- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Cover 4.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: If you're a Section 4 football fan, you're in the right place.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: This is your podcast.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: I'm Coach Smith, and I'll be your host.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Buckle up.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: In this episode, Roger Neal will cover the A, double A, and B games.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I will cover the C, D, and A player games.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: It's here, the second season.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: The playoffs.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Playoffs?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Don't talk about playoffs?
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: You kidding me?
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Playoffs?
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Take it easy, Coach Mora.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: The Section 4 coaches have this covered.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Unlike you did.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Over the course of this weekend, there will be ten semifinal games.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Four on Friday and six on Saturday.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Twenty teams will be competing for the right to play for a Section 4 championship.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Of the ten games, all are regular season rematches with the exception of one game.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Two teams will have a bye, knowing they will definitely be playing for a Section 4 championship.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: They just don't know who.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: And Section 4 has two teams, Maine Edwell and Tyoga, seeking their third straight state championship.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Well, Roger, it's here, the second season, the playoffs.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: What do you got for us, coach?
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: All right, some good games hopefully coming up on the schedule.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: A couple of unique situations in that in AA and A, there are only three teams involved in section four.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: So thus we have a couple of the lower two seeds in the division uh playing, and then the winner will go on and take on the team that has a bye.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So here's what it looks like.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Double A, the Binghamton Patriots will be in action.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: They play at Elmira.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And in that game, Binghamton's one and eight.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Their only win this year coming over the JC Wildcats.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: While Elmira is three and five in the regular season, Elmira had no problem rolling to a 59-8 win over the Patriots.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: They were up at the half 40 to 6.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Let's take a look at the statistics here.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the stats do tell the tale of the way the season has gone.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: For Binghamton, they have given up an average of almost 43 points a game.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Well, they've scored 18.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So dramatically giving up more points than they have scored throughout the season in pretty much any contest.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, for Elmira, well, they have been able to uh come up with uh a uh 23 point per game uh uh against scoring.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: So they've given up more.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: They've scored 18 themselves, so they're on the negative side, if you will, as well.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what happens in this one.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: It's at Elmira.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: They've got the home field advantage, and of course, the winner between Bingleton and Elmira will match up next weekend at the number one seed sitting out and watching in this contest.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: It will uh match up against the team that wins.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: And in the regular season, Corning was able to beat both teams.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So they do have the edge in that department.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: What about Class A?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: UB Tigers' journey to horseheads.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: The Tigers are three and five.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: They've won two straight in the regular season, horseheads six and three, and they've lost two in a row.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: So two teams going in different directions in the regular season matchup.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: A close one horse heads was able to beat the UB Tigers 20-13.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Now, the winner of the game coming up at Horseheads will match up next weekend at number one seed Vestal.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Vestal went on to beat Horseheads in the regular season 28-7, but they lost a barn burner at Vestal.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: UE beat them 14-12 in the regular season.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what happens in that game.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: For the UB Tigers, they've averaged 19 points a game, given up 29, horseheads 34 on the plus side, scoring 20 against when they have uh been playing on defense.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: So that game is set for class A.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, in Class B, Owigo will be at Windsor, and Owego brings the 4-4 record into the game.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Windsor's 7-2, ranked 29th in New York State.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Regular season matchup.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: It was Windsor coming up with a 12-7 win over Owego.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, the other game, the semifinal in Class B, Norwich, will try to end the long winning streak for Maine and Well.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Norwich comes into that game 4-5.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: The Spartans are 8-0.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: How hot are they?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Well, they're number one in the state.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: They've won, going back a couple of seasons, 30 consecutive games.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: In the regular campaign, many thought, well, this could be a close game.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: No, Maine and Well won it 56-20.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: How about the Spartans averaging 51 and a half points a game?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: They've given up 15 and a half.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Now, even more dramatic in that major advantage is that they played often at least a quarter, sometimes a half of a game with their second or third teamers in there.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: So it's not just that they have put up those incredible numbers with the first team all the time.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: They've done it as a well-rounded unit on both sides of the football.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: So they are looking to extend that winning streak and move into the championship round in the uh B competition.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: So that is gonna put the uh the onus on Norwich to come up with pretty much what I think would have to be a perfect game if they want to stop M E's Express.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: But we'll see.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: That's why they call it the playoffs in the postseason.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: So it should be an entertaining slate, double AA, Class B, and of course, it all will come up to the championship round next weekend.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Tim.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Roger, thank you very much.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And uh I appreciate your flexibility.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Roger's on the road, and he's coming to us from his mobile studio on four wheels.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: It kind of reminds me, Roger, those couple of games you and I had to do when technology went south on us and we kind of swapped the smartphone back and forth.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, really appreciate your flexibility and also your your insight and attention to detail setting us up for this playoff weekend.

- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Hoover.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Hoover.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: His dad, who's on the staff with him, is currently the winningest coach in Section 4.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: And his grandfather wasn't too bad at Vestal either.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: They're going to take on Tyoga led by Coach Ayalo, who's making his own mark in Section 4.
