- 0:00Grand Touring Motorsport started as a social group of car enthusiasts,

- 0:08want to share our stories with you.

- 0:14a topnotch collection of knowledge and information through our podcast.
- 0:18Break Fix
- 0:22dearly beloved, we gather here tonight, not in sorrow, but in awe.
- 0:28While the world will remember Robert Duval.
- 0:31For movies like The Godfather Apocalypse Now, tender Mercies, and a resume that
- 0:38reads like the Library of Congress had a baby with the Oscars, we know the truth.
- 0:43His real masterpiece, his sine chapel, his Hamlet, his Mount Rushmore, his
- 0:48car from Pure American Horsepower.
- 0:50Yes.
- 0:51I am referring to Days of Thunder, a film where Duvall didn't just act.
- 0:56He laid hands on broken race cars like a southern fried automotive shaman, where
- 1:00he delivered lines with the gravitas of a man who had seen the face of God.
- 1:04And God was drafting at 200 miles per hour where he taught a young Tom Cruise
- 1:09the sacred art of rubbing his racing and somehow made it sound like scripture.
- 1:15So tonight, as we celebrate the life of Robert Duval, we honor the role
- 1:19that defined a generation of Gearheads romantics and people who think NASCAR
- 1:23pit strategy is a spiritual practice.
- 1:26We salute the man who could whisper to an engine like it was a wounded soldier
- 1:30who could diagnose a blown piston ring with the same emotional weight.
- 1:33Most actors reserved for death scenes and who proved once and for all that.
- 1:38The greatest special effect in cinema is saying, let's build a race car.
- 1:42This is not a goodbye.
- 1:43This is a victory lap.
- 1:45A checkered flagged wave.
- 1:46The man who gave us the greatest racing mentored movie history.
- 1:49Ladies and gentlemen, start your emotions because tonight we remember Robert Duval.
- 1:54The only way that makes sense through the roar of engines, the
- 1:56smell of burning rubber and the eternal glory of days of thunder.
- 2:01Yeah,
- 2:04I gotta say, you need the music from the old Budweisers, like real American heroes.
- 2:10Real American heroes.
- 2:11Here's to you, Mr. Days of Thunder Pit Crew manager, real man of genius.
- 2:20He obviously stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
- 2:25What an intro.
- 2:25We've never had an intro like this.
- 2:27Very nice.
- 2:28Well, yeah.
- 2:29Gosh, how do I top that?
- 2:30Uh, good night.
- 2:31Goodnight everybody.
- 2:32We're done.
- 2:33That was, that was great review.
- 2:34Excellent job.
- 2:35Tony.
- 2:35You just fun.

- 2:48everything I learned from movies, whatcha are talking about Steve.
- 2:51Oh, can you hear the voices too?
- 2:55Spreading.
- 2:56We have with us damn near the whole crew here of, uh, the
- 2:59Grand Tour Motor Sports Podcast.
- 3:00We have Eric, Brad, mountain man, Mike, no Mountain man, Dan, and of course Tanya.
- 3:07Hi everyone.
- 3:08Hello.
- 3:09Hello.
- 3:10This is another one we've been putting off for quite a long time.
- 3:13I'm looking forward to this.
- 3:15I'm assuming this is everybody's first time watching this movie.
- 3:16Oh, yeah.
- 3:17Oh, you never watched it in back in the early nineties, or this wasn't on a date,
- 3:21the Sun Sunday afternoon like TV movie.
- 3:24I still haven't seen it.
- 3:30I've, I've watched Driven though.
- 3:32Is that close enough?
- 3:33I, I, I watched, uh, biker Boys Instead, so I'm prepared
- 3:37to discuss Biker Boys only.
- 3:40Was this your guys' first time seeing it?
- 3:42No, no, no.
- 3:44First time in 35 years.
- 3:45But no, I had seen it.
- 3:47Like, and, and the thing was I was watching it, I'm like, oh my God, I know
- 3:50every single scene of this movie and I haven't seen it since 1992 or something.
- 3:54Yeah.
- 3:55But you have like a photographic memory.
- 3:56I, I did.
- 3:57At least it sticks with you.
- 3:58You did Until you got hit in the face with a, uh, was it a
- 4:01Suburban, uh, the Ford Bronco two?
- 4:04Yes.
- 4:04The Bronco two.
- 4:05The Bronco two.
- 4:05That's right.
- 4:06Because the Bronco two joke will never get old.
- 4:08But you know what, uh, what helps with my memory?
- 4:11What's that, Steve?
- 4:12Ah, my top, it's tall.
- 4:15We have from Wasatch Brewing, the Devastator Doppelbock Lager.
- 4:19Uh, 8% alcohol by volume.
- 4:21One of my favorite beers had to do it for this movie 'cause it's intense.
- 4:25Oh babe, you don't even need a cup.
- 4:26You got, you got your own Gone.
- 4:29Hey guys, guys.
- 4:31The dogs at daycare.
- 4:32Yeah.
- 4:34I'm gonna be able to sit for the whole movie until I have to pee.
- 4:37That's right.
- 4:38Only, only I will be making whiny noises to go outside and pee.
- 4:42Steve, stop ringing the potty bell.
- 4:44You guys, uh, drinking anything on your end in, in honor of Robert Duvall.
- 4:47Meow Yellow.
- 4:48I had meow yellow yesterday.
- 4:50Actually.
- 4:50I forgot to save it for tonight.
- 4:52Dang it.
- 4:53But I lost my cup too.
- 4:54You, you still got my rich energy.
- 4:56The good news is you can just recycle it.
- 5:00I don't have anything to drink, but I'm celebrating with some Girl Scout cookies.
- 5:03Yeah.
- 5:03I'm glad you finished that with cookies.
- 5:06No, I could run and run and get some oz cream real quick.
- 5:09I had chocolate ice cream while watching.
- 5:12Oh, look at that.
- 5:13Well, we'll get to that.
- 5:14Look, we all know that Mount Mandan is not rich enough to have real Girl Scouts.
- 5:18That's only reserved for the billionaires and only on the islands.
- 5:21Oh, topical.
- 5:25I'm drinking.
- 5:25I'm drinking a Riesling out of a pint glass.
- 5:28Oh, classy.
- 5:30We fancy over here.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:31See?
- 5:32So do you guys remember your first time watching this movie or was it
- 5:34just one of those that was on tv?
- 5:36Like I, I don't know if any of us saw in theaters or, I
- 5:39was, I was in a parking lot.
- 5:41It was midnight.
- 5:43You and me and the girl.
- 5:44Oh yeah, you your first time watching the movie.
- 5:46Sorry, I thought you Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:48No, just your first time.
- 5:49Let's go, let's go around the room.
- 5:50Starting with the, starting with Brad and then my mom walked in.
- 5:53No,
- 5:571990s Days of Thunder.
- 5:59You guys might have heard of it from director Tony Scott.
- 6:03Who's he?
- 6:03Steve.
- 6:04Yeah.
- 6:05Who's he?
- 6:06Yeah.
- 6:06Uh, guys, you know him.
- 6:08The Hunger Top Gun.
- 6:09What You don't say, uh, Beverly Hills Cop two.
- 6:12This last Boy Scout, true Romance Crimson Tie the fan enemy of the state.
- 6:17Spy Game.
- 6:18Man of Fire.
- 6:19Domino.
- 6:19Ugh.
- 6:20Deja vu, taking of Pel.
- 6:211, 2, 3. Unstoppable.
- 6:23Oops.
- 6:23Almost all bangers.
- 6:25Wait, I, I thought this was a Bruckheimer film.
- 6:27Well, he didn't direct it.
- 6:29That doesn't, nobody else Matters.
- 6:30It's a Bruckheimer film.
- 6:31Oh, oh, oh.
- 6:33Don Simpson would like to talk to you, sir. I wrote down Jerry Bruckheimer Boom.
- 6:38The only name that matters.
- 6:39Yep.
- 6:40Simpson and Bruckheimer.
- 6:41So, you know, there's transforming robots all throughout this movie,
- 6:45but guys, the writers of this movie, pure Hollywood Legends.
- 6:50Like Robert Town.
- 6:52Who's he?
- 6:52Steve.
- 6:53Well, babe, we talked about him recently because, uh, you might remember
- 6:56him from the last Woman on Earth.
- 6:58Oh, he was the, uh, the third guy in that.
- 7:00Th he was the third guy.
- 7:02Yep.
- 7:03Oh, shit.
- 7:04And then he started writing, uh, you know, classics like Chinatown
- 7:08work, uh, Chinatown's movie I saw when I was way too young.
- 7:11Yes.
- 7:12This, I watched that when I was like six said, anyone who's ever seen
- 7:16Chinatown, I was way too young for this.
- 7:18I think I'm still too young to watch it.
- 7:20We also wrote Orca Grey Stove.
- 7:23Lord of the eight Orca, the Killer Whale Orca, the Killer Whale Ohca the Killer.
- 7:27Have you guys seen Orca The Killer Whale?
- 7:29Of course not.
- 7:29Probably not, because there's no cars in it.
- 7:32Thanks.
- 7:32We're not one dimensional.
- 7:34He also wrote Mission Impossible.
- 7:36Right?
- 7:36Mission Impossible.
- 7:37And Mission Impossible too.
- 7:39But hey, we can't win 'em all.
- 7:40Am I right?
- 7:42And the firm.
- 7:43Okay.
- 7:44But there's another writer on this movie, guys.
- 7:46Thomas Cruz.
- 7:48Oh, who's he?
- 7:49Steve?
- 7:49Well, he's basically wrote this.
- 7:52I didn't know that.
- 7:53And an upcoming SpaceX project to be released the next five years or whatever.
- 7:57Uh, but you've probably seen him act in a handful of things like Tropic Thunder.
- 8:01Oh, okay.
- 8:02Obscure things like Tropic Thunder.
- 8:03Yeah.
- 8:03Tropic Thunder.
- 8:05I'm trying to think of like an obscure Tom Cruise movie, but
- 8:07there really isn't any Oops.
- 8:08All that Night and day former SCCA former Trans Am racer.
- 8:14Tom Cruise.
- 8:15That's right.
- 8:15He dra he raced with Paul Newman.
- 8:17Yeah, he wasn't very good apparently.
- 8:20What?
- 8:21That's why he just was like, you know what, screw it.
- 8:23I'm just gonna buy myself a, uh, le Was it a, a Russian, uh, bomber jet?
- 8:28What is, what is the plane he owns?
- 8:29One of the planes ends, well, according to Tropic Thunder, it's a G five.
- 8:32Oh, there you go.
- 8:33G five.
- 8:34Well, you know, I, I do, I do go to Tropic Thunder for all of
- 8:37my super accurate information.
- 8:39Les Goldman is one of my favorite characters.
- 8:41I'm just gonna say she does drink lots of booy sweat.
- 8:44It's true.
- 8:45Tom Cruise also stars in this movie.
- 8:47Guys.
- 8:47What?
- 8:48He's the one playing Cold Trickle.
- 8:49The writer of the movie has a cameo in this movie that never happens.
- 8:55Cameo.
- 8:57Like not every single scene of the movie.
- 9:00Like he's not just scouring in the shadows of other, when
- 9:03other characters are talking.
- 9:05You're that little guy in the corner.
- 9:06Eh?
- 9:06I don't mind him.
- 9:08We don't talk to him much.
- 9:09Wait, so how tall is Tom Cruise?
- 9:11I don't know.
- 9:12You're the guy who knows Celebrity Heights.
- 9:13He's five foot two.
- 9:14I'll, I'll throw it out there.
- 9:15I dunno.
- 9:16Do you over under, does he come up to your belt or your nipples?
- 9:20Oh, I didn't stand next to him.
- 9:22I didn't put him up on my shoulder and help him reach the top shelf.
- 9:26You could though, right?
- 9:27I mean, I don't know.
- 9:28He's probably a little bigger than that.
- 9:29He's five foot seven guys.
- 9:31Is that on the internet?
- 9:32So do you guys think they had a cold Kidman taller than me?
- 9:35I don't know how tall you are.
- 9:36I've never met you.
- 9:37Five seven.
- 9:38Oh, okay.
- 9:39Yes.
- 9:39I do think Nicole kid's taller than you.
- 9:41Yeah, she's, she's gotta be like six foot, right.
- 9:44I thought she was, but she's actually five 11.
- 9:46I mean, she is Australian.
- 9:48I was about to say, I think she's five 11 or be sure that's not like
- 9:50metric conversion or something, like it gets lost from Australia to hear.
- 9:54No.
- 9:54Well, the problem is, yeah, I don't, she's probably always in three
- 9:57inch heels, so she is seemingly six foot, she's an Australian five 11.
- 10:03She's always in heels.
- 10:04Tom is always standing on a soapbox like they're the perfect power couple.
- 10:07Yes.
- 10:08Because they are the same height throughout the movie.
- 10:10Yes.
- 10:11Yeah.
- 10:11I, no, no.
- 10:12There's a couple of scenes where you can tell she's taller than him because
- 10:15they try to shoot it at weird angles.
- 10:16Specifically when like he's trying to do like his neurological tests.
- 10:20Mm-hmm.
- 10:21Yeah.
- 10:21There's like the shots of them both supposed to be, uh, flatfooted.
- 10:24There's a reason why those are weird angles.
- 10:26Y'all, Uhhuh, he's trying to balance on top of a chair.
- 10:30Well, one of the thing is when you look it up online, you know what his height is?
- 10:33There's a thing right below it says, is Tom Cruise Actually five seven.
- 10:37And I clicked on that and it brings up Tom Cruise stands
- 10:39approximately five feet, seven.
- 10:41Oh my goodness.
- 10:43It depends on if he's wearing his heels.
- 10:45Five foot five.
- 10:46There's approximately 7 billion people on this planet.
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:50Give, give or take a bill.
- 10:52Yeah, exactly.
- 10:53But, uh, guys, Robert Duvall, as you mentioned, is in this movie.
- 10:56Tanya mentioned a whole bunch of 'em.
- 10:58Uh, a couple ones I just wanna throw in there.
- 11:00Gone in 60 seconds.
- 11:02Ah, yeah.
- 11:03Always good.
- 11:04Open range.
- 11:04Secondhand lions.
- 11:06Deep impact.
- 11:07Lonesome Dove.
- 11:09Yeah.
- 11:09Yeah.
- 11:09Lonesome Dove.
- 11:10There we go.
- 11:11Gods and Generals.
- 11:12Good.
- 11:12Oh yeah, yeah, that's a good one.
- 11:14Has there ever been a movie that Duval was in that wasn't good?
- 11:18Oh, we do watch a lot of bad westerns with my mother.
- 11:21Yeah.
- 11:21I say, hold on, hold on.
- 11:22I, I was trying to remember if he was like in Ghost Writer or something,
- 11:25like, no, no, that's Henry Fonda.
- 11:27Dude.
- 11:28Duvall would've added an extra star to that movie, so it would've had
- 11:31two, two stars because Nick Cage, Lamber and Duval equals two stars.
- 11:37Oh, Lamber was in the second one.
- 11:38That's right.
- 11:38He was in the second one.
- 11:39And Raselva, but no.
- 11:41Oh, that's right.
- 11:42So that one gets two stars as well, at least.
- 11:44Yeah.
- 11:45Speaking of two stars, Nicole Kidman as Dr. Claire Lewicki.
- 11:49You guys might know her from Moulin Rouge, Batman forever, far and away.
- 11:53BMX Bandits the hours.
- 11:55Aquaman the Northman Practical magic birth.
- 11:59Mm. Birth, uh, trespass, be witch, cold Mountain to die for anybody else,
- 12:05we might also know her as the woman formerly married to the writer of this
- 12:09particular movie who does a cameo.
- 12:10She was married to Robert Town.
- 12:16Gary Heimer.
- 12:18Yes.
- 12:19Yes, yes.
- 12:19Uh, also married to Tom Cruise at some point.
- 12:23Gosh, who else?
- 12:24We got Randy Quaid in this movie.
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:26Kerry s Michael Rucker.
- 12:28ELLs.
- 12:28It's Kerry Elway El Always.
- 12:30Whatever it's from Princess Bride.
- 12:33Yeah.
- 12:33Carries.
