- 3:46We do want you to enjoy the podcast tonight. I think it's worth mentioning
- 3:53that people judge others for various reasons. They goss up and sometimes spread rumors.
- 3:59Judging the person does not define who they are, and the difference between
- 4:01gossip and rumors is gossip is essentially talking about others and their personal affairs,
- 4:09which is sometimes true, and a rumor is information that is unverified, which
- 4:14means we don't know if it's true or not. Our perceptions and assumptions can
- 4:19be misleading, often obscuring the true essence of an individual. It is essential
- 4:25to approach others with empathy, understanding that each person carries a unique story,
- 4:31experiences, and struggles. Tonight, my guest is joining us in a three
- 4:36part mini series, the Miseducation of an educator, author, and self proclaimed
- 4:44ex mistress. Please welcome to Basic Black After Dark. Nicole S. Brown.
- 4:55Hello, Hey, Nicole, Hey, how are you? I'm doing
- 4:59fine and how are you. I'm good. I'm so happy and so grateful
- 5:03that you can join me tonight. The pleasure is mine and I'm very excited
- 5:10about this opportunity. Okay, Now, so we're gonna get this started tonight
- 5:15because you and I had spoken previously, and we've spoken to you know,
- 5:17a couple of times, you know, through LinkedIn, Facebook, even on
- 5:23the phone just the other day, and it was a pleasure to speak with
- 5:26you, and I'm just really excited to have you on the show. Now.
- 5:30Don't usually ask my guests their personal questions or you know, to get
- 5:33that personal, but I really want to know how you're doing well. I'm
- 5:43hanging in there. It gets tough sometimes, but you know, life is
- 5:49tough for we have to roll with the punches because you know, too much,
- 5:53who has given much is requard and some people, you know, may
- 5:57not have as many all to face that I did, but they may not
- 6:01have the reward that I'm gonna get. You know, everybody has their own
- 6:10walk. Well tonight, I want you to be able to give people a
- 6:15little bit of insight of who Nicold is because you've been through from what you're
- 6:19telling me, an awful lot, and it is the missage education of Nicole
- 6:25as Brown. You know, some people may not know who you really are,
- 6:29and I've gotten to know you, and I like what I've gotten to
- 6:31know, and I want people to see that as well. And this is
- 6:34why we're doing it in three parts, because I want them to get to
- 6:39know you the way I have gotten to know you. Now, you may
- 6:41have grown up with other people and been around other people, and they may
- 6:44know you differently. That's not here on there and it's not for me to
- 6:47judge. But I want people to get to know you, So give me
- 6:51a little bit of your backstory, you know, because I understand you have
- 6:56quite a story. The first time we spoke, you mentioned that you were
- 7:00in a good place and that things were spiraling out of control a little bit,
- 7:03that there were people in and out of your life, some good and
- 7:06some bad, and that you were the subject of someone else's gossip, and
- 7:12that some of these people you mentioned provided a false understanding or idea about you
- 7:17which changed the course of your life. So you want to give me a
- 7:20little bit of your backstory. Yeah, well, I guess I can say
- 7:30this misinformation started when I was in college, and it trickled down into my
- 7:40career and even you know, my personal life with family and church and just
- 7:46everywhere I went. And although they saw a nice, loving lady, they
- 7:55wanted to judge, you know, in what others said based on some things
- 8:00that they saw that they shouldn't have solved. Wow. So let me ask
- 8:05you what would make this interview a home run if you look back in three
- 8:09months, because we're gonna get deep into a lot of things between this show
- 8:15tonight, this podcast, and the next two podcasts. So we're gonna take
- 8:18it step by stard because I don't want anyone to miss a beat as far
- 8:20as who you are, and if they want to, you know, put
- 8:24something on the screen and ask questions, and we're here to ask it for
- 8:28you to be able to clear up things, because I think it's I think
- 8:31it's fair to allow you to just have your say and to be able to
- 8:35express what you want to express and to clear up any misconceptions about you.
- 8:41Hate Hay Shinnett. Thank you so much for joining us tonight. So yeah,
- 8:43if you can look back in three months, what would make this interview
- 8:50a home run for you? Oh? Wow? A home run for me
- 8:54would be more book sales, lots of views and more donations for the calls,
- 9:03the housing calls that I have and just more exposure as as an educator,
- 9:11author and Jill of all trades. So that would be a home run
- 9:18for me. Hey, Patrice, thank you for joining us tonight. So
- 9:22let's get right down to it. Why do you want people to know who
- 9:24is Nicole Esprow? Well, like I said, like you said earlier,
- 9:31there are misconceptions of who I am based on things that people should have should
- 9:37solved that they shouldn't have seen. And even though the true person or the
- 9:43true loving person was right in front of them. People chose to see whatever
- 9:48they wanted to sing. Native of Monroe, Louisiana. Uh, I have
- 9:56two kids. I'm a poly object certified teacher, certified in more than five
- 10:05subjects and have fifteen books out. So you were on a path to greatness.
