- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, This is
- 0:24Speaker 1: Peter Schrager. This is the Season with Peter Schrager, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: there is a special episode We're clear in the decks.
- 0:31Speaker 1: This is for you fantasy football heads. I really labored
- 0:34Speaker 1: on doing a fantasy football podcast episode because I don't
- 0:39Speaker 1: know the space a little saturated, if you will. Sometimes
- 0:43Speaker 1: I roll my eyes when I see people on TV
- 0:45Speaker 1: talking about fantasy football and I know that like, guy
- 0:47Speaker 1: it's a no munch, or that guy doesn't know it's
- 0:49Speaker 1: just reading something from something. But I think there is
- 0:53Speaker 1: a service to be done because there are a lot
- 0:55Speaker 1: of you who listen to this podcast who are walking
- 0:57Speaker 1: into a fantasy football draft this weekend and you don't
- 1:01Speaker 1: quite feel one hundred ready. We're gonna fine tune it
- 1:04Speaker 1: a little bit with three guests this week, guys that
- 1:06Speaker 1: I have grown to really like, and they have a
- 1:08Speaker 1: podcast of their own. Our guests guys who were put
- 1:13Speaker 1: together once they started working at The Ringer for Bill Simmons,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and since then their podcast has taken off. I really
- 1:21Speaker 1: enjoy listening to them. I don't even really care about
- 1:23Speaker 1: their football stuff. I love their personalities and their rapport.
- 1:25Speaker 1: That's what it's all about. With no further ado, the
- 1:28Speaker 1: gentlemen from the Ringer Fantasy Football Podcast, Danny Heifetz, Danny Kelly,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and my former producer, Craig Hurlbeck. So our guests this week.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I have to be honest, I am huge fans of
- 1:41Speaker 1: their work. I typically I'm not the guy who's listening
- 1:46Speaker 1: to seven different fantasy football podcasts, but with fantasy drafts
- 1:49Speaker 1: coming up this weekend, in so many tweets and text
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm getting about, oh Fantasy draft time, I thought it
- 1:56Speaker 1: would be fun to have on my favorite fantasy football
- 1:59Speaker 1: podcast host. These guys do it three times a week.
- 2:03Speaker 1: They do it over on The Ringer and I really
- 2:05Speaker 1: enjoy their poor and also their information.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Craig Hrlbeck, Danny Kelly, Danny Hifetz. Theyre the gentleman from
- 2:13Speaker 1: the Ringer Fantasy Football Show. Gentlemen, Welcome to the season
- 2:17Speaker 1: with Peter Schrager.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Thanks for having us, Shregs. It's great to be back, Shregs.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I've missed you.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Let's explain. Let's explain our history. Craig, So, I really
- 2:27Speaker 1: love you. I think you're awesome at what you do.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And now I listen to you not only on this podcast,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but on you know, the Town podcast where you're always
- 2:35Speaker 1: giving your your thoughts to Matt Maloney and you're giving
- 2:37Speaker 1: like a little different generation than him, maybe maybe one
- 2:40Speaker 1: that's you know, more of the target audience at times,
- 2:43Speaker 1: but also on the rewatchable like you've blown up quite
- 2:46Speaker 1: a bit. You got married, you're a fully grown man.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But you and I we met two years ago at
- 2:51Speaker 1: the height of the pandemic, and if you want to
- 2:53Speaker 1: tell the listeners our relationship help blossomed, I'm here to
- 2:55Speaker 1: listen as well.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Sure. Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 4: During the pandemic, we did a show called Flying Coach
- 2:59Speaker 4: with Me, Shregs and the one and only Sean McVay
- 3:03Speaker 4: on the Ringer podcast Network. Ten episodes with Sean shreg
- 3:06Speaker 4: and all the coolest coaches, all their best friends from
- 3:09Speaker 4: around the league, and it's still up on the Ringer
- 3:11Speaker 4: podcast never.
- 3:11Speaker 3: You can go listen to it right now.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I highly recommend it, specifically the Shanahan episode. Great episode
- 3:17Speaker 4: and Tomlin.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So good dude. All fly Delta and they have like
- 3:22Speaker 1: a little section on the Delta and it says podcasts
- 3:24Speaker 1: and those Flying Coach episodes are sitting there on the
- 3:26Speaker 1: plane and I'm so proud of them. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The story I love to tell though, is, obviously you
- 3:32Speaker 1: sent equipment to both me and Sean. I get the equipment,
- 3:35Speaker 1: set it up, no problem. Here's the NFL's coach of
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Year. And what had to happen.
- 3:39Speaker 4: He needed a personal visit for myself to come and
- 3:42Speaker 4: set his equipment up, which, listen, I was happy to do.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I was happy to be there and help him out.
- 3:46Speaker 4: So he wasn't as bad as Pete Carroll.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Though, So pet Carrol the year before, you need a
- 3:52Speaker 3: little more savvy than Carroll technologically.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, both will be going at it in the NFC West.
- 3:58Speaker 1: All right, So your podcast, it's three guys. You talk football,
- 4:03Speaker 1: but you talk life, You talk all sorts of stuff.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And I like it because it's not so numbers banging
- 4:08Speaker 1: you over the head with the term ADP, and it's
- 4:10Speaker 1: not so much it's more about the lifestyle of playing
- 4:12Speaker 1: fantasy football.
- 4:14Speaker 5: The best compliment we get is people ask us, oh,
- 4:16Speaker 5: so you guys were friends and they gave you a podcast.
- 4:18Speaker 5: We actually became friends doing the show, and it's we
- 4:22Speaker 5: all have like wildly different backgrounds, and I think what's
- 4:25Speaker 5: different between us and other fantasy shows. It's not better,
- 4:27Speaker 5: it's not worse. It's like, although fantasy shows are fantasy experts,
- 4:31Speaker 5: and we all, like none of us really came up
- 4:33Speaker 5: as fantasy football experts at all, So I think we
- 4:35Speaker 5: just have different kinds of conversations. The reality is that
- 4:38Speaker 5: fantasy football is the best way for adult American men
- 4:41Speaker 5: to stay in touch as they get in their twenties, thirties,
- 4:43Speaker 5: forties and beyond.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Like people, we talked about this all the time. It's
- 4:46Speaker 4: like our new religion is like it's the way we gather,
- 4:50Speaker 4: It's the way we.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Like hang out.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Nowadays we all sit in our houses online and stuff
- 4:54Speaker 4: like that. There's nowhere to like really congregate, and fantasy
- 4:57Speaker 4: football is the best way to stay in touch with
- 4:58Speaker 4: people who you don't live there.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Just people get married, kids, there's and then there's a schedule.
- 5:02Speaker 5: It's like the games. Everything's at the same time of
- 5:04Speaker 5: the year. It really is about like it's kind of
- 5:06Speaker 5: like the kitchen island where friend groups can stay together virtually.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yes, it is true, like you know you have that
- 5:13Speaker 1: calendar and it's like summer you won't talk to these
- 5:15Speaker 1: people at all, and everyone's on their trips and everyone's
- 5:17Speaker 1: work and whatever. And then that September first week starts
- 5:20Speaker 1: and the kickoff goes, and all of a sudden, you're
- 5:22Speaker 1: on a text chain with the same guys you've been
- 5:23Speaker 1: on a text chain with for twenty straight years.
- 5:24Speaker 4: It's like you never left it is, yeah, all right,
- 5:26Speaker 4: but you guys do.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Follow it really closely day to day. So I wanted
- 5:30Speaker 1: to give up some topics for viewers or listeners who
- 5:33Speaker 1: are tuning in to be like, all right, I got
- 5:35Speaker 1: my draft this weekend. I'm not necessarily studying, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 1: every NFL network show and learning what Anthony Richardson's doing
- 5:43Speaker 1: on a down to down basis, but you guys have
- 5:45Speaker 1: put the work, and here's what IM gonna do. I'm
- 5:46Speaker 1: gonna give you some topics and I want answers from
- 5:49Speaker 1: each of you guys, which are going to service tips
- 5:50Speaker 1: and clues for my listeners who are doing their drafts
- 5:54Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Are we good?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Let's get it all right.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Let's start off.