- 12:33I know what also, and saw, what was it?
- 12:36The Christmas Castle.
- 12:38Oh yeah.
- 12:39Random Hallmark movies from time to time in Shields.
- 12:42That's one of the better Hallmark movies.
- 12:43Okay.
- 12:44Margot Martindale?
- 12:46Yes.
- 12:47Uh, John c Re, Senator Fred Thompson.
- 12:50Everybody's in this movie.
- 12:52I, I think I wrote down a couple more in my notes, like, oh, shit.
- 12:55That's, I think the only person that's not really notable is the
- 12:59guy that plays rowdy in this.
- 13:01You're like, who is that guy?
- 13:01Michael Rucker.
- 13:02What?
- 13:03Michael Rucker.
- 13:03Michael Rucker.
- 13:04Yado or whatever.
- 13:06Yondu Henry portrait of a killer or whatever.
- 13:08Yeah, yeah.
- 13:09Mm mm Yeah.
- 13:10I don't know.
- 13:11A whole bunch of seasons of the Walking Dead.
- 13:13Wait, he was only in the first episode.
- 13:15Did you not know who he was?
- 13:16I mean, I've seen his face.
- 13:18I just never see him in anything that I watch.
- 13:20Okay.
- 13:21He was in Guardians of the Galaxy also, Eric's not a Marvel guy though.
- 13:24As what?
- 13:25As the dude with the the Mobile star Lord's blue daddy or whatever.
- 13:29Yeah.
- 13:29What y'all do with the whistle arrow thing.
- 13:31Yeah.
- 13:31Yes.
- 13:32Mary Poppins.
- 13:32Y'all sure?
- 13:33Yeah.
- 13:33Come on now.
- 13:34Yes.
- 13:34All of that's true.
- 13:38Apparently he's not in many racing movies is what I'm hearing.
- 13:41He's in this one and it's the only one that counts.
- 13:44Or Hallmark Christmas movies, whatever Eric watches.
- 13:46I dunno.
- 13:47Michael Rucker in Brooke Shields in the Christmas Castle too.
- 13:50Guys, watch the Christmas castle.
- 13:52It's so stupid, but.
- 13:54Also charming.
- 13:55Speaking of, I took your recommendation from the last time we got together and I
- 13:59watched the knockoff movie with Van Dam.
- 14:03Yeah.
- 14:03Oh, that's what we we're here to talk about then.
- 14:07What did you think of knockoff two thumbs up over here?
- 14:10It was awesome.
- 14:12It's so bad you can't stop watching it.
- 14:14Right?
- 14:14A thousand percent.
- 14:15It was, I digress.
- 14:17All right, well, how'd you guys, uh, watch Days of Thunder?
- 14:19You have like your Blu-rays at home or, so I do have the DVD, however,
- 14:26it didn't feel like firing up.
- 14:27The only thing I could play it on, which would be the Xbox, it streams on
- 14:31Paramount Plus, so I watched it there.
- 14:34Yeah.
- 14:34It is a Tom Cruise movie.
- 14:35So Tanya's right there, I mean, what Self-Respecting Car Enthusiast doesn't
- 14:39have a copy of Days of Thunder on DVD.
- 14:41Granted, I have a copy of Tanya's copy of her DVD, but I watched it on Fandango.
- 14:49Oh man.
- 14:49The copy of the copy of the DVD is like, that's a dying heritage thing of ours.
- 14:54Like, that's why they don't make DVDs.
- 14:56They like, like, you know how like UNESCO had like trace to protect
- 14:59the like intangible, uh, heritage things like the copy of the copy of
- 15:03the cd, they're, they're going away.
- 15:05We have to preserve our heritage.
- 15:06It's like, it's like cursive right there next to mix tapes.
- 15:09What are we talking about?
- 15:10Yeah.
- 15:11Yeah.
- 15:11Babe, what was the last time somebody gave you a mix tape?
- 15:13I also failed to mention I did not watch the movie alone.
- 15:16Oh.
- 15:18Oh.
- 15:18He made his kids watch it.
- 15:20I watched it with Brad and I brought the sweet and low packets.
- 15:24Oh my.
- 15:26Wow.
- 15:27Don't lie.
- 15:28You watched it.
- 15:29I was looking through your window binoculars.
- 15:32I was channeling my inner Tanya watching it that way.
- 15:36We did have ice cream.
- 15:37We did have ice cream.
- 15:38Nobody invited me over.
- 15:40We had ice cream.
- 15:43We shared a meal at Bdubs and then went home and watched it.
- 15:46We did.
- 15:47It was, it was nice.
- 15:48It was a good time.
- 15:49Yeah, it was nice.
- 15:49Very sensual.
- 15:50Yeah.
- 15:50Tender moment.
- 15:51Very, very well backlit and we had to pause a couple times.
- 15:56Did you place again?
- 15:58Sweet and low packets, I'm telling you.
- 16:00We'll, yeah, we'll get there.
- 16:02It works every time.
- 16:03He showed me how to draft,
- 16:09get prepared for this racing season.
- 16:11Oh yeah.
- 16:12Robin was racing that night.
- 16:16So, speaking of racing, all right, we hit play.
- 16:18Oh my heart's racing now.
- 16:20Music Montage City.
- 16:22Yeah.
- 16:23We get a nice shot of the track at Sunrise and, uh, I, I don't know, have
- 16:27you guys ever been to a race track before?
- 16:30No.
- 16:30Never.
- 16:30Never, never.
- 16:31Okay.
- 16:31Okay.
- 16:32I just, I was just curious like, like to me, this, I might as
- 16:34well have been looking at like, I don't know, middle earth.
- 16:37'cause I'm like, oh yeah, okay.
- 16:38There's a road, there's bleachers on the side.
- 16:40Okay.
- 16:41Must be a parade or something coming along.
- 16:42I don't know.
- 16:43I will say the opening shot with the music montage and the shots of Daytona
- 16:48and, oh dude, the confederate flags, the cigarettes, the beer, the Richard Petty.
- 16:55I'm like, fucking eighties.
- 16:56Let me in.
- 16:59I was like, well, those flags didn't age well.
- 17:03This is childhood right here.
- 17:04My goodness.
- 17:05Ugh.
- 17:06I was telling Steve, like I didn't watch a ton of like NASCAR and that, but
- 17:11when I did, it was like during the time period of which this is all shot and one
- 17:17of our friends would throw a uh, indie 500 party, like the way like people do,
- 17:21like the uh, uh, Kentucky Derby parties.
- 17:24Yeah.
- 17:24We'd all go over to their house and like basically the TV would be on
- 17:27mute for until like the last 10 laps.
- 17:29But we'd all get together and there'd be beers and snacks
- 17:32and all of that, you know.
- 17:34And the sad part, Izzy, I'm on the other side.
- 17:35I feel like I never left this era of nascar.
- 17:38'cause I can't name three current NASCAR drivers.
- 17:41But I can tell you everything that happened back then,
- 17:43we tried doing that too.
- 17:44I'm like, I think Kyle Busch is still driving or does he retire?
- 17:48Is he coach now?
- 17:49Like ge, Jeff Gordon.
- 17:50Is he dead?
- 17:51Like, like we were seriously, like I'm sure Earnhardt.
- 17:54Junior, maybe the third.
- 17:56Now, I don't know.
- 17:57I, I haven't really paid attention.
- 17:59Like, I don't even know what app or channel or somebody
- 18:04would go to to watch it.
- 18:05Oh, well it's gotta be on Fox.
- 18:07If you, if you got one of the names from back then, the last names,
- 18:09there's a chance they have a racing team or affiliated with the current
- 18:12racing team or something like that.
- 18:15But as for drivers, it's like good luck naming any of the new ones.
- 18:19Yeah.
- 18:19Yeah.
- 18:19Joe Gibbs is still around, right?
- 18:21Oh man.
- 18:22Wow.
- 18:23There's a poll.
- 18:24Joe Gibbs.
- 18:26It's a football coach.
- 18:27That's why I know it.
- 18:30But yeah, guys, we got a race.
- 18:31It's race day.
- 18:34We meet, uh, rowdy, uh, what's his last name?
- 18:37Rowdy.
- 18:38Rowdy.
- 18:38Rowdy Piper.
- 18:39Yeah.
- 18:39Rowdy Piper.
- 18:40Yeah.
- 18:40Yeah.
- 18:40Rowdy Burns.
- 18:41Rowdy Burns.
- 18:42That's his name.
- 18:43But yeah, rowdy Piper, Michael Rucker.
- 18:45He is, uh, he takes out Richard Petty during the race or whatever,
- 18:48and I'm like, he did the King Dirty.
- 18:51I did.
- 18:51Yeah.
- 18:53I surprised Richard signed off on that.
- 18:56But did we actually see Richard Petty or they just said it was Richard Petty?
- 18:59No, he was there when they were like interviewing the guys.
- 19:02He had a cameo.
- 19:03Yeah.
- 19:03Oh, okay.
- 19:04I have to go back.
- 19:05And I didn't notice it because I was like, I thought Petty was done by that point.
- 19:08Racing.
- 19:09Maybe not, maybe just thereafter, but still.
- 19:11Anyway, 1990, I think he was wrapping up.
- 19:14He was starting his acting career.
- 19:16Yeah.
- 19:16Apparently him and uh, Sam Elliot, were gonna have like a little spinoff.
- 19:21Oh my God.
- 19:22And a love child.
- 19:24Days of mustache.
- 19:26Of the the car for him that he pushes him off track on.
- 19:29I couldn't help but to get the feel of, it was like a kind of throwback.
- 19:33To Earnhardt being known as the intimidator, being aggressive,
- 19:36pushing people off track and stuff.
- 19:38Hard to be a throwback when Dale was still relevant at the time.
- 19:41It, it was like they threw it out there as a subtle, you know, comparison.
- 19:45But yes, I think it was intentional.
- 19:47Well, if you think about the rest of the drivers that were in the
- 19:49movie and the names that were used, Earnhardt didn't show up.
- 19:53So you could say that Rowdy was Earnhardt in some respects.
- 19:57But the question is, who was Tom Cruise then?
- 19:59Was he like Dale Jarret or something like I Dick Trickle?
- 20:02Dick Trickle?
- 20:02No, I think, I think it was supposed to be Jeff Gordon.
- 20:04Oh, okay.
- 20:05I don't think Gordon came around for another year or two.
- 20:07Like he was very Jeff Gordon from, yeah, what I could, that makes sense.
- 20:10What limited knowledge I have.
- 20:12But you know, California boy coming on down, there was a great quote there.
- 20:16As they're talking about him, did you catch that it's Duval and
- 20:20Qua are talking at some point?
- 20:22Oh, when we leave the race to cut to a random farm in Charlotte for some reason.
- 20:25Yeah, yeah.
- 20:25Well, yeah, they, yeah, it's there.
- 20:27Yeah, exactly.
- 20:28And he's like, is he a Yankee?
- 20:29No, he's from California.
- 20:31And if you're California, you're not really anything.
- 20:33And I was like, what?
- 20:34What?
- 20:35What are we talking about here?
- 20:37There's some good old boys.
- 20:39From what I understand, qua owns a few, uh, used car lots or something.
- 20:42Yes.
- 20:43But he wants to start a racing team and so he goes to the, the old vet, Robert
- 20:47Duvall, who's retired from the sport.
- 20:49Another good quote from Duvall when they're on the farm, he says, worse
- 20:52things than spreading a little fertilizer.
- 20:54And I'm like, there's some good one liners in this movie.
- 20:56I'm telling you.
- 20:57Classic writing and re retired.
- 21:00Definitely not because of investigation.
- 21:02You know, the, the Nick Saban route we like to call it in other sports.
- 21:06What other people can pay now.
- 21:08Well, shit, I'm retiring.
- 21:09Implications.
- 21:10Exactly.
- 21:11I need you to come back for, you know, one more, one more job.
- 21:14One more good race or one more.
- 21:16Got this kid.
- 21:17I just need you to build a car for him.
- 21:19Alright.
- 21:20This kid from California, they don't have the, the car built yet.
- 21:24Still wants to see like what kind of driver he is.
- 21:26So they borrow Rowdy's car.
- 21:28And then Tom Cruise comes rolling in straight off the set of Top Gun
- 21:34on a motorcycle and everything.
- 21:36Well, he did switch the, uh, Crocket to a cruiser, though I didn't even pay
- 21:40that much of attention to the bike.
- 21:41I just knew he was on a bike.
- 21:43He looks funny on a cruiser.
- 21:44Yeah, he does.
- 21:45'cause he is so small.
- 21:46We, we covered.
- 21:47Yeah, like, like it might be a little too big for him.
- 21:49It's like a kid on a big wheel.
- 21:51Oh, five foot seven of Tom Cruise.
- 21:53Wink, wink.
- 21:53The towering man.
- 21:55That is Tom Cruise.
- 21:56He's got a little pedal risers on there so he can pop the clutch if need be.
- 22:00He's used to being a, a backpack.
- 22:02Where's my basket?
- 22:03So then they start arguing about borrowing Rowdy's car, which I thought was all
- 22:07arranged and that whole kind of thing.
- 22:09Right.
- 22:09I thought it was really funny.
- 22:11At some point they asked him about his experience.
- 22:14Yeah.
- 22:14Basically he's got none.
- 22:16Yeah.
- 22:16Like I saw it on ESPN.
- 22:18What you can learn a lot on ES, espn.
- 22:21I'm like, excuse me.
- 22:23Even I'm skeptical at that point, like, forget being good old boy in
- 22:26this California Yankee or whatever.
- 22:28I'm like, I'm sorry you've never driven a professional stock car.
- 22:32Like, eh, can't be too different from, uh, these other things.
- 22:35Like, oh, I assure you it is 10 years later it would've been video games.
- 22:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:40It had been F1, the movie or whatever.
- 22:42Yeah.
- 22:43I played it on Forza Grand Charisma.
- 22:45That's it.
- 22:46That's it.
- 22:47Did anybody pick up that Randy Quaid was that he was bitching about how
- 22:51much it cost to rent the track?
- 22:52Did you hear what he said?
- 22:53It was like 2,500 or something like that.
- 22:55Yeah.
- 22:55To rent the tr hour.
- 22:57For the day.
- 22:58Oh, for the day.
- 22:59I was like, my God, it's so cheap.
- 23:01It's so cheap.
- 23:01Even with the, yeah.
- 23:02You have to remember, gas is 79 cents a gallon and Yeah.
- 23:06If you made $19,000 a year, you like could buy three houses.
- 23:11Yeah.
- 23:11Desert Storm hadn't started yet.
- 23:13Not to take too much of an off ramp here, but Brad pointed something
- 23:17out to me about this point in the movie that I never realized before.
- 23:20Right.
- 23:20So we mentioned during, we were talking about the people
- 23:22that were in the movie, John C.
- 23:23Reilly, I'm sure we'll get to this at some point.
- 23:26John c re was in Talladega Knights Sure was.
- 23:29He plays the exact same character, literally the exact same character,
- 23:32more or less, but he's a driver.
- 23:33But Brad goes.
- 23:35Look at the helmet, and I'm like, wait, what?
- 23:38Brad, do you wanna explain the rest of this?
- 23:39Look at the helmet thing you told me.
- 23:41To me it looked like it was the same kind of red, white, and blue as the Old
- 23:44Spice helmets that he was wearing in.
- 23:46Yeah.
- 23:46Talladega Knights.
- 23:47Talladega Knights basically shake and bake this movie off.
- 23:50Yes.
- 23:50It's a parody of this movie.
- 23:52Right.
- 23:52And this movie, ripped Off Top Gun,
- 23:57made the circle and Broken.
- 24:01Show me the sweet and low packets in Top Gun.
- 24:04Yeah, that's the volleyball scene.
- 24:06Oh, oh yeah.
- 24:07Who low we got?
- 24:12Yeah.
- 24:12So, uh, what happens to, yeah, so they're like, Hey, come
- 24:15on, take, take a chance on me.
- 24:16Let me, let me show you what I can do.
- 24:18And they're like, all right.
- 24:20He goes out there, he does like a 31 second lap or whatever, which
- 24:23apparently pretty dang good.
- 24:25He starts asking like, I, I heard you got fired by your last sponsor or whatever.
