Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:44Speaker 1: about this week's full episode subject Billy Idle. We're previewing
- 0:48Speaker 1: the coming Charles Manson, Mama Cash, Sharon Tatee madness that'll
- 0:51Speaker 1: be in your Disgraceland in Hollywood Land feed shortly we're
- 0:53Speaker 1: talking rock and roll, Hall of Fame, blues, and we
- 0:55Speaker 1: get into your voicemails, text DMS emails and as always,
- 0:59Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. All right, Discos, let's get
- 1:03Speaker 1: into it. Billy Idol. This week's full episode subject of
- 1:18Speaker 1: disgrace and was, as you've by now learned if you listened,
- 1:22Speaker 1: a true rock and roll animal. As we like to say,
- 1:25Speaker 1: few musicians lived as dangerously and as wild as Billy
- 1:31Speaker 1: Idl did, and fewer still live to tell about it.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Billy is on the short list of rock and Roll Animalism.
- 1:38Speaker 1: That shortlist with like Keith Moon, Keith Richards, small handful
- 1:43Speaker 1: of others. Billy Idol is also on another list. He's
- 1:48Speaker 1: on the list of musicians nominated this year to the
- 1:50Speaker 1: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with Billy Idol Oasis,
- 1:55Speaker 1: Bad Company, Black Crows, Outcast, White Stripes, Joe Cocker, Joy Division,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and New Order as banned. How does that make sense?
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'm not sure. Chubby Checker, Cindy lauper MANA Fish, Soundgarden,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and Mariah Carey are all nominated. That's with Billy Idol
- 2:11Speaker 1: fourteen nominees. Now only seven are going to get in.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Only seven are going to get into the Rock and
- 2:18Speaker 1: Roll Hall of Fame. Does Billy Idol deserve to be
- 2:21Speaker 1: one of these seven? That's what I want to figure
- 2:22Speaker 1: out again. Here's the list Oasis, Bad Company, Black Crows, Outcast,
- 2:25Speaker 1: White Stripes, Joe Cocker, Joy Division and New Order, Chubby Checker,
- 2:28Speaker 1: Cidei lauper MANA Fish, Soundgarden, and Mariah Carey. So which
- 2:33Speaker 1: seven are you choosing from that list? If it's me
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'd nominate Bad Brains, Graham Parsons, New York Dolls, Motorhead
- 2:43Speaker 1: in the Smiths before I nominate most of this list,
- 2:48Speaker 1: but that is another story. Let's stick to the cards
- 2:50Speaker 1: we've been dealt here. In twenty twenty five, you have
- 2:54Speaker 1: seven artists you can choose from this list of fourteen
- 2:57Speaker 1: artists Oasis, Bad Company, Black Crows, Outcast One, Sorry Still Cocker,
- 3:00Speaker 1: Joe Division in new order, Chubby Checker, Cindy Lappermanafish, Soundgarden,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and Mariah Carry Who are you choosing for your seven? Now?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees are chosen by
- 3:13Speaker 1: a mix of industry insiders and a fan vote. Right now,
- 3:18Speaker 1: the fan vote has the following seven artists in the lead,
- 3:24Speaker 1: with what I would assume is the best chance of
- 3:26Speaker 1: getting in when the polls close on April twenty first.
