- 0:02Well, welcome in to this exciting episode of Get Better Together.
- 0:05I am your host, Bubba Starts, and with me today is my new cohost, Jamie Gilcrease.
- 0:09Jamie, welcome back to the show.
- 0:12Yeah.
- 0:13Hey, Bubba.
- 0:14Well, we had so much fun when we had you on as a guest a few weeks ago, and I thought it would
- 0:19be fun to explore at least doing a few episodes with you, as just a cohost where we get into
- 0:26more of a back and forth kind of conversation rather than just kinda digging into your shit.
- 0:31Right.
- 0:32I like that.
- 0:33We can dig into mine too.
- 0:36So for for people that maybe haven't, haven't seen your your episode with us before, why
- 0:44don't you give us a just a short backstory on you and, you know, obviously, businesses and
- 0:49everything.
- 0:50And then what kind of brought us together?
- 0:52Yeah.
- 0:53Absolutely.
- 0:54I own a coffee house up in Leeds, South Dakota and, met some amazing humans through that.
- 1:00I've met you maybe a few times.
- 1:02I've heard of from you.
- 1:04And then, yeah, I own a coaching business and, have some real estate, and I'm a mom of three
- 1:11beautiful young daughters.
- 1:13And, yeah, that's kind of
- 1:15who I am.
- 1:17Well and you have a keen interest in helping people.
- 1:20Right?
- 1:20Yeah.
- 1:20That's what really brought us together is that with your coaching and consulting, and your
- 1:26affiliation with, oh, what's the name of the organization again?
- 1:31Which one?
- 1:32The Lotus Vision?
- 1:33Well, Lotus Vision is yours, but with the pathways.
- 1:38Pathways.
- 1:39Shit, bubba.
- 1:40Maybe I'm not saying it right.
- 1:42Oh, like, path of love?
- 1:45Path of love.
- 1:46Thank you.
- 1:46Yes.
- 1:47Yep.
- 1:48Yeah.
- 1:48Awakening of love.
- 1:49I've done a lot of different things.
- 1:50So I'm like, what?
- 1:51What what?
- 1:51Yeah.
- 1:52And I think community.
- 1:53Right?
- 1:54That's a big connection for you and I is community.
- 1:57Right.
- 1:57Well and and it's definitely that, you know, the wanting to not just better ourselves, but
- 2:03to help other people be better, is obviously what what drew us together, now in the Get
- 2:10Better Together project.
- 2:12Right?
- 2:12It is it's finding a way to even beyond just a podcast to find ways to bring this to a live
- 2:19setting with, you know, conferences or or seminars or whatever you'd like to call them.
- 2:24I think that's a passion for both of to to do that.
- 2:29You are officially a podcaster now as you just finished up shooting your first episode and,
- 2:37you know, getting on camera and talking.
- 2:39Tell us about the process.
- 2:41I mean, it's still fresh in your mind.
- 2:42I can still see that glow about you right now of having finished it.
- 2:46So tell us about kind of how it came about, who your first guest was, and, how it's changed
- 2:52your life already.
- 2:54Yeah.
- 2:54Already.
- 2:55So I think I reached out to you and said, hey, Bubba.
- 2:58Like, I'm really interested.
- 2:59I want to share stories that matter.
- 3:01Right?
- 3:01And I have conversations.
- 3:03And yesterday, you gave me some homework.
- 3:05You know?
- 3:05You said, why don't you just do it?
- 3:07And so actually, last week when we talked, I got all the equipment, and I asked the right
- 3:13people and was able to get the ring lights and different things.
- 3:17And I asked Tracy Iceland, our island, you know, to come on.
- 3:22She's actually a partner in a business that I've got going on here in Spearfish.
- 3:26And I said, hey, Tracy.
- 3:28We just did a ribbon cutting.
- 3:29Would you come and have a video with me?
- 3:31Live video.
- 3:31Let's just do it.
- 3:32And she's like, yeah.
- 3:33Absolutely.
- 3:34So we set it up, and we just started having conversations around what it is that we're
- 3:39doing here, why we're doing it, and it flowed so beautifully.
- 3:43Like, it was not it didn't feel hard, and I felt like we had conversations that matter.
- 3:49You know?
- 3:50What we're doing.
- 3:51And that's what most people don't realize about what a podcast is, is it's just a conversation.
- 3:56It's just talking, but it's it's kind of ditching the the mentality of, like, oh,
- 4:05somebody's going to be listening to this, and I have to be something other than just myself.
- 4:12And I think that's probably what trips a lot of people up is you're looking at what we've been
- 4:18fed with broadcast television or radio or something like that, and you're thinking that
- 4:22you have to fit into, like, this crazy box and to have the radio voice, which, you know, I was
- 4:28blessed with, also a face for radio too, but that you have to have, like, some special
- 4:35skills to to be a podcaster.
- 4:37And it's like, no.
- 4:38You just have to know how to talk.
- 4:39Are can you be interesting for fifteen to twenty minutes with another human being?
- 4:44And really, that's all it is.
- 4:46So I was I was so proud, to watch you today on the live and to see it just kind of blossoming
- 4:53right in front of our eyes was was a really cool process and a really cool moment for me,
- 5:00especially because this is the future of my business.
- 5:04Right?
- 5:04It's it's training other people and is giving people that confidence to step out and to start
- 5:10having conversations that matter of their own.
- 5:13Right?
- 5:13I'm a 50 episodes in.
- 5:15I know.
- 5:16I know what it's done for me.
- 5:18Right?
- 5:19And and I wanna share that with you, but not just by having a conversation with me.
- 5:24Go have conversations with people that you find interesting.
