- 0:00Speaker 1: But how are you.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm good. I was just cracking up at your guys message.
- 0:05Speaker 2: While you wait, it's like, with you shortly, please take
- 0:08Speaker 2: a moment to reflect on your life choices.
- 0:12Speaker 1: That's what I wrote you.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yep, so I was reflecting on my life choices.
- 0:18Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yes, I know, I'd change a few of the settings,
- 0:21Speaker 3: and I'm just like, oh yeah, people are waiting, just like, yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 3: I think it was a suggestion, I believe. I don't
- 0:27Speaker 3: think it was my own, but I thought, really.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Good right up my street for that kind of stuff.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Awesome. So how have you been.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm well, I'm good. It's actually quite warm and sunny
- 0:40Speaker 2: here in London, which.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Is yeah, yeah, because you guys have had a bit.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Of a heat wave, haven't you.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I you know, obviously I'm not English, but I.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Feel like I'm going to say I detective. I was
- 0:56Speaker 3: the accent, Is that right?
- 0:58Speaker 1: Ki? Oh yeah, almost one of ours.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'm just like, I mean, well, I mean most of
- 1:04Speaker 2: my family live in Sydney now anyway, so okay, yeah
- 1:07Speaker 2: it's close enough, but I mean, yeah, it's yeah, I
- 1:11Speaker 2: am becoming English because I talk about the weather.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Hey, look, I talk about the weather and I'm ausies
- 1:16Speaker 3: because it's either really fucking hot and I live on
- 1:18Speaker 3: these in the northern.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Rivers, so I don't like cold.
- 1:22Speaker 3: It all like below twenty five degrees and I'm like,
- 1:24Speaker 3: it's cold, So I would not go in the UK,
- 1:29Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 1:32Speaker 2: No, it does get a bit but icee.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, So you guys have had a bit of drama
- 1:38Speaker 3: happening recently. We had our initial interview has been rescheduled
- 1:43Speaker 3: until now. Do you want to tell the first of all,
- 1:45Speaker 3: welcome to Heavy mag Sorry, and good listeners and viewers,
- 1:50Speaker 3: what had been happening for yourselves which was unexpected.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Yeah. So over the last year or so, we've been
- 2:00Speaker 2: chipping away making our own sort of rehearsal space and studio.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We got that up and running a couple of months
- 2:08Speaker 2: ago with the plan of you know, having our own HQ,
- 2:13Speaker 2: because I did you know, for any listeners that don't
- 2:16Speaker 2: know what London rehearsal scene is like, it is you
- 2:19Speaker 2: know you have to book time slots and cages that
- 2:22Speaker 2: you know, sometimes not so great spaces. It's expensive, yes,
- 2:30Speaker 2: so it's a bit of a chore. So we wanted
- 2:31Speaker 2: to do our own own thing. Come and go when
- 2:35Speaker 2: we pleased and not pay the earth. So yeah, we're
- 2:41Speaker 2: all good. Everything was great, and then literally on one
- 2:45Speaker 2: Wednesday night we had a rehearsal it was rescheduled from
- 2:48Speaker 2: the Thursday for some reason, and in Friday morning we
- 2:52Speaker 2: had a bunch of pictures of our rehearsal space and
- 2:57Speaker 2: the whole building it was in literally one hundred and
- 2:59Speaker 2: fifty five five as twenty five fire engines took four
- 3:02Speaker 2: days to put out.
- 3:03Speaker 3: So wow, apologies delay, but we've had perfinitely understandable. I
- 3:09Speaker 3: was just glad everyone was okay, But that's that's intense
- 3:12Speaker 3: four days for.
- 3:13Speaker 2: A Yeah, it was definitely putting the good effort there. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 2: so obviously rescheduling shows, interviews, all that stuff, alongside trying
- 3:28Speaker 2: to work out what if any of our gears survived
- 3:31Speaker 2: and do all the boring insurance yeah stuff. But yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 2: we're finally back on our feet mostly. You know, we've
- 3:41Speaker 2: got our first show after the fire is just coming.
