- 0:32Bro? Look man, So it's raining today, so I couldn't get on
- 0:36my bike, so I got so I rode a piloton tonight. Man,

- 0:44tonight. It is a bit. But everything is good man. How about
- 0:49yourself? Man, I'm good man. You know I'm a little boogie today.
- 0:54I got the lemon cillo with the sprite right right, trying to keep
- 0:58it, keep it a little light. I lost thirty five pounds, so
- 1:00you know that, do can? I got a chill because I was I
- 1:03was wilding before I was doing everything. Yeah, but if you don't know,
- 1:11we got like seventy something episodes of this podcast telling you about different periods
- 1:17in hip hop from film albums to crazy award shows like a Source Award show,
- 1:23you know the one with Snoopy y'all love us, you know that one,
- 1:29you know, kros One throwing PM down off the stage only built for
- 1:34Cuban links mc hammer Yes, we gave mc hammans flowers. Yes, short.
- 1:41I mean, honestly, sometimes we go back and look like damn,
- 1:44yo, we covered a lot of ground, but this is hip hop and
- 1:48is a lot that's always happening and going on. So again this is this
- 1:53is a community discussion, honestly. So in the comments section, we definitely
- 1:57want you all to chime in and say what you think the comments. We
- 2:00respond to the comments here on this channel, you know, trying to get
- 2:04the five hundred subscribers, just hit four thirty, so we kind of get
- 2:08man. You know, at one point it was like at two hundred.
- 2:12So I'm not mad. I appreciate everybody, you know. But if you
- 2:15like what we're doing right here, it's easy, you get subscribed, You
- 2:21can like comment, but most importantly, go to your social media platforms and
- 2:25share the content, especially with this episode, because we're going to be doing
- 2:31something that everybody's been talking about and sometimes this show is not always about everything
- 2:38that happened in the past. Sometimes hip hop history happens right in front of
- 2:43our faces, and we got to do something about that. We got to
- 2:46talk about it. So we're going to get into that, but first we
- 2:51like to do a thing where we look at what happened in hip hop history
- 2:55this month May. Back in May of eighteen ninety five, Master Ace Incorporated
- 3:02released their second album, Sitting on Chrome Now tune. When you first heard
- 3:10this particular album, you know, especially after they already had one album,
- 3:15What were your thoughts on the album. Were you a fan of Master Iron
- 3:20C Incorporated and all that, or oh well, yeah, man, First
- 3:24things first, just been a Master Ace fan dating back to high school,
- 3:30Juice Crew, Siffing and all that. He was always dope. And I
- 3:36also had to take a look around with his debut album, Man was I
- 3:39loved Man? Like those are my favorite albums. Man, back in like
- 3:43high school or whatever, I always checked for Master Ace and Master A's never
- 3:46really missed. You know, he was in c it was dope. So
- 3:50for this particular one, I just kind of noticed he he went different with
- 3:53the sound, you know what I'm saying. So this this album kind of
- 3:55had more of a like a West Coast kind of like gfunk. You know,
- 4:01it was like a West Coast album almost you know what I'm saying,
- 4:04And I never forget uh. The video the I n C Rod, the
- 4:11one with like Osler brother was simple. You know what I'm saying. It
- 4:14is the rod, y'all's you know what I'm saying, like and they ride
- 4:16down through the city or water. Man. The vibe was dope Man,
- 4:20master A. He's one of those rappers Man that he actually never sounded whack
- 4:26on a mic, no matter what, no matter what kind of production,
- 4:30what kind of vibe, he always sounds good. Man. I mean I
- 4:31liked the album anyway, Man. I thought it was solid Man. But
- 4:34that joint was my go to song and my go to video back in the
- 4:38day when he used to come on you Running and those one of the videos
- 4:41I really really enjoyed, Man. But solid project, Man, And even
- 4:45up to now he fifty seven years old. I saw a couple of days
- 4:46ago he's still every project he drops this dope and this is just another dope
- 4:53one from him. Man, Like one of the most underrated discographers in the
- 4:56rap man. But I really I enjoyed this project. Man, what about
- 4:59you? I totally agree. I mean I feel the same way like the
- 5:02first project. I was kind of cool on right, you know, you
- 5:05like that's the age you see he got a little creol or whatever. Yep,
- 5:11but it kind of was like in line of what was happening on the
- 5:14music or the hip hop scene, especially East Coast back then. But I
- 5:18remember seeing the cover sitting on Chrome and I'm like, oh, you know,
- 5:24second album, And like you said, when I heard the I ain
- 5:28c Ride joint, I went, hold up, you probably have it back
- 5:33there. I don't have my stuff. I'm in the kitchen here it is,
- 5:38what's that? Yeah? I bought the single back then as soon as
- 5:44I heard the song. Radio remixes here, the fat Cat mix, yeah,
- 5:48no ends mix. Yeah, I remember it being several mixes, man,
- 5:53several versions, several versions of the song, because I think the album
- 5:57version is different than the video vers. Yeah it is, it is.
- 6:02Yeah, this is this a different beat. It's a different That was the
- 6:06thing. Man. I was just I like that song so much obviously,
- 6:10you know, I like the Isley Brothers sample of course. Man, the
- 6:15hook was catchy, and you're right, like master Ace is probably one of
- 6:17the most underappreciated hip hop legends in the game, especially for someone who's still
- 6:25active. Him and Marco Polo have done. Yeah, it's like back to
- 6:29back albums. One was called Brooklyn Brooklyn, the other one this one's called
- 6:33Richmond. I think both a dope. I just I don't know. There's
- 6:38just too many skits for me. But the music, though, is crazy.
- 6:42So if you haven't heard master Ace Incorporated, specifically sitting on Chrome,
- 6:50that that out got a nice West Coast phield, you know what I'm saying,
- 6:54And they do the justice with wrapping over the beats. But also check
- 6:59out his disography. He got a lot of music, y'all a lot.
- 7:02So there you have it. Now we're gonna get into the main thing here.
- 7:10The main reason why we came. We saw the artwork. Probably read
- 7:15the description. Maybe you're fatigued, but I'm gonna give you a good reason
- 7:19why you should listen to what we're saying versus others, or you can listen
- 7:25to them inns. But the main reason is because we're not here to only
- 7:30say who won, or only to say what we felt about the specifics of
- 7:35the battle, but to give you entire context on what happened, what happened
- 7:42before all that good stuff. You know what I'm saying, all the details.
- 7:46So if you have no idea you just heard yo, I'll be working.
- 7:49I just seen all this commotion. What's going on. Relax, We're
- 7:54gonna go through all of it for you. We're gonna talk about it.
- 7:57So tone tell the people we here to talk. You know, first,
- 8:01let me say this. In the history of hip hop, we've been here
- 8:07before. You have to see this in every era. We were talked about
- 8:16this on earlier podcasts we've been did episodes on that time when Kumo D rock
- 8:22Busy B in the Halem world. You know what I'm saying, when when
- 8:26he said put that bar bullshit on hold, when Busy B didn't even know
- 8:30it. Kumo D was just hosting the show and Busy B think he's smashing
- 8:35everybody else and he said he the great hit, the best him see in
- 8:37the room, and Mod is like, yeah, no, you're not.
- 8:41You know what I'm saying. After that, Run said, run start calling
- 8:46people sucking him c's you know what I'm saying. One of the first things
- 8:50of this and other rappers nothing new people were talking about early ages right there.
- 8:56At some point Mod who was a battle rapper, Treacher's three Legend battles,
- 9:00al L cool J part of the gamey. At some point this guy
- 9:05that lived in a homeless shelter you know him now as carras One attacks a
- 9:09guy named mc shan over some that had nothing to do with nothing. He
- 9:13was giving props to his own neighborhood with the bridge. And then Chris made
- 9:20South Bronx and Shams may kill that noise, and Chris said, the prince
- 9:24is over. He just and Chris said, if if Shan would have ignored
- 9:31me, I'd be nowhere. It wouldn't be no BDP, no human education,
- 9:35his lines, no temple of hip hop, no self destruction all that
- 9:39he said. Because he was EMC he had to answer. You see what
- 9:43I'm saying. And we're gonna talk about other situations and other battles at some
- 9:48point just for context in here. So yes, today we're talking about finally
- 9:52Kenjck Glamar has wanted this for years and kench Glamar and Drake have battled now
- 9:58said the hip hop world on fire. We see every type of talking point
- 10:05over the last few days from mister greatest to the words till it's med.
- 10:09I hate that word mid. I already typed on to it the other day.
- 10:11I can't wait and they retire that shit, retire, do a funeral
- 10:15for the word med. But every type of word to describe this. I've
- 10:18seen what people said. It went too low, bad allegations, this,
- 10:22that, and the third that we're gonna talk about some other battles where hey
- 10:26man, all's fair in love and more and all the wards to destroy your
- 10:31opponent, you know what I'm saying. But we're gonna get into some of
- 10:33that as well. But Kenjricklamar, we're gonna do timebinus at some point of
- 10:37this episode about how it started generating to the point we got now. But
- 10:43let me say it, this is vague and Drake's defense, and look,
- 10:48people have called me a Drake hater in the last few days to the point
- 10:52where I what I did because I keep receipts. I posted all the tweaks
- 10:56and even videos of me defending Drake over all the and I called him hip
- 11:01hop. It's not a secret if you put toning the dome in your Twitter
- 11:03handle and put in Drake uc I always showed Drake love. You know what
- 11:07I'm saying, because I appreciate the dude's chattle, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:11But he has stepped up to every challenge, whether you like him or
- 11:16not. He answered the bell with coming just like Ben and Ciccu said on
- 11:20that interview years ago. He said, y'all say what you want to,
- 11:22but Drake said with the finish line, we can't wait to get run into
- 11:26you. You know what I'm saying. So, Drake, Drake battle,
- 11:28push your teeth and like I've said on other podcasts before, if that story
- 11:35added on didn't come out or whatever, that dump it free style, go
- 11:39back and listen to it. Now, Drake Drake with the ship too now
- 11:43he'll he'll battle you back. He got Mills niceer back to back. You
- 11:46know what I'm saying. He's battle people, man, you know what I'm
- 11:50saying. So Big Day Caine, sit on beef. Like I've said before,
- 11:54two MC's can't be in the same room saying they the best. It's
- 11:58gonna clash. This on a few times, though vague that the two guys
- 12:01at the top of the game at that of a particular moment battle a lot
- 12:05of other battles. One might have been at the top, one might have
- 12:07been number three, number four in the rankers for that era. Right now,
- 12:13Drake is the biggest commercial star and Kendrick Lamar well Kenja mar on the
- 12:16tarts right not killing everybody, but Kendrick is like that other big star of
- 12:20the tours and stuff. They the two biggest MC's, you know what I'm
- 12:24saying, like pound for pound and they battle. That's like the Naz and
- 12:26jay Z Batley're the two biggest at the time. So this doesn't happen that
- 12:30often and it's not appreciated, man, But look, man, this is
- 12:33your initial thoughts. Man, when when you when you heard the first I
- 12:37guess when metro boom in future with the like that or whatever, was that
- 12:41your first thing inclination, like, Okay, we might end up getting something,
- 12:45we might get a battle or something, or what would you thinking when
- 12:48Kendrick said what he said, Oh, I thought it's on now. I
- 12:52mean, I've been waiting just as long as Kendrick has been waiting, honestly,
- 12:56and it's it's you know, obviously for those watching it's not because we're
- 13:01not Drake fans. No, it's because like you don't really wait, Like
- 13:05we're not waiting for Mike Tyson to fight Jake Paul. We're not. That's
- 13:09not a matchup that we want to see. A matchup we wanted to see
- 13:16which already had a little static, already had a little animosity in there,
- 13:20a little sensitivity in there. So when I heard like that, I was
- 13:24like, I'm glad Kendrick is now just saying no more indirects talking to y'all,
- 13:31you and Jacob since he wants to chime in, but I'm really talking
- 13:35to you. And I was excited, man, I was. I was
- 13:39excited to see where it would go from there because I knew Drake wasn't gonna
- 13:43back down. I knew he was gonna put it. So did you think
- 13:48that you know what Kendrick been waiting for this moment because when we think about
- 13:52the control versus, he named a lot of people, and he named Drake.
- 13:56But then when he turned around with the BT Sipher, I know who
- 13:58was gonna kind of getting into that part too. You know, he had
- 14:01that energy, he rhyming over that del marb beat shook with shook ones beat
- 14:07ones beat, and that was the Kenchrick Lamar at that time when I saw
- 14:11that, and just like I said, uh on Twitter recently, Kis Lamar
- 14:18has the battle rap spirit. He had the spirit of corrupting them. He's
- 14:20influenced by Corrupting and Jay and Niles and Eminem and all these guys, but
- 14:24he has that spirit of battle in him, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:26So he listened to his earlier mixtape Joints when he was just pretty much ka
- 14:31Dot the kids from Compton. Really he was had that aggressive I mean end
- 14:35up being with Conscious on section eighty and and the storytelling on Good kid Man
- 14:39and See It and all that. But young young k Dot was a battle
- 14:43type of energy person. So when he did the the control that turned around
- 14:50with the bets siphered, he said something about the about the sensitive rapping the
- 14:54pajamas type thing, you know what I'm saying, Like, and everybody knew
- 14:56he was talking about Drakes. That's two shots right there, back to back.
