- 0:05Speaker 1: Brady Farcas is the host of Refused to Lose Territory,
- 0:08Speaker 1: all about the Seattle Mariners, and he is joining us
- 0:10Speaker 1: right now on FT. Brady, good to see it. Hitting
- 0:12Speaker 1: with the hard question right off the jump, you're Jerry Depoto,
- 0:16Speaker 1: what's the plan? What are you doing in the next week?
- 0:19Speaker 2: I think you have to buy, but I think you
- 0:21Speaker 2: have to buy smartly. I mean, this team needs offense
- 0:24Speaker 2: in the worst possible way, but I don't think they
- 0:27Speaker 2: need rental offense. Look, the Taylor Wards are out there.
- 0:31Speaker 2: If they could get that guy for not a lot,
- 0:33Speaker 2: then I would do it. But I think given the
- 0:36Speaker 2: deficit of right handed hitters available, I don't know that
- 0:38Speaker 2: it's possible to get a rental player for a rental
- 0:41Speaker 2: hitter for it not a lot. So I think they
- 0:43Speaker 2: need to look in the tailor ward direction. But I
- 0:45Speaker 2: also think that they need to buy with the future
- 0:49Speaker 2: in mind, with the ability to get guys who are
- 0:51Speaker 2: under team control. Because as much as everybody wants this
- 0:54Speaker 2: year to potentially work out, and there is a chance
- 0:57Speaker 2: that it could, you've got to think about next year
- 0:59Speaker 2: as well.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Well.
- 1:00Speaker 2: So I'm kind of out on the rental players unless
- 1:02Speaker 2: they can be had for a good price, and I
- 1:04Speaker 2: don't know that the good price really exists right now.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I do think that moving a starting pitcher, unfortunately, is
- 1:10Speaker 2: a way to get some more talent in here, especially
- 1:13Speaker 2: offensive talent, and kind of rejolt the clubhouse. It's not
- 1:16Speaker 2: something I want to do, but it's something I think
- 1:17Speaker 2: they may have to do to address what are a
- 1:20Speaker 2: growing list of needs.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I was going to say, Brady, what are their needs?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Because I just had their game on Saturday. They can't
- 1:28Speaker 3: score runs. Their offense is offensive, literally, I.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Mean their outfit.
- 1:32Speaker 3: If it wasn't for Young at the top and Ken Zone,
- 1:35Speaker 3: I don't know where this team would because Julio hasn't
- 1:37Speaker 3: had it yet his little couple of weeks where he
- 1:40Speaker 3: was hot. Cal Rawley obviously has been not good. Josh
- 1:43Speaker 3: Naylor has not been good this year. What they have
- 1:46Speaker 3: so many needs, I don't know if there's enough out
- 1:48Speaker 3: there for them to if they want to win the
- 1:50Speaker 3: World Series, right, which is like if they get to
- 1:52Speaker 3: the playoffs, cool, but they need to get to the
- 1:54Speaker 3: World Series. And I don't know if they have enough
- 1:56Speaker 3: prospects or pitchers or anyone to trade unless they'd the
- 2:00Speaker 3: Moose right to get all the needs.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I mean, I think in theory they have enough to
- 2:05Speaker 2: do whatever they want. I just don't think it would
- 2:07Speaker 2: be smart to go and start blowing up the entire
- 2:10Speaker 2: farm system for that run. On the surface, they need
- 2:14Speaker 2: offense in general because outside of Cole Young and Randy
- 2:17Speaker 2: Rose Arena, they really haven't gotten a whole lot of
- 2:19Speaker 2: consistency or a whole lot of slug. The lack of
- 2:21Speaker 2: slug has been the biggest problem with this team this year.
