- 0:13Speaker 1: Hey guys, do me a favor. Before we keep going
- 0:16Speaker 1: on in this video, subscribe to the channel. We're over 20,000.
- 0:19Speaker 1: That is so exciting. We've got a next goal. Let's
- 0:21Speaker 1: try and make 25,000. Can we get there before the
- 0:23Speaker 1: season ends? You can help me. It takes three seconds.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hit subscribe right now.
- 0:28Speaker 2: All right, so through the first two games of the season,
- 0:30Speaker 2: Aaron Filo has given Florida pretty much exactly what it
- 0:33Speaker 2: has needed at quarterback.
- 0:35Speaker 1: He's been efficient. He's taken care of the football. He's
- 0:37Speaker 1: made some big throws. He's shown us his mobility. And
- 0:41Speaker 1: maybe most.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Importantly, he hasn't looked overwhelmed by the fact that he
- 0:45Speaker 2: is now the starting quarterback at the University of Florida.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But Saturday night, this is different.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Because we are about to find out whether Aaron Filo
- 0:54Speaker 2: can do all of those things when there are 88,000
- 0:57Speaker 2: people in Jordan-Hare Stadium trying to make his life absolutely miserable.
- 1:03Speaker 2: And to me, this is the first real test of
- 1:06Speaker 2: the Aaron Filo era at Florida. Not because he has
- 1:10Speaker 2: to throw for 350 yards.
- 1:11Speaker 1: He doesn't. Not because he needs four touchdowns. I'll take them.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And certainly not because Florida needs to put the entire
- 1:18Speaker 2: offense on his back.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I actually think that the opposite is. is true.
- 1:22Speaker 2: The biggest thing Aaron Philo needs to do Saturday night
- 1:25Speaker 2: is exactly what John Summerall has been preaching.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Be a quarterback. Don't worry about being a superstar.
- 1:31Speaker 2: If Philo can manage this environment, make good decisions, and
- 1:35Speaker 2: play within himself, I think Florida has a really good
- 1:38Speaker 2: chance to walk out of Auburn 3-0. And if he can't, well,
- 1:42Speaker 2: SEC road games have a way of exposing that pretty quickly.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So let's talk about Aaron Philo's first real SEC road test,
- 1:50Speaker 2: and what Florida needs from its quarterback Saturday night.
- 1:53Speaker 1: All right, first I want to establish something.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Philo has been good through two games. He has completed
- 1:58Speaker 2: 32 of 42 passes with five touchdowns and only one interception.
- 2:02Speaker 2: That is better than 76% completions. And while obviously the
- 2:06Speaker 2: competition gets significantly better this weekend, I think what has
- 2:10Speaker 2: impressed me the most isn't necessarily the numbers. It's how
- 2:13Speaker 2: comfortable he's looked doing it. We haven't seen a quarterback
- 2:17Speaker 2: that looks like he's constantly– searching for the answer. We
- 2:20Speaker 2: haven't seen a guy who looks like the moment is
- 2:23Speaker 2: moving a little bit faster than he is. For the
- 2:26Speaker 2: most part, Philo has just looked under control. And that
- 2:30Speaker 2: kind of lines up with everything Summerall said about him
- 2:32Speaker 2: in his press conference on Monday. Summerall called him competitive
- 2:36Speaker 2: and a good leader and confident and really coachable. And
- 2:39Speaker 2: he said his teammates really like playing with him. And
- 2:41Speaker 2: maybe most importantly for this week, he described Philo as
- 2:44Speaker 2: somebody who isn't easily rattled. Something goes wrong, moves on.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Bad play, short memory. And you really do have to
- 2:53Speaker 2: have that at quarterback. I think of the Ted Lasso,
- 2:56Speaker 2: be a goldfish. It's what you need, especially Saturday night,
- 3:00Speaker 2: because I can almost guarantee something is going to go wrong. Now,
- 3:03Speaker 2: that doesn't mean Florida loses. It means it's an SEC
- 3:06Speaker 2: road game. There's a false start. Maybe somebody misses a
- 3:09Speaker 2: protection or Philo misses a throw or Auburn gets a sack.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Maybe Florida has to burn a timeout because nobody can hear.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Maybe Auburn scores and suddenly the place just gets really
- 3:19Speaker 2: obnoxiously loud. What happens next? That is what I want
- 3:24Speaker 2: to see from Aaron Filo. Because playing quarterback on the
- 3:27Speaker 2: road in this conference is as much about managing the
- 3:29Speaker 2: bad moments as it is about creating the good ones.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And Summerall said something Monday that I thought was perfect.