- 3:29Speaker 1: They are in reverse order, number seven with the most
- 3:33Speaker 1: votes Number seven, Chubby Checker, number six, Joe Cocker number five,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Our friends who we've been talking a lot about here
- 3:42Speaker 1: in disgracelamd Lately, Soundgarden number four, Cindy Lauper number three
- 3:47Speaker 1: are Guy Billy IDL, number two, Bad Company, and number
- 3:53Speaker 1: one Fish Fish Fish number one in the voting by
- 4:00Speaker 1: a wide margin as well. Now, I don't know about you, guys,
- 4:03Speaker 1: but Fish would be way down on my list. But
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm guessing their top ranking here in votes has more
- 4:11Speaker 1: to do with Fish's fan base being super active online.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I think that's what's going on. I don't think people
- 4:18Speaker 1: buy and large think the Fish is more deserving, the
- 4:22Speaker 1: most deserving of all fourteen of these nominees to be
- 4:26Speaker 1: in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now, notably
- 4:30Speaker 1: Black Crows, Mariah Carey, Joydvision, Slash, New Order, White Stripes, Outcast,
- 4:34Speaker 1: Oasis in Mana. I don't know who Mana is, but anyways,
- 4:39Speaker 1: Mana are currently not receiving enough votes to qualify. How
- 4:43Speaker 1: is it that there's an artist on the Rock and
- 4:45Speaker 1: Roll Hall of Fame inductee list that I've never heard of? Okay,
- 4:50Speaker 1: that makes no sense. And I know you're gonna say
- 4:54Speaker 1: they're from South America or Mexico or Spain or some
- 4:58Speaker 1: other country that I'm not paying attention to. You're right,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm not paying attention to them. But that's not my problem.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's their problem. They're supposed to be so undeniably great
- 5:08Speaker 1: and Hall of Fame worthy that they are pulling my
- 5:11Speaker 1: attention toward them. That's another story. I don't want to
- 5:13Speaker 1: get into that. Just know that Mana, along with Oasis, Outcast,
- 5:18Speaker 1: White Stripes, Joydavision, Slash, New Order, Mariah Carey, Black Crows
- 5:22Speaker 1: right now, as of the voting, are not getting into
- 5:25Speaker 1: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And that a
- 5:27Speaker 1: list topped by Fish. Well, you know, okay, so this
- 5:33Speaker 1: list doesn't upset me as much as the grunge list
- 5:36Speaker 1: from a couple of weeks ago that we were talking about.
- 5:39Speaker 1: But it's you know, I mean guys again, the seven
- 5:42Speaker 1: in the lead, Fish, Bad Company, our Guy, Billy Idol,
- 5:45Speaker 1: Cindy Lapper, Soundguard, and Joe Cocker. And I get I
- 5:48Speaker 1: got a problem with Oasis and Black Crows being below
- 5:51Speaker 1: Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, Cindy Lauper, and Fish
- 5:58Speaker 1: even Soundguard, And I think I put Oasis in Black
- 6:01Speaker 1: Crows above Soundgarden, I would, I think? So. Yeah. I'm
- 6:07Speaker 1: not sure what the criteria is here, but rock and
- 6:10Speaker 1: roll animalism it should be an input, It should be
- 6:13Speaker 1: a thought. At least, it should be a trait, no
- 6:15Speaker 1: matter how heavy or how lightly we wait it. It
- 6:19Speaker 1: should be a trait that we consider when we consider
- 6:22Speaker 1: the worthiness of an artist for the Rock and Roll
- 6:25Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. I know it's you know, this is
- 6:26Speaker 1: our purview, our side of the street. Our point of
- 6:29Speaker 1: view is rock and roll animalism. I get that, I
- 6:32Speaker 1: get that most people aren't thinking about that. But still,
- 6:35Speaker 1: how do you just ignore it? You know? How do
- 6:39Speaker 1: you ignore it? Fish? Again? Fish? So I want to
- 6:44Speaker 1: know from you guys, who should be inducted into the
- 6:46Speaker 1: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. We can
- 6:48Speaker 1: only choose seven artists. Okay, I already listed five that
- 6:52Speaker 1: I think have been historically snubbed. Bad Brains, Motorhead, Graham Parsons,
- 6:58Speaker 1: New York, Dolls in the Smith's. That leaves only two
- 7:01Speaker 1: remaining slots from our current list of fourteen nominees again Oasis,
- 7:05Speaker 1: Bad Company, Black Crows, Outcast, White Stripes, Steal Cocker, Joy Division, Slash,
- 7:09Speaker 1: New Order, Chubby Checker, Cydey, lauper mana Fish, Soundgarden, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: Mariah Carey. From that list, if I can only choose