- 24:29And you know, he is like, yeah, yeah, we don't need to talk about that.
- 24:32I just need a car, man.
- 24:33I can drive.
- 24:33You know I can drive.
- 24:34Come on.
- 24:35And then we cut to Harry, just sweet talking the frame of a car saying,
- 24:39oh baby, I'm gonna be so good to you.
- 24:42I'm gonna make you so fast.
- 24:45Oh, you ain't even gonna love it.
- 24:47Talk about like Burgess Meredith in a jet.
- 24:50Thank you.
- 24:51That's what I wrote down.
- 24:52I wrote down the last Chase exclamation points.
- 24:57Oh babe, you let me inside of you.
- 24:59We're gonna go places.
- 25:01He wasn't creepy though, wasn't it though?
- 25:03Burgess Meredith was creepy.
- 25:04He was creepy.
- 25:06No, no.
- 25:06It was.
- 25:07Yes.
- 25:10I mean, we all talk to inanimate objects like that, right?
- 25:12Just all the time.
- 25:13I'm more of a like you stupid piece of shit.
- 25:16Yeah, that You die on me now.
- 25:17No, no, no.
- 25:17Please, please.
- 25:18Just start baby.
- 25:19I swear.
- 25:19I swear.
- 25:20I'll get you a tune up.
- 25:20Just start this one time for me.
- 25:22Please, please, please.
- 25:22Just, just turn on.
- 25:24Just, just, just turn over.
- 25:25You ain't even gotta be smooth.
- 25:26You just gotta get me off this freeway.
- 25:28Please, please, please.
- 25:29Us in the van the other day.
- 25:31Yeah.
- 25:32Oh God.
- 25:32Damnit.
- 25:32It's like Nicholas Cage and Eleanor gone in 60 seconds.
- 25:35Pat the dash like there you go.
- 25:38But you know, we get a nice little building montage where they get
- 25:41the car all ready for the track.
- 25:43Sponsored by Chitty Chevy.
- 25:45That's right.
- 25:45Lemon Lime, no CI City Chevy.
- 25:47I guess that's uh, Quaids Place.
- 25:50And now we're at Phoenix International Race Wave.
- 25:52Yeah.
- 25:53And we uh, get to the race and of course Rowdy's trade paint.
- 25:57Ah, yeah.
- 25:59That's where we find out Rubbing is racing baby.
- 26:01Rubbing is racing gospel according to Robert Duvall rubbing his racing.
- 26:05I don't watch a lot of racing because I've got everything to do.
- 26:09Do they like sandwich the other cars and like knock 'em all over the track and
- 26:13stuff like it's portrayed in this movie?
- 26:14'cause that seems.
- 26:16Dangerous.
- 26:17They'll go three abreast, but it's usually not ping pong ho it's not
- 26:22ping pong like you saw in the movie.
- 26:25That was very much exaggerated.
- 26:26You know, obviously for the drama and for the excitement.
- 26:29I mean, they, I believe they call that a dramatization.
- 26:32Yes.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:33Dramatization, like skipping 300 laps.
- 26:35Yeah, they do go three wide and stuff, so yeah, that's, that's true.
- 26:39I believe the term was three abreast, like total recall.
- 26:42Yes, yes, yes.
- 26:44But it was also a different time back then in the eighties.
- 26:48Yeah, that, that's kinda why I was asking too.
- 26:50'cause like I know nowadays it's like, oh, they incidentally touched, that's like a
- 26:54two race suspension or, you know, it, not quite that extreme, but it's like, it's
- 26:58very much like safety in mind since, uh, I think of it like, basketball Babe only
- 27:02touched that guy, spent it for two games.
- 27:04I mean, 83 goddamn points for BA anyway.
- 27:07But, but yeah, I, I just know it's like a lot more like, all
- 27:10right, bring out the warning flag.
- 27:12Well we're gonna have half this race with the warning flags and stuff like that.
- 27:15Like, ever since Dale Earnhardt may or may not be the, the rowdy burns
- 27:19of this movie, since he passed in a questionable means, it's like, well,
- 27:23okay, triple down on the safety.
- 27:25Absolutely.
- 27:25But, but yeah, I don't know if like seventies and eighties it was more like,
- 27:28oh yeah, they had six shooters and were allowed to pop 'em every once in a while.
- 27:32Just, it's a wild West just to assert dominance.
- 27:34Yeah.
- 27:34Yeah, exactly.
- 27:35You know what, babe?
- 27:36I think I have a way to bring us all back to racing.
- 27:40Death race, 2000.
- 27:41Absolutely.
- 27:42Yep.
- 27:42I do recall races back then where after the races were done and there
- 27:46was contact out on the track, there were fights in the paddocks afterwards.
- 27:50Oh, a hundred percent.
- 27:51Yeah.
- 27:52Four.
- 27:53NASCAR started getting strict and not allowing that sort
- 27:55of actions from the drivers.
- 27:57It happened somewhat regularly because NASCAR's pussies is what I'm hearing.
- 28:01Yeah, sure.
- 28:02Sponsors, you know, sponsors or pussies.
- 28:05That's what I'm hearing.
- 28:07That's why whoever we, well yeah, now they're not smokes and beer
- 28:10and whiskey and welcome to the Crown Royal 400 or whatever.
- 28:15Yeah.
- 28:15Welcome to the Marlboro 400, where it's gonna end.
- 28:18Winston Cup series.
- 28:19You say its with bear buckle knocks boxing.
- 28:23We're down the last five drivers, but now they're putting on the gloves, dipping it
- 28:27in broken glass, and going at each other.
- 28:29So this is where another one of my favorite lines comes from in the movie.
- 28:33So you, as you mentioned, he's kind of bouncing off of
- 28:36everything or hitting everything.
- 28:37They kind of montage all his wrecks through this whole first part here.
- 28:41One of the races he comes in, he comes into the pit and Duval walks up to him and
- 28:46he's like, I want you to hit the pace car.
- 28:49And he's like, what?
- 28:49He goes, go out there and hit the pace car.
- 28:52He's like, why do you want me to hit the pace?
- 28:54Because you hit everything else out there and I want you to be perfect.
- 28:58I'm like, I love it.
- 29:00I love it so much.
- 29:01During this montage of all of his wrecks and stuff, I'm like, I'm dumping his ass.
- 29:05If I'm Randy Quaid, like, like, this guy doesn't know, knows terrible what he's
- 29:09doing, or maybe they're just targeted him or whatever, you know, California
- 29:13boy, whatever, blah, blah, blah.
- 29:14But I'm still like, I, I don't know, man.
- 29:16This is, doesn't seem to be having the return.
- 29:19Was it now or later in the movie when someone in the pit crew was talking about,
- 29:23oh, well this panel's still nice, and then Duval walks up and puts his boot in it.
- 29:27Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:29No, that's, that's at the end of the montage at night and, and it's
- 29:32um, buck, it's John c re points out.
- 29:34He's like, look at that panel.
- 29:35We don't have to fix it.
- 29:37And Duval puts his boot right in there and he and John c
- 29:39Reilly's like, why'd you do that?
- 29:40And he goes.
- 29:41I don't want you to be spoiled Buck.
- 29:44I was like, oh my God.
- 29:46I love at that point.
- 29:47But when at the montage, Robert Duvall's character has basically just given up and
- 29:52he is like, yeah, it's a freight train.
- 29:53I'm just gonna sit back and join.
- 29:54So he is sitting there eating the damn Popsicle alongside of the track while
- 29:57he is there sitting in the Talking to, you're taking Eric's thunder.
- 30:00Dude.
- 30:01It's my favorite scene of the whole movie.
- 30:04I need to pit.
- 30:05I need to pit.
- 30:06No, you can't.
- 30:06Can't pit.
- 30:07We're busy.
- 30:08You busy.
- 30:09Whatcha doing?
- 30:10We're eating ice cream.
- 30:13You are welcome to come on in and get yourself some, come down
- 30:16here and get some ice cream.
- 30:18It's like, shit.
- 30:22And then quad's like, come on you guys.
- 30:24You look like a monkey.
- 30:25Fucking a football dude.
- 30:27Now I know where I got that phrase from.
- 30:29I got from this movie.
- 30:30I never realized that.
- 30:32Same here.
- 30:33And the best part is all of this stuff happens in like the first 15 minutes
- 30:39in my mind, having not seen this movie in like 30 years, I thought it happened
- 30:44like throughout the movie, like it's like, oh yeah, this scene's coming and
- 30:48that scene and the ice cream scene.
- 30:49No, it's in the first 15 minutes.
- 30:52It's like, holy shit.
- 30:53My overall feeling of this movie, the first 15 minutes and the last seven
- 30:59minutes, all I remember about this movie.
- 31:01I remember some things from the hour and 20 minutes in between, but it's like, oh.
- 31:07Yeah, hit injury.
- 31:08Cool.
- 31:09Alright.
- 31:09Drama.
- 31:10I don't need that shit.
- 31:11I need the bruckheimer.
- 31:12You know what I mean?
- 31:13I need, I need to be fighting some Russian migs.
- 31:16See, but the way you described it is just like watching a NASCAR race back then.
- 31:21The first 15 minutes were exciting.
- 31:23You kind of fell asleep in the middle and you watched the last
- 31:25seven minutes for the checkered flag.
- 31:27Boom.
- 31:28There you go.
- 31:28You just explained racing right there.
- 31:30In a nutshell, it's a metaphor.
- 31:33I guess about seven or eight years ago I went to my first NASCAR race live.
- 31:36Well, only one I've been to live.
- 31:38'cause I was invited as a guest and no lie, the first five minutes epic.
- 31:41Then I was like, okay, I'm sitting there twirling my thumbs for like an hour
- 31:43and then it's down to like the last 10 laps and they start racing hard again.
- 31:46And I'm like, okay.
- 31:47And then it got interesting.
- 31:48Yep.
- 31:48Rest of 'em, like now I understand why NASCAR fans drink as
- 31:51much as they do to kill time.
- 31:52Yep.
- 31:54And that's just racing in general.
- 31:55It's the same way at Rolex 24 at F1 race, you know it gets a 90 minute race.
- 32:01You, you watch the first few laps and then you walk around the paddock
- 32:04and the vendors and then, oh, there's 10 laps left all let's go watch.
- 32:08At least with the multiple turns, I think there's more
- 32:11excitement than going in a circle.
- 32:13Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying.
- 32:14They should all be demo derbies with like that figure eight track and everything.
- 32:18Yeah.
- 32:18Yes.
- 32:18We're simply cut it down to 20 lap, total start to finish.
- 32:22They're hauling ass like dirt track and NASCAR originally was.
- 32:25They should all be sprint races.
- 32:26Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 32:28Who or those?
- 32:28Uh, the was the three car trains or whatever where
- 32:31you got the driver up front?
- 32:32The empty one in the middle and the brake guy in the back.
- 32:35Yeah, that sounds safe.
- 32:36No, it's not safe at all.
- 32:37That's why it's awesome.
- 32:38No, that's why it's like at the county fair or some shit, you know.
- 32:43Have you seen one where the one car is on top, the other one and the person
- 32:46on top is steering and the person on the bottom's controlling the top gear?
- 32:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:50Good stuff.
- 32:50Yeah, safety is questionable.
- 32:52Much like the bar scene that comes after this.
- 32:55But guys, we got a problem.
- 32:56Tom Cruise, he can't finish the races 'cause he keeps crashing,
- 32:59his car's getting fucked up.
- 33:01He just can't communicate with Harry.
- 33:03It's like they're talking completely different languages.
- 33:05I don't know what it is, but hey, if we don't get a good sponsor, we're done.
- 33:09Guys.
- 33:09We gotta learn to trust one another.
- 33:11That's what it's about.
- 33:12Trust.
- 33:13And so we cut to a bar where trust is ironed out because
- 33:17that's just how men do it.
- 33:19Harry and, uh, Cole, Tom Cruise and Robert Deval, they're chatting and, uh,
- 33:23we find out Tom's dirty little secret.
- 33:25He doesn't know shit about cars.
- 33:27Yeah.
- 33:28Like the terminology, like, oh, you talk about like taking
- 33:30a wedge and blah, blah, blah.
- 33:31And I'm like, I feel you, Tom.
- 33:33I don't know shit about cars, but you know what, I'm not a NASCAR driver.
- 33:38Well, neither was he for this either.
- 33:39So yeah, he drove outlaws.
- 33:42They don't talk about cars on ESPN apparently through about the
- 33:45fact that he, you know, he saw it on ESPN and that's, that's the
- 33:48best way to keep track of nascar.
- 33:50Just the five minute high highlights on ESPN.
- 33:53I assume that's why this is a sequel to Top Gun because he's been a
- 33:55fighter pilot for so goddamn long.
- 33:57He doesn't know anything about cars, but he is like, I just gotta go fast and
- 34:00motorcycles just aren't doing it for me.
- 34:02But you know what I appreciate about this movie though?
- 34:04It's for every scene, like the bar scene.
- 34:07That is, let's say a little bit more serious or a little bit more dramatic
- 34:11or a little bit more intimate.
- 34:13There is some sort of comedy that comes right behind it.
- 34:17So what they did here is they give you a little bit of exposition.
- 34:20They told you Tom Cruise done the shit about cars.
- 34:22And Robert Duvall's like, okay, yeah, all right, I got you sucker.
- 34:26And they go into that very next race and he's out there and he's running like crap.
- 34:31Robert Dupaul gets on the radio and he is like.
- 34:33I just need to tell you, you are match perfect and staggered special.
- 34:37And he's like, what?
- 34:38He's like the tires, they're match perfect and staggered special and he's
- 34:42just making shit up complete bull crap.
- 34:45But then Tom Cruise goes out and turns, you know, the miracle mile and it's,
- 34:48you know, it's the end of the story.
- 34:49So for me, I, I love that little bit of comedy that comes after
- 34:53the series and you start to see that pattern develop throughout
- 34:56the movie from this point forward.
- 34:57And I thought it, I think that's actually fantastic.
- 35:00It's a great mentor learning experience for him as Robert and him, especially
- 35:05later in the movie where he is like, you got special tires, you can make this turn.
- 35:08He is like, you don't, don't do that.
- 35:09Turn.
- 35:09You got it.
- 35:09Take it on the high side.
- 35:11You got special tires.
- 35:12And it's 'cause he told him that he believed it, so he is
- 35:14like, okay, I'm gonna do it.
- 35:15Exactly.
- 35:16Robert DeVos was thinking, okay, I just killed this kid, but.
- 35:20And with that guy's, guess what?
- 35:22He got his first win.
- 35:23Oh shit, we got a sponsor.
- 35:25Life's good roll credits, guys.
- 35:26What do we think of?
- 35:28Oh wait, this is just the first day of Thunder Uhhuh.
- 35:31We have multiple days to go.
- 35:33Yeah, they got there to do sponsor, what was it?
- 35:34Super flow Motor oil or whatever.
- 35:36Yep.
- 35:37Oh my God.
- 35:38And we got the story about, uh, Cole's last sponsor,
- 35:41like racing team or whatever.
- 35:43Why he got dropped because real asshole and blah, blah, blah.
- 35:46Oh, by the way, it's my dad.
- 35:50And, and this is all in the back of the trailers.
- 35:51They're going on to the next race or whatever.
- 35:53Yep.
- 35:54But whoop, whoop, that's the sound of the police.
- 35:56They're getting pulled over.
- 35:58All right.
- 35:58Bang.
- 35:58Yeah, there, get outta there.
- 36:00And I'm like, and when they were saying the whole like,
- 36:03all right, line up, line up.
- 36:05Oh, what's this?
- 36:06What's this booze like?
- 36:07Yeah, we're not driving that.
- 36:08That's all I think like I'm allowed to, it's still technically
- 36:11an open container in a vehicle.
- 36:13They're in the trailer in California.
- 36:15That would be considered an open, an open container in a vehicle, babe.
- 36:17I think they're in like one of the Carolinas or something in Utah.
- 36:21That would be considered an open container in a, in a vehicle.
- 36:24Well, okay, you got me there.
- 36:25I always question whether or not it was legal alcohol to have,
- 36:28'cause he had the mason jar, so I was curious if it was shine.
- 36:31I noticed that too.