- 3:46Speaker 2: So the thirty first, so two fridays from now. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 2: really cool, cool club night in London, and then we're
- 3:54Speaker 2: at Bloodstock Festival the week after, so you know, we're
- 3:57Speaker 2: we're back on our feet. On the live scene. A
- 3:59Speaker 2: lot of our recording gear is but yeah, that's that's
- 4:04Speaker 2: that's phase two true.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I guess the question is, is anything that you had saved,
- 4:09Speaker 3: like any works in progress, did you manage to save
- 4:12Speaker 3: it or did you lose some of that which is
- 4:15Speaker 3: unfortunately irreplaceable.
- 4:16Speaker 2: If that was the case, no, all working progresses from
- 4:21Speaker 2: the cloud cloud somewhere.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Excellent, excellent, not stored on a hard drive somewhere in
- 4:25Speaker 3: the studio.
- 4:28Speaker 2: No.
- 4:28Speaker 4: No.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I think the most of the most painful parts were
- 4:32Speaker 2: so obviously any anything like guitar pedals and stuff, Yes,
- 4:34Speaker 2: it sucks, but it's electronics place that. It's just guitars
- 4:38Speaker 2: that got damaged, and right off that, I think that
- 4:43Speaker 2: was the most upsetting part for everyone. You know, I
- 4:47Speaker 2: had some old guitars that just absolutely damaged beyond beyond repair.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and those kind of things are absolutely replaceable, especially
- 4:56Speaker 3: if it's your favorite that you take on tour or
- 4:59Speaker 3: what have you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That's insane. Do you know what started it? How it was? Initially?
- 5:03Speaker 4: Of course, the whole roof was it was it was
- 5:08Speaker 4: a big warehouse and the roof was full the solar panels,
- 5:11Speaker 4: and so they think maybe one of the inside the
- 5:14Speaker 4: building caught fire, but it's one of those things, it's
- 5:17Speaker 4: like it burned a lot.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, well that aside.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Obviously, you guys, as you said, you've bounced back and
- 5:24Speaker 3: you're getting everything back in order and you're doing the
- 5:27Speaker 3: live stuff, which is always good because you had some
- 5:29Speaker 3: shows that were lying up. So what some tell the
- 5:31Speaker 3: good people, what Temple of Mars have been up to,
- 5:34Speaker 3: and what is on your rest of the roster for
- 5:36Speaker 3: the year apart from trying to recoup.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well, we had to ditch a couple of shows because
- 5:44Speaker 2: because of the situation. But yeah, so we've got a
- 5:47Speaker 2: couple of shows in the next few weeks. Then we've
- 5:49Speaker 2: got a bit of a break and we're looking at booking.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I can't reveal anything yet, but more stuff it will
- 5:56Speaker 2: be announced before the end of the year.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, exciting. Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah. We love the the live stuff me especially so.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah doing it it's fun times.
- 6:09Speaker 3: And so the live shows that you're doing at the moment,
- 6:11Speaker 3: they are off the album that you guys released, was
- 6:13Speaker 3: it last year?
- 6:14Speaker 1: I remember correctly.
- 6:16Speaker 2: October in October twenty two five. Yeah, we're predominantly will
- 6:21Speaker 2: be based on the new album obviously with a bit
- 6:25Speaker 2: of stuff sprinkled and from earlier releases. Yeah, really pushing
- 6:32Speaker 2: the new album, which is called The Last Ship.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Oh wow, nice. Nice. And so where it's just with
- 6:38Speaker 1: your name, Tumble of Mars.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Does it have any specific meeting or you know, anything
- 6:46Speaker 3: that it's implied by that or is it just done
- 6:49Speaker 3: one of those names that you went Now that sounds good,
- 6:50Speaker 3: we'll use it for a band.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Probably there is some Obviously people can fill in the
- 6:58Speaker 2: blanks however they want. But you know, like, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: temples on Mars creates, you know, a certain imagery. You know,
- 7:06Speaker 2: there's there's parallels between sort of you know, people actually
- 7:12Speaker 2: making considered effort to go to Mars, and there's also
- 7:18Speaker 2: the conspiracy theories about there already being temples on Mars
- 7:22Speaker 2: from earlier civilizations.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So yes, you know.
