- 0:00So what are the three areas of a home that are most likely to have mold?
- 0:03Behind a dishwasher is a common one because the leak will be subtle. Under a sink, bathrooms,
- 0:11of course, are always going to be a source of moisture because of hot showers. What people should
- 0:15really do is look for chloroxides not kill mold. Yeah, it's not what you want to use from all
- 0:20radiation. Mold a super resilient and you're not going to kill it with fungicides or chemicals
- 0:26like decon, not non-effectively. You don't want to try to have some company come out and spray
- 0:32some type of anti-funkel fog. If your goal is to get rid of the mold, you remove the mold. You
- 0:38don't kill it. Mold is not your enemy. Mold is doing its job. Unfortunately, you're housed
- 0:44something's wrong and that's it's your cue to fix that. But you're not going to kill the mold
- 0:48by fogging it. You're just going to make it more volatile. You're going to make it release more
- 0:52microtoxins because you're just going to frankly piss it off and it's going to try to protect
- 0:56itself just like you would if somebody came in and tried to rob you. What are three things
- 1:01they can do to feel better after being mold sick? Number one.
- 1:09Dr. Peter, welcome to non-tops of living podcast. We've known each other a long time. You've
- 1:15have an amazing journey of healing, of hope, getting sick again,
- 1:19loss. You spin through a lie. From that, you have so much wisdom, so much love to help others.
- 1:27I want you to share that with everyone here today and let's start with a few of your stories.
- 1:33You've been through so many challenges and I really want to use those challenges and share it
- 1:37with people so that they can have hope and experience the transformation. They deserve special
- 1:43when it comes to the topic of mold, mold illness. A lot of these other chronic diseases that are
- 1:49just ruining lives and it really shouldn't have to be that way. Yeah, mold is the tough one.
- 1:57My family was in mold for a couple of years before we realized it was mold. It was creating
- 2:03the illness. The first thing that really happened that really cut us to a major problem was our
- 2:10dog died, our little yorky. It's our family dog. Her name was Maggi. What happened at first was
- 2:21she was a major foodie. That was the way you could train her. You could give her a treat and
- 2:25she wouldn't slip over playdead all the things. She just didn't want to eat. She's really
- 2:32non-responsive to treats, to food. A lot of times she'd throw her food up. It'd take her to the
- 2:39vet and want to do exploratory. You're not exploring on my dog. But so her appetite just
- 2:48kind of caving in. It wasn't much longer after that. She started when she was walking around.
- 2:53She started bumping into walls and just her vision was going in very rapidly. Then it wasn't
- 3:01long after that. It was lost her. That was our first clue. She was an airy in the community.
- 3:10Then simultaneously, but not as aggressively, my wife was just tired. Just tired.
- 3:20Our background and with our family, for example, we've reached. We're healthy. We eat well.
- 3:24All the things anyone's ever heard me say in any of my videos or any of my books or anything
- 3:29else, we practice it. But she was on the couch. She didn't struggle to get up. She struggled to
- 3:35get off the couch. Her memory started to go. We would try to have conversations. I was trying
- 3:42to guess what the word was going to be. She knew the word. She just couldn't get it to her lips.
- 3:48So frustrating. It was really hard on our relationship. Ultimately, she just didn't want to be alive
- 3:55anymore. That was at the peak of mold for her or symptom-wise. She wasn't suicidal. She was
- 4:04aesthetic. She was like, why are we here? What's it for? My son had rashes. Just pop up all
- 4:11over his body. He would run random fevers for no reason, or not for no reason. But for no,
- 4:17a discernible reason, discernible reason as to why. Then I was super tired. I mean, I'm up
- 4:244.35 a.m. guy. I was struggling to get out of bed at 7.7.30. I gained weight. I had
- 4:33cherry angioma, little cherry dots popping up all over my skin. I would just get real weepy.
- 4:40I would just cry, I don't know, or for no reason. You're reminding me of all the symptoms
- 4:47of moan illness that I had. It's making me emotional. Just remembering, just crying for no reason.
- 4:55My gosh. I don't think everybody knows, but you taught functional medicine doctors on how to
- 5:02help mold sick patients. You knew this information, and you still got a moldy house. It still got
- 5:09you. It doesn't discriminate on the amount of knowledge and wisdom you have. It's still a silent
- 5:16killer in your home. It even affected somebody who got past somebody who knows. I would consider
- 5:24you an expert in mold illness, and you probably helped so many people get their houses remediated,
- 5:29and it was hiding in your walls. But continue with the knife twisting into my heart, because it's
- 5:36so sad. To me, because I remember those feelings, and I know that people listening have
- 5:42those same feelings in it, it does destroy marriages. I did a docu-series home sick home,
- 5:47which you know about with Dr. Pedram, and you can see in both the homes that we did the docu-series,
- 5:53they pretty much, there were some of them were kind of still fighting on it, and then some of them
- 5:57were also admitting like we had to separate, but it was the mold in the house that was destroying
- 6:03the nervous system that was making them reactive, and then one is not as sick as the other, and
- 6:09the bottom falls out, and it was literally not a bad marriage. It was a sick home. Yeah, for sure,
- 6:16it has its way on the mind, you know, it's a neurotoxin. In our home, it was in the home,
- 6:22we just built it when we found mold the first time, and it was an ice maker. It was improperly
- 6:30connected, and so it was leaking into the floor, and it had a tremendous amount of mold growing in
- 6:36like a pony wall. That was found relatively quick. We didn't, nobody got sick at that point,
- 6:44but that was our first kind of obvious water damage to the home, but that first year we had,
- 6:52was this a new home? Brand new? Brand new homes are not immune. As a matter of fact, I would
- 6:58argue that brand new homes are probably more problematic and say homes built in the 80s,
- 7:03and simply because quality of labor, quality of workmanship, you had better quality in those days
- 7:12than you do now. It was a local contractor. It wasn't a big, you know, corporate home company
- 7:17who had a reputation in town to build nice homes. It wasn't these big builders that just stamp out
- 7:22homes. No, it was a custom home building. How did you get a custom home building? Yeah. Yeah, it was
- 7:28we got some land and we have a farm, and so this was kind of what we, the dream, we were
- 7:35wanting. It was our dream. At first year, we had probably close to a dozen calls in on the HVAC
- 7:44system, because it just wouldn't cool. It wouldn't heat properly. It wouldn't cool properly,
- 7:49but ultimately it wouldn't dehumidify properly. So what happened in our house was all the construction
- 7:58defects led to an accumulation of moisture. There's no, aside from the lice maker, it was predominantly
- 8:05aerosolized moisture. So it wasn't like obvious pipe leaks, that kind of thing. But the HVAC system
- 8:12was so botched that it couldn't keep up with the humidity and their solution to that was to lie
- 8:19to us and to adjust the humidity digitally so that it looked like it was below 55%.
- 8:27And so basically the line, we didn't find that out until later when we had forensic analysis
- 8:33done, we brought in our own HVAC experts to of them just to get two differing opinions that matched.
- 8:40And then we brought in a forensic architect and a forensic building guy who they did
- 8:47deconstruction on different aspects of the home to try to discern why the mold grew. And honestly,
- 8:54it grew for every reason that mold could grow, they made mistakes. So think of it as the death
- 9:00by a thousand cuts. Every corner you could cut that would allow for moisture penetration into the
- 9:04home pretty much happened with our build. I think it was God, honestly. You know, prior,
- 9:13prior to experiencing mold, I actually prayed that God would quit sending chronically
- 9:19mold sick patients to my clinic because they're tough. They're tough cases for many reasons,
- 9:25mostly psychological ones. You know, people don't want to believe that mold is the problem.
