- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's Mark Simone. Welcome to the Bonus segment. Just
- 0:03Speaker 1: for you podcast listeners, we give you an extra show
- 0:06Speaker 1: every week. So a lot of stuff happened this week.
- 0:08Speaker 1: You know, CBS has a new boss, CBS News, Barry Weiss,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and everybody thought there'd be a lot of changes at
- 0:16Speaker 1: sixty Minutes house cleaning. Well, it was our bloodbath this week,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and a good one. Get rid of these fake news people,
- 0:24Speaker 1: these slanted, biased fake news people. So they even went
- 0:28Speaker 1: all the way to the TAPA sixty Minutes the executive
- 0:30Speaker 1: producer Tanya Simon, daughter by the way of the old
- 0:34Speaker 1: sixty Minutes correspondent Bob Simon. But she's out. She's the
- 0:38Speaker 1: executive producer. Her number two is out. They've started to
- 0:41Speaker 1: get rid of a lot of the staff, some of
- 0:43Speaker 1: those correspondents. But the how's her name, Sharon Alphonsi. Anyway,
- 0:48Speaker 1: she's been there for years, and that one when she left,
- 0:51Speaker 1: put out an angry press release. Don't think this is
- 0:55Speaker 1: a normal transition. This is tampering. This is so they're
- 0:59Speaker 1: all in dignant CBS News that are all going crazy,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and they'll yell and scream that why there was no
- 1:05Speaker 1: reason to fire anybody at sixty minutes. And the ratings
- 1:07Speaker 1: were even up nine percent this year. Yeah, okay, they were,
- 1:11Speaker 1: but they've been down fifty percent since the good old days.
- 1:17Speaker 1: But there was You had to get rid of these people.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It's sixty minutes. It's supposed to be a news show,
- 1:23Speaker 1: supposed to be down the middle. It was so slanted,
- 1:27Speaker 1: so biased. You remember that famous Leslie Stall Trump interview
- 1:31Speaker 1: where she says there's no evidence of that there was
- 1:34Speaker 1: surveillance at Trump time. Of course there was, it was proven,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I mean, just misleading the audience. And then there was
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Trump lawsuit against sixteen minutes for some fake story.
- 1:43Speaker 1: There's too much fake news. They got to clean it up.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So Barry Weiss, the new boss, got rid of these people.
- 1:48Speaker 1: She put a new guy in charge of sixty Minutes
- 1:52Speaker 1: that she worked with at the New York Times. He's
- 1:54Speaker 1: got a lot of experience in writing journalism, documentaries. He's
- 1:59Speaker 1: been a big documentary a producer of Netflix and other places.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So at CBS, all these old fake news people are
- 2:07Speaker 1: yelling and screaming. This guy has no broadcast experience. Well, okay,
- 2:11Speaker 1: but his experience is doing documentaries. What is sixty minutes
- 2:17Speaker 1: it's three documentaries. That's the show. That's the whole show.
- 2:20Speaker 1: It's three that's the pieces that they run, three of them.
- 2:24Speaker 1: They're little mini documentary. So if the guy's an expert
- 2:26Speaker 1: in documentaries, sounds to me like he's qualified. It's not
- 2:30Speaker 1: like the good old sixty minutes where it was our
- 2:32Speaker 1: old buddies, Mike Wallace and Morley Safer and Harry Reisner
- 2:36Speaker 1: and who else, Bob Simon, what's his name? Who's the guy? Oh,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm forgetting everybody's name. But then of course at the
- 2:45Speaker 1: end it was Andy Rooney who was do that little
- 2:49Speaker 1: piece at the end. There's nothing like it anymore. It's
- 2:52Speaker 1: just not the same. But you look back at the
- 2:55Speaker 1: old CBS News and most of those guys, we're probably
- 2:59Speaker 1: a little the left. Even the Charles Carlt and Eric
- 3:04Speaker 1: Severaid and all, they were probably a little left, but
- 3:06Speaker 1: they were professionals. They capped at quiet when they were
- 3:10Speaker 1: on the air. Hey, Walt Disney Disney Company, you know
- 3:14Speaker 1: they own ABC. They're now trying to claim the View
- 3:18Speaker 1: is a news program with a bunch of clucking hens.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It's a news program. They filed a petition with the
- 3:26Speaker 1: FCC to have it actually declared a news program, which
- 3:30Speaker 1: would The reason is it'll be exempt from the FCC
- 3:34Speaker 1: rules about having to give equal time when they have
- 3:37Speaker 1: a candidate on and so, in other words, if you
- 3:40Speaker 1: have Donald Trump on. In other words, if you have
- 3:43Speaker 1: somebody running against Donald for let's say, during the race
- 3:46Speaker 1: for president, had Biden on, then you would have to
- 3:48Speaker 1: have Donald Trump on. So they want to be declared
- 3:49Speaker 1: a news show like Face the Nation or Meet the Press,
- 3:53Speaker 1: so they don't have to do that. But it's a
- 3:56Speaker 1: silly thing to fight for, because, first of all, it's
- 3:57Speaker 1: absolutely preposterous to ever even try to think that that
- 4:03Speaker 1: crazy gossip show is a news program. But also, let's
- 4:08Speaker 1: say you were forced to have Donald Trump on. Let's
- 4:10Speaker 1: say we're forced to have Jim Jordan on. Let's say
- 4:13Speaker 1: we're forced to have James Comer. What's the problem. These
- 4:16Speaker 1: are great interviews. You should be you should be thrilled again.