- 10:11You're an author and as you mentioned, a subject certified teacher. Tell
- 10:16us about that. You know, as far as being poly subject certified,
- 10:20what is that now? I call it poly subject certified because I have more
- 10:24than three So I'm certified in chemistry, physics, general science, vocal music,
- 10:33reading, free K through third early childhood. And also I'm also a
- 10:41certified principal in four different states in Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Missouri.
- 10:50Wow. Wow, but your home is there in Louisiana. Yes,
- 10:56I've been doing a lot of traveling. So have these rumors? So how
- 11:00have these rumors changed you? When did this start to change? Because I
- 11:03know you said that you had graduated and things started to happen. You mentioned
- 11:11that you were part of the church. Was these things happening in the church
- 11:13or was they happening, you know, just outside of the church. Well,
- 11:20things didn't really start happening. The attacks that church really didn't start happening
- 11:24until I became an author because a situation that I was in, I kept
- 11:30it secret and sat grade and the attacks. I didn't even know that I
- 11:35really was having direct attacks from somebody an individual until twenty fourteen. But it
- 11:46started in two thousand and four when I was student teaching. Because I've always
- 11:52been the type of person that was stayed on the grind and I always wanted
- 11:58to do what was best for me to make my life better. So I
- 12:03really didn't focus on you know who didn't really like me. I was nice
- 12:07for him anyway, and I kept doing what I needed to do to be
- 12:11able to succeed in life. So what do you Why do you feel that
- 12:15people were compelled to start rumors about you? You mentioned that you were author
- 12:18early on. Do you think that that was something that made people feel as
- 12:24though she's an author, I'm going to talk about him? Or was your
- 12:28book? Was your book about them? Or did they feel as though your
- 12:31book was about them? It wasn't the first book that I ever wrote.
- 12:37It was about education, but due to the fact that my career as an
- 12:46educator was attacked at at you know, at the beginning of my career.
- 12:50Really as an intern, I really didn't get a fair chance, even though
- 12:58it was evident that I was a good teacher and had potential to be one.
- 13:03So basically, I don't know if I could say this due to the
- 13:09nature of the show, I was attacked by somebody who really didn't like me
- 13:13or like people where I from, where I grew up. So we,
- 13:18like I had mentioned for those who are just joining us this, Nicole has
- 13:22agreed to do a mini series with me, and tonight we're doing The Miseducation
- 13:28of Nicole S. Brown and we're gonna be doing two more segments and we're
- 13:33going to go in deeper. So some things may seem a little vague tonight,
- 13:37but we want to take it step by step because I definitely want people
- 13:39to hear her story and to get to know who she is, and I
- 13:43don't want her to leave anything out at all. You know, I understand
- 13:46some people may have some questions and I'm not gonna say save it until then.
- 13:50You can ask the question tonight and she'll do her best to answer the
- 13:54questions. You know, looking back on your life, who or what makes
- 13:58you instant later? Uh, my kids and well, looking back, really
- 14:09who inspired me a lot was my grandmother, my dad, and my brother.
- 14:18That's well, my dad and my brother, well all both all three
- 14:20of them are deceased, but they really taught me a lot about life and
- 14:26how to use encouraged me to use my talents. And my grandma, Uh,
- 14:33she's the one that taught me certain things like with cooking and cannon.
- 14:37And you're from Louisiana. Grandma was in the kitchen, uh huh, and
- 14:45she always taught she was not she she would every weekend, especially when the
- 14:54when our parents had to work, she would get in that car and she
- 14:58would drive. She would she would drive and get all of her grandchildren and
- 15:03she would take us downtown to get ice cream at this place. So family,
- 15:11and some of them are no longer around, do you still feel as
- 15:16though you have supports with family? No? Those were the really the three
- 15:24and maybe a few more people in the family that were really supportive. Everybody
- 15:28else I really don't want to even be around anymore because of me having to
- 15:37leave a volatile situation. But yeah, my grandmother was always the one that
- 15:43told me or made sure and everybody kind of stayed on one according, you
- 15:48know, fought for each other, You had each other's back, per se.
