SPEAKER_00: After the work was done, the people were hungry for the word.
• 0:29
SPEAKER_00: That hunger was the work of the Holy Spirit then, and it is still his work in us today.

SPEAKER_00: So Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could understand what they heard on the first day of the seventh month.

SPEAKER_00: Their request revealed reverence, expectancy, and hunger.
• 2:00
SPEAKER_00: When we are excited to hear news or a story, we say, Tell me all about it.
• 2:08
SPEAKER_00: That is the posture we see in Nehemiah 8.
• 2:11
SPEAKER_00: From early morning until midday, the people listened as the word was read.
• 2:19
SPEAKER_00: They were being saturated with God's truth, like a sponge soaking up water.
• 2:26
SPEAKER_00: Whether I read God's word for six minutes or six hours, I want that same kind of saturation.
• 2:33
SPEAKER_00: I want his word to reach every part of my heart, the joyful places and the uncomfortable, convicting places.
• 2:42
SPEAKER_00: I want to be fully attentive to him.

• 3:11
SPEAKER_00: Lord, tell me all about you.
• 3:14
SPEAKER_00: I want to know you.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_00: I am ready to hear what you have to say.
• 3:19
SPEAKER_00: In Matthew 4 4, Jesus proclaims, It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
• 3:28
SPEAKER_00: God's word is not optional nourishment, it is our daily need.
• 3:33
SPEAKER_00: Through his word, God convicts us of sin, stirs compassion for others, ignites joy, combats fear with his peace, and recenters our lives on Christ.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_00: When discouragement, distractions, boredom, or spiritual drifting dampen our attentiveness, we can ask God to rekindle our hunger for his word.
• 3:57
SPEAKER_00: He is faithful to draw us near and to saturate our hearts with the living word.
• 4:04
  SPEAKER_00: A question to consider.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_00: What difference would it make if today you approached God's Word with the same heart posture as the people of Israel, attentive, expectant, and believing He has a message for you?
• 4:19
  SPEAKER_00: Prayer.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_00: Holy Spirit, ignite in us a fresh hunger for God's Word, saturate our hearts with the living word, so that we may listen with attentiveness, receive with humility, and live with renewed devotion to Christ.
