Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Wayne the CMA's are here and Bailey Zimmerman swinging through.
- 0:03Speaker 1: First of all, dude, you did, hey did real quick?
- 0:06Speaker 2: Did?
- 0:07Speaker 1: You are crushing everything you touched? And we saw you
- 0:10Speaker 1: come in as a new artist two years ago. I
- 0:14Speaker 1: don't want to say timid, but like you were kind
- 0:16Speaker 1: of like it felt like a fish out of water, right.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yeah, of course I just changed from my mom's trailer.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Yeah, which Mom's been upgraded now.
- 0:24Speaker 5: I'm sure mom has a decent house now.
- 0:27Speaker 6: Yeah, it's it's not crazy, but she's got a garage.
- 0:29Speaker 3: She's yeah, yep, she's doing a right.
- 0:31Speaker 7: Listen.
- 0:31Speaker 3: We're not too boozie around here, now.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Listen, we'll keep stacking them. Number one, we're gonna put
- 0:34Speaker 4: Mom and Brentwood here. Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yeah, get roud of Murphy's bro.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I gotta ask you, what's been the best surprise out
- 0:43Speaker 1: of all this for you? Because, as I commented, you
- 0:45Speaker 1: felt like a fish out of water earlier. You're now
- 0:48Speaker 1: a big dog swimming in the deep end, and you
- 0:51Speaker 1: shoed to be proud of that because you've done it
- 0:53Speaker 1: in a short amount of time.
- 0:54Speaker 4: But what's been the best part of the whole journey
- 0:56Speaker 4: for you? Man?
- 0:58Speaker 6: Probably all the people, the people you meet and the
- 1:01Speaker 6: relationships you build with everybody because you get to like
- 1:04Speaker 6: not only meet your heroes and the people that you've
- 1:06Speaker 6: looked up to your whole life, but also people like
- 1:08Speaker 6: you man, like just awesome, ask people that love the
- 1:12Speaker 6: same thing, and yeah, it just I guess you would
- 1:15Speaker 6: say the community is the coolest part and being welcomed
- 1:19Speaker 6: by it.
- 1:20Speaker 3: And there's a.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Lot of levels of the country music community too, which
- 1:22Speaker 1: I don't think you realize until you get inside.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Of it, right, Yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Country music did something amazing this year, and that was
- 1:29Speaker 1: opened the door to some pretty big names that you
- 1:31Speaker 1: wouldn't put into country. Yeah, one of those being Posts Malone.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Obviously he's been close with Morgan while and in them
- 1:37Speaker 1: you're close with Morgan as well. What has what has
- 1:40Speaker 1: your vision of posts welcoming to country music been?
- 1:43Speaker 6: Like, I just think you did it like really perfectly
- 1:46Speaker 6: and it felt super authentic. And he knows more old
- 1:50Speaker 6: country songs than I do, so like I was like,
- 1:55Speaker 6: looks country smells country, seems country must be country. Like yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 6: so it was really cool. Just the way he did
- 2:01Speaker 6: it was so inspiring to me, Like as a young
- 2:03Speaker 6: artist coming up, the way he put his album out,
- 2:06Speaker 6: the way he collabed with so many people and did
- 2:08Speaker 6: it the right way too. I saw the videos of
- 2:10Speaker 6: him going in and just jamming with people and becoming
- 2:13Speaker 6: real friends, and you know, the times I've met him,
- 2:15Speaker 6: he's always the same dude. So it's just like it's
- 2:20Speaker 6: almost like the saying we made the right guy famous.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Definitely made the right guy famous. Awesome.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Last thing I want, because you're about to run out
- 2:26Speaker 1: of here. You put out a lot of great songs
- 2:29Speaker 1: over the last year. Obviously Holy Smoke has taken over
- 2:31Speaker 1: country radio right now. If you could pick one, what
- 2:35Speaker 1: is the song that you're most proud of that is
- 2:36Speaker 1: connecting whether it's on the radio or on streaming or
- 2:39Speaker 1: at shows.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Probably where it ends, because yeah, dude, I wrote it.
- 2:47Speaker 6: I wrote it with Grant April and Joe London, and
- 2:50Speaker 6: it was one of those songs where walked into the room,
- 2:53Speaker 6: was nervous about the right because I didn't know these
- 2:56Speaker 6: guys and almost canceled it actually because I was nervous,
- 3:00Speaker 6: but I was like, no, I'm just gonna go in
- 3:01Speaker 6: because you never know what you're gonna write. You never
- 3:03Speaker 6: know what you're gonna you know the people you're gonna meet.
- 3:05Speaker 6: So went in and immediately started writing the song and
- 3:09Speaker 6: it just flowed right off the top of my head
- 3:11Speaker 6: just like boom boom, and everything about the song, the production,
- 3:14Speaker 6: everything was done that day in twenty minutes. Like it
- 3:17Speaker 6: was so cool and it tells my story man, Like
- 3:22Speaker 6: I've kind of been like walked on a lot because
- 3:25Speaker 6: of just how loving I am and like caring.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I kind of wear my heart on my sleeve.
- 3:28Speaker 6: And where it ends was that song that was like,
- 3:30Speaker 6: you know what, man, I am tired of that shit.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I Am not putting up with it no more, dude.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Like, and there's gotta be a lot of people out
- 3:37Speaker 6: there that feel the same way, Like dude, Qus stepping
- 3:40Speaker 6: on me, bro Like, it's so annoying, Like I'm so
- 3:42Speaker 6: nice to you and you step on me. And I
- 3:43Speaker 6: think that's what where it ends is for me and
- 3:45Speaker 6: for everybody.
- 3:46Speaker 3: So that is probably the one that means the most
- 3:48Speaker 3: of me.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Yeah, my man, you are tight on time. I appreciate
- 3:51Speaker 4: you hanging with me.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Thinking, oh dude, anytime. Literally love you, dude, love You're badass.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Yeah, Dustin Lynch is here.
- 3:56Speaker 1: CMA Season is on man, and I gotta ask you
- 3:59Speaker 1: have been through these seas We're gonna call it meat
- 4:01Speaker 1: grinder many times.
- 4:05Speaker 4: What's something you do because this is work.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Like anything else, is like being on tour because you're
- 4:09Speaker 1: literally visiting about thirty five people.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Uh, what do you still look forward to? Oh?
- 4:15Speaker 8: This, well, I think this this time of year, you're
- 4:17Speaker 8: you're wrapping up YEP tour and music and then you're going, Okay,
- 4:23Speaker 8: what's next. For me, it's it's it's a very I
- 4:26Speaker 8: love the Cmas because we get to celebrate a lot
- 4:29Speaker 8: of songs, but then you're reminded about all the music
- 4:32Speaker 8: that kind of changed the game through the past year,
- 4:34Speaker 8: and for me is going into the off season of
- 4:36Speaker 8: touring creatively, I'm like, oh, I kind of feel inspired, Like, yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 8: let's go try to get you know, another song, Let's
- 4:42Speaker 8: go see what else is out there, and yeah, I'll
- 4:44Speaker 8: find an inspiring.
- 4:45Speaker 1: What's the best part coming out of this because it's
- 4:47Speaker 1: this and then it's kind of like landing the plane
- 4:49Speaker 1: for the year for you on the music side of.
- 4:51Speaker 8: Things, I thought you were asking me about my piloting
- 4:56Speaker 8: and I'm like, huh, I am, he says, let me
- 5:00Speaker 8: asking about No, yes.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Just professionally after the CMA Awards, like what's what's something
- 5:06Speaker 1: that you look forward to professionally as far as like
- 5:08Speaker 1: you get this behind you. Things are starting to slow
- 5:10Speaker 1: down a little slow down, but every now and again
- 5:12Speaker 1: there's still some things.
- 5:13Speaker 8: December has become the month for me of doing some
- 5:15Speaker 8: charitable work, which I love. I'm going about my hometown
- 5:18Speaker 8: to do our annual event there and then I've got
- 5:21Speaker 8: some awesome friends that are in other industries that do
- 5:25Speaker 8: some great events, so I like to pop into those
- 5:27Speaker 8: events too, and and just support, you know, and and
- 5:30Speaker 8: be a part of some good and giving back.
- 5:32Speaker 9: It feels good.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I don't.
- 5:33Speaker 8: I don't do well being home, and so you know,
- 5:36Speaker 8: if i'm if I'm off, I'm usually bouncing around two
- 5:38Speaker 8: events or I'm deer hunting.
- 5:40Speaker 9: It's deer season right now, so that's what's going on.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I know he's like trying to get out of here.
- 5:43Speaker 4: He's got a rifle in the car.
- 5:44Speaker 8: He's trying to well, not today, I don't have to
- 5:46Speaker 8: to day that a couple of days that's coming up.
- 5:48Speaker 4: We're after it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Well, hit me with do you still have the land
- 5:51Speaker 1: that we've talked about before I do.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Uh, and that's kind of becoming a process because last
- 5:55Speaker 1: time we talked to you were planting the stuff, even
- 5:57Speaker 1: doing this. If you're not home a lot, how are
- 5:59Speaker 1: you taking care of that?
- 6:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:01Speaker 8: The to do list is getting longer and longer. It's like, Man,
- 6:03Speaker 8: I think I have to hire some help.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:06Speaker 8: I know I don't have to, but I think it
- 6:08Speaker 8: would take a lot of stress off of me, because
- 6:10Speaker 8: even though it doesn't have to be done, it still
- 6:13Speaker 8: stresses me out, like, oh, I've got to get out
- 6:15Speaker 8: there and do this and I can't right now. So
- 6:18Speaker 8: it's going great, but I wouldn't change it for the world,
- 6:20Speaker 8: Like my farm is my happy place. We've I didn't
- 6:23Speaker 8: realize when I got the thing how much of a
- 6:26Speaker 8: landscape it would be.
- 6:27Speaker 4: For the visuals of what we've created.
- 6:28Speaker 8: We shot Chevrolet commercials out there, We've shot you know,
- 6:31Speaker 8: happy to have beverage commercials out there. I Mean, the
- 6:34Speaker 8: list goes on and on of stuff. We've got to
- 6:36Speaker 8: do album covers. So it's been awesome, wonderful.
- 6:41Speaker 1: What's the coolest thing that's been shot out there? You're like, wow,
- 6:44Speaker 1: shout out on that land.
- 6:46Speaker 8: It's got to be a Chevrolet commercial. Pretty I don't
- 6:48Speaker 8: know how you taught that. It's a freaking Chevrolet commercial.
- 6:51Speaker 8: It's my farm.
- 6:53Speaker 4: It's pretty cool. Professionally, you have done a lot.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Obviously, we celebrated the pool situation here in Nashville not
- 7:00Speaker 1: long ago as well. What is your plan going into
- 7:02Speaker 1: the new year to keep doing things in a great
- 7:06Speaker 1: way but also like to stay Dustin.
- 7:09Speaker 8: Lynch Man, it's it's it's kind of wild how we've
- 7:11Speaker 8: carved this path. It's only ours and uh, and it
- 7:14Speaker 8: continues to grow on its own.
- 7:15Speaker 4: It's not something we've tried to do.
- 7:16Speaker 8: And I think that's what we've recognized is you got
- 7:19Speaker 8: to you gotta nurture those seeds that start growing on
- 7:21Speaker 8: their own. And the pool situation is one, but it's
- 7:23Speaker 8: it's morphed into now, just the situation and the nightclub scene.
- 7:27Speaker 8: We've played Vegas immediately after that, Miami called, immediately after that,
- 7:30Speaker 8: Vegas called, and those are starting to pick up, you know,
- 7:33Speaker 8: and and it's it's like this new kind of genre
- 7:37Speaker 8: of I don't even know what it is yet.
- 7:39Speaker 10: You can't put your finger.
