- 2:05you know, any other sort of funniness where we're prodding
- 2:09were poking around. So this is the random heat and

- 3:21right now. I've not called it that before
- 3:23ever. But this is my space and it's
- 3:26good to be back in my space after having been on an amazing
- 3:31three day long or three nights. You know, bore days, three
- 3:36nights long retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North
- 3:41Carolina went to go visit Papa Olufsen Who is the master
- 3:49Craftsmen behind velvet ear Workshop.
- 3:51Him and his wife run an amazing store and have their Wares
- 3:58available on their website, as well as some if you're in the
- 4:01area. Go to any local crafting events
- 4:05where it's, you know, kind of heathen Centric or Pagan Centric
- 4:07focused, you know, that sort of thing in that area of North
- 4:10Carolina. If you ever see them there, I
- 4:12always encourage encourage people to get some things to
- 4:16accentuate, their their Heathen space or their Pagan space.
- 4:20It is a very, of course Norse or Germanic Pagan focused on the
- 4:26styles of things. As you probably already know at
- 4:30this point from hearing and watching my content via over to
- 4:33your Workshop. Is my number one, go-to place
- 4:38for ritual items such as rattles drums.
- 4:44And all that he makes wonderful Rune sets as well.
- 4:49Incense burners like, you know, this one, This was made by by
- 4:55Paul listen years ago, shortly after him and I first met.
- 5:01So you may be wondering why I'm talking all about, you know, be
- 5:04Elvis here workshop and you all listens.

- 6:36whatever suits your fancy so, as I mentioned last week, I was
- 6:44going to the Was known as 04 hoose which are the all listens.
- 6:50It's their place in the mountains of North Carolina.
- 6:54And so, yeah, my myself and member of My Tribe, the one of
- 7:00the original founding members of our tribe, Patrick marleau
- 7:04speaker, is accompanied me on this excursion, on this
- 7:08adventure, on this pilgrimage and I do I want to talk about
- 7:13some of the things that, you know, that occurred and and you
- 7:16know, Hopefully help encourage people from all walks of life,
- 7:22but especially pagans and heathens to find ways to
- 7:25accomplish the things that were accomplished here this past
- 7:29weekend with myself, you know, clearly the folk and and it will
- 7:34for who's so this, you know, this event this Retreat as it
- 7:39were has been referred to as Fire on the Mountain.
- 7:43So we do hope to have this become a regular Hurley
- 7:48recurring thing every year around the same time.
- 7:52Every year, we want to make this an annual sort of pilgrimage, an
- 7:56opportunity to maintain the relationships that we've
- 8:03established between the two, you know, entities as it were
- 8:08between clearly folk My Tribe and the household and unit known
- 8:14as roofer hoose. So the all of sins would love
- 8:18to, you know, do this on an annual recurring thing and this
- 8:23year was again a tremendous Just all-around experience.
- 8:28There was a lot that we accomplished and things that no
- 8:34matter who you are, nobody could probably compare.
- 8:40Like it's hard to put into words, the things that we
- 8:42experience because when you, when you have those, you know,
- 8:46personal interpersonal relationships and get a chance
- 8:52to hang out, and spend time and do things of of value of.
- 8:56Of meaning of purpose, you know, with people to put it into
- 9:01words, is sometimes difficult. So I'm just going to basically
- 9:05start from the from the beginning, and hope that, this
- 9:09retelling of things puts a spark in some people's minds to again,
- 9:14try to relive or recreate something of some of similar
- 9:19meaning in their own lives. So, The the trip started early
- 9:27early, last Thursday morning, a week ago today, as you guys are
- 9:30listening to this and watching this week ago today, the journey
- 9:34began, you know? So before the sun came up I went
- 9:39to pick up Patrick loaded. All the stuff up of his in my
- 9:43car and started the journey, you know, east-northeast ish to
- 9:50North Carolina. Smooth smooth driving,
- 9:53understand really crazy to report.
- 9:55But the anticipation was so, you know, palpable that, you know,
- 10:00the time kind of flew by, you know, like we were having
- 10:03conversation. It was a nice chance for us,
- 10:06Patrick. And I to just, you know, get
- 10:08mentally into that and prepared for what was about to happen
- 10:11because there was a lot planned, some of which specifics, I'm not
- 10:15going to talk about here, but a lot of what was planned for Russ
- 10:21involved, you know, drum circles, rattle circles.
- 10:25A sweat lodge session with with drumming and rattles and other,
- 10:30you know, primitive style, primitive, instruments primitive
- 10:33style instruments, like rattles and Bone pieces and and of
- 10:38course drums and all that. So there was there that was
- 10:41planned. There was hiking in the
- 10:44mountains hiking to Stone Mountain, an immersion ritual
- 10:49was planned meaning, we were going to Get ourselves fully
- 10:52submerged into frigid cold Waters that are from the
- 10:59mountains, you know? So we had all of this plan by
- 11:03Papa. I'll listen, you know, in his in
- 11:05his unit, his wife and I'm sure had a huge and I am sure she his
- 11:10wife had a, an enormous role to play in.
- 11:15All of this. She was the one who made sure
- 11:17that we got to you know, good meals.
- 11:22You know, had all of the accommodations needed, you know,
- 11:25if we needed you know, towels pillows blankets, you know,
- 11:29between the two of them couldn't have asked for a much better
- 11:33experience. As far as, you know, being guest
- 11:36in someone's home and having the host treat us with such dignity
- 11:40and respect and honor. It was a truly wonderful
- 11:44exchange of and tying of weird with each other.
- 11:48So, you know, the the plan to do all these things, you know, we
- 11:52were we were going to be arriving on Thursday get settled
- 11:56in With a meal, of course, you know, get our get ourselves
- 12:02acclimated into the space, have a meal, maybe soak in the hot
- 12:07tub. You know, have drinks.
- 12:10There was, there was a humble planned which we did do.
- 12:14I'm going to get into that in a moment and then the rest of the
- 12:19weekend day, you know, like Friday and Saturday.
- 12:22We're plans with hiking and other sort of spiritual.
- 12:27Activities. You know, they we had sacred
- 12:31smoke section, success sessions planned sections that two
- 12:36different sections of sessions, all sorts of things, but yeah,
- 12:39the sacred smoke. So like, you know, resin burning
- 12:41with like, you know, frankincense myrrh and cold
- 12:45copal and other sorts of sacred resins, you know, the sweat
- 12:50lodge, the immersion ritual and Hiking.
- 12:52So all of these things plus other stuff again that I'm not
- 12:54going to divulge specifically was Planned over, you know those
- 12:59those two days and then we were be departing and making our way
- 13:03back home on Sunday. So as many people may have
- 13:09remember at you know, last week there was a huge hurricane down
- 13:15in Florida hurricane the coal and there was a the storm system
- 13:19that came from that hurricane once it once it made landfall
- 13:24you know, traveled it's typical. You know, path of of hitting the
- 13:30southeast coming in when hooking back around towards the coast
- 13:33and going north Northeast. Which means that, you know, it
- 13:38was basically going to hit the section of North Carolina where
- 13:42we were staying by that weekend. And some of the plans that were
- 13:49made were to be outside. Camping and with with, you know,
- 13:57course grilling like campfire, like cooking on the campfire
- 14:00drumming all sorts of outdoor activities.