- 36:32Anytime they're drinking outta the mason jar, I'm like, okay, that's shine.
- 36:34Mm-hmm.
- 36:35Period.
- 36:35Yeah.
- 36:36No, it's water.
- 36:37No, it's shine.
- 36:38It shine.
- 36:39They're, they're, they're using it to take paint off later,
- 36:41you know, like, yeah, exactly.
- 36:43Like, oh, this meow yellow is a little rough.
- 36:45Let's, uh, let's get this off here.
- 36:46But yeah, they get lined up and, uh, one of the officers gets a little,
- 36:50a little handsy with coal uhhuh, uh, starts, uh, grabbing that cucumber.
- 36:55He's obviously shoved in his pants, rolling nickels and like,
- 37:00what's this, what's this here?
- 37:02A concealed weapon.
- 37:04What's this?
- 37:05Is she jack Skeleton?
- 37:07What's this?
- 37:07What's this?
- 37:08Do, do, do, do, do, do.
- 37:10It's throbbing in my pants.
- 37:12No, but,
- 37:14but, uh, but yeah, then, uh, lady Cob starts going, we, we, we, we
- 37:20weep and stripping or whatever.
- 37:22No, Lil Wayne fans.
- 37:23That's cool.
- 37:23I'm the only one.
- 37:24Are you even a fan of Lil Wayne or do you just like making fun of him?
- 37:27Maybe.
- 37:28See serious scene, funny scene.
- 37:30See now we're flip flopping again.
- 37:31It's good stuff.
- 37:32That was the throwback to 1980s porn.
- 37:34I was a throwback to Cannonball Run.
- 37:36Yes, true.
- 37:37Oh yeah.
- 37:37That wasn't Cannonball.
- 37:38Right Now it's Stroker race.
- 37:39The same thing, right?
- 37:40Because that's the movie that this, if we do that succession
- 37:43thing where if we work backwards, Talladega Nights is Days of Thunder.
- 37:47Days of Thunder Goes back to Stroker Ace, another movie we should review,
- 37:50but we'll just leave it there.
- 37:53She was trying to give him a stroke race, but, uh, so yeah, so we're at the
- 37:57next race and you know, Tom Cruise, he's rubbing with Rowdy, you know, and man,
- 38:01there's a big old crash up in front, big, uh, like eight car pile up or whatever.
- 38:05Lot of smoke.
- 38:06They go on through there.
- 38:08Woo.
- 38:09Fucking Tom Cruise hits the gas with his special tires.
- 38:13That's the days of thunder move.
- 38:15It's sort of like in Star Trek, you got the Riker maneuver.
- 38:18This is the days of thunder move.
- 38:19Like you see a big smoke cloud, you can't see shit through it.
- 38:23Visibility is negative.
- 38:24Yeah.
- 38:24What do you do?
- 38:25You downshift and you floor it and you hold on.
- 38:28You straddle that chair and sit in it.
- 38:30Yeah.
- 38:30What are we talking about?
- 38:30The Ryker maneuver.
- 38:31You say, Jesus, Jesus, take the wheel.
- 38:34Just go for it.
- 38:35Right?
- 38:35That's the days of thunder.
- 38:36Stay high, you stay high and you hit the throttle.
- 38:40So again, that's where I'm like, all right, warning flag comes out.
- 38:42All the cars stop.
- 38:43We, we sit around drinking beers for 20 minutes while they clear out the track.
- 38:48No, we just got through that shit, smash cut to them.
- 38:51Uh, being in a, being in a wreck and being a life flighted outta there.
- 38:54You know, we're at the hospital and we see Dr. Kidman for the first time.
- 38:58And again, I'm thinking about eighties porn, Nicole.
- 39:02The whole time's like, oh, I can't see.
- 39:04I can't see guys.
- 39:05I can't see.
- 39:06Like, all right, let's, let's get you to a CAT scan, mate.
- 39:10Look.
- 39:10Okay.
- 39:12In her first couple of scenes, it's like, okay, she's covering up her
- 39:15Australian accent a little bit.
- 39:16Yeah.
- 39:16But then about the end of the second act, it's like all coming out and
- 39:20it's, it's BMX bandit's all over again.
- 39:22And what's her last name supposed to be something like Polish or whatever.
- 39:25It makes no sense.
- 39:26Yeah.
- 39:26Lewicki, yeah.
- 39:27Dr. Lewicki, whatever.
- 39:29But yeah, it's basically she's like, oh, you got a concussion mate.
- 39:32She's like asking Robert Duvall about the helmet, like, was it correct,
- 39:35did it have scratches in the front at the back, and blah, blah blah.
- 39:37And he's like, discuss on the front the back.
- 39:39I think like, I don't know, man.
- 39:40I'm not checking out that Burning Death trap.
- 39:42We pulled him out of, you know, the next morning Tom Cruise can see again.
- 39:46It's okay everybody.
- 39:47It's not gonna be about him learning to live without sight.
- 39:51Days of Thunder, Don Simpson.
- 39:54Jerry Bruckheimer production turns into my left foot for an hour.
- 40:00That's great.
- 40:04Ballsy.
- 40:05But you know, we saw Daniel Day Lewis in my left foot and is like,
- 40:07I can get an Oscar, but the next morning he can finally see again.
- 40:11So now he sees Lady Doctor for the first time, and of course
- 40:14he is like, okay, all right.
- 40:17There's no way this Australian supermodels my god damn neurosurgeon.
- 40:23And, uh, I got a little something to show you and takes her
- 40:27hand and puts it on his shaft.
- 40:29And she's like, eh, I'm not impressed.
- 40:33Mediocre.
- 40:33Yeah.
- 40:36She gives the I Morton, Joe mediocre.
- 40:38All, all the Steve's Australian accents are from episodes
- 40:43of Bluey, every single one.
- 40:45It sounds like the characters from Bluey, you guys, it's worse than that.
- 40:47Steve's never seen an episode than those.
- 40:50He's, uh, basically doing other podcasts.
- 40:53I listen to a lot of podcasts guys.
- 40:55Uh, I thought he sounded like Rice Davies from Flight of the Concord Murray.
- 40:59Oh yeah.
- 41:00Yeah.
- 41:01Little little kiwi in there.
- 41:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:03And you're doing the for finger discount guys?
- 41:05Yeah, pretty much.
- 41:05And, uh oh.
- 41:06Who were the two Kiwi girls who you used to podcast with?
- 41:09Oh yeah, Jocelyn and, uh, Lyn and Emily BPO's, the name of their podcast.
- 41:14They haven't done it in a while, like.
- 41:17Four years.
- 41:18Yeah.
- 41:19Geez.
- 41:19When you were doing the, uh, Australian accent there about her grabbing a shaft.
- 41:23The way you said it made me think of Crocodo ee where he
- 41:26uh, the guy pulls a knife.
- 41:27He's like, you call that a knife?
- 41:28Yeah.
- 41:29Right there about you call that a cock.
- 41:33Oh, CRO.
- 41:34He's just come be.
- 41:36Yeah.
- 41:36Oh my God.
- 41:37Be so cute to put you on your shoulder.
- 41:39See, we know Nicole Kidman's Australian, not Kiwi because
- 41:42she was in that movie Australia.
- 41:44That's true.
- 41:46But so was Hugh Jackman.
- 41:47Is he Australian?
- 41:48You know, I've heard rumor.
- 41:50I also heard rumor he enjoys song and dance.
- 41:52Alright guys, now we play the game.
- 41:55Australian or Kiwi?
- 41:59Eric Bana is Australian.
- 42:01I'm just leaving and he's a car guy.
- 42:02Just leaving it out there.
- 42:03Carl Urban Kiwi.
- 42:05I dunno.
- 42:06Keith Urban.
- 42:11Anyway, so we're done with that game.
- 42:13So where are we?
- 42:14Yeah, so, uh, so that was embarrassing.
- 42:16Oh, I thought she was a stripper.
- 42:21Yeah.
- 42:21So yeah, Roddy was involved in that crash too.
- 42:23So they're both in wheelchairs and they're, uh, going to see
- 42:26their neurosurgeon and of course.
- 42:28As anyone would do in a hospital pushing wheelchairs side by side down the hallway.
- 42:33So absolutely no way nobody can pass.
- 42:35But God damnit, we can race one another.
- 42:38Oh wait, races aside from you two, Steve, Izzy, the rest of us here,
- 42:44when we're like 75 years old in the same hospital together, that scene
- 42:48is what we're going to be doing.
- 42:49So this is just real life foreshadowed right here.
- 42:52I'm just, oh, you don't think Steve and I are gonna be racing?
- 42:56I was gonna say, I've already done this and I'm not 75 years old.
- 43:01See, it's more like if I'm an orderly standing in the hallway and I see you
- 43:03guys coming at me, you better protect your grills 'cause I'm diving at you.
- 43:08Yeah.
- 43:08I would say Steve's more judging the nurses who were pushing them side by side.
- 43:11Yeah, yeah.
- 43:12Like, no, no.
- 43:13Yeah.
- 43:13Like the, the orlie or whatever could have very easily diffused
- 43:17the situation by like, oh no, Mr.
- 43:19Cruz, you're back here.
- 43:20We're going single file so that you know, a hospital can operate around you too.
- 43:24Could you imagine though if they had hit that little break on the back?
- 43:27He would've done like an endo and like just Yeah.
- 43:29Flipped off the wheelchair.
- 43:31He, he gets another concussion going into the walk.
- 43:34His head pokes through into the ladies' bathroom.
- 43:36Oh, becomes porkies.
- 43:39Yeah.
- 43:40This, this turns into, uh, a goddamn teenage sex comedy for
- 43:43the last half of the movie while talking about brain trauma.
- 43:46So, yeah, they, uh, they race and, uh, you know, the doctors sitting there waiting
- 43:50as they're like, you know, like slapping each other, like trying to push each other
- 43:53away and like, all right, well we got the sponsors here, doc, what do you think?
- 43:58Can we clear 'em?
- 43:59Like, well, no, I can't clear them just yet, but, you know, we can
- 44:02reevaluate in a couple of weeks away.
- 44:04So then, uh, Senator Fred Thompson turns his chair around.
- 44:08I'd like to talk to you about re reverse mortgages
- 44:13instead.
- 44:14No, he talks about the, the Japanese inspection method or whatever, about
- 44:19lettuce being imported, but if you just wait long enough, it just rots away
- 44:22and you don't have to worry about it.
- 44:24And I'm like, cool.
- 44:25Anyw, who?
- 44:27But just so you guys know, he, they gave him the name Big John, which was a not
- 44:32so subtle hint at Big Bill France, you know, the head of NASCAR or whatever.
- 44:36That's who he was supposed to be in that particular instance there, if anybody
- 44:40was paying attention, and Eric, obviously I know who that is, but for the people
- 44:43who may not know their listening is Bill France, like the king of nascar.
- 44:48Is he the commissioner?
- 44:49He's the guy that invented nascar basically, that started, it
- 44:52invented driving in a circle.
- 44:55The, the sanctioning body.
- 44:56Nascar, the govern.
- 44:56Yeah.
- 44:57The governing body.
- 44:58Yeah.
- 44:58He puts the ass in NASCAR is what?
- 45:00Yeah.
- 45:00There you go.
- 45:01That's the simple answer, but all right.
- 45:04Big John.
- 45:05He's like.
- 45:06Well, you both gonna have dinner with me tonight together.
- 45:10You're gonna drive there together and, okay.
- 45:13This whole next scene where it's like, yes, yes.
- 45:16Oh, oh, they're, they're arguing over who's going to drive the car or whatever.
- 45:20I'm like, get a fucking taxi.
- 45:23Or Senator Thompson, do yourself a favor.
- 45:26Hire somebody to drive them.
- 45:28Hell, they can be drinking shine in the back of a trailer.
- 45:31Probably not best for their concussions or whatever, but, you know, no, get
- 45:35'em there on time, on your own terms.
- 45:37This is like dodgeball.
- 45:39If you're a professional driver, you don't hire someone else to drive
- 45:42or you, that's like Ben Stiller, no one makes me bleed my own blood.
- 45:46Right.
- 45:46They are gonna drive themselves wherever they're going.
- 45:49Is, is that what that was about?
- 45:51Yes.
- 45:52He, he, he's a professional bleeder, so nobody helps me bleed my own blood.
- 45:55Yeah.
- 45:56Steve, did you not get that?
- 45:58I must have missed the subtext.
- 45:59And also because we're honoring Robert Duvall and Harry, we do get
- 46:03the scene where he talks to the Lady Doctrine is like, ma'am, I would
- 46:07like to apologize for, uh, my friend, uh, putting your hand on his shaft.
- 46:12That was purely, purely my fault because you see, a couple days ago
- 46:18I reenacted a porn on the side of a highway for him, and he thought you
- 46:22were just a continuation of that.
- 46:25He just thought you were a hooker.
- 46:26But she's like, oh, good mate.
- 46:28Hey, have a veggie mike sandwich.
- 46:32I come from the good Lord.
- 46:35But anyway, uh, so, so cool.
- 46:39I entertain the fuck outta myself.
- 46:41Oh, then we cut to her like going to her car in a parking lot, BMW three series.
- 46:46You know, like any woman feels safe, right?
- 46:49Mm-hmm.
- 46:49Right.
- 46:49Tanya, is he?
- 46:50Yeah.
- 46:51Yeah.
- 46:52Well, I mean, as a not very attractive woman, I don't have this problem.
- 46:56Oh, you don't have Tom Cruise randomly running up to you while you're
- 46:58trying to get in your car and being like, Hey, I'd like to apologize for
- 47:01having you grab my shaft earlier.
- 47:03It was a misunderstanding.
- 47:05Oh, no, you, your dad told me about it or whatever.
- 47:08No big whoop No, no.
- 47:09I'm sorry, Mr. Cruise.
- 47:10I'm not interested in Scientology.
- 47:12Have a time.
- 47:12Yeah, yeah.
- 47:16As he was like, just, just tell him you're gay.
- 47:18Like, but no, he, he stalks her for a little bit and she just like, no,
- 47:21let me, let me take it in there.
- 47:23Let me, uh, let me let take it to a race.
- 47:25Please, please, please.
- 47:25Pretty please.
- 47:26I don't know.
- 47:27Cruz and Rowdy, they're on their way and they're like, all right,
- 47:30we've reached an agreement.
- 47:31You're not driving the car and I'm not driving the car.
- 47:34Blah, blah, blah.
- 47:36I know how we can settle this.
- 47:38Ah-huh.
- 47:38We're gonna rent some cars and apparently race them to dinner.
- 47:41Yes.
- 47:42Mm-hmm.
- 47:42Trading pain along the way because, because we're manly men.
- 47:45I, because it's awesome.
- 47:47It's one of the classic scenes of this movie.
- 47:50It's amazing.
- 47:51And they opted the insurance on the rental cars, so it's okay.
- 47:53Yeah, it's fine.
- 47:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:54They're fine.
- 47:55Yeah.
- 47:55Yeah.
- 47:55They, they, they signed it Big John, so he's, he's got a
- 47:59surprise for him later that week.
- 48:01You know, just think, we talk about other movies where scenes could be
- 48:04deleted from the movie and it would make absolutely no difference to the movie.
- 48:08If you remove this part of the movie, it all falls apart.
- 48:11It's a house of cards.
- 48:12Like you have to have this scene, kind of like the ice cream scene earlier.
- 48:16This is Days of Thunder right here.
- 48:18But this race between these two guys randomly on public roads, better
- 48:24or worse than Jeff Bridges and James Woods in against all odds.
- 48:28Ooh, yeah.
- 48:31And against all odds, they didn't damage the cars, but
- 48:33there was that pucker moment.
- 48:34Exactly.
- 48:34That's why it's better.
- 48:35No, yeah.
- 48:36This is better.
- 48:37No, no, no, no.
- 48:38And we had this conversation a while ago.
- 48:40We were both right, because I think I said it was a race between two Luminas
- 48:44and you said, no, it was two Tauruses, but it was Illumina and the Taurus.
- 48:47And the Taurus.
- 48:48Oh, Ford versus Chevy.
- 48:50Oh.
- 48:50Guess what?
- 48:51We don't care if these two cars hit each other much.
- 48:54We care if the portion, the And the Ferrari.