- 15:01What was your thoughts when you heard the BT cipher tough the sensitive rapper
- 15:05back in his pajama clothes. I was yo, I was I was hyped,
- 15:11and you know there was a lot of like, uh, people saying,
- 15:16you know, oh, well, it's it's about Big Sean because they
- 15:18were doing a little back and forth, but it's about nah man, like
- 15:22Big Sean got his smoke, don't worry. But this was about Drake because
- 15:26from from what I heard at the time, and it's kind of resurfaced now,
- 15:31is the fact that when he made the Control verse, you know,
- 15:35everybody kind of got where he was coming from a competition. Cool go some
- 15:39bars, but Drake was the only one who took who got sensitive about it
- 15:45and didn't like it, and you know him, he probably did some things
- 15:48behind the scenes. He kind of threw a tantrum. So yeah, at
- 15:52of the day, you know, it's it's sort of like, yo,
- 15:56man, this is this is hip hop. You know, you you and
- 16:00then you know what the Drake might have felt that way because of two collaborations
- 16:06at one point, you know, Kendrick was Don't Take Care and Drake was
- 16:08on Poetic Justice on Good kid Man City, and they had tour, had
- 16:12been on the same tour at some point together before, so it had what
- 16:18somewhat of a relationship. But this is what I say about Kendrickimore when I
- 16:21said this. Also recently Kendrick don't care. At the end of the day,
- 16:25he'll he'll, he'll, he'll, they'll do for confident, you know
- 16:27what I'm saying. And that's the reason why he said stuff about Ja Cole.
- 16:32You know what I'm saying, and Drake it didn't mind and he's not
- 16:33backing down, and he was gonna go do this apology thing like what Ja
- 16:37Cole did with me being from North Carolina. I didn't like that at all,
- 16:41because, hey, Ja Cole, you've been saying you basically the best
- 16:44rapper for the last couple of years and all your features and me being in
- 16:48North Carolina, do and have a lot of love for Ja Coble. I
- 16:49still do. I rock with Jacob the fallow Off come out were the first
- 16:52one's posting about it. I don't care about it. You know, at
- 16:55the end of the day, dope music is dope music. But I was
- 16:57pissed off about that. But never the less, Kendrick Lamar I said he
- 17:03doesn't care. Kend ofm I've been wanting to smoke with everybody. When I
- 17:07say everybody, had certain people that he feel like his generation, his level,
- 17:11his peers, because when he did the Control Verse you had all these
- 17:14random New York rappers. This is Kendrick and everybody like Kendreck don't want to
- 17:18smoke with all them, Kndchen, don't care about them. He was focused
- 17:22on on Drake basically from day one, and then j Cole and then his
- 17:26other peers. He's not focused on twenty five other uh them underground rappers from
- 17:32New York, right, So that was Pat Pools, Joel Oti is none
- 17:38of these cats. He was not focused on them. And the shout out
- 17:41to a lot of them dues. They nice, but he is this levels
- 17:44to this, you know what I'm saying. And there there was no perk
- 17:47in baling all of them, you know what I'm saying. His his his
- 17:51goal was was Drake, and I think Drake looked at their relationship probably more
- 17:55than what he looked a definitely more than what Kay not thought. That's why
- 18:00he didn't mind saying it ain't no Big three, it's Big Me. Years
- 18:03later they've been he been poking the bath for years, right, Yeah,
- 18:07that's what's so, that's what's so weird about it because even though I'm not
- 18:11surprised, because if you're a Drake fan like most of us, are.
- 18:17You know he can be sensitive. I mean it's all in his music.
- 18:19You know, he's always thrown subliminalies and not always at Kendrick, right,
- 18:26just based off of situations, whether it's with a chick, you know what
- 18:30I'm saying, whether it's with another dude, another rapper, he does.
- 18:33He's transparent in that regard. So him being sensitive about that was a little
- 18:40bit too far. But at the end of the day, pretending as if
- 18:45somebody's throwing rocks at the throne when you kind of took it there, you
- 18:48know that's true. But you know what jay Z said, most kids get
- 18:52their head cut off. So once you get to a certain level of success,
- 18:56and Jay said, there's there's this weird thing with success, right,
- 19:00you know what I'm saying. So if you get to the top of the
- 19:03mountain, any and anything, you're gonna have well, yeah, you're gonna
- 19:07have some haters. We're gonna have competition as well. So if you name
- 19:10any top them c from any eraror somebody had a problem with at what point,
- 19:15Uh, just like I post that video or run DMC and Cool one
- 19:18D and all them cats. Was was was rhyming mode, was taking it
- 19:21serious because Mode wanted to wanted to get run out of there. You know
- 19:26what I'm saying, because Run was that nigga at one point, you know
- 19:29what I'm saying, So you know, same same thing with Carris One wanted
- 19:33to get that mail and mail. You know what I'm saying, Like you
- 19:36can't be the best and expect nobody to come at you, you know what
- 19:38I'm saying. J had a lot of competition because Cats was like, I'm
- 19:42gonna go out of hell, you know what I'm saying. So Drake got
- 19:47to a certain level he will fight back. He's been targeting about a lot
- 19:52of people, but the only opposition that makes sense it's Kendrick Lamar. Because
- 19:56Drake and j Cole are friends, collaborate on multiple songs, on projects,
- 20:02they toured together, everything, so there's nothing with them and yeah, you
- 20:07think about you know the song that kind of set some of this off,
- 20:12even though it was indirect, mostly on the Drake side, first person shooter
- 20:18like yeah, yeah, first of all, you know, I'm not trying
- 20:25to add any fuel to the I don't have a dog in the fight.
- 20:29I like both of them, but it was odd to see Drake on stage
- 20:34before we heard first person shooter. You know, not just giving j Cole
- 20:40props because that's cool, It just felt like he wanted something. And if
- 20:45you go back and look at that hug on stage, you know there's a
- 20:48point where Ja Co's kind of done with the hug, you know, you
- 20:51see the arm gold kind of limp, but Drake's still hugging, you know,
- 20:55So he kind of obliged him and it just felt weird. But you
- 20:59know, as we'll get into, we found out that you know, it
- 21:02was supposed to be three and not two, all right, but yeah,
- 21:07we'll get into that. Yeah, man, I mean again, I appreciate
- 21:15the response at some point, but let's get into the past two weeks.
- 21:22You know what I'm saying, like, how did this start off? In
- 21:27your opinion? Man? What was that first song? And we'll get into
- 21:30that. It's Fars with the Battle. So the first song, ironically,
- 21:36is something that we talked about on this podcast. We'll not on this podcast,
- 21:41but on Hip Hop Now podcast, which was J Cole responding with seven
- 21:47minute drill to eat Ndrick And you know, we all kind of felt like
- 21:55we expected a little bit better and then he surprised us and apologized and said
- 22:02he was out. He also said he would take it on the chin.
- 22:06So it wasn't like he was expecting to not get flamed for being u for
- 22:11bowing out of the battle. Uh what just for the people watching this man?
- 22:15What what did you think when in that well? What did you think
- 22:19about the song? And then just the fact that he not only bound out
- 22:25the battle, but he took it off of streaming circle. I was I
- 22:26wasn't mad the song. I felt like he was. It was more like
- 22:30baiting, like maybe, okay, maybe it's gonna set up a little battle
- 22:33right here, So I wouldn't it should have mad the song, like I
- 22:36said a few minutes ago, was more mad at Look, you put your
- 22:38hand out there, man, You can't you know, don't don't don't pull
- 22:41it back. You know what I'm saying. You liked like if you have
- 22:45been to a gun class and got the kind of license concealed you you you
- 22:48you talk, you know, you don't pull your gun out that you're gonna
- 22:51shoot. Right, people understand you don't ever pull your gun out of somebody
- 22:56and just point your gun at him. If you're gonna pull your gun out,
- 22:59you need to be to discharge. You know what I'm saying, People
- 23:02wonder why a man when a police shot, they kept shooting with a police
- 23:04were when they're talk to shoot, they're not talked to talk to shoot one
- 23:07time they don't load that the clip. Bro, he was if you talk
- 23:11to any police about their training, that's what it is. So when Drake
- 23:15pulled his gun, I mean, excuse me, when Jacob pulled his gun
- 23:18out, you take two or three shots and then you want to put it
- 23:22back in the hostel. Now he got empty the clip. You know what
- 23:23I'm saying, say you gonna stay and say it just kinda ain't even a
- 23:26spirit what I really think. And again, I know we spoke about this
- 23:30on hip hop. Now it's like he liked Jake, he liked Kendrick,
- 23:37he liked Kendrick music. He knew what he said, he didn't really mean
- 23:40it. And it was the time one of the first times that MC was
- 23:41that honest, like, man, you know what I said that ship relationshipn't
- 23:45have said it. And I know people were mad at that. He at
- 23:48the end of the day, the people like that he he killed hip hop
- 23:51or something. He didn't. You know what I'm saying he was honest by
- 23:52saying, at the end of the day, I like dude, dude can
- 23:56rap, Dude. I do like his albums. I always thought this kind
- 23:59of cool and shit like that. Man, it ain't anybody I ain't got
- 24:02the energy because, like I said, I think that J Cole would have
- 24:07had to fabricate an entire song, you know what I'm saying, to really
- 24:12have a disc record and not feel what he's really writing. And I think
- 24:18he an honest cat in real life. You know what I'm saying. I
- 24:21think that he didn't want to do that and it's got to fabricate something and
- 24:23do WWE when he really don't feel that way. Now, on the contrary,
- 24:29can't you feel a way about everybody? I feel like because because in
- 24:33all his shots, whether it's the bet stiightful or the control and all that,
- 24:37he's shown that energy for ten years. Man. I mean, this
- 24:41ain't nothing to do right kid, He's ain't nothing new for him for uh,
- 24:47but for J Cole, man, man, salute to him. Man,
- 24:49he was honest with himself. Man. At the end of the day,
- 24:52long as he make Doe music, man, he's gonna be okay.
- 24:55I think you know, it's a little blimingsh on him in terms of he
- 24:57can't really be breaking the book Drake and Kendrick after they after they did some
- 25:03epic like this, But you'll always have his spot as part of this big
- 25:08three in this era, you know what I'm saying. But that definitely hurt
- 25:12him, man, But you know it is what it is. Yeah,
- 25:15I agree. And for those watching or who hadn't heard that song, one
- 25:22of the things that was that showed how much he wasn't committed to making a
- 25:29spunk about Kendrick or this record about Kendrick was him trying to flip the jay
- 25:34Z takeover thing about NAS's albums mostly being wack except for one. He said
- 25:41the same thing about Kendrick, saying, you know, the first one's class,
- 25:45last one is tragic or something like that. Yeah, most people kind
- 25:48of looked at it like, really, you know, I don't remember that
- 25:52happened and when it was out. But again, you're right because at the
- 25:57end of the day, even though we didn't like it, if you feel
- 26:02like you literally cannot write a disc record and be fully committed to going at
- 26:07it with him and using all your skill and artistry. It's going to be
- 26:11subpar. It's not even a battle at that point. So it wasn't good
- 26:15that he bowed out because, like I tweeted on April eighth, we wont
- 26:22aubree anyway. Yeah. Yeah, So the next song very is what now?
- 26:26So j cole bows out? What's next up? So next up?
- 26:33After j cole bows out? Twenty one days after like that was Drake with
- 26:41Pushups, a record that dropped and actually was pretty good to me when I'm
- 26:51not bad at all. It was not bad. It was a nice response
- 26:55to that verse man. And I think in a lot of ways for the
- 27:00who don't know, it wasn't just about Kendrick, because there was a lot
- 27:03of other people like Metro Boom in the Future and Rick Ross asap Rocky who
- 27:08he took shots at. But I wasn't mad at him though, No,
- 27:12not at all. What's else? Man? You know you could tell it
- 27:15was the start of something. He could tell it was okayme up, put
- 27:19my hand in, he a little bit, throw a little jab, and
- 27:22you know, I know the fighter is gonna come, So I'm gonna throw
- 27:23this jab now, no response is gonna come. Matter of fact, he
- 27:26was basically like he was waiting on it. He was waiting on you.
- 27:29You know what I'm saying. So Drake was he threw that get himself prepared.
- 27:33You know what I'm saying. It's like, Yo, I trained for
- 27:36this. You know what I'm saying. I was in the gym training for
- 27:38this. You know what I'm saying, I'm gonna throw this joint, put
- 27:41my hands up and get ready for your swing back. And you know what
- 27:44I'm saying. I mean I'm in tip top shape. I'm feeling good.
