- 0:00Speaker 1: Jen Hatfield with the next Kaitlin for you, you know,
- 0:04Speaker 1: just what do you think the biggest areas are that
- 0:06Speaker 1: you've grown as a player during your season with Yukon
- 0:09Speaker 1: And how do you feel like Princeton prepared you for
- 0:12Speaker 1: all that you've gone through this season and for this moment.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I feel like Princeton has prepared me really well as
- 0:19Speaker 2: a leader. I feel like that's where I got comfortable
- 0:23Speaker 2: using my voice, and I feel like that's sort of
- 0:25Speaker 2: translated over here and then being here at Yukonage just
- 0:28Speaker 2: a matter of getting comfortable playing within our system and
- 0:31Speaker 2: finding the best places for me to succeed.
- 0:36Speaker 3: We won't go to our left coach Tredy from SB
- 0:39Speaker 3: Nation this for you page right now. You're on a
- 0:42Speaker 3: tear like you're going wild right now in your mind.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Do you already feel like you're a pro going against
- 0:47Speaker 3: college kids?
- 0:49Speaker 4: Uh?
- 0:49Speaker 5: No, not at all. Just being present here. I'm still
- 0:54Speaker 5: in college and being my fifth year. Obviously, I want
- 0:59Speaker 5: to use my experience as an advantage and use that
- 1:02Speaker 5: to help myself and to help the team. But definitely
- 1:06Speaker 5: not just staying in president here in college.
- 1:09Speaker 6: We're going to stay too, all right, Kareem if you
- 1:11Speaker 6: can raise your hand. I see you will put you
- 1:13Speaker 6: on a list.
- 1:15Speaker 7: Hey pitched Kareem Copland, Washington Post.
- 1:18Speaker 8: How did you you know?
- 1:19Speaker 7: Obviously the championship is the goal, but how did you
- 1:23Speaker 7: kind of want to approach this one more run in
- 1:27Speaker 7: this tournament? And you know, like you've just said, you know,
- 1:29Speaker 7: you've kind of really turned it up these last three.
- 1:31Speaker 7: So personally, how did you want to approach this tournament?
- 1:36Speaker 5: Just approaching it as one game at a time, one
- 1:39Speaker 5: practice at a time, one weight room session at a time,
- 1:43Speaker 5: and not looking too forward into the future, and going
- 1:46Speaker 5: forty minutes by forty minutes and playing it by possession.
- 1:49Speaker 5: I think focusing on the possession that you're in will
- 1:52Speaker 5: help you not worry about mishots or mistakes in the past,
- 1:56Speaker 5: or worry about being anxious for the future. But the
- 1:59Speaker 5: possession that you're in is the most important possession of
- 2:01Speaker 5: the season, and if you approach every possession like that,
- 2:04Speaker 5: you'll have a sense of urgency to get everything right
- 2:08Speaker 5: and just enjoying it, embracing it. Obviously, it's it's my
- 2:11Speaker 5: last year, it's all of our last years here, so
- 2:13Speaker 5: just to be able to enjoy being here together and
- 2:17Speaker 5: enjoy the little things like hanging out, sonaing together, cold
- 2:22Speaker 5: tubbing together, eating together, like all the little things that
- 2:26Speaker 5: you sometimes take for granted. Don't take them for granted
- 2:30Speaker 5: and just enjoy them as much as you can.
- 2:33Speaker 6: We'll stay to our right.
- 2:34Speaker 9: Please, je Doug Farrenberg, the Associated Press for all three
- 2:37Speaker 9: of you. What challenges does you silly present for you guys?
- 2:42Speaker 5: Sorry?
- 2:43Speaker 6: Yes, please?
- 2:46Speaker 5: Obviously, Lauren Betts decide what she does offensively defensively protecting
- 2:52Speaker 5: the paint and being a force on offense, really carving
- 2:56Speaker 5: out space for herself, but also what she does to
- 2:58Speaker 5: get her teammates open looks with all the attention that
- 3:01Speaker 5: she draws, and it's not just her. There's shooters sprayed
- 3:05Speaker 5: around the outside, so you can't focus on too much
- 3:07Speaker 5: on one thing.
- 3:09Speaker 6: So they're really versatile.
- 3:10Speaker 5: And what they do offensively defensively got good size, good length,
- 3:15Speaker 5: so they got great pieces.
