- 0:02Speaker 1: So I am Andrew Simon fillingate for Craig Way the
- 0:06Speaker 1: last day the Philly in He is in. That's right,
- 0:10Speaker 1: six man from San Antonio, the all spot to match
- 0:14Speaker 1: Craig webs to be joining the program here in about
- 0:16Speaker 1: seventeen minutes, three seventeen Synchronize your watches to the kid's.
- 0:21Speaker 2: He will be joining the program.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Give us a update on Texas men's basketball from the
- 0:26Speaker 1: Big Apple as they take on Saint Joseph's tonight eight
- 0:29Speaker 1: thirty tip off right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 0:32Speaker 1: hundred zone. He will also give us an idea about
- 0:35Speaker 1: Texas and Kentucky. We've been talking about it all week.
- 0:38Speaker 1: It's the final regular season home game for the Texas Longhorns,
- 0:42Speaker 1: as we hope. It's one of those questions, now, do
- 0:45Speaker 1: you want the rest or, do you want the buye
- 0:50Speaker 1: with the rest or? Do you want to just play
- 0:51Speaker 1: a home playoff game? And we'll get back to that
- 0:54Speaker 1: here in a moment. Other news in news, going on,
- 0:59Speaker 1: other news, enough views. Daniel Jones cut from the New
- 1:03Speaker 1: York Giants. It does not come as a surprise to
- 1:05Speaker 1: many that he will not be the starting quarterback for
- 1:07Speaker 1: the Giants going up the rest of the season. It
- 1:10Speaker 1: is a surprise that they decided to cut him. He
- 1:13Speaker 1: has one of the best jobs available right now. I
- 1:16Speaker 1: don't think that he gets another opportunity to be about
- 1:19Speaker 1: twelve million dollars that they'd have to pay Daniel Jones
- 1:21Speaker 1: if you want him on your roster. I don't think
- 1:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of teams in the NFL who are
- 1:26Speaker 1: jonesing for some Daniel Jones.
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's a good one. I just think that's a that's
- 1:32Speaker 2: a solid one.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I was trying to get our board up Ronaldo to
- 1:35Speaker 1: give me anything and nothing, no laugh or anything.
- 1:38Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So I don't think that anybody's gonna be going after
- 1:43Speaker 1: Daniel Jones in the offseason. I don't imagine that his
- 1:46Speaker 1: career goes very far from here. He asked to be cut,
- 1:51Speaker 1: he asked to be let go released from the Giants
- 1:54Speaker 1: after he got moved to fourth string. And I do
- 1:57Speaker 1: think that the news yesterday that he was playing did
- 2:01Speaker 1: not help the outward view of Daniel Jones. A lot
- 2:05Speaker 1: of people are clowning him for his goodbye speech. He
- 2:09Speaker 1: gave a speech seven games left in the season, but
- 2:11Speaker 1: he gave a speech about how you know, hey, I
- 2:13Speaker 1: gave all my heart and stuff to the Giants organization.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I really wanted to win some games here. I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: think he goes down as the worst quarterback in the
- 2:21Speaker 1: history of a New York Giants football. However, he probably
- 2:24Speaker 1: goes down as one of the most disappointing contracts in
- 2:28Speaker 1: NFL history, if you can believe that. So let's get
- 2:31Speaker 1: into it, because, like I said, the Texas Longhorns have
- 2:35Speaker 1: a chance this weekend to put the hay in the barn,
- 2:38Speaker 1: to get the job done. To win this weekend means
- 2:42Speaker 1: you own your destiny when you take on Texas A
- 2:45Speaker 1: and M next week. If A and M gets a
- 2:47Speaker 1: job done against Auburn, you have two teams who potentially
- 2:52Speaker 1: the winner of that game will get a bye if
- 2:55Speaker 1: you win the SEC championship. So if your Texas got
- 2:57Speaker 1: to win two more games. But it was very interesting
- 2:59Speaker 1: in conversation happened earlier today on the Pat McAfee show.