- 27:47And Drake feeling good about himself. You know what I'm saying. So he's
- 27:48basically like, okay, yo, turn right right. It's probably you know
- 27:53as well go through the battle. It's probably one of the most one of
- 27:59the records where he was most confident to me, like yes, you know,
- 28:03and his stature and his stance and in the bars and you know,
- 28:06it was it was a dope record. It was a dope start and just
- 28:10like you said, it wasn't just a song, right y'all. Who don't
- 28:15know? He was also on Instagram heavy. He was where you at,
- 28:21Yeah, it's Compton College sweatshirt or sweater on, you know, where you
- 28:26act, we ain't hear from you, and you know what, that's the
- 28:27dope part about that thing too. And again for some people, I hope
- 28:32a lot of people see this episode because again I had to post all this
- 28:36stuff for me saying about Drake, because just because I shared my thoughts on
- 28:41the battle as it was going on, and several videos of my thoughts on
- 28:45it, it was all of sudden not being fraid of Drake. No,
- 28:48I appreciate Drake, and I said that more than once, even with his
- 28:51anthics on I g no doubt he was basically saying, come outside. So
- 28:56I'm not mad at that because this is a new age of communication obviously with
- 29:00social media well as opposed to like nineties battles. It wasn't no social media,
- 29:04you know what I'm saying. So he did what he's supposed to do.
- 29:07He made himself known. He came outside, and he asked Kendrick to
- 29:11come on outside. What's taking so long? Right now? Let me ask
- 29:14you this, since because this is a hip hop history podcast, y'all,
- 29:18we're gonna talk about everything. In between that time when he was trying to
- 29:23get Kendrick to respond, fans debated, what's the response time. What did
- 29:30you think about some people saying, Yo, Kendrick got forty eight hours,
- 29:34he got twenty more hours. Listen, man, what they did over all
- 29:38has been historic, But doing that little period of little time when everybody saying,
- 29:42hey, he needed to drop right now. You know what I'm saying
- 29:45now, because we're from the old school, so I'm not I'm not a
- 29:49microwave person like I like my meet to be in the oven, baby,
- 29:53you know what I'm saying. So I'm sitting there saying, so one thing
- 29:56I did post I said some of y'all understand that back in the the nineties,
- 30:00someone with this hell when NWA this Ice q Ice Ice cute that he
- 30:07waited til he dropped the death certificate, you know what I'm saying. And
- 30:10you didn't even know the song's owner until the end of the album and the
- 30:12ship came on, you know what I'm saying. So that shit, like
- 30:15you almost there was months and months after the NBA it started poking at Ice
- 30:21Cube and uh, even when you think about, say, for example,
- 30:26even the NAS and jay Z jay Z said that ship that summer jam.
- 30:30Then he drove the takeof in September, either didn't come out to December.
- 30:33The fuck it was jay Z's birthday, you know what I'm saying. So
- 30:37that's what happened. It took him several months, and they had been throwing
- 30:40a little shots before that. After the takeover, Nas didn't say anything.
- 30:44Jungle has said on interviews, Nads wasn't he gonna say shit. He was
- 30:48kind of blew it off, you know. Naza laid back, You're like,
- 30:49I don't care about this ship, and Junker was like, nah,
- 30:52bro, you know what I'm saying. We we we we can't let jay
- 30:56Z do that, you know what I'm saying. So a lot of the
- 31:00battles back there wasn't the next day. Even when a lot of the big
- 31:03battles in the early two thousands that will incorporate something to this episode, something
- 31:08up, it might take a week or two or three weeks before that next
- 31:11response came out. So, but the Microwavee society now is like Drake says
- 31:15that, all right, man, Kendrick got to this weekend, A Kindred
- 31:18got forty eight hours. Dude, do y'all want somebody to put out a
- 31:22piece of shit or you want them to sit down and craft something which he
- 31:26did craft and we're gonna get into that crafted in a minute, and craft
- 31:30out some real songs and some songs it's gonna stick over generations of hip hop
- 31:36saying what we are talking about mc shan and carras one thirty years later,
- 31:41you're talking about modn and thirty years later, Siegal and Kissed twenty years ago.
- 31:47Basically our most So all of this stuff. It's a reason why we
- 31:51talk about certain songs. We talk about common and Q. This is in
- 31:55the mid nineties, The Bitch and You. This is I'm in college,
- 31:57I'm almost fifty. You know what I'm saying. That's when it came out,
- 32:01trust me. And we're gonna get into the historic significance of this.
- 32:07You want it where someone takes their time and make some things where the next
- 32:10generation can say, Hey, man, I remember do you remember that draking
- 32:15Kendrick Lamar battle, Because that's gonna happen people. We'll get into that.
- 32:19But I didn't. I didn't think nothing of it. I knew he was
- 32:22gonna respond because he's been waiting for this. I was waiting for the time
- 32:24because for some people, you don't understand that Kendrick is a rightter Okay,
- 32:30if you go back and listen to section eighty, and you go back and
- 32:34listen to Good Kid Man City, to Bimber Butterfly, all this stuff.
- 32:36He's a writer, he's a well thought out person. He's a poet.
- 32:40So they're not gonna rush their art. They're gonna think it through. It's
- 32:44gonna make sense to them, and they're gonna release it. And so I
- 32:46was just waiting and I didn't have a thought behind a time frame, right,
- 32:52Yeah, I was the same way, man. There's no way Kendrick
- 32:57been waiting this long to go minor only minor with this dude. He decides,
- 33:00he decides to be the one to be direct, and you think he's
- 33:06not gonna respond or he has to respond right away. That's new energy.
- 33:10Sometimes some cats could do that, want to do that, but Kendrick is
- 33:15a little bit different. As we'll learn. One other thing that wind up
- 33:17happening in the time that Drake was waiting for Kendrick to respond, he dropped
- 33:23another record. Yeah that's a little controversial because it's tied to a bunch of
- 33:30stuff that was happening and telling I'm gonna get your your thoughts on this but
- 33:35he dropped a song called Taylor May Freestyle, which featured AI versions of Tupac
- 33:42and Snoop basically showing how they disappointed and Kendrick, you know, he hadn't
- 33:47respond, he letting him down. Blah blah blah. Drake also rhyme's at
- 33:52the end of that. Eventually it had to be pulled down because Tupac's estate
- 33:58said, no, I don't care what you did. His voice is intellectual
- 34:04property IP. You can't use it. We will sue you. Now were
- 34:08they really going to sue him? I don't think so. I think they
- 34:10just wanted him to take it down, so they threatened him. But tone
- 34:15that time was crazy right there, right because not only that Drake made that
- 34:20move, and I want to know what you think about that move in particular,
- 34:23but we were inundated with AI everything, AI, Kendrick response, AI
- 34:31Drake, this just all this AI stuff and people didn't know whether it was
- 34:36real or not. Ye think about that element coming into play with a hip
- 34:43hop battle, because that's new. So first things first, I tweeted around
- 34:52that time, I don't want AI interfering with hip hop at all. I
- 34:57think some people remember that tweet. I did anyone who follows me and might
- 35:00be watching this episode. I don't like AI music because it takes away from
- 35:06the talent of musicians. We don't know what's real what's not, so I
- 35:12don't want it around hip hop. Okay, Now that being said, there's
- 35:16one small part of me to say, damn, that ship was kind of
- 35:20creative, you know what I'm saying, Like the Park ship Man kind of
- 35:23you know, going there and it's snoop and then Drake, nice little verse
- 35:27at the end. I'm like, you know we on one end Man,
- 35:31good song, you know what I'm saying, not bad at all. You
- 35:35sitting the battle off, you showing that you know what you said, what
- 35:37you said on the first joint on push Up now doing Tailor Man, Drake
- 35:42is Drake outside like I said just now, So in that regard, I
- 35:45wasn't mad at it. On the other end, I don't like AI with
- 35:47music, so I don't want to hear that type of shit again. But
- 35:51just for creative purposes and the fact that he's still baiting and saying come on,
- 35:57then in that regard I'll say cool, not that mad that well,
- 36:00I'm more mad at it's being pulled by Paka State when you know, God
- 36:06blessed it. Dead Pack is gone, Phoenie is gone. And from what
- 36:09I heard, I could be wrong. Somebody to commensation can fact check and
- 36:13correct me. Please. I don't think Tupac's sister owns his estate, so
- 36:19I think these other random people own Paka State, and that pisces me off
- 36:22even more because if that's true, I'm mad that his biological sister doesn't have
- 36:29his rights and in the labor of his life, you know what I'm saying.
- 36:34And you know, so that's another whole thing. Someone please, you
- 36:37know, if you able to look into that and put that in a compensation,
- 36:39please do. But I don't think that his sister owns it, so
- 36:43it pieces me off, you know what I'm saying. So I wish they
- 36:45could have left it up, you know what I'm saying. And maybe that's
- 36:47one of the things about music. Sometimes the wrong people own people catalog right,
- 36:53and that's frustrating. But overall, I don't want AI and music.
- 36:58But for the sake of the battle, it was creative. Yeah, I
- 37:02thought it was creative. I think I would have liked it better if he
- 37:07would have If Drake would have spoke or ron from the perspective of them,
- 37:12as opposed to inserting Tupac into a battle where he really ain't here to say
- 37:19whether he agreed with that or not. I think that's kind of what the
- 37:22States job is to say, Yeah, maybe not forget permission because for those
- 37:28who don't know, On Pimple Butterfly, Kendrick hughes actual audio recordings of Tupac
- 37:37to set up like a conversation with him, more like a mentor kind of
- 37:40conversation with him. Why Drake did what he did, but that he got
- 37:45the rights to do that with actual Tupac's voice as opposed to somebody creating things.
- 37:52And the other thing I didn't like about it, and this is all
- 37:54This ain't battle stuff. This is more things that affect people like Drake,
- 38:00who definitely has been a victim of it. You know, they're trying to
- 38:04get an actual law pass to prevent this, to protect art from having people
- 38:08just use their image in different ways, use their voice, and you have
- 38:14to that ain't good, right, It's not good. There's whole Drake albums
- 38:17on the internet, so I thought it was weird for him, who's been
- 38:22the tories behind the scenes protecting himself to do that with pots like, it's
- 38:29different if give you permission, Hey, it is what it is. But
- 38:35nevertheless it kind of knocked them down a peg, especially when they had to
- 38:40pull it, because now it's like, well, damn, do we even
- 38:44count that at this point? Yeah? I counted though, because we heard
- 38:47it, you know what I'm saying. So whether it disappeared or not,
- 38:51we heard it, you know what I'm saying. And like I said,
- 38:52that's two tracks. But then we come to his kidding turn now, and
- 38:59I think that Euphooria's next correct YEP was the first joint set out days after
- 39:09push ups, so less time y'all who were keeping track of when to respond.
- 39:15Yeah, and I heard that joint. Matter of fact, one of
- 39:17my no did you text it to me? Who texted me? Maybe I
- 39:23don't, I don't know, maybe well somebody text me. I remember that
- 39:28because I wasn't even online. And then I went on and I heard it
- 39:30and I was like, okay, that's now it begins. It was very
- 39:37direct, like the beat, I like the song man, like the sound
- 39:40man. I was because no, I like Drake, but I'm a Kendrick
- 39:45fan. In terms of I really rock with the layers of his music,
- 39:49and this was just a small glimpse of what I felt like was about to
- 39:52happen. When I heard You four, I said, Okay, I started
- 39:55I see the little layers. That's a little bit different. Like Drake is
- 40:01a dope rapper, he can rap his ass off, it's witty all the
- 40:06stuff. Kendrick goes somewhere different. It's different. And I ain't talking about
- 40:12who you think people think the best, but for me, Kendren will go
- 40:16somewhere and do a how much a dollar costs? And you hear the damn
- 40:21meanings in that damn song, you like, oh shit, you know what
- 40:22I'm saying. Drake, don't give me the old shit. Drake give me
- 40:25that's dope, dope, live dope song. Kendrick give me the He ain't
- 40:30just say that shit, did he? So? So when I heard You
- 40:34four, I started getting that feeling like this good. I know it's gonna
- 40:38keep going somewhere. What was your first thoughts when you heard you for you
- 40:44same thing? Man? Like I knew it was like the way it started.
- 40:49At first, I was kind of like, Okay, you know he
- 40:52he not going the straight BT cipher route right out the gate. He's kind
- 40:58of taking his time with it. And one thing I was telling people who
- 41:01aren't the biggest Kendrick fans is on the surface. On the first listen,
- 41:07Kendrick can sound like he's just saying the most simplest things in the world.
- 41:12They don't. They don't jump out at you at all. As you start
- 41:16to listen again, Yep and things are revealed and you find out more.
- 41:21Euphoria was so layered with easter eggs from the title YI and was a title
- 41:28of a show that Drake was the producer of. Yep, and it was
- 41:32just so many other layers within the song where I was like, yes,
- 41:37it's never just surface level. It's never it's never surfaced. And you know,
- 41:42just for those who feel like, well I don't want to try to
- 41:44figure it out, trust me, When you figure out one line, it
- 41:47leads you to the like, oh, brilliant writer, man, he thinks
- 41:52the threat. So yeah, I mean I felt like it was on now
- 41:58you know it was on, like he has a full song now because prior
- 42:00to that, Drake basically dropped two songs and J Cole had a song.
- 42:06Kendrick only had a burse so now he has his first full song responded to
- 42:10them, and Euphoria was dope, man. And then then he comes back
- 42:15to back, back to back, and you know what what was fun it
- 42:21was? I said, man, you know what. I was talking to
- 42:22one of my homies after Euphoria. I said, Kendrick gonna drop something else,
- 42:29But I said, I think he's gonna take a kind of a Drake
- 42:32concept is do like a Timestep song, man, real talk. And then
- 42:37I get another text from somebody, Hey, man, ken did you drop
- 42:40a song saying I already heard you for you? No, it ain't doing
- 42:43you for you though, it's like six sixteen in La. I'm like,
- 42:45what you're like, Man, Kendrick got a song called six sixteen in La.
