- 0:28Amen. Open your Bibles.
- 0:29Galatians chapter 6 is where we are.
- 0:33Galatians chapter 6. We're going to look at one verse
- 0:36today and I've entitled our Bible study Helping Restore the
- 0:41Fallen ones. That is the topic helping to
- 0:44restore the fallen ones. Having a heart.
- 0:47I mean, I could go a lot of different directions.
- 0:49Having a heart to restore and reconcile the fallen ones.
- 0:54Having a heart to see people built up in faith, having a
- 0:57heart to talk in the grace of God.
- 1:00That has been the theme of our Bible study in Galatians.
- 1:04That was the issue in the churches throughout the Galatia
- 1:07region. They had left grace and had been
- 1:10ripped off by false teachers and began to relate to God not by
- 1:14what He has done, but what they have done.
- 1:18And they began to work and all this effort and energy in some
- 1:22way trying to earn favor with God, when all the while what
- 1:25saved them was the blood of Jesus Christ Christ.
- 1:29What delivered them from their sinful ways was the blood of
- 1:33Jesus Christ. What made them whole, what made
- 1:36them strong? What started generational
- 1:39change? What delivered them from
- 1:40addiction, what delivered them from all sorts of restrictive
- 1:45behaviors was the grace of God. And guys came in and lied to
- 1:50them, and they believe the lie. And isn't that always the case?
- 1:54When you believe a lie, then you behave based on that belief.
- 2:00And Paul, he takes his quill in hand and he writes them a letter
- 2:04and he says, guys, gals, you can't live that way.
- 2:08Come back to the grace of God, standing in grace, living in
- 2:13grace, walking in grace. That is our relationship with
- 2:17Jesus, and that has been the theme.
- 2:20It's the word of God to us today in the 21st century, but it's
- 2:24also God's word to the ancient churches in the 1st century.
- 2:27It's the grace of God. It's all the grace of God.
- 2:30Which leads us to the question, what is the grace of God?
- 2:34If you're just dropping into this Bible study, maybe you're
- 2:36new to the church. You're just dropping into this
- 2:37study now. You've missed 20 other Bible
- 2:40studies. We've talked about and learn
- 2:43what different definitions of the grace of God throughout our
- 2:46Bible studies, but I want to remind you of a few of them.
- 2:49It'd be really good for you to jot down some notes and maybe a
- 2:51couple phrases stick in your mind.
- 2:53But let me give you a few definitions of what we mean what
- 2:57by when we say the grace of God. Here's the first one.
- 3:01The edifying. Transforming, life giving, life
- 3:06shaping, maturing fruit, bearing favor of God.
- 3:10You go. Wow, that's a long one.
- 3:11Let me repeat it for you a little bit slower.
- 3:15The edifying needs to be built up.
- 3:18The transforming needs to be changed, the life giving.
- 3:22That's the life of Christ, a full life, the life shaping
- 3:28where your life is changed by the favor of God, the maturing
- 3:33growing up, the fruit bearing as we learned of the fruit of the
- 3:36Spirit last time, favor of God. Let me give you another one a
- 3:40little bit simpler. This is a good one.
- 3:42I want you to, I want you to read, I want you to deposit this
- 3:45one. The grace of God can be defined
- 3:47as simply as this, the life of Christ in you, a life of Christ
- 3:53lit in you, Jesus indwelling you by the Holy Spirit, and he lives
- 3:58in you and lives through you. Let me give you another one.
- 4:01We learned this one. It's easy to remember.
- 4:03We actually used the word grace and used the letters to remember
- 4:07a definition of the grace of God.
- 4:09Remember, it's God's riches at Christ's expense.
- 4:14God's riches, all salvation, all that we talk about, it's all
- 4:18that God has given us, but we didn't earn it.
- 4:22God gave it to us because of the sacrifice of Jesus.
- 4:27Here's another one. God's unmerited, unearned,
- 4:31undeserved favor and kindness and gentleness toward us.
- 4:37Here's another one, God showering His love and blessing
- 4:42on you continually, never leaving you, never forsaking
- 4:47you, His ever presence in your life, not because you earned it,
- 4:52but because God loves you. Even though we're not perfect.
- 4:58Can I get an Amen on that? You can just say for yourself,
- 5:01even though we don't have all things together, even though we
- 5:04don't hit the mark every day, God loves us still supremely.
- 5:09You know, the love of God is so powerful for us, such a great
- 5:12motivator, moves us, ministers to us, comforts us.
- 5:16And I think about the love of God and God, he, he doesn't love
- 5:19you any less and he couldn't love you anymore.
- 5:23You have it all, the whole package for the born again
- 5:26believer. And I think about the gracious
- 5:28love of God to those of you that may not have a relationship with
- 5:31God today. He loves you.