- 2:24Speaker 2: They are a team built to hit home runs that
- 2:27Speaker 2: do not hit enough home runs, like they're fourteenth fifteen, sixteen,
- 2:32Speaker 2: sixteenth in the league in homers, and that's just not
- 2:35Speaker 2: good enough when you are completely home run dependent. They
- 2:37Speaker 2: have far too many games, far too many weeks where
- 2:40Speaker 2: they fail to produce slugs. So they need offense in general. Particularly,
- 2:44Speaker 2: they need right handed hitting. They are last in baseball
- 2:47Speaker 2: in most categories against lefties. The platoons they thought they
- 2:50Speaker 2: had when Rob Revschneider and Victor Roebliss have not worked.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Brendan Donovan has obviously been hurt most of the year,
- 2:57Speaker 2: so they've been completely neutralized by left handed pitching. And oh,
- 3:00Speaker 2: by the way, they have an extremely difficult August coming up.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And this has been my worry for months now. If
- 3:08Speaker 2: they played with their food in the first half of
- 3:11Speaker 2: the season, it was gonna come back to bite them
- 3:13Speaker 2: here in the second half. And it's already bitten them
- 3:15Speaker 2: and we haven't even gotten to August yet. Where they're
- 3:18Speaker 2: gonna see the Tigers, They're gonna see the Rays, They're
- 3:20Speaker 2: gonna see Philly, They're gonna see the Cubs, the Yankees, Houston, Milwaukee,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and a bunch of those games on the road. Like
- 3:26Speaker 2: it is bad now, it has the potential to get worse.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Hi, Brady, I need a one word answer, yes or no,
- 3:35Speaker 4: and it'll dictate where I go from there. Is this
- 3:38Speaker 4: team good enough to win a World Series? How they're
- 3:42Speaker 4: currently constructed? No? So, then which big league pieces when
- 3:49Speaker 4: a team when somebody says that, and if the team
- 3:52Speaker 4: Jerry Depoto believes that, which big league pieces can you
- 3:55Speaker 4: get rid of so that you can add other big
- 3:58Speaker 4: league pieces. I'm not talking about game of rob Refschneider,
- 4:01Speaker 4: Victor Roblaze. I'm talking about are they prepared in a
- 4:05Speaker 4: last year of his contract to get rid of JP
- 4:07Speaker 4: Crawford's defense because he's only hitting two fifteen, so that
- 4:11Speaker 4: they can slide somebody else into a different spot and
- 4:13Speaker 4: then understand he's not gonna be back next year, so
- 4:16Speaker 4: you're not hurting the future, and then adding in somebody
- 4:19Speaker 4: in different spots to fill in those pieces because currently
- 4:23Speaker 4: what they have isn't working.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think the guys that everybody says, oh, they could
- 4:28Speaker 2: move on from the JP Crawfords or the Luke Raileys
- 4:30Speaker 2: of the world, I don't think they inherently have a
- 4:32Speaker 2: whole lot of value on the trade market, especially in
- 4:35Speaker 2: a major league for major league deal, the guy they
- 4:38Speaker 2: can move is probably Emerson Hancock, who has had a
- 4:41Speaker 2: breakout year as a starting pitcher, who is, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: either their fifth or sixth. They have as many as
- 4:46Speaker 2: nine starting pitchers that need innings next year. They have
- 4:49Speaker 2: to move on from someone in some way. Emerson Hancock
- 4:52Speaker 2: is the guy who could bring you a return. Now,
- 4:55Speaker 2: if we use the Connolly early for Curtis Mead deal
- 4:58Speaker 2: as kind of a comparison, it feels like that Curtis
- 5:01Speaker 2: Mead was not a big enough return for Boston, you'd
- 5:03Speaker 2: be looking at probably a similar type thing for the
- 5:06Speaker 2: Mariners as well. If they move on from Hancock, like
- 5:08Speaker 2: Casey Schmidt for Emerson Hancock. Could that have worked, Yeah, maybe,
- 5:11Speaker 2: but Casey Schmidt just got hurt. Spent with Spencer Steer.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Enough for Emerson Hancock. Probably not, But Spencer Steer just
- 5:18Speaker 2: got hurt. Like they need offense for Hancock, and they
- 5:21Speaker 2: need a guy who's under team control for three or
- 5:23Speaker 2: four years. I mean, you guys were talking about the
- 5:26Speaker 2: Nationals a little while ago, like I'd be interested in
- 5:29Speaker 2: Emerson Hancock for Dylan Cruz. But that's not necessarily a
- 5:32Speaker 2: move that guarantees to help you now because Cruz hasn't
- 5:35Speaker 2: really figured it out, so I don't even know that
- 5:37Speaker 2: that would be enough. So it's trying to thread a
- 5:40Speaker 2: very small needle. But Emerson Hancock is the best trade
- 5:43Speaker 2: chip they have that could actually bring something of value
- 5:46Speaker 2: in return to help this year's team as well.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Big second half of the season coming up, there might
- 5:53Speaker 1: be a hot ticket, a rivalry series, a sold out
- 5:57Speaker 1: experience they need to get your hands on. Sea Geek
- 6:01Speaker 1: is the spot for that. You can find good good pricing.
