- 0:26SPEAKER_15: Hello guys.
- 0:30SPEAKER_09: Welcome to the old Brian and Doug podcast.
- 0:32SPEAKER_09: I'm O'Brien.
- 0:33SPEAKER_09: I'm Doug.
- 0:33SPEAKER_09: Episode.
- 0:34SPEAKER_09: I didn't find Eli's name type.
- 0:36SPEAKER_07: 253.
- 0:37SPEAKER_07: I get to be me today.
- 0:39SPEAKER_13: Yay, man.
- 0:40SPEAKER_07: You want to be me and I'll be you?
- 0:42SPEAKER_11: Nah.
- 0:43SPEAKER_11: I wouldn't do that to you.
- 0:45SPEAKER_11: Oh, I was gonna say.
- 0:46SPEAKER_09: No, I don't want to be you.
- 0:48SPEAKER_09: Why would you want to be me?
- 0:51SPEAKER_09: Jeez.
- 0:53SPEAKER_09: Terrible.
- 0:53SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 0:54SPEAKER_09: What is happening?
- 0:55SPEAKER_09: How do you want to be me?
- 0:56SPEAKER_09: Since our last uh podcast.
- 0:59SPEAKER_11: I made an interesting observation on the way up here because I take a different route to get here every time.
- 1:04SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:05SPEAKER_11: Every week.
- 1:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:06SPEAKER_11: Just to break up the monotony.
- 1:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 1:09SPEAKER_11: I like to see different things.
- 1:10SPEAKER_11: I get it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_11: I was uh I saw this weird setup for like a campfire.
- 1:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:15SPEAKER_11: Outside somebody's house.
- 1:17SPEAKER_11: Like they had those and Adirondack chairs.
- 1:20SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:20SPEAKER_11: So there's two of them, right?
- 1:21SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:21SPEAKER_11: And then the fire pit, well, I mean, they got a concrete fire pit area.
- 1:28SPEAKER_11: Mm-hmm.
- 1:28SPEAKER_11: And then it's one of those metal prefabits.
- 1:32SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:33SPEAKER_11: You know what I'm talking about?
- 1:34SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:35SPEAKER_11: But the chairs are both facing the house.
- 1:39SPEAKER_11: They're not facing the fire.
- 1:40SPEAKER_11: You know how we when you usually have a fire, you f everybody faces the fire.
- 1:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_11: They're not facing the fire.
- 1:46SPEAKER_11: It's like there's like a chair, the two chairs are facing the house, and the fire pit is in between the two chairs.
- 1:55SPEAKER_09: Was there fire going?
- 1:56SPEAKER_09: No.
- 1:56SPEAKER_09: Okay, the only reason I I ask is because maybe they use it for laying out.
- 2:02SPEAKER_09: And it depends on where the sun is.
- 2:05SPEAKER_11: No, no, because of the because the because the chairs are pointed north and the sun is never in the north.
- 2:12SPEAKER_11: So it's like it's like, hey, let's go outside and look at the house while we sit by the fire.
- 2:18SPEAKER_11: Maybe they really like the house.
- 2:19SPEAKER_11: They're just like, wow, look at our house.
- 2:20SPEAKER_11: Look how white it is.
- 2:23SPEAKER_11: I bet it's whiter than the White House.
- 2:25SPEAKER_11: This is amazing.
- 2:27SPEAKER_11: Oh, look at that.
- 2:28SPEAKER_11: That's that's our window.
- 2:30SPEAKER_11: Is there anybody in there?
- 2:31SPEAKER_11: No, because we're out here.
- 2:32SPEAKER_11: They're really proud of it.
- 2:34SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 2:34SPEAKER_11: I really did a good job cleaning those windows.
- 2:37unknown: Yeah.
- 2:37SPEAKER_09: Oh, that one's dirty.
- 2:38SPEAKER_09: Speaking of that, the other, if you've never been walking.
- 2:42SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 2:43SPEAKER_11: And I saw your wife walking.
- 2:44SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 2:46SPEAKER_11: It's a nice night out.
- 2:47SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 2:47SPEAKER_09: It's a beautiful night out.
- 2:48SPEAKER_09: It is perfect for walking.
- 2:49SPEAKER_09: She has been um so she's been.
- 2:54SPEAKER_09: So my father-in-law is how can I say this?
- 3:01SPEAKER_09: Um he's okay, but he's um needs to have someone around.
- 3:07SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 3:08SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 3:08SPEAKER_09: He's not like he's just he's just an old guy.
- 3:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, just needs to have somebody around it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_09: Um and so my mother-in-law is his caretaker, basically.
- 3:19SPEAKER_09: She, you know.
- 3:20SPEAKER_09: And she resisted at first, but we made her get away.
- 3:30SPEAKER_09: So yeah, so she left on Sunday and went up to one of the family camps up at Big Machai's Lake.
- 3:38SPEAKER_09: Um and which is even more of a rustic camp than the camp that we go to.
- 3:43SPEAKER_09: I mean, this has no electricity.
- 3:45SPEAKER_09: Um this is the you know, there's a generator up there.
- 3:49SPEAKER_09: I think it has running water.
- 3:51SPEAKER_09: I think, yeah.
- 3:52SPEAKER_09: But so she went up there Sunday, uh which means someone had to stay with my father-in-law.
- 3:59SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 4:00SPEAKER_09: So between my wife and her brother, they've been hanging out down there during the day.
- 4:06SPEAKER_09: She is which is fine.
- 4:07SPEAKER_09: She does work and stuff.
- 4:08SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 4:09SPEAKER_09: Um and she stayed there last night, and he's staying there tonight.
- 4:14SPEAKER_09: Um, and so my mother-in-law will be back on Wednesday, Tuesday?
- 4:18SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 4:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we'll be back on Wednesday tomorrow.
- 4:21SPEAKER_09: Um But she my wife likes to go for walks.
- 4:25SPEAKER_09: You know, and she likes to she does it in the morning, she'll walk I don't know, six miles, five, six miles.
- 4:33SPEAKER_09: And then she'll do walk again in the afternoon.
- 4:35SPEAKER_09: She always asks me to go with her.
- 4:36SPEAKER_09: I'm like No.
- 4:39SPEAKER_09: Um I should, actually.
- 4:42SPEAKER_09: Um but um and then she'll go for a walk in the afternoon.
- 4:46SPEAKER_09: So she has been uh for lack of a better term, laid up uh for the past few days.
- 4:51SPEAKER_09: So I'm not surprised that you saw her out there.
- 4:54SPEAKER_09: Oh, that was loud.
- 4:55SPEAKER_09: Oh I'm not surprised that you saw her out there walking.
- 4:58SPEAKER_09: Um I'm surpr I would be surprised if she's still walking.
- 5:02SPEAKER_09: She'll probably walk until the sun goes down.
- 5:03SPEAKER_11: Well I was about to say she was you know, she walked past the house.
- 5:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 5:06SPEAKER_11: And she was still going, so I was like, well, I guess when you know she's because from I think she goes that way and then she turns around and comes back this way and wakes over that way and then turns around and comes back.
- 5:17SPEAKER_11: Well, the fight assumes.
- 5:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so so from our house, from our driveway to that the end of that road, the current road, and then back to that house at the end of the Marston Road, the big house.
- 5:29SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 5:29SPEAKER_09: Is two miles.
- 5:31SPEAKER_09: So when you that's when you so out.
- 5:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, out and then back there is two miles.
- 5:35SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 5:35SPEAKER_09: So she'll keep going up to almost her mother's house and then come back down, and then she'll walk this again.
- 5:43SPEAKER_09: She doesn't she know she's it's you know it's her thing.
- 5:48SPEAKER_07: It's her thing.
- 5:49SPEAKER_07: Walkie.
- 5:49SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_07: Walkie type.
- 5:51SPEAKER_04: Um I like it.
- 5:53SPEAKER_09: So I don't have an answer for you for the reason why those Adirondack chairs are facing.
- 5:58SPEAKER_11: I just thought it was weird.
- 5:59SPEAKER_11: It is weird.
- 6:00SPEAKER_11: You know, usually, you know, like I said, you we have a fire pit, you point the chairs at the fire.
- 6:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_11: You know, but they weren't.
- 6:07SPEAKER_11: They're just pointed at their house.
- 6:08SPEAKER_11: I'm like, mm, that's just really weird.
- 6:10SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 6:11SPEAKER_09: What I was gonna tell you, actually, before uh I got off on a tangent, was if you walk around our house, the the uh the side of the house towards Bill's is in desperate need of a power wash.
- 6:27SPEAKER_09: Uh covered with stuff.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: Oh and you know it's just it's just from mowing the lawn and it's just but I mean it's been it's uh it's uh we've needed uh it's uh dirt and stuff, and so it doesn't it used to be a brown uh uh tan house and that side's really brown.
- 6:43SPEAKER_11: Well maybe you're camouflaging it.
- 6:45SPEAKER_11: Maybe you know, extra like extra insulation.
- 6:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_11: You know, just it's like an extra layer of protection against the cold and everything.
- 6:56SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 6:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:57SPEAKER_11: I I I totally totally get it, man.
- 6:59SPEAKER_11: I totally understand that.
- 7:01SPEAKER_09: You got me.
- 7:01SPEAKER_09: I got it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_09: Uh all right.
- 7:03SPEAKER_09: What else is going on?
- 7:06SPEAKER_09: Uh we have a show this Saturday, private event.
- 7:09SPEAKER_09: Uh 50th wedding.
- 7:10SPEAKER_11: Private show.
- 7:11SPEAKER_11: That means we're naked.
- 7:13SPEAKER_11: Just kidding.
- 7:17SPEAKER_09: Um 50th wedding anniversary.
- 7:18SPEAKER_11: That's extra.
- 7:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we charge double for that.
- 7:22SPEAKER_09: Double.
- 7:23SPEAKER_09: Triple sometimes.
- 7:25SPEAKER_09: Um and we pot there's a possibility we Skinny Elvis may have another gig at the end of the month.
- 7:32SPEAKER_09: I don't know how that's gonna go.
- 7:33SPEAKER_11: That'd be kind of neat.
- 7:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_11: Is that is that like uh uh does he have the creations that's am I thinking of a different guy?
- 7:43SPEAKER_11: Home renovation.
- 7:44SPEAKER_09: Oh no, no, yeah, you're thinking of a different guy.
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: The name This was a realtor.
- 7:48SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's a realtor.
- 7:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, he and his wife are realtors, yeah.
- 7:51SPEAKER_09: And and they're it's a housewarming party, so I don't know if it's one of their clients.
- 7:55SPEAKER_11: How did they hear about us?
- 7:56SPEAKER_09: I mean or they just like they put a thing out on on Facebook and said we're in search of a band for a housewarm warming party.
- 8:03SPEAKER_09: Uh and and somebody tagged me.
- 8:08SPEAKER_09: And and so I messaged them and I said, you know Oh, what what was I said something about, you know, uh I have a nineties, I have a an acoustic duo or a nineties rock band that may be able to do it.
- 8:24SPEAKER_06: And she's like, Oh, we love nineties rock.
- 8:27SPEAKER_09: And they had just they also had just gone to uh Poison and uh what was it?
- 8:34SPEAKER_09: Uh Poison and Down down at the waterfront.
- 8:37SPEAKER_11: Oh boy, it wasn't Poison, it was just Brett Michaels.
- 8:40SPEAKER_09: Oh Brett Michaels, yes, that's right.
- 8:42SPEAKER_09: Um and they also went to Collective Soul and Live.
- 8:45SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 8:45SPEAKER_07: I think they're definitely like 90s, yeah.
- 8:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so they said they like the they love the ninety nineties rock and eighties rock, and I said, well, I mean we we and do we have any do you have a website that we can explore or something like that?
- 8:58SPEAKER_09: And I said, Well, no, we're s we're kind of our Facebook page is pretty sparse.
- 9:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it is very sparse.
- 9:07SPEAKER_09: Um so I sent them a rehearsal.
- 9:10SPEAKER_09: When did we rehearse?
- 9:11SPEAKER_09: Um uh well, this right here.
- 9:13SPEAKER_09: Let's see if I can make this sound work.
- 9:17SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 9:21SPEAKER_07: No, I want to the phone's over here.
- 9:25SPEAKER_09: Never mind.
- 9:25SPEAKER_09: I'll just do it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_09: It's right there! I'll just do it there.
- 9:28SPEAKER_09: Let's do it again.
- 9:28SPEAKER_09: Sorry.
- 9:30SPEAKER_09: This is back in January.
- 9:32SPEAKER_11: We were just wearing a hoodie, so it's very cold.
- 9:34SPEAKER_09: We were just kind of learning this song.
- 9:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's my hair off, yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_09: And it's only four of us.
- 9:43SPEAKER_09: We have six of us.
- 9:44SPEAKER_09: This only has four.