- 5:57Speaker 1: We'll go Danny high Fitz first. Your Fantasy Football sleeper
- 6:02Speaker 1: of the Year is who.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Gave Davis for the Bills. It's the most classic. It's
- 6:08Speaker 5: the class going up, class type sleeper man Gabe Dave. Again,
- 6:13Speaker 5: he was kind of too hyped up last year, and
- 6:16Speaker 5: again he was going like a top sixty pick. People
- 6:19Speaker 5: saw the four touchdown game in the playoffs, thirteen second
- 6:21Speaker 5: game against the Chiefs, People including us, got a little
- 6:23Speaker 5: too over hyped. And the reality is didn't have a
- 6:25Speaker 5: great season, kind of had this nagging I think it
- 6:28Speaker 5: was groin injury or hamstring early in the season. He
- 6:30Speaker 5: had one great game against the Steelers as sorry, Craig,
- 6:33Speaker 5: and then honestly, he was pretty terrible. Here's the thing,
- 6:37Speaker 5: Gabe Davis is now going outside the top one hundred. Basically,
- 6:40Speaker 5: nothing has changed. Nothing has changed. He's still huge, he's
- 6:44Speaker 5: still fast, He's still the deep threat for the Bills.
- 6:46Speaker 5: The only thing that they've added is Dalton Kincaid, the
- 6:48Speaker 5: tight end, the first rounder, who, if anything, is gonna
- 6:51Speaker 5: help Gabe Davis by working underneath. But the reality is
- 6:53Speaker 5: this is still Josh Allen's deep threat. The only differences
- 6:56Speaker 5: He's going five to six, maybe seven rounds later. And
- 6:59Speaker 5: it's exactly the point in your draft where you're pivoting
- 7:01Speaker 5: from more reliable guys to actually, I want home run threats.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I'm trying to home run a strikeout when get outside
- 7:06Speaker 5: the top one hundred and Gabe Davis to me is
- 7:09Speaker 5: like the definition of people had him last year, We're
- 7:11Speaker 5: upset and now he's too cheap.
- 7:13Speaker 1: They hold it against him for the following ers say
- 7:14Speaker 1: I'm not going to do that again. It used to
- 7:16Speaker 1: happen with guys who would get injured, Like you draft
- 7:18Speaker 1: Fred Taylor and you hope draft him in the first round.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm dating you, guys, is before you were born. Remember
- 7:23Speaker 1: draft Fred Taylor and you're like, he's good, and then
- 7:26Speaker 1: Freddie would get hurt like week eight, and you're like,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm not doing it again next year, and then you
- 7:31Speaker 1: hold it against him and it's probably not fair. Danny Kelly,
- 7:33Speaker 1: your sleeper of the year this year twenty twenty three,
- 7:36Speaker 1: is whom.
- 7:36Speaker 6: I'm calling an audible today just because he was announced
- 7:39Speaker 6: as this team starter.
- 7:41Speaker 7: Anthony Richardson, quarterback for the Colts.
- 7:44Speaker 6: I think, so he's not so much a sleeper in
- 7:47Speaker 6: like the best ball streets.
- 7:48Speaker 7: I think a lot the best ball people are kind
- 7:49Speaker 7: of all over him already.
- 7:50Speaker 6: But in terms of just day to day you know
- 7:54Speaker 6: home leagues. I still think he's being really really underrated.
- 7:57Speaker 6: He brings legitimate, like top five potential at quarterback and
- 8:01Speaker 6: he doesn't even have to be a good passer. That's
- 8:02Speaker 6: the beauty of it. Like he could be terrible and
- 8:04Speaker 6: by the way, he probably is going to be terrible
- 8:06Speaker 6: as passer this year. If you look at what Justin
- 8:09Speaker 6: Fields did, he was a top five, top six quarterback
- 8:11Speaker 6: going down the stretch of the season he was.
- 8:15Speaker 1: He lost ten games.
- 8:16Speaker 7: They literally went to like.
- 8:18Speaker 6: The Navy offense we joke about all the time on
- 8:20Speaker 6: our show, Like they passed the ball fewer than at
- 8:23Speaker 6: a lower rate than almost any team in the last
- 8:25Speaker 6: twenty years. You know, Anthony Richardson could be terrible at
- 8:28Speaker 6: passing and he could still be, you know, top three,
- 8:30Speaker 6: top five quarterback just because of the rushing. The way
- 8:33Speaker 6: that stats are set up in fantasy football, it really
- 8:35Speaker 6: benefits quarterbacks who run.
- 8:36Speaker 7: These are the types of guys that are league winners,
- 8:39Speaker 7: week winners, and league winners.
- 8:40Speaker 6: So Anthony Richardson, just because he can run, I think
- 8:43Speaker 6: he's going to be a big time webin for them
- 8:44Speaker 6: in the red zone, kind of like we' seen Jalen
- 8:46Speaker 6: Hurts over the last few years. Jalen Hurts double digit
- 8:48Speaker 6: rushing touchdowns last few seasons. I don't think that Richardson's
- 8:51Speaker 6: necessarily at Jalen Hurts's level yet clearly, but I think
- 8:55Speaker 6: they can use him in the red zone, kind of
- 8:56Speaker 6: like Cam Newton to punch it in.
- 8:58Speaker 7: I think he's going to score a lot of touchdowns.
- 9:00Speaker 7: I think he's gonna run a lot, and.
- 9:01Speaker 6: I think he's going to be one of the best
- 9:02Speaker 6: late round picks that you can possibly make.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Love it, Craig, take us sleeper, who you got Johan Dotson,
- 9:09Speaker 1: the wide receiver and the Commanders second year.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Guy, first to first.
- 9:13Speaker 4: People forget, you know, just because he was drafted around
- 9:16Speaker 4: Jet Wilson, Chris Alave, Jamison Williams, Treylon Burks.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I bet you if you ask.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Most people, they would not expect Johan Dotson to be
- 9:22Speaker 4: a first round pick.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Last year.
- 9:23Speaker 4: He started super hot, four touchdowns four games, and then
- 9:26Speaker 4: he got hurt, and then he came back and finished strong.
- 9:28Speaker 4: So his season long stats aren't great, which is what
- 9:30Speaker 4: people look back on. Most average fantasy players are looking
- 9:33Speaker 4: back on the season long stats, and they would look
- 9:34Speaker 4: at Johan Dotson and go, oh yeah, he wasn't as
- 9:36Speaker 4: good as Terry McLaurin last year, but in reality, the
- 9:39Speaker 4: final five games of the season, when they were both healthy,
- 9:41Speaker 4: he was beating McLaurin and all the nerdy stats that
- 9:44Speaker 4: everybody likes. Your targets per route run, their yards per
- 9:46Speaker 4: rout run, red zone targets, share, all that stuff. Straight
- 9:49Speaker 4: up targets he had more than Terry mclauurin in the
- 9:51Speaker 4: last five games of the season. Now we've got Eric
- 9:54Speaker 4: bienemy In. I like Sam holland Burssett at least enough
- 9:57Speaker 4: to make a little bit of a jump, and receivers
- 9:59Speaker 4: typically make the biggest jomp between year one and year two.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Dotson's also just an eye test guy. When you watch him,
- 10:04Speaker 4: you're like, this guy has it and you can get
- 10:06Speaker 4: him around ninetieth one hundredth in your draft right now.
- 10:09Speaker 3: I love Dotson.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I loved the conversation you guys had on your podcast
- 10:18Speaker 1: last week, and you did it about guys who might
- 10:21Speaker 1: be in the twilights of their NFL careers, and because
- 10:25Speaker 1: people just want the young, fresh, new face, they don't draft,
- 10:29Speaker 1: but then year after year can still deliver. I'm gonna
- 10:32Speaker 1: call this the Keenan Allen Award where he's still around,
- 10:35Speaker 1: he still puts up numbers, and yet you look at
- 10:38Speaker 1: these top twenty wide receivers, Keenan Allen never in the list,
- 10:40Speaker 1: whenever year, finishing that high. Why don't we go around
- 10:42Speaker 1: the horn and you each give one of those names,
- 10:44Speaker 1: a guy that you know is going to deliver and
- 10:45Speaker 1: yet probably will not be drafted as high as he should.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Danny Hidefelz, I guess.
- 10:49Speaker 5: You, bud, Travis Kelcey doesn't count because he's still a
- 10:51Speaker 5: first rounder. I do want to shut out that. The
- 10:53Speaker 5: only reason.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Would you take Travis kelce in the first round? Is
- 10:55Speaker 1: that happening people take on the first round?
- 10:57Speaker 5: Because here's the thing. Yeah, literally, the only argument against
- 11:00Speaker 5: Travis kelce literally is that he's thirty four years old
- 11:02Speaker 5: and people are afraid of him bottoming out. The reality
- 11:05Speaker 5: is Travis kelce.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Age is just a number.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Guys, look at you, Trager, You were better than conversations.
- 11:12Speaker 5: Is that when Craig and I were in our mid twenties,
- 11:14Speaker 5: we hated old, We hated players as the thirty. Now
- 11:16Speaker 5: Craig and I are almost thirty, and we're like, you know,
- 11:18Speaker 5: what's fine? Old players. Thirty is just the number.