- 3:18Speaker 10: I agree they have great pieces, especially Lauren Betts and
- 3:22Speaker 10: the inside. And I think if we do a good
- 3:25Speaker 10: job of just well, we we gotta like play both
- 3:29Speaker 10: and play their inside and outside. They have some great
- 3:33Speaker 10: shooters too, so I think they're very riskative.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, everything, the two of them already said.
- 3:42Speaker 6: We're going to the center of.
- 3:44Speaker 11: The room high Paige Kirk Sandoval from maybe C seven
- 3:48Speaker 11: when you stepped into this program, it's a legendary women's program.
- 3:53Speaker 11: Can you speak to a the pressure then, and did
- 3:56Speaker 11: it ever diminish, how did it become or has it
- 4:00Speaker 11: ever become just normal?
- 4:03Speaker 5: Well, I think before you even get here, you kind
- 4:05Speaker 5: of know the pressures that exist by committing to Yukon,
- 4:09Speaker 5: So by making that decision to want to come here
- 4:12Speaker 5: and try to live up to that and be a
- 4:13Speaker 5: part of a legendary program. It's a decision you have
- 4:17Speaker 5: to make before you even step on a campus. And
- 4:19Speaker 5: then once you walk inside the practice facility, you see
- 4:23Speaker 5: all the history, all the names, all the banners.
- 4:26Speaker 6: It's just motivation.
- 4:27Speaker 5: And obviously there's expectations here and anything less than a
- 4:32Speaker 5: national championship is really a disappointment. And as players, that's
- 4:36Speaker 5: what you play for and what you want to live
- 4:38Speaker 5: up to, and the expectations and the pressure. It's a privilege,
- 4:42Speaker 5: and so we all look at it, look at it
- 4:44Speaker 5: as such, and we're just extremely grateful to play here
- 4:48Speaker 5: under the best coaching staff in the world, in the
- 4:50Speaker 5: best program in the world. And we just wear the
- 4:53Speaker 5: jersey with pride and want to live up to everything
- 4:55Speaker 5: that the alums have done and that the coaching staff
- 4:57Speaker 5: is done.
- 4:59Speaker 6: Take our next question, Cassandra, then we'll come to mil.
- 5:04Speaker 12: Cassandra Neglie with Yahoo Sports page. When you were talking
- 5:07Speaker 12: about not taking anything for granted, the saunas, the food,
- 5:10Speaker 12: everything like that, how different is that from your first
- 5:13Speaker 12: Final four? Do you feel like you did take those
- 5:16Speaker 12: final moments with some of those teammates for granted.
- 5:19Speaker 5: I wouldn't say that, it's just that you don't even
- 5:20Speaker 5: recognize how important they are to life and how you're
- 5:29Speaker 5: not ever guaranteed to get back there again, and having
- 5:32Speaker 5: experience being at the Final four, how hard it is
- 5:34Speaker 5: to get there and how hard it is to maintain
- 5:39Speaker 5: consistency throughout a long, entire season. So not that you
- 5:43Speaker 5: take those things for granted, but you don't have the
- 5:46Speaker 5: experience on how hard it is to get there, and
- 5:48Speaker 5: so just learning throughout the whole journey of the of
- 5:52Speaker 5: the seasons, the ups and downs, the ebbs and flows,
- 5:55Speaker 5: just taking none of that for granted because it's all
- 5:57Speaker 5: a part of that season's journey. So I would just
- 6:00Speaker 5: say I'm more appreciation of it.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Mil Mel Greenberg for Caitlin. When most people are transferring
- 6:13Speaker 4: out the door right now, it's contentious. The IVYS is
- 6:17Speaker 4: the other way they tell you you're done.
- 6:19Speaker 13: Good luck.
- 6:20Speaker 4: So it's going to be a more friendly departure given
- 6:24Speaker 4: who your coach is. And also we found it interesting
- 6:29Speaker 4: the other night that you did the same role that
- 6:31Speaker 4: she did in ninety five. It's sort of a lifesaver
- 6:34Speaker 4: and a key spot. But in leaving did she kind
- 6:36Speaker 4: of granted he's an older guy. Now give you the
- 6:39Speaker 4: Book of Yukon or whatever you know, whatever you can
- 6:42Speaker 4: share on that When you were making your decision, she.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Was definitely a very helpful resource as someone who played
- 6:51Speaker 2: here and knows the coaches very well. But I just
- 6:56Speaker 2: know that she is my best or she had my
- 6:58Speaker 2: best interests in mind, and I shoose someone who I
- 7:02Speaker 2: trust tremendously and someone who helped me make this decision.
