• 0:50
  Speaker 3: on Let's Talk.
• 0:51
Speaker 4: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Caraley with Let's Talk,
• 0:54
Speaker 4: and I have in the building. I have Hollis Lewis
• 0:57
Speaker 4: and my co host and Lisa to the Football Queen,
• 1:01
Speaker 4: she's here also, so gentlemen and gentlemen and lady. One
• 1:08
Speaker 4: of the interesting things that I have about this particular
• 1:12
Speaker 4: show is we've we have tried to figure out exactly
• 1:17
Speaker 4: what we wanted to do and how we wanted to
• 1:19
  Speaker 4: do it.
• 1:19
Speaker 2: Y'all not listening. No, we're not. We're definitely not trying
• 1:24
Speaker 2: to listen to you.
• 1:26
Speaker 4: And hopefully hopefully you know we're We're gonna have coach
• 1:32
Speaker 4: Donnie Mays on and obviously he's finishing up practice. But
• 1:38
Speaker 4: one of one of the things, because I get this
• 1:41
Speaker 4: question about I get this question all the time, like
• 1:46
Speaker 4: who is your favorite team? Okay, so the automatic thing
• 1:51
Speaker 4: requires me to say the Vikings. And when I think
• 1:56
Speaker 4: about the Vikings and my favorite team, I go back
• 1:59
  Speaker 4: as a child. I was a Browns fan, and I
• 2:02
Speaker 4: was a Browns fan because that's for the most part,
• 2:05
Speaker 4: that's all that you got to see was, you know,
• 2:09
Speaker 4: the Browns, maybe Cincinnati, maybe Pittsburgh, but for whatever whatever
• 2:15
Speaker 4: it was, it was always going to be for me,
• 2:17
Speaker 4: it was always the Browns. And I can remember Paul Warfield,
• 2:24
Speaker 4: Leroy Kelly, like just all of those old school names.
• 2:30
Speaker 4: And so it made me think, like what makes you
• 2:35
Speaker 4: get or what has caused you to want to have
• 2:39
Speaker 4: that team as your favorite team?
• 2:42
Speaker 2: And I know Hollis is kind of like leaning.
• 2:45
Speaker 4: Already, like he already knows I'm gonna make him have
• 2:49
Speaker 4: to hold that Lisa, and I already kind of know
• 2:52
Speaker 4: where you're going, but I'm curious about it. I'm curious
• 2:55
Speaker 4: to find out who is your favorite professional football team
• 2:59
Speaker 4: and why how did you get there?
• 3:03
Speaker 2: A good story about where how you got there?
• 3:05
  Speaker 5: You know, I don't know that. I can't pinpoint the
• 3:08
Speaker 5: exact moment. I was probably twelve or thirteen years old,
• 3:11
Speaker 5: and you know, watch the Steelers a lot. A lot
• 3:14
Speaker 5: of my friends were Steelers fans, you know, as they
• 3:17
  Speaker 5: still are today.
• 3:18
Speaker 6: But it was the Packers that did it for me.
• 3:20
  Speaker 6: I don't know. I like the tradition.
• 3:23
Speaker 5: I liked that the fact that you know, they have
• 3:26
Speaker 5: this this history, is this history behind them.
• 3:29
Speaker 6: I've been to lambeau Field. It's it's amazing.
• 3:32
Speaker 5: I like the fact that there's not one specific owner
• 3:36
Speaker 5: that the fans own the team. You know, it's it's
• 3:40
  Speaker 5: just a it's a it's a cluster of things that
• 3:42
Speaker 5: made me become a Packer fan.
• 3:44
Speaker 6: But you know, and and they always have good quarterbacks.
• 3:50
Speaker 4: They do now they have good defensive line.
• 3:55
Speaker 7: Can we can go right there see part part?
• 4:00
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 4:01
Speaker 4: I would like to think, you know that that the
• 4:04
Speaker 4: two of you all and myself have been friends for
• 4:08
Speaker 4: a long time, that there'd be some kind of way
• 4:11
Speaker 4: that there'd be like a piece of you, like saying
• 4:14
Speaker 4: like you know, I do like the Vikings.
• 4:18
Speaker 2: It didn't know. I grew up.
• 4:21
Speaker 4: I grew up a forty nine Ers fan, and I
• 4:22
Speaker 4: think it was two parts, right. They were good at
• 4:25
Speaker 4: the time when I first started like watching and getting
• 4:27
Speaker 4: involved with football, and then through like football and baseball
• 4:31
Speaker 4: and basketball card collecting. So when I was little, that
• 4:35
Speaker 4: was huge, you know what I mean. And I think
• 4:37
Speaker 4: we came up in the age where ESPN was just starting.
• 4:42
Speaker 4: So at that point, like I remember, like in fourth grade,
• 4:45
Speaker 4: like I don't know if it was like the cloud
• 4:48
Speaker 4: the boys in the class did it, but like it
• 4:50
Speaker 4: was at that point in which we all just like
• 4:52
Speaker 4: designated our team, like okay, you got to pick your
• 4:55
Speaker 4: team now, right, So I think you know of a
• 4:59
Speaker 4: common nation of things, and you know, I like, to
• 5:01
Speaker 4: your point quarterbacks Joe Montana and Jerry Rice was just
• 5:05
Speaker 4: super cool to me. So it's a forty nine you
• 5:08
Speaker 4: know that personal that has a little has a little
• 5:10
Speaker 4: field to be over here. This might be your last
• 5:13
Speaker 4: yoh yeah man, every show I mean.
• 5:19
Speaker 2: But yeah, it was.
• 5:20
Speaker 4: I think it was just you know, that was it,
• 5:23
Speaker 4: Like it was Magic Johnson. He had the flare right
• 5:26
Speaker 4: right in Cincinnati Red because I liked Eric Davis and
• 5:29
Speaker 4: Sable on those guys. So, you know, it was a
• 5:32
Speaker 4: combination of who was good at the time, the time
• 5:35
Speaker 4: that I, you know, started watching and getting involved in
• 5:37
Speaker 4: sports and then sports card collecting. So I was like,
• 5:40
Speaker 4: it's a combination of the three.
• 5:42
  Speaker 2: So question.
• 5:45
Speaker 4: To your team and your excitement for it. Do you
• 5:50
Speaker 4: have a moment when you were like, that's it, I'm
• 5:53
  Speaker 4: done with it.
• 5:56
  Speaker 2: That's something that.
• 5:59
Speaker 5: Like, I think it was a couple of years ago
• 6:02
Speaker 5: when the Pack was in the well. They actually they
• 6:05
Speaker 5: were in the playoffs and if they would have won
• 6:06
Speaker 5: the game, they would have gone.
• 6:08
Speaker 6: I think it would have the NFC Championship.
• 6:10
Speaker 5: They played the forty nine ers against Yeah, that was
• 6:13
Speaker 5: the NFC Championship a couple of years ago. Right when
• 6:15
Speaker 5: they lost by field goal, all kids, I was beyond crushed.
• 6:23
Speaker 5: Like the next day, I get up out of bed
• 6:24
Speaker 5: and I take my cheesehead and all my packer stuff
• 6:27
Speaker 5: and I put it in a trash bag and I
• 6:29
Speaker 5: took it to the trash can. And luckily my husband
• 6:32
Speaker 5: Jerry was watching through the window and he went and
• 6:35
Speaker 5: he saved it for me because after I got over it,
• 6:37
Speaker 5: I was like, oh my gosh, I threw my stuff away,
• 6:39
Speaker 5: you know. But no, that for me, that was just
• 6:41
Speaker 5: because I thought, this is the only opportunity they're ever
• 6:45
Speaker 5: going to get to get that close to the Super
• 6:46
Speaker 5: Bowl again. Boy, I think I was wrong because I
• 6:49
Speaker 5: think this year might be their year.
• 6:51
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 6:51
Speaker 4: I think for me it was like the whole Kaepernick
• 6:54
Speaker 4: thing being a forty nine Ers fan, like, you know,
• 6:57
Speaker 4: particularly we had just win at the Super Bowl and
• 6:59
Speaker 4: then you know, thing happened on Kaepernick. And I am
• 7:02
  Speaker 4: a huge Jim Harball fan. I am a huge He's
• 7:06
Speaker 4: one of the best coaches in football. To me, like
• 7:09
Speaker 4: everywhere he goes, he wins. Everywhere he goes, he's improving
• 7:12
Speaker 4: your quarterback situation. From San Diego State to you know,
• 7:15
Speaker 4: San Diego Now to Michigan to forty nine Ers to Stanford.
• 7:19
Speaker 4: Everywhere that dude goes, he wins. And I like the
• 7:22
Speaker 4: way in the style in which he coaches I think
• 7:24
Speaker 4: is very He gets the most out of his teams
• 7:27
Speaker 4: and players and wherever he goes, if you notice, he
• 7:29
Speaker 4: always leaves the program better than he finds it. So
• 7:32
Speaker 4: after those two things. I was like just done with
• 7:35
Speaker 4: the nineties and I'm not really you know, I still
• 7:37
Speaker 4: like him, but I'm more of just a general fan.