- 11:21Speaker 4: But it's like it's like George Clooney turned fifteen and
- 11:24Speaker 4: he's like, you know what, I'm gonna settle down, Like
- 11:25Speaker 4: I'm actually okay with marrying somebody over the.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Interest now is time?
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, He's like, you know what.
- 11:28Speaker 5: It's So it's like in my younger days, I was
- 11:30Speaker 5: pretty terrified to take Derek Kenry or Travis Kelsek because
- 11:33Speaker 5: I'm like, thirty, My god, he must have like a
- 11:35Speaker 5: mortgage or something. But uh, like Kelsey like hasn't missed
- 11:40Speaker 5: the game to injury. He's had he had COVID and
- 11:42Speaker 5: he had you know, they get benched in week seventeen
- 11:44Speaker 5: because they're always clinching playoffs.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Stop saying it.
- 11:47Speaker 5: I know, sorry, I'm not gonna win. I gotta Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 5: but the Kelsey hasn't missed the game to injury, they're
- 11:52Speaker 5: not gonna what in a decade. It's like Jamar Chase
- 11:54Speaker 5: is going ahead of him. He missed it games last year.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Cooper Cup missed games last year. Like all these all
- 11:59Speaker 5: the players that are supposedly younger and safer have been
- 12:02Speaker 5: injured at some point. Kelsey hasn't, So I'm probably giving
- 12:05Speaker 5: him the kind of her as they would say, but yeah,
- 12:07Speaker 5: nice to me, Kelsey. It's like buying applestock. It's like,
- 12:11Speaker 5: this is the safest thing there is.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm here for the Yiddish Danny Kelly. What about you?
- 12:17Speaker 1: Who's the guy that you know? You see and you're like,
- 12:19Speaker 1: come on.
- 12:21Speaker 7: My guy this year is Dedre Hopkins.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Really with Tannehill in that offense.
- 12:25Speaker 6: So I actually like Tannehill. I think I'm the last
- 12:29Speaker 6: person on tannehill Island. I think he's solid. I don't
- 12:32Speaker 6: think he's like great. It was right there and I
- 12:36Speaker 6: freaking missed it your audio cut out, But yeah, I
- 12:39Speaker 6: mean to me, like he's he's really solid. I don't
- 12:41Speaker 6: think he's like great or anything, but he's still a
- 12:43Speaker 6: solid veteran. I think he's gonna feed a guy like
- 12:45Speaker 6: Dedre Hopkins. I think there's a lot of question marks,
- 12:48Speaker 6: you know, outside of Hopkins in terms of what we're
- 12:50Speaker 6: gonna expect from this offense.
- 12:51Speaker 7: Obviously, Trailing Burks.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Is there, and he's an up and coming guy, but
- 12:53Speaker 6: he's still young, still very inexperienced, and and I think
- 12:57Speaker 6: Hopkins is just gonna get force fed in this offense.
- 13:00Speaker 6: Last year, this is this was wild to me when
- 13:03Speaker 6: I found this stat. Last year, in the nine games
- 13:05Speaker 6: that Hopkins played, he averaged ten point seven targets per game.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Really good.
- 13:09Speaker 6: The only the only player, the only receivers who had
- 13:11Speaker 6: more targets per game than him are Chase Cup and
- 13:14Speaker 6: Jefferson like the first like the first four picks, first
- 13:17Speaker 6: five picks, So you know, he's definitely getting older. But
- 13:22Speaker 6: his game has never really been built on speed or explosiveness.
- 13:25Speaker 6: It's always about body positioning. Old man at the Y type,
- 13:28Speaker 6: you know, post a guy up and skyhook him and
- 13:31Speaker 6: fundamental that guy's footwork. Yeah, getting get low, low fatality,
- 13:37Speaker 6: you know, boxing out.
- 13:39Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 13:39Speaker 7: To me, he's just so good.
- 13:41Speaker 6: He's I heard Tannehill called him vintage Hopkins the other day,
- 13:46Speaker 6: and I think he's just going to have a really
- 13:47Speaker 6: big year. And people are forgeting about him because's a
- 13:49Speaker 6: little older and he switched teams, which that's valid, But
- 13:52Speaker 6: I still think he's going to be the focal point
- 13:53Speaker 6: of this passing game.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Craig, tell me why Derek Henry is going in the
- 13:57Speaker 4: second round.
- 13:57Speaker 3: What's changed?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Talk about it.
- 13:59Speaker 3: He had three hundred and.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Fifty carries last year, played the entire season, was the
- 14:03Speaker 4: third best running back in Fantasy.
- 14:05Speaker 3: And everyone's just like, I'm good. He's twenty eight.
- 14:07Speaker 4: No thanks, Like Leodocaprio when a girl turns twenty six,
- 14:10Speaker 4: he's like, I'm out, give me a reason why there's
- 14:14Speaker 4: nothing's changed.
- 14:15Speaker 3: He's still Dereck Henry.
- 14:17Speaker 4: We're all obsessed with this idea now that as running
- 14:19Speaker 4: backs enter their late twenties, they just, you know, I
- 14:23Speaker 4: think it's a misnomer.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Essentially, we're betting on science, you know, we're.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Betting on these phenomenal athletes preparing their bodies and actually
- 14:31Speaker 4: taking advantage of the technological advance. And we have now,
- 14:34Speaker 4: and Dereck Henry is twenty eight years old. And if
- 14:36Speaker 4: I'm going to bet on anybody to actually make it
- 14:38Speaker 4: to their thirties and not fall off, I'm gonna pick
- 14:40Speaker 4: the guy who gets three hundred and fifty carries every
- 14:42Speaker 4: single year and continues to be a top five running
- 14:44Speaker 4: back of Fantasy. And he's just sitting there in the
- 14:45Speaker 4: second round now because he's old. It's age shaming, really,
- 14:49Speaker 4: fourteen ages, fourteenth.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Round starts rolling around, and it is now you can
- 14:53Speaker 1: take a little you already took a kicker. You already
- 14:54Speaker 1: tick your defense, you got maybe two more picks left
- 14:56Speaker 1: to go, and you want to take a rookie. I'm
- 14:58Speaker 1: gonna go around the horn. Craig will start with you
- 15:00Speaker 1: give me a rookie that might still be around then
- 15:02Speaker 1: that you're looking at. Maybe he's not the first or
- 15:05Speaker 1: second overall pick, but it's a guy that you've got
- 15:07Speaker 1: your eye on.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Interesting a rookie, can I go with? I think I
- 15:12Speaker 4: want to go with the tight end position here. I like,
- 15:14Speaker 4: I like, yeah, I like two guys. I like Luke Musgrave,
- 15:17Speaker 4: and I like uh yep, And I like Jake Ferguson,
- 15:20Speaker 4: Michael Mayer, Yeah yeah, Ferguson out of Okay and Ferguson, Oh,
- 15:24Speaker 4: Ferguson second year guy, Musgrave rookie.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I'll stick with you with mus.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Grave Ferguson's Cowboys, right he was second year guy?
- 15:29Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, sticking with Muskrave. Then, uh.
- 15:32Speaker 4: When when you're getting a rookie tight end, they don't
- 15:33Speaker 4: typically work out. But what I like about Musgrave is,
- 15:36Speaker 4: unlike a lot of other tight ends, he's just playing receiver.
- 15:38Speaker 4: He doesn't have to learn the blocking half of the
- 15:39Speaker 4: of the of the offense. And I like guys much
- 15:42Speaker 4: like a Dalton Kincaid. We're gonna be split out and
- 15:44Speaker 4: are going to be running routes. And if you look
- 15:46Speaker 4: at the Green Bay offense, I mean it's an entirely new,
- 15:49Speaker 4: young offense. There's not a lot of established guys. You
- 15:51Speaker 4: got Christian Watson, Romeo Dobbs, and you got Musgrave. So
- 15:55Speaker 4: if you're gonna take a shot, if you believe in
- 15:56Speaker 4: Jordan Love, who's looked great this offseason, offseason and in
- 15:59Speaker 4: the preseason, uh, Musgrave is a guy who could kind
- 16:01Speaker 4: of sneaky start his rookie year hot, kind of like
- 16:04Speaker 4: a Pat Friar move.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Okay, who you got rookie?
- 16:07Speaker 3: He got your eyes.
