- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: mass Appeal continues to drop clues about the next rollout,
- 0:11Speaker 1: my review of the new rock Marciano album six five six,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and the Internet debates Shadakiss versus Common. I don't know
- 0:23Speaker 1: why the Internet does what they.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Do, but we're gonna talk about it. Let's do it.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Welcome to jip Hop Now Podcast. Did you from the future?
- 0:37Speaker 2: You know what the STUDI your ass out so disrespect
- 0:44Speaker 2: the leg leg hip hop is say to stay. Let's
- 0:49Speaker 2: get rapul to the business. What up, y'all?
- 0:51Speaker 1: I am your host Vegas and This hip Hop Now
- 0:54Speaker 1: Podcasts a podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up
- 0:57Speaker 1: on all things hip hop, music and culture that happened
- 1:02Speaker 1: throughout the week. First and foremost, big shout out to
- 1:05Speaker 1: those listening on audio form have been some of you.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Maybe you've been listening for ten years straight. I appreciate you.
- 1:14Speaker 1: If you listen on Apple podcasts, please review the podcast there.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'm not sensitive if you feel like the podcast is dope,
- 1:23Speaker 1: but I'm gonna need him to look in the other direction.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Whatever it is. I don't know, leave a review on
- 1:30Speaker 1: Apple podcasts. It helps with the exposure of the podcast
- 1:35Speaker 1: to people who would also like this kind of content, right,
- 1:40Speaker 1: big shout out to those also right here on YouTube
- 1:44Speaker 1: you subscribing to the channel, whether you came here because
- 1:47Speaker 1: you liked shorts, or you came here because you like
- 1:51Speaker 1: the special content I do on this channel, which we
- 1:55Speaker 1: have some of that going on, or you like this
- 1:58Speaker 1: very podcast here, the OG podcast, the News and Perspectives
- 2:03Speaker 1: podcasts hip hop.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Now I appreciate you all.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And also obviously the biggest shout out to those who
- 2:13Speaker 1: have supported the podcast monetarily, monetarily whatever with money, okay,
- 2:19Speaker 1: over the course of those ten years, whether it's through
- 2:22Speaker 1: Patreon or right here on YouTube by becoming a member
- 2:28Speaker 1: obviously if you don't know, all proceeds go right back
- 2:33Speaker 1: in to the production of this podcast. Right, that's the
- 2:39Speaker 1: best way for me to improve the podcast.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Obviously, I got.
- 2:43Speaker 1: My own money, so I spend my money to pay
- 2:45Speaker 1: for software, to pay for four K camera, right, to
- 2:50Speaker 1: stay up to date my internet speeds everything, and promoting
- 2:54Speaker 1: the podcast because in a lot of ways for those
- 2:57Speaker 1: who just who don't know, when you promote your podcast,
- 3:01Speaker 1: obviously you have social media accounts, your post, Hey, it's
- 3:04Speaker 1: a new episode and all that good stuff, but that
- 3:06Speaker 1: doesn't always guarantee that you'll reach the demographic you want
- 3:11Speaker 1: to reach for your type of content. So sometimes you
- 3:14Speaker 1: got to pay for that, and whether it's paying through
- 3:17Speaker 1: meta with Facebook and Instagram or even going over to
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Devil and we're gonna be there for a while Twitter.
- 3:30Speaker 1: We don't call it X over here. I don't care
- 3:32Speaker 1: what it says, but you know what I'm saying, like
- 3:37Speaker 1: these things don't do you know, this content doesn't create itself.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, there are a
- 3:45Speaker 1: lot of people who have had input over the years,
- 3:47Speaker 1: including me making a video version of the podcast. So
- 3:51Speaker 1: if you would like to support to become a member
- 3:53Speaker 1: right here on YouTube, receive some timed exclusive episodes you
- 3:58Speaker 1: could check out, and we have opportunities to pitch special
- 4:04Speaker 1: episodes right like whatever, what if people are arguing, Yo,
- 4:09Speaker 1: who you think has the best catalog and hip hop
- 4:13Speaker 1: that can be a member exclusive episode.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So stuff like that.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But again, follow the link in the description of this episode,
- 4:22Speaker 1: check out all the information and we appreciate anything and
- 4:26Speaker 1: everything people can do.