- 5:27And that could be within your circle or that could be out in the wide world, and and that's
- 5:33it was really cool to see that first block in motion.
- 5:37Oh my god.
- 5:37We got somebody off the sidelines and into the game today.
- 5:40Like, I was just thrilled.
- 5:42Oh my gosh.
- 5:43I'm so grateful because, again, like, I knew that it's supposed to be happening.
- 5:48I could feel it.
- 5:49Right?
- 5:49And then you were you were sharing things about what you're doing, and you're just becoming
- 5:53this lighthouse for me and probably so many others.
- 5:56And was like, oh my gosh.
- 5:58I I gotta talk to him.
- 6:00You know?
- 6:00And you're like, just start.
- 6:02You know?
- 6:02We tied the conversation around how we learn how to walk.
- 6:06Right?
- 6:06We don't just learn how to walk.
- 6:08And I just had to put down the perfect down.
- 6:11Right?
- 6:11This this sense of I needed to be perfect.
- 6:13I'm like, wait.
- 6:14I know I don't have to be perfect.
- 6:16And so yeah.
- 6:17I mean, I'm having these conversations anyways.
- 6:20And like I said with Tracy, I said, oh my gosh.
- 6:24You know?
- 6:25How many times have we had the conversation that we should have recorded this?
- 6:29And I think that came out in one of our conversations too that you had felt that way.
- 6:34Right?
- 6:34Well, yeah, even yesterday's conversation where it's like, now we should have probably recorded
- 6:39that, but that's okay.
- 6:40That's okay.
- 6:41There were some great gems, and I don't even have my notebook.
- 6:43I always have my notebook.
- 6:45I just had to I just had to write down put down the perfect.
- 6:49I don't know if that's a new show or it's just our new motto, that's what it takes.
- 6:54And because of my experience as a live performer, right, I've never put pressure on
- 7:01myself to be perfect.
- 7:03You're gonna get what you're gonna get.
- 7:04Right?
- 7:05So it kind of gave me that unnatural, confidence and that advantage in this world to
- 7:10go, who cares if it's on tape?
- 7:12Right?
- 7:12Like, probably nobody's listening.
- 7:15And if you're talking for an hour, most people aren't listening to the whole thing anyway.
- 7:18They might catch a clip on on your social media with a reel or something like that that draws
- 7:24them into your world.
- 7:25But, yeah, if you're gonna I mean, your life isn't perfect.
- 7:29Right?
- 7:29But you wake up every day and you step out there into the world and you don't let your not
- 7:34perfect life affect you from taking the next breath.
- 7:38So why would you let it stop you from doing this?
- 7:41And, yeah, it was it was such a cool part of our evolution as a company, as people, as what
- 7:50you know, the evolution of what we're going to do together for our future.
- 7:55This was a huge first step to that today, and I was really glad that I caught it live, got to
- 8:01be in the comment section, and throw some flowers your way.
- 8:04And I just I'm so darn proud of you, Jamie.
- 8:07You really grabbed it by the horns.
- 8:09Thank you so much, Robert.
- 8:11I just like, again, like, yesterday saying, like, thank you for being a lighthouse for
- 8:15people because, again, I was for so many years, I've wanted to do this, you know, and and just
- 8:21have these conversations because I love having conversations with people, and I love gaining
- 8:26these these pieces and nuggets from people because everyone around me is just so
- 8:31incredible, like, really incredible.
- 8:34They've all lived these amazing lives.
- 8:35And when you get curious about humans, oh my gosh.
- 8:39You know what I mean?
- 8:40They just they they just amaze me.
- 8:43Every day, I'm amazed by somebody.
- 8:46You know?
- 8:46I'm learning all the time.
- 8:48And yet you you don't know what made someone who they are today.
- 8:54Right?
- 8:54Like, you're inspired by the man I am now, but how cool to go back in time with a conversation
- 9:01and go, what what made you this lighthouse?
- 9:05How did you how did you come to this?
- 9:07And then to have that conversation with, you know, that you're never gonna run out of people
- 9:10to talk to.
- 9:11Right?
- 9:12Like, there's 8,000,000,000 people on the plane.
- 9:14You know?
- 9:15Like, you're never gonna talk to all of them, so you're never gonna run out of conversations
- 9:19to have.
- 9:20You're never gonna run out of people to be inspired by.
- 9:23And that's what really, that's what's really unlocked this whole thing for me and why I set
- 9:30out with this, you know, start a million podcasters on their journey goal is because
- 9:36that you you have to set some outrageous number.
- 9:39Because if you set it too low, that it's very achievable.
- 9:43Right?
- 9:43You know, we could start nine podcasters a day or more.
- 9:47Right?
- 9:47And that's where this thing like, right now, we have one.
- 9:51Right?
- 9:51We got Jamie off the bench, and she's out there now, and she and she's doing something.
- 9:58You know, to get 10,000 of that in the digital era, it it isn't as hard as it seems like.
- 10:04Right?
- 10:05With the ability to do webinars and to share knowledge digitally, you know, even even a
- 10:13hundred thousand podcasters seemed like a low number to me.
- 10:16And maybe I'm crazy.
- 10:18Maybe that's all it is.
- 10:19Right?
- 10:19And I just like throwing big numbers out there because I wanna chase this for the rest of my
- 10:24life.
- 10:25Right?
- 10:25Right.
- 10:26And I just can't imagine anything being better for myself.
- 10:33I've learned so much about me, right, through having conversations with other people and
- 10:38relating to other people and having relationship, right, with other people that,
- 10:44you know, present company included, that I can't imagine stopping doing what I'm doing.
- 10:49I know I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of teaching other people how to do this and then watching
- 10:54their lives changed.
- 10:56Right.
- 10:57Absolutely.
