Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Deary.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, it's gonna be a new month soon, so
- 0:09Speaker 2: why not a new open, A little bit of the
- 0:12Speaker 2: instrumental of Blinded by the Light by Man for Man
- 0:15Speaker 2: to start us off each and every show on the
- 0:17Speaker 2: One Leg Up Network. We're rebranding basically everything from YouTube
- 0:21Speaker 2: to word press to the podcast itself. We know a
- 0:26Speaker 2: hyperlink that does one leg Up Alex. Things are happening,
- 0:29Speaker 2: so why not. I'm more upbeat open and I heard
- 0:32Speaker 2: that riff and I said this would be a great show.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Open once again on Terminello's take with lou Terminello. You
- 0:39Speaker 2: like the new setup, the new microphone, the new system.
- 0:41Speaker 2: This is great here the.
- 0:43Speaker 1: System sounds great, Alex, thank you for having.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Me, Thanks for making all this ask but what a
- 0:49Speaker 2: Valentine's the gift? Gotta say? Anyway, I'm rocking the facial
- 0:53Speaker 2: hair because facial hair is back for the Yankee. Although
- 0:58Speaker 2: someone say it is back, I mean there were other
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yankees over the years that rocked it. They just kind
- 1:04Speaker 2: of diet away with the beard part. I mean, maddingly
- 1:07Speaker 2: to me is one of the most famous Yankees had
- 1:09Speaker 2: a mustache when he played ball, right.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yes. Now, I didn't realize it was forty years. I
- 1:17Speaker 1: thought it was from day one and this is what
- 1:19Speaker 1: the team in seventy three, But it was actually he
- 1:22Speaker 1: actually instituted the facial hair band band in seventy six.
- 1:27Speaker 1: So hey, Alex, it's no big deal. I'm gonna be
- 1:31Speaker 1: honest with you. It was a little strange that he's
- 1:33Speaker 1: held a press conference for the new facial hair rule,
- 1:40Speaker 1: but whatever, it's you know, it's opening day of spring training,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and why not, it's a big deal.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We got bigger fish for Fridaday because what happened on
- 1:51Speaker 2: Thursday night. According to Sports Business Journal, the most was
- 1:55Speaker 2: NHL or hockey event since nineteen ninety four, which I
- 1:59Speaker 2: have to believe is the state only Cup, you know
- 2:01Speaker 2: games the Arrangers won the Stanley Cup that since ninety four,
- 2:04Speaker 2: So nine point three million viewers watched the Four Nations title.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I thought hockey was not a popular sport here, though
- 2:11Speaker 2: the numbers are are the debunking that.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Well, you know how much of a hockey fan I am.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I know you are. I know Dabby is.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I told you that I was gonna watch the entire tournament.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I watched every game with the exception of the third
- 2:31Speaker 1: period of Sweden and Finland and the over the hockey
- 2:34Speaker 1: was riveting. Uh. These players put their bodies on the line,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and there's been injuries in this tournament that that's gonna
- 2:43Speaker 1: hurt their their individual team teams the rest of the way.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Charlie McAvoy getting an infection in his shoulder, I mean,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I don't even know how that happens. Some equipment scratched
- 2:54Speaker 1: him or something and some bacteria got got into a
- 2:59Speaker 1: into a should. It looks like he might missed the
- 3:01Speaker 1: rest of the season, and he was instrumental United States.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It's three to one victory last Saturday night in Montreal,
- 3:07Speaker 1: which was an incredible game. The intensity in that first period.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I'm not, as you know, I'm not a guy who
- 3:15Speaker 1: promotes fights, but that definitely juiced up everybody. Everybody's in
- 3:21Speaker 1: the stand.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Read about seconds means every three seconds to start the
- 3:26Speaker 2: period the game, there was a fight that's unbelievable, you.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Know, Yeah, it was. It was.
- 3:33Speaker 2: It was intense and I haven't respect for the Brothers
- 3:36Speaker 2: now more than I did before. By the way.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah know they any any team, any club team would
- 3:46Speaker 1: like to have either Brady Kuchuk or or Matthew Kuchuk.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And you know, let's face it, Matthew Kachuk showed his
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the Stanley Cup UH final last year playing with
- 3:56Speaker 1: a broken stern. Who does that a great tournament. I'm
- 4:02Speaker 1: going to make a couple of statements here as I'm
- 4:07Speaker 1: a hockey fan all my life. I love hockey. But
- 4:10Speaker 1: we always hear, not just the other night, we always
- 4:14Speaker 1: hear that it's going to bring more eyeballs to to hockey. Yes,
- 4:19Speaker 1: it will, but is it going to make the jump
- 4:22Speaker 1: that hockey is going to move up a notch in
- 4:25Speaker 1: the North American sporting UH leaders. It's gonna be football,
- 4:31Speaker 1: it's gonna be it's gonna be baseball, it's gonna be basketball,
- 4:33Speaker 1: it's gonna be hockey. Hockey's inn sport. Baseball is becoming
- 4:36Speaker 1: an itch sport. But UH, as great as the hockey was,
- 4:41Speaker 1: And you gotta give it to these guys, Alex, they
- 4:44Speaker 1: put in their life and and they played life and death.