- 6:04Speaker 1: They help you with the pricing, green dot good, red

- 6:12Speaker 1: in August, September and eventually leading up to playoffs.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Why would you not use see geek if you want
- 6:16Speaker 3: a view from your seat. You want to know if
- 6:18Speaker 3: it's a good seat, if it's a good deal. It

- 6:34Speaker 3: can always try to find the green dot on sekk.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And for MLB tickets you can get ten percent off
- 6:39Speaker 1: with that promo codever running all season long, Territory one zero.
- 6:43Speaker 1: That's territory ten off your next set of MLB tickets

- 6:48Speaker 1: the description to download the app and have the code
- 6:50Speaker 1: automatically added to your account so you can use it later.
- 6:53Speaker 3: All right, So I got to ask, I mean, and
- 6:55Speaker 3: Krautz wrote up Crawford. Crawford's playing third base. His defense
- 6:57Speaker 3: has been awful this year, according to people and the
- 7:00Speaker 3: Mariners that I just talked to when I did their
- 7:03Speaker 3: game this weekend, right, he's not hitting.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Then you have cal Rawley, who they're not going to move,
- 7:07Speaker 3: but he is not being good. Again, There's so many
- 7:10Speaker 3: holes there. What is the value, Like you kind of
- 7:13Speaker 3: mentioned it, I don't know that there's value in some
- 7:15Speaker 3: of the pieces that they could even think about moving
- 7:18Speaker 3: because these guys have had such down years of Luke Railey.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I watched him play center field against the Rangers and
- 7:25Speaker 3: it wasn't great and he was not hitting either, So
- 7:28Speaker 3: they would have to you know, you're talking about threading
- 7:30Speaker 3: and needle, wouldn't they have to almost give up some
- 7:32Speaker 3: of those prospects to try to get major league talent
- 7:34Speaker 3: back if they want to do both. It's I just
- 7:38Speaker 3: feel like the poto's hands are tied because he doesn't
- 7:40Speaker 3: have the resources that he normally has available.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Well, they're not going to give up the Kate Anderson,
- 7:45Speaker 2: Ryan Sloans of the world, so they're untouchable. They've got
- 7:48Speaker 2: Felnin Sealaston, who's in Double A right now, who's a
- 7:51Speaker 2: nice piece, who's a shortstop, who's hitting, who's a switch hitter,
- 7:55Speaker 2: who's twenty years old. I believe like they could move
- 7:57Speaker 2: on from him. Michael Arroyo is a right handed hitting
- 8:00Speaker 2: outfielder slash second basement represented Columbia and the team in
- 8:02Speaker 2: the World Baseball Classic. Was their best player at twenty
- 8:05Speaker 2: years old in the WBC. They could move him, although
- 8:07Speaker 2: I don't think that they should so like they do
- 8:10Speaker 2: have prospects outside of Caen Anderson and Ryan Sloan, they
- 8:12Speaker 2: could move the big league club Again, the ref Snyders,
- 8:16Speaker 2: the Railies of the world. I don't think they have
- 8:18Speaker 2: a ton of value on the market, So I think
- 8:20Speaker 2: you're looking at Hancock. Luis Castillo could bring something, but
- 8:25Speaker 2: at best. As again, you guys were just talking about
- 8:27Speaker 2: these bold predictions, like they could trade Luis Castillo to
- 8:30Speaker 2: the White Sox who need a starter. But the best
- 8:32Speaker 2: thing they can probably get from the White Sox is
- 8:34Speaker 2: salary relief, not a player who's going to help them
- 8:37Speaker 2: right now. Even if they traded Hancock to the White Sox,
- 8:40Speaker 2: Chase my draft would fit the Mariner's needs in a
- 8:42Speaker 2: lot of ways. But are the White Sox is going
- 8:44Speaker 2: to go and give him up as they're chasing a
- 8:45Speaker 2: division title. I would guess probably not. So the best
- 8:48Speaker 2: thing they can do that they can hope for in
- 8:50Speaker 2: a Castillo deal is probably salary relief. Hancock is the
- 8:54Speaker 2: guy who can net something of real value if they
- 8:57Speaker 2: really want to go down the rabbit hole of trading.