- 9:30People don't want to believe their house is killing them. Yeah, it is tough. You know, you get the
- 9:35whole, the whole psychology game and some types of people are offended. You know, they're good house
- 9:39keepers or good house cleaners, but they, they think mold is dirty. Yeah. And so then they take
- 9:44offense. There's just a thousand scenarios at the end. And when it's mold and it's your home sick,
- 9:50it's the very sanctuary of psychology in America. You have your little, little home and it's your
- 9:54safety. And that's kind of on purpose with the psychology of building America is getting the
- 10:01homes. And if you take that away from someone, it's the psychological belief. It's almost like
- 10:09if you're a medical doctor realizing that, hey, maybe the medications I'm putting people on,
- 10:14right, are actually hurting and not helping. If you're a dentist and you're putting
- 10:17your mark in your mouth and feelings in and to believe that those actually are poisoned and
- 10:21they are, it's a fact. And it's why they're banned in other countries. And if I stick a meter
- 10:25in your mouth, you know, it's like, it's a fact, but they don't want to believe it because it,
- 10:30it, it undermines their security financially in better homes, even, even more of a challenge
- 10:36because you're undermining, depending on someone's personality, they're safety. But that's why it's
- 10:42so important because it is a clean home's either, I mean, a safe home's either going to make you
- 10:47help you heal and rest. It's your second skin. And besides your real skin, it's the thing
- 10:51that's protecting you from the outdoor environment. It's your cave. And if your cave is moldy,
- 10:57there's no, there's no happiness in your life. Yeah, yeah, it, it definitely. So for us, it was
- 11:04that first year, all the HVAT calls, health slowly deteriorating, my dog getting sick,
- 11:12my wife getting sick, my son getting sick, me getting sick, I was probably the least affected
- 11:18because that was there, the least, which is very common. It's about dose and time of exposure. So,
- 11:24you know, my wife stays home, my son stays home. It was during COVID, so it was really staying home.
- 11:30Yeah. And by the time we found it, we had been through, you know, several inspections,
- 11:39several were, were by the builders inspector because our house was still, you know, under,
- 11:44under the limitation of the warranty. So they brought out their own mold inspector, who found mold,
- 11:51they found 9200, I think was the number of Aspergillus and penicillin in the air.
- 11:55And it's a big number. Yeah, it's a big number. Anything really over 500s high. So we were at 9200,
- 12:01they tried to gaslight us. Their solution was to scrub the air and then to repeat an air test.
- 12:07Oh gee, you know, immediately after turning off the air scrubber, like, no shit, that was,
- 12:12that was what they tried to pull on us. And at that point, I didn't know that you were a,
- 12:18they did position, they did. And I had, I had many meetings, you know, with my concerns about
- 12:25mold and water intrusion potential. Yeah, and it's this, it's the same old story. Probably most
- 12:31people get when they're trying to build a hollow. Yeah, we're going to build a great home for you.
- 12:35No, none of our homes have mold. And then we do a great job at the end of the day.
- 12:41I'll never do it in that way again. And actually, we rebuilt a home at this point where we,
- 12:46and you just moved in this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We micromanage. So thank you. Yeah. Yeah, we
- 12:50micromanage the whole process with experts to try to avoid another, another complication,
- 12:58because that's another big factor is people get out of mold in the mold. And I didn't want to,
- 13:02I didn't want to repeat this. Oh, and it's so hard. I've seen that with, we had that, you know,
- 13:07I had a functional medicine coaching company for all those years. And so we hear all these horror
- 13:11stories. And someone would move, change their life, get rid of all their furniture, you know,
- 13:17and start over and get tricked. Yeah. And not have the right inspector, the right expert to come
- 13:23in and test the new home, or they moved emotionally. And then they have to do it all over again.
- 13:28And then the financial devastation, like it's, it's sad, even talking about it, right? And you
- 13:33have to continue to work. It literally, it's probably, in my opinion, and I think that you may
- 13:41agree it's probably one of the mold is one of the greatest insults to the, to humans health,
- 13:49especially in America, because of building practices. Yeah. Because there's more chronic disease
- 13:53than almost anything else. I mean, I, you could eat a crappy diet and still be healthy.
- 13:57You can't live in a moldy home unless you have really strong detox genetics, which even
- 14:03dead, it's matter of time. Yeah, it's matter of time. People say, I'm that mold sensitive.
- 14:07Everyone is sensitive to a toxin. It's like you can't drink arsenic and expect not to eventually
- 14:12die. Like it will kill you. Some people detox it better than others, but it's eventually going to,
- 14:16you know, do what it's meant to do, which is take you out and feed off you. Yeah. That's kind of
- 14:22funny. I guess that's it's, it's goal, right? Yeah. Mold is definitely insidious. And by the time
- 14:30we got our own inspector, you know, and what's interesting is again, we had four inspections.
- 14:38Two of those four were positive, even by our builder, who, you know, they don't want to find it.
- 14:43But when we brought in our own person, like five minutes, they found photographic evidence
- 14:47of mold growing behind her walls. And it wasn't, you know, it wasn't, and that's hard to find by
- 14:52the way. Like just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Yeah. It can be a type of
- 14:55mold that's kind of microscopic or clear. It might look like dust. It looks like geographic,
- 15:02or not geographic, but geometric patterns of dust on the posterior aspect of sheet rock. So,
- 15:09if you put a nice, fiber optic camera behind the wall cavity with the right hyphenate
- 15:14TransLED type of light, you can actually see almost like fractal patterns and growth. And, and
- 15:20that they found it, you know, very quickly. So they, they knew it was a problem. Then I,
- 15:25then I had them come back out and do a full forensic eval where they took wall cavity samples and
- 15:31they took swab samples and tape lifts and, you know, additional testing, including HVAC and investigation
- 15:41and forensic deconstruction of the home to determine where moisture was coming in. Why we had,
- 15:48so we had, when we did wall cavity samples versus regular air samples, pretty much no less than,
- 15:58I don't remember exactly the numbers. I don't have them here in primary, but it was like 30,000 or more
- 16:04depending on the wall cavity and some wall cavities were multiple hundreds of thousands of,
- 16:08you know, aspergillus, penicillium, catomium, stachybotris. So all the bad stuff,
- 16:16all wetter damage. Yeah. And then they used a smoke device to determine whether or not our walls
- 16:21were breathing all that stuff into our living space. And you could follow the smoke and they're
- 16:26just coming out of the wall cavity right into our, into our breathing space. So once, once we knew,
- 16:32like the day we had that first inspection done where where they gave us evidence, we left a house,
- 16:38we just walked out, closed on our back, stayed in an extended stay hotel for two months,
- 16:42that's where we lived. And you have no choice because everything you have is contaminated,
- 16:46making you sick, you need new clothes, you need new furniture, if you can't wipe it down, you're done.
- 16:50Well, I've had enough experience with people dying in mold, I've got to see, is probably one of
- 16:56the few things prior to pandemic that I've seen people actually die from in my practice, who refused
- 17:02to leave it. And I wasn't about to keep my family in an environment that you were losing your
- 17:07wife. Yeah. So perhaps you didn't get an autoimmune condition or something. Well, she recovered
- 17:13really well. Once we got out within about two months, you know, she was speaking really well
- 17:20again. I mean, it wasn't perfect, but like she could recall words, she could finish sentences,
- 17:26her energy had improved. My son's rash has completely disappeared. He no longer got fever,
- 17:32his stomach quit hurting because he had a tremendous amount of just random stomach pain,
- 17:36an adequate crying. And you know, we all had a semblance of hope and health back to a certain extent.
- 17:43We just then at that point needed to figure out what the next steps needed to be, because yeah,
- 17:47you've walked out of your house, you don't have anything. You have the ability to live in this
- 17:54hotel, unfortunately, but what's the next step? So for us, we bought a mobile home and we moved in
- 18:01next door. We thought this is a short-term solution. Now, you believe that the justice system would
- 18:09swiftly help us, you know, reconcile. It's toxic too. Yeah, yeah, it is. And it was also during
- 18:16COVID. So like, try during a pandemic to get people to coordinate lawyers to coordinate
- 18:23going every excuse on the book at this point. Everybody's thing enough. One week they got COVID,
- 18:27the next week they're recovering from COVID, the next week they're family members got COVID,
- 18:31it just you can write every and you can't it's a yeah. Yeah, so that time I got to do is
- 18:37mention COVID and you can get out anything. Right. Yeah, so by the time we get our day in court,
- 18:42it'll be almost six years. And, you know, a year ago or so, we said we're just, you know,
- 18:50we finally realized that this isn't going to be swift. We're not going to wait on that to
- 18:56happen. We couldn't tear down our house because it's evidence. So what we decided to do,
- 19:00we live in a farm. So we just decided to build a barn and inside the barn, we call it a barn
- 19:06dominium. So basically it's a small home within a barn and we had it constructed
- 19:16with several experts who were experts in air flow and air movement. Is it going to be your huh?
- 19:21It's going to be my home net for now. Yeah, so and then are you going to so people can stay there
- 19:27it's like a like an outbuilding that someone can stay and be safe and then you can turn the rest
- 19:32into a gym or well, yeah, or a Azure or a barn. Yeah. Do you live on the on the first floor?