- 14:03So when we get there Thursday you know like we get settled in
- 14:06the weather was unseasonable. Warm.
- 14:09You know for being in the middle of November, essentially it was
- 14:14on seasonably warm well by the time the weekend closed out, you
- 14:20know, the temperature had dropped probably A good 30
- 14:23degrees. It was feeling much more like
- 14:27winter should feel or at least late fall.
- 14:31So we get there, Thursday, get settled in and early that
- 14:38evening is when the rain started to come in and the rain didn't
- 14:42quit until Essentially, you know, late Friday night into
- 14:47Saturday morning and then there was some more rain that came by
- 14:51Saturday. But we'll get to that here
- 14:53shortly. So we get in Thursday, get
- 14:54ourselves, you know, settled in. We get shown our respective, you
- 15:00know, living quarters for the weekend where we were going to
- 15:04be sleeping and all that. And then, you know it was it was
- 15:08about time for dinner at that point or pretty well close to
- 15:10it, you know, so we get the grand tour of the of the
- 15:14property and and, You know, have some drinks, we do some runic
- 15:22divination, you know, Papa Olufsen, qasim runes, I brought
- 15:25our tribal runes which he actually made made of elk bone.
- 15:31And, you know, we did a lot of that with some drinks and then
- 15:34there was, you know, a toast toast, toast, Oaths, and boasts
- 15:40for the sambal session. So, A lot of toast to the gods
- 15:47toast to ancestors. Boasts of great Deeds that have
- 15:53been accomplished and great things to be done, you know.
- 15:58No Oaths were sworn, you know? So there was no nothing of that
- 16:04magnitude being done but just a general you know sambal ritual
- 16:11of great joy to be shared. So so mighty words were spoken
- 16:16over our respective drinks. Papa listen had not ever.
- 16:21Or had the Highland Park Vikings, honor, single malt
- 16:24scotch and I believe he's a fan, a forever fan.
- 16:29We we polished off the bottle between the three of us that
- 16:32night. It's not that easy, it's not
- 16:35that hard to do. It's very easy to do by just two
- 16:40people with with a strong enough, you know, tolerance of
- 16:44to alcohol. There's two people could
- 16:46definitely polish off a bottle but between three of us, we make
- 16:49short order of it. Do you know?
- 16:52So we're getting into, you know, the the, the festivities of the
- 16:57night, you know, merrymaking and then it's, you know, let's go
- 17:00outside and Soak in the hot tub, which actually I'm going back up
- 17:07after after some will, you know, we retire to a section of
- 17:13Luther, who swear. Bob Olsen does, most of his work
- 17:17related stuff, so all of his crafting and everything is, in a
- 17:20van, is in a dedicated section of the house.
- 17:23And It's got a wood stove in there.
- 17:27It's got all of The Firs. That's its, you know it's like
- 17:30it's a wonderful place to be. It's like this is Heathen.
- 17:35Heaven almost in the way just, you know, The Firs the rooms,
- 17:38the Primitive style artwork and just everything.
- 17:42It's got a really neat feel and a great, you know, Vibe or
- 17:47whatever you want to call it to it.
- 17:50So, after some bull, right? We get our drinks and whatnot
- 17:53and we go downstairs too. To this place and of the house.
- 17:57And we do this, like, trying to find the right descriptions for,
- 18:05but a ceremony or ritual of sorts with the use of coal.
- 18:13So it was, you know, liquid coal bits that were added to, you
- 18:18know, liquid to make like this, this black smudge.
- 18:21Which all of us are the three of us mean, Patrick, and all of
- 18:26sudden, we marked ourselves all in the same or similar Fashions.
- 18:32There were marks done over our eyes for vision.
- 18:34I think it was eyes ears for hearing lips for speaking.
- 18:45Heart. Yeah, there was something that
- 18:47over the heart and then arms and so we'd all did that like all of
- 18:54a sudden Olufsen, and Patrick smudged.
- 18:58Me, I myself and all of a sudden smudge Patrick and them to
- 19:04smudge me. So, if you're wondering what I'm
- 19:06talking about, you're wondering what, you know, what does that
- 19:08even about? I had I did post some photos
- 19:13online. On Facebook and Twitter and
- 19:18Instagram. So I'll tell a little bit about
- 19:22that in those posts. So if you're not following me on
- 19:25those platforms, be sure that you do so that way you can be
- 19:28filled in with the with the specifics about it.
- 19:32But that point you know we we do that ceremony and that kind of
- 19:38set the tone for the weekend you know like that that was the
- 19:41thing that Kind of Kick this off into the Fire on the Mountain
- 19:47Retreat. And then at that point was when
- 19:51it was decided let's let's let's soak in the hot tub.
- 19:58So we go out there with our drinks and stuff and we soak in
- 20:01the hot tub and we get some of the residual, you know, coal ash
- 20:06or whatever, honors on ourselves, get that mainly
- 20:09cleaned off. And then one of the big points
- 20:12of the, of the whole trip that was planned for to start the the
- 20:19following day on Friday. We decided to kick off early and
- 20:23get started right then and there And all I'm going to say is that
- 20:28it was the most intense, shamanic ritual, the of shamanic
- 20:36magnitude that I've yet been involved in my first.
- 20:42Shamanic Journey was about a year ago last year and so so
- 20:50this shamanic Journey kind of You know, it indicated the the
- 20:58year had passed since the first one and it was time to revisit
- 21:03this. But again, the conditions were
- 21:05much different. The purpose behind it was much
- 21:08different everything about this time versus my first time,
- 21:12whereas You know, everything about it was different, so very
- 21:22profound the following day. Friday morning was you know, it
- 21:30was it was like being woken up from a dream in a way or being
- 21:35woken up from Being woken into I guess is probably a better word
- 21:43to describe it being being woken into a new person, a new
- 21:49experience because so much of what had happened the night
- 21:53before resulted in shamanic death and rebirth.
- 22:00So, you know, coming into life Friday morning for me was, was
- 22:05like, again, you know, waking into a totally New.
- 22:12Person a new environment, a new everything.
- 22:15And so I get my bearings and stuff, drinking some coffee just
- 22:18kind of figuring everything out figuring out life as I was at
- 22:26that point kind of like relearning things of the world
- 22:30around me down to the very simplest of things such as
- 22:37speech and being able to talk coherently and have you know
- 22:41conversations that that resulted in more than just grunts or nods
- 22:48or very basic forms of you know, communication it was it took a
- 22:52minute and it took a little while for me to get back to that
- 22:56state of normal as it were so we, you know, I hear the plans
- 23:01of we're gonna go to the waterfall, widow's Creek Falls
- 23:10and do our immersion ritual, and then dry off into clothes, for
- 23:16hiking and Hike Stone Mountain. As I mentioned earlier, right?