- 9:00Speaker 2: George Kirby, he probably could as well, despite the fact
- 9:02Speaker 2: that he got lit up against the Rangers on Monday.
- 9:04Speaker 2: He's got two years left, you know this, one and
- 9:07Speaker 2: two more. He would bring some value as well. They've
- 9:09Speaker 2: said they're not going to move him, So I continue
- 9:11Speaker 2: to go back to Hancock and think that is the
- 9:13Speaker 2: guy who can get them, you know, more of what
- 9:16Speaker 2: they need.
- 9:18Speaker 4: All right, So the answers are within, who have you
- 9:21Speaker 4: seen trending in the right direction that you're going to say, Okay,
- 9:25Speaker 4: it has been bad, we get that. But I've seen
- 9:28Speaker 4: this in the last week. I've seen some positivity that,
- 9:31Speaker 4: you know what, this has to change just because of nature.
- 9:39Speaker 2: This is not the answer you're probably going for. But
- 9:42Speaker 2: I think the guy that's really impressed me over the
- 9:43Speaker 2: last few days is cold Emerson. Like I hate to
- 9:45Speaker 2: put this on a twenty one year old, the guy
- 9:47Speaker 2: who just turned twenty one, but Cold Emerson came up
- 9:49Speaker 2: as a top five prospect in baseball, had a couple
- 9:53Speaker 2: of really nice moments early, and then his average is
- 9:55Speaker 2: down to one ninety four. The chase is getting up
- 9:58Speaker 2: there the swing and misses up there. He can't lay
- 10:00Speaker 2: off the high fastball for a long time. In this
- 10:02Speaker 2: series in Texas, he had three hits on Friday. I
- 10:04Speaker 2: believe he had a hit in every game of this series,
- 10:06Speaker 2: even his outs were loud. He's hitting at the bottom
- 10:09Speaker 2: of the order. So like, this is a guy who
- 10:11Speaker 2: I think there is upside for obviously given his prospect pedigree.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Is he going to carry this offense to the playoffs? No,
- 10:18Speaker 2: I don't believe that. I don't think he should have
- 10:20Speaker 2: to do that at twenty one years old. But this
- 10:22Speaker 2: is the guy that I've been most impressed by recently,
- 10:24Speaker 2: which kind of gives you a look into how the
- 10:28Speaker 2: rest of the guys, how poorly they have that I'm
- 10:30Speaker 2: pointing to a twenty one year old. But he's been
- 10:32Speaker 2: pretty good over the last four games, and if he
- 10:34Speaker 2: can get going over these last fifty five games or so,
- 10:37Speaker 2: that will be some semblance of positivity for what we
- 10:41Speaker 2: see that we haven't really had here over the last
- 10:42Speaker 2: couple of weeks, Rady.
- 10:45Speaker 4: What about Cal? What's happening with Cal? I mean, is
- 10:49Speaker 4: it just?
- 10:49Speaker 3: I mean I saw he did an interview the other
- 10:51Speaker 3: day where, oh, it could have been the WBC, it
- 10:54Speaker 3: could be this, I've been hurt, But he didn't really
- 10:56Speaker 3: say like I'm just having a bad year. He didn't
- 10:58Speaker 3: also give real answers to questions, So what is going
- 11:02Speaker 3: on with Cal Rawley? Because he didn't even look like
- 11:05Speaker 3: the same hitter even his swing, his swing rate, his
- 11:08Speaker 3: way up, his chase rate, his way up, his misrate,
- 11:10Speaker 3: his way up. It is like, man, what happened to
- 11:13Speaker 3: Cal Rawly?
- 11:13Speaker 4: Is it just that he's tired from last year?
