- 0:05Speaker 1: It's Sunday, August third. The sun is setting here on
- 0:08Speaker 1: the West coast in San Diego. And guess what, everyone,
- 0:12Speaker 1: The MLB trade deadline is behind us, and the next
- 0:15Speaker 1: two months of Cardinals baseball is going to look much
- 0:18Speaker 1: much different. Welcome back to Cardinals territory. I'm your host,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Katie Wu. Let's recap the first post deadline series. The
- 0:24Speaker 1: Cardinals lost today's ubermatch to the San Diego Padres by
- 0:27Speaker 1: a score of seven to three. Audre Polante, I thought,
- 0:30Speaker 1: actually pitched a decent ballgame, two earned runs over five innings,
- 0:33Speaker 1: maneuvered his way through lots of traffic, but did so
- 0:35Speaker 1: with the good pitch mix, generated a considerable amount of
- 0:37Speaker 1: swing and miss. Didn't really think the Padres were picking
- 0:40Speaker 1: up a lot from him. I really think the only
- 0:42Speaker 1: thing that messed him up was the two run homer
- 0:44Speaker 1: by Jay Cronaworth. But let's be honest, it didn't really
- 0:46Speaker 1: matter what Polanta did today. The Cardinals had one hit
- 0:49Speaker 1: through the first eight innings and struck out sixteen times.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Hard to win when you don't hit or score. Here's why,
- 0:55Speaker 1: Matt Cardinals fans and candidly this is a bit of
- 0:58Speaker 1: an adjustment for me as much as it is for you.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think going forward for the remaining forty nine ish
- 1:05Speaker 1: games or so for the rest of the season, we
- 1:08Speaker 1: have to change how we evaluate this team. And this
- 1:10Speaker 1: is not at all to suggest Cardinals fans should lower
- 1:13Speaker 1: their standards when watching this team. I'm actually really against
- 1:16Speaker 1: that argument. But that's a conversation for a different time.
- 1:19Speaker 1: When I say change how we evaluate, here's what I mean.
- 1:22Speaker 1: When you are, whether you're a reporter, a fan, a coach,
- 1:26Speaker 1: a front office person, when you're watching a contending team,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you know exactly what you're looking for. Did a player
- 1:32Speaker 1: execute when he was supposed to, did the bullpen matchup
- 1:36Speaker 1: with the right lane? Did the right reliever get the
- 1:37Speaker 1: right spot? Was the defense in the correct positioning? Was
- 1:40Speaker 1: the right decision major in a bang bang play? Like
- 1:43Speaker 1: I'm not suggesting these things don't matter anymore. Obviously they do.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But when you're evaluating a rebuilding team, because that's what
- 1:50Speaker 1: we are now, that's what we're looking at now, these
- 1:53Speaker 1: things become secondary. What becomes the most important thing. The
- 1:57Speaker 1: top priority for an organization in an evaluation peer like
- 2:00Speaker 1: the Cardinals are in right now, is identifying scenarios and
- 2:04Speaker 1: players that can help you for the future. Here's an
- 2:07Speaker 1: example when we are when we spent a lot of
- 2:11Speaker 1: the first half talking to Oli Marmal about his bullpen usage,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and there would be specific lanes for specific players, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: we all knew it, and we would talk about, Hey,
- 2:20Speaker 1: why did Steven Matts get this lane? Why did Phil
- 2:23Speaker 1: Maton get this lane? Why did Jojo Romero get this lane?
- 2:26Speaker 1: And I thought Olli would do a nice job of
- 2:28Speaker 1: explaining why so much to the point where we pretty
- 2:30Speaker 1: much knew in the first half which reliever was coming in,
- 2:33Speaker 1: because that's how the Cardinals like to use them. Going
- 2:36Speaker 1: forward for August and September, it's going to be natural
- 2:40Speaker 1: to ask why this reliever. It doesn't matter right now.
- 2:46Speaker 1: If Oli Marmal has a decision to make in the
- 2:48Speaker 1: six between Gordon Grosepo and Matt Sphonson and he goes
- 2:51Speaker 1: Gordon Groseppo and Gordon Grocefo gets lit up, I don't
- 2:55Speaker 1: think the appropriate question is why did you go Groseppo Oversponsin.