- 10:17SPEAKER_09: I didn't remember doing this, but so I I sent it, I sent a link to them, and she said something about uh they've got a couple other people reaching out to them, so she'll let us know.
- 10:29SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_09: And I did tell them that you know we're playing the balloon fest August 22nd.
- 10:34SPEAKER_11: So come yeah, come come come see how you you made a better choice than somebody else.
- 10:40SPEAKER_06: I didn't want to say that.
- 10:45SPEAKER_09: So self-deprecating.
- 10:46SPEAKER_09: We are so self-deprecating, but yeah, and I was gonna do that too.
- 10:49SPEAKER_09: I was like, I said, you know, we're playing on the uh the the um um balloon fest, August 22nd.
- 10:56SPEAKER_09: So if you want to come check us out and uh realize what you've what you uh something, you know, like what you avoided.
- 11:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know.
- 11:03SPEAKER_13: This is what you're missing, yeah.
- 11:05SPEAKER_09: Um but I didn't.
- 11:06SPEAKER_09: So yeah, so I mean that's a possibility.
- 11:09SPEAKER_09: We may have that keyboard.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: That'd be cool.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: That'd be cool.
- 11:12SPEAKER_09: And it it may not, but that's fine as well.
- 11:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_11: Um it wasn't one we were planning on anyway.
- 11:17SPEAKER_11: So if it happens, great.
- 11:18SPEAKER_11: If it doesn't, oh well.
- 11:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:19SPEAKER_09: So um but it's four hours.
- 11:23SPEAKER_11: So we well that's what I was thinking.
- 11:25SPEAKER_09: I mean, we I mean we can take take breaks and well not only that, but we've got all the non-horn stuff from the C.
- 11:33SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_09: We got all the Reverend Funk.
- 11:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, all that stuff.
- 11:36SPEAKER_11: We could fake a lot of stuff.
- 11:37SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 11:38SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, we got we got this.
- 11:39SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_11: I'm not this.
- 11:40SPEAKER_11: I'm not too too terrible.
- 11:41SPEAKER_11: I guess nobody liked my idea of my five-minute interpretive dance before every song.
- 11:45SPEAKER_11: No, I said we should open for you.
- 11:47SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's not that's not a good idea.
- 11:49SPEAKER_11: I just thought it would be a nice time killer.
- 11:52SPEAKER_11: Or I was thinking on the way up, what we could do is like play the original first, and then we play our rendition of it so people can contrast and compare, and then write an essay about it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_09: You mean like play the original song on speakers?
- 12:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:10SPEAKER_09: And then we're gonna be able to do that.
- 12:11SPEAKER_11: And then we play it, and then we go, which one's better?
- 12:14SPEAKER_11: And they're always gonna be like, well, the original, obviously stupid.
- 12:17SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, Noted.
- 12:19SPEAKER_11: Here's the next one.
- 12:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_11: That's a weird gig.
- 12:27SPEAKER_09: Those guys are weird.
- 12:28SPEAKER_09: We've had a uh relatively big break from the syndicate.
- 12:32SPEAKER_09: Um like a matter of weeks, right?
- 12:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we haven't played since July 18th.
- 12:38SPEAKER_09: So we play we play three gigs in a row to make up for that.
- 12:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:41SPEAKER_09: Um in not next week, but the week after.
- 12:44SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 12:44SPEAKER_09: We are downtown Prescott on Thursday night for the car show.
- 12:49SPEAKER_11: Um and then I hope we're set up like we were last year.
- 12:53SPEAKER_09: That was fun.
- 12:53SPEAKER_09: That was neat.
- 12:54SPEAKER_09: I hope the weather's good too.
- 12:55SPEAKER_09: I hope so too.
- 12:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we got lucky last year.
- 12:57SPEAKER_09: So um and then Friday we're at the Cadian Festival, which is always a blessing.
- 13:01SPEAKER_11: I love playing up there.
- 13:02SPEAKER_09: Uh, and then Saturday, we I think we're in front of the hill again, right?
- 13:07SPEAKER_09: In Washburn?
- 13:07SPEAKER_09: Washburn.
- 13:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I hope so.
- 13:08SPEAKER_09: So I like playing there too.
- 13:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:10SPEAKER_09: That's a lot of fun games.
- 13:11SPEAKER_09: My uh my mother's actually been calling me.
- 13:13SPEAKER_09: When when is your next uh because I can go to the one in Prescott and the one in Washburn?
- 13:17SPEAKER_09: When when are those?
- 13:18SPEAKER_11: Oh, we quit.
- 13:19SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 13:22SPEAKER_11: Everybody quit.
- 13:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 13:24SPEAKER_09: No.
- 13:25SPEAKER_09: So I gave her those.
- 13:26SPEAKER_09: So imagine be interesting.
- 13:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah, the syndicate broke up.
- 13:30SPEAKER_11: They're all they all started different bands.
- 13:33SPEAKER_11: Well, I mean part of half of that is true.
- 13:35SPEAKER_11: Part of that is true, yes.
- 13:37SPEAKER_09: So yeah.
- 13:38SPEAKER_09: So uh, but that that'll be fun to uh get back at.
- 13:41SPEAKER_09: And then we have after that we have Syndicate has one more, I think.
- 13:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah, September.
- 13:45SPEAKER_11: September.
- 13:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and that's it.
- 13:47SPEAKER_11: Well, and then we got that October gig with the Reverend Funkish.
- 13:51SPEAKER_09: Right, which isn't the Syndicate.
- 13:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's not the Syndicate.
- 13:53SPEAKER_11: So are we gonna rehearse for that?
- 13:55SPEAKER_11: Wow, we got I hope so.
- 13:56SPEAKER_11: Because otherwise, that's gonna be a weird gig.
- 13:59SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 13:59SPEAKER_09: I mean we'll have to dig out some Skinny Elvis stuff for that too.
- 14:02SPEAKER_09: I think, yeah.
- 14:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I was about to say it's gonna be uh we're gonna Hodgepodge.
- 14:05SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be Reverend Elvis.
- 14:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, we'll have to, yeah, it'll be a Hodgepodge for sure.
- 14:09SPEAKER_09: Um anyway, so that's what we have coming up.
- 14:13SPEAKER_09: Um you mentioned, did you say I don't remember if this was on the podcast or not?
- 14:19SPEAKER_09: You're talking about Yacht Rock.
- 14:21SPEAKER_09: You mentioned that.
- 14:22SPEAKER_09: Was that on the podcast or off the podcast?
- 14:24SPEAKER_11: No, you we were talking about before.
- 14:27SPEAKER_11: Before the podcast.
- 14:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_11: About that thing.
- 14:29SPEAKER_09: I was trying to make a segue.
- 14:30SPEAKER_11: I know, but it's I wanted to talk about my thing first.
- 14:33SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 14:33SPEAKER_11: Go ahead, good, good.
- 14:34SPEAKER_11: Well, I was watching just you know Justin Hawkins from The Darkness.
- 14:37SPEAKER_11: Oh, yes.
- 14:37SPEAKER_11: He has his own YouTube channel.
- 14:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 14:39SPEAKER_11: Justin Hawkins Rides Again.
- 14:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:41SPEAKER_11: It's fantastic.
- 14:42SPEAKER_11: I love it.
- 14:42SPEAKER_11: Hilarious.
- 14:43SPEAKER_11: But he was I was watching an episode of it, and he was talking about Chrissy Hines from The Pretenders.
- 14:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_11: And how she put out this statement.
- 14:51SPEAKER_11: They were playing Glastonbury or something.
- 14:53SPEAKER_11: I don't know, and I don't know how long ago this was.
- 14:55SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 14:56SPEAKER_11: But she was like, She was basically telling all the people that normally come to her shows to not be in the front row so other people can be in the front row.
- 15:07SPEAKER_09: Like if you are if you normally come to my show and you're in the front row, give somebody else a turn.
- 15:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah, basically.
- 15:12SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 15:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and he was talking about that.
- 15:14SPEAKER_11: And he was I was kind of like, that's weird.
- 15:17SPEAKER_09: It is weird.
- 15:18SPEAKER_11: And he he he was kind of the same way.
- 15:20SPEAKER_11: He's like, Well, I mean, these people want to come see my show.
- 15:22SPEAKER_09: I mean, I you know What do you care where they where they exactly?
- 15:25SPEAKER_11: I mean, I was like, I was like, he would he this is what he he kind of this is what he said.
- 15:29SPEAKER_11: He's like, you know, I like to go to shows and see familiar faces.
- 15:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 15:34SPEAKER_11: You know, that way you know you're like, hey, these people were big fans.
- 15:36SPEAKER_11: You know, you you can you imagine if you know we had a syndicate show and we were like, oh, uh Jan, you gotta sit in the back today.
- 15:44SPEAKER_11: That's it's really kind of dumb, if you ask me.
- 15:48SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 15:48SPEAKER_11: I don't know why she would say something like that, because you know, you know, no disrespect to Chrissy Hines because she's great, but that's really kind of bizarre.
- 15:56SPEAKER_09: Well, I think, you know, and and I mean this in the nicest possible way, as as artists get older, they go a little off the rocker.
- 16:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I know, because like John Mellencamp has gone you know completely back crap crazy.
- 16:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:15SPEAKER_11: And uh yeah, I I don't know, man.
- 16:17SPEAKER_11: Maybe maybe it's time for some of these people to you know hang up the old spurs.
- 16:20SPEAKER_09: Something about the pasture.
- 16:22SPEAKER_09: You should be and and I'm not saying you're not, but but be thankful that you have fans.
- 16:27SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 16:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I can't imagine go like I said, I can't imagine going to a show and be like, oh, you were here la you know, last week.
- 16:35SPEAKER_11: Uh can you go sit over there?
- 16:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we want to see some new faces.
- 16:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we'd like to see somebody I would be like somebody said that to me, I'd be like, That's rude, you know, throwing them the finger and you know, screw you, I'm out of here.
- 16:46SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_11: You know, I just I just thought it was kind of dumb.
- 16:49SPEAKER_11: He thought it was kind of dumb too.
- 16:51SPEAKER_11: But he did say that he there was one thing he did talk about on the the statement was later on in that episode was that phones at shows is getting out of hand.
- 17:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 17:02SPEAKER_11: He really hates it.
- 17:03SPEAKER_11: He's he actually showed footage of him stealing somebody's phone and sticking it down his pants and up his butt.
- 17:11SPEAKER_11: Oh jeez.
- 17:15SPEAKER_11: I don't I don't know, I don't think it was up his butt, but you know, that's the way you know that's the way he was talking.
- 17:20SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 17:21SPEAKER_11: But he did have somebody's phone in his pants.
- 17:24SPEAKER_11: So I think that was just his way of like, you know, hey, put the phone down and enjoy the show.
- 17:29SPEAKER_11: And that I agree with.
- 17:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_11: I I agree with that.
- 17:32SPEAKER_11: Because, you know, every time you see a concert now, all you see is just like this sea of hands with, you know, rectangles.
- 17:39SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 17:40SPEAKER_11: It's just like, you know, we never did that.
- 17:42SPEAKER_11: Come on, man.
- 17:43SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 17:44SPEAKER_11: So I don't know.
- 17:45SPEAKER_11: Uh I agree.
- 17:45SPEAKER_11: I agree with him on that.
- 17:46SPEAKER_09: So well, uh, it's funny that you say uh you were talking about cell phones, because you know, those used to be lighters.
- 17:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 17:54SPEAKER_09: Um and I know what they're you know, they use them to show their support now, but they also use them just to videotape.
- 18:03SPEAKER_09: Uh I was gonna try and get into this.
- 18:05SPEAKER_09: Never mind, I can't do it.