- 7:08Speaker 5: For sure.
- 7:10Speaker 6: Going to go to our left in the gray BU
- 7:12Speaker 6: could raise your hand in the YEP Dead Center.
- 7:16Speaker 8: I'm Mike Anthony from Herston, Connecticut for Paige Page. I
- 7:20Speaker 8: know that this sport is an easy on one's body,
- 7:22Speaker 8: and you are five years at Yukon, what have you
- 7:25Speaker 8: learned about taking care of your body? Wondering if you
- 7:28Speaker 8: could just speak to how any body transformation you've seen
- 7:33Speaker 8: in five years. I know you take more seriously strength
- 7:35Speaker 8: and contraditioning and nutrition and just a lot goes into
- 7:38Speaker 8: that I understand.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say the importance of eating, getting all
- 7:43Speaker 5: three meals, of course, but also stuff in between, sleeping
- 7:48Speaker 5: how important that is for the body, and rest and
- 7:50Speaker 5: recovery and making sure you're replenishing yourself with a good,
- 7:54Speaker 5: nice rest. Pilates has been a game changer for me
- 7:57Speaker 5: in terms of getting all of my body parts to
- 8:00Speaker 5: work together as one. Everything surrounded by the core, so
- 8:03Speaker 5: making sure my core is engaged, and even just activation.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I was a person who just loved to tie their
- 8:08Speaker 5: shoes and get on the core and play, but activating
- 8:10Speaker 5: my muscles before participation. So I mean a lot of
- 8:14Speaker 5: things going to taking care of your body, and obviously
- 8:16Speaker 5: strength and conditioning is one is the main ingredient, but
- 8:20Speaker 5: there's a lot of other things that are important.
- 8:23Speaker 6: Going to stay middle to the back. If you could
- 8:25Speaker 6: raise your hand in the green so the student athletes can.
- 8:27Speaker 14: See you.
- 8:30Speaker 15: Domin Marie Hartford, current Pegia Gino alluded to this the
- 8:34Speaker 15: other day. Obviously, Lauren Betts has talked about it, the
- 8:39Speaker 15: scrutiny and the pressure that comes with what you do
- 8:42Speaker 15: and where you do it. How did you learn to
- 8:45Speaker 15: kind of deal with that? I imagine there were times when
- 8:47Speaker 15: it was even more than you thought it was going
- 8:49Speaker 15: to be. How did you learn to handle all of
- 8:52Speaker 15: that that goes around being a basketball player at Yukon?
- 8:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I means still a learning process, learning to care
- 9:00Speaker 5: less about the opinions of others and trying to please everyone.
- 9:05Speaker 5: For every five hundred people that love you, there's gonna
- 9:09Speaker 5: be five that hate you. So it's just focusing on
- 9:11Speaker 5: the people that are important. And obviously there's a saying
- 9:16Speaker 5: like you don't take criticism from people you can take
- 9:18Speaker 5: advice from, So just making sure you're listening to the
- 9:21Speaker 5: right voices. Deleting social media is a great word of
- 9:25Speaker 5: advice as well, so just not paying attention to it,
- 9:30Speaker 5: not letting anything outside of this locker room, the program
- 9:33Speaker 5: that we have infiltrate what we have, so.
- 9:37Speaker 6: Well, stay So I left in the blue. If you
- 9:38Speaker 6: can raise your hands so we can get the microphone.
- 9:40Speaker 16: Tea Chelsea shrod S and y Aubrey and Caitlin dis
- 9:46Speaker 16: questions for you. Paige has talked about a sense of
- 9:49Speaker 16: urgency that she's playing with right now, and I think
- 9:51Speaker 16: we've been seeing that over the past few games. I
- 9:53Speaker 16: wonder what that urgency looks like for the two of
- 9:57Speaker 16: you and kind of how that shows up in your
- 9:58Speaker 16: approach to the games.
- 10:00Speaker 6: We can start with Orber.
- 10:02Speaker 10: I think her sense of urgency rubs off on everyone.