- 2:58Speaker 1: It's what did you see from Grisefo so here in
- 3:00Speaker 1: this matchup going forward that you'll know whether choose them
- 3:03Speaker 1: in this spot again or whether or not to It's
- 3:05Speaker 1: not a matter of which reliever gets the lane. It's
- 3:08Speaker 1: a matter of what did this reliever do today and
- 3:11Speaker 1: will that help this organization evaluate what his role could
- 3:14Speaker 1: be in the future. The Cardinals are going to win
- 3:16Speaker 1: some games that they easily or I'm sorry, the Cardinals
- 3:19Speaker 1: are going to lose some games that they easily could
- 3:21Speaker 1: have won because of this. It's not great, but that's
- 3:25Speaker 1: the whole point of the next two months. That was
- 3:27Speaker 1: supposed to be the whole point of this season. Actually,
- 3:29Speaker 1: this transition year is now actually becoming a transition season
- 3:33Speaker 1: because the Cardinals have offloaded or their highest leverage relievers.
- 3:37Speaker 1: They're without their starting third basement for a while. We'll
- 3:39Speaker 1: get to that, and they're making an emphasis on playing
- 3:42Speaker 1: the young players every day. That's what this whole season
- 3:44Speaker 1: was supposed to be about, and it wasn't. So that's
- 3:46Speaker 1: what I mean when we change how we evaluate. The
- 3:49Speaker 1: Cardinals had some really poor from a box score perspective
- 3:54Speaker 1: stats today, but in the ninth inning, and I'm not
- 3:57Speaker 1: creating this apology like, oh, you know, participation award thing.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I do think this is important. They get to Adrian Mahone,
- 4:04Speaker 1: Mike Schilf Potter's manager puts him in left a reliever
- 4:07Speaker 1: at seven to nothing. All right, in the ninth. This
- 4:09Speaker 1: team could have easily rolled over and called it, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: call it a serius. They lose the series. Whatever they sold,
- 4:15Speaker 1: it's fine. They didn't do that. Five consecutive hitters reached
- 4:20Speaker 1: against morohone and Mike Schultz had to use his closer
- 4:23Speaker 1: down five. He had to go to Robert Suarez to
- 4:26Speaker 1: finish that game, and those at bats matter. Allie Marmel
- 4:30Speaker 1: described it as a learning curve. This is a learning
- 4:32Speaker 1: curve game. I agree with that. You have a top
- 4:35Speaker 1: of the lineup and Mason win, Evon Herrera. Evon Herrera
- 4:37Speaker 1: had a nice game today, Alec Burlison and Wilson Contreras,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but specifically those three that said, you know what, We're
- 4:44Speaker 1: not gonna go down in an order here. We're gonna
- 4:45Speaker 1: keep giving you a fight. Let's have the same sort
- 4:47Speaker 1: of attack that we would if we were a contending team,
- 4:51Speaker 1: and that helps the long run. There are guys that
- 4:54Speaker 1: are going to go out there and not look great.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Nolan Gorman has not looked good at third base again.