- 48:57Ferrari, the Ferrari RA hit each other.
- 48:59But the epic thing about that scene is when they're coming across the bridge
- 49:02and the semi's coming at them, the car on the left goes up onto the curb.
- 49:05Yes, yes.
- 49:06Pull the tire out.
- 49:07Oh yeah.
- 49:08How did it not blow the tire out?
- 49:10Hollywood, baby Hollywood.
- 49:11Yeah.
- 49:11Reinforced it took four takes.
- 49:14And six Tori.
- 49:15Yeah, exactly.
- 49:17A whole lot of Illuminati or whatever the plural of Illumina is.
- 49:20Well, we didn't see the ramp that was there.
- 49:23There's that too.
- 49:24Yes.
- 49:24From the backward shot.
- 49:27And then the turbo kicked in B six.
- 49:31They finally show up to dinner late.
- 49:32And I'm like, weren't you fuckers racing?
- 49:34Should you be there early?
- 49:35They took that much time arguing.
- 49:38They, they just kept going in circles Also, Steve, what was the
- 49:40last time you got out of a car rental place In under an hour.
- 49:42That's true.
- 49:43What else?
- 49:44And they did the scenic route up the beach.
- 49:45Yes.
- 49:46Oh yeah.
- 49:46Yeah.
- 49:47They went to race the, the Mulholland Drive or whatever, like in, uh.
- 49:50King of the mountain.
- 49:51That's what it was.
- 49:52Yes, exactly.
- 49:52Exactly.
- 49:53He ran into Dennis Hopper, but that's all a deleted scene.
- 49:55So thinking the, the beach scene may have possibly been kind of like an homage.
- 50:00'cause Daytona originally did go out onto the beach.
- 50:03That is correct.
- 50:04The original Daytona wasn't on the beach, so I didn't Not that is correct.
- 50:08Homage to that as a thing.
- 50:09Yes.
- 50:09But it doesn't now because safety, NASCAR is pussies.
- 50:13Okay.
- 50:13Safety.
- 50:14NASCAR is pussy.
- 50:17Yeah.
- 50:17There's gotta be more, uh.
- 50:19More, uh, water hazards and uh, sand traps and stuff in NASCAR racing.
- 50:23I agree.
- 50:24You have this confused with golf.
- 50:25I'm just saying I haven't seen anybody jump through a ring of fire in years.
- 50:30Yeah.
- 50:30Vegas, there's gotta be people, the crosswalk, you know,
- 50:32like, oh wait, I'm sorry.
- 50:34That's F1, right?
- 50:35I dunno.
- 50:35Yeah, yeah, yeah, a hundred percent.
- 50:38Yeah.
- 50:38So, uh, yeah, they're a little late and they say because of car trouble and
- 50:41as I written down, you're both fired.
- 50:42Roll credits guys.
- 50:43What do we think?
- 50:44Babo?
- 50:46This is the guy guys, you, you gotta put your shit aside.
- 50:49But you know, blame it on the concussion.
- 50:51I will blame it on the concussion though.
- 50:52No, it's boys.
- 50:53We'll be boys.
- 50:54That's the message here.
- 50:56Well, no, I saw that in Star Trek once and I believe Card used it
- 51:00to get a kid off of a murder wrap.
- 51:02Yes, there's that too.
- 51:04Yes.
- 51:06I believe that's another record maneuver.
- 51:08But guys, we have one more boy to end.
- 51:09This Boys will be Boys Story.
- 51:11We're introduced to Russ Wheeler, played by Kerry Elz.
- 51:14There we're Elles, however you might say his name.
- 51:18Elway Carry Elway.
- 51:19Dr. Saw, I believe.
- 51:21There you go.
- 51:22That's who he is.
- 51:22Steve, the guy from Psych, the guy from like 10 episodes of psych.
- 51:27Yes.
- 51:27And nothing else.
- 51:27He's driving the Hardee's car out west.
- 51:30That's Carls Jr. Right?
- 51:31For those that don't know what Hardee's is.
- 51:33Yeah, it's Carls Jr. Yeah, he's just the new driver.
- 51:37It's gonna be taking over for you for a couple races.
- 51:39Cole, you know, while you're on the men from your possibly
- 51:42career ending injuries, wait, no.
- 51:44While you're stalking the doctor for her home address.
- 51:49Yeah.
- 51:49I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 51:51Starts calling like, oh yeah, she said I want, she wanted me to go to her office.
- 51:54Where was that again though?
- 51:55I got a concussion, I don't remember, but sends a lot of flowers
- 51:59and a side order of harassment.
- 52:03I do like during the scene though, that it ends with him asking her.
- 52:06How tall are you?
- 52:07Right.
- 52:10Are you always this tall?
- 52:11Do I need to walk around in eight inch platforms or something like, so awkward.
- 52:15But Mr. Cruz we're ready to begin recording.
- 52:17Yeah, exactly.
- 52:18Now allegedly, as legend has it, this is the point at which Tom Cruise and
- 52:23Nicole Kidman did start getting together.
- 52:25Like in real life, this is when they fell in love.
- 52:29That's what I had heard.
- 52:30That's what I recall as well.
- 52:32Yeah, that sounds about right.
- 52:33Yeah, because I know far and away was probably right.
- 52:35Yeah.
- 52:36Right after this.
- 52:37And I know that was when I think they got married or something, but yeah.
- 52:40Yeah, that makes sense.
- 52:40Yeah, exactly.
- 52:41So she turned 18 is what I heard now.
- 52:44Uh, well, because BMX mandates was like three, four years before,
- 52:48you know, that's why I say it.
- 52:50So yeah, we get a nice little date montage and of course, because
- 52:53Tom Cruise is cool as shit.
- 52:55He drives a Jeep, but guys, he's gotta get a physical exam.
- 52:58Gotta check him out, make sure he is able to drive, or at least
- 53:01start practicing and stuff.
- 53:02Again, getting behind the wheel.
- 53:04You might say, Dr. Kevin, of course, is the one that has to do the exam.
- 53:07He starts, uh, leaning in, going for the kiss, actually gets one in.
- 53:11And, uh, she no sells that shit.
- 53:13Like the undertaker, like, she's just like, yep.
- 53:15Anyway, you can pull your pants up, we're done here.
- 53:18And of course, you know, as he's like zipping up or whatever, he like goes
- 53:21walking out and he is like, I, I'm sorry, I, I don't know what that was all about.
- 53:24Uh, I'm sorry, blah, blah, blah.
- 53:26And of course then she's immediately all over him and they head to pound town guys.
- 53:30Boom, boom.
- 53:32And then this is where we cut to the scene of, uh, yeah, you know,
- 53:35them lying in bed on silk sheets.
- 53:37And, uh, Tom Cruise is explaining the concept of drafting using,
- 53:41uh, the sweet and low packets.
- 53:43And all I can think of is, man, I wish they were raw dogging on ancient ruins,
- 53:50but did anybody else wonder who the hell has sweet and low packets in bed?
- 53:53You're in a hotel, it didn't look like a hotel room.
- 53:56That even that doesn't make sense.
- 53:58Yeah.
- 53:58I mean, yeah, they got the coffee maker on the, the, the side table.
- 54:02Like, I don't know, man.
- 54:03Did they have coffee makers in the hotels in the nineties?
- 54:05It seems like a more modern thing to have that Steve, you are working in
- 54:08hotels then, according to your original hire date that I was hired several
- 54:13months later when I was 10 years old.
- 54:15But for anyone who doesn't know Steve's, a company has been
- 54:18convinced for the last 35 years.
- 54:2135 years that, uh, Steve was hired when he was 10.
- 54:25That's awesome.
- 54:25I hate to break their hearts, so I, I just haven't told him.
- 54:29We'll see how my pension goes, but he, he ha he has been enjoying his 30th
- 54:32anniversary, uh, Bose sound system.
- 54:37But talk about product placement.
- 54:39You are putting a sweet and low packet on Nicole Kidman's leg and making
- 54:43vroom, vroom sounds, and you're getting mansplained by a guy that 30 minutes ago
- 54:49said he doesn't know shit about cars and he doesn't know anything about racing,
- 54:53but this whole scene tracks, right.
- 54:55He's learned a lot.
- 54:56Yeah.
- 54:56Robert Deval is a good teacher, is the moral of the story.
- 54:59Is that what it is?
- 55:00Okay.
- 55:00Yeah.
- 55:01Yeah.
- 55:01And it tracks so well, they used it again seven years later in
- 55:04Armageddon with animal crackers.
- 55:06Yeah.
- 55:07God.
- 55:08Wait, that wasn't a Tony Scott movie, was it?
- 55:10Shit, who directed Ridley.
- 55:12Oh, that was Michael Bay.
- 55:13Michael Bay did.
- 55:14That's right.
- 55:14That's right.
- 55:15Hey Michael, would it be easier if we just taught astronauts how to.
- 55:19Shut the fuck up Ben.
- 55:21Greatest commentary ever made.
- 55:24So yeah, then uh, be because they're in post-Coital Bliss or whatever
- 55:28and uh, Nicole Kimmons trying to change conversation 'cause she
- 55:32doesn't give a fuck about racing.
- 55:33She says, so what do you wanna be when you grow up, mate?
- 55:36No answer.
- 55:37It's up there with later when she asked, what are you thinking about?
- 55:40And I'm like, oh god, damnit, cut to a motorcycle music love montage.
- 55:45Yeah.
- 55:46Nice little pound town scene.
- 55:47Like straight out of top gun again.
- 55:49Yep.
- 55:49I'm surprised we didn't hear Berlin come in.
- 55:51Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 55:56That's Kayla.
- 55:59We also find out during this that like, you know, Tom Cruise,
- 56:02he likes to be in control.
- 56:04And of course Dr. Kidman's like, show me, show me little daddy.
- 56:08And you know,
- 56:14so then we cut to, uh, them going to visit Rowdy at his farm 'cause uh, yep.
- 56:18He hasn't checked in with Lady Doctor.
- 56:20'cause my family don't go to hospitals less than they did or whatever, right?
- 56:25Yep.
- 56:25Or no.
- 56:26I, I, I, I guess at first that's right.
- 56:28We get the scene where Rowdy's like out on the lake or whatever, and he
- 56:31is talking with his wife about like, oh yeah, we're just gonna build the
- 56:34new mansion over there on that island.
- 56:36And, you know, we used the other one for scrap.
- 56:39He bought all this Airbnb or whatever, you know, he, he's
- 56:42been successful for many years.
- 56:43He's very rich.
- 56:44But then, uh, he gets seasick for the first time ever.
- 56:47And then so the, you know, I guess the wife called the doctor says, come
- 56:50checks him out and, you know, he's dizzy or whatever, and he like, closes his
- 56:53eyes, loses the equilibrium and falls.
- 56:55And so it's like.
- 56:57Well, um, I'm gonna recommend you talk to my boss.
- 57:00Uh, he is the head of neuroscience at the hospital.
- 57:02Since you obviously don't trust lady doctors.
- 57:04Mm-hmm.
- 57:05Did anybody else find it curious as to like, from watching it years ago up till
- 57:09now, how prior to this point, Cole and Rowdy, like hated each other's guts, but
- 57:13then he shows up at his place and they're cordial with each other, and because they
- 57:17became friends with the Lumina Taurus race, then they smiled at each other at
- 57:23the table and then they were friends.
- 57:25Yeah.
- 57:25When they lied about car trouble, uh, it's kind of a heated rivalry, you might say.
- 57:30Oh, hmm, these guys don't do game hockey players.
- 57:36Oh man, NASCAR fans watching heated rivalry.
- 57:38That's something I gotta watch.
- 57:40Hmm.
- 57:40That's the commentary trek you really want.
- 57:42That's the one I want.
- 57:43Like, oh, what do they do?
- 57:44Oh my God.
- 57:45Oh, oh my goodness.
- 57:48They're friends.
- 57:49High sticking.
- 57:50Anyway, guys we're watching ESPN highlights and, uh, Russ, he's
- 57:54winning some races and, uh, yeah, Dennis Quad's, like, man, with
- 57:58all these races you're winning.
- 57:59I'm able to get a second team go in here, but there might be a potential conflict
- 58:04down the road when, uh, when Cole, you know, Tom Cruise starts coming back in.
- 58:08Oh, well, no one cares.
- 58:09So we cut to Atlanta.
- 58:10Tom Cruise is back and he is driving, but he seems upset and distracted and
- 58:16we're seeing through his eyes and his vision's like a little blurry when he is
- 58:18checking his rear view mirrors and stuff.
- 58:20Oh man, he, he blew, blew an engine like intentionally just like, I
- 58:23don't know, dropping it and running it like 10,000 RPMs or whatever.
- 58:26And he grated the engine as they say.
- 58:29Yep.
- 58:29And Harry, you know Robert Duval, he's back in the movie again.
- 58:32He, uh, he knows what Tom Cruise's done 'cause he is got the little telltale
- 58:35uh, thing he pushes on that says, uh, what the RPMs were when the engine blew.
- 58:39And it's like, oh, yep, there we go.
- 58:41That'll do it.
- 58:42Yep.
- 58:42We come back to Rowdy 'cause he's being checked out by, uh, the head
- 58:45of neuroscience or whatever and uh, he's got a hemorrhage in his head.
- 58:49And, uh, you gotta get that shit checked out.
- 58:51That's it for him.
- 58:52We cut to the next race, so a week later or whatever.
- 58:55Right.
- 58:55That's like once a week in Wilkesboro.
- 58:58I know we get the line of like, drivers don't wanna be reminded
- 59:00of their mortality or whatever.
- 59:02Like I think Harry's talking to the lady doctor or whatever.
- 59:04Oh yeah.
- 59:05Yeah.
- 59:05Like that's why nobody will come see you during the race.
- 59:08Russ, he blocks Tom Cruise in the pit or whatever by doing a shit parking job.
- 59:13Mm-hmm.
- 59:13Which I think today would get him a, a lap fine or something like
- 59:16that, like a penalty or whatever.
- 59:18Definitely something Tom Cruise ends up like running into the wall
- 59:22or whatever, trying to pass him or be, be, be aggressive or whatever.
- 59:26And Russ wins.
- 59:27Yay.
- 59:28And NASCAR does nothing.
- 59:30Different times Steve.
- 59:31It was different times back then.
- 59:33You get away with more.
- 59:34They want the carnage, so do the fans, but we don't get that anymore other than just
- 59:38the parking that he did there in pit row.
- 59:40He bumped him and there's supposed to be no contact at
- 59:42all and gotta be below speed.
- 59:44Mm-hmm.
- 59:44Things that would not fly today.
- 59:46Oh, of course.
- 59:47Yeah.
- 59:47And Tom Cruise was going what, like 80 miles an hour or some shit there in pit
- 59:52row or whatever when like the guy pulls out and like, oh shit, that whole thing.
- 59:57And I'm like, you're driving like an asshole, dude.
- 59:59Like you know the rules.
- 1:00:00It's pit, it's pit stop.
- 1:00:02You know, Russ, he's doing his victory lap.
- 1:00:03And uh, Tom Cruise is like, I need a change of tires.
- 1:00:06And I'm like, but race is over dude.
- 1:00:08Just like thunderbolt.
- 1:00:10No.
- 1:00:10Change the tires.
- 1:00:11It's like Thunderbolt.
- 1:00:13Yeah.
- 1:00:14Pops in gear, fucking runs right into Russ's car.
- 1:00:18And I'm like, well, and you're never being RAs car again.
- 1:00:22You gotta at least wait until they're, you know, pouring the beer or the,
- 1:00:25the champagne or whatever on 'em.
- 1:00:26They just run up and knee him in the nuts and give them an upper cut.
- 1:00:30Like there you go.
- 1:00:31You know, winter cuts like the good old a yab, you can't attack him with
- 1:00:34a weapon since he did it the more safe route by attacking the car.
- 1:00:37'cause he had all his safety gear on.
- 1:00:39So it's safer that way, right?
- 1:00:40A thousand percent.
- 1:00:41Oh yeah.
- 1:00:42You know what?
- 1:00:42You won me over six months suspension.
- 1:00:44That's all.
- 1:00:47But of course Randy Quaid, he's like, oh, let's son of a bitch.
