- PlayBetter: Is the Flightscope Mivo Gen 2 the best golf launch monitor for the most number of golfers? That's the question we're answering today. We are going deep on all things Gen 2. This is Golf Tech Weekly presented by Playbut. All right, welcome back everybody. ⁓ a reminder to all of our listeners ⁓ to please like, subscribe, comment. ⁓ we love love hearing from you. Very much appreciate everyone's support. And also a reminder that Playbetter has an exclusive discount code, GTW, that we'll link to below. So head over to playbetter.com and enjoy ⁓ discounts on qualified products. So, Daniel, today we are getting into a topic that I know you know a lot about. finally, ⁓ you're finally pulling your weight around here. we ⁓ we're talking, we're talking Mevo Gen 2, and we have as qualified of a person on hand as you could possibly have in my main man, Daniel Fitzpatrick. ⁓ Daniel was on the Flight Scope team when the Gen 2 was designed, when it was marketed, when it was released. ⁓ he knows the product from the perspective of the manufacturer, now from the perspective of the retailer, certainly from his own grind sessions, from the perspective of the golfer. And so I know you've got a lot of thoughts to share and ⁓ appreciate you being willing to share them. ⁓ ultimately, ⁓ with Daniel's wisdom ⁓ and some of my own insights, having used the products also, ⁓ we hope to help everybody. kind of understand ⁓ where the Gen 2 fits in all of their options and if it in fact is the best option for the most number of golfers. We know, of course, with so many products available in 2026 that it's not right for every single golfer. That's a given. ⁓ But it very well may be the right choice for you. And I think a lot of that is going to come down to how you practice, where you practice, how you like to play sim golf. etc. etc. So we're going to unpack all of that. ⁓ Daniel, kick us off here with a with a little bit of a recap of what the Gen two is, kind of the evolution of the Mivo product line and and how we got here to the the new affordable flagship for Flight Scope. Yeah, thanks Mark. So you know Mivo Gen two, it's called Gen two for a reason, right? So before the Gen two, Flight Scope debuted even the original Mivo, ⁓ almost nine years ago. So that was a small personal launch monitor. It was one of the first personal launch monitors that you could take portably to the range and get data right to your cell phone. ⁓ a few years later, ⁓ brought out the Mevo Plus and that really changed personal launch monitors and kind of blasted off all of these products we have today. I mean they they really were one of the first to have a portable launch monitor that was capable of simulation at an affordable price. ⁓ and it was capable of a lot. I mean, the the data that it came with and plus the data you could add on, it it was really incredible. I mean, it gave you tools that really expensive launch monitors were only capable of before that. ⁓ now that that product had some flaws. ⁓ it had poor battery life, ⁓ it had some inconsistencies in short game and and even some driver data and stuff. ⁓ The Gen 2 has really, really tidied a lot of that up. ⁓ and they've even changed the way the device is oriented and how it sits and where the camera is positioned. And all of that went into some critical thinking to ensure that this was the most accurate product that and the most data for basically the most valued price with no subscriptions. So they really did put a lot of thought into it. And it's, I mean, we're coming up on a year now from when it was released. It's been insanely popular. ⁓ there haven't been any major widespread massive issues with the products or anything like that. ⁓ it feels like the most successful launch of a product that they've probably had as far as like smooth launching and making sure everything was ready to go right out of the box. I know we've talked in previous episodes that maybe some of these new people in the in the launch modern market have kind of stumbled out of the gates. ⁓ the Mevo Gen 2 has been rock solid pretty much since it it came out. and they've they've slowly even made it better. ⁓ shortly after launch they they unlocked the Pro Package and Face Impact location and we'll definitely get into the to the aspects of those. ⁓ but overall it's just such a well-rounded device that has so much data that users, club fitters, teachers can all use ⁓ in their practice or while playing around Yeah. Yeah, no question. ⁓ honestly, what Flightscope did here is kind of rare, right? I mean, they took a launch monitor that used to sell for around $2,300 in the Mivo Plus, ⁓ and they made it better, just as you said, Daniel, and they brought it down to $1,300 or or $1,000 less. ⁓ so same tracking engine ⁓ that's in the now discontinued Mivo Plus, ⁓ and even in their ultimate pro-level flagship. ⁓ $15,000 X3C. So the same fusion tracking. ⁓ And, you know, clearly, obviously making that price adjustment is their reaction to what's now a much more competitive market. ⁓ So ultimately the winner here is the consumer. ⁓ Still ⁓ doesn't necessarily mean that ⁓ that that $1300 is a good deal ⁓ for for you. We're gonna try to get into all of that. But Daniel, talk about kind of what fusion tracking is and and why it's exciting to get that in their new less expensive and still improved product. Sure. So fusion tracking was originally ⁓ software, excuse me, ⁓ hardware ⁓ capabilities that was really only in the X3 model. And like you said, Mark, that was a fifteen thousand dollar piece of technology. ⁓ what it is is it's the combination of radar and camera technology. So in previous years, and even when I first started working at Flightscope, ⁓ a lot of the previous radar type products, they they were just radars. They might have had a camera on them for alignment, maybe at the range, but that was all it was used for. And the problem was, and this is something that radar products, even you know, like Trackman or other products struggled with, you would hit wedges or high lofted clubs and there would be so much debris flying through the air that the radar would actually get confused of what's a ball, what's turf, what's the where's the club. And a lot of times because of that, you would get no club data reported at all. Because instead of reporting inaccurate data, the