eric: I really liked that.
- 17:45Eric: And one of the thing I got from this was I got a lot of mystery 101.
- 17:50Eric: vibe Just had that feel where it was And I think it's because, like Amy, she's never trying to, you know, show up Travis, right, they're working sort of together And that's.
- 18:05Eric: And the other thing, the other reason why I kind of got that vibe was the killer wasn't necessarily a bad person.
- 18:17Eric: They were put in this position where they just felt they didn't have it.
- 18:21Eric: And that's kind of, you know, when we talked to John Christian Plummer, kind of how he likes to formulate his bad guys is, yeah, they did something bad, but they're not inherently bad.
- 18:32Eric: So I just and she wasn't Skylar also, you know there were like little lines in there that there was some, you know, humor, but it wasn't quirky, right, she wasn't silly, so to speak.
- 18:45Eric: And once again, that's just.
- 18:48Eric: I just got a lot of mystery 101 vibe And I think if you're a mystery 101 fan and you would accept hey, i made like another mystery, but some, you know some are not ready for it But I really think if you're a mystery 101 fan, you probably would enjoy this one.
- 19:06Eric: And then something else you didn't mention there was this guy in there.
- 19:10Eric: he was the deep right.
- 19:13Sydney: You know what?
- 19:13Sydney: I can't remember his name, though Thank you for this.
- 19:16Sydney: lead in Thank you.
- 19:17Sydney: So Steve.
- 19:19Sydney: Steve was.
- 19:20Sydney: was that the hottie, hard cop mentor, and I appreciated that angle.
- 19:26Sydney: I haven't seen him like that before And it was.
- 19:29Eric: it was great I agree, i was into it.
- 19:32Eric: He definitely had that role, like you.
- 19:36Eric: Just look at him.
- 19:36Eric: He looked like a grizzled detective, yeah.
- 19:39Eric: But he wasn't he wasn't like he wasn't an a-hole about it, right, but he definitely was a.
- 19:44Eric: I mean business and you know we're going, it's not a hey, i'm a silly, you know I'm a silly incompetent detective.
- 19:56Sydney: Yeah.
- 19:58Eric: I thought they did a great job with that.
- 19:59Eric: He listened to Arthur.
- 20:00Sydney: Yeah, he listened to Arthur And what that scene in the in the beginning, where where he's talking to him and he sits down at the desk and then he gets up and he's like clean your desk up And you thought it was his desk, but it's really Arthur.
- 20:15Sydney: He puts his feet up and everything.
- 20:17Sydney: I'm just like, oh my God.
- 20:19Sydney: But I do want to say like that that was interesting.
- 20:23Sydney: And on the flip side, i really enjoyed Aurora's mentor relationship with her professor, like I'd like to see more of that, if you know.
- 20:33Sydney: Hopefully we get more.
- 20:36Eric: I will say I also thought Aurora just she was super cute, like I thought she was the way and we'll talk about it later but like the way they dressed her, her hair, just her mannerisms, i just thought she came across just so likable, which was great.
- 20:56Eric: And plus she I can't say necessarily the side eye, but she was definitely good at giving the looks, because when Sally, you know, was going on and on like oh, he could never do bad, you know this, that and the other, she was like really And sort of giving the looks.
- 21:15Eric: Or sometimes when you know, when Matt did something, she gave the look.
- 21:21Eric: So she was pretty good at giving that quasi side eye too.
- 21:26Sydney: Yeah.
- 21:29Eric: But yeah, I'm speaking of Matt, our friend Madison.
- 21:34Eric: He still hasn't given us Steve Basick's cell phone for you yet, So you can like start texting him.
- 21:40Eric: We'll have to get on him and say what's going on.
- 21:43Eric: Sydney's back in the country.
- 21:45Eric: We need Steve's cell phone.
- 21:48Sydney: We need to talk about important things like like like what hair products does he use to get that look?
- 21:56Eric: I think it's like W 40 or whatever WD 40.
- 22:00Sydney: No, it's not.
- 22:03Eric: I think he just goes out to the car, unscrews the oil thing It's a little bit in the palm slicks it back in the hair.
- 22:12Sydney: Good looking.
- 22:14Eric: All right.
- 22:14Eric: So there's one other thing that I really liked in this movie.
- 22:18Eric: I reached out to our friends over there.
- 22:23Eric: The podcast is technically romance and Hamilton over there He really gets into the technical aspect of the movies and the lighting and cinematography Yeah, and all that sort of stuff, and this movie just really had a different feel than a lot of other mysteries, like the lighting on it They did a lot of and I don't know what it's called, but it's when basically, you come in with the key light, which is the main light on the one side, and the fill light that's supposed to get rid of the shadows on the other side.