- 19:40Do you live? Yeah, it's just one story. It's a small farm in a medium and so you might just
- 19:45think. We might. You know, that's the whole thing. The bigger homes, people think bigger homes
- 19:50are better. They're just more responsibility. More things can go wrong. More ways for mold and water
- 19:55dimensionally can, you know, just more problems. Yeah, potentially. Yeah, for sure.
- 20:03You know, we're just happy to move on and get out of the trailer. All right, and we went through.
- 20:07We went through. I grew up on a trailer. I loved my trailer. Her cane barrel last year came
- 20:13through and I was in my wife was visiting her parents in Missouri and my son was with her and
- 20:19so I was there by myself in this trailer during the hurricane and the whole thing is moving
- 20:28in shaking. Of course, yeah, you've got you've got all these sounds, right? And what ultimately
- 20:34what happened? I didn't know until the next day, but a tornado came through the property. So it
- 20:39was just a hurricane. It was a tornado offshoot knocked out 11 big matured trees on the
- 20:47big tornado. Yeah, big tornado. And I was like, that's why it was so loud. That's why it sounded
- 20:53so ominous. And it was after that, I'm like, we're not staying here. I'm not, I'm not going to
- 21:01be still here in Texas. Is it tornadoes in Texas? Oh, yeah. Yeah, we get, well, we're on the coast.
- 21:05So we get hurricanes and tornadoes. So it's we kind of both both aspects of great wind.
- 21:12You know, we need to move. I'm teasing. Yeah, yeah. But before you continue with this story,
- 21:17I want people to back up like in the building industry, they're not on your side. They don't like
- 21:22mold. Builders don't like mold. They don't want to take responsibility for their actions.
- 21:25Their contracts suck. You know, they're all these things that you don't know about legal
- 21:31and contracts because they've been through legal disputes. They changed their contracts to put
- 21:36it in their favor that you can't sue. They put arbitration clauses. They do everything to protect
- 21:41them not to protect you. So you can't trust your builder. Even if it's your friend, you need to have
- 21:46a lawyer review your building contract and say, Hey, if this goes to litigation and they screw up,
- 21:52who's responsible? You got to hold people accountable today. It's just no way around it because most
- 21:57people are. And so when it comes the mold, you go to buy a home, they do an air sample.
- 22:02They could have scrubbed it before they took it. And it doesn't, and sometimes the mold doesn't
- 22:06get into the living space, but it's still in the wall or it's not that day. It was low. It was
- 22:13a low moisture day or the air pressure and the barometric pressure was putting pressure so that
- 22:18stuff was moving out. It wasn't high barometric pressure. We was pushing air into your home,
- 22:23like a balloon or a plastic bag or whatever, depending on the day. So the mold test things
- 22:29inferior today. You had to do forensic analysis. Yeah, I think the mistake people make when
- 22:35they're hiring a mold inspector is to hire someone who's under trained and doesn't understand it.
- 22:42And they come out and they rely on air sampling as the primary tool for investigation.
- 22:47Air sampling is, it's like running a CBC on a person with chronic autoimmune disease.
- 22:53Good luck. They're going to have a normal CBC 9 out of 10 times. And the doctor is going to look
- 22:58at him as, oh, your blood work looks good. You must be healthy or crazy. That was me. Yeah,
- 23:05and that's what air testing is. So air testing can be valuable if you find it. But the
- 23:10propensity for it to be falsely negative is very high. According to the who, the World Health
- 23:14Organization, they have a whole section on dampness, building dampness and mold. And if you
- 23:21read it, you know, they're on statement is you need a minimum of 27 air tests to successfully
- 23:26assess and indoor air space. And so most of these guys that come in, they do an outdoor control
- 23:32sample. They do maybe one or two samples on the inside of your house. There's no real visual
- 23:38inspection. They're not using thermal cameras. They're not using hydrometers or humidity measurements.
- 23:45They're not doing surface sampling or dust sampling, dust sampling, MSQ PCR. They're really just
- 23:51not being thorough. But the average person doesn't understand mold. And it doesn't understand
- 23:58these things. And they just, you're in a motion. You want to buy a house. You want it to be
- 24:01mold clean free because you want to move and you love the property, you love the garden,
- 24:05you love the pool. And you emotionally make a decision that's literally going to take your life.
- 24:10Yeah. Absolutely. So you have to be careful. I would say if you're building a house,
- 24:16don't sign an arbitration clause. And most of the big box builders won't build your house.
- 24:21If you don't sign it, not to me, like take away their business, like let them feel the pain
- 24:26of the financial loss of not being able to sell crappy homes to a bunch of innocent people who are,
- 24:32you know, most people are going to spend and when they invest in their home, it's the biggest
- 24:37investment they're going to have, right? So financially, it can ruin a family. It can devastate
- 24:42a family. So protect yourself on the front end. Don't sign an arbitration clause. We had an
- 24:48arbitration clause. I didn't know this before, right? I didn't know. I wasn't, you know, I wasn't,
- 24:53I wasn't experienced in that way. So our last builder on most recent, when we had, we took out
- 24:58the arbitration clause, I refused to hire anybody who would make us or put us in a position where we
- 25:03wouldn't have a trial by jury. Because jury trial is going to be, you know, you had to understand
- 25:09who arbitrators are. Arbitrators are usually lawyers or judges. And in an arbitration scenario,
- 25:16many of these arbitrators get a lot of their business from the building industry. So they may not
- 25:21receive the money directly under the table for a nod in the wing, but is their decision going to
- 25:27be influenced by, you know, by a, by a business or by a, by an entity that leads to a lot of their
- 25:37revenue in their profession. It absolutely will be. Yeah. I mean, just, well, it's like direct to
- 25:42consumer pharmacy advertising. Did that affect news? Did that affect radio? Did that affect
- 25:48everything that happened in the last six years? Of course it did. A thousand percent. We took
- 25:53the concept, the pumps that come to our, our docu series. And I know that you're going to bring
- 25:59your docu series. What's it called mold? Mold jacked. Mold jacked. Love it. So jacked up like,
- 26:06you got mold jacked. You got mold jacked. You got hijacked. You got jacked up.
- 26:10They literally said, you know, it's, it's a, it gets to the root cause of disease. And, you know,
- 26:16we have, and the downy sheets and, you know, the whole, the cleaning industry, like all of our
- 26:23sponsors, you know, we'd lose sponsors. It was like, there's no way. And then there weren't even
- 26:27about this as a matter of fact. It's like, no way we can do it because it's, it's in competition,
- 26:34you know, with, with their message. And, you know, it's going to hurt their numbers. And that's what
- 26:38pays for our, keeps our doors, doors open in our lights on. You're going to have to find another
- 26:43route. Right. So then we had to do, you know, Facebook and Instagram and people like you sending
- 26:49for it to your patients to educate them and clients. So that's not like conspiracy. You know,
- 26:56some things are conspiracy. Although I have to say, you know, things that I thought were conspiracy
- 27:00have now come true. So I've had to eat my own words. I'm like, ah, just money. You know,
- 27:05sometimes it's even more than that. So, you know, things that, you know, like,
- 27:10chemtrails, like I'm still, I still have a hard time believing it when I see them in the sky.
- 27:14And, but now it's a fact. And, uh, I don't know how big of a fact it is. I'm sure there's,
- 27:19there's exaggeration on summons and under exaggeration on others. But, you know, my buddies
- 27:25used to, yeah, point at the sky and say, yeah, tell us. I'm like, come on. It's just a different
- 27:32type of gasoline that they're using now. You know, jet fuels change. It doesn't disappear now.
- 27:36And that's probably true. But I think, uh, they, they may be spraying at higher
- 27:41atmospheres. They say that they do now. They say they have evidence. So I don't know. I'm off track.
- 27:45But the bottom line is, is that, uh, you know, their money does control out of this and the
- 27:51building industry does not like mold. And inspectors don't like mold. They don't like anything that
- 27:56will kill the deal. Well, inspectors love charging $500 to do 10 minutes worth of work.
- 28:03Thanks for the great life. Yeah. I mean, you can, you can bounce around the 15 houses today.