software systems would be designed or or programmed to just say, if I don't know, I'm not going to report. ⁓ and so where that led to was fusion tracking and they can use the camera To essentially assist the radar in understanding where the ball is, where the club is, and help assist in even taking some of those measurements. So what it really did is it it enhanced the capture rate, it enhanced the accuracy. And that's really where the X three started gaining a lot of traction in being able to really get a lot of wedge data, especially with finesse type wedge shots, where maybe they're less than a hundred yards. Sometimes you're taking huge divots or large pieces of grass or anything, you know. Just a lot of debris flying through the air. Well, they took that technology and they pushed it into the Mivo Plus and now into the Mivo Gen 2. And so you might say, okay, well, how does that help me if I'm if I'm playing indoors and there's no turf? Well, your capture rate is always going to be consistently high. ⁓ your short game capture is gonna be better, especially on finesse chip shots and stuff. So it assists in so many different things, but it is a patented technology that they have. of combining that camera and radar technology. So it it is unique to Flight Scope of how they measure ⁓ the data. Yeah. Yeah. I think kind of s you know, and speaking of kind of that data, and you mentioned kind of those those shorter chip shots and and just accuracy across the board capture rate. I think one thing that we're likely to return to here throughout the discussion today are some of these pillar points about flight scope. ⁓ The the Gen 2, one thing about it is it is unbelievably accurate. It it really is incredibly accurate. ⁓ also the capture rate is incredibly impressive indoors and outdoors, just for the reasons that you just pointed out, Daniel. ⁓ the other thing is the amount of data that this device gives you, especially after you add the pro package, which will we will get into. Those to me are kind of the pillars that we're going to continuously discuss. The fourth one being no subscriptions. So here we have a device that's unbelievably accurate, includes an unbelievable amount of data, ⁓ has a very, very strong capture rate, and and does so in a in a in a really portable package ⁓ that's very competitively priced. So kind of those are the things that I think are are kind of big ⁓ winners for the for the Mivo ⁓ Gen 2 and probably the irrefutable points. I don't know that anyone would say the Gen 2 isn't accurate or that it doesn't include a lot of data. ⁓ and then the no subscriptions point ⁓ is a is a huge one when you when you talk about ⁓ competing options, which again we're going to get into. ⁓ who, Daniel, before we kind of go any further, who is the target user? Who do you think is the the kind of at the surface? the golfer that's most likely to be initially interested in the in the Mibo Gen 2. Yeah, so I think the Gen 2 is actually kind of unique, ⁓ just in the fact that it can really appeal to really every level of golfer, all the way up to a golf professional or fitter. And there's a few reasons why. So golf professional and fitter, the accuracy and the amount of data stand out alone. ⁓ and even just the standard driving range software, the views you get, the data capturing you can get. the unlimited profile creation that you get out of it. So you can create a profile for each of your students. You can tell that's kind of what Flightscope's core you know, is at and where they started and and who their target audience was at the beginning of their inception. And they still carry that within their software today. But even all the way up to just a a very average or beginner golfer who wants something with no subscriptions but is accurate and then even has the ability to be a golf simulator. I I think it really does appeal to every level of golfer. ⁓ and especially that golfer who wants to use the device at the driving range as well at home. ⁓ there's just there's a few features within the software that that really make it stand out and and allow it to to kind of seamlessly do that. Of course, you have to have the space at home to be able to use it, and we'll we'll talk about that a little bit too. but overall, I really do think that it's one of the few products that really can be appealing. To almost every level of golfer, including including people who teach golf for a living. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. All right, let's ⁓ let's back up just a second and and talk again about some of those comparisons to the outgoing Mivo Plus. That was a great product that had a long run and was very, very successful for Flight Scope. Just as Daniel said, it's now improved. Let's talk about some of the specific improvements and also maybe where ⁓ where there's a potential slight drawback. ⁓ that being with the E6 Connect course package that's included. ⁓ there is kind of a good news story at the end of that. ⁓ still good news overall. You get eight E6 Connect courses out of the box, and they're really good courses. You get what? You got Torrey Pine South, you got Kapalua, Sea Island, ⁓ you got Arnie's ⁓ childhood course, Latrobe, ⁓ Kiowas in there. ⁓ really strong courses. ⁓ and then you have the option. To add on ⁓ more to get what was the old Mevo Plus E6 Connect ⁓ course package, of what, that was a dozen courses, right, Daniel? Yeah, 12 courses, including ⁓ St. Andrew's, Pebble Beach. I mean, some of these courses in the package, you used to have to pay a huge premium. I mean, even just like the Pebble Beach package with with E6 is like I think over seven hundred dollars. So, ⁓ To get access to that for a one time fee is is honestly pretty awesome. Plus all the packages, not only the one you get with the Gen 2, but if you add on that that additional package, you get it for both iOS and PC. So now you're opening up the option of not having such a hard ⁓ hardware requirement just to get set up and running at home. Cause a lot of these other systems, you have to have that gaming PC, which you don't have to have with Gen two. What is the one time ⁓ what is the one time cost on that to add on to Yeah, the twelve course package is two hundred and fifty dollars. Okay. Yeah. So I mean that's serious value and something that that ⁓ a la carte