- 22:57Eric: Either it was very muted or they didn't have it, so kind of left half the face, you know, shadowed, and creates a very dramatic look.
- 23:07Eric: And then just the cinematography and Skyler mentioned this, like with the cameras that they used And you know, and she said I was like okay, whatever, but it was really, i thought, noticeable That it just it had like sort of a soft feel throughout the entire movie.
- 23:25Eric: So I thought the cinematography and the lighting in this were just absolutely fantastic and not very hallmarky, which I think tends to overlight things, yeah.
- 23:40Sydney: But I agree, so it looked great.
- 23:44Eric: All right And moving on.
- 23:47Eric: Was there anything, maybe, that you didn't particularly like about something new?
- 23:52Eric: Was there something bad?
- 23:55Sydney: Oh no, okay, Yeah.
- 23:58Sydney: So I found that the character timeline was a tad confusing.
- 24:02Sydney: I kept trying to think about like how old Aurora would have been in school and if texting and blogging was a thing.
- 24:09Sydney: And then they mentioned like the Lacey Peterson case And I was like you know where what, and then also the wardrobe choices for the time.
- 24:18Sydney: But I stopped thinking about it because I just wasn't.
- 24:21Sydney: I ended up thinking like I don't think this is worth delving into because 2008.
- 24:26Sydney: Oh, you thought it said it.
- 24:28Eric: Yeah, they started out with that.
- 24:30Eric: And then also Skyler told me you know what you still?
- 24:34Eric: you had a little jet lag.
- 24:36Eric: You're forgiven, but it was 2008.
- 24:40Sydney: So I was like, okay, i'm gonna go with that, all right.
- 24:42Sydney: Well then I probably would have said, like some of those wardrobe choices were not 2008.
- 24:48Sydney: They're more modern, i think.
- 24:49Sydney: But like, either way, it looked good.
- 24:50Sydney: I wouldn't have wanted her in a chunky necklace and a big belt in the hobo bag.
- 24:58Sydney: So you know, 2008, that's the stuff that Erica Durant's was wearing during the wedding planner.
- 25:03Eric: You know the big shoes.
- 25:03Eric: I was talking to my wife about that.
- 25:07Eric: I figured what they're called like Aldo's or something like that shoes.
- 25:12Sydney: Aldo's yeah.
- 25:13Eric: She used to love these shoes.
- 25:14Eric: They were like, just like you said, chunky shoes, and I always hated them.
- 25:20Eric: I was so glad when she finally stopped buying those shoes.
- 25:26Sydney: Well, yeah, they went out of style, thank goodness And they didn't make a reappearance in this movie, so that's good.
- 25:34Eric: I don't know They um Sally did have, like Skyler talked about too.
- 25:41Eric: she but um Sally had those like wedge sneakers And then at the very beginning they weren't necessarily, i guess, clunky, but it was that like boot that Skyler was wearing at the beginning that I noticed.
- 25:55Sydney: I paid attention, mostly out of this.
- 25:58Eric: Oh yeah, She looked fantastic And I have got some of the outfits, but um, but I did pay attention to some of those things.
- 26:05Eric: I probably would normally go over my head only because both Madison and Skyler had pointed them out.
- 26:14Sydney: Yeah, i just it was a little bit there that I was like Hmm, i don't know about, but I kind of.
- 26:21Sydney: another thing is I laughed and also cried on the inside when Sally was comparing Ro finding her lost cat to needing to find her lost groom.
- 26:30Sydney: I was like that's a and nobody flinched and nobody laughed when she said it Like I would have been like uh, okay, that's not really the same thing, but sure You know.
- 26:43Eric: Well, you watched 17 episodes of Aurora tea garden, so maybe that's just Sally, and so they're so used to it by now that they don't even bad an eye.
- 26:51Eric: I don't know, true.
- 26:53Sydney: Oh, my God, and okay, um, don Palmer, the most annoying character on the planet terrible, terribly dressed, just all around her.
- 27:03Eric: She's a stalker I know, but it's supposed to be all like Fashionably dressed and great hair, and no, no, no but I don't get that.
- 27:12Sydney: If she's this much of a stalker, why does no one have a restraining order against her?
- 27:17Sydney: And why hasn't Matt let his fiance know about her?
- 27:21Sydney: Because she clearly is like delusional And it's very awkward and weird, I mean.
- 27:30Eric: And how does Sally like, up until this point, never see her Cause she's actually within two minutes, you know walking out to go tell him something and she's just standing across the street staring in.
- 27:42Sydney: I know, but this is very Sally.
- 27:44Sydney: That's very not to know.
- 27:47Eric: Yeah, so I probably like had lunch with her and was clueless.
