- speaker-0: He is powerful. He is good. He is, you know, sufficient. He is I mean, like you just go on and on. If you know those things, then you're like, well, I know God. So because I know him, I can trust him with this very hard situation. speaker-1: I know you've got a free Bible study that ⁓ people can download. It's fantastic. I downloaded it ⁓ some time ago. It's been a couple of months, and it's called The Best Family Ever, which I love the title of that because the best family is the one you know, you hear the the family that prays together stays together. Well, the family that prays together stays together, the family that reads the Bible together stays together. And it is so important for us as families to be in God's word together. And so this is a free study that you have. And in there you talk about some specific things that I want to walk through today. And one of them is the purpose of Bible study. And so really when we get down to it, what is the purpose of studying the Bible and why should we teach our kids to do this? speaker-0: Yeah. So first above all, number one is so that we can know God. ⁓ and we have to know God. And a lot of times people will come and say, you know, I'm struggling with this thing and you know, I I can't trust, I don't know if I can trust the Lord. And the answer to that is always that's because you don't know him. Because if you knew him, you could trust him with that thing, whatever it is, how big however big it is, however heavy it is. The the key to trusting God is Knowing him and knowing him as deeply as possible, there's only one way to get that. And that's through his word. That's what he tells us is the only one way to get that. So the most important reason to study the Bible is so that you can know him better. So you know he's loving. You know he's good. You know he's all powerful. He can change a situation. You know, you know all of the things about him. speaker-1: But you have a pretty incredible testimony. And there's a reason why your ministry is called not consumed, because you're not saying this just like, well, if you go through hard times, just trust God. And the way you trust him is because you know him. You have been through some really difficult times. And so I don't want to park here too long, but just can you give us kind of a brief overview of what God has done in your life and how he has shown his faithfulness through some of the tough things that you've been through. speaker-0: So ⁓ when my oldest child was eight years old, I had four children. ⁓ one was a newborn, my husband left and ⁓ that was kind of the beginning of our storm of the you know we faced. And ⁓ I became a single mom ⁓ as in like got evicted from our house, had to go on food stamps, ⁓ trying to figure out how to make make it all work. ⁓ I had so many small kids, I couldn't even go back to work because the daycare was gonna cost me too much. Right. So, you know, and I I was in a box, a for sure box, and I had to figure out, you know, well, what do I need to do here? And very quickly the Lord showed me, you don't have to do anything, but trust me. You know, and and I remember very clearly thinking, and and we had we don't need that, we could park here for a long time, but I remember very clearly thinking, you know, I mean, I grew up in church. And you know, I have been through some things in life, none of which I would consider to be that hard now that I've been through the harder things, right? Yeah. ⁓ but the hard you know, you know, I have been through some things. And, you know, I had I'm literally three services a week from you know, childhood. I've been saved for many, many years. But I sat there and thought, I don't know how to trust God. I I have no idea. What does that look like practically? And I find that over the years, as I've talked to other single moms and people with lots and lots of other problems, because that is one of many that we all face, right? Yeah. ⁓ that is a big issue. We don't know how to trust God because people tell you to do it, but they don't really give you the tools to do it because there are no tools other than what I just said. We have to know him. Amen. And it's and it's coming into that place of figuring out, ⁓ he is powerful. He is good. He is, you know, sufficient. He is, I mean, like you just go on and on. If you know those things, then you're like, well, I know God. So because I know him, I can trust him with this very hard situation. Yeah. ⁓ which came into play even more so several years later when that baby, ⁓ who was, you know, just days old when his daddy left, got cancer. He got a brain tumor and ⁓ w at when he was six and ⁓ that was a a yet another time for me to figure out well what does it look like to trust God now. Yeah. And you know that's different. It's different, you know, when you're trusting him with health versus ⁓ your financial situation. It's different when you're trusting him with like ⁓ a situation with your children and and what they're facing and say, know, there's nothing in life that makes you feel more out of control and helpless because then your child is suffering and you can't change it. You know you can't do anything. ⁓ and so it's just a d a different season of learning and having to go back and say, okay, what do I know to be true about God? How how how who is he? And then and what what does the Bible tell me about him? What can I hold on to right now? And that is the key to knowing, you know, trusting him, knowing him. And that is the sole reason I believe. I mean, ⁓ we have two more to talk about, but to me it is the top thing because it's the thing we need the most. Right. You know, when when my children are struggling with like the consistency of getting into the Bible and you know, ⁓ because cause that's something we all struggle with, right? Sure. Sometimes it just life gets in the way and you just don't get in there and you know whatever. And ⁓ I'll usually let it go for a little while. And then they start to struggle with something. And I'm like, you know, ⁓ there's an answer to what you're struggling with. Yeah. You know how we find it, and then we have to go back and say, It's the word. That's where we get this, you know, and and I see that you're struggling with this. And in part it's because, you know, the other things have gotten in the way. And I mean, it's it happens. It happens to me. It happens to everyone. And so we realize, ⁓ wait, you know, I've been trusting myself. I've been trusting good circumstances. We love to trust our good circumstances. Right. You know, we think all these all these things in our lives, you know, we can trust these things. We can't trust those things. You know, I mean, I've I remember Once in the hospital, right after my son had his tumor ⁓ removed, I a friend of mine said, you know, I how do you like face the fact that your son might die? And I said, I just I I want to say this very genderly to you, but how do you face the fact that your son might die? Wow. She's like, What do you mean? And I said, It's just as likely. It's not different. It's just I know of this thing and it's a giant thing. It's a huge swimmer, it's a big deal, you know. You don't know what might happen tomorrow. You don't know what bus might, you know, be in the wrong place, what hurricane might wash your house away. Right. Let's talk about that. I mean, reality, right now. Like there's so many things that we don't know that we don't have control over. Right. And so when we, you know, we think, ⁓ we've got these good circumstances, so we're cool, but that's not true. Yeah. Like we cannot rest in those things. We can only rest in who God is. Right. And we can't rest in that if we don't know it. speaker-1: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by BJU Press Homeschool, CTC Math, and the Explorer Bible for Kids.