- 16:08Speaker 6: Oh man, there's so many of them. I could just
- 16:09Speaker 6: go down the list. I'm going to shout out a
- 16:12Speaker 6: guy who's kind of gotten. People are not super excited
- 16:15Speaker 6: about him based on what happened in preseason Week one,
- 16:18Speaker 6: and that's Devon a Chain for the Dolphins because he
- 16:21Speaker 6: was playing he was like fourth or fifth on the
- 16:24Speaker 6: depth chart. In this game, he's playing into the fourth quarter.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Typically these are not great signs for rookie running backs.
- 16:29Speaker 6: But I will say, if you watch the games like
- 16:32Speaker 6: I did, like here a huge sicco and you watch
- 16:35Speaker 6: that game, he was running vertical routes. He caught four
- 16:39Speaker 6: passes for forty one yards. He actually led the Dolphins
- 16:41Speaker 6: in receiving this game. He caught a passed out of
- 16:44Speaker 6: the backfield up the like up the sideline for a
- 16:46Speaker 6: chunk gain. He caught a like a Texas route over
- 16:49Speaker 6: the middle of the field for like a ten yard gain.
- 16:51Speaker 6: He was being used in exactly the type of way
- 16:53Speaker 6: we want him to be used, which is vertical pass
- 16:57Speaker 6: catching role. And obviously, like Miles Gaskin's still there, they
- 17:00Speaker 6: still got Raheem Moster, Jeff Wilson.
- 17:03Speaker 7: He's got some hurdles to clear.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I think they don't have Dalvin Cook, which is a
- 17:06Speaker 1: good sign. They must have liked what they had in house.
- 17:08Speaker 6: I was a little nervous that Dalvin Cook was going
- 17:10Speaker 6: to come in and ruin my dreams. But even though
- 17:12Speaker 6: he was playing with like the fifth stringers into the
- 17:15Speaker 6: fourth quarter, I'm sticking with it. Devon ah Chain midway
- 17:19Speaker 6: through the year, I think he's going to start being
- 17:21Speaker 6: really really useful for them. And again he's being used
- 17:24Speaker 6: in the way that you want him to be used.
- 17:25Speaker 6: Which is as a pass catcher except Colladega speed baby,
- 17:28Speaker 6: So I just yeah, hot, nasty, badass speed and that's
- 17:33Speaker 6: what he's got.
- 17:33Speaker 7: So I just love this offense too.
- 17:35Speaker 1: It sounds so good coming out of your mouth, Danny,
- 17:37Speaker 1: what about you, my friend?
- 17:38Speaker 5: There's a rookie. I really love Jordan Addison, the rookie
- 17:42Speaker 5: receiver for the Vikings. I think that he has not
- 17:45Speaker 5: been going as high. He's basically like a top one
- 17:48Speaker 5: hundred player depending where you look, depending on the platform
- 17:50Speaker 5: or website, use eightieth, one hundredth, one hundred and fifth,
- 17:54Speaker 5: seventy fifth. It's a huge range. But I think he's
- 17:56Speaker 5: really underrated because I think as a pure regular NFL
- 18:00Speaker 5: prospect he's undersized. I get all that he's he's not
- 18:03Speaker 5: a prototypical number one receiver. I think think he's being
- 18:06Speaker 5: unfairly dinged for that in fantasy because Jordan Adison is
- 18:10Speaker 5: the perfect compliment to Justin Jefferson. It reminds me a
- 18:14Speaker 5: little bit of when Juju Smith Schuster had an incredible
- 18:19Speaker 5: rookie season behind Antonio Brown Calvin Ridley. I remember Julio
- 18:23Speaker 5: Jones was incredible for the Falcons, but he couldn't score touchdowns.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Calvin really comes in as a Rooie as like five
- 18:27Speaker 5: touchdowns in like five games by Julio Jones. I feel
- 18:30Speaker 5: that Jordan Addison will have that type of impact disproportionate
- 18:34Speaker 5: to his skill level because he's refined, he's a precise
- 18:37Speaker 5: route runner, He's polished in a way that makes up
- 18:40Speaker 5: for his lack of physical gifts. That will basically pay
- 18:42Speaker 5: dividends immediately, and I think he's gonna soak. I mean,
- 18:46Speaker 5: Adam Thielen, no offense to the guy was a little
- 18:48Speaker 5: dusty last year, and I think Addison's going to come
- 18:51Speaker 5: in and just vacuum up behind Justin Jefferson. It's kind
- 18:54Speaker 5: of no, it's it's just an incredibly massive opportunity to
- 18:59Speaker 5: be around this guy. He's always doubled and I think
- 19:00Speaker 5: he's gonna just eat.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It's built for him.
- 19:03Speaker 7: Did you see his catch the other day?
- 19:06Speaker 6: He had like a touch catch. They didn't even review it.
- 19:11Speaker 6: They called him out, they didn't even review it, but
- 19:13Speaker 6: he made the most incredible catch that just it's the preseason.
- 19:16Speaker 6: That doesn't counts, it doesn't matter, but whatever it was,
- 19:18Speaker 6: it was an amazing catch.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Speaking of preseason, you ask how being a fantasy expert works.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Here's how it works, college statistics, preseason plays. If they
- 19:27Speaker 5: confirm what you already believe, they're very important and representative.
- 19:31Speaker 5: And if they don't, if they go against what you
- 19:33Speaker 5: already think, then they're meaningless. And Jordan Adison had sixteen
- 19:36Speaker 5: hundred yards in college two years ago and won the
- 19:39Speaker 5: Best Receiver in College Football award and then had that catch.
- 19:42Speaker 5: So there, I must already be right.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna give all the Zay Flowers might be the
- 19:47Speaker 1: best wide receiver out of this bunch. It might do it.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I don't know if he gonna put up the best numbers,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and I don't know how this helps for fantasy. What
- 19:52Speaker 1: I'm learning from Zay Flowers is that he's unguardable because
- 19:55Speaker 1: of his footwork and speed, and he might just be
- 19:57Speaker 1: drawing a lot of pass interference calls. Honestly, that's what
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm telling. So, like, if you're expecting one hundred catches,
- 20:02Speaker 1: that might not be it, but he will be a
- 20:04Speaker 1: huge function of the Ravens offense. And I think I
- 20:06Speaker 1: see a lot of people drafting him really high. I
- 20:08Speaker 1: don't know if his numbers are going to be high.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I just know he's going to be a pain in
- 20:11Speaker 1: the ass to cover. And that's like one of those
- 20:13Speaker 1: things in fantasy where here's the arbitrage where yes, he
- 20:16Speaker 1: might be our offensive rookie of the year, but no,
- 20:18Speaker 1: his numbers might not be as crazy as Justin Jeffersons
- 20:21Speaker 1: or Jamar Chase's.
- 20:23Speaker 7: I like that one too. He's so good.
- 20:25Speaker 6: There's a reason a lot of people were comparing him
- 20:27Speaker 6: to like Antonio Brown when you're when you're watching the tape,
- 20:29Speaker 6: like his feet are so fast, his route running so
- 20:33Speaker 6: sudden and twitchy. I agree with you, though, like I
- 20:36Speaker 6: don't know exactly what his role is going to be
- 20:37Speaker 6: like in that Ravens offense. We don't even know what
- 20:40Speaker 6: this Raven's offense is really don't know what it looks
- 20:42Speaker 6: like at all. So there's there's a lot of variants
- 20:44Speaker 6: put potential there. But yeah, he's a really good player,
- 20:47Speaker 6: all right.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Strategy wise, say I'm doing my fantasy draft. I know
- 20:51Speaker 1: which players are good, but every year it's different. Some
- 20:54Speaker 1: year it's like you have to get those two running
- 20:55Speaker 1: backs early because there's a big drop off. Some years
- 20:58Speaker 1: it's you need the wide receiver one because after the
- 21:01Speaker 1: first few of them it's a drop off. Craig, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: know you've been studying the grids and the cheat sheets.
- 21:07Speaker 1: What's the strategy this year is in the first round,
- 21:09Speaker 1: is it important to get what? And when you do
- 21:12Speaker 1: that snake draft? What are you trying to come out
- 21:14Speaker 1: of here? Because I know there's a drop off at
- 21:15Speaker 1: each position at some point.
- 21:17Speaker 4: So if you're playing in a league with one quarterback,
- 21:19Speaker 4: what we kind of like to do this year is
- 21:22Speaker 4: basically get an elite player from every single position group.
