Transcript
- 0:02Hello everyone, and welcome to the Random Heathen Ramblings
- 0:04podcast, where we discuss all sorts of things Germanic
- 0:07Heathenry related. My name is Jesse and I'm your
- 0:10host. Let's get into it.
- 0:37Delicious and nutritious tastes just like whiskey.
- 0:41Because that's what we're drinking tonight, folks.
- 0:43Here on the 2nd to last episode of season four of the Random
- 0:48Heathen Ramblings Podcast. Thank you, thank you, thank you
- 0:52so much. I hope I didn't blow your
- 0:53eardrums out when I just yelled into the microphone.
- 0:57Shouted from the podcast Rooftops.
- 1:01My thanks and appreciation for all of your support this year.
- 1:06You guys have been great. It's been an interesting year,
- 1:09I'll put it that way. You know, for the podcast
- 1:11there's been a lot of changes that have taken place.
- 1:15If you guys are still listening to this and you've always
- 1:17listened to it and you've never watched the show, then not much
- 1:21has really changed for you, I don't think.
- 1:23But a lot of stuff has changed for me, you know, in the kind of
- 1:28behind the scenes as it were with the podcast.
- 1:31You know, we only do the videos now on Patreon, which to my
- 1:36everybody that pledges their support on Patreon at just the
- 1:41minimum dollar amount, thank you guys so much for helping.
- 1:45Allow me allowing me to to continue doing these video
- 1:48podcasts in this way. It's been a year of discovery.
- 1:52It's been a year of learning. You know, we're going to be
- 1:54recapping a lot of things I think here in the next week or
- 1:57two with regards to the year. I'm, I'm sure this is, you know,
- 2:01not something that or this is something that I'm sure a lot of
- 2:04you is. You know, you get into that
- 2:06mindset, you know, you start reflecting, you start looking
- 2:08back everything that you've done, what you want to do, what
- 2:11you are doing. And it's no different.
- 2:14You know, I'm no different than a lot of folks with with regards
- 2:18to that, of course. So but thank you, Thank you
- 2:21especially to my Chieftain tier and above patrons on Patreon.
- 2:26You guys are willing and and able to pledge that added
- 2:30support. I do want to make mention to you
- 2:33real quick that starting in 2024 the monthly room draws are going
- 2:38to happen on a little bit of a different cycle in the past I've
- 2:44I've well in in in the recent past.
- 2:49You know, if you've been pledging your support at that at
- 2:51that tier, then you know you would get, you would get your
- 2:56your rune polls from me emailed to you a month after I would
- 3:01draw them. So in other words, if it was,
- 3:03you know, December's rune draw, I would send it to you in
- 3:05January, that sort of thing. I'm going to be doing something
- 3:08a bit different going forward. So for those of you who did
- 3:11receive November's Rune poll earlier this earlier this month,
- 3:18I am going to be sending you December's Rune poll at the end
- 3:22of this month and going forward in 2024.
- 3:27You will receive your month's rune poll at the beginning of
- 3:30the month. You know.
- 3:34So if you are pledging your support at the Chieftain tier or
- 3:40above, and you know with that comes the the monthly rune draw,
- 3:47you know I will. I will be sending you your Rune
- 3:50polls after your payments are remitted essentially.
- 3:54OK. So I think it's usually around
- 3:58the 1st of the month, you know. So you know within the first
- 4:02week of each month you'll be getting your your monthly room
- 4:05draws. So if you want to keep getting
- 4:08them, make sure that you're up, up, on the up and up with all of
- 4:10that. And then starting in January of
- 4:132024, you will be getting your monthly room polls at the
- 4:17beginning of each month. So December's room poll will be
- 4:19coming at the end of December and then starting in January, at
- 4:23the beginning of January within the first week or so of January,
- 4:27you will be receiving your your room pools for that month and we
- 4:30will continue that fashion going forward.
- 4:32I think it's probably better that way.
- 4:34I mean thinking about it like you know your room pool for the
- 4:37month behind you is I don't know.
- 4:43Anyways that's the plan. I hope you guys don't mind and
- 4:46aside from that, you know with the last couple of weeks left of
- 4:49the month coming up here, I do want to remind you folks out
- 4:54here that if you need or want to get some last minute shopping
- 4:58done and support the podcast, support what I do remember that

- 5:49support the podcast So again that is Midgard Musings
- 5:52store.com. Use promo code Yule 23 at
- 5:57checkout. So what are we talking about
- 6:03today guys and gals and and non binary folks and children and
- 6:08and pets and seen and unseen creatures in all the 9 realms we
- 6:12are talking today about? What do you do once you're a
- 6:16heathen. This is not going to be a how to
- 6:22heathen 101 sort of thing and you know or how to do basic
- 6:25rituals or whatever but it's what do you do once you have
- 6:28have kind of identified yourself as a heathen and what does even
- 6:32that mean and and all that. Now this may seem basic or
- 6:35rudimentary or you know pointless maybe to some.
- 6:39But no, there was there was something that I've I've
- 6:42recently gotten into listening to.
- 6:45Well, he's recently started putting more content out, which
- 6:47I find really interesting, really cool.
- 6:51I love his twist on things and I love his presentation of it and
- 6:54I think I would like to get him here on the podcast in season
- 6:58five. I know we've talked around it a
- 7:00little bit, but in terms of just the kind of guy that he is, I
- 7:07think it would be a really fun episode to just wrap back and
- 7:10forth with. But on social media and I I know
- 7:13he's on Tiktok, I know he's got a Facebook page.
- 7:18If he's got anything else, I'll be sure to link it in the
- 7:20description or in the show notes.
- 7:22If you guys are listening. He's known as the heathen nerd
- 7:26or heathen nerd. And like I said, he's got
- 7:30Facebook, he's got Tiktok, might even have a YouTube channel.
- 7:35But again whatever social links he has will be linked down in
- 7:39the show notes or in the description of this video.
- 7:41So you know check those out for you to see and hear more.
- 7:46But some of what his content has recently been around is kind of
- 7:51this you know. So you know you're you're you're
- 7:53you're Norse Pagan now and well so here's here are the different
- 7:56phases of of your journey and and his his whole delivery of
- 7:59it. We're going to be watching
- 8:00something here today. For those of you listening,
- 8:02you'll be hearing it. But for everybody here on the
- 8:05video platform on on Patreon, you guys will be watching it
- 8:08with me and I'm going to kind of just react a little bit along
- 8:10the way, you know the three phases of your Norse Pagan
- 8:16journey and then so forth. But as you saw from like the
- 8:19thumbnail and and kind of the title of this title of this
- 8:23podcast, it was I wanted to talk a bit around some of the things
- 8:27that he is going over in his videos.
- 8:31I think the one that we're going to be watching today is is like
- 8:347 or 8 minutes long, something like that.
- 8:36And there are certain things about this, that things that he
- 8:40says that I want to kind of touch on a bit more expand on.
- 8:43And interestingly what what these videos have have come out
- 8:51as are. I don't want to say the result
- 8:53of contacting me, but I know he has sent me some videos before
- 9:00publishing them and asking me my opinions, my thoughts, you know,
- 9:03hey, do you think this is off track, do you think you know,
- 9:07you know, do you want to weigh in on any of this?
- 9:08Right. And I'm like, man, you know, I
- 9:10think this is great. It's it's some of it's really
- 9:12funny, you know, and and and but I think it's overall just a
- 9:16really good summary or a good breakdown of the various phases
- 9:20of our journey that we find ourselves in as Norris Pagans.