• 7:39
Speaker 4: And I would never you know, I'm a Laker for life.
• 7:41
Speaker 4: So I am a Laker and they can never ever
• 7:45
Speaker 4: do anything that made me turn in those colors. But
• 7:48
Speaker 4: you know, it was kind of a combination of the
• 7:50
Speaker 4: cap in Jim barholl excuse me, Jim Harball thing and see,
• 7:54
  Speaker 4: and I was a Browns fan, and I was a
• 7:55
Speaker 4: Browns fan pretty much because that's that was my dad's team.
• 7:59
Speaker 2: And you know, so I grew up and I was
• 8:04
  Speaker 2: always and I.
• 8:04
Speaker 4: Can remember tons and tons of time crying because they lost,
• 8:08
Speaker 4: right Like I mean, I'm like, like it.
• 8:11
Speaker 6: Was it was a big deal.
• 8:12
Speaker 2: It was a big deal.
• 8:13
Speaker 4: Like and the Browns were good, you know, and you
• 8:17
Speaker 4: know a loss was like devastating to me. But as
• 8:21
Speaker 4: I got older, by the time I got to Marshall,
• 8:25
Speaker 4: I kind of got away from like really like really
• 8:28
Speaker 4: watching it. And actually because I was playing it at
• 8:32
Speaker 4: you know, at a college level and and I didn't
• 8:36
Speaker 4: have to, like it was almost I felt like it
• 8:38
Speaker 4: was almost too much football for me. Yeah, and and
• 8:42
Speaker 4: so then you just didn't.
• 8:45
  Speaker 8: I did.
• 8:45
Speaker 2: I really didn't have time for it.
• 8:47
Speaker 4: And then once I actually get drafted, I get to
• 8:50
Speaker 4: Minnesota and I go through that time span and then
• 8:55
Speaker 4: when I when I come back, Like you know, I'm
• 9:00
Speaker 4: trying to figure out, like, am I supposed to be
• 9:02
Speaker 4: a Viking fan, a diehard Viking fan because I played
• 9:04
Speaker 4: for them. Am I supposed to be a die hard
• 9:06
Speaker 4: Marshall fan because I played for them? Am I supposed
• 9:09
Speaker 4: to be a diehard South Charleston fan because I played
• 9:11
Speaker 4: for them? Do you guys think that you that you
• 9:14
Speaker 4: should have to be locked into the team that you
• 9:18
Speaker 4: played for or is there opportunity to be for something else?
• 9:22
  Speaker 2: Dude, you're a Viking.
• 9:23
Speaker 4: I mean if you were like one of those it
• 9:24
Speaker 4: was uh, it was talking about a quarterback I forget.
• 9:28
Speaker 4: His name is Johnson that he's played for like ten
• 9:31
Speaker 4: different teams. So for him, it's like whatever. But I
• 9:34
Speaker 4: think for you, yeah, you live for ten different teams,
• 9:37
Speaker 4: so he probably can just go bad. But you know,
• 9:39
Speaker 4: but he's good. It's thirty nine, he's been in the
• 9:41
Speaker 4: league for you know, almost twenty plus years, you know.
• 9:45
Speaker 4: But for you, because you had such a story career,
• 9:47
Speaker 4: you were there for what like eleven years?
• 9:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I'm saying, Yeah, all but one. Yeah,
• 9:52
  Speaker 2: so you're a Viking man, so it's like you ain't
• 9:54
Speaker 2: got to turn the corner.
• 9:55
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I don't wish Vikings anything negative, you know,
• 10:02
  Speaker 4: and but I don't.
• 10:03
  Speaker 2: But well, of.
• 10:05
Speaker 4: Course that is because of the Viking.
• 10:09
  Speaker 2: I can't.
• 10:10
Speaker 6: I can't excey you are a Vikings fan.
• 10:13
Speaker 4: I can't acce I would never be happy one between
• 10:16
Speaker 4: you and Sterling. There's no there's no way that I
• 10:21
Speaker 4: could ever really root for the Packers.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: That could be, that could never happen.
• 10:24
Speaker 4: And now we have a reason maybe you shouldn't be
• 10:27
Speaker 4: practice because they have Michael Parsons. So what what And
• 10:33
Speaker 4: again you you have said, you know, far as negotiating
• 10:37
Speaker 4: with gender managers, you kind of said, and past shows
• 10:39
Speaker 4: how difficult it is and different things of that nature.
• 10:41
Speaker 4: Now I want to ask you something about this trade
• 10:44
Speaker 4: because one of the things that j Jones said is
• 10:48
Speaker 4: that this is going to be like the second quote
• 10:50
Speaker 4: unquote herschel Walker trade. Now they got for Michael Parsons,
• 10:55
Speaker 4: they got what two first round draft picks. They save
• 10:58
Speaker 4: money and that's it, right, Yeah, is so it's two
• 11:02
Speaker 4: first round draft picks, the ability to sign more players.
• 11:05
Speaker 4: Do you think it can have the same impact has
• 11:08
Speaker 4: the herschel Walker trate. Yes, here's the thing. Well, let
• 11:13
Speaker 4: me ask you this question. I'll ask you both this question.
• 11:17
Speaker 4: How are you looking how are you viewing the herschel
• 11:19
Speaker 4: Walker trade. I mean it was the reason why the
• 11:22
Speaker 4: Cowboys won three Super Bowls? Okay, I think that there
• 11:28
Speaker 4: is no It makes no sense to build another team
• 11:34
Speaker 4: in a trade like that, because really what you're doing
• 11:36
Speaker 4: is you're you're helping that team become a Super Bowl. Yes,
• 11:41
Speaker 4: you are you saying the Packers are helping the Cowboys,
• 11:44
Speaker 4: or the Cowboys are helping the pack whoever's lead, whoever
• 11:46
Speaker 4: sending the number of players. Okay, you're getting you're getting
• 11:51
Speaker 4: right now. Talent draft picks is not a guarantee. Okay,
• 11:56
Speaker 4: you see saying you can't guarantee.
• 11:58
Speaker 2: You don't know what. You have no clue what you're gonna.
• 12:00
Speaker 6: Get a thing, Michaeus Young.
• 12:01
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 12:02
Speaker 4: And the thing with the Cowboys to me, with Michael Parsons,
• 12:04
Speaker 4: with dak with Ceedee Lamb, with all the pieces that
• 12:07
Speaker 4: they were, it seemed like they were ready to win
• 12:09
Speaker 4: now and now you've seen that to the Packers who
• 12:13
Speaker 4: might be ready to win now.
• 12:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, but okay, so here's here's the question I want
• 12:17
Speaker 5: to throw out to you guys, because I don't know anything.
• 12:19
Speaker 5: So when they traded Micah, he was going he wasn't
• 12:23
Speaker 5: practicing with the team due to to back issues quote.
• 12:27
Speaker 5: But now they're saying that he's in Green Bay of course,
• 12:30
Speaker 5: and he's practicing and he's supposed to get like injections.
• 12:33
Speaker 5: So maybe there is some truth to the rumors about
• 12:36
Speaker 5: his back. I mean, doesn't the team give a physical?
• 12:39
Speaker 5: Don't they have to do a thorough physical before you
• 12:41
Speaker 5: do any kind of trade?
• 12:42
  Speaker 2: Yeah, they do.
• 12:43
Speaker 4: But but let's be honest that the truth we can
• 12:47
Speaker 4: never really get to the true ry Jays, not even
• 12:50
  Speaker 4: because of that.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: It's just it's just the league.
• 12:53
Speaker 4: You know, you're going to get part of the story
• 12:57
Speaker 4: or the best part of the story that they The
• 12:59
Speaker 4: story that they is is the best way to your point.
• 13:03
Speaker 4: Hollis again about a team that was we were right
• 13:06
Speaker 4: thereout y'all got we went and made the herschel Walker trade.
• 13:12
Speaker 4: We were right there. Okay, what what pieces did you?
• 13:16
Speaker 4: Can you remember the pieces that y'all gave up, gave up.
• 13:18
Speaker 4: That really hurts, y'all. We gave up, We gave up.
• 13:22
Speaker 4: We gave up three three linebackers, all starters. Okay, you
• 13:30
Speaker 4: gave up three lines week start starter starters. So is
• 13:33
Speaker 4: this like your like your middle strong and weak or it.
• 13:37
  Speaker 2: Was it was?
• 13:37
Speaker 4: It was it was strong week, and we had one
• 13:40
Speaker 4: that was with the We played the four three, so
• 13:43
Speaker 4: we had two outside and we had one inside.
• 13:47
Speaker 2: So one of our inside and our two outsides gave up, y'all.
• 13:50
  Speaker 6: Corey, that's crazy.
• 13:52
Speaker 2: We gave up. We gave up.