- 7:16Speaker 1: two to go along with my list of five snubs,
- 7:22Speaker 1: if I can only choose two from that list of
- 7:24Speaker 1: fourteen who am I choosing, well, definitely, Oasis, definitely, and
- 7:35Speaker 1: I guess I'm bringing it all back to Bangkok Hollar Holler,
- 7:40Speaker 1: City of Squalor. I gotta go with Billy Idol. I
- 7:43Speaker 1: do Oasis and Billy Idol, along with Bad Brains, Motorhead,
- 7:48Speaker 1: Graham Parsons, New York Dolls, and the Smiths, would be
- 7:51Speaker 1: my list of seven Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- 7:57Speaker 1: inductees for the class of twenty twenty five. If your
- 8:01Speaker 1: guy right here, me yours truly was responsible for the Hall.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But I'm not. Maybe some of you are. I don't know.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think that's a great fucking list. Bad Brains, Motorhead,
- 8:13Speaker 1: Grand Parsons, New York Dolls, Smith's, Oasis, and Billy idel
- 8:17Speaker 1: But I want to know who are you inducting into
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame? Okay, you can only choose seven,
- 8:22Speaker 1: all right, seven? And I think some of the lists
- 8:26Speaker 1: of the current fourteen nominees are worthy. I think Billy
- 8:30Speaker 1: Idol is worthy this week's subject. I really do, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: truly do, and not just for his rock and roll animalism.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Dude wrote stone cold hits Okay, huge, massive, culture defining, genre,
- 8:44Speaker 1: defining era, defining hits he was such the avatar for
- 8:51Speaker 1: punk rock that he made it something else where. He
- 8:55Speaker 1: tricked our brains into ignoring the fact that he was
- 8:58Speaker 1: punk rock, if that makes sense. He was that big,
- 9:02Speaker 1: his songs were that impactful. And I know he's Billy
- 9:05Speaker 1: Idol and for those of us who were watching MTV
- 9:08Speaker 1: at the time, he's a top forty artist and he
- 9:09Speaker 1: was kind of a cheeseball, and I get all that,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and I've never really bought a Billie Idol record in
- 9:13Speaker 1: my life, but he just defined that generation and Generation X,
- 9:19Speaker 1: the band he was in before that was just I mean,
- 9:23Speaker 1: come on, ready, Steady go, just great, great, great punk band.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And I truly believe that if he weren't, if he
- 9:29Speaker 1: didn't end up being as big as he was, the
- 9:32Speaker 1: Generation X would have been looked upon more fondly and
- 9:36Speaker 1: as an equal of the Clash, as an equal of
- 9:38Speaker 1: any of those great UK bands from that generation of
- 9:41Speaker 1: mid to late seventies punk rock. Anyhow, I want your
- 9:44Speaker 1: list of seven nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall
- 9:47Speaker 1: of Fame six one seven, nine oh six, six six
- 9:50Speaker 1: three eight. You can call me, leave me a voicemail,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you can send me a text, and perhaps we can
- 9:53Speaker 1: talk about it next week, Okay. Coming up next to
- 9:57Speaker 1: your feed is our episode on Charles Manson the Musician.
- 10:00Speaker 1: This is our rewind episode, our archive episode Charles Manson
- 10:04Speaker 1: the Musician. Yes, he's the same dude as the cult
- 10:07Speaker 1: leader Charles Manson. A Lot of people don't know this,
- 10:09Speaker 1: but Charlie was a real, sort of real, I guess
- 10:11Speaker 1: musician before he orchestrated the murders at Cilo Drive and
- 10:14Speaker 1: the Labianco Residence. Charlie's music was in part what contributed
- 10:19Speaker 1: to his murderous rage, or at least that's what we're
- 10:22Speaker 1: told to believe in Helter Skelter, and Charlie's music lived
- 10:25Speaker 1: on long after he was sent to prison, and it
- 10:28Speaker 1: inspired a whole group of punk rock and hardcore kids
- 10:32Speaker 1: and alternative musicians who came up in the eighties and
- 10:34Speaker 1: in the nineties, Trent Resner, Henry Rollins, and a bunch
- 10:37Speaker 1: of others. We get into all this and the archive
- 10:40Speaker 1: episode on Charles Manson coming Friday, but the main thing
- 10:43Speaker 1: we do in this episode is we set the stage
- 10:46Speaker 1: to totally disrupt the Helter Skelter theory that we've all
- 10:50Speaker 1: been led to believe over the last fifty years or so. Okay,
- 10:53Speaker 1: if you watched the recent Chaos documentary on Netflix, or