- 10:58And I think that that is such a key point that you just made, you know, and and we don't know
- 11:02who we're gonna impact, but we know we're gonna have some impact.
- 11:06And it's like, you know, taking taking myself out of the box, I think, was really huge and
- 11:13just saying, now what?
- 11:15Right?
- 11:15Now what?
- 11:17You know?
- 11:18All of this is in front of me, and, you know, my hair is a little crazy today because, you
- 11:23know, I always do it straight.
- 11:24I don't know if you know that, but I'm always straightening my hair because it's so curly,
- 11:28and it's so crazy.
- 11:30Oh, you gotta let those curls go, sweetie.
- 11:33I know.
- 11:34I know.
- 11:34I said my hair is gonna enter the room before I do today.
- 11:37Like, that's just what's gonna happen.
- 11:39You know?
- 11:40But it was like, okay.
- 11:41I don't have to be perfect today.
- 11:42Like, I don't.
- 11:43And and that is really important.
- 11:45You know?
- 11:45Because we don't other people are like, oh my gosh.
- 11:48Your hair is so beautiful.
- 11:49I'm like, oh god.
- 11:50You know, it's so frizzy or whatever.
- 11:53And something so simple.
- 11:55Right?
- 11:56But I was like, I am not letting this stop me.
- 11:58I'm not letting it stop me.
- 11:59I'm just gonna go with it, and we're doing it.
- 12:03So that's all.
- 12:04And and oh, well, you're welcome.
- 12:06No.
- 12:06Thank you.
- 12:07You you've completely made my day by just, you know, taking the reins.
- 12:12Taking the reins of your own life.
- 12:14And for you, your podcast and what you end up doing are going to be so valuable because it
- 12:20puts you in front of people every day.
- 12:22It's gonna put you out in front of a wider audience than you could ever reach through your
- 12:26social media.
- 12:27It's gonna get out there.
- 12:29You know, once you start talking about, you know, our next level is that we are growing as
- 12:34a network.
- 12:35Right?
- 12:35And I'm learning all of the things behind the scenes of how you bring in the massive
- 12:40viewership.
- 12:41Right?
- 12:42There's tricks to this thing.
- 12:43There there's ways that you can do this.
- 12:46And and because I was you know, I had a pretty good leg up with the production side of
- 12:51podcasting from my years as a musician and just being in that world of recording and editing
- 12:58and and producing and broadcasting that now I can focus more attention on how do you make it
- 13:07big.
- 13:07Right?
- 13:08How do you, you know, how do you find the support, you know, financially for these things
- 13:12through sponsors, affiliates, or whatever?
- 13:15So I'm doing a lot of homework every day too, Jamie.
- 13:17It's not just you.
- 13:20Yeah.
- 13:20But I think better together.
- 13:22Right?
- 13:22I mean, that, like, that name alone is, like, we are stronger together.
- 13:27Like, community.
- 13:28Right?
- 13:28We look at community, and when we are connecting and bringing in, that's that program
- 13:33I've got going on, that superstars program, right, that I can't wait to share with the
- 13:37world.
- 13:38Which I just love too.
- 13:39I we're gonna have to talk about that.
- 13:41Put a pin in that because I wanna talk about that today.
- 13:45Yeah.
- 13:45For sure.
- 13:46So it's just we are stronger together.
- 13:50Right?
- 13:50And democracy at its finest is what came up for me.
- 13:54You know, we give it back to the people and have those conversations and and move mountains
- 13:59because people are incredible.
- 14:00This whole world has been made up.
- 14:02So go create your booty off.
- 14:04You know?
- 14:05Right.
- 14:06And no time like the present to do it as the veil is coming off the matrix that we've been
- 14:12born and and bred in.
- 14:13Right?
- 14:15Right.
- 14:15Especially, you know, not to get overly political, but to see how much money of our
- 14:21money, of our tax money was going back to feed into a propaganda machine to tell us how to
- 14:27live our lives.
- 14:28Right?
- 14:28So if you're you know, I'm I'm 38.
- 14:30I'll be 39 this year.
- 14:31I know you're a few years older, but now we're same generation, I would say.
- 14:35Right?
- 14:35And our entire lives have been controlled by a very, very few people.
- 14:40Everything that we have watched growing up that we have been taught in our schools, that we
- 14:45have had fed to us, that people like us go, this is a wreck.
- 14:50That's not what life is.
- 14:51That's not what it's like.
- 14:53Nothing.
- 14:54Right.
- 14:54It it just it it never made sense to me.
- 14:57It never made sense to me.
- 14:58And maybe I read Kerouac too early in life, and that kind of, you know, sparked that.
- 15:03It definitely set me on the path to the West Coast, but it it was living in a mostly
- 15:10disconnected life.
- 15:11And that's probably that time.
- 15:13Right?
- 15:13As a teenager, I don't I didn't spend a lot of time in front of a TV.
- 15:17You know, after that, I was just out in the world.
- 15:19I mean, I was experiencing homelessness and drug addiction.
- 15:22I wasn't watching ABC and tuning into The Bachelor.
- 15:27Right?
- 15:27So that wasn't even a that world was never real to me.
- 15:32And my world was with broken people, to put it bluntly, and just like myself.
- 15:39I mean, I myself was very, very broken.
- 15:42I'm I'm starting to mend and heal those pieces, and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to having
- 15:48this show to do it.
- 15:51Whether it's just me talking with a cohost or it's having a guest on, which you have been or
- 15:56or one of our other guests, sharing my life story with people and having them share their
- 16:02story with me is changing me.
- 16:04It it is affecting me on a DNA level where every single code that gets fed to me unlocks
- 16:13something new, and now we get to share that with the world is just what a what a time to be
- 16:19alive.