- 7:25Speaker 2: There is you know, it's it's it's loaded with imagery.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So yeah, we were We went through lots of names
- 7:32Speaker 2: to the band, and literally that just like popped into
- 7:34Speaker 2: my head one morning and I was like, that's pretty cool,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and yeah that was.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and I love me a good conspiracy.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I'm not saying we are conspiracy theorist, but you.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Know, trying to debunk it first, but it's still I love.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I'm like, but in saying that, you know, it's the
- 7:55Speaker 3: irony of how many conspiracies have now actually been revealed
- 7:58Speaker 3: as truth is just I think that's an enamost possibility anything,
- 8:02Speaker 3: because anything is possible these days.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It's all a simulation.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks like we could have a whole discourse
- 8:11Speaker 3: on that and discussion yeah, how long we want? No,
- 8:17Speaker 3: that's it's funny. But yeah, and so does that kind
- 8:19Speaker 3: of thing and thinking coming to your lyrics and your
- 8:22Speaker 3: music that you create as well or is it separate?
- 8:27Speaker 2: Absolutely? I mean it's it's not like it's not like
- 8:31Speaker 2: when we're writing, we're like, okay, we have to stick
- 8:34Speaker 2: to this narrow kind of corridor of lyrics or anything.
- 8:38Speaker 2: But kind of almost influence but also gives a bit
- 8:43Speaker 2: of an excuse, like you know, we we can because
- 8:45Speaker 2: the band is like literally about something that's floating in space.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It does you open a few more doors to lyrics
- 8:53Speaker 2: that might not work if you say, like a you know,
- 8:56Speaker 2: a straight up pop act for example. So yeah, I
- 9:00Speaker 2: mean we use it when the time calls.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's always good to keep yourself you know
- 9:06Speaker 3: that open option, and when it comes to lyrics, I
- 9:08Speaker 3: think too, it's yeah, sometimes it's see got space to
- 9:12Speaker 3: be intentionally vague, and like you say, the listeners can
- 9:15Speaker 3: fill in the blanks for themselves, which is always the
- 9:17Speaker 3: beautiful part about creating any art piece. It's it's not
- 9:21Speaker 3: no longer ours and that determination once it's been put
- 9:24Speaker 3: out there for the masses. So it's a it's interesting
- 9:26Speaker 3: to hear what people come back with too.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I think that's always really cool.
- 9:29Speaker 3: So yeah, so are you yourself involved with a lot
- 9:31Speaker 3: of the writing music and lyrics or just do you
- 9:34Speaker 3: all have a hand in that?
- 9:37Speaker 2: Lyric wise, I probably do most of the heavy lifting.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It's just something that like literally if you look at
- 9:45Speaker 2: my phone like multiple times a day, they're just things
- 9:49Speaker 2: that just yeah, phrases, you know, just happens. Yeah, musically,
- 9:55Speaker 2: it's probably three of us, you know, you know, the
- 10:00Speaker 2: idea generators, and then we kind of all put it together.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Everyone has you know, ebbs and flows, like sometimes you know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: I'm going to roll and crank out like ten ideas
- 10:14Speaker 2: and they all make sense straight off the bat. Other
- 10:16Speaker 2: times scratching the head, so send something to someone else
- 10:18Speaker 2: and yeah, you know, they'll come back with a really
- 10:21Speaker 2: cool idea or so I've got no idea and pass
- 10:24Speaker 2: it on to the next person. So yeah, me Gerald,
- 10:27Speaker 2: there's the main sort of music writers and I do
- 10:31Speaker 2: most of the lyrics and then yeah, we just basically
- 10:35Speaker 2: come up with structure, guid give it to our drummer
- 10:38Speaker 2: and he normally comes up with something pretty cool as well.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So everyone's kind of involved and you know, kind of
- 10:45Speaker 2: what kind of works.
- 10:48Speaker 3: No, that's nice when everyone's got their own little part
- 10:50Speaker 3: in it and it all comes together at one big collaboration.