- 3:02Speaker 1: They are on location for Indiana Ohio State. Pat McAfee
- 3:06Speaker 1: has legendary head coach Nick saban On and they were
- 3:09Speaker 1: debating a topic that we've been debating here for a while,
- 3:14Speaker 1: and that is would you rather have the buy or
- 3:17Speaker 1: the home field advantage.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Would you rather have a buy or would you rather
- 3:21Speaker 3: have home field advantage? I mean, now, you would rather
- 3:24Speaker 3: have home field advantage?
- 3:25Speaker 2: I think right, I would.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yes, I'd definitely rather have home field advantage and play
- 3:28Speaker 3: a game at home than having to buy, because you
- 3:31Speaker 3: have time at that point in the season to recover anyway.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So is it an advantage to have more weeks off
- 3:37Speaker 3: and try to get into the game, or play more
- 3:39Speaker 3: in a rhythm and go ahead and play and have
- 3:42Speaker 3: a home field game?
- 3:43Speaker 1: So I love Nick Saban's idea here where he's saying, like, hey,
- 3:47Speaker 1: you know, I'd rather play another game than have the rest.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I have to imagine that this is coming from a
- 3:57Speaker 1: spot of.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Nick Saban. He's a judge genius. He's the best college
- 4:05Speaker 2: football coach. Maybe.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Ever, what do you mean you'd rather play the extra
- 4:10Speaker 1: game in any other sport? I'd understand, basketball, baseball, I'd understand. Okay, Hey,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I want to keep the guys in the rhythm. I
- 4:17Speaker 1: want to keep playing this extra game. But every single
- 4:21Speaker 1: snap there's a collision. It does not matter if it
- 4:25Speaker 1: is a small collision in the offensive defensive line, hitting
- 4:28Speaker 1: heads against each other padding up, or if it's a
- 4:31Speaker 1: big collision, so wide receiver going across the middle of
- 4:33Speaker 1: the field getting lit up by a safety. Every single
- 4:36Speaker 1: snap in the NFL, there is a collision. Every single
- 4:40Speaker 1: snap in college football, there's a collision. Why are you
- 4:45Speaker 1: wanting more of those? Julian Edelman said it best. Former
- 4:49Speaker 1: NFL A Pro Bowl receiver Super Bowl MVP said it best.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Every single Sunday I came off the field that was
- 4:57Speaker 1: in multiple car crashes. That's how my body else. Why
- 5:01Speaker 1: would you want a whole game of that? And it's
- 5:05Speaker 1: very easy I think for Nick Saban, who's a head
- 5:08Speaker 1: football coach, and for Pat McAfee, who is a punter,
- 5:11Speaker 1: to say, oh, yeah, I know, we'd love to play
- 5:13Speaker 1: another game.
- 5:14Speaker 2: We'd love to have No.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I think the only people who want that home playoff
- 5:20Speaker 1: game are, of course teams like Boise State. You'd want
- 5:24Speaker 1: to have a home playoff game. I think teams that
- 5:26Speaker 1: have awful weather, the Big Ten schools like Penn State,
- 5:30Speaker 1: Ohio State, Indiana.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Who you have an idea?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Did you see the game Thursday night in Cleveland, Ohio
- 5:35Speaker 1: for the Browns game. It's kind of nasty already in
- 5:38Speaker 1: the Midwest. I think those teams, Yeah, a home playoff game,
- 5:41Speaker 1: That's not the end of the world for us, but
- 5:44Speaker 1: the rest of us, Like, if I'm an SEC school,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I want a home playoff game. All I'm asking for
- 5:49Speaker 1: at that point is just to get one of my
- 5:51Speaker 1: guys hurt. And you go through the list of teams
- 5:54Speaker 1: who potentially could have a home playoff game. So currently
- 5:58Speaker 1: the teams with a bye would be Oregon, Texas, Miami,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and Boise State teams that would be hosting playoff games potentially. Again,
- 6:07Speaker 1: this is how the it is right now in the
- 6:09Speaker 1: bracket Ohio State, Penn State out or Notre Dame and Indiana.