- 28:09You know, and, um, not really do an inspection, but say you did an inspection. And, um,
- 28:15you know, that's the air test, right? It just, it's just an over relied upon technology that was
- 28:21never designed to be the end all be all of whether or not a home or building contain mold. So
- 28:27I think people should know when they're going into higher. If you're suspecting mold, like, don't,
- 28:32don't rely on an air test for, um, for the final say, you can do one, um, but it should just be
- 28:40part of a comprehensive inspection, not the inspection itself. So kind of that. If you want to
- 28:45queue up, what are the questions that when you're trying to find a higher inspector? Yeah.
- 28:49Question number one, do you do wall cavity samples? Question number two. And on the answers to all
- 28:56these need to be yes, right? And if the answers know, you should just like hang up the phone, don't
- 29:00waste your money. Do you do wall cavity samples? Do you use infrared? Do you have humidity measurement
- 29:07tools where you can measure humidity and, and hard wall surfaces or floors? Do you pop open the H
- 29:13rack and look inside, look at the coil, look at the plenum? Do you walk to house? Do you walk the
- 29:18attic? Do you inspect the perimeter? Do you look on the roof? Do you, um, do you have an experience
- 29:28in mold litigation? Now, not all of them will, but many of they've really good inspectors
- 29:34will have an experience where they are regularly representing legal battles for homeowners who
- 29:40have mold in their home due to faulty construction. So those, some of those mold inspectors
- 29:45are the best ones to hire because they have a forensic understanding of how to do it appropriately.
- 29:50Yeah, there's, yeah, put it this way. There's badass inspectors out there that want to protect you
- 29:55and they cost more, but they're amazing. No, they, they cost less because, yes, because by the time
- 30:02you spend $500, hiring two bad ones, you're still going to end up having to choke out the money
- 30:09to hire a good one if you're trying to build it. Yeah, and from that, yeah, yeah, right, they do
- 30:12kind of cost a lot less because your health, medical bills. Yes. So you're looking to save money,
- 30:18but this is something you do not chimp out on. Don't, you never cut corners on
- 30:22who you hire as a mold inspector and never cut corners on who you hire as a remediation team.
- 30:26If, if your house can be remediated, if that's a possibility, one, one interesting thing that,
- 30:32that we've now seen a few times and it's relatively new is the use of mold inspection dogs.
- 30:39Oh, that's amazing. Yeah. So we've had a few cases now where, you know, because mold
- 30:44inspections also not a perfect art. I mean, you can get somebody's really good, but you can still
- 30:49miss a ton of things, some things. And so it's just another thing that can be done where you
- 30:54bring in a dog that's been trained to sniff out mold. And sometimes they can find areas where
- 30:59there's mold. We had one last week where the dog found a spot near a window that had mold in it
- 31:07that did they went undetected because it was inside the wall cavity and it just there was no water
- 31:12damage evidence around that wall cavity. So I've heard that story over and over and over again,
- 31:18mold dogs, like they're, it's kind of funny, mold dog. I just think of myself as a mold dog. I
- 31:22go into a, you, I think your neurology kind of like, I don't know if you're like that and go
- 31:27into home, like there's mold in here. And, and I've seen people like a mold dog identify mold.
- 31:34There's mold over there. Really weird. I don't know what happens, but the, if a human can do that,
- 31:41and I've seen humans do it, particularly a doctor friend of mine. And how much more
- 31:47can a dog who's sensitive to energies and smells and, you know, they're, I don't know what their
- 31:52senses are, like how many more times, but it's, they're, it's a very effective. It's kind of funny.
- 31:59That's, I think it's one of the best ways to inspect your own. I honestly do.
- 32:03Yeah. Ultimately, I think is many, if you're chronically ill, as many resources you can afford
- 32:11to help you understand the Y aspect around mold better. So, but at any rate, those are the,
- 32:19those are the top types of things you really want to ask. Those are mold inspectors concerned.
- 32:24Don't settle for somebody who's just going to run an air test and really let your hackles be raised
- 32:29when a mold inspector tries to tell you, well, those other tests are kind of expensive. And you
- 32:34just, you know, you should just do this. And that means that mold inspector doesn't understand
- 32:39mold illness. If they're not willing to go out and test the check a box. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:42Because remember, they're, they're trying to move on to the next house. That's a lot like a doctor's
- 32:46office. I got to see 30 patients today. I only get three or five minutes. Yeah. I want to,
- 32:51I want to sell this house and stop, you know, I want to get this deal so I can do the next one.
- 32:55Yeah. So they're, they're not your advocate is my point. Like, you have to be your own advocate.
- 33:00You have to write, I'd really learn to ask the right questions around mold inspection. And,
- 33:05you know, once you do that, you, and you can get it thorough inspection done. Now you have a
- 33:09shot at finding there's two things you need to understand about what the inspection is designed to do
- 33:14or designed for that. Number one reason you get a mold inspection is to find the mold. Number two
- 33:18reason you get it is to find out why the mold grew. And a good mold inspector can answer both of
- 33:23those questions because they can find it. A lot of times they'll find it. But if you just remediate it,
- 33:30you don't know why it grew and you don't solve that. It's just going to grow back, right?
- 33:35Mold always grows because of moisture. Your house is mold food. Doesn't matter if it's made
- 33:39at a glass or concrete. It doesn't matter if you've got hemp. It doesn't matter what materials
- 33:46you use your house to be built out of mold's gift. God gave the gift of mold to destroy and
- 33:52erode everything and return it back to the soil. Given enough time, given enough water
- 33:58as the kind of the fuel source for mold to thrive. So if your house has a moisture issue, whether
- 34:04that be directly just a humidity problem or whether it be some kind of hidden water leak,
- 34:11it's enough to create mold growth. And so that's why you want to know why the mold grew. Where's
- 34:17the water coming from? For a lot of homes, what we see clinically in our patients is
- 34:24it's in the HVAC. The HVACs are either oversized. So what happens when you put a big old HVAC system
- 34:30on a small house? People think bigger is better, right? You cool the house so quickly that it can't
- 34:36be properly demitified because the houses are built so tight that they cool quickly and they're
- 34:42so energy efficient. They hold onto that cool a lot longer. And so what happens is that AC kicks
- 34:48on. It may run 10 minutes in the hour, but it's supposed to run kind of consistently to demitify
- 34:55the air in the home, especially if you live in a climate where there is more humidity. And I take
- 35:00this so serious. That's why I moved to lower humid. That's why I moved to Utah because I wanted to
- 35:06get, I didn't want to fight mold anymore because if you get a water damage in a home, it's so hard
- 35:10in Pennsylvania because of the humidity just to knock it down. So you need to get it,
- 35:16you know, if if you have something gets wet, you need to get it below 50% and like 12 hours.
- 35:21It's not even 24 hours. You're getting mold growth. And so it's so hard for me. I'm like, I'm out.
- 35:26So I was kind of teasing when you should move. Maybe you should now get keep going back.
- 35:31You're like, I just built my dream home, dude. I got my chicken. My family, my practice. Yeah, I know.
- 35:36I'm all the people that have mold problems that need me to stay then. And that's what I love about
- 35:41you, man. You got a heart for people, a heart for God. You're no bullshit. And it's really cool.
- 35:47But for me, I mean, it's such a serious problem. You know, we, I practice what I preach. If you come
- 35:54to Salt Lake, come visit me, I'm going to actually launch my podcast out of my home. I'm going to
- 36:00move the studio into my home because I want people to see that I practice what I preach. And the
- 36:05reason I left because I was so serious about mold, I wanted to be in an environment where it was
- 36:10easier to, so if I get water leak in my house, I, you know, wipe it up for on some fans. You know,
- 36:16I'm always at 30% humidity. It's it's gone. It's it's one less thing because it's 70% of
- 36:23homes, according to experts have significant enough amounts of mold that's going to make you
- 36:27sit. That's what experts say. And now you can look at, you know, the EPA or who or, you know, but
- 36:34their numbers are like 40%. You know, you know, EPA, EPA says it or is it nyosh? I think it's nyosh
- 36:41says that 50% of buildings in the US are water damaged. And a lot of that research is can,
- 36:47it's taken from multiple studies and they've, you know, thrown all these studies together and did
- 36:51didn't like a kind of meta analysis of, you know, where how much mold or how much water or how
- 36:57much history of water damage is here or there. And it's kind of an average of half half one out of
- 37:03two. You just want to look at it that way. So you have a 50 50 shot. And I would say it's probably
- 37:09higher. Depending on a number of variable factors, I don't want to take away hope either. I think
- 37:15I think there certainly places people were here to still hope. Peter, this is our job today. Yeah.
