- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi and everybody. I'm Dan Horde and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals boot podcast, the Going Down, Down, Down Down edition,
- 0:14Speaker 1: as we take an in depth look back at the
- 0:16Speaker 1: bengals eighth straight loss to begin the season, a twenty
- 0:19Speaker 1: four to ten defeat in London to the La Rams.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Coming up, you'll hear radio replays, locker room comments from
- 0:26Speaker 1: players and coaches, and Dave lapp them will join me
- 0:29Speaker 1: for postgame analysis. Plus, in this week's fun Facts Conversation,
- 0:33Speaker 1: we'll meet the person under the pads as I'll talk
- 0:37Speaker 1: to a wide receiver who seems to make a spectacular
- 0:40Speaker 1: catch every single week, Odd and Tate. All of that
- 0:44Speaker 1: is straight ahead. But first, here's a quick reminder that
- 0:46Speaker 1: you can have the latest edition of this podcast delivered
- 0:50Speaker 1: right to your phone, tablet, or computer by subscribing iTunes, Stitcher,
- 0:54Speaker 1: Google Play, Spotify, or pod Bean. It's the greatest thing
- 0:59Speaker 1: since flight attendants. I spend a lot of time on planes,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and I have a tremendous amount of respect for flight attendants,
- 1:07Speaker 1: especially after an eight hour flight in the middle of
- 1:10Speaker 1: the night back from London. While most of the passengers slept,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the flight attendants stayed awake, served a couple of meals,
- 1:18Speaker 1: brought the drink cart through the cabin several times, cleaned
- 1:21Speaker 1: up after everybody, and did it all with a smile.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So here's to all of the flight attendants who do
- 1:28Speaker 1: what they can to put the friendly in the friendly skies.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Now let's get to this week's game. In recent weeks,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Zach Taylor has faced abundant criticism over his heavy use
- 1:40Speaker 1: of eleven personnel. In case you're not familiar with the
- 1:43Speaker 1: universal numbering lingo and football, the first digit is for
- 1:47Speaker 1: the number of running backs on the field and the
- 1:49Speaker 1: second digit is for the number of tight ends. So
- 1:53Speaker 1: eleven personnel is one running back, one tight end, and
- 1:57Speaker 1: three wide receivers, and the Bengals have used that grouping
- 2:01Speaker 1: more than any other team in football this year. It
- 2:04Speaker 1: obviously hasn't been working very well, and on Sunday at
- 2:07Speaker 1: Wembley Stadium, the Bengals decided to mix things up. They
- 2:11Speaker 1: made frequent use of multiple tight ends and it had
- 2:15Speaker 1: two positive effects. Number One, Tyler Eifert was a big
- 2:20Speaker 1: weapon in the passing game. Dalton looks to throw his
- 2:22Speaker 1: passage medal cot near midfield by Tyler Eiffert and Tyler
- 2:27Speaker 1: Eifert makes it to the Rams forty two yard line
- 2:30Speaker 1: for a huge gain on third down and five and
- 2:34Speaker 1: an ihop first down. Eiffert finished with six catches for
- 2:37Speaker 1: seventy four yards, but that wasn't the biggest positive. Having
- 2:40Speaker 1: Eiffert and cj Uzamba on the field at the same
- 2:43Speaker 1: time brought the bengals anemic rushing attack to life. Bengals
- 2:48Speaker 1: come out with double tight ends, but Eiffort detaches and
- 2:51Speaker 1: goes out wide to the right. Here's a run up
- 2:53Speaker 1: the medal mix and breaking tackles as he sprints forward
- 2:56Speaker 1: between the hash marks for a first down gain. He
- 2:59Speaker 1: runs for eleven now to the thirty six and it's
- 3:02Speaker 1: an ihop first down. Man Old Man, David Long, Junior.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You are a junior because the senior mixing just ran
- 3:09Speaker 1: you over. Mixing ran for fifty three yards on ten
- 3:12Speaker 1: carries in the first half and for a quarter and
- 3:14Speaker 1: a half, the Bengals went toe to toe with the
- 3:17Speaker 1: high powered Rams. First and ten. At the Bengals thirty
- 3:20Speaker 1: one golf back to throw throws over the middle. It
- 3:23Speaker 1: is caught at the five yard line and Reynolds takes
- 3:26Speaker 1: it into the end zone for a Rams touchdown. That
- 3:29Speaker 1: Jared Golf touchdown pass gave the Rams a ten three
- 3:32Speaker 1: lead in the second quarter. The Bengals answered with a
- 3:35Speaker 1: seventy five yard drive to tie the game. Second and goal,
- 3:39Speaker 1: just short of the one yard line. Dalton is under center.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Everybody bunched in tight. Stanley Morgan goes in motion from