- 18:06SPEAKER_09: Uh, because I have my my phone is upstairs.
- 18:09SPEAKER_09: Um you know when I'm going to a concert, granted, I I I will videotape a a few seconds of a show just for posterity.
- 18:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 18:20SPEAKER_09: There are people there that are holding their phones up and then.
- 18:24SPEAKER_09: The entire time.
- 18:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, the entire time.
- 18:25SPEAKER_09: It's like, enjoy the concert.
- 18:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_09: You know, it's it's just such a different mentality today.
- 18:31SPEAKER_11: And and you know I remember when you and I went to see uh BB King.
- 18:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 18:38SPEAKER_11: I mean, we took some pictures of them.
- 18:39SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 18:39SPEAKER_11: Obviously.
- 18:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_11: But I mean, most of the time we were just like, oh, it's BB King.
- 18:43SPEAKER_09: And we were dancing, yeah.
- 18:44SPEAKER_09: We were having a great time.
- 18:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah, just you know, just you know, soaking in BB King.
- 18:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know.
- 18:49SPEAKER_09: So um I think uh and I read a thing just before we came down here, there was a thing that said Oh, Christopher Nolan.
- 18:56SPEAKER_09: You know who Christopher Nolan is?
- 18:57SPEAKER_09: Director.
- 18:59SPEAKER_11: Batman, right.
- 19:00SPEAKER_09: He put out a thing on his social media that said Um you should buy physical copies of movies from now on.
- 19:12SPEAKER_11: I I kinda agree with that, yeah.
- 19:14SPEAKER_09: Uh because they can't take it away from you.
- 19:17SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 19:18SPEAKER_09: They're not gonna come to your house and take it away from you.
- 19:20SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 19:20SPEAKER_09: Which makes sense.
- 19:21SPEAKER_09: Streaming, if you stream, it's gone.
- 19:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they they they even if you buy it, yeah, you don't really own it according to Amazon.
- 19:29SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 19:29SPEAKER_11: They they still own it.
- 19:30SPEAKER_11: They they could shut it off and you know, get rid of it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 19:33SPEAKER_09: So he's like he's he's telling people to go and buy physical copies of movies, which leads me to just my my technology can go so far, and you know, we we talked about AI and everything.
- 19:46SPEAKER_09: I haven't written a song in in almost two years.
- 19:50SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 19:50SPEAKER_09: And it's really it's really bothering me, it's really driving me crazy.
- 19:56SPEAKER_09: You know, I typically if I have an idea, I will put it on my phone.
- 20:00SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 20:01SPEAKER_09: Uh, which is great, you know, in my in the uh voice memos app on my phone, which is you know, I've I've done that before.
- 20:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_09: Um but it just sits there.
- 20:12SPEAKER_09: It doesn't go anywhere.
- 20:13SPEAKER_09: Like I don't send the file anywhere, I just keep it there and it it'll go like if I get a new phone it'll go with the new phone, and but it just it still sits there.
- 20:26SPEAKER_09: I don't do anything with it.
- 20:27SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 20:28SPEAKER_09: So and I just miss I just miss the immediacy or maybe it's I don't know.
- 20:37SPEAKER_09: Anyway, I on a whim this week, I made a purchase.
- 20:41SPEAKER_09: It gets here on Friday.
- 20:44SPEAKER_09: I bought I was gonna show it to you, that's what I was trying to do.
- 20:48SPEAKER_09: That's why I was trying to log to my Amazon.
- 20:52SPEAKER_09: No.
- 20:53SPEAKER_09: Um do you remember those old um tape recorders where you where the thing opens up and put the tape in and fold it down and you can like talk into it?
- 21:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 21:06SPEAKER_09: I bought one.
- 21:07SPEAKER_09: Wow, they still make them?
- 21:08SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 21:09SPEAKER_09: And this one is a it's a modern version, but it's this it's what it is.
- 21:12SPEAKER_09: Is it and I bought two cassette tapes, blank cassette tapes.
- 21:14SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 21:16SPEAKER_09: And I'm hoping that that spurs like if I'm sitting and playing guitar, I just hit record.
- 21:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 21:23SPEAKER_11: Is it the record where you have to hit the play and the record button?
- 21:26SPEAKER_11: I think so.
- 21:27SPEAKER_11: That's the best.
- 21:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I think so.
- 21:29SPEAKER_11: That's the best.
- 21:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but this is this has like modern things as well.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: It has a microphone that comes with it, but it also I think you can hook a USB into it.
- 21:37SPEAKER_09: Oh but it's fun to say it's an old fashioned.
- 21:41SPEAKER_09: It was it wasn't that expensive, so it's probably a piece of crap, but still.
- 21:44SPEAKER_09: Um I'm looking forward to seeing if that spurs anything, just just like create creative wise.
- 21:50SPEAKER_11: Oh, sure.
- 21:51SPEAKER_09: You know, um, because I think taking a step back from technology would be even better than that would be one of those old real.
- 22:01SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 22:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_09: Finding real to real tape would be.
- 22:06SPEAKER_11: That's what I'm saying.
- 22:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_09: You can get it get it on like uh That's what Justin Hawkins said.
- 22:10SPEAKER_11: eBay or something.
- 22:11SPEAKER_11: He was uh I was why I can't remember what he was talking about.
- 22:13SPEAKER_11: He was like, Yeah, nobody records on analog tapes because somebody's hoarding it all, and then he kept like looking back stuff like that.
- 22:22SPEAKER_11: But yeah, I mean you know I used to have a real to real team.
- 22:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you did.
- 22:25SPEAKER_11: I remember that.
- 22:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:26SPEAKER_11: I remember my uncles had one.
- 22:28SPEAKER_11: Uh I used to play with it when I was a kid.
- 22:30SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 22:30SPEAKER_11: And it was cool, man, because it was huge.
- 22:32SPEAKER_11: It was like it was like the size of the wall of tunes, and you know, and you know, the wheels were about the size of tractor wheels, and you had to hit you had to basically, you know, like you know, click it on and play it, you know.
- 22:44SPEAKER_09: My favorite thing to do, because I was in radio uh back when reel to reels were a thing.
- 22:50SPEAKER_09: And my favorite thing to do you know how I love making commercials and and things, yeah, right.
- 22:56SPEAKER_09: Well, you can do all that now on on computer, and it's just like instantaneous.
- 23:04SPEAKER_09: When I was doing it on reel to reel, I would have to splice the tape.
- 23:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_09: You know, I'd find the spot where I want to uh cut, I'd cut it, and then I'd cut another spot, and then I'd spl actually use actual tape, splicing tape.
- 23:19SPEAKER_09: But it was awesome.
- 23:20SPEAKER_09: It was so fun.
- 23:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean that that's a skill, man.
- 23:23SPEAKER_09: It's it's it's and it's like, am I going to completely ruin this if I cut it in the wrong place?
- 23:30SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna have to do the whole thing over again.
- 23:32SPEAKER_09: You you always you know, that was always a pro a possibility, which made it ex more exciting.
- 23:38SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_11: I mean you really gotta concentrate on what you're doing because if you make a mistake, I mean there's no going back.
- 23:42SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 23:43SPEAKER_11: You gotta do it all over again.
- 23:44SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 23:45SPEAKER_09: And I had such a blast.
- 23:46SPEAKER_09: That was some of my favorite things to do with spice tape.
- 23:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, no, that's that's awesome.
- 23:51SPEAKER_09: So anyway, that comes on Friday.
- 23:53SPEAKER_09: Um that'll be fun.
- 23:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I'll just you know, I'll see.
- 23:58SPEAKER_07: Click note itself.
- 24:02SPEAKER_07: Make a song.
- 24:03SPEAKER_09: I should tell you, um Let me tell you uh some of the um while we're right here, some of the songs the CDs that I got from uh KMH music recently.
- 24:15SPEAKER_11: Recently.
- 24:16SPEAKER_09: Um that pile right there?
- 24:18SPEAKER_09: Well, that's not all of this.
- 24:20SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 24:20SPEAKER_09: Um I don't know if I've talked about some of these.
- 24:25SPEAKER_09: Uh and I some of these you're not gonna be.
- 24:28SPEAKER_09: No, those are the ones we did on uh um Wall Street.
- 24:32SPEAKER_09: So let's see.
- 24:34SPEAKER_04: Not that one.
- 24:36SPEAKER_04: This one Actually, no, not that one.
- 24:41SPEAKER_11: Not that one.
- 24:42SPEAKER_13: Not that one.
- 24:44SPEAKER_13: Not that one.
- 24:47SPEAKER_04: Not that one.
- 24:53SPEAKER_04: This one.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: You're not gonna know who half of these people are there any CDs left there?
- 25:09SPEAKER_11: Uh you're running you're running out of hand.
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 25:12SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 25:14SPEAKER_09: So, and I'll explain why I got these CDs.
- 25:20SPEAKER_09: So, uh KMH Music has a vinyl uh selection, but they also have uh some somebody has donated a bunch of CDs.
- 25:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:30SPEAKER_11: Uh so much so that we say a bunch, we mean thousands.
- 25:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well, so much so that he he doesn't have room to put them out.
- 25:36SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 25:37SPEAKER_09: So um there's a secret stash somewhere in the store.
- 25:40SPEAKER_09: I won't tell you where it is, but he allows me to go down and look.
- 25:43SPEAKER_09: And he he he is selling them and he's selling them online as well.
- 25:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:47SPEAKER_11: Um but he sells them on eBay and stuff.
- 25:50SPEAKER_11: Right, yeah.
- 25:50SPEAKER_09: So whoever donated a bunch of these CDs has like the same taste in music that I have to a certain degree.
- 25:58SPEAKER_09: I'm a big singer-songwriter guy.
- 26:00SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 26:01SPEAKER_09: Um Right.
- 26:02SPEAKER_09: And some of these some of these CDs I didn't have.
- 26:06SPEAKER_09: So, and you know, I'm not gonna say that we get a good deal uh at KMH music, but we get a good deal at KMH music.
- 26:13SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_11: Um we kinda we kind of part owners a little bit.
- 26:19SPEAKER_09: Like a share.
- 26:20SPEAKER_11: We're like share owners in it.
- 26:22SPEAKER_11: Shareholders, yeah.
- 26:23SPEAKER_09: So I have, let's see, let me organize, because uh some of these are doubles.
- 26:27SPEAKER_09: Not doubles, but uh for example, I have two of those.
- 26:32SPEAKER_09: Uh you mean the same same person.
- 26:35SPEAKER_09: Same person, yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_09: So I want to where is this?
- 26:40SPEAKER_09: And this is basically just to this is uh this is a great name for a band.
- 26:50SPEAKER_09: Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women.
- 26:52SPEAKER_09: That is a great name.
- 26:53SPEAKER_09: Uh it's he's a singer-songwriter, but his band is all women.
- 26:57SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 26:57SPEAKER_11: That's pretty cool.
- 26:58SPEAKER_11: That is a good idea.
- 26:59SPEAKER_09: And uh so Dave Alvin is along the lines of John Hyatt.
- 27:02SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: Um same with Greg Trooper.
- 27:05SPEAKER_09: Greg Trooper is a singer-songwriter.
- 27:07SPEAKER_09: Uh who He's got nice legs.
- 27:08SPEAKER_09: Who uh recently passed away.
- 27:10SPEAKER_09: Well, not recently, probably four or five years ago he passed away.
- 27:13SPEAKER_09: Uh great songwriter in the style of John Hyatt as well.
- 27:17SPEAKER_09: Darden Smith, singer-songwriter from Texas.
- 27:20SPEAKER_09: This is one of his first albums.
- 27:21SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 27:21SPEAKER_09: Little Victories.
- 27:23SPEAKER_09: Lucinda Williams.
- 27:24SPEAKER_09: Oh, I know her.
- 27:25SPEAKER_09: I'm not I was never a huge fan of her of her voice.