- 4:58Speaker 1: We'll get to that. Thomas a. Jac We did not
- 5:00Speaker 1: have a great series. Some of these guys are going
- 5:03Speaker 1: to be exposed right now, that's the point they have
- 5:07Speaker 1: to learn here. It's going to make for some not
- 5:10Speaker 1: very pretty baseball. It's going to make for some frustrating
- 5:13Speaker 1: moments on the field. But as we switch to twenty
- 5:16Speaker 1: twenty six and beyond the next two months, while painful,
- 5:19Speaker 1: while disappointing, well probably aren't always going to be great
- 5:22Speaker 1: or clean or good baseball are just as important as
- 5:26Speaker 1: this club finally embraces what it said it was going
- 5:29Speaker 1: to do at the end of the twenty twenty four
- 5:31Speaker 1: season and emphasize the future. All right, Hopefully that makes
- 5:34Speaker 1: you feel a little bit better about the series, because
- 5:39Speaker 1: it's where we are and guys, I don't like it.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I don't like coming to work. And you know, I
- 5:43Speaker 1: was so jealous of the Padres writers. They're analyzing every pitch.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You know, that's why we're here, that's why we get
- 5:48Speaker 1: into this is for the big moments. But the organization
- 5:51Speaker 1: and you're going to roll your eyes. You know it
- 5:53Speaker 1: might miss the market. First, the organization is going to
- 5:55Speaker 1: continue saying we need to see what we have in
- 5:57Speaker 1: these guys. I agree, because if you don't now you
- 6:00Speaker 1: never will, and then we're stuck in this toxic cycle
- 6:03Speaker 1: of are they contenders? Are they fringe contenders. Let's actually
- 6:07Speaker 1: fix what's going on the underline issues of this organization,
- 6:10Speaker 1: which we know our player development. See what you have
- 6:12Speaker 1: and with your homegrown talent, and give them an opportunity
- 6:15Speaker 1: to play for the next two months. If there's any
- 6:18Speaker 1: silver lining here, it's that you have the opportunity to
- 6:20Speaker 1: look at what this future might be. And when you
- 6:23Speaker 1: see what Ivon Herrera is doing in left field or
- 6:25Speaker 1: at the plate, when you see what Mason Wan is
- 6:27Speaker 1: doing its shortstop, when you see Alec Burlison emerging into
- 6:31Speaker 1: a number three hitter for this club. Though, that's all
- 6:35Speaker 1: super important as we head into twenty twenty six. Again,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say it's gonna be the most compelling baseball.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's going to be frustrating some days. It's just gonna suck,
- 6:43Speaker 1: that's what it is. But this is something that an
- 6:46Speaker 1: organization that really wants to bring change to should be doing.
- 6:50Speaker 1: They have roughly fifty games or so to continue seeing
- 6:53Speaker 1: what they have in these young guys and they'll go
- 6:55Speaker 1: from there. All right. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Let's get into some roster move that happened over the weekend.
- 7:01Speaker 1: The Cardinals started the post deadline era with Nolan Arnatto
- 7:05Speaker 1: hitting the ten day intery list with a right shoulder strain.
- 7:07Speaker 1: This is the same shoulder injury that plagued him in July,
- 7:09Speaker 1: where he had to miss a handful of games. He
- 7:11Speaker 1: was hopeful that taking the All Star break and some
- 7:14Speaker 1: extended rest would have a shoulder feel better. But it
- 7:17Speaker 1: has not looked good, guys. I mean, Arnatto's ops in
- 7:22Speaker 1: July started with four. Okay, it wasn't good. He hasn't
- 7:25Speaker 1: homework since June twenty first, Clearly something is wrong there.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I know there's going to be some conspiracy theorists out
- 7:30Speaker 1: here saying, oh, you know, Cardinals made him go on
- 7:33Speaker 1: the al so they could play Gorman. That's not my
- 7:36Speaker 1: riven situation at all. We haven't talked to Nolan, but
- 7:38Speaker 1: just you know, this is someone who's been on the
- 7:40Speaker 1: injured list. This is just the fourth time in his career,
- 7:42Speaker 1: one time with the Cardinals, and two of those stints
- 7:45Speaker 1: happened when either the Rockies or the Cardinals were firmly
- 7:48Speaker 1: out of contention. I think my reading the situation here
- 7:51Speaker 1: is this is something that Arnatto felt he could have
- 7:54Speaker 1: played through if the team was contending, but because the
- 7:56Speaker 1: team sold, and because he's clearly not right. I mean,
- 7:59Speaker 1: look at the number. He has not looked good. He
- 8:01Speaker 1: has made the decision where you know, it's best for
- 8:04Speaker 1: me and the team to go on the injured list
- 8:06Speaker 1: right now and get my shoulder right. I think that