- 3:46Speaker 1: left to right. Now motions back to the left. They
- 3:48Speaker 1: fake up him. They throw the Mixing names, he catches it.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Touchdown Bengals as Dalton floats one to Mixing at the
- 3:57Speaker 1: goal line for a Bengals touchdown. Was career touchdown pass
- 4:01Speaker 1: number one ninety seven for the Red Rifle, pulling him
- 4:04Speaker 1: even with Ken Anderson for the Bengals all time franchise record.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But the tie score only lasted for one minute and
- 4:13Speaker 1: twenty one seconds. Cooper Cup goes in motion. They give
- 4:16Speaker 1: it to him. Now they pitch it back to Golf
- 4:18Speaker 1: for a flea. Flicker throws for Cup wide open. The
- 4:21Speaker 1: Bengals defender falls down. Cooper Cup sprinting down the far
- 4:25Speaker 1: sideline and he will take it to the house. Unreal
- 4:29Speaker 1: Rams touchdown. That's sixty five yard touchdown gave the Rams
- 4:32Speaker 1: a seventeen ten halftime lead. And get these first half
- 4:36Speaker 1: numbers for wide receiver Cooper Cup. He had five catches
- 4:40Speaker 1: and they went for gains of twenty one, twenty five,
- 4:44Speaker 1: thirty one, twenty three and sixty five. That's one hundred
- 4:49Speaker 1: sixty five yards in the half. On the opening drive
- 4:52Speaker 1: of the third quarter, Cup added catches of fifteen and
- 4:56Speaker 1: forty to finish with seven grabs for two hundred twenty yards.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Several of those catches came with Tony McCrae in coverage.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I talked to him about it after the game. I
- 5:07Speaker 1: could have competed well better against him than I did today.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He shouldn't have he shouldn't have had the yard as
- 5:13Speaker 1: he had, but he worked for it, so kudos anything
- 5:18Speaker 1: about him in particular that makes him so tough. Smart player,
- 5:22Speaker 1: understands what you're doing to him. He vet guy. You
- 5:25Speaker 1: can tell he's not only a good athlete, he understands
- 5:28Speaker 1: the game. You are visibly down about the outcome today,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and it's understandable. Why are you taking this one especially
- 5:37Speaker 1: hard personally? Yeah? I feel like I prepare well, just
- 5:42Speaker 1: didn't execute the way I should have executed it today.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Whenever you take a loss, shoe, look at yourself and
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm looking at myself right now. Mccraig's honesty is commandable.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But Cooper Cup's huge game wasn't all his fault. I
- 5:55Speaker 1: asked Dave Lapham why Cincinnati could not cover Cup. I
- 5:59Speaker 1: think the bank were their own worst enemy in a
- 6:01Speaker 1: lot of cases, with bad discipline in their own coverages.
- 6:05Speaker 1: He had huge cavities. I mean a guy like that
- 6:09Speaker 1: coming into the game with over fifty catches. He was
- 6:12Speaker 1: second in the NFL and he was fifth in yards,
- 6:15Speaker 1: So you know, it's not like you know that he
- 6:17Speaker 1: can't make play. So for him to be as open
- 6:20Speaker 1: as he was at times, and you know his Bengals
- 6:23Speaker 1: hurt themselves. But the guy is a great player. Shoot,
- 6:26Speaker 1: he's fast, he's good hands, I mean, he's smart, catches
- 6:29Speaker 1: the heck out of the football. And like I said,
- 6:32Speaker 1: coming in he was in the top five in both
- 6:34Speaker 1: categories and second and catches. So you don't you don't
- 6:37Speaker 1: want to you don't want to have a guy like that,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you know, get off on you like he did, because
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know he was capable of it coming into the
- 6:45Speaker 1: game based on his Prouder stats. So the Rams were
- 6:48Speaker 1: up by seven at the half and heading into the game,
- 6:51Speaker 1: Los Angeles was twenty one in oh with a halftime
- 6:54Speaker 1: lead under Sean McVeagh. The key to that stat is
- 6:58Speaker 1: adding to halftime leads, which the Rams did on their
- 7:01Speaker 1: opening drive of the third quarter. Sean McVay covering his
- 7:05Speaker 1: mouth with his play sheet as he describes what he
- 7:07Speaker 1: wants into the helmet radio of golf. It's a toss
- 7:10Speaker 1: sweep to the left and Gurley down to the five
- 7:12Speaker 1: toward the pylon. Touchdown Rams. That made a twenty four
- 7:17Speaker 1: to ten and that was it for the Rams offense.