- 9:23And you yourself may be listening or watching to this
- 9:25video now whether you are a phase one and Pagan or phase two
- 9:30or phase three right various stages of the game you'll
- 9:34probably like I have with with what we're going to be listening
- 9:37and watching you'll probably find yourself relating to the
- 9:42stuff that that this dude's talking about.
- 9:45So his name is Justin we'll just keep it on a first name basis.
- 9:48So shout out to Justin of heathen of heathen nerd or he is
- 9:53the heathen nerd. He he does comics you know he he
- 9:56does his own art and and and puts a really fun and kind of
- 10:00thought stimulating twist to his content.
- 10:04So be sure to check him out in his social links that I'm going
- 10:07to have link down below or over here or there wherever you find
- 10:10it And yeah let's let's let's kind of dive into some of the
- 10:15things about being a heathen. I know the term heathen gets
- 10:19used, you know, pretty loosely and and and pretty freely as the
- 10:26term to describe Germanic pagans, right?
- 10:30Those folks who have adopted A polytheistic view of the world
- 10:38or or or adopted polytheism into their life and have focused
- 10:43their attention on the Germanic or Norse gods and goddesses,
- 10:46right? But there's more to there's more
- 10:50to it than just that. You know Heathen being kind of
- 10:53this umbrella term that kind of goes over an even bigger
- 10:58umbrella or smaller umbrella. I don't know the the the the
- 11:01scale of how it goes. You know what I mean?
- 11:03Heathens are pagans, not all pagans are heathens.
- 11:06So if you want to consider paganism as this big umbrella
- 11:11Heathen is you need a a another umbrella over that umbrella that
- 11:16probably smaller. Yeah well definitely smaller.
- 11:19That kind of encompasses a an an even smaller demographic or an
- 11:24even smaller group of of pagans. And not all heathens have the
- 11:33same worldviews. You know, there's, you know if
- 11:39you're if you're a mainland continental, more along the
- 11:42lines of what would be considered like a Saxon Heathen.
- 11:45You know your worldviews are going to vary slightly.
- 11:49Probably you're going to have different names for things then,
- 11:51let's say those who might be considered or who might identify
- 11:55or call themselves or be known as Norse Pagan, right.
- 12:00The Icelandic model, the the the Scandinavian variety, the
- 12:04Scandinavian version of of of heathen ring.
- 12:10Those beliefs or those names of gods, goddesses, deities,
- 12:15whites, vaitier. What have you those various
- 12:19names that that come up in various sources from further
- 12:23north than the southern continental Germanic lands where
- 12:27these beliefs sort of originated from.
- 12:29So again you you kind of can see how this structure of
- 12:37polytheism. Right and and and paganism as
- 12:41Germanic paganism Germanic heathenry kind of has different
- 12:47sects right SECTS and different hearts and sects might be a bad
- 12:55terminology form but terminology for it.
- 12:58But we're going to go with it. So yeah we're going to talk
- 13:02about you know what does it mean to be heathen if if you're not
- 13:07thinking in certain ways can you call yourself a heathen?
- 13:09If you don't believe in certain things can you call yourself a
- 13:12heathen and still you know. Now I'm going to also preface
- 13:18all of this, what I'm saying by saying that, you know, before we
- 13:22get into the discussion, the, you know, the review of of
- 13:26Justin's videos and stuff, you know, before I get into all
- 13:28this, don't don't get me wrong here.
- 13:30Don't. Don't think that out of all the
- 13:32years, out of all the time, months, whatever that you spent
- 13:35listening and watching my content, that now all of a
- 13:37sudden I'm saying that you know the titles matter, the names
- 13:41matter, the this thing that all that matters.
- 13:44It it, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, right?
- 13:47If you want to call yourself a heathen and you don't have all
- 13:52of the worldviews that go along with it, I'm not going to be the
- 13:55one to sit back here and and judge you or or or or have any
- 14:00disdain for you. But like some of the things that
- 14:03we're going to be hearing from Justin's video today, be
- 14:06prepared for some backlash from people in the community, OK,
- 14:12that are going to have something to say about you calling
- 14:15yourself or appropriating a title or a name or whatever the
- 14:18case may be, right? If you're not 100% thinking the
- 14:22way they think or or whatever. I'm not like that.
- 14:27I've done, I've done videos before where I'm like, am I even
- 14:29a Norse Pagan, right? I have very animistic views of
- 14:34the world. You know not everything that I
- 14:39don't you know not everything that I believe in on a
- 14:42day-to-day basis would probably fall under this the the the
- 14:46strict I want to say strict but you know the because it is it's
- 14:53it's a bit more fluid than you know dogmatic religions like
- 14:58Christianity, Islam, Judaism, stuff like that.
- 15:01But I mean what I'm saying is it's like it is is just because
- 15:03I don't follow everything 100% to AT as a traditional Germanic
- 15:09Heathens worldview would be does that make me incapable are
- 15:13unable to use the term heathen to describe my belief or or
- 15:17religiosity or faith or whatever?
- 15:20No, I don't think so. I think it's largely enough
- 15:24close enough to to to be, you know close enough, right.
- 15:29And and again not everybody's going to be thinking the same
- 15:31way. Not everybody's going to be
- 15:32believing in the same thing in the exact same way.
- 15:34There's going to be a lot of nuance though that is shared.
- 15:37So Ethan is just it. It's fine.
- 15:41So let's not, let's not split too many hairs, let's not get
- 15:45into the minutiae of it. But let's let's just dive right
- 15:49into to Justin's video real quick though, because I think
- 15:53there's plenty enough here to to start with.
- 15:58So again, this is like 3 the three phases of your Norse Pagan
- 16:05journey. So I hope you guys enjoy it.
- 16:08I'm going to be sharing it on my screen, so I'm going to be kind
- 16:10of pausing and comment commentating along as we go.
- 16:14So for those of you listening and watching, you'll understand
- 16:17it. But here we go.
- 16:19Let's get started to. Become a Norse Pagan.
- 16:24Now what? Well, now you start your
- 16:26journey, and on this journey you should be growing, changing,
- 16:30evolving if you will. And while the process looks
- 16:32different for everyone, there are some general faces that we
- 16:35can talk about. That's it.
- 16:56That's phase one. It's it's the skull phase.
- 16:58It's the you know a loading and all that, right?
- 17:02It's that was hilarious. I love that that's the
- 17:05introduction to this whole thing.
- 17:07Go to his page, his his his TikTok if you guys have it.
- 17:11Everything's going to be linked down in the description and all
- 17:13that. But follow the whole thing.
- 17:14Watch the whole thing. I mean, but we're, I just wanted
- 17:17to say, like, that was that was freaking hilarious.
- 17:21So this is as bad as you're going to be, and it's not really
- 17:24so much as bad as it is annoying.
- 17:27In your first phase, you're going to find yourself immersed
- 17:29in an entire world and adopting the entire aesthetic of it.
- 17:33You're going to want the tattoos, the jewelry, the
- 17:36altars, and the decorations. You're going to try to make this
- 17:39your entire personality. However, you will still have a
- 17:42mountain of deconstruction to do.
- 17:44You're going to carry with you your preconceived notions of the
- 17:47divine and expectations of what all of this is.
- 17:51I do just want to mention real quick making this your
- 17:57personality, right? And you know, and he's using
- 18:03some imagery and stuff that is you know Floki from the TV show
- 18:07Vikings this you know, blonde lady with an axe and and and all
- 18:11of that you know, very Germanic or Scandinavian looking things.
- 18:16You know decorating your your, your yourself, right?