- 4:47Speaker 1: This wasn't like this was that, this wasn't the ice
- 4:50Speaker 1: to pads like you might see in an a three
- 4:52Speaker 1: on three All star game. They played for pride, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: they played, they played for their country and they're professionals
- 5:01Speaker 1: and they're not making seventy million dollars a year like
- 5:03Speaker 1: some other athletes.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And they played full strength for the overtime and that
- 5:06Speaker 2: was huge because, as you know, in the NHL, it's
- 5:08Speaker 2: three on three, which I just after watching on Thursday.
- 5:12Speaker 2: To move it back to full all, full strength, I
- 5:14Speaker 2: think that's a better thing for the NHL.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Well, when it comes to a championship game like that,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I was so glad that it was five on five
- 5:23Speaker 1: and one thing in the in the championship game in
- 5:27Speaker 1: overtime when the United States was peppering Jordan Bittington, and boy,
- 5:32Speaker 1: every Canadian fan was saying, he's our Week Link. Why
- 5:35Speaker 1: did they pick him? Why did they pick him? He's
- 5:38Speaker 1: he's our week week length. Well, he certainly wasn't Week Lincoln.
- 5:41Speaker 1: In that overtime period, I mean stoning Austin Matthews three times,
- 5:46Speaker 1: a tremendous glove save on Brady Kuchuk, and then that
- 5:52Speaker 1: icing call which led to the eventual winning goal. Nobody
- 5:56Speaker 1: has shown that icing again, Alex. That looked like it
- 6:00Speaker 1: should have been play on. It was so close, and
- 6:03Speaker 1: they called offside against the and they called icing against
- 6:07Speaker 1: the United States. But it looked like both players were
- 6:10Speaker 1: neck and neck, but that they then they want to
- 6:13Speaker 1: face off. They wander the around. They got to a
- 6:15Speaker 1: wide open Conor McDavid. I don't know how he could
- 6:18Speaker 1: be that wide open, and he put it past a
- 6:23Speaker 1: Hella Buck and that was it. Game over, but a
- 6:25Speaker 1: tremendous game. I love these international events. I've seen everyone best.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And by the way, Lou, I've been saying everywhere my podcast,
- 6:33Speaker 2: Twitter or wherever, you want to see an American event,
- 6:37Speaker 2: you want to see Americans at their best. Go to
- 6:39Speaker 2: a sporting event, not an organized protest because of the
- 6:42Speaker 2: sporting event USA. That is real. That is America right there.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Absolutely, you're correct, So great events. Nine point three. That's
- 6:54Speaker 1: that's tremendous, a tremendous viewing audience. If the game was
- 6:59Speaker 1: on ABC, I think they would have gotten gotten it
- 7:02Speaker 1: up around eleven twelve instead of cable. But it strengthened.
- 7:06Speaker 2: How was that because because remember the nineteen eighty Miracle
- 7:09Speaker 2: on ice was was on broadcast television. This was not
- 7:13Speaker 2: on any of the two or seven. Very strange to
- 7:17Speaker 2: me because you would think that should have been on
- 7:19Speaker 2: the channel seven at least.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Well, the game on Saturday night was on ABC. And
- 7:28Speaker 1: I think if they I think if they knew how
- 7:31Speaker 1: important this was and not how important the potential audience
- 7:37Speaker 1: who got involved with this, they might have they might
- 7:39Speaker 1: have bene on on ABC. I'm gonna give you a
- 7:42Speaker 1: little historical fact BacT the Miracle on ice in nineteen eighty.
- 7:47Speaker 1: In nineteen eighty, everybody, a lot of people forget that
- 7:50Speaker 1: when the United States beat the Soviet Union on that
- 7:52Speaker 1: Friday night and that true miracle amateurs against professionals. That
- 7:58Speaker 1: game was on tape delay. It was five. It was
- 8:01Speaker 1: a five o'clock start in Lake Class ABC in those days,
- 8:05Speaker 1: it's not like now, where do you have Olympic twenty
- 8:06Speaker 1: four to seven on so many channels, uh networks. ABC
- 8:12Speaker 1: was asked, asked to move the game to eight o'clock.
- 8:15Speaker 1: The Olympic Committee said no. The Olympic Committee said, show
- 8:19Speaker 1: the game live at five o'clock. But in those days
- 8:22Speaker 1: that never happened. Either cut into the news. I remember
- 8:25Speaker 1: there was no there was no old news channels at
- 8:27Speaker 1: the time.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Primetime was much more valuable spot.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Than absolutely so, so UH that game was on tape delay.