- 7:20Speaker 1: They punted on their final four drives of the game. Unfortunately,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the Bengals couldn't capitalize. Third down and seven, the Bengals
- 7:28Speaker 1: at their own twenty four. Dalton catches the shotgun snap
- 7:31Speaker 1: and he sacked. He'll drop back to throw Andy will
- 7:35Speaker 1: be sacked by Aaron Donald, who pile drives him into
- 7:38Speaker 1: the Wembley turf for a loss of three. Dalton under
- 7:42Speaker 1: pressure and he will be sacked for the fifth time today.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Back at the twenty eight yard line. Down by fourteen,
- 7:48Speaker 1: with a little more than five minutes to go, the
- 7:50Speaker 1: Bengals had one last good chance to make it a game,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but they needed a touchdown on fourth and goal from
- 7:56Speaker 1: the Rams six. Empty backfield for Andy Dalton, who waits
- 8:00Speaker 1: the eleven yard line for the shotgun snap quick throw slamp.
- 8:03Speaker 1: It is caught and the tackle is made. The Bengals
- 8:07Speaker 1: will not convert tackle made it to three yard line
- 8:10Speaker 1: and the Bengals on the past the Stanley Morgan Junior
- 8:13Speaker 1: do not get in. That was the sixth time this
- 8:16Speaker 1: year that the Bengals have driven into the red zone
- 8:18Speaker 1: without scoring a single point. Before the game was finished,
- 8:23Speaker 1: they made it seven times from the nine yard line.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Final play of the game, Dalton, looking to throw, scrambling
- 8:28Speaker 1: to the right eyes in the end zone, cocks the arm,
- 8:31Speaker 1: throws into the back of the end zone, battered away
- 8:34Speaker 1: intended for Auden Tate, and the game is over. The
- 8:38Speaker 1: Bengals remained winless. They are oh and eight for the
- 8:42Speaker 1: sixth time in franchise history. They fall to the Rams
- 8:46Speaker 1: today by the final score of twenty four to ten.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Dalton finished with three hundred twenty nine passing yards and
- 8:53Speaker 1: the Bengals ran for one oh four that's roughly twice
- 8:57Speaker 1: what they've been getting on the ground per game, but
- 9:00Speaker 1: the combination of goff to cup killed them time to
- 9:04Speaker 1: hear from head coach Zach Taylor, who spent three minutes
- 9:07Speaker 1: with Lap after the game. Got the running game going
- 9:09Speaker 1: a little bit in the first half, and um, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: you're using your multiple tight end packages and they were
- 9:16Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to how to match up
- 9:18Speaker 1: with it, and you guys, you guys gashed them a
- 9:19Speaker 1: few times. We did. You know that was encouraging. Um,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I thought our guys up fun did a great job
- 9:24Speaker 1: backs back Sneward hit it. We're doing an excellent job there.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And then tight ends factored in as well. But that
- 9:29Speaker 1: was certainly good start to the first half. So um.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Obviously they didn't run the ball real well, but Goff
- 9:35Speaker 1: started taking advantage of the middle of the field. It
- 9:38Speaker 1: looked like quite a few times in Cooper Cup. You
- 9:39Speaker 1: know all about these guys. I mean that guy's he's
- 9:42Speaker 1: something special, isn't he. Yeah, they got a bunch of
- 9:44Speaker 1: talented players and that's why they went to the Super
- 9:46Speaker 1: bowlash year. They got a lot of faith in them.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And you know, it works together. You know, we gotta
- 9:51Speaker 1: make sure we put pressure on there and claps the
- 9:53Speaker 1: pocket so that it didn't have the time to throw
- 9:55Speaker 1: down the field and um never sometimes we have some
- 9:57Speaker 1: poor zone discipline there on the back end, and we
- 9:59Speaker 1: got better job there. Had a couple of interception opportunities
- 10:03Speaker 1: in a game like this, when they're there, you got
- 10:05Speaker 1: to you gotta catch him right. You can't let them.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You can't let him. So three hands it was gonna
- 10:08Speaker 1: be the difference in winning it losing. You know, we
- 10:09Speaker 1: got to create some turnovers and we certainly had some
- 10:12Speaker 1: opportunities there and guys, I gotta step up and make
- 10:14Speaker 1: those plays. Those can be touchdowns the other way, big explosives,
- 10:17Speaker 1: you know, game changing plays and we gotta find a
- 10:19Speaker 1: way to make them. Alex Erickson ended up with six
- 10:23Speaker 1: catches for ninety seven yards, including that fifty two yard
- 10:27Speaker 1: or up the sideline. Tyler right for six catches for
- 10:29Speaker 1: seventy four yards, So there was some distribution of football
- 10:32Speaker 1: and tight made some big plays for you. They took
- 10:34Speaker 1: the touchdown away there at the end of the football game,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but it looked like you know, Andy had he set
- 10:40Speaker 1: a record for three hundred yard passing days. He was
- 10:42Speaker 1: thirty thirty five for fifty two three twenty nine yards
- 10:46Speaker 1: and a touchdown, So you guys were moving the football
- 10:49Speaker 1: we were just too many reds and opportunities that got
- 10:51Speaker 1: away from us. You know, we have the two we
- 10:52Speaker 1: ended up inside the tent at the end of the
- 10:54Speaker 1: game with no points and situations we had to go
- 10:56Speaker 1: for and fourth down three points wasn't gonna help us stare.