- 37:20So, so, but a lot of people, that's the thing. They don't get out of their mold because they
- 37:25fear they're going to just get into mold and they're thinking because they look at the statistic
- 37:28like that and think, well, you know, I'm not going to spend all this money to do that. And then,
- 37:32you know, not know where I'm going to land. And that's a valid logical argument to make.
- 37:39But sometimes less mold is better. And that's where a lot, like a lot of times when people
- 37:44are getting out of it, like get out of it first or get into a smaller environment where you can
- 37:51get your brain back. Because part of what happens in mold, it's so insidious in the brain, it steals
- 37:57your capacity for high function, right? So, you don't make good decisions. And then you have a
- 38:04hard time making any decisions like because you get decision overload, you basically, you're so
- 38:09stressed that making a small decision, you can't handle it, right? So, the reason I want to back
- 38:15up right there, what you said is so important. And many people listening to this, if you're in a
- 38:22moldy home, it might go over your head and because you have brain fog, but in this is because
- 38:27you work with sick people and you help people through that, you give them energy, you help them
- 38:31make good decisions because you literally, it's a neurological toxin that gives you massive
- 38:37brain fog. It's the inability your testosterone is in the bucket. You literally don't know how to
- 38:43make good decisions for yourself. It's almost like you're so sick that you're just going to continue
- 38:51to make mistakes. You'll make a rash decision or no decision at all and it's so important when
- 38:56you're sick to find someone that you love and trust enough because when you're sick like this,
- 39:01you stop not trusting people either, like you get paranoid and you need to find someone to have
- 39:07an advocate, whether it's a practitioner like yourself, you know, a mold inspector that really
- 39:13knows what he's doing and really cares about people because there's people with great hearts today.
- 39:18There's a movement towards people just stop doing things for money but actually
- 39:24deliver value so that that fills their soul. There's a value exchange, so there's people out there
- 39:31that'll be your advocate and it was those people in my life that helped me make my decisions when
- 39:35I couldn't make decisions for myself. Financial decisions, relationship decisions, like when you're sick,
- 39:43you need advocates, you need people around you to speak life into you and to help you along the
- 39:47way. Don't do it alone. If you're too sick to make those decisions, find someone that you love and
- 39:53trust that cares about you that is successful, that isn't fear-based, that says we're going to find
- 40:04you a clean home, we're going to help you find, I'm going to help you find somewhere where you can
- 40:08live and get healthy again because you were right in saying that there's mold everywhere and you can
- 40:17find safe homes, all homes are going to have some level of mold in it but if you can get a much
- 40:22lower exposure to where your body can handle it, open your windows, whatever you need to do to
- 40:27get healthy again and then you can slowly perfect your home over time. You're always going to,
- 40:32if I just found a whole bunch of mold in my house and it was doing relatively fine, none of us
- 40:39were sick but my daughter had some flamed lymph nodes, she was getting headaches, that's not normal
- 40:43for a 10-year-old, people think that that's normal and just give her aspirin but I knew and then
- 40:50ran a vibrant wellness test on me and I had elevated water damage and what I don't know which one
- 40:56it was but the micotoxin and I'm like we have, we have mold somewhere so I found it, you know,
- 41:02and then I had an inspector cut into a wall and we had a four foot six foot by three foot section
- 41:08of mold that another mold remediation company when I bought the homes it did have mold,
- 41:12I bought a home with mold, listen to that, like I'm a guy who's sensitive to mold and I still
- 41:17bought a home with nasty black mold in it because I knew I could clean it up and I got it cleaned up
- 41:23before I moved into it because just because it was there doesn't mean that you can't clean it up,
- 41:28it was an isolated area, it was really bad but I had it ripped out, ripped out all the insulation,
- 41:35fixed all the water damage, the source of the water tested everything and then, you know,
- 41:40air scrubbed the whole home, fogged it with parasitic acid, wiped down all the flat surfaces,
- 41:45yeah there was some probably, you know, some dead mold spores laying around and it wasn't perfect
- 41:52but moved into a home that had water damage because I knew I could make it safe,
- 41:58but the one section that they said it was safe, this one section of wall still had that black mold
- 42:04in it. So my question to you is like, I've had a couple more questions before we wrap up, if
- 42:10that black mold is sitting in there, it was stacky botrists inside of it, paste it in between
- 42:17two layers of drywall, obviously it was affecting my daughter, but how much worse would it be if it's
- 42:24dry, there's really no air flow through it, it just stuck between the walls and it's kind of
- 42:29dormant, like how bad would that mold be? Bad, still bad. Yeah because mold really sporeates
- 42:39better when it's dry, it's it's when the water's there, it can grow and get garnered resources,
- 42:45but with dryness, it's fine trying to find on. Well, it's yeah, it's trying to spread it,
- 42:50spread itself out so that it doesn't go extinct and so it's really good at sporeating better when
- 42:56it's dry. So you get, could it spore right through the drywall? Um, prolocked in, probably not,
- 43:03but you know, drywalls, not perfect either in the house's move and shift and so even if it's
- 43:09capped behind something, you're still going to get movement and potential, you know, potential
- 43:14spores coming through and if you're, you know, your daughter obviously was symptomatic. So
- 43:18she was, um, another doctor was touching her lymph, like what's much smaller than a mold
- 43:23spore is a mold toxin, right? So mold spores, um, on the order of magnitude of mycotoxins,
- 43:31like 0.3 microns, so tiny. So you can't filter it out. Yeah, size of a virus, basically. So
- 43:38could that move through your through that wall, you know, because it's not perfectly sealed,
- 43:43she rock may be touching, but there's air in there. Oh, there's air in there. Yep. And so those,
- 43:47and it was dead ended on mine. Yeah. It was actually three layers and it was, you know, on two
- 43:52the layers. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, definitely would be toxic, even in that type of situation.
- 43:58Um, yeah. So hopefully that answers it. That doesn't answer my question. It was disappointing,
- 44:03but I mean, I probably knew that was what you're going to say. Hey, good, but I just wanted to ask
- 44:07you because I know you know so much. So what are the three areas of a home that are most likely to have
- 44:12mold? That's a great question. Number one, be the HVAC system. And the problem with that is that
- 44:19HVAC system being the lungs of your house are going to send that mold in every corner and
- 44:25nook and cranny of your house, right? So if you've got mold growing on your coils, now you've got
- 44:30mold settling and mycotoxins and mold debris settling in on all of your furnishings and your
- 44:35carpets and your anything fabric based is just going to absorb those things into it like a sponge.
- 44:42So number one problem we see is HVAC systems being poorly maintenanceed. Or if they're,
- 44:50depending on where you live, the practices, the building practices, they put those machines
- 44:54up in the attic. So you have those tremendous temperature variants between the hot attic in
- 44:59the summer and that 70 degree or 68 degree cold air inside your ducts. But if those ducts,
- 45:06if the seal on them breaks, then now you get hot attic air meeting cold 70 degree air and that's
- 45:12condensation, right? You get a rain. The water glass effect. Yeah. So that's how a lot of times
- 45:18mold grows in HVAC systems. So to me, if you're trying like what's the high hanging for or low
- 45:23hanging for it that you could really keep your eye on to minimize it is have your HVAC system
- 45:29maintenance at least a couple of times a year by an HVAC company who understands mold. Yeah,
- 45:37you know, that would be one aspect. Other couple of common places behind a dishwasher is a common one
- 45:44because the leak will be subtle under a sink, kind of a dishwasher sink combo. You've got those
- 45:51pipes going through there very commonly. We'll see especially in housewives where they're staying
- 45:58home and you know, it's been a lot of their time cooking and they're right there over that sink
- 46:03next to that dishwasher and they're the sickest one because they're right there in that locality.
- 46:08Bathrooms of course are always going to be a source of moisture because of hot showers people
- 46:13kid showering kid kid showering adult showering adult male but but the fans that they put in install
- 46:24sometimes they just go right into the attic space. There's no they do mysterious. Where did that
- 46:28fan go? It went into your attic and it made your attic moldy. Yeah. So that's another thing. It's
- 46:32like if you have a fan, make sure it's a lot of them. They just dead end them into the attic and I
- 46:37don't that shouldn't be code anymore. No, it shouldn't. It shouldn't be going out of the home. Well,
- 46:42I had one of those dead like in my house in Pennsylvania. It was a townhouse. It was it was dead
- 46:49ended right in the old uh yeah and there's mold all over where it was blowing on all the insulation
- 46:55and which is all black mold. It's wonderful. Yeah, always fun. Every home I've been in it's head mold
- 47:00yeah like visible mold every single one I haven't I've only had three all of them that had
- 47:07done surprise me. Bathrooms also if you have a tile lining in like your shower. The grout
- 47:16that they use is supposed to be a water impermeable grout but it's a really expensive grout.