- 10:53Speaker 3: It just opens the as you say, the way for
- 10:56Speaker 3: some rear coulshit to come out. And you know, other
- 10:59Speaker 3: than just what are the two people sort of always
- 11:01Speaker 3: doing it without that input, I think it's really important
- 11:05Speaker 3: as a band on a.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Whole Oh yeah, And I would say the word be
- 11:10Speaker 2: enriches it, like, you know, make it two hundred percent better.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But you know, those little increments can make the difference
- 11:17Speaker 2: between a good song and a great song.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's the thing that everyone's got there, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 3: the hand in the and in that creation, a little
- 11:25Speaker 3: bit of everyone goes into it. I think there's more, uh,
- 11:30Speaker 3: you know, more inclination to you know, be committed to
- 11:34Speaker 3: that and it's you know.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, skin's that sorry, more skin in the game.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Yeah absolutely, you know, you can have had too many
- 11:44Speaker 3: cooks in the kitchen when it comes to that kind
- 11:46Speaker 3: of stuff either.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 11:51Speaker 3: So the rest of the year, guys have, as you said,
- 11:54Speaker 3: got some more shows coming up in some festivals.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Is that right that you're doing.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so probably the highlight of the next few weeks
- 12:02Speaker 2: as we're playing Bloodstock Festival.
- 12:04Speaker 1: That's right.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, I think yeah. I want to say, like
- 12:08Speaker 2: there's bands like Lamb of God. Absolutely, you know, it's
- 12:17Speaker 2: twenty fourth anniversary, it's sold out. I'm not sure. I
- 12:20Speaker 2: want to say it's around sixty thousand people.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Wow, that's incredible.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's a good atmosphere, it's cool times. You know,
- 12:28Speaker 2: we've got a cool slot and yeah, sitting in the
- 12:32Speaker 2: prestent all day like me, Yeah, no, we love it.
- 12:38Speaker 2: It's part of the job.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And you know, you get to actaviews. That's fine.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I know it is, he always because it's when
- 12:46Speaker 3: they're in the moment, like the artists are just so
- 12:48Speaker 3: vibes and hyped and it's it's.
- 12:49Speaker 1: They're a whole different field to them, but they are good.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I do enjoy that doing them, and you know, seeing
- 12:54Speaker 3: how you're just the thrill of you guys after you
- 12:57Speaker 3: come and say it, or before you got about to
- 12:59Speaker 3: go out there. So, say, sixty thousand people like that
- 13:02Speaker 3: must be incredible to play to.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Crowds that size, that's pretty wild.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure the crowd on our
- 13:10Speaker 2: stage how if it's going to be sixty thousand, but it's.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Still a lot of people to be around.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's you know, those kind of festivals
- 13:17Speaker 2: because people going there for the music, they're genuine music fans.
- 13:22Speaker 2: They will turn up and you know, you get some
- 13:25Speaker 2: really dedicated fans from from those kind of events.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the cool part about you know, the
- 13:30Speaker 1: heavy music.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I think, you know, the listeners and the fans they
- 13:34Speaker 3: are they're locked in and they are willing to, you know,
- 13:37Speaker 3: listen new new stuff is obviously their old favorites as well,
- 13:39Speaker 3: but it's it's really quite refreshing to see like that
- 13:43Speaker 3: new movement come through that's still you know, just as
- 13:46Speaker 3: relevant that there's the guys that've been doing it forever
- 13:48Speaker 3: as well, it's kind of cool. It's a bit of
- 13:50Speaker 3: a niche one, that one.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, then that's why, you know, I'm predominantly heavy music
- 13:57Speaker 2: fans myself, so I get it. I'm also when I
- 14:01Speaker 2: go to concerts and stuff, I'm I'm that person.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, fangirl moment.
- 14:08Speaker 3: It's pretty good when we get to walk work alongside
- 14:10Speaker 3: them too, which is you know, that's always you know,
- 14:12Speaker 3: the the the peak of what we do, isn't it
- 14:16Speaker 3: when you to combine the two and.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Go, wow, this is what we're actually doing.