- 4:28Speaker 2: For the show.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Now, big shout out to hip HOPDX dot com. I'm
- 4:34Speaker 1: just gonna say it Instagram and other places where I
- 4:37Speaker 1: get some of my stories from list well and Twitter.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business. Mass Appeal, if you
- 4:49Speaker 1: don't know, last year dropped the series of albums called
- 4:54Speaker 1: The series was called Legend Has It Right, and it
- 4:57Speaker 1: was seven albums from Legends, seven new albums from Legends
- 5:03Speaker 1: in the Rap game, which included Slick Brick, Ray Kwan,
- 5:09Speaker 1: Ghost Face, Mob, Deep Day La, Soul, Big L and
- 5:15Speaker 1: the album featuring NAS and Premier.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:18Speaker 1: That's how they ended it in December, and I'll leave
- 5:22Speaker 1: the link to the recap me and the homie AC did.
- 5:28Speaker 1: His name's not the Homie act, by the way, I
- 5:30Speaker 1: just say homie all the top, but his name is Ac.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Episode that me and AC did where we kind of
- 5:35Speaker 1: recap that rollout and generally speaking, we were satisfied with it.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It was dope to have It was just dope to
- 5:45Speaker 1: have a rollout of MC's who were still active and
- 5:50Speaker 1: for them to have this amount of attention in the
- 5:53Speaker 1: hip hop in today's hip hop game.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Well, right after that was over, you know, and the
- 6:00Speaker 2: new year was upon us.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Mass Appeal on their Instagram put up a post that
- 6:06Speaker 1: said mass appeal. Imagine that take your ticket, and at
- 6:11Speaker 1: the bottom it says anything is possible right on the
- 6:15Speaker 1: image which I should be shown right now, and it
- 6:19Speaker 1: said in our next move and it puts stay tuned
- 6:23Speaker 1: right twenty twenty five, legend has it twenty twenty six,
- 6:28Speaker 1: imagine that. Then not that long ago, they put up
- 6:34Speaker 1: a post that had j Cole and Kendrick as that
- 6:42Speaker 1: image that everybody uses of them together, I guess backstage
- 6:45Speaker 1: of the show, and they said massapil says, what joint
- 6:49Speaker 1: album would make Wait, what joint album would you make happen?
- 6:55Speaker 1: If you could imagine that? Now, keep in mind, well
- 6:59Speaker 1: they are so said this. Never getting that Child Rebel
- 7:03Speaker 1: Soldier album hurt my heart. Now remember their original posts,
- 7:11Speaker 1: the imagine that right at the bottom anything is possible.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Now when they posted that, you know, of course everybody's
- 7:22Speaker 1: wanted that album forever, right, They've wanted that specific album forever.
- 7:27Speaker 1: J Cole and Kendrick together on one album, but we
- 7:34Speaker 1: never got it. And we know what happened with the battle.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We know what J Cole did prior to that to
- 7:42Speaker 1: kind of tick Kendrick off, and we know where Kendrick
- 7:45Speaker 1: went with it, and we know where J Cole eventually
- 7:48Speaker 1: didn't go with the battle, right, So it had me intrigued, like, hmmm,
- 7:58Speaker 1: anything is possible, And a lot of people was like, now,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I don't think that's gonna happ because a blah blah
- 8:03Speaker 1: blah blah blah. Well one of two things, right, it
- 8:07Speaker 1: could have been happening in the entire time, right, we
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't know when these guys could have mended their situation
- 8:16Speaker 1: or just talked, right, We don't know when Mass appeal
- 8:21Speaker 1: and probably NAS.