- 23:21We had, we had come into the state on the, on the coattails
- 23:23or just ahead of really the, the storm system that was Hurricane
- 23:31Nicole. So, of course, you know, we're
- 23:34further were far enough Inland where, you know, it was it was
- 23:37mainly just rain. That we were getting some high
- 23:40winds later on, but though, the rain is what we really got the
- 23:43brunt of so Friday, when I get up and we're, you know, talking
- 23:46about going into the river and And or the waterfall and then
- 23:50hike Stone Mountain. You know, there's it's raining
- 23:54as we're talking about this, you know, and we're looking at the
- 23:56radar and it's like, oh, you know, there's breaks here and
- 23:59there, so it won't be too bad. So anyway, we we leave the house
- 24:04and it's, you know, again, raining really good and we get
- 24:06to the Widow's Creek Falls location, and it's raining
- 24:13still, but at this point it's like, well, we're getting into
- 24:16the river, right? We're getting into the water.
- 24:19And it's, you know, raining from the sky, I was getting what's
- 24:23not going to matter here in a little bit because we're about
- 24:25to get really, really wet and cold.
- 24:29That's the other thing, it was that water was probably every
- 24:33bit of Probably not much lower than the low 50s but, you know,
- 24:3950 to 53 degrees. I'm going to guess.
- 24:42So we stripped down to just our boxers while it was from swim
- 24:45trunks, right? We had dry clothes over top and
- 24:48then swim trunks underneath. so, we Barefoot and and that was
- 24:56like I said, this was one of the many things that that occurred
- 25:01on this whole trip. That was just so Enriching, you
- 25:07know, and invigorating to stand out in the rain, in the
- 25:13mountains, when it's, you know, in this in probably low 60s, it
- 25:18wasn't very cold. But then to stand in the water
- 25:21that is in, you know, 50, some odd degrees and not to just
- 25:27stand in the water. But to climb Barefoot once
- 25:31again, climb rocks and climb the The base of the waterfall to
- 25:36reach. Like, there was this, the kind
- 25:38of like this. I in the, the the face of the
- 25:42waterfall that we climb too. Bare hands, bare feet.
- 25:49And then dumped our whole bodies like a whole upper body, just
- 25:52immersed ourselves in the waterfall that was coming down
- 25:55and it's in, it's icy coldness, you know, 50, some odd degrees.
- 26:01Talk about talk about an experience that will wake you
- 26:03up. Like I said before, you know, I
- 26:05was woken into a world that I had to kind of relearn some
- 26:08things or, or figure out my place.
- 26:10Get my bearings right. Being the passenger to widows.
- 26:16Widows Creek Falls. You know, all of this stuff is
- 26:19just going through my mind. I'm processing things and then
- 26:22to step into that water and get my head in, my upper body.
- 26:24Just everything. Immersed into this cold water.
- 26:27Talk about a shock of like now I'm awake.
- 26:31Now, I'm back. You know, it, it, it was like
- 26:35the most, it was kind of like a, like, a physical I don't know.
- 26:43Like not as you know how like a. Let's see what they call those
- 26:45things though. Defibrillators.
- 26:47Where they they shock you back to life.
- 26:51It was like that. But obviously without the The
- 26:55medical personnel. It was like, Nature's
- 26:56defibrillator. What does Creek Falls was?
- 27:00Nature's defibrillator. It is, it did give me a jolt.
- 27:05You know, takes your breath away.
- 27:06When you, when you get met with those conditions, the the cold,
- 27:11cold water. It like it shocks, you literally
- 27:16shocks, you takes your breath away.
- 27:18And for a minute, you're like, you know what, man?
- 27:21Right after that. Like within seconds I was like,
- 27:24yes, I I can take on, I can just run up this whole Mountain if I
- 27:27wanted to. So spend a little bit of time in
- 27:30the water. Kind of like riding the current
- 27:36because it you know what, I said it had been raining.
- 27:38So the water level was up, it was rushing really well and it
- 27:41like, you know, lands and into certain parts of at the base of
- 27:44the waterfall where they're like, you know, pools of deep
- 27:47water. So you can almost like slide.
- 27:50It's like a it's like Nature's water slide, you know, Nature's
- 27:53Splish Splash or or Splash Mountain or whatever amusement
- 27:57park of the water variety that you want to call it.
- 28:00But it's exactly that it was This is, this is great.
- 28:03You know, if it wasn't, you know, 50 degrees out there.
- 28:05I could see spending a whole day afternoon, just enjoying it, but
- 28:12this part wasn't about the enjoyment of it so much as it
- 28:15was about the what needed to be done.
- 28:20And what was what was interesting is you know, the the
- 28:22shamanic ritual that took place Thursday night, originally in
- 28:26the plans, it was that we were going to do that Friday night
- 28:30after the immersion Ritual after the hiking, after all of that.
- 28:37well, clearly that it was reversed and I'm so glad it
- 28:41worked out that way because You know, knowing what I went
- 28:45through Thursday night and into Friday morning.
- 28:51I don't know how well I don't know how it would have turned
- 28:53out. Had that been the thing I did
- 28:56after hiking, you know, several miles in the rain and in the
- 29:00cold and then being in the river and stuff, I don't know how
- 29:04things would have reacted, for me that way.
- 29:07So having it done the way we did.
- 29:08I felt was the way it needed to be done.
- 29:11It was, it was As it should have been.
- 29:15So, you know, we get out of the immersion ritual, dry off.
- 29:19Put our clothes back on, and then head stone mountain.
- 29:23And again, it's raining on and off on the way there.
- 29:26So it's like, well we just got out of this River, you know, dry
- 29:30it off a little bit. Now, we're about to From the
- 29:34looks of things. Get soaking wet again.
- 29:37Sure enough, we get to Stone Mountain, get to the trail that
- 29:40we're going to hike, you know, and we're still literally at the
- 29:44base of the mountain. We're not, you know, five
- 29:46minutes out of our out of the vehicle.
- 29:49And then, man, the bottom just opens up.
- 29:52And it's, pouring down, rain, not just pouring down rain, but
- 29:54like, sideways rain, you know, it's raining sideways.
- 29:59Yeah, it was raining sideways, you know?
- 30:03And I had a rain jacket on, but because it's Rio blow And around
- 30:07you and stuff. I, I got soaked to the bone
- 30:10about halfway up the mountain. You know, there were a couple of
- 30:15breaks or reprieves of the rain where, you know, the hood that I
- 30:19had on to keep my head somewhat dry.
- 30:21I could take off and let my head breathe and stuff.
- 30:25Because, again, like I said, it was, it was not a very cold day
- 30:31by temperature standards that, you know, you got to see you get
- 30:33wet and it's windy, you're going to feel cold.
- 30:35But it, it was, that was actually refreshing.
- 30:38Because hiking up this mountain when it was, you know, 60
- 30:40degrees or so. You build up a sweat, especially
- 30:43with like a rain jacket on. I was, I was I was hoping I was
- 30:46puffing, man. I was, I was like a man but you
- 30:51can't quit at that point, you know, like you like, well, I'm
- 30:53already committed to this. So the only thing to do is to
- 30:57keep going, you know, and we and we keep going, we make it to the
- 31:00summit, which is, you know, I think probably 3,000 feet or
- 31:04whatever elevation 3000 feet or more elevation.
