- 0:02Speaker 1: He was her eyes. Hey everybody, it's Wally Bates. Welcome
- 0:06Speaker 1: back to Rideshare Revival. I picked up Sheila and her
- 0:11Speaker 1: son Devin from Kroger the other day. As they made
- 0:14Speaker 1: their way toward my car, I could tell immediately that
- 0:18Speaker 1: Sheila was visually impaired. Devin was guiding his mom with
- 0:22Speaker 1: helping with the grocery cart. They loaded everything in the
- 0:26Speaker 1: back and climbed in and we started talking as always
- 0:29Speaker 1: and about everything in the world. Eventually, I asked Sheila
- 0:32Speaker 1: about her vision. I said, was this something recent? She said, no.
- 0:38Speaker 1: She's been blind since the birth of her twin boys,
- 0:41Speaker 1: Devin and Evan. Devin is 11 now. Think about that.
- 0:48Speaker 1: For his entire life, helping mom navigate a world she
- 0:54Speaker 1: can't see has simply been part of their kids, really.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We talked about Grocery shopping. Something most of us don't
- 1:03Speaker 1: even think about. You take it for granted, really. See
- 1:06Speaker 1: what you want. You grab it. You put it in
- 1:07Speaker 1: the cart. You move to the next aisle. But Sheila
- 1:11Speaker 1: relies on Devin to help her find what she needs.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And today, she was proud of him. He was really
- 1:18Speaker 1: good today. Apparently, the last shopping trip hadn't gone so smoothly.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Devin had a little attitude. Okay, he's 11. She told
- 1:29Speaker 1: me the bus driver had pulled him aside and had
- 1:31Speaker 1: a talk with him. Basically tell him, son, you got
- 1:35Speaker 1: a tough job. His mom needs him. And even though
- 1:39Speaker 1: it's been a lot for an 11-year-old boy, he's got
- 1:44Speaker 1: an important role in his family. Apparently, something clicked because
- 1:49Speaker 1: this trip was different. Today, he was great. And I
- 1:54Speaker 1: love watching the two of them together, the young boy
- 1:57Speaker 1: guiding his mother, helping with the groceries and helping her
- 2:01Speaker 1: find the car, doing things 11-year-olds really don't even think about.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And it's funny because I wanted to help and asked
- 2:09Speaker 1: twice if they needed assistance or something. And they wanted
- 2:13Speaker 1: to be independent. You could tell Devin wanted to take
- 2:16Speaker 1: care of her. And when we arrived, I said, before
- 2:20Speaker 1: you guys go, let me pray for you. And I
- 2:21Speaker 1: took Sheila's hand. And then I asked Devin to put
- 2:24Speaker 1: his hand on top of ours. And I prayed for Sheila,
- 2:28Speaker 1: for healing, for vision. I prayed for Devin and Evan,
- 2:34Speaker 1: for strength, for patience, for courage. Because these two young
- 2:39Speaker 1: men have been given responsibilities most kids their age don't
- 2:43Speaker 1: ever have to worry about. I asked God to help them,
- 2:47Speaker 1: to strengthen them, and continue shaping them into the men
- 2:51Speaker 1: he created them to be. When we finished, I couldn't
- 2:55Speaker 1: stop thinking about Devin. Last time, he didn't quite get
- 2:59Speaker 1: it right. Today, he was great. Maybe there's something in
- 3:06Speaker 1: that for the rest of us. We're not going to
- 3:08Speaker 1: get it right every day. Sometimes we need somebody to
- 3:11Speaker 1: pull us aside, someone, a little correction, another chance just
- 3:17Speaker 1: to be given. And then tomorrow comes another opportunity. Another
- 3:21Speaker 1: chance to do better. Another chance to be great today.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Rideshare Revival. There's hope at every turn. These are my
- 3:32Speaker 1: prayers from the road. If you would like prayer, I'd
- 3:35Speaker 1: love to pray for you. Send me over a line.
