- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today we have a lesson from Napoleon Hill, who is very old
- 0:35school. I know most of us have read
- 0:37Think and Grow Rich maybe more than once, and we've all walked
- 0:42away with that, the gems that that book has to offer.
- 0:46There's one particular quote that is just so powerful and so
- 0:52poignant, it's worth focusing on for a period of time is
- 0:56willpower is the outgrowth of definiteness of purpose
- 1:01expressed through persistent action based on personal
- 1:06initiative. So that's a lot encompassing in
- 1:09that one little sentence because we as human beings, we, we want
- 1:14to believe that we all have a purpose.
- 1:17We all we when we do, we all have a purpose.
- 1:19And we want to believe that at the core of who we are.
- 1:21We want to believe we all have a purpose and that the meaning of
- 1:24our life is definite in clarity so that we can know that it all
- 1:30matters, right? Everything has to matter to us
- 1:33at some point in time because otherwise what's it all for,
- 1:36right? So we think about this on our
- 1:40purpose and we say, OK, definiteness of purpose, like,
- 1:44Are you sure? And this is where so many people
- 1:46get hung up. Well, I'm not sure on my
- 1:48purpose. I, I'm not sure.
- 1:50Can I have multiple purposes? I, I've had that question asked
- 1:54me so many times. I've had people say to me, well,
- 1:57you know, they say you can have to only pick one thing and
- 2:00master it, which I happen to think is a bunch of crap.
- 2:03But just because I've seen people who are extraordinarily
- 2:07successful be outstanding at multiple things for instant,
- 2:11Albert Einstein was a gifted musician as well as a
- 2:15mathematician, as well as a general creative person who
- 2:19could do multiple things extremely well.
- 2:22He had, you know, that that gift of creativity ran deep through
- 2:27him, through his soul. And without question, he had a
- 2:32definiteness of purpose, and that purpose spanned multiple
- 2:36areas. So what does it come down to
- 2:39when you hear that statement? Willpower is the outgrowth of
- 2:42definite purpose, meaning that's the first.
- 2:44Let's divide this up. So the first part of it is when
- 2:47you have willpower to stick to something, when you have stick
- 2:51to it Ness, if you will, and, and your whole being is sticky
- 2:55towards something, you without question at that point in time
- 2:59will have the willpower to keep it up because you love it.
- 3:04I mean, that's what happened to me with coaching.
- 3:06I loved it so much. I loved the results.
- 3:09I loved having it show up in my own life and how I was becoming
- 3:13a different person. But I loved working with my
- 3:15clients and seeing how they were growing and they were becoming
- 3:18infinitely better day by day. So to me, that was just a that
- 3:23gave me the willpower to do all the things that I needed to do
- 3:26to learn and to continue to grow.
- 3:29It pushes you when you're aligned with that purpose and
- 3:35the persistence of action, meaning you've got to keep
- 3:39taking that action over and over, not just notice his words
- 3:43there, which it wasn't just take action, it was persistent
- 3:46action. Now I have very well known in my
- 3:49circles for being the person that says, you know, small steps
- 3:53add up constantly doing one thing every day, little tiny
- 3:56steps. You don't have to take the
- 3:58massive of action all the time, but what you have to do is you
- 4:01have to be consistent with small action.
- 4:04That's why doing things like tracking your steps is so
- 4:07important because when you start tracking your steps on a Fitbit,
- 4:10it's quite enlightening. None of you have ever done it,
- 4:12but it actually transformed my life personally because I didn't
- 4:16realize how little I was walking.
- 4:18And then I when I got my Fitbit and I started looking, I'm like,
- 4:21these are tiny. This is a step.
- 4:22This is one step in time, literally a step at a time.
- 4:26And you know, the, the number 10,000 actually, if you study it
- 4:30was a rather random number. I'll be at a good number.
- 4:33It was just a random number that they came up with.
- 4:36And OK, so 10,000 steps that should be pretty good, doesn't
- 4:40burn 2000 calories. But hell, you know what?
- 4:42At least it was moving. And when I started realizing
- 4:46that those steps, how they add up and how they affect you when
- 4:48you don't take the right number of steps that you need for your
- 4:51body, cause each body is different, then it's like, OK,
- 4:54well, I can do another 10, you know, another 10 steps.
- 4:58I can do another 100 steps. I can do another 1000 steps.
- 5:01And before you know it, you've trained your body to do 20,000
- 5:04steps a day and then some. And that's real.
- 5:07That's a number that I do every day and it's one step at a time.
- 5:11And that just drills it into my head.
- 5:13That persistent action gets you to the fitness level that you
- 5:16want or anything else that might be engaged with it.
- 5:20And it's all has to be based on his last, his last two words,
- 5:23personal initiative, meaning you've got to light your own
- 5:27fire. Nobody can light your fire for
- 5:30you. You've got to light your own
- 5:32fire. And when you do light your own
- 5:34fire, when you do start to do things like that, it is
- 5:38extremely that enlightening to feel like you have put yourself
- 5:43into a position where you are driving your train.
- 5:47I don't need anybody else to pump me up.
- 5:49I'll be at, I have a coach and I work with my coach, but I do not
- 5:53need him to light me up for this because I have personal
- 5:57initiative. And then looking to yourself and
- 5:59saying, well, do I have personal initiative is a really important
- 6:02question. Do am I committed to this?
- 6:05Do I feel like I light my own fire up in this?
- 6:07Because ultimately, no one can do the lighting of the fire but
- 6:12you. I go to my coach so that he can
- 6:14stoke my fire and help me understand different thoughts.
- 6:18That's the gift. But the I lit the fire, I lit
- 6:21the fire and I keep the fire going because it's important to
- 6:24me. That piece is important to me.
- 6:26So my suggestion to you is, again, listen to the phrase.
- 6:30Willpower is the outgrowth of definiteness of purpose
- 6:34expressed through persistent action based on personal
- 6:38initiative. You know it.
- 6:40It's nothing but pure gold in that luck happens when you're
- 6:46prepared and meets opportunity, as the phrase goes, right?
- 6:50It isn't an accident. Success occurs when you have a
- 6:54definite purpose in your life and you take initiative to
- 6:57follow through on action every single day.
- 7:00Make no mistake, everybody and people make the mistake all the
- 7:04time thinking that they don't have to do anything and they're
- 7:07just going to get lucky. Well, guess what, any action
- 7:11that you take towards it is going to help you move closer to
- 7:14being persistent in that and it retrains your brain.
- 7:17So I hope you have a very blessed day filled with an
- 7:22acknowledgement of definiteness of purpose and help you and it
- 7:25helps you move through to get that initiative moving and keep
- 7:30that fire stoked and lit. All right guys, I will see you
- 7:33all tomorrow. Bye.