- 21:25Speaker 4: This year is a really unique year because running backs
- 21:27Speaker 4: are kind of going late, quarterbacks are hotter than ever,
- 21:30Speaker 4: and then you have Travis Kelcey, who's just miles away
- 21:33Speaker 4: from every other tight end. So we kind of suggest
- 21:35Speaker 4: is get one from each position. Start your draft with
- 21:37Speaker 4: the Travis kelce then move on get an elite running
- 21:40Speaker 4: back like a Dereck Henry. Third round, you can get
- 21:42Speaker 4: yourself an elite quarterback like Jalen Hurts or Patrick Mahomes,
- 21:45Speaker 4: and then you can still get a great receiver. If
- 21:47Speaker 4: you can start your draft with four players four different positions,
- 21:49Speaker 4: like a DeAndre Hopkins DKs guy. You could start your
- 21:52Speaker 4: draft with Travis Kelcey, Dereck Henry Patrick, Mahomes, and DeAndre Hopkins.
- 21:57Speaker 4: You get four Hall of Famers in four rounds, as
- 21:59Speaker 4: long as you're not an age bias guy like all
- 22:01Speaker 4: those out there. But I kind of like mixing it
- 22:03Speaker 4: up spreading the wealth this year specifically, can't you agree?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Oh?
- 22:07Speaker 7: Yeah, totally. I really like this year's second round running backs.
- 22:11Speaker 6: So I personally believe grabbing a guy like Kelsey or
- 22:14Speaker 6: one of the elite receivers in round one and then
- 22:16Speaker 6: getting a Pollard or Josh Jacobs in round two. I
- 22:18Speaker 6: think Jacobs has fallen because there's some uncertainty about whether
- 22:21Speaker 6: he's going to play.
- 22:23Speaker 7: I think at the end of the day he's probably
- 22:24Speaker 7: gonna play.
- 22:24Speaker 3: It'll be that so I think.
- 22:26Speaker 7: But Tony Pollard to me, is.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Like my favorite second round pick right now. I just
- 22:29Speaker 6: think he has through the roof potential. He's such a
- 22:32Speaker 6: good player, so explosive, and they're gonna use him in
- 22:35Speaker 6: the right way. He was already, you know, such an
- 22:38Speaker 6: elite producer last year when they had Zeken tout, and
- 22:41Speaker 6: now it's his his offense and his his backfield. So
- 22:44Speaker 6: to me, Tony Pollard is sort of a lynchpin guy
- 22:46Speaker 6: that I just really like in that second round.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So in the second round, Danny, what about you?
- 22:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I agree with Danny Kelly where it's
- 22:52Speaker 5: kind of flipped. I feel like you used to take
- 22:53Speaker 5: your top running back in the first round and then
- 22:55Speaker 5: you get a great receiver in the second. Now it's
- 22:57Speaker 5: basically you can pretty much get an elite receiver in
- 22:59Speaker 5: the first round. You come back around Tony Pollard, Josh Jacobs,
- 23:02Speaker 5: Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, baby Sake one those guys used
- 23:04Speaker 5: to go in the first It's kind of like the
- 23:06Speaker 5: top twenty top twenty four, but now just the receivers
- 23:09Speaker 5: and running backs have flipped spots. That's like the simplest
- 23:11Speaker 5: way to explain it.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Because everybody realized that wide receivers exactly. You know, running
- 23:15Speaker 4: backs get hurt all the time, and you can you know,
- 23:17Speaker 4: you can depend right time. Justin Jefferson, your Tyree Kills,
- 23:20Speaker 4: your Jamar Chase is like, if you if you don't
- 23:22Speaker 4: want to lose your draft in the first round, you
- 23:24Speaker 4: take a wide receiver because you know, by the end
- 23:25Speaker 4: of the year, odds are one of the guys you
- 23:27Speaker 4: draft in the top five is probably gonna finish in
- 23:28Speaker 4: the top five.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yeah. And what about quarterbacks. I know you said that
- 23:31Speaker 1: you want elite, Like, is it crazy to take Josh
- 23:34Speaker 1: Allen or Jalen Hurts in the first round this year?
- 23:37Speaker 5: First? Yeah, second, first round. We start our rank you
- 23:41Speaker 5: have Fantasy Football doc threear dot com. We have our rankings.
- 23:43Speaker 5: We have a top two hundred of upsides downsts for
- 23:45Speaker 5: every player.
- 23:46Speaker 7: Uh.
- 23:47Speaker 5: And the bottom line and all these guys basically is
- 23:49Speaker 5: we have our quarterbacks right around the third round. Basically
- 23:51Speaker 5: we've got basically a couple dozen truly special players. It's
- 23:55Speaker 5: Travis Kelcey and a bunch of running backs, receivers, and
- 23:57Speaker 5: then at that point, as Craig said, locking those quarterbacks
- 24:01Speaker 5: where you're basically getting an elite floor. Jalen Hurts eighteen
- 24:05Speaker 5: rushing touchdowns in eighteen games last year, included the playoffs.
- 24:08Speaker 5: The floor, not just the ceiling, is crazy. Josh Allen
- 24:11Speaker 5: the running you know, he could lead the league in
- 24:13Speaker 5: rushing touchdowns or receiving or passing touchdowns. And Mahomes is
- 24:16Speaker 5: Mahomes And I think that at that point, elite floors
- 24:19Speaker 5: in the first few rounds, and then after that you're
- 24:21Speaker 5: chasing elite ceilings. So if you miss out on Mahomes, Hurts, Allen,
- 24:26Speaker 5: Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson in this new offense is an
- 24:29Speaker 5: elite ceiling. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert. Those guys have truly
- 24:32Speaker 5: elite potential. And I think that if you're stacking that
- 24:34Speaker 5: at quarterback, Darren Waller has an elite ceiling at tight end,
- 24:38Speaker 5: and I think that's you know, Scott Barrett has done
- 24:40Speaker 5: great stuff at a great website called Fantasy Points, where
- 24:42Speaker 5: elite ceilings win you your league, they win weeks, they win leagues.
- 24:45Speaker 5: And I think elite floors in the first three rounds
- 24:48Speaker 5: and then next making up where you didn't get it
- 24:51Speaker 5: with elite ceilings.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Where are you guys at d Kale started? Where are
- 24:55Speaker 1: you guys at with Kyle Pitts? I think everyone took
- 24:56Speaker 1: him in the first round or second round last year
- 24:58Speaker 1: and now like it's almost like, yeah, you wouldn't be
- 25:00Speaker 1: able to touch them, you know, it's like how could you?
- 25:03Speaker 6: I think at least for Craig and I think we
- 25:06Speaker 6: kind of hate him at this point, like nothing that
- 25:08Speaker 6: he's actually done personally that is his fault.
- 25:11Speaker 3: It's just is.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Someone else's problem. You have them.
- 25:13Speaker 7: I don't exactly. I'm just like washing my hands of
- 25:16Speaker 7: that toxic.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Relationship that I don't want to be a part of it.
- 25:19Speaker 6: I just don't want to have to deal. I don't
- 25:20Speaker 6: want to have to think about him anymore. He might
- 25:22Speaker 6: be the best tight end in the NFL.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Gotch Like I hope it for him, I don't.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's one of the best, one of
- 25:30Speaker 5: the best parts.
- 25:31Speaker 6: I'm unfriend I'm like unfriending him on Facebook so I
- 25:34Speaker 6: don't have to look at his feet.
- 25:35Speaker 5: You know this is like, yeah, you mentioned Facebook, I
- 25:37Speaker 5: got it. You know well, I think one of the
- 25:39Speaker 5: best most charming aspects of our, of the three of
- 25:41Speaker 5: us dynamic, is that DK, in his older wisdom, now
- 25:44Speaker 5: that he's in his forties, doesn't have the energy, doesn't
- 25:47Speaker 5: allow toxic people in his life, and doesn't Michael Thomas.
- 25:51Speaker 5: You know, Kyle fits people who just are kind of
- 25:54Speaker 5: a drain on your energy. DK, just like I don't,
- 25:56Speaker 5: I can't. I don't time for you anymore.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, quickly, I'm gonna go around you guys,
- 26:04Speaker 1: tell me yay or na. I'm gonna mention some things
- 26:06Speaker 1: about fantasy football. I'm gonna put you on the spot
- 26:09Speaker 1: Craig will start with you auction draft yay or nay? Yay,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you gotta do it, explain, make the case for why
- 26:17Speaker 1: someone should just scrap the old snake draft. That takes
- 26:20Speaker 1: one minute and is you know, easy enough to do
- 26:22Speaker 1: to go to the auction thing which seems unbearable.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Let's say Justin Jefferson's your favorite player in fantasy football,
- 26:28Speaker 4: and then you're eagerly awaiting what draft pick you're going
- 26:30Speaker 4: to get. You're praying you get the first or second pick,
- 26:32Speaker 4: and then the hat, the name gets drawn out of
- 26:34Speaker 4: the hat and you have the tenth that terrible feeling
- 26:36Speaker 4: of well, I guess I want to have Justin Jefferson
- 26:38Speaker 4: this year. That doesn't happen. In an auction draft. You
- 26:40Speaker 4: can spend your money on any player you want. You
- 26:41Speaker 4: can get Justin Jefferson and Christian mcaffor you want. It's
- 26:44Speaker 4: a lot more flexibility every single every single pick you
- 26:47Speaker 4: are involved in.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I love it, okay, DK.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Individual defensive players are we yay or nay?