- 15:54Uh. And my dad he instilled into me a lot of uh to
- 16:00stay you know, to be educated, and to do my best and keep
- 16:04a positive attitude. He would always say, your attitude determines your altitude,
- 16:11because you know, if you have a negative attitude, you know people are
- 16:15not gonna work to work with you. And you mentioned that you know these
- 16:21rumors had started. You also mentioned that you know it was surrounding some parts
- 16:29of the church. Let me ask you this, were some of the people
- 16:33who started those rumors? Family members? You know, I can tell me
- 16:37the names or what their relationship is, just the yeah, yeah yea.
- 16:45Because again I was the quiet choir member. I was just like being the
- 16:52quiet family member as well. Yeah, family member. Okay, what made
- 16:57what made you want to tell you stories on basic Black? Oh that's a
- 17:03hard question. I well, I uh, well, she she well,
- 17:10what made me want to tell my story is that I wanted to be able
- 17:17to really reiterate you know that you know, it's not a crime to uh
- 17:23to love all mankind and to to kind of clear by name. Okay,
- 17:32all right, Well, I'm glad that you're here, and I I said,
- 17:33We're gonna take a step by step to try to support you. What
- 17:38motivates you to get up in the morning. Are you drinking by relationships?
- 17:42Money? Success? People? What? Success? And success? To me,
- 17:49true success comes from God and my kids. You know, they you
- 17:53know, because a lot of people think money is that's well, you know,
- 18:00you know, causes us to have success. But you know, we
- 18:03can't take money with us. You know, we can leave no right now,
- 18:11money. We can't take money with us. We can't even take our
- 18:15family members with us. But we can leave a legacy for our family and
- 18:21not only our family, but the global society. Okay, all right.
- 18:26We had Alma who says that grandmas are the key and that she miss our
- 18:30grandmother rest in peace, and Rainbow says that she hears that, and she
- 18:36did mention something a few minutes ago about Grandma's as well. So with everything
- 18:40that you've been through, how was it effected? You're every day living?
- 18:44Well? Right now, I'm in a situation where I don't have anywhere to
- 18:48live. I'm in a hotel and depending up on donations and such to be
- 18:55able to stay here because at first I had a job, and then the
- 19:00situation happened again, you know, with the rumors and you know, conspiracy
- 19:07that I didn't have it, even though I was preparing to be for with
- 19:12the class because I rolled several pools to put on the bullets board and I
- 19:17was gonna share one of those today that I was gonna put on the bullet
- 19:22Has this affected your self esteem or your confidence? No, because I know
- 19:29that I believe in God and I believe you know, I have to be
- 19:34scriptural with this. When the enemy comes in like a flood, God was
- 19:37set a standard against the enemy. It's just attacks that that that that that's
- 19:45proven that you know, I'm moving on to higher heights. Let me ask
- 19:52you, Nicole, are you depressed? Do you feel depressed? Sometimes I
- 19:57feel down, but everybody it does, you know, But I wouldn't consider
- 20:02myself depressed. You had mentioned you had written some poetry, and that's gonna
- 20:08be some part about next week as well. But we're gonna do We're gonna
- 20:12take a break, and in that break, you are going to recite one
- 20:17of your poems. Yeah, okay, And I've heard a couple of your
- 20:21poems and I saw are some titles of some of your books, and well,
- 20:23of course we're gonna be jumping into that as well. But we're gonna
- 20:26take a short break. But during that break, we're gonna hear a poem
- 20:30from the Colees Brown. And this is something that you've written in my correct
- 20:33Yes, it was supposed to be for my bulletin board. But the bulletin
- 20:40board you're talking about at school? Yes, quick question, what grade were
- 20:45you teaching? I was supposed to be teaching six, No. Seventh and
- 20:52the eighth grade science. Oh well, science one of my favorite subjects.
- 20:57But it was two of my favorite grades. So you're gonna go into this
- 21:03break, and we're gonna have you stay there so you can well, as
- 21:06a matter of fact, you can do your poem right now while we still
- 21:08like okay, So I'm gonna sit back and I'm gonna enjoy this poem.
- 21:14Ladies and gentlemen, this is put your mind in motion. Like the strong
- 21:21waves and seas and oceans. You need to put your mind then motion.