- 10:58Speaker 1: And then we had plenty of times there on the
- 10:59Speaker 1: red on fringe where we went backwards and either got
- 11:03Speaker 1: knocked out of field goal range or took ourselves out
- 11:05Speaker 1: of fourth and go for it situation. So that was hard.
- 11:07Speaker 1: That's the difference in winning and losing. And that one drive,
- 11:10Speaker 1: I think he had four straight fourth down conversions. I mean,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you just kept kept going forward and making the conversience,
- 11:16Speaker 1: except like you said, when it was in the deep
- 11:17Speaker 1: in the deep red zone, and you know that that
- 11:20Speaker 1: obviously becomes a different dynamic a little bit. Yeah, you
- 11:23Speaker 1: guys had a lot of confidence what we're asking to do,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and so when you feel that energy, there's situations where
- 11:29Speaker 1: we felt like we needed to go for it to
- 11:30Speaker 1: give ourselves the best chance one of the game, and
- 11:32Speaker 1: our guys stepped up and executed. I played on a
- 11:35Speaker 1: team that started all eight coach in the in the
- 11:37Speaker 1: late seventies and our mindset at the bye, there wasn't
- 11:40Speaker 1: really a buye. But at the halfway point we said, okay,
- 11:44Speaker 1: didn't go right in the first half, So that's one
- 11:46Speaker 1: season that's over with. Let's start the second half and
- 11:49Speaker 1: make this the second season and see if we can
- 11:52Speaker 1: win some football games. We ended up winning half of them,
- 11:54Speaker 1: went four and four. Is that kind of the mindset now?
- 11:57Speaker 1: It is, you know, And we still got to take
- 11:59Speaker 1: it one game at a time, starting with a divisional
- 12:01Speaker 1: game at home, which is which is one we'd certainly
- 12:04Speaker 1: want to get after they got us on the road,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and the pie comes at the right time, you know,
- 12:08Speaker 1: we get a chance to get some guys healthy, get
- 12:09Speaker 1: our depth back and make a charge here on the
- 12:12Speaker 1: second half of the season. And I know guys are
- 12:14Speaker 1: believing that we're close. We're there. We can we can
- 12:16Speaker 1: break through this barrier man and start winning a lot
- 12:18Speaker 1: of football games. And we're close. We just gotta get
- 12:20Speaker 1: it done. Bengals are oh and eight for the first
- 12:23Speaker 1: time since OH eight in the second half of that
- 12:27Speaker 1: season they went four to three and one and then
- 12:29Speaker 1: one the AFC North in two thousand and nine. Now
- 12:33Speaker 1: time for some postgame analysis as Dave Lapham and I
- 12:37Speaker 1: discussed the bengals fifteenth loss in their last sixteen games.
- 12:41Speaker 1: A few things stood out to me after this game.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Lap number one, too many third and long conversions for
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Rams against the Bengals defense. Number two squandered opportunities
- 12:52Speaker 1: to intercept passes unofficially three of those today. And number
- 12:57Speaker 1: three too much Cooper Cup twenty saiving yards the Bengals
- 13:01Speaker 1: could not stop. Number eighteen for the Rams. He's the
- 13:04Speaker 1: one that made a lot of those third and long
- 13:06Speaker 1: plays too. I mean, he was, he was phenomenally. He
- 13:08Speaker 1: had what seven catches for two hundred and twenty yards,
- 13:11Speaker 1: over thirty one yards of catch, sixty five yard touchdown.