- 8:22Speaker 2: We look, we know what J Cole feel about NAS.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I mean, his latest song is basically a NAS record,
- 8:30Speaker 1: or like paying homage to a NAS record but taking
- 8:32Speaker 1: it a step further, right, And he also made a
- 8:35Speaker 1: song called I Let Nads Down. I think I let
- 8:37Speaker 1: NAS down or whatever. We know how J Cole feels
- 8:40Speaker 1: about NAS. But also when Kendrick on gn X, when
- 8:47Speaker 1: Kendrick got a Super Bowl nod, he felt like everybody
- 8:53Speaker 1: decided to hate and say how much he didn't deserve it,
- 8:56Speaker 1: or they said nothing at all, and he said, only
- 9:01Speaker 1: NAS congratulated me.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Publicly, right, remember that?
- 9:09Speaker 1: And then he went on on G and X to
- 9:13Speaker 1: do a song a rendition of the song from the
- 9:16Speaker 1: same Steal Madic album that featured rewind that J Cole
- 9:21Speaker 1: just did right.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Earlier? What was that when GNX dropped twenty twenty five.
- 9:28Speaker 1: He did a song that clearly was all I need
- 9:33Speaker 1: is one mic call I deserve it all. So here
- 9:37Speaker 1: you have J Cole and Kendrick doing evolutions of NAS
- 9:44Speaker 1: records from the same Steal Madic album and now the
- 9:49Speaker 1: first post in twenty twenty six for this imagine that
- 9:53Speaker 1: series where they say anything is possible, you have that.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I think I just it's all that y'all we getting
- 10:02Speaker 2: that album.
- 10:03Speaker 1: It's going to be the last one because it's probably
- 10:06Speaker 1: the biggest one, right as far as projects. But that aside,
- 10:13Speaker 1: we knew they were talking about a situation with duos
- 10:17Speaker 1: like that was the theme.
- 10:18Speaker 2: What duos would you want to see together? Right? So
- 10:21Speaker 2: J Cole and.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Kendrick is a huge, right, that's one people will even
- 10:26Speaker 1: if you don't like them, you will check it out
- 10:28Speaker 1: to see what they do as a group. But then
- 10:32Speaker 1: they posted something recently, what's the best one producer album ever?
- 10:38Speaker 2: Right?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Duos again MC and one producer? What's your pick?
- 10:47Speaker 2: Is it?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Here to the person who said Thriller to Shaye, right, Well, yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 1: we know because when it comes to Michael Jackson and
- 10:54Speaker 1: Quincy Jones, there is no other duo better duo. We
- 11:01Speaker 1: know Stevie's out there. But the image they chose to
- 11:06Speaker 1: post when they said what's the best one producer album ever?
- 11:10Speaker 1: Is a picture of Alchemists and Currency And if you
- 11:15Speaker 1: know anything about the project that Alchemists and Currency put
- 11:19Speaker 1: together in the early two thousands or the twenty tens,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I think it was.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I think it was the twenty tens.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Hip hop heads loved that album, but we never really
- 11:31Speaker 1: got a true sequel to that album. Now, some may say,
- 11:37Speaker 1: just like with the Kendrick and j Coles situation, that nah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: you know J Cole's getting ready drop.
- 11:44Speaker 2: His album and roll out. He's getting ready to do
- 11:48Speaker 2: that in February.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Remember legend has it ran through the summer and ended
- 11:56Speaker 1: in December. That could be the last project, which means
- 12:00Speaker 1: j co would have two projects in twenty twenty six.
- 12:03Speaker 2: It's not unheard of, right, But also.
- 12:10Speaker 1: This pairing would be much easier to do, right, Alchemists
- 12:15Speaker 1: and Currency. But guess what as your scroll, there's Gangstar
- 12:21Speaker 1: there because they're putting up everybody else's stuff right, it's
- 12:25Speaker 1: Mob Deep there. What is this Big Boston. I don't
- 12:30Speaker 1: know what this is. I'm sorry, y'all. MF Doom and
- 12:34Speaker 1: mad Lib right, Freddie Gibbs and mad Lib like, and
- 12:39Speaker 1: then Alchemists and Currency Covert, Cool, j Ruted Damager and Premier.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I think this is easy and Buck Wild that's not true.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Somebody put Wu tang whatever. But obviously they're promoting what
- 13:00Speaker 1: people say. But this one guy, easily, he knows what's
- 13:05Speaker 1: happening because the lead image is the one thing that
- 13:09Speaker 1: hip hop has won a sequel to that can happen easily.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Remember Alchemist was a part of the Mob Deep situation.