- 10:05Speaker 10: Just how hard working she is and you can tell
- 10:08Speaker 10: she's really determined and the traits that she brings to
- 10:11Speaker 10: the games. It rubs off on everyone. Her leadership is
- 10:16Speaker 10: something that we all look up to her for and
- 10:20Speaker 10: she's done a great job of just being that leader
- 10:23Speaker 10: this year and it's overall been great.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, And I feel like when we see her sort
- 10:30Speaker 2: of take it into like that next level, like turn
- 10:34Speaker 2: the switch during games, it's pretty infectious, like it's something
- 10:38Speaker 2: you want to be a part of, and you see
- 10:40Speaker 2: her giving her all into like you want to give
- 10:42Speaker 2: her all as well.
- 10:44Speaker 6: We are at time for our student athletes. At this time,
- 10:47Speaker 6: student athletes will move over to the mixed zone. The
- 10:49Speaker 6: locker room for Yukon is now open and we will
- 10:51Speaker 6: be joined on the daist by a coach.
- 10:54Speaker 17: Thank you, thank you, welcome coach.
- 11:25Speaker 6: All right, coach, we are going to begin on our
- 11:28Speaker 6: right hand side. Joe will go to you. I see you, Doug,
- 11:30Speaker 6: and I see you as.
- 11:31Speaker 14: Well, Joe Gino Joey Johnston from the Tampa Bayed Sports Commission.
- 11:39Speaker 14: Your friend Jose Fernandez is about to become the president.
- 11:43Speaker 13: Of the WBCA.
- 11:44Speaker 14: Could you speak about your relationship with him, what you
- 11:47Speaker 14: think he can bring to this role, and what you
- 11:49Speaker 14: think the WBCA's priorities are for the coming year.
- 11:57Speaker 18: Well, yeah, I've known Jose for thirty years now almost,
- 12:00Speaker 18: and I think he's a tremendous coach obviously as everybody knows,
- 12:08Speaker 18: but he cares deeply about the game itself. He's been
- 12:16Speaker 18: involved in various committees. Uh, you know, so he puts
- 12:22Speaker 18: the time and and and the effort that it takes.
- 12:28Speaker 18: I was in that role and so I know it's
- 12:32Speaker 18: it's a thankless role because you're trying to bring a
- 12:35Speaker 18: lot of different agendas to the table and try to
- 12:42Speaker 18: make them all go in the same direction.
- 12:44Speaker 13: Not always easy.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Uh.
- 12:48Speaker 18: Hopefully he can get the right people in the room too.
- 12:56Speaker 18: Be be okay, with thinking outside the norm.
- 13:03Speaker 13: Asking the right people for advice. You know, there's.
- 13:11Speaker 18: A lot of administrators, there's a lot of coaches, there's
- 13:15Speaker 18: a lot of ads that they've been to multiple, multiple
- 13:19Speaker 18: final fours with the men and the women. And I
- 13:22Speaker 18: think a lot of times we say, well, just because
- 13:25Speaker 18: the guys do it, that doesn't mean we should do it.
- 13:27Speaker 13: That's absolutely true.
- 13:29Speaker 18: We do something that they don't do, which is, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 18: we have quarters. They're the only people that bounce the
- 13:38Speaker 18: basketball to play halfs. We advanced the ball so the
- 13:41Speaker 18: game lasts longer, so you have longer, more opportunities to
- 13:44Speaker 18: win the game. You know, we did away with the
- 13:47Speaker 18: one on one and all that. We've come up with
- 13:49Speaker 18: some great ideas that have helped our game. But I
- 13:52Speaker 18: also think we're sometimes afraid to look at what they
- 13:55Speaker 18: do that enhances their tournament and see whether or not
- 13:58Speaker 18: that fits what we want to do and not be
- 14:02Speaker 18: married to tradition. I guess what I'm saying, and bring
- 14:07Speaker 18: the game, as I've been a big proponent is and
- 14:09Speaker 18: I'm going to talk to jose about this, bring the
- 14:12Speaker 18: game to more people. By going to two regionals, we've
- 14:16Speaker 18: taken the game away from the people, and I think
- 14:19Speaker 18: we need to bring it back to where more people
- 14:21Speaker 18: can be in the stands. And lastly, we need to
- 14:27Speaker 18: change the schedule. We need to finish way earlier than
- 14:31Speaker 18: we finish now, so that we don't come here Tuesday night,
- 14:35Speaker 18: three thousand miles and then practice Wednesday and Thursday and
- 14:40Speaker 18: play the biggest game of the year on Friday night
- 14:42Speaker 18: at nine thirty, you know. And we were the last
- 14:46Speaker 18: team to play on Monday, and the team we played
- 14:50Speaker 18: was home Sunday afternoon. So and that that just goes
- 14:56Speaker 18: for whoever played in that game. I just happened to
- 14:58Speaker 18: be that person today. So we need to change the
- 15:02Speaker 18: schedule so that we have more time. And maybe we
- 15:05Speaker 18: need to finish on a different weekend than the menu finish.