- 16:20Oh my gosh.
- 16:21Amen.
- 16:22Amen, brother.
- 16:23Amen.
- 16:23Like, I I feel that because through story, through our story, what would what if what were
- 16:28we talking about yesterday?
- 16:29When it was like, we are living bible.
- 16:31Right?
- 16:32And I I don't know a lot about the bible.
- 16:33I mean, I know some.
- 16:35I've studied a little bit on my own.
- 16:37I'm not really into organized religion, but what it is is it's like we are living what was
- 16:43it you called it?
- 16:43The parables.
- 16:44Right?
- 16:44So Yep.
- 16:45We're we're stepping in to these and sharing our stories to help others, and that's exactly
- 16:51what the Bible to me is.
- 16:53Right?
- 16:54And I don't like I said, I don't even know the Bible.
- 16:56But it's like, we're sharing these stories.
- 16:59We're connecting, and I'm like, oh, I feel that too.
- 17:02Oh, I've been through something like that.
- 17:04Right?
- 17:05And and that's why when, you know, the disciples and followers of Jesus early, you
- 17:11know, while he's alive are asking him, why do you speak in parables?
- 17:14It and and part of it is because if I just told you the truth with no context and with no human
- 17:20connection, you wouldn't get it.
- 17:23You you wouldn't get it.
- 17:24And not that I'm, like, trying to speak for Jesus here or anything, but but that's why we
- 17:30have the parables.
- 17:31That's why it was told in that way because we understand thing in stories.
- 17:36That's why the movie industry is as big as it is.
- 17:38That's why all of these things will grew to that level because that's how on a human level
- 17:43we absorb information.
- 17:45That's how it gets through to us.
- 17:47And now with with podcasts, we are sharing that story one to one.
- 17:53It is no longer we're watching a a a program, and they're called programs for a reason.
- 17:59Right?
- 18:00We're not being fed that from someone else.
- 18:02We are able to share that one to one with people that we respect and people that we have
- 18:09a connection with.
- 18:10That's what this is about.
- 18:11That's like it is that's what a podcast is.
- 18:14And and I hope that through us continuing to share our stories that it catches on, that it
- 18:21just keeps growing.
- 18:22And and that's why I say today was such a big moment because my life being changed by
- 18:26podcasting has now affected your life, and you are taking the reins of that now.
- 18:32And how many lives are you going to change through this?
- 18:36And, it's just it was a really cool moment.
- 18:39It's probably like watching the the first cellular division, right, of a newborn, you
- 18:45know, at conception and then watching that because now we're gonna start multiplying.
- 18:50Right?
- 18:50Now it's really gonna start taking off as people see Jamie.
- 18:55Oh, well, where'd Jamie learn to do that?
- 18:56Oh, well, she learned it from Bubba.
- 18:58Oh, okay.
- 18:58Well, I'm gonna go ask Bubba if he could help me.
- 19:00And now we start growing, and eventually, you know, we talked about it yesterday, but a year
- 19:05from now, we're probably not the teachers at all where we've taught other people how to be
- 19:11lighthouses themselves, and now they are out there and building an army of lighthouses.
- 19:16And how how bright will that light be when you have a million of them lined up end to end
- 19:23throughout the whole world?
- 19:24I mean, it just
- 19:25Barbara, it's like a forest fire.
- 19:27Right?
- 19:28It's like a forest fire, and it's like once it goes and and then it just just lights up and
- 19:33all these beautiful humans are talking and and exchanging stories and being real and
- 19:38authentic.
- 19:39And I gotta do that with Tracy sitting in my office here.
- 19:42And it was just incredible.
- 19:44And, you know, we connected and hopefully somebody else was moved by that.
- 19:48I mean, moved you seeing
- 19:50me, like, stepping into this space.
- 19:52Yeah.
- 19:52There were six people tuning in live that you that you affected.
- 19:55Friends of yours.
- 19:56Tracy, I'm sure, was affected by it where she's like, man, I could I could do that again.
- 20:00Right?
- 20:01And whether it's with you or whether it's with her, I know Tracy.
- 20:04Right?
- 20:04Like, she's got a massive network of people that she could talk to that could share
- 20:08infinite wisdom.
- 20:10So it was really awesome to just to witness it.
- 20:14Right?
- 20:14To be here as not the person involved in it this time, but to watch like I said, it's like
- 20:20watching my kid play ball, and and you hit a single today.
- 20:23Right?
- 20:24You had it on the tee, and you hit one, and you got on base.
- 20:27And it's like now now let's go learn how to hit home runs, Jamie.
- 20:31Let's learn how to knock this out of the park, and then we're gonna teach other people how to
- 20:35do that.
- 20:36And it's a big reason why, yesterday, I contacted you to be, the new cohost of the show
- 20:42because now you're on fire.
- 20:45Right?
- 20:45And now that you have these two people that are on fire and on the same page, well, we're gonna
- 20:50spread that much faster, and it's gonna continue to just keep spreading.
- 20:53And we wanna set people on fire.
- 20:55I want you to feel it inside like I feel it.
- 20:58Right?
- 20:58And I wanna give a little piece of this to you.
- 21:01There's a meme going around that's like, you know, a candle loses none of its own flame by
- 21:06lighting another candle.
- 21:07Right?
- 21:08And we wanna we wanna be flamethrowers, baby.
- 21:10Let's go.
- 21:11Yeah.
- 21:12I'm so up for that.
- 21:13Like, Flamethrowers, letting people know that their gifts their gifts are so worthy of being
- 21:20out there, and their voice matters.
- 21:22Oh, but their voice matters.