- 7:39Speaker 8: On what it is, but I love to host and like,
- 7:42Speaker 8: for whatever reason, it works that show works for me,
- 7:45Speaker 8: and now we're getting to do it in other settings
- 7:47Speaker 8: than just the pool. So next year we're bringing the
- 7:50Speaker 8: pool situation. Obviously we kick it off with Luke Bryan
- 7:52Speaker 8: down a Crashman Applia. The tenth year, it's gonna be epic.
- 7:54Speaker 8: But then we're gonna bring back to the States, go
- 7:56Speaker 8: to Canada. We're looking at different venues to continue that on.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And they're gonna kill me because they said wrap it up,
- 8:01Speaker 1: but she ain't paying attention. So here's one more. You
- 8:04Speaker 1: just said something carving our own path. I see confidence
- 8:08Speaker 1: in your eyes when you say that, carving your own
- 8:10Speaker 1: path is you have. There has to be pride swallowing
- 8:13Speaker 1: in that at some point, right, So what how did
- 8:15Speaker 1: you get to like I'm covering my own path and
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'm cool with that. It didn't start that way. So
- 8:18Speaker 1: how did you get to the point where like, yeah, no,
- 8:20Speaker 1: we're doing this our.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Way, man.
- 8:21Speaker 8: I think just try it, just trying to be yourself.
- 8:23Speaker 8: And it really it starts with Luke Bryan, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 8: having me down toply going this is the merry crash
- 8:28Speaker 8: my apply. It kind of put me in charge of
- 8:31Speaker 8: coming up with something new each year and bringing it
- 8:33Speaker 8: a little bit better and bigger.
- 8:35Speaker 11: He's done the same.
- 8:36Speaker 8: That festival has grown in a you know, an incredible
- 8:38Speaker 8: little thing, and but my portion of it has become
- 8:43Speaker 8: a bit of a staple one. It wasn't something that
- 8:47Speaker 8: was like schemed up.
- 8:49Speaker 9: You know.
- 8:49Speaker 8: It was just us being us, having fun, letting our
- 8:52Speaker 8: hair down. If anybody's been to crash for apply, there's
- 8:55Speaker 8: nothing serious about the week. It's just having fun of
- 8:57Speaker 8: being yourself. And I think that's kind of allowed me
- 9:00Speaker 8: to go, oh wait, this is a new type of
- 9:01Speaker 8: show that no one else is doing. Maybe they you know,
- 9:05Speaker 8: only we can do and that's why it works.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I dig it. DestinE Land, Thank you, brother, thank you.
- 9:10Speaker 1: It's Wayne d and Dylan Scott has taken over all things.
- 9:12Speaker 1: iHeart country.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Dude. Congrats on everything. You've had a pretty big year.
- 9:16Speaker 12: It's been an awesome year, dude. I call it groundbreaking.
- 9:19Speaker 12: We've been doing We've been doing this a long time, right,
- 9:21Speaker 12: but this year has been It's been awesome. We've got
- 9:23Speaker 12: two songs like top twenty right now.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Do you really feel that about this year? Yeah? What
- 9:28Speaker 4: was missing from years before that this.
- 9:30Speaker 12: Year is not releasing enough music. Okay, not releasing enough music. Man,
- 9:34Speaker 12: So we started releasing music and everything went up. Fan
- 9:37Speaker 12: base went up, numbers went up. Uh, everything, everything's went up.
- 9:41Speaker 7: Uh.
- 9:41Speaker 1: When it comes to that, I want to touch on
- 9:43Speaker 1: because part of part of you celebrating chart success is
- 9:46Speaker 1: a song that you have with.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Dylan Marlow right now. Yeah, what's it like.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Because you are as much as you're still grinding, you're
- 9:53Speaker 1: also well established to a mainstream country fan. What's it
- 9:57Speaker 1: like for you to be able to kind of reach
- 9:58Speaker 1: back and bring you know, the next generation of new
- 10:01Speaker 1: guys up a little bit.
- 10:02Speaker 4: No, it feels good, dude.
- 10:03Speaker 12: I mean I took Dylan out on tour with me
- 10:04Speaker 12: his first tour in twenty twenty two, and we just
- 10:07Speaker 12: became boys since then.
- 10:09Speaker 4: You know, it's such a great guy.
- 10:10Speaker 12: And you know, since this song's been released, I tell
- 10:13Speaker 12: him like, don't forget man, I'm daddy, all right, I'm
- 10:16Speaker 12: daddy dealing. You're baby deal. Yeah, I'm dealing number one,
- 10:21Speaker 12: you're dealing number two.
- 10:22Speaker 4: But yeah, don't tell him to call you daddy dyling.
- 10:23Speaker 4: That gets weird.
- 10:24Speaker 5: No, he can call me daddy.
- 10:27Speaker 4: I'm daddy deal.
- 10:29Speaker 12: No, It's it's been awesome, dude, Joe like you said,
- 10:32Speaker 12: we've had I've had number ones. I've got another song.
- 10:34Speaker 12: This Town's been too good to us right now, top
- 10:36Speaker 12: twenty doing awesome. But it's really special when you can
- 10:40Speaker 12: not only share another song that's going number one, but
- 10:45Speaker 12: with your buddies. It's really special to do that. So
- 10:47Speaker 12: I'm uh, I'm proud of.
- 10:49Speaker 1: It at this point in your career, outside of the
- 10:52Speaker 1: first number one, because that's like the first kid, right,
- 10:55Speaker 1: don't tell the second kid, But yeah, what's what's a
- 10:59Speaker 1: moment or a song that's come out there You're like,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm damn proud of that moment right there.
- 11:03Speaker 12: Man, I mean I'm proud of them in all of
- 11:05Speaker 12: them all. I mean, after the first one, you don't
- 11:07Speaker 12: want to be a one hit wonder, right, so then
- 11:09Speaker 12: you're proud of the second one, Like, all right, cool,
- 11:10Speaker 12: we're not a one hit wonder. But you know we've
- 11:12Speaker 12: had four number ones now. I really am very proud.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Of this Town's been too good to us. It's a
- 11:20Speaker 4: song about where I grew.
- 11:21Speaker 12: Up, went back to my hometown, shot the video there,
- 11:23Speaker 12: got the hometown involved, and so to me, it's just
- 11:26Speaker 12: really cool to go back to the people that helped
- 11:29Speaker 12: you grow up as a person, and then you know,
- 11:32Speaker 12: obviously they're following the music, and so to have a
- 11:34Speaker 12: song that's about that town, I'm proud of.
- 11:37Speaker 1: That speaking of that town. The song is doing great
- 11:40Speaker 1: things on country radio. What is the hardest part about
- 11:43Speaker 1: because I get from you in the times that we've talked, obviously,
- 11:46Speaker 1: family matters. Who you are makes you who you are,
- 11:50Speaker 1: Who you were makes you who you are. What was
- 11:52Speaker 1: the hardest part about leaving home to have to chase
- 11:55Speaker 1: the dream?
- 11:56Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean it never gets any easier. Fortunately for me,
- 12:00Speaker 12: I've got a wife who understands it. My kids don't
- 12:02Speaker 12: know any different, right, they just know this. This is
- 12:05Speaker 12: every week. You're going to work this week. Yeah, I'm
- 12:07Speaker 12: going to work this week.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:08Speaker 9: They call it work, you know, which is wild to me.
- 12:11Speaker 12: He's like, man, I'm living the dream, I feel like,
- 12:12Speaker 12: and they're calling it work, and it is work. It's
- 12:14Speaker 12: my job. And somebody said all ago, they were like, man,
- 12:18Speaker 12: you've played a lot of shows this year. It's like, yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 12: you should put all the shows who played this year
- 12:22Speaker 12: along with all the baseball games and gymnastics and all
- 12:26Speaker 12: the family stuff. Like it's been a lot between shows
- 12:29Speaker 12: and then just family stuff.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Hey, a year goes by quick.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Well, that's kind of this town's been too good to
- 12:36Speaker 1: us kind of gives that feeling too of like like
- 12:39Speaker 1: I am who I am, regardless of who I am.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I am who I am.
- 12:43Speaker 12: Yeah, and I think, you know, the music's different now
- 12:48Speaker 12: than what it was even four years ago. I think
- 12:51Speaker 12: a lot of that has to do with is just
- 12:53Speaker 12: not only growing up, but being a daddy, being a husband,
- 12:56Speaker 12: and get to social media.
- 12:58Speaker 4: You got to put that in there, and then writing
- 13:00Speaker 4: songs and recording music.
- 13:01Speaker 12: I've told myself, I was like, man, I'm just gonna
- 13:03Speaker 12: stay true to who I am as a person to
- 13:06Speaker 12: make all this stuff a lot easier, not try to
- 13:08Speaker 12: be something I'm not, you know. And so since I've
- 13:11Speaker 12: done that, I feel like everything is all the headache
- 13:14Speaker 12: and everything and the end of business we're in has
- 13:18Speaker 12: really become a lot easier because I can just be myself.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I can be who I am and at the end
- 13:22Speaker 4: of the day, that's who I am. Man, isn't that
- 13:25Speaker 4: an eminem song? Because I don't know what that's fine.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I'm gonna go listen to it now.
- 13:29Speaker 9: I like it.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Dylan Scott thank you brother, thank you. Here we are.
- 13:33Speaker 4: You just had a killer year.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Your your follow up song, which usually it takes a
- 13:37Speaker 1: minute for artists to have a number one song and
- 13:39Speaker 1: then come back. You're already coming out of the gates swinging.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Life feels pretty good.
- 13:43Speaker 7: As you it's I would say this has been the
- 13:44Speaker 7: best year of my life, and it's not really close. Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 7: I mean, barely twelve months ago you and I were
- 13:50Speaker 7: I think you were giving me a pity interview, just
- 13:52Speaker 7: you know, nice enough to let me come into the
- 13:54Speaker 7: studio whatever.
- 13:56Speaker 10: Oka, But I'll never forget that. I always love you
- 13:58Speaker 10: for that.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Man.
- 13:59Speaker 7: But but you know, people are learning how to say
- 14:02Speaker 7: my name, people are learning some of my songs, and
- 14:04Speaker 7: I feel like the luckiest guy in the world right now.
- 14:06Speaker 7: We started the year first number one ever, which is crazy,
- 14:09Speaker 7: mind on you, and then got to go on tour
- 14:12Speaker 7: with Luke Bryan and Parker McCollum and Sam Hunt and
- 14:15Speaker 7: do some headlining shows. And now, with a little bit
- 14:17Speaker 7: of luck, we might be and in the year with
- 14:19Speaker 7: a number one song in Cowboy Songs. So I'm just
- 14:21Speaker 7: trying to figure out what planet I'm on. Man, this
- 14:23Speaker 7: is I've dreamed about this for a long time, and
- 14:26Speaker 7: I'm definitely not used to it.
- 14:27Speaker 4: You know. We have talked to many artists, including Laney Wilson,
- 14:30Speaker 4: who I feel has taken a similar path to you
- 14:33Speaker 4: where it's a ten year town it is and has
- 14:36Speaker 4: is that a similar story for you, like.
- 14:38Speaker 7: Did you have to you know, it's it's so funny
- 14:39Speaker 7: because you moved to town and everybody tells you that
- 14:41Speaker 7: it's a ten year town.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Stick it out.
- 14:42Speaker 7: It's a ten year town and you don't want to
- 14:44Speaker 7: believe it because ten years is a long time.
- 14:46Speaker 4: So it's a lot of dirt.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Man.
- 14:47Speaker 10: Yeah, there's a lot of rocks to kick, you know
- 14:49Speaker 10: what I mean.
- 14:50Speaker 7: But it must be a fortune tailor because it was
- 14:53Speaker 7: ten years on the nose for me and then But
- 14:56Speaker 7: I will say that once the door opens and you
- 14:59Speaker 7: are accepted in the community, it is such a tight
- 15:01Speaker 7: knit family and there's so many people there to help
- 15:03Speaker 7: you and so many people to be resources and mentors,
- 15:06Speaker 7: and it is. Uh there's a special feeling in knowing
- 15:09Speaker 7: that like you paid your dues, like you know, you
- 15:12Speaker 7: played the empty bars, like you have a couple of
- 15:14Speaker 7: star scars that you can tell stories about what I
- 15:17Speaker 7: like to go do it again.
- 15:18Speaker 10: Probably not, but I'm glad to be here on the
- 15:19Speaker 10: other side.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, one star. I would not suggest you try
- 15:24Speaker 4: do me a favor.
- 15:26Speaker 1: You are still very much a fan, which is why
- 15:28Speaker 1: you got into this thing. You get into and you're
- 15:31Speaker 1: new enough where like it's still the song on the
- 15:33Speaker 1: radio is awesome when you can hear yourself, absolutely, So
- 15:35Speaker 1: tell me what the reaction is if you're out of
- 15:36Speaker 1: stoplight and George Burr's comes on in iHeart country station.
- 15:40Speaker 7: I mean, it's just ear to ear smile half the time.
- 15:42Speaker 7: I'll call my wife. I'll be like, babe, it's back on.
- 15:44Speaker 7: She'd be like, you just called me an hour ago, Like, yeah,
- 15:49Speaker 7: it's pretty special. I got an ASCAP Award last night,
- 15:54Speaker 7: which that's a big songwriting company from Mind on You
- 15:57Speaker 7: being one of the most played songs of country radio
- 15:59Speaker 7: in the last year, which is.
- 16:01Speaker 10: Such a high honor.
- 16:02Speaker 7: And I was pulling into the awards and as I
- 16:05Speaker 7: was about to vallet my car, which for the first
- 16:06Speaker 7: time in my life, I can't afford to valet my
- 16:08Speaker 7: car every now and then.
- 16:09Speaker 10: Right, yeah, it was free valets as well, hang it.
- 16:12Speaker 11: But as I was pulling into the Valet.
- 16:15Speaker 7: My song came on the Big ninety eight here in Nashville,
- 16:17Speaker 7: and I felt like that was a little godwin, going
- 16:19Speaker 7: to accept my award for my first ever hit and
- 16:21Speaker 7: having that song come on as we got there.
- 16:23Speaker 10: Yeah, I got a lootle giddy about it. I took
- 16:25Speaker 10: a video. I'm gonna take a video. I might to
- 16:26Speaker 10: put it on my social media.
- 16:27Speaker 11: It's good.
- 16:28Speaker 4: I'm gonna have to go check that out. Yeah. Can
- 16:30Speaker 4: I tell you what's so hilarious about So?
- 16:31Speaker 1: I lived Tayan, I's lived in Vegas for five years
- 16:34Speaker 1: and the Valet thing, like you kind of feel like
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm a baller on Valet, bro You're really paying for
- 16:39Speaker 1: some weird, strange individual to.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Drive your car, digs through your glovebox and whatever.
- 16:44Speaker 7: I swear, I don't have a picture to prove it,
- 16:46Speaker 7: but I swear the last time I'm valeted, I gave
- 16:49Speaker 7: my truck with a three quarter tank of gas and
- 16:52Speaker 7: I picked it up with a quarter tank of gas
- 16:53Speaker 7: labs And I was like, somebody went to Mexico with
- 16:55Speaker 7: this thing, Like somebody had some fun. I can't prove it,
- 17:00Speaker 7: but you know, I hope they had a good time.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Pressure on you at this time last year as a
- 17:04Speaker 1: new artist. Now, I don't want to say you're established,
- 17:07Speaker 1: because there's there's a strong, strong bone structure to the
- 17:10Speaker 1: house you're building, absolutely at this point in your career.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But the confidence from then to now has to feel
- 17:18Speaker 1: pretty good.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I think it's just.
- 17:22Speaker 7: I've had a hard time trying to put into words
- 17:24Speaker 7: what I'm feeling. But I think the biggest thing for
- 17:26Speaker 7: me is comfortable in my own skin, you know, not
- 17:30Speaker 7: second guessing the music I want to make, not second
- 17:33Speaker 7: guessing the artist I want to be, and walking into
- 17:35Speaker 7: a room and I still sometimes don't feel like I
- 17:37Speaker 7: quite belong, you know, seeing all the people around here
- 17:40Speaker 7: and all the superstars that are around me, but not
- 17:42Speaker 7: feeling like an impost, which is it. It's taken me
- 17:46Speaker 7: a long time to kind of cross that bridge. So
- 17:49Speaker 7: it's exciting, you know, to be able to back off
- 17:51Speaker 7: my first hit and hopefully have a second one on
- 17:53Speaker 7: the way, maybe shake the one hit Wonder title, which
- 17:56Speaker 7: is pretty awesome. And then I've got a song coming
- 17:58Speaker 7: in January that I think maybe the big song I've
- 18:00Speaker 7: ever written, and I cannot wait to put that under
- 18:03Speaker 7: the world.
- 18:03Speaker 4: So it ain't gonna end there is it a collab?
- 18:06Speaker 4: Did you write with somebody?
- 18:08Speaker 7: I wrote it with some some of the biggest songwriters
- 18:10Speaker 7: here in Nashville, who I'm lucky enough to call friends.
- 18:12Speaker 10: And it's just real life.
- 18:15Speaker 7: I have a hell of a story to tell from
- 18:16Speaker 7: my way up here, and I'm very blessed to get
- 18:19Speaker 7: to do what I get to do. And I fell
- 18:20Speaker 7: in love with country music for songs of substance, songs
- 18:23Speaker 7: that say something, songs that paint pictures that you can
- 18:25Speaker 7: close your eyes and plug your own memories into. And
- 18:28Speaker 7: if that's the reason that I fell in love with
- 18:30Speaker 7: country music, I wanted to make somebody else fall in
- 18:32Speaker 7: love with country music for the same reason. And so
- 18:34Speaker 7: that's the song that I tried to write, and I
- 18:36Speaker 7: cannot wait for it to come out in January. We're
- 18:38Speaker 7: ready for it, Brother, George Burg, thank you, Thank you.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Cmaser. Here it's Wayne D. John Morgan is hanging out
- 18:43Speaker 1: with us.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Man.
- 18:44Speaker 1: We were lucky enough to catch up with you for
- 18:46Speaker 1: the first time in our studio down at Jason nel
- 18:48Speaker 1: Deane's bar here in Nashville. How important has that relationship
- 18:52Speaker 1: with Jason been to you? And not just as like
- 18:55Speaker 1: a mentor but literally a guy who's done it at
- 18:58Speaker 1: a high level for so long as essentially endorsing you.
- 19:01Speaker 13: Right, it's been awesome, man, I think in so many
- 19:05Speaker 13: different ways, it's been insightful. He's just it's like you said, Man,
- 19:10Speaker 13: he's been around, He's he's been through a lot of
- 19:12Speaker 13: the same It's funny because we've been through a lot
- 19:14Speaker 13: of the same things at this stage of the career,
- 19:18Speaker 13: and you know, doing showcases and stuff and like trying
- 19:22Speaker 13: to get people interested in what you're doing. And I
- 19:25Speaker 13: remember him telling me, like, dude, I did a hundred
- 19:28Speaker 13: showcases and was about to leave town and got asked
- 19:32Speaker 13: to do a couple more, and the last one we
- 19:34Speaker 13: did was with Broken Bow and that's who ended up
- 19:37Speaker 13: signing him, and he, you know, took that label to
- 19:40Speaker 13: what they are now, and so I don't know, it's
- 19:43Speaker 13: just encouraging a lot of the a lot of those ways.
- 19:45Speaker 13: He's also very smart on the business end of things,
- 19:49Speaker 13: which I was unaware of a lot of things moving
- 19:52Speaker 13: to town and you know, all that comes with being
- 19:54Speaker 13: an artist and writing and all that stuff. So he's, uh,
- 19:57Speaker 13: he's been awesome to bounce things by even just learn
- 20:00Speaker 13: learning about the charts, having you know, our our my
- 20:03Speaker 13: first radio single with him on it.
- 20:05Speaker 14: You know, he's very insightful on all that.
- 20:07Speaker 4: He's smart, smart guy. So yeah, it's been cool.
- 20:09Speaker 1: So take me to the chart game, because you have
- 20:11Speaker 1: a song that's now on country radio.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Jason is on it with you.
- 20:15Speaker 1: You saw streaming success, you were seeing success that shows
- 20:19Speaker 1: radio success is almost like another notch in your belt
- 20:21Speaker 1: and you're starting to see that what does that mean
- 20:23Speaker 1: to you? To to kind of see that part continue
- 20:25Speaker 1: to circle that is making you the artist you are.
- 20:28Speaker 13: It's cool, man, I you know, friends, I don't know's
- 20:33Speaker 13: it's It's one of those songs that like, I don't know,
- 20:36Speaker 13: you don't you don't know whether it's gonna, you know,
- 20:40Speaker 13: connect with people or whether it's not. And then when
- 20:42Speaker 13: it does, you're like, oh, yeah, of course I knew
- 20:43Speaker 13: it was going to the whole time, you know. But
- 20:46Speaker 13: it's been cool to watch it kind of do its thing,
- 20:48Speaker 13: and it's it's been a slow calm. I'm honestly just
- 20:51Speaker 13: thankful to have something in the just to be in
- 20:54Speaker 13: the game right now. There's a lot of stiff competition.
- 20:56Speaker 13: There's a lot of great artists and songs that are
- 20:58Speaker 13: on the charts right now. So I'm just happy to
- 21:01Speaker 13: have my name up there.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You know, when it comes to the relationship you mentioned
- 21:05Speaker 1: with Jason, he's taught you a lot of even behind
- 21:07Speaker 1: the scenes stuff. What's a piece of knowledge he gave
- 21:10Speaker 1: you that I mean, I'm sure there's a lot, especially
- 21:13Speaker 1: behind the scenes that you're like, hey, I'm just trying.
- 21:14Speaker 4: To play music, dude. Yeah, but what's.
- 21:16Speaker 1: One of the most mind blowing behind the scenes things
- 21:18Speaker 1: that you're like, well, I'm glad I didn't have to
- 21:21Speaker 1: learn that the hard way.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 13: Well, I think one of the most recent things that
- 21:26Speaker 13: he I had talked to him about was, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 13: thankfully I started my career as a songwriter, and it's
- 21:35Speaker 13: fortunately it's allowed me to kind of fund being on
- 21:38Speaker 13: the road a lot, because I think that's one thing
- 21:41Speaker 13: people don't realize is how expensive it is to be
- 21:43Speaker 13: on the road and play shows, and especially early on
- 21:46Speaker 13: at this stage when you don't have a ton of
- 21:48Speaker 13: help and you're kind of on your own to make
- 21:51Speaker 13: shows happen. And so one of the things he told
- 21:54Speaker 13: me was like, look, man.
- 21:56Speaker 14: He's like, you've got to go You've got to be all.
- 21:58Speaker 13: In on this not betting on yourself. Why do you
- 22:01Speaker 13: expect anybody else to? He's like, you know you can.
- 22:04Speaker 13: He's like, it's he he told me those two is
- 22:08Speaker 13: just funny. And he's like, now is a time where nobody,
- 22:11Speaker 13: nobody's gonna help you financially, no one's gonna throw you money.
- 22:14Speaker 13: He's like, but as soon as it hits, he said,
- 22:17Speaker 13: people will be throwing stuff at you, So hang on
- 22:20Speaker 13: and you know, get through this this time of like,
- 22:23Speaker 13: am I doing the right thing? And I should I
- 22:25Speaker 13: be hanging on my wasted money going with it. He's like,
- 22:28Speaker 13: you gotta believe in yourself. So it was I needed
- 22:31Speaker 13: that at the moment. So it was it was big,
- 22:33Speaker 13: big words to me.
- 22:34Speaker 4: You know, I hear you, man. John Morgan CMA is
- 22:37Speaker 4: here man, enjoy the madness. Thank you, bro, you too,
- 22:39Speaker 4: Josh Ross is with us. It's all things CMA, Wayne
- 22:42Speaker 4: D and iHeart country man. Is this your first CMA.
- 22:45Speaker 15: Awards, first uh the style interviews and first red carpet?
- 22:48Speaker 11: Yeah, We've doing some other ones.
- 22:49Speaker 15: We're not.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Oh my man's on the red coat time getting dressed up.
- 22:53Speaker 11: It's gonna be good.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Let me ask you though, because for for a woman
- 22:58Speaker 1: or a female performer, that red carpet is not only
- 23:02Speaker 1: a place that you want to earn your way to,
- 23:03Speaker 1: but it's a statement for them. Are you just as
- 23:06Speaker 1: excited to be there as what you're wearing.
- 23:09Speaker 15: I'm excited to be there, probably more than what I'm wearing.
- 23:11Speaker 15: I mean, I'm really excited with what I'm wearing. I
- 23:13Speaker 15: think it looks great. I'm really really excited. I don't
- 23:15Speaker 15: get dressed up that often, but I'm definitely the shorts
- 23:18Speaker 15: and birkenstocks with socks that goat to my you know,
- 23:22Speaker 15: I just like being comfy.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So but so let me ask you this, because I'm
- 23:25Speaker 1: a I'm a for comfort first guy, So like, I
- 23:28Speaker 1: will like a shirt like this all that hang in
- 23:30Speaker 1: the back seat while I'm driving to where I'm going.
- 23:34Speaker 15: Jacket is hat in the back until I got here
- 23:35Speaker 15: and then I was like, all right, I'll put the
- 23:36Speaker 15: jacket on.
- 23:37Speaker 9: Now.
- 23:38Speaker 1: When you see a time like this, and obviously you
- 23:40Speaker 1: are on your way to the nominations and the performances
- 23:43Speaker 1: during the show and whatnot, what's something you hope to
- 23:46Speaker 1: absorb now before you get to a point where which
- 23:49Speaker 1: is coming right, Yeah, but before you get to a
- 23:51Speaker 1: point where it's tough to enjoy the evening because it's
- 23:53Speaker 1: going too quick.
- 23:54Speaker 5: I think, yeah, like that, you've.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Played a ton of shows this year from from last year.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I first discovered you last year, so I followed you
- 24:01Speaker 1: on social media watching your thing this year, Like, dude.
- 24:04Speaker 4: You a lot. You went all in. We've been twenty
- 24:07Speaker 4: twenty four.
- 24:07Speaker 15: Yeah, we've been home in Nashville a little over forty nights,
- 24:10Speaker 15: which is what crazy?
- 24:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you're it's paying rent on a spot that
- 24:15Speaker 4: you I just finally got a house. Yeah. Also you're
- 24:17Speaker 4: a rent home.
- 24:18Speaker 11: I got a home a month ago.
- 24:20Speaker 4: I got a home, So congratulations. That's a big deal man.
- 24:23Speaker 15: But yeah, I know, just uh it is. It is
- 24:26Speaker 15: a crazy when you look at it that way. And
- 24:28Speaker 15: then just I'm excited to be back. I feel like
- 24:31Speaker 15: November December for me is now like let's right, let's record,
- 24:33Speaker 15: because we've just been gone, you know, playing so many shows.
- 24:35Speaker 4: We've been to the UK, we did Australia, Canada this year.
- 24:38Speaker 15: It's been it's been a big, big, busy year.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But I love it. Well, enjoy the CMA.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Thank you unplug a little bit, and thanks for taking
- 24:44Speaker 1: time to sasashiate.
- 24:44Speaker 4: You guys think what thanks, thanksmas are here. It's d
- 24:47Speaker 4: and Nate smith when you just missing what's up smelling
- 24:49Speaker 4: each other?
- 24:49Speaker 5: We were sniffing. We were it was very like like nature,
- 24:52Speaker 5: like nature was taking over it.
- 24:53Speaker 4: You know, they feel like we were in the woods
- 24:55Speaker 4: or he was.
- 24:55Speaker 5: He was one sniff away from licking my face. It
- 24:57Speaker 5: was like, wow, that's you.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Obviously have been exfoliating.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yes, sir, I have I have great skin, great skin.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I want to ask you, you came onto the scene
- 25:05Speaker 1: country music wise, and now there's a grind that got
- 25:07Speaker 1: you to where you're at.
- 25:08Speaker 4: But as soon as you got here, it is.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Like banger after banger for you, does it feel like
- 25:14Speaker 1: all of a sudden things are just on fire?
- 25:15Speaker 4: For Nate smith Man, it's it.
- 25:17Speaker 10: Ah.
- 25:18Speaker 5: The fact that I was like, I didn't get the
- 25:20Speaker 5: joke at first, like it's so dumb.
- 25:21Speaker 4: I didn't either.
- 25:22Speaker 16: It just happened, right, It just happened. But you decided
- 25:24Speaker 16: after you said it, this is the joke is get.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Picked up punch line?
- 25:27Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, get it dude. It's It's crazy, man.
- 25:30Speaker 16: I'm just glad that people are connecting with the songs
- 25:31Speaker 16: and you guys are playing them and and it just
- 25:33Speaker 16: it means a lot to me.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I love them. Does it still blow you away to
- 25:36Speaker 4: hear yourself on the radio.
- 25:37Speaker 16: Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's it's it's a litterally incredible.
- 25:39Speaker 16: And I love getting videos like my dad and my
- 25:41Speaker 16: mom and family members and stuff like, oh my gosh,
- 25:43Speaker 16: it's on there. You know, it's really cool. And the
- 25:45Speaker 16: other thing being in the like quote unquote spotlight and
- 25:48Speaker 16: getting to do interviews. I get to roast my family
- 25:49Speaker 16: all the time. Like my dad pooped his pants. He
- 25:51Speaker 16: pooped his pants just a month ago. Why couldn't hold it?
- 25:55Speaker 16: Couldn't hold it. He pulled over and he pooped his
- 25:57Speaker 16: pants on the side of the insta him. It's I'll
- 26:00Speaker 16: tell you later. Yeah, well yeah, yeah, he's a pants pooper,
- 26:03Speaker 16: So I can do that.
- 26:04Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:04Speaker 16: When it comes to the my brother smells like beef
- 26:06Speaker 16: and cheese. He has a very very bad breath. Continue one.
- 26:10Speaker 16: I'm just saying, thanks, he's too much protein.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Let me ask you. Let me ask you this.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Your family takes videos which like on the surface like
- 26:17Speaker 1: oh they're proud, right, but you've also been like putting
- 26:20Speaker 1: out some pretty good songs So you've been on the
- 26:21Speaker 1: radio a lot lately. So at any point are you like,
- 26:24Speaker 1: are you guys surprised I'm successful at this point or
- 26:27Speaker 1: proud of me?
- 26:28Speaker 7: Oh?
- 26:29Speaker 3: Look at you did do it?
- 26:31Speaker 4: Look at you go a little fella. Oh, he's Dave,
- 26:35Speaker 4: he's doing it.
- 26:36Speaker 16: He's doing it, honey. I told you my dad literally,
- 26:40Speaker 16: and I have told a bunch of people this. You'll
- 26:42Speaker 16: see it somewhere out there. But he did tell me
- 26:43Speaker 16: when I got my record. He was like, I'm just
- 26:45Speaker 16: glad you got a job, dude, Like, just glad you
- 26:46Speaker 16: got a job. Like, Wow, thanks Dad, hell of a job.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Huh what do you think?
- 26:50Speaker 5: Huh got a great job, dad?
- 26:52Speaker 9: What do you think?
- 26:53Speaker 4: Like? I think it's called a career, dad. But this, yeah, yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 4: it's my career dad.
- 26:56Speaker 5: It's not a phase.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Listen, dude, I know you were going one hundred miles
- 26:59Speaker 1: an hour. Thanks for stopping by the hangout always well,
- 27:02Speaker 1: enjoy all things CMA, and let's let's hear some new
- 27:05Speaker 1: music at twenty twenty.
- 27:05Speaker 4: For Got you, bro.
- 27:06Speaker 9: I can't wait, I can't wait. You're gonna love it.
- 27:08Speaker 4: I love it.
- 27:09Speaker 1: It's the smell coming off you. I can smell that
- 27:11Speaker 1: new music. Is that what that sense is? It might be,
- 27:13Speaker 1: it might be I need to get the Cmas are here.
- 27:16Speaker 1: It's Wayne d and the Ochredge Boys have gracious with
- 27:19Speaker 1: their presence. First of all, an absolute honor to have
- 27:21Speaker 1: you guys here. Thank you for making time.
- 27:25Speaker 4: How has it a lot of artists have put out.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Their songs and done their thing and they're kind of like,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I'm good you guys stay on the forefront and continue
- 27:34Speaker 1: to be to be a big figurehead of country music.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Why is it important for you guys to do that?
- 27:39Speaker 17: Well, We've always really made our living on the road
- 27:42Speaker 17: in our concerts and recording albums and doing television.
- 27:47Speaker 9: That's just a part of it.
- 27:49Speaker 17: And we've we've just always been a concert act. So
- 27:53Speaker 17: we like tomorrow night when we do the After we
- 27:56Speaker 17: do the CMA Award show, we get on our bushes
- 27:59Speaker 17: we had out on the road, and we start doing
- 28:03Speaker 17: Christmas music in our regular show this week and after Thanksgiving,
- 28:09Speaker 17: it's all Christmas right up until Christmas Day.
- 28:12Speaker 9: I mean, we work really hard.
- 28:14Speaker 17: And we work several several events every year, but this
- 28:21Speaker 17: is one of those big events where a lot of
- 28:24Speaker 17: the major acts come and it's really a prestigious place
- 28:28Speaker 17: to be this time of the year at the CMA
- 28:31Speaker 17: Award show, and we're honored to be here and be
- 28:34Speaker 17: presenters and be presenting the Group of the Year award.
- 28:38Speaker 17: We've been there, we know how that feels. We got
- 28:42Speaker 17: a bunch of new groups right now in country music
- 28:45Speaker 17: that are just burning.
- 28:46Speaker 9: Up the charts.
- 28:47Speaker 17: We're so proud for them, and to present the winner
- 28:50Speaker 17: in that category. It's just just an extreme honor to
- 28:53Speaker 17: be asked to do that well.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And as guys who have i mean literally defined what
- 28:59Speaker 1: a group and or duo would be as you know
- 29:02Speaker 1: those as they kind of went like group or duo
- 29:04Speaker 1: in the award shows and then they kind of bring
- 29:05Speaker 1: it back to the group end or duo. You guys
- 29:08Speaker 1: have done that for at a high level for so long.
- 29:11Speaker 1: What are some names, whether there are groups or solo acts,
- 29:14Speaker 1: some names that you're proud of, like they're doing country
- 29:16Speaker 1: music the right way, Like we're proud that they're following
- 29:19Speaker 1: our footsteps.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot of them, actually, I think you know,
- 29:22Speaker 2: you've got some of the country music as the hottest
- 29:26Speaker 2: music in the world right now. There's nothing as HoTT
- 29:28Speaker 2: as country music when you've got Beyonce wanting to do
- 29:31Speaker 2: a country album. You've got post Alone coming here record
- 29:34Speaker 2: with all the hot young acts. But people like Morgan
- 29:38Speaker 2: Walland that's actually writing their future, and and Jaelly Roll,
- 29:44Speaker 2: Lanny Wilson. You know these people are really they're firing
- 29:49Speaker 2: up country music. It's exciting to see the own and
- 29:52Speaker 2: I don't know of another girl singer that's come on
- 29:55Speaker 2: to the scene. It's got the energy that Lanny Wilson
- 29:59Speaker 2: has and the performing ability that she has to sell
- 30:03Speaker 2: a song. And she's been around Nashville here for like
- 30:07Speaker 2: ten years now, but she just in the past couple
- 30:10Speaker 2: of years really hit her stride and becoming a household
- 30:14Speaker 2: I am now. But it's people like that that exciting.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I'm a fan of their over the young country people.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Now you Luke Colmbs and the guy had seven number
- 30:24Speaker 2: ones off of.
- 30:25Speaker 4: His first album, so that's just not fair, unheard of actually.
- 30:31Speaker 2: But then by the time his first album is uh,
- 30:33Speaker 2: he finished releasing singles. He's selling uh, He's selling out
- 30:38Speaker 2: big arenas and stadiums before his album quit, you know,
- 30:42Speaker 2: before they quit releasing singles.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Actually we got to rap here, but I want to
- 30:46Speaker 1: ask one more thing, because you, guys, if anybody scrolls
- 30:49Speaker 1: up and down your list of big songs, you take
- 30:51Speaker 1: pride in the writing aspects right, whether it was a
- 30:54Speaker 1: group effort or one y'all had an idea, what would
- 30:56Speaker 1: you say to a young artist who is excited just
- 30:59Speaker 1: to sing good songs. What's the importance of feeling the
- 31:03Speaker 1: song and being a part of the writing and kind
- 31:05Speaker 1: of living that song versus singing it.
- 31:07Speaker 17: Whether you write it or not. Find great songs, record
- 31:12Speaker 17: great songs. Don't insist on writing it if you're not
- 31:16Speaker 17: at the top of your game as a writer. Cause
- 31:19Speaker 17: you can be a great artist, but if you're not
- 31:22Speaker 17: quite there yet in the writing part, make sure you
- 31:26Speaker 17: cut great songs, because great songs live longer than you do.
- 31:31Speaker 17: Like Elvirah, for example, it is still helping us pay
- 31:36Speaker 17: our bills.
- 31:37Speaker 9: And the writer of that passed away to.
- 31:39Speaker 17: It three years ago, but it still helps pay our bills.
- 31:43Speaker 17: Songs live forever. But you need to cut great songs.
- 31:47Speaker 17: Every song in that album needs to be great. Don't
- 31:51Speaker 17: cut favors, cut great songs.
- 31:55Speaker 4: I feel like that's a model that should be a
- 31:56Speaker 4: Nasville billboard.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Gentlemen. It's an honor to up with you. Thank you
- 32:00Speaker 1: for taking the time today. Thanks season, and you cannot
- 32:05Speaker 1: have an award show with the old minion if you
- 32:06Speaker 1: did just cancel the dang thing.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Boys, how are you excellent?
- 32:10Speaker 3: Excellent?
- 32:10Speaker 4: How are you?
- 32:12Speaker 1: We're getting there, We're getting there. Funny thing is this
- 32:14Speaker 1: is the most expensive shoe I own?
- 32:19Speaker 4: Is it watched rinse and.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Repeat for you guys with this stuff yet? Because because
- 32:23Speaker 1: I'd imagine that I could see that. Yeah, I didn't
- 32:27Speaker 1: want to say anything but okay, but but it has
- 32:31Speaker 1: to feel a little groundhog day is sometimes right or
- 32:34Speaker 1: were you able to stand back and enjoy?
- 32:36Speaker 18: No, it's more U I would say it's more of
- 32:38Speaker 18: like tradition, like you know, like we we go through
- 32:42Speaker 18: the the paces that we do on this week and
- 32:45Speaker 18: all the awards and seeing all our friends and so
- 32:47Speaker 18: it's a good thing. It's not like like groundhoul Days
- 32:50Speaker 18: has a negative connotation and this is this is a
- 32:52Speaker 18: really beautiful.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Thing that we get to celebrate.
- 32:55Speaker 1: When they announced winners for awards, obviously there's a part
- 32:59Speaker 1: of like we've won before, why wouldn't when when this time?
- 33:03Speaker 1: Do you go through that at all at this point?
- 33:05Speaker 1: Or is it like we won one and everything else
- 33:07Speaker 1: after that kick.
- 33:08Speaker 19: Like all of that stuff goes away the minute they
- 33:10Speaker 19: say and the winner is like, you're just starting from scratch,
- 33:13Speaker 19: Like maybe this is not our year because.
- 33:15Speaker 3: It's always somebody isier to do it for the Yeah, maybe.
- 33:19Speaker 4: That's yeah, which means it's someone's last.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Let me ask you all this because we it's been
- 33:26Speaker 1: a minute since we've caught up.
- 33:27Speaker 4: How are things going with the bar good?
- 33:30Speaker 18: We were just in there not long ago. We finally
- 33:33Speaker 18: have I think got past all the like hiccups that
- 33:36Speaker 18: we hit and so like updating half of Nashville's now
- 33:40Speaker 18: it's now it's all the fun stuff, which is really
- 33:42Speaker 18: it's really coming along nicely and it's gonna be worth
- 33:45Speaker 18: the way, man, because every time I go in there,
- 33:47Speaker 18: I get really excited.
- 33:48Speaker 4: It's a cool spot.
- 33:49Speaker 19: Uh.
- 33:50Speaker 1: The project that just came out is like a hybrid
- 33:53Speaker 1: version of the greatest hits, right, because you had mentioned
- 33:56Speaker 1: how it's not just the big hits, it's you know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: the the live hits as well. What's your plan moving forward?
- 34:02Speaker 1: Because obviously we love those hits, but we want more
- 34:04Speaker 1: of them.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Yeah, we do too, We do too.
- 34:05Speaker 18: We've been writing a whole bunch, and we've recorded a
- 34:08Speaker 18: good little batch of songs that's been putting the finishing
- 34:12Speaker 18: touches on the background vocals this week.
- 34:13Speaker 1: So sooner or later, let me ask because obviously a
- 34:17Speaker 1: solo project has come out recently and that hasn't gone
- 34:20Speaker 1: so good.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Which one?
- 34:27Speaker 1: Uh, how important is it to let you guys be
- 34:31Speaker 1: individuals and support individual projects but still know that old
- 34:35Speaker 1: Dominion is home.
- 34:37Speaker 18: Yeah, I think it's It's kind of an absurd idea
- 34:40Speaker 18: that any artist or writer is beholding to one thing. So,
- 34:46Speaker 18: you know, we all have different outlets that we want
- 34:48Speaker 18: to explore, and you know, we, like Trevor was saying earlier,
- 34:51Speaker 18: we all have tons of songs that we write, uh,
- 34:54Speaker 18: and a lot of them don't land with Old Dominion.
- 34:56Speaker 18: So it's we are at this fortunate position where we
- 35:00Speaker 18: we have an outlet to put more out if we
- 35:02Speaker 18: want to.
- 35:02Speaker 4: So I think it's it's pretty important.
- 35:04Speaker 1: How did that conversation go and where you're nervous at all?
- 35:07Speaker 1: Or was it like, hey, I'm gonna do this and like,
- 35:08Speaker 1: of course you should, you.
- 35:10Speaker 7: Know, Yeah, you know, maybe I was a little nervous,
- 35:12Speaker 7: but you know, I think we're all adults here.
- 35:14Speaker 6: And you know, we've all grown a lot together, and
- 35:17Speaker 6: you know we're I think we're just all support of
- 35:19Speaker 6: each other.
- 35:20Speaker 1: They're like, do your thing, man, then the locks are
- 35:22Speaker 1: changed when you get home. I just painted a pan
- 35:25Speaker 1: that picture that country music bands all live together.
- 35:28Speaker 4: That's weird, old dominion. Thank you, boys, I appreciate it.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Of course. Cmas are here. It's Wayne Dy and my
- 35:34Speaker 4: man Parker mc callum. Dude, it's so good to see you.
- 35:36Speaker 4: How's life.
- 35:37Speaker 9: I'm blessed.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Let me ask you this. You look well rested. Thank you.
- 35:41Speaker 4: So that tells me you ain't getting up with the baby.
- 35:44Speaker 20: You know, I don't get up with the baby because
- 35:46Speaker 20: I don't have I don't have the milk.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Oh, they just.
- 35:51Speaker 20: Hadn't come in yet. I hadn't come in yet. I tried,
- 35:54Speaker 20: it was on there. I put him on there, but
- 35:56Speaker 20: he just got even matter. Now, last night he's at
- 35:59Speaker 20: the hotel and luckily her parents are here helping us
- 36:01Speaker 20: during the day. But you know, he was so good,
- 36:05Speaker 20: so good, and everybody were everybody was going to bed.
- 36:07Speaker 20: I was watching Monday night football and then he just
- 36:10Speaker 20: started howling. And because he was in his crib and
- 36:12Speaker 20: I'd pick him up and I'd rock and he'd fall
- 36:14Speaker 20: asleep instantly when I picked him up, and the second
- 36:16Speaker 20: I put him down, he would just start howling, crying,
- 36:19Speaker 20: I mean screaming. I'm like, dude, we're gonna get kicked
- 36:21Speaker 20: out of this hotel, dude. But he's It's good, dude,
- 36:25Speaker 20: It's such a blessing.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Let me ask you, Uh, out of the million times
- 36:29Speaker 1: I've been able to catch up with you, if you
- 36:31Speaker 1: weren't a country artist, I don't know what to do.
- 36:33Speaker 4: You feel like cut for this? So part of that is.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Being somebody who's running the road right. Well, now you
- 36:40Speaker 1: have to transition to dad life. Now then we're now
- 36:43Speaker 1: the world ways in. Has that changed how you feel
- 36:46Speaker 1: about everything on the career side.
- 36:49Speaker 20: Not on the career side. No, you know, I'm not
- 36:51Speaker 20: gonna start writing the Dad songs and stuff like that.
- 36:54Speaker 20: That's not really my jam. But and it just is
- 36:58Speaker 20: so much more of an adjustment than I paid it
- 37:00Speaker 20: at home. Like I didn't read a book, I don't
- 37:02Speaker 20: watch a YouTube video, I didn't take no class, I
- 37:04Speaker 20: don't nothing, you know. But luckily I am married to
- 37:09Speaker 20: the greatest mother of all time. I mean, she God
- 37:12Speaker 20: literally her life began the day Major was born. She
- 37:15Speaker 20: is that's been the craziest, most impressive, most exciting.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Part of all of it is watching.
- 37:21Speaker 20: How insanely good Hallie Ray is at being a mom instantly.
- 37:27Speaker 20: I mean, day one, she it's like, I pick him up,
- 37:32Speaker 20: He's like, put me down, give me back to her,
- 37:33Speaker 20: you know. I mean, it's it's uh that she's been
- 37:36Speaker 20: the biggest blessing.
- 37:37Speaker 4: She's like, you don't even know what you're doing. Give
- 37:38Speaker 4: me back now.
- 37:39Speaker 20: I don't know what I'm like, I don't know. It's crazy,
- 37:42Speaker 20: but it's it's good.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Poor girl's got to raise two kids now now.
- 37:45Speaker 20: She's definitely him and I are learning at the same
- 37:46Speaker 20: pace and the same things.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I have a cool story to tell you once we
- 37:50Speaker 1: wrap here, so I'll make it quick. But last time
- 37:53Speaker 1: we talked, you had said that it kind of has
- 37:56Speaker 1: been a slow burn overtime.
- 37:57Speaker 4: But mental health is something that you've been able to prioritize.
- 37:59Speaker 4: You talk of your buddies about it.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Where you with that journey and how are you prioritizing
- 38:03Speaker 1: things now?
- 38:04Speaker 20: Man, I've been having this conversation actually a lot this week, and.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Because this week could burn right, because it doesn't you're
- 38:12Speaker 1: not slowing down any You had to fit this in right.
- 38:14Speaker 20: Yeah, it's just I mean, it's work, man, It's it
- 38:16Speaker 20: doesn't matter what you're poor and concrete or singing country songs. Man,
- 38:18Speaker 20: it's it's work and you better get to it. And
- 38:21Speaker 20: I love to work. I like to do a lot.
- 38:23Speaker 20: I like to work hard and earn it. I like
- 38:24Speaker 20: to earn every single thing that we get in this business.
- 38:27Speaker 20: But effort is the answer. Effort is the answer. If
- 38:32Speaker 20: you're struggling in any way mentally, whatsoever, home, work, whatever,
- 38:37Speaker 20: step back, figure out what you need to do, and
- 38:39Speaker 20: put the effort in and do the things you say
- 38:41Speaker 20: you're going to do. And that fixes all my problems
- 38:44Speaker 20: when I'm when I when I start cutting corners and
- 38:47Speaker 20: getting a little lazy and I'm not doing the small
- 38:49Speaker 20: things and focusing on the details and putting the work
- 38:52Speaker 20: and the effort in, whether it's in the gym or
- 38:54Speaker 20: on stage, or in the studio or at home as
- 38:55Speaker 20: a dad and husband, whatever, that's when it starts to
- 38:58Speaker 20: slip from me.
- 38:59Speaker 4: So put the effort in. Listen, enjoy the CMA festivities.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Brother appreciates you, Thank you man. Thanks glad to be here.
- 39:05Speaker 1: CMA season and the Boys and Parmily are here in
- 39:07Speaker 1: fantastic spirits.
- 39:08Speaker 4: It is an amazing time to celebrate country music. How
- 39:11Speaker 4: we feeling overall? Great man, wonderful.
- 39:12Speaker 21: We're just coming off our biggest year we've ever had
- 39:15Speaker 21: as a band, which is unbelievable, biggest four or five
- 39:19Speaker 21: years have been amazing for us.
- 39:20Speaker 4: And got a new.
- 39:21Speaker 14: Song coming out.
- 39:22Speaker 21: We got a new album coming out, just announced a
- 39:24Speaker 21: tour today a society man.
- 39:26Speaker 4: It's a good time to be partially ready, no matter what,
- 39:29Speaker 4: it's a good time to be parmally. What what made
- 39:32Speaker 4: this year so successful for y'all?
- 39:34Speaker 1: As you look back and you're like, you just said,
- 39:35Speaker 1: this is, you know, a massive year for y'all as
- 39:37Speaker 1: a band.
- 39:38Speaker 4: What makes it that we well.
- 39:40Speaker 21: You know, we started the tour of the year off
- 39:42Speaker 21: with the Cane Brown Tyler Hubber Tour, which was absolutely amazing.
- 39:47Speaker 21: Kind of went on to do our own thing, been
- 39:49Speaker 21: recording you know, songs, kind of getting this album lined up,
- 39:52Speaker 21: and then we do the concert for Carolina's with Eric Church.
- 39:55Speaker 4: And Luke Colmbs.
- 39:56Speaker 21: They help our people back home to get you know
- 39:58Speaker 21: that went through the flood and I'm gonna love you
- 40:01Speaker 21: sitting at like number four right now.
- 40:03Speaker 4: It's great.
- 40:04Speaker 21: And then we just got to go to Turks and
- 40:05Speaker 21: Caicos for about a week and do it, you know,
- 40:08Speaker 21: a little little thing there.
- 40:10Speaker 14: It might be a new thing, it might be a
- 40:12Speaker 14: new thing, as it should be.
- 40:13Speaker 21: And then we went from there, and then we did
- 40:15Speaker 21: a couple of shows in Florida, and then hited the
- 40:17Speaker 21: Disney World to.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Do a couple of shows. And then now we're here.
- 40:20Speaker 4: It's good stuff, living your best life.
- 40:22Speaker 1: But I do want to say with that, with pounding
- 40:24Speaker 1: the pavement comes a little man, I could really use
- 40:28Speaker 1: a break. So at what point are we taking a
- 40:30Speaker 1: break here? Because you have to work that in you'll
- 40:31Speaker 1: go nuts.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Well, we have one show this week, this week that
- 40:34Speaker 4: we're done. We are you done for the year. Now
- 40:37Speaker 4: we have a couple of little you have your radio shows.
- 40:39Speaker 4: You know everybody's doing the christmastuff. You don't have to
- 40:42Speaker 4: try that hard at those. No, that's easy. That's the
- 40:44Speaker 4: bus is getting parked this this weekend. When it gets back.
- 40:47Speaker 4: When the bus is parked, we're done. We're done. Okay,
- 40:49Speaker 4: good deal, good deal. So one of the things fire
- 40:51Speaker 4: up then uh for you guys, once once the year
- 40:54Speaker 4: turns the end.
- 40:54Speaker 21: Of February, the stars beginning of February, it'll start, Jane, you're.
- 41:00Speaker 4: Not joining the until later.
- 41:02Speaker 21: Yeah, I've got things I gotta do starting in the
- 41:04Speaker 21: top of December, just kind of some just you know,
- 41:09Speaker 21: tour things.
- 41:09Speaker 1: I feel you well, So let me ask you that, because,
- 41:12Speaker 1: like an athlete takes time away, they're in off season, right,
- 41:15Speaker 1: not that you get an off season, but there is
- 41:16Speaker 1: a healthy pocket where you take a break. How do
- 41:18Speaker 1: you make sure the next time you pick up an
- 41:20Speaker 1: instrument or you know, slide up to a microphone, that
- 41:24Speaker 1: you're staying sharp.
- 41:25Speaker 13: Well during our break, we're gonna be doing a lot
- 41:26Speaker 13: of rehearsals, so it's not really it's a break from
- 41:30Speaker 13: the road, but we're gonna keep all working.
- 41:32Speaker 21: I think you gotta like stay away long enough to
- 41:35Speaker 21: get the bug back.
- 41:36Speaker 4: That's that's the key to it.
- 41:38Speaker 21: Like, man, you know, every time we go back home,
- 41:39Speaker 21: we love it. We have so much fun when you
- 41:41Speaker 21: fall in on that being home, you hunt fish and
- 41:43Speaker 21: you see family. But but but we always said that
- 41:47Speaker 21: when we're coming back in you just have a whole
- 41:49Speaker 21: new like energy when you're coming back into Nashville and
- 41:50Speaker 21: you're driving and you see you see the downtown and
- 41:53Speaker 21: you head back and you know you got something, something
- 41:55Speaker 21: to do, something on the agenda. You're ready to get back,
- 41:57Speaker 21: You're ready to get back on the bus, You're ready
- 41:58Speaker 21: to row.
- 41:59Speaker 4: I mean, we we just we just love it. Man, Listen.
- 42:01Speaker 1: The last thing I want to say to you guys
- 42:02Speaker 1: is we see on Instagram when you're listening locally here
- 42:05Speaker 1: in Nashville to the Big ninety eight, you still share
- 42:07Speaker 1: the excitement of hearing yourselves on the radio. Why is
- 42:11Speaker 1: that something that doesn't lose it shine for y'all?
- 42:14Speaker 4: I noticed that this morning.
- 42:15Speaker 21: I didn't hear a song, but I was going through
- 42:17Speaker 21: listening to the radio, listening to the playlist, to seeing
- 42:21Speaker 21: who was coming up, listening.
- 42:22Speaker 4: To new songs. I'm always trying to see who's in town,
- 42:25Speaker 4: what's going on.
- 42:25Speaker 21: And I said, don't ever forget you were up and
- 42:29Speaker 21: coming and you didn't have anybody in Nashville. You knew
- 42:32Speaker 21: you just had a dream to be on the radio,
- 42:34Speaker 21: to get to town and maybe get a record deal.
- 42:36Speaker 21: And I was like, don't ever forget that, because the
- 42:38Speaker 21: moment you forget that, what are you doing here? Because
- 42:41Speaker 21: I don't ever forget that excitement. And I always tell
- 42:44Speaker 21: the guys like, if you ever hear on the radio,
- 42:45Speaker 21: you got to turn it up. You can't turn it
- 42:47Speaker 21: out because I mean, you have spent That's a dream
- 42:50Speaker 21: of an artist to write a.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Song or be a band and to hear it on
- 42:54Speaker 4: the radio. It's always been addressing. Keep tagging us on Instagram.
- 42:57Speaker 4: I appreciate it. Thank y'all.
- 43:00Speaker 1: It's Wayne d Riley Green is here with us, the
- 43:02Speaker 1: latest name up in lights in Nashville. Man, how are
- 43:04Speaker 1: things going with the duck?
- 43:05Speaker 4: Now?
- 43:05Speaker 11: Wow?
- 43:06Speaker 4: Cool?
- 43:06Speaker 17: Is that?
- 43:06Speaker 4: Man? That's wild to me?
- 43:08Speaker 11: You gotta go over there and check it out.
- 43:09Speaker 1: What I so, here's the thing I did, and I
- 43:11Speaker 1: tried the whole mention me to get free drinks.
- 43:14Speaker 4: Thing didn't worth You don't do that?
- 43:16Speaker 11: Oh no, you went to the wrong ball serving at.
- 43:17Speaker 4: The other bar. What's that experience like? And why'd you
- 43:22Speaker 4: sign off on it so quick?
- 43:23Speaker 1: Well?
- 43:23Speaker 22: I never thought I would be in the bar business
- 43:25Speaker 22: by any means. I certainly didn't need another project, but
- 43:28Speaker 22: I just love that area. Steve Ford, it's my partner
- 43:30Speaker 22: on that bar. Is owned Losers and Winners for years
- 43:32Speaker 22: and Whiskey Jam was one of the first places I
- 43:35Speaker 22: played in Nashville, and it was in that building in
- 43:37Speaker 22: Winners which is now Riley Green's duck Line. So it's
- 43:40Speaker 22: cool to kind of have a full circle moment with
- 43:42Speaker 22: that building. Every relationship I've made in town as far
- 43:44Speaker 22: as songwriters and artists was right there, you know, And
- 43:47Speaker 22: that's where I.
- 43:48Speaker 11: Really like to hang out at.
- 43:49Speaker 22: And it's cool to watch now a building that's got
- 43:51Speaker 22: my name on it have these up and coming artists
- 43:53Speaker 22: and songwriters come in, tell their story and play and
- 43:55Speaker 22: maybe get a break like I did.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Is any part of you?
- 43:58Speaker 1: And I know the answer is not right now, because
- 44:00Speaker 1: if anyone falls you on social media or pays attention
- 44:02Speaker 1: to your music, not many days off for you. But
- 44:07Speaker 1: when things may be slow down a little bit, do
- 44:09Speaker 1: you hope to be more hands on with the artists
- 44:10Speaker 1: that are there at some point?
- 44:12Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 44:12Speaker 11: I think so. I think every artist is.
- 44:14Speaker 22: You know, when you have the opportunities that I've got,
- 44:15Speaker 22: there are certain ways you can help out other artists.