- 42:50I said, log it on. I get on YouTube and I'm like,
- 42:53well, I get on Twitter and the link is then I'm like,
- 42:55oh shit, and I listen. I'm like, now, now's reel.
- 43:02That was real, Na's real, And Drake got the respond to this because
- 43:07now it's real. This certified this. You know what I'm saying. Euphoria
- 43:10is dope layers what it might even be a better song, but which I
- 43:14heard on six sixteen. I like, now he's attacking Drake. Now he's
- 43:19attacking, He's attacking. What stood out to me the most was euphoria was
- 43:24more of what you get from Kendrick today. Yeah, six sixteen was like,
- 43:30Okay, his heydt yeahs you know what I'm saying, Like it's an
- 43:37alchemist Pete and like you said before, layers right. The cover is the
- 43:44oj gloves with the Mayback music, but the date six sixteen, Father's Day,
- 43:58the first day of the OJH and ironically the day of Bury Nicole Simpson
- 44:05and yes absolutely man so and and some guy on YouTube under when I ended
- 44:13up listened to it again on YouTube, he lit and I coped and pasted
- 44:16with his name so people know it's here's my mind. In one of my
- 44:21tweets, he listed all what you're saying and some other stuff, and I
- 44:25was like, and I can't recall everything, but it was several other things
- 44:30that was kind of coincide with that date, and I was like, damn,
- 44:36was it really that methodical because and it was because when we get to
- 44:39the rest of these songs, I said, Man, Kendrick could die botic
- 44:43of demon. I said on Twitter, I have it here. So the
- 44:50song dropped exactly at six sixteen. Okay, yeah on West Coast time,
- 44:57right sixteenth with June it's Father's day in Canada. At least sixteenth of June
- 45:05is also Tupac's birthday. That might have been the other thing I couldn't remember,
- 45:10right, and the other ones we mentioned. Yeah, that's that's that's
- 45:17rebuttals to tailor made right and the usage to the answer. And as you
- 45:23can see, people, what Kisick was doing strategically is everything Drake did.
- 45:30He actually answered everything in detail right and even so and in his meanings right
- 45:37right for the discipher. So he actually was very meticulous with euphoria. And
- 45:45with six sixteen in LA now we're sitting there like, okay, that's that's
- 45:52two in a row. How long is it gonna take? What is Drake
- 45:57gonna do? And surprisingly, hey man, Drake said, okay, I'll
- 46:04come back to that. I'll keep fighting and what happens next, Labe.
- 46:08Then Drake drops what I believe Joe Budden hidden hinted at as nuclear and Drake
- 46:17hinted that as hitting the red button. Family matters. Not only is it
- 46:22a song, but it's a full on video He got the van from Kendrick's
- 46:28debut album Good Cat, Good Kid, Mad City. In it. They
- 46:31crushing it down at the Junkyard, got a Genie Unit spinner chain. He's
- 46:37in the restaurant in Toronto that was mentioned on Drake's I Mean Kendrick song that
- 46:44actually got them a lot of business and reviews as a result. This is
- 46:49the kill shot for Drake. He knows you see it in the video.
- 46:52He already know it, like your dad, this is this is it.
- 46:55It was like it was like it was like the meaning of the mafia,
- 46:59like after we murdered and we're gonna go eat some costa and some and some
- 47:01drinks of wine. Because you remember at one part of the video Drake sitting
- 47:05there at the table with his people laughing. And let me say this people,
- 47:10to Drake's credit, you're talking about coming back after Euphorian six sixteen in
- 47:17la to do a high end, nice video beat changing middle part of the
- 47:24song. He starts spitting that old, that old uh so far gone and
- 47:30come back season, Drake. You know what I'm saying. I was sitting
- 47:32there like my wife was walking down. She walked through her said, Drake
- 47:36came back with something pretty dope. She looked not bad. He's spitting and
- 47:39I was like, but I was like, you know what is this?
- 47:44Is this the whole empty clip out? I didn't know, but I was
- 47:45like, man, this is this is a dope song. You know what
- 47:49I'm saying. Like he but but one thing he did in there, he
- 47:52went for the kill shot and he brought up Kenchie's family. Yes, in
- 47:58the rhyan and we're gonna get to that in the mind of er because again
- 48:00Kendie will break down what you did and he's gonna answer you. But man,
- 48:05just through surface level, Drake made a dope Drakes song, you know
- 48:09what I'm saying. Video was good. He thought it out, and people,
- 48:13this is the dopte thinking about this battle. Like it or not,
- 48:16it's thought out. Both guys thought out what they were gonna do. Whether
- 48:21you liked it or not, it's irrelevant, but they thought out what they
- 48:24was gonna do and how they was gonna execute. And I'm gonna tell you
- 48:28anybody else Drake Drake might have got them. It's just ain't they ain't Kiddrick.
- 48:34You know what I'm saying, say anything with the same thing. When
- 48:36the locks was up on the stage of Deep Set and they did a song
- 48:39and they camera with the Jada kids. He was like, that's good,
- 48:44but it's not enough, you know what I'm saying, and so it was
- 48:46kind of that. But man, I remember seeing the joint and my man
- 48:51hit me up, was like, Yo, that's dope Tea. I like,
- 48:54no, I'm not gonna front because I ain't gonna be as do I
- 48:57posted. I said, Yo, that family Matter, that joint was dope.
- 49:00Drake went in. Then I said, now this next song, there's
- 49:07a video of me on Twitter. I posted three or four videos over several
- 49:12days after Famine Matter. I said, now what I feel like it's gonna
- 49:15happen. It's an Ether type song is about to happen from Kendrick Lamar.
- 49:21It's on my page still right now. What I meant when I had to
- 49:23go back and explaining to people there who used to sleep in class when they
- 49:27was kids and don't pay attention to context, I said a song that would
- 49:31Ether. Attacked jay Z like like NA said, make it soul burn slow.
- 49:37I said that Ken is gonna have a song it was gonna truly now
- 49:42answer this and attack him on some Ether type of shit after that, what
- 49:47happens vague so real quick. You know, when you're looking at the battle,
- 49:52you know they punching, right, you know they landing. And now
- 49:57Drake is starting to stand on it punches. You know what I'm saying.
- 50:00He's starting a little bit. Oh yeah, he's throw throwing straight hits.
- 50:06He's right, he's all his critics from Rick Ross to everybody. Yeah,
- 50:12Hendrick, you know he got the visuals. Yeah, but we're not even
- 50:16gonna hold y'all for those who don't know. Literally, like twenty minutes later,
- 50:22you need to let him Breathe didn't it. We didn't even get a
- 50:24chance to fully digest what Drake just put out. Kendrick drops Meet the Grams.
- 50:32And I ain't gonna lie to him. At first, I was like
- 50:36it's some AI like because I couldn't help it, because I was like,
- 50:40like, yo, can Drake just really just dropped, like literally just dropped,
- 50:47Hendrick drops Meet the Grams. And not only is it a rebuttal,
- 50:53but it's a checkmate in a lot of ways because he took he flipped his
- 50:59family matters, situation and everything he had to say and designed the record talking
- 51:04to each one of Drake's family members, including one that we did not know
- 51:09about. You know what I hear, player, I listened to it,
- 51:15right, This is true, true talk, babe. I listened to in
- 51:20my living room by myself. Then I pushed Paul's came in here and got
- 51:27a drink, and I would have stood on my porch for a minute soaked
- 51:32it all in. I said, I hear what the hell? I just
- 51:36think I heard, So I'm slipping on some I come up to the living
- 51:40room, I rewinded and play it again. And this is one of the
- 51:49most creative, most thought out, wildest disc records in hip hop history.
- 51:57I'm seriously, this ain't hyperbole. I'll be fit in that year. I'm
- 52:00not just saying this. I heard a lot of hip hops is way back.
- 52:05I had never heard someone basically write a letter to a family and say,
- 52:14why your family's fucked up? It's all Drake's fault. But I'm also
- 52:19blamed the parents too, the way you raised them. But let me give
- 52:22a doc, let me give a donna some love. Though, young King,
- 52:25you're gonna be alright, but don't be like your dad. Though,
- 52:29you know what I'm saying, The way he worried I have. I had
- 52:31my wife come downstairs, said I want you to listen to this. She
- 52:34listened to it, and after it went off, for my third time listening
- 52:37to it, she heard it that one that once. I she said this,
- 52:43I don't think I heard nothing like that before. This? This is
- 52:45real? Ain't it? This? What is this? And she liked Kings
- 52:50and Drakes. She she's cool, she like kidsen a little bit more.
- 52:52But she was just like, this is going somewhere I ain't expected to go.
- 52:55Right. I was like, look, man, I'm still bewildered,
- 52:59right, and I gotta listen this shit one more time. I listened to
- 53:01that joint four times in a row, man, and I was just like,
- 53:07I'm still I'm still baffled, man. And a lot of people hit
- 53:12me. I'm talking about probably one hundred people hit me on tour that I
- 53:15swear saying, Tony, your video age like fine Wine. It's all on
- 53:19my page right now. People everybody said, came to my page, your
- 53:22videos, uh age like fine Wine, that they'll meet the grams man after
- 53:27family matters. You don't even let that song and video. This's a dope
- 53:30song and video. I've this is unprecedent of hip hop history. Nobody has
- 53:36ever was not even a free style of In two thousand and five on Hot
- 53:40Lane and seven Happened, It's fast, Nobody ever crafted a song and released
- 53:46a song less than thirty forty five minutes after a big artist dropped a big
- 53:52song and video. Kendrew's back on his ass right and meet the parents.
- 53:59Man, when I think about hurtful the ship that he said in that song,
- 54:06I know Drake, and I know Drake, he responded, And we'll
- 54:08get to that in a minute. That type of song you sat there,
- 54:13it bothers you to the point where when Drake responded, he called Kendrick a
- 54:16piece of shit. Yeah, because when I heard Meet the Graham, That's
- 54:28when I posted, Kendrick is a diabolical demon, because who the hell does
- 54:35some shit like that? Man, I was like, he went low,
- 54:39I mean the insults, the stuff he said to it. He told his
- 54:45mom based chill listen to this. You know what I'm saying, Like he
- 54:47writing to the son, to the mom, to the dad, and to
- 54:51a child who we don't know about. Yeah, there's nothing confirmed about that,
- 54:54but in battle, like I tell people, jay Z then called Nad's
- 55:00crib and ether. You know what I'm saying. But that's what balance is.
- 55:05There's gonna be certain parts of the battle just to pisce you off.
- 55:08It ain't gotta be real, it's to pisch you off. You know what
- 55:13I'm saying. All the wall, destroy your opponent. Man, you know
- 55:16what I'm saying. So I gotta push your nerves. You know what I'm
- 55:20saying. I gotta call you these names. We gotta go as low as
- 55:22I I'm trying to bury you. This is what Balin is all about.
- 55:25You know what I'm saying. When jan rule was going through and that Irvan
- 55:29was going through the murder in situation with Prem all them, the fans and
- 55:32all that, what was Fitty sitting to you trying to do. Fifty was
- 55:36trying to bury this nigga. You know, you're trying to finish him out.
- 55:38He already they have a niggal problem, financial problems now because of the
- 55:42case and all that. You think fifty six carry did not he like?
- 55:45You know what? This is the raa war. Fittizelv talked about the rat
- 55:47of war before just in his lifetime. He see the oponing this week you
- 55:52step on it. You go ahead and destroy, you know what I'm saying.
- 55:55So to me, after I think that kid, you saw that feminine
- 56:00metal, that's good. But before I let these cats start over rating Drake's
- 56:06situation in this song and all that, I'm ana step on him again.
- 56:10Yeah. And you know what's interesting about that, Like I was watching,
- 56:15you know, I was watching player NBA playoffs and just popped on Twitter to
- 56:21talk specifically about the playoffs, and that's how I caught the Drake joint.
- 56:25So you know, I'm looking. I'm not only watching a video, I'm
- 56:29looking at the conversation and it's Drake heavy, right, you know, he
- 56:32killed them. It was ill blah blah blah. And before I could even
- 56:36digest my own thoughts, I start see creeping up. Yo, Kendrick dropped
- 56:40another one. Absolute excitement, man, was yo. You know what?
- 56:45This was so epic for hip hop because again, Drake been the artist that
- 56:49he years. When he drops that song, people started doing reaction videos immediately
- 56:52after that. Like you said, YouTube, Twitter, Ig, Drake is
- 56:57back, Drake done, got off, he did his thing and da da
- 57:00da da, And like you said, man, I'm enjoying. I enjoyed
- 57:02the song on the video. I don't know what else I was doing,
- 57:05man, but I swear one of my homies that live by the hour way
- 57:07text me like, Kendrick just dropped another song, Like, what are you
- 57:12talking about? He's like, Dog, Kendrick got a song called Meet the
- 57:15Grams out right now. I said, Dog, you're talking about the family
- 57:19mass Drake, No, no, no, Kindrick got a new song doog.