- 8:35Speaker 1: That the most amazing event of that Olympics, of maybe
- 8:39Speaker 1: any Olympics was on tape delay. Then on Sunday morning
- 8:42Speaker 1: at eleven o'clock they showed the gold medal game against
- 8:45Speaker 1: Finland live, which the United States was trailing two to
- 8:48Speaker 1: one going into the third period. So just a little
- 8:52Speaker 1: bit of a little bit of history.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Oh no. And I found that I found that the
- 8:54Speaker 2: most interesting part of the miracle on ice because tape
- 8:57Speaker 2: delay normally means there like in Greece or Italy, you know, correct, not,
- 9:02Speaker 2: this was upstate New York, and it was. It just
- 9:05Speaker 2: it is funny.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It's probably the biggest blunder in televised sports history. It's
- 9:11Speaker 1: one of the top five for sure.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Well, Heidi bowls up there, as you know, well the.
- 9:14Speaker 1: High Bowl is up there, but this, this was worse.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But if you lived in the up on the border
- 9:22Speaker 1: of Vermont and Canada, or New Hampshire in Canada, or
- 9:26Speaker 1: Buffalo in Canada, Detroit and Canada, they were able to
- 9:29Speaker 1: see it live because it was on Canadian television.
- 9:33Speaker 2: ERUSI only walking out in the good Droe, Jersey. Did
- 9:35Speaker 2: that make your tear up a little bitter?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Well?
- 9:37Speaker 2: It was.
- 9:38Speaker 1: That was an emotional definitely an emotional thing to uh
- 9:43Speaker 1: that I really thought it was going to carry the
- 9:44Speaker 1: Americans through. I really thought once the Americans took the lead,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I thought they were gonna win. And when I was
- 9:49Speaker 1: watching in overtime and I saw that, and I saw
- 9:51Speaker 1: Matthews take in close, and you see, here's a guy
- 9:54Speaker 1: who scored sixty nine goals last season. You figure he's
- 9:57Speaker 1: gonna get one of them. And Benington did the job. Now,
- 10:01Speaker 1: they gave the star of the game, the player at
- 10:03Speaker 1: the game, to Conom McDavid, who did not have a
- 10:05Speaker 1: great game. And I know usually in Stanley Cup final,
- 10:10Speaker 1: in Stanley Cup playoffs and in big games that overtime,
- 10:16Speaker 1: but in this case, the start, the first star was
- 10:19Speaker 1: Jordan Bennington.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the guy was on his head and
- 10:23Speaker 2: I feel like he had me eating crow because remember
- 10:26Speaker 2: I probably was on the show saying, you know, Jordan's
- 10:28Speaker 2: a little older now and he's it, but look at
- 10:31Speaker 2: he went back to his twenties to win that that
- 10:34Speaker 2: Four Nations Cup.
- 10:35Speaker 1: For that No, he was a difference. I mean, Con
- 10:37Speaker 1: McDavid doesn't get a chance to score that goal if
- 10:41Speaker 1: Bennington didn't stop Matthews three times and that incredible glove
- 10:46Speaker 1: save on Brady Pachuk and you know.
- 10:48Speaker 2: What, because the Rangers may not have a chance this year. Yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 2: he's not gonna want me to hear that say this,
- 10:53Speaker 2: but it looks like they may not have a chance
- 10:56Speaker 2: this year. Just get Let just McDavid's just gotta win
- 10:59Speaker 2: the Cup. Complete it, Okay, complete it when your Stanley
- 11:03Speaker 2: Cup and then we can all move on from that.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Well, that's going to going into the postseason. That's going
- 11:08Speaker 1: to be one of the main storylines. Can conn mc
- 11:10Speaker 1: david when his first coup. So we'll see.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But I'll tell you know, there are three rivalries I
- 11:16Speaker 2: now want to see because I was alive in twenty
- 11:18Speaker 2: ten when they lost to Canada, So that's one of
- 11:20Speaker 2: the top three rivalries. I want to see the US win.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I want to see the Yankees beat the Astros in
- 11:25Speaker 2: the postseason. And I want to see the Chiefs beat
- 11:27Speaker 2: the Bills. Can I see any of that in my lifetime?
- 11:29Speaker 2: LOUI is that.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Probably you could see that in your lifetime. I'm going
- 11:31Speaker 1: to say something about the second line. You want to
- 11:33Speaker 1: see the Yankees beat the Astros. I'm not so short
- 11:35Speaker 1: the act are going to make the playoffs the way
- 11:37Speaker 1: they they.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Just seem totally dismantled. I don't know what's going on there, but.