- 21:27Don't depend on others to blow your wind. True learning or earning of anything
- 21:33comes from within. You must be self driven and have your own unique discipline
- 21:38in order to pass all tests and win, put your mind in motion and
- 21:45every life's detail and notion. Nothing in this life really has a magic spell
- 21:49or potion. Remember to really excel at anything, especially learning, you must
- 21:57put your mind to sell into the sea of knowledge, whether or not you
- 22:03attend college. Put your mind in motion, rub knowledge in your cerebral cortex
- 22:11like low shit. That's that piece. Okay, So is there more to
- 22:17this piece? Thank you so much for that piece. Is there more to
- 22:18this piece? Uh? Uh? Because no, because I just wrote it
- 22:26maybe a couple of weeks ago to put on a bullets and board, so
- 22:30I didn't want it to be too long. Okay, So have you written
- 22:34other Well, you know what we're going to get into that, Yeah,
- 22:37the mini series two. But you see, I have a lot of questions
- 22:41for you before because I've seen some of the titles of your books, and
- 22:45I'm not gonna make that a smaller tonight. But you know, when this
- 22:49shows over, I hope everybody starts to go online and just start looking them
- 22:53up and grabbing some copies so they'll come back and they'll be able to ask
- 22:56you some questions. But you had mentioned that you're staying in the hotel right
- 23:00now, how were you coping with this on? And you're there not by
- 23:04yourself, you're with your children, yes, and how are they coping with
- 23:08this? And how are you coping with just just being it? Because I
- 23:11know it's a shift, it's a change. It's a better change because although
- 23:15we were in the house, we weren't you know, we weren't being treated
- 23:19right, So it was it's a better uh change. It's a bet.
- 23:26It's a peaceful we have you know, uh we're dealing with, you know,
- 23:33not having anywhere to cook or anything. But it's better than what it
- 23:37was because I was in a situation where I was with my family and we
- 23:42were being mistreated. And I'm just trying to say that in a kind way.
- 23:49When the Cold has a go fund me page, and if you would
- 23:52like to send some blessing the codes way you can do so at go fund
- 23:57dot me, bowt slash eight one E as an Eric, the number four,
- 24:04A isn't Apple, the number five, the number eight and E as
- 24:10an Eric. Again. She has a go fund me. It's at go
- 24:15fund dot me, bowt slash the number eight, the number one, he
- 24:21isn't Eric, the number four A isn't Apple, the number five, the
- 24:26number eight, and isn't Eric again, So the information will be floating throughout.
- 24:30So I'm hoping that you can help support Nicole so we can at least
- 24:36try to get her to a comfortable place for her and her children. What
- 24:41have you learned about yourself recently? Well, then I'm stronger than I thought
- 24:48I was because I've been through a lot, and you know, it was
- 24:51times that I did cry, and then sometimes I was I really wasn't able
- 24:56to, and uh, there was there was many opportunities to write about and
- 25:06reflect about some of the things that I was going through, and a lot
- 25:08of poems that I wrote over the over the past five months that I was
- 25:15going through all the things that I was going through, and I had gone
- 25:17through more than that, But it's it was really trying then that I was
- 25:22writing about God. And you know, I even wrote a poem about how
- 25:26I wrote sung my first solo and then my grandmother gave me a Jesus pen
- 25:30and said that I represent represented Jesus, and I can only I can always
- 25:37remember that my my Grandmoa and my dad didn't really get along, but they
- 25:41did get they they didn't agree on much, but they did agree on me
- 25:47singing the song at church when I was fourteen. Well, Alma says that
- 25:52this is only a test about God, about Jesus, about wherever, and
- 26:00whatever your heart contents, let no man put you under at all. Alma
- 26:06is also saying that it will be your testimony. And I agree with you,
- 26:10Alma, I honestly do. It will be your testimony. What's one
- 26:14of the things that you think most people get wrong about you? A lot
- 26:18of people think that I'm an invalid and belligerent, and I'm not. And
- 26:26it's evident that I'm not belligerent. And it's really evident that I'm not an
- 26:30invalid either, because I've written four books about education. And you hold several
- 26:37degrees. Yes, you gotta be very smart to be having one in chemistry,
- 26:42because I look, I couldn't. I could barely scramble eggs. Yeah,
- 26:48and talk about having a degree. Yeah, I have a BS in
- 26:51chemistry, a Master of Education and reading education, and I have an EDS
- 26:59and education leadership and I was recently I had to take off and I probably
- 27:07have to reapply, but I did get accepted once to a doctoral program in
- 27:12educational leadership. So what seems to be the hold up with you being able
- 27:19to get a job in the educational feel is it? Are the rumors what's
- 27:29actually causing Yeah, it's the rumors and you know, stuff that they saw
- 27:33that they shouldn't have seen, so instead right in your area. Then have
- 27:38you ever thought about bringing these individuals that start in these rumors which could be
- 27:48considered slander if you have that type of proof. Now, I'm not a
- 27:52lawyer. I'm not trying to tell you which direction to go, but I
- 27:56know that that's just a question on my mind. Have you ever thought about
- 28:00going in that direction? I did, but it kind of goes deeper than
- 28:06then, you know, it kind of goes deeper. Yeah, to the
- 28:10point, well, to the core of all of that. We're gonna definitely
- 28:12get to the core of all of that, because I definitely want you know,
- 28:18I know the story of of what you're telling me and what i've I've
- 28:22I've read from what you sent me and and me doing my own little research,
- 28:26you know, and it just blows me away. You know, everything
- 28:32that that you're you had told me that I've read that I again research and
- 28:40I just shake my head. You know, often when you see yourself in
- 28:44five years. I really see myself as a best selling author, a stay
- 28:52at home mom, and working on a lot of crafts that I had played
- 29:00to work on, like dealing with creativity, like taking more classes for cooking,
- 29:07and working on the doctoral programs and stuff like that. And just wanted
- 29:14to travel the world where my books have gone so far, because I really
- 29:18haven't gone too many places beyond you know, beyond the South region a little
- 29:26bit, maybe into the Midwest a little bit. But I really want to
- 29:30be able to travel to where my books have gone, because they're all over
- 29:33the world. Wow, fleeting. Again, We're gonna talk more about and
- 29:38being an author, But there's a question that you want to ask you.