- 1:00:50Wreck both my cars.
- 1:00:51Fuck this guy.
- 1:00:52You are fired.
- 1:00:52No.
- 1:00:53We then cut to the Hilton Cole.
- 1:00:55He's, I don't know, taking lady doctor to the airport, do.dot for some reason.
- 1:00:59And she's like, you seen road yet?
- 1:01:02And of course he's like, no, no, I, I I haven't been out to see him.
- 1:01:05And then the world's worst taxi driver pulls up behind him and
- 1:01:08bumps the car for some reason.
- 1:01:11Yeah.
- 1:01:12And I'm like, what the fuck?
- 1:01:14And then, oh yeah, we just have to race.
- 1:01:16I have a race confrontation with this random ass taxi car.
- 1:01:20For some reason, this is Brad's favorite scene.
- 1:01:24He always likes to quote, let me outta the car, Cole.
- 1:01:26Let me outta the car.
- 1:01:27You know?
- 1:01:28Yeah.
- 1:01:28She gets out, she's super angry and you know, of course
- 1:01:31she's like, look, I get it.
- 1:01:32You're fucking scared.
- 1:01:34I'm not scared.
- 1:01:35Well, you're in denial.
- 1:01:36That's just as bad.
- 1:01:37Control is an illusion.
- 1:01:38You idiot.
- 1:01:40They just like stare for a bit.
- 1:01:42And, and it was this scene in particular where like the
- 1:01:44Aussie was really coming out.
- 1:01:47Oh, you bastard.
- 1:01:51Yeah.
- 1:01:51So then Tom Cruise decides, you know what, I'm gonna go see Rowdy.
- 1:01:54And of course he's at home playing pool.
- 1:01:58Apparently they have like eight kids running around the house and the wife's
- 1:02:00just at her wits end or whatever.
- 1:02:02But uh, and she was a new baby.
- 1:02:03Yeah, new baby.
- 1:02:05Probably another one on the way.
- 1:02:06You know how it is talking to Rowdy Rowdy's, like, you know,
- 1:02:09it's that lady Doctor's fault and he is like Uhhuh Really?
- 1:02:12Hey, um, what's this trophy here for?
- 1:02:15Say on there?
- 1:02:17Yeah, that's the Winston Cub.
- 1:02:18That, that's an easy one to forget though.
- 1:02:20That's not like a huge thing.
- 1:02:22Nah, not at all.
- 1:02:22And then this is where Tom Cruise like, pulls out the pool queue and he is like,
- 1:02:26well you can fix it there at the hospital.
- 1:02:27We can fix it here to knock you out.
- 1:02:29What's it going be?
- 1:02:31Yeah.
- 1:02:31They're like, I am not intimidated by Tom Cruise at all.
- 1:02:34Right.
- 1:02:35Like, even, even the slightest, I'm sorry.
- 1:02:38So we cut to the hospital, basically.
- 1:02:40They're like, yeah.
- 1:02:41So Rowdy's got a pretty bad little, uh, hemorrhage thing going, and uh, he
- 1:02:45may be able to come outta the hospital, but he's never gonna drive again.
- 1:02:48I'm like, oh no.
- 1:02:50Wow.
- 1:02:50Gimme that, uh, that special brain surgery from the head of neuroscience.
- 1:02:54That is right.
- 1:02:54And this rowdy's like, matter of fact, talk with Cole for a minute
- 1:02:57alone and this is where he is gonna like, you know, confess his
- 1:03:01love and say, I can't quit you.
- 1:03:03And you know, right.
- 1:03:04He pulls out, what are the other sugar pack?
- 1:03:06He pulls out a domino.
- 1:03:07Yeah.
- 1:03:08He's like, I wanna get sweet.
- 1:03:11I wanna, I wanna teach you a lesson in leverage.
- 1:03:16What do you know about the concept of a power bottom?
- 1:03:19Because you see, you take this packet.
- 1:03:22So, no, Ben said he is like, Cole, I want you to drive my car at Daytona.
- 1:03:28Uh, no.
- 1:03:30I got a bunch of unpaid land and I gotta take care of my family and my sponsors.
- 1:03:34They bet on me, not on my car.
- 1:03:36So I need you to be me for a while.
- 1:03:38It's gonna be best for my family and, and, you know, yeah.
- 1:03:40Pay the bills and everything.
- 1:03:42Kohl's just like.
- 1:03:43Before he answers, he just like kinda leaves.
- 1:03:46He never really gave him an answer.
- 1:03:47He is like, I sound like great.
- 1:03:49He is like, I, I I, uh, and then like walks past lady, doctor or whatever he is.
- 1:03:54Like, I, I gotta go talk to Harry.
- 1:03:56Meanwhile, I'm like thinking like Michael Rucker back in his,
- 1:03:59back in his, uh, hospital bed.
- 1:04:00Like, was that a fucking yes?
- 1:04:02Did I, did I pass out?
- 1:04:03What happened?
- 1:04:04Well, and it's also sort of like, did Randy Quaid fire him?
- 1:04:08We never really saw that.
- 1:04:09Like he was yelling at him about hitting the other car, but it's not
- 1:04:11like he canceled him as a driver.
- 1:04:13He had two cars.
- 1:04:14It could have been, there's like a whole bunch of politics here that it would
- 1:04:16just, we sort of skipped over and that's fine because we're leading to this
- 1:04:20point where he's filling in for Rowdy.
- 1:04:22I I think it's 'cause both, uh, Randy Quad's cars got wrecked.
- 1:04:27Tom Cruise doesn't even have a car to drive.
- 1:04:29But that's not true because Carrie Elways drove for Randy.
- 1:04:32Yeah.
- 1:04:32Carries was Dr. No, he was fired.
- 1:04:34Yeah.
- 1:04:34Yeah, he was fired.
- 1:04:35Fired.
- 1:04:36Right.
- 1:04:36Because he was the cause of it.
- 1:04:37So he, yeah.
- 1:04:37Okay.
- 1:04:37He and Robert Duvall were both fired.
- 1:04:39Yeah.
- 1:04:39Okay.
- 1:04:40That's why Duval's back on the farm 'cause he, I go talk to Harry.
- 1:04:43And yeah, of course Harry's like, what?
- 1:04:45Why won't you fix the car?
- 1:04:46He is like, because I knew you blew the engine.
- 1:04:49You're scared, but I can't do it without you, Harry.
- 1:04:53Okay, cool.
- 1:04:54And doesn't also, at that point when they're talking, he starts referring back
- 1:04:57to when it was his brother that died.
- 1:04:59Yeah.
- 1:05:00He's like, the wall didn't kill him.
- 1:05:01He was rambling at a million miles a minute, all the way up 20.
- 1:05:04He made contact with the wall and he's like, you're in the same state of mind.
- 1:05:07And he's like, I'm gonna have you kill yourself, man.
- 1:05:09You sound just like him.
- 1:05:11Yeah.
- 1:05:11Like he said earlier in the movie, like died of a heart attack, you
- 1:05:13know, John c Re's dad or whatever.
- 1:05:15Yeah.
- 1:05:15But then he is like, you know, there was a rumor there was a CO2 leak from, you know,
- 1:05:19trying to take out certain things to make it lighter or whatever, and like, no, no.
- 1:05:23It was nothing like that.
- 1:05:24This is bullshit.
- 1:05:25No investigation needed.
- 1:05:26No, no further questions, your Honor.
- 1:05:28Yeah, I dunno.
- 1:05:29They just have a little screaming match, you know, acting,
- 1:05:31but then he breaks it down.
- 1:05:32It's like, trust me Harry.
- 1:05:35I won't make a fool outta you.
- 1:05:37And then the soft music starts playing.
- 1:05:38Oh my God.
- 1:05:39And they head straight to Pound Town.
- 1:05:44No, but yeah, definitely the music that was coming on, it's like, what?
- 1:05:48What's about to happen?
- 1:05:49We went to the bum.
- 1:05:50They were rolling the head.
- 1:05:51Yeah.
- 1:05:52Domino Sugar Pack gets, man, I'm telling you.
- 1:05:54So guys, we then immediately cut to the morning of Daytona.
- 1:05:57Man, that was quick.
- 1:05:58I wrote down Mellow Yellow Time baby.
- 1:06:00Yeah, I like the old Mellow Yellow logo.
- 1:06:03I missed that.
- 1:06:04The new one's not that nice.
- 1:06:06All the logos were better in the eighties and nineties, man.
- 1:06:08But Harry, you know, he's, uh, he's talking, talking about the car again.
- 1:06:12Oh baby.
- 1:06:14Oh my God.
- 1:06:15I'm gonna get you so fast.
- 1:06:17Uh oh.
- 1:06:18Oh, what's that?
- 1:06:19Oh, you're leaking a little bit.
- 1:06:21Oh, that's to be expected.
- 1:06:25Overexcited.
- 1:06:26But then we, yeah, we got to the interviews with like the other drivers and
- 1:06:28they're all like, oh yeah, call Truckle.
- 1:06:30Yeah.
- 1:06:31Uh, I hope, I hope he's able to come back from his concussion, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:06:34You know, it's everybody's like, you know, trying to be like super
- 1:06:38nice about blah, blah, blah.
- 1:06:39Then they cut to Ross and he is like, I don't think he
- 1:06:41should be on the goddamn track.
- 1:06:42He's a god damn danger to everyone around him.
- 1:06:44And I hope he dies in a fiery wreck near me.
- 1:06:46I'm putting him in a wall.
- 1:06:47Yeah, that's right.
- 1:06:48I'm gonna, I'm gonna put him into a wall just like Dale Earnhardt.
- 1:06:51Oh, too soon.
- 1:06:51Nevermind.
- 1:06:52Scratch that.
- 1:06:54So then, uh, the doctor, you know, lady doctor, she goes to visit
- 1:06:57Cole and she says, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:59Ra Rowdy's totally doing better.
- 1:07:00Yeah, totally.
- 1:07:01Like, I don't know, just the way, like, he was asking like, how's rowdy?
- 1:07:04And she's like, he's doing better.
- 1:07:07Doing better.
- 1:07:07He's in God's hands now.
- 1:07:08I don't know.
- 1:07:10He's in a better place.
- 1:07:12She ran, they ran outta lines for her and Oh, that's right.
- 1:07:15And then this is when she asked, what are you thinking about?
- 1:07:18And I'm like, oh God, damnit, this is terrible, terrible writing at this point.
- 1:07:22And then he is like, I'm more afraid of being nothing than of getting hurt.
- 1:07:27And then we cut to Russ, and this is the first time I'm like
- 1:07:30realizing the movie Russ is Iceman.
- 1:07:32Like he's got the, the Val Kilmer blonde haircut going.
- 1:07:36He's got the, the aviator glasses on.
- 1:07:39I'm surprised he didn't make little chomping motions at Tom.
- 1:07:43He's also saucer Baron Cohen in Talladega Knight.
- 1:07:46Ricky Bibe.
- 1:07:48I will defeat you pretty much.
- 1:07:51And then I would sit by esp. You know Tom Cruise?
- 1:07:54He's got a new engine in the car.
- 1:07:55What?
- 1:07:56How, how'd you get that?
- 1:07:57We can't afford that.
- 1:07:57Like I, uh, I stole it says Harry, and then we glance over and Randy Quaid
- 1:08:03gives a little knowing nod or whatever, like, Aw, see they can still be friends,
- 1:08:08but ladies and gentlemen, start your engines 'cause we is about to race.
- 1:08:11Yeah.
- 1:08:13Daytona 500 times.
- 1:08:15It's time for the 500.
- 1:08:16That's right.
- 1:08:17Tom Cruise.
- 1:08:18He's gotta start last.
- 1:08:19Why?
- 1:08:19Because he is the shortest.
- 1:08:20No, I don't know.
- 1:08:21I, I guess because he's like a last minute substitution or whatever.
- 1:08:24He lined up by height.
- 1:08:26Yeah.
- 1:08:28Yeah, that Dale Earnhardt Jr's a tall drink of water, so we'll give him
- 1:08:31at least a top three pole position.
- 1:08:33Big wreck.
- 1:08:33Again, a lot of oil on the track, but you gotta watch it.
- 1:08:36Oh shit.
- 1:08:37And they're showing like the exact same smoky footage from
- 1:08:40the first wreck or whatever.
- 1:08:41And uh, Tom Cruise just gets all quiet and he is not talking to
- 1:08:45Harry and he drives on through it, and then we get triumphant music.
- 1:08:49Yay.
- 1:08:50That must have meant something.
- 1:08:51He, he's battling his fears and just gunning it through po
- 1:08:56potentially dangerous situations.
- 1:08:58All right.
- 1:08:58He is ready to go.
- 1:08:59So then we start rubbing and there's 23 laps left.
- 1:09:02And I'm like, fuck, that was a quick race.
- 1:09:04I can't be like that in real life, right?
- 1:09:06Yeah, right.
- 1:09:07Welcome to the Daytona 50.
- 1:09:09Yeah.
- 1:09:10Where did the other 200 and like 27 laps go, right?
- 1:09:14It's like night.
- 1:09:15Yeah, but uh, Rus, he's rubbing on coal and Oh, my accelerator stuck.
- 1:09:19I can't slow down.
- 1:09:21I'm gonna go fast.
- 1:09:22Mama bends out but then nope.
- 1:09:23Gets control.
- 1:09:24Pulls it back out and they're racing.
- 1:09:26Racing.
- 1:09:27Oh my accelerator's loose though.
- 1:09:28Thank God I almost died, but my transmission's fucked.
- 1:09:32Okay, well that sucks.
- 1:09:34Quick.
- 1:09:34We gotta get a pit stop.
- 1:09:35Alright, I gotta get out here in 45 seconds.
- 1:09:37I gotta get in front of that pace card.
- 1:09:39Come on, let's go.
- 1:09:39Let's go.
- 1:09:40Let's go.
- 1:09:40Yeah, they, they end up pushing 'em out.
- 1:09:42Like they got the whole crew team of, uh, what, five people or whatever.
- 1:09:46And then Randy Quats crew team starts pushing 'em out too.
- 1:09:48Oh my gosh.
- 1:09:49They're, they're working together again to get out in front of that pace car.
- 1:09:52Oh.
- 1:09:53So he is in like ninth place with eight laps left.
- 1:09:56And I'm like, well, okay, I think he's done then.
- 1:09:58Right.
- 1:09:58Good job guys.
- 1:09:59Maybe settle for a top five.
- 1:10:01Finish, get that purse.
- 1:10:02And uh, you know, we, he helped, uh, rowdy pay off his bills, roll credits.
- 1:10:07No, he's gonna draft Russ, you know, fall behind, like sweet low packet.
- 1:10:11Mm-hmm.
- 1:10:11Sweet.
- 1:10:11And tighten behind.
- 1:10:13And, uh, Russ says None of my watch bitch and puts him in the wall a couple times.
- 1:10:18And then it's the last lap.
- 1:10:19And I'm like, and that's the last lap.
- 1:10:22And I'm like, well, that was quick.
- 1:10:23And they're drafting in, he fakes high.
- 1:10:25And of course Russ is like, well, he's going high obviously, but no.
- 1:10:28Then he cuts in low.
- 1:10:29Oh my God.
- 1:10:30He got the inside track and he gets the win.
- 1:10:38I literally wrote down, listen to that top gun music as he wins the 500.
- 1:10:42That's right.
- 1:10:42Yeah.
- 1:10:43He's the best around everybody.
- 1:10:47Down.
- 1:10:47The body's all around.
- 1:10:49Yeah.
- 1:10:49There's nice big pit celebration and uh, and, and Russ comes over and says, you
- 1:10:54could be my wing man anytime, Maverick.
- 1:10:57And.
- 1:11:00The lady doctor stayed to watch from the stands and he sees Harry
- 1:11:04and they have a chat with tears in their eyes who says, there's
- 1:11:08nothing you can't do in a race car.
- 1:11:10Well, let's get our ass to victory Lane a ratio ass ha.
- 1:11:16And they run off freeze frame roll credits.
- 1:11:18Guys, we've completed almost an entire week of Thunder.
- 1:11:22Yes, yes we have.
- 1:11:24So I guess, uh, would you guys recommend this movie?
- 1:11:27Hell yeah.