- 11:42Speaker 1: No doubt about it. So you might not have to
- 11:44Speaker 1: worry about that.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And whenever you say about twenty seventeen, they had a
- 11:47Speaker 2: corps and that core has literally broken up this offseason long.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Oh it is. I don't understand it. But you know
- 11:54Speaker 1: what can I say?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Well that there's that. And I wanted to say one
- 11:58Speaker 2: more thing comparing NBA and NHL. So last Saturday it
- 12:02Speaker 2: was the Dunk Contest versus USA versus Canada, and I
- 12:05Speaker 2: truly believe more people watch US a vers Canada, and
- 12:09Speaker 2: I think you're gonna see more that carry over into
- 12:12Speaker 2: the into the regular season part two, right, and also
- 12:16Speaker 2: in the postseason only because you're looking at the NBA sports.
- 12:19Speaker 2: We talked about it before. Who's gonna watch one hundred
- 12:22Speaker 2: and fifty to one hundred and twenty seven game that's
- 12:24Speaker 2: not watchable anymore?
- 12:25Speaker 1: Loop, No, it isn't. And I'm going to And you know,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I have been a big critic and I was in
- 12:31Speaker 1: the you know, in the league for almost thirty years.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I've been a big critic of the state of play
- 12:36Speaker 1: in the NBA. But I'm gonna give them a little
- 12:38Speaker 1: break on people comparing the All Star Weekend, which I
- 12:43Speaker 1: did not watch one second, Alex, I don't watch one second,
- 12:47Speaker 1: to the four Nations. Let's face it. Last year the
- 12:52Speaker 1: NHL had a similar thing, that dumb three on three,
- 12:54Speaker 1: the metropol Division versus the Atlantic Division, the Pacific versus
- 12:58Speaker 1: the Central you know, those those not so attractive skilled competitions.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yet you know, so it's it's it's that's unfair to
- 13:08Speaker 1: the NBA. But as as Suban said the other night,
- 13:16Speaker 1: these guys gave their heart and soul in the tournament well.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Because it was more than just East and West.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It was six seven times more money. He said, I
- 13:26Speaker 1: don't think you can get NBA players to do that, and.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I think West it was literally country verse country, That's
- 13:34Speaker 2: what it was.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You heard what Brendan Hagel said. I'm doing this for
- 13:37Speaker 1: my I'm doing this for my flag.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Mm hmmm. What was Icier? The US A chance, that's
- 13:43Speaker 2: for sure.
- 13:43Speaker 1: No, obviously I want to see the USA win and
- 13:46Speaker 1: another thing that might help. And I know we hate
- 13:48Speaker 1: to say this, but it's it's a fact of life.
- 13:53Speaker 1: The USA Canada the game on Thursday night was the
- 13:57Speaker 1: most heavily bet game by all the sports book of
- 14:01Speaker 1: any any hockey game in history. And again I'm not,
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'm not. This betting is scary and it's gonna blow
- 14:08Speaker 1: up someday and it's not gonna be good. But that
- 14:12Speaker 1: does show you the interesting in the event, and it
- 14:15Speaker 1: all show shows you how betting, uh affects people's interest
- 14:20Speaker 1: in the sport. Alex we said a thousand times. That's
- 14:23Speaker 1: why the NFL. I know, it's a once a week thing,
- 14:25Speaker 1: so it's a little bit different. But between betting and
- 14:30Speaker 1: fantasy football, that really helps the NFL.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Right, And I we always know that there's concerns of
- 14:36Speaker 2: these players, reps whatever now an umpire who get mixed
- 14:40Speaker 2: up in this craft. Ye, there's that concern too, uh,
- 14:43Speaker 2: you know. And I wanted to give a shout at
- 14:45Speaker 2: the brock Nelson Rep Team USA and also the Islanders.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I mean I was about the four Rangers, but there
- 14:50Speaker 2: there was an Islander on Team USA this week as well.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And he hit the post the other night in the
- 14:54Speaker 1: second period. So the game that close, Uh, you know,
- 15:00Speaker 1: a post shot make all the difference in the world.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And on Monday night, the game was meaningless, and it
- 15:05Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of intensity in the swing and USA game.
- 15:07Speaker 1: They hit the USA hit the post five times.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Now right now. The other thing about these players individually
- 15:14Speaker 2: is you go back to your respective teams, win or lose.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I think you're a little more fired up heading to
- 15:19Speaker 2: the second part of the season.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Right I would say, so, Now again, the season resume.
- 15:25Speaker 1: When the season resumes, it's going to resume today. And
- 15:29Speaker 1: I wonder how many players who played in the tournament
- 15:34Speaker 1: are not playing today to rest up.
- 15:36Speaker 2: That would hurt the Rangers in the sense because they
- 15:38Speaker 2: have a game today, and you know they I think
- 15:43Speaker 2: they have a game today, and you.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Know they're playing Buffalo today.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Brighter trocheck. They're the they're kind of the soul of
- 15:49Speaker 2: that team right now.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So and t Truck I think hurt his finger, you
- 15:53Speaker 1: know in the championship game.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Is oh yeah, there were there were injuries, no doubt
- 15:56Speaker 2: about it. So we'll have to see anyway, lou So
- 16:00Speaker 2: that we're past this now and now I was watching
- 16:04Speaker 2: World Baseball Classic qualifiers because now we're into that already.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I mean, the time's flying your loop.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Well, you know what I think about the World Baseball
- 16:12Speaker 1: Classic I don't think much of it.