• 13:54
Speaker 4: We gave up a corner. Who was who is the
• 13:57
Speaker 4: guy that I've talked to before. You guys have heard
• 13:59
Speaker 4: me say who I thought was the best corner I've
• 14:02
Speaker 4: ever seen. They got rid of him as well, and
• 14:05
Speaker 4: he was he was the nickel guy. He was a
• 14:08
Speaker 4: starter and then was a nickel guy also for us,
• 14:12
Speaker 4: you got rid of him. I mean, so you're talking
• 14:14
Speaker 4: about like we gave up starters. And see, this is
• 14:17
Speaker 4: why I wanted to because you were there, like you,
• 14:20
Speaker 4: you were there to like say talking he made And
• 14:23
Speaker 4: I can remember the first day walking into the locker
• 14:26
Speaker 4: room and seeing Herschel's locker and him there at his locker. Okay,
• 14:31
Speaker 4: so naturally you you know, you want to be cordial
• 14:35
Speaker 4: because because like I'm like thinking, like.
• 14:38
Speaker 2: You're you're you're banking on this guy to to take
• 14:42
Speaker 2: us over the hunt. Well, we're already over the humph.
• 14:45
Speaker 2: And how many years deep were you in it this time?
• 14:48
Speaker 4: I'm in I'm in eighty forty five six I think
• 14:53
Speaker 4: I think it was like around eighty seven or so,
• 14:56
Speaker 4: so I'm I'm five years yeah, about five or six
• 14:58
  Speaker 4: years in.
• 14:59
  Speaker 2: I'm good.
• 15:00
Speaker 4: And this is from what you're saying, like, this is
• 15:02
Speaker 4: your chance to like ya, right, we're there. You were
• 15:07
Speaker 4: already we're looking at this and we're thinking we are there.
• 15:10
Speaker 5: And when you trade your starters, I mean I just
• 15:13
Speaker 5: noticed support. You can't just have the star Mike.
• 15:16
Speaker 2: Mike Lynn was the general manager the T.
• 15:20
Speaker 6: And I mean crazy.
• 15:22
Speaker 4: Darren Nelson, who was a multiple threat in the backfield.
• 15:27
Speaker 2: They got rid of him.
• 15:30
Speaker 4: I mean it was so they got rid of your
• 15:32
Speaker 4: starting three linebackers are guys who played. They got rid
• 15:35
Speaker 4: of your nickel corner, and they got rid of your
• 15:37
Speaker 4: running back and running back and there's somebody else in
• 15:39
Speaker 4: that there's somebody want that player. Yes, that's like your core,
• 15:44
Speaker 4: your team. It was the quarterback, everything and everything that
• 15:48
Speaker 4: was important. We gave up. And you know what, Dallas
• 15:53
Speaker 4: and Dallas got rid of all of them when they
• 15:55
Speaker 4: when they went to Dallas, Dallas cut them.
• 15:57
Speaker 2: They wanted to. All they cared about was a draft pick.
• 16:00
Speaker 2: And y'all gave up draft picks.
• 16:01
Speaker 4: Yes, So y'all gave up like play simply five starters
• 16:06
  Speaker 4: and draft picks.
• 16:06
Speaker 2: Yes. So yeah, this ain't like to.
• 16:10
Speaker 4: So it was this was I mean, I'm telling you
• 16:12
Speaker 4: this was like and and my name had come up
• 16:16
Speaker 4: as a possibility of being part of that trade.
• 16:19
  Speaker 2: But again.
• 16:21
Speaker 4: For us, we were right there, like we we're coming
• 16:25
Speaker 4: off the NFC championship.
• 16:27
Speaker 2: Game also the year before.
• 16:28
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, we we do this after after that game,
• 16:33
Speaker 4: after the US making a huge run, and then we're
• 16:38
Speaker 4: gonna we're gonna. I guess what the thoughts were, We
• 16:42
Speaker 4: can get rid of all these players and we get
• 16:44
Speaker 4: Herschel take us over the top.
• 16:47
Speaker 2: How do you do that with your i mean, without
• 16:49
Speaker 2: your team, without your team?
• 16:51
Speaker 4: So look, does does the Micah Parson trade to the
• 16:55
Speaker 4: Packers make the Packers a Super Bowl contender?
• 16:59
Speaker 5: I think it increases their chances immensely. And here's here's
• 17:04
  Speaker 5: here's what I think, and I this is what I'm
• 17:07
Speaker 5: this is my opinion of it. Last year, the Green
• 17:09
Speaker 5: Bay Pickers, they were the youngest team in the NFL, right,
• 17:12
Speaker 5: and they got a lot of experience last year going
• 17:15
Speaker 5: to the playoffs. You know, they've got that under their
• 17:17
Speaker 5: belt now. And and also, in all fairness, you know,
• 17:21
Speaker 5: Jordan loves a good quarterback, but he was hurt most
• 17:24
Speaker 5: of the season last year. He struggled all year with
• 17:26
Speaker 5: some kind of a growing injury on and off and
• 17:28
  Speaker 5: then other things.
• 17:29
Speaker 6: And you know, if they can keep.
• 17:31
Speaker 5: Him healthy and the Michael Parsons is healthy, which you know,
• 17:34
Speaker 5: like I said, there's always those rumors about the back issues.
• 17:36
Speaker 5: I think they have a legitimate shot at least winning
• 17:38
  Speaker 5: the NFC North.
• 17:40
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 17:40
Speaker 4: So let me ask you this, like what is up
• 17:43
Speaker 4: with like owners and general managers like giving up prime talent,
• 17:47
Speaker 4: Like you look at Luca gone money, you look at Thibodeau,
• 17:50
Speaker 4: Tom Thibodeau got that team New York Knits, The Males gone,
• 17:53
Speaker 4: Michael madd gone. They're paying other people like why back
• 17:57
Speaker 4: in our day, back in our day, So you get
• 18:01
Speaker 4: rid of all of those paychecks and you drop it
• 18:04
Speaker 4: all into her shows.
• 18:07
Speaker 2: That's insane. You drop it off into his pocket. But
• 18:11
Speaker 2: so it ain't money, then how was the money if
• 18:13
  Speaker 2: you if.
• 18:14
Speaker 4: You spend it, because because the the idea is he's
• 18:17
Speaker 4: the guy, he's gonna he's gonna be the guy that's
• 18:19
Speaker 4: gonna take you. Now, first day, first day of practice,
• 18:23
Speaker 4: first day of practice is always a must do right,
• 18:28
Speaker 4: like you you gotta come out, you got to show something.
• 18:32
  Speaker 2: And brother, I'm.
• 18:33
Speaker 4: Watching him now, could he run me? If it's me
• 18:35
Speaker 4: and him in a tackle drill, He's probably gonna run
• 18:38
Speaker 4: over me. He's standing straight up, he's tip he's like
• 18:41
Speaker 4: running on his like tippy toes, and he ain't really
• 18:43
Speaker 4: like bending this beat, not bending his knees or nothing.
• 18:45
Speaker 4: And I'm like, well, how's he gonna you know, super fast,
• 18:49
Speaker 4: super big? Yeah, but he ain't the guy like he ain't.
• 18:55
  Speaker 2: Gonna break I don't.
• 18:58
Speaker 6: I mean, you did make the Super Bowl.
• 19:01
Speaker 2: No we went no, no we lost in the NFC
• 19:03
  Speaker 2: Championship game.
• 19:05
Speaker 5: But you did make the NFC Championship game with them.
• 19:07
Speaker 5: But you've done that the year before, we had done
• 19:09
  Speaker 5: that before that.
• 19:11
  Speaker 6: Had him.
• 19:11
  Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't even know if we made. I don't
• 19:13
Speaker 4: even know if we got through the first round.
• 19:15
  Speaker 2: Of the playoffs.
• 19:16
Speaker 6: Oh wow, okay, if.
• 19:18
Speaker 2: We even got there. My memory is horrible.
• 19:21
Speaker 4: So all the listeners just for you, just so that
• 19:24
Speaker 4: you know, somebody had to google that.
• 19:26
Speaker 2: Well, but it was it.
• 19:28
Speaker 6: Was so it wasn't worth it.
• 19:31
Speaker 2: Maybe two years maybe he I mean he didn't.
• 19:35
Speaker 4: I mean, you're looking at lockers and guys that you
• 19:38
Speaker 4: knew what they could do, you knew how well they played,
• 19:41
Speaker 4: and we were part of a team, you know, and
• 19:45
Speaker 4: all of a sudden, a general manager makes this decision
• 19:49
Speaker 4: out of the blue and cuts half your and cuts
• 19:53
Speaker 4: half the team well or trades them away.
• 19:55
Speaker 2: And eventually, like I said, when they went to Dallas.
• 19:57
Speaker 6: So that was the beginning of the end for you guys.
• 20:00
  Speaker 2: Yes, yes, really.
• 20:01
Speaker 6: What year was that?
• 20:02
  Speaker 2: Year?
• 20:03
  Speaker 1: Nine?
• 20:04
Speaker 4: And he had he played in eleven games and had
• 20:07
Speaker 4: six hundred and sixty nine yards average four point four
• 20:11
Speaker 4: periods of the game.
• 20:12
Speaker 2: They had five touchdowns.
• 20:14
Speaker 6: Not worth it the record.
• 20:17
Speaker 2: And what do you what do you say to that?
• 20:20
Speaker 6: Like, yeah, I mean you don't.