- 13:19Speaker 2: And let me just go back real quick.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I'm not displaying this, but you know I'm talking about
- 13:24Speaker 1: it because I believe there was also multiple pictures with
- 13:29Speaker 1: the J Coast and Kendrick situation. So they said what
- 13:33Speaker 1: joint album would you make happen if you could? And
- 13:37Speaker 1: there was first image was J Cole and Kendrick. Second
- 13:41Speaker 1: image was Lil Wayne and Jules. Remember that was rumored
- 13:46Speaker 1: Joel's and that was rumored for a minute. Kanye and Loope.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think I want that one, that's for sure. A
- 13:57Speaker 1: ghost Face and MF Doom. If that one happens, Mac
- 14:05Speaker 1: Miller and Pharrell. I'm almost positive there's a they have
- 14:11Speaker 1: an album and a trump but I just don't think
- 14:13Speaker 1: that's gonna happen. But that would be crazy. A SAP
- 14:17Speaker 1: now this is a SAP oh and schoolboy Q. I
- 14:21Speaker 1: don't know if I want that. I think there's somebody
- 14:25Speaker 1: no offense to a SAP Rocky, but I think there's
- 14:29Speaker 1: someone who you can probably pair that'll be a better parent.
- 14:33Speaker 2: But you never know that Perry could be ill. So
- 14:40Speaker 2: Master Pio's theme.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Is duos, right, whether that's one producer and one rapper
- 14:50Speaker 1: like Nas and Primo did to end off of the
- 14:54Speaker 1: last series Legend has it, or two rappers. But in
- 14:59Speaker 1: the case of j Cole and Kendrick, J Cole is
- 15:03Speaker 1: also a producer, So you see what I'm saying, producing
- 15:08Speaker 1: rap it's gonna be interesting. I know one thing, and
- 15:13Speaker 1: I've said this. I said this in a group chat
- 15:16Speaker 1: earlier this week. You cannot tease these types of connections
- 15:26Speaker 1: J Cole and Kendricks specifically. People have been wanting that
- 15:30Speaker 1: for a very long time. You can't tease it if
- 15:33Speaker 1: you don't have it Currency and Alchemists. I could believe
- 15:39Speaker 1: that that's gonna happen, Joe Well's.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And Lil Wayne maybe.
- 15:46Speaker 1: But I don't see it, and I don't want it,
- 15:48Speaker 1: to be honest, that was unless unless they're sitting on
- 15:55Speaker 1: an album that they did in the past. But I
- 15:59Speaker 1: don't want them to when anything new, right, and it
- 16:02Speaker 1: would be new to us because it would be something unreleased.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I just don't know if that's gonna happen. MF.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Doom in Ghost Face we want that. We want that
- 16:13Speaker 1: now we know we know MF. Doom is not here,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but neither was Big Al Prodigy and Dave of De
- 16:19Speaker 1: La Soul. So I'm excited to see what happens. I
- 16:24Speaker 1: like the teasers. I just hope when they announce them,
- 16:28Speaker 1: even if it's seven albums again, that it's interesting and exciting,
- 16:35Speaker 1: just like it was before every time we got a
- 16:37Speaker 1: new album from artists.
- 16:39Speaker 2: So we'll see next.
- 16:46Speaker 1: So if you watch this podcast or listen to this podcast,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know my feelings on rock Marciano right, I don't
- 16:55Speaker 1: feel like the man is whack.