- 31:11Thick with fog up there like it was we was while you we would
- 31:14stand on these, you know, Granite shelves of the rock
- 31:20Nova. Billion-year-old just to think
- 31:23that the age of this mass of land that we're standing on and
- 31:31and the things that it has been exposed to over, you know,
- 31:35Millions upon millions of years standing there yourself.
- 31:41Putting your feet on that Earth again, just just an invigorating
- 31:46and enriching experience and then you get up there and you
- 31:48know, and you're like 13 thousand, whatever feet above
- 31:51everything, and but you can't see 10 feet in front of you
- 31:54because the fog is so thick. And then with the wind whipping
- 31:58around you at the fog clears a bit.
- 32:00And then next thing, you know, here you are like I see a 600
- 32:04foot drop into the valley below and then the fog comes in and
- 32:08it's concealed again and you can't see straight in front.
- 32:10Nia just an alarming just I mean it was like whoa you know that's
- 32:15you know and then you look back back down the mountain and you
- 32:18see, you know, way way, way down there, a little little, little
- 32:23little bitty blip of a building or something where you started.
- 32:25It's like puts you puts lots of things into perspective, you
- 32:29know, you think you're this, you think you're that and then you
- 32:31see, you know, comparison and size and it does, it puts things
- 32:37a lot into his perspective. So you know, you're at the
- 32:39summit. I'm drenched like a rat.
- 32:42Just, you know, and now it's like, well, the only way to go
- 32:45back. The only way to go is back down
- 32:47the mountain. And, and it's like that
- 32:54Fleetwood Mac song. Climb the mountain.
- 32:58Now, turned around Landslide, write lyrics and Landslide.
- 33:05You've got to go back the way you came.
- 33:06There's no, you know, there's no, like, all right, I'll take
- 33:08the elevator back now or hey, can somebody come get me?
- 33:12Nope, you know, you got to walk your own, two feet back down the
- 33:16mountain. And again, it's continuing to
- 33:18rain my feet, my legs, my knees, just everything.
- 33:23I was like, I am just ready to stop all of this.
- 33:27But you can't give up. You can't quit.
- 33:29You got to keep pushing and we did made it back down the
- 33:33mountain, and I realize look like we're talking, like, think
- 33:38overall. We're talking a little bit over
- 33:403, less than three and a half miles from, for you.
- 33:44For the whole thing, round trip from the bottom, top top to
- 33:47bottom, round trip, less than three and a half miles but add
- 33:52to that. It's three and a half miles in
- 33:55the rain in the Wind and, you know, you're soaking wet, it
- 34:01puts things into perspective, you know, your morale gets
- 34:06beaten down when you're when you're feeling uncomfortable,
- 34:09and when you go through those ordeals, The first thing you
- 34:13want to do is find a way to, to be relieved of it.
- 34:18You know, it sucks out here. Getting rained on my feet hurt.
- 34:22My legs hurt, you know I'm out of breath.
- 34:26I'm sweating, I stink whatever. Like, all of these things that
- 34:30you're going through that make you feel just like like garbage.
- 34:35You know, that ordeal those ordeals and I've talked about
- 34:40this on this podcast and I talked about on other, you know,
- 34:44and other content before about ordeal breeding worth, I'm not
- 34:47the only one that's It said, it matter of fact, I'm not the
- 34:49first person to say it, but it's, it is an important thing
- 34:52to remember that adversity or deal.
- 34:54These are the things that make people find their worth and that
- 34:59make people worth something, they find that the cuts of their
- 35:03jib. They find what they're made of
- 35:06Through difficult deeds and through difficult times, we all
- 35:11do. But it's when you hear somebody
- 35:14talk about it, you know. So, like as listening to me,
- 35:16hear me talk about this ordeal of having to, you know, be
- 35:21subjected to, you know, frigid cold Waters and then climb a
- 35:26mountain in the wind and the rain.
- 35:27You know that all may sound like wow, that sounds incredible.
- 35:31Let me tell you at the moment and at the time I did not think
- 35:33it was incredible. I thought it was incredibly
- 35:35stupid and a matter of fact, I The thinking what kind of
- 35:38Maniacs are we to be doing something like this at the time
- 35:42that we're doing it? Because I remember I remember
- 35:44sitting here thinking like there's not even the animals
- 35:46that live out here, this stupid, you know, like they're over
- 35:50hunker down somewhere, you know underneath you know bushes or at
- 35:55the base of a rock lean-to or something like they found
- 36:00shelter and they're waiting this storm out there not out here,
- 36:04you know, exerting energy but That's what you, that's what you
- 36:08face in the moment, and it's okay to feel those feelings.
- 36:11It's okay to be mad. It's okay to be, you know,
- 36:14distraught. It's okay to feel the feelings
- 36:16that you're going to feel when you're in during adversity.
- 36:20And when you're going through ordeal just remember.
- 36:25When you get through it because it's going to, it's going to
- 36:27stop like, you know, it's for a moment when you get past it,
- 36:32when you get through it. You're going to feel such a
- 36:35reward after it because you're, you know, that that moment is
- 36:39what you need it to be tested. So we made it through the
- 36:45mountain, we survived, we survived the immersion, we get
- 36:49back to Old for Jesus, there was some time left for, you know,
- 36:53dinner to be finished, which was an amazing ham ham dinner, that
- 37:00that that night. And it was that Thursday night.
- 37:03Yeah, Thursday night was the was the ham and then Friday night
- 37:06was pot roast. So the pot roast had a little
- 37:09bit, you know of time left on it to cook in the Crock-Pot.
- 37:12So we killed some time by heading into town visited, the
- 37:16liquor store, grab the bite to eat for lunch and then came back
- 37:22and just kind of relaxed and got ready for the evening.
- 37:25Friday. Night's dinner was again a
- 37:27delicious pot roast that all of sins wife made in the crock pot
- 37:33all day A it cooked in that crock pot for like seven or
- 37:36eight hours. And then we went into the.
- 37:43Remember, if that was the that was a sweat lodge night, or was
- 37:49that the Yeah, that was the sweat lodge night because
- 37:54Saturday night was our camping. So yeah, we did our sweat lodge.
- 37:57We did, you know an hour in a room that we got heated up with
- 38:03because it's again, approve heated by a wood stove so we got
- 38:07the we got the wood stove up to It was hovering between like the
- 38:13high 80s to near 100 degrees for like an hour.
- 38:18You know, where you're just sitting there drumming and
- 38:20stuff. And I posted a video of one
- 38:24moment that I captured of that hour long session.
- 38:29So if you haven't seen it yet, it's here on the YouTube
- 38:31channel, so check it out. But yeah, we spent an hour in a
- 38:35nearly 100 degree room, sweating. yet again, another
- 38:40ordeal and trust me guys, like all of these things safety was
- 38:46was was key, right? So before we did anything, you
- 38:50know, all of sudden was very attentive to making sure we knew
- 38:57the safe ways to do things, right?
- 38:59If we slipped, if we fell or whatever on the mountain, you
- 39:01know, because of the hazards of the altitudes and whatever, you
- 39:06know, one wrong, step one wrong move.
- 39:09If you're not paying attention, and, you know, your ass is
- 39:12grass. You're toast.