- 21:23And I think that that is when I started to kind of open up a little bit and share my story and
- 21:29see how it affected other people to where I was connecting with people.
- 21:33And I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 21:34I've hidden this part of me for so many years.
- 21:38And yet, you know, and these thought processes within me.
- 21:41Right?
- 21:42Like, I kinda shared a little bit, and I shared with you my book that's not that's not done
- 21:48yet, but it's coming.
- 21:49It's coming.
- 21:49But, you know, it was about my realization around pain.
- 21:54Right?
- 21:55And that the comparison of pain and and how you can show up in your pain and hurt other people,
- 22:00and I really wanted to kind of dive deep into that.
- 22:04And when I when I realized this piece around pain that you and I, we both everybody on this
- 22:11planet has trauma, some kind of a trauma.
- 22:13We all feel pain, the same pain.
- 22:17We just got there differently.
- 22:18That's it.
- 22:19We just got there differently, and your pain isn't more valuable than my pain or anything.
- 22:24It's it's still pain.
- 22:25And so I wanted to start having those conversations.
- 22:29Like, how was that pain affecting people?
- 22:32How was that happening and destroying families?
- 22:35Right?
- 22:36And when we're keeping quiet about these things, like, I wanna bring it to the light.
- 22:41Right?
- 22:42I wanna bring it to the light and and dissolve whatever is going on in there, that darkness
- 22:47that you feel shame around or, you know, then you're blaming other people, and it's like, no.
- 22:52No.
- 22:52I wanna teach people how to come back home to themselves and share those gifts.
- 22:57Get rid of the shame.
- 22:58Take a bottle brush in there and get it all out.
- 23:01You know?
- 23:02And that's that's the work, the path of love work that I've done, the awakening of love
- 23:06work, you know, really giving people space to to own it, to own their shit, to own their
- 23:12their power.
- 23:13I never realized I was so afraid of anger.
- 23:15I was so afraid of anger.
- 23:17And through the path of love work that I've done, I actually found that anger was my
- 23:23freaking superpower.
- 23:24It was my passion.
- 23:25It was there, and it was like, it needed to come out, but I get to choose how I reveal that
- 23:31and how it moves me.
- 23:33Right?
- 23:34And so I don't need to throw it on other people.
- 23:36I don't need to throw mud on people or or share their ickies or whatever.
- 23:44But when I share my ickies, you know, it helps other people in a kind manner, you know, from a
- 23:50place of curiosity and nonjudgment.
- 23:52I realized in the world that I was living in, I was judging people on how I was judging myself,
- 23:58and I was afraid that other people are judging me.
- 24:01I'm like, oh, I got lots of work to do.
- 24:04You know what I mean?
- 24:05Because I was like, I couldn't even get into a conversation without curiosity, and I was like,
- 24:09oh, I got a lot of work.
- 24:10You know?
- 24:11And that started in 02/2012, I think.
- 24:13I was like, oh, whoo.
- 24:15It takes so much it takes so much courage just to get to that point where you're like, I have
- 24:20work to do.
- 24:21Right?
- 24:22So so many people go through their whole lives.
- 24:26And I think definitely with generations before, right, we were we were married or not, you
- 24:30know, our parents and things.
- 24:32Right?
- 24:33They were holding on to pain from a generation before them.
- 24:36And generational trauma doesn't mean that, like, it's just in your DNA and you're carrying
- 24:41it that way.
- 24:42It's what happened to you.
- 24:43It's what happened to you before you even have memories.
- 24:45Right?
- 24:46A lot of your trauma is at a very early age.
- 24:49Right?
- 24:49Most kids don't remember being that age at all.
- 24:52Most adults don't remember being those ages.
- 24:55And you have to carry this pain and then bury it for thirty years, right, you know, or twenty
- 25:01five years, and not be able to do anything with it because nobody really even had the tools or
- 25:07very few people had the tools.
- 25:09And I think that's the beauty of, you know, the self help world that we're in.
- 25:13Now just the beauty of the Internet.
- 25:15All of the information is out there.
- 25:17It's not behind a door.
- 25:18It's not, you know, it's not inside of a book cover.
- 25:22It's out here.
- 25:23It's out here in the world.
- 25:24And now as we keep talking about it, it gets even easier to share in the short form stuff of
- 25:30how people actually consume thoughts.
- 25:33Right?
- 25:33So, I mean, I I don't know that it was possible in the world before now, right, to to be able
- 25:40to have the tools to transmute your pain because it has to be changed.
- 25:45That energy is not going anywhere.
- 25:47And we know now that that energy will manifest itself physically inside of your body, cancer
- 25:52or pains and aches and all of these things.
- 25:54Right?
- 25:55So we know that the things that we've been through have affected us.
- 25:59We know that they're in there.
- 26:00We know if left unchecked that they may very well cause physical harm and even death.
- 26:06Right?
- 26:06So we have to find a way to bring them out from under the bush.
- 26:10Right?
- 26:12And to shine a light on them and then to use our tools to transmute that pain into something
- 26:18else.
- 26:18And for both of us, I think I can speak for you in this way that the way that we're healing
- 26:24ourselves is by being that beacon, that lighthouse, that that something to be called
- 26:31to.
- 26:32Right?
- 26:32Because we've been called.
- 26:33You know?
- 26:34I know that you've had dreams, and and, you know, me, I just keep following God every day.
- 26:40Right?
- 26:40I wake up and go to the altar every day and pray, and and my God likes stones and rocks and
- 26:49burning of incense and, like, that that's that's who my god is.
- 26:54Right?
- 26:54I'm not telling you who to go follow or that there's a book out there that you need to read
- 26:59to get there.
- 27:00You know it inside of you.