- 5:34You know, the Bible says that God loves you so much that he
- 5:39sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever would believe in him
- 5:45would not perish but have everlasting life.
- 5:48I mean, the love of God is a powerful, powerful gift to
- 5:53enjoy. And this is Paul's burden for
- 5:56the believers in Galatia. This is his burden.
- 6:00Guys, you've left grace, you've walked what what has happened
- 6:05has been the theme over and over.
- 6:07You've walked away from grace like John wrote in John 116.
- 6:12He says of his fullness, Jesus, of his fullness.
- 6:17We have all received grace for grace.
- 6:23And today I have the privilege of reminding you do not leave
- 6:27the grace of God and move into an area of a works based, you
- 6:32know, because you use the word relationship and relationship is
- 6:36beautiful. I think of just that one aspect
- 6:38of the relationship we as born again believers have with our
- 6:41Father. He has adopted us.
- 6:44What in the world do you have to do to be a part of the family?
- 6:47Nothing. You just are.
- 6:50When you are adopted, you're in. That's it.
- 6:53There's nothing out. Just be.
- 6:55Just be the son. Just be the daughter.
- 6:58You don't have to earn your adoptive parents.
- 7:00You're real now. They are your parents.
- 7:02You don't have to earn their favor.
- 7:04You don't have to earn their credibility.
- 7:06You don't have to fight. You are adopted.
- 7:08How much more now is an adopted son or daughter of the king?
- 7:13What do I have to do now? Just be, that's it.
- 7:16Just enjoy the Father. Why?
- 7:18Because the Holy Spirit lives in you and will lead you and guide
- 7:22you and enable you. Isn't that what the Bible says
- 7:24in Philippians? That it is God that works in us
- 7:29both to will and to do? And He does.
- 7:33He motivates us and gives us the strength to follow Him in
- 7:37obedience, right? If we love Jesus, we're going to
- 7:39obey Him. And how do we obey Him?
- 7:42By the work of the Spirit in US. It's beautiful.
- 7:45Don't be, you know, for the Galatians, what were they ripped
- 7:48off of? Imagine the message.
- 7:50Imagine what the Galatians heard in the 21st century.
- 7:53These guys come to town and they say, OK, you, you have a
- 7:56relationship. Yeah.
- 7:57So we love God. We love Paul said this.
- 7:59He said the grace of God. He said the sufficiency of
- 8:01Christ. And they say, OK, that's all
- 8:03good. But, you know, you're not really
- 8:04saved until. And here's what the Here's their
- 8:08message. You're not really saved until
- 8:11you're circumcised. Oh.
- 8:14Oh, oh, oh, OK. All right.
- 8:19And really, what they meant by that was that you needed to keep
- 8:23the whole law in order to be saved.
- 8:25But circumcision from the men, you gotta be circumcised.
- 8:28Do you think that would be an effective evangelism strategy
- 8:31today? Hey, welcome to Calvary.
- 8:32We're glad you're here. Everyone now that responds to
- 8:35the gospel right around the prayer room.
- 8:37You can't go to the prayer room first, but next to it we have
- 8:40the circumcision room and we've got plenty of certified doctors
- 8:45back there and P as and nurses and, and as soon as you go
- 8:49through the circumcision process, then you can go to the
- 8:53prayer room. Can you imagine that?
- 8:55You come to service and at the beginning of service we're all
- 8:57gathering, the music's playing, you hear and you're like, that
- 9:03was kind of weird. 5 minutes later and you finally ask
- 9:09somebody, what's that? That's the circumcision.
- 9:12You'll learn sooner what nobody. No, no, you wouldn't do that.
- 9:16But there are other things. Legalistically, you have to do
- 9:20this in order to be saved. You have to do that.
- 9:22It's become so commonplace that the Bible, like the the books of
- 9:27the Bible that speak directly to grace, like Galatians and
- 9:29Hebrews, so important, so important that you don't move
- 9:34off into a place of good works and your own human efforts, but
- 9:38walk in the spirit. Romans chapter 13, verse 14 but
- 9:42put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh.
- 9:50Stay away from the flesh. Don't feed the flesh, don't live
- 9:53in the flesh. The works of the flesh are
- 9:55evident, but rather walk in the spirit and you won't fulfill the
- 10:00lust of the flesh. Memorize those attributes
- 10:03Lovejoy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness,
- 10:09self-control. Against such there is no law.
- 10:13These just flow in your life. There's no restriction on the
- 10:17kindness that God wants in your no restriction on the love or
- 10:21the joy or the gentleness. I want to pause here before we
- 10:27get into the meat of our time together and then have communion
- 10:31to just as a brother, I'm your brother in the Lord.
- 10:35I'm also as a pastor. I want to share with you.
- 10:37I just I considering the world in which we live right now, our
- 10:41world, this generation, we're living in the tensions, the
- 10:44difficulties, the hype, the the horrific events, etcetera.