- 39:13So, you know, making sure that we knew what to do.
- 39:16If we had a misstep, you know, same way with like the sweat
- 39:21lodge. You know, if we got to feeling
- 39:23too uncomfortable, we had an out, we could step outside, we
- 39:28could open the door, we could do whatever we needed to do to get
- 39:32some relief, but I'm happy to say that that was not needed,
- 39:36you know, we didn't need to call upon any of those lifelines as
- 39:40it were, you know, we ended Nerd.
- 39:42The ordeals that were presented to us and in the best way
- 39:47possible that we could have. Like I say we stayed the whole
- 39:50hour in the sweat lodge, we did our shamanic Journey Thursday
- 39:55night into Friday following that.
- 39:57We all of us immersed ourselves into, you know, frigid cold
- 40:02Waters and then dried off and immediately went for a three and
- 40:04a half mile hike in the wind rain.
- 40:08You know, slept really good. You know, on Friday obviously it
- 40:13was it was an early night for for all of us because we just
- 40:16accomplished so much. So we, you know, called it
- 40:20called it an early night. After that, was I say early was,
- 40:22you know, 9:30 10:00 p.m., it's like 9:30.
- 40:24I think called it a called it a night.
- 40:27The following morning, get up. And it's, you know, time for a
- 40:30bit of a relaxing, sort of less than strenuous hike.
- 40:36And at that point, The weather had cleared.
- 40:38So it was a beautiful sunny day, the temperature dropped a tad,
- 40:43and it was only going to continue to go down later on in
- 40:45the day. So, you know, we're down in like
- 40:47the 50s or so now I think Still kind of warm but not nearly as
- 40:52warm as the first day and a half that we had been there.
- 40:57And this time we go and we check out some of the sights off of
- 40:59the Blue Ridge. Parkway don't remember all the
- 41:03names of them, but they were, they were less.
- 41:05Like I say, strenuous hikes, you know, hikes across pastures, you
- 41:14know, not nearly as steep grade inclines and stuff to get to
- 41:18places. And it was, it was pop Olson and
- 41:22his wife, Patrick. And I saw the four of us did
- 41:23that. The the hike on Stone Mountain
- 41:26the day before it was just the three of us Cindy hadn't
- 41:30accompanied us. So we go off on that hike.
- 41:35It some really great photographs in and on the way back to the
- 41:42house, we stopped by a few locations to to check out New
- 41:48River. And the funny thing about New
- 41:51River is if you guys search or just Google search new, And you
- 41:56know, North Carolina would say New River is the name of the
- 42:00river but it is one of the oldest rivers in the world.
- 42:05It existed for blessed something like I don't know several
- 42:13hundred million years or longer and it is also one of the oldest
- 42:18sorry, one of the only rivers that flows south to North.
- 42:25So, so that's really cool. And again after the rain like
- 42:29the intent was to originally go to to New River.
- 42:34Get our feet In The Water wade, through it a little bit and feel
- 42:38those energies, but the river was moving quite fiercely.
- 42:41Again, from all the rain, that happened over Thursday and
- 42:44Friday, there was a lot of extra water flowing through there, so
- 42:50that wasn't that wasn't feasible but I did get a chance to get to
- 42:53the riverbank get my hands in there, splash some on my face
- 42:58and at least touch those Waters and be there by so that was
- 43:01special. And then when we get back to the
- 43:07to the estate 2004 hoose, it was time to set up our camp because
- 43:10we were going to be camping out there on the property that
- 43:14night. So as we're getting our camps
- 43:17and all that set up, the majority of the structures, like
- 43:21there was a couple of canopies. So basically all of that was
- 43:25done prior to us arriving, all the polis and made a really cool
- 43:28like fur or Evergreen lean-to. Be sure to keep the camp area
- 43:34dry. At least one side of it you know
- 43:36from the from the wind and stuff that would blow.
- 43:39And that way we had some sort of primitive shelter near the fire
- 43:44pit. When we were grilling if in case
- 43:46it did rain which it did so but but it fortunately did not start
- 43:53until we at least got all of our tents and stuff set up but once
- 43:58it did start like we had we had just brought up a bunch of dry.
- 44:03Wood to start the campfire with. And we had just started the
- 44:06campfire and then we start feeling a little water droplets
- 44:11from the sky, which turned into not like a torrential downpour,
- 44:14but there were moments of it. Raining pretty good.
- 44:18So I got, you know, all that dry wood that we brought up it got
- 44:21wet. Papa, listen stayed Vigilant
- 44:26over the fire with this, like massive beach umbrella to try to
- 44:30keep the the wood as dry as he possibly could and and keep the
- 44:34the camp clarifier area dry as well.
- 44:38But the temperature went from like I said being in like the
- 44:4160s and 50s over those days to be in like down in the 40s and
- 44:4430s and then ultimately I think it got down until the 20s or at
- 44:50least hot. You know, high 20s upper 20s low
- 44:5230s. So and windy like extremely
- 45:01windy, there was probably gusts of you know, 30 to 40 mile an
- 45:05hour winds that would come through.
- 45:09So we sat out there, you know they did it eventually stopped
- 45:12raining about the time that it got dark you know surrounds six
- 45:16ish maybe 7:00. The rain has finally stopped.
- 45:23I think it stopped even a little bit beforehand because I
- 45:25remember getting up there sitting down and it being, you
- 45:28know, not not raining anymore. You can see bits of blue sky.
- 45:32So by the time it got dark, we were, we were not having to deal
- 45:36with rain anymore, but it got cold quick.
- 45:40Yet another ordeal right? The real the unexpected rain, we
- 45:43had to put up with and then the cold so You know, I had full
- 45:50intentions of sleeping in the camp in the tent that was raised
- 45:55that night and had it not been for just you know 40 mile an
- 45:58hour gusts of when I would have because I was bundled up really
- 46:01good. I had, you know, blankets and
- 46:05sleeping bags and Furs and all kinds of stuff to keep me warm.
- 46:10But that wind was just jarring and knowing that I had, you
- 46:15know, to get ready and leave the following day and I wanted to
- 46:17make sure that I got The best chance of getting good rest.
- 46:21So feeling like a, I got nothing else to prove.
- 46:25I took my butt into into the house and lay down on the futon
- 46:28where I've been sleeping the last, you know, couple of
- 46:30nights. So and there were some moments
- 46:36throughout that night because of the wind like things getting
- 46:39knocked around outside and noises that I wasn't familiar
- 46:43with. You know, I still what getting
- 46:45woken up a few times throughout the night, made it made it made
- 46:48an interesting. In sleeping experience but
- 46:52Sunday morning rolls around, I get up you know loaded up and
- 46:58everything and we enjoy ourselves, you know.
- 47:05Shopping for some vitamins for like, I got some stuff from My
- 47:09Wife and Patrick got some stuff for himself, you know, some of
- 47:15the feel of a tear items, one of which is actually right here.
- 47:23The other one is over here. I haven't forgotten.