- 27:50Sydney: Yeah, and also like the Aida having like no confidence in herself about like selling houses and stuff.
- 27:57Sydney: That was a weird thing for me.
- 28:00Sydney: Like usually we see her and she's very like she can do anything, but in this light she was all like I don't know And I was like not into that.
- 28:11Eric: I had that as well.
- 28:12Eric: I agree, i didn't.
- 28:15Eric: I, i don't know She, i understand she was starting her agency and but it just yeah, mary Lou just does not portray vulnerability, right Right.
- 28:31Eric: You just look at her.
- 28:32Eric: She just comes across strong And you know, i don't want to say Oh, it limits her acting ability.
- 28:40Eric: I don't think it has anything to do with that.
- 28:42Eric: I think we're just so ingrained to see Mary Lou as a strong, confident woman.
- 28:50Sydney: Yeah.
- 28:51Eric: That it just yeah, i just couldn't handle it Like whatever.
- 28:55Eric: Did it bother you, though, that she's the same age as she was, you know, in episode 17 as she is now, and something new going back to when Aurora is just Starting.
- 29:08Eric: do you have any issue with that?
- 29:10Sydney: No, because I feel like she looks like a mom.
- 29:15Sydney: You know, i don't know if I.
- 29:17Sydney: Feel like they.
- 29:19Sydney: Yeah, she dressed her a little bit differently in the sense that like she wasn't wearing her power suits and that sort of thing Which I miss her power suits, i think those are more interesting, but And I feel like her hair was a little bit different in this too, like maybe in the other one Or softer.
- 29:43Sydney: Yeah, she needs it to be a bit more softer because it was very.
- 29:47Sydney: It was a little bit more severe in this, but other than that, you know what about you Yeah, so I agree, I had like as well as Ada.
- 29:59Eric: I had a.
- 30:00Eric: How do you put on Ada?
- 30:01Sydney: Ada.
- 30:02Eric: I had a that I didn't like how they had her be So insecure.
- 30:07Eric: I just didn't think it fit.
- 30:08Eric: But also there seem to be some like inconsistencies throughout that I just like.
- 30:19Eric: I'm like wait what?
- 30:20Eric: there's like one where Matt said he had, you know, when he Aurora was in there looking at his computer and he snuck up behind her and he's like oh, i thought you were Don.
- 30:34Eric: He's like, and she's like you know what?
- 30:36Eric: where are you?
- 30:37Eric: What have you been?
- 30:37Eric: Why have you been talking to me?
- 30:38Eric: He's like why?
- 30:38Eric: what's going on?
- 30:39Eric: She's like well, there's a dead body.
- 30:41Eric: And he was like there is what.
- 30:43Eric: I don't know.
- 30:43Eric: What's going on, you know.
- 30:45Eric: And then later he's telling when he's doing his little, you know, hey, this is what happened.
- 30:49Eric: He's saying I was in the hotel room and then I saw the news and I knew that I would be a suspect.
- 30:55Eric: So I was laying low, so I was like which one is it?
- 31:00Eric: and he was also in the hotel room for two days, but it seemed like it was one day with the talking with the like.
- 31:06Eric: The internal timeline in the movie just seemed to kind of be a little bit Confusing there.
- 31:14Eric: So Another thing, and once again this is petty, it's hallmark.
- 31:19Eric: So should we get bothered?
- 31:20Eric: Probably not, but for some reason it annoyed me.
- 31:22Eric: There was the scene and I guess they had to do it right for the scene but it was like when Aurora is going out to the car to grab the stuff, and so I was like, oh, it's cold here, put on my coat.
- 31:34Eric: So so I put on the coat, rose on the hood, as if it's going out into the frozen tundra.
- 31:39Eric: And then you know, she grabs stuff and then she's about to get run over and she just freezes, which maybe you would do out of panic.
- 31:47Eric: And then You know the handsome Daniel cook guy comes running out and, you know, saves her, but he's like just in his like regular old shirt with their sleeves rolled up.
- 32:01Eric: And then Arthur comes running out and he's just in like a regular light thing, and As they all assemble, nobody else seems to be cold or anything.
- 32:11Eric: So and then they, you know, are just talking afterwards and I'm like, if you're like it's so cold, shouldn't you guys like gone inside, or shouldn't someone be like kind of shivery that Aurora needed to bundle.
- 32:21Eric: Like I say, i guess they probably needed to do it so she would look like Sally purposely get run over.
- 32:29Eric: So it was a while but it was just one of those things.
- 32:31Eric: That was silly.
- 32:34Sydney: That was when he gave had the opportunity then to put his coat on her so they were trying to still keep with the cold weather for her And he gave me, my coat back.