- 10:50The division, what's happened in the church lately is the church
- 10:55has become very angry, very upset and voicing a voice and
- 11:02culture that's super angry. Now, certainly there's a space
- 11:06for righteous anger and I think where there is, we just don't
- 11:10accept evil and wickedness in the world for sure, but that it
- 11:15has carried over into this super angry fight, like almost a
- 11:20participation the church, and we're talking about the church
- 11:23here, the church participating in the fight.
- 11:28And I'm asking you today to listen to this study with
- 11:32attentive ears. Now I know we typically listen,
- 11:35we take notes, I understand, but we also get into these rhythms
- 11:39in life where we just saw a Bible study, another Bible
- 11:41study, another Bible study, another Bible study, you know,
- 11:43another Bible study, especially in a church like ours, because
- 11:46that's what we do. That's all we have for you is
- 11:49the Word of God. And we're going to teach it
- 11:50verse by verse. Like if you're new to this
- 11:52church, we start in verse one of a book and we work our way
- 11:55through and hopefully before the Lord comes back, we'll finish
- 11:58the whole Bible. There's only a few more books
- 12:00that I have left to teach that we would have finished teaching
- 12:02the whole Bible. So you go Bible study after
- 12:05Bible study. But I'm asking you right now,
- 12:07please listen. Just like Jesus said in the Book
- 12:09of Revelation 7 times he says this, He who has ears, let him
- 12:14hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
- 12:17Because this heart of reconciliation and this heart of
- 12:21restoration is a very powerful tool of God in a very Dark
- 12:27World. And it starts in the church.
- 12:31It actually starts in the church.
- 12:33We get it right among us, and then we become more effective in
- 12:38the reconciling work of God in the world.
- 12:41God is a God of restoration. In the Psalms that are already
- 12:44crying out, restore us, God, we have sinned, restore us, we need
- 12:50you. What's going on in our lives?
- 12:51We're suffering the consequences of our sin.
- 12:54Restore us. And the Bible tells us that
- 12:57we've been given in the New covenant a ministry of
- 13:00reconciliation. And yet there are times where
- 13:05it's not practiced, where it's not lived out.
- 13:09So please have ears. Just listen.
- 13:11Let the Holy Spirit draw out of the few principles that we're
- 13:14going to look at today. Galatians, chapter 6, verse one,
- 13:19brethren, or for some of you, cistern, if a man is overtaken,
- 13:26I think that's a word, by the way, it's not there.
- 13:28But this is for all of us. This is a generic, even though
- 13:32it's in the masking line. It's a generic Greek word for
- 13:35this church. Brethren, brethren, church, if a
- 13:40man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual
- 13:45restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering
- 13:49yourself, lest you also be tempted.
- 13:54A church, walk in the spirit. And as you're walking in the
- 13:59Spirit, be sure to be a tool of God.
- 14:03Be a tool to restore people that have fallen.
- 14:09Restore them. We'll get into the details of
- 14:12that in a little bit, but I do want to share another scripture
- 14:15with you. Would you turn to Proverbs
- 14:16chapter 24? We often refer to this, but I
- 14:19want you to see it in your own Bible or on your phone or your
- 14:21tablet. I want you to see this verse.
- 14:23I want you to mark it because it's so powerful, it's so
- 14:26wonderful, and we use it a lot, but it is a principle throughout
- 14:30the Scriptures. Proverbs chapter 24 verse 16 the
- 14:37Bible declares for a righteous man may fall 7 times and rise
- 14:41again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.
- 14:47Very simply gives us insight that righteous men and women
- 14:50fall. The Old Testament would be the
- 14:54old those following the old covenant.
- 14:56God followers for us as born again believers.
- 14:59We all stumble and fall, some harder than others, but
- 15:03understand a righteous man falls well, I don't know that we
- 15:06necessarily have any need to be convinced of that.
- 15:09However, you may need to be convinced that even though you
- 15:13have fallen, you can rise again. You don't need to stay down 7
- 15:18times. That's a long that's seven.
- 15:20Can you imagine in the in your lifetime 7 significant falls, 7
- 15:25heavy times where you you got knocked down and beat and you
- 15:29got back up. That's what the Bible says
- 15:31though. A man falls 7 times, he rises
- 15:33again. It's those of calamity, those
- 15:35apart from God that have a hard time getting up.
- 15:38A righteous man falls. And we love this truth.
- 15:43I love it. I love to see God pick people up
- 15:46and they get back right. I love to see prodigals come
- 15:49home. I love it.
- 15:50It's a work of God. But that there will be.
- 15:54And I know there are those among me right now among us in the
- 15:56room here watching online, listening live on the radio,
- 15:59maybe down in the overflow, the nursing moms room, wherever you
- 16:03might be that you are this verse.