- 14:20Speaker 3: It's very humbling and a lot of gratitude for it.
- 14:23Speaker 3: So any plans for you guys to come down under
- 14:26Speaker 3: or back home to the land of the long White
- 14:28Speaker 3: Cloud as I call it, nice, very good. I'm not
- 14:34Speaker 3: about to start seeing foot trot flats.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I mean a friend of mine's band is actually on
- 14:42Speaker 2: tour there right now, and I do have a bit
- 14:44Speaker 2: of fomo going on, so yeah, I mean eventually, if
- 14:48Speaker 2: we get I think it just if if we can
- 14:51Speaker 2: make it makes sense, Yeah, like a bass player from
- 14:55Speaker 2: South Africa and South African tour because it just looked
- 14:59Speaker 2: up and made sense. We didn't make a ton of
- 15:02Speaker 2: money because of exchange rate, but yeah, it justified itself.
- 15:07Speaker 2: So and obviously we're not enough for the money or
- 15:10Speaker 2: else we wouldn't be playing heavy music, so true. Yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 2: so if it, if it worked, i'd absolutely love to.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Got a lot of family and friends still back home
- 15:19Speaker 2: and obviously in Australia as well.
- 15:21Speaker 3: So yeah, get yourselves on a festival run somewhere. There's
- 15:25Speaker 3: a few of them around that would be cool.
- 15:27Speaker 2: That would be the idea. I mean, I remember, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 2: back in the day that the big day out that
- 15:32Speaker 2: that was kind of that.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Way more it's just a memory of these days, but yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 3: they were, they were really good. They that's yes, where
- 15:40Speaker 3: it started for me pretty much as well.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's because these lineups back in the day a wild.
- 15:45Speaker 3: But there's been some amazing you know tours happening at
- 15:47Speaker 3: the moment too, just with some pretty big bands. We've
- 15:51Speaker 3: been getting the goods. It's and it's like reading an
- 15:54Speaker 3: old B Day for the line up poster.
- 15:57Speaker 1: It's just like, well it's pretty good, it's pretty I'm impressed.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'm loving it.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So yeah, good, very good.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, I can say, yeah, the logistics of it,
- 16:07Speaker 3: you know, it's always good to I guess break it up.
- 16:09Speaker 3: If you look at doing that, it's helps you get
- 16:12Speaker 3: your head around the twenty five twenty six hour flight
- 16:15Speaker 3: it takes to get from here to there as well,
- 16:17Speaker 3: which that's just a killer.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I don't know how you guys do it in one run,
- 16:20Speaker 1: it would.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I've tried every way. I've tried, drinking, not drinking, sleeping, stopovers,
- 16:28Speaker 2: no stopovers.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It just sucks all around here. Don't imagine I've done
- 16:33Speaker 1: a boat then.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Back in the day, and now I can't believe it.
- 16:36Speaker 1: It's insane.
- 16:37Speaker 2: It's weeks for something on a boat.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Yeah, wild, I would be, Yeah, definitely, Yes, I agree.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I be worried about the scurvy'll be worried about my
- 16:48Speaker 1: mental health stage. Oh that's funny.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, hopefully we get to see you guys down
- 16:55Speaker 3: here soon. But obviously congratulations on getting yourselves back on
- 16:59Speaker 3: your feet, and with the shows that you've got planned
- 17:02Speaker 3: and the album that you did last year, and hopefully,
- 17:06Speaker 3: fingers crossed, that sounds like you might have some new
- 17:08Speaker 3: music coming out or for next year maybe, which is
- 17:10Speaker 3: always nice.
- 17:12Speaker 2: The plan, the plan, there were plans in the.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Works, yes, without saying too much, of course, I mean we've.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I mean, we've got we've got a lot of ideas
- 17:23Speaker 2: kind of stop pold. So yeah, that's one of our problems.
- 17:27Speaker 2: We've got sometimes got too many ideas and it's a
- 17:29Speaker 2: bit daunting to work through them. But yeah, they'll slowly
- 17:32Speaker 2: come out.