- 27:29SPEAKER_09: But again, in the very beginning of my Hyatt uh uh affliction, I wasn't a big fan of Hyatt's voice.
- 27:38SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 27:38SPEAKER_09: But it didn't take long for it to grow on me.
- 27:40SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_09: She's an amazing songwriter.
- 27:43SPEAKER_09: Uh I love her songs.
- 27:44SPEAKER_09: I d I wasn't crazy about her delivery.
- 27:46SPEAKER_11: Didn't she do a song with Hootie on their uh Scattered Smothered and uh you're thinking of Nancy Griffith?
- 27:53SPEAKER_09: That's who I'm thinking of.
- 27:53SPEAKER_09: Nancy Griffith, who's also very has a very sweet voice.
- 27:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:56SPEAKER_09: But Lucinda Williams is an amazing songwriter in the vein of John Hyatt.
- 28:01SPEAKER_09: Uh I just never liked her voice, so I never bought any of her stuff.
- 28:04SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 28:05SPEAKER_09: So I picked this up just as an appreciation for her songwriting.
- 28:09SPEAKER_09: Rodney Crowell, the outsider.
- 28:10SPEAKER_09: Oh, he's great.
- 28:11SPEAKER_09: Uh Chris Rhea, who's uh very much like uh Mark Knoffler.
- 28:16SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 28:17SPEAKER_09: Uh British blues uh guitar player.
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: Uh fool if you think it's over.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: You know that one?
- 28:24SPEAKER_09: Uh ringing a bell.
- 28:26SPEAKER_09: The Dead Reckoners.
- 28:28SPEAKER_09: Uh that's a cool name.
- 28:30SPEAKER_09: From 1996.
- 28:32SPEAKER_09: This was a Nashville outfit who started their own record company, Dead Reckoning Records, uh, because they didn't like the establishment, the Nashville establishment and the way they operated and uh some of the stuff that they put out amazing.
- 28:48SPEAKER_09: Uh Nick Lowe.
- 28:50SPEAKER_09: Hi sorry.
- 28:51SPEAKER_09: Nick Lowe.
- 28:52SPEAKER_09: Yep, he's uh he's done a lot with Hyatt.
- 28:54SPEAKER_09: Done a lot with Hyatt.
- 28:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:56SPEAKER_09: Um The Nodding Hillbillies, which is Mark Knoffler and a couple other people.
- 29:01SPEAKER_09: They guy Fletcher, and they do like like country songs, but it's it's kind of neat.
- 29:08SPEAKER_09: Slade Cleves is a is a folk singer who has roots in Maine, actually.
- 29:14SPEAKER_09: Bruce Coburn, who's a Canadian singer-songwriter, fantastic.
- 29:18SPEAKER_09: Um I'll get to come to that one in a second.
- 29:21SPEAKER_09: Uh oh, Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch, and Fats Kaplan, they are members of the Dead Reckoners, officially.
- 29:28SPEAKER_09: Robert Earl Keane, a Texas singer-songwriter.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 29:31SPEAKER_09: Bat Kennedy, uh we lost not too long ago as well, but he was an underground kind of songwriter.
- 29:40SPEAKER_09: Dan Penn, who wrote songs in the 60s, like soulful songs, some that you might know.
- 29:49SPEAKER_09: I'm your puppet.
- 29:49SPEAKER_09: Have you ever heard that I'm your puppet?
- 29:52SPEAKER_09: Um anyway, love his songwriting.
- 29:56SPEAKER_09: Chris Smither, who's a blues acoustic blues uh guy.
- 30:01SPEAKER_09: I've got two albums from Chris Smither.
- 30:03SPEAKER_09: Uh Guy Clark, who is a Texas singer-songwriter.
- 30:07SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 30:08SPEAKER_09: Um Some Days You Write the Song, some days the song writes you.
- 30:13SPEAKER_09: That's that's one of his uh one of his uh songs.
- 30:17SPEAKER_09: Um and I got two Van Morrison albums.
- 30:20SPEAKER_09: Down the Road and Roll with the Punches.
- 30:23SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 30:24SPEAKER_09: And it's it's it's all awesome.
- 30:27SPEAKER_09: It's all awesome.
- 30:29SPEAKER_09: So thank you, KMH Music.
- 30:31SPEAKER_09: For being awesome.
- 30:34SPEAKER_09: For being awesome.
- 30:35SPEAKER_05: Uh but I got these to like I told you before, I haven't written a song in two years.
- 30:41SPEAKER_09: I'm trying to motivate motivate.
- 30:44SPEAKER_09: I'm trying to get inspiration inspiration.
- 30:46SPEAKER_09: Because these guys write lyrics.
- 30:50SPEAKER_09: Because that's that's my weakness.
- 30:52SPEAKER_09: I have I I to sit down and and come up with a a story or words for a song, it's it's hard these days.
- 31:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:01SPEAKER_09: Uh you know, uh we've talked about this before too.
- 31:04SPEAKER_09: Um I never people had always asked me wh why I never wanted to teach music.
- 31:09SPEAKER_09: And that's the reason, is because I would the I'm not saying that it would take the joy out of it for me, but it's it's a different thing.
- 31:20SPEAKER_09: I can't it's like I I have to turn it's like a switch.
- 31:24SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 31:24SPEAKER_09: It's like I'm teaching these kids ha uh about music, so that switch is on.
- 31:29SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 31:30SPEAKER_09: And and this is what's annoying too.
- 31:32SPEAKER_09: And I'm just you know thank you for humoring me.
- 31:35SPEAKER_09: Um when school is out and summer is here, that switch goes off.
- 31:42SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 31:42SPEAKER_09: And I just start to get like like I got these for inspiration.
- 31:47SPEAKER_09: I'm getting that tape recorder.
- 31:48SPEAKER_09: I just start getting back and trying to write songs and and do that and now I'm going back to school next week.
- 31:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 31:56SPEAKER_09: You know, so it's a cycle and it's a pattern and it's annoying.
- 32:00SPEAKER_09: It really is.
- 32:01SPEAKER_09: I get that.
- 32:01SPEAKER_09: So I'm I'm trying to I'm trying to break through that pattern um any way that I can.
- 32:07SPEAKER_09: Because this not being able to write a song is really just driving me crazy.
- 32:12SPEAKER_11: And I think that's why people, you know, artists, you know, they'll when they tour, they don't really write anymore.
- 32:17SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 32:18SPEAKER_11: But when they're done touring, that's all they do.
- 32:20SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 32:21SPEAKER_11: You know, because it now now you know it's like you said, you know, flip a switch.
- 32:24SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 32:24SPEAKER_11: Now you're in songwriter mode.
- 32:26SPEAKER_09: Well, there are some people that can write on on tour, that can write on the bus.
- 32:29SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_11: I mean, yeah, I'm not saying there isn't.
- 32:31SPEAKER_11: I mean, we still do it.
- 32:33SPEAKER_09: It is a s it is.
- 32:34SPEAKER_09: It's a different animal entirely.
- 32:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's a discipline.
- 32:36SPEAKER_09: You know, that's what it is.
- 32:37SPEAKER_09: So I'm trying to I'm trying to get back into that.
- 32:39SPEAKER_09: It's me.
- 32:40SPEAKER_09: It's hard.
- 32:40SPEAKER_09: I get you, dude.
- 32:42SPEAKER_09: Um I do have a list.
- 32:44SPEAKER_09: I don't know if we have to go over the whole list.
- 32:46SPEAKER_11: I'll let you decide because we're we are going over every single one.
- 32:51SPEAKER_11: No, I'm just kidding.
- 32:51SPEAKER_11: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 32:53SPEAKER_09: Ultimate classicrock.com has a list, and uh, we maybe we've done something like this before.
- 32:57SPEAKER_09: Um the top fifty yacht rock songs.
- 33:00SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 33:00SPEAKER_09: Of course it's their opinion.
- 33:02SPEAKER_09: Um do you want to do all 50?
- 33:03SPEAKER_11: Do we should look we should look at them.
- 33:07SPEAKER_11: I w I want to see what they came up with.
- 33:08SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 33:09SPEAKER_11: All right, let's do that.
- 33:10SPEAKER_11: I mean, we don't have to play every one of them.
- 33:12SPEAKER_11: No, and we won't.
- 33:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we won't.
- 33:13SPEAKER_07: So um all right.
- 33:15SPEAKER_11: Are these in any numerical order?
- 33:17SPEAKER_11: Are they just like randomly?
- 33:19SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 33:20SPEAKER_09: Given its undefined parameters, the genre genre has become one of music's most expansive corners from number one hits to deeper cut gems.
- 33:27SPEAKER_09: We've compiled a list of fifty top yacht rock songs to set sail to below.
- 33:35SPEAKER_09: So I it it says uh it doesn't say that they're in order.
- 33:39SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 33:40SPEAKER_09: It says fifty top.
- 33:41SPEAKER_09: Or not the top fifty, but fifty top songs.
- 33:45SPEAKER_09: I don't know if that makes any sense or not.
- 33:47SPEAKER_09: Thunder Island, Jay Ferguson.
- 33:49SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 33:49SPEAKER_07: That's a good one.
- 33:50SPEAKER_07: You know that song?
- 33:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 33:50SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna play that one because I don't know that a lot of people do know that song.
- 33:54SPEAKER_09: Um it's pretty great.
- 34:00SPEAKER_09: I mean, I can see me stay like my yacht right now.
- 34:40SPEAKER_09: Okay, that's what I'm gonna play.
- 34:42SPEAKER_09: Uh you probably recognize it.
- 34:44SPEAKER_09: I know you do, but if you haven't heard heard that song, I bet you have.
- 34:48SPEAKER_09: Does it make any sense?
- 34:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you probably heard it.
- 34:50SPEAKER_09: You just didn't know what it was called.
- 34:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah, exactly.
- 34:52SPEAKER_09: That's Jay Ferguson, Thunder Island.
- 34:54SPEAKER_09: Southern Cross, Crosby Steels and Nash.
- 34:56SPEAKER_09: I don't have to play.
- 34:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I don't have to play that song.
- 34:59SPEAKER_09: Everybody knows that song.
- 35:00SPEAKER_09: Ooh, Jackie Blue, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.
- 35:03SPEAKER_09: Do you know that song?
- 35:04SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 35:05SPEAKER_09: I bet you do.
- 35:06SPEAKER_09: You'll oh yeah.
- 35:13SPEAKER_09: And for all intents and purposes, uh, except for Crosby Steels and Nash, this one and Jay Ferguson are relatively one-hit wonders, aren't they?
- 35:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:24SPEAKER_11: I mean, or at least I think that was that was the thing with most of Yacht Rock, is just outside of the big names like the Doobie Brothers, yeah, Michael McDonnell, too.
- 35:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah, there might have been one or two songs, but you never heard from them.
- 35:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:36SPEAKER_11: Benny Mardonas, you know, stuff like that.
- 35:39SPEAKER_09: Into the night?
- 35:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:40SPEAKER_09: I bet you I wonder if it's a good one.
- 35:41SPEAKER_11: I bet that songs on here.
- 35:43SPEAKER_09: Uh this and again, this can't be a comprehensive, this can't be a uh top list because Sailing from Christopher Cross is at number 47.
- 35:53SPEAKER_09: Oh, no, that's way too much.
- 35:54SPEAKER_09: That's way yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_09: So way up there.
- 35:56SPEAKER_09: This is just um this is just a great song one.
- 35:59SPEAKER_09: Great song.
- 36:00SPEAKER_09: Great song.
- 36:00SPEAKER_09: Just the two of us, Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr.
- 36:03SPEAKER_09: Just the Two of Us.
- 36:06SPEAKER_09: Sarah Smile, Daryl Oates.
- 36:08SPEAKER_11: I never considered Hollow Notes Yacht Rock until I started listening to S uh Sirius XM, the Yacht Rock channel.
- 36:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:15SPEAKER_11: They play them all the time.
- 36:16SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 36:17SPEAKER_11: You know, like older Hollow Notes, not the 80s pop stuff.
- 36:21SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 36:22SPEAKER_11: But yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_09: Uh Rosanna from Toto.
- 36:25SPEAKER_11: See, I don't consider that I don't really consider that right yacht rock though.
- 36:29SPEAKER_11: I mean, I could see it, it could be.
- 36:30SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 36:31SPEAKER_11: But I don't consider it yacht rock.
- 36:33SPEAKER_11: Is it played on Yacht Rock radio?
- 36:35SPEAKER_09: Toto?
- 36:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:36SPEAKER_09: Well no, Rosanna.
- 36:37SPEAKER_11: Rosanna, I never heard it on Yacht Rock.
- 36:39SPEAKER_09: I've heard other Toto songs on Yacht Rock.
- 36:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but never I've never heard Rosanna on there.
- 36:44SPEAKER_09: No.
- 36:44SPEAKER_09: Uh Diamond Girl, Seals and Cross.
- 36:47SPEAKER_09: Good song.
- 36:47SPEAKER_08: Diamond Girl.
- 36:49SPEAKER_09: Uh oh, I gotta play this one.
- 36:51SPEAKER_09: Bobby Caldwell.