may have cost you seven hundred dollars ⁓ you know, just to just for Pebble Beach, right? And so now the Pebble Pebble Beach and the old course alone thrown in there is ⁓ is really, really strong. ⁓ other differences between the Gen 2 or improvements, ⁓ the better battery life. And the larger radar. Can you can you talk about those and and and why they matter? Yeah. So battery life was was huge. ⁓ that was one of the biggest downfalls of Mevo Plus over time, especially once pro package is added, it actually drains more batteries. So it it got even ⁓ you know, after after you use it for a year or two, you might be barely itching an hour out of it. So it was almost like you had to have a USB battery pack or it had to be plugged in while you're playing rounds of golf. ⁓ Gen two really fixed a lot of that. I mean, up to six hours. I mean, I I don't think I can spend anywhere near that amount of time on a driving range session. ⁓ but you think of like a club fitter, a teacher, they can get a full day out of it. ⁓ you think about playing a couple rounds of golf with your buddies at home, you know, you're cordless, you can play wireless that way. ⁓ so a lot of benefits to having that that longer battery life. ⁓ and then the the larger radar panel, definitely useful. ⁓ enhanced accuracy. ⁓ when you're outdoors it's gonna track the golf ball further. ⁓ which is important to note. ⁓ it is still limited tracking radar, which means it's not tracking the entire ball flight. They won't tell you how far it's tracking and I I won't tell you how far it's tracking, but it is tracking a good portion of the ball flight before it it does ⁓ you know, provide its its ballistic model for for the calculations on distance. ⁓ but overall it's you know it's it's Thoughtful upgrades. It also upgraded with a USB-C charging cable. So it kind of makes things easier from a user perspective because everything in our life seems to be USB-C now. So just little thoughtful things that have gone a long way ⁓ with these upgrades. Yeah, it used to be USB Mini. And just as you say, that's maybe that's seems like a small upgrade, but ⁓ practically speaking, a very big one, ⁓ especially when you lose the cable and you and you, you know, all of us have. plenty of USB C cables around the house at this point. And so just like you said, that's a it's a real convenience factor. The ⁓ same thing with the the the longer battery life. ⁓ you know, I just think in terms of when I come back from the range, I don't always ⁓ plug the device back in. ⁓ and so to be able to potentially get, you know, multiple trips to the range before I do have to recharge is is a is a nice, nice ⁓ benefit. ⁓ all right, let's talk about the data. ⁓ this has always been Flight Scopes ⁓ strong suit. They they give you a ton of data. The data quality is, as I said at the top, ⁓ really irrefutable, especially for the price point. ⁓ If you do, in fact, set the device up correctly. ⁓ Another thing that's improved here. ⁓ So right out of the box, and should remember too that no subscription asked. ⁓ Vertical and horizontal launch angle, spin rate, spin access, spin loft, angle of attack, apex height, flight time, lateral landing, shot dispersion, and shot type. ⁓ the list was any longer, it would be that much more annoying to hear me read all of those metrics. ⁓ that's impressive. I mean, that's impressive right out of the box. Do you think that that is enough to satisfy the beginner golfer or to really help somebody improve? Yeah, a hundred percent. ⁓ you know, I think a lot of of even, you know, fifteen, ten to fifteen handicaps fall in love with face and path. ⁓ and in reality, some of the more basic data is what they need to focus on. And so the nice data set that you get with the Gen 2 really covers everything that you that you need first off to to be able to use it as a golf simulator. ⁓ but also some of the club data like angle of attack, I think that's such an underli underutilized ⁓ data parameter, even just looking at lateral landing and seeing how far off of off the target line your ball is landing for dispersion. I mean, some of these things it might seem like so simplistic, but it's actually some of the most useful data that you can get into. And then over time you can you can add in the more important or the more the more ⁓ in depth ⁓ data parameters. But this this data set that comes with it, it's everything you need to get started and working on your game. I honestly believe that. Yeah. And so then if you do want to take it up a notch, a considerable notch, ⁓ you've got the pro package add-on option. That introduces path, ⁓ face to path, face to target, dynamic loft, vertical and horizontal swing plane, low point, vertical descent angle, curve, club spleed profile, club acceleration profile. It goes very, very deep. ⁓ that's actually ⁓ I learned from you, Daniel, that there's even more buried in there. I mean, it's I remember when we had the ⁓ the episode, I think it will maybe it was with the the stack system, ⁓ where we were talking, ⁓ or maybe it was with Cordy Walker, just talking about just how much is buried in there. ⁓ just kind of talk about how extensive it is, if you if you could just give us a taste. Yeah. So I mean you you talk about loads of data. I remember when I first started working at Flight Scope, I I literally had to make flashcards to learn all of this data. ⁓ I mean, it it really is an in depth review. I mean, it's like an MRI for your golf swing, right? That's what we always used to tell people is it's like it's literally like getting every piece of your golf swing, the layers peeled back and and you get the truth. I mean, you get it you get understand what the heck's going on. but yeah, I mean the the the beauty of the pro package, like we said, you can add it at any time. ⁓ it is it is very, very in depth data, but it's not just a number on a data tile that you look at. I mean, there is 2D and three D pictures of the club if you're a visual learner, which is huge. It shows you literally on the screen what that club looked like at impact. And it's important to note this this measurement is being taken at the first touch of the ball in club. So this is before any energy transfer. So the golf ball isn't affecting anything, the ground isn't affecting anything. This is a true measurement. Of when that