Lucas: Today we're going to talk about places in the city. Super useful if you ever visit a French town. Luna: Oh, I love that. Like, how do I say 'museum' in French? I always want to visit museums. Lucas: Great word! Museum in French is 'le musée'. Let's say it together: le musée. Luna: Le musée. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what about a train station? That's 'la gare'. Luna: La gare. Lucas: Yes! And a park: 'le parc'. Luna: Le parc. Lucas: Cinema: 'le cinéma'. Luna: Le cinéma. Lucas: And a swimming pool: 'la piscine'. Luna: La piscine. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's use them in a question. How do you ask 'Where is the museum?' — 'Où est le musée?' Luna: Où est le musée? Lucas: Exactly! So 'Où est' means 'Where is'. You can replace 'le musée' with any place. For example, 'Où est la gare?' Luna: Où est la gare? Lucas: Perfect. Let's do a quick practice. I'll say a place in English, and you say it in French. Ready? Luna: Ready! Lucas: Museum. Now let's put it all together in a little scene. Let's say you're in a French city and you want to ask where the museum is. You say: 'Excusez-moi, où est le musée?' Luna: Excusez-moi, où est le musée? Lucas: And someone might answer: 'Le musée est là-bas.' That means 'The museum is over there.' But we'll learn that another time. For now, focus on the question. Luna: So 'Où est' is super handy. Can I ask 'Où est le cinéma?' Lucas: Absolutely! And you could answer: 'Le cinéma est près de la gare.' That means 'The cinema is near the train station.' Luna: Wait, 'près de' means 'near'? That's from an earlier episode, right? Lucas: Yes! In Episode 40 we learned 'près d'ici', which means 'near here'. So you're building on that. Great memory!