- 11:17Speaker 2: I think it's pretty clear that it's a bunch of things.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I think if we go back to the WBC, right,
- 11:21Speaker 2: Cal's a very routine oriented guy, process oriented guy. He
- 11:24Speaker 2: didn't play every day, He wasn't getting the reps in
- 11:26Speaker 2: the WBC and then the lead up to the WBC,
- 11:29Speaker 2: so he came back tried to overcompensate. It's very clear,
- 11:32Speaker 2: Manny Acta said this on a radio station that Cal
- 11:35Speaker 2: got hurt ramping up coming back from.
- 11:37Speaker 4: The from the WBC.
- 11:39Speaker 2: So clearly he played the first month not at one
- 11:42Speaker 2: hundred percent. Obviously it cost him. He wasn't playing well.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Then he goes on the injured list. Now you're looking
- 11:47Speaker 2: up at the bat, you know, at the scoreboard, and
- 11:48Speaker 2: you're seeing that you're hitting one eighty one sixty. You're
- 11:50Speaker 2: trying to chase numbers. You're trying to chase what you
- 11:53Speaker 2: did last year, and now it's weighing on you. So
- 11:55Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of mental stuff in here
- 11:57Speaker 2: as well, at least early from a physical stamp. The point.
- 12:00Speaker 2: The thing I see the most is, I mean, just
- 12:02Speaker 2: the plate discipline has been really, really tough this year.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The fastball above the hands has always been something that
- 12:09Speaker 2: he's had trouble laying off of. Last year he got
- 12:11Speaker 2: to it a lot more than he had previously. But
- 12:14Speaker 2: this year he's not getting to it, and he can't
- 12:16Speaker 2: lay off of it, and he's doing it from both
- 12:18Speaker 2: sides of the plate. He is chasing that fastball up
- 12:21Speaker 2: above the hands a lot. He's constantly in some two counts,
- 12:24Speaker 2: one to two counts, and everybody knows that against this
- 12:27Speaker 2: caliber of pitching, when you're two to one two, you're
- 12:30Speaker 2: gonna have a really hard time, you know, coming back
- 12:33Speaker 2: from that consistently, and that is where he is far
- 12:35Speaker 2: too often.
- 12:38Speaker 1: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing mack
- 12:41Speaker 1: Weldon right now as we talk about a great brand
- 12:43Speaker 1: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 12:46Speaker 1: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 12:48Speaker 1: a little bit more about mack Weldon with my friend
- 12:51Speaker 1: Eric Kratz.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light, it's summertime right now. For me, though,
- 12:58Speaker 4: they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally, when
- 13:02Speaker 4: I buy tall clothes, it's like something that's cumbersome and boxy.
- 13:06Speaker 4: It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect for the summertime.
- 13:12Speaker 4: They got me all covered.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Comfortable performance material can be yours. Mack Weldon is the spot.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel as effortlessly cool
- 13:24Speaker 1: as you look. With mack Weldon. Go to Mackweldon dot
- 13:26Speaker 1: com and get twenty percent off your first order of
- 13:28Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty five bucks or more with promo
- 13:30Speaker 1: code foul. That's m ackw e l d O N
- 13:32Speaker 1: dot com code foul.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Right. Is the GM who never sits on his hands,
- 13:39Speaker 4: gonna sit on his hands this year at the trade deadline.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Jerry Pottle, I don't think so. I do think based
- 13:47Speaker 2: on what others are saying, they are prepared to moving
- 13:50Speaker 2: starting to move a starting pitcher. I think they would
- 13:53Speaker 2: like to move Luis Castillo because of the age, the performance,
- 13:56Speaker 2: in the money. That's also the reason why other teams
- 13:58Speaker 2: are luke warm on acquiring Louise Castillo. So I think
- 14:01Speaker 2: they would move him if they could. I think Hancock
- 14:04Speaker 2: is going to be the guy. And while I acknowledge
- 14:07Speaker 2: that that can bring them what they need, it does
- 14:09Speaker 2: put them in a precarious situation moving forward because Logan
- 14:13Speaker 2: Gilbert and Luis Castillo are both likely free agents after
- 14:17Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven. Castillo has a vesting option. I don't
- 14:20Speaker 2: know if they'll hit it, but like you could lose
- 14:22Speaker 2: Gilbert and Castillo after twenty twenty seven and be out Hancock,
- 14:26Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, you go from this really
- 14:27Speaker 2: big surplus too. Okay, we've got four or five guys
- 14:31Speaker 2: that now we need healthy and now we need to
- 14:34Speaker 2: be relying upon to be really good, And like that's
- 14:36Speaker 2: a tough spot to be in as well. Just ask
- 14:38Speaker 2: the Martlins of twenty twenty five how it was depending
- 14:41Speaker 2: on just five pitchers to stay healthy. They ended up
- 14:43Speaker 2: at the bottom of the National League practically, so if
- 14:47Speaker 2: they move Hancock, I understand why, but they're going to
- 14:50Speaker 2: end up in a precarious situation moving forward because of
- 14:53Speaker 2: all these contract issues.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Oh a j didn't you just strike a cord? Did
- 14:58Speaker 1: you hear what he just said about the Marlins having
- 15:01Speaker 1: too much pitching? That was one of your favorite notes.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I was just was ignoring it. I just wanted to agree.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Bring Brady into your little thing. Come on part of
- 15:12Speaker 1: the ft fan, tell him Brady.