• 20:22
Speaker 5: I mean, I guess every time the NFL, you know,
• 20:25
  Speaker 5: these teams make a trade, it's a gamble. I mean,
• 20:28
Speaker 5: if it's a roll of the dice, you don't you
• 20:30
Speaker 5: don't know for sure. Look, you know, we don't know
• 20:31
Speaker 5: what Aaron Rodgers is going to do for the Steelers.
• 20:33
Speaker 5: There's a lot of hype with that going on, you know,
• 20:36
Speaker 5: with Michael Parsons coming to us.
• 20:37
  Speaker 6: I think it's I think it's a good trade. But
• 20:40
  Speaker 6: we did lose.
• 20:40
Speaker 5: I think Kenny Clark just somebody could google that, but
• 20:44
Speaker 5: we we had to give up one of our starting players.
• 20:46
Speaker 5: We did give up one with with the first round
• 20:49
Speaker 5: draft picks maybe somebody coming.
• 20:51
Speaker 4: And I really do think that draft picks are are gambles, Yeah,
• 20:59
Speaker 4: but it's a gamble worth taking. When to me, at
• 21:03
Speaker 4: that point in time, Herschel had not done like what
• 21:06
Speaker 4: had he done to be worthy of draft picks?
• 21:11
Speaker 5: And he was on foot Bowl teams in Dallas, right, No, no, no, oh, okay,
• 21:15
Speaker 5: I got that information wrong.
• 21:17
  Speaker 2: They were pretty bad. Yeah. I don't I don't think.
• 21:20
  Speaker 2: I don't.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: I don't think he had done anything the stacular the
• 21:24
Speaker 4: first year him with the Minnesota Wakings. You guys were
• 21:27
Speaker 4: ten and six and you lost in the first You
• 21:29
Speaker 4: wanted to actually won the NFC Central Division, But you
• 21:31
Speaker 4: guys lost in the first round to the to the
• 21:35
  Speaker 4: forty nine ers.
• 21:38
Speaker 6: Pallis was probably sharing for the time watch.
• 21:42
Speaker 2: I'm sure he watched that game.
• 21:43
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 21:44
Speaker 6: Oh gosh, that's crazy.
• 21:46
Speaker 4: But just just for you, Hollis, just to make you,
• 21:50
Speaker 4: just to bring you down just a little bit because
• 21:52
Speaker 4: you just because you wanted to make sure.
• 21:53
Speaker 2: But you made the Pro Bowl that year, you know, Yeah, okay,
• 21:56
  Speaker 2: I appreciate that. I a little bit. I'm looking for
• 22:01
Speaker 2: the team part of this.
• 22:03
Speaker 4: Supposedly, when the forty nine ers was the best team ever,
• 22:07
Speaker 4: that's the year that we we we beat them. Just
• 22:10
Speaker 4: in case you know what year was that. That was
• 22:13
Speaker 4: the year before eighty eight. Who they did. Huh they
• 22:18
Speaker 4: didn't win the Super Bowl.
• 22:19
Speaker 2: We didn't win in an eighty eight.
• 22:22
Speaker 4: And again, my years, all my years are all messed
• 22:26
Speaker 4: My years are all messed up. But the year that
• 22:28
Speaker 4: we beat them, they were considered one of the best
• 22:30
Speaker 4: teams in the league. Just so just so you know, okay, okay,
• 22:34
Speaker 4: what about the whole and we did shut him down.
• 22:36
Speaker 4: You can go look up and stacked if you want.
• 22:38
Speaker 4: Oh no, that was a I'm sorry, that was the
• 22:40
Speaker 4: riskins I should have known that. But Doug Williams. Yeah,
• 22:43
  Speaker 4: that's right, that's right.
• 22:44
Speaker 5: If you guys had a chance, this is the tis
• 22:46
Speaker 5: the season for power rankings in the NFL. Have you
• 22:49
Speaker 5: guys looked at any It's kind of like, and you
• 22:51
Speaker 5: guys correct me completely if I'm wrong. So the NFL
• 22:54
Speaker 5: really doesn't do like official power rankings. It's more like
• 22:57
Speaker 5: your your media outlets like CBS and and they're they're
• 23:01
Speaker 5: like correspondence go and they give their picks. And I
• 23:04
Speaker 5: came across some today and I just thought I'd maybe
• 23:08
Speaker 5: share a couple of them and then.
• 23:09
Speaker 2: Just I'm just gonna assume.
• 23:12
Speaker 5: So we've got we've got the forty nine ers coming in,
• 23:16
Speaker 5: uh And basically I looked at several I looked at
• 23:19
Speaker 5: several power rankings from different media outlets. They were all
• 23:21
Speaker 5: pretty close, give or take a couple of spaces. So
• 23:24
  Speaker 5: we've got the.
• 23:25
Speaker 6: Forty nine ers coming in at number nine. That's not bad.
• 23:28
Speaker 6: You might have a good year. Might might.
• 23:31
Speaker 5: But we have the Vikings coming in fourteen h so
• 23:36
Speaker 5: kind of middle of the pack. Speaking of pack, we
• 23:40
Speaker 5: have the Packers at number four. And this was CBS's
• 23:44
Speaker 5: Pete Crisco I think is his name. He's there correspondent
• 23:47
Speaker 5: for the NFL. So he and let me let me
• 23:50
Speaker 5: tell you he went further. I read the whole article.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: I'm sure you did.
• 23:54
Speaker 5: Once I saw that, it kind of peaked my interest.
• 23:55
Speaker 5: So his pick for the Super you can't look.
• 23:58
Speaker 2: She's so excited. If you are at the listeners could.
• 24:00
Speaker 6: See, oh they can them up so well.
• 24:05
Speaker 5: I was excited for part of it and then not
• 24:07
Speaker 5: part of it. But he feels like this is going
• 24:08
Speaker 5: to be the year for a Bills Packers Super Bowl
• 24:13
Speaker 5: with the Bills winning at all. Wow, he's a pretty
• 24:17
Speaker 5: repud but he says, now, this is if everybody stays healthy.
• 24:19
Speaker 5: Josh Allen's got to stay healthy. You know, same with
• 24:22
Speaker 5: Jordan Love. I don't know, I feel good about this team.
• 24:26
  Speaker 2: I think.
• 24:27
  Speaker 4: Sorry, I don't. I think that's true, But you know
• 24:29
Speaker 4: I would. I would definitely have the the Eagles up there.
• 24:33
Speaker 4: I'm going quarterback. I would have the.
• 24:34
Speaker 6: Eagles are number one and almost everybody.
• 24:36
Speaker 4: I would have the Chiefs upper I'm telling you, I'm
• 24:38
Speaker 4: going to have if everybody can stay healthy, I would
• 24:41
Speaker 4: have san Diego uper. I think Jim Harball he's proven that.
• 24:45
Speaker 4: You give him a couple of years. Year two the
• 24:47
Speaker 4: dramatic improvements happened. So I would have to be looking
• 24:50
Speaker 4: for the San Diego.
• 24:52
  Speaker 2: Chargers up there.
• 24:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, and I would be looking if if Michael Parsons
• 24:56
Speaker 4: can stay on the field, you gotta get a packer something,
• 24:58
  Speaker 4: because I mean, that's a legit. You'd a meant, you know,
• 25:01
Speaker 4: eleven to maybe fifteen sacks. That changes the complexity of
• 25:05
Speaker 4: what you do offense. And if Jordan Love can stay healthy,
• 25:09
Speaker 4: I mean, and you got to put the pack up
• 25:11
Speaker 4: and you know, hopefully, I mean, I don't know what
• 25:13
Speaker 4: you know, because I'm kind of semi rooting for the Bengals,
• 25:16
Speaker 4: but you know, if we can get an offensive line
• 25:19
Speaker 4: to do to protect a little bit, then.
• 25:21
Speaker 6: They were around eleven and most of them.
• 25:24
Speaker 2: See but see to those rankings, I think.
• 25:28
Speaker 4: I think teams that are I think it's difficult for
• 25:31
Speaker 4: teams that are ranked or it has the expectation to
• 25:35
Speaker 4: be the Super Bowl team.
• 25:36
Speaker 2: I think they have pressure, a lot of pressure.
• 25:40
Speaker 6: I think walk through the door they had pressure.
• 25:43
Speaker 4: Well, yeah, yeah, because you can't falling short and you
• 25:48
Speaker 4: play and you lose an NFC championship game.
• 25:50
Speaker 2: That's not falling short. No, you know what I'm saying.
• 25:53
Speaker 4: I mean you did a lot. I mean you team, Yeah,
• 25:56
Speaker 4: you got to that point. But people see that as like, oh,
• 26:00
Speaker 4: they didn't make it.
• 26:02
Speaker 5: We had that conversation before, like you're talking about the Steelers,
• 26:05
Speaker 5: Like it's different types of fan bases, the fan bases
• 26:07
  Speaker 5: of the Chiefs.
• 26:08
Speaker 6: If they don't win the super Bowl, it's been a
• 26:09
  Speaker 6: bad year.
• 26:10
Speaker 5: If you're a Giants fan and you make the playoffs,
• 26:15
Speaker 5: you know, I mean, it's it's all about.