- 18:21Putting either artwork permanently into your skin and
- 18:26getting the tattoos, getting the jewelry right, the trappings,
- 18:29things to to to wear that are expressions of your belief,
- 18:33right. And and again like you said, you
- 18:36know, making it every part of your personality even probably
- 18:39down to in some ways. You know dressing up or dressing
- 18:43down or dressing in a fashion that is reflective of a bygone
- 18:48time. You know wearing tunics and
- 18:50things like that, which I've done and and still continue to
- 18:53do. You guys see me on some of my
- 18:54videos wearing linen tunics or or you know, shirts and stuff
- 18:59that have a very old fashioned look to them, right.
- 19:01They they're not the typical thing that you see in today's
- 19:05society in modern society's, you know, fashion statement.
- 19:13It's it's it's it's archaic a bit in a way.
- 19:16But I think that that is an important aspect of phase one
- 19:20really becoming immersed into things and finding interest and
- 19:25finding the the beauty in the aesthetic of those things.
- 19:32You know, being drawn to the imagery, being drawn to the the
- 19:36the historical style you know. Now granted you know a lot of
- 19:43pop culture has skewed the the imagery and and made things to
- 19:47be not historically accurate. You know so when you watch
- 19:49things like you know the TV show Vikings and you see these guys
- 19:52dressed in certain armor. I mean that was that's
- 19:54definitely not historically accurate armor or looks or
- 19:57anything like that but it was it's for Hollywood right.
- 19:59It's for TV. It's for entertainment.
- 20:01So realize that, know that. But also I I think it's an
- 20:05important thing to to key in on is so much of what we identify
- 20:10as as a as a as a culture now, as a society now it's people now
- 20:13it's humanity now is based heavily on our what we see you
- 20:18know. We draw our conclusions.
- 20:20We base our conclusions. We are appealed to things from
- 20:26how we receive them through our eyes.
- 20:27And if we can't see it, it doesn't.
- 20:29It doesn't have nearly as much of an appeal for a lot of people
- 20:33as it would be if we were just if we didn't have that, that
- 20:37visual aspect. All right, so let's get back.
- 20:42You're going to be corrected a lot, but you should keep in mind
- 20:46that this is not a jab, it's you personal.
- 20:49One of the bigger notions that can be misleading in paganism is
- 20:53a general one of no wrong answers, or that you can just
- 20:56simply do whatever you feel is right and call it paganism and
- 20:59go about your way. While Norse paganism is far from
- 21:03a level of structure of more predominant religions, there are
- 21:06areas where an aspect of right or wrong or correct or incorrect
- 21:11still apply. So like, I was just saying
- 21:15before how you know the dogmatic aspects of certain dominant
- 21:20religions. Like he mentioned the right,
- 21:25wrong. You know what?
- 21:27And I've talked about this before, not in, in probably not
- 21:31even a month or so Ago's episode about, you know, you're doing it
- 21:34wrong, are you doing it wrong, dogma and heathenry and all
- 21:37that. There are there are certain
- 21:40things that if you are calling yourself heathen, if you're
- 21:43going to adopt that name, if you're going to adopt that view
- 21:47of the world, if you're going to be that, then there are certain
- 21:50things that go with it. You know, it's it may be not, it
- 21:55may not be this, you know, maybe I may be oversimplifying or
- 21:59maybe I'm, I'm totally off the mark.
- 22:01But, you know, if I want to call myself a Carpenter and I don't
- 22:08know how to read a tape measure, then what good is me being able
- 22:12to bang a few nails, cut a few pieces of wood and do some math?
- 22:19You know, if I can't measure things out, if I can't do the
- 22:24the intricate parts of it, if I don't understand everything
- 22:27there is to being a Carpenter, then I really can't call myself
- 22:31a Carpenter. I can learn about it, right,
- 22:34Because and guess what, you're not going to learn everything
- 22:35about a a trade like that overnight.
- 22:37You're going to have to apprentice under someone.
- 22:39You're going to have to learn under people.
- 22:41And there are right ways of doing things and there are wrong
- 22:43ways of doing things. Same way with Heathenry, you
- 22:46know, yes, there is a, there's there's a lot of flexibility.
- 22:50There's a, you know, more fluidity maybe within Paganism
- 22:54as a whole than there is in some of these other, like you say,
- 22:56dominant religions. But please don't come into this
- 22:59thinking that you can just be all carefree Willy nilly, doing
- 23:03whatever you want, however you want, whenever you want and
- 23:06still call it that in its in in in that sense.
- 23:10And and that's about as far as I want to go with it, I think on
- 23:12on that. So that's my take on it, but
- 23:15let's listen to the. Rest, it says you should be
- 23:18deconstructing your old worldviews, asking questions,
- 23:21reading your lore, listening to those with more time under their
- 23:24belts. Real quick, Don't forget the
- 23:27sagas. All right?
- 23:28It's not just about the lore. It's not just about the stories.
- 23:31You know of the gods Goddesses Read the sagas too.
- 23:36Read as many of the sagas as you can from all the different
- 23:40regions You know what I mean? Read the Volsung, the saga.
- 23:42Read the England the saga. Read the saga, The The Nyol's
- 23:45saga. Read.
- 23:46Read all of the and some of the bigger ones and the minor ones
- 23:49too. Right?
- 23:50As many ones as you can get your hands on.
- 23:52Don't forget the sagas. It's not just about the Lord,
- 23:54It's not just about the mythos. Get it all in.
- 23:59There's a lot of studying here. More than likely, however, what
- 24:03you will do is buy all of the books, pick out the bits and
- 24:07pieces of it as needed, spam post heathen related content to
- 24:10your social media, develop an ambition of becoming a person of
- 24:13prominence within the community, Maybe flirt with the idea of
- 24:17starting your own kindred. You're going to be abusing words
- 24:20like skull and brother and sister a lot.
- 24:23You're going to be loud and you're going to be proud and the
- 24:25rest of us just want you to calm down.
- 24:28Just a. Yes, just a little bit, guys.
- 24:31Just a little bit. Love the enthusiasm.
- 24:33I was that way. I know people that listen and
- 24:36watch my content that have been doing this for as long longer
- 24:39than me can relate to this, right.
- 24:43I don't think this is unrelatable to anyone.
- 24:46And and especially for you newer folks that may be tuning in, you
- 24:49know, you get it. You know, I was one of those
- 24:54ones at one point in time. Hail all father Till Valhalla.
- 24:58Skull brother, sister. That right.
- 25:01Because of the other religious baggage that I carried with me
- 25:06into Heathenry or you know as I was learning about Heathenry
- 25:10these were these were the the reason why I was being this way
- 25:14or or or the maybe not the entire reason, but a lot of the
- 25:17reasons why I was being this way is because I was taking some of
- 25:20what I or I had already learned from a previous experience
- 25:24carrying it over into my new experience.
- 25:27You know. And some of those things just
- 25:28don't have a place there. You know the whole brother
- 25:33sister thing. Right.
- 25:33Familial titles. I've talked about this many,
- 25:36many times about false kinship and why I have such a problem
- 25:40with it myself. I don't get on every social
- 25:44media thread post this that thing or the other on on on on
- 25:47different forums and and scold people for saying this to one
- 25:51another. Let them be.
- 25:54I sit back from a distance and I'm like it.
- 25:56It's it's annoying. I don't.
- 25:58I don't agree with it. I don't believe in it doesn't
- 26:02work for me. But you know people are going to
- 26:06do what they want to do and so be vigorous be proud of it and
- 26:12and and make that stance and like he says you know you know
- 26:14you want to. I think a lot of people.
- 26:16I think a lot of reason why people are this way especially
- 26:18in the beginning is it is such an exciting thing, right.
- 26:21You're learning about stuff that maybe, you know you only heard
- 26:26about in storybooks growing up, or you watched in a movie, or
- 26:29you saw in a video, or you know, you heard of someone talking
- 26:31about sort of like as if it wasn't even a real thing.