- 32:47Eric: Nice friend, But yeah.
- 32:53Sydney: Sally.
- 32:55Eric: Oh, sally.
- 32:56Eric: but yeah, so there just seemed to be some weird little inconsistencies that weren't weren't great.
- 33:06Eric: So and another one that kind of bugged me was at the end and, like I said, i very much liked it.
- 33:14Eric: But at the end when ro goes bursting into the room and like shoves Carson aside to basically say Hey, carson's a murderer with with Matt, yeah, like wouldn't she be.
- 33:28Eric: like Oh, carson's in here, maybe not Like it just was a weird.
- 33:34Sydney: Yes, I would have.
- 33:34Sydney: Why are you here?
- 33:37Eric: I need to talk to you or something.
- 33:38Eric: It just was a very weird thing that didn't seem to fit, because once again Aurora seemed to be very thoughtful And it just didn't seem very or new Aurora ish to do something like that.
- 33:54Sydney: And also it just didn't like the first thing.
- 33:57Sydney: if I were to come in the door I would have been like Why is he here?
- 34:00Sydney: Is he trying to scam on you, like there's some secrets happening right now with the business partner?
- 34:08Eric: I don't know.
- 34:09Eric: And then my last one I'll say is why you like Sally, i'm still a little bit unsure, because she had she had her love goggles on hard where I think most people would maybe get a little chink in the arm, and maybe we know kudos to her for being so unwavering, but she just did seem to be a little too overly naive about the whole.
- 34:43Sydney: Yeah Well, sometimes people are like that when they're in love they're a little bit blinded.
- 34:48Eric: Yes, my, my roommate, who married the Hermes channeler.
- 34:55Sydney: Don't get me started on this.
- 34:56Sydney: Sedona rock lady.
- 34:57Sydney: Okay, he was, he was blinded.
- 35:00Eric: We're all telling him no, no, no, he was blinded.
- 35:03Eric: So it happens, love, love can do that to you Now.
- 35:08Eric: She didn't kill anybody, so she just showed you crystals.
- 35:11Eric: Not that I know of, maybe she did.
- 35:14Sydney: Oh, no, we're black a lot.
- 35:17Eric: All right, so that was, that was it.
- 35:22Eric: But most of the things that I didn't like there, i'll say were kind of nitpicky.
- 35:30Eric: Yeah, there weren't anything that were real big things that made me dislike it, because I think overall I very much enjoyed the movie.
- 35:40Eric: Very much enjoyed it.
- 35:43Sydney: Me too.
- 35:44Eric: All right.
- 35:45Eric: Speaking of the mystery, What did you?
- 35:50Eric: when did you figure it out?
- 35:54Sydney: So I kind of knew who it was right away Well, not right away, but like I think it was like a third of the way through And it was just the way they framed it.
- 36:04Sydney: They framed certain scenes that lingered on the person And I was like, okay, i kind of think it's that person, but I didn't know why, Like I couldn't understand yet.
- 36:17Sydney: I mean, overall, i think the mystery was pretty good And I think the premise was really understandable and interesting.
- 36:25Sydney: I mean, there were a lot of moving parts, but you know, that didn't really bother me.
- 36:31Sydney: It was just kind of like necessary distraction.
- 36:34Sydney: The only thing that bothered me And I'm sure you have this on your end too, i think it was a little bit of a distraction, but I think it was it was when they're trying to break into Matt's apartment and he's got all this like on his front door with the codes and all that, but all she had to do was sneak over the balcony and the door was open in the backside.
- 37:02Sydney: I did not have that Well for a mystery.
- 37:05Sydney: I was like wait a minute.
- 37:07Eric: He put all this effort into his front door and his back door is unlocked And I was like, oh, i'm going to do that, but that was a great.
- 37:14Eric: Oh no, that I did not have that on my thing And you know what, thanks for ruining it for me, cause I actually thought it was a really cute one, where it's like I'm going to do some entering but no breaking, and then she breaks, but um, and then Arthur's about to bust down the door and she just opens it.
- 37:29Sydney: Classic.
- 37:31Eric: No, didn't that, didn't that, one didn't bother me.
- 37:33Sydney: Okay.
- 37:35Eric: Sorry.
- 37:36Eric: So what's interesting is so, when you said you had figured out the third, the third of the second screw was in the back and you were like what I thought it was like.
- 37:42Eric: You know, i think I cut it off because I thought I was going to do an opening of the door at the end of the second And she was pretty early on saying it was.
- 37:50Eric: It was Cara, right, i think her name was.
- 37:51Eric: Yeah, yeah, she does.
- 37:53Eric: Kara, no, no, no, it's the partner.
- 37:54Eric: The partner's the bad guy.