- 15:09Speaker 18: Maybe we need to finish a week earlier. We do
- 15:12Speaker 18: it for the conference tournaments, right, So there's a lot
- 15:14Speaker 18: of things I want to talk to him about. He
- 15:18Speaker 18: might be the one guy that will ask me. So
- 15:20Speaker 18: that's not a bad thing.
- 15:24Speaker 6: We're going to do a little bit of a zigzag.
- 15:26Speaker 6: We'll go Doug, then we'll go domb and then we'll
- 15:28Speaker 6: work our way back.
- 15:29Speaker 9: Hey, Gina, Doug Farnberg AP Corey was saying before, I
- 15:34Speaker 9: guess thirteen years ago she came to watch you guys
- 15:36Speaker 9: practice in the n SEE a tournament. I think you
- 15:38Speaker 9: said sweet sixteen round and then came back to the
- 15:40Speaker 9: staff a year later. Just keep talking about her relationship
- 15:43Speaker 9: with her and just the fact you're willing to open
- 15:44Speaker 9: up the biggest time of the year to let a
- 15:46Speaker 9: coach who was new so to speak at a school
- 15:49Speaker 9: coming and learn from you guys. And now you're playing
- 15:51Speaker 9: her on the stage.
- 15:52Speaker 13: Yeah. If I to know, and I wouldn't let her in. Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 18: I I just remember when I was a young coach,
- 16:02Speaker 18: especially in high school. When I was a young coach
- 16:04Speaker 18: in high school, I always admired the coaches that were
- 16:12Speaker 18: open and willing to share ideas, their ideas. I've never
- 16:21Speaker 18: been one to want to hide anything or oh my god,
- 16:25Speaker 18: their competitors. And one of the funniest things that ever
- 16:28Speaker 18: happened was three kids, you know, from Tennessee showed up
- 16:33Speaker 18: for practice for like two or three days and they thought,
- 16:36Speaker 18: you know, they called the head. Obviously they didn't just
- 16:37Speaker 18: walk in, but everybody thought at that time, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 18: oh my god, this is like you know, the Cold War.
- 16:43Speaker 18: You know, the Russians are coming right, and it was
- 16:46Speaker 18: so much fun for us for them. Basketball is basketball,
- 16:50Speaker 18: you know, and it's our job to share it if
- 16:53Speaker 18: we have anything that's worth it, and if they think
- 16:55Speaker 18: we have something that's worth it, and you can't worry about,
- 16:59Speaker 18: you know, anything else.
- 17:00Speaker 13: And our relationship, you know.
- 17:03Speaker 18: And through USA Basketball, Courty and I got to know
- 17:05Speaker 18: each other a little bit and we both share, you know,
- 17:09Speaker 18: passion for Wines and you know so her you know, her,
- 17:14Speaker 18: her energy and all that that she has that she
- 17:17Speaker 18: brings is just infectious, I think, And and I'm glad
- 17:23Speaker 18: when coaches have success, and that's what we're here for.
- 17:29Speaker 6: Going to our that's all left Domamory Hart for current.
- 17:33Speaker 15: You know, you've coached a couple of Hall of famers
- 17:36Speaker 15: that Yukon and that number could double, yeah, in the
- 17:39Speaker 15: next couple of days.
- 17:40Speaker 13: I wonder if you can.
- 17:40Speaker 15: Give us your thoughts on on the possibility of a
- 17:43Speaker 15: couple of more of your players going into the Hall
- 17:45Speaker 15: of Fame.
- 17:48Speaker 18: You know, it's it's so unbelievable that when you think
- 17:53Speaker 18: of a seventeen year old that you're sitting there talking
- 17:57Speaker 18: to and you're projecting them as freshman sophomores in college
- 18:05Speaker 18: and juniors in college and where do I think they
- 18:08Speaker 18: can be and how much impact could they have on
- 18:10Speaker 18: our program and all those great things, And when they're there,
- 18:16Speaker 18: you realize there's something special about them and fast forward
- 18:22Speaker 18: and then to look up and realize that their wilder
- 18:33Speaker 18: dreams have come true. I mean, what kid doesn't shoot
- 18:37Speaker 18: a basket when they're ten and think about winning a
- 18:40Speaker 18: national championship, winning you know, gold medal, and then somebody goes,
- 18:44Speaker 18: you know, you're the best player in the country.