- 26:55Speaker 7: I've been a nay on that one.
- 26:57Speaker 6: I just it's hard enough, like keeping track of all
- 27:00Speaker 6: offensive players.
- 27:01Speaker 7: I don't know, like adding all that.
- 27:02Speaker 6: To to the to the plate is a bit much
- 27:04Speaker 6: for me. I just I don't track it enough and
- 27:06Speaker 6: I've ever really done it. I'm an old I'm an
- 27:08Speaker 6: old guy. Can't teach me new tricks.
- 27:09Speaker 7: I don't really know.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I'm not into Danny.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Two quarterback leagues where there's two quarterbacks starting in yay.
- 27:14Speaker 5: Or nay, I'm totally in. At the end of the day,
- 27:17Speaker 5: It's very, very silly to me that in real life
- 27:20Speaker 5: running backs can't get paid, and like, you know, Jonathan
- 27:23Speaker 5: Taylor isn't getting a contract, Will Jim er Say's trying
- 27:25Speaker 5: to fly in Orca to see world for twenty million dollars.
- 27:27Speaker 5: But in fantasy we have running back like ten twelve
- 27:30Speaker 5: running backs come off the board for Patrick Mahomes And
- 27:32Speaker 5: at two quarterback league, you know the first Pixar Patrick Mahomes,
- 27:35Speaker 5: Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts. That's real life. So I like
- 27:37Speaker 5: two quarterback leagues.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I love that. Craig ten team leagues, Yeah or nay.
- 27:43Speaker 1: It seems very light.
- 27:45Speaker 4: That's as light as well go. Eight is ridiculous. Ten
- 27:48Speaker 4: is where I draw the line. Ten is okay, twelve
- 27:50Speaker 4: is ideal, fourteen is fine, sixteen is too.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Big, okay, DK non PPR leagues where we don't keep
- 27:58Speaker 1: track of receptions.
- 28:00Speaker 3: We just do yards.
- 28:02Speaker 6: Strongly against Yeah, archaics totally here.
- 28:08Speaker 3: All right, if you're into that, I hate.
- 28:10Speaker 5: You, Danny.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you one that my league that is
- 28:13Speaker 1: a bit of part of for twenty three years. We
- 28:15Speaker 1: don't do flex. We don't believe in it. We think
- 28:17Speaker 1: it's silly. There's no such thing flex, Danny hiex flex position,
- 28:21Speaker 1: which seems like such a bailout. Yeah, r nay.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I love no flex.
- 28:25Speaker 3: We leading the witness.
- 28:27Speaker 1: What is flex?
- 28:29Speaker 6: I love it.
- 28:29Speaker 5: It's the dumbest This is a great take. It's like,
- 28:33Speaker 5: be decisive. Who are you?
- 28:34Speaker 3: Never know what flex would be good for?
- 28:36Speaker 5: Flex should be like the four players who are like
- 28:38Speaker 5: quarter old Patterson can plain in the flex. That's it.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Sure, the actual.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Patterson, Taysom Hill, and Jamier Gibbs can be flex. I
- 28:47Speaker 1: hate the flex. I never heard of the flex until
- 28:50Speaker 1: like I came on a Good Morning Football and I
- 28:51Speaker 1: come on hearing the word flex. But what the heck
- 28:53Speaker 1: is flex? They're like, well, it could be any position.
- 28:55Speaker 1: It's take a wildcard, Like, well, that's not real. It's
- 28:58Speaker 1: the dumbest thing.
- 28:59Speaker 7: I love this flex, all right.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Team defenses counting, Craig, Yeah, your nay, I go back
- 29:05Speaker 1: and forth.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I'm fine with it.
- 29:07Speaker 4: I prefer a team defense over a kicker, So if
- 29:09Speaker 4: I had to choose, I'd take the defense.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Fun the route for a defense, Okay, DK, I'll ask
- 29:14Speaker 1: you counting every little thing, like a two point conversion
- 29:17Speaker 1: has a metric, or a batted down pass has a metric.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Like at some point there's got to be a limited the.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Forty yard completion bones, Yes, I hate that.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yes, sorry, I'm judging.
- 29:28Speaker 7: I was going to bring that up.
- 29:29Speaker 6: No, I was gonna say the like you get a
- 29:31Speaker 6: bonus for having one hundred yards. This is I've played
- 29:34Speaker 6: in a few leagues where like a running back, if you.
- 29:35Speaker 7: Gets one hundred yards gets a bonus. I think there's a.
- 29:38Speaker 6: Time and a place for it for my home league,
- 29:40Speaker 6: for like most of my leagues, I don't really want that.
- 29:42Speaker 6: I do think it's fun to like sprinkle that in
- 29:44Speaker 6: every once in a while if you're like in a
- 29:45Speaker 6: tournament or something like that. But generally speaking, I like
- 29:49Speaker 6: pretty standard scoring setting that DK.
- 29:52Speaker 4: How many of your twenty three leagues are do you
- 29:54Speaker 4: use the one hundred yard.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Bonus probably none, right now, Okay, I would say I'm
- 30:00Speaker 6: open to it in like one or two leagues, just
- 30:02Speaker 6: because to.
- 30:03Speaker 7: Mix it up and make it fun.
- 30:04Speaker 1: All right, DK, I'm gonna go back on that one
- 30:07Speaker 1: with you. I just heard twenty three leagues. I know
- 30:09Speaker 1: it's being sarcastic.
- 30:11Speaker 5: He actually is in twenty three weeks.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Actually he's in twenty two.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Pandemics like Sanity Project was just drafting Dynasty Fantasy not fun.
- 30:19Speaker 1: It's not fun.
- 30:21Speaker 5: It's fully talking about it.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Fun about that, And the whole point of it is
- 30:25Speaker 1: you have a player in the league I found, and
- 30:28Speaker 1: you're rooting against every player in the league.
- 30:30Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean I have so many I have
- 30:32Speaker 6: so many players on my teams that I'm like.
- 30:34Speaker 1: But in your head, which team is which? I feel
- 30:36Speaker 1: like I wouldn't know who to root for.
- 30:39Speaker 6: No, So you just I will say, here's the qualifier.
- 30:42Speaker 6: Here's the qualifier. Ninety five for cent of my teams
- 30:45Speaker 6: are dynasty leagues. So it's not day to day stuff
- 30:49Speaker 6: that you're doing. There's not a bunch of guys in
- 30:50Speaker 6: the waiver wire. Typically it's like you draft a team
- 30:53Speaker 6: and you develop it over years, but you're not It's
- 30:55Speaker 6: not like I'm spending a lot of time on this roster.
- 30:58Speaker 7: Can I day out you know what I mean?
- 30:59Speaker 4: Can I unveil a hot take on you guys right now?
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yes?
- 31:03Speaker 3: I'm out on dynasty leagues? Me too, Boom.
- 31:07Speaker 4: You know what the best part about fantasy football is
- 31:09Speaker 4: the draft.
- 31:10Speaker 6: Craig, You're in my dynasty league and time on it.
- 31:13Speaker 3: He's playing it.
- 31:14Speaker 1: He doesn't like it.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Oh cool?
- 31:16Speaker 4: I get to draft a fourth round run with you.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I get this question all the time. Should I keep
- 31:21Speaker 1: two out of these seven players? I don't know? Draft
- 31:23Speaker 1: a new team. I don't like it.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Draft a new team.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I don't want to be parsing through six round rookies
- 31:28Speaker 4: to figure out who has value.
- 31:29Speaker 3: That sounds terrible. You know. I want to draft Patrick Mahomes.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you.
- 31:33Speaker 3: That's fun, Danny, Danny high Fetz.
- 31:37Speaker 1: People who draft in person versus people who draft online,
- 31:42Speaker 1: and the rift there of the arrogance and I'm an
- 31:44Speaker 1: on person guy, of those who roll their eyes at
- 31:46Speaker 1: those who are in a Yahoo Yahoo draft room and
- 31:48Speaker 1: consider that a fantasy league go on?
- 31:50Speaker 7: All right?
- 31:51Speaker 5: So this is this gets to what we were saying
- 31:53Speaker 5: earlier about like fantasy football is about keeping in touch
- 31:56Speaker 5: with your friends people different places. Obviously can't control that.