- 47:24And so what a lot of builders do is they just use standard grout on those tiles.
- 47:28So now I'm scared because I think that's probably my house. Yeah, if they're if if if you don't
- 47:34know the answer to that you should go and find the answer to that because the likelihood that
- 47:40there's water emanating or seeping through that shower wall is very high. That was part of our
- 47:45our more of our problems as well. We had we had the wrong grout. I've always you just confirmed
- 47:52one of my fears. I'm like I wonder if you know but just like everyone else I'm busy I don't want to
- 47:57do with another problem. People I don't feel that sick right now. So I mean yeah, you got to be
- 48:03motivated by illness. It's crazy. Like if if I start getting sick or seeing my daughter then I'll
- 48:07look but it's yeah it's so I I can empathize with you know people then they just don't want to
- 48:17do with another thing in our lives right but it's something we need to focus on. Nobody wants to pull
- 48:22their head out of the sand and say it's mold because if you if you know what that means
- 48:27it's expensive and probably sometimes it's not sometimes we get really lucky it's just a real
- 48:32simple fix as the removal but but it's it's yeah it's taxing it's tough it's expensive and it
- 48:40may lead to a bigger finding you know and they say oh I'll have a little here a lot of times when
- 48:45you start pulling things back and looking it's when you start finding more and you're like oh yeah
- 48:51that's what I had a little spot that I ignored in my bedroom um but after my daughter and after
- 48:56my test I had it looked at and of course it was much more mold than when I thought it wasn't just
- 49:01little dot it was all through right in my bedroom yeah so I you know here I am you know and I
- 49:07talked to some medicine doctors mold remediation you know I'm an environmental you know scientists
- 49:12masters agree we dealt with mold like I know all the things and I still like get busy I'm
- 49:17emissive pathetic I'm taking care of my family bills you know all the things that we all do
- 49:21and I you know we ignore things don't ignore mold I'll say it will get your attention quite
- 49:28so continue on because these are great information the grout thing um and uh what other areas
- 49:34that are in any any place where a pipe runs um one of those one of the things that um
- 49:41that breaks really quite frequently is that little um little valve that connects your toilet
- 49:47to the wall um and so what happens to a lot of people this is more of an obvious one but um
- 49:52you go off on a weekend and that thing breaks and you come home to a foot of water in your floor
- 49:58um that's the kind of thing that you just a guaranteed mold is going to grow because you've
- 50:03been gone long enough for it to grow um but check those valves I you know that's again maintenance
- 50:08we're talking about prevention um what what what what people should should really do is look for
- 50:15signs of condensation around just the generators of their house because another common
- 50:19air is windows the windowsills the windows themselves hot cold variances between the indoor and outdoor
- 50:25I have aluminum windows and some of the ones out of my building I get um water build up all
- 50:29when and long I'm just constantly like yeah yeah I mean I'm talking a cup full of water
- 50:35in the winter that I have to wipe off and now I have little fans um little uh magnetic
- 50:42uh battery fans that blow on it yep night so I literally had it designed I was actually a
- 50:47mold remediator that told me you need to get little fans to blow on there so it doesn't do that
- 50:51it'll evaporate the moisture so I experience that this is this is a big one with your windows
- 50:56and condensation yeah tons of black mold that and they install them and properly sometimes no
- 51:02what happens is you get no weep holes around the window and into the netto invitation for water to
- 51:08seep in I mean those are those are pretty common you know outside of that standard stuff roof leaks
- 51:14you know maintenance of a house I mean houses aren't perfect and they're certainly
- 51:17they need to be maintained they have to be maintained and I think in our throw away age everybody
- 51:22is so used to convenience where we've almost got a society where it's like um we expect so much
- 51:30um but we we don't want to take care of things and I'm not saying that as an insult to people
- 51:37I'm just as guilty of it as anyone else just like oh if it breaks you just he's cheap enough we
- 51:42could just buy a new one like that's the society we live in right correct all right we grew up
- 51:46our grandmothers and grandfathers were like recycling their glass bottles right they were really
- 51:50old school green right today we're we're talking about BPA free bottle anyway that we don't want to
- 51:55dive or dive diverge off of our topic but um maintenance so get hydrometers there you can get
- 52:03them for six seven dollars on amazon not expensive put them in each room which is humidity meters
- 52:09yeah exactly good in that way you can get a get a get a footprint baseline for what kind of
- 52:14humidity levels are in your home you know during during and you'll be surprised you think that
- 52:19you know one room is you know 45 percent you might have a couple rooms 60 exactly especially
- 52:25closets they don't have airflow yeah yeah because a lot of times the airflow is going in the main
- 52:30rooms but you have that big closet and there's closed up yeah it's closed up there's no movement
- 52:36um but put hydrometers in and then just kind of you don't have to be paranoid about it but check
- 52:40out periodically and kind of log them log down like what what what what does this room look like
- 52:46on a regular basis if it's regularly 45 percent great but I follow the sudden it's now at 50 55 percent
- 52:54to look for the water look for the moisture um that's prevention have your age back
- 52:59check a couple of times a year if you do if you do a nice garden bed around your house and you've
- 53:04got sprinklers and you screw you better make sure this sprinklers aren't hitting your house and
- 53:09that's you know that's maintenance you can have that if that's what you just need to have or want
- 53:14but you know depending on what the facade of your home is made out of whether it's stucco or
- 53:19brick or or wood or siding um look that stuff breaks down and you can get places where water will
- 53:25permeate through and so those sprinkler heads in your flower beds are sometimes a source of moisture
- 53:30coming into a damaged area externally they're huge I was at uh studios I was filming studio a friend
- 53:37of mine and and there's mold in his studio but um I saw the sprinkler hitting the side of the
- 53:44thing I'm like get there's probably a ton of mold I'm like you can't do that like you're gonna
- 53:50get sick like I had to I went out and adjusted it and it did it for him because I was just so worried
- 53:55right because it's just blasting the side of his building ruining your building causing mold but
- 54:00we just go about it and think oh it's no big deal it's just water no it's not just water it's
- 54:04nature and it's gonna win yeah yeah especially if if um if it's left long enough I mean water water
- 54:13finds the way in I mean it's just it does so if there's a crack or a or a nook that it can make
- 54:19its way into and then it'll freeze and thaw in a winter have a little moisture and that you get
- 54:23it to the mansion so next summer when your sprinklers are back on it just finds an easier hole
- 54:29but but house maintenance becomes very important I'm having a checklist um check your washer
- 54:34washing machine as their places where mold grow that where that where that hook goes in and
- 54:39the water goes into the wall at a common place we find leagues make sure that underneath all of your
- 54:44sinks you're you're looking if you smell must underneath them look for the water I recommend putting
- 54:50in it make latex trays that you can put underneath those things and so that way if you do
- 54:55and they can hold up to like some of these trays they're rated to hold up to like two gallons a
- 54:59gallon of waters um and then I put um I put moisture meters everywhere like I have them
- 55:06all through my house and they send off alarm it's a it's not high EMF it's just a radio frequency
- 55:10very low I mean it's still frequency but I have them all over my house and then they if they go if
- 55:16if there's ever a detection I have like 15 of them and they're not that it was already that
- 55:19expensive like 30 bucks each the thing was expensive as the valve but I integrated them with my
- 55:26alarm dot com system the guy that uh someone else there's a there's a company called out there
- 55:31but they actually do this professionally I'm like I I made it happen with alarm dot com it's 20
- 55:35bucks a month yeah so it's my alarm system and then I have at least 15 of these things and if they
- 55:41any of them get wet it shuts off my main um my water main so I mean I have a pressurized tank so
- 55:48it will still get some water my home but I'm not gonna lose more than the biggest water leak I
- 55:53can have is 40 gallons but just because the way my house is set up but I literally any of those go
- 56:00off it shuts that off and again that wasn't that expensive but I'm kind of you know I think that
- 56:07it should be standard yeah for me I mean water we're gonna we live with the water we want water
- 56:12I mean plumbing is an amazing thing um for all of us but it comes with the risks of mold