- 16:05You are the righteous woman, the righteous man.
- 16:08That doesn't mean you're Privy You just you're a Christian that
- 16:10has fallen and you don't believe you're going to get up or you
- 16:14might even think, well, I've already used that chance,
- 16:16pastor. I've already used that chance.
- 16:19So if he gets up, I've already used the seven.
- 16:23But I taught a Bible study and I, I shared it, you know,
- 16:26periodically, but I did a specific study on this.
- 16:29I love the title of that study. I titled it the God of the
- 16:33second chance, Man, God gives second chances.
- 16:38Well, you know, pastor, I've already used the second chance,
- 16:39OK? He's the God of the third chance
- 16:42and the fifth chance and the seventh chance.
- 16:46There, there is an anticipation of God even that he is the God
- 16:50of the 490th chance. You go.
- 16:53Where do you get that from, Ed? Oh, you remember Jesus teaching
- 16:57about forgiveness and what did he say?
- 16:59He said to forgive 70 * 7 And that is not only God's
- 17:06relationship with us, but now even with each other, He's not
- 17:11giving a math lesson there, is he?
- 17:13He's telling us as believers that there's going to be a lot
- 17:15of hurt and pain that you experience that's going to
- 17:19require a restorative heart and a heart to reconcile that you
- 17:24and I, we're going to need to learn to forgive and to forgive.
- 17:29Why? Because of what God has forgiven
- 17:31us. And so when we come to Galatians
- 17:35and we learn, brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass,
- 17:40this happens a lot. This happens a lot, brethren.
- 17:47Anyone among you that's overtaken by any trespass, let's
- 17:51dive into that for a moment. Circle the word overtake.
- 17:54It's a very special word, overtake.
- 17:57It has the idea of being surprised.
- 18:01It has the idea of being shocked or caught.
- 18:05You can even think of you're going along and you're tripped
- 18:07up, but that that overtaken has also the idea that now you're
- 18:13stuck. You got caught in the trap and
- 18:16you're in the trap of a trespass of a sin, he says, hey, if
- 18:22anyone's overtaken and this happens in the body of Christ,
- 18:25you're overtaken. Nobody really, you know, nobody
- 18:30really wants to be caught by sin.
- 18:33Like, no, I haven't met anybody that has woken up in the morning
- 18:37and they're worshiping the Lord. Their hands are in the air.
- 18:39They got their Cheerios, they're heading out to work and, and,
- 18:43and you're, you're in your car, you're letting it warm up and
- 18:45you're like, OK, I just can't wait for the first person to cut
- 18:49me off today because I, I have, I've practiced my finger.
- 18:53I know the words I'm going to use.
- 18:55I even made a sign for them. I am ready.
- 19:01Nobody does that, but there you are.
- 19:05You know how I know I'm following you and you're just
- 19:09driving to work, loving the Lord, enjoying what God has done
- 19:14in your life. And what happens?
- 19:16You do get cut off and there's the finger and there's the Word.
- 19:20Nobody. Nobody plans that.
- 19:26But are you overtaken sometimes? Of course, of course we are.
- 19:33He says, hey, church, people get overtaken by sin.
- 19:38People get overtaken by sin and it's disastrous.
- 19:42This overtaken speaks of something that's not planned,
- 19:45not premeditated, because those type of sins too.
- 19:49But this is not pre. This is like the general thing
- 19:52that we all jump in, we all fall into.
- 19:54We all have this these these issues in our lives, big and
- 19:57small. Some of you here today have been
- 20:01overtaken with a sin. Nobody knows but you.
- 20:06You didn't want it. You didn't invite it, but there
- 20:09you are. And God calls you to repentance.
- 20:14Why? Because he knows you.
- 20:16He cares for you. He cares for your family.
- 20:18He doesn't want you to destroy yourself.
- 20:21He wants to help you. You're not it's, you're not in a
- 20:23hopeless situation. You can come to the cross.
- 20:26You can come back to the Lord. The Bible tells us in John six
- 20:31that anyone that comes to the to anyone that comes to Christ,
- 20:34anyone the Father given me, I will never reject them.
- 20:37Jesus said anyone the Father's given me, just come to him
- 20:42return. He says, brethren, if anyone's
- 20:45overtaking any trespass, you who are spiritual, you who are
- 20:51spiritual. This is a direct reference in
- 20:54context to walking in the Spirit.
- 20:57Paul is not creating a first class, second class, 3rd class
- 21:00Christians here. That's not what he's saying.
- 21:01Some of you are spiritual, some of you are super spiritual, some
- 21:04of you are not. That's not what he's doing.
- 21:05He's taking us back to walking in the spirit.