- 16:14Speaker 2: So, by the way, I just was thinking about that,
- 16:16Speaker 2: that's another rivalry. I want to see what because the
- 16:18Speaker 2: USA has lost to Japan now multiple World Baseball Classics
- 16:21Speaker 2: in a row. Maybe that can change one year.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I don't know they could, and you know, probably if
- 16:27Speaker 1: they can move it from March where we really don't
- 16:31Speaker 1: care for two weeks.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Actually, that's true, crute. And how cool would it be
- 16:39Speaker 2: that have a home run derby? You have like the
- 16:40Speaker 2: World Baseball Classic and even they do a derby before that,
- 16:44Speaker 2: you know, something fun like.
- 16:45Speaker 1: That, Alex. How about the Major League Baseball ESPN divorce
- 16:50Speaker 1: after thirty six seasons?
- 16:52Speaker 2: I want, you know, godress Joe Morgan soul. I think
- 16:56Speaker 2: John Miller is still around.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I know, yes he is. He's still doing games for the.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Like I'd want him on to talk about that because
- 17:01Speaker 2: he was. He and Joe were the voice of that
- 17:05Speaker 2: ESPN's Only Night for many years.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Absolutely, I actually love.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Listening to the call, especially when he's like Carlos about job.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I love that line. But you know it was a
- 17:14Speaker 2: part of our Sunday nights right it is. Now. I
- 17:16Speaker 2: think what's happened is I'm actually surprised ESPN wants to
- 17:21Speaker 2: go away. I don't know why, but it's a little surprising.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Money. They don't want to pay five hundred and fifty
- 17:27Speaker 1: million a year for the last three years of the deal.
- 17:29Speaker 1: That's a lot of money. I don't know where what
- 17:32Speaker 1: Major Leaue Baseball is gonna do going forward, obviously some
- 17:38Speaker 1: I just hope they don't sell it all to streaming again,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I just hope they don't sell it all stream well.
- 17:43Speaker 2: And you see, I don't know if this rumor is
- 17:44Speaker 2: true or not, but Netflix wants either the Fox Sunday
- 17:48Speaker 2: package or the CBS Sunday pack. I mean, they're getting.
- 17:51Speaker 1: What's gonna happen, h it's one of the streaming services
- 17:56Speaker 1: is probably gonna gonna get it in the next in
- 18:00Speaker 1: the next round of talks with the NFL, they want
- 18:03Speaker 1: a Sunday package.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And you and I can watch Netflix. I just think
- 18:07Speaker 2: it's a pain in the ass to do that because
- 18:09Speaker 2: I'm I love the two and four, two and five, Yeah, dynamic.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And if they're gonna do that, let's hope and I
- 18:16Speaker 1: assume that the technology will get better so we can
- 18:19Speaker 1: channel surf and make it easy. The channel serve from
- 18:22Speaker 1: streaming to over their regular television.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Now, if they want to take over Sunday NFL ticket,
- 18:27Speaker 2: go ahead. I don't care about that.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Don't care about there's so many games, there's so many
- 18:31Speaker 1: games on these networks. You you only need Sunday ticket
- 18:34Speaker 1: if you're a jetua. No, if you're a fan of
- 18:36Speaker 1: a team and you're you're moving from your hometown. If
- 18:40Speaker 1: you're an Eagles fan and you move into Phoenix, h
- 18:43Speaker 1: then you need Sunday ticket. If you're a Jet fan
- 18:45Speaker 1: moving to Fort Myers, Florida, you need Sunday take now.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Teams made up mind this because it could eliminate the
- 18:51Speaker 2: whole You need to sell out your stadium if you
- 18:53Speaker 2: want to be not blacked out in your market. I
- 18:56Speaker 2: don't know if that's going to be playing in.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I think the blackout rule alex is dead forever because
- 19:03Speaker 1: with the money that they're getting, if me and you
- 19:06Speaker 1: were sitting in met Life Stadium and we were the
- 19:08Speaker 1: only two, they would still be making money.