- 18:48Speaker 13: But I don't.
- 18:48Speaker 18: I don't know that any one of those kids ever
- 18:50Speaker 18: came to Yukon saying, you know, I came here to
- 18:53Speaker 18: make the Hall of Fame, to be inducted into the
- 18:55Speaker 18: Hall of Fame. I don't think anybody said that. Maybe
- 18:58Speaker 18: Diana did, because you know, but for me to see,
- 19:05Speaker 18: you know, what's happened out there with Rebecca and Swim
- 19:10Speaker 18: and now Maya and Sue obviously being in the mix,
- 19:17Speaker 18: that that pretty much is bigger than when you look
- 19:21Speaker 18: back then all the national championships.
- 19:26Speaker 13: Hamers who.
- 19:30Speaker 18: They're hall of famers for me, they're Hall of famers
- 19:32Speaker 18: for their family, they're Hall of famers for everybody. They're
- 19:35Speaker 18: even Hall of famers for the Yukon haters. That's one
- 19:39Speaker 18: thing they can all agree on. You know, they're they're
- 19:44Speaker 18: Olympian Hall of Fame famers, they're w NBA Hall of famers,
- 19:48Speaker 18: they're college Hall of famers, they're Hall of famers as people,
- 19:51Speaker 18: most of them.
- 19:53Speaker 6: I'm going to our right, Ben, if you could raise
- 19:54Speaker 6: your Handsel coach can see.
- 19:55Speaker 19: You're been picking with the athletic. You know, Don was
- 19:58Speaker 19: in here earlier and she met that she wants or
- 20:01Speaker 19: she hopes that college basketball would have its own TV
- 20:04Speaker 19: deal to determine its worth. I guess where do you
- 20:07Speaker 19: stand on? Who said that down about the meteorites deal?
- 20:12Speaker 18: Oh, the women's basketball should have their own Yeah, yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 18: I thought they were. I thought they were doing stuff
- 20:18Speaker 18: like that. I thought they were trying to spin it off.
- 20:21Speaker 18: I don't know where that got, and it probably didn't
- 20:24Speaker 18: get as far as maybe it could have. But we
- 20:26Speaker 18: talk about that all the time, and we also, Uh,
- 20:32Speaker 18: it's funny because we talk about it in in in
- 20:36Speaker 18: our league. You know, we talk about it as as
- 20:38Speaker 18: you can. You know, how do we how do we
- 20:41Speaker 18: get more value for our brand? Is it worth more
- 20:43Speaker 18: than if you put it into collectively a bunch of
- 20:46Speaker 18: other stuff. So it's worth it, It's worth exploring.
- 20:52Speaker 13: I think.
- 20:55Speaker 18: When you put it out there, you're gonna have to
- 20:57Speaker 18: be ready for it. Maybe smaller than you think, and
- 21:00Speaker 18: it may be three times larger than you think. So
- 21:05Speaker 18: it's best to find out right instead of just keep wondering. So, yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 18: I would think that would be fantastic in the States.
- 21:14Speaker 20: To the center of the room, coach, Hey, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 20: Matt Baker with the athletic another kind of big picture question,
- 21:19Speaker 20: but revenue sharing probably going to be finalized and signed
- 21:22Speaker 20: off on here in the next couple of days or weeks.
- 21:24Speaker 20: What sort of impact do you expect that to have
- 21:26Speaker 20: on your game and the types of programs that are
- 21:28Speaker 20: able to compete From women's final.
- 21:30Speaker 18: Fours, well, it all ruin parody, that's number one.
- 21:38Speaker 13: I mean, I'm for revenue sharing. There will be.
- 21:46Speaker 18: Less parody in the game of basketball. If you look
- 21:51Speaker 18: at right now, there's less parody happening every year in
- 21:55Speaker 18: men's basketball. People talk about the football twelve schools, it's
- 21:59Speaker 18: the same four in the final four, seems like every year.