- 36:55SPEAKER_09: Great song.
- 36:56SPEAKER_09: This is this is almost like the epitome of of Yat.
- 36:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, as far as I'm concerned.
- 37:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:01SPEAKER_11: I mean, if you were looking up songs, yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, and my internet is working fantastic.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: I guess you wanna know where I've been.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: I just to find the love with him.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: I came back to let you know.
- 37:34SPEAKER_09: Interesting about this guy, if I'm right, if it's if it's the same guy.
- 37:40SPEAKER_11: This guy's white.
- 37:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I saw a uh YouTube video.
- 37:45SPEAKER_11: It was one of those reaction videos.
- 37:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:47SPEAKER_11: It was a couple black guys didn't realize Bobby Caldwell was white running at some.
- 37:51SPEAKER_11: I mean, listen to him.
- 37:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:55SPEAKER_11: He sounds like a black guy.
- 37:59SPEAKER_11: And that's a compliment.
- 38:00SPEAKER_11: Oh, absolutely.
- 38:01SPEAKER_11: I mean, like, we always thought Rick Ashley was black.
- 38:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:04SPEAKER_11: You know, everybody was like, oh yeah, black eyed.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: Nope, nope.
- 38:07SPEAKER_09: Uh, we just disagree, Dave Mason.
- 38:10SPEAKER_09: You know that song?
- 38:11SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 38:12SPEAKER_07: I believe I do.
- 38:13SPEAKER_07: Well, let me play it.
- 38:14SPEAKER_07: Just play it.
- 38:15SPEAKER_09: Just play a little bit of it.
- 38:16SPEAKER_11: So I make sure I do.
- 38:18SPEAKER_09: You in a heartbeat, you'll get it.
- 38:20SPEAKER_09: As soon as the first couple uh lines.
- 38:24SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 38:25unknown: Yep.
- 38:26SPEAKER_09: It's just you and me, and we just disagree.
- 38:28SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 38:28SPEAKER_09: Crazy Love from Poco.
- 38:30SPEAKER_09: Oh, great song.
- 38:31SPEAKER_09: Great song.
- 38:31SPEAKER_09: Great song, man.
- 38:32SPEAKER_09: Uh Eddie Rabbit.
- 38:33SPEAKER_09: There you go, Mom.
- 38:34SPEAKER_09: There you go, Mom.
- 38:35SPEAKER_09: Suspicion.
- 38:36SPEAKER_09: Suspicions.
- 38:37SPEAKER_09: See, I never would put him in Yarron.
- 38:40SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 38:40SPEAKER_09: I wouldn't put that.
- 38:41SPEAKER_09: Even that song.
- 38:42SPEAKER_09: I mean, let me play it just for a second.
- 38:45SPEAKER_11: Uh it does have that feel to it, yeah.
- 38:52SPEAKER_09: Now that you yeah, but I would never have put Eddie Rabbit in Yah.
- 38:56SPEAKER_11: No, no, you you always heard Eddie on the country station.
- 38:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:59SPEAKER_11: But this is very yacht rock, yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad that I met you, baby.
- 39:08SPEAKER_09: I did love Eddie Rabbit.
- 39:10SPEAKER_09: My mother, you know, my mother isn't as big a fan as your mother is.
- 39:14SPEAKER_09: No.
- 39:14SPEAKER_09: But we had eight tracks of Eddie Rabbit.
- 39:18SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 39:19SPEAKER_09: Step by step.
- 39:20SPEAKER_09: Eight tracks.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: What was the bigger?
- 39:31SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, that's yacht rock.
- 39:33SPEAKER_09: That is y'all.
- 39:35SPEAKER_09: It's interesting.
- 39:36SPEAKER_09: How how we we listen to it, we're like, oh yeah, that's yacht rock.
- 39:40SPEAKER_09: What makes it yacht rock?
- 39:42SPEAKER_09: Is it the instrumentation?
- 39:43SPEAKER_09: I think it's just the vibe.
- 39:45SPEAKER_09: The vibe?
- 39:45SPEAKER_09: It's a vibe.
- 39:46SPEAKER_09: So it's so which how do you create the vibe?
- 39:49SPEAKER_09: With the instrumentation, with the seventh chords, maybe like yeah, you know the soft, it's softer chords.
- 39:57SPEAKER_09: I think it's like you know a lot of major sevenths.
- 40:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:01SPEAKER_09: Um, yeah.
- 40:02SPEAKER_11: You know, everybody knows that major chords are happy chords, minor chords are sad chords.
- 40:07SPEAKER_11: So I hate this song.
- 40:10SPEAKER_09: Starbuck Moonlight feels right.
- 40:13SPEAKER_09: I hate this song.
- 40:15SPEAKER_05: Did a little didlit.
- 40:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's not my favorite, but it's a it's it's not bad.
- 40:20SPEAKER_09: It's not terrible.
- 40:22SPEAKER_09: Same old leg sign, Dan Fogelberg.
- 40:23SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 40:24SPEAKER_09: Uh great song.
- 40:24SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 40:25SPEAKER_09: Uh Eye in the Sky.
- 40:27SPEAKER_09: Oh, I love this song.
- 40:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, great song, man.
- 40:28SPEAKER_09: Alan Parsons Project.
- 40:56SPEAKER_09: That's an underrated band.
- 40:58SPEAKER_09: Really is, yeah.
- 40:59SPEAKER_09: I mean, they had a uh a number of hit songs, well not big hit songs, but they're always they're always they've always been there, and you just look at the name, you're like Alan Parsons Project.
- 41:10SPEAKER_11: But you know, you're right.
- 41:11SPEAKER_09: You're like, well, what's that about?
- 41:13SPEAKER_09: They've always been there.
- 41:14SPEAKER_09: And you know the song, you just maybe you don't put the two together.
- 41:18SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 41:18SPEAKER_09: You know, yeah.
- 41:19SPEAKER_09: Uh oh, Jackson Brown, somebody's baby.
- 41:21SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's a great song.
- 41:24SPEAKER_09: Oh, a song we just started doing uh as the Star City Syndicate for one of our So Orleans, yep.
- 41:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 41:30SPEAKER_09: Orleans which is actually really fun to play.
- 41:36SPEAKER_11: It is fun.
- 41:38SPEAKER_11: It's become one of my favorite ones.
- 41:40SPEAKER_11: Uh Nonhorns.
- 41:41SPEAKER_09: Excuse me, Nonhorns are playing.
- 41:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me too.
- 41:43SPEAKER_09: Me too.
- 41:45SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see.
- 41:47SPEAKER_09: Donald Fagan, New Frontier.
- 41:50SPEAKER_09: Now I know Donald Fagan, and I know this song, the Nightfly or this album, The Nightfly.
- 41:55SPEAKER_09: I'm just gonna hit play because this the song title doesn't ring a bell yet.
- 41:59SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 42:00SPEAKER_09: So let's see.
- 42:01SPEAKER_09: I bet we know the song.
- 42:02SPEAKER_09: I bet we do.
- 42:09SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 42:09SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 42:13SPEAKER_08: Isn't is Nightfly Is that the one that What a Beautiful World This Could Be?
- 42:20SPEAKER_08: Is that the album that that's on?
- 42:22SPEAKER_08: What a Beautiful World This Could Be.
- 42:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me, man.
- 42:25SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 42:26SPEAKER_09: Sail on Sailor, The Beach Boys.
- 42:28SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 42:28SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 42:29SPEAKER_09: Uh Time Al Stewart.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Time Pathogeth.
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: You ever heard that song?
- 42:35SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 42:35SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 42:36SPEAKER_11: I had to It kind of weirds me out a little bit.
- 42:39SPEAKER_11: A little bit, you know, but I like it.
- 42:40SPEAKER_11: It's not bad.
- 42:41SPEAKER_09: Al Stewart always kind of weirded me out uh anyway.
- 42:45SPEAKER_09: But this song is almost seven minutes long.
- 42:48SPEAKER_09: I don't know if you knew that.
- 42:49SPEAKER_09: Is it that long?
- 42:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 42:52SPEAKER_09: Um I always used to make fun of Al Stewart's delivery.
- 43:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 43:01SPEAKER_11: I mean, it's distinctive, and distinctive makes you stand out a little bit.
- 43:05SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 43:35SPEAKER_11: Because every time I hear you're the cat, that's all I can think of.
- 43:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 43:39SPEAKER_11: You're not the cat.
- 43:40SPEAKER_11: You know, I'm just like, dude, come on.
- 43:42SPEAKER_11: Time pass the chest.
- 43:44SPEAKER_09: Uh Paul Davis, I go crazy.
- 43:46SPEAKER_11: Paul Davis is great, man.
- 43:48SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 43:48SPEAKER_11: That's an awesome song.
- 43:49SPEAKER_09: Uh biggest part of me, Ambrosia.
- 43:51SPEAKER_09: Now, you want to talk about Yacht Rock.
- 43:53SPEAKER_09: Oh my god.
- 43:54SPEAKER_11: Ambrosia, yeah.
- 43:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 43:55SPEAKER_09: Um, I think isn't Michael McDonald on the
- 44:00SPEAKER_11: Song Michael McDonald is probably on every single one of those songs.
- 44:04SPEAKER_09: Uh let me re read this here.
- 44:09SPEAKER_09: Mike come up a little corner.
- 44:11SPEAKER_09: So you followed the time.
- 44:12SPEAKER_09: Yep, he is.
- 44:13SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 44:13SPEAKER_09: So let's see.
- 44:14SPEAKER_09: Let me read this.
- 44:15SPEAKER_09: Songwriter David Pack taped the original demo of this song on a reel to reel.
- 44:20SPEAKER_09: When everyone else was running late, finishing just in time, he says, I was waiting for my family to get in the car so I could go to a 4th of July celebration in Malibu.
- 44:29SPEAKER_09: I turned off my machine and heard the car horn honking for me.
- 44:33SPEAKER_09: Still, David Pack was worried that the hastily written first verse, which rhymed Horizon and Horizon and Realizin, might come off a little corny.
- 44:45SPEAKER_09: So he followed the time-honored yacht rock tradition of calling in Michael McDonald.
- 44:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah, see, there you go.
- 44:51SPEAKER_09: To sing heartfelt background vocals.
- 45:11SPEAKER_09: Um great song.
- 45:12SPEAKER_09: Africa from Toto.
- 45:14SPEAKER_11: Again, I don't really consider it yacht rock, but it totally is.
- 45:17SPEAKER_11: You know, I consider that more yacht rock.
- 45:19SPEAKER_11: More than Rosanna.
- 45:20SPEAKER_11: Than Rosanna, for sure.
- 45:22SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 45:22SPEAKER_09: Uh Hello, it's me, Todd Ros.
- 45:24SPEAKER_11: I always get mad at reaction video people that do Africa.
- 45:29SPEAKER_11: They're full of crap.
- 45:30SPEAKER_11: They are so stupid.
- 45:31SPEAKER_11: No, you you've heard this song.
- 45:32SPEAKER_11: Come on.
- 45:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_11: Come on.
- 45:35SPEAKER_11: I was like, you you've never heard Africa.
- 45:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:38SPEAKER_09: How I watched one where someone had never heard Sweet Home Alabama.
- 45:43SPEAKER_11: What rock are you living in?
- 45:45SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 45:45SPEAKER_09: You are full of crap.
- 45:46SPEAKER_11: I don't care where you are, man.
- 45:48SPEAKER_11: You've heard that song somewhere.
- 45:49SPEAKER_09: Uh Hello It's Me, Todd Rundgren.