- 8:09Speaker 1: was more or less the decision behind the timing. It
- 8:12Speaker 1: was I can play through this. He no longer has
- 8:15Speaker 1: to play through this right now because the Cardinals are
- 8:16Speaker 1: pivoting towards twenty twenty six and beyond, and who knows
- 8:19Speaker 1: if he's gonna be here. Well, I'm sure we'll revisit
- 8:21Speaker 1: all the trade speculation because it's a Cardinal tradition now.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But that was my understanding of what happened there. Nolan
- 8:27Speaker 1: Gorman's going to see the bulk of time at third
- 8:29Speaker 1: base Thomas a jac available to slot in. What this
- 8:32Speaker 1: means for Gorman it's finally an opportunity to see what
- 8:35Speaker 1: he can do with everyday playing type, and the Cardinals
- 8:38Speaker 1: need to where they can slot him defensively. They have
- 8:41Speaker 1: eighty seven dhs on the roster right now. Okay. They
- 8:44Speaker 1: have a catcher in left field, they have a catcher
- 8:45Speaker 1: of first base. Their two actual catchers behind the plate
- 8:47Speaker 1: are both backup catchers are designed to be. And this
- 8:51Speaker 1: is no knock on either Patropas or Joel Pozo. It's
- 8:54Speaker 1: just their nature of their skill set. They don't need
- 8:57Speaker 1: another DH So they need to find out if Nolan
- 9:00Speaker 1: has any positional flexibility at all. He's okay at second base,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but the Cardinals have a much better second baseman named
- 9:05Speaker 1: Brendan Donovan. Third base does not look good as early.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I know it's only been a couple of days, but
- 9:13Speaker 1: this is an opportunity for Gorman to show what else
- 9:15Speaker 1: he can bring besides the chance of power and homers.
- 9:19Speaker 1: What can he bring to be a total defensive player.
- 9:22Speaker 1: This goes back to our first point. Yeah, you want
- 9:24Speaker 1: Nolan Gorman to go up there and you know, drive
- 9:26Speaker 1: in a run or get on base, have an impactful swing.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You also want to see what he can do defensively
- 9:33Speaker 1: on the diamond. Can he be an everyday player? Can
- 9:35Speaker 1: that back hold up? That stuff is going to be
- 9:38Speaker 1: brought to light over the next you know, however, long
- 9:41Speaker 1: Arnado is out, Alie Marmold does not have a timetable
- 9:43Speaker 1: for Arnauda's return, said it was too early when asked
- 9:46Speaker 1: if he was going to be out for the season,
- 9:48Speaker 1: my gut tells me he won't be. My gut tells
- 9:49Speaker 1: me he'll be back. I've been wrong before, though, So
- 9:52Speaker 1: it's all about opportunity, and this is what we would
- 9:54Speaker 1: have seen. If the Cardinals could have traded Arnaudo in
- 9:56Speaker 1: the off season, we would have had a whole season
- 9:58Speaker 1: of this for Nolan, Gorman said. We get two months,
- 10:01Speaker 1: so better than nothing. But it just goes to show
- 10:03Speaker 1: that as this Cardinals team uses this bridge season, it's
- 10:06Speaker 1: looking more and more like a true rebuild here. And
- 10:09Speaker 1: a true rebuild doesn't have to be five years of
- 10:11Speaker 1: being terrible. It doesn't have to be tearing the roster
- 10:14Speaker 1: down to the studs. I've always said that a true
- 10:16Speaker 1: rebuild can be, Hey, we're gonna concede games right now
- 10:19Speaker 1: and we're going to look to build for the future.
- 10:20Speaker 1: We know that we don't have a fully true, majorly
- 10:24Speaker 1: caliber twenty six man roster. They don't, They do not, Okay,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they know that the priority is not to supplement the
- 10:31Speaker 1: twenty six man roster and make it major Lye caliber
- 10:33Speaker 1: right now. It's to do it in the future and
- 10:35Speaker 1: the only way the Cardinals can do that because they're
- 10:37Speaker 1: not going to go out there and spend We know
- 10:39Speaker 1: that Dewitz ownership will not do that, especially certainly to
- 10:42Speaker 1: the extent of the higher teams like the Dodgers, Mets, Phillies.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Take your pick, Padres, but they will try to backfill
- 10:48Speaker 1: their entire organization with homegrown talent. You got to know
- 10:52Speaker 1: what your homegrown talent does, what they can do, how
- 10:54Speaker 1: they can play. So hater fro Nolan Arnado hopefully he's
- 10:58Speaker 1: back soon, and healthy gorm A third Donovan at second
- 11:02Speaker 1: Lars Nwbar back from the il on Saturday, surprise, we
- 11:06Speaker 1: have another roster log jam. The Cardinals have a plethora
- 11:09Speaker 1: of corner and outfielders new bar Carrera, Burlson, bunch of
- 11:15Speaker 1: lefties and Gorman and Donovan. You throw in there, Victor Scott.