- 13:14Speaker 1: He was. He was magic out there, particularly in the
- 13:18Speaker 1: first half. You know, I thought that originally in the
- 13:21Speaker 1: first half the Rams had some problems matching up with
- 13:25Speaker 1: the two tight end formation and running game. The running
- 13:27Speaker 1: game got started pretty well. Joe Mixon had over fifty
- 13:30Speaker 1: yards rushing in that in that first half. And then
- 13:34Speaker 1: you know, again, kind of the circumstances the game dictate
- 13:37Speaker 1: you had to get away from that a little bit.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And and he throws it fifty two times. I mean,
- 13:41Speaker 1: he throws for over three hundred yards to set a
- 13:43Speaker 1: record for three hundred yard passing games in the franchise history.
- 13:47Speaker 1: But uh, you know, he much rather would run it
- 13:49Speaker 1: fifty two times and win the football game. I can
- 13:51Speaker 1: tell you that right now. So you know, obviously, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: not enough, not enough points. You can't can't win in
- 13:58Speaker 1: the NFL scoring ten points, you can't win in the NFL.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Given up, you know, third and ten or more as
- 14:03Speaker 1: many times has occurred, and uh, you know that honestly,
- 14:07Speaker 1: there was some some discipline problems with zone coverages, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 1: in the back end of things that that caused some problems.
- 14:14Speaker 1: For sure, it's hard to be encouraged by a fourteen
- 14:17Speaker 1: point loss, but one building block for the Bengals was
- 14:20Speaker 1: the fact that they outrushed the Rams. We know about
- 14:23Speaker 1: that running game disparity this year that's been so bad
- 14:26Speaker 1: for the Bengals. Well they did outrush one of the
- 14:29Speaker 1: NFL's better rushing teams. Yeah, they're not running out like
- 14:32Speaker 1: they have in the last couple of years, but you know,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm sure they wanted to run involve better than they
- 14:37Speaker 1: did tonight. Um and the Bengals did show some life
- 14:41Speaker 1: that ground game, Like I said with the first half,
- 14:43Speaker 1: particularly with the two tight ends set that I think,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, Rams had to make some adjustments with a
- 14:49Speaker 1: little bit and how they were going to come out
- 14:50Speaker 1: and handle it. So unfortunately, again you know, too little,
- 14:56Speaker 1: too little, too late kind of scenario. And the problem
- 14:59Speaker 1: was in the red zone again, a couple of opportunities
- 15:02Speaker 1: down the stretch of the game where come away with
- 15:04Speaker 1: no points and a couple of red zone opportunities, want
- 15:06Speaker 1: to overturn touchdown catched and you know rightfully so, I mean,
- 15:10Speaker 1: the ball didn't move, the ball didn't bounce, but it
- 15:13Speaker 1: was that close to be in a touchdown for aud
- 15:14Speaker 1: and Tat and that would have said another record for
- 15:16Speaker 1: Andy Dalton if that had happened. But again, these records
- 15:19Speaker 1: ring hollow to him if they don't win football games.
- 15:21Speaker 1: He would be the first one to say that. I know.
- 15:23Speaker 1: In fact, he said it in the postgame show. Zach
- 15:26Speaker 1: Taylor's message to the team after the game. We got
- 15:29Speaker 1: to treat it like were zero and zero going to
- 15:31Speaker 1: the buy come back as if it were the first game.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Obviously it's not, but that's what they have to try
- 15:37Speaker 1: to put into their minds and start the second half
- 15:40Speaker 1: of the season in much better form. Yeah, I mean,
- 15:42Speaker 1: you just got a reboot basically, you know, And that's
- 15:45Speaker 1: what everybody was, you know, echoing Zack's comments, and you know,
- 15:49Speaker 1: after the game in the postgame locker room, and and
- 15:52Speaker 1: you know, I mentioned to Zach Wan to talk to him.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I said, I've been there and I lived on don't
- 15:56Speaker 1: know on eight team, and we basically said, all right.
- 15:59Speaker 1: There was no buy back then, but we said, we're
- 16:01Speaker 1: at the halfway point. Hasn't worked out. We got to
- 16:03Speaker 1: put that aside as seasons over with. It was the
- 16:05Speaker 1: worst season we ever experienced. I start a second season
- 16:08Speaker 1: and see what we can do. And we ended up
- 16:10Speaker 1: four and four. And his response was, that's exactly what
- 16:13Speaker 1: we're talking about doing. But you know, we're not looking
- 16:16Speaker 1: at eight games, an overall eight game record. We got
- 16:18Speaker 1: we gotta go beat the Baltimore Ravens, who is a
- 16:21Speaker 1: division opponent. They spanked us in Baltimore. We want to
- 16:24Speaker 1: we want to get off, you know, off on the
- 16:26Speaker 1: right track to start the second half of the season
- 16:27Speaker 1: with a division win. And you know, that's the mindset
- 16:30Speaker 1: you have to take. And right now, during the bye week,
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think as much as try to get healthy physically,
- 16:36Speaker 1: you got to get healthy mentally and come back with
- 16:39Speaker 1: that frame of mind. And and you know, maybe they'll
- 16:41Speaker 1: start to get some players back that they desperately need
- 16:43Speaker 1: to add to their depth, you know, and some guys
- 16:47Speaker 1: who played more snaps than they thought they would probably
- 16:49Speaker 1: in the first half of the season. If they get
- 16:51Speaker 1: some guys returning, that could be beneficial down the stretch.