- 16:57Speaker 2: He's not whack.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm not the biggest fan of him as an MC right.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Sometimes I hear bars and I'm like, oh, okay, that
- 17:07Speaker 1: was crazy. Sometimes I hear bars and I'm like, what
- 17:12Speaker 1: this is nonsense? Right, Like you know, I opened up
- 17:15Speaker 1: the pack of noodles, like to show you that I
- 17:17Speaker 1: open your noodle.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Come on, dog, what what is that? What are you saying?
- 17:23Speaker 2: And I get it.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Some of you new fans and casual fans, when you
- 17:28Speaker 1: understand the line, you think you have ascended to the
- 17:32Speaker 1: top of hip hop intellect, and you haven't. I've been
- 17:38Speaker 1: listening for so long, I've been writing for so long,
- 17:42Speaker 1: I've been hosting hip hop.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I've done everything in hip hop fan.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I don't have to be famous to you, but I
- 17:49Speaker 1: know bars when I hear them. But that's not why
- 17:54Speaker 1: people like Rock Marciano. Only it's the aesthetic of him, right,
- 18:02Speaker 1: like currency is. I wouldn't say, I know his nickname
- 18:05Speaker 1: is spitter, but I don't think he's nice like that.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:09Speaker 1: He never had me like YO carried a one Oh dude,
- 18:12Speaker 1: that's what he said. He never had me like that.
- 18:16Speaker 1: But I think his lyrics are cool, and his flow
- 18:20Speaker 1: is cool, and his vibe is cool. That's why I
- 18:24Speaker 1: know there are a lot of people who like Rock Marciano. Again,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I'm not saying he don't have no bars. That's not true.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I'm just saying overall, I don't like his delivery that
- 18:38Speaker 1: more than anything, his delivery that much. So I have
- 18:42Speaker 1: songs I like here and there. I pick and choose,
- 18:44Speaker 1: but sometimes it's tough for me to nail down the
- 18:47Speaker 1: album and say that's my favorite and for me to
- 18:50Speaker 1: get excited for the next thing. But I always check
- 18:54Speaker 1: for it, you know why, because definitely as a producer,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I love his choices in production. And he dropped the
- 19:02Speaker 1: brand new album called six five six. It has twelve tracks.
- 19:09Speaker 1: It's only thirty two minutes, which is fine. You heard
- 19:12Speaker 1: everything I said, Like, my attention span would be low anyway,
- 19:17Speaker 1: And if you've been here for reviews before, you know
- 19:21Speaker 1: how it goes down for me when it comes to reviews.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I gave it three listens. My first listen is just
- 19:28Speaker 1: to you know, get my impressions, just press play and
- 19:32Speaker 1: listen to what's Then my second listen is to dig
- 19:35Speaker 1: a little bit deeper into you know, what he's saying
- 19:38Speaker 1: and how he's saying it, and how the song sound
- 19:41Speaker 1: and the beats and the sequence and it just basically
- 19:43Speaker 1: the details of the album, and my third listen is
- 19:47Speaker 1: just to confirm my thoughts and for those who need
- 19:50Speaker 1: quick reviews, it's okay, it's cool.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I'm not going crazy over it. I can't say early.
- 20:02Speaker 1: That it's one of the best of the year already
- 20:06Speaker 1: because I don't feel that way. But when he opened
- 20:12Speaker 1: the album with the song trick Bag, I was like,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I think I want more of this, Like I want
- 20:18Speaker 1: more of what I'm hearing here, and I think on
- 20:20Speaker 1: this album you get more of that. And it's in between,
- 20:27Speaker 1: you know, different things here and there, but at the
- 20:29Speaker 1: end of the day, I like it. The only feature
- 20:32Speaker 1: on this album I believe is Eric Holden, who he
- 20:36Speaker 1: sounds dope rapping next to Rock Marciano, and I feel like,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I don't know if I wanted a album.
- 20:47Speaker 2: That, you know, they was like a duo album.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Is so Eric Holden is on every song because I
- 20:53Speaker 1: feel like he's a very different vibe. Rock Marciano by
- 20:57Speaker 1: himself is a particular vibe. Right, It's cool, you know
- 21:01Speaker 1: what I'm saying. It is rich, it's street that like
- 21:07Speaker 1: that's that's kind of like the whole feeling behind us,
- 21:10Speaker 1: Like the mystique is what really makes the music, and
- 21:14Speaker 1: I think he creates the proper production to accompany that.