- 3:35Speaker 2: He said he wants his quarterbacks more concerned with being
- 3:38Speaker 2: quarterbacks than being superstars.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Now, hopefully.
- 3:42Speaker 2: They do become superstars eventually. But first, do your job.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And I think that needs to be Aaron Fila's mentality
- 3:50Speaker 2: Saturday night. You do not have to win the game
- 3:52Speaker 2: on every play. You don't have to silence Jordan Hare
- 3:55Speaker 2: with some ridiculous 60-yard throw on Florida's first possession.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You don't need to prove anything.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Operate the offense. Get everybody lined up. Get the football
- 4:04Speaker 2: where it needs to go. And when a play isn't there,
- 4:07Speaker 2: live to play another down. I know that sounds really
- 4:10Speaker 2: simple sitting here talking about it, and it becomes a
- 4:12Speaker 2: lot harder when you can barely hear the guy standing
- 4:15Speaker 2: next to you. And maybe that's the biggest adjustment this week, communication.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Philo actually talked about that himself. He said in an
- 4:23Speaker 2: environment this loud, he has to be louder with the
- 4:26Speaker 2: offensive line and maybe even need to get physically closer
- 4:29Speaker 2: to those guys to make sure that everybody's getting the call.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And Summerall said Florida will pump crowd noise into practice
- 4:36Speaker 2: all week long to try and simulate that. But he
- 4:38Speaker 2: did also admit that there really isn't a perfect way
- 4:41Speaker 2: to recreate that and make these kids feel ahead of
- 4:45Speaker 2: time what they're about to experience. You can turn speakers
- 4:48Speaker 2: up as loud as you want. It's still not Jordan
- 4:50Speaker 2: Hare at night. Some guys on this team have been
- 4:53Speaker 2: in environments like that, but some haven't. And Philo has
- 4:56Speaker 2: not started in game in an environment like that. And honestly,
- 4:59Speaker 2: I don't know that Philo has even been a part
- 5:02Speaker 2: of a game that had an environment like he's about
- 5:04Speaker 2: to experience.
- 5:06Speaker 1: So... There are little.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Things we probably don't talk enough about that are suddenly
- 5:10Speaker 2: going to become really important. Can Florida get the play
- 5:13Speaker 2: communicated quickly? Can Philo get everybody set? Can the offensive
- 5:17Speaker 2: line hear the cadence or whatever silent communication Florida chooses
- 5:20Speaker 2: to use? Can Florida avoid burning timeouts? Can they avoid
- 5:25Speaker 2: delay game penalties? And maybe most importantly, can they avoid
- 5:30Speaker 2: the pre-snap penalties that turn a manageable down into a
- 5:33Speaker 2: terrible situation? Because one of the absolute worst things Florida
- 5:37Speaker 2: can do Saturday night is put Aaron Philo in third
- 5:39Speaker 2: and long over and over and over again. That is
- 5:42Speaker 2: when the crowd really becomes a factor. That is when
- 5:45Speaker 2: Auburn can pin its ears back, and that's when protections
- 5:47Speaker 2: become more difficult. And that is when a young quarterback
- 5:50Speaker 2: is much more likely to make a mistake. Florida has
- 5:53Speaker 2: to help Philo. And that starts with the running game.
- 5:56Speaker 2: We've talked a lot about Jaden Baugh, and deservedly so.
- 5:59Speaker 2: He has three consecutive 100-yard rushing games going back to
- 6:02Speaker 2: last season. But this week, the run game isn't just
- 6:06Speaker 2: about Jaden Baugh putting up a big number. It's about
- 6:09Speaker 2: keeping Aaron Filo out of bad situations. If Florida can
- 6:12Speaker 2: consistently get four or five yards on first down, the
- 6:15Speaker 2: entire playbook stays open. If you are looking for game
- 6:19Speaker 2: day gear, Alumni Hall has everything you could possibly need
- 6:23Speaker 2: and more. All the best brands, Nike, Jordan, Peter Millar,
- 6:27Speaker 2: Cutter & Buck, everything you are looking for all in
- 6:30Speaker 2: one place. If you have the opportunity to visit the
- 6:33Speaker 2: store in Gainesville, it's over there on Archer Road, or
- 6:35Speaker 2: you can order online at alumnihall.com.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But don't forget to use our code. It's PEAK15. That's P-E-E-K-1-5.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It's going to save you 15% off. Your entire purchase,
- 6:46Speaker 2: you can use it in the store or online. Big
- 6:49Speaker 2: thank you to Alumni Hall for all their support. And
- 6:51Speaker 2: make sure you guys check them out and tell them
- 6:52Speaker 2: that Allie sent you. Now you can run it. Now
- 6:55Speaker 2: you can use play action. Now you can get Philo
- 6:57Speaker 2: outside the pocket. You can throw something quick. You can
- 7:00Speaker 2: take a shot if you like the matchup. But if
- 7:02Speaker 2: Florida constantly is facing second and 11 because of a
- 7:05Speaker 2: negative run or a holding penalty or some kind of
- 7:08Speaker 2: pre-snap mistake, now Auburn knows what's coming. And that's exactly
- 7:12Speaker 2: what you don't want with a quarterback making his first
- 7:15Speaker 2: SEC road start. The offensive line is going to be
- 7:18Speaker 2: a huge part of this. Summerall was very complimentary of
- 7:21Speaker 2: Auburn's front. He said they're physical. They knock people back.