- 11:20Speaker 1: So this will be something that Bernie and I can
- 11:22Speaker 1: dive into next week on our episode. What Oli Marmal's
- 11:24Speaker 1: gonna do about yet another redundant roster, I don't know,
- 11:28Speaker 1: but it is so important for the Cardinals to continue
- 11:31Speaker 1: giving this opportunity to guys I'm not. I'm gonna try
- 11:33Speaker 1: it really hard not to use runway because I'm just
- 11:35Speaker 1: so tired of that word. But I'm already also tired
- 11:37Speaker 1: of the word opportunity. It is what it is. The
- 11:40Speaker 1: Cardinals do not have a majorly callible roster right now,
- 11:43Speaker 1: a ton of redundant positions, a ton of issues, and
- 11:46Speaker 1: guess what, They're gonna have to play through it and
- 11:48Speaker 1: figure it out so that when twenty twenty six comes,
- 11:50Speaker 1: they're in a much much better spot. So I know
- 11:55Speaker 1: it's not a very positive episode, guys, but hey, at
- 11:56Speaker 1: Lisa Weather's nice here in San Diego. All right, let's
- 11:59Speaker 1: jump through to our Draft Kings segment. Our DraftKings player
- 12:04Speaker 1: to watch, all right, Our player to watch, presented by
- 12:14Speaker 1: DraftKings is none other than the new de facto closer,
- 12:18Speaker 1: Jojo Romero. Uh, it's not as simple as it seems. Shocking,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and nothing is with this organization. Let's pull up JoJo's
- 12:26Speaker 1: stats here coming into Sunday forty two appearances, three and three,
- 12:32Speaker 1: record two two one era thirty five shockouts of our
- 12:35Speaker 1: thirty six and two thirds. But I want to look
- 12:37Speaker 1: at his splits with you guys, and just kind of
- 12:38Speaker 1: break down how effective Jojo has been in July, a
- 12:46Speaker 1: month that wasn't good for a lot of players, it
- 12:47Speaker 1: was very good for Jojo. Opponents hit one ninety four
- 12:50Speaker 1: off him a four forty four ops. He did not
- 12:54Speaker 1: allow an earn run in nine appearances, and he struck
- 12:57Speaker 1: out fifteen. That's pretty good stuff. That's why we'll we
- 13:00Speaker 1: ask President Baseball Operations jahm Azaylok after he traded Ryan Helsley,
- 13:02Speaker 1: Stephen Matts, and Phil Maton who the closer would be.