- 21:20Speaker 1: So for me, like songs like trick Bag, I really
- 21:23Speaker 1: like hate his love Vanity is dope to me. Good
- 21:29Speaker 1: for you, there's enough on here. Even you got a
- 21:33Speaker 1: song called easy Bake Oven Like I like these records.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm not gonna complain, but I'm not gonna hold you
- 21:43Speaker 1: like I feel like when it comes to rock Marciano,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I as far as recent projects, and I know everybody
- 21:52Speaker 1: likes The Elephant Man's Bones and I liked some of it,
- 21:55Speaker 1: but I just didn't like it as much as everybody else.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I just feel like, for me as a listener, sometimes,
- 22:02Speaker 1: who's an MC who knows hip hop since you know
- 22:07Speaker 1: I was born Basically, I just feel like, for me,
- 22:11Speaker 1: he's an a choir taste, And that's fine because you
- 22:15Speaker 1: know who else is an acquiet taste kid cutting, But
- 22:20Speaker 1: sometimes if he has a song I like, I'm rock
- 22:24Speaker 1: with it. It's the same way with rock Marciano. If
- 22:27Speaker 1: he has a song or an album I like, I'll
- 22:30Speaker 1: I have no problem playing it. I'm not one of
- 22:32Speaker 1: those people when I say I don't like something or
- 22:35Speaker 1: I'm not calling it the greatest that means I hate
- 22:38Speaker 1: it and I hate that person.
- 22:40Speaker 2: No, it's just not for me.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I know people who can't stand what Side Gun and
- 22:47Speaker 1: a lot of west Side Gun vibe is similar and
- 22:50Speaker 1: approach to lyrics. In some ways, it's similar to rock Marciano,
- 22:54Speaker 1: but they they're very different.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Also, mainly west Side Gun's voice is so unique.
- 23:03Speaker 1: That's part of the reason why I like him, right
- 23:05Speaker 1: is he has a unique voice, and then you know
- 23:08Speaker 1: there's a visual, you know, with the fashion and all that.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Rock Marciano is the same thing.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Without that voice, a deeper voice and a little bit
- 23:17Speaker 1: more bars. So if you're thinking about checking this out,
- 23:22Speaker 1: I'll say this, if you're a rock Marciano fan, I'm
- 23:25Speaker 1: curious when it comes to his catalog, and not that
- 23:30Speaker 1: you should rank this against some of his best, but
- 23:34Speaker 1: do you like this? Because I can't say I've been
- 23:37Speaker 1: a fan forever. I'm in and out of his music
- 23:41Speaker 1: for the most part, But those who like rock Marcy
- 23:44Speaker 1: is my guy.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I check for him all the time. How does this
- 23:48Speaker 2: album sound to you?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Because I would think a hardcore rock Marciano fan is
- 23:54Speaker 1: probably gonna like this.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I would think a person who's looking for.
