Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Nobody intends to kill their big dream.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: After all, our dreams are what keep us going.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: We think about them day and night.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: We plan our future around them.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We nurture them with books, movies, and other content that keeps the dream alive.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: But inevitably, sometimes we kill the dream.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Well, how does this happen?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: The comedian and game show host Steve Harvey tells us how.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: He said this if you want to kill a big dream, tell it to a small-minded person.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: In our excitement, we sometimes share our dream with people who don't want to hear it.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: If you want to be a best-selling author and you tell your dream to somebody who doesn't think it's possible, they will inevitably wound your dream.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: They'll say you shouldn't put those ridiculous notions in your head.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: They'll say your plans won't work.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: They'll say you should be more realistic.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And pretty soon, if you tell enough of these people about your dream, it will die a slow death.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: So reserve your dream for people who support you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Those people will not only listen to your dream, they'll also help you achieve it.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Your dream is a living, breathing thing, and it must be nurtured and cared for by people who want to see it grow.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And when those small-minded people ask what you're working on, you can just be vague or only share a bit of your dream with them.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: They're not bad people.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: It's just that their dreams have already died, and they don't have the ability to help yours grow.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