• 26:16
Speaker 2: And you're looking forward to next season. Yeah, and I
• 26:18
Speaker 2: think you mentioned the Steelers too.
• 26:20
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I'm not necessarily the biggest Aaron
• 26:22
Speaker 4: Rodgers fan, but I think he's coming back with something
• 26:25
Speaker 4: to prove, you know what I mean, and still as
• 26:28
Speaker 4: they already have a solid organization from what everybody said,
• 26:31
Speaker 4: they were quarterback away. So I think he's gonna come
• 26:33
Speaker 4: back with the vengeance bar and that he can stay healthy.
• 26:36
Speaker 4: So that might be that's.
• 26:38
Speaker 6: Their key, Kep saying, and that really is the key
• 26:41
Speaker 6: for almost every team.
• 26:42
  Speaker 2: Yes, you're you.
• 26:48
Speaker 4: Got to protect him because he can't get out of
• 26:50
Speaker 4: the pocket, so he's a standing target.
• 26:53
Speaker 2: Teams are gonna know it, what are they gonna do?
• 26:55
Speaker 2: We're gonna blitch you.
• 26:56
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I don't know.
• 26:58
Speaker 4: I don't know if you blitz him because he's you apart,
• 27:02
Speaker 4: because he can he got that quick release, he got that.
• 27:05
Speaker 4: He still got that quick really and he's sitting in
• 27:07
Speaker 4: the gun. I think you have to zone scheme him.
• 27:09
Speaker 4: You got to come up with some razzle dazzle now,
• 27:11
Speaker 4: I think if you again, no, we're getting technical. But
• 27:16
  Speaker 4: I don't think playing zone against him. I think that's
• 27:20
Speaker 4: where he can pick you apart. Why becaun't like zone?
• 27:22
Speaker 4: And then you like maybe showing zone. You go to man,
• 27:25
Speaker 4: you show me anything. You gotta give him some clouds.
• 27:28
Speaker 4: You gotta play with him. You gotta play with him
• 27:30
Speaker 4: a little bit for sure. You know, it's like a
• 27:32
Speaker 4: straight up zone. You would get dingy yeah himself.
• 27:36
  Speaker 2: And at the.
• 27:37
Speaker 5: Bottom of the list, guys, let's go there. Let's just
• 27:39
Speaker 5: see who's hanging around at the end. Got the Saints
• 27:43
Speaker 5: at number thirty two and Browns thirty one, and those
• 27:46
Speaker 5: two kind of were interchanged and different and just you know,
• 27:51
Speaker 5: you know what, especially the Browns.
• 27:54
  Speaker 6: I mean, I don't I like the Browns.
• 27:56
  Speaker 4: I don't grow up like a die hard, like I'm
• 27:58
Speaker 4: crying when they when they and It amazes me to
• 28:04
Speaker 4: this to the point of like, how how have you
• 28:08
Speaker 4: gone this far down and just and you're staying there And.
• 28:12
Speaker 5: They've tried, they've tried so many different things with you know,
• 28:16
Speaker 5: the draft and trading players, and they still can't get
• 28:19
  Speaker 5: out of that.
• 28:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, I just don't. I don't to me when like again,
• 28:23
Speaker 4: you know, I'm definitely novice, just kind of watching them
• 28:25
Speaker 4: the sidelines, But it just seems like the good organizations
• 28:28
Speaker 4: they build sort of from the ground up, so they
• 28:31
Speaker 4: don't go necessarily for flash They'll start with those offensive linemen,
• 28:34
Speaker 4: they'll start with those defensive linements, the non flashy positions.
• 28:38
Speaker 4: They'll establish that foundation and didn't just build out slowly
• 28:41
Speaker 4: and steadily where it just I mean, hell, excuse me.
• 28:45
Speaker 4: The Browns had the grounds had five, but they had
• 28:49
Speaker 4: five quarterbacks. I mean it's just you draft, you're gonna
• 28:52
Speaker 4: draft a quarterback in the third round, and you draft
• 28:54
Speaker 4: a quarterback in the fifth round. It's just like, man,
• 28:56
  Speaker 4: you're not serious.
• 28:57
Speaker 2: Well to your point, look at look at Kansas City.
• 29:01
Speaker 4: Nobody was watching Kansas City as Kansas City was building facts.
• 29:05
Speaker 6: That's a fact, you know what I'm saying.
• 29:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, they were year and year out they get this guy.
• 29:15
Speaker 4: They get this guy, and then all of a sudden
• 29:19
Speaker 4: you're like looking at him and you're like, oh my gosh.
• 29:22
Speaker 2: Who can beat them? Where did they get that corn?
• 29:25
  Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
• 29:25
Speaker 4: GM's gms and and coaching matters, like it matters. I
• 29:30
Speaker 4: think when you look at good organizations, you always have
• 29:34
Speaker 4: a good GM and a good coach associated or just
• 29:37
Speaker 4: a dynamic quarterback like a Brady. Even like what Tampa
• 29:41
Speaker 4: Bay is doing. I think Tampa Bay is going to
• 29:42
Speaker 4: They may not win the Super Bowl, but they're going
• 29:45
Speaker 4: to be in the mix in the NFC South. So
• 29:47
Speaker 4: you know, I don't know, man, And I think to
• 29:50
Speaker 4: your to your GM conversation, I mean I can validate that, yeah, yeah, right.
• 29:58
Speaker 4: In fact, when you start to talking about a GM
• 30:00
Speaker 4: and you you've got to have a GM that players
• 30:04
Speaker 4: are you know, everybody's not going to get the contract
• 30:08
Speaker 4: that they want, but for the most part, the team
• 30:11
Speaker 4: is going to be happy because the players are going
• 30:13
Speaker 4: in getting the contracts getting back out on the field.
• 30:16
Speaker 4: You might have one or two, but you can't have
• 30:18
Speaker 4: a general manager where you that guys are talking.
• 30:21
Speaker 2: About in the locker room.
• 30:24
Speaker 4: Hey, the vikings with with Mike Lynn, like nobody wanted
• 30:30
Speaker 4: to even deal with him on a contract, right because
• 30:33
Speaker 4: he was just so like when when when you say
• 30:36
Speaker 4: to somebody, if you don't like this contract, you can
• 30:38
Speaker 4: go drive a bus, like and I said that before,
• 30:42
Speaker 4: you know, so when you you know, when you.
• 30:53
Speaker 6: Kept calling and Michael, did you see the press kept
• 30:55
  Speaker 6: calling it?
• 30:56
Speaker 7: Michael, Come on, when you have that kind of gen,
• 31:00
Speaker 7: it's hard to win because the because your players are
• 31:04
Speaker 7: holding on to the fight that you had for the contract,
• 31:08
Speaker 7: the words that the GM's saying, you know, like why
• 31:11
Speaker 7: is he even talking?
• 31:13
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, Like.
• 31:16
Speaker 4: Back in the day, it wasn't it wasn't like GM's
• 31:19
Speaker 4: had a lot of space to talk. But Mike Linn
• 31:22
Speaker 4: would he would steal it just purposely to say something stupid,
• 31:27
Speaker 4: just for the players to dislike him even more because
• 31:30
Speaker 4: I really felt like he was the kind of guy
• 31:32
Speaker 4: that didn't want you to actually like him.
• 31:34
Speaker 2: And I think that's so he.
• 31:36
Speaker 6: Doesn't get a Christmas card from you.
• 31:38
Speaker 5: What you're saying, no, no, no.
• 31:42
Speaker 7: You know, God rest is so but no, it was
• 31:46
Speaker 7: just even then, Yeah, it just was It was.
• 31:48
Speaker 2: Just a bad It was just a bad situation. You
• 31:51
  Speaker 2: know that.
• 31:52
Speaker 4: I think most of the players felt that the worst thing,
• 31:55
Speaker 4: that the worst thing of professional football was to have
• 31:58
Speaker 4: to go in and meet with Mike Lynn and try
• 32:01
Speaker 4: to get a deal. That was That was the worst
• 32:04
Speaker 4: That was the worst part of it. All Right, Well,
• 32:05
Speaker 4: we're gonna take a quick break and we will be
• 32:07
  Speaker 4: right back.

Speaker 3: Now back to the conversation.
• 33:37
Speaker 2: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are back.
• 33:40
Speaker 4: And uh I'm for the first time. I guess I
• 33:43
Speaker 4: got a chance to have a basically almost a half
• 33:48
Speaker 4: a show talking about the biking that God was good
• 33:53
Speaker 4: because you had you had a perspective, just like I said,
• 33:55
Speaker 4: because you were there during the first quote unquote herschel
• 33:58
  Speaker 4: Walker trade.
• 33:59
Speaker 2: Now we're in walking number two.
• 34:00
Speaker 6: So it's cathartic for you. Wasn't yes, it was yes, yes.
• 34:06
  Speaker 1: Oh.
• 34:07
Speaker 5: I just I wanted to touch on you know, opening week
• 34:09
Speaker 5: of college of football. It was just it was it
• 34:12
Speaker 5: was like a highlight reel. I mean, it was everything
• 34:14
Speaker 5: you wanted and then some you know, there was something
• 34:16
Speaker 5: for everybody. You had close games, you had upsets, you
• 34:20
Speaker 5: had you know, outside of the game, you had you know,
• 34:22
Speaker 5: the Lee Corso his his final college game day show. Uh,
• 34:27
Speaker 5: Bill Belichick coming out for his first game since NFL.