- 26:36You know, I can't tell you how many people nowadays still are
- 26:40are surprised and amazed that people who believe in Odin, Thor
- 26:45and Freya, Freg, Loki, all the other gods, goddesses, etcetera,
- 26:51How surprised people are that that's a real religious view or
- 26:55faith or a path of spirituality. You know, a lot of people in in
- 27:00more of the again dominant and conventional religions are are
- 27:03surprised at that. Like, wow, you can believe in
- 27:06that. Those are just comic books,
- 27:07tales or stories, right? Please.
- 27:13Please do you either die a hero or you live long enough to see
- 27:18yourself become the villain? So the first thing you need to
- 27:21know about phase two is you can't get to it until there's
- 27:24someone newer than yourself. The second thing you need to
- 27:27know is that just because there is someone newer than yourself
- 27:30does not automatically move you up.
- 27:33You see, in phase one you've been corrected and guided,
- 27:36sometimes even to great dissatisfaction, but you've
- 27:40started to oblige, if for no other reason than to save
- 27:43yourself the exact same reactions.
- 27:46Yeah, I do want to say don't get discouraged for any of you newer
- 27:51folks, right? And if this video or this
- 27:53podcast gets circulated around to to groups of people that are
- 27:57just starting on their path and starting to learn, don't get
- 28:01discouraged. When you come with what you
- 28:05think is accurate information, what you might think is truth,
- 28:14right? And I'm not talking like your
- 28:18truth, right? Your upg, your unverified
- 28:20personal gnosis, the experiences that you've had, that no one
- 28:23else has had, that are important and are valid but that just
- 28:27don't have any backing and historical documentation that
- 28:30exists to this point in time. Don't be discouraged when your
- 28:37information that you share like I'll.
- 28:38I'll give you an example, right One time I was talking and I
- 28:43was. This is years ago and you know I
- 28:49was I was talking about symble the the symble ritual and you
- 28:55know when I was going into information and things about you
- 28:58know, well, this is act this is this is this is you know common
- 29:00misconceptions about symble. I hadn't done a proper symbol.
- 29:03I haven't you know I hadn't at that point in my time
- 29:06experienced what symbol is and and the structure of it all and
- 29:10and all that and I got told you know by by a by a gentleman you
- 29:15know no you're wrong you're you're flat out wrong don't be
- 29:18talking about stuff like this you know and but at the same
- 29:23time he also was presenting me with knowledge and information
- 29:27and gave me the source material to go and research myself to be
- 29:31like hey what you're saying you know you're you're it was either
- 29:35yes you're you're you're on point with this or no you're not
- 29:39this is wrong or you're kind of close you're near the mark.
- 29:42Here's where you can find more information about right I was
- 29:45being told where to go and and how to find it.
- 29:48I got lucky with that. All right.
- 29:49Some people out here will just be like what's wrong with you,
- 29:52you stupid idiot you know and and and where where's your
- 29:54sources cite your sources and then they won't even, you know
- 29:58back it up. There's different ways that
- 30:00people approach things especially if they're in the
- 30:04advanced phases or stages of their of their their their their
- 30:08paganism right. They've been they got a lot of
- 30:10miles under the tires. They're not going to be as
- 30:13probably not going to be as quick to want to put up with the
- 30:17trivial stuff, right. They'll be like well let the let
- 30:20the let the kids on the training wheels play in that space and
- 30:25let us guys over here, gals, whatever, let us over here on
- 30:28our unicycles or our advanced skills.
- 30:30Right. Let's hone our advanced skills
- 30:32right. That's it's it's kind of like
- 30:34learning anything you know you don't.
- 30:36You don't Going back to the Carpenter analogy, you know you
- 30:39don't pick up a hammer, saws, tape measure and go build a
- 30:43house. No, you know you learn the
- 30:45basics. You learn the fundamentals.
- 30:47You learn how to read a tape measure.
- 30:48You learn how to, you know, read your your your angles and all
- 30:53these types of things. You learn all of the basic
- 30:55stuff. You apprentice, you learn and
- 30:56then you apply that knowledge into a journeyman stage.
- 30:59And then once you apply and and and and actually put miles under
- 31:03your own tires, then you can be classified and and known by your
- 31:08peers as the master of your trade.
- 31:11You know so. Two, you will see someone where
- 31:16you used to be and acting as you used to act.
- 31:20You will find yourself in the more senior position and ready
- 31:23to deliver the messages that you have now heard countless times.
- 31:28This however can lead to its own problems as some people elevate
- 31:31this into full blown gatekeeping and a more generalized
- 31:35contrarian behavior. Now real quick on that, one of
- 31:41the things that when I was learning right when I was coming
- 31:43up into and I'm still learning guys like I'm not saying like I
- 31:46figured it all out and I'm here just to tell you how to do this
- 31:48thing. No, I'm still learning.
- 31:50We're all still learning. At least I hope we all can agree
- 31:54that we're students we're all it's kind of like I heard.
- 31:58I heard somebody say one time you know there's a reason why
- 32:01such advanced fields of study like doctors, lawyers, the field
- 32:06of medicine. Why those fields?
- 32:11Why the professionals in those fields are said to be quote UN
- 32:16quote practicing their craft right.
- 32:18I am practicing medicine. I am practicing law.
- 32:22I am practicing this thing. Now the other right it is that
- 32:26they are fine tuning it. It's not that or I'm studying
- 32:29you might hear that you know but it even when they get their
- 32:32degree, even when they are in their field of of of expertise
- 32:37performing at the level and the capacity that you know makes
- 32:42them the authority, they are still in the stage of practicing
- 32:45their their craft. And I think that's an important
- 32:48analogy to to compare to right is, is that we're always
- 32:51studying. We're always learning, we're
- 32:52always practicing. We always got things to to learn
- 32:55from especially in this type of arena.
- 32:58You know what I mean? Like so much of of old ways,
- 33:01beliefs are being uncovered constantly being, you know,
- 33:06resurfaced, unsurfaced, discovered, right.
- 33:09So the things that we may have thought at one point in time now
- 33:12because of a recent discovery have been, you know, our
- 33:14thoughts and views have changed because well, you know what we
- 33:17thought at this one point in time was based off of this
- 33:20discovery. Now we've discovered something
- 33:21else. And so now we have to change, we
- 33:23have to shift, we have to adjust.
- 33:27And one thing that I was that I always thought of is, you know,
- 33:30if I, when I was my very early stage, like phase one stages of
- 33:34things and I was learning things, what what the way people
- 33:38would approach me, the way I would get approached about
- 33:42something that I said, you know, if they came off really callous,
- 33:45really, you know, you know, demeaning in a way, it was
- 33:50discouraging for me to even want to engage more people.
- 33:54Because I'm like, well, if this is how everybody's acting and if
- 33:56this is how all the people in this space are going to behave,
- 33:59then you know, why would I want to do that now?
- 34:03Fortunately, I grew up in a way and in a lifestyle that really
- 34:08helped condition me to be be able to receive criticism that
- 34:19was delivered in a very callous sort of way.
- 34:21Not saying that it was right at the time or that it was right
- 34:24every time, but there are definitely times and and places
- 34:29for that sort of quote, UN quote, tough love to happen,
- 34:31right? If you're being a jerk, if
- 34:33you're not getting it, sometimes you just need that kind of
- 34:37proverbial smack upside the head to to really get you into that
- 34:42like, hey, get back on track here, back in line.
- 34:47That doesn't work for everybody. That that approach doesn't work
- 34:50for everybody. So when he's talking about this,
- 34:53you know when you get to a point you Start learning and then you,
- 34:56you know, can fall victim to this.