- 31:59Speaker 5: You always want to draft in person if you can.
- 32:01Speaker 5: If it's your friend group, you want to be in person.
- 32:04Speaker 5: It's incredible. At the very least, though, you have to
- 32:05Speaker 5: show up for the dre You can't auto draft. Got
- 32:08Speaker 5: auto draft? Is it? Look? If you have children, you
- 32:11Speaker 5: too understand. It's better than me. We can talk wedding.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Otherwise it's weddings and funerals. Or you better be there,
- 32:17Speaker 5: even even.
- 32:18Speaker 1: If it's on zoom. That's okay. You just can't auto draft.
- 32:21Speaker 1: That's unaccepted. It's un America, I think.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Correct.
- 32:23Speaker 1: No, the hardest part of any league, and you know
- 32:27Speaker 1: now we're just going off because I got so many thoughts.
- 32:29Speaker 1: The hardest part of any any league is finding a
- 32:32Speaker 1: draft time that works for everyone. If you get one
- 32:35Speaker 1: of those Google doodles going and everyone you come up
- 32:37Speaker 1: with one time, I don't care if it's five o'clock
- 32:39Speaker 1: on a Wednesday, you better not the day of say
- 32:42Speaker 1: I just can't make it. That's unacceptable.
- 32:44Speaker 5: You're out.
- 32:44Speaker 1: You're out. We will find a replacement.
- 32:46Speaker 4: The two people can also pay your league dues before
- 32:49Speaker 4: the draft. If you're a commissioner of a league, require
- 32:51Speaker 4: everyone to pay their league dues or they can not trist.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Is that a thing people pay the league? Do you
- 32:55Speaker 1: get to chase them down for the for the vendors.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I gotta go hire like a fixer. I gotta
- 33:00Speaker 4: go hire Ray Donovan to go get the money from
- 33:01Speaker 4: this guy.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there's always one of them.
- 33:05Speaker 5: There are two people I hate in a fantasy league.
- 33:08Speaker 5: I feel like Austin Powers and I'm like, there's two
- 33:10Speaker 5: kinds of people I hate in this world. Yeah, but
- 33:12Speaker 5: what the people who don't fill out that doodle, as
- 33:15Speaker 5: you were saying, and then at the end, once like
- 33:17Speaker 5: nine people can make it, you're like, oh, that day
- 33:19Speaker 5: doesn't work for me. My mother's visiting, And I'm like, dude,
- 33:22Speaker 5: that's what we made the doodle for. The Other one
- 33:24Speaker 5: is the people who think that they get to veto
- 33:27Speaker 5: other people's trades just grinds my gears. Like in real life,
- 33:31Speaker 5: where I don't know if you've noticed, there's a lot
- 33:33Speaker 5: more stakes to the real life sports leagues. There's been
- 33:36Speaker 5: one vetoed trade in our lifetime, and it was the
- 33:39Speaker 5: Chris Paul trade because the NBA owned the league. Office
- 33:42Speaker 5: owned the team and they were like, all right, this
- 33:44Speaker 5: is weird. Literally, like thousands of real life trades have
- 33:47Speaker 5: been made. They all go through this is America. You
- 33:50Speaker 5: have the right to be stupid and make dumb decisions.
- 33:52Speaker 5: It's not your job to run other people's stuff it.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I love it real quick. There's a whole craze in
- 33:58Speaker 1: the last ten years of like punishments and making it
- 34:01Speaker 1: go viral. And this guy ate a waffle every day,
- 34:04Speaker 1: every hour for twenty four hours. This guy I had
- 34:06Speaker 1: to poop in a sandwich and eat it and we
- 34:08Speaker 1: all laughed and we put it on YouTube too. Sophomore
- 34:12Speaker 1: silly or you guys all for this craig, We'll start with.
- 34:15Speaker 4: You if you're coming to me.
- 34:17Speaker 3: It's definitely not too sophomore. I don't know how other
- 34:21Speaker 3: people feel, but I'm all for it.
- 34:23Speaker 4: In our league right now, are the current rule is
- 34:25Speaker 4: we have the loser on the trip next year. He's
- 34:28Speaker 4: our butler and he has to wear a outfit hell
- 34:32Speaker 4: the whole weekend. He like serves us food and he
- 34:35Speaker 4: gets the worst bed. And I'm all for it, you know.
- 34:38Speaker 4: And we've actually employed a last place tournament at the
- 34:40Speaker 4: end of the year for all the guys whose teams
- 34:42Speaker 4: suck in like weeks twelve through seventeen, we have a
- 34:44Speaker 4: last place tournament to determine who gets last. So I
- 34:47Speaker 4: think last place is just as fun and as first
- 34:49Speaker 4: place in terms of end of year suspense.
- 34:52Speaker 1: DK, what's the craziest thing you've heard in that regard?
- 34:55Speaker 1: I mean they come up every year, they're more and more.
- 34:58Speaker 6: Man there's I had a couple of friends who under
- 35:02Speaker 6: their leagues, they're like punishment for last place was yet
- 35:06Speaker 6: the to go like be a busker on like a
- 35:08Speaker 6: sidewalk and like play music and and try and get
- 35:12Speaker 6: tips and things like like what's a busker is like
- 35:16Speaker 6: when you're like you're on the corner, like playing like
- 35:18Speaker 6: music and like try to make.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Money that way. The open guitar, I want to.
- 35:27Speaker 6: I want to tell you one great I want to
- 35:29Speaker 6: tell you one great rule that we have in in
- 35:30Speaker 6: one of my leagues is if you get a zero
- 35:33Speaker 6: in any of your spots in any given week, you
- 35:37Speaker 6: like a player.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Like a guy got to help change your lineup?
- 35:41Speaker 6: Yeah, goose egg. Yeah you have to shot. You have
- 35:44Speaker 6: to record yourself shotgunning a beer and send it to
- 35:47Speaker 6: the rest of the league, and that I think is
- 35:49Speaker 6: one of the more fun rules.
- 35:50Speaker 7: That I have in any of my links.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Like it, Danny yourself, the craziest thing you've.
- 35:55Speaker 5: Heard, there's some I mean the craziest stuff is there
- 35:57Speaker 5: are people who there are leagues that you have to
- 35:59Speaker 5: get it to too. I mean, that's crazy that. That
- 36:01Speaker 5: to me is the wildest, the wildest one we do.
- 36:03Speaker 5: The one that I think works the best, and even
- 36:06Speaker 5: as you get is our league gets a beer mile
- 36:08Speaker 5: because we Thanksgiving, there's always a We do a flag
- 36:11Speaker 5: football game on Black Friday. And it's funny because as
- 36:14Speaker 5: everyone gets older, the game gets earlier and people show
- 36:16Speaker 5: up with more knee braces and everyone's stretching more and
- 36:18Speaker 5: more of a year. But then at the end, thy brother, yes, wait,
- 36:21Speaker 5: at the end of the game, though, we do the
- 36:23Speaker 5: beer mile, which is great because there's like me who's
- 36:25Speaker 5: not the most fleet to foot, but I can drink
- 36:27Speaker 5: a beer versus like this guy who ran a four
- 36:29Speaker 5: and a half minute mile in college but like can't
- 36:31Speaker 5: chug and like, all right, this is actually even now.
- 36:34Speaker 1: That's good.
- 36:35Speaker 3: I like that.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Craig correct me if I'm wrong. Bill Simmons is league
- 36:38Speaker 1: and they always talk about the Shakey's League. Yeah, the
- 36:43Speaker 1: winner gets to vote off any person in the league
- 36:46Speaker 1: and they have to miss a year. Right, I think
- 36:47Speaker 1: that's pretty drastic.
- 36:49Speaker 5: This is the funniest one.
- 36:50Speaker 4: Yes, so it's a twelve it's a twelve team league,
- 36:52Speaker 4: but there's but there's thirteen members and every year, thirteen
- 36:56Speaker 4: people have to show up to the draft and the
- 36:58Speaker 4: previous year's winner then sits down like a dictator and
- 37:01Speaker 4: goes you you're out, and they have to get up
- 37:04Speaker 4: and leave the draft.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I'm not kidding. I guess it was during the pandemic
- 37:07Speaker 1: and I was listening to Simmons a lot, like twenty
- 37:09Speaker 1: twenty maybe twenty twenty one, and I think there was
- 37:12Speaker 1: real friction between him and Sal over it. It felt like,
- 37:14Speaker 1: oh there was salout and Sal was very angry.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Bill.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Well, when Bill got voted out one year, he started
- 37:21Speaker 4: a new league.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Bill was.