- 7:25Speaker 2: He loves their linebackers. Their safeties fit the run well.
- 7:28Speaker 2: They're going to be completely different from what Florida has
- 7:31Speaker 2: faced the first two weeks. And so when we talk
- 7:35Speaker 2: about this being Philo's first real test, it's really a
- 7:38Speaker 2: test of the entire offense that's around him as well.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Can Florida protect its young quarterback by being able to
- 7:44Speaker 2: run the football? Can the offensive line keep the pocket clean?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Can the receivers continue blocking the way that Summerall has
- 7:50Speaker 2: praised them for blocking?
- 7:52Speaker 1: Can Florida stay on schedule?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Because the best way to help your quarterback deal with
- 7:56Speaker 2: the hostile environment is to make that environment irrelevant.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And the best way to do that, move the chains.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Nothing takes a crowd out of a game faster than
- 8:07Speaker 2: an offense that keeps converting first downs. And nothing gets
- 8:11Speaker 2: that crowd back into it faster than a 3-0. Guys,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I'm going to take a quick break from this video
- 8:17Speaker 2: to let you know another way that you can support
- 8:19Speaker 2: the channel. If you are interested in it, you can
- 8:22Speaker 2: join our Patreon page. It's patreon.com forward slash Allie Peek.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I drop little nuggets and tidbits over there all the time,
- 8:29Speaker 2: let you know what I'm hearing about recruiting or things
- 8:30Speaker 2: going on inside the locker room. It's just another way
- 8:33Speaker 2: you can choose to support if you want. Patreon.com forward
- 8:36Speaker 2: slash Allie Peek. The first quarter, guys, is going to
- 8:40Speaker 2: tell us a lot. I don't even necessarily care if
- 8:42Speaker 2: Florida scores on their first possession. I want to see
- 8:45Speaker 2: how they operate. Does Philo look comfortable? Are they getting
- 8:48Speaker 2: the snap off with a lot of time? Do you
- 8:51Speaker 2: guys know where they're supposed to be? Are they committing penalties?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Does Philo look like the same guy that we've watched
- 8:57Speaker 2: the last two weeks in Gainesville? Because if Florida gets
- 9:00Speaker 2: through the first couple of possessions cleanly, then from there,
- 9:03Speaker 2: I think the game kind of starts to settle down.
- 9:05Speaker 2: And then, obviously, so does Philo. There is another thing
- 9:08Speaker 2: I really like about his game going into this matchup.
- 9:11Speaker 2: He doesn't appear to be the type of guy that
- 9:14Speaker 2: needs to be the hero. There's going to be the
- 9:18Speaker 2: temptation Saturday night to make something happen when nothing is there.
- 9:21Speaker 1: You escape pressure. The crowd is loud.
- 9:23Speaker 2: A receiver is kind of open downfield, and you think, hmm,
- 9:27Speaker 2: maybe I can squeeze this one in. That's when you
- 9:30Speaker 2: have to be willing to throw it away or take
- 9:32Speaker 2: the check down or even take a sack if the
- 9:34Speaker 2: alternate is putting the football in jeopardy.
- 9:38Speaker 1: The one thing Florida cannot afford.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Is turnovers that feed the crowd. You throw an interception
- 9:43Speaker 2: in Gainesville against Campbell, you hear some groans. You turn
- 9:46Speaker 2: the football over at Jordan-Hare, the entire stadium changes. And
- 9:51Speaker 2: now Auburn's offense takes the field with momentum. That's why
- 9:54Speaker 2: I keep coming back to the Summerall quote, be a quarterback,
- 9:57Speaker 2: not a superstar. You don't need the Aaron Filo-Heisman game Saturday.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You need the Aaron Filo winning the football game on Saturday.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And those could be two very different things. Maybe he
- 10:09Speaker 2: throws for 225 yards. Maybe he only throws 25 times.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Maybe Jaden Baugh carries it for 25 times.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Who cares?