- 57:22I go back on line the gigs. I'm look at TV and I'm
- 57:25like, what is this? Shit is insane? And that's when I listened
- 57:30to it. And now that's when I heard it went outside of the I
- 57:32couldn't believe it, man, Like what is going on? Man? I
- 57:36was like the excitement that I had, And yeah, it was some low
- 57:38blows by both guys, but I'm enjoying the auto war. I'm just like,
- 57:43these guys are giving you everything, like we don't get this in hip
- 57:50hop like this, man, you know what I'm saying. So when he
- 57:52did that joint, I was like then I was kind of like for me
- 57:58personally, and this is when my back and forth a lot of people on
- 58:00to what happened over that that night and the next day, I said,
- 58:05for me, if this is the end, oh oh yeah. Kidder got
- 58:08him though, and I like Drake. You know what I'm saying. I'm
- 58:10like Euphoria six sixteen and Meet the Grams. I was like, yeah,
- 58:19that's it, and I said, I like Drake Johns. I said,
- 58:21but this is just a different level of demonic shit that the kids you got
- 58:25going on, and he got him. Darmned It's okay. I told some
- 58:28a couple of guys who attacking me. I'm like, yeah, I feel
- 58:30like it's over my nigga and it's okay. You know, yeah, it's
- 58:35okay, man, Like you know, it's it's it's battle rapping. But
- 58:38then what happens? Not too many real quick. Let me just add one
- 58:44thing. Yeah, so people know as far as the context, Yeah,
- 58:47Hendrick was already setting a lot of this up. Don't tell no lies about
- 58:52me, won't tell no truth about you? Yeah right. He said that
- 58:57in advance. He also said, ceasing desist to the like that record?
- 59:04What you didn't like that record? Back to Back? I like that,
- 59:07like that record. I'll get back to that record. Yeah, back to
- 59:12back. The same day, so again like, yeah, when you listening
- 59:17to Kendrick sometimes it just sounds like he's rapping, and he's not just rapping.
- 59:22Not just rapping. Man, right, he's like you said, he's
- 59:28a demon. Somebody says something matter of fact, shout out to the dudes
- 59:32who are doing the comedy skits. It was like, Yo, he liked
- 59:35Batman, like before you figured him out, Batman already standing behind you,
- 59:40he already ready to stab you. Pray. But yeah, what happened next
- 59:49was that that was already a glorious night. It was glorious that that Friday
- 59:55was just crazy. But Saturday night. Now me, tone, me,
- 1:00:01shout out to the homie. We on the phone were breaking down the battle.
- 1:00:05We talked about meet the Grahams and blah blah blah, cause we hadn't
- 1:00:07talked about any of this. While I'm on the phone, this the text
- 1:00:14me Kendrick drocked another one not like us. And I'm like, wait,
- 1:00:20you mean Drake, Like, no, Kendrick did me. And I had
- 1:00:24to get off the phone. We're like, yo, let's just get off.
- 1:00:27Listen and tone, I'm gonna tell you like this man, people know
- 1:00:31who know me obviously. I'm from Brooklyn, New York. I love my
- 1:00:35city in town, but I also love particularly old school with traditional West Coast
- 1:00:42hip hop, especially the sound. When I heard not like Us, I
- 1:00:45was like, that's it. This battle is over. This is a bop,
- 1:00:52like this is this battle is over. The victory lab. This is
- 1:00:54the victory lab. We are dancing on your grave at this point. Tone
- 1:01:00when you heard knock like Us, like what what? What space were you
- 1:01:04in when you even found out that he dropped it? Bro, I'm sitting
- 1:01:07there looking at TV chilling man. You know what I'm saying, My home,
- 1:01:09my homie that sent me you fought six sixteen. He texted lot of
- 1:01:15music to me and my other home all the time. We talk about music
- 1:01:17all the time. I get a text, I'm looking and he's like,
- 1:01:22yeah, dog, it's on again. I'm like what something like He's like,
- 1:01:28link coming up. Suck. A couple of seconds later, hit the
- 1:01:30link. He said, hit this dog. So I'm like, wait a
- 1:01:36minute. So yeah, I'm like, wait a minute, dog, Not
- 1:01:39like Us hit the song and I was like, this is nineteen ninety two
- 1:01:45West Coast shit. You know what I'm saying, Like it's the bop and
- 1:01:50I'm like, it's some Oakland shit. I said, I can hear Eat
- 1:01:53forty on the remix of this shit. And I was playing and I was
- 1:01:58like, just do who done created a West Coast Anthem? And I typed
- 1:02:01that on tour. After I heard the first time all this on my page
- 1:02:05off last weekend, I said, kid it. Them fucked around and created
- 1:02:09a West Coast Anthem. Right after that, I'm talking about thirty minutes after
- 1:02:15that, there were videos of people all on the West Coast gang members and
- 1:02:19everything dancing to this shit. I'm talking about within an hour of this shit
- 1:02:22hitting the streets, cats was doing their thing on the I said, not
- 1:02:28only did he make a West Coast anthem, just about to be a West
- 1:02:30Coast classic. They're gonna play in the club, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:02:35And soon. And that night this dude from LA who follows me sent
- 1:02:42me the video here like, yeah, dare in the club right now over
- 1:02:45in LA doing it right now. He was in La, you know what
- 1:02:47I'm saying. He posted sent me the video the DJ playing not like us
- 1:02:53in La. That night in the club, I said, dog, the
- 1:02:57battles over, I know, y'all, they start crying all on the page
- 1:03:01vague. I said, dog, the dude just did six sixteen Meet the
- 1:03:05grams and not like us in the fucking weekend. In the weekend, what
- 1:03:09are we talking about? What are we talking about? People? And look
- 1:03:15for those you know who listen to rap, but especially for those that write,
- 1:03:19you're talking about three different vibes rebuttals on Tandra's body in this dude like
- 1:03:29it's it's unheard of, unheard of never, never in hip hop history has
- 1:03:36an MC two top mcs. One of them dropped four different type of songs
- 1:03:43commst of the time. When people battle, it's the same vibe in each
- 1:03:45of their distance. For the most part, you knew caw of what they
- 1:03:47expect. Beat might be a little bit different, but the focus is kind
- 1:03:51of the same, right, Kendrick comes from four different type of angles,
- 1:03:57and you have to at a at a giant like in music. Drake is
- 1:04:00a giant in music. You know what I'm saying. Whether you like him
- 1:04:02or not, whether you feel like he's popping all this brother bullshit, he's
- 1:04:05an MC too, and he showed it over the weekend. Over the last
- 1:04:09week or two, he's an MC as well. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:04:11but I've never seen anyone attacked like this to the point like, you
- 1:04:16don't gonna use these type of samples, then I'm gonna use this type of
- 1:04:19flow, make this type of song right here, breaking down your family.
- 1:04:23Then I'm gonna take you out to the damn club because I know that's what
- 1:04:25you want to do. So who came out of this with the club bangle?
- 1:04:30Was the persecu didn't inspect the cerebral dude has the club bangle. You
- 1:04:33know what I'm saying. Even though Drake has the good songs, his joint
- 1:04:36ain't in. He ain't on Spotify and in the clubs right now. And
- 1:04:41look, all of these different media spaces are posting him being not like us.
- 1:04:48It is number one all these different streaming services. He's created a classic
- 1:04:54song. And like I said before on tour the other day, most legendary
- 1:04:59battles, something classic comes out of it. So for anybody on here who
- 1:05:03wanted to crowd about this battle, Kendrick did that. For the next generation,
- 1:05:09not like us. It's gonna be played a high school game to beat
- 1:05:13bands. Joints gonna be playing at college clubs, in the streets, the
- 1:05:17street niggas already cript walk into it. It's a classic now he said,
- 1:05:21West Close, West Coast classic that came out of this battle, you know
- 1:05:26what I'm saying. And it came out of a battle that also had three
- 1:05:29other songs that's nothing like this. So yes, that was the victory lap,
- 1:05:34even though Drake will talk about the minute decided. Am I really giving
- 1:05:39up? Maybe so, I don't know, but I got something else to
- 1:05:42drop, but a classic drop, yeah, and right in time for the
- 1:05:47summer, like just a song of the summer type style record. And you
- 1:05:54know, just for the context for some people, you know, when it
- 1:05:57came to the YouTube use of both their songs, their songs that would come
- 1:06:02out, you know in a lot of ways. Let's just go to the
- 1:06:06first one because I checked it in real time when I went and checked push
- 1:06:11Ups, right, and so it was at five hundred k views. This
- 1:06:15was around the time of Euphoria, and I checked Euphoria, which had dropped
- 1:06:19that day, and it was at a million now at one at some point,
- 1:06:24you know, they both really went up to like seven and some crazy
- 1:06:27numbers. But even on the charting side, Euphorias just went gold. But
- 1:06:34not like us. It's climbing. It had at one point it had four
- 1:06:40million streams in a day, which was a record. Then the next day
- 1:06:44he broke that record with seven million streams in a day. That's the that's
- 1:06:49the metric within a day, how many streams, not total, it's gonna
- 1:06:54be it's gonna be bananas once we seem at the end of the year.
- 1:06:58But right now seven million plus within hours, right, So yeah, man,
- 1:07:04it's it's crazy how that happened. Because one thing that we know that
- 1:07:12I remember, probably mostly from the jay Z and Nas thing, was when
- 1:07:16jay Z was king in New York like for real radio all the records,
- 1:07:24like he was dominating radio, was dominating the mind share. Once Ether came
- 1:07:29out and I happened to go home around that time, all you heard was
- 1:07:33that still Madic album everywhere on the radio, like he literally replaced jay Z.
- 1:07:42I feel like that was the people deciding who won. Absolutely the same
- 1:07:47thing here all you gotta do. I've been seen white people making TikTok videos
- 1:07:55and in all kinds of other countries in Toronto. Outside the Chinese restaurant where
- 1:08:02they were eating, I think it's Chinese a lot, just say Asian,
- 1:08:05uh outside of that restaurant. College students making a video with Not Like Us
- 1:08:13playing in the sixth It's everywhere. Man, i'mnna tell you crazy. My
- 1:08:17little man hitting me in here in high school. He's like, yeah,
- 1:08:23I like not like Us. You know what I'm saying, my son.
- 1:08:26So then all the day just randoming. My wife called me, she commuting,
- 1:08:30she had she had a meeting. She's like, man, I had
- 1:08:33that Not Like Us on repeat. You know what I'm saying, Like this
- 1:08:36randomness, my own family. You know what I'm saying. The two people
- 1:08:40in the house, it's just random shit. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:08:43But like I told this one dude wanted to bake me back and forth on
- 1:08:45twur the other day. I said, dog, he like, I guess
- 1:08:47you the hborough hip hop right about who won this battle? I said about
- 1:08:50me, It's about the people, the people out spoken. I said,
- 1:08:54you see what's going on right now, Go to ig, go to TikTok,
- 1:08:58go to the stream and stuff, and see who breaking all these records.
- 1:09:00Ain't got nothing to do with me. Don't get mad at me about
- 1:09:02it. Drake lost, Okay, it's okay. I didn't decide that the
- 1:09:06people decide that, just like you said, in New York, people can
- 1:09:11say what they want to, but the people decided that Niles was victorious.
- 1:09:15These are facts. You ain't gotta listen to us, the people talking.
- 1:09:18You know what I'm saying. I mean, that's what it is. So
- 1:09:21I mean that weekend was epic, you know what I'm saying. But hey,
- 1:09:26but let's go into you know, Drake had one more on the Chamber.
- 1:09:30Yeah, considering what we felt about the record, the movement that was
- 1:09:34happening at the time, Drake was like, I guy one more Amy,
- 1:09:39I got one more blow in me, you know, And he dropped a
- 1:09:42record that was a play on the series that Kendrick does called the Heart six,
- 1:09:49which is in line because the last one is five five and which is
- 1:09:56very dope, matter of fact, behead right right, you know. So
- 1:10:00that's kind of a rebuttal because he used the time stamp thing, tom stamp
- 1:10:04thing, which is right right, and it's it's rebuttaling a lot of different
- 1:10:12things that was already said. Uh, some of which we can get into
- 1:10:16after this because there's a question I want to ask you to him about judging
- 1:10:20battists. But you know, I think most of us because not like us
- 1:10:30kind of put a cap on the battle. And what Drake did because he
- 1:10:33was spitting like he was spitting like Drake Drake, not twenty one Savage Rhyn
- 1:10:39you know, come back Drake. But he sound a little defeated because in
- 1:10:47several occasions throughout his lyrics he contradicted himself. He said things that probably wasn't
- 1:10:56the best thing to say. If somebody calling you a pedophile, you don't
- 1:10:59say, you know, like the one tweet I saw, if I'm a
- 1:11:01liar, why aren't my pants on fire? Like dog? You don't even
- 1:11:06acknowledge it in that way bringing up Millie Bobby Brown when nobody brought up Millie
- 1:11:11Bobby Brown, but we know about you and Millie Bobby Brown. It just
- 1:11:17and then at the end sounded like, yo, you probably got ten more
- 1:11:21songs. You know, I don't want to do this after begging him,
- 1:11:26so the snow now you're tied. Yeah. I think that that was Dama's
- 1:11:32control. Don't get me wrong. Like the beat, he was spitting on
- 1:11:35it, but what it was spitting it If you go back and do the
- 1:11:39knowledge onuse I know and the beginning when it first dropped. The Drake fans
- 1:11:43like he won again, he's back up again. I don't know what they
- 1:11:45were talking about, because that was craziness, but I think he dropped a
- 1:11:48good record. Yes, and I said that. I said it was dope,
- 1:11:50you know what I'm saying, but not dope enough, you know what
- 1:11:53I'm saying, because to me, it was end up being damage control.