ball and club is touching. That's something Flightscope does differently than most other measurement systems. ⁓ but the data is is really impressive. I mean, this is something that a club fitter uses. This is something that that a golf instructor uses when they're teaching you lessons. So if you want a full-blown deep dive of what's going on, that this is what this is for you, honestly. Yeah. ⁓ now, what they've also done is they've thrown in the speed and acceleration profiles. And These two things are some of the most in depth data that you can see of what's going on with your golf shaft. ⁓ this is truly like almost like an MRI reading and it it basically shows you if the shaft is is working functionally for you or if it's if it's making life hard for you. great club fitting tool, great tool to check up on your golf game, ⁓ e or your golf equipment even. ⁓ it shows tendencies, it shows ⁓ tempos, it's it's really ⁓ some in-depth information. ⁓ now the nice part is is you might say, okay, this is way too much for me. How am I gonna learn all of this? Believe it or not, they do have a section of their software ⁓ in the app where you can go in and get dictionary definitions and pictures of each of these data parameters. So they do help coach you along the way with understanding what the data parameters are. ⁓ But you might need to reference like your load your local golf professional on, hey, if I if I really work on my angle of attack, how's that gonna affect my club path or how's that gonna affect ⁓ my vertical launch angle or thing? ⁓ you know, you might not realize that when you're working on one piece of your game how it affects the other. So ⁓ you know, yes, it's ⁓ it it can be data overload, but if you know how to use it, it can be so powerful and and you can really unlock ⁓ you know, kind of advancing in your own game so quickly. Yeah, no doubt. ⁓ so the Pro Package is a one-time ⁓ add-on. ⁓ right now it's priced at ⁓ seven hundred dollars, I wanna say, which is a discount because normally that's a thousand dollar package. So ⁓ quite a considerable discount, actually. ⁓ and so just as Daniel said, if you're looking for the most extensive ⁓ information, in fact, ⁓ far, far more data And far, far more ⁓ opportunity to interact with that data and analyze it and organize it and and compare it ⁓ than any competing device in this price range, then adding the pro package is what kind of unlocks that for you. ⁓ again, one time price of seven hundred dollars, that's a a little bit of a gulping point, I suppose, but ⁓ as we'll get into later, you know, the trade-off is that it's one time and there's no there's no ongoing subscription. ⁓ Then you have an additional add-on option and that would be the face impact location. ⁓ Daniel, I know you're huge on this in terms of ⁓ this being something to help golfers improve. Can you talk more about kind of the value of face impact location and why that might be a real selling point for the Gen 2? Yeah, totally. ⁓ Yeah, there's not there's hardly any launch monitors that show face impact location under ten thousand dollars. ⁓ actually right now there's only two. Before before there was only Flight Scope. We're the only ones that were offering this. ⁓ now the new Square Omni is gonna start offering that. ⁓ or already is, not is going to. They are offering it. ⁓ but the beauty of the of the Gen two, there's no stickers or anything required on your club face. You just go and swing. You can use it indoors and outdoors. Indoors you are gonna need some lighting. ⁓ you do have to have at least 300 Lux lighting in the space, which is a pretty standard light lighting in the area. Any light fixture will push off that much. ⁓ but it's it's such powerful data. ⁓ I talked earlier about how people fall in love with face and path and all of that club data. First and foremost, the most important piece of data that you can use is making sure you're hitting the ball in the center of the club face. ⁓ it's probably the one thing that a golf professional or a professional golfer does that amateurs do not. ⁓ They are so good at squarely hitting the golf ball every time with every club in their bag. And like we said earlier, this upgrade, it's not just a data tile or saying, ⁓ you're hitting it, you know, a quarter of an inch up or a quarter of an inch towards the toe or anything like that. It's it's a full blown 3D rendering, two D rendering picture with heat mapping capabilities. I mean, holy cow. It it's such visual feedback, especially for people like myself, visual learners. For the longest time I thought I was just flushing iron shots. And then I I started getting into this data and I'm like, wow, I'm like I'm like a a tenth of an inch from shanking every ball. Like I'm so much on the heel. And then when you start actually hitting the golf ball in the center, you actually see how much distance you gain, how much less dispersion you have, how much better flighting capability you have. I mean, it's it's literally so powerful. So ⁓ it's it's really important data. They used to have a gateway where you had to have the pro package to get the face impact. They've removed that completely. So if you just want the basic data set and the face impact, you can do that. ⁓ they've done a really good job of bringing this this data at such an affordable price. And again, one time, not not a subscription thing. So I think it's something that's really still even, you know, kind of unique to them in the fact that it's so accurate without any additional needs for for you know, stickering or anything like that on your clubs. Right. So face impact location, just as Daniel said, a la carte option. You do not need the pro package to get to it. It is also on sale. So that's a $350 one time add-on. ⁓ normally that's five hundred dollars. ⁓ and then if you want to bundle the two, the pro package and the face impact location together, ⁓ you can get that currently for nine hundred and seventy five dollars, which again is a discounted price. ⁓ normally that is a fifteen hundred dollar package, if I'm not mistaken, Daniel. ⁓ and so ⁓ yeah, ⁓ certainly a good time to act if those things are of interest to you. But why would I pay three hundred and fifty dollars if I could just go buy a ⁓ a can of ⁓ of foot powder spray and spray that on my club face, Daniel? Yeah, you