- 1:11:28Oh yeah, of course.
- 1:11:29The classic.
- 1:11:30Yeah.
- 1:11:31Would you guys recommend this movie, babe?
- 1:11:33Would you recommend this movie?
- 1:11:34You know what?
- 1:11:35Yeah.
- 1:11:35This is one of those movies you have to watch so that other things become
- 1:11:38funnier when they make fun of it.
- 1:11:40This walk.
- 1:11:40So Talladega Nights could run Exactly This walk.
- 1:11:44So Driven could run.
- 1:11:45I dunno, I'm gonna be contradictory here.
- 1:11:48This is probably the worst movie we've seen.
- 1:11:50What?
- 1:11:51What?
- 1:11:51Worse than Senior Moment?
- 1:11:53Worse than, uh oh.
- 1:11:55I, I'm sorry.
- 1:11:56I was just trying to compare this to the Stunt Man or whatever.
- 1:12:00Obviously the worst movie we've ever seen.
- 1:12:03Can't believe you guys keep bringing that up.
- 1:12:05The movie was great.
- 1:12:05You're the one that brought it up.
- 1:12:06This time I wasn't even gonna go there because this is probably the
- 1:12:09best movie we've ever watched By far.
- 1:12:12What Better than the Fall Guy?
- 1:12:14Come on.
- 1:12:14Yes, dude.
- 1:12:16I was about to say that this might be the first time we all have consensus
- 1:12:19that this movie is awesome and then you had to go throw a wrench in the
- 1:12:22gears talking about the worst movie.
- 1:12:24This is a classic look.
- 1:12:26It's no driven, but it's okay as far as racing movies go.
- 1:12:29'cause the Fall Guy isn't really Racing R Movie.
- 1:12:34It's still a very good movie.
- 1:12:35Yeah.
- 1:12:35But as far as like really racing movies, like yes this is the Bar,
- 1:12:40but this is No Against All Odds.
- 1:12:42The only racing movie that might be better than this.
- 1:12:46But you have to be able to stomach it because it's 10 times longer.
- 1:12:50Is Steve McQueen's Lama?
- 1:12:52That is a long movie.
- 1:12:53It is ridiculously long and there has very little dialogue in it,
- 1:12:56which is awesome into itself.
- 1:12:59So as racing movies go to Tonya's point, this one is like the pinnacle.
- 1:13:03It's right up there.
- 1:13:04And the most realistic too.
- 1:13:06That's just it.
- 1:13:07You can't bitch about the racing scenes in this that much.
- 1:13:10There's some stupid stuff like we talked about when they're three wide
- 1:13:13and whatever, but for the most part you're like, they're going around in
- 1:13:16a circle, they're doing NASCAR things.
- 1:13:17Not to jump to what have I learned.
- 1:13:21One of the things I learned is that actually they really raced those cars
- 1:13:26in real NASCAR races for the footage.
- 1:13:29Yeah, I was gonna say, we have one movie.
- 1:13:30So a lot of the footage was actually real.
- 1:13:33Some good portion of it was not, but a lot of it was they would race as like
- 1:13:39unscored entries, like in in races.
- 1:13:42Just to get the footage.
- 1:13:43Well, on that note, do we wanna start getting into some
- 1:13:45fun facts about this movie?
- 1:13:46Oh, I've got another fun fact.
- 1:13:48Oh, do you need a commercial break first?
- 1:13:50Oh, well, since you mentioned it, we're gonna take quick commercial break.
- 1:13:54Oh.
- 1:13:54But when we come back, we have more beer.
- 1:13:57Fun facts.
- 1:13:58What and what we learned from Days of Thunder.
- 1:14:02Yay.

- 1:14:17of 'em seem to fit my needs.

- 1:15:55That's macho man.
- 1:15:55Yeah.
- 1:16:00Surprised have wasn't in this movie.
- 1:16:02Would anyone be interested in any fun facts about this movie?

- 1:16:18Ooh, ooh, ooh.
- 1:16:19I didn't do any fun facts this time, so I'm ready to be impressed.
- 1:16:22Your favorite scene in the whole movie?
- 1:16:24The ice cream scene.
- 1:16:25The.
- 1:16:26Actually based on it really happening.
- 1:16:29No.
- 1:16:30Are you for real?
- 1:16:32Apparently that incident actually occurred with Hendrick Motorsports in 1987.
- 1:16:38Wow.
- 1:16:39Because I was thinking when you just said that, that Bobby Raha was sponsored by
- 1:16:44Otter Pops and they had ice cream in the pit, but that was IndyCar and not nascar.
- 1:16:48So that's really interesting.
- 1:16:50Oh, apparently a lot of the like.
- 1:16:52A lot of, all the people's interactions are mirrored off
- 1:16:56relationships that actually occurred in NASCAR rivalries and whatnot.
- 1:17:01See, Steve, we've just elevated this movie to, based on a true story,
- 1:17:08based on several true stories.
- 1:17:09Yes.
- 1:17:10Days of thunder loosely.
- 1:17:12Okay, so, so if that's the case, then Disney's Pixar's Cars is the
- 1:17:16exact same thing because a lot of those scenes are taken, so is Cars
- 1:17:20is based on true events as well.
- 1:17:23You gotta follow the family tree here.
- 1:17:25Stroker Ace Days of Thunder, Talladega Night.
- 1:17:27Disney's cars.
- 1:17:28That's the order of operations.
- 1:17:33Brad is in agreement.
- 1:17:34So funnily enough, the character that Cole Trickle is sort
- 1:17:39of, or the real life person.
- 1:17:40Cole Trickle character is loosely based off of apparently Cameo
- 1:17:45very briefly in stroke race.
- 1:17:47Oh, Jeff Gordon?
- 1:17:49No, he's not based off Jeff Gordon.
- 1:17:51He is based off a guy named Tim Richmond.
- 1:17:53Oh, okay.
- 1:17:54Who was kinda like a hothead came from nowhere.
- 1:17:56Guy, I guess.
- 1:17:57Dick Trickle.
- 1:17:59So the name was based off Dick Trickle?
- 1:18:01Yes.
- 1:18:02Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:03But it's like an amalgamation of a couple different people.
- 1:18:06Interesting.
- 1:18:07Thanks.
- 1:18:08Based on True Story.
- 1:18:09Look at that.
- 1:18:10Alright guys, well Rotten Tomatoes.
- 1:18:12What do we think the critics thought of?
- 1:18:15Days of Thunder.
- 1:18:16The critics.
- 1:18:17Critics.
- 1:18:19This was critics back in 1990, right?
- 1:18:22Sure.
- 1:18:23Or they retic or it, it's rotten tomato.
- 1:18:25So some from nineties and some since then, but yeah, it's probably
- 1:18:30somewhere near 50%, but under 50%.
- 1:18:3247 go 50.
- 1:18:34'cause Brad said 47.
- 1:18:36What else have we got?
- 1:18:37I'm gonna go with Izzy's 69 because of the sweet milk.
- 1:18:42I'm thinking like it's gotta be around like 65, 60 6%.
- 1:18:45Yeah, I think so.
- 1:18:46If I recall commercials on TV for back then they were saying
- 1:18:49it was critically acclaimed.
- 1:18:50They made amusement park rides out of days of thunder.
- 1:18:54Are you kidding me?
- 1:18:55Come on Izzy.
- 1:18:56What do you think?
- 1:18:57I'm gonna go with 82.
- 1:18:59Ooh.
- 1:19:00Ooh.
- 1:19:00That's probably the person vote.
- 1:19:02Brad is closest.
- 1:19:0338% with the critic should have gone with my 17, but nobody
- 1:19:08gives a fuck about the critics.
- 1:19:09What about that audience score?
- 1:19:10108% Bob?
- 1:19:1378. 78. It's above 70, probably close to 80.
- 1:19:17So she's 78 as well.
- 1:19:19I'll go with 80.
- 1:19:20I'm going 79.
- 1:19:22I'm gonna go 87.
- 1:19:23Is he?
- 1:19:24I'm gonna go with a little six pound eight ounce baby.
- 1:19:26Jesus.
- 1:19:28Is that a 68?
- 1:19:29Six six?
- 1:19:33Well, audience score is 60%.
- 1:19:36Oh.
- 1:19:36Barely fresh.
- 1:19:38Barely budget was $60 million.
- 1:19:41Any guesses on the worldwide gross days of Thunder Two never happened.
- 1:19:45It's called Tal Dega Knights, which allegedly might be in the
- 1:19:49works for the last two years, but I don't know if that's true.
- 1:19:53What it took forever for the second, uh, top gun to be made.
- 1:19:55So, yeah, that's true.
- 1:19:57Yeah.
- 1:19:58Baseball two's coming out so.
- 1:20:01Cocktail too.
- 1:20:02The problem is they can't get Dr. Lewicki back for Days of Thunder too.
- 1:20:08Oh no.
- 1:20:08Where are we gonna find a gorgeous Australian model to be a doctor?
- 1:20:13Just get Margot Robbie, Margot Robbie's calling.
- 1:20:16Hello?
- 1:20:17I mean, considering all the swag, the posters, the amusement park rides,
- 1:20:22all the stuff around Days of Thunder.
- 1:20:25I mean, 60 million is what it costs.
- 1:20:26Mm-hmm.
- 1:20:27Worldwide gross.
- 1:20:28After all this, it's gotta be a quadrillion like, I mean, there's, it's
- 1:20:32all the merch fall in for the million.
- 1:20:34No, but I, I think he's just asking box Office gross.
- 1:20:37Yeah.
- 1:20:37Yeah.
- 1:20:38Then it's a half a quadrillion, like it's a lot.
- 1:20:42We'll just say a billion since, uh, no, I'm gonna say.
- 1:20:46200. Wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:20:48It's in that period where Days of Thunder and Batman and Terminator were
- 1:20:53all sort of like jockeying for position.
- 1:20:55So it's gotta be like 120 million or a hundred.
- 1:20:58It's in the a hundred million range.
- 1:21:01Sir, you already said a quadrillion.
- 1:21:03So, uh, your, your phone's been put in with your careful calculations there.
- 1:21:08Thank you for helping the others with their vote.
- 1:21:10Yes.
- 1:21:12Anybody else?
- 1:21:13$27 and a six pack.
- 1:21:15I refrain from voting as I know the answer.
- 1:21:18I would say they did well and it'd be like two 50 mil range.
- 1:21:21Brad is closest.
- 1:21:221 57 0.9 worldwide, according to what I saw.
- 1:21:26Nice.
- 1:21:26More than double.
- 1:21:28Yeah, more than double, but, you know.
- 1:21:29Mm. Some reason I guess.
- 1:21:31'cause at that time it was, it was one of those things that was
- 1:21:34out there everywhere, if I recall.
- 1:21:36'cause especially the Hardee's deal, because Yes.
- 1:21:38Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:38I got a couple minutes ago to look for it 'cause I can't find it.
- 1:21:41I know I have it still.
- 1:21:42Back in the day, you could get in the Happy Meals with Hardee's.
- 1:21:44They had the little like matchbox cars of the various ones.
- 1:21:47The Meow Yellow one.
- 1:21:48Yeah, the super one, the Hardee's one.
- 1:21:50And I still have the Hardee's one somewhere.
- 1:21:52I thought I had it in the box in here, in the closet, but it's the wrong box.
- 1:21:55It was marketed very well.
- 1:21:57Yes.
- 1:21:57You got Russ Wheeler's Matchbox.
- 1:22:00You got the Loser car.
- 1:22:01I had all three of 'em.
- 1:22:02I won a couple races.
- 1:22:03It didn't get played with much, so that's probably why it's still exists.
- 1:22:06I can't find it.
- 1:22:07He did get, it's like, whatever.
- 1:22:09Nice.
- 1:22:09I seem to remember this.
- 1:22:10I think it was Pizza Hut, like when you would buy a pizza,
- 1:22:13you could get a VHS tape.
- 1:22:15I wanna say it was like Days of Thunder Land before Time
- 1:22:19Bill and Ted's bogus journey.
- 1:22:21Oh.
- 1:22:22Like, like it was that timeframe.
- 1:22:23But like I, right.
- 1:22:24I think Days of Thunder was one of those movies where it's like you buy
- 1:22:27a pizza or two when you get a free movie the same time of like do the
- 1:22:31reading and you got a free pan pizza.
- 1:22:33Oh, yeah, too.
- 1:22:34Exactly.
- 1:22:35Yeah.
- 1:22:35Oh, dances with Wolves is one of 'em.
- 1:22:37Yeah.
- 1:22:38Tonka.
- 1:22:38Tonka.
- 1:22:39We never did like Pizza Hut or any of that.
- 1:22:42Mm-hmm.
- 1:22:43And yeah, that's how we got, we got Lamb before time and Perfect.
- 1:22:46Yeah.
- 1:22:46That's.
- 1:22:48Dances with wolves normally.
- 1:22:49Normally my dad would go to Costco 'cause back in the day guys, Costco
- 1:22:53was only for people with a business license and my, so my dad would use
- 1:22:57his business license and they would get the VHS's two weeks before release.
- 1:23:02Oh wow.
- 1:23:03And they would be like 7 99.
- 1:23:06Wow.
- 1:23:06Nice.
- 1:23:07Which, you know, was like three weeks worth of wages in our house.
- 1:23:10Yeah, right.
- 1:23:11So out west, because you guys originally in California, like at Magic Mountain
- 1:23:16and stuff, did they have the days of Thunder ride like we did at Kings
- 1:23:19Dominion and even Kings Island in Ohio.
- 1:23:21It's the same thing.
- 1:23:22They had the days of Thunder ride.
- 1:23:23So did they have it out west as well?
- 1:23:25I've never been to Magic Mountain 'cause I was down south.
- 1:23:28Steve grew up in Utah, so I don't know.
- 1:23:29Oh, lagoon have it?
- 1:23:30No, no.
- 1:23:31Well yeah, but I mean, lagoon doesn't have branded stuff like that.
- 1:23:34So Do you guys know what it was?
- 1:23:36I think like maybe, uh, shit, what's the one in San Jose?
- 1:23:40I'm blanking on it.
- 1:23:41Oh, great America.
- 1:23:42Great America.
- 1:23:43I think Great America had it for a while.
- 1:23:45So what was interesting about that is, you know, all the hype around the
- 1:23:48Star Wars ones where you'd get into little shuttle craft and they would fly
- 1:23:51you around, you know, the Death Star.
- 1:23:53Well, the Days of Thunder Ride was before that, and you got in like a eight
- 1:23:57person thing and you replayed part of the race and you got all the effects
- 1:24:02and the stuff, and you go through the smoke just like Cold Trickle did.
- 1:24:05And it's the Days of Thunder Ride.
- 1:24:06And then there was a roller coaster later.
- 1:24:08It was like an indoor roller coaster or whatever, but the very
- 1:24:10first thing was like this whole movie experience type of deal.
- 1:24:13So I thought that was kind of cool.
- 1:24:14Again, a lot of hype around this movie for a very long time.
- 1:24:18Like it had a lasting effect.
- 1:24:20Nice.
- 1:24:21Yeah.
- 1:24:21Being like a race car simulator even kind of thing.
- 1:24:23Like I, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:24Oh, there were tons of our game games.
- 1:24:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:24:27Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:28Yeah.
- 1:24:28Mr. Toad's Wild.
- 1:24:29Bright is famous for a reason.
- 1:24:30Exactly.
- 1:24:31An ET on those bicycles, man.
- 1:24:33Yeah, the guys, the movie was conceived.
- 1:24:37By Tom Cruise when he and Paul Newman were allowed to test one
- 1:24:41of Rick Hendrick's race cars.
- 1:24:43Tom's first lap was in excess of 180 miles per hour.
- 1:24:46Oh shits.
- 1:24:48He gets the riding credit.
- 1:24:49I guess that was fast for him 'cause that Dotson he was driving
- 1:24:53for Paul Newman was a dud.
- 1:24:55Oh man.
- 1:24:55And especially being four foot eight or whatever he is that
- 1:24:58like, just, just, that'd be like going 300 miles an hour to him.
- 1:25:02Yeah.
- 1:25:03I'll have to send you guys the videos.
- 1:25:04He raced at one of the tracks closest to us.