- 29:41You talk heavy on education. I hear him cracking up in the back.
- 29:48You talk heavy on education, but you also talk about being an author.
- 29:52If you had to give one of those two up, which one would it
- 29:55be? Well, I don't think I would want to give up being an
- 30:02author. Okay, Okay, So we're gonna talk more about that in a
- 30:07few weeks. If you have the attention of the whole world for five minutes,
- 30:11what would you say to them, Oh, spread love, I'm hoping
- 30:15that the whole world is tonight. I'm hoping the whole world and sitting here
- 30:18listening to your story tonight. But what would you say to them? Well,
- 30:21what would you say to the listeners? Now? What I would say?
- 30:26What I would always tell my kids, don't be a magnet or negativity,
- 30:30spread love and reach out to somebody who needs help. Okay, all
- 30:40right, Now, if you couldn't leave a mark on the world that preceded
- 30:42you, what would it be. I would want people to know that I'm
- 30:48a lover of all mankind, that I love everybody. You know, whether
- 30:52they love me back or did or give me respect or that that's just how
- 30:56ward up. I would want people to know that I love everybody. Okay,
- 31:03okay, So is there anything else that we should know about them?
- 31:14Well, I kind of told you a little bit, a little bit about
- 31:18the educator. Oh yeah. I like the right learning songs. I like
- 31:22to write learning songs like the performing in the classroom, and like to teach
- 31:30not rigid. I like to use different methods and try to pull creativity out
- 31:36about the kids in the class. And I try not to just teach the
- 31:41subject, but I try to teach life as well. When we talk about
- 31:45the mis education of Nicole S. Brown, what part is the miss Like
- 31:55I said, well, they're missing that capable of doing what others say that
- 32:04I'm not capable of and that I don't have that I do have a loving
- 32:08heart toward all people, and that I'm willing. I'm really uh, like
- 32:16I said, qualified to do things in a classroom and some people don't feel
- 32:22that way. Also, I'm kind of trying to not tell it all,
- 32:30but okay, that's okay, you can hold that back because I'm hoping that
- 32:35they want to come in and listen to the rest of the story. You
- 32:37know, there's many different ways for an individual such as yourself to educate people.
- 32:44You don't always have to be in the school system. You can do
- 32:47tuning, you know. You know, many people want tutoring for their children,
- 32:52you know, and you can set your prices, you know, to
- 32:55do tutoring. And because you're an author and you have this educational background,
- 33:01you may want to decide to put something into those books and start telling those
- 33:05books on the educational side, so that may be able to generate, you
- 33:08know, something for you as well. You know, I'm so sorry that
- 33:14you're going through what you're going through. Really, what I want to do
- 33:19after I kind of raise my kids and travel the world and do things with
- 33:24my books, is that I want to get some kids that people don't people
- 33:30kind of push up by on the wayside, because I was kind of pushed
- 33:36by the wayside too as an adult that have gone through rough times, gone
- 33:45through situations with abuse or whatever, and have learned to challenge channel their talents
- 33:52in the wrong way to be able to teach them how to channel their talents
- 34:00in a positive way. So everybody, do you see what I say when
- 34:06I say the miseducation of Nicoles Brown is just a lot more to it than
- 34:10what meets the eye. But sadly we run out of time for tonight.
