- 0:11SPEAKER_00: You are now listening to the Not Gonna Hold Back podcast.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Not Gonna Hold Back.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: This is a funny story about lots of rats.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: Also, sometimes it's really cold in this studio, so that's why I'm wearing sweatpants and hoodies, but I don't know what Koho's got going on.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Listen, I'm not gonna lie to you people.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: I live in the desert and I go through my closet and I own a lot of things with no sleeves.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: As this podcast goes along, we are going to become much better at this.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: But anyway, Andrew wants to get started with a story from his childhood that really did leave a mark on him.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: And uh it happened in Oahu.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: It was Mother's Day, and we were in Oahu.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We went to Duke's for Mother's Day brunch.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: It was Andrew and myself and three or four other ladies with their young children at that time.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: And when I say young, I'm talking five, six years old possibly.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: So we go in and we all sit down at this large table and we're all ordering our drinks.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: And then Peggy looks I thought the roof was falling in.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: It was such a loud sound that I peered up because I knew in that instant I was going to spring into action and save my child from a roof collapsing.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Nothing near what was going on.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: It was a pretty loud boom.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: And as I looked up to see where the ceiling was collapsing, a toddler-sized rodent came scurrying down and landed in an empty seat right at our table.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: I didn't know what was going on.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: So when I saw that it was in fact alive, I jumped up on the table and screamed.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: And I reached down as any mother would and snatched her child up and put him on the table.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: So here we are in the middle of a restaurant.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Brunch time and Mother's Day standing in the center of the table.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I didn't know what else to do.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I do get a little creative.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: You you may find that along this journey.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: And the lady said, I'm gonna need you to get off the table.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: And I said, I'm gonna need you to take control of that rodents.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And she said, Can I comp your meal?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: And he both said, Do you think?
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: You think that would be appropriate comping our meal?
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: And needless to say, we I lost my appetite.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: We didn't eat that Mother's Day.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: It just didn't, it wasn't important.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Not anymore.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, and then one other rat story, uh, well, we got a few, um, is one where I was away at college actually when this one happened.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: And Peggy went outside and saw a headless.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, recently, recently that happened.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Uh Hugh hadn't finished college yet, but it was it was this year, so it was recently.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: And I was going out to clean the pull, check the pool.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure what I was doing.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Maybe I was gonna turn on the grill or something.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I just happened to look down and it was a headless mouse.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: It wasn't a rat.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: It was a headless mouse.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: I don't do rodents.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: I do lots of things, but rodents are not them.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: So I called my husband.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: I ran back in the house as if it were chasing me.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: It was not, it clearly was not moving.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I didn't take a picture of it.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I'd love to share it, but I did not.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: And so I called my husband and he came and scooped it up.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: And uh I asked him where the head was, and he said he didn't know, but he didn't feel that was important.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: To this day, I need to know where the head went.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Like it I didn't examine it, but it looked like a pretty clean cut, you know, like like it just come right off.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I don't my dogs didn't eat it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Not my dogs, they wouldn't do that.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: I think it might have been those cats that were living in our backyard.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: We had a family of cats living in the fire pit.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: At one point, I thought we were going to have to relocate because we had a zoo back there.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: We had uh a headless rat.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: We had the cat with the five litter of kittens.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: And let me tell you people something.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: I have been told that possession is nine-tenths of the law, but do not ever try to get rid of stray animals in your backyard.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: I called every cat associated facility in the southern Nevada area, in addition to animal control.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: And no one, not one person wanted to come and get those cats.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: They said they were mine.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: They are not mine.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: I did not give them permission to give birth there.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Not my cats.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Anyway, they finally left.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Then we had some rogue ducks.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately, two of the little ducklings, uh, the mama took off and left them.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: I tried to spook her away.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: I thought she'd take her kids with her.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: She did not.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: She's not a good mother, not a good and they both died.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they I woke up the next morning and they were laying in the pool, which was unfortunate, poor little ducklings.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: But speaking of animals, I should share the story that we went to Japan earlier this summer after your graduation, and I don't know if everyone is familiar with Punch, the macaque monkey and the Ichikawa su, but I I put eyes on that baby, and he is sweet, sweet.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, we love embarrassing my mom's side of the family so much.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: So this rat story is gonna get you really good.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: I'm not participating in this one when my lovely aunt that comes to everything and supports me.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: We don't need to say her name.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: We're not saying her name, but she might be on the show in a couple weeks.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: So my mom drives her uh rental car to the to her house, and she says, Come on, um, her sister, and she said, Come on, let's get in the car.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: And she said, No, I'll drive.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And I said, and she said, Okay, and my mom opens the door and I think she I didn't, I didn't even put my foot in the car.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: I was on the passenger side, and there was movement happening.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: And my sister said, you know, just get in.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: It's just a mouse.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Well, what we since when is it appropriate for mouses to make our vehicles their homes?
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: No, I did not get in that car.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: I refused, I would not, could not.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: But you know, that's not the only thing.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Remember my sister, we pulled up one day to drop her off when we were visiting, and she went in and she heard this ruckus, and there were two raccoons enclosed in her porch.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: She's I mean, talk about wild animals.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: She freaked out because she thought they were gonna come in her house.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Well, wouldn't you?
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: She tried to shoe them, and I'm gonna tell you, they raccoons do not vacate easily.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: They don't.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: We have a few more rat stories before we close this out today.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: We're we're talking live animal.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: This is our live animal episode, apparently.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Remember the night we took the stroll to the Thai restaurant for dinner, and we came walking back and right outside the building, it was like a parking lot full of rats.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Remember?
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Oh yes, I do.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: From that moment on, I never took the stairwell.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: No, I was not going to be trapped, I was not going to be touched by those rats.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: They were rats.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Needless to say, Reno was a weird place to be.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Some nights.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but a lot of people loved Reno.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: You didn't you didn't really No, I didn't care for it.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: No, so you did your three years and moved on.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: But most people I don't know how many of you visited Reno.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I mean it's nice to visit once, but if you go twice, you've been there once too many times.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: No, no offense, Reno.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Reno people, I like you, but your city's boring.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: We'll probably catch crap for that.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: It's a smaller Las Vegas.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: No, it's not.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: What the hell?
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: It is not because no, it's not.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: People try to sell it that way.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: It's not.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: It's not even near.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, people.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: If any of you have ever been to Vegas, and that's where we live, I don't know if we said that, but Vegas is it's a fine city.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's lots to do.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: You go into any casino 24 hours, and in Reno, you could go into the little casinos.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: However, most of those don't have real gaming tables.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna cut this episode short today.