- 10:57Speaker 1: you read the Chaos book by Tom O'Neil, the Manson Murders,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you'll know what I'm talking about. So our Manson episode
- 11:04Speaker 1: this Friday is going to feed directly into our Mama
- 11:07Speaker 1: Cass Elliott episodes parts one and two coming up on
- 11:11Speaker 1: Monday and Tuesday. And not only do these Mama Cass
- 11:15Speaker 1: Elliott episodes coming next week challenge and disrupt the accepted
- 11:18Speaker 1: narrative on Helter Skelter, they lay out what I think
- 11:21Speaker 1: really happened, and the truth is way stranger and much
- 11:27Speaker 1: more violent than the story about Charles Manson that we've
- 11:29Speaker 1: all accepted. The truth involves international drug trafficking, gang rape,
- 11:34Speaker 1: like the worst possible thing that could happen to a
- 11:36Speaker 1: dude sort of watching his child die, and a plot
- 11:39Speaker 1: so thick you're going to need to shovel to dig
- 11:41Speaker 1: yourself out of afterward. Okay, which brings us to next
- 11:44Speaker 1: week's question of the week. When you're listening to the
- 11:47Speaker 1: two part Mama Cass episodes, it's a simple question, do
- 11:50Speaker 1: you believe that the accepted narrative on Helter Skelter is real.
- 11:54Speaker 1: And again I'll point out that I rep this this
- 11:58Speaker 1: narrative that I no longer believe in in my Beach
- 12:00Speaker 1: Boys episodes because I had not yet read Chaos when
- 12:04Speaker 1: I made the Beach Boys episodes. This is sort of
- 12:07Speaker 1: me writing the ship attempt with the Mama Cass episodes.
- 12:10Speaker 1: When you're listening to them, my question is did Manson
- 12:13Speaker 1: kill for the reasons that they said he did or
- 12:16Speaker 1: was there another reason? As I lay out that's going
- 12:19Speaker 1: to be next week's question of the week, do you
- 12:21Speaker 1: believe the Helter Skelter narrative? To further stoke your Helter
- 12:25Speaker 1: Skelter flame, our Hollywood Land episodes next week on Monday
- 12:29Speaker 1: tied directly with our Disgraceland episodes. Like I said at
- 12:33Speaker 1: the beginning of next week in the Disgraceland feed, you're
- 12:35Speaker 1: getting our Mama Cass Elliot episodes about the Manson murders.
- 12:40Speaker 1: But did you know that Mama Cass Elliott was best
- 12:42Speaker 1: friends with Sharon Tate? Sharon Tate who was murdered by
- 12:46Speaker 1: the Manson family, did you know that her best friend
- 12:48Speaker 1: was Mama Cass Elliot from the Mamas and Napappas and
- 12:50Speaker 1: and that there is evidence that Charles Manson, through Mama
- 12:54Speaker 1: Cass actually met Sharon Tate before killing her. It's super creepy.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Not only do we get into that in the cast episodes,
- 13:01Speaker 1: but we also get into it in the Sharon Tate
- 13:03Speaker 1: episodes that we are releasing next week in Hollywood Land. Okay,
- 13:07Speaker 1: the Tate hollywood Land episodes speak directly to the Mama
- 13:10Speaker 1: Cass Disgraceland episodes. We wrote them in a Roschermon way.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Each story is set in the same place, but told
- 13:17Speaker 1: from different points of view. The Disgraceland episodes are set
- 13:20Speaker 1: in Helter Skelter and told from the point of view
- 13:22Speaker 1: of Mama Cass, and the Hollywood Land episodes are set
- 13:25Speaker 1: in the same exact place, but told from the point
- 13:27Speaker 1: of view of her friend Sharon Tate. Okay, so Holy
- 13:30Speaker 1: nineteen sixty nine, Batman. Here is the upcoming schedule. Tomorrow
- 13:34Speaker 1: in your Disgraceland feed, a rewind episode on Charles Manson
- 13:37Speaker 1: the music Man. Monday and Tuesday. The story continues in
- 13:40Speaker 1: Disgraceland with parts one and two of the Mama Cass
- 13:43Speaker 1: Elliott story and her relationship to the Manson murders, and
- 13:46Speaker 1: also on Monday over in the Hollywood Land, feed our
- 13:49Speaker 1: two part story on Sharon Tate. I'd listen to manson
- 13:54Speaker 1: Cast one, Cast two, Sharon Tate one and Sharon Tate
- 13:57Speaker 1: two in that order, and then call me and let
- 13:59Speaker 1: me know if you still believe the Helter Skelter narrative
- 14:03Speaker 1: as told by Vincent Buliosi and the biggest selling true
- 14:06Speaker 1: crime book of all time, Helter Skelter. All right, I'm
- 14:07Speaker 1: gonna take a break. I'll be hanging on the telephone
- 14:10Speaker 1: on the other side with your voicemails, texts and dms.