- 27:02And I think that where we're at in life is that everyone knows that feeling that religious
- 27:07texts and things have been trying to teach for millennia, right?
- 27:11Everyone is aware of that feeling.
- 27:14We just tend to put different names on it.
- 27:16So I don't care what you call it.
- 27:19Right?
- 27:19Right.
- 27:20But I want you to Yeah.
- 27:22Exactly.
- 27:23Source.
- 27:23Yeah.
- 27:24Creator.
- 27:25Whatever.
- 27:26Right?
- 27:27It doesn't it's all the same name for an energy, for a calling, and to Higher than
- 27:33us.
- 27:34Yeah.
- 27:34And to physically manifest that.
- 27:36Like, we are the physical manifestation of God.
- 27:39Right?
- 27:39Right.
- 27:39We are that.
- 27:40So us communicating with each other and being the perfect expression of God and sharing our
- 27:46imperfectness with each other, that's how we get better together.
- 27:50Right?
- 27:51Like, it's Yes.
- 27:54Well, it's hard not to get goosebumps when you're talking about real stuff.
- 27:57Right?
- 27:58Like, my my back of my head is just on fire right now.
- 28:02I've got it too.
- 28:03I'm like, oh, I'm feeling it today.
- 28:05It's wild.
- 28:06And how do you not wanna just live in that all the time?
- 28:08Right?
- 28:09And that's, I guess, why I'm so adamant about, like, figuring out the business of this whole
- 28:13thing and how it makes sense because eventually, there's business people that can do
- 28:18that too.
- 28:19Like, I'm looking for also people that know that and can do that for us so that Bubba and
- 28:26Jamie can just go be on fire and get in front of as many people as we possibly can and share
- 28:32this fire so we can start that forest fire and to get it burning and to eventually see where
- 28:38that goes.
- 28:39Right?
- 28:40Like Right.
- 28:40That's the vision that we have for this is so much bigger than just two people on a Zoom
- 28:46call, but this is a great way to get started.
- 28:50Yep.
- 28:51That's exactly it.
- 28:52I mean, that's we're starting.
- 28:53Right?
- 28:53And we talked about, you know, when we're learning how to walk.
- 28:58You know?
- 28:58And like I told you today, like, I I started crawling.
- 29:01Like, I'm like, okay.
- 29:02I'm gonna learn this.
- 29:03I don't know what this is, and I'm gonna do it, though, and I'm gonna step and and and take the
- 29:07first step.
- 29:08And I think that it's important.
- 29:11I think it's important to have those conversations.
- 29:13Right?
- 29:14I think it's important to when something's calling for you, right, write the letter.
- 29:18Write the, you know, write the message on Facebook.
- 29:21Right?
- 29:21I remember when I just forgot to be really vulnerable on Facebook.
- 29:25And people are like, Jamie, you're sharing too much.
- 29:27And I'm like, you know, and it was a little scary.
- 29:29And so I pulled back.
- 29:30And then I was like, no.
- 29:31I got to because people started saying, thank you so much.
- 29:35Right?
- 29:35Not on the Facebook itself, but in a personal message.
- 29:38Like, wow.
- 29:39You're really helping.
- 29:41You helped me.
- 29:42And I'm like, okay.
- 29:43So I was so nervous, and people did.
- 29:46They were kinda nasty, you know, at times or whatever, but I knew that I had to get my
- 29:50message out there.
- 29:52I knew that I had to start navigating some of this stuff and and and just starting.
- 29:56Right?
- 29:57And so that's kind of how I've met certain people and and changed lives and and connected
- 30:02and had stories and we've shared because I just started being vulnerable and saying this is my
- 30:10truth.
- 30:10Right?
- 30:11I remember the first time I was vulnerable around my my past experience and my trauma as a
- 30:16child.
- 30:17And I always I mean, I kept that, like, closed down because I didn't want nobody to know.
- 30:23I didn't even want my husband.
- 30:24I was married to a man, and he didn't even know the things that I had lived through.
- 30:27I had no idea.
- 30:29I had no idea.
- 30:29There was people that knew me for so many years didn't know I was adopted.
- 30:33I was adopted at age 11.
- 30:34I was so afraid.
- 30:36You know what I mean?
- 30:37And I started sharing because there was a program and a woman that I just love, Jessica
- 30:43Noda Boom, and she she challenged me.
- 30:46Right?
- 30:46I'm always about challenges.
- 30:48You challenge me, and I'm on it.
- 30:50You know?
- 30:50So but she challenged me because I became a part of the boys and girls club.
- 30:55Like, I love children and women.
- 30:56Like, I really wanna just uplift children and women and and men too, but I really connected
- 31:01with women and and children.
- 31:04And Jess said, you know, we've gotta raise $25,000 for these kiddos at the Boys and Girls
- 31:10Club.
- 31:10And I'm like, I'm out.
- 31:12Like, I can't do that.
- 31:13Like, I'm barely scraping by right now.
- 31:15Like you know?
- 31:16And so then I had an idea, and I started sharing my story in front of people and asking
- 31:22people to give money to those kids because some of these kids have the same story as me.
- 31:26Right?
- 31:26And so I said, you know, this is this is my story, and I gave a little bit.
- 31:30And I raised $10,000 that year just by myself.
- 31:34$10,000 for these kiddos to be a part of this program.
- 31:38And now I utilize my building at the Lotus Up to raise money for kids.
- 31:43I mean, I've raised thousands of dollars for the boys and girls club.
- 31:46Now this year, actually, we're gonna do fireworks for the future is what it's called.
- 31:50But I use the deck because it's right on, right in front of the big open cut there in lead.
- 31:55They do a big fireworks show, and we use use that space and use my property to raise money.