- 46:23SPEAKER_01: You let me hear Robert.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Hey Dubai Paradise.

- 46:52SPEAKER_09: Uh Dreamweaver, Gary Wright.
- 46:53SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm true.
- 46:54SPEAKER_09: Now I don't have to play that Reminiscing Little River Band.

- 46:59SPEAKER_11: Little River Band?
- 47:00SPEAKER_11: Oh yes.
- 47:01SPEAKER_09: They had so many great songs.
- 47:03SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.

- 47:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 47:26SPEAKER_09: And how long has this been going on?
- 47:29SPEAKER_09: Did you know that this is not about a woman?
- 47:32SPEAKER_09: This is about a band member.
- 47:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 47:35SPEAKER_11: We did we talk about this?
- 47:37SPEAKER_09: Maybe.
- 47:37SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 47:38SPEAKER_09: That band member that was moonlighting in another band.
- 47:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, another band, yeah.
- 47:41SPEAKER_09: And didn't tell them about it?
- 47:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_09: And he was missing.
- 47:43SPEAKER_09: How long has this been going on?

- 48:09SPEAKER_09: I think we're louder than Anthony.
- 48:11SPEAKER_11: I think we are too.
- 48:12SPEAKER_09: Because we're all rock and having a lot of ordinarily I would say the Eagles do not fit into Yacht Rock.
- 48:19SPEAKER_09: But this song.
- 48:22SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.

- 49:32SPEAKER_03: When you walked into the room, there was a big one.
- 49:37SPEAKER_09: Even if we don't play it out.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:39SPEAKER_09: You know, even if we don't play it as part of a show, I just want to jam it.
- 49:43SPEAKER_09: I think it was fun.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: But I could not get you back.

- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Heck yeah, dude.
- 52:38SPEAKER_09: Wouldn't this be a great opening song for a set?
- 52:40SPEAKER_11: And I want you to do a friggin' killer guitar solo at the end of it like Christopher Cross does, man.
- 52:46SPEAKER_11: But you can't hear it.
- 52:48SPEAKER_09: It doesn't matter.
- 52:48SPEAKER_09: We're gonna put it in there anyway.
- 52:50SPEAKER_09: What I mean is he does an amazing guitar solo, but they buried it in the mix.
- 52:57SPEAKER_09: Wouldn't this be a great song to start with I've never played it?
- 53:32SPEAKER_06: Here we go.
- 53:34SPEAKER_19: Such a long winner though.
- 53:38SPEAKER_09: I think of that skip that Rick Moran is doing.

- 54:14SPEAKER_09: Why couldn't we?
- 54:18SPEAKER_11: There's only no horns in this off then.
- 54:20SPEAKER_11: Or could you put horns in this?
- 54:21SPEAKER_11: Or would this be a number?
- 54:33SPEAKER_09: You'd need uh two keyboards, I think.
- 54:36SPEAKER_09: Because one is doing the and then one's doing the d- d.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: You could probably have a horn do that, right?
- 54:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I like that.
- 54:44SPEAKER_11: I'm sure Sarah or John could write a horn part for that.
- 54:48SPEAKER_09: Uh and that's it.
- 54:48SPEAKER_09: That's their list of the 50 uh top rock songs.
- 54:52SPEAKER_13: It's so good.

- 55:20SPEAKER_11: It's caffeinated.
- 55:21SPEAKER_11: And I was like, wow, it's gotta be loaded with sugar.
- 55:24SPEAKER_11: No, there's no sugar in it.
- 55:26SPEAKER_11: I was like, this is insane.
- 55:28SPEAKER_11: So why would you need caffeinated milk?
- 55:32SPEAKER_11: It's it's like quick.
- 55:34SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 55:35SPEAKER_11: It's like dumping quick, you know, nestly quick strawberry milk and just dumped mountain dew in it.
- 55:42SPEAKER_09: Without the sugar.
- 55:43SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah.
- 55:43SPEAKER_11: And I'm just like, I I I don't understand.
- 55:45SPEAKER_11: I I just I know I was it's it's split split, I guess.

- 56:00SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna have to look into that.
- 56:01SPEAKER_11: What store did you get it at?
- 56:03SPEAKER_11: At the country farm store in Easton.
- 56:05SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 56:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 56:06SPEAKER_11: It was right there in the in the like I said, they had all three flavors, and I was just like, oh, I've never tried this for.

- 56:30SPEAKER_11: Is that any good?
- 56:31SPEAKER_11: It's just water.
- 56:32SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 56:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's all it is.
- 56:33SPEAKER_11: It's water in a can.
- 56:34SPEAKER_11: It looks like water with caffeine?
- 56:36SPEAKER_11: No.
- 56:36SPEAKER_11: No, it's just water.
- 56:39SPEAKER_09: What?
- 56:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 56:42SPEAKER_09: No, is it flavored?
- 56:43SPEAKER_11: Some you can get flavored water, yeah, but it's just basically just water.
- 56:48unknown: Oh.
- 56:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:49SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's something the guy that the guy that started it, he was at he was at one of those like Lollapalooza's or something like that.

- 57:17SPEAKER_11: All it is is water.
- 57:18SPEAKER_11: But it's in a can.
- 57:19SPEAKER_11: There's no plastic because their thing is death to plastic.