- 14:32Speaker 1: All right, guys, I'm back Apple podcast listeners real quick.
- 14:35Speaker 1: If you're listening on Apple Podcasts, make sure you have
- 14:37Speaker 1: auto downloads turned on for Disgraceland and Hollywood Land. That
- 14:41Speaker 1: way you do not miss any episodes. Six one seven
- 14:44Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. You know where
- 14:46Speaker 1: I'm at. I'm in the phone booth. This is the
- 14:48Speaker 1: one across the hall. I'm hanging on the telephone. You
- 14:50Speaker 1: want to send me a voicemail or a text six
- 14:52Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight to
- 14:55Speaker 1: hang on the telephone with yours truly. Let's check out
- 14:59Speaker 1: this voicemail from Hey, This is been from.
- 15:01Speaker 2: The eight oh three Jack Jake.
- 15:05Speaker 1: God damn it, you got me again. My slack. I
- 15:08Speaker 1: I did listen to John Denver. I sat there flag jawed, thinking,
- 15:13Speaker 1: my god, all my crazy conspiracy series.
- 15:16Speaker 2: On JFK was totally off face because I never heard
- 15:19Speaker 2: Dylan involved.
- 15:21Speaker 1: In any of this stuff.
- 15:22Speaker 2: And what can I.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Say other than you got me again. Great episode, Thanks Chief,
- 15:30Speaker 1: have a good work as always. Raga Rola Ben. All right, man,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I'm happy you get into that episode. I'm happy you
- 15:35Speaker 1: get you get you know, sense of humor about the
- 15:37Speaker 1: whole thing. Appreciate you. I'm especially happy to know that
- 15:41Speaker 1: you fell for John Denver and then you fell for
- 15:44Speaker 1: Bob Dylan as well. All right, let's check out the
- 15:47Speaker 1: four one two Jake.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It's a big gaber from the four one to two Pittsburgh, PA.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I just want to tell you you fucking got me
- 15:55Speaker 2: man so good with this killing episode. My mind was
- 15:58Speaker 2: freaking boy, and I thought I was going to pass
- 16:03Speaker 2: out with rage or whatever when you revealed.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That it was an April foolish Jake four one two
- 16:10Speaker 1: out in Pittsburgh. Rage. Man, I'm not trying to I'm
- 16:15Speaker 1: not trying to drive anyone rage. He's trying to entertain
- 16:17Speaker 1: some folks. Sounds like you took it well. I appreciate that.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Thanks for reaching reaching out. Are you a Pirates fan?
- 16:24Speaker 1: Let me know. I've got a late breaking opinion about
- 16:27Speaker 1: the Pirates. I think the Pittsburgh Pirates might have the
- 16:30Speaker 1: best uniform in baseball. I think they have the best hat,
- 16:33Speaker 1: the one with the piping, you know, circular goes around
- 16:37Speaker 1: the whole thing. What do they call that? What's that
- 16:39Speaker 1: hat called? Hit me back? Four one two? All right?