- 32:01We're doing it for post prom for kiddos for next year.
- 32:06You know?
- 32:06And then I've done Young Life.
- 32:08Right?
- 32:08I gave a checkout last year for Young Life to bring that to Lee Deadwood.
- 32:11And, you know, kids matter.
- 32:14People matter.
- 32:15Humans matter.
- 32:16And utilize what you have, and and I make money because I sell coffee and all the things.
- 32:21But I also make money for these kiddos.
- 32:24Right?
- 32:24Share what we have.
- 32:26And that's and that's our future.
- 32:29Right?
- 32:29It is how much because I've seen on a small scale, we had an event last December where we
- 32:35raised some money for a local family.
- 32:36They have a daughter diagnosed with type one diabetes.
- 32:40Shout out to Haley and Ryan Klima.
- 32:42Their daughter, say, Avery.
- 32:44Thank you.
- 32:45They have a foundation now called Saving Avery that kind of spurned out of the event.
- 32:49Look at goosebumps.
- 32:50Look at that right here.
- 32:51Well and we were able to raise with no marketing, with no major affiliation with any
- 32:56of these big, you know, the major media outlets or anything like that.
- 32:59Like, nobody was really helping us to do any of that.
- 33:02And we raised $2,000 in an evening of just me getting together with my musician friends.
- 33:07Right?
- 33:08So the fact that I mean, and that's what kinda unlocked it for me.
- 33:11That was the first time I'd I'd organized a a bit of a charity event like that, and and now
- 33:15I'm doing homework.
- 33:16You know, I went to, American Heart Association, the Go Red for Women event a few
- 33:22weeks ago or last week in Sioux Falls and watching how they did it.
- 33:25And I mean, they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars that night.
- 33:28I was like, there's no reason that with our community that we couldn't do that same thing.
- 33:33Right?
- 33:33And and I think this year, I we have plenty of causes around, but always looking for more
- 33:38using our podcast platform to advertise for other charities.
- 33:43That's something that I've thrown out there.
- 33:45You know, if you have a 501 or you have a charity that thinks, you know, that needs to be
- 33:50put out there, we'd love to feature them on ads in our like, it cost us nothing.
- 33:53Cost me $0 to put an ad for a charity on our podcast episodes.
- 33:58It cost me nothing.
- 33:59But I also don't have the time to go and seek out all the charities to to put their name on
- 34:04too.
- 34:04So kind of put out a call to action, had a few people comment, and I'll do it here again now.
- 34:09Right?
- 34:10Like, if you have a charity, if you have something that needs to be a benefit or
- 34:14anything of that nature, like, that is our function here.
- 34:18That that's what I am here for is to to run my mouth for good.
- 34:23You know?
- 34:23And to to never stop.
- 34:25And the and the power of the people.
- 34:27Right?
- 34:28Isn't that just mind blowing?
- 34:29I think that's where the superstars comes in.
- 34:31Right?
- 34:32I just had this hit, this crazy hit, blah blah blah.
- 34:35And I I was in Sioux Falls, got invited to a program called Oda, and, there was a gentleman
- 34:42talking about Detroit soup.
- 34:44And they these people got together in the arts world and and started just kind of holding
- 34:50people up.
- 34:51Right?
- 34:51Building community, building connection.
- 34:53I'm like, I could do that.
- 34:55I can do that in my little community.
- 34:57And so so I did.
- 34:59I asked Kiwanis.
- 35:01Tracy Zacker actually was my person of contact, and she went back and and superstars was born.
- 35:08Right?
- 35:08And then few years later, I took it over as a five zero one c three, started a nonprofit and
- 35:13with a small board.
- 35:14And and now we have a toolkit for rural communities to do the work.
- 35:20And it's people like you and me, $10 at a time.
- 35:23It's very transparent, and we go into communities and teach them how to do
- 35:27crowdfunding dinners.
- 35:28That's what we do, and it builds connection.
- 35:30And people talk about their dreams.
- 35:32They get five minutes to stand up.
- 35:34Spearfish right now has one.
- 35:35They bought our first toolkit five years ago, and they have raised, like, 50 plus thousand
- 35:41dollars, Bubba, just by people like you and me $10 at a time for amazing things.
- 35:46The one they just look at this.
- 35:47I have got goosebumps all over.
- 35:50Like, it's the power of the people.
- 35:52You know?
- 35:53Like, people moving people.
- 35:55And I think that that sometimes, like, people don't realize how powerful they are.
- 36:00Your voice is so powerful, and we get to use it for good.
- 36:04We get to use it for things that, you know, will build people up and and support them and
- 36:08and and lift them up.
- 36:11You know what I mean?
- 36:11Because this world is hard, hard enough.
- 36:14We don't need to make it harder.
- 36:15You know?
- 36:17No.
- 36:17We don't.
- 36:18No.
- 36:19And and, you know, guys like Tony Robbins, who I know you're a huge fan of, like, if words
- 36:23didn't have power, he wouldn't be a bazillionaire.
- 36:27Right?
- 36:27You know what I mean?
- 36:28Like Yeah.
- 36:29The man
- 36:30and he has a story too.
- 36:32Like, you and I.
- 36:33I mean, he's got a story.
- 36:35Yeah.
- 36:35And share and and sharing that story is is how he changed lives and realizing, you know, early
- 36:42on before the Internet or anything that this is, you know, what what he chose to do with his
- 36:48life.
- 36:49And I'm so so grateful for people like him to to be that beacon for us to look to and go, oh,
- 36:55no.
- 36:55We can this is how we make people better.
- 36:58Okay.
- 36:58We get it now.
- 36:59Thank you, Tony.
- 37:00Thank you.
- 37:00We're now we're Tony.