- 59:16SPEAKER_09: So the question was if there was one country song that you could only one country song that you could on a desert island um that you'd have to hear over and over and over again.
- 59:25SPEAKER_09: And so uh Bob said, mixtape answer if I was part of the triumvirant of the podcast, which I am not and do not wish to be, remember the Roman Triumvirant and what happened to Julius Caesar?
- 59:36SPEAKER_09: Ah, yes.
- 59:37SPEAKER_09: Um for a country song is a thousand miles from nowhere.
- 59:42SPEAKER_09: Dwight Yocham.
- 59:43SPEAKER_09: Oh wow.
- 59:44SPEAKER_09: That makes sense, right?
- 59:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah, totally.
- 59:47SPEAKER_11: That's perfect.
- 59:47SPEAKER_11: See, he would have won.
- 59:48SPEAKER_11: Time don't matter to me.
- 59:49SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 59:49SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 59:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's it.
- 59:50SPEAKER_06: Bob would totally won that one.
- 59:51SPEAKER_06: Oh, for sure.
- 59:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 59:52SPEAKER_06: Great choice, Bob.
- 59:53SPEAKER_06: Good job, Bob.
- 59:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 59:55SPEAKER_06: Alright, so uh what did Lovelaire.
- 59:59SPEAKER_13: No, no.
- 59:59SPEAKER_11: Oh, we gotta do your lovely judge.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_11: Uh, this is what she said.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_11: First, she said, holy poop, it's Tuesday.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_11: So she totally forgot.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_11: But I was talking to her yesterday, so I don't know.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_11: I guess we just got away from her.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_11: Um this week was rough in the simple fact that I'm not a huge country fan.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_11: But if I was, it would absolutely be George Strait.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_11: He is the king of country.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_11: This is true.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so there you go.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_11: Who picked George Strait?
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_11: Larry or you I thought it was uh cousin Larry.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_08: Which one did he pick?
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_11: Uh Amarillo by morning.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_11: It was.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_09: Yep, you're right.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_09: Uh okay, so that was what did I pick?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, I picked Vince Gilsong.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and I picked uh David Alcohol.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_11: So this week's question was uh that was the I got it here.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_11: Uh the moment when time still stands still because you saw quote the one and your heart leapt, and you will never be the same song.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_11: That's a mouthful.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_11: What did Cousin Larry have?
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_11: Okay, I wanna I haven't read what he said because he just got back to me.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_11: So Alright, let's see what Cousin Larry has to say.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_11: He always has an awesome one.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_11: Mixtay.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_11: There are so many great love songs from all genres of music.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_11: Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers comes to mind right away.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_11: My Girl by the Temptations and God Only Knows by the Beach Boys are two of my all-time faves.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_11: But who could dismiss Elvis's can't help falling in love?
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_11: That is my choice with honorable mention to Edda James at last.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_11: See, he always has such awesome honorable mentions.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_11: He does.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_11: God darn it.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_11: I wish I was as smart as cousin Larry was.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_11: He just plays football.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_04: Too many ads.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_09: I like rabbit holes.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_09: I watched a documentary yesterday on Gordon Lightfoot.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_09: Oh, wow.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_09: It was great.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_09: Um and talked about um how many people covered his songs and Elvis did a great version of uh was it rainy Another Rainy Morning or something like that.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_11: Uh I thought you were gonna say Kentucky Rain, but No, it wasn't Kentucky Rain.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_11: I love that song.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me too.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_11: Uh Kentucky Rain Catholic.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_11: Can't help following with you is Cousin Larry's Pick.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_11: What's yours?
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_11: Oh, mine mine I went kind of weird because I don't have the one.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_11: I have, you know, maybe that one that guy didn't put away.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_11: That one I saw at the mall.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_11: I don't know, I don't have that one.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_11: I'm kinda out of my league in this one.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_11: But I like I like it.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_11: I'm always out of my league.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_11: You guys are like the NFL and I'm just some guy that doesn't work at the post office.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_11: You're like the lingerie football league.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_11: I'm not I'm not I'm like I'm like the first version of the XFL.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_11: You know he hates me.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_11: That guy.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_11: Oh shoot.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_11: I did watch some of the new XFL games this season.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_11: And it's actually pretty good.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_11: It's actually pretty good football.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_09: Is the uh uh The Rock has something to do with that, doesn't it?
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_11: I think he's an investor in it, okay, you know, stuff like that.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_11: Uh so I went with um The Bare Naked Ladies.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_11: It's a late uh a later song.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_11: It's called uh Did I Say That Out Loud?
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_11: Oh wow Yeah, it's a pretty great song.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_11: It's after what's his face left uh left to a bare-naked ladies, not Ed, but the other guy.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_11: Mark?
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_11: Is that his name?
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_11: Nope, uh Steve.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_11: Steve, yes.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's just one of the forum.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I love this song.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_18: I know you're not to kiss and tell.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_18: But maybe nobody has ever kissed as well as you do.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_18: Don't know what's gonna hold of me.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_18: Alcohol or alchemy.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_18: I know you're not to kiss and tell well.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_11: That's fun.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_11: It's a fun song.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_11: I like I just like the words.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_11: I just like the chorus, it's great.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_11: I agree.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_11: So Um, alright.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_11: And you can never go wrong with Bare Naked Ladies.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_09: Bare naked ladies, did I say that out loud?
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_09: Okay, so I went a different direction.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_09: I mean, I do have the one.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_09: Um the question was, you know, the song that when you saw the one, right?
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_09: Like from across the room or whatever.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_09: So I I went I went I thought kind of funny.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_09: Um because this is what I this is the first thing that popped in my head.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_11: Ah yes, I thought about this too! This is gonna be my backup.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_09: So what I just played was a steam from Wayne's World.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_09: When he sees Tia Carrera for the first time, and it's Dreamweaver.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_09: Sorry, I mean uh like when you when you're when you're well let me let me do this here.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_09: Hold on.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_10: So Ah, Jesus.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_09: So we'll just play the song itself.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_09: But it's funnier with the Wayne World.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_09: It's way funnier with the Waynes World reference.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_09: But everybody knows this song.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_10: That bass player is a big.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_10: She makes me feel kind of funny.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_10: Like when we used to chime the gym class.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_09: Alright, so so uh can't help following in love from Elvis.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_09: Did I say that out loud from the Bare Naked Ladies?
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_09: And Dreamweaver from Gary Wright.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_09: Uh those are the choices.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_09: I didn't mean to do that.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_09: Alright, do the future.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, future.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_11: Maybe that's why they were over there.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_11: These are all the sucky ones.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_11: This is gonna go this is gonna be different.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_11: A documentary about you and your travels across Europe has been made.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_11: What artist plays during the scenic travel montages?
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_09: What like what musical artist plays during the scenic travel montage?
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_11: That's different.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that is different.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_09: I'll never remember that.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_07: We can take a picture of it for you.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_11: If you'd like.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_11: But you got the game here.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_11: You could do it.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_11: I do, yeah.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_09: But I never I remember down here.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_09: Um, uh we're gonna take a break, but before we do, um the Wall of Tunes today is gonna be a uh special edition, if it's okay with you, Doug.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_11: Fine with me.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_09: What are we doing?
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_09: Well, I wanted to uh I don't necessarily have to read um well we got a text from someone from a listener.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_09: Um which you can text us by the way if you go to the Buzz Sprout page.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_09: Uh or if you I think if you you listen wherever you listen, I think you are able to text us.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think there's a link, yeah.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_09: And so this person, I'm not gonna say who it is.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_09: They they texted us directly.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_09: Um and let me just read it to you, see if I can first one ever.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was actually, yeah.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_09: I'll see if I can leave the name out.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_09: Um it says, hey guys, uh just wanted to drop a note to let you know that you have listeners other than cousin Larry, the Ridge Runner, and the Blanchard children.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_09: I really enjoyed catching up on your podcast this summer.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_09: I always love learning something new about music every episode and laugh when I totally agree with you guys about something.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_09: Example, all vehicles should have CD players.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_09: Nothing is as good as it was in the eighties, and I don't like cold play either.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_09: Preach.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_09: I particularly enjoyed this episode because, of course, I think King George is the GOAT.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_09: But you introduced me to a few songs I hadn't heard before.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_09: I tend to listen to the box set of his all-time greatest hits.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_09: I did get to see him in concert at Gillette in June.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_09: Um, number one bucket list item and dream come true.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_09: He sang the weight of the badge and gave away a home to a wounded veteran on stage in recognition of his service and sacrifice.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_09: Such an emotional moment from a class act human being.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_09: I thought you'd appreciate it.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_09: Thanks for the entertainment.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_09: Keep it up.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_09: So that came via text.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_09: And we read it.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_09: You read it, I read it, we didn't respond.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_11: So I got another I think we read a gig or something like that.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so I got another message from this person.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_09: Um via our Facebook page.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_09: And they said, Hi guys, I wanted to let you know how much I've been enjoying your podcast this summer, and that you've been my regular companions at my summer job, especially when I'm closing up at night.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_09: After listening to an episode I particularly connected with, I sent you a text by clicking the link in the podcast, but I'm not sure you actually got it.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_09: I just finished listening to your most recent episode where again, you again referenced King George and felt it was a sign that I should try again to share it.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_09: Below is my text.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_09: Thanks for keeping me company, P.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_09: S.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_09: I sometimes find it creepy how Doug and I have the same opinions, and when I answer your questions out loud, we have the same responses.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_11: That is, you know.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_11: I'm an everyman.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_11: I'm just saying what everybody else is thinking.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_11: So nickelback sucks.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_09: So to this listener, I had a plan to George Strait is awesome.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_09: Well, I had a plan to come in and do a special um Climb the Wall of Tunes with George Strait.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_09: So I asked you.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_09: I said, uh, when's the last time we did George Strait?
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_09: And we did one a couple weeks ago, which is what I think she was talking about.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you'd play some songs I hadn't heard before.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_09: Because I think his last album was his best album.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_09: The one with Wade of the Badge on it.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_09: Anyway, I had re replied to her, I said, We did receive the text the first time.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_09: So glad we could help help you through the summer.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_09: We're terrible at planning, so we probably forgot to mention you on the show.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_09: Yes, King George rules.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_09: Second only to Vince, in my opinion.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_09: Um I said, We will feature some straight on the wall of tunes if Doug will let me.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_09: And then she had responded, she says, Uh, you don't need to mention it on the show.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_09: Just wanted you to know that you bring entertainment to many.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_09: Um so I I'm not gonna we're not gonna do George Straight because we did that just a couple weeks ago.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but since since uh he's second only to Vince Gill, in my opinion.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_09: Uh just to rub it in this listener's face, we're gonna we're gonna feature a Vince Gill album.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_09: Uh for the Wall of Tunes.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_09: So you're not you're not gonna I don't have to guess this week.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_09: You don't have to guess this week.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_09: Woo! That's loaded off my brain.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_09: But the the one we're gonna feature, I don't think I've done this before.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_09: Actually, we didn't have we've never done Vince Gill before.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_09: We've never done Vince Gill before.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_09: I can't believe that.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_11: I know, I was kind of surprised myself.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_09: We're gonna I'm gonna do it.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_11: Matter of fact, you know, I knew this writing skill would come in handy someday.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna do a four-album box set of Vince Gill.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_09: Uh we're gonna be here all night.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_09: Which is probably my favorite thing that he's done.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_09: So we'll do that in in just a second.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_09: Also, Doug's gonna read for you.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, forgot about that.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_09: We'll try and we'll try and get this done and uh read stuff as quick as possible.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_11: So we'll be right back.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_13: Reading and writing, who knew it'd pay off?
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_09: Yay, education! Remind me to tell I gotta tell you a story once we get off.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_09: Go to commercial break because it's pretty fight.