- 24:00Speaker 1: You know, or looking to get away from you know,
- 24:03Speaker 1: the mumble rap, looking to get away from the streets
- 24:08Speaker 1: I'll kill you in this way. Who are typically like
- 24:12Speaker 1: one note and how they talk about it and looking
- 24:16Speaker 1: for a flow that's unique and interesting to them, and
- 24:22Speaker 1: Rock Marciano might be that guy. In six five six,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I feel like it's a cool album. It's cool, you know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: And dare I say I like it better than what
- 24:33Speaker 1: he did with Premire you know. I felt like some
- 24:37Speaker 1: of those songs were cool, but the beats didn't really
- 24:40Speaker 1: match what we used to hearing for Rock Marciano. So
- 24:44Speaker 1: leave your review in the common section below, especially if
- 24:48Speaker 1: you're a hardcore fan of Rock Marciano. You don't need
- 24:51Speaker 1: me to like it as much as you, but I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: curious about how you feel about it. And lastly, say
- 25:01Speaker 1: so y'all know, man, I don't really do I didn't Honestly,
- 25:08Speaker 1: I really don't do a bunch of like arguing online
- 25:12Speaker 1: because why, For one, I don't have the time.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I have like three three jobs.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm not lying right, probably more than that because considering
- 25:22Speaker 1: I'm married with kids. Also, sometimes people will post things
- 25:32Speaker 1: online because it's a hot take or debate.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Right. Some people just want to debate. You.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Some people may not like the person who they're posing
- 25:45Speaker 1: the question against as far as like the subject matter,
- 25:49Speaker 1: and they just want to find something to find a
- 25:54Speaker 1: hill to stand on. And that hell this week is
- 25:58Speaker 1: Jadakids versus Common and specifically their catalogs now Shout out
- 26:03Speaker 1: to Tony from the Dome podcast right here on YouTube.
- 26:08Speaker 2: We've done eighty.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Episodes of a series called That Time and hip Hop.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Obviously we chop it up about hip hop. Tony is
- 26:17Speaker 1: way more active on Twitter than I am when it
- 26:19Speaker 1: comes to debating these things, and he actually did a
- 26:22Speaker 1: video about Jadakiss versus Common, But I was thinking about
- 26:28Speaker 1: it myself, and when it comes to just the MCN,
- 26:33Speaker 1: I think it's very.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Debatable right too.
- 26:38Speaker 1: This subject matter is so different it's almost difficult to
- 26:42Speaker 1: compare them because what's dope about Common might not be
- 26:46Speaker 1: dope about Jadakus. What's dope about Jadakis may not be
- 26:52Speaker 1: as dope when you're talking the Common, right, So what's
- 26:55Speaker 1: the difference. While Jadakiss is probably most concent record and
- 27:01Speaker 1: maybe his biggest hit was the song why Right, but
- 27:08Speaker 1: what's dope about that record is not only what he did,
- 27:12Speaker 1: but the fact that he doesn't talk about that type
- 27:15Speaker 1: of stuff that often, if at all, right, per album
- 27:19Speaker 1: you may get one or two tracks, whereas Common that's
- 27:23Speaker 1: his fabric, that's what he's made of, and that's not
- 27:26Speaker 1: all he talks about. But if you were going to
- 27:29Speaker 1: call him a conscious rapper, no one would say, no,
- 27:33Speaker 1: he's not.
- 27:34Speaker 2: He's a gangster rapper. He's not.
- 27:37Speaker 1: But he doesn't only rap about being conscious, just like
- 27:40Speaker 1: Jadakiss didn't only rap about the streets. And you can
- 27:44Speaker 1: flip it on his head and say the same thing
- 27:47Speaker 1: about Common. Right, what's the most gangster record he's made?
- 27:53Speaker 1: What the corner you know? Or what's the stolen moments
- 28:00Speaker 1: you know? Or maybe another record? But is it as
- 28:04Speaker 1: street as hearing it come from somebody like Jadakus? You
- 28:09Speaker 1: already know what it's about when a run up in
- 28:12Speaker 1: your house, put the gun up in your mouth, get
- 28:14Speaker 1: the money out the couch, hearing you out for census
- 28:18Speaker 1: perhaps for instance, I'm saying there's different levels. It's difficult
- 28:25Speaker 1: to compare those two. But if we're just gonna compare
- 28:29Speaker 1: them for what they are and specifically their catalogs, it's
- 28:35Speaker 1: no contest. Common's catalog is superior to Jadakis's catalog. I
- 28:43Speaker 1: don't care what type of hip hop you like, you
- 28:47Speaker 1: can probably only name two Jadakis albums that you can
- 28:51Speaker 1: stand on say these are dope?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Common did that he?