• 34:30
Speaker 6: I mean, it was just so much stuff.
• 34:31
  Speaker 5: It was.
• 34:32
Speaker 6: It was a great opening weekend.
• 34:35
Speaker 5: So you know, maybe we could just start with our
• 34:37
Speaker 5: local teams because you know, we had we had two big,
• 34:40
Speaker 5: big games going on with WVU and Marshall and I'll
• 34:44
Speaker 5: just throw this out here to you guys, but you know,
• 34:46
Speaker 5: I just felt like let's start with WU. You know,
• 34:50
Speaker 5: they they looked the second half like they're they're going
• 34:53
Speaker 5: to have a decent season.
• 34:54
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 34:54
Speaker 5: The first half they had the fumbles, they had like
• 34:56
Speaker 5: three fumbles. You know, once they worked out the kinks
• 34:59
Speaker 5: of that. They were kind of in control. Marshall and Athens,
• 35:02
Speaker 5: we just can't they were out of control. It was
• 35:05
Speaker 5: it was just an ugly game. What were your thoughts
• 35:08
  Speaker 5: on those games?
• 35:09
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, it's kind of hard to tell
• 35:11
Speaker 4: because you have one team WVU, who was clearly, you know,
• 35:15
Speaker 4: a dominant team to an FCS opponent, and then you
• 35:19
Speaker 4: have Marshall who was clearly outclassed by FBS opponent. So
• 35:24
Speaker 4: it's one of them situations in which I don't really
• 35:26
Speaker 4: know what you have right now. So I think it's
• 35:29
Speaker 4: going to be like once you get into lead player,
• 35:31
Speaker 4: once you get two opponents who are you kind of
• 35:34
Speaker 4: on your same level, if you will, then you'll be
• 35:37
Speaker 4: able to kind of see what it is. Because even
• 35:39
Speaker 4: to the point where like Marshall, they beat Notre Dame
• 35:41
Speaker 4: a couple of years, they played all the way up
• 35:43
Speaker 4: and then once they got the conference, you really kind
• 35:45
Speaker 4: of saw who they were. So even a loss or
• 35:47
Speaker 4: win at that higher level, I don't really know if
• 35:50
Speaker 4: it tells you anything. So I didn't really get much
• 35:52
Speaker 4: out of that, And a lot of times in the
• 35:54
Speaker 4: first week you got quote money games. Oh for sure,
• 35:58
Speaker 4: somebody Marshall. Marshall's definitely was in money. They were both
• 36:02
Speaker 4: wearing money games. W was playing Marshall, and I think
• 36:10
Speaker 4: the coach understands that how this game is going to go.
• 36:14
Speaker 4: You know, now, does is there a chance that you
• 36:16
Speaker 4: can win the game, Yes, but if you you're not
• 36:19
Speaker 4: taking that game, if you don't have the money, yeah, you.
• 36:22
Speaker 5: Know, and Marshall, in all fairness to them, I mean,
• 36:24
Speaker 5: I totally agree. We don't know what they'll look like
• 36:26
Speaker 5: in conference play either. Either team lost their whole team,
• 36:29
Speaker 5: but they lost their whole team and they have a
• 36:31
Speaker 5: brand new coaching staff and they walk into the lions
• 36:33
Speaker 5: Den first game. I mean, that was That's a tough,
• 36:35
Speaker 5: tough thing and most teams couldn't hang with Georgia.
• 36:37
Speaker 4: And that's the thing I watched Saturday. I literally watched
• 36:41
Speaker 4: football from noon to midnight, and I watched Southern Miss
• 36:44
Speaker 4: so I've got to I got to see Marshall ye down.
• 36:49
  Speaker 2: So I said.
• 36:50
Speaker 6: They were wearing green and white, so.
• 36:52
Speaker 4: They might as well just had a little green on.
• 36:53
Speaker 4: So I got to see them a little bit. But
• 36:55
Speaker 4: you know, I don't know what we got. But you know,
• 36:57
Speaker 4: like I said, outside of those two games, was some
• 37:00
Speaker 4: huge games. We had Texas and Ohio State arch manning.
• 37:04
Speaker 4: He looked, he looked very uncomfortable for three of the
• 37:07
Speaker 4: four quarters, very uncomfortable. Yes, again again, i'd I'll say
• 37:12
Speaker 4: the same thing. You don't know what you really have.
• 37:14
Speaker 4: I think you know that first game, Jitters, they're playing
• 37:17
Speaker 4: in the big house. Well they're playing Ohio State, and
• 37:20
Speaker 4: you know, I think he's going to be good later.
• 37:23
Speaker 4: But he definitely looked a little shake. And you know
• 37:25
Speaker 4: what everybody's going to do is everybody's going depress it.
• 37:29
Speaker 2: Everybody's gonna come in attacking Blitze and make.
• 37:32
  Speaker 6: Him uncomfortably happen.
• 37:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, he because if he has a chance to be great,
• 37:37
Speaker 4: we're not going to give it to you on our
• 37:39
Speaker 4: on our watch. We're gonna make you as uncomfortable as
• 37:43
Speaker 4: we possibly can. And then once you see that on
• 37:45
Speaker 4: film of how you responded to that, Oh, we're definitely
• 37:50
Speaker 4: gonna do that. But I think he'll be better. I
• 37:52
Speaker 4: think because he's going to watch the film too. The highlight,
• 37:54
Speaker 4: his highlight was he had about ten commercials.
• 37:57
Speaker 6: Yes, and I always was the strong.
• 38:02
Speaker 4: Let me let me say something about that. Okay, here's
• 38:05
Speaker 4: here's my problem. With with with a player having a
• 38:09
Speaker 4: commercial during a game that he's playing.
• 38:13
  Speaker 2: I just don't see how that's.
• 38:15
Speaker 4: You know, because ethical just it just doesn't just seem
• 38:18
Speaker 4: it just doesn't seem right to me. It is coaches
• 38:24
Speaker 4: got commercials during the game. I just I guess I'm
• 38:28
Speaker 4: too old school to to to think that that's something
• 38:32
Speaker 4: that's okay. And I don't want to change the subject,
• 38:35
Speaker 4: but I just like, I just don't see the idea.
• 38:39
Speaker 6: Do we see that typically in college football though?
• 38:41
Speaker 2: I mean I've seen it a lot last year.
• 38:45
Speaker 5: Reason maybe because of the of the you know, so
• 38:48
Speaker 5: many of them. Maybe that's why it kind of caught
• 38:50
Speaker 5: my attention this time. But I don't remember as many
• 38:52
  Speaker 5: last year.
• 38:52
Speaker 4: I think, I want to say, Jayden, well not last year,
• 38:54
Speaker 4: maybe the year before is when I started to see.
• 38:56
Speaker 4: I want to say, like Jayde and Daniels had like
• 38:58
Speaker 4: a power Aide commercial. So I've started seeing. But I
• 39:01
Speaker 4: think this is going to be the norm. I mean,
• 39:03
Speaker 4: because this is when you're going to sell the products.
• 39:05
Speaker 4: So if you're looking for your return on investment, I
• 39:07
Speaker 4: want to have the commercial when the kids playing, when
• 39:09
Speaker 4: the eyes are watching.
• 39:10
Speaker 5: And now that they have that cap that's the way
• 39:12
Speaker 5: the players are going to make most of their money.
• 39:14
Speaker 4: And I like this better. To me, I like this better.
• 39:17
Speaker 4: There's just some collective just paying. Yeah, you know, like
• 39:20
Speaker 4: at the very least, this is a true NIL. If
• 39:22
Speaker 4: I'm going to promote products and use my name, image
• 39:24
Speaker 4: and likeness, I like it. So I don't mind it
• 39:26
  Speaker 4: at all.
• 39:27
Speaker 5: I don't like it during the same game they're playing,
• 39:29
Speaker 5: I don't like that part. Yeah, that's how Yeah, I mean,
• 39:33
Speaker 5: the fans of the players.
• 39:34
Speaker 6: Are going to be watching.
• 39:34
Speaker 4: That's where you're going to get the most most because
• 39:37
Speaker 4: I think if you have an NIL, even at West Virginia,
• 39:39
Speaker 4: how it's set up. If I'm a company and if
• 39:42
Speaker 4: i got some superstar athlete, then I'm trying to promote
• 39:45
Speaker 4: I have him in my shirt, on my clothes. I'm
• 39:48
Speaker 4: going to have the commercial when they when they're playing,
• 39:51
Speaker 4: I want to I want that spot. So the people
• 39:53
Speaker 4: who are watching them, Oh that's so and so he's
• 39:55
Speaker 4: playing the game. Let me go buy.
• 39:57
Speaker 5: You know, what do you guys think about FSU upsetting Alabama?
• 40:00
Speaker 6: Those fans they're big mad. Yeah, they're big mad.
• 40:03
Speaker 5: I've seen some videos that were pretty hilarious on social
• 40:06
Speaker 5: media about how the fans are reacting.