you might ask yourself that because a can of foot powder spray is a couple bucks. ⁓ but if you think about it, you know, you're gonna have to re-spray that almost every shot. You're gonna have to do it every at least every couple of shots. ⁓ you know, it's just so and also you don't get to keep any of that feedback. Right. Yeah. So if I want to be able to, you know, and I'm someone who likes to review session to session and see, you know, maybe where did I look like two, three weeks ago compared to today or something like that. The app is actually very good at storing sessions and you can go back and you can see those tendencies and see that pattern ⁓ to see kind of what it what am I growing, where am I falling behind. ⁓ so that would be a huge benefit in my opinion. ⁓ plus to be able to just hit 30 balls with the same club, and then just pull up the heat map and I can see okay, what's my average, not just what was every single shot, because this game is a law of averages. So I want to see where am I sitting over a period of shots, not just one swing at a time. Right. Yep. ⁓ also another thing that our ProPack edge unlocks is the environmental optimizer. ⁓ can you explain that and and kind of some of those benefits? Sure. So environmental optimizer is a very, again, another very useful tool, but it was actually something that Flightscope worked directly with Bryson DeChambeau on. ⁓ and he wanted a tool with his X3 at the time to be able to plan for where he was traveling to play at. So he'd say, Okay, I played this tour event this week in California. Next week I'm going to Arizona or somewhere maybe with some altitude. I want to be able to plug in my weather and my location. And see what's it going to do to my ball flight. Yeah. So it actually shows on the screen, you'll get two different trajectories. You'll get the shot that was captured for maybe like your baseline data. And then it shows as you adjust the weather, you can adjust the altitude, the wind speed and direction, the temperature, the humidity, and then you can see how it affects the ball flight and then some of the data too. So like carry distances, ⁓ you know, even like clubhead speed can be affected by some of that stuff. So It it is cool to be able to get both your baseline data and what your data will be affected like ⁓ all on the same screen and you can change it as you go, which is really cool. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ all right. I mean, ⁓ you know, I don't think we're breaking any news here when we say that the ⁓ that the Mevo Gen two is a great product. ⁓ I think anybody searching around the internet would probably come to that consensus conclusion. ⁓ I don't know that there's a lot of dissenters out there talking about it being ⁓ a poor product. And just as Daniel said, ⁓ this is one of those products that as soon as it hit the market, it was working rock solid. ⁓ And so ⁓ you know, there's tons of reasons to to like it in a vacuum. But what really we want to get into is is it, is it priced correctly and is it a good option relative to the competition. So a reminder that it is a $1,300 device. We just walked through the add-on options that you have available to you. You do get out of the box those eight E6 Connect golf courses, all real golf courses we should note, not fictional. Actually all name brand ⁓ destination courses even. ⁓ And there's no subscription. ⁓ So ⁓ again, as I hope we've highlighted adequately ⁓ the amount of data that you get, the amount of analysis ⁓ options that you get, and the accuracy capture rate, so on and so forth of that data ⁓ is outstanding. ⁓ so it looks certainly like it's a good, a good buy or a good option, but let's take a look at some of what else is out there because there are other good choices. ⁓ some of them that come to mind are things like the Skytrack Plus and ST Max. ⁓ the Rap Soto ML MLM two pro, ⁓ the Bushnell Launch Pro, and then one that you touched on, Daniel, the Square Omni. let's start wading through some of that. ⁓ we certainly don't need to go into full blown ⁓ detail analysis on each of these comparisons, ⁓ but let's hit a couple of the high points and talk through some of that. Anything jumped to mind initially to you, Daniel? Yeah, I think the first thing that jumps to mind ⁓ is Square Omni right now. ⁓ obviously because it's it's such a new product and it's really the only product in that lineup that offers pretty much all the same data. ⁓ now Pro Package has quite a few more pieces to it, but when we're talking the guts of it, like face impact location and ⁓ club path and face to path and and things like that. The probably the metrics that like ninety percent of golfers are wanting when they buy a device like this right now. That's probably a direct comparison. and the difference obviously is one's a photometric system and one is a radar system. So ⁓ you know, it's it's very, very close as far as as data goes that people probably want. it probably comes down to space requirements or space capabilities with each customer when you're going through that comparison. And y kind of what they really want out of the device. ⁓ you know, the one thing that that Flightscope probably has that's better, I think, than probably anybody in that list is is the support system. They do have really good technical support. ⁓ but overall it's, you know, it it's it's a direct comparison of a camera system versus a radar system. So it's it's probably gonna be where are you going to use it, what do you want to use it for? And and that might be a case by case winner between, you know, who's who's trying to compare those two. Yeah, I agree. you know, as we noted earlier, these are the only two devices ⁓ under 10 grand that give you that face impact location. So the Omni is very attractive at sixteen sixteen hundred dollars. And in fact, you know, when we look at the Omni, to be fair, sixteen hundred dollars, also no subscription, ⁓ that's less money than a fully unlocked Pro Package and Face Impact added ⁓ Mibo Gen 2. And so on the surface, you look at the Omni and think, potentially a better deal. It's a it's a four camera photometric unit. Certainly allows you that space saving opportunity. But I think you hit on a real key point. ⁓ Flightscope is a brand that when you when you call the telephone number, you get