- 37:01Yeah.
- 37:02And now we have the ability to do that and to keep growing, you know, this little podcast
- 37:08following and to grow it into a big community where we can start to go and to visit areas
- 37:14personally and to bring ourselves physically and to bring these these, you know, online
- 37:18communities, to a physical reality.
- 37:21Right?
- 37:22To to a space.
- 37:22And and then, like, talk about how that room you just everybody should be swimming in
- 37:27goosebumps that day.
- 37:29Yes.
- 37:30Amen.
- 37:31That's exactly.
- 37:32And I feel that, and I know that that is coming.
- 37:35Like, I just do.
- 37:35And when I met you and we both had the same vision, I was like, wait.
- 37:39You have that vision too?
- 37:40Like, I have that vision.
- 37:41You know what I mean?
- 37:42Like, it was just so beautiful how we were so connected on that level, you know, and what you
- 37:47and your wife are doing and and some of the people that I'm connected with and we're doing.
- 37:52And I just it's so incredible.
- 37:54So incredible.
- 37:56And and and it builds an incredible community.
- 37:58And that's what I think that we're realizing is that when we kind of combine our powers now and
- 38:04in coming together that we have amplified not just ourselves, but our communities.
- 38:10Right?
- 38:10And and granted ours has a lot of overlap to it as well, you know, to put together an event or
- 38:16retreat or a summit or anything in the Black Hills would be very easy for us to accomplish.
- 38:21Right?
- 38:21I have a very big, you know, loyal following there as well as well as you do.
- 38:26And, you know, that's maybe that's the the next step.
- 38:30Right?
- 38:30Build out this podcast following a little bit further and to come up with a nice framework of
- 38:36of the message that we want to deliver and then to just keep doing it.
- 38:40Like and just I don't ever wanna stop doing what I'm doing now.
- 38:45I I I can't.
- 38:46I can't stop.
- 38:47So I have to find a way to make it make a little money so that we don't lose our house in
- 38:52the meantime.
- 38:54Right.
- 38:55Yeah.
- 38:55No joke.
- 38:56And that's a true thing.
- 38:57Right?
- 38:57I mean, people are looking at that too and and that fear, but it's not letting that fear take
- 39:02us out.
- 39:02Like, understanding that there's some something so much higher than me.
- 39:06And that's the thing, like, we talked about yesterday around, you know, conversations that
- 39:11I've had and just with my next level collective, you know, that program that I just,
- 39:17launched in January.
- 39:18I mean, I I just onboarded nine women nine women into this program and have the
- 39:24opportunity to go into corporate, which is just beautiful and brilliant, teaching people how to
- 39:30communicate, right, with each other and coach each other and be there for each other, bring
- 39:33connection.
- 39:34And that's that's that's my purpose on this planet.
- 39:37And, yeah, it's like having people be inspired by people, by their stories.
- 39:43It's what we're doing.
- 39:44You know?
- 39:46We're teaching people how to be better humans.
- 39:49Yeah.
- 39:50Yeah.
- 39:51Because I think people do.
- 39:52I mean but there's so much fear in the world.
- 39:55And if you can get away from that fear and be like, no.
- 39:57You know?
- 39:58And and that's the thing is that I kept learning that I never did it for the money.
- 40:02The money didn't drive me.
- 40:03I mean, yeah, it's nice or whatever, and there was moments where, like, money was a thing, but
- 40:08I don't know why.
- 40:09I just had this, like, total understanding, and maybe it's because I came from nothing.
- 40:13I don't know.
- 40:14But, like, there was this deeper understanding that I'd be taken care of.
- 40:18Right?
- 40:18And I have over and over and over again when it looks so glam like, gloomy and nasty.
- 40:25All of a sudden, I get a check-in the mail for $25,000, or, you know, I overpaid my taxes.
- 40:30That happened.
- 40:31I was like, what?
- 40:32Like, how do you do that?
- 40:34You know what I mean?
- 40:35And then it was like, okay.
- 40:36Like, okay.
- 40:38When COVID hit.
- 40:39Right?
- 40:39I mean, that's a real thing for people.
- 40:41Every bit of community thought process I had was challenged.
- 40:45I was in a bad place, baba.
- 40:47I was in a bad place because I wasn't I just had launched the superstars, and now they're
- 40:52telling me I can't bring people together, and I was a wreck.
- 40:57I was a wreck.
- 40:57I wasn't able to challenge some of those things.
- 40:59I was too afraid.
- 41:01And as I was navigating, my coffee house was actually on, like, on fire serving people.
- 41:08I mean, we were serving so many people out of drive through window.
- 41:11Thank you Jesus for putting in a drive through window.
- 41:14I mean, people needed that connection, and I had it.
- 41:18I had it.
- 41:18I kept every one of my employees moving.
- 41:21I they were moving and and working and doing all the things.
- 41:24Like, I just I'm so grateful.
- 41:27So grateful.
- 41:29I,
- 41:30like,
- 41:30get teary eyed.
- 41:31Yeah.
- 41:32Well and I'm so grateful to not just know you, Jamie, but to consider you a friend and to have
- 41:38you now as the cohost of Get Better Together and just keep growing.
- 41:42You know?
- 41:43We we both could be hosting 12 podcasts with all the directions that we could go, and maybe
- 41:49we'll get there one day.
- 41:50But we're gonna focus on, this one together and then getting yours, really moving and walking.
- 41:56Right?
- 41:56That's our next step.
- 41:57You're crawling now.
- 41:58It's, you're gonna be grabbing onto furniture and kinda hobbling along real soon.
- 42:04And before you'll know it, you'll be flying.
- 42:06So Yeah.
- 42:07Thank you.