- 34:59Well, I know more than you now and I'm going to make you, you
- 35:02know, work for it. I think that there's a there's a
- 35:06degree and there's a level of tact that needs to be employed
- 35:13with that tactic. Like you know, you can give
- 35:15people the benefit of researching, finding their own
- 35:19answers because that is so satisfying.
- 35:20You know when you when you are given hints and clues and you
- 35:23find answers yourself, like, that is so rewarding that you
- 35:26like, man. I found it right.
- 35:27I was able to go and research and and learn things and it is
- 35:31it's it, it it it it makes you want to do more, right?
- 35:34It makes you want to research more and learn more.
- 35:36It it feeds that eagerness. So yeah, like the gatekeeping
- 35:43thing, like he's talking about, like knowledge is free.
- 35:45You know, you can get online, you can go to your library, you
- 35:47can sign up for courses, you can do all these things that are
- 35:52maybe not monetarily free. But I'm just saying like, and
- 35:55there's there's there is so much that it's free.
- 35:57I mean you can go online and find information for free very
- 36:01quickly and easily. Is it accurate information?
- 36:03Is it the right information? That's up to you to to dig into
- 36:07you know and and to find out and to talk with people who may know
- 36:10more than you, who can help steer and direct you in that
- 36:14right direction. So the more we learn, the more
- 36:17we gather information, the more knowledge that we collect.
- 36:23It is important, I think, for us to not just give it away freely,
- 36:29but not to gatekeep it and be like you can't you can't access
- 36:32this. You can't know what I know.
- 36:33I you know. We want you to know what we
- 36:35know. I want people to know what I
- 36:36know. And I want to know what more
- 36:38what what. I want to know what people know
- 36:41more than me. You know what I mean?
- 36:43I want to know the things that people that know more than me
- 36:45know. No, no, no, no, no.
- 36:48And and this stage of things is kind of where that happens, I
- 36:52think. And I love the way he puts it.
- 36:54So let's go on. As you well should know, for all
- 36:57the flaws of those in phase one, they are not always wrong.
- 37:01Often they possess a simple wisdom as they are seeing our
- 37:04actions with an outside lens. We should never just ignore
- 37:08those with less experience, but for some, the idea of heating
- 37:13the less experienced word is just too much.
- 37:18Yeah, and I don't get that either, you know, like, it
- 37:21almost seems like a like a like a like a blow to to some
- 37:23people's pride when they get shown up or, you know, told off
- 37:29in a way by someone who, quote, UN quote, knows less than them.
- 37:33You know, we haven't been a heathen for for as long as I
- 37:35have. What?
- 37:36What could you possibly know? Hey man, I hate to tell you, but
- 37:41I've been shown up philosophically knowledge book
- 37:45smarts. I've been, I've been shown up a
- 37:47lot by people decades younger than me, Had a kid on this
- 37:52channel, on the on the Mid Garden Musings channel years
- 37:55ago. That was, you know, he was
- 37:5712/13/14 years old, man. And he was talking about stuff
- 38:00from a philosophical end. And I'm like, who who are you?
- 38:04How old are you? You know, like, granted that
- 38:07philosophy is a bit different. There's a lot of perspective and
- 38:11stuff that gets inserted into philosophical conversations.
- 38:14But the kids brain was bright and he had a lot of knowledge
- 38:18and a lot of things to offer. And I love those interactions
- 38:22because it was mentally stimulating and it was giving me
- 38:26things to think about that I could apply to myself or to, you
- 38:30know, the people who I share my life with.
- 38:31And all this, right? It you You're kind of doing
- 38:34yourself a disservice and an injustice if you're refusing to
- 38:38learn from people just because they're younger than you,
- 38:41because they don't know as much as you know or haven't been on
- 38:45the path for as long as you have right?
- 38:47Tenure. Don't restrict your growth
- 38:52because you think that you know the the person that hasn't been
- 38:57doing this as long as you know is less than you.
- 39:00Educators and leaders in our community start this process in
- 39:03phase two. But that does not mean that you
- 39:06do not have work to do. In fact, you will have more.
- 39:10You will still have deeper deconstruction to do and there
- 39:13is always more to learn. You will find that the
- 39:15expectations put on you from the community grow with age, not
- 39:19lessen. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:22I mean, you're kind of like, I remember talking to the same guy
- 39:25that I mentioned earlier who kind of told me the what to how
- 39:27for what for how to, whatever the terminology is about
- 39:30stumble. I remember him telling me at one
- 39:35point, just not all that long ago, you know, like you're kind
- 39:40of he, he told me. He's like, man, you're kind of
- 39:42in, you're you're getting into this space now you're you're
- 39:47arriving at a time where you're going to be looked at as a
- 39:53source of knowledge, a source of information, your
- 39:58responsibility, your obligation to be accurate.
- 40:04Be you know, not just be out here spouting things all Willy
- 40:08nilly. At least not you know.
- 40:10If you're going to talk about you, you know things that you've
- 40:12experienced. You know, always don't.
- 40:13Don't use those experiences as the way other people should do
- 40:17things. Always use that disclaimer as
- 40:19UPG and stuff like that. I learned.
- 40:21I learned that important thing from Eric Shervin that the
- 40:26Ravens call in every one of his videos.
- 40:30You know, he always is saying, you know, this is just one
- 40:33heathen in East Texas views on things.
- 40:36I don't speak on behalf of the larger heathen community.
- 40:39I don't even speak on behalf of my tribe, the Fridgar.
- 40:44His tribe in East Texas. He he, he uses the term, you
- 40:48know, I'm not some awesome Pope of Heathenry or something.
- 40:50Like, I love that about Eric's delivery on things, you know?
- 40:55And he shares a wellspring of knowledge in his content.
- 41:01I'll link his stuff down in the in the description and stuff
- 41:03too. For those of you who maybe
- 41:04aren't unaware of who I'm talking about.
- 41:06But his name is Eric Shervin. Eric Word Weaver Shervin.
- 41:09He has a community on Facebook called the Word Weaver
- 41:12Productions and he's his his channel is is under his
- 41:16namesake, but his his show it was called the Ravens Call and
- 41:19his content has been scarce as of late just due to life and
- 41:22whatnot. But he does have a bat catalog
- 41:24of amazing things. Do be sure to check him out.
- 41:27Same thing you know he's he's he's one of the reasons why I've
- 41:31done what I've done with content like this.
- 41:33He's a big inspiration. He he he's become a friend of
- 41:36mine. Even though we don't talk
- 41:37regularly we have each other's number.
- 41:39I know I can call or talk to him and and he'll get back to me,
- 41:44right. Good guy.
- 41:45Really good guy. And he's taught me that valuable
- 41:47aspect of sharing of knowledge and that the responsibility
- 41:51falls on you more heavily and greater when you put yourself
- 41:55out here like this and you start kind of presenting yourself as
- 41:58a, I know what I'm talking about type of person.
- 42:02And so the work doesn't stop, it doesn't slow down, it gets even
- 42:07more, more in depth. So absolutely agree with him
- 42:12what he's saying. It's Norris Pagan.
- 42:14You'll be looked at from both sides.
- 42:16In essence, everybody is going to be watching you.
- 42:19The truth is, is that not everybody is cut out to leave
- 42:23this phase. In this phase, you should
- 42:27continue to identify and deconstruct areas in your life
- 42:30where you still hold a monochromatic lens, assist newer
- 42:33Norse pagans as best as possible without overstepping study more
- 42:38broadly without neglecting your previous study materials.