• 40:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's it's big for for to say
• 40:10
Speaker 4: I love the parody like of college football. To me,
• 40:14
Speaker 4: that's why I like this weekend of college football because
• 40:17
Speaker 4: it really showed parody. We don't necessarily know who's going
• 40:20
Speaker 4: to be good, we don't know who's going to be bad.
• 40:22
Speaker 4: There was obsess to this army got you know, it's
• 40:24
Speaker 4: all these upsetting, all these things happening. So it really
• 40:27
Speaker 4: sets it up for these next twelve or so weeks
• 40:30
Speaker 4: to say, you know, we really get to watch this
• 40:33
Speaker 4: soaproper playout. Let me ask this question to both of
• 40:35
Speaker 4: you all to be a positive potential positive response on nil.
• 40:43
Speaker 4: Do you think this structure is based off of nil
• 40:47
Speaker 4: and why these games are so close and teams are
• 40:49
Speaker 4: upsetting other teams? Is it because of nil? Or do
• 40:54
Speaker 4: you think it's just is it just in spite of it?
• 40:57
Speaker 4: I don't think it has anything to do with nil,
• 40:59
Speaker 4: I think, well I say that, let me take that back.
• 41:01
Speaker 4: I think it has to do with just a transfer portal,
• 41:03
Speaker 4: because like if you're like for example, even if like
• 41:06
Speaker 4: if you're coach Belichick, you're coaching the Tar Hills back
• 41:10
Speaker 4: in the day, he would have had the opera He's
• 41:12
Speaker 4: gonna If he had a seventy eighty man roster, he
• 41:15
Speaker 4: probably would have had seventy players from the year before,
• 41:18
Speaker 4: so he could have went back watched the tape of
• 41:20
Speaker 4: all those guys see exactly what they had, and he
• 41:22
Speaker 4: would have been able to implement a plan moving forward
• 41:25
Speaker 4: to capitalize on the strengths and weaknesses. But now you
• 41:28
Speaker 4: got forty guys coming in from forty different places, so
• 41:32
Speaker 4: it's hard to you know. And to your point, NIL
• 41:36
Speaker 4: may have something to do that if I can get
• 41:38
Speaker 4: a better deal here or there.
• 41:39
Speaker 5: So and did they implement the rule this year this
• 41:43
Speaker 5: year with the cap of nil the twenty million for
• 41:46
  Speaker 5: each school?
• 41:47
Speaker 6: Was it twenty or twenty five million?
• 41:49
  Speaker 4: I think that's from what I understand. I don't know
• 41:52
Speaker 4: if it's gonna be implemented this year or next.
• 41:54
Speaker 5: Year, okay, because I was thinking maybe that could make
• 41:55
Speaker 5: a difference, and you know what we're seeing. I was
• 41:58
Speaker 5: pleasantly shocked to see the upsets and the games being
• 42:02
Speaker 5: as close as they were, because we're all used to
• 42:04
Speaker 5: seeing the SEC teams just come in and dominate, and
• 42:08
Speaker 5: it wasn't that way this weekend. So you know, I'm
• 42:12
Speaker 5: kind of, you know, optimistic. I could say that maybe
• 42:15
Speaker 5: this season it won't be as you know, divided into
• 42:18
Speaker 5: the halves and the have nots.
• 42:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, and I like it that way. I don't like
• 42:21
Speaker 4: I mean everybody. I mean, if you talk to anybody
• 42:23
Speaker 4: in South, of course, they want the SEC to dominate.
• 42:25
  Speaker 4: I don't like that. I don't like when you have
• 42:27
Speaker 4: one conference just running through everybody. I like when the
• 42:31
Speaker 4: ACC is good and Big twelve, you know, the Big twelve.
• 42:33
Speaker 4: I like when you know, we don't know who's gonna
• 42:36
Speaker 4: come out of what. I want to see a good
• 42:38
Speaker 4: mix in the playoffs. So we what is it, twelve teams?
• 42:40
Speaker 4: So if you have twelve teams, I want to see
• 42:42
Speaker 4: them spread out among conferences, you know, outside of the
• 42:44
Speaker 4: four champions. All right, let me so I'm gonna I'm
• 42:46
Speaker 4: going to ask this question to both of you and
• 42:48
Speaker 4: see if you think this would to get to get
• 42:51
Speaker 4: to what I think you want. What if NIL was
• 42:57
Speaker 4: let's say capped at just the random number a million dollars,
• 43:02
Speaker 4: so every team has a million dollars that can spend
• 43:06
  Speaker 4: on an il.
• 43:07
  Speaker 2: I think that's the way it's gonna be moving, It's
• 43:09
Speaker 2: gonna be moving. Do you think that.
• 43:11
Speaker 4: Do you think that in its own right can help
• 43:14
Speaker 4: balance out the team? I don't think nil is the issue.
• 43:18
Speaker 4: The issue is the movement, the transferring of the players.
• 43:21
Speaker 4: But I'm transferring because I'm getting more money. You may
• 43:24
Speaker 4: or you may not be right, so I think. But
• 43:26
Speaker 4: even if you can only you know if you had
• 43:29
Speaker 4: a lout one transfer something today that I was watching
• 43:31
Speaker 4: something online. This kid is quarterback. He'd been to six
• 43:34
Speaker 4: different schools. See that's that makes no sense. So I
• 43:37
Speaker 4: think it's the movement that that hurts the continuity because
• 43:40
Speaker 4: to your point, which and I'm kind of contradicting myself,
• 43:43
Speaker 4: but it's a good thing and a bad thing because.
• 43:45
Speaker 6: Now they need to limit it.
• 43:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, but now Alabama does doesn't get the stock up
• 43:50
Speaker 4: players you know, all have to work to get. They
• 43:53
Speaker 4: got to work to get them. So now if I'm
• 43:54
Speaker 4: that third string running back and I may be getting two, three,
• 43:57
Speaker 4: four touches a game, I can go to the next
• 44:00
Speaker 4: school at the same level. I ain't gotta go down.
• 44:02
  Speaker 4: I can go to l s U. I can go
• 44:04
Speaker 4: to Michigan State, I can go somewhere else.
• 44:06
Speaker 6: They can also work against the team.
• 44:07
Speaker 5: You know what I mean in combination with the nil
• 44:10
Speaker 5: because we've talked about this, the Marshall team in the
• 44:12
Speaker 5: nineties with with Chad Pennington and Randy Moussel that would
• 44:15
Speaker 5: have never existed in this day and age of transfer
• 44:17
Speaker 5: portal combined within il, it can be a good and
• 44:21
Speaker 5: it can be negative.
• 44:21
Speaker 4: See, and I don't and to that point, Lisa like,
• 44:24
  Speaker 4: I don't think that that's that's a good thing because
• 44:28
Speaker 4: those guys ended up well at least for sure, Randy
• 44:31
Speaker 4: dropped into Marshall, right, and now he drops there because
• 44:36
Speaker 4: if coach brewittt now the question is if that's today, Yeah,
• 44:41
Speaker 4: he would. Does coach Brewitt have the funds to to
• 44:45
  Speaker 4: attract him?
• 44:46
Speaker 2: Yeah? And I'm going to say, no, what other games
• 44:49
  Speaker 2: do we have?
• 44:50
Speaker 6: Let's see. So there was fsu.
• 44:52
Speaker 5: I said, oh, let's talk about Bill Belichick man and
• 44:56
  Speaker 5: the u n C against TCU.
• 44:58
Speaker 6: So tell us, tell us what your thoughts.
• 45:00
Speaker 4: I'm gonna record and say it. I think he's and
• 45:02
Speaker 4: this is going to be blasphemy. He's an overrated coach,
• 45:06
Speaker 4: I think again. And that's and that's unbelievable to say
• 45:09
Speaker 4: about a seven time Super Bowl champion. But I think
• 45:12
Speaker 4: if you look at Bill Belichick's record, outside of Bill
• 45:15
Speaker 4: Parcells and outside of Tom Brady, he's average, mediocre best
• 45:19
  Speaker 4: as a coach, and I and I do and I
• 45:22
Speaker 4: don't see a situation in which, again and again it's
• 45:25
Speaker 4: a little disadvantage in my eyes, where you have a
• 45:27
Speaker 4: basically a whole new team because of and all that.
• 45:30
Speaker 4: But I don't see a situation in which the tar
• 45:32
Speaker 4: Hills are going to be good this year and I
• 45:34
Speaker 4: think he's going to be gone in two to three.
• 45:37
  Speaker 2: That's my mold. I think. So I think, I don't think.
• 45:41
Speaker 4: I think again, outside of Bill Parcels and Tom Brady,
• 45:45
  Speaker 4: he's not a good he's a he's an average head coach.
• 45:49
Speaker 5: And you know, it could be that tcu' is that good,
• 45:52
Speaker 5: I mean, has been good for a while, so you know,
• 45:54
Speaker 5: we may be seeing something that you know, maybe some
• 45:58
Speaker 5: previews of championships at the you know, conferences level conference levels.