- 19:10Speaker 2: That's so true. That's so true. Well, who knows, maybe
- 19:14Speaker 2: they'll be the Jets case. Because the Jets, I don't
- 19:16Speaker 2: know where they're going to go this year, but we'll
- 19:18Speaker 2: happen to see. But those those Netflix things are going
- 19:20Speaker 2: to happen this year, right, that's a little down the
- 19:22Speaker 2: road here, a.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Little down the road. But they're they're they're alive. It's
- 19:28Speaker 1: more than just it's not a rumor. But hell, you
- 19:31Speaker 1: want to hear you know, you want to talk about rumors.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I was talking to one of my friends, one of
- 19:36Speaker 1: my contacts who works for the Jump Possibility, and the
- 19:43Speaker 1: only thing he said to me, he said, there is
- 19:47Speaker 1: some smoke to that fire.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Now, saying because your internet broke up, that say that
- 19:52Speaker 2: rumor rum more time.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Okay. I was talking to one of my friends who
- 19:55Speaker 1: went in contacts at the Giants, and I asked him
- 20:00Speaker 1: about matt to Matthew Stafford to the Giants rumor, and
- 20:05Speaker 1: he said, there's there is some smoke to the fire.
- 20:08Speaker 1: How much smoked to the fire, he couldn't tell me,
- 20:12Speaker 1: but yes, there is some smoke to that fire. Now.
- 20:14Speaker 1: That would that surprises me from two angles. I don't
- 20:17Speaker 1: know why the Giants brought Matthew Stafford, and I don't
- 20:20Speaker 1: know why the Rams are so close to winning the
- 20:22Speaker 1: Super Bowl again. Would give up Matthew Stafford? I mean,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I know he wants forty million.
- 20:30Speaker 2: But so there's the way they way, the way they
- 20:33Speaker 2: dismantled Monday Night Football, you know that that wild card game.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I thought we were under estimating them the way they
- 20:41Speaker 2: knocked out it was now but you know, to Evan's on,
- 20:44Speaker 2: I thought that, wow, we were under messing in the
- 20:47Speaker 2: Rams the whole time. They were actually really leader in
- 20:49Speaker 2: the West. So they still got it.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Stafford was a great coach and they got great young talent.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They drafted well the last couple of years. So I'm
- 20:57Speaker 1: surprised that that it looks like they can to move
- 21:00Speaker 1: on from Matthew Stafford. I mean, it is just just
- 21:05Speaker 1: very very strange.
- 21:06Speaker 2: To me, very odd. But as we said, with the
- 21:08Speaker 2: Astros corps breakup, and you know, everything that breaks up eventually,
- 21:12Speaker 2: So there's that. Because Cooper Cup might be out the
- 21:14Speaker 2: door too.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So I think that's one of the things that is
- 21:17Speaker 1: upsetting him because the Stafford family and the Cooper Cup
- 21:20Speaker 1: family are very close friends, and I think he's upset
- 21:23Speaker 1: over that. But that's the business of NFL football.
- 21:28Speaker 2: All right. Well, one of the thing I want to
- 21:29Speaker 2: talk about this week is spring training started, and I
- 21:33Speaker 2: was I was thinking they'd read the Red Carpet Persto.
- 21:36Speaker 2: It was sort of a I didn't notice all the cover.
- 21:39Speaker 2: It didn't seem like it's hyped up Sodos coming to
- 21:41Speaker 2: you know, camp, but he's there. Yeah, I know, Blane
- 21:44Speaker 2: got hit with a ball. But what's your early impression
- 21:47Speaker 2: of spring training. I know there's very early on.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I mean really, I guess the biggest the
- 21:54Speaker 1: biggest story of the week was that Soto bought a
- 21:57Speaker 1: ninety two thousand dollars tahoe for Brett forgiving him the
- 22:00Speaker 1: twenty two. So that that shows you how little information
- 22:06Speaker 1: is coming out of Port Saint Lucy. But there was
- 22:08Speaker 1: I mean, obviously the Frankie Montos is gonna be out there.
- 22:11Speaker 2: That's a story. I mean, that's a storyline because that
- 22:14Speaker 2: we've talked about before. We're pitching to the Mets have
- 22:17Speaker 2: right now and they still haven't signed Quintana. I think
- 22:19Speaker 2: they should go out and try and sign him. I mean,
- 22:21Speaker 2: he was a boog part of that rotation.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Litch Well. Again, it was a guy. He's a guy
- 22:25Speaker 1: you can rely on. He's not a hard thrower. He
- 22:27Speaker 1: hasn't gotten a bit from any team yet, which is
- 22:31Speaker 1: really strange. And apparently the Mets haven't talked to him.
- 22:35Speaker 2: So again now and I trust on this one, Apparently
- 22:38Speaker 2: Corman Burns is still a free agent. I didn't know
- 22:40Speaker 2: that was no, no, no.
- 22:41Speaker 1: He saw him with he signed with the Diamondbacks.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Well that was recent thing, because I saw that he
- 22:47Speaker 2: was on the market a couple of days ago.
- 22:48Speaker 1: So now he Uh, who's gonna be very good? Alex.
- 22:54Speaker 1: When you look at the Mets, you know, all right,
- 22:56Speaker 1: they got sorrow they resigned Alonzo. But are they better
- 23:00Speaker 1: in the Phillies? I don't think so. The Phillies have
- 23:04Speaker 1: a great starting pitching staff and they have a they
- 23:06Speaker 1: have an incredible lineup. Are they better than the Braves?