- 1:25:06You can go to their, like dining hall.
- 1:25:08They still have pictures of Tom Cruise on the wall when he raced there, like
- 1:25:12in the eighties with Paul Newman.
- 1:25:13It's crazy.
- 1:25:14Yeah.
- 1:25:15Nice.
- 1:25:16I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:25:16I love that.
- 1:25:17I love when they have like the pictures on the walls of celebrities
- 1:25:20who haven't been in in 40 years.
- 1:25:22Yep.
- 1:25:22Yeah.
- 1:25:22Like, I'm like, that means you're legit.
- 1:25:25And, uh, production began without a finished script.
- 1:25:28What?
- 1:25:28Come on.
- 1:25:28Tom.
- 1:25:29Scenes were often written the day of filming.
- 1:25:31During one driving sequence.
- 1:25:32Tom Cruise actually had to read his off of cue cards attached to the windshield.
- 1:25:36And of course that resulted in a minor car accident.
- 1:25:39For subsequent driving sequences, Cruz was fitted with a special earpiece
- 1:25:42so those lines could be fed to him.
- 1:25:44What?
- 1:25:45Those lines weren't that difficult.
- 1:25:47Yeah.
- 1:25:50Well, wait, do you want me to turn?
- 1:25:51Harry left?
- 1:25:53I need to pit.
- 1:25:54That explains how the sugar pack gets wound up in the bed because
- 1:25:57they were over at the break table in between scenes in the bed.
- 1:26:01Real quick.
- 1:26:01Is he okay?
- 1:26:02And you know, just happen to have, you know, two sweet low packets with him.
- 1:26:06Look, do you not believe that Nicole Kidman carries sweet and
- 1:26:10low packets in coups at all times?
- 1:26:12Oh my God.
- 1:26:14Are you next to the Vegemite?
- 1:26:18Oh, would you like it?
- 1:26:19Full Australian for beer?
- 1:26:22God.
- 1:26:22So, according to Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Tom Cruise had a meeting with Dale
- 1:26:26Earnhardt Sr. Prior to the production of the film, it was rumored that
- 1:26:30Earnhardt was offered the role of rowdy Burns, but he turned it down because
- 1:26:33he didn't wanna play the bad guy.
- 1:26:35That's so funny.
- 1:26:37The guys even better.
- 1:26:38Tom Cruise wanted Kurt Russell for the role of rowdy Burns.
- 1:26:43Yes.
- 1:26:44And it was through cruise that Russell became aware of Backdraft
- 1:26:48and did that instead back draft.
- 1:26:52Kurt Russell with a head injury, sign me up.
- 1:26:55Hell yeah.
- 1:26:56I mean, isn't that the Olympics commercials?
- 1:26:58He was in basically the same.
- 1:27:01No, no, no.
- 1:27:02That was him doing, uh, stuntman Mike.
- 1:27:04That's right.
- 1:27:05Yeah.
- 1:27:05Stuntman Mike.
- 1:27:06He's gonna get those guys killed.
- 1:27:08Unfortunately, you really gotta be on this side of the race car.
- 1:27:11That would've been awesome, Russell.
- 1:27:12Wow.
- 1:27:12Oh, and then Goldie Han has her cameos the wife with like eight kids running around.
- 1:27:16Yeah.
- 1:27:17Oh, I could see.
- 1:27:18That would've been good.
- 1:27:19That would've been good.
- 1:27:20He was an extra star that would easily put it over the fall guy
- 1:27:23for the best movie we've done.
- 1:27:24God, it's a little nod to Overboard or something.
- 1:27:27Anyway.
- 1:27:28Yeah.
- 1:27:28It also would've cost him a lot more to make it too.
- 1:27:30Hey, this movie gets two stars for Robert Duvall by himself.
- 1:27:34He gets two and one more, because this was the feature
- 1:27:37film debut of Margot Martindale
- 1:27:44who?
- 1:27:45BoJack Horseman.
- 1:27:46Margot Martindale.
- 1:27:48Look it up guys.
- 1:27:49She's an amazing character.
- 1:27:50Cocaine Bears, Margot Martindale.
- 1:27:52No, I don't want, I think she was on The Wire.
- 1:27:54I don't know.
- 1:27:55Oh, wait, who was she in this movie?
- 1:27:58She, so she plays Donna, is she the white?
- 1:28:02She was in one scene at the beginning.
- 1:28:04I think she wast the first person we actually see on screen.
- 1:28:06Yeah.
- 1:28:06I think when they were doing the, uh, the, when he was doing the practice
- 1:28:10lap in, uh, Rowdy's car, when we meet Tom Cruise for the first time, I think
- 1:28:13she's the one with the stopwatch that confirms that it was like a 31 second lap.
- 1:28:17Oh, wow.
- 1:28:18Like, like it was a very small role.
- 1:28:20Yeah.
- 1:28:21Blink.
- 1:28:21And you missed her.
- 1:28:22Yeah, but we're like, oh, Margaret Martindale.
- 1:28:25Okay.
- 1:28:25Yeah.
- 1:28:26I knew who that is.
- 1:28:27Not from Oh, her, from the things you mentioned.
- 1:28:29She's,
- 1:28:32yeah.
- 1:28:32She's in much more famous things than the ones we know her for.
- 1:28:35But Which character is she?
- 1:28:38Jack Horseman.
- 1:28:39She's in BoJack Horseman is one of the voices, right?
- 1:28:41Yeah.
- 1:28:41She's the voice of Margot Martindale.
- 1:28:43Yeah.
- 1:28:43She plays Margot Martindale.
- 1:28:44No.
- 1:28:44Who plays herself?
- 1:28:46I haven't watched it sometimes.
- 1:28:47Okay.
- 1:28:47It's eight episodes in six years.
- 1:28:49I mean, it's pretty spread out guys.
- 1:28:51It's a stretch.
- 1:28:54But guys, we've reached the most important part.
- 1:28:56Yes.
- 1:28:56Besides this being Margot Martindale's feature debut, what else did
- 1:28:59we learn from Days of Thunder?
- 1:29:02I wanna say, do you guys wanna hear me go first?
- 1:29:05Yes.
- 1:29:05As the co-host.
- 1:29:06Okay.
- 1:29:07I learned from this movie that Nicole Kidman does in fact keep sweet
- 1:29:11and low in her coups at all times.
- 1:29:13Yeah.
- 1:29:15We're never gonna let that go.
- 1:29:19I'm coming to the next one with sweet and low packets.
- 1:29:23I'm telling you, I'm gonna put 'em in the back.
- 1:29:25Sweeten up your half and half love.
- 1:29:27Oh, see those horrible down man.
- 1:29:28Dan, I'd learned to always carry sweet and low packets too bad.
- 1:29:31But if they're already there, then I don't, I guess I don't have to.
- 1:29:34I don't trust you.
- 1:29:35Sweet and low packets.
- 1:29:36No thanks Turkish.
- 1:29:37I'm sweet enough.
- 1:29:39Tanya.
- 1:29:40I sh shared two things I learned already, but I would say a third thing
- 1:29:44is I think the movie still holds up.
- 1:29:47I would agree.
- 1:29:48Obviously it's very condensed version of like NASCAR racing where it's like
- 1:29:52it boils down to like four laps instead of, you know, 250 or 200 or whatever.
- 1:29:57But I'll say what I learned, I don't know shit about cars, but at least watching
- 1:30:02this movie I can feel like, okay, yeah, I know a couple things, you know,
- 1:30:06drafting and, uh, you know how to draft.
- 1:30:09Yeah, how to drafting.
- 1:30:10Definitely.
- 1:30:11Uh, it's all about the tires and make sure the wear right.
- 1:30:15And if the weather's really hot, then you know, you gotta come in.
- 1:30:18I don't know.
- 1:30:18Shit.
- 1:30:19I'll add one more thing for the fact that I haven't watched it in quite a few years.
- 1:30:23I learned there's a lot of little one-liners and saying things that I
- 1:30:28say that have come from this movie.
- 1:30:30Yes.
- 1:30:30A hundred percent.
- 1:30:31Mm-hmm.
- 1:30:31A hundred percent.
- 1:30:32Yes.
- 1:30:32I agree.
- 1:30:33A monkey fucking a football.
- 1:30:34It was a lot of good cursing.
- 1:30:35I didn't realize that so much of, uh, your guys' nomenclature
- 1:30:39just came from this movie.
- 1:30:40Yes.
- 1:30:41Rubbing is racing.
- 1:30:42I said, there's a lot of good cursing in this movie.
- 1:30:45Fuck yeah, dude.
- 1:30:48Tee it like.
- 1:30:49Son of a bitch, like I, I think you could have made a drinking
- 1:30:52game with how many times son of a bitch was said in this movie.
- 1:30:57Thousand percent the anniversary that we'll do that.
- 1:30:59I, I learned two things.
- 1:31:01One, I learned that you can learn a lot about racing by watching ESPN.
- 1:31:06Yeah.
- 1:31:07The ocho, you'd be surprised at what you can learn on ESPN just by watching it.
- 1:31:12Well, now it's YouTube.
- 1:31:13And two, I learned something about your podcast here, and I, if you say that
- 1:31:19this movie is just okay, I've learned not to trust Steve and Izzy's Oh,
- 1:31:25opinion when it comes to good movies.
- 1:31:28Oh.
- 1:31:28'cause I've heard some of the stuff you all have said were excellent movies
- 1:31:31and I've seen them and I'm like, eh.
- 1:31:33So dude, I'm probably not gonna get invited back.
- 1:31:36So to all those that are listening, bye.
- 1:31:38I love you all.
- 1:31:39I'll talk to you all later.
- 1:31:40Thanks.
- 1:31:41Well, it's been nice knowing you, Brad.
- 1:31:42Enjoy watching Congo again.
- 1:31:44Savage.
- 1:31:46Brad Savage.
- 1:31:47Brutal.
- 1:31:48This sounds like somebody who did not in fact watch knockoff.
- 1:31:53No, did not watch Knockoff come in the street.
- 1:31:55But I watched the I I watched the Fall Guy and Fall Guy is
- 1:31:58definitely an excellent movie.
- 1:31:59So I learned.
- 1:32:01Steve's a really good liar because I think he secretly thinks this movie is awesome.
- 1:32:07And what he said before is complete and total horseshit.
- 1:32:11It's true, it's true.
- 1:32:12I do, I I, I enjoyed this movie.
- 1:32:14All right.
- 1:32:14All right.
- 1:32:14I wanted to hear you confess, because there's no way the beginning and end are
- 1:32:18obviously the best parts, but even the stuff in between, it's just a, a stupid
- 1:32:22fucking brain injury drama with Tom Cruise and Australian Amazon Nicole Kidman.
- 1:32:29I'm okay with that.
- 1:32:30Oh, good.
- 1:32:30I'm glad you, you have confessed your sins.
- 1:32:33All right.
- 1:32:33But now you know how I feel when like, oh, the Stuntman's the worst movie ever.
- 1:32:37Ah, it hurts.
- 1:32:40So what did I learn?
- 1:32:41I had a whole different, what did I learn when I came into this movie?
- 1:32:45And it, it just got reset at the beginning.
- 1:32:48It's something that Tanya said.
- 1:32:50I learned that Tom Cruise is quote, at least five foot seven,
- 1:32:56approximately approximately five seven.
- 1:32:59He's approximately my height.
- 1:33:02Give or take 15 inches, he'll take it, right?
- 1:33:08Well also I just wanna throw out there Mountain Mandan can
- 1:33:10confirm that I'm not exaggerating.
- 1:33:12Steve is legitimately six foot eight, about 200 centimeters
- 1:33:15for international viewers.
- 1:33:17So approximately somewhere between a third and a half.
- 1:33:22Like about twice to, uh, I don't know how to say it.
- 1:33:26About twice.
- 1:33:26I have no idea.
- 1:33:27Twice as tall as Tom Cruiser, I say, yes, three foot four Tom
- 1:33:31Cruise fits right in your pocket.
- 1:33:34Some say that metric system gets you every time, doesn't it?
- 1:33:38I say you're about twice as tall as the, uh, guys from a CDC.
- 1:33:40Right.
- 1:33:42You met them, right?
- 1:33:43I mean, they they're pretty short.
- 1:33:45Yeah.
- 1:33:45How, how big is the Yeah, that's, that's a last we though.
- 1:33:47Yeah.
- 1:33:49All right.
- 1:33:49Well, before we close out, Steve, let's talk about the next movie
- 1:33:53we wanna review with you guys.
- 1:33:54What, what have we got on the list still to cover?
- 1:33:56Ooh, ooh, Ooh.
- 1:33:57Ooh.
- 1:33:58Hmm man, I'm trying to think like a good car movie, racing movie.
- 1:34:02It's not a full length movie, but have you guys ever seen
- 1:34:04Susie, the little blue coop?
- 1:34:06The cars thing?
- 1:34:07It's like the precursor to cars.
- 1:34:09Like it's like from like the forties or fifties.
- 1:34:12It's a very, very old Disney S short.
- 1:34:15Oh yeah.
- 1:34:16And it's legitimately where they took the styling for cars.
- 1:34:18Like for cars.
- 1:34:20But it's only like 20 minutes long.
- 1:34:22Yeah, it's about Susie's little blue coop out.
- 1:34:24Like she leaves the the showroom and she is like the coolest car in the yard.
- 1:34:30And then like as she gets older, nobody wants her and she becomes a beater.
- 1:34:33She shenanigans and sue.
- 1:34:35How sad Guys, I'm looking up car movies and Bambi the reckoning popped up, so
- 1:34:40I assume that's gonna be our next one.
- 1:34:42I mean, Tanya still hasn't watched the Formula One movie, so that's on the table.
- 1:34:47Neither have we.
- 1:34:48Have you guys seen Driven a long time ago.
- 1:34:51Yeah.
- 1:34:52No, Steve, I got it.
- 1:34:54Our recommendation drive angry.
- 1:34:56Ooh, drive angry.
- 1:34:58There we go.
- 1:34:58Nicholas Cage.
- 1:35:00What about baby driver?
- 1:35:01What about need for speed?
- 1:35:02Oh, I've seen that.
- 1:35:04I actually never saw that.
- 1:35:05It was half terrible.
- 1:35:07Have you guys seen drive angry though?
- 1:35:092011? No, I've seen it.
- 1:35:10Nick Cage never, never heard of this.
- 1:35:13I saw it a long time ago.
- 1:35:14Nick Cage and Amber heard, oh, that's a recipe for crazy.
- 1:35:19And William Ner thrown into hell for his crimes.
- 1:35:22Brutal felon.
- 1:35:22John Milton escapes from the fiery pit after Cultus murder
- 1:35:26his daughter and take her baby.
- 1:35:28Instead of rescuing the child, John joins forces with a waitress
- 1:35:31who gives him her ex lovers fire.
- 1:35:34Red muscle car.
- 1:35:35Hi, jinx.
- 1:35:36And Sue.
- 1:35:36What about stroke race?
- 1:35:38That's on the list now you know what?
- 1:35:39Honestly, stroke race.
- 1:35:41I'm down with something like that.
- 1:35:42Little Dom Delo.
- 1:35:44Little bur.
- 1:35:45Have you guys done used cars?
- 1:35:47Is that good?
- 1:35:48We talked about I love that movie.
- 1:35:49Yeah.
- 1:35:49Not the one with Kurt Russell.
- 1:35:51Yeah.
- 1:35:52Yeah.
- 1:35:52Right in these Kurt Russell inherits a, uh, used car, uh,
- 1:35:56dealership in shenanigans, ensue.
- 1:35:58I like it.
- 1:35:59You talked about that one last time.
- 1:36:01There's also boobies.
- 1:36:04They, they literally drive the plot forward.
- 1:36:07Nice.
- 1:36:08Guys, we mentioned Lamont's earlier and thinking it was like
- 1:36:10the longest movie ever made.
- 1:36:12It's only an hour 45.
- 1:36:13It feels like the longest.
- 1:36:15It feels like it's only, yeah, it feels like two and a half hours.
- 1:36:16Easy, but yeah.
- 1:36:17Yeah.
- 1:36:18Anyway, that's a Robert EK film.
- 1:36:19Oh yeah.
- 1:36:20Yeah.