- 13:05Speaker 1: He said Jojo Romero would most likely see the uptic
- 13:09Speaker 1: in high leverage situations. Now, notice they did not name
- 13:11Speaker 1: him the closer specifically. That's because they can't. Jojo Romero
- 13:15Speaker 1: is the only left handed believer in this roster. See
- 13:17Speaker 1: what I'm talking about, a lot of issues, a lot
- 13:19Speaker 1: of problems. So the Cardinals can't use him solely in
- 13:23Speaker 1: the ninth. They have to use him for the best
- 13:25Speaker 1: lane against lefty hitters. Sometimes that's going to be the seventh,
- 13:29Speaker 1: Sometimes it's going to be the eighth. Sometimes it's going
- 13:31Speaker 1: to be the ninth. Uh But what is going to
- 13:34Speaker 1: be really difficult about this is back to the original
- 13:37Speaker 1: point we made at the start. Of the episode. The
- 13:39Speaker 1: Cardinals have always had kind of players and lanes. You
- 13:42Speaker 1: knew Mayton was coming in the eighth. You knew lay
- 13:44Speaker 1: he would have multiples if it was a lefty lane
- 13:46Speaker 1: or a righty lane. Excuse me, a no, Mats would
- 13:48Speaker 1: have multiples if it was a lefty lane coming up.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And you knew Ryan Helsley was taking the ninth easy money.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It is kind of all over the place now. There
- 13:55Speaker 1: is just simply there's no way to avoid this. There's
- 13:57Speaker 1: no way for Ali Marble and Dusty Blake to avoid
- 13:59Speaker 1: this situation. There are going to be times when they
- 14:02Speaker 1: put a right handed believer in a lane that doesn't
- 14:05Speaker 1: match up well for said reliever because they don't have
- 14:07Speaker 1: another lefty. That's what John King's injury on Tuesday really
- 14:12Speaker 1: poor timing because you lose another lefty there, Oh, why
- 14:15Speaker 1: not bring a lefty up from triple A? You ask, Oh,
- 14:18Speaker 1: they don't have any Okay, You see the problem here.
- 14:21Speaker 1: This is not just an active roster or a forty
- 14:23Speaker 1: man roster issue. This is an overarching view of the
- 14:26Speaker 1: entire organization. It's why player development has been the focus.
- 14:30Speaker 1: But now I'm getting off or off tangent and I'm
- 14:32Speaker 1: getting irritated of a situation, So let's go back to Jojo.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Jojo is probably best suited to close, and he did
- 14:40Speaker 1: this role in twenty twenty three when the Cardinals sold
- 14:42Speaker 1: as well. But again because of the lane and because
- 14:45Speaker 1: of the lack of other lefty options, they're going to
- 14:47Speaker 1: use him in highest leverage. You'll see someone like Riley O'Brien.
- 14:50Speaker 1: He was up for the ninth on Saturday's game. If
- 14:52Speaker 1: it got to a safe situation, that would have been
- 14:54Speaker 1: exciting to see. Kyle Lahy is going to continue in
- 14:57Speaker 1: that multiples. I mean Kyle lay On Saturday inning and
- 15:00Speaker 1: two thirds lights out against the Padres in that eight
- 15:03Speaker 1: to five win against them, they're only win of the series.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And you're looking at other guys. You're looking at what
- 15:08Speaker 1: can Matt Sponson do. Matt Sponson had a pretty impressive
- 15:11Speaker 1: outing on Friday, striking out Manny Machado. So there are
- 15:16Speaker 1: pieces and they are things to get excited about. Ryan
- 15:18Speaker 1: Fernandez is back from Memphis. We haven't had a chance
- 15:20Speaker 1: to see him yet briefly on Friday. It's not a
- 15:26Speaker 1: bullpen where the roles are established many like most of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the season, most of twenty twenty four and twenty twenty three.
- 15:32Speaker 1: It's a let's try to match up for our best
- 15:35Speaker 1: possible success, knowing that sometimes we're gonna put a reliever
- 15:38Speaker 1: in a lane that doesn't match up for him, and
- 15:40Speaker 1: he's gonna have to execute and learn from it, and
- 15:43Speaker 1: we move forward. But Jojo Romero has been very, very effective,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and in a perfect world he will get the ninth.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Cardinals could really use another lefty right now. So you
- 15:54Speaker 1: hope that John King and that leftover league strain comes
- 15:57Speaker 1: back soon. It's tough right now, guys. It does a
- 16:00Speaker 1: Baron roster a lot of issues. Again, I'm not envious
- 16:03Speaker 1: of Allie Marvel and the job he has to do
- 16:06Speaker 1: in order to try to make these guys better. The
- 16:09Speaker 1: math just doesn't really add up here. You have a
- 16:12Speaker 1: roster with seven right handed relievers who all have more
- 16:14Speaker 1: or less the same amount of stuff, with the exception
- 16:16Speaker 1: of Leahy and O'Brien. You have five left handed hitters.