somebody that picks up the phone. When you send in a help desk help desk ticket, ⁓ you get a response. ⁓ and you know, not to throw too much shade at Square here, but that is not their reputation. And so ⁓ I think that's a big kind of thing for s for a consumer to consider is do they envision themselves ⁓ potentially having ⁓ issues they'd like to discuss or need answered? ⁓ or do they think that they're going to be a ⁓ set it and forget it ⁓ type of consumer. so those are things to consider. Of course, as you said, the photometric versus radar is is a biggie ⁓ because it it really comes down to, you know, ⁓ are you using this device indoors? Do you have righties and lefties to consider sharing space with, ⁓ so on and so forth? And that kind of helps you answer which one might be more appropriate ⁓ for you. maybe another one that jumps to mind is the the Launch Pro. ⁓ that's a classic comparison, comparing the Bushnell Launch Pro to previously the Flight Scope ⁓ Mevo Plus and now and now the Gen two. Any thoughts there? Yeah, ⁓ I mean they've Bushnell Launch Pro and and Mevo Gen 2, ⁓ even back to Mevo Plus, these two companies have been competing with each other for for a few years now. And both ⁓ both very pretty solidly accurate devices. I always personally thought that like Bushnell Launch Pro, I always thought that that device could probably be capable of more data, but it was probably kind of held the reins back on a little bit just to to keep some ammunition towards like G C quad and things like that. ⁓ But I always felt that when you compare apples to apples, like if you want something that gives you a lot of data, the the Flightscope device is gonna is gonna blow it out of the water. ⁓ you know, the the Bushnell Launch Pro is probably the most accurate indoor device that's out there under 10 grand, ⁓ because it is the same as a GC three. But it it lacks a lot of data. I mean, honestly, it's very little data that you get on the device ⁓ in comparison. I mean, they they don't even have major club data. It does have club. path, but there's not a whole lot of additional club data you get with the device. ⁓ you know again it's great for a golf simulator. ⁓ it's not great if you want to play GS Pro because you're gonna pay a huge annual subscription fee ⁓ just to get into GS Pro. ⁓ so there there's definitely some pros and cons on each side. but again it it it probably it probably comes down to what you want to use it for. And, you know, if it's something that you want to say, hey, I want a bunch of data with easy GS Pro access and I've got the space, it's really hard to pick to pick the Bushnell over over Mevo Gen 2, honestly. Again, it's it's photometric versus radar. So right. Yep. I think the, you know, I think you nailed it. The the the Launch Pro has the advantage of the photometric. ⁓ the the Gen two definitely has the advantage in terms of data. ⁓ W you know, first of all, the out-of-the-box data with the Gen 2 is better than it is with the Launch Pro. And then with the Gen 2, when you do want to add all of the extensive club data, for one thing, it gets more extensive than it does with the with the Launch Pro. But it's a one time ⁓ it's a one-time pay. Whereas if you want to unlock the club data with the Launch Pro, you're paying 500 bucks a year, year after year after year. And ⁓ well, that can, you know, that that can add up quite quickly. ⁓ and so ⁓ again, just as you said, probably comes down to how you're gonna use it, what kind of space you have. ⁓ but you know, ⁓ the launch pro probably a slightly simpler to set up than the gen two. ⁓ but there's a lot of reasons to like the gen two at first blush. ⁓ yeah, plus ⁓ Plus the LaunchPro is gonna require you to get a gaming PC just ⁓ to be able to play the simulated courses that you get with your subscription, where Gen two you can jump on with an iPad. You can use your cell phone, honestly, if you really wanted to. So ⁓ there there's more setup requirement just ⁓ to get into it, ⁓ which does hit the pocketbook a little bit more if you don't have that gaming PC to run the software. Great point. Sounds like you may have worked for Flight Scope at one point. I've ran that sales pitch a few times. Yeah. Yeah. Well it's a it's a strong one. Actually I hadn't thought of that or hadn't remembered that point, but it but that's a very, very good, valid point. ⁓ you know, again, j you know, back to strengths of the launch pro. The FSFS Play software that you get if you pay the subscription is outstanding. ⁓ but just as you say, ⁓ that's not something that you're going to be able to use on a mobile device. ⁓ and So kind of compatibility and flexibility, versatility, ⁓ may very well be better strengths with the Flightscope Mevo Gen two. ⁓ thoughts that come to mind with the Sky Track family, the ⁓ the S T plus or the S T Max. Yeah, so that that is gonna be a lot of of similarities. ⁓ you know, the Skytrack devices don't have angle of attack and that always seems to be like kind of a thorn in their side that everyone's just kinda like, Why can't we get angle of attack? ⁓ But the no club stickers to get the club data they do offer. I think that's a direct comparison similarity. ⁓ Skytrack does have an advantage that you don't have to use a specific golf ball, ⁓ which I think is rare. now with Flight Scope, you don't have to use a specific ball, but if you're indoors into a net or into a hitting screen, you do need like an RCT ball or even ⁓ like a metallic sticker on the golf ball, like I see here. ⁓ Just to get measured spin rate, you do need one of those one or two one of those two options. ⁓ so I think there's an advantage there for SkyTrack. ⁓ I do think that the software ⁓ is a little bit better on Sky Track just for the drills and and software enhancements that they have, but you're paying a yearly subscription for it. Mm-hmm. ⁓ so if you're a no subscription person, then the Sky Track probably isn't for you at all because if you want to get the most out of it, you're you're gonna be probably ponying up for 300 bucks a year to get your subscription out of it. that's just kind of my my biggest takeaway from it. I do think they're both great consumer options. Again, gonna can gonna have to consider your space and see which one fits your space best. ⁓ but they are honestly probably two of the most