- 15:14Speaker 3: We talked about the Marlins, and I was surprised they
- 15:16Speaker 3: move Ryan Weathers because you know, they He's a controllable
- 15:20Speaker 3: starter who's been pretty good for him and Marlins fans
- 15:23Speaker 3: just came after me. We have the best pitching of
- 15:25Speaker 3: all time. We have the greatest pitching staff. We have
- 15:27Speaker 3: so much pitching. We have pitching that we haven't even
- 15:30Speaker 3: drafted yet. It will be in the big leagues by
- 15:32Speaker 3: next year. I mean, it was like, Holy cow. I
- 15:34Speaker 3: didn't realize the Marlins were that great, and they just
- 15:36Speaker 3: lost twelve games in a row, by the way, because
- 15:38Speaker 3: they're pitching stunk.
- 15:39Speaker 2: They swept the Mariners right before that though. That's how
- 15:41Speaker 2: bad things have been for the late and all of this.
- 15:45Speaker 2: So look, I'm dating myself on this, but remember Jerry
- 15:49Speaker 2: Maguire from the bed nineties. He says, jump into my
- 15:51Speaker 2: night mire, the water is warm. That is how Mariners
- 15:54Speaker 2: fans feel right now. I mean it has been it
- 15:56Speaker 2: has been ugly. And I will say this even though
- 15:58Speaker 2: you didn't ask. They are headed for a difficult situation
- 16:02Speaker 2: if things don't turn around. August seventh through ninth, when
- 16:05Speaker 2: they come home to play the Rays. They're gonna celebrate
- 16:08Speaker 2: the fiftieth anniversary of the franchise. They're gonna have the
- 16:11Speaker 2: fifty Greatest Mariners there on field, and it has the
- 16:15Speaker 2: potential to be really ugly in a lot of ways,
- 16:18Speaker 2: right Like, I don't think they should, but a lot
- 16:21Speaker 2: of people do. They could fire Dan Wilson right before
- 16:24Speaker 2: the fiftieth anniversary celebration, of which he'd be a part of,
- 16:27Speaker 2: or they can keep Dan Wilson, and Dan Wilson can
- 16:30Speaker 2: end up in a spot where he gets booed at
- 16:32Speaker 2: the ballpark as part of the fifty Greatest Mariners celebration.
- 16:35Speaker 2: That is not a good position for the franchise to
- 16:37Speaker 2: be in. They need to hope for a lot of reasons,
- 16:40Speaker 2: they they turn this around in the next two weeks,
- 16:42Speaker 2: because that is going to be a scene that that's
- 16:46Speaker 2: gonna be a difficult look if things don't turn around
- 16:48Speaker 2: August seventh through ninth.