- 22:03Speaker 18: And as the money now drives it, there's gonna be
- 22:07Speaker 18: less people that have that kind of money. There's gonna
- 22:10Speaker 18: be less of them. They're gonna want to give it
- 22:12Speaker 18: to women's basketball. So if the number of teams that
- 22:18Speaker 18: could win the national championship when it was US in
- 22:22Speaker 18: Tennessee and everybody wanted anybody to win other than Yukon
- 22:25Speaker 18: and Tennessee, and then it kind of stretched to kind
- 22:28Speaker 18: of stretch. The kind of stretch. Now you look at
- 22:29Speaker 18: the landscape today and it still a lot of the
- 22:35Speaker 18: same teams, but there's a lot more vying for that
- 22:39Speaker 18: spot in the final four. Well, now that's all gonna
- 22:42Speaker 18: go away. Now it'll become like college football where in
- 22:47Speaker 18: every conference and it's the conference to get bigger, think
- 22:51Speaker 18: about it, it's eighteen teams in it in the Big
- 22:53Speaker 18: Ten for now. Okay, I would venture to say eight
- 22:57Speaker 18: of those teams will never get to championship game in
- 23:00Speaker 18: any sport that I'm talking about, basketball, football, men's basketball.
- 23:05Speaker 13: Maybe.
- 23:06Speaker 18: So when you do, when you do those kind of
- 23:08Speaker 18: things and it's money driven, it's going to be who's
- 23:12Speaker 18: going to become the Dodgers and the Yankees and how
- 23:15Speaker 18: many of those are you going to have? And how
- 23:17Speaker 18: many other programs in women's basketball are going to be
- 23:22Speaker 18: Milwaukee and Kansas City because that's where we're headed. And
- 23:27Speaker 18: don't believe this twenty point five million salary cap. See
- 23:31Speaker 18: the thing in the NBA if you go over to
- 23:33Speaker 18: salary cap, there's a huge tax.
- 23:36Speaker 13: There's a salary.
- 23:37Speaker 18: Cap in revenue sharing in sports in college, you think
- 23:40Speaker 18: anybody in their right mind is going to stick to
- 23:42Speaker 18: twenty point five. That might be what's on the books,
- 23:46Speaker 18: but that ain't going to be the final number. And
- 23:50Speaker 18: there's nobody out there looking around to collect taxes on that.
- 23:55Speaker 6: Coach, You're going to go to our right, Can.
- 23:58Speaker 13: We play at UCLA? They're really good? Start to throw
- 24:03Speaker 13: that in.
- 24:05Speaker 21: Hey, coach t Baker with the next when you Caitlyn
- 24:07Speaker 21: Chen obviously had a great ELITEA and when you think
- 24:10Speaker 21: about what she's brought all season, what has been the
- 24:12Speaker 21: different the biggest difference she's brought to the team and
- 24:14Speaker 21: what gap has she filled in the roster?
- 24:18Speaker 18: Maturity, experience, you know, things that we obviously lost when
- 24:26Speaker 18: when Nica graduated. She's a different player than Nika, different personality,
- 24:35Speaker 18: approaches things differently, different skill set, but in.
- 24:41Speaker 13: What we needed for this particular.
- 24:43Speaker 18: Team, I think she's been the perfect edition. Obviously, Sarah
- 24:50Speaker 18: Strong was the biggest addition. I think Caitlyn Chen was
- 24:56Speaker 18: the perfect addition for what this team needed at the
- 25:01Speaker 18: position that we needed it. And so you saw the
- 25:05Speaker 18: other night in that game. Why was worth bringing her in?
- 25:11Speaker 18: And I have had a blast coaching her.
- 25:14Speaker 6: I mean, go to the second row on our left.
- 25:18Speaker 18: Contrary to I, really students, they do have a sense
- 25:21Speaker 18: of humor.
- 25:23Speaker 22: Hi, I'm Stephanie from eSPI Nation. There have been a
- 25:26Speaker 22: few players not from yukon this tournament run who have
- 25:29Speaker 22: expressed they've come from traumatic or toxic environments to other schools.
- 25:35Speaker 22: You have a wealth of coaching experience and you obviously
- 25:38Speaker 22: have players for decades that adore you. What do coaches like?
- 25:42Speaker 22: What do coaches need to do better?
- 25:46Speaker 18: And oh man, even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you.
- 25:51Speaker 18: I mean I could share when I can't share that much.
- 25:55Speaker 18: I just think this incredible pressure to win and the
- 26:02Speaker 18: pressure to your question about revenue sharing, the pressure to
- 26:06Speaker 18: win is only going to get greater. You mean, I'm
- 26:09Speaker 18: paying you guys, and this is what I got to watch.