- 16:54Speaker 1: How did they handle Aaron die in your opinion, I
- 16:57Speaker 1: thought I thought pretty well. I mean he had the one,
- 16:59Speaker 1: the one big, you know, tackle for loss. But I
- 17:02Speaker 1: think it takes a village to handle him. And I
- 17:06Speaker 1: think they recruited everybody in the village, you know, I
- 17:08Speaker 1: think everybody had had a hand in it. And you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: even even when you with that said, when you're doing that,
- 17:14Speaker 1: it creates one on ones for foul or another guys
- 17:17Speaker 1: that just you know, rockers, they all take advantage of
- 17:19Speaker 1: their opportunities and they love having a teammate like Aaron Donald.
- 17:24Speaker 1: That's gonna every time you come to the line of experiments.
- 17:26Speaker 1: You have to identify him the quarterback. Everybody has to
- 17:29Speaker 1: identify him and make sure you give four hands and
- 17:31Speaker 1: four eyes on the guy prior to that game. Lap
- 17:34Speaker 1: we were standing on the pitch, as they would say,
- 17:36Speaker 1: at Wembley Stadium and watched A J. Green go through
- 17:39Speaker 1: a pretty aggressive workout. I suspect he'll be back for
- 17:42Speaker 1: the next game against Baltimore. What do you think I
- 17:44Speaker 1: do too? I mean, I think so, And you know,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I think there's a there's a laundry list of guys
- 17:49Speaker 1: that might be able to come back. You know, when
- 17:51Speaker 1: you look at it, dark Quest and arms at the hamstring,
- 17:54Speaker 1: maybe that's aggressive depending on the severity of the hamstring
- 17:57Speaker 1: and where it's pulled. The higher up at the hamstring,
- 17:59Speaker 1: the worst the issue is. So I'm not sure about that.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Draker Patrick with his knee, Carl Lawson with his hamstring,
- 18:05Speaker 1: John Miller with the groin. I mean, there's a there's
- 18:07Speaker 1: a few guys that you know might be able to
- 18:10Speaker 1: make their way back. So obviously the depth will be
- 18:12Speaker 1: significantly better down the stretch of start getting some of
- 18:15Speaker 1: these guys back, and uh, you know they're can Obviously
- 18:19Speaker 1: real good football players are the guys have probably played
- 18:22Speaker 1: snaps that they weren't expecting necessarily to play in the
- 18:25Speaker 1: positions that they're playing them in. But that's just going
- 18:27Speaker 1: to add to the overall depth of the football team
- 18:29Speaker 1: for the second half of the season and during the
- 18:31Speaker 1: bye week. Man, it's a two step process. You get
- 18:33Speaker 1: yourself physically right, you know, with treatment and rest, and
- 18:36Speaker 1: mentally right, you know, you got to get your mind
- 18:38Speaker 1: right to come back and turn it around in the
- 18:40Speaker 1: second half of the season and you can get some ws,
- 18:43Speaker 1: get some victories under their belts. The Bengals have had
- 18:46Speaker 1: five previous oh and eight starts in their history. On
- 18:49Speaker 1: four of the five previous times that happened, they won
- 18:52Speaker 1: game number nine, So we'll see if they can do
- 18:55Speaker 1: it this time around. Back home at Paul Brown Stadium
- 18:58Speaker 1: against the Ravens and a couple of weeks. Ravens are
- 19:01Speaker 1: five and two and currently have a two and a
- 19:04Speaker 1: half game lead in the AFC north over Pittsburgh. The
- 19:07Speaker 1: two and four Steelers have a home game on Monday
- 19:09Speaker 1: night against the Windless Dolphins. Now time for this week's
- 19:13Speaker 1: fun Facts interview, where we get to know the person
- 19:16Speaker 1: under the pads. This week, it's a member of last
- 19:20Speaker 1: year's rookie class who has to be among the NFL
- 19:24Speaker 1: leaders in spectacular catches so far this season. Time for
- 19:28Speaker 1: some fun Facts with wide receiver Auden Tate born in
- 19:31Speaker 1: South Carolina, but went to high school and college in Florida.