- 16:42Speaker 1: This one comes from the four one five four one
- 16:44Speaker 1: five right, saying, Hey, totally got me. Bob was very
- 16:47Speaker 1: influential in my life. He's talking about Bob down saw
- 16:49Speaker 1: him in nineteen sixty five at a Berkeley community center. Wow.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Goes on to say, I love that you actually worked
- 16:56Speaker 1: with Carl. He's talking about Carl Bernstein. Uh, you got
- 16:59Speaker 1: me with the John Denver one too. But that did
- 17:01Speaker 1: seem way out of line. This was more feasible. Curious
- 17:03Speaker 1: about Tom Payn Award, and if Dylan really was so
- 17:07Speaker 1: flipping about the war, he certainly was affected by his
- 17:09Speaker 1: death by the murder Most Foul Song recently. Well, yes,
- 17:12Speaker 1: the Tom Pain depiction in the episode the Tom Payn
- 17:15Speaker 1: Awards depiction. That is all everything I put in Dylan's
- 17:19Speaker 1: mouth in that episode is verbatim. I quoted him directly
- 17:23Speaker 1: and all true. And it was a big, big, big
- 17:26Speaker 1: controversy at the time. No one really talks about it anymore.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It's not part of his myth, it's not part of
- 17:31Speaker 1: his lore, and that goes to show just how history
- 17:34Speaker 1: records some things and how history does not record others.
- 17:37Speaker 1: The bit about him being flipping about the war also
- 17:40Speaker 1: completely true. That's from Singout magazine. That quote is a
- 17:44Speaker 1: direct quote from Dylan. I don't believe Dylan was for
- 17:48Speaker 1: the war, however, I think he was fucking with that journalist.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I think what Dylan was for was not being pigeonholed
- 17:53Speaker 1: into any sort of image of the sixties generation of
- 18:00Speaker 1: the anti war movement, anything like that. So four one, five,
- 18:03Speaker 1: appreciate you. Thanks for the text. Nine oh seven rights
- 18:06Speaker 1: and Jake, I must tip my hat to you, the
- 18:08Speaker 1: maestro of the April fools gag. No later than five
- 18:11Speaker 1: hours after I had bragged to my students I'm a
- 18:15Speaker 1: high school chemistry teacher, that no one had fooled me
- 18:17Speaker 1: on April first, I then finished listening to Bob Dylan
- 18:20Speaker 1: Part two. I bought every bit of your episode right
- 18:24Speaker 1: up until you spelled it out. Well played, so well played.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Keep on doing what you do. Lisa from the nine
- 18:29Speaker 1: oh seven Lisa, thank you so much. Do a couple
- 18:32Speaker 1: more here, two one rights and hey, seriously addicted, just
- 18:34Speaker 1: pissed that I'll be caught up in the better part
- 18:36Speaker 1: of a year of commuting. Thank you. You got a
- 18:38Speaker 1: two one six one seven nine oh six six six
- 18:40Speaker 1: three eight. You guys want to send me a voicemail,
- 18:43Speaker 1: send me a text. I was talking about the Pittsburgh
- 18:44Speaker 1: Pirates earlier. Baseball is on my mind, all right. I've
- 18:50Speaker 1: been watching a ton of baseball and I got no
- 18:52Speaker 1: one to really talk about it with, you know, uh,
- 18:54Speaker 1: talk to my stepdad about it, talk to my kids
- 18:57Speaker 1: about it because they're fucking obsessed, which is great. And
- 19:00Speaker 1: I've got the MLB app on the screens here most
- 19:04Speaker 1: twenty four to seven most days basically because of them.
- 19:07Speaker 1: They have it on actually, but there's this new if
- 19:09Speaker 1: you guys, you know, I know there's a lot of
- 19:10Speaker 1: Red Sox fans that listen to me, and for Yankees
- 19:12Speaker 1: fans out there, just bear with me for about ten seconds.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Here there's a new Netflix series called The Clubhouse a
- 19:18Speaker 1: year with the Red Sox, and I gotta say I
- 19:19Speaker 1: am loving it. I'm learning a ton about this new
- 19:23Speaker 1: generation of Red Sox players, and I'm even liking Tristan
- 19:26Speaker 1: Cassis a lot more than I thought I liked him.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Just fantastic. All right, check it out, Red Sox fans,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you'll dig it. That's my thirty second ish sports bit.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I can't help but I talk music and movies all
- 19:38Speaker 1: week with you guys. But I consume a ton of sports,
- 19:41Speaker 1: and it's hard not to talk about them, especially when
- 19:44Speaker 1: it's something like this. It's good. Its hoaxing me and
- 19:45Speaker 1: I'm thinking about it all day long. Anyways, I'm thinking
- 19:49Speaker 1: thinking about movies too, And I'll be back in a
- 19:51Speaker 1: flash with your emails reviews in the Hollywood land Minute.