- 47:26I haven't forgotten, I'm not going to I'm going to get it
- 47:28here in just a minute. But this one is a really cool
- 47:31bone sax. and it's half of a Was this a whatever the part of
- 47:41like. So this is an elk bone, by the
- 47:42way. But it's the part of the Elks
- 47:45bone. That's that is like the forearm.
- 47:48It's not called The Format Cannon, maybe, Cannon bone?
- 47:51I don't know, but it's the part of the bone that's like right,
- 47:55you know, right here on the arm before they get to the to the
- 47:58hoof and it's normally like I get like I said again, the this
- 48:03is half of it. It's split half down the middle.
- 48:09Which is a very common practice in a lot of primitive tribes
- 48:15because you get more use out of the animal.
- 48:17If you You know, use parts of it and then so in other words
- 48:22instead of having one limb that you would make one knife or
- 48:25whatever out of you have again half and then you have another
- 48:29half. So you have two knives instead
- 48:30of one or two utensils, instead of just one.
- 48:33But the tip is, is super sharp. You're not going to, I don't
- 48:37think really be able to see it so well, but it is.
- 48:42It's a if I were to really poke somebody good with this, they
- 48:47would probably draw blood. And even the Edge, like the edge
- 48:50is not. you know, razor sharp but you know you again you
- 48:56stabbed somebody with that or whatever you poke somebody,
- 48:58whether it's definitely going in and it's really cool like the
- 49:02texture of the of the bone Right there.
- 49:08Like it's going to what do you call it?
- 49:14It's not going to focus that well, but this is this was a
- 49:17really neat gift. and then, This thing behind me.
- 49:27Don't know how well this is gonna.
- 49:30Work. So this is this is a cool story.
- 49:36Friday was my was my was my birthday.
- 49:37I want to show you what this isn't a man, you probably
- 49:39already know. Obviously, I moved out of the
- 49:40way. You know what it is.
- 49:41I'm gonna tell you the story behind it.
- 49:43So, Friday was my birthday right and Thursday.
- 49:50Papa, all of Simmons and his wife presented, this gift to me
- 49:55and this is what they presented me with at first This is
- 50:02obviously a drum beater. It's got a wool beat her head.
- 50:07This is Holly branch and this is coyote fur, you know.
- 50:14So they present this to me and I'm like, alright cool.
- 50:19You know, I got another, I got a drum beater for my drum, which
- 50:22is, you know, not my drum but the the drum for our tribe
- 50:27they're really Folk. So I'm like cool.
- 50:29I've got another beer for that drunk.
- 50:33And it was funny because as they're presenting this to me,
- 50:37Cindy was like, we need a drumroll.
- 50:40So, the next thing they grabbed is this Okay. now again, Only my
- 50:56head down for a minute at this stuff.
- 51:00I can't even get it all in frame here and guys.
- 51:03But anyway, they picked this up and, you know, office and Cindy.
- 51:08Hold each side of it and Patrick holds a side of it.
- 51:12And they start little bit of, you know, just drumming with
- 51:16their hands like drum roll. Please, you know, and they go
- 51:20well, here you go. And I'm like, cool and I'm
- 51:22thinking this was it because they go.
- 51:23Here you go. And I go well, great, I got this
- 51:25beater and they go. Yeah, well, yeah, but you need
- 51:29something to play it with. Or play on it.
- 51:31You know, they need you need something too.
- 51:34Play it on and then they like all look down.
- 51:37Of course, Patrick had no idea but like popovers and you look
- 51:40down. I'm like No, right.
- 51:44And so what we've got here, folks.
- 51:50Is 38 inches around. Of goat skin goat hide drum.
- 51:57So I don't know how well this is going to Resonate on the
- 52:05microphone. I don't know if this is going to
- 52:08don't know if this is going to work or not.
- 52:09So just kind of bear with me a minute.
- 52:16See, if this see if it sounds any certain way.
- 52:19But anyway, again, I don't know if
- 52:47it's coming through on the mic or not.
- 52:56If not, they'll be more footage that I can try to share actually
- 53:01have some, some something planned for this, this coming
- 53:05weekend. My wife supposed to Go with me
- 53:12outside and maybe get some, get some footage.
- 53:18This is not going to work out. I'm trying to figure out how I
- 53:20can get this. Like, I had it before.
- 53:27Maybe that'll work. All right.
- 53:31Put that there. So there you go.
- 53:35That was quite an ordeal another ordeal.
- 53:40There's that word again or deal. So anyway, 38-inch goat, hide
- 53:47drum for my 38 trip around the Sun.
- 53:54To say that I was flabbergasted, I was left speechless.
- 53:58I was brought to tears, I didn't know what to think.
- 54:03I didn't know what to say. because I've had, I've been,
- 54:08I've been so Into the drumming thing recently.
- 54:13But that specifically like a big big drum like that, that just
- 54:17sounds like Rolling Thunder when you play it.
- 54:22I've been having my eye on one of them for a while and you know
- 54:28to have one now as a gift for my birthday.
- 54:35There's I still get like emotional just thinking about it
- 54:37and knowing, you know, not even really fully appreciating the
- 54:44kind of work that goes into making these things but just
- 54:47knowing The caliber of the gift that I was given, you know, such
- 54:53a high high honor and I intend to to use this in a lot of
- 54:59future content as best. I'm able to in the area that I'm
- 55:04able to do it and you know, get the river nearby that I like to
- 55:07go to. And I think that playing this
- 55:09drum on that river is going to make for some really good
- 55:14content that I hope you guys will look forward to seeing.
- 55:17So You know, to try and condense four days or three and three,
- 55:23three three nights four days of stuff.
- 55:26Into just one video, One podcast.
- 55:30Those are, those are the highlights, but I guess, you
- 55:32know, I could sit here and tell you guys all about how great the
- 55:36trip was and how much fun I had and how much fun Patrick had and
- 55:41how much we just had fun with the Olaf sins.
- 55:47But what I wanted to do is, I wanted to tell you guys about
- 55:49this experience, because an experience, like this doesn't
- 55:54come very often for many people. As a matter of fact, there will
- 55:57be people that will never experience anything even
- 56:01remotely close to what I experienced this past weekend.
- 56:07You know, But what I want people to know is that it takes work.
- 56:15It takes effort, it takes ordeal to make something like this
- 56:20happen. If it sounds so amazing.
- 56:22If you're listening to this and you're like, I don't know, you
- 56:28know, I feel like I was there through your retelling of it,
- 56:31you know. A lot of times when you tell a
- 56:32story, you try to Provide people with enough details, that put
- 56:39them in the position that you were in when retelling the
- 56:42story. And I hope that at some points
- 56:44in time, you know, you kind of felt like you were on that
- 56:47Journey with me and but to realize that that didn't come
- 56:53without a cost, it didn't come without sacrifice, it didn't
- 56:56come without hard work. It didn't come without ordeal,
- 57:00but the reward for it, you know, don't get don't give up.
- 57:05Up. If you're going through
- 57:06something that you have a goal in mind, you have like I want to
- 57:10accomplish this and you know, you know, in your heart that
- 57:13it's going to happen and then you run into these snafus you
- 57:18know you get you get rained on you, get You know, he gets
- 57:24soaking wet, you get cold, you get sweaty, you get miserable,
- 57:27you get upset, whatever. The roadblock is, that happens
- 57:31in your life. Don't let that deter you from
- 57:34continuing on with the with the project, with the thing that
- 57:38you're doing, see it through. You're going to feel so rewarded
- 57:46after the fact, if for no other reason, other than that, you
- 57:50know, you can say I did it. I made it through this ordeal.