- 21:07Those of you that have chosen to to die to the flesh, those of
- 21:10you that are dealing with stuff, those of you that are walking in
- 21:13the spirit, you who are spiritual, you don't want to get
- 21:16caught up in works. You don't want to get caught up
- 21:17in all this judgmental pointing fingers.
- 21:20You don't do enough, you're not good enough.
- 21:22You're a horrible crit. Nothing.
- 21:24No, he says stop it back in grace.
- 21:26You walk in the spirit and when you walk in the spirit you see
- 21:29people that are hurting. That's what he's saying.
- 21:33You who are spiritual, you that are in the spirit, you that are
- 21:37walking, you that remember what happened, what legalism did to
- 21:40the church in Galatia. It made him he.
- 21:42They were said stop biting and devouring one another in a
- 21:45church. Stop being conceited and
- 21:48provoking one another because that's what happens with
- 21:51legalism. You got your own little gig
- 21:53going and you're earning your favor with God.
- 21:55And then when somebody doesn't measure up, you start judging
- 21:57them for your family. Who are you?
- 21:58What are you doing? Hey, you know, you're trying to
- 22:00share your heart. Would you pray for me?
- 22:01I had a really bad thing on I-25.
- 22:03I didn't want it. I had, you know, a finger came.
- 22:06I didn't even know I had that finger anymore.
- 22:07I, I haven't seen it in forever. And it came up and I was, you
- 22:10know, stuff in my mind, whatever.
- 22:12And and you're just wanting prayer, but you pray with a
- 22:15legalist and they get all over your case.
- 22:17What kind of Christian are you? How could you do that?
- 22:21Christians don't do that. He's like, bro, trust me, I
- 22:23don't want to do it. I trust me.
- 22:25That's why I'm coming to you to pray for me.
- 22:26I didn't come for you to beat me up.
- 22:29And that happens in churches. Instead of pointing him to the
- 22:31Lord, you point him to your own self and that God's not going to
- 22:34bless that. That's why there's a lot of
- 22:36wounded people in the church or not in the church.
- 22:39They don't come back because they met a person that wasn't
- 22:43walking in the spirit in a church building.
- 22:47And it does happen. We just have to keep our eyes on
- 22:50the Lord. Let me give you another
- 22:53scripture. In Proverbs chapter 24 and verse
- 22:5517, the Bible says do not rejoice when your enemy falls
- 23:01and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles.
- 23:04It requires us to be spiritual to not rejoice.
- 23:08I don't know what it is, but there's something in all of us,
- 23:11like a twisted part of our flesh that takes a little bit of weird
- 23:16joy and seeing someone fall. And you may even have good
- 23:20reasons for, I think in the world that I live in.
- 23:22But we all kind of live in it. You know, some mega pastor is
- 23:25finally exposed for their adultery or something.
- 23:27And then they're, you know, hey, they had to be removed And and
- 23:30now, you know, the it's finally happened.
- 23:33And. And there you are going.
- 23:34Well, yeah, he got it. He deserves it.
- 23:36Yeah. It's good.
- 23:37I'm glad. I'm glad.
- 23:38I'm glad it happened. I'm glad we've known it for a
- 23:41while. And and while it is very good
- 23:46that a sinful, adulterous pastor is not in the pulpit, that is a
- 23:50good thing. It is not good to be happy about
- 23:53it. Like sweet, weird, twisted joy.
- 23:56I, I think of all the pain. I'm not happy about a man that's
- 24:02been exposed as a Sinner. I mean, I am happy that the
- 24:05church will be healthy again. And God reminds me that God
- 24:08takes care of his church. But what about his wife and his
- 24:12kids? What about the tarnished name of
- 24:15Jesus Christ? That's nothing to be happy
- 24:18about. That's nothing to be joyful
- 24:21about. And that all the pain, you know,
- 24:25over the years, God has getting trusted me and given me the the
- 24:28honor of stepping into lives and families of of pastors in
- 24:32particular. It seems to be a flow of
- 24:34ministry for me that of pastors particularly that were exposed
- 24:38for their sin and removed from their position.
- 24:40I'm ministering to one right now.
- 24:42And right when I got back, I reached out to him after my time
- 24:44away just to check in on him and check to see how he's doing.
- 24:47And one of the phrases that he shared in his text was, yeah.
- 24:52And I, it's not completely true, but this is how he feels it
- 24:55because it can't be completely true because I'm in his life.
- 24:57But he wrote in the text, yeah, we have lost all our friends.
- 25:02All our friends have abandoned us.
- 25:06And he's trying to describe everything that was lost because
- 25:09of his sin. Yeah, you're right.
- 25:11You could say. I mean, even inside.
- 25:13Well, it's because of. I know it is, but he's still
- 25:15hurting. God's dealing with him.
- 25:18He's not in the pulpit. We're not.