- 4:20Speaker 1: But that's what broadcasting has become. Very very very very
- 4:23Speaker 1: one sided. Iran. We'll see what happens with the deal.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You know, there's a guy, a number of Iranian terrorists,
- 4:31Speaker 1: but there was one Mohammed bad jarrisadd Woud al Sadi's
- 4:36Speaker 1: thirty two. He's the one that pledged to kill Avanka Trump.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Serious terrorist and he's pledged to kill Avanka Trump. And
- 4:44Speaker 1: don't think President Trump and the administrations have their eye
- 4:48Speaker 1: closely on this guy. He's an Iraqi national. Remember Trump
- 4:52Speaker 1: killed Salomoni. This guy was a top Solomoni aide. But
- 4:57Speaker 1: they've arrested the guy. Now, they've captured this guy, arrested him.
- 5:00Speaker 1: The Feds have this guy in custody. When they arrested him,
- 5:04Speaker 1: on him he had a picture of a map showing
- 5:07Speaker 1: where Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump lived their house. In fact,
- 5:12Speaker 1: there was a I guess he had drawn an X
- 5:14Speaker 1: on the house. So this is pretty chilling, this stuff.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They've got the guy. He's in the Manhattan Detention Center
- 5:22Speaker 1: where hopefully he will never, ever, ever, ever get out
- 5:27Speaker 1: Tiger Woods. You remember he was in rehab. He went
- 5:30Speaker 1: to Switzerland for his rehab and then all of a
- 5:31Speaker 1: sudden he was back. Nobody could believe it. It was
- 5:34Speaker 1: only there a few weeks. I think rehab takes a
- 5:37Speaker 1: long time. It's not three weeks. But there he was
- 5:40Speaker 1: back in Florida. Spotted in Florida. Well, okay, turns out
- 5:43Speaker 1: he came back to visit his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, ex
- 5:47Speaker 1: wife of Donald Trump. You remember she announced she had
- 5:49Speaker 1: breast cancer. So apparently got out of rehab just to
- 5:53Speaker 1: come back when he got the bad news, just to
- 5:55Speaker 1: see her and give her support. So now he's left.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He's back in Switzerland, back in the rehab, all right,
- 6:01Speaker 1: So okay, that was a nice thing for him to do.
- 6:06Speaker 1: You know that Luigi mangi own protests stuff. You see
- 6:09Speaker 1: these women, these wacko nut job left wing kook women outside,
- 6:15Speaker 1: they're Luigi Mangion groupie. So there's one of them. They've
- 6:19Speaker 1: identified her. She's thirty two. You know, her father is
- 6:23Speaker 1: a big healthcare executive, works at CBS Health. I mean,
- 6:27Speaker 1: this guy shot a healthcare executive, the healthcare CEO, because
- 6:33Speaker 1: you didn't like the healthcare industry. She's a daughter of
- 6:36Speaker 1: a healthcare executive. She's out there defending him, marching on
- 6:40Speaker 1: his behalf. So people asked her about it, and she said, well,
- 6:44Speaker 1: the healthcare industry is terrible. Could we better off with that?