- 57:54I made it through this Challenge and now I'm better equipped to
- 57:57handle the next challenge. That comes my way over the next
- 58:00ordeal that you know, that that's that I've been I'm faced
- 58:03with It's the only way to grow is.
- 58:09It's the only way that you're going to grow, you're not going
- 58:12to grow in times of ease, in times of, you know, relaxation
- 58:19growth happens. When?
- 58:23Times are tough. You're growing in those moments
- 58:26and you made, it may feel like you're getting torn down.
- 58:29It may feel like you're getting beat down and there may be
- 58:32moments in there. May be times when that that is
- 58:35literally, what is necessary in order for that growth to happen.
- 58:40I've used the analogy before that trees.
- 58:45Bushes, plants, flowers, Etc. You know, require pruning from
- 58:50time to time in order for, for for strong growth to occur.
- 58:55You know, you start letting things just not get take care of
- 58:59if you're not out there pruning every now and then if you're not
- 59:02taking care of yourself in that way and allowing the storms that
- 59:05that need to come through and, you know, glean a little bit and
- 59:10take away some of the the dead unnecessary matter.
- 59:17Then you're just going to be stuck.
- 59:19You're not going to be gross. You're not going to be allowed
- 59:20to grow. If it hadn't been for.
- 59:27All of the things you know and it didn't just start when we
- 59:32left and and headed out there on Thursday it didn't just start.
- 59:36Then there's been ordeal there's been things going on leading up
- 59:43to this most recent event Fire on the Mountain.
- 59:48Right there were things going on and leading up to that which
- 59:52were tests and, and part of the ordeal as well.
- 59:55You know, 100%. But all of us knew that
- 1:00:05regardless of the challenges, regardless of how difficult
- 1:00:08things could be made, we were this was going to happen and it
- 1:00:14was going to happen in the way that it was meant to happen.
- 1:00:16And it was woven, and in the threads for it, to happen this
- 1:00:21way. But we had a part in weaving,
- 1:00:24those threads, the threads weren't just sitting there ready
- 1:00:28to be, Played with, you know, part of that work landed with
- 1:00:34us. Because if I hadn't done the
- 1:00:37things with my car to get it ready, we wouldn't have been
- 1:00:39going in my car. You know, if Patrick didn't make
- 1:00:42the preparations through his job and finances or whatever, right?
- 1:00:46Same way with me. Like if we hadn't made those
- 1:00:48preparations and accommodations, we wouldn't have made it out
- 1:00:52there. If Papa Olufsen, didn't do some
- 1:00:57of the crafting work. And stuff to help with, you
- 1:01:02know, funding this whole trip, you know, doing the things that
- 1:01:07were needed there, it wouldn't have happened just like
- 1:01:13everything about the trip. Proved to me that ordeal really,
- 1:01:19and truly does breed worth sharing space with him and his
- 1:01:24wife and seeing his kids for a little while to, but just
- 1:01:29sharing that expect that the experience exchanging of gifts,
- 1:01:33exchanging of knowledge, wisdom, love, you know, all of it.
- 1:01:43You can't replicate that. By talking with somebody online,
- 1:01:48not even a phone call. You know, you can only get so
- 1:01:52far. You can only reach a certain
- 1:01:54point with interactions like that.
- 1:01:57I know, we are modern heathens and we are, you know, practicing
- 1:02:02old ways in modern times, many of us are But part of the, of
- 1:02:10the part of the old ways that need not die, are the things
- 1:02:12that we experienced. With each other, you know.
- 1:02:20Encouraging each other being there for each other.
- 1:02:23So that way we don't fall or slip in the river, you know, and
- 1:02:26we're, when we're crawling, Barefoot bare hands on slippery
- 1:02:29rocks. Finding our footing, but knowing
- 1:02:32that a brother is reaching out his hand or his arm to catch you
- 1:02:36for you to hold on to that way. You know that I'm not in this
- 1:02:40alone. I'm here with my with my Kent
- 1:02:42with Mike. If I'm here with a brother, I'm
- 1:02:45here with family in the most Pure sense of the word family,
- 1:02:52you know, and that's and that's where I go back to hold the
- 1:02:55whole like that talked about before familial titles and
- 1:02:58calling people brother this and brother that like dude, I'm
- 1:02:59sorry, but I'm not going to call you brother unless I've shared
- 1:03:03some moments like I've shared. Like I had this past weekend,
- 1:03:07you know, or something similar that.
- 1:03:08I can't. I can't bring myself to doing
- 1:03:11that just because I think you're cool.
- 1:03:13Just because you think I'm cool. Just because we share a similar
- 1:03:17belief system in. In, you know, northern European
- 1:03:22paganism. Without content without without
- 1:03:29the in person without the boots on the ground, without the
- 1:03:32Grassroots level experiences. Family, is that that doesn't
- 1:03:40exist. It doesn't happen without it.
- 1:03:43You've got to have it. And again, not taking away from
- 1:03:46what value there is in long-distance relationships,
- 1:03:50because modern heathens, you know, modern times where we got
- 1:03:54modern amenities modern conveniences.
- 1:03:56It's it's part of the whole bit. We We do things that are a bit
- 1:04:04archaic maybe at times or feel archaic, but again there's
- 1:04:08purpose behind it, you know. People say well, why worry
- 1:04:13about, you know, heating with wood, when you could just, you
- 1:04:16know, crank up, your electric furnace or whatever.
- 1:04:19It's like, that's not the point. It's, unless you've experienced
- 1:04:25it yourself, unless you've gone through those things, you know,
- 1:04:28I don't know. To me, it's like a meal taste.
- 1:04:31So much better when you know you've earned it.
- 1:04:32When you've worked hard to earn a meal, the meal tastes so much
- 1:04:37better. Tell you right now.
- 1:04:39The first thing that I ate after the big ordeal Thursday night
- 1:04:45into Friday morning, the first thing I ate after all that was
- 1:04:48great trail mix, you know, and and beef jerky. but I tell you
- 1:04:54what, I felt like I was dying on a five-course michelin-star
- 1:04:59meal. You know things that are
- 1:05:02normally just you know that the types of snack foods that you
- 1:05:04sit and you know, Nosh on when you're watching a movie those
- 1:05:09items tasted like the best thing I ever ate and water, you know.
- 1:05:17I drink water every day but the water that that moment was like
- 1:05:21the best water I've ever tasted, you know.
- 1:05:23Like those things again, you're not going to experience that by
- 1:05:27hearing about it by talking about it.
- 1:05:30You know, I've had people respond to some things that I
- 1:05:33posted recently and being a bit. I don't know if they're just
- 1:05:37trolling or genuinely curious, but like, you know, and I talk
- 1:05:41about immersion rituals in the shamanic ritual and what's an
- 1:05:45immersion ritual? Who, what's the shamanic?