- 25:20He's not there. But now his wife and his kids
- 25:23And. And so there's something about
- 25:24us. They go, well, pastor, that's
- 25:26not my life. Well, it could be at work, you
- 25:28know, You know how these things happen at work too, where you
- 25:31might be competing for a job with someone and the person
- 25:34you're competing with just isn't faithful.
- 25:36They're just so lazy. They just talk behind the boss's
- 25:38back and they get the job, you know?
- 25:41Oh man, that's even worse. But then finally, after working
- 25:46with their boss for a little while, they're finally see it.
- 25:48And then they get fired. And then where you are.
- 25:50Hey, lunch for everybody, crumble cookies for all.
- 25:58And and while that person may not need to work there, what
- 26:03could happen to them wouldn't have been a better for them to
- 26:06change their behavior because now they have a mark on their
- 26:09record and they might not be able to get another job.
- 26:12Or it's not entirely as good as you think and it just does
- 26:17something in our heart. We have to walk in the spirit.
- 26:19Those things happen. But if you're spiritual, you'll
- 26:23look to pray and to help notice very practical as we wind down
- 26:29here, turn back to Genesis Chapter 9.
- 26:32I want to give you a very biblical, practical illustration
- 26:35of this in our own hearts. It comes to us from the life of
- 26:39Noah and his family, the life of Noah and his family.
- 26:43You know, for many, many days now, after days of tossing and
- 26:48turning on the floodwaters of judgement, Noah and his family
- 26:53have been in the ark. The ark finally rests.
- 26:56And they, Noah and his family come out and they're going to
- 27:00repopulate the earth and they're going to rejoice and they have a
- 27:03newness of life. God's still going to do
- 27:05something. And they're super, super
- 27:07excited. And it seems as if Noah got way
- 27:11too excited. Notice with me Genesis 9, verse
- 27:1420, Noah began to be a farmer and he planted a vineyard and
- 27:20you can just in your mind or write in your Bibles.
- 27:23So far so good. Then he drank of the wine.
- 27:30Uh oh. And was what does your Bible say
- 27:34drunk? Can I just say you'll never get
- 27:36drunk if you don't drink of the vine, you'll never get drunk.
- 27:42And what happens when he gets drunk?
- 27:44He became uncovered in his tent, which again has the picture of a
- 27:53drunken man nakedly dancing or whatever he's doing.
- 27:58He's just being a drunk and he got no clothes on and he's not
- 28:03the man that was in the arc. And we know about Noah.
- 28:08Very humble man, very useful man, very obedient man.
- 28:11Everything about Noah is amazing.
- 28:14And here he is drunk, doing whatever he's doing naked, being
- 28:19a drunken fool. And notice what happens.
- 28:24Noah as he's drunk, Ham, his son, the father of Canaan.
- 28:29See that word? He saw the nakedness of his
- 28:34father. He saw it.
- 28:37Why the works of the flesh are what evidence.
- 28:40He saw it. He saw it.
- 28:43He saw dad, drunken fool in the tent naked, doing whatever he's
- 28:48doing. And there's there's areas here
- 28:51where like he is, he's gaze, he's staring at his dad and what
- 28:56does he do? He went out and told his
- 28:58brothers outside. And that's one option.
- 29:02When you see someone send, you go and tell and you actually
- 29:07make it worse. You gossip and things that the
- 29:11church are known for. Hey, boys.
- 29:13And Can you imagine that conversation?
- 29:15Hey, guys, you won't believe it. Dad is jacked up.
- 29:19You will not believe it. Oh, yeah.
- 29:21Righteous Dad. You know, Dad, that was
- 29:22disciplining us. Dad, that was the righteous.
- 29:25Oh, Mr. Righteous Dad, the one that built the Oh, you won't
- 29:28believe this. He's a drunken fool.
- 29:31You got to come and see this. The brothers, they come notice
- 29:36what it says, but Shem and Jpeth took a garment and put it on
- 29:41their shoulders and went backward and covered the
- 29:45nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away and
- 29:49they did not see their father's nakedness.
- 29:56They don't even have a visual of it, but instead they walk
- 30:00backwards. Cover that up so he can sober
- 30:04up. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
- 30:08It sounds like a New Testament covenant theme throughout the
- 30:12Bible, doesn't You know it? And as soon as I start to say
- 30:15it, you can finish it for me. Love covers a multitude of sins.
- 30:21We see that happening here with the boys.
- 30:24Ham, very, very sinful response. Shem and Japheth, they cover up,
- 30:30wait for dad to sober up, and then they deal with the
- 30:33consequences. So there's always consequences,
- 30:36but they didn't make it worse, they made it better.
- 30:39They took a really bad situation and set the table for helping to
- 30:44do what Galatians says, restore back in.
- 30:47Galatians restore these boys, they're, they're spiritual.
- 30:50They're men, by the way. They're spiritual, and they're
- 30:53restoring one in a spirit of gentleness.