- 42:41Basically, you should now be refining your knowledge and
- 42:44skills and discovering how to apply what you've learned to the
- 42:48everyday world around yourself. However, what you will do is get
- 42:53into a lot of arguments over semantic points.
- 42:56At least once you'll carry a personal feeling into a
- 42:59situation where it shouldn't be, if not a handful of times.
- 43:03You're going to make wildly inaccurate claims from time to
- 43:05time with your full chest and have to admit you were wrong,
- 43:09and overall you're going to be finding yourself being humbled a
- 43:11time or two. And that is good.
- 43:17It's happened to me even not too long ago, you know, and that
- 43:30that I think is kind of the the, the a mark of of someone who is
- 43:34truly in the position of what they're doing right.
- 43:39They're in this phase for the right reasons.
- 43:41They're not out here trying to persuade people to think the way
- 43:43they think. They don't want to dictate how
- 43:46other people think based off of what they think they they they
- 43:49want to share what they know, and they do.
- 43:51They do so with vigor and with gusto and with conviction.
- 43:56However, when they are presented with legitimate facts of hey,
- 44:02you're off the mark here and here's the reason why they're
- 44:08able to receive that and be and and and again shift.
- 44:13You know, take what people have said, take the the more
- 44:17knowledgeable people. Because like you're saying you
- 44:19know all eyes on you. You're being seen as someone who
- 44:22people can look up to from the phase one side and you're also
- 44:25being looked at from the phase three or above whatever side of
- 44:29things as what is this person doing, what are they out here
- 44:31saying? I had an experience like that at
- 44:35Shadowmoot this year at the Raven Moon Hearth event, where I
- 44:37was approached by a gentleman who has been on, as he calls it,
- 44:43the Teutonic Path for longer than I've been alive.
- 44:49He's in his 70s. His great grandfather was like,
- 44:54was Icelandic and taught him how to read runes and all this type
- 44:57of stuff, Right. So this guy has family
- 45:00traditions passed down to him. He's got you know, things that
- 45:04hit the way his family done things that he was, that he's
- 45:06been doing his whole adult life. You know, again longer than I've
- 45:10been alive and that people like that are are looking at people
- 45:16like me and going what's this? What's this dude saying or
- 45:19what's this gal saying? Right.
- 45:21And they're and they're scrutinizing and they're they're
- 45:23observing and they're watching and there are going to be times
- 45:26when you're going to be told you're you're you're off the
- 45:30mark here. And and so I, I, I love that
- 45:35that aspect of that that portion of this where he's talking
- 45:37about, you know, taking that criticism, taking that
- 45:45monochromatic lens like you know and and breaking that apart and
- 45:49and getting out of that deconstructing that perspective,
- 45:52not just looking at things through the way you see it, but
- 45:54getting a broader aspect and learning more about it and
- 45:57becoming more of again, you know the greater world view of
- 46:02things. I realized that what we're
- 46:03talking about now is very specific, but it does have kind
- 46:08of it does loop into why I wanted to do this podcast on
- 46:11what do we do once we are Norse Pagan.
- 46:14So let's listen to some more. But to sharpen a blade, you must
- 46:19first grind it. As this process removes the
- 46:21Burrows and the blade will become more useful, so too must
- 46:25we sharpen ourselves and make ourselves more useful to the
- 46:29broader community. Oh man, that's a great analogy.
- 46:35That is a great analogy. You know, for a blade to become
- 46:39useful, you have to grind it before you can sharpen it.
- 46:42You have to get rid of those rough edges.
- 46:45And even before that, you have to subject it to intense and
- 46:50grueling ordeal. You have to quench it, you have
- 46:53to torch it, You have to burn it.
- 46:55You have to beat it. There's a lot of adversity that
- 46:59a blade goes through before it ever gets to the grinding part
- 47:02of things. But even once it goes through
- 47:05that quench and even once it goes do that initial stress
- 47:09test, there are still refining moments, you know got to grind
- 47:15off those those hard edges. All right.
- 47:17So here we go into phase three. Do you mean to wish me a good
- 47:22morning or do you mean that it is a good morning whether I want
- 47:24it or not? Or perhaps you mean to say that
- 47:28you feel good on this particular morning?
- 47:31Or are you simply stating that this is a morning to be good on?
- 47:38And here we are. Phase three, the phase many
- 47:41aspire to get to but few reach. At phase three, you have
- 47:45established yourself within your community, proven consistent in
- 47:48your character, demonstrated in the ability to provide good
- 47:51counsel, and have thoroughly loosened up.
- 47:54You don't have to be old, but you will have an old soul when
- 47:58it counts. The rest of the time, you're
- 48:00likely to be cracking yourself up with the jokes and pranks
- 48:03you'll be pulling to alleviate the boredom.
- 48:09You know, I can't. I can't tell you how many times
- 48:11I've told people you know don't take yourself so seriously.
- 48:17That's that's a lot easier said than done, I think for for a lot
- 48:20of folks, admittedly myself included.
- 48:23But I I don't take myself very seriously.
- 48:27You know I think you guys have have that have that have watched
- 48:29or or listened to my content you know over the years have seen
- 48:34that part of me even on screen. You know if you know me in
- 48:40person you know just how kind of silly I I I I can be and and and
- 48:46where my humor kind of goes and and the type of looseness that I
- 48:52you know achieve when it comes to just being around people who
- 48:55I know or talking to people in a in a in a conversational
- 49:01setting. It's it's I don't take myself
- 49:07very seriously. I take what I do serious when it
- 49:10needs to be taken serious right when there is piety needed for a
- 49:15ritual or when there is you know a somberness for for an event or
- 49:19something. You know what I mean?
- 49:20Like I know when to be what I need to be, but for the most
- 49:24part I mean I'm not walking around like with my chest up in
- 49:26the air and you know you will address me as Allah, Chieftain,
- 49:30blah, blah, blah. No, whatever, man.
- 49:31Like that's doesn't matter. I mean I don't it matters for
- 49:40the reasons that it matters but I don't use those things to
- 49:45define who I am 24/7, right. It's, it's, it's it's it's a
- 49:48position it's a it's a title it's it's a thing that I have to
- 49:50do. You know obligations that I have
- 49:54to meet, that sort of thing. So, but the rest of the time I'm
- 49:57just, it's just Jesse. Stage you're basically a wizard
- 50:02with a gaggle. The pop.
- 50:02It's delete. People may mistake your cheerful
- 50:05nature for one of complacency, but few rounds of percussion
- 50:09maintenance will set that machine back to working order.
- 50:13I do just want to say, you know, percussion maintenance.
- 50:17I know this is probably not what he's referring to here in this
- 50:21video, but this is my percussion maintenance.
- 50:25That drum right there, this, this drum behind me that you
- 50:29can't really see because it's that you kind of see.
- 50:31It's there's my percussion maintenance.
- 50:36I don't think that's what he means here, but that is a
- 50:38percussion instrument and drumming is definitely a way
- 50:42that helps heal me and maintains my character and my consistency
- 50:48of who I am. You know, it kind of helps level
- 50:51things out. So I just wanted to throw that
- 50:53out there. Drum therapy is amazing.
- 50:59Sure. What to put here as this is the
- 51:01station above me, so I'm just going to describe phase three as
- 51:04I see it. You're.
- 51:06Wise, but paradoxically, you're immature at times.
- 51:11OK, hold on just a second. That's I've only watched this
- 51:14video like maybe once and I and I seem to have missed that
- 51:17particular not more than once. But I've seen, I particularly
- 51:20missed that segment of the video where he says that this is
- 51:23something that is above him. So he's just going to say what
- 51:27he thinks. Great delivery.
- 51:30To say that something is above you is what we have to do.