- 16:50Speaker 1: He needs to just make sure he uses Andre's minos
- 16:52Speaker 1: a lot the next couple weeks and maybe that prevents
- 16:54Speaker 1: some of the booze from coming his way. We got
- 16:56Speaker 1: to jump they ever have a d Grady.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Did Bobby maggianis really make that big of a difference
- 17:03Speaker 3: that they fired this assistant hitting coach out of nowhere
- 17:05Speaker 3: because all he does really is flip balls and do
- 17:08Speaker 3: whatever Kevin Sitzer tells him, Like, why did the assistant
- 17:11Speaker 3: hitting coach get fired?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Quick answer, send a message without sending too big a message.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I think that's that simple.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Brady, You're the man. Thank you so much more. Un
- 17:22Speaker 1: refused to lose territory, Brady Farcus joining us on FT.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Thank you Brady, and there it is. Subscribe to it.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Brady's awesome. Really loved the show even before it joined
- 17:32Speaker 1: the FT network. Hey, we were going to bring up
- 17:36Speaker 1: something else, but I actually want to take data dish
- 17:38Speaker 1: to what you were just talking about. AJ assistant hitting
- 17:41Speaker 1: coach gets asked when the team's not hitting, that's going
- 17:45Speaker 1: to solve the world's problems. Really his fault, his fault.
- 17:49Speaker 3: It was the assistant hitting coach's faull Bobby Moggianas. I
- 17:51Speaker 3: mean they fired him, I think Friday before they went
- 17:55Speaker 3: to Texas out of nowhere and they were like, oh,
- 17:58Speaker 3: we're going to make a move. We're going to fire
- 17:59Speaker 3: the assistant coach and bring up the minor league hitting coordinator.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Like what what.
- 18:05Speaker 3: It's not Bobby Magianis's fault that all these guys are
- 18:08Speaker 3: not hitting. He's doing the same stuff.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Was he with the team last year? Maggianism.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yes, he came over with sites are from the braves.
- 18:18Speaker 4: And if you're talking about like one of the most
- 18:22Speaker 4: genuinely happy human beings, Like if you've ever met him,
- 18:26Speaker 4: you just smile when you hear his name. And I
- 18:28Speaker 4: had no idea he got fired. I just texted him
- 18:31Speaker 4: like that, like he's not the guy there. We're gonna
- 18:34Speaker 4: fire somebody, guys, Okay, we're gonna that's what we're gonna do.
- 18:38Speaker 4: But it can't be Bobby. There's no way somebody went
- 18:40Speaker 4: in there and was like the only way Bobby should
- 18:42Speaker 4: have gotten fired is Bobby went in there was like, guys,
- 18:45Speaker 4: he always has a smile. Guys, I'm gonna be the
- 18:49Speaker 4: one that's fired today. Okay, it's not gonna be you, guys.
- 18:51Speaker 4: And I could see him saying that that's this, that's
- 18:54Speaker 4: how nice this dude is.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Bobby smiles too much. So he got fired. But last
- 19:00Speaker 1: year they were all brilliant in what they were doing
- 19:02Speaker 1: with the hitting program, or maybe it was just cal
- 19:05Speaker 1: Raley hit sixty homers and had not hitting sixty.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Olio had an MVP type of year. JP Crawford was
- 19:15Speaker 4: doing things that he's not doing this year. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 4: those were things that were going well. Yeah, I don't know.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I mean, Edgar Martinez couldn't go to the Hall of
- 19:26Speaker 3: Fame because he had to they had to fly him
- 19:28Speaker 3: into Texas to try to fix the hitting situation because
- 19:31Speaker 3: they got rid of Bobby Magiana's.
- 19:36Speaker 1: A little bit of offensive chaos going on there. And
- 19:39Speaker 1: then the WBC is why cal Rally is not hitting?
- 19:44Speaker 3: That's the word, That's what they were saying. Cal Raley's
- 19:46Speaker 3: not hitting because his preparation was messed up from the WBC.
- 19:50Speaker 3: That's what they were talking about.
- 19:51Speaker 4: As much as I want to sell the narrative that
- 19:53Speaker 4: if you don't play and it throws your rhythm off,
- 19:56Speaker 4: because then I would have an excuse for my career,
- 19:59Speaker 4: I'm not going to sell that narrative. I'm not. You're
- 20:02Speaker 4: you're you're gonna make adjustments from not playing in March
- 20:07Speaker 4: till June till July. You're gonna make adjustments. Did he
- 20:10Speaker 4: play through injuries? Absolutely? Ask him tomorrow. Was he healthy
- 20:15Speaker 4: all last year? No? No,
