- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Every writer talks about wanting success, but what does it actually mean and how do you measure it?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Is it even a worthy goal in the first place to want to be successful?
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Well, those are all valid questions, but they're not the questions we should be asking first.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: The great physicist Albert Einstein gives us some great guidance here.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: He said this try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: He is considered successful in our day, who gets more out of life than he puts in, but a man of value will give more than he receives.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Well, here are three simple ways to add more value to the people around you.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Number one, buy your friends' books and give them away.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Now, obviously, this adds value to your friends because you're supporting their writing, but it also adds value to those receiving the books, which is a cool double win.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Number two, leave reviews for the books that you read.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Every author, no matter how famous or not famous, wants book reviews.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: This is a simple way to give people exactly what they want and to also feel good while doing it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And then number three, make introductions between people who should know each other.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Many introverted writers don't do this because they focus on the work and they forget that their work is all about people.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So make connections between friends and you'll multiply your value.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Remember, success as a writer isn't just about books, it's also about relationships and the people who you serve.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And if you do these things, you'll not only feel a deep sense of joy because you're adding so much value to others, you'll also be a great success by anybody's measure.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