- 51:34If we're if we're trying to talk about something, it's like, hey,
- 51:38this isn't really my wheelhouse or I don't really have a horse
- 51:41in this race. That's important because
- 51:44otherwise you're gonna be somebody who's listening to
- 51:47that. And if he hadn't said that,
- 51:49you'd be like, wow, then that's what it is.
- 51:50You know, again, people that are at a lower level or at a lesser
- 51:54phase or that are just coming into something are gonna be
- 51:57looking ahead and seeing people that are out here putting videos
- 52:01out. Which is why I have such a, you
- 52:05know, I have such a voice about people that are out here doing
- 52:09some things and saying some things.
- 52:10And they're not doing their due diligence, their research,
- 52:13their, you know, they're not being diligent about the
- 52:17position that they put themselves in.
- 52:20You know, that they're out here just talking out of their butts.
- 52:24A lot of them are, you know, and there's there's so many people
- 52:30out here that are just and they have a huge following.
- 52:33You know, that's the other thing too is, is you know, they're out
- 52:34and they got a huge following. They're they're, you know,
- 52:37Internet superstars. And I use that term very
- 52:41loosely. Internet celebrities, what have,
- 52:44you know, they have a name. They have a following.
- 52:46I have a following too. But I mean it's not you.
- 52:49You get what I'm trying to say. Justin here like he's he's, he's
- 52:52prefacing. He's giving this disclaimer to
- 52:53say I'm not at this stage, I'm not going to try to pretend that
- 52:57I am. I'm just going to say what I
- 52:58think, and here's what he has to think.
- 53:00Well, it's like we're Wizards. Or he's saying it's like they're
- 53:04Wizards. Human nature is frankly spooky,
- 53:09and you get the impression somebody from phase three could
- 53:11whisper to Shy La Boeuf to shut the fuck up and he would
- 53:14actually listen. They give you the impression
- 53:18that they have a small shack in the middle of a strip of trees
- 53:22with the bones of fallen foes feeding into a garden that is
- 53:25protected by geese, that they tamed in a staring con.
- 53:32That's oddly specific. I personally have squirrels.
- 53:38I'm saying is you don't want to upset somebody in phase three.
- 53:42I mean, it is difficult to do, but if you manage it, the walls
- 53:48of your asshole are going to clap shut so fast that the sound
- 53:51that resonates into the wild will be the only clue of your
- 53:54demise. Oh my gods, all of them.
- 54:02That is hilarious. He's he's he's weaving words
- 54:06himself. This is great.
- 54:09I I love the This is humorous but in the best way possible.
- 54:14Like I am laughing my ass off hearing him describe these
- 54:17things the way he is. This is great.
- 54:22People on phase three offer wisdom, insight.
- 54:25Often times they offer it before you've realized that you needed
- 54:29to hear it or heed it. In phase three, you should be
- 54:33advising councils on what to do with rings of power or
- 54:36something. I'm not really sure, but somehow
- 54:39you're stuck here dealing with us.
- 54:41Maybe it's your Haminga, but whatever the reason.
- 54:45Hey, I like the, I like the, I like the, I like the the use of
- 54:49the word in its proper context. Justin Hummingya is, you know,
- 54:53our our, our luck that goes with us, the luck that we've
- 54:56inherited, the luck that strengthens along us as we go
- 55:00through our familial line, you know, Great application, Sir.
- 55:07Very well done. Thank you.
- 55:08Our face. Three people.
- 55:10We know this kind of turned into a babysitting gig, except all
- 55:14the kids are armed and have no concept of self preservation.
- 55:18But we do appreciate you without repeating myself.
- 55:22What you will be doing is whatever the fuck you feel like
- 55:25and the rest of us can just deal with it.
- 55:27You will come and go as you please.
- 55:29Speak above the heads of the majority or speak directly to
- 55:32people who think they understand but have absolutely no idea what
- 55:36you're talking about, and you'll be cultivating the next
- 55:39generation of leaders. You will fight to preserve the
- 55:42practices and legacies you have established.
- 55:45While we toil in the trenches of the drama, you offer glimpses of
- 55:50the bigger. Pictures, dude, that was great.
- 55:58Justin, man, I I that that's awesome, you know?
- 56:03And am I at phase three? I don't know.
- 56:05I mean, like I said, I'm always the learner, never the master,
- 56:09you know, I never want to be. But I do know the that some of
- 56:15the things that I say get, you know, they get, they get taken
- 56:24with consideration. I mentioned earlier about or he
- 56:30mentioned earlier percussion maintenance and that the drums
- 56:33are a way for me to maintain things in my path, my
- 56:38spirituality. Maybe you are also looking for
- 56:42some, excuse me percussion maintenance.
- 56:45Maybe you need a drum in your life, or maybe you know someone
- 56:48who needs a drum in your life. Or maybe you know someone who
- 56:51can get you a drum in your life because they're looking to get
- 56:53you a gift for Yule coming up here soon.
- 56:57The Alvatir workshop can definitely assist with that.
- 57:00So let's hear a word from them before we continue.
- 57:02The alvatir workshop is dedicated to the old ways,
- 57:06offering a wide selection of animus, ritual supplies,
- 57:09divination tools, altered goods, and home decor, including
- 57:13premium reindeer heights imported from traditional
- 57:16herders in Northern Finland. Whether you're just starting
- 57:18your spiritual journey or looking to expand your
- 57:21collection with a custom drum, we have everything you need.
- 57:25Visit our online store at the alvatir.com and discover the
- 57:29beauty of mountain spirit. And Speaking of that, the drums
- 57:38that you see, the lot of the the the art, the the the artwork is
- 57:42is. I mean everything is here that
- 57:44you see the the the drum, the the hammer rattle that's in the
- 57:47back there. There's some other things on
- 57:48here that don't really make themselves too obvious.
- 57:52They are all from Fialvetir, so check out the description and
- 57:58show notes of this podcast for their website.
- 58:03They do have a a a very quick turn around.
- 58:07They're usually a day or two or more ahead of schedule when it
- 58:10comes to shipping to make sure, especially this time of year,
- 58:13that they are doing everything in their power and their
- 58:17capabilities to get things out to the people on time before the
- 58:22holidays. You know you can't control the
- 58:27United States Postal Service or any other international excuse
- 58:30me, shipping means FedEx, UPS, whatever.
- 58:34But if you all of us here does everything that they can
- 58:36possible to make sure that they're doing their part to get
- 58:39things out. And that way the couriers, you
- 58:42know nothing is held up on their end.
- 58:44If anything is held up, it's on the Courier side.
- 58:46So check them out, links in the description and show notes.
- 58:51But yeah, if you want to listen to more of of of the heathen
- 58:54nerds stuff, check out their socials that are linked down
- 58:57below as well, because there might be some more stuff that we
- 59:01didn't listen to today but that was, you know, that was phase
- 59:041-2 and three of your Norse paganism.
- 59:07Now where do you find yourself, you know, where do you classify
- 59:11yourself? Are you in that phase one still
- 59:13learning, you know, skull everybody, this and brother,
- 59:16sister, everyone that. Are you kind of in that middle
- 59:20stage where you're finding your voice and establishing yourself
- 59:26and wanting to speak on things that you are convicted in and
- 59:33want to share your thoughts with others to kind of help them, you
- 59:37know, maybe guide them or or show them things the way you see
- 59:40them, right. Or are you on that kind of phase
- 59:44three end of the spectrum where you're kind of doing whatever
- 59:47the fuck you want to do? You figured it out to the degree
- 59:51that you want to carry yourself and and being that sort of an
- 59:56elusive, kind of wild, interesting person that some
- 1:00:02people get, but everybody else you're just like, yeah, maybe,
- 1:00:06maybe you get it, maybe you don't.