- 28:55Speaker 1: I think he put out like three in a row
- 28:59Speaker 1: Resurrection one day it all makes sense, like water for chocolate.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Then he has b and he has Fine It Fever.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Then he has the Dream of the Believer, which everybody
- 29:09Speaker 1: thought was dope. But you know, he got some of
- 29:11Speaker 1: the albums now you done forgot about it, and then
- 29:13Speaker 1: you can fast forward way further and he got the
- 29:17Speaker 1: joint Auditorium Value one with Pete Rock. I'm not even
- 29:22Speaker 1: naming all the albums I think are good, but when
- 29:25Speaker 1: you go to Jadakiss, and I don't feel as strongly
- 29:29Speaker 1: as far as like dislike than everybody else does. But
- 29:34Speaker 1: Jadakiss doesn't have as many albums, and he definitely doesn't
- 29:38Speaker 1: have as many good to great albums. Honestly he has.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I think his debut is his best, but there's a
- 29:48Speaker 1: lot of skips there that y'all don't remember, but they're there.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And his second album, which was probably his more commercial
- 29:59Speaker 1: album or his biggest, This album because I liked the
- 30:01Speaker 1: variety that was there, but it just didn't carry over
- 30:06Speaker 1: to the other albums, which I believe he had three
- 30:11Speaker 1: more three or four more or something like that. It's
- 30:16Speaker 1: mixtapes are dope, but those aren't albums. So I feel
- 30:22Speaker 1: like this whole debate is coming from people who either
- 30:27Speaker 1: didn't know Jadakiss was dope or forgot he was dope,
- 30:33Speaker 1: and they saw the verses and they latched onto what
- 30:37Speaker 1: Jadakiss was doing, And then you thought about Common because
- 30:42Speaker 1: you wasn't outside when Common Records were crazy and said
- 30:48Speaker 1: Jadakis is better than I think.
- 30:50Speaker 2: At the end of the day, it just comes down
- 30:52Speaker 2: the preference. Now, I'm a fan of both.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Like I said, I may say that about Jadakiss albums,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but I have them all because I'm a fan.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Same thing about Common Common.
- 31:02Speaker 1: We could flip it the other way right out of
- 31:05Speaker 1: the whack albums from each who has the wackedts? Common
- 31:08Speaker 1: hands down has the wackts. That EMC that is the
- 31:12Speaker 1: whackest album he's made. Electric Circus isn't bad, It's just
- 31:17Speaker 1: different from what he's made. But but that record that
- 31:21Speaker 1: MC or EMC or whatever it was called, was trash.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Jada. Kids don't have one of those.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But he does have albums with questionable features, questionable hooks
- 31:31Speaker 1: which kind of exists on most of his albums, and
- 31:34Speaker 1: in some cases questionable beats. So it's one of those
- 31:39Speaker 1: things where I get it right. You got your guy.
- 31:46Speaker 1: You have enough from that person to feel like you
- 31:49Speaker 1: could stand on the hill and say Jada is better.
- 31:53Speaker 1: And you're naming things that are not albums, because you know,
- 31:56Speaker 1: when you start talking about albums, you probably haven't heard them.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Jadakins was dropping albums and I wasn't seeing nobody saying nothing.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I was in the gym listening to Top five Data Alive.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I was skipping some, but nobody was talking about it
- 32:14Speaker 1: because they didn't like it.
- 32:17Speaker 2: He did the verses. Now they act like they've been
- 32:19Speaker 2: here the entire time. You haven't.
- 32:22Speaker 1: You don't have the context of being there when Jada's dropped,
- 32:26Speaker 1: when Common dropped each time, and listening to make proper judgment.
- 32:32Speaker 1: But I posed this question to you, the listeners, the
- 32:35Speaker 1: viewers of this podcast, who do you prefer who's better?
- 32:41Speaker 2: Even who's better lyrically?
- 32:43Speaker 1: That I don't know, that's just too it's just too different.
- 32:46Speaker 2: For me to judge.
- 32:48Speaker 1: But who do you think has the better catalog, I
- 32:51Speaker 1: say comment, What do you say? Leave your comments in
- 32:54Speaker 1: a comment section below. That's going to do it for me.