- 37:55Eric: And, um, the thing that I kind of liked about the mystery Well, once again going back to those mystery one-on-one vibes is a lot of people and once again, following on social, a lot of people are like, yep, it's, it's Kara.
- 38:06Eric: Like I was falling in the live tweets and people were like it's gonna be her, and then other people were also saying the business partner, which was what I was thinking.
- 38:14Eric: But the thing I liked is I found it like a nice little twist at the end where, okay, yeah, it is Kara, but at the same time that the business partner and Matt still were guilty and they still had done their crime earlier.
- 38:30Eric: And I found that as kind of a fun little twist because I kept in my mind thinking, nope, matt's going to get cleared, he's, you know, he's going to turn out he.
- 38:41Eric: because it was so obvious like, oh, he did something bad that I was just expecting it to be.
- 38:46Eric: Nope, he's going to be good because they set him up to be you know, i've done a bad thing And the business partner.
- 38:53Eric: I thought that was too obvious that by you know.
- 38:55Eric: later on I'm like okay, it's going to have to be.
- 38:57Eric: nope, not him, because I was like the dancing detective.
- 39:01Eric: I actually got my wife to watch that one, which was, you know, like the Congress there, but that's how bored she was.
- 39:07Eric: But she, when I was watching it, she was like, oh, it's the wife.
- 39:11Eric: I'm like no, no, no, it can't be the wife, it's got to be Barbara, because every other character is so obvious that it can't be the obvious one And Barbara is the only extra person.
- 39:23Eric: you know they give.
- 39:24Eric: like you're saying how they gave the framing with Kara, but that was like with Barbara, it's like who's this throwaway character?
- 39:31Eric: She's got to have a purpose.
- 39:32Eric: So that's what you know, you figured it out.
- 39:37Eric: But going back to the mystery one-on-one vibe, so even though I think you know, figured out who it was, because I figured out, you know, quickly I shouldn't say quickly I was about halfway through when I was finding like, oh, it's not going to be the business partners You're right, emma, it's Kara Like mystery one-on-one, it's one of the ones where it didn't bother me because I was so engrossed in the storytelling and so engrossed in the characters that it didn't bother me.
- 40:03Eric: Like you don't always have to have the shock and to enjoy it.
- 40:08Eric: And that's like one of the, I think, the great things of the mystery one-on-one.
- 40:10Eric: So once again, I think that just contributed to this mystery one-on-one vibe for me.
- 40:15Sydney: Yeah, And plus you want to.
- 40:17Sydney: you may know who it is, but like you want to know why and you kind of want to know what happened.
- 40:23Sydney: So there's still like intrigue there.
- 40:26Sydney: And, oh my God, was Carson like the worst actor on the planet?
- 40:32Sydney: Like he was like no, I didn't know he was missing.
- 40:37Sydney: Like I could have done a better job.
- 40:41Sydney: But I feel like that was on purpose, maybe, or I don't know.
- 40:47Eric: I'll say I thought, yeah, he was probably the weakest of the actors, cause I thought overall, like you know, going back to what you said earlier, skyler and Evan were just both.
- 40:58Eric: I thought fantastic, fantastic.
- 41:00Eric: One of the things, by the way, when we were talking about the car and the mystery of you know, when she turned out to be the murder, i found it very interesting And the empathy of of this young Aurora, where she like gave her a hug because she knew she wasn't a bad person, she knew she was doing this from love And it's, you know, the sense of protecting her brother, and so she like hugged her.
- 41:30Eric: It wasn't like, oh my God, you know you threw someone over the balcony.
- 41:33Eric: You're terrible, you know you got to go to jail.
- 41:37Eric: She really felt like a moment of compassion for her And then she's like, okay, haul her away.
- 41:42Eric: But you know, regardless, she was.
- 41:45Eric: I find that very interesting because she was, you know, when she looked at Matt and the way she was protecting Sally, she's like, really, you want to go through the wedding.
- 41:55Eric: So it wasn't like she was just like overly huggy.
- 41:57Eric: So I just found that a very interesting tender scene.
- 42:03Sydney: No, yeah, it was good.
- 42:04Eric: So what was the body count there?
- 42:06Sydney: I'm going to say the body count was two.
- 42:09Eric: Kind of like when we watched the Jane Mysteries that you know the Miss, the dead body was years ago but still counted as a dead body.
- 42:21Sydney: Yeah.
- 42:22Eric: So okay, all right, now this is going to be a fun one.
- 42:26Eric: The style of the movie You kind of were a little bit unsure of some of the style.
- 42:32Eric: Oh, just because time was.
- 42:35Sydney: Yeah, yeah, but I liked it.
- 42:37Sydney: The style was really good.
- 42:39Sydney: I mean, everyone looked really good.
- 42:41Sydney: I mean, aurora had great dresses.
- 42:45Sydney: She had a great coat.
- 42:48Sydney: I love the green.
- 42:49Sydney: It all seemed like it was the green coat that was worn in mystery Cases of mystery.
- 42:55Eric: Well, she also had the green coat, or, excuse me, she had the green coat and the mustard coat.
- 42:58Eric: She had the mustard coat at the end.
- 43:01Sydney: Oh, she had the mustard at the end.
- 43:02Sydney: Yes, i missed that.
- 43:05Eric: Or the at the, at the, the whole, you know climatic, ending at the, at the marriage place.
- 43:10Sydney: She was wearing the mustard coat And she looked just as good as the.
- 43:15Eric: so the interesting thing is the green coat, and this is the head of my notes.
- 43:19Eric: I thought with her red hair she had like a red sweater or something underneath that coat with her hair.
- 43:24Eric: Yeah, she popped.
- 43:28Sydney: Yes, it's a good for redheads A green color is always very good And I think that it was also super funny to see that she used her bulletin board as, like, her clue board, because I don't know any girls who didn't have a bulletin board like that growing up, where it was all like ribbon across and could stick your postcards and your concert tickets in there.
- 43:53Eric: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 43:54Eric: I don't know any girl who didn't have a murder board up on their wall.
- 44:00Sydney: Yeah, i mean, i have one right now.
- 44:03Eric: You have your suspects up there.
- 44:06Sydney: Yeah.
- 44:06Eric: By the way, another look of hers was and it's the kind of the one that they used in a lot of publicity was that striped sweater with the jeans, that was fire.
- 44:18Eric: That look, that was fantastic.
- 44:21Sydney: But did you notice how in the promos they used a light colored jacket and then when she wore it in the movie it was with a like an actual color in the sweater, that it was like a darker one?
- 44:35Eric: I felt like the jacket in the movie looked better with it, which is why I'm saying that Oh yeah, right, it had like sort of a tan in the promo stuff, right.
- 44:43Sydney: It was almost like a blush.
- 44:45Sydney: It was hard to, but it didn't seem like as poppy as the one in the movie.
- 44:53Eric: But it just seemed to be like a total sleuther look Like.
- 44:56Eric: she definitely looked like a sleuther, I thought, in a lot of her outfits.
- 45:01Sydney: Well, it was very in keeping with the colorful Aurora Tea Garden wardrobe, which I really enjoyed.
- 45:08Eric: But and this is what Madison told us is she switched from the sweaters to the jackets.
- 45:15Sydney: Yeah, right on.
- 45:17Eric: No, no cable knit sweaters.
- 45:18Eric: Nah, you know it's funny.
- 45:21Eric: In one of the Facebook groups someone said Skyler looked dowdy.
- 45:27Eric: Would you even slightly think of that as an adjective, like even if you didn't say, oh, i didn't like her, she was too tall, because I think Aurora should be shorter.
- 45:39Eric: Like you know, ccb or whatever, but dowdy I mean.
- 45:45Sydney: I thought she was rather striking.
- 45:47Sydney: Yeah.
- 45:50Eric: But yeah, i thought that she was just very, very her style was great Yeah.
- 45:56Eric: Arthur would think about Arthur.
- 45:59Sydney: Well, arthur was kind of like.
- 46:00Sydney: You know, he was wearing his uniform most of the time and his off look was good too.
- 46:06Sydney: I liked him at the was it the rehearsal dinner Or was it the engagement, i don't know But it looked good.
- 46:16Sydney: It was like a nice suit and, yeah, i think.
- 46:20Sydney: I think he looked good.
- 46:22Sydney: What about you?
- 46:24Eric: I agree, and I think our friend Steve Basick, detective Cook, you know I could see him having, like you know, that shirt from JC Penney and you know the the Paul Yesterblend tie with maybe like a little bit of a coffee stain on the wrist or like Stop, that He looked like.
- 46:41Eric: He looked like a detective, like I don't have too busy.
- 46:46Eric: Wait, he didn't have a leather jacket, did he?
- 46:48Sydney: Yeah, when he, when he first was on the scene, and then he says like, why don't you escort Miss Tea Garden away from here?
- 46:56Eric: But the he just like I say, he just looked like a detective.
- 47:00Eric: I'm too busy solving crimes to worry about.
- 47:03Eric: you know what I'm wearing?
- 47:05Eric: I thought it was good.
- 47:07Eric: It totally fit what you, what you want from him.
- 47:11Sydney: Yeah.
- 47:12Eric: Now what do you say?
- 47:13Eric: we get into rating this movie.
