- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Friday it's the 1st of
- 0:16August. It's a brand new man.
- 0:18Pinch and a punch till you and all that.
- 0:21Hope you're going well at the end of this week.
- 0:23If you are here and you read yesterday's Bible reading with
- 0:26me, then Blimey Charlie, well done.
- 0:29You've made it through probably the most cursed tastic chapter
- 0:33in the Bible. Wow.
- 0:36Yes, we certainly do encounter all the breadth and depth of
- 0:40God's Word as we move through it chapter by chapter, The grace,
- 0:44the cursing, the love, the poetry, and today the wisdom,
- 0:49the wisdom of God. We we worship and follow an
- 0:53amazing God who is so multifaceted and complete in the
- 0:57very fullest sense of the Word. And it is amazing to be able to
- 1:02access and learn about all these different sides.
- 1:05And it is wonderful that the side that Jesus shows us that
- 1:09love and compassion is the side that God most wants us to know
- 1:14about him. So let us come before our wise
- 1:18and compassionate God as we hear some pithy statements of His
- 1:22wisdom captured by King Solomon and shared for us today as we
- 1:26read together Proverbs 15 one to seven.
- 1:40A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers
- 1:45flare. The tongue of the wise makes
- 1:49knowledge appealing, but the mouth of a fool belches out
- 1:53foolishness. The Lord is watching everywhere,
- 1:57keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.
- 2:02Gentle words are a tree of life. A deceitful tongue crushes the
- 2:07spirit. Only a fool despises a parent's
- 2:12discipline. Whoever learns from correction
- 2:14is wise. There is treasure in the House
- 2:19of the godly that the earnings of the wicked bring trouble.
- 2:24The lips of the wise give good advice.
- 2:27The heart of a fool has none to give.
- 2:32And again, a gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words
- 2:38make tempers flare. The tongue of the wise makes
- 2:43knowledge appealing, that the mouth of a fool belches out
- 2:47foolishness. The Lord is watching everywhere,
- 2:52keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.
- 2:56Gentle words are a tree of life. A deceitful tongue crushes the
- 3:01spirit. Only a fool despises a parent's
- 3:05discipline. Whoever learns from correction
- 3:07is wise. There is treasure in the House
- 3:12of the godly, but the earnings of the wicked bring trouble.
- 3:17The lips of the wise give good advice.
- 3:20The heart of a fool has none to give.
- 3:33Wow, there is so much in these proverbs Lord, but as my eyes
- 3:40are drawn to the middle proverb that gentle words are a tree of
- 3:44life and a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit, our Lord,
- 3:50our world really values power and assertiveness and truth
- 3:56telling. And while these things have
- 3:59their place here, you remind us that gentle words, gentle words,
- 4:04are like a tree of life. You say that when we can speak
- 4:08gently, not with that force and power that we're able to, but
- 4:12with gentle, when we show restraint and kindness in the
- 4:16gentle way that we deal with others, it springs up like a
- 4:20tree of life, growing all sorts of possibility and kindness and
- 4:26provision. And when we speak with deceit,
- 4:32our tongue crushes the spirit, and I dare say not just the
- 4:36spirit of the one we speak with, but our own spirit as well.
- 4:40So Lord, I just pray that you continue your transformational
- 4:43work in us so that that fruit of Your spirit gentleness can grow
- 4:49in US, bringing about Your Kingdom in the way that we
- 4:53encounter and engage with others.
- 4:56Thank you for showing us what chance on this looks like with
- 5:00the restraint and love and generosity that you have shown
- 5:03us in Jesus. And so we pray all of this in
- 5:07his gentle name, Amen.