- 30:58It doesn't. Covering sin doesn't mean we
- 31:00excuse it. It doesn't mean we ignore it.
- 31:02It doesn't mean we don't pay attention to it.
- 31:05But when you cover sin, you walk in forgiveness, you work things
- 31:09out, you lead someone to repentance, you help someone see
- 31:13the love of God so that we can do things right.
- 31:16That word restore again, if you like to write in your Bibles, it
- 31:19means to set a broken bone. That's the word that was often
- 31:22used in the medical community to set a broken bone because sin
- 31:26shatters and breaks and how important it is.
- 31:29We need to help someone when sin has shattered their life.
- 31:33Then he says, considering yourself, lest you also be
- 31:37tempted like we don't go in and and all pridefully and I can't
- 31:41believe you did this and you'll know it's not that at all when
- 31:44you're spiritually like, oh, hey, you know, there's a phrase
- 31:47I I'm sure you've had many of you have adopted it.
- 31:49If you haven't, you've heard it. It's like go something like this
- 31:52there, but by the grace of God I go or something like that.
- 31:56There go I except by the grace of like, if it wasn't for the
- 31:59grace of God, I'd be destroyed. If it wasn't for the grace of
- 32:02God, I'd be lost. If it wasn't for the grace of
- 32:05God, I'd be caught up. But because of God's so
- 32:08goodness, I'm so grateful I didn't get caught up in that.
- 32:11But you did. And when I step in to serve you,
- 32:15I need to be careful to know that I also am susceptible to
- 32:18sin, and I could fall and the tables could be turned
- 32:23immediately if I don't acknowledge the power of God in
- 32:28my life. So if you're spiritual, you'll
- 32:30seek to restore, but if you're carnal and fleshly, you'll seek
- 32:34to reveal. The legalist can't wait to point
- 32:36out fault flaws and failures in others because it always makes
- 32:39them look better. It always puffs them up in
- 32:42pride. But bear there, by the grace of
- 32:44God, there go I, and we walk in gentleness, spiritually and
- 32:53cautiously. We step into difficulties
- 32:56prayerfully and carefully. One of the principles I like to
- 33:01share with the leaders here, the pastors, the wives, those that
- 33:03serve you come to a huddle. It might be one of our what I
- 33:07share in teaching us and what I what I just what I want us to
- 33:11learn. I'm going to all of us as a
- 33:12church. I want you to learn this grasp.
- 33:14It's so important. I always like to run.
- 33:17I always want to be reminded and remind those that serve here
- 33:21that when you're sitting with someone that has a destroyed
- 33:23life, what's in front of you is a person.
- 33:31It's a person who's very loved as a family.
- 33:34It's a person. You're dealing with the problem.
- 33:37You have a problem in front of you.
- 33:38You're not dealing with the problem.
- 33:40You're ministering to a person. You have a broken marriage
- 33:44there. It's not a broken marriage.
- 33:46It's too hurting people. You have an addiction, drugs
- 33:51all, it's not the drugs and the addiction, it's a person.
- 33:57And when you remember it's a person creating the image of
- 34:00God. So often a person that's been
- 34:02born again by the blood of it's a person, it's a person and ask
- 34:07servants of the Lord, we that serve those that are broken, we
- 34:11are all people. So it's a person serving a
- 34:16person, a person in a position of leadership has a
- 34:19responsibility to church is not above the people doesn't make
- 34:23you better. If you're if you're not
- 34:24struggling with sin right now and overtaken, but you're
- 34:26ministering to someone else, you're not better than them.
- 34:29You're just in a different space.
- 34:32You're a people too. I'm a people too.
- 34:34And God has reserved through the power of the Holy Spirit to use
- 34:37people to reach people. And if you forget that and you
- 34:40think you're just solving problems, you're not going to be
- 34:43very good at it. And if you forget that and
- 34:44you're just fixing marriages, you're not going to be very
- 34:47affected of that because God doesn't want you to solve
- 34:49problems and he doesn't want you to fix marriages.
- 34:51He wants you to help people get their eyes back on the Lord.
- 34:54He wants you to help people see the love of God, the hope of
- 34:57God, the restorative work of God.
- 35:00God loves to restore. He loves to rebuild.
- 35:04He loves to use us to help each other get right with the Lord.
- 35:10And so, Father, I thank you for the power of your Holy Spirit
- 35:13among us that we might be in Your hands to be used in helping
- 35:20others get through their stuff. If anyone's overtaken, we want
- 35:24to restore them. Lord, I know some listening that
- 35:27that's something that you just like.
- 35:30It's really hidden deep because they haven't always wanted to
- 35:33restore, but you're doing something new in them.
- 35:35So stir it up Lord, ban the flames, use them in great ways
- 35:43and others. I know some of you as we're
- 35:45praying church, keep praying, but some of you are here today
- 35:48and you've never repented of your sin.