• 46:02
Speaker 5: But you and C I mean, it's like you said,
• 46:04
Speaker 5: it's way too early. You can't really say whether or not,
• 46:07
Speaker 5: you know, U n C is gonna be good or
• 46:09
Speaker 5: not good, and same for TCU.
• 46:11
Speaker 6: But TCU look pretty strong. They did, they dominated I don't.
• 46:14
Speaker 4: Know how good un c Again, you can't tell anything
• 46:18
Speaker 4: you know, so we'll see.
• 46:19
  Speaker 2: See.
• 46:20
Speaker 4: So now I'm gonna pose this question back at you, Hollis,
• 46:24
Speaker 4: So is it the coach?
• 46:26
Speaker 2: Is it the team? No, it's a coach. I strongly.
• 46:30
Speaker 4: The more I've watched football, I ain't even saying football,
• 46:33
Speaker 4: the more I watch team sports, even individual sports. You
• 46:37
Speaker 4: take wrestlers, can you know? Or MMA guys can go
• 46:39
Speaker 4: from one level to the next with the trainer or whatever.
• 46:42
Speaker 4: I think it has a lot to do with coaching.
• 46:44
Speaker 4: Coaching is everything, particularly at a collegiate level. If you
• 46:48
Speaker 4: the better your coach is, the better your team is
• 46:50
Speaker 4: going to be. If you drop off Nick Saban right
• 46:53
Speaker 4: now in North Carolina, by they might lose a couple
• 46:56
Speaker 4: coming out because he has to adjust. I'm talking about
• 46:58
Speaker 4: if you drop him off today and by by you know,
• 47:02
Speaker 4: week six are going to be looking like a championship team.
• 47:05
Speaker 4: I think it has to do it. We've just seen
• 47:07
Speaker 4: it too much. Coaches go and coaches win everywhere. I
• 47:10
Speaker 4: don't see. Okay, I'm gonna agree in part with you,
• 47:15
Speaker 4: but who could possibly have ever stepped into Nick Saban's job?
• 47:22
Speaker 2: I'm just no but I'm just saying.
• 47:26
Speaker 4: Who would be I would never take that job, not
• 47:29
Speaker 4: that they would ever offer it, but I'm just saying.
• 47:31
Speaker 2: But you know what I'm saying. Right after Nick Saber,
• 47:33
Speaker 2: I know you're talking about the money. Do you think
• 47:36
  Speaker 2: that job?
• 47:38
Speaker 4: He got ten million a year? Yeah, sign me up.
• 47:43
Speaker 4: Let's go ahead, let's go ahead, get the staff together.
• 47:46
Speaker 4: But but what kind of I mean, that's big, big,
• 47:54
Speaker 4: big shoes to feel somebody. But I'm just saying, you
• 47:58
Speaker 4: think that? Do you do you think that they have
• 48:00
Speaker 4: the Do you think Alabama within the next couple of
• 48:04
Speaker 4: years will be back to where they know? Because I
• 48:07
Speaker 4: think what that coach stepped into, not only again we
• 48:09
Speaker 4: talked about it just previously, he stepped not only into
• 48:13
Speaker 4: Nick Saban's shoes, but he also stepped into the transfer portal.
• 48:16
Speaker 4: So again, I think that's why Nick. I think Nick
• 48:18
Speaker 4: Saban will probably be coaching right now. But not for
• 48:20
Speaker 4: that because you don't get to stack talent.
• 48:23
Speaker 5: So, in all fairness, should Alabama had even been ranked
• 48:26
Speaker 5: at number eight to start the season.
• 48:27
Speaker 2: You think decent last year? It's Alabama? So they still working.
• 48:30
Speaker 5: Up the cash, right, I mean, I'm just taking into
• 48:33
  Speaker 5: effect everything else.
• 48:37
Speaker 4: All right, So all right, let's let's let's switch gears
• 48:41
Speaker 4: and let's come down a little bit.
• 48:43
Speaker 2: Let's come a little bit more local.
• 48:46
Speaker 4: Coach Mays was hoping to get on tonight, but I
• 48:49
Speaker 4: don't think he had football practice, so we can excuse
• 48:51
Speaker 4: him for that. But I'm curious about one of the
• 48:56
Speaker 4: things I wanted to Let's set it up South Charleston.
• 48:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so South Charleston has come back to a coach. Well,
• 49:05
Speaker 2: hold up, they got their first win.
• 49:06
Speaker 4: They got their first win, I guess two three seasons,
• 49:10
Speaker 4: three seasons, so I think it's like a thousand some days.
• 49:12
Speaker 4: They got their first win, Okay, and it was against
• 49:15
Speaker 4: Ripley and Mary Yes and Hill Mary yes.
• 49:20
  Speaker 2: Yes. I'm wondering.
• 49:24
Speaker 4: Okay, all the all the respect for coach Mays as
• 49:28
Speaker 4: the coach and stepping into you know, the first game,
• 49:31
Speaker 4: winning the game, winning his first game back at South Charleston,
• 49:36
Speaker 4: my question is going forward, do you think that South
• 49:44
Speaker 4: Charleston is going to be able to be the South
• 49:48
Speaker 4: Charleston that we kind of have remembered with Coach Mays?
• 49:52
Speaker 2: Can he rebuild this and become the old South Trust
• 49:57
Speaker 2: like this season? I'm asking how long I think you
• 50:00
Speaker 2: give him a couple of seasons. Even next season, I
• 50:03
  Speaker 2: think he can. I don't.
• 50:04
Speaker 4: I think just to expect it this season that'd be lofty.
• 50:08
Speaker 4: But I think, you know, they already over the hump,
• 50:11
Speaker 4: you know, winning that game, because when you go, I mean,
• 50:13
Speaker 4: some of these kids, they haven't. This is their first
• 50:16
Speaker 4: win in high school and they've been at the program
• 50:18
Speaker 4: for two and three years. So I think that you know,
• 50:21
Speaker 4: not only was this a good win, I'm so like
• 50:24
Speaker 4: I'm elated for the kids. I'm elated for the community.
• 50:27
Speaker 4: I represent a part of that community. So this is
• 50:29
Speaker 4: just a big thing that we can you know, you
• 50:32
Speaker 4: can get that monkey off your back and you can,
• 50:33
Speaker 4: you know, start to move forward. So I think that
• 50:36
Speaker 4: he and his staff and the kids, they'll be able
• 50:39
Speaker 4: to to bring this thing back because you know, like
• 50:42
Speaker 4: I said, winning begets winning. And with our transfer rules here,
• 50:46
Speaker 4: you know, within the state of West Virginia, those kids
• 50:48
Speaker 4: coming out of South Charleston and Dumbar they have the
• 50:51
Speaker 4: freedom to go where they want. But I think if
• 50:53
Speaker 4: they see some progress moving at the high school, they'll
• 50:56
Speaker 4: be more adapt to stay local as opposed to transfer.
• 50:59
Speaker 4: I think I think all so I think some of
• 51:00
Speaker 4: the kids that he has touched in Putnam.
• 51:03
Speaker 2: County, Yeah, maybe maybe.
• 51:05
Speaker 4: May also may come because they like how he coaches
• 51:09
Speaker 4: his style and they already know all of that.
• 51:12
Speaker 2: So you could also get.
• 51:13
Speaker 4: That, which could which could be next year, next year,
• 51:17
Speaker 4: could be some maybe this year already.
• 51:19
  Speaker 2: I don't.
• 51:20
Speaker 4: I don't really know yet. Yeah, man, I just like
• 51:22
  Speaker 4: I said, I'm just I'm a I'm a lady. And
• 51:24
Speaker 4: it's like I said, you not only do you win
• 51:26
Speaker 4: your first game in about two three seasons, but you
• 51:28
Speaker 4: win it on a hell Mary, you know what I mean.
• 51:30
Speaker 4: So it's just like the we talked about drama this weekend.
• 51:33
Speaker 4: That's like trauma on drama.
• 51:35
Speaker 2: You know, well, he.
• 51:36
  Speaker 6: High school drama.
• 51:37
Speaker 4: He had mentioned to me earlier that like, he's not
• 51:44
  Speaker 4: the offensive coordinator, So he's not. I don't think he's
• 51:48
Speaker 4: being the offensive coordinator anymore. I think he's passing that
• 51:51
Speaker 4: on and being quote what you would call the true
• 51:53
Speaker 4: head coach, which I think what he wants to What
• 51:58
Speaker 4: my guess is he's doing that is he wants to
• 52:01
Speaker 4: actually be the leader of that team and not necessarily
• 52:04
Speaker 4: have to do the offense or do the defense, special
• 52:06
Speaker 4: teams or whatever, but be the leader of that team
• 52:09
Speaker 4: and pump that group up and maybe and he may
• 52:13
Speaker 4: be able to do that. And I and I personally,
• 52:15
Speaker 4: I just, you know, just like I said, my role,
• 52:18
Speaker 4: I'm not you know, obviously I'm not coaching anymore. But
• 52:20
Speaker 4: I get to see, you know, I have conversations at
• 52:22
Speaker 4: a different level with a lot of the coaches around here,
• 52:25
Speaker 4: and I just don't see how you would be a
• 52:27
Speaker 4: