- 0:38Tom Jackobs: And yes, we're diving deep into the depths of owning a heart led business, tackling tangles and triumphs with a twinkle in our eye.
- 0:45Tom Jackobs: So sit back, folks, as we dish and discuss.
- 0:48Tom Jackobs: Kathleen, welcome to the show.
- 0:49Kathleen Reily: Thank you so much for having me, what a marvelous introduction.
- 0:53Tom Jackobs: Awesome well, I'm really excited.
- 0:55Kathleen Reily: Oh my goodness.
- 0:56Tom Jackobs: Dive into your expertise because I think I might be one of your demographics as I was looking through your bio but before we go into that, tell us what's your definition, of a heart led business?
- 1:07Kathleen Reily: Okay, beautiful, well, without going super deep, my definition is so you have different levels of awareness, right?
- 1:17Kathleen Reily: That are correlated to different levels of energy some people start companies purely to meet survival based needs, right?
- 1:26Kathleen Reily: So that's a very kind of low level of awareness and other people found companies, found businesses from the space of the heart which is much higher if you look at the energy centers of the body, it's much higher, right?
- 1:41Kathleen Reily: The heart is above the stomach, which is above you know, even all the way down to that lower survival center.
- 1:47Kathleen Reily: So my definition of a heart founded company is creating a company from the inspiration of your soul's purpose on the planet, right?
- 2:01Kathleen Reily: Your soul's purpose, which is always to make the place a better you know, leave the place better than you found it, right?
- 2:08Kathleen Reily: Before you depart so that's my definition and yeah, so when that idea, that hair raising vision and idea of the company springs forth from the heart, you know, activating every cell in your body, it's, that's when you know you found it.
- 2:28Kathleen Reily: And that's when you know it's a heart-centered company because it benefits human beings lives and the wealth is a gift from the divine for benefiting the whole, right?
- 2:41Kathleen Reily: So that's my definition.
- 2:42Tom Jackobs: That's cool I mean, and one thing that I pulled out of there, just that really kind of resonated with me was inspiration from your soul's purpose.
- 2:51Tom Jackobs: Could you dive into that a little bit more because that was really interesting for me.
- 2:55Kathleen Reily: Purpose, okay, so, you know, I'm operating on the premise that we're not material beings we're spiritual beings, right?
- 3:02Kathleen Reily: So the purpose being gosh yeah, I could go so deep into that, two tiers so that I don't go all over the place, first tier the purpose, the soul purpose, the greater purpose which you can discover in deep meditation.
- 3:16Kathleen Reily: There are ways for discovering that but the soul purpose is, it's a divine design it's a design that only you can bring to fruition, right?
- 3:25Kathleen Reily: You came here this is my belief, right?
- 3:27Kathleen Reily: You came here to create a footprint inhumanity.
- 3:31Kathleen Reily: So that's the purpose that, that I feel like I'm following now it's of utmost importance, that you create a company around your heart purpose it doesn't, soul purpose is wonderful that's even greater, but you know, having it really connected to the heart because you will absolutely want to give up many times you will want to give up.
- 3:53Kathleen Reily: But if this is inspired from the heart, you won't give up, you'll never give up ever.
- 3:59Tom Jackobs: Yeah, I mean, that's, you know, thinking about some of those part time jobs that we've all had, you know, as youngsters, they were definitely not sole purpose.
- 4:08Tom Jackobs: I worked at McDonald's, that was my first job and it was so easy to quit because there was no it was just go in, clock in, grab your measly paycheck and clock out.
- 4:17Tom Jackobs: So I can totally see like that difference from when you're following something that just really embodies you and lights you up like you said, you get those goosebumps you can feel that you're alive and it feels great.
- 4:30Kathleen Reily: And yet, all those jobs I had, right?
- 4:33Kathleen Reily: Cleaning the bathroom at the coffee shop, mopping the floor at the coffee shop, making the lattes, I was always a barista, you know, doing this and that, and yet all of that work prepared me in many ways, because there's a lesson to everything.
- 4:47Kathleen Reily: It prepared me in many ways to get along in the physical world, right?
- 4:52Kathleen Reily: You know, and that's a huge part of running a company, but anyway, go ahead.
- 4:56Tom Jackobs: Well, I was going to kind of ask, why is it then that there's a huge portion of the population that isn't doing their sole purpose, isn't kind of having that heart led, whether you're an employee or as a entrepreneur, they just, they aren't lit up by it.
- 5:11Tom Jackobs: So what do you think is the difference between the people that are following their purpose, making a business out of it and those that don't?
- 5:18Kathleen Reily: I know, I'm gonna, let me pause for one second so I can give you a heart centered response.
- 5:23Kathleen Reily: Well, I just, maybe it's rare for a reason, I don't know but I can only speak to You know, how I perceive this and the societal influences and the cultural influences you know, you're molded and maybe it's supposed to be this way because it's naughty.
- 5:43Kathleen Reily: It is not easy to take this path of, you know, chasing that, that purpose.
- 5:48Kathleen Reily: It's not easy at all it takes an immense amount of courage and more faith than anyone could possibly ever believe, measure, right?
- 5:57Kathleen Reily: So it takes a lot and you know, we sort of come here to this planet.
- 6:02Kathleen Reily: We're molded to stay confined we're molded to follow that path, right?
- 6:08Kathleen Reily: You know, what is it, get a job when you're 16 drive, go to college, finish college, I don't know, become an engineer or, you know, whatever people do.
- 6:17Kathleen Reily: I went into finance and economics I was going to be a financial analyst and, you know, and, but there's, and I believe this is a spiritual test.
- 6:26Kathleen Reily: There's kind of this mediocrity, it's a very potent lullaby, this mediocrity that sets in and a lot of great, you know, masters and spiritual teachers have said, I, yeah, that's the great test of the ego to put you in this sort of lull of mediocrity where nothing's too great, but nothing's too bad.
- 6:48Kathleen Reily: And just stay in that it's the comfort zone.
- 6:50Kathleen Reily: Stay in there.
- 6:51Kathleen Reily: There's some suffering, but you get some, you know, positive, doses of dopamine here and there and you just kind of stay there and so the lull of the paycheck and the reliability, it's extremely enticing so you stay in this space of mediocrity and you know, it's mediocrity because you're kind of unhappy, but you also have some moments of happiness, right?
- 7:15Kathleen Reily: so you stay in that zone and It's just a lot easier and I don't fault anyone because I was there too it's a lot easier but when you wake, when you have that moment of like, wow, this is what it feels like to be so alive and pursuing my purpose and you step out and you start to express that courage and you have faith, then you do get to a point where there's no turning back.
- 7:42Kathleen Reily: So I hope that answers your question.
- 7:44Tom Jackobs: Yeah, well, I mean, it's more of a, an opinion of anything else, right?
- 7:48Tom Jackobs: I just on where you feel about that because you do work with a lot of people on purpose.
- 7:52Tom Jackobs: So why don't we talk a little bit about your business, what you do and what inspired you to start?
- 7:57Kathleen Reily: I spent all, I was in and out of hospitals, operating rooms throughout my whole childhood.
- 8:04Kathleen Reily: And that created a lot of trauma in the nervous system.
- 8:07Kathleen Reily: That came out when I was in my early 20s.
- 8:10Kathleen Reily: I had a lot of you know, chronic anxiety, panic disorder, etc.
- 8:14Kathleen Reily: So then I came upon neuroplasticity as a concept, right?
- 8:19Kathleen Reily: Positive neuroplasticity to heal the nervous system.
- 8:22Kathleen Reily: I mean, it was powerful, it was life changing.
- 8:25Kathleen Reily: I was doing a lot of meditation healing through, you know, higher energy.
- 8:30Kathleen Reily: Then I could no longer do you know be in the finance path.
- 8:34Kathleen Reily: It was just, I mean, gosh, when that love hits you, you know, you can't that inspiration, right?
- 8:42Kathleen Reily: That divine love and that inspiration, you can't keep going on in that old way.
- 8:47Kathleen Reily: So I started a company and I began studying the science of neuroplasticity the science around happiness, the biology of happiness the biology of God, right?
- 8:59Kathleen Reily: The biology of the divine and created a method that I teach now.
- 9:04Kathleen Reily: Of this is probably eight years ago.
- 9:08Kathleen Reily: And created a method I call pre sensing and it rewires chronic stress in the nervous system and then here's the focal point.
- 9:16Kathleen Reily: I didn't know, I knew I wasn't quite, I wasn't quite doing that purpose, right?
- 9:22Kathleen Reily: I was just kind of working with anybody.
- 9:24Kathleen Reily: So, I started doing Artist's Way morning pages.
- 9:27Kathleen Reily: Which is very powerful, and after a couple of weeks, one morning I was writing, you know, the prompt is, you know, what am I supposed to do?
- 9:35Kathleen Reily: And then it hit me, you know, people talk about those downloads.
- 9:40Kathleen Reily: It just hit me and every, molecule of my being, everything just came alive.
- 9:46Kathleen Reily: And The voice was very clear the realization the inspiration was very clear was you know, you are here to contribute to the healing of the hearts of men, right?
- 9:57Kathleen Reily: You are here to heal the hearts of men through your work.
- 10:01Kathleen Reily: And more specifically, expanding out to to work with men in government and policy, making those greater decisions that they be connected to their heart.
- 10:10Kathleen Reily: And so that's where I've been since.
- 10:13Tom Jackobs: Wow, that, all jokes aside, but that sounds like an upward battle.
- 10:17Tom Jackobs: Working with what governmental employees getting to their heart, but we digress a little bit.
- 10:23Tom Jackobs: Could you define neuroplasticity for the listeners and for me?
- 10:27Kathleen Reily: Yeah, it is simply through your intention and through your emotion, your ability to create new neural pathways in the brain.
- 10:39Kathleen Reily: First, new neural pathways in the brain to support a emotional and thinking experience.
- 10:46Kathleen Reily: So imagining, you know, the pathway in the woods or ski trail, you know, what have you let's suppose we'll call that in pathway of peace.
- 10:55Kathleen Reily: If you're someone who's not familiar with the pathway of peace, you're a lot more familiar with, you know, pathway of you know, I don't know, rumination, you know, stress in general.
- 11:05Kathleen Reily: You would change your thoughts and emotions to over and over.
- 11:10Kathleen Reily: It takes about eight weeks every day to carve out that new pathway of peace.
- 11:15Kathleen Reily: And after about that six to eight week period, it becomes ingrained in the subconscious and the subconscious is the body, right?
- 11:23Kathleen Reily: The same way you learn to drive.
- 11:24Kathleen Reily: Now you don't even think about it, you just do it.
- 11:26Kathleen Reily: It's the same for peace.
- 11:28Kathleen Reily: Yeah.
- 11:28Tom Jackobs: So it's that conscious competence, right?
- 11:31Tom Jackobs: Or unconscious competence, right?
- 11:32Tom Jackobs: You get to that higher level where when you're first learning to drive, it's like, okay, left foot does this, right foot does this, hand does this, right?
- 11:39Kathleen Reily: God forbid you're doing a stick shift!
- 11:41Tom Jackobs: Exactly.
- 11:42Tom Jackobs: Well, that was what I was trying to demonstrate.
- 11:44Kathleen Reily: I could tell! I was like, oh god, the old days.
- 11:47Tom Jackobs: Oh, I know.
- 11:48Tom Jackobs: My, my brother actually taught me how to drive before my dad did.
- 11:52Tom Jackobs: And actually got in trouble for doing that, but he lives in California.
- 11:56Tom Jackobs: And they had an earthquake and he called me up.
- 11:59Tom Jackobs: He was like, Tom, I, we had this earthquake, but I was dreaming that I was teaching you how to drive while the earthquake was happening because it was moving around because I couldn't get the clutch and all that, but it was kind of a funny.
- 12:10Kathleen Reily: Clearly the memory in his body.
- 12:12Tom Jackobs: That's right.
- 12:12Kathleen Reily: Oh, that's.
- 12:13Tom Jackobs: You didn't create a new pathway to erase that one.
- 12:14Tom Jackobs: Well, cool.
- 12:15Tom Jackobs: So, so the mind can really kind of heal itself, but it takes our consciousness to be able to do that.
- 12:21Tom Jackobs: Is that what you're saying?
- 12:23Kathleen Reily: Absolutely.
- 12:24Kathleen Reily: Yeah, your frontal lobe, your intention.
- 12:26Tom Jackobs: Awesome.
- 12:27Tom Jackobs: And so eight years ago is when you started the business?
- 12:30Tom Jackobs: And all rainbows and butterflies since you started, or has there been some ups and downs with having a heart led business.
- 12:37Kathleen Reily: Oh, that's funny.
- 12:38Kathleen Reily: Yeah.
- 12:39Kathleen Reily: Many ups and downs.
- 12:40Kathleen Reily: So it's kind of interesting.
- 12:41Kathleen Reily: Okay.
- 12:42Kathleen Reily: So I'll go into it.
- 12:43Kathleen Reily: My brain is looking at a timeline right now.
- 12:46Kathleen Reily: For most of that timeline, I would say maybe five or six years, I saw they're way more downs than ups, right?
- 12:56Kathleen Reily: You probably know this.
- 12:57Tom Jackobs: The first five years.
- 12:58Kathleen Reily: Yeah You know, it's paramount that you re establish your relationship to the quote downs, Right?
- 13:05Kathleen Reily: And, so, for a long time, you know, it was difficult.
- 13:10Kathleen Reily: It was work, it was hard, It was a lot of work and a little bit of I don't know, icing, you know, and when that sweet reward would come, it was, oh God, it was amazing.
- 13:23Kathleen Reily: I would hit a revenue target, you know, higher than I anticipated, or I'd come close to that, that 10 K months.
- 13:31Kathleen Reily: Or, you know, I'd be closing tons of clients really quickly in a short period of time.
- 13:36Kathleen Reily: And it would be that feast period.
- 13:38Kathleen Reily: And that would be just enough to like get me through the famine, right?
- 13:44Kathleen Reily: The long periods.
- 13:46Kathleen Reily: And, but I have had this incredible mentor.
- 13:51Kathleen Reily: And if, you know, if your listeners can find an amazing mentor, a business coach, someone who really, authentically jives for you, this is extremely helpful.
- 14:03Kathleen Reily: I've worked with this gentleman for since the beginning of the company.
- 14:07Kathleen Reily: Actually, no, we met a few years in, yeah, we met a few years in, and he just taught me all the time.
- 14:15Kathleen Reily: You've got to rewire, change your relationship to, quote, failure.
- 14:22Kathleen Reily: In fact his name, he calls himself the fail coach.
- 14:25Kathleen Reily: And it took me a long time, but now everything is fun.
- 14:31Kathleen Reily: I don't do anything that doesn't come from the energy of fun.
- 14:35Kathleen Reily: Now, I had to, rewire my brain and my nervous system.
- 14:39Kathleen Reily: I had to change the energy I was working from.
- 14:43Kathleen Reily: None of this is work.
- 14:45Kathleen Reily: Look, you and I are hanging out here, we're having a great conversation.
- 14:48Kathleen Reily: You know, I'm having a beautiful day.
- 14:50Kathleen Reily: This is my quote, work, right?
- 14:52Kathleen Reily: And so, Everything comes from the energy of fun, and that is very important.
- 14:59Kathleen Reily: And so, if you have to slow the pace down a bit, and balance your life more, so that you're not in overdrive, which I spent many years in overdrive, you know, and, so that's what I would say.
- 15:11Kathleen Reily: So now, you know, oh yeah, there are great successes.
- 15:13Kathleen Reily: There are always challenges and it's wonderful because on the other side of every challenge is a new version of yourself.
- 15:20Kathleen Reily: It's a greater version of yourself.
- 15:22Kathleen Reily: You overcome the challenge.
- 15:23Kathleen Reily: So trying to think if there's anything else.
- 15:25Tom Jackobs: Yeah the rewiring or reframing of especially failures.
- 15:30Tom Jackobs: I tell my employees all the time is like, it's okay to make a mistake.
- 15:35Tom Jackobs: As long as we learn from it and we have to look at as, you know, the more failures we have, the more learnings we have, as long as we don't keep repeating the same failure over and over again then we're going to be really doing well because it also is a testament to people trying things and not being afraid to fail.
- 15:51Tom Jackobs: Cause I think that, that keeps people from doing a lot of things is that fear of failing that wiring that, Oh, if I fail, it's going to be bad.
- 15:59Tom Jackobs: Versus like now the way I think about it is like, well, let's try it.
- 16:02Tom Jackobs: If it fails.
- 16:02Tom Jackobs: Like.
- 16:03Tom Jackobs: No, it's not like we're going to be eaten by a tiger or anything anymore.
- 16:07Tom Jackobs: I mean, it's business.
- 16:08Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:08Tom Jackobs: You might lose some money, but you can still make it back.
- 16:11Kathleen Reily: Yeah.
- 16:11Kathleen Reily: Let's have fun.
- 16:12Kathleen Reily: Let's see what happens, you know, and yeah, absolutely.
- 16:15Tom Jackobs: I love that philosophy.
- 16:16Tom Jackobs: That's really great.
- 16:17Tom Jackobs: Don't do anything that doesn't come from fun.
- 16:18Tom Jackobs: That is absolutely a great mantra to have for people.
- 16:22Kathleen Reily: And it's like, I have had conversations with incredibly successful people, you know, millionaires even higher, and they say, oh no, my philosophy is fun.
- 16:34Kathleen Reily: I'm not doing it if I'm not having fun.
- 16:36Kathleen Reily: And yeah.
- 16:38Kathleen Reily: So, you know, I know the mind is going to come up with a million reasons as to why you can't have fun.
- 16:43Kathleen Reily: It's the, great at that.
- 16:44Kathleen Reily: But you've got to interrupt it and rewire those pathways.
- 16:48Kathleen Reily: You know, so.
- 16:49Tom Jackobs: So coming out of finance, it would seem that, like you'd be really great with the numbers and very like, what was it?
- 16:56Tom Jackobs: Right brain, left brain, or just very process as heart centered.
- 16:59Tom Jackobs: So, when it came to like the finances of your heart led business, what did you have to do to kind of be okay with making money and still living your purpose?
- 17:10Kathleen Reily: That's a great question.
- 17:11Kathleen Reily: Side note, a really prolific author in this area of making lots of money and having positive impact is Frederick Dodson.
- 17:21Kathleen Reily: He's been amazing for me.
- 17:22Kathleen Reily: I've done some work with him around this.
- 17:24Kathleen Reily: Again, changing the belief systems because there's that Belief, right?
- 17:29Kathleen Reily: That if you're heart led, you should be you should be poor or whatever?
- 17:33Kathleen Reily: Is that, yeah.
- 17:34Kathleen Reily: So, the process of healing that belief system is Okay, so that's a greater, explanation.
- 17:42Kathleen Reily: I look at it this way, right?
- 17:44Kathleen Reily: We've all tested out selling products for a really cheap price, giving them away for free.
- 17:50Kathleen Reily: So what kind of people did we attract when we did that, right?
- 17:53Kathleen Reily: I think we've all arrived at this realization at one point or another, right?
- 17:58Kathleen Reily: Either, right?
- 17:59Kathleen Reily: You know, so when I did that I attracted people either who didn't do the work or people who were ungrateful.
- 18:07Kathleen Reily: And so then of course, then you look at yourself, okay, what happens to me when I invest in, you know, and I've done my homework.
- 18:15Kathleen Reily: I know this works.
- 18:16Kathleen Reily: So what happens to me when I invest in a really powerful self development product, right?
- 18:22Kathleen Reily: Which is essentially what I sell is self development product inner growth and healing.
- 18:27Kathleen Reily: And well, if I pay 50 bucks for it.
- 18:31Kathleen Reily: Eh, it's gonna sit there on the shelf.
- 18:32Kathleen Reily: I might check it out in like six months.
- 18:35Kathleen Reily: You know, eh, just kind of scroll through, you know.
- 18:38Kathleen Reily: If I pay, I don't know, 300 bucks, I'll look at it this weekend.
- 18:41Kathleen Reily: I'll definitely check it out.
- 18:42Kathleen Reily: I may not do the assignments.
- 18:44Kathleen Reily: Alright, but if I pay 800 bucks, you know, I'm definitely doing it.
- 18:48Kathleen Reily: So you are actually doing clients a disservice by charging them too little, you know, and you don't want to be ridiculous charging insane amounts you know, you want to make sure that your clients can afford it.
- 19:02Kathleen Reily: Here's my rule I want to make sure that my clients can afford it, but it feels like an investment.
- 19:08Kathleen Reily: It makes them feel a little uncomfortable.
- 19:09Kathleen Reily: Like stretches them a bit.
- 19:11Kathleen Reily: So that's the sweet spot.
- 19:13Kathleen Reily: And you can test it out, you know, you can test, you can charge X amount, you know, if that flies off the shelf too quickly, raise it, you know, until you find that, that nice spot that equilibrium of supply and demand.
- 19:26Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 19:27Tom Jackobs: And of course the value of what you're providing as well needs to be greater than the cost that you're charging.
- 19:33Tom Jackobs: And that value can be very subjective as well.
- 19:36Tom Jackobs: Really appreciate that definition.
- 19:38Tom Jackobs: That's good.
- 19:38Kathleen Reily: Yeah.
- 19:38Kathleen Reily: But you do you really do want to be in the world of e commerce.
- 19:42Kathleen Reily: You really do want to be that person who is providing an immense amount of value and providing that 180 degree solution for your client, because your business will fail.
- 19:55Kathleen Reily: It's just you've got to.
- 19:57Kathleen Reily: There are principles of integrity.
- 20:00Kathleen Reily: There are principles that you must follow in order to have a flourishing company.
- 20:05Kathleen Reily: And I think that's basically just the golden rule.
- 20:08Kathleen Reily: I would think that's as a core principle.
- 20:10Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 20:10Tom Jackobs: And I think that's the key core of any heart led business almost to a fault sometimes is that you want to give, make sure it's super valuable to people and then make sure you're charging appropriately so that one, they actually do the work and achieve the goal that you want them to achieve.
- 20:29Tom Jackobs: But also you're benefiting financially from it and not, you know, living under the bridge down by the river.
- 20:35Kathleen Reily: Or like Fred says, so Fred Dotson, this guy I mentioned he says, why is the most expensive thing, the atomic bomb on this earth why is that the most expensive thing?
- 20:46Kathleen Reily: Right?
- 20:46Kathleen Reily: Shouldn't the most expensive thing be the products and services of someone raising the vibrational consciousness of planet earth?
- 20:55Kathleen Reily: You know, people creating positive change should be well rewarded and they are.
- 21:01Kathleen Reily: If you can, heal those blocks.
- 21:03Tom Jackobs: Absolutely.
- 21:03Tom Jackobs: So what's one piece of advice that you could give to somebody that might be struggling in their heart led business struggling financially in their heart led business that will get them to kind of elevate themselves?
- 21:15Kathleen Reily: Dipping into my heart, that great field of intelligence.
- 21:18Kathleen Reily: You, I would say Develop deep faith in that, greater power, that greater intelligence, that greater love, that divine presence that's within you and all around you.
- 21:31Kathleen Reily: Because when in each moment that I wanted to give up I had to reach very deep and go into a meditative state.
- 21:40Kathleen Reily: And it's that, that that silent present moment where you find that greater intelligence, that greater, energy to keep going.
- 21:47Tom Jackobs: Cool.
- 21:48Tom Jackobs: Well, that's a really different take than usually most people say, you know, it's like drive through the pain or just buckle down and do it versus.
- 21:56Tom Jackobs: And I like this much better is just slow it down and find that energy that comes from just being more thoughtful about what's going on.
- 22:05Tom Jackobs: I like that.
- 22:05Tom Jackobs: It's cool.
- 22:06Kathleen Reily: Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:07Tom Jackobs: So Kathleen, how can people learn more about the work that you're doing and potentially work with you?
- 22:12Kathleen Reily: Yeah.
- 22:12Kathleen Reily: So we did just recently launch an app with some free courses there.
- 22:17Kathleen Reily: And I but really go to the YouTube channel.