- 1:11:57I'm saying, I'm reborting all the stuff that you said about me. He
- 1:12:00talked too much at the egg sound like he was giving up, you know
- 1:12:03what I'm saying. And then it's like, I'm exhausted. Now basically you're
- 1:12:08gonna do like you're gonna keep doing all this shit. I don't want to
- 1:12:12do this shit no more than I'm tied, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:12:14So that's kind of where it came off. Even some of his own fans
- 1:12:17said that. But there are some of the fans who just anything to do.
- 1:12:21They're gonna say he won was Obviously the people have spoken. Hip hop
- 1:12:26ha spoken. Anybody watching this who might have liked what I'm saying, it
- 1:12:29don't matter because hip hop spoke. This ain't till turn of the dumb saying
- 1:12:31hip hop did and Tony. It's no different from what we witnessed with jay
- 1:12:38Z and Nas. There were people who were just hanging on, like who
- 1:12:42continue to hang on, who feel like, nah, jay Z won because
- 1:12:47of you know, NAS was all lies and all of that. But like
- 1:12:50yesh, he won because he did a joint venture with Depth Jam, but
- 1:12:55he wore because jay Z got more money or whatever the case may be.
- 1:13:00So the excuses, and I said this on twit them videos, excuse it,
- 1:13:03excuse you the excuses, But numbers don't lie. Since y'all always want
- 1:13:08to use and that's what I posted the other day with that where we're not
- 1:13:10like us went up like number one on some service streaming. It's like y'all
- 1:13:14the ones used numbers for Drake and eminem y'all do that. You know what
- 1:13:18I'm saying. We didn't ask you that. But every time I about Drake,
- 1:13:20it is about his success, it's about his numbers, it's about his
- 1:13:24streaming. Well, Kendrick beat him in his own game. He out creativity.
- 1:13:29He had more creativity with the songs, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:13:31because he's a deeper thinker, which we all know that, So he beat
- 1:13:35him. On that end, then he beat him on streaming, then he
- 1:13:38got a club banger, So how didn't even how did he not win the
- 1:13:41fucking battle? That's all I'm saying. That's that's that's what happened. That's
- 1:13:45exactly what happened. And honestly, you know, it's just it's it's typical
- 1:13:51for people when they debate and they don't want to accept defeat because they're so
- 1:13:58invested and what they believed in. So now you see what you see?
- 1:14:03Did you see did you see when I retweeted your boy maul him about the
- 1:14:08damn have a nervous breakdown because he's defending Drake hardened academics was yeah, which
- 1:14:16is crazy, right at least when when it came time to show that he
- 1:14:24was being fair and stuff like that, he didn't really wane in one way,
- 1:14:29like just completely Drake. What mal did was the most moist ship I've
- 1:14:33ever seen in my life, because it was disgusting, like, dog,
- 1:14:36are you on payroll? Are you? I mean, if you don't watch
- 1:14:41this video without him, you don't watch this video or with the sound off.
- 1:14:45You look, he was crying about the family member that passed away.
- 1:14:48He definitely was crying inside, like I mean, I was like, God,
- 1:14:53damn, dude, what what are you doing? You know what I'm
- 1:14:55saying? Like right, let me let me ask you. Distance is related.
- 1:15:00So if y'all ain't here before, at this point, we feel like
- 1:15:05even with Drake's response, which was cool, but he kind of like he
- 1:15:12downplayed it. So it just was like waving a white flag in a lot
- 1:15:15of ways, what do you think? Because this is what this is what
- 1:15:19I believe in. We all know battle rap is about judging how you say
- 1:15:27things. Not what you say, but how what you say plays a role.
- 1:15:31But it's how you say it. Pass his body like stocked in,
- 1:15:35like pass on his body, like like bars like that that you catch.
- 1:15:42They should resonate with you when you hear them, right, not necessarily accusations.
- 1:15:47What is what happened with this battle tone and you saw it, is
- 1:15:51that it became with the fans a debate over the accusations. Is Kendrick a
- 1:15:57white beater? Is break a pedophile? Right? But in the realm of
- 1:16:02a battle, sure, saying things about somebody saying somebody got a daughter or
- 1:16:09whatever, it's cool, but it's about the work you put in with the
- 1:16:13bars. What do you think about the fact that there was this much confusion
- 1:16:18with quote unquote hip hop fans to judge accusations versus skills. Well, you
- 1:16:27know what, man, We're in a sensor of society right now, social
- 1:16:31media. A lot of people have their own feelings about words because words now
- 1:16:36different. He she heard you know what I mean? Everything is different now.
- 1:16:43People are more emotional about things now they take it to heart more than
- 1:16:47just art, you know. And what I mean by that is for hip
- 1:16:51hop heads, for example, most hardcore hip hop battles. The two dudes
- 1:16:58were talking about fucking shooting each other, saying thing I say to somebody the
- 1:17:01other day, why are you crying? But you love the kids? And
- 1:17:04Sigull and all the other guys battles, But half of the rhymes about when
- 1:17:10I see it, but it's taking it's taking two shots to you and your
- 1:17:13crew. You know what I'm saying. You're talking about black on black violence
- 1:17:15basically. But y'all okay with that because the bars are up the park,
- 1:17:18right, you know what I'm saying. Whatever, or even back in the
- 1:17:21day, you had rhymes DJ Cook against MC eight, you know, you
- 1:17:25talking about gang affiliation in rhymes. You know what I'm saying or the shit
- 1:17:29that Park said. And people know I'm hard on Park because I love Tupac
- 1:17:32peoplen' understand. I want the biggest Tupac fans. George No, I got
- 1:17:34everything Tupac. You know what I'm saying. But yes, Park said foul
- 1:17:41shit that y'all loved, y'all love hit him up? Right? We talking
- 1:17:44about he fucked this man wife right, no facts in that, but you
- 1:17:47love that. You love when he said, don't want these niggas got sickle
- 1:17:50cell or something, you know what I'm saying, or or my full four
- 1:17:54Makeup'm sure all y'all kids don't grow. What the fuck we talk about y'all?
- 1:17:58So yeah, Kinikin and Drake they took low bros. Because that's always
- 1:18:01been what hip hop is. So this shit they quests loved like our hip
- 1:18:04hop is dead the way people is gossiping there where these battles are now,
- 1:18:08no quest love y'all the same niggas they did what they do And this this
- 1:18:13New York, this biggie in the video having little images of the dude in
- 1:18:16bed and all this stuff like that. I know Black thought lyrics. You
- 1:18:19know what I'm saying, y'all was dissing y'all. The same niggas also did
- 1:18:23the Unplugged with jay Z and did Takeover Live after you know what I'm saying.
- 1:18:29Now's and jay Z been battle for months, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:18:31After you heard super Ugly on the radio station and jay Z said he
- 1:18:36put cons on ours baby fucking mama's baby s you know what I'm saying.
- 1:18:41So yeah, don't get hired righteous now because you did that. So if
- 1:18:44hip hop is dead, why you still doing all this podcast making out his
- 1:18:46money off hip hop? You know what I'm saying. That's what I said
- 1:18:49online tonight. And I don't care if quests love seeing anybody else see it,
- 1:18:51and I heard I saw a lot of comments, so whatever, So
- 1:18:55now, dog, what they said is what they said. That's war,
- 1:18:59that's battle. Most of these most of these battles was about people killing each
- 1:19:02other, you know what I'm saying. So yeah, some of it low
- 1:19:05sure, that's part of game, part of the game. But let me
- 1:19:10say this real quick. A bottle line that I posted tonight when Kendrick said
- 1:19:15what he said right here, beat your ass and how the Bible of God
- 1:19:18watching. Let me say that again, people, Kenny said, beat your
- 1:19:25ass and how the Bible of God watching. That's that thing. You can
- 1:19:29interpret that however you want interpret it. But that's the layers of Kendrick Lamar.
- 1:19:32You know what I'm saying. It's like, Yo, what I'm doing.
- 1:19:34I can I can look at it as as you know what I'm saying.
- 1:19:38What I'm doing to you, I'm committing to saying. You know what
- 1:19:41I'm saying, or however you want to interpret it. Man, you know
- 1:19:44what I'm saying. But the things that Kendrick said, Drake said, slicks
- 1:19:46shit right, Kendrick went low because there's something there with Kendrick where that's truth
- 1:19:55and everything. And what I say mean by that is, do I think
- 1:19:58you thinking of a pep no brough. Do I think he think he's a
- 1:20:00weirdo into that Hollywood shit? Yeah? I don't think Kenny think that Drake
- 1:20:04has done nothing like he looking with a little, no kids, none.
- 1:20:08But I think that his his aggression towards all that is, Dude, you're
- 1:20:12still a weirdo. You typing that be a puff party or something like that.
- 1:20:15That's that's to me. That why he's saying you, that's why he
- 1:20:16said another song. Ya, I'll been in the industry all these years.
- 1:20:20It's you a weirdo like them. Basically, you know what I'm saying and
- 1:20:24that and that's basically what he was doing. Man, And uh yeah,
- 1:20:28man, I mean, but this society is, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:20:30so many different agendas. And also you know, when your when your
- 1:20:34guy is losing, I'm gonna take everything the other person do and make it
- 1:20:40offensive and make it more than what it is. But a drake so called
- 1:20:44will have the club begging right now, had a number one shit on like
- 1:20:47Spotify and all this stuff like that, It wouldn't matter what he said.
- 1:20:50It don't matter that he said that Kennedy beat his damn wife. Who ain't
- 1:20:54no facting that either, So same, ain't no facts that you did some
- 1:20:57und age, ain't no facts the kitten. We ain't never seen a picture
- 1:20:59of kid, and no police support he beat his wife up right, So
- 1:21:04as love and all right, all we have, if we if we're going
- 1:21:10to entertain the accusations in these in these rhyms, all we have from Kendrick
- 1:21:16is him defending a room or years ago in a breakfast club and some other
- 1:21:21random video with a couple of people who look like it's just really difficult to
- 1:21:28believe. I don't know where somebody dug that up from, uh saying talking
- 1:21:33about an incident with Kendrick and a woman that they did not see what they
- 1:21:39heard, right, it was about him doing whatever. Now with Drake,
- 1:21:43it's where there's smoke, there's fired. So what Kendrick is using to make
- 1:21:48accusations towards Drake is things that you can go watch right now on YouTube on
- 1:21:55stage talking to a seventeen year old girl, right saying are you too young?
- 1:22:00If you worry? Bah blah blah, and then kissing her. Right,
- 1:22:05you can say, oh, but that was no man. Alia was
- 1:22:10a long time too. But we still feel the same way about r.
- 1:22:12Kelly and his transgressions. Right, the N word, right, Yo?
- 1:22:17How he gonna tell him that he not black? He said, he don't
- 1:22:21like the way you use the N word. Well, you can find a
- 1:22:26video online of Drake using an N word in a way that no one who
- 1:22:31uses it like us has never used it like that. It ain't had that
- 1:22:36E did it? Oh you never seen the video? No, I was
- 1:22:43sarcastic, but it had the it had the R like it we don't do
- 1:22:47that. It's an early video of Drake and he's this isn't exactly the line
- 1:22:56he says, but this is how he says the word, right like,
- 1:22:59yeah, so me and my niggers, I don't know anybody especially black,
- 1:23:04even half black, Puerto Rican whatever that has had to start at that point
- 1:23:12with the word and graduate to nigga or whatever. And that's why, I
- 1:23:15mean, that's why a kid is shit on one of the songs. What
- 1:23:18I'm saying is what the coach is already saying about you. It's already out
- 1:23:24there, y'all. Don't have to believe us. We don't have to put
- 1:23:26the link in the description. It's out there. That's what leads to it,
- 1:23:30just like the daughter thing, that the things are out there, like
- 1:23:33you know, they weren't really exposing everything to a t but it's because it's
- 1:23:40out there, not because Kendrick said so. And that's kind of the difference
- 1:23:45between you know, I and I get it some people that's but that going
- 1:23:50back to the original statement and question, hip hop battles are about the skills,
- 1:23:58the context of what they saying, and all of that it could all
- 1:24:00be lies. Some of it could be lies, some of it could be
- 1:24:03true. It doesn't matter. It's all about how you say it. The
- 1:24:06music. And Kendrick just did a better job with his material than Drake did.