- 44:17Speaker 22: We're taking a lot of people on tour next year
- 44:19Speaker 22: Damn Country Music Tour and just taking out artists that
- 44:23Speaker 22: I'm a fan of songwriters that I believe in. I
- 44:26Speaker 22: think that's one thing that's kind of cool about this
- 44:27Speaker 22: genre is everybody's kind of been where I'm at, and
- 44:29Speaker 22: I've been where they are, and everybody wants to help
- 44:31Speaker 22: each other out. I think that's something pretty special to
- 44:33Speaker 22: country music.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Obviously, one of your biggest songs is talking about the
- 44:36Speaker 1: loss of a grandfather, which is a fantastic song. Your
- 44:41Speaker 1: latest song is more upbeaten, kind of a different version
- 44:45Speaker 1: of losing somebody.
- 44:46Speaker 11: Yeah, you can't just write songs.
- 44:48Speaker 22: Maybe we want to cry all day, you know. I
- 44:50Speaker 22: mean that's kind of where I live at as a songwriter.
- 44:51Speaker 22: I love those emotional type songs. But damn good day
- 44:54Speaker 22: to Leave is a fun breakup song, if there is
- 44:57Speaker 22: such a thing.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Well, it's funny because anytime I talk about him, like
- 44:59Speaker 1: finally a breakup song for guys, because we've heard Taylor
- 45:02Speaker 1: Swift breakup songs for a long time.
- 45:03Speaker 22: Yeah, man, I love I love the thought of she left,
- 45:06Speaker 22: but the Fisher binding. So I guess it's okay. Maybe
- 45:09Speaker 22: girls don't like that song as much.
- 45:10Speaker 4: What's what's her in perspective?
- 45:12Speaker 11: Yeah, you said it.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this about that. Then, do
- 45:16Speaker 1: you think tempo when you're releasing songs like, oh, hey,
- 45:19Speaker 1: you know, maybe I went slow here here, let's give
- 45:22Speaker 1: country radios.
- 45:22Speaker 22: I think when you start building an album, you know,
- 45:24Speaker 22: don't mind if I do. I think one of my
- 45:26Speaker 22: favorite things about that album has got a lot of
- 45:27Speaker 22: different types of songs on it, and that's one of
- 45:29Speaker 22: those that makes you want to roll the window down
- 45:31Speaker 22: and turn the radio up and uh, you know, you
- 45:33Speaker 22: got to have those on there. So I think when
- 45:35Speaker 22: you go in the right you just try to write
- 45:37Speaker 22: the best song you can, whatever idea you come up with.
- 45:39Speaker 22: But when you start building an album, you certainly think
- 45:41Speaker 22: about tempo's and trying to build a complete project.
- 45:44Speaker 1: So I want to ask you, as a as a
- 45:46Speaker 1: songwriter two part question, what's the song you can't believe
- 45:49Speaker 1: you wrote? Or We're a part of the Right. And
- 45:51Speaker 1: what's the song you wish you wrote or We're a
- 45:53Speaker 1: part of the Right? Could be could be all time
- 45:56Speaker 1: as far as wish, or it could be something current.
- 45:58Speaker 22: Yeah, Well, I mean I wish Grandpa's Never Died is
- 46:00Speaker 22: one of those that really just came together for me.
- 46:02Speaker 22: I wrote it strictly as a tribute to my grendaddies
- 46:04Speaker 22: didn't have any plans, but being on an album or anything.
- 46:08Speaker 22: You know, Jesus Saves is one that saw my album
- 46:10Speaker 22: this time.
- 46:10Speaker 11: That's kind of that way.
- 46:11Speaker 22: It just kind of came together and the story seems
- 46:13Speaker 22: to be something that means a lot to people. So
- 46:14Speaker 22: that's that's always really cool and kind of surprises me
- 46:17Speaker 22: when something really gets, you know, resonates with people like that.
- 46:20Speaker 22: As far as the song I wish I had written,
- 46:22Speaker 22: there's millions of those in color by Jamie Johnson's always
- 46:25Speaker 22: been one of my favorites. I still played at every show,
- 46:27Speaker 22: so that'd be one I wish.
- 46:28Speaker 4: I would be together at Whiskey Fest.
- 46:31Speaker 11: Yeah, and that was Yeah, that's awesome.
- 46:34Speaker 14: Man.
- 46:34Speaker 1: When it comes to country music, what's a relationship that
- 46:36Speaker 1: you value the most, not necessarily professionally, but kind of
- 46:41Speaker 1: has helped you nurture into the man and artists you
- 46:43Speaker 1: are in country today.
- 46:44Speaker 22: There's been a lot of people helped me out along
- 46:46Speaker 22: the way. Jamie's one of them for sure. Randy Owen's
- 46:49Speaker 22: another guy that's always been a really good mentor to me.
- 46:51Speaker 22: He's from Fort Payne, Alabama, obviously the lead singer of Alabama,
- 46:55Speaker 22: and went to college at jacksonvill State where I played
- 46:57Speaker 22: football at and we met through the college, and he's
- 46:59Speaker 22: all has been one to give me advice even when
- 47:01Speaker 22: I didn't ask for it, which is very helpful because
- 47:03Speaker 22: he's I think up forty something number ones, you know,
- 47:05Speaker 22: and he's had quite a career.
- 47:07Speaker 1: You're on your way with my friend. Hey, enjoy all
- 47:09Speaker 1: things CMA. And I'm an when are you serving at
- 47:12Speaker 1: the bar?
- 47:12Speaker 11: I'm coming out all at me, man, I'll take care
- 47:14Speaker 11: of it.
- 47:14Speaker 4: I got your brother Riley Green. Thank you, brother.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Sorry, that's what we're talking to me talking.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Yeah, all ever go, I try and make it good. Sam,
- 47:24Speaker 4: You're a man, you always have man.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Sam hauntanging. It's CMA time, Wayne d and iHeart country man.
- 47:29Speaker 1: First of all, you look fantastic.
- 47:31Speaker 4: Thank you. We're moving past that. And the beard is
- 47:34Speaker 4: on point too. Thank you. Man. You're coming in the
- 47:36Speaker 4: woods for a month.
- 47:37Speaker 19: So I was looking pretty scraffy about four days ago,
- 47:38Speaker 19: but I got cleaned up.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Let me ask you, because the way you're putting out
- 47:41Speaker 1: music right now, it's like kind of the way everybody
- 47:44Speaker 1: is doing it. Is it hard for you as a
- 47:46Speaker 1: guy who really is I feel like your songwriter first,
- 47:49Speaker 1: your heart feels songwriter.
- 47:50Speaker 4: First, Am I right there?
- 47:51Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 47:51Speaker 4: Absolutely yeah. I mean unless you finish the question, well no, so.
- 47:56Speaker 1: So, but with that, like you're putting out music different
- 47:59Speaker 1: than you have a because it's it used to be
- 48:01Speaker 1: here's this album, and then it was like here's a
- 48:03Speaker 1: couple songs, here's this album, and now it's kind of
- 48:05Speaker 1: like here's a song, here's a song, here's a song.
- 48:08Speaker 4: Is that on purpose? Are you just kind of like
- 48:09Speaker 4: I'm just gonna enjoy the journey?
- 48:11Speaker 19: I think it's on purpose. I think more than anything,
- 48:14Speaker 19: it's I'm worried. I don't know exactly how long an
- 48:17Speaker 19: album will take to put out, so to go dark
- 48:21Speaker 19: without putting out any music for say, two three years
- 48:25Speaker 19: has been a little intimidating. I think if I want
- 48:28Speaker 19: to put out an album, which I'd like to, I'm
- 48:30Speaker 19: just gonna have to bite the bullet and just hope
- 48:32Speaker 19: that people are still interested in two three years get
- 48:35Speaker 19: out of here, of course, But so yeah, we'll see
- 48:41Speaker 19: how it plays out. But it's hard to sit on
- 48:43Speaker 19: songs too, So like this recent song, I'll put out Liberty.
- 48:47Speaker 19: I might have otherwise waited for the album to be ready,
- 48:50Speaker 19: or an album to be ready to put it out.
- 48:52Speaker 19: But I started to get the itch to put a
- 48:54Speaker 19: song out. You start to feel like, Okay, this sentiment
- 48:57Speaker 19: really matches the time that we're in right now. So
- 49:00Speaker 19: will this song be as relevant in two years the
- 49:03Speaker 19: sentiment of this song? And so those are things I
- 49:06Speaker 19: think about. But the biggest thing is just being worried
- 49:10Speaker 19: about going too long without putting anything out.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Take me through the process.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Now, when you still hear your songs on the radio,
- 49:16Speaker 1: is it is it still a moment that you're able
- 49:17Speaker 1: to stand back and appreciate if you're driving in the car.
- 49:20Speaker 19: Yeah, absolutely, I mean the radio is the pinnacle to
- 49:24Speaker 19: make it on to the radio, you know, even still like,
- 49:30Speaker 19: you know, the idea that there are young folks back
- 49:34Speaker 19: home riding around in their trucks listening to the same
- 49:37Speaker 19: station as I grew up listening to, and and my
- 49:40Speaker 19: song might come on.
- 49:41Speaker 4: It's just mind blowing to me. So absolutely, what's the
- 49:45Speaker 4: what's the downtime the rest of the year for you?
- 49:46Speaker 4: You're gonna go back into the woods for a month?
- 49:49Speaker 4: Well I did.
- 49:51Speaker 19: In the heat of the touring season, I started booking
- 49:53Speaker 19: a bunch of a bunch of these hunting trips this fall,
- 49:56Speaker 19: bird hunting trips. And I found out about two months
- 49:59Speaker 19: ago that we've got a baby on the way. So, uh,
- 50:02Speaker 19: Hannah started feeling really sick, and so I was gone
- 50:05Speaker 19: for three or four days at a time. She's at
- 50:06Speaker 19: home with two kids sick. So I'm having to rearrange
- 50:09Speaker 19: some of my plans. But she's still gonna let me. Uh,
- 50:13Speaker 19: I'm not letting me. She I'm still gonna get out
- 50:15Speaker 19: and do a couple uh abbreviated versions of them.
- 50:19Speaker 4: So it's a it's let you. Is this news? Is
- 50:25Speaker 4: this breaking news?
- 50:26Speaker 19: I've talked about maybe not on like on air or
- 50:30Speaker 19: anything like that, just at my show. I'm as soon
- 50:32Speaker 19: as I got the green light to tell people I've
- 50:34Speaker 19: been telling just working into every conversation, dude, thank.
- 50:37Speaker 4: You, yeah, absolutely and everything else.
- 50:41Speaker 19: I'm obsessed with it and very just I just feel
- 50:43Speaker 19: very blessed to have another one on the way.
- 50:45Speaker 4: Amen, man, Thank you, dude, Yeah man, thank you, brother.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Take pictures and get out of here.
- 50:50Speaker 1: C M A Award season is taking over Nashville. It's
- 50:52Speaker 1: Wayne d and Scotty mcquery.
- 50:54Speaker 4: Man.
- 50:54Speaker 1: It's it's awesome because sure, you're here for country music,
- 50:57Speaker 1: but usually we start talking hockey.
- 50:59Speaker 14: Yeah, that's pretty I know. I look forward to seeing
- 51:02Speaker 14: you so we can talk.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Well let's start there. Because everyone wants to talk music,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I want to talk hockey. You're a big Canes fan,
- 51:09Speaker 1: hometown squad. Have you been able to enjoy any hockey
- 51:11Speaker 1: at this season?
- 51:12Speaker 23: We've been busy on the road, but I've made I've
- 51:13Speaker 23: made a game we do watch on the road too.
- 51:16Speaker 23: And man, we all thought we lost a few key
- 51:19Speaker 23: players over the off season. We thought we might take
- 51:21Speaker 23: a step back. But they look better than they had
- 51:23Speaker 23: the last few years. So we just got to keep
- 51:25Speaker 23: that going to the playoffs. You know, it's a long season.