- 20:09Speaker 1: All right, we are back, and you know what time
- 20:10Speaker 1: it is. It's time for the Hollywood Lab Minute, brought
- 20:12Speaker 1: to you by the Hollywood Lamb Podcast. Don't know what
- 20:14Speaker 1: the Hollywood Lamp podcast is. Well, the Hollywood Lamb Podcast
- 20:16Speaker 1: is hosted by Yours Truly, where every week I tell
- 20:18Speaker 1: you a story from the annex of Hollywood and True Crime.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And right now there are over forty episodes waiting for
- 20:23Speaker 1: you to binge. Episodes on James Dean, Charlie Sheen, Danny Treo,
- 20:26Speaker 1: Meril Monroe, seanpat Steph McQueen, Drew Barrymore, Jane Fonda, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: most recently, master filmmaker David Lynch. Let's check out this clip.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Angelo Bado Lamente sat at an old Fender Rhodes piano,
- 20:41Speaker 1: David Lynch sat next to him. A cassette recorder sat
- 20:44Speaker 1: quietly on top of the keyboard. It was nineteen eighty
- 20:48Speaker 1: eight and Lynch was assembling the project that would become
- 20:51Speaker 1: television's Twin Peaks. It was a huge risk for the director,
- 20:56Speaker 1: the Arth hoouse Au tour behind such underground classics blue
- 21:00Speaker 1: velvet in Eraserhead. This was long before the Sopranos and
- 21:05Speaker 1: long before what's called prestige television. Back then, talent like
- 21:10Speaker 1: David Lynch did not work in television. Television was considered
- 21:16Speaker 1: by some to be trash. But David Lynch was a visionary,
- 21:20Speaker 1: and he was currently trying to envision television as art.
- 21:25Speaker 1: His starting point was the story his co creator Mark
- 21:28Speaker 1: Frost had told him about local history from the town
- 21:31Speaker 1: in upstate New York where Frost grew up. It happened
- 21:34Speaker 1: eighty years earlier, a beautiful blonde girl was found murdered
- 21:38Speaker 1: floating in a pond in the woods. Lynch was using
- 21:41Speaker 1: that story as inspiration as Angelo Bado Lamenti worked on
- 21:44Speaker 1: an evocative composition by his side. Okay, David Angelo said,
- 21:49Speaker 1: what do you see now? David Lynch closed his eyes.
- 21:54Speaker 1: He was there in the woods, in the dark. A
- 21:58Speaker 1: soft wind blew through the pines. On the keyboard, Angelo
- 22:02Speaker 1: slowly alternated between an A flat and C minor. The
- 22:07Speaker 1: bass was slow, like the lapping of the pond water
- 22:11Speaker 1: against the shore, the breath like movement of a body
- 22:15Speaker 1: floating on the surface. That's good, David Lynch said, no,
- 22:20Speaker 1: from behind a tree, as a very lonely girl. And
- 22:24Speaker 1: then the music rose. It came out of the dark
- 22:26Speaker 1: and drifted to the shore. Then it built to something
- 22:30Speaker 1: bright but sad, a ghost glowing in the dark woods.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It was so beautiful, the vision, the music, that it
- 22:39Speaker 1: broke David Lynch's heart. And David Lynch jumped up and
- 22:42Speaker 1: hugged his composer. That's it, he said, that's twin peaks.
- 22:49Speaker 1: All right, guys, make sure you are subscribed to the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Hollywood Lamp podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Cast, box Ieheart Odyssey,
- 22:57Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts, get it to that Hollywood
- 23:00Speaker 1: Land feed and hit follow, hit subscribe, whatever they term
- 23:04Speaker 1: it as. Make sure you're getting every episode as we
- 23:07Speaker 1: release them every single Monday. Next week, as I said earlier,
- 23:10Speaker 1: we have a two part episode coming your way on
- 23:12Speaker 1: Sharon Tate. And again, you're not gonna want to miss
- 23:15Speaker 1: these episodes because they speak directly to the Muma Cass
- 23:17Speaker 1: episodes that are being released in the disgraced Land Feed.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And I don't mean like we're just talking about the
- 23:22Speaker 1: same thing. I mean we produce these in tandem. They're
- 23:26Speaker 1: like a puzzle piece that when you put them together,
- 23:29Speaker 1: all the pieces fit. Okay, you're familiar with the Raschaman effect.