- 1:24:13Drake wasn't terrible, He's not whack as a result, he just lost
- 1:24:16this one and that's fine, that's okay, right. Look, man,
- 1:24:21when when Croyland and Marven having a fault on Ali and Fraser fault or whatever
- 1:24:28the case will be, somebody won, somebody lost, but they both walked
- 1:24:30away as champions, you know what I'm saying. And Drake still got his
- 1:24:32fan base. Kendrick got his fan base. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:24:36Some people like us like both with the contrary to popular belief, I like
- 1:24:41hip hop more and I like anybody individually. So if you're making some good
- 1:24:44music, I'm gonna I'm gonna rock with you. But let me say this
- 1:24:45real quick. I think you muther just gonna get to at some point,
- 1:24:48how do we look at this in historical context? Yep, you want me
- 1:24:53to go there? Yeah, So just real quick, for the people like
- 1:24:58we were talking about this particular battle but now that we think, or at
- 1:25:03least we feel, it's over, how does this battle rank against other battles
- 1:25:11within the history of hip hop? And is they're a top five battle rap
- 1:25:17song or even top ten within this battle? You owe me to kind of
- 1:25:25address. So I will say, and I know some people ain't gonna want
- 1:25:30to hear this, because we, especially people of our age, our era,
- 1:25:36nostalgia gets the best of us. Right, So I'm gonna explain something.
- 1:25:41This is one of the top five battles of hip hop history. People,
- 1:25:44Okay, I'm gonna talk about this right now, and then we're gonna
- 1:25:46tweet about it at some point. This is why, because this is one
- 1:25:50of the few times where the two top people of the culture have an extensive
- 1:25:58battle. And I say extensive battle. Now you drop a song, I
- 1:26:00drop a song, and we throw subliminals made on our albums a year or
- 1:26:04two later, or whatever the case may be. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:26:08This is a battle where one guy dropped four songs, three of them
- 1:26:14in a weekend. One of them is number one on the streaming that basically
- 1:26:19these songs are charting and going like gold and shit, platinum type shit Drake
- 1:26:26dropped several songs out of this whole battle. That's like eight songs, seven
- 1:26:32or eight songs in a week or two. Let me say that again,
- 1:26:36and in a week or two, basically there's like a total of almost eight,
- 1:26:41like eight songs. No, no battle of hip hop history has they
- 1:26:46have freestyles. A song here, a song there. Nobody has seven or
- 1:26:50eight songs, uh to this degree outside of Nas and jay Z. You
- 1:26:57know what I'm saying, Cause people look at NAZ and jay Z, which
- 1:26:59is to me, was the new one about hip hop history. You know
- 1:27:01what I'm saying. People look at us ether and take over super ugly,
- 1:27:05you know whatever. But they had several freestyles that come get me, Come
- 1:27:10and get me, all these songs, you know what I'm saying. People
- 1:27:13talking still matter freestyle out for our freestyle. A lot of joints. But
- 1:27:19Drake and Kendrick a top five battle. This is the reason why and when
- 1:27:25Carris won beat mc shann. Carris one might have been one of the top
- 1:27:28mcs of the era, but Shann wasn't. Mc shann was the man in
- 1:27:31Queensbridge and a famous New York rapper, but he wasn't over the whole culture
- 1:27:36and Christmas brand New. You know what I'm saying. L was the biggest
- 1:27:41rapper in the world at one point. Battle of Kumod so you can name
- 1:27:44it as one of the top five ones, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:27:46quick and eight They were West Coast legends, but not a part, not
- 1:27:49bigger than the whole, biggest, the whole culture. Like this situation.
- 1:27:54I know nostalgia, y'all, But Drake and Kendrick is equal to like what
- 1:27:59L was when he was Battles equal to Nas and jay Z when they that's
- 1:28:01what they are right now, Just for context, Kendrick and Drake is like
- 1:28:06it's Nas and jay Z. So as big as that was for us people
- 1:28:11in Lake Florida's fiss whatever in two thousand and one, that's how big this
- 1:28:15battle was in hip hop this year in twenty twenty four. You know what
- 1:28:18I'm saying, it's one of top five biggest runs of I mean as far
- 1:28:23as like Battles Bay and the way they released this music, you know what
- 1:28:27I'm saying, The way they set the industry on fire. What was the
- 1:28:30last time the industry was on fire like this? This is bigger than fifty
- 1:28:32cent and Ji Ruth. You know what I'm saying. Fifty cent was huge.
- 1:28:36You know what I'm saying, Ji Ruth was starting to cool off,
- 1:28:39so he wasn't number one guy no more. Because jay Z and dal mesics
- 1:28:42bigger than Ji rou at the time. Nobody's bigoging the Kennedy and nobody's bigging
- 1:28:45to Drake. That's my point of saying this. Anybody who might be our
- 1:28:48age or young or older, think about a time in hip hop history were
- 1:28:54the two biggest people that meaning, nobody's bigger than them. When is that?
- 1:29:00When does that happen to hip hop? You can't really name it,
- 1:29:04can't. L L at one point was a dope and but but modep was
- 1:29:10what was was on the down side of his career. You know what I'm
- 1:29:14saying again, who else? Fifty six was on the rise to take over
- 1:29:18hip hop at the time, but John Rude Rain had ended, you know
- 1:29:24what I'm saying, So there is no there is no battle bigger than this
- 1:29:28outside of you want to continue, Noaz and jay Z and real quick for
- 1:29:30context, when I said on tour the other day, Biggi and Pop really
- 1:29:34wasn't a hip hop battles hip hop beef. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:29:38a battle is two MC's exchanging songs, freestyle skills. Yeah, you can
- 1:29:44say biggest shots and subliminals, but that was after hit them up, after
- 1:29:47Pop created the beef, after the Quad studio. It wasn't a traditional rap
- 1:29:53battle. And by the time Bigger Pot was gonna start some of that shit
- 1:29:57after Life after Death, he was dead, Bob was dead, so they
- 1:30:00didn't really get a chance to truly battle. So their names is bigger than
- 1:30:04the battle was. The beef is bigger than what a battle could be with
- 1:30:09Bigger Park in the way they died. But in terms of traditional hip hop
- 1:30:13battles outside of NAS and jay Z, this could be the biggest battle of
- 1:30:17hip hop history in a whole totalitarian of the situation. Like, I agree,
- 1:30:25I think it comes if you you know, when you're talking about the
- 1:30:30status, because I was. I was telling my brother something similar. You
- 1:30:33know, when it came to like KR riss One and Shane, I felt
- 1:30:36like that's probably more local, like U n C eight and DJ Quick what
- 1:30:43it really was right like it was it was big because we were in New
- 1:30:46York City. Yeah, this is go go down. But people, it's
- 1:30:49a nostalagi of the Craig Carriers one. And that was at the end of
- 1:30:54the day. That was a local battle. That shit didn't affect Compton,
- 1:30:56just like that's a local joint and comping battle in effect then effect New York
- 1:31:01went and Quickness battle. But Jay, yeah they did. They didn't even
- 1:31:09know. But this one right here, like I said, first of all
- 1:31:13created so to your point, history will show how large not like that is.
- 1:31:18You know what I'm saying. Because I said this to West Coast Anthem
- 1:31:20and wes Coast Classic got ready, it could potentially end up being a top
- 1:31:25five, top ten battle song in rap history because it's gonna transcend over again.
- 1:31:31Streets Club is doing all this stuff right now. It's probably it's just
- 1:31:35as big right now as any other single hip hop battle track. Look what
- 1:31:41it's doing, It's creating dances in the street. Gangman was righting to it.
- 1:31:45The club's high school of college sports games, TikTok. It's a global
- 1:31:51song now already, and a lot of your our hip hop battle songs we
- 1:31:56loved didn't go global like that, right and look in a lot of ways
- 1:32:01too. Probably the only other uh battle that had at least the opponents had
- 1:32:10a high status at the same time as probably ice Cuban n w A because
- 1:32:15n w A was still hot. It just they never released another album after
- 1:32:19that second one. It was there was still there was still hot, you
- 1:32:24know what I'm saying. And even me being down south, you know,
- 1:32:27we rocked with ice Cube and NBA, but for me it was short lived
- 1:32:32because NWA through some shots, ice Q dropped no Vasaline and and again the
- 1:32:39other big song during that time for that battle was NBBA and especially rent on
- 1:32:44Real Niggas. You know what I'm saying. Real Niggas was vicious, you
- 1:32:45know what I'm saying, and ice Q one as dope as he was Real
- 1:32:48Niggas with a bear, you know what I'm saying. Because because c C
- 1:32:53got I mean Rin got off on Real Niggas. That's one of those underrated
- 1:32:57This song hip hop history from NBBA Real Niggas, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:33:00Anybody who don't remember that joint, put that in YouTube and check it
- 1:33:03out. But yeah, man, when you look at the full context of
- 1:33:06this, I think you are gonna get I think that not like us.
- 1:33:12It's the apex of the battle. In terms of notoriety, it is the
- 1:33:17song that people will play on the West Coast, any hip hop in general
- 1:33:23for years to come, even though Family of Me the Grahams is the ether
- 1:33:28type song to me in terms of the attack, the psychological attack not like
- 1:33:32Us is the victory lap that even casual rap fans can appreciate. And once
- 1:33:36you're able to do something like that, I mean you did something special,
- 1:33:41man. So I would say it's gonna be. It's gonna end up in
- 1:33:44the top five, top ten this song in rap history, if not already,
- 1:33:46I'll say that This Battle is a top three ever in the culture because
- 1:33:51the whole when you look at the total perspective of this battle and what it
- 1:33:56means to hip hop or who they are right now in their career. You
- 1:34:00know what I'm saying, Like this is truely some epic shit, man,
- 1:34:02And I think that, yes, haters and eyes all me, it's all
- 1:34:05whack. I don't care nothing about all that nonsense. What these guys did,
- 1:34:11even outside of some of the logo insults, to respond back and forth
- 1:34:15to each other like that, with the disaggression and focus and detail, and
- 1:34:19even with Drake doing the AI. It was creative, like it or not.
- 1:34:23They did a lot of stuff in this battle and made a lot of
- 1:34:26different types of songs. Man, for the fans and for their fan base.
- 1:34:30Man, it's truely epic time. Man, we won't see two people
- 1:34:33at the top at this level for another whole generation. See, this don't
- 1:34:39happen every year. This don't happen in five years. Were talking about we'll
- 1:34:43be old men this time. This shit happened again. You know what I'm
- 1:34:45saying. Let me ask you this question. So for the Devil's Advocate side
- 1:34:53of things, this battle in particular is also amplified because of social media,
- 1:35:00Like you didn't you didn't have a tool like that because battles back in the
- 1:35:03days, even jay Z and NAS we relied heavily on radio and the new
- 1:35:12Yeah, it was like you know, chat rooms and stuff like it.
- 1:35:15It didn't have the ability to spread as quick and be as available. Like
- 1:35:19for example, you know you recorded this record, you know it goes right
- 1:35:26up as you feeding it directly to the public and everybody has access because mostly
- 1:35:30everybody has a phone or some device to get to that record right away,
- 1:35:35whereas before it was like tune in time. If you didn't have Napster or
- 1:35:41anything like that, it was like, Yo, I gotta listen to the
- 1:35:44hip hop show and hope they play it, or I got to turn on
- 1:35:46the radio to see if they play it, or maybe it's on a mixtape,
- 1:35:51you know, stuff like that. So I think that in some ways
- 1:35:56it's a little bit amplified. But if you take the crowd out of the
- 1:36:00work they put in in the amount of time, quality work in a lot
- 1:36:04of ways. Because they did a video in that yeah it's Top three easy
- 1:36:13easy man, And you know, to your point, just to kind of
- 1:36:15rebuttal the devil advagate. Part of this is the era we live in.
- 1:36:20So in life, man, any aspect of life, people say, oh,
- 1:36:24man, well let's say the NBA, NFL right now, Well,
- 1:36:27supplements are better now, food is better. Now, people got private shelves,
- 1:36:30now, people got these state of the art gems and stuff like that.
- 1:36:35Well, okay, that's fine, because this is the era. This
- 1:36:36is the time we like that time hip hop is that time in life in
- 1:36:41the world that we live in right now at this moment. So uh,
- 1:36:44yeah, it amplifies it. But this is the new world. You know
- 1:36:46what I'm saying. So all we can do is is basic on this is
- 1:36:51the time we're living in. Man. You know that other people trying to
- 1:36:54battle during the end of the era, it didn't flame like this, you
- 1:36:57know what I'm saying. So we can only look at the days of our
- 1:37:02lives, right, these are the these are the times where we just is
- 1:37:05the era we live in, you know what I'm saying, Like, Hey,
- 1:37:08you know we played we got football now, you know, ten thousand
- 1:37:12years ago there was in the damn coliseum, you know, you know,
- 1:37:15you know, you know what I'm saying. So this is and you could
- 1:37:18tackle any way you want now, you know, protect the quarterback, you
- 1:37:24know, and can't go for their legs. So oh, let me say
- 1:37:28one one thing real quick too. Uh. Somebody actually the other day after
- 1:37:32the last Drake Hart part, shicks but what is what's next for kids?