- 26:12Speaker 18: Somebody's getting fired, So the pressure's immense. It's only going
- 26:19Speaker 18: to get more pressure packed. So how do you react
- 26:23Speaker 18: under pressure. Well, if you've been there and done that,
- 26:27Speaker 18: you're secure. You just stay the course and say this
- 26:30Speaker 18: is what we do. And if you don't like it, tough.
- 26:32Speaker 18: If you're young and you're trying to make a name
- 26:34Speaker 18: for yourself and you're like close or not quite there,
- 26:39Speaker 18: well I can buy a team. It's better than recruiting one.
- 26:44Speaker 18: I gotta wait forever for them to get better. I
- 26:46Speaker 18: just go and buy a team. Well, now the kids
- 26:48Speaker 18: all know they came to your school to get paid.
- 26:52Speaker 18: And when everybody's getting paid and they find out who's
- 26:54Speaker 18: getting paid what. And the animosity now between coaches and players.
- 27:00Speaker 18: You know it used to be, you know, players didn't
- 27:04Speaker 18: like the fact that coaches had all the power. Well,
- 27:07Speaker 18: now coaches hate the fact that players have all the power.
- 27:10Speaker 18: Players on the team hate each other because of what
- 27:12Speaker 18: one is getting the other one's not getting. And all
- 27:15Speaker 18: of a sudden, nobody's coming there to win a national championship.
- 27:17Speaker 18: They're coming there to build their brand, to make their money.
- 27:21Speaker 18: And oh, by the way, if we get to the
- 27:22Speaker 18: final four, wouldn't it be cool? Does that happen in
- 27:27Speaker 18: every program? Hell No, I'll bet you ninety percent of
- 27:30Speaker 18: the programs in America that's not the case. But the
- 27:32Speaker 18: ones you're talking about, that's exactly the case.
- 27:36Speaker 6: Take a final question from the back, shehent tell if
- 27:37Speaker 6: you gree you hand hate you know chanton Jennings with
- 27:40Speaker 6: the Athletic and Spokane.
- 27:42Speaker 23: You said that page has a little bit of Diana
- 27:44Speaker 23: in her. I was hoping you could expand on that.
- 27:46Speaker 23: What about her honor off the court reminds you the
- 27:48Speaker 23: most of d.
- 27:53Speaker 18: Obviously there's a lot of similarities and there's so many
- 27:56Speaker 18: differences as well. They in the best sense of the word.
- 28:04Speaker 18: Number one, they are both exceptional con artists. They can
- 28:12Speaker 18: spin things so that it goes their way about ninety
- 28:16Speaker 18: nine point nine percent of the time. So they live
- 28:20Speaker 18: in that world, which I admire that because winners do that,
- 28:28Speaker 18: they have to be right, they have to be the top,
- 28:31Speaker 18: they have to be unchallenged. So they've got that going
- 28:37Speaker 18: for them. They're both extremely outgoing. They both enjoy other
- 28:42Speaker 18: people's company. They're accommodating to other people. They're respectful, they're
- 28:49Speaker 18: great team players. They're both generous to their teammates, both
- 28:55Speaker 18: on the court off the court. They have a flair
- 28:59Speaker 18: for the moment. They can summon up something that's needed
- 29:04Speaker 18: at the time when it's exactly needed. They take responsibility
- 29:12Speaker 18: for what happens. They're not afraid of the criticism that
- 29:18Speaker 18: might come if they fail. And I don't think anybody
- 29:25Speaker 18: loves being in the gym more than those two. And
- 29:30Speaker 18: if you ask them, where's their happy place? And they
- 29:31Speaker 18: could be any place in the world at any time,
- 29:34Speaker 18: they would tell you in a gym by myself doing
- 29:36Speaker 18: what I love to do. And that's the best way
- 29:43Speaker 18: I can describe both.
- 29:44Speaker 13: Of them in how do how do they compare? Now?
- 29:48Speaker 18: How are they? How are they different? That would be
- 29:50Speaker 18: a whole different press conference.
- 29:54Speaker 6: Want to thank you for your time today, coach.
- 29:56Speaker 13: Thank you.
- 29:58Speaker 6: A reminder for those in the room that the locker
- 30:01Speaker 6: room for Yukon is still open until two ten pm.