- 23:33Speaker 1: The Raschaman effect describes how parties describe an event in
- 23:37Speaker 1: a different and contradictory manner, which reflects their subjective interpretation
- 23:41Speaker 1: and self interested advocacy rather than an objective truth.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Not how I remember it.
- 23:47Speaker 1: That's what happens in these episodes, except without that fancy
- 23:50Speaker 1: AI definition that I just read you okay, but basically
- 23:53Speaker 1: the Raschamon effect in the Sharontate episodes coming on Monday
- 23:57Speaker 1: in Hollywood Land. Make sure you're subscribed to Hollywood and
- 24:00Speaker 1: then call me six one seven nine oh six six

- 24:08Speaker 1: gmail dot com. Susan Pranato, Pranato? Is that how you
- 24:13Speaker 1: say it? I think so, Pranato, Pernito. That's probably it right, saying, Hey,
- 24:16Speaker 1: our generation, who spoke for our generation? This, of course,
- 24:20Speaker 1: is in response to last week's question of the week.
- 24:23Speaker 1: We're talking about Dylan. We're talking about the voice of
- 24:24Speaker 1: the generation, Susan here. Thanks. Then in the nineteen eighties
- 24:28Speaker 1: it was John Cougar Mellencamp. I know she says it
- 24:31Speaker 1: was oversaturated, but this was the voice of folks in
- 24:34Speaker 1: a small town in the late nineteen eighties, and I
- 24:36Speaker 1: can't argue with you, Susan. I'm from a small town,
- 24:38Speaker 1: but not from one in the Midwest and on the
- 24:41Speaker 1: East Coast, and the koog was ubiquitous for me personally.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I would not call John Cougar Mellencamp the voice of
- 24:48Speaker 1: my generation. But I like to represent as much of
- 24:53Speaker 1: this great country as I can in these responses, and
- 24:56Speaker 1: I appreciate Susan's point of view here, the Midwest point
- 24:59Speaker 1: of view. Thank you, Susan Scracelampod at gmail dot com,
- 25:01Speaker 1: because I want to send me an email six one
- 25:03Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight you want
- 25:05Speaker 1: to send me a voicemail, lead me a text at
- 25:07Speaker 1: Disgrace lampod on the socials and just now realizing I
- 25:09Speaker 1: forgot to do DMS. That's okay. We're going to keep
- 25:11Speaker 1: motoring through here, trying to keep these episodes tight. Matt
- 25:15Speaker 1: Boden is still pissed off at me for making him
- 25:18Speaker 1: mix an hour plus Bob Dylan episode. I think you
- 25:21Speaker 1: guys appreciate the tightness as well. That's the real reason
- 25:24Speaker 1: we want. We want a tight product. Speaking of product,

- 25:46Speaker 1: they help people discover on Apple, Spotify wherever, so go
- 25:49Speaker 1: ahead leave a review, just like Ocean one one eight
- 25:53Speaker 1: five five stars. Ocean one one eight five rights, and
- 25:56Speaker 1: I spent in an entire summer about fifteen years ago
- 25:58Speaker 1: reading memoirs and biograph about dead rock stars. Even once
- 26:02Speaker 1: we'se music, I didn't even listen to. I just like
- 26:04Speaker 1: hearing stories about creatives and the good, the bad, and
- 26:06Speaker 1: the ugly aspects of their lives. And this show captures
- 26:09Speaker 1: my interest with some great storytelling about all the creators
- 26:11Speaker 1: of our generation and the generations before us. Also, I
- 26:14Speaker 1: also love the way Jake says Mellotron, you've got to
- 26:17Speaker 1: Ocean one one eighty five. Thanks for leaving a review