- 23:10Speaker 1: Maybe the Braves lost freed a Cone is not going
- 23:14Speaker 1: to be ready for opening day. It's Spencer Strider going
- 23:17Speaker 1: to be ready for opening day. Now. The Braves have
- 23:20Speaker 1: they such a tremendous organization. But again, the Bits may
- 23:24Speaker 1: not at the playoffs. Think about that. I mean, let's
- 23:27Speaker 1: look at the contenders right now in the Phillies, Braves, Mets, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Padres.
- 23:35Speaker 1: That's only that's only in the the East and the West, right,
- 23:40Speaker 1: and then you have in the Central. I think the
- 23:43Speaker 1: Central Division is bad, but you have you have a
- 23:46Speaker 1: team like like Chicago who might be able to go
- 23:49Speaker 1: eighty four and seventy eight and finish first. And now
- 23:53Speaker 1: I'll knock out one of the wildcard teams. So this
- 23:56Speaker 1: is this is no sure thing, my friend. Yeah, it's
- 23:59Speaker 1: great they got Soto and all that stuff, but there's
- 24:02Speaker 1: still work to do.
- 24:03Speaker 2: There's still a ton of work to do because the
- 24:06Speaker 2: pitching is just not there yet one hundred percent. Now
- 24:08Speaker 2: on the other side, the Yanks have the pitching. I
- 24:11Speaker 2: think they're still going to try and get another infielder
- 24:13Speaker 2: will have I keep talking about, we have to see,
- 24:16Speaker 2: but they bolstered their pitching and that's gonna be huge.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I think they have a tremendous starting pitching staff for
- 24:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty five baseball. I think that's the starting pitching
- 24:27Speaker 1: is outstanding.
- 24:28Speaker 2: All right, now, this will be a little fun. Have
- 24:30Speaker 2: you ever rocked the beard? Because I've always seen you
- 24:32Speaker 2: clean shaven, Louis. I've never seen you anything else except
- 24:36Speaker 2: the hair and the clean face. I have never rocked
- 24:39Speaker 2: the beard in your lifetime.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I never rocked a beard in my lifetime. There was
- 24:43Speaker 1: one time I thought about it in my early twenties,
- 24:46Speaker 1: but facial hair wasn't as it wasn't as sophisticated as
- 24:54Speaker 1: it is now. Now you have these beards where they're
- 24:56Speaker 1: nice slice and shaved down, really looking good. If I
- 25:00Speaker 1: did that now, Alex, my beer would have six collars,
- 25:02Speaker 1: maybe six different collars. So but I briefly thought about it,
- 25:07Speaker 1: like in my maybe mid twenties.
- 25:08Speaker 2: But nah, who do you think he talked to. I
- 25:11Speaker 2: feel like he would have talked to Johnny, Damon or
- 25:13Speaker 2: I don't know who else. Although Damon's about against this
- 25:16Speaker 2: whole band, which is so interesting lifting in the band,
- 25:19Speaker 2: by the way.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Yeah that that that that is. I didn't see that.
- 25:22Speaker 1: So Damon is it was against lifting the band?
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he was because he's this tradition. He was, you know,
- 25:28Speaker 2: he had to cut his hair and everything after the
- 25:31Speaker 2: four World Series because uh, you know, the boss paid him,
- 25:35Speaker 2: so he wanted to honor that.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Now now he's against the band. It's so lifting in
- 25:39Speaker 2: the band.
- 25:40Speaker 1: But I think Cincinnati Reds also, I don't know, I
- 25:44Speaker 1: think they also had it for many years of facial
- 25:47Speaker 1: hair band.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Well, that big red machine. They all look pretty clean
- 25:51Speaker 2: shaven to me, so yeah, all right, but who do
- 25:54Speaker 2: you think he talked to? Like just speculation. I feel
- 25:56Speaker 2: like he might have talked to a Labor Torres is
- 25:57Speaker 2: now on Detroit rocking and beer. I don't know, but
- 25:59Speaker 2: he seems to talk to people all over.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I heard this morning. I said, I get
- 26:04Speaker 1: that Glabor has a beer. I don't know who he
- 26:07Speaker 1: talked to. I really, I mean, I have no idea,
- 26:09Speaker 1: but uh, I guess. Like I said, it was a
- 26:11Speaker 1: good story on a Friday during spring training to to
- 26:17Speaker 1: uh get some people's reactions.
- 26:19Speaker 2: So well, I'll tell you one thing. Tom Coughlin relaxes
- 26:22Speaker 2: coaching style to let these guys play, and they won
- 26:25Speaker 2: two Super Bolt under his leadership.
- 26:27Speaker 1: That is correct.