- 19:35Speaker 1: When people ask you where you're from, what do you say?
- 19:38Speaker 1: From Armo, South Carolina, live in Tampa Bay, Parsley, but
- 19:44Speaker 1: from Irma, South Carolina. Why did you move to Florida
- 19:47Speaker 1: when you were a kid. My dad's a pastor. You
- 19:50Speaker 1: wanted to start to church down in Tampa Bay. You're
- 19:53Speaker 1: six five. Were you always the tallest kid in the neighborhood?
- 19:57Speaker 1: Ni him on Grossberts about nine grade. Before that, I
- 20:00Speaker 1: played like running back and point guard and stuff like that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I figured you must have played basketball at some level.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Were you good or just tall? No? I I was
- 20:10Speaker 1: good at high school and middle school. Going out, I
- 20:14Speaker 1: ain't get to play my senior year, I told my LCL.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But my junior stuff, I was like, oh, county and
- 20:19Speaker 1: we went to State my sophomore year. So I was.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I was pretty pretty high, pretty straight. We're talking to
- 20:25Speaker 1: autumn Tate. You were one of the most heavily recruited
- 20:27Speaker 1: wide receivers in the country when you were senior in
- 20:30Speaker 1: high school. What's your best story about a famous coach
- 20:33Speaker 1: showing up at your school or showing up at your house,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I'd probably say, um, when a hardball. When he left
- 20:41Speaker 1: forty nine US and went down to Michigan, like I
- 20:44Speaker 1: think it was like a couple of weeks later he
- 20:46Speaker 1: was at my house. Now he was at my school,
- 20:48Speaker 1: like at the school house. It was just weird because
- 20:51Speaker 1: I just remember him from the forty nine ers and
- 20:53Speaker 1: you know, now he was at Michigan. That was just
- 20:55Speaker 1: kind of crazy to me at that moment where the
- 20:56Speaker 1: other kids say there was a lot of people just
- 20:59Speaker 1: trying to get like pitches and autographs with him because
- 21:01Speaker 1: they remembered them too from when they went to Super Bowl.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Aye and all this stuff. Are doing fun facts with
- 21:06Speaker 1: autumn Tate. Do you remember what college reached out to
- 21:08Speaker 1: you first and how that felt us University of South
- 21:12Speaker 1: Florida got our first scholarship before. I think it was
- 21:16Speaker 1: Alonzo Game my junior year. I remember that. Yeah, pretty exciting. Yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 1: definitely knowing that my parents ain't had to worry about
- 21:24Speaker 1: no college. Yeah, he went to Florida State and played
- 21:27Speaker 1: for Jimbo Fisher. I got to know him when he
- 21:30Speaker 1: was the offensive coordinator at the University of Cincinnati and
- 21:33Speaker 1: he could be pretty rough on guys back then. Describe
- 21:37Speaker 1: your relationship with him when you were playing for Florida State,
- 21:40Speaker 1: Like I said, Yeah, he's very like intense. You can
- 21:43Speaker 1: kind of use I wouldn't say ferocious, but he's very
- 21:47Speaker 1: intense when he on the field. He about his business,
- 21:49Speaker 1: about his business. Feel. Yeah, I mean we had a
- 21:52Speaker 1: good relationship. I definitely had growing paintings at first, you know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: just trying to be accountable and more mature and stuff
- 21:58Speaker 1: like that. But growing up more and more like throughout
- 22:00Speaker 1: the years, I started to see like more stuff like that,
- 22:03Speaker 1: So I think we had a great relationship. You spent
- 22:06Speaker 1: three years with the Seminoles. Your final year you led
- 22:08Speaker 1: the acc and touchdown catches and did it despite playing
- 22:11Speaker 1: much of the year with a separated shoulder. How did
- 22:13Speaker 1: you manage the pain? To be honest, I'd say just
- 22:17Speaker 1: seeing my other brothers out there, my other teammates from
- 22:20Speaker 1: Florida State. You know, we had a good bound when
- 22:22Speaker 1: I was there, so, you know, seeing them boys out there,
- 22:24Speaker 1: I just wanted to do everything in my power to
- 22:26Speaker 1: get out there, you know, whether I was in pain
- 22:28Speaker 1: or whatever, just find a way to make impact. Was
- 22:30Speaker 1: that a situation where you would dread a hit to
- 22:33Speaker 1: that shoulder. Oh yeah, definitely. I got hit a couple
- 22:35Speaker 1: of times, especially Miami cams get hit a lot in it.
- 22:38Speaker 1: But you know, it's just it is the generally kind
- 22:41Speaker 1: of running, so you just kind of rolled with it.