- 35:50You've never turned away from sin and chosen to follow Christ.
- 35:54There's a lot of ways to say that, but like you just you've
- 35:57never really surrendered your life to God.
- 35:59And I want to give you the chance to do that today.
- 36:01If you're here and you say pastor, that's my that you
- 36:03describe my life. I need God in my life.
- 36:08I want to follow him. If that's you, would you just
- 36:11stand to your feet because I want to pray with you and pray
- 36:13for you just everywhere in the room here.
- 36:15If today is the day that you choose to follow Christ, I want
- 36:19to help you. God bless you there.
- 36:21I want to help you do it. I know there are more and
- 36:26there's just this fighting battle and you don't need to
- 36:28fight anymore. You can just wave the right
- 36:31white flag, right? And just like, hey, let's
- 36:32surrender, just choose to follow the Lord today.
- 36:36Remove, respond to the prompting of your spirit right now.
- 36:39God's, you're feeling something. That's God.
- 36:42It's not a man, not my voice, not the room, not the music,
- 36:45it's God. It's God.
- 36:47He's speaking to you, ministering to you.
- 36:50So today, if you want to be born again, today's the day.
- 36:54God bless you. Who else would say?
- 36:56And you guys outlaw online and outside of the building.
- 36:59God sees you downstairs. There are those there to help
- 37:03you and let's just like choose to turn away from sin.
- 37:07There's a Bible word for that. It's repent, turn away from sin,
- 37:11Follow Jesus. So many of us have already the
- 37:15work of God. God bless you guys in the back.
- 37:17I see you. And even if I don't see you,
- 37:18don't worry about it. God sees you and the pastors and
- 37:21leaders are going around to stand with you because that's
- 37:23our way of making sure you don't fall through the cracks.
- 37:25So don't be uncomfortable. It's like the first connection
- 37:28point with godly loving believers.
- 37:31Just to let you know you're welcome.
- 37:32Because I know when I got saved, I just didn't really believe
- 37:34that God could save me. And it was good that there were
- 37:37people in my life to tell me, no, it's OK, God is in your
- 37:41life. I say yes.
- 37:44Last night I felt a burden. Now as we're praying, I felt a
- 37:47burden to call out anyone that really needs to make a
- 37:51rededication. I don't do that very often
- 37:53because as a pastor, I don't want to teach you rededicate
- 37:56sin, rededicate sin. I don't want, I want you to just
- 38:00go for it. But I know there are times in a
- 38:02message like this, if we're talking about the fallen and
- 38:05we're talking about those overtaken and we're talking,
- 38:07well, I want to give you a chance as well.
- 38:10If you, if you just sense in your heart of hearts that you
- 38:12want to publicly rededicate your life to the Lord, just like
- 38:16deep, deep stuff, I want for you to stand as well because I want
- 38:19you to be acknowledged and I want, we want to pray for you.
- 38:21So you just like a real deep rededication.
- 38:25Like yes, I haven't been where I need to be.
- 38:27I haven't been my eyes, my ears, my life, my marriage, my kid.
- 38:31I just need to rededicate myself to or if that's you, I want you
- 38:34to respond. Would you please, let's just do
- 38:37it. No more pride, no more
- 38:39resistance, no more, no more of the well, you know what it is.
- 38:44I don't need to, you know, God knows and he loves you.
- 38:49These are the days pressing in, pressing in.
- 38:53This is the culture that needs the church, that needs the
- 38:57church to be the church and we will and the power of the Holy
- 39:02Spirit. So let me pray for you and I'll
- 39:04separate it in a minute. But Lord, I just pray for those
- 39:07rededicating. We love them.
- 39:09There's more of them than we have people to stand with them.
- 39:12So bless them. Pour out your Spirit upon them.
- 39:15Let today be a turning point. Let it be another date that they
- 39:19write down to say I was saved on this day and I had all these
- 39:23other things. But then today on October 5th,
- 39:262025 was my rededication day and just no more looking back but
- 39:34looking forward. Bless some men and women, boys
- 39:37and girls and those that are praying to receive the Lord for
- 39:41the first time. Pray with me because the Bible
- 39:43says you can confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe
- 39:45in your heart. God raised him from the dead.
- 39:47So you could say something like this.
- 39:48God, I come to you today and I want to be forgiven.
- 39:54I believe in Jesus who died for me and rose again from the dead.
- 40:01And I choose to follow him today.
- 40:04I repent, turn away from my sin, and I choose to follow you.
- 40:10Take my life and use it. And for all that are responding
- 40:16near and far, let our hearts rejoice that you are moving
- 40:20among us and that lives and families are being changed.
- 40:23Father in Jesus name, Amen. Amen.
- 40:27Yes, so good. Yes.