- 26:28Speaker 2: You let these guys be who they are and not
- 26:31Speaker 2: restrict their facial hair. You never know. They could lead
- 26:34Speaker 2: into two or three World Series here in the next year.
- 26:37Speaker 1: It could, And I think the Yankees are the best
- 26:38Speaker 1: team in the American lead. I have no idea who
- 26:42Speaker 1: could challenge them here at this stage, So we'll see.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I think the Red Sox will be interesting to watch
- 26:49Speaker 2: now at pregnant, they have a bit of it.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I think the Red Sox is gonna be a little interesting.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I don't know if they're gonna be able to match
- 26:53Speaker 1: the Yankees.
- 26:54Speaker 2: A different kind of chance here, so we'll have to
- 26:56Speaker 2: about that, all right, lou Well, that was anything else
- 26:59Speaker 2: on your im for Terminal's take this week?
- 27:04Speaker 1: No, No, that that's it. I think we covered everything,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and uh, you know, now we'll be getting into March
- 27:10Speaker 1: madness and the conference tournaments and Saint Johns's looking good.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I know, I know I've seeing the red storm rising.
- 27:19Speaker 2: There's a whole thing on Vice Sports. I gotta check
- 27:21Speaker 2: it out. But Patino has been firing up his guys
- 27:23Speaker 2: every game. The Providence game, I remember that when they
- 27:26Speaker 2: were down to the half, they come back and beat Providence.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Now we know why because he had that fiery locker
- 27:31Speaker 2: room speech. So you know he is. He's a legendary
- 27:35Speaker 2: head coach. And I know he had some issues in Louisville,
- 27:38Speaker 2: but I think he's gonna be a Hall of Famer coachy.
- 27:41Speaker 1: He is and he is a Hall of Famer. And
- 27:44Speaker 1: tomorrow's a big game obviously at the Garden, and R J.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Lewis needs to be healthy, and we'll just wrap it
- 27:53Speaker 1: up here. You know, I don't think and I could
- 27:55Speaker 1: be wrong. We're not going to see a lot of
- 27:56Speaker 1: those thrilling mid major upsets in the in the tournament.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And I'm using R. J. Lewis as an example. He's
- 28:03Speaker 1: a great player. Now, he's got a lot of talent.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think he's a possible NBA player, no doubt about it.
- 28:10Speaker 1: He was playing for the University of Massachusetts. So he
- 28:13Speaker 1: goes to a mid major and then Saint John's offers
- 28:17Speaker 1: him some nil money transfers to Saint John's. So those
- 28:20Speaker 1: mid majors are losing all their guys. Drake lost that
- 28:23Speaker 1: kid to Freeze to West Virginia. His father was the
- 28:26Speaker 1: coach at Drake. He went to West Virginia, but then
- 28:29Speaker 1: the Freeze broke his hand and he's out for the year.
- 28:31Speaker 1: But that's they're gonna the mid I don't think we're
- 28:34Speaker 1: gonna see that many upsets, those great twelve five upsets
- 28:37Speaker 1: that we always see, you know, twelve Sea beating the
- 28:39Speaker 1: five seats. So that's it. But I'm looking forward. I'm
- 28:42Speaker 1: looking forward to the upcoming tournament.
- 28:45Speaker 2: And am as you remind you when it comes to
- 28:46Speaker 2: the Big East, uh of how successful John Bent has become.
- 28:50Speaker 2: I mean, this guy is all over the place. So
- 28:52Speaker 2: kudos to them going from Seaton Hall to National in
- 28:56Speaker 2: a New York minute.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Here, Lou, it wasn't a New York minute because we
- 28:59Speaker 1: heard him when he was a and he's really worked
- 29:02Speaker 1: hard in his craft. And congratulations, he's going to be
- 29:07Speaker 1: a star. There's no doubt about it. His star is
- 29:09Speaker 1: rising fast.
- 29:11Speaker 2: All right, well, I'll let him know you said that, Lou.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I'm sure he remembers you as well. So Lou, great
- 29:15Speaker 2: to talk with. He was always on Terminila's Take, and
- 29:17Speaker 2: we'll do it again. That February is almost over, we're
- 29:20Speaker 2: getting into March now. I just you know, it's great.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Well looking forward when I'm in DC next week, any
- 29:27Speaker 2: anybody try to catch a Capitol games? You know, Evetskin's
- 29:30Speaker 2: getting there, right.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, he's getting there. I mean, I know they have
- 29:33Speaker 1: two home games this weekend, so I don't know what
- 29:35Speaker 1: their schedule is like next weekend, but it's always good
- 29:38Speaker 1: to go to see the great Alexander Ovenchkin is going
- 29:40Speaker 1: to go over to nine hundred goals, well over nine
- 29:44Speaker 1: hundred goals before he retires.
- 29:46Speaker 2: All right, Terminel, thanks for joining me on Terminilo's Take today.
- 29:51Speaker 1: My pleasure