- 16:22Speaker 1: They all play in the corners. You have one true
- 16:25Speaker 1: center fielder. Even though you have eight outfielders, you don't
- 16:28Speaker 1: really have anyone that can back up Victor Scott in
- 16:29Speaker 1: center field. You have one shortstop in Mason Wynn. Your
- 16:32Speaker 1: third basement's on the il, so you're using Nolan Gorman,
- 16:34Speaker 1: who doesn't really look like a third basement at the moment.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Thomas A. Jac whilst I still think has a lot
- 16:39Speaker 1: of potential, is pretty raw, probably overmatched at the big
- 16:42Speaker 1: leagues right now, but they don't have anyone else to
- 16:44Speaker 1: play them, so they're going to do that tough spot
- 16:46Speaker 1: to be. So that's a player spotlight powered by Draft Kings.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I don't have picks for you guys today because we
- 16:53Speaker 1: don't have the Monday episodes out yet, but I'm looking
- 16:58Speaker 1: at the Pick six website right now. Phillies Tiger is
- 17:03Speaker 1: a Sunday night baseball which I believe is underway or
- 17:05Speaker 1: it just started, so I don't know. I can't make picks.
- 17:10Speaker 1: But anytime that you see the Phillies up there and
- 17:12Speaker 1: the Tigers, two very good, solid teams, you'll have lots
- 17:17Speaker 1: of players to look at. So that's that's it. Check
- 17:21Speaker 1: it out on Pick six. Bernie loves it. You guys
- 17:24Speaker 1: know that he's he's our DraftKings guy. I don't have again,
- 17:28Speaker 1: no picks for you because I don't know about Monday,
- 17:30Speaker 1: so make sure to check. You can, excuse me, download
- 17:37Speaker 1: the DraftKings Pick six ap Pick six app now and
- 17:39Speaker 1: use code foul. That's code feul for new customers to
- 17:42Speaker 1: get twenty five dollars in bonus picks with their first
- 17:44Speaker 1: deposit of five dollars, better payouts, bigger wins only with
- 17:48Speaker 1: Pick six from DraftKings. The crown is yours.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Gambling problem called one eight hundred. Gambler must be eighteen
- 17:55Speaker 2: and over. Agent eligibility restrictions vary by jurisdiction. Void we're
- 17:59Speaker 2: prohibited new custs. There is only minimum five dollars deposit.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Bonus picks expire one hundred and sixty eight hours after
- 18:04Speaker 2: issue in four additional terms and responsible gaming resources see
- 18:07Speaker 2: picksix dot DraftKings dot com slash promos.
- 18:11Speaker 1: All right, as we move to the future, I will
- 18:14Speaker 1: say it's not going to show up in the box score,
- 18:16Speaker 1: and it's hard to evaluate, and it's very very early.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I like what we see in Yvon Herrera in left field,
- 18:23Speaker 1: and I mean he made a play today, a hard
- 18:24Speaker 1: hit double that I thought was going to be a
- 18:26Speaker 1: double down the line. He races over there and gets
- 18:30Speaker 1: the ball quick gets it back to the infield on
- 18:32Speaker 1: a hard throat a second runner stops at first. That's
- 18:35Speaker 1: that's an extra ninety feet is pivotal that he's saved
- 18:39Speaker 1: right there. The sinking liner in Golden Hour Day game
- 18:44Speaker 1: to left field, that's a really tough play for a
- 18:46Speaker 1: new outfielder. He handled that pretty seamlessly. I know that's
- 18:49Speaker 1: a routine play for an experience left fielder. But Evon
- 18:51Speaker 1: Herrera has like four days in left field till it's
- 18:53Speaker 1: cut in some slack. If there's one thing the Cardinals
- 18:56Speaker 1: are doing that I'm encouraged by. I think Herrera could
- 18:59Speaker 1: be a service major league outfielder out there. So maybe
- 19:03Speaker 1: that's what we're looking for. Is we head into the
- 19:04Speaker 1: Dodgers series, Let's look at the probables. All I know
- 19:09Speaker 1: is that show Hey slates to go Wednesday, so I'm
- 19:11Speaker 1: excited about it. Your probables for the Cardinals Dodgers series
- 19:15Speaker 1: at Dodgers Stadium, they will go Sunny Gray and versus
- 19:23Speaker 1: Taylor Glass Now on Monday Tuesday, Miles Michaelis versus Emmett Shean,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and then Matthew Libertore versus Show Hey o Tani Wednesday
- 19:30Speaker 1: Getaway Day. That's what we're looking at. And what you
- 19:34Speaker 1: could also be looking at before we go away is
- 19:37Speaker 1: the Cardinal Territory Shop. Our merch is out. I just
- 19:40Speaker 1: ordered a brand new bag. I'm super excited. Not hats yet,
- 19:44Speaker 1: but soon. We have quarter zip sweatshirts, shirts, coffee mugs,
- 19:48Speaker 1: water bottles, backpacks. Anything you could possibly want we have.