- 56:18and so having having a driving a car comes with the risk of dying oh that's it so risk
- 56:25yeah so just maintenance yeah maintenance so what are the the three myths about killing mold
- 56:32we're three mold killing myths don't use chloroxid doesn't work mm-hmm why um well one
- 56:39mold is super resilient and you're not gonna kill it with fungicides or chemicals like
- 56:44Deacon not not effectively you might get some of it to die back but ultimately when you when
- 56:50you try to kill it you're not going to be successful and when you're killing some of those cells
- 56:56that are dying those fragmented dying cells are just as pathogenic as the mold itself and so you're
- 57:06you're basically you're just creating debris that you're still gonna react to
- 57:10and with a false sense of security that you dealt with the problem and if you use bleach and
- 57:14it's a black or a green or brown mold that has toxins in it you're just bleaching it
- 57:20so you're not getting rid of it but you can now you're turning it white so it's your eyes are
- 57:25less apt to find it so you're not really dissolving you know in some of it surviving yeah oh definitely
- 57:32yeah definitely the least chloroxid does not kill mold yeah it's not what you want to use
- 57:36for mold remediation you don't want to try to have some company come out and spray some type
- 57:41of anti fungal fog again if your goal is is to get rid of the mold you remove the mold you don't
- 57:48kill it um mold is not your enemy mold is doing its job it's just unfortunately your house
- 57:56something's wrong and that's it's your cue to fix that but you're not gonna kill the mold by
- 58:00fogging it you're just gonna make it more volatile you're gonna make it release more micotoxins
- 58:05because you're just gonna frankly piss it off and it's gonna try to protect itself just like
- 58:09you would if somebody came in and tried to rob you um so don't try to kill it try to remediate
- 58:16remediate means removal so when you have that there physical removal physical removal is the
- 58:22debris that's it and when you're removing it make sure that you're um depending on the job
- 58:28depending on the size of the remediation like ideally it's not to do it yourself at home project
- 58:33people get hurt a lot of times doing their own remediation i've seen it um that's not say you
- 58:39couldn't do your own remediation i would say depends on the scope of the work if you just if it's
- 58:43just a sense of you are that too if it's just a small area you know that's pretty easy thing to do
- 58:51but if you've got a bigger problem a kind of a universal problem if you if you try to to fog that
- 58:57away it's gonna make your family sick no you can't fog it away yeah i i like it for sanitation
- 59:04after all remediation is done if there's a little bit of molds for here there it also kills viruses
- 59:09and that's why i like paracetic acid but um and i companies called pure maintenance and they're
- 59:15they're gonna say that you don't need to it works so well they have the testing and i love the
- 59:19guys i'm friends with the owner um but we disagree on that one um but um i have seen people
- 59:26use it and they feel better for a little while and then they want to get sick again and uh so
- 59:32that's that's how i would recommend you might be different than you and we can definitely disagree
- 59:35but yeah to me remediation is removal is not sprays yeah i don't you know that is i agree 100
- 59:41percent you can never fog away mold it's impossible yeah that if the to me the best way to fog
- 59:47after if you want to fog with something um there's something called fine particle remediation
- 59:53that's what this paracetic acid is it's really tiny particles that actually can like penetrate
- 59:57every crack and crevice and wall and it's a fine sample yeah and you want to pull there
- 1:00:01was a bind those toxins they're smaller that float in the air that follow a different law of physics
- 1:00:06and so they it's like when you watch the sunlight come through the window and you see all that
- 1:00:10stuff yeah that's what you're trying to pull all that to the floors because so you get it out so
- 1:00:14that once you do that you can use half of atoms and you can take a lot of that up and it just
- 1:00:18really scours the air and cleans it more effectively so that your family can come back into the
- 1:00:23house and be safe or otherwise and lowering that toxic load in the home the microtoxin yeah
- 1:00:28all that yeah because that that's just it some people are so sensitive that even with the proper
- 1:00:33removal and hepavocumes like that stuff that little particulate that's still kind of floating
- 1:00:38and still make them sick or keep them sick so number three um myth when it comes to killing mold
- 1:00:45um you don't I mean it's really just one myth you just don't kill mold yeah you don't kill it um
- 1:00:52remove it yeah yeah so so we could say don't paint kills over it if you want to add another myth
- 1:00:59yeah like some you don't paint over it yeah some people use a primer that's a huge huge myth
- 1:01:04well they think the primer is going to encapsulate her we would do that with a lead we would have
- 1:01:08encapsulation or spestus we would do encapsulation um through the you know the the company that I
- 1:01:14worked with um so and I know a lot of friends will do kills right because it it kills mold and it
- 1:01:21encapsulates it so that's a huge myth that's really important on actually I haven't heard that
- 1:01:26learned a lot forgot about forgot about painting over mold that's what they do at hotels like this
- 1:01:32yeah paint over the mold paint over the mold um I have I have a water damage I'm black mold
- 1:01:37right in my room oh we'll send maintenance right after yeah we'll change your air filter and
- 1:01:42then he's painting over it yeah oh my god oh my gosh don't seal your basement um does another
- 1:01:51yeah bonus don't seal your basement basements you know which generally are on the outside you
- 1:01:58want to seal no and you want drainage you know water drainage so water is going to emanate into
- 1:02:02the ground right so that that concrete slab that is your basement that runs through the ground
- 1:02:07is not impervious to water um it's so it's not about it's not about sealing the water out if you
- 1:02:14seal the internal aspect of the basement what ultimately happens water is just going to push and
- 1:02:19if your house is as on top of that you're it's going to shift and it's going to move and you're
- 1:02:24going to get water in it anyway uh it won't it won't fix the problem because hydrostatic pressure
- 1:02:29hydrostatic pressure is not going to stop so what's key with basements is to have external drainage
- 1:02:34on the outside so as as rains coming down you have to make sure that around the hall
- 1:02:39where that water emanates into the ground you have a really good drainage system set to remove
- 1:02:42the water away from the house coming in for that's a French drain yeah yeah but there's yeah
- 1:02:48drainage is key my dad was an excavator and we used to put French drainage in all the time and
- 1:02:51fix water damages and homes by putting pipe with holes so it would direct the water away and
- 1:02:56Pennsylvania just rained it's borderline rainforest it's just so much water damage um if you
- 1:03:02go to home if you're homes at a bottom of the hill you have all that hydrostatic pressure
- 1:03:07amount hydrogeology degree coming out and there's no way you you're always going to lose if
- 1:03:12your house the bottom of the hill you really need to have a massive drainage and be running
- 1:03:17almost like an industrial dehumidifier not just like a little one you pick up at home depot but
- 1:03:21ones that are you know north of a thousand dollars that can a fifty pint you know but a fifty
- 1:03:28pint it it it costs go and a fifty pint industrial it's it's five times the machine
- 1:03:34and they can move a ton of water and keep yeah keep it dry keep it dry that's why I did it my
- 1:03:39parents when I was I knew it was mold and I still had to live there until I could move out and
- 1:03:43stay with a friend I made them actually I bought it I bought them a really powerful dehumidifier
- 1:03:50and you know air filters and I was still sick like because there's you know that mold was growing
- 1:03:55that geometric mold was growing everywhere just no way around it yeah you can reduce the water
- 1:04:00some people find it helpful you know temporarily you can reduce the water and filter the air
- 1:04:05but if you're really mold sick those that's not remediation either you know a lot of people try to
- 1:04:11everything but remediation and I get it especially if you've got somebody telling you it's
- 1:04:15going to cost you know my friends of thousands of dollars if you have humidity in your walls and
- 1:04:20you have mold just growing on all your you know micro particles of mold growing everywhere inside
- 1:04:26your walls you have to rip out all your walls and redo it all that's a lot of work you can have
- 1:04:31a vacuum it that um yeah it's it's a lot of work so how um let's give some some people some hope
- 1:04:40what are three things they can do to fill better after being mold sick like the three the very
- 1:04:46fastest ways to start filling better after your health has been impacted by about fast and free
- 1:04:52number one don't be scared to say naps don't be scared to sleep longer um 10 plus hours
- 1:04:57a night of sleep is one of the quickest ways to recover sleep is critical for healing
- 1:05:03and a lot of people how we we have a generation depending on the age of the person where