- 6:46Speaker 1: It's they're just nuts, they're just completely absolutely nuts. Now
- 6:53Speaker 1: are you a white person, Well, by twenty fifty, you'll
- 6:57Speaker 1: be a minority that's right the way he is toatistics. Look,
- 7:02Speaker 1: by twenty fifty, white people will be the minority in America.
- 7:06Speaker 1: This is quite a change. In nineteen eighty, white people
- 7:08Speaker 1: were eighty percent of the population, but by twenty fifty,
- 7:14Speaker 1: which would be seventy years later, the white population will
- 7:17Speaker 1: be only forty seven percent, and by twenty sixty forty
- 7:21Speaker 1: four percent. So if you're a white person, twenty fifty
- 7:24Speaker 1: is a long way off. It's like got twenty four
- 7:26Speaker 1: years from now. But you'll be able to say you're
- 7:29Speaker 1: a minority. You'll be able to get a minority loan
- 7:31Speaker 1: for your business and that sort of stuff. So it's
- 7:35Speaker 1: already happening in some states. Yeah, three states. If you're
- 7:40Speaker 1: in California, Hawaii, or New Mexico and you're white, you're
- 7:44Speaker 1: a minority, you're less than fifty percent of the population.
- 7:47Speaker 1: But happening more and more. California obviously a total mass
- 7:51Speaker 1: of total disaster. You know, this crazy Gavin Newsom, and
- 7:56Speaker 1: they do these things just for photo ops, for to
- 7:59Speaker 1: look good to you know, rile up the base. He's
- 8:01Speaker 1: been going after Chevron. You know at the gas pump
- 8:06Speaker 1: prices in California are insane. You know, they've risen here
- 8:09Speaker 1: because of Iran, so they went up to four dollars
- 8:12Speaker 1: four fifty for seventy at one point. Prices are down. Actually,
- 8:16Speaker 1: oil came down sixteen cents a barrel this week. I
- 8:20Speaker 1: think it's eighty six now a barrel. But in California
- 8:24Speaker 1: it's like seven dollars eight dollars nine dollars a barrel.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Most of that is due to Gavin Newsom and as
- 8:31Speaker 1: crazy Democrats. They had too many regulations on the oil.
- 8:34Speaker 1: They shut down the refining so they don't have enough oil.
- 8:37Speaker 1: They blocked pipelines from coming in, so it drove the
- 8:41Speaker 1: price of oil up. In California. They got more gas tax,
- 8:45Speaker 1: oil tax, fossil fuel tax, more regulations than oil, so
- 8:49Speaker 1: that's how they got their prices up to eight dous
- 8:51Speaker 1: It's all his fault, but you know, Democrats don't know that,
- 8:55Speaker 1: they won't admit that. They don't see any real news.
- 8:57Speaker 1: So he's been putting signs all over all over the
- 9:00Speaker 1: Chevron stations or near him, telling people to block Chevron stations,
- 9:06Speaker 1: don't go to Chevron, and then Chevron announcing they may
- 9:12Speaker 1: just pull out of California. They might just leave California,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and Chevron points out, when you attack the gas station,
- 9:20Speaker 1: tell people not to buy Chevron at the gas station.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Chevron points out most gas stations, almost all of them
- 9:26Speaker 1: are small businesses. They're independently owned and operated. So you're
- 9:30Speaker 1: targeting a mom and pop business, a small business when
- 9:33Speaker 1: you go after a gas station. Chevron says, it's deeply unfair.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Can't believe politicians will do that. Fighting back on Newsom,
- 9:41Speaker 1: Newsom looks like he's slipping in the polls, looks like
- 9:45Speaker 1: he will go nowhere as a presidential candidate. Now, remember
- 9:50Speaker 1: when it comes to presidential races, we're two years out,
- 9:53Speaker 1: two and a half years out. It's a long way away.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And when you go two and a half years out,
- 9:58Speaker 1: there's always some flag the pan pretty guy John Edwards
- 10:03Speaker 1: or Gary Hart. Theyre always look like they're going to
- 10:05Speaker 1: be They never ever, ever, ever get the nomination. So
- 10:09Speaker 1: remember Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins A Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,
- 10:14Speaker 1: Julie Andrews first public appearance in years. How old do
- 10:16Speaker 1: you think she is? Nope, ninety, she's ninety years old.