- 10:15Speaker 2: If Florida wins, nobody is going to complain that Filo
- 10:18Speaker 2: didn't throw for 400 yards. And to me, this is
- 10:21Speaker 2: where Buster Faulkner becomes really important too. Help your quarterback
- 10:24Speaker 2: settle in. Give him some easy completions early.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Use the run game. Use the tight ends. Use some screens.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Move the pocket. Find Vernell Brown in space.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Let Philo complete some passes.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Let him get hints once or twice and then realize, okay,
- 10:38Speaker 1: I'm good. This is still football. Because that was basically.
- 10:41Speaker 2: His own message this week. He knows the environment's going
- 10:44Speaker 2: to be different. But at the end of the day,
- 10:45Speaker 2: football is football. Don't make it bigger than it is.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And I love that mentality. Now we have to see
- 10:50Speaker 2: whether he can actually live it because it's really easy
- 10:54Speaker 2: on Monday to say, hey, we're not going to let
- 10:55Speaker 2: this game be bigger than it is. But then you
- 10:57Speaker 2: walk out of the tunnel on Saturday night and the
- 10:59Speaker 2: place is packed and you can't hear and Auburn is
- 11:02Speaker 2: flying around and SEC Nation's been there all day and
- 11:05Speaker 2: the crowd is nice and inebriated and suddenly it feels
- 11:08Speaker 2: pretty big. And that is where the quarterback has to
- 11:11Speaker 2: settle everybody else down. And maybe the most encouraging thing
- 11:15Speaker 2: Summerall said Monday was that Philo has been steady.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Not perfect. Steady. And I think there's a difference. Summerall
- 11:22Speaker 1: said if.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Philo continues playing the way he's played through the first
- 11:24Speaker 2: part of the season, he gives Florida a chance to
- 11:27Speaker 2: win every week.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Think about what that means.
- 11:29Speaker 2: He's not asking Philo to suddenly become somebody else because
- 11:32Speaker 2: it's Auburn. He's asking him to be exactly who he
- 11:35Speaker 2: has been.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Make good decisions. Be competitive. Lead. Don't get rattled. Move
- 11:40Speaker 1: on from mistakes. And give your team a chance.
- 11:43Speaker 2: And frankly, I think we're about to learn a lot
- 11:45Speaker 2: more about Aaron Philo Saturday night than we learned in
- 11:47Speaker 2: the first two games combined. FAU and Campbell told us
- 11:50Speaker 2: he was capable of running this offense. Auburn can tell
- 11:53Speaker 2: us whether he's ready to lead through the SEC. Can
- 11:56Speaker 2: you do it when the crowd's against you? Can you
- 11:58Speaker 2: do it when you're taking a hit? Can you do
- 12:00Speaker 2: it after making a mistake? Can you do it when
- 12:02Speaker 2: your running game gets stuffed? Can you convert a third
- 12:05Speaker 2: and seven when everybody in the stadium knows you're going
- 12:08Speaker 2: to throw the ball? Can you make the right decision
- 12:10Speaker 2: late in the fourth quarter when the game is actually
- 12:12Speaker 2: on your shoulders? Those are the questions we haven't had
- 12:15Speaker 2: answered yet. And that's why I'm so fascinated by this
- 12:19Speaker 2: Florida-Auburn game. You could pretty much make a convincing argument
- 12:23Speaker 2: that the single most important thing Florida needs to learn
- 12:26Speaker 2: Saturday isn't whether the defense can stop Auburn. It isn't
- 12:29Speaker 2: whether Florida can run the football. It isn't even whether
- 12:32Speaker 2: John Summerall can get his first SEC win. It's whether
- 12:35Speaker 2: Florida has found its quarterback. Not for FAU, not for Campbell,
- 12:40Speaker 2: but for the SEC portion of the schedule. Saturday night
- 12:45Speaker 2: in Jordan-Hare Stadium, Aaron Filo gets his first chance to
- 12:47Speaker 2: show us. And if it's the same calm, confident, steady
- 12:51Speaker 2: quarterback we've watched through the first two weeks and that's
- 12:54Speaker 2: who shows up in Auburn, then Florida may have something
- 12:58Speaker 2: really interesting on its hands. I appreciate you guys for
- 13:02Speaker 2: tuning in.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And all your support. And a big thank you to
- 13:04Speaker 1: PrizePix as well.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Don't forget, new users can download the app, play our code,
- 13:08Speaker 2: it's HMA, and a $ 5 lineup. And if you win,
- 13:11Speaker 2: you'll get $ 150 in lineups instantly. As always, guys, thank
- 13:15Speaker 2: you for watching and go Gators.