- 51:27Speaker 4: And have we have you strapped on skates recently at all?
- 51:30Speaker 23: It's been a minute for me every now and then
- 51:32Speaker 23: on the road, like playing arena that has a rink
- 51:35Speaker 23: attached to it for like practice and stuff, and we
- 51:37Speaker 23: get to do that. So I'm like a baby deer
- 51:40Speaker 23: at first, and then I get going, you know. So
- 51:42Speaker 23: See the thing is I can go, I can't stop.
- 51:44Speaker 4: Usually I'm like a just I slowly turned my whole
- 51:48Speaker 4: or just go full speed and just go into the wall.
- 51:50Speaker 1: That's why that's usually there's a small child there, So
- 51:53Speaker 1: I'm like, makes sense. Listen, CMA Award season is special.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Speaking of hockey and hockey building right across the street
- 52:00Speaker 1: Bridgetone Arena.
- 52:02Speaker 4: You have done this. I'm not gonna make you sound
- 52:05Speaker 4: like the old guy, but this ain't your first real
- 52:07Speaker 4: young guy.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Yeah right, it's a strange thing, but yeah, you still
- 52:10Speaker 1: could continue to create music at a high level.
- 52:12Speaker 4: What is a weekend? I would say weekend? What what
- 52:15Speaker 4: is this experience? Like? It always feels like it's a weekend,
- 52:17Speaker 4: doesn't it.
- 52:18Speaker 23: I mean, yeah, there's a lot going on, for sure,
- 52:19Speaker 23: and you see a lot of people and a lot
- 52:21Speaker 23: of parties and stuff. It feels good, you know, it's
- 52:23Speaker 23: always good to get everybody together in one room.
- 52:25Speaker 14: You see a lot of old faces. You get to
- 52:27Speaker 14: celebrate country music.
- 52:29Speaker 4: You know.
- 52:29Speaker 23: I don't know how other people feel. I don't look
- 52:31Speaker 23: at it as a competition at all. You know, there's
- 52:32Speaker 23: different nominations, but I'm rooting for country music. I'm rooting
- 52:36Speaker 23: for these folks out there grinding their tails off, you know,
- 52:38Speaker 23: and are very deservedly nominated.
- 52:41Speaker 4: So it's it's fun to celebrate country music.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Speaking to that, I asked a question yesterday that I
- 52:45Speaker 1: wanted to hang on to for certain people, and you
- 52:47Speaker 1: were one of them, because you have your own way.
- 52:51Speaker 1: You have you have this like throwback delivery, but also
- 52:55Speaker 1: like you do it your own way in like this
- 52:57Speaker 1: modern style.
- 52:58Speaker 4: And I'm sure you've heard something similar before.
- 53:01Speaker 1: But with that, from the day you started to today,
- 53:04Speaker 1: country music is definitely in a better place. It's more
- 53:08Speaker 1: mainstream than it maybe ever has been. Why do you
- 53:10Speaker 1: feel like country music's success is at an all time
- 53:14Speaker 1: high right now?
- 53:15Speaker 4: There's a lot of different factors in that.
- 53:16Speaker 23: You know, I think number one, country music has always
- 53:19Speaker 23: been about the song, and I think more people are
- 53:20Speaker 23: getting to hear the songs. You know, I think there's
- 53:22Speaker 23: a lot of eyes on country music. I think country
- 53:24Speaker 23: music has been very accepting into other people that are
- 53:26Speaker 23: loving country, that want to come into country. You know,
- 53:28Speaker 23: we got Post Malone's doing his thing, and Beyonce was
- 53:32Speaker 23: kind of doing her thing, and I think Machine Gun
- 53:34Speaker 23: Kelly's wanting to do a little bit. So it's like
- 53:36Speaker 23: people love country, they want to be a part of it.
- 53:37Speaker 23: And you know, I think for the most part, everybody
- 53:40Speaker 23: was like, we're all about it more than mayor or
- 53:41Speaker 23: bring one bring them all and.
- 53:43Speaker 14: It's fun to just hear the different takes on country.
- 53:47Speaker 1: If one of those artists comes to you, and I
- 53:51Speaker 1: don't want to say there's a right and wrong way
- 53:53Speaker 1: to approach the format, but I also feel there's a
- 53:55Speaker 1: respectful way that maybe multiplies your chance of success. But
- 54:00Speaker 1: for you, if if one of those artists face don't matter,
- 54:03Speaker 1: name don't matter comes to you and says, hey, what
- 54:05Speaker 1: can you tell me that I want to do country music?
- 54:08Speaker 4: What's the most important thing you can tell me?
- 54:10Speaker 23: Well, you know, I think post Malone has done a
- 54:12Speaker 23: fantastic guy of doing what you're just talking about, being respectful,
- 54:15Speaker 23: admiring country music, learning about the history of country. He
- 54:18Speaker 23: sounds like he grew up on this stuff, you know,
- 54:19Speaker 23: so he didn't have to try. But yeah, he's been
- 54:23Speaker 23: so cool about it all and made a dang good
- 54:25Speaker 23: country record. So I'd say follow what followed the blueprint
- 54:30Speaker 23: that post he laid out.
- 54:32Speaker 4: So let me ask you this. This is going to
- 54:33Speaker 4: be the last question. H You mentioned post malone.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Success, and it really does feel like everybody in country
- 54:39Speaker 1: respects how he's done this. He did a ton of
- 54:43Speaker 1: collabse on his first album. The second album is Scotty McCreary,
- 54:47Speaker 1: maybe like.
- 54:47Speaker 23: Hey, come on, my phone's always on, So I'm all
- 54:51Speaker 23: about it. Brother, Scotty McCreary, post Malone, you're opening to that.
- 54:54Speaker 23: I'm definitely open, especially after hearing what he did on
- 54:57Speaker 23: his first record. It's it's a dang good country record.
- 55:00Speaker 23: Love to be a part of something like that.
- 55:01Speaker 4: Let's do it, Scotty McCray, Thank you brother for yes, sir.
- 55:05Speaker 4: Sweet Let's take CMA.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Season continues swinging deep, Warrensiders hanging out.
- 55:09Speaker 4: How his life is you?
- 55:10Speaker 9: Life's man live?
- 55:11Speaker 4: Man is great? Dude, do me this favor.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yeah, the last year was awesome for Warren Ziders because.
- 55:20Speaker 24: Because let's see here, God is good, man, God is
- 55:25Speaker 24: good all the time. Life is good because I get
- 55:29Speaker 24: to do this for a living. And I was on
- 55:32Speaker 24: the tour with Jelly Roll for the last two months.
- 55:34Speaker 24: We took home first number one the country radio.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Man, there's the list can go on and on. Now.
- 55:42Speaker 1: It sucks the last year. Why because there has to
- 55:46Speaker 1: be there has to be something that was like, dang,
- 55:48Speaker 1: that wasn't the dopest moment in my life?
- 55:51Speaker 24: Man, You know, I can't really There's I have too
- 55:55Speaker 24: much to be grateful for. I don't know if there
- 55:56Speaker 24: was really anything that I can look back on other
- 55:59Speaker 24: than getting sick of a couple of times.
- 56:00Speaker 4: I'll say this much.
- 56:01Speaker 11: Getting stripped throat as a vocalist not fun. Because I'm
- 56:05Speaker 11: not canceling the show.
- 56:06Speaker 24: I got to go out there and do you're already
- 56:07Speaker 24: out there, especially the Jailerical.
- 56:09Speaker 4: Tour when I was trus support, I was like, I
- 56:11Speaker 4: gotta go barrel through this and get her done. So
- 56:14Speaker 4: there you go. That's the worst thing I can think of. Listen,
- 56:17Speaker 4: you have been busy, You've been NonStop.
- 56:19Speaker 1: You did have a partnership this past year with Wild Turkey, Yes, sir,
- 56:23Speaker 1: How was that to see support from such a big
- 56:26Speaker 1: I mean, Wild Turkey is a big deal, especially yeah
- 56:28Speaker 1: Whiskey slash Bourbon. What was that like to see them
- 56:32Speaker 1: throw support towards you so early in your career.
- 56:35Speaker 4: I think it was amazing.
- 56:35Speaker 24: I think it was kind of like that little pad
- 56:37Speaker 24: on the back of just like recognition of like okay,
- 56:39Speaker 24: like you're really doing the thing, and like real recognize
- 56:42Speaker 24: is real, and here we are. And I got one
- 56:44Speaker 24: more show with them coming up in LA. I want
- 56:48Speaker 24: to say the beginning of December, and you know, I
- 56:50Speaker 24: just feel honored to be recognized and to partner up
- 56:53Speaker 24: with such an awesome company. And you know, they're family
- 56:56Speaker 24: owned and operated and they're still like tight knit. And
- 56:59Speaker 24: I love that because my parents worked for me, so
- 57:01Speaker 24: that was a big that was a big selling point
- 57:02Speaker 24: for me personally.
- 57:03Speaker 1: And I love that you said that because I was
- 57:05Speaker 1: just gonna bring up we hung out a little bit
- 57:06Speaker 1: with Wild Turkey at CMA Fest and your dad was there, yep,
- 57:09Speaker 1: but like, man, he wasn't just hanging He's like, let
- 57:12Speaker 1: me hold this.
- 57:12Speaker 4: I'm a hold this. I got this. Yeah, we're going
- 57:14Speaker 4: this way. Follow me. How important has this been.
- 57:17Speaker 1: For you to make sure that because you could have
- 57:20Speaker 1: been like, hey, I'm I'm it's still taking care of them,
- 57:22Speaker 1: but like.
- 57:22Speaker 4: Hey, I'm doing a thing, y'all, I'll be back.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Yeah, But like how important has it been for you
- 57:25Speaker 1: to make sure that they're part of the right as well?
- 57:27Speaker 24: I think that, you know, I owe honestly man, Like,
- 57:29Speaker 24: so I don't get mushy gushy or you know, tiry eye,
- 57:32Speaker 24: but like I owe everything to my parents. You know,
- 57:34Speaker 24: my parents had me, you know, right out the gate
- 57:37Speaker 24: where they I wasn't planned, but thank God, thank God
- 57:40Speaker 24: that I'm here, you know, beautiful accidents. But you know,
- 57:46Speaker 24: my parents, you know, they got they got married, and
- 57:49Speaker 24: you know, I came along, and you know, they didn't
- 57:51Speaker 24: have that phase of like, hey we're married and we're
- 57:54Speaker 24: gonna you know, enjoy each other's company without kids. So
- 57:57Speaker 24: you know, my sister and I we were you know,
- 58:00Speaker 24: their world. They didn't travel a lot, they didn't go explore,
- 58:03Speaker 24: they were never gone. They always wanted to be around
- 58:05Speaker 24: my sister and I and be at our sporting events
- 58:07Speaker 24: and always supported us and loved us through it all.
- 58:10Speaker 24: And you know, to be able to now be in
- 58:13Speaker 24: the position I'm in, I love them.
- 58:15Speaker 4: I trust them.
- 58:16Speaker 24: They're the ones that I want in my corner to
- 58:18Speaker 24: protect me and just have my best interest at heart.
- 58:21Speaker 24: So to have them now down here in Nashville, to
- 58:23Speaker 24: have them both work for me full time, it's it's awesome.
- 58:26Speaker 4: That's awesome. Plus taking care of your parents has to
- 58:28Speaker 4: be a tax, right off, right, we don't have to
- 58:30Speaker 4: talk about that.
- 58:31Speaker 24: Well, my mom's my business manager, so she knows all
- 58:33Speaker 24: about the tax, right off.
- 58:34Speaker 4: Man.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, listen, listen, family business work for Elvis, why not, Warren, Zeiders,
- 58:38Speaker 1: Amen Man, enjoy all things CMA, brother, I appreciate you.