- 22:43Speaker 1: We're doing fun facts with autumn. Take the Bengals drafted
- 22:46Speaker 1: you in the seventh round. Was your phone ringing off
- 22:49Speaker 1: the hook from teams thinking that maybe you wouldn't get
- 22:53Speaker 1: picked and they could try to sign you as an
- 22:54Speaker 1: undrafted free agent? M Yeah, I was like, actually enterprise.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I was about to go to the Eagles undrafted contract thing.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I was like like really like about to be on
- 23:05Speaker 1: the way, and then I got a call from the Bingles.
- 23:07Speaker 1: When you did get that call from the Bengals, who
- 23:10Speaker 1: is the most excited person in the room. Probably my
- 23:14Speaker 1: mom probably, yeah, probably my mom, my dad, They're probably
- 23:18Speaker 1: most too excited. Were the tears flowing? Yeah? Yeah? For them? Yeah,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and for you. Didn't represent the culmination of all the
- 23:26Speaker 1: hard work and everything you had done up until that point. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: this kind of feel like I got slided to with
- 23:32Speaker 1: my forty yard dash and then my shoulder injury. But
- 23:35Speaker 1: you know, still hear my name calls, you know, just
- 23:37Speaker 1: a blessing. A lot of people don't. You're only in
- 23:39Speaker 1: your second year, so you haven't made the really big
- 23:42Speaker 1: bucks yet. But what do you like to spend your
- 23:45Speaker 1: money on? Movies? Movies? Movies. I'm always out of movies,
- 23:51Speaker 1: and I prefer to go to the movies rather than
- 23:53Speaker 1: get it on DVD. I like this experience is going there,
- 23:55Speaker 1: give him a popcorn. I see sitting down and just
- 23:58Speaker 1: watching a movie. So yeah, movies, definitely, I'm with you.
- 24:01Speaker 1: There's nothing like being in that darkened room with a
- 24:03Speaker 1: big screen and you can zone everything out right, see exactly.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I love. I'm probably gonna be the rights practice. Do
- 24:10Speaker 1: you have a couple of all time favorites? Atl? Dark
- 24:13Speaker 1: Night Dark Knight Rises? And Damn Joker was really good too.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I was surprised his performance. That was real good too.
- 24:23Speaker 1: If you could meet anybody in history, actor, athlete, politician,
- 24:27Speaker 1: religious figure, whatever, who would that person be? I pros
- 24:32Speaker 1: Denzel Washington. He's the same, real, insightful, smart, very self
- 24:37Speaker 1: aware about things. I just want to like just rite
- 24:40Speaker 1: with him to see what hit at How you think
- 24:43Speaker 1: the best walk in the world. The Denzel Washington strut
- 24:47Speaker 1: there's something about his walk. I think that's very unique.
- 24:51Speaker 1: The training day, great role right there. All right, Do
- 24:56Speaker 1: you have a talent, a hidden talent that is not
- 24:58Speaker 1: related to sports? I used to like to read a
- 25:02Speaker 1: lot high school college. I don't do it as much
- 25:05Speaker 1: no more, But I mean that was it. I don't
- 25:08Speaker 1: really got too many of the hitting ones. I'm pretty
- 25:10Speaker 1: much open book on the flip side. Is there something
- 25:13Speaker 1: that you are just terrible at that you couldn't met?
- 25:15Speaker 1: You know, I'm awful at that thing. Hitting the baseball,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm good. I was good at like catching and all
- 25:21Speaker 1: that stuff. But hitting it, I don't know. I don't
- 25:23Speaker 1: think I ever hit it makes you feel any better?
- 25:25Speaker 1: I saw Lebron James take batting practice once when he
- 25:28Speaker 1: was still in Cleveland. He was terrible. Couldn't get it
- 25:30Speaker 1: out of the cage. Yeah, I was missing. At least
- 25:33Speaker 1: he hid it, all right. Final fun fact for Auden Tate.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Your Twitter handle is little Tate. You're not little. What's
- 25:43Speaker 1: the story behind the little Tate? I don't know. It's
- 25:46Speaker 1: a big contradiction consider I'm kind of a more bigger figure.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't know, to be honest. A few people just
- 25:53Speaker 1: started like calling me that, and then like I just
- 25:58Speaker 1: kind of just stuck with it to be that's crazy
- 26:01Speaker 1: because it is like a big contradiction, but I just
- 26:03Speaker 1: rule with it. It's got to appreciate the irony. Yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 1: I appreciate your time. Thanks so much. Best of what
- 26:09Speaker 1: going forward. He doesn't appreciate it. That's Autumn Tate. We
- 26:13Speaker 1: want to remind you to come out and join us