- 1:05:47ritual, who well, if you have to ask me then I then then half of
- 1:05:53me is Thinking that you're just, you know, you're just trolling,
- 1:06:00you're just trying to get a rise because then it and then again,
- 1:06:08you know, the parts of me are like, well, there may be
- 1:06:09genuinely people who just don't know what I'm talking about.
- 1:06:13And so, either way, it's engagement right on the
- 1:06:16platforms. It's the thing that I always ask
- 1:06:19people to do is hey, like comment, share and subscribe.
- 1:06:21You know, I don't care what you comment, okay.
- 1:06:24What'd you say It's an engagement.
- 1:06:26It's something that engages me and engages everybody and puts
- 1:06:32something out on the table for potential discussion to or
- 1:06:35conversation to stem from it. You know, because I'm not the
- 1:06:38only one that looks at these comments.
- 1:06:41Other people seem to. So my response is your comments,
- 1:06:45you know, these are the things that can spark conversation,
- 1:06:48amongst people and get our brains in gear and thinking
- 1:06:51about things along the snake. Along these along these lines,
- 1:06:54and in the Nature to experience what I'm talking about for
- 1:06:59yourselves, because I can sit here and talk for an hour or
- 1:07:02more about how much fun I had. But that's not really what this
- 1:07:06was about. It was about a retelling of the
- 1:07:09most one of the most impactful and profound experiences of my
- 1:07:12life that I shared with other people.
- 1:07:15And and it was one of the most profound experiences of their
- 1:07:20lives individually. And then collectively, because
- 1:07:24we were all there together. Together with each other and we
- 1:07:27all did things to support one another and we experience these
- 1:07:31you know, challenges and or deals together.
- 1:07:34The the experience was not just profound for us individually but
- 1:07:37it made for a profound experience collectively.
- 1:07:40And it's and it's something that we'll never Escape our memories.
- 1:07:45We will live with These Memories Forever.
- 1:07:48They will be a part of us and they are apart of us forever.
- 1:07:54There's one other thing that I wanted to show you guys maybe
- 1:07:57live. Sort of life.
- 1:08:06So you guys know, the Heron is my feeling I've talked about
- 1:08:10this in on recent episodes of the podcast before and all of a
- 1:08:15sudden. Papa, all of a sudden made this
- 1:08:18shamanic ritual masks for me in the style of a heron.
- 1:08:23These are goose feathers, I believe his coyote fur and it's
- 1:08:28an animal skin face mask. But You know, the the
- 1:08:34representation of the Heron and I'm just going to put it on so
- 1:08:38you guys can see see it in real time, you know I can do this.
- 1:08:47I can't even do this, I wanted to, you know, but I don't know
- 1:08:56how good my voice is coming through here, because there's
- 1:08:58not a real mouthpiece here. But yeah, imagine if I did my
- 1:09:01podcast just like this all the time, Talking like this and
- 1:09:08such. So anyway, there's there's that
- 1:09:14too, Patrick got one and kind of like in the form of the shape of
- 1:09:19an owl. Getting a phone call.
- 1:09:27As I'm recording a podcast. Never fails.
- 1:09:29I'll call him back later. But yeah, guys, again, why am I
- 1:09:35talking about it? Why am i showing you all this
- 1:09:36stuff? It's because Yes.
- 1:09:39I mean it was a great time and I do love talking about it, but I
- 1:09:42hope that the experience that I shared the retelling of it is
- 1:09:48something that inspires you to find a way to experience
- 1:09:54something of similar profoundness.
- 1:09:58You know, it may not be a shamanic Retreat for four days,
- 1:10:03three days, whatever. Three nights in the Blue Ridge.
- 1:10:06Mountains of North Carolina, Maybe it's a small camping trip.
- 1:10:10Maybe, maybe it's a one-night Rich, you know, get away in in
- 1:10:15in the woods or something nearby.
- 1:10:17Or maybe you take a vacation day you know and have a long weekend
- 1:10:22away in the in nature, somewhere, whatever it is,
- 1:10:25right? Whatever it is that you're able
- 1:10:27to do, do it with somebody that you have strong ties with or
- 1:10:33that you can have strong ties with find a way to Build those
- 1:10:38bonds with people and don't give up just because it gets
- 1:10:42difficult just because it gets hard, just because there's a
- 1:10:44challenge, you know about it. The challenge is what makes it
- 1:10:49great, the hard. Is what makes it great not to
- 1:10:53be, you know, funny how that's what she said.
- 1:10:57But, you know, it makes me think of like, you guys have ever seen
- 1:11:01that movie A League of Their Own.
- 1:11:05You know, Gina Davis Rosie O'Donnell Tom Hanks.
- 1:11:10You know. Where she quits?
- 1:11:17She quits the team. And Tom Hanks his characters
- 1:11:22giving her, you know, a bunch of crap for it.
- 1:11:26And she just kind of says, you know, it just got too hard.
- 1:11:31I couldn't handle it anymore. I quit because it just got too
- 1:11:35hard. And Tom Hanks, his character
- 1:11:39says, It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone
- 1:11:46would do it in the hard. Is what makes it great?
- 1:11:51It is man. It's what makes things so great
- 1:11:55is the challenges that go along with it.
- 1:12:00Because it conditions us guys, If It prepares us for those
- 1:12:03times and then when we get a breathing when we get a chance
- 1:12:06to breathe and get that Breathing Room, you know, we
- 1:12:10feel almost all the more accomplished for having gone
- 1:12:13through it. It's like, yeah.
- 1:12:14Now I can earn this steak. I can earn this drink.
- 1:12:18I can earn this rest So go out and earn it.
- 1:12:23You know, you're going to suffer through life.
- 1:12:24Anyways might as well suffer in a tactical way and do things
- 1:12:28that are gonna prepare you for greatness.
- 1:12:31So I do hope that you guys enjoyed this episode of me, just
- 1:12:35talking about my own experience. Maybe one day I'll get Patrick
- 1:12:40or all the sudden on here either together or separately to kind
- 1:12:45of recap and talk about it together.
- 1:12:46It would be great to get their thoughts and everything about it
- 1:12:49because it's more than just me sharing it from my angle.
- 1:12:52But yeah, in the meantime, you know, you guys have got this.
- 1:12:57And yeah, so thank you so much for listening and watching
- 1:13:00today. Wait to see what happens with
- 1:13:03next week's episode. I know we're coming up on some
- 1:13:05holiday times of the year. I got the Thanksgiving holiday
- 1:13:08in the u.s. coming up and then for so many heathens here in
- 1:13:11about a month and a half, you guys have got your, you know,
- 1:13:15midwinter celebration is coming up.
- 1:13:17So we'll definitely see what's on the plate for next week and I
- 1:13:21know I still have some viewer request to go through.
- 1:13:26So, I haven't forgotten if you put a comment or a request out
- 1:13:30there and I haven't got to it yet, maybe just put it down in
- 1:13:33the comments or whatever below or you can write in or call in.
- 1:13:36But I do still have some more to go through from a recent post on
- 1:13:42the Facebook page so we'll be getting over to that here soon.
- 1:13:48Yeah I think that pretty well wraps it up so you guys have