distinct competitors in this listing. ⁓ just because they've probably had the most history in the consumer market versus all these other products. So they certainly have the longevity to kind of jockey for position here. ⁓ but overall, again, just like everything we've discussed, the the Gen two has more data capabilities. So if you're a data head or a data nerd, you're you're gonna be gravitating towards that gen two still. Right. I I think you nailed it there. ⁓ I look at the the data head as you call them is is for sure going to appreciate the software of the Gen 2, the the the FS the Flight Scope golf app more than the Skytrack ⁓ software. But just as you said, the Skytrack software is a little more entertaining. It's a little bit more ⁓ potentially intuitive and probably ⁓ well, it's more gamified and then it includes all of those various challenges and ⁓ in kind of practice ranges that that make it make it a lot of fun to use, honestly. It also has the big advantage of ⁓ of the Mac compatibility. ⁓ So those are reasons to to like the Skytrack. Very good reasons to like the SkyTrack. Last comparison is to the Rhapsoto MLM2 Pro. We did a deep dive on this product recently. So encourage everybody to check that episode out. And I think at the end of it, we were satisfied that in the under $1,000 category, the MLM2 Pro might be the king. But we also identified that, you know, it's questionable whether you can really, really define it as under $1,000 because in reality, ⁓ to get all of the good stuff that it delivers, you do have to pay a subscription. now you have an option to unlock it for life for a six hundred dollar ⁓ price. ⁓ but that in effect doubles the price of what you initially paid for the MLM two pro. So all of a sudden the device becomes a twelve hundred dollar device, which magically puts it directly in line with the Mevo Gen two. ⁓ so talk through kind of how you see that comparison. Yeah. So both ⁓ both devices are using radar and camera you know, capabilities there for for capturing the data. ⁓ You know, very similar devices. They they both have the same type of space requirements. They look very different from each other, ⁓ but they they do function very similarly. ⁓ the MLM2 Pro has has been very successful ⁓ and it's been very popular, but the one thing it really, really lacks if you're if you're into it, is the ability to capture putting when you're playing rounds of golf. ⁓ the Gen 2 captures putting. So If that's something that's important to you, that might be the reason alone just to make that step up and purchase it. Now, you might look at Gen 2 the same way people look at MLM two pro and we say, ⁓ that's the best under a thousand, but is it really because you have to buy, you know, the subscription or the lifetime add on? You could say the same thing with Mevo Gen two. Yeah, it's great, but you have to have the add ons which push the price quite a bit up. So ⁓ it obviously comes down to your available budget in this comparison. ⁓ But I actually think that overall, ⁓ you know, MLM two pro actually has a lot of really impressive stuff within their software. ⁓ Flightscope is probably better for for somebody who really wants to get better at golf, whereas MLM two pro is probably something that's more of a simulation ⁓ you know, probably capable device. And overall, you know, having that requirement for RPT golf balls to get data measurement even on the range. could be a huge glaring problem for some people because you Gen 2, you take it out to the range, you just hit range balls and you can even select, hey, I have range balls and it will normalize the data to is if you hit a premium level golf ball. Right. So there are certain features that are there on Flightscope Gen two, which are honestly method for why the price is higher. And I would agree with why they're there and and that it's actually useful and that I would pay the extra money for the Gen 2 if I was buying one. ⁓ But even just the basic data set, like we said, that comes with it, and then you're kind of at the same price. Like we said, that that's enough data for for almost every golfer to get started with a launch monitor. So two really good products. I I think they they really do compete a lot with each other, but there's some glaring advantages that the Gen 2 kind of justifies the added cost and and really kind of stands out when you compare them side by side. I like that you brought up that ⁓ that range ball normalizer feature because I think it's a sneaky one and one that people maybe kind of forget about or or overlook, but that's a big deal. I mean the you know, our range distances ⁓ and our on course distances are and and all of the all of the ball characteristics are are in fact different because we're playing a different golf ball. ⁓ what feature, if it's that one or or any other one with the Gen two do you consider the most notable or the most competitive or or really the standout that separates it maybe puts it ahead of some of the competition. Yeah. And you know what? This is probably something that we I actually did kind of g ⁓ say it earlier, but it's might be something you might not even thought of. And it's something when I talk to customers and say it, it's honestly like boom, okay, I want that. It's the ability to add as many profiles and players that you want inside the inside the system. And they can keep that data and take it home with them. Well, you might say that's only important for a golf instructor because he can, you know, give that data to their to his students. It's actually not because if you had if you're buying a product and you have a couple kids or you have friends that come over, all you need is an email to create a profile for each of them in the FS golf software. And they can access that on the cloud at any time they want to. So that alone is so powerful, I think, because there's many. many other systems that this competes with ⁓ that you get one profile and some of those you are paying a subscription and you only get that one profile and that's the only data that you can keep. So I think that's a huge deal. You can even take swing videos and upload them to the profile for it and they'll store the videos on there for you. And that's no additional cost stuff too. So I really think that that's really powerful just so that way you maybe