- 19:53Speaker 1: You can check the link if you're watching on YouTube,
- 19:55Speaker 1: it should pop up right under the show. And if
- 19:57Speaker 1: you aren't listening to us on the podcast, you can
- 19:59Speaker 1: visit Cardinal Art story shop dot com again for your
- 20:02Speaker 1: first look at new merch. All right, Cardinals fans, We're
- 20:06Speaker 1: going to get through the next two months together. And
- 20:08Speaker 1: I do think that there are when I say exciting
- 20:12Speaker 1: relative to the situation, there are things to be excited
- 20:16Speaker 1: about in terms of evaluating the future. And I know
- 20:18Speaker 1: this is not a place anyone wants to be in.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I know, selling again for the second time in three years.
- 20:22Speaker 1: It's disheartening as a fan. It sucks, especially this fan
- 20:26Speaker 1: base that has been conditioned to have such high standards,
- 20:30Speaker 1: and I think the organization should be doing its best
- 20:32Speaker 1: to uphold those standards instead of asking the fan base
- 20:34Speaker 1: to lower theirs. But here we are, it's going to
- 20:39Speaker 1: get complicated, and there's going to be things and situations
- 20:42Speaker 1: that just don't make a lot of sense. I'm here
- 20:44Speaker 1: to help you through it. Sometimes it don't make a
- 20:46Speaker 1: lot of sense to me either, So let's learn through
- 20:48Speaker 1: this together. I'm not going to pretend to tell you
- 20:49Speaker 1: that I have all the answers right now, but I
- 20:51Speaker 1: will try my best to get there again. It won't
- 20:54Speaker 1: be the most pretty baseball over the next two months,
- 20:56Speaker 1: but I still think there are things worth watching as
- 20:58Speaker 1: we look towards hopefully much better twenty twenty six and beyond.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Birdie and I are back with you next week. We're
- 21:04Speaker 1: gonna have some fun guest episodes. If you have a
- 21:06Speaker 1: guest that you would like on the show, drop it
- 21:08Speaker 1: in the comments section, send me a DM on Twitter.
- 21:10Speaker 1: We're at card Territory there or at Katie j wus
- 21:13Speaker 1: my personal one. Yeah, we're always looking for fan suggestions.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I want to keep you guys happy. We are so
- 21:18Speaker 1: close to five thousand subscribers. That is so cool. So
- 21:21Speaker 1: when we get to five thousand subscribers, we will do
- 21:23Speaker 1: a giveaway episode with our new merch I think that'd
- 21:25Speaker 1: be pretty fun, So spread the word. Thanks, as always,
- 21:28Speaker 1: for following along, like, share, comment on YouTube, on Apple,
- 21:31Speaker 1: on Spotify. You guys are the best, and I'm super
- 21:34Speaker 1: thankful for you sticking with me. Even now, post deadline
- 21:38Speaker 1: and kind of the lull of the next two months
- 21:40Speaker 1: of the season, I still think, you know, I'm grateful
- 21:41Speaker 1: that you guys are here falling along. So back with
- 21:44Speaker 1: you from LA tomorrow, maybe Tuesday, I don't know. I
- 21:47Speaker 1: gotta figure my life out. The Cardinals Dodgers will be
- 21:50Speaker 1: underway around nine o'clock Central Time on Monday. We will
- 21:53Speaker 1: talk to you then. Thanks for watching.