- 1:37:35And what is the kids you're gonna do next? I said, well,
- 1:37:38I felt like, not like this is the victory out, but but to
- 1:37:42put a little bit of icing on the cake, go ahead, dropper,
- 1:37:45not like that a video and Compton on the West Coast have to have you
- 1:37:50know what I'm saying, you know, a little little little cameos Ford and
- 1:37:54all these guys from the Bay have have to have the boys out doing their
- 1:37:58dancing streets. You know what I'm say, man, really getting in having
- 1:38:00to show a little piece of the club. Were getting it there, Go
- 1:38:02ahead and finish your victory that with not like us video. Man. So
- 1:38:06I honestly think that's what Kendrick working on right now. I could be totally
- 1:38:10wrong. I think that he's gonna do it not like video. And I
- 1:38:13think at some point this year we're all going to give a Kendrick Lamar album,
- 1:38:16and I think that it will be more on the line. I think
- 1:38:19he's in his in his zone right now. So I feel storytelling Kendrick coming
- 1:38:24back, not conscious to Pimple Butterfly. I think some good kid, mad
- 1:38:29city Kendrick is coming back with a little bit of damn in it man.
- 1:38:31So that's what I'm expecting, man, I'm expecting an amazing album from Kendrick
- 1:38:35Glamar this year because he did that Mister Morale as his own, like Marvin
- 1:38:40Gaye, here, my dear, that was his thirpy session. There was
- 1:38:43some getting out his emotional feelings out and stuff like that, and now I
- 1:38:45think he going back to some k dot shit. And now, honestly he
- 1:38:49would be on brand right because Good Kid Mad City's first to Pimple Butterfly is
- 1:38:55highly conceptual. Then Damn is more like Good Kid Mad City, mister Morale
- 1:39:00is more like to Pimper Butterfly with the concept. So it would be on
- 1:39:04time to another joint. And I agree, you know, I think we're
- 1:39:10going to get an album because it's been like two years, and I think
- 1:39:14it's it's crazy if they don't do a video like it has to. It's
- 1:39:17just too even if you do a video just grabbing reactions and you know what
- 1:39:24I'm saying, TikTok videos and those right now, right and and it makes
- 1:39:30it more of what it is. It's more of a community record. All
- 1:39:34right. Let me ask you this last joint, oh way, that is
- 1:39:39battling and as far as I guess, mainstream artists like this go from here
- 1:39:45because they kind of set a bar. Now that's not just record for record.
- 1:39:50They did a bunch in this back and forth that are we going to
- 1:39:55feel like the next battle that maybe you know some two guys who can go
- 1:40:00Are we gonna feel a little cheated if they only like he do a song,
- 1:40:02He do a song, and then that's it. You know what,
- 1:40:08First of all, good course, the second this is what legends do you
- 1:40:12know what I'm saying. They set a precedent each era. Most times,
- 1:40:16the legends set up what's to follow and whether people like people are not.
- 1:40:21Drake is a legend in music. Kendrick Lamar is a legend in music.
- 1:40:26They got so many different records and stuff that people will be able to look
- 1:40:30at later and said, damn they did. They set a lot of records
- 1:40:33when they was at the apex of their career. They legends in the game,
- 1:40:36So yes, what they did was legendary. Yes, anyone who battles
- 1:40:41after them, you can't just release the song. And they released on song
- 1:40:44a month later. Unfortunately, what they did now was push it up where
- 1:40:47if you're gonna battle, you better start writing. You better start writing several
- 1:40:51songs at a time so you'll be ready for the for your rebuttal that means
- 1:40:55if you gotta beat for somebody that you know you're gonna say it off with
- 1:40:58them, go and write three songs over the weekend. Just write them because
- 1:41:01when when that dude would send a song at you, you better be ready
- 1:41:05to send another song right back at him. And if he can, and
- 1:41:09if that dude send a death blow to you, you better do what Kendrick
- 1:41:13did. And I didn't even let that shit breathe and an hour later,
- 1:41:15you need to be upload on your producer need to be uploading that shit online,
- 1:41:19you know what I'm saying. So, yeah, it did change.
- 1:41:23I think it will now how better or worse? I don't know. When
- 1:41:27people start rushing in battles and putting some trash out, you know what I'm
- 1:41:30saying, or wull, they still take their time and give it two or
- 1:41:33three days to make sure they think it out, get the right beat,
- 1:41:35have the right flow, and be in pocket, or they rush. I
- 1:41:40think it's gonna do a little bit of both. For some people to go,
- 1:41:42it's gonna make them look good. I think for some people may be
- 1:41:44in battle, I think they might rush so well either way to see I
- 1:41:47don't know who's next. Like I said, we won't see this on this
- 1:41:50level for a long time. You know what, If anybody think they about
- 1:41:54to see anything like this, you're not. That's why someone game made his
- 1:41:57little comment about Rick Rosse. No, nigga, we don't want to hear
- 1:42:00you do a fifteen minute song. Nigga. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:42:02it's gonna be boring like you did a ten minute song. It's eminem it
- 1:42:05disappeared. Nobody fucking cares. You know what I'm saying. Nobody cares because
- 1:42:10it's not authentic. You're making up something, you're pushing. This has been
- 1:42:14This battle has been manifested for years, same way jay Z and Na's battle
- 1:42:18has really started. It was written now you know what I'm saying. We
- 1:42:23can debate if the lext with TV says the minimals that Jay we don't know,
- 1:42:27but there's a room on that we know we will survive. He said,
- 1:42:30you claim to be New York's king. All this stuff over years is
- 1:42:33the little shots was taken. Same with Draken and Kendrick. We don't know
- 1:42:38somebody to try to force something. That's why it's gonna be years before two
- 1:42:43huge moguls. You know what I'm saying, at the Apex is going to
- 1:42:46battle because it's got the it's got to have some backdrop to it. You
- 1:42:50got to have some meaning to it, and they're gonna have to also have
- 1:42:56somewhat the relationship Kendrick and Kendrick and Drake. Like we said, it was
- 1:42:59gonna take care a good kid man sitting a tour, they had some camaraderie
- 1:43:03jay Z and NOAs they knew each other, just likes Professor said before they
- 1:43:08was on tour for real to go before jay Z was anybody he knew,
- 1:43:12nas was. You know what I'm saying that they were very familiar with each
- 1:43:15other in a lot of different surfaces because of law Professor and because Jazz Oh
- 1:43:18and all of them. So so it was history there, you know what
- 1:43:21I'm saying. So there's no history there, it's not gonna be believable.
- 1:43:25So we go out to wait for a couple of years. Man, it
- 1:43:27really been the truth for elcident, Babe. Yeah, and again, like
- 1:43:30we said earlier, given all the things that we mentioned, and even when
- 1:43:35Tone asked me, you know how I felt when I first heard like that,
- 1:43:40it's the same thing. It was something that was brewing. It was
- 1:43:44brewing for those two individuals, is brewing for everybody who knew there was subliminals
- 1:43:48and so there was a lot more there. So obviously there's a ton of
- 1:43:53things beyond. You know, this one's a pedophile and this one's you know,
- 1:43:59a wife. You know it was extortion bars, it was ghost writer
- 1:44:02bars. There was all this in there because of material. It was naster
- 1:44:09work. It was nasty work. And like Tone said, you know,
- 1:44:12there's just a couple of individuals who, Yo, we don't want to hear
- 1:44:15from y'all. Let's focus on the task in hand. So again I agree
- 1:44:21with Tone, man, this is one of the greatest battles and hip hop
- 1:44:25history. We kind of thought it would be and it kind of played out
- 1:44:30that way. Again, we still walk away as Kendrick J. Cole and
- 1:44:34Drake fans anticipating music from all three of them. It's about nothing but the
- 1:44:42music. Anything outside of that is for y'all to talk about in debate.
- 1:44:46But definitely leave your comments in the comments section below. Do you think this
- 1:44:51is one of the greatest hip hop battles of all time? Do you think
- 1:44:56one of them dropped the song that could be top five, top ten all
- 1:45:00time? Or anything we mentioned about this battle, You can leave the comments
- 1:45:04of the comment section. Now, we're gonna do something new at the end
- 1:45:10of the show. Before we used to do album recommendations, but we're gonna
- 1:45:14switch it up to do a little bit more engagement participation if you will with
- 1:45:18a question and were Obviously we're gonna answer the question, but we want you
- 1:45:24to also answer the question in the comment section. Tone Knowing that this year
- 1:45:31twenty twenty four, we're gonna get an album from Common produced by Pete Rock
- 1:45:39and an album from Nas produced by DJ Premier, which one do you think
- 1:45:45will turn out to be the better project? Oh man, oh man,
- 1:45:55This is one of them. Questions will depend on what they ask me,
- 1:45:58But let me say this. I feel like Common sound a good on that
- 1:46:05lad on that first song, though I swear he did. I'll say this
- 1:46:11though, just for context. Production wise, I honestly think Pete Rock gonna
- 1:46:19have the better beats. And yes, outside of Doctor Dre Doctor Dreds,
- 1:46:26my West Coast goat, uh pretty much is my East Coast goat. I
- 1:46:33think that Pete Rock has been making better beats over the last ten years and
- 1:46:40hip hop ben DJ Premier. I like the new NAS Primo song It's dope.
- 1:46:45I even like I like to beat, but I think the Common and
- 1:46:49Pete Rock's song is better. I think the beat is better, but both
- 1:46:54of them are dope. I'd have to preliminary wise, I'm gonna slightly give
- 1:47:00that. The production I'm gonna give to Pete Rock. I think the way
- 1:47:04Nad's been rapping up, I don't know I comic can do that for a
- 1:47:06whole album still, maybe can you know what I'm saying. But the zone
- 1:47:10of Nods being in through the Hit Board series, I'm gonna say Nod's gonna
- 1:47:14be the better MC and I think Pete Rock gonna be the better producer.
- 1:47:20So I'm gonna you know, I'm gonna give the edge to Nozzen Primo because
- 1:47:27I think that Nazza's is gonna be spectacular and he know what's at stake with
- 1:47:30this album. I think that the song that we heard is gonna be a
- 1:47:35bonus track on there. Uh And I think that Primo is gonna come with
- 1:47:40the best he can do. He'll still be good. I think Pete Rock
- 1:47:43might have a little bit better production, but I think the overall album because
- 1:47:46of Nads where Nass been since this Hit Board run, I'll give it to
- 1:47:51Noazen Promo, but it's gonna be I think it's gonna be tough man,
- 1:47:56what about you? I agree When I wrote the question, I really had
- 1:48:00to think like hard about it because I totally agree. I feel like Pete
- 1:48:08Rock gives has the age with the beats, and NAS because of his current
- 1:48:13work, has the age with the rons and the songs in a lot of
- 1:48:17ways. They probably should switch. You know what I'm saying, because NAS
- 1:48:24and Pete Rock album sounds really good to me, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:48:28The current work one of my Pete Rock with that like that, right,
- 1:48:36you know, right? Right? But you know, just thinking about
- 1:48:40where NAS is and where Pete Rocket is, uh with his production, I
- 1:48:45think it would be I think it would be epic, man. But I'm
- 1:48:47hoping that I feel you know what, man, I feel good about both
- 1:48:51of them. They you know what I'm saying. I feel good about both
- 1:48:54albums. I'm gonna get an edge to people for the reason I said just
- 1:48:58now, man, But what a time man. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:49:00Like, I'm excited about both because I love Common people know what I
- 1:49:05what I think about Common. You know what I'm saying, Like I'm one
- 1:49:09of the biggest Common fans you'll ever You'll ever see, man, and so
- 1:49:13I'm happy for him. He looked happy on I g looked happy in the
- 1:49:16studio of Pete Rock. His interviews, he's felt, he's been he feels
- 1:49:20really good about this album. And so you know, I know somebody who
- 1:49:27heard it and they said it's incredible. Yeah, well it's coming very soon.
- 1:49:38It's coming very soon to me that that's my pick, to be honest,
- 1:49:42because it's kiming very soon. Nas in Premier have done more than just
- 1:49:48that one record. But I'm talking about I'm talking about I know somebout heard
- 1:49:53the Pete Rocking and coming. No, no, no, I'm saying I'm
- 1:49:55choosing Pete Rock in Common. Okay, Okay, it's off of what I've
- 1:50:00heard. Like, I've heard one song that wasn't that great from those two.
- 1:50:04I think it's called beat Box something like that recently off the hip hop
- 1:50:10fifty EP. This one was better than me. But it, like we
- 1:50:15all said, it kind of sound like an announcement more than yeah. But
- 1:50:19then when we heard the Common joint with Pete Rock, it was like,
- 1:50:24oh, Pete Rock Beats must have him back in his bag. So but
- 1:50:29it's so good, that's all that's all sounds good rock, right, and
- 1:50:32we're gonna listen to all of it. You know it's not one, Yeah,
- 1:50:35because we definitely have to say that as a disclaimer for some people who
- 1:50:40watch. Just because you pick one doesn't mean the other one is garbage.
- 1:50:45I mean, I don't know how many ways we can stress that, like
- 1:50:47it just doesn't because christ like, we want both, but sometimes it's fun
- 1:50:54to play shit bets. And you know what, we have to have an
- 1:50:58episode at some point. If we're lucky both comes this year, we can
- 1:51:02analyze both and we can revisit this episode and as this question, we're posing
- 1:51:08to the to the to the to the audience as far as like, yo,
- 1:51:13these two albums, the episode about these two albums and revisiting them and
- 1:51:16maybe even tracked by track by track, Uh, come comparing them like you
- 1:51:20know what I'm saying. I like to do that every now and then.
- 1:51:23And look what if we finally get you tipping, you know, because that's