- 37:27Speaker 5: I'm not just saying this because you know, we worked
- 37:29Speaker 5: for Bill Simmons. I think I actually think Sal must
- 37:32Speaker 5: have come up with that. I think that is the
- 37:34Speaker 5: that is the rule that I actually think it is
- 37:36Speaker 5: the best. It is incredible, it's.
- 37:38Speaker 1: So good, and they, yeah, that's great. All right, guys,
- 37:41Speaker 1: we're wrapping. Uh, fantasy football is on the way. Where
- 37:46Speaker 1: can we find the podcast? And what is it called?
- 37:49Speaker 1: Craig for everyone who listens to this one and wants
- 37:51Speaker 1: their hardcore football news but had a draft this weekend
- 37:53Speaker 1: and is like, wait a second, my pants are not
- 37:55Speaker 1: ready for this. I need to get ready. Where would
- 37:58Speaker 1: you go for it?
- 37:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 37:59Speaker 4: Sure, the show is called The Ringer Fantasy Football Show.
- 38:01Speaker 4: It's anywhere you can find podcast. We prefer Spotify. There's
- 38:04Speaker 4: a lot of fun features on there. You can look
- 38:07Speaker 4: at our guide while you listen. But yeah, The Ringer
- 38:09Speaker 4: Fantasy Football Show with us three three days a week
- 38:11Speaker 4: and four days a week during the season.
- 38:13Speaker 1: I wish you guys well for Danny Hifetz, Danny Kelly,
- 38:16Speaker 1: Craig horlback, guys, this is awesome. We really appreciate you
- 38:18Speaker 1: coming on. This is great.
- 38:19Speaker 7: Thanks Pete, love you, Shregs.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Thanks for having us.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I love those guys. I think they're cool, they're funny,
- 38:24Speaker 1: and they've got a great friendship that you can tell.
- 38:26Speaker 1: And that's the key to any show or podcast, And
- 38:29Speaker 1: obviously fantasy football is the thread that keeps them all
- 38:32Speaker 1: together and going with the pod. But Their podcast talks
- 38:34Speaker 1: about all different sorts of topics, including movies. Aaron, I'm
- 38:38Speaker 1: going to tell you in nineteen ninety nine, I was
- 38:44Speaker 1: in a fantasy football league with my friends from high
- 38:47Speaker 1: school at the time, and I signed after week one
- 38:51Speaker 1: a gentleman named Kurt Warner, and I went on to
- 38:56Speaker 1: have a team that had Kurt Warner. Isaac Bruce, I
- 38:59Speaker 1: think I had Terrell Owens on that team. And I
- 39:02Speaker 1: tore up my fantasy league and ran away with a victory.
- 39:06Speaker 1: And I will tell you that is still one of
- 39:09Speaker 1: my greatest achievements, the amount of points that my team
- 39:12Speaker 1: won by in the East Coast Stream Team league back
- 39:15Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine with all my buddies from Freehill
- 39:17Speaker 1: Township High School. That is the importance of fantasy football.
- 39:22Speaker 1: It brings you back to nineteen ninety nine and we're
- 39:24Speaker 1: here in twenty twenty three. That's me. Do you have
- 39:28Speaker 1: a fantasy league, Aaron. Wan Kaufman, my producer who I know,
- 39:31Speaker 1: has a lot of interest and it's very eclectic. Does
- 39:33Speaker 1: fantasy football fill in the ven diagram shaded area of
- 39:37Speaker 1: you and me?
- 39:38Speaker 2: Yeah, very much so. I actually got into fantasy same
- 39:42Speaker 2: thing with a bunch of friends from high school, middle school.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Then also like the same year when I was starting,
- 39:48Speaker 2: that one also started two others.
- 39:50Speaker 1: So I had like three leagues.
- 39:52Speaker 2: In my very first year of playing Fantasy. And my
- 39:57Speaker 2: favorite part, like the guys were saying like you were saying,
- 39:59Speaker 2: is just keeping in touch with friends and like sending emails.
- 40:02Speaker 2: And we have won my league with like the high
- 40:05Speaker 2: school school friends, the four of us that are like
- 40:09Speaker 2: the tightest one of the guys has still not won,
- 40:12Speaker 2: even though he's the one who's.
- 40:14Speaker 1: This is like fifteen years you guys have been in
- 40:15Speaker 1: this right.
- 40:16Speaker 2: It is yes, yep, and it is just a I
- 40:19Speaker 2: just I never let him forget it. It's always just
- 40:21Speaker 2: like in the chat, I'm like, oh wait, isn't there
- 40:23Speaker 2: someone here who's never won our league. I forget which
- 40:26Speaker 2: one of us it is.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I do have strong takes, as you could hear, like
- 40:30Speaker 1: I really resent the auto draft thing. I think that's real,
- 40:34Speaker 1: Like if you can't give me two seconds of your time,
- 40:36Speaker 1: then you don't belong in our league. I actually look
- 40:39Speaker 1: in my whole life, I was in one league. I
- 40:42Speaker 1: hate the idea that people don't get together, and I
- 40:44Speaker 1: know that's selfish. And now that I've got a family,
- 40:46Speaker 1: it's nearly impossible, like on the weekend. But like, I
- 40:48Speaker 1: hate these leagues that it's just random people that you
- 40:51Speaker 1: don't know, and Danny said he has. When Danny said
- 40:53Speaker 1: he's in twenty three leagues, I almost wanted to like
- 40:55Speaker 1: chop my hand off. That was the crazy, like that
- 40:57Speaker 1: is not fun. That sounds like hell.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I have decreased the number that I've been in and
- 41:02Speaker 2: especially like the more that I've worked with NFL all stuff,
- 41:07Speaker 2: the less I want to be in those leagues because
- 41:09Speaker 2: it's just it, it is too much to keep track
- 41:11Speaker 2: of and like you were saying, at some point, you
- 41:14Speaker 2: are rooting for every player and against every player, and
- 41:17Speaker 2: it's like I need I need Jonathan Taylor Discord, but
- 41:20Speaker 2: not more than sixteen, but he can't do more than seventeen. Yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 2: it's it's wild. But yeah, the I've been really lucky
- 41:28Speaker 2: that you know, we've had a couple of drafts that
- 41:30Speaker 2: have been in person. But I have I have one
- 41:32Speaker 2: friend who's a doctor and he one time he did
- 41:35Speaker 2: a draft, like hope, so during that run in and out, yeah,
- 41:40Speaker 2: not during surgery, but he was like on call and
- 41:43Speaker 2: would like run in and out of the like doctor
- 41:47Speaker 2: rest area that they have. I don't even know what
- 41:48Speaker 2: it's called, but he was like in the hospital doing
- 41:51Speaker 2: the draft.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I also it's a I think it's like it's like
- 41:55Speaker 1: I don't give a about anyone else's fantasy league either.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Like when someone comes up to me and starts talking
- 42:00Speaker 1: to me about their team, I you, there is nothing
- 42:02Speaker 1: I'd rather talk about mathematics or like the future of algebra.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I don't care. I know it sounds rude. I do
- 42:10Speaker 1: not care, and it's the question I get the most.
- 42:13Speaker 1: If I'm ever recognized on the street or in an airport,
- 42:16Speaker 1: someone will shove their phone in my face and they'll
- 42:18Speaker 1: be like, who would you start this week? And I'm like,
- 42:20Speaker 1: I don't care, don't care, and I'm really rude. Sometimes
- 42:23Speaker 1: on Twitter or someone will be like Shrag's PPR league
- 42:26Speaker 1: twelve teams flex and I just right back, don't care,
- 42:29Speaker 1: don't care. I don't I don't care, And that's my
- 42:32Speaker 1: take on that.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I'll be sure to text you during one of my
- 42:35Speaker 2: drafts and ask you, I mean, tregger, I got I
- 42:37Speaker 2: got a twelve front's sleeper for me here. I do
- 42:41Speaker 2: care about my friend's leagues or my friend's team. If
- 42:44Speaker 2: it's I'm in the league too, then I care because
- 42:47Speaker 2: I wanted to do poor.
- 42:48Speaker 1: The best is when you know you're in a live
- 42:50Speaker 1: draft with your friends and there's one guy, and again
- 42:52Speaker 1: not an advocate of bullying, but there's one guy that
- 42:55Speaker 1: no matter who he takes, everyone will go eh, and
- 42:58Speaker 1: it's like no, no, no, no, no, like it just constantly. Yeah,
- 43:01Speaker 1: that's it, Aaron, Good luck in your fantasy drafts. I
- 43:05Speaker 1: think we time this. I think they're going to be