- 10:22Speaker 1: All of a sudden, Hey, Rosie O'Donnell actually revealed big
- 10:26Speaker 1: secret that she had a facelift, talk about rearranging the
- 10:30Speaker 1: deck chairs and the Titanic. She had the cosmetic procedure.
- 10:35Speaker 1: She said, it costs more money than she's ever paid
- 10:37Speaker 1: for a car. It's a lot. Your facelifts are a
- 10:40Speaker 1: lot of money. You're gona want the top guys, you know,
- 10:41Speaker 1: like the top guy in New York. I don't want
- 10:43Speaker 1: to mention his name, but he's like one hundred and
- 10:46Speaker 1: fifty thousand for a facelift, one hundred and seventy five.
- 10:49Speaker 1: They're expensive. Have you seen what she looks like afterwards?
- 10:53Speaker 1: I no, No, she might be entitled to a refund.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Facelift is not the problem. A Ferrari announced their first
- 11:02Speaker 1: electric car. This is obviously ridiculous. I mean, it defeats
- 11:07Speaker 1: the whole purpose of a Ferrari. You want to hear
- 11:09Speaker 1: the noise, you want to hear the power of a Ferrari.
- 11:12Speaker 1: But they everybody's got to do this now. Some of
- 11:14Speaker 1: these companies, BMW, they got hybrid's electric. They're pretty good
- 11:18Speaker 1: at it. Obviously, probably Tesla the best electric car, but
- 11:22Speaker 1: Jaguared So Ferrari, you have to get in on the act.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Most people to buy a Ferrari don't even know what
- 11:28Speaker 1: the hell it is. They're just buying it for the name.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The way it looks, they're finally making an electric car
- 11:33Speaker 1: six hundred and forty thousand dollars, six hundred and forty
- 11:38Speaker 1: thousand dollars. But it looks like it's already a fail failure.
- 11:42Speaker 1: There's not a lot of orders. It doesn't look good.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It looks, as people point out, it looks like a
- 11:46Speaker 1: thirty thousand dollars Nissan. It doesn't look great now, believe
- 11:50Speaker 1: it or not. The problem the electric car doesn't make
- 11:52Speaker 1: any noise. Ferrari put in fake engine noise, so when
- 11:57Speaker 1: you start it, it makes some fake engine noise. That's
- 12:00Speaker 1: the other problem you're thinking about. Electric car makes no sound,
- 12:03Speaker 1: which is quite annoying actually once you once you start
- 12:06Speaker 1: driving it. Hey remember the l IV, the Saudi Golf stuff,
- 12:11Speaker 1: it's pretty much over. In fact, l IV Golf is
- 12:15Speaker 1: actually about to file bankruptcy in the United States. It's over.
- 12:19Speaker 1: The Saudi's pulled out. It's the Saudi investment fund that
- 12:23Speaker 1: poured six billion dollars into it. They're done. They've decided
- 12:27Speaker 1: it didn't work. They're gonna pull out. It's all over.
- 12:29Speaker 1: It's a Saudi thing. But they're deliberately coming to America
- 12:33Speaker 1: to file bankruptcy because the bankruptcy laws are better for
- 12:37Speaker 1: them in America, so though they'll file here. Meryl Streep,
- 12:43Speaker 1: who would you picture her with? Who would you picture
- 12:45Speaker 1: Meryl Streep dating? Who would you picture Meryl Streep with
- 12:49Speaker 1: in a restaurant? Kind of sitting close, kind of hugging,
- 12:52Speaker 1: holding hands. I never would have thought this, Martin Short.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Apparently this is quite a romance. Meryl Streep and Martin
- 12:59Speaker 1: Short on a dinner date in London, scene holding hands, snuggling.
- 13:04Speaker 1: They're both seventy six years old. Wow, last person I
- 13:09Speaker 1: picture of Meryl Streep with. Hey, we're out of time,
- 13:11Speaker 1: but thanks for listening now. Normally you can hear me
- 13:13Speaker 1: live Monday through Friday ten to noon. Otherwise you can
- 13:18Speaker 1: hear the podcast, as you obviously know, and if you're
- 13:20Speaker 1: a podcast listener, you get the bonus segment every weekend.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Have a great weekend. Thanks for listening.