- 47:15Sydney: Let's do it.
- 47:17Eric: Steve meter How steamy was this movie.
- 47:24Sydney: I gave it a five.
- 47:26Eric: You're too higher than me.
- 47:28Sydney: Well, i gave it a five solely because of that car scene, because of when what's his face rescues her from the oncoming car.
- 47:36Sydney: And then Arthur gets tall like I don't know if you were, but I.
- 47:45Eric: We're just friends at the end Yeah, let's see that's.
- 47:48Eric: Any of the steam that maybe was building just gets let out because, like can you believe this?
- 47:56Eric: Can you believe this?
- 47:57Eric: Arthur Daniel thinks like you want to ask me out.
- 48:00Eric: Too weird, we're just friends, got to go by, come on.
- 48:06Sydney: Yeah, get it together, arthur.
- 48:09Eric: Okay, Speaking of steam meter, So one of the knocks on this movie.
- 48:16Eric: A lot of people are saying, Oh well, what's the point?
- 48:18Eric: because you know that she doesn't end up with Arthur.
- 48:22Sydney: Mm, hmm.
- 48:24Eric: Does that bother you That?
- 48:25Eric: No, I would I invest in their relationship if they're not going to end up together.
- 48:30Sydney: No, I want to see the romance, you know, I want to see it.
- 48:34Eric: I want to see the young detective Lynn swoop in and and stomp on young So one of the things in the book where I'm at right now is there's Robinson.
- 48:48Eric: Robin Caruso is the mystery writer who kind of gets a little crush on and she smooches him and she's like, oh, i got flustered.
- 48:59Eric: But then there's Arthur, who did not go to high school with her but he is the local detective.
- 49:03Eric: I think he's a little bit older and he's also a little like definitely not Peter Benson, he's like a little more like Steve basic, i guess, kind of character.
- 49:15Eric: But then right at right, right before I had to quit tonight, he, he gave her a kiss and it was a heavy, passionate kiss that she was filling in her loins.
- 49:28Eric: So the books a little, the books a little racy.
- 49:31Eric: It is a little bit.
- 49:35Sydney: But yeah, crazy and outland.
- 49:36Eric: So in the book she she goes for the, has the two different love interests there.
- 49:42Eric: So it kind of has this here with Daniel and Arthur will see.
- 49:46Eric: So, yeah, i only gave it to just because it's not a knock, it's just where it is in the story, right, she's right, just focusing on her school.
- 49:56Eric: I don't know if I have time.
- 49:57Eric: To date It wasn't, wasn't really part of it yet, but it definitely that last thing made some groundwork between Daniel and Arthur.
- 50:05Eric: Yeah, all right, the story story.
- 50:12Sydney: I gave it night.
- 50:14Eric: I gave it a nine.
- 50:14Eric: I thought it was very good.
- 50:16Eric: I thought it was a great sort of getting this backstory on Aurora, seeing her, you know, just graduating school where they were.
- 50:28Eric: I had a couple of lines in there that I wrote down.
- 50:31Eric: One of them, in a paraphrase, is Sally saying never talk about Matt again.
- 50:38Eric: which is like from people who have talked about or who watched the Rory Teagarden's which year one That's one of the things I've heard is Aurora or Sally never has this like even mention of the serious relationship.
- 50:54Eric: And right there she sort of set it up for all the future by saying we're never talking about Matt again.
- 51:00Eric: So therefore, that's why you never in the future ones hear about her murdering.
- 51:07Eric: So you know, and Madison just can't help but kill people.
- 51:12Eric: Gosh man, i talk after.
- 51:15Eric: after I watched it, i send them a message.
- 51:17Eric: I'm like seriously, you kill again.
- 51:21Sydney: Gosh killer.
- 51:21Sydney: And then where is my line, killer?
- 51:25Eric: Oh, the other line is when Aurora is talking to her mom and she's like I just being something about like be careful, don't get too into this, or whatever.
- 51:36Eric: I don't plan on making a habit of this sort of thing.
- 51:40Sydney: Yeah.
- 51:40Eric: I thought was just a very fun line because, as we know, there's 17 future episodes, So she definitely makes it a habit.
- 51:51Eric: So once again I found like a bunch of little things in there just very cute.
- 51:55Eric: I thought the story overall was was good and it told a.
- 51:59Eric: You know, obviously had some like weird consistency things, but all in all I really much enjoyed.
- 52:03Eric: I think I deserved the nine.
- 52:06Eric: Okay, Mystery.
- 52:08Sydney: Mystery.
- 52:10Eric: I gave it a seven.
- 52:10Eric: I gave it a seven.
- 52:12Eric: Why, why, why?