- 1:05:08some people are guilty for the nap they're guilty for sleeping in you know then so they like they
- 1:05:12have this sense of I have to be doing something at all times no your body needs rest you've been
- 1:05:17fighting a war silent microbial invisible war and a recover from that you need rest um number two
- 1:05:24you need sunshine to recover um a lot of the detoxification of mold is about mitochondrial damage
- 1:05:31so detoxification is a very energy expensive process and if you have
- 1:05:38mitochondrial damage from mold exposure one of the quickest ways to get your mitochondria back
- 1:05:43online is to expose them to light from the sun um you can buy infrared infrared is one of the
- 1:05:49key lights that ramps up accelerates ATP production by yourself but um you can just go aside
- 1:05:55yeah and when you're outside too you're also getting fresh air right because you know people say
- 1:06:00well there's mold outside too yeah it's it's about dilution and concentration right inside your
- 1:06:04house you have a minimal quantity of cubic air space outside you have trillions of tons of cubic
- 1:06:09air space and so you have a dilution effect so any mold or mycotoxins outside are diluted by the
- 1:06:15mass of air but they're also being oxidized and broken down by OH negative ions that are naturally
- 1:06:21being produced as the sunlight hits the ozone so that mother nature has this way outside of
- 1:06:26dealing with those toxins so that mold doesn't destroy the earth but inside your house you don't
- 1:06:31have those things so got side um gets sunlight as much as you can without burning that's also free
- 1:06:39and then outside of that open up your excretion channel so you know make sure you're pooping
- 1:06:45and make sure you're peeing so hydration becomes really critical especially with electrolytes when
- 1:06:50you're in mold um a lot of people suffer with electrolyte abnormalities because of the way it
- 1:06:54impacts them so hydrate with electrolytes the urine movement is going to remove toxins from
- 1:07:00your body for free right so if you want to do the top three things to detoxify once you remove
- 1:07:06from the mold but remember you need to remove from the mold if you're still in it these things
- 1:07:11are going to have a minimal impact yeah because you're still being exposed so again sunshine is
- 1:07:17super free um sleep is absolutely free and pooping and peeing is also free um but to pee more
- 1:07:26and we want that at least initially hydrating really well the electrolytes if you're constipated
- 1:07:32um really you know next strategy there is I like to use vitamin C yeah um because it's a natural
- 1:07:38osmotic it'll pull water into the balance not have it forming so it doesn't really create a
- 1:07:44scenario where you're you're changing the colon or changing the neurological control over how the
- 1:07:49colon works um you're just gripping herbs you know like cacagarras agarata or something like that
- 1:07:54exactly we have it forming and vitamin C is also antifungal so if you've been colonized by the
- 1:07:59mold vitamin C helps it's like fuel rocket fuel for the immune system to fight fungus so it serves
- 1:08:05as an ad on benefit and if you've got mast cell activation because you've been in mold vitamin C
- 1:08:09natural any histamine it helps stabilize mast cell so there's just a lot of benefits to that if
- 1:08:14you're looking at you know like supplemental support it's typically tolerated by everyone like
- 1:08:20it's very rare for somebody not to tolerate vitamin C there are other supplements people that
- 1:08:24have been in mold um it don't tolerate very well especially supplements that amplify detoxification
- 1:08:30you know things like methylated B vitamins and uh those are probably some of the more common
- 1:08:35ones that people in mold don't don't do well with while they're still involved but um outside of
- 1:08:41that some low hanging fruit I like binders um there's a lot of good ones full ofic acid,
- 1:08:45zeolite, bitnite clay just make sure you're getting a pure brand something that um is not contaminated
- 1:08:51with a bunch of other metals but no two that just eating well contains binders like there's
- 1:08:57there's in fiber there's binders right eating an apple yeah yeah apple pectin is what I think
- 1:09:03what a lot of supplement companies now are they're adding are adding it as a kind of a binding
- 1:09:09agent so you can you can eat well and detox and remember all the vitamins and minerals you need
- 1:09:15for detox are in your food so part of it part of recovery that isn't free because we all have to
- 1:09:22eat and we have to pay for our food but it isn't more expensive you know six is not added cost
- 1:09:28is just simply eat well and you know for me what does that mean organic grass fed free range
- 1:09:36are kind of staple definitions there's no perfect food there's no super food or one food that
- 1:09:42you know that you need to only have or that is going to amplify this better than all other foods
- 1:09:48that's not what I read on Instagram yeah I know all the memes are telling you which super food
- 1:09:52they're selling you is going to the three types of full through yeah
- 1:09:55move mold from your body every food is super yeah every food is a miracle and
- 1:10:00that you have to determine when it comes to diet there's no one size fits all I mean I'm partial
- 1:10:05to no grain because it's been my experience clinically that number one 30% of grain crops are
- 1:10:12contaminated with mycotoxins and it's probably higher than that if you're already sensitized
- 1:10:17eating grain while you're trying to recover from mold becomes an impact that's a really good point
- 1:10:21yeah and then at you know outside of that many people because of mold are
- 1:10:28reacting to gluten and some people are just gluten sensitive regardless but there's a there's an
- 1:10:34interesting scenario that sometimes happens with mold because it's some immunosuppressive
- 1:10:42you get colonization of yeast we all have yeast in it so you know yeast isn't evil has a
- 1:10:47purpose we have something called a myco biome NYCO which is fungal we have a fungal microbiome yeah
- 1:10:54and candida is part of that now what happens in mold is we mold behaves mold toxins specifically
- 1:11:00behaviors antibiotics that's what penicillin is so we're breathing in antibiotics from our
- 1:11:05air every day it's wiping out our healthy flora the candida that naturally liveness
- 1:11:10anyway yeah are growing out of control well one of the proteins that candida produces is called
- 1:11:16a hyphil wall protein HWP it looks like gluten identical to gluten if you look at it so in science
- 1:11:25they call it homology it has homology sameness right so yeah if you're gluten sensitive you're out
- 1:11:31of your mold you're still struggling one of the most common reasons why is that you are over
- 1:11:37colonized with candida it's making proteins that mimic gluten and if you haven't if you've
- 1:11:44changed your diet and you're eating green free great if you haven't it's just more fuel in that
- 1:11:48fire but candida also produces gliotoxin gliotoxin is produced by aspergillus and penicillium so it's
- 1:11:55one of those that we know damaged the kidneys it's a carcinogen it inhibits DNA and RNA replication
- 1:12:01so it stops you from basically being able to repair if you have that overgrowth in you it's
- 1:12:06going to continue to perpetuate your illness so a lot of people once they get out of mold and
- 1:12:11they still struggle it's important to know that you might be colonized and you know you can
- 1:12:16you can suspect it and do some things that are kind of suppressive of fungal overgrowth like
- 1:12:22caprylic acid oregano these are things you can eat great cereal make great grape seed oil has it
- 1:12:26time has it the number of wonderful herbs that work for the plants to prevent fungus from
- 1:12:32overgrowing on the plants that also work in humans but ultimately I would say if you're still
- 1:12:36struggling and you're out you don't know why I work with a mold literate doctor who understands
- 1:12:40this stuff and save yourself in next two or three years of trying to fix your leaky gut because
- 1:12:46that's what we hear a lot the doctors that really understand this well when we talk and get
- 1:12:53together it's like a good lot of the people that we see have been working on trying to fix their
- 1:12:59leaky gut for three four five years because they didn't seek out an expert help and so they've
- 1:13:04lost that vitality of their life and then they've also lost the thousands of dollars on protocols
- 1:13:09and supplements and things that haven't really been all that helpful so it's not say those things
- 1:13:14can't be because I think there's something to being intuitive and trying to take ownership of
- 1:13:20your health and do the right things but if you've been doing it for that long and you're struggling
- 1:13:25like starting to seek out hell yeah and that's a great way to end the show so this has been
- 1:13:31amazing and you do train doctors as well so how can someone find a mold literate doctor how can they
- 1:13:37they find you and I could talk to you for hours like you're just starting to get into some of the
- 1:13:42the cool science of the complications with mold illness and the little tricks and tips you can do
- 1:13:49to start feeling better because that's what ultimately we all want we all want to feel ourselves
- 1:13:52again we want to have energy want to seek to the night we want to be able to do the things that
- 1:13:57we love to do have energy at the end of the day to stay up late and talk to our spouse instead of