- 6:16Speaker 1: That's not to say that things could change. That's not
- 6:19Speaker 1: to say that Georgia or Ohio or Old Miss or
- 6:22Speaker 1: Alabama could end up hosting one of these playoff games.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But why would I want to play that extra game
- 6:28Speaker 1: if I was any of these teams, And especially when
- 6:30Speaker 1: you again, I look at a team like Old Miss
- 6:34Speaker 1: with Jackson Dart who has had to be helped off
- 6:36Speaker 1: the field in that Georgia game. He was able to
- 6:38Speaker 1: come back and play well after that injury, But why
- 6:42Speaker 1: do I want to risk my quarterback, my five star guy,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the guy who if the game goes one where it's
- 6:49Speaker 1: on his shoulders, Why would I ever want to put
- 6:53Speaker 1: him in a position where he could get hurt worse?
- 6:57Speaker 2: To me, it doesn't make any sense. Now.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I understand Nick Saban saying, Hey, that's time of the season.
- 7:01Speaker 1: There's gonna be a week, two weeks maybe in between
- 7:03Speaker 1: some of these games. You're gonna have a couple of
- 7:05Speaker 1: weeks after the end of the championship games, before these
- 7:09Speaker 1: first games are even played, to get healthy. I totally
- 7:12Speaker 1: understand that, But are we seriously asking for more? Are
- 7:17Speaker 1: we asking for more football on these kids' bodies? I
- 7:21Speaker 1: had that problem when we expanded the playoffs, that we
- 7:24Speaker 1: were gonna add another game to the schedule.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I just think about.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It and the long term, in the long run, I
- 7:31Speaker 1: had a really smart football guy tell me one time,
- 7:33Speaker 1: for running backs in particular, that there is a shelf
- 7:36Speaker 1: life for how many hits of running back can take.
- 7:39Speaker 1: That you don't really know what the the old.
- 7:43Speaker 2: How many hits you can take.
- 7:44Speaker 1: You don't know that number per se, but you know
- 7:48Speaker 1: that there is a finite amount of hits that a
- 7:50Speaker 1: running back can take.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I feel that way about every position. What are we doing?
- 7:54Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like a very smart take from one
- 7:58Speaker 1: Nick Saban. And the other thing is when you go
- 8:01Speaker 1: through the sear they go through the college football slate
- 8:04Speaker 1: this weekend, there's one game in particular that matters more
- 8:08Speaker 1: than the rest of them. Yes, teams like Texas and
- 8:12Speaker 1: Texas A and M have to do a good job
- 8:14Speaker 1: against games like Kentucky and do job do well against
- 8:18Speaker 1: teams like Aliburn. But I look at the number one
- 8:21Speaker 1: game this week, and it's that stupid noon kickoff on
- 8:26Speaker 1: Fox that they're ruining college football with. It's number five Indiana,
- 8:29Speaker 1: number two Ohio State. It's a ten to zero Indiana team,
- 8:34Speaker 1: a nine to one Ohio State team. The winner of
- 8:36Speaker 1: that game. It's almost like a loser leaves town game
- 8:41Speaker 1: between these two teams. And it stinks that it's kind
- 8:44Speaker 1: of this late in the season for both those guys,
- 8:46Speaker 1: because you're not gonna be able to recover if you
- 8:48Speaker 1: lose this game. But if Ohio State loses this game,
- 8:51Speaker 1: they might fall to eleven or twelve in the college
- 8:54Speaker 1: football playoffs. But at the same time, as a fan,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I love every minute of it all right, So when
- 9:00Speaker 1: we come back. Craigway joins us from Brooklyn. Brooklyn, we
- 9:04Speaker 1: go hard. Texas basketball went hard yesterday a big win
- 9:08Speaker 1: against Syracuse. They're gonna try to put two in a
- 9:11Speaker 1: row tonight as a take on Saint Joseph's. That game
- 9:13Speaker 1: eight thirty pm. Tip right here on sports Radio AM
- 9:15Speaker 1: thirteen hundred Zone. Craig Wait joins us next. Andrews im