- 1:00:07I don't know. It'd be interesting.
- 1:00:12But what else makes us heathen, You know, or or or What do you
- 1:00:17do once you've discovered that you're heathen?
- 1:00:20You kind of have to again like you know, I think this video
- 1:00:22really fits well with the discussion today because where
- 1:00:26are you in your phase of things? Do you want to go a bit more
- 1:00:31into the historical reconstructionist old ways style
- 1:00:36of things? Maybe you know where where where
- 1:00:40is your interest, where is your where is where are things
- 1:00:44pulling you towards right? Are you going into more of a new
- 1:00:48ways right where you sort of use the the Norse Germanic model or
- 1:00:54aesthetic on things and and overlay it into a very neo
- 1:00:58Pagan, modern, Wiccan style of things?
- 1:01:04It's not about, you know you're wrong if you're doing it that
- 1:01:08way. It's just a matter of I think
- 1:01:10you know if you're going to find yourself under the the
- 1:01:16description of heathen there are definite things that go with
- 1:01:21that right. My personal opinion OK and and
- 1:01:30we'll wrap it up here soon because I don't want to get too
- 1:01:33deep into things for sake of time and are we going now for an
- 1:01:36hour is is that you know if I'm going to be a a Germanic heathen
- 1:01:41then I'm going to follow things as closely as I can to what we
- 1:01:47know as how ancient Germanic Heathens pre Christian Germanic
- 1:01:54peoples view the world. When did they observe their holy
- 1:01:57tithes how did they reckon time what did they do when a child
- 1:02:01was born what did they do when they claimed land what you know
- 1:02:08what was their perspective of the afterlife.
- 1:02:11What was their perspective of the complex soul or the soul
- 1:02:15complex, right? How did they view themselves in
- 1:02:17one another, right? Where did they go when they
- 1:02:22died? Does it even matter, right?
- 1:02:24All of these various things that are very heathen specific
- 1:02:30worldviews that if all you're doing is just, you know, holding
- 1:02:36your Yule celebration in December and and holding it for
- 1:02:4012 nights and you're calling yourself Heathen in my opinion,
- 1:02:45right? And again don't don't take this
- 1:02:47with more than just what it. What I'm saying right now is
- 1:02:51that that is not particularly heathen.
- 1:02:55It's Pagan. You can you can hold Yule for
- 1:02:58however many nights you really feel like the ancient Heathens
- 1:03:02pre Christian heathens did it for three nights and they did it
- 1:03:07on the first full moon after the first new moon following the
- 1:03:09winter solstice. They didn't do it for 12 nights
- 1:03:12in December on the winter solstice.
- 1:03:16They did it when they did it right.
- 1:03:18And if that's all you're and I'm just again spitballing using
- 1:03:21using an example if that's all you're going to classify your
- 1:03:25heathenry around, then you probably got more things to
- 1:03:28research and more things to learn before you can officially
- 1:03:34or you know with conviction call yourself heathen.
- 1:03:37Now, again, does it matter in the long run what you call
- 1:03:39yourself Again, I'm not going to sit back here and watch or
- 1:03:43listen or or, you know, observe anybody else's posts online or
- 1:03:48whatever and be like, well, you're not a heathen.
- 1:03:50Why you call yourself heathen? I, you know, you observe the
- 1:03:52Wiccan sabbaths or, you know, this thing that or the other.
- 1:03:56I'm not going to do that. None of my business.
- 1:03:58Right. Going back to Eric Shervin from
- 1:04:02the Ravens, call not my hall, not my call.
- 1:04:07And I will always give credit to Eric for that because that is
- 1:04:12probably one of the greatest monikers, one of one of the
- 1:04:15greatest phrases maybe is a better term.
- 1:04:17But yeah, it's not my hall, not my call.
- 1:04:20Do what you want to do. If you're interested and you
- 1:04:23want to know more, you want to learn more than definitely
- 1:04:26follow Midgard musings. I mean, again, I try to share
- 1:04:29things knowledge wise, how how much I can or how much I'm able
- 1:04:34to post things about, you know, the content that's related to
- 1:04:37Germanic, Heathenry, to to the to, to the degree that I feel is
- 1:04:44is the most accurate for for the time I don't post everything, I
- 1:04:48am not a full time social media content creator.
- 1:04:52Are there other content creators out there?
- 1:04:55Yes absolutely that are doing great things that are that are
- 1:04:58sharing invaluable information to help people that are
- 1:05:03interested in growing in their way.
- 1:05:06You know but you know are are are you restricted to to your
- 1:05:11title of Heathenry based off of when you hold your holidays what
- 1:05:17clothes you wear what jewelry you wear do you have a beard you
- 1:05:21know you know that sort of thing.
- 1:05:26No, they they are again, they are, they are those types of
- 1:05:31things. I think you know your identity,
- 1:05:33how you are, want to be perceived, your your
- 1:05:35personality. The the, the thing that you're
- 1:05:37really capturing, especially when you first come into this
- 1:05:41is, is it, It's an aesthetic, you know.
- 1:05:43So we associate this type of belief with a certain look, but
- 1:05:52it's not what defines you, it's not what defines you, you know,
- 1:05:56and if all you're going to do is get caught up in the the, the
- 1:05:59names, the titles you're you're, you're going to slow yourself
- 1:06:05down. Honestly, learn as much as you
- 1:06:09can. Find out where you want to be.
- 1:06:12Don't go places just because everybody else is going places.
- 1:06:16If you feel pulled or drawn or inspired to do something else,
- 1:06:23follow something else, explore other areas, then go for it.
- 1:06:28You know? Now that doesn't mean that it's
- 1:06:30going to fall under the heathen, right?
- 1:06:32Quote UN quote Heathen way of doing things or or or or heathen
- 1:06:38worldview of things. But does it have to?
- 1:06:41No, not necessarily. You can.
- 1:06:42You can be many things. You can wear many hats.
- 1:06:49But you know, for me personally, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've
- 1:06:51reached a point in my life where you know, having I don't like to
- 1:06:55be all over the place. I don't like to, you know, well,
- 1:06:57one day I feel like I want to worship, you know, you know, in
- 1:07:00a way that that is reminiscent of how the Greeks did it.
- 1:07:04And then at another time of day or week or month or whatever, I
- 1:07:07want to do it how, you know, the Asiatic peoples did it or or or
- 1:07:11or or, you know, Japanese Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, you
- 1:07:17know, And then I'm going to come back at some time of the year
- 1:07:20and I'll do it the Germanic way. I like experiencing the
- 1:07:27knowledge that comes from from researching those things.
- 1:07:29But ultimately at the end of the day I I'm heathen.
- 1:07:32I I view the world as a heathen would view the world the least
- 1:07:36to the best of my knowledge. You know and the the tribe that
- 1:07:41I am oath to the tribe that I serve is a Germanic heathen
- 1:07:45tribe. And so we build our tribal
- 1:07:49structure around the pre Christian Germanic heathen
- 1:07:54models right. So when we gather, when we do
- 1:07:57our things, that is how we collectively view the world, how
- 1:08:02individuals of the tribe view the world and how individuals
- 1:08:05want to do their thing that is sovereign to them.
- 1:08:07And that is what we believe. We, we believe in the
- 1:08:09sovereignty of hearth. So my perspective on things
- 1:08:15doesn't necessarily reflect the entire tribe's perspective on
- 1:08:20things, but when we come together as a tribe, we share
- 1:08:23that commonality. So anyways, there you guys go,
- 1:08:29right? What do you do once you've