you're a a dad who has kids or you and your wife or whatever. ⁓ you can all store your data separately and see how you progress over time, which I think is really powerful. That's an awesome point. Glad you brought that up. ⁓ Daniel, who should buy it and who should skip it? The Gen 2. Yeah, honestly, I think serious golfers definitely buy. I think if you're a person who's just gonna use this indoors as a golf simulator, there there might be some better options out there. ⁓ I think if you're considering it for that, that you definitely contact an expert like us at Play Better and talk through your space. ⁓ one thing that's different about radar products than any other product out there is that they're very sensitive to their environment. ⁓ not just the space, but the makeup of materials in the room that's around you. ⁓ it's something that we can dissect, especially ⁓ on radar products, because I have great expertise in that. ⁓ we we can basically dissect the room and tell you, hey, that it's gonna work fine, or this is not the type of product you should use there. So you know, I think that like I said, a a serious level golfer that wants something for the driving range, it's a knockout of the park. ⁓ if it if you want to use it for some simulation or or a or a budget sim that doesn't have any type of annual fees and you've got the space for it, it's a knockout of the park. ⁓ so again, I think that we're just hitting different levels of golfers. If you're a golf professional, it's a knockout of the park. It's there there's so many people that can buy this device and get accurate data and use out of it. ⁓ there's very few that can't, to be honest with you. That's great. That's a that's a great takeaway. ⁓ my own kind of first blush reaction is that ⁓ I think that Anybody very, very serious about data, somebody that likes to ⁓ study the numbers, somebody that wants to compile them, ⁓ somebody that is interested in all of that ⁓ that D plane information, which is so, so ⁓ enlightening in terms of what it tells you about what your club is doing through impact and and in your swing. ⁓ it's unmatched. It's unmatched for this price. It is the best option in this price range. Personally, I think that if you are a simpler type of user, if you are somebody that does not want to dive into all of that deep dive ⁓ and go go into ⁓ in-depth and in all of that kind of data, if potentially that kind of stuff maybe feels overwhelming or even intimidating, ⁓ honestly, I think you should stay away. I think there are options that are going to feel a little bit more ⁓ friendly, a little simpler to use, ⁓ and potentially a little bit more enjoyable. So To me, that's who I would advise potentially look at something else. ⁓ but man, just as you said, if you're somebody that's serious about improving or you really want to start to learn what all of these numbers mean about your about your your golf game and and how they can help you to to improve, ⁓ whether that's from the player perspective, the fitter perspective, the instructor perspective, ⁓ you're gonna have to spend a lot more money to get the quality. ⁓ if you wanna go with something other than the Gen 2. ⁓ So again, if you're somebody that wants a built-in screen, this is a drawback. You know, the Gen 2 doesn't have that. And that is a factor when we talk in terms of you know using it at the range. ⁓ you and I have both encountered this on numerous occasions. It can be quite frustrating when you're testing these launch monitors that don't have a built-in display. When you're relying on your phone or a tablet, ⁓ those things notoriously overheat on the driving range. It doesn't even have to be that hot of a day when they're sitting in direct sunlight. That happens. And that is a real kind of use case that I encounter somewhat frequently, ⁓ kind of a regular frustration. So another thing to consider, you know, where are you using this thing? How are you using it? ⁓ in what kind of environment are you using it? ⁓ or are you the type that just wants to plop it down and be able to get ⁓ quick data with quick reactions right on an onboard display and not have to interforce with an interface with another device, well then this isn't the product for you. ⁓ there are there are you know better choices in the in the competing options. ⁓ but gosh, I think what we've identified, Daniel, is that while it might not be right for everyone, and we haven't really gone into, you know, all of the options that exist if you want to spend a whole lot more money, ⁓ because you can get a whole lot more if you if you climb the ladder that much further. But you know, sticking around this Price range of what kind of comes in at a total price of in that $3,000 range. this is probably the best option for the largest cross section of users. That again does not mean that that's the right option for each individual user, but do you think that's a fair summary? Yeah, totally. I totally agree with that. And honestly, their their ecosystem and roots are prepared. to assist customers, I think like kind of like nobody else in the industry. So ⁓ I think that they they really help customers that say, ⁓ I might be overwhelmed, but I really want this product. They have the ecosystem there to assist you and make sure that that you're gonna get the most out of this product. And I think that speaks volumes. All right, great points. ⁓ real luxury to have ⁓ you on hand, Daniel. Really appreciate you you sharing ⁓ everything. You've you've lived with this product for quite a long time, really since ⁓ since before it was even born. So ⁓ it's a a a treat to to have you share all of that with us. ⁓ hope everybody out there got some value out of this. ⁓ if you did, ⁓ please do like, subscribe ⁓ to the channel. We certainly do appreciate that support. We also would love to hear from you. ⁓ maybe you've You've used the Gen 2, maybe you've used some of the competing options, maybe you have thoughts of your own, things that maybe you feel we got right or wrong, ⁓ please comment. Let us know. ⁓ let us know other things that you'd like us to ⁓ to study and and ⁓ and demonstrate for you in future episodes. ⁓ and again, thank you so, so much for watching, listening, and for all of your support. ⁓ a final reminder to use promo code GTW for exclusive savings on qualified products.