- 1:15:34SPEAKER_11: I bet when they wrote that song for the prices, right, they didn't know it was gonna be a medical miracle.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_11: Just read the story, right?
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_11: I want to tell you about this Beatles song called I Want to Tell You.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_11: Can you hold it over there a second?
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_11: I Want to Tell You was a song written by George about the frustrations of having things to say but being unable to articulate them.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_11: I feel that.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_11: I really, really do.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_11: Quote, it's about the avalanche of thoughts that are so hard to write down or say or transmit.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_11: He later I said, adding that if he were to write the song again, he would amend the bridge section, which says, But if I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_11: That's confusing things, so that it was it was clear that his mind was responsible for the confusion.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_11: Quote, the mind is the thing that hops about telling us to do this and do that.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_11: What we need is to lose the mind, explained George.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_11: Appropriately for a song which was about not knowing what to say, I want to tell you was recorded under the nonsensical title Laxton's Superb, a name of an English apple.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_11: First suggested by engineer Jeff Emmerich.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_11: It later became known as I don't know, after George Martin had asked George what he wanted to title it, and he'd been given this negative answer.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_16: That is confusing.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_11: What was Ringo doing?
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_09: You know, I always thought that uh George sounded like John to a certain degree.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_11: A little bit, yeah.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_09: A little bit.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_11: Um I think he's more nasally than John, though.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_09: You think so?
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_11: I think so.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_11: Um, alright.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_09: So I want to talk about this uh album from Vinskill.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_09: It's actually four albums in one.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah, this is where you got your country songs.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_09: It is, it is.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_09: Um, so the first album is the uh Rockin' Side.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_09: Rockin'.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_09: Which isn't really rockin'.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_09: Um some great songs on it, but it's not when it when when I say rocking, it's just rocking as Vince Gelder gets.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_09: Um I'm just gonna play you a couple of the tunes.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_09: Uh one has Michael McDonald on it, actually.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_11: We're gonna play that one, aren't we?
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_09: Uh yes, we are.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_09: Um and then the second album is I guess you could say soulful.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_09: Like uh hip hop soul.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_09: Holland dozerdolland.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_09: No, more like uh uh I don't know.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_09: We'll we'll get to it.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_09: And then the third album is Country, like classic country.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_09: Um and then the fourth album is acoustic, which includes some bluegrass, and that song that I chose last week.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_09: So let's just play a couple of these.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_09: Uh this is the first cut off the rockin' album.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_09: This is working on a big chill.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_02: It goes, don't cut a youth.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_09: Like a lot of blues guitar.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_09: Um these are the kinds of Vince Gill songs I like.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_09: This one's called Love Standin'.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_09: I'll just play you a sample of like three songs from Mary Album.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_02: Just to take my breath away.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_02: How you make me.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_09: So I'm gonna do the one with uh Michael McDonald.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_11: Doesn't seem like one that Michael McDonald will be on.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_11: That's what he's a personal guy.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_11: He didn't do anything.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_09: Oh, maybe it doesn't.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_09: I thought he I thought he sang a verse.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_11: Maybe not.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_09: Um, all right, now we're gonna go on.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_11: The ultimate.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_11: We're gonna see this.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_11: I this is my prediction.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_11: That there's gonna be an opera.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_11: And there's gonna be Pavarotti or whoever is gonna be right there.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_11: And then just for no reason.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_11: Michael McDonald's.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_11: Michael McDonald's gonna show up and just do something.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_11: And then just walk off, and that's it.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_11: You know what?
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna put this out into the ether right now, into the atmosphere.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_09: There needs to be a Broadway musical about Michael McDonald.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_09: I agree.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_09: The life of Michael McDonald.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_09: That'll be the best.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_09: And all the all the music that he has touched.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_09: You know, uh like his his his journey or something.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_09: There has to be a musical to put that out there.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_09: Put that out there into the ether.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_09: Um, all right, so the next album, like I said, was very uh is a very soulful type album.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_09: Um there's so many good ones.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna play this one.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_09: This is How Lonely Looks.
- 1:23:46SPEAKER_02: I love this song.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_02: So alone with a thousand songs.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_02: Talk about goodbye, letting go what you love so trying to sleep at night.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_02: I'd cry when you decide.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_11: This is the one Mike should have been on, right?
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_09: And there's I mean, there's some amazing guitar work on this as well.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:25:08SPEAKER_09: Alright, so I'm gonna go to this one.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_09: This one.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_09: This one has Cheryl Crow.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_09: This is called What You Give Away.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_11: It's already got that Cheryl Crow vibe to it.
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_02: You need the business pay.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_02: See how you did today.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_02: Last past.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_02: You live upon the kill.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_02: You've got a view that you never want to walk.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_21: You got me to play.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_21: You got to take all the to contain.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_21: What you give for me.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_09: It's a great message and a great just a great song.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_09: Uh, one more on this album.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_09: This one's called No Easy Way.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_02: You spend all your time with my best friend.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, I wish you knew a better ballin' for you.
- 1:27:18SPEAKER_21: Big button.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_21: Big no please win to the home.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_09: I just I just love the guy's voice.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_09: He's awesome.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_09: His songwriting is is great.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_09: Lyrics, you know, I mean his lyrics are kind of not all of them, but they're not.
- 1:27:41SPEAKER_09: I mean they're pretty simple, which is okay.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_11: Nothing wrong with that.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_09: I'm only gonna play two more because we're running low on time.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_09: So I'm gonna do one from the country album, which is disc three, and then one from the acoustic album.
- 1:27:52SPEAKER_09: So let's just go with this one.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_09: This one's called Some Things Never Get Old.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_02: Have you ever what stunts it?
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_02: Disappearing the water than Mexico Sky Melted into the ocean and that's a bad Have you ever seen the baby?
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_02: One for the first time spirals went up and baby and that's the back to the gamma.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_02: First taste the bird wine.
- 1:29:11SPEAKER_02: In the old song by the jump prime.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_09: So that's from the uh country album.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_11: I don't know why, but that may be my favorite of all the ones we've listened to.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I don't know why.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_11: Just something about it speaks to me.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, no, I get it.
- 1:29:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I get it.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_09: Um and then the fourth album is an acoustic album, and it has some bluegrass on it.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_09: And it has that song that I chose last week, which is my favorite on the whole collection called A River Like You.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_09: But I'll play a different one.
- 1:29:41SPEAKER_09: This one's called Girl.
- 1:30:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, you can't trust me with a window turn away.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_09: So this this box set, if you will, is basically just show all the sides of its gill.
- 1:30:43SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 1:30:43SPEAKER_11: I mean he's a multifaceted guy.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_11: Oh man.
- 1:30:46SPEAKER_11: Easily my favorite artist of all time.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_11: Um and he knows exactly where the bathroom is.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_14: So it's a long story.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_09: I've told that story before.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 1:31:09SPEAKER_09: So the the package is called Vince Gill These Days.
- 1:31:13SPEAKER_09: In case you're looking for it.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_11: Now this is are these all new songs?
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_11: Like, or are these are just ones he's done over the years and he has put together?
- 1:31:20SPEAKER_09: Well, this is this came out, they were all new.
- 1:31:24SPEAKER_09: He wrote he wrote them.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_09: Uh this came out uh 2006.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_11: Oh, so this is all pretty old.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's almost 20 years old.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:31:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_09: But but at the time, I mean he was he I don't think he had a song on the radio for a long time.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_09: You know, before this.
- 1:31:41SPEAKER_09: And he was he made he did the whole package in his home studio.
- 1:31:46SPEAKER_09: Uh just had his friends over and they and he had written all these songs and he said, I'm not gonna make an album, I'm gonna make four albums.
- 1:31:52SPEAKER_09: And so he so he did, put it out.
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_09: Um I think he won a Grammy for it.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_11: I bet.
- 1:31:57SPEAKER_09: But it never got played on the radio.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I thought I'd know.
- 1:32:01SPEAKER_09: Um but it's my favorite thing.
- 1:32:03SPEAKER_11: It wouldn't have been something to be a fly on the wall that Right.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_11: Oh my word.
- 1:32:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:32:08SPEAKER_11: I mean that must have taken a long time to do.
- 1:32:10SPEAKER_09: I would think.
- 1:32:10SPEAKER_11: I would think.
- 1:32:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:32:11SPEAKER_09: And he and he said something about he'd plug away at it, you know, in between concerts and things like that.
- 1:32:17SPEAKER_11: I bet there was two or three years in the making.
- 1:32:19SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm sure.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_09: I'm sure.
- 1:32:21SPEAKER_09: Um and he's since he's since put on a couple albums, you know, uh since then, but this is uh easily my favorite project that he's done.
- 1:32:29SPEAKER_09: Because it does it really does cover all the the facets of skill.
- 1:32:32SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 1:32:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:32:34SPEAKER_09: So these days is the name of it, in case you're looking to go buy it, you should.
- 1:32:38SPEAKER_09: Uh and buy a physical copy too.
- 1:32:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, because you know that's gotta have physical copies.
- 1:32:47SPEAKER_09: Those are my sticky notes.
- 1:32:49SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 1:32:50SPEAKER_11: Is that a program?
- 1:32:51unknown: Yeah.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_09: Sticky notes it's a it's a it's a thing on Mac.
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_09: Is it?
- 1:32:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:32:55SPEAKER_09: I've never seen it online.
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_09: Uh you have a computer?
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_11: I have a I have a I have a MacBook Pro.
- 1:33:01SPEAKER_09: Maybe I don't know.
- 1:33:02SPEAKER_09: Maybe my Maybe I've never seen it.
- 1:33:03SPEAKER_09: Maybe my wife downloaded it.
- 1:33:04SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:33:05SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:33:06SPEAKER_09: But this has I probably shouldn't tell you this.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_09: But this has all my usernames and passwords for everything.
- 1:33:12SPEAKER_09: Because it doesn't it doesn't delete.
- 1:33:14SPEAKER_11: Oh, I get that, yeah.
- 1:33:16SPEAKER_11: I have mine in a notebook and I hid somewhere.
- 1:33:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:33:18SPEAKER_11: That's smart.
- 1:33:19SPEAKER_11: Well, the the problem is uh you don't know where the Well I know where it is, but if I ever forget, I am so screwed.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_11: Yes, I do.
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_11: Because every time I get, you know, I every time I have a new password for something, yeah, I put it in this notebook and I put it in its hiding place.
- 1:33:35SPEAKER_11: Well, what if I don't get a new password for anything for a long time and I'm like, where the frick did I put that notebook?
- 1:33:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:33:43SPEAKER_09: Well, what if this computer crashes?
- 1:33:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, you know, we're all we're all screwed.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_11: I mean, it's just like I just I just can't wait to be old and be put in a home.
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_09: I know, right?
- 1:33:52SPEAKER_09: You know, technology is a double-edged sword.
- 1:33:54SPEAKER_09: It really is.
- 1:33:55SPEAKER_09: It is really, which is why I ordered that tape recorder.
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be awesome, yeah.
- 1:33:59SPEAKER_11: I think so.
- 1:33:59SPEAKER_09: It's gonna be fun.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_09: We can do the podcast on that.
- 1:34:02SPEAKER_09: We can take driving the car and recording the podcast.
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_13: Hello everybody! Hello everybody! So we sound like we're far away.
- 1:34:09SPEAKER_13: That's because we're on airline!
- 1:34:11SPEAKER_09: Well, that's what my dad my my dad used to do uh with us kids when we were really young.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_09: He had one of those old tape recorders.
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_09: And we just he'd just hit record and we'd be you hear us as kids.
- 1:34:21SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:34:21SPEAKER_09: You know, and and that's something I still have to do.
- 1:34:24SPEAKER_11: Well that's how we recorded songs off the radio.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_11: Oh, and remember also uh World's War 30s?
- 1:34:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:34:29SPEAKER_09: Those were all cassette.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_09: You know, I mean, man.
- 1:34:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:34:33SPEAKER_11: So you know, did you do World War 30s once?
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_11: You and Bob?
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_11: I don't remember.
- 1:34:38SPEAKER_11: We might have.
- 1:34:40SPEAKER_11: We always did our Bob and Doug thing.
- 1:34:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:34:42SPEAKER_11: You know, or just whatever whatever we were doing.
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:34:46SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:34:47SPEAKER_09: That's it.
- 1:34:47SPEAKER_09: That's episode 253 in the books.
- 1:34:51SPEAKER_09: Um we'll be back at you next week.
- 1:34:53SPEAKER_13: Yay, next week! Yay! We'll do stuff.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we'll talk about things.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_13: Actually, will we?
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_09: Yes, we will.
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_09: Yes we will.
- 1:34:59SPEAKER_09: I guess my first day of in-service is Wednesday, but we'll record on Tuesday.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_09: So yeah.
- 1:35:04SPEAKER_09: Alright, we should be good.
- 1:35:05SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 1:35:05SPEAKER_09: Oh, and we have rehearsal tomorrow night.
- 1:35:07SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, for the country band.
- 1:35:09SPEAKER_09: Which means I need to sit down and learn those songs.
- 1:35:11SPEAKER_11: Now we gotta figure out more songs.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_11: There's a lot of pressure here.
- 1:35:14SPEAKER_09: It's a way to keep your brain sharp.
- 1:35:16SPEAKER_11: Really is.
- 1:35:20SPEAKER_13: Oh, okay, Jordan's here, so it must be doing red hot chili peppers.
- 1:35:23SPEAKER_13: Okay, let's go.
- 1:35:24SPEAKER_09: That is a real thing.
- 1:35:26SPEAKER_09: Uh, because I'll have the guitar on, I'll be like, wait, what band is this?
- 1:35:31SPEAKER_11: I I I I I I I I know the difference because if I'm playing guitar, that means it's the country band.
- 1:35:38SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:35:39SPEAKER_11: If I'm singing, that means it's Skinny Elvis.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_11: And if I have a tambourine, that means it's the syndicate.
- 1:35:46SPEAKER_11: It's the syndicate.
- 1:35:46SPEAKER_11: And if I'm sitting on a cajon, it's just the two of us.
- 1:35:49SPEAKER_11: So I got I got my things.
- 1:35:52SPEAKER_11: So but if I ever mix them up, I'm screwed.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_11: Here's the thing.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_11: If I'm playing guitar, yeah, I mean you're like, I'm it could be anything.
- 1:36:00SPEAKER_11: It could be anything.
- 1:36:01SPEAKER_11: I don't know where I am.
- 1:36:03SPEAKER_11: Where am I?
- 1:36:04SPEAKER_11: What song are we doing?
- 1:36:05SPEAKER_11: I know one day we're gonna be like, oh, we should do this song.
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_09: We we don't do that song.
- 1:36:09SPEAKER_11: All the other band does that song.
- 1:36:10SPEAKER_07: Crap.
- 1:36:11SPEAKER_11: You should you should write on the back of the guitar what band you're in.
- 1:36:14SPEAKER_07: You should be like, oh, this is haystack car.