- 52:12Eric: why were you a seven?
- 52:13Eric: because the predictability, or what?
- 52:16Sydney: I felt like it was really good.
- 52:19Sydney: It just wasn't one of my.
- 52:20Sydney: It was just wasn't like the best.
- 52:22Sydney: So it deserved like a higher ranking than just in the middle, because there was thought to it and there was, it was interesting, but it just wasn't like oh my God, earth shattering you know yeah, it's like no.
- 52:37Eric: have you had a chance to catch up and watch dancing detective?
- 52:41Sydney: I have not ever since getting YouTube TV.
- 52:44Sydney: I got to figure out all stuff.
- 52:47Eric: I need home.
- 52:48Eric: Well, i just switched.
- 52:49Eric: Ironically, i switched to it last week too, but the like, the mystery in there just didn't really make sense, whereas this one, like to your point, it did make sense.
- 53:01Eric: It just, like I say, wasn't like the overall most intriguing, like wasn't the most intriguing thing in the movie.
- 53:08Eric: The story was more intriguing, i thought.
- 53:11Sydney: Yeah.
- 53:11Eric: Right Where we, where we lay out the acting for this one.
- 53:17Sydney: I am at an eight.
- 53:20Eric: Hey, I said an eight too.
- 53:21Eric: Now we're aligning.
- 53:25Sydney: It's good acting.
- 53:26Eric: I thought so too, and if it was, like I say, there's just a couple of those other characters like Unsure about Sally and, as you said, carson, yeah, like they kind of just brought it down a little bit, and I don't want to say Mary Lou's acting, because it was the role she was Given.
- 53:46Eric: But once again, it just I just didn't see her being weak, didn't see her being insecure, so yeah but if it was just going off of the big two, it would have been a 10.
- 54:02Sydney: Totally.
- 54:03Eric: Those two were great, okay, style.
- 54:08Sydney: I gave it an eight.
- 54:11Eric: Ooh, I beat you.
- 54:12Eric: I guess that Steve basic and his coffee stain sleeves I was a little more impressed with than you.
- 54:18Eric: I gave it a nine.
- 54:20Sydney: Sometimes you have to beat me.
- 54:23Eric: The, the.
- 54:25Eric: yeah, i like I thought Aurora was just perfect throughout it and I thought the other characters were all very appropriate, so I had yeah.
- 54:34Eric: I had nothing against it.
- 54:36Eric: What do you total up to?
- 54:38Sydney: I total up to 36.
- 54:41Eric: I told old up to 36.
- 54:42Eric: So that's got to be 72.
- 54:44Eric: We got there a little different way, but so 70, 72.
- 54:48Eric: I would say we probably both agree that pretty good, first, first one.
- 54:56Eric: A couple things could be a little bit better.
- 54:59Eric: So here's an interesting thing.
- 55:01Eric: By the way, is the same writer, tina Booth, wrote all the other Aurora tea gardens, wrote this one?
- 55:08Eric: Oh nice.
- 55:08Eric: So it's not like the person who wrote this didn't have a complete understanding of the Aurora tea garden character.
- 55:19Sydney: Yeah.
- 55:20Eric: So I think, and then what's it?
- 55:23Eric: what's her name?
- 55:24Eric: Charmaine, whatever.
- 55:26Sydney: Charmaine Harris.
- 55:27Eric: Charmaine Harris is also executive producer, So she's, I'm guessing, pretty involved.
- 55:33Eric: So I don't like anyone who wants to complain and say, oh, they're ruining it, They don't get it.
- 55:39Eric: I think they definitely had an idea of who these characters were And this is my little rant.
- 55:46Eric: I went on in our Instagram of they're just young people, They're a different point in their life, They're going to be very different And I thought they did a really good job of, like I said, they understand.
- 55:58Eric: So no one can claim that.
- 56:00Eric: Oh hey, you know, whatever writer came in and just change it, kind of like you know the the murder she baked going into Aurora tea garden.
- 56:07Eric: They have different writers now So it has a different feel.
- 56:10Sydney: But yeah, totally agree.
- 56:13Eric: My little rant getting us a box Sorry.
- 56:16Sydney: That's okay.
- 56:17Eric: All right.
- 56:17Eric: Well, that's about it.
- 56:19Eric: Anything else we need to talk about tonight.
- 56:22Sydney: No, but my parents just got back, so we better get going.
- 56:26Eric: The parents are in the house.
- 56:28Eric: Sydney is on her curfew.
- 56:31Sydney: Oh, my God.
- 56:35Eric: Oh, guest appearance, Fantastic.
- 56:38Eric: Well, because Sydney's parents are there, let's wrap it up And, as usual, please tell a friend about the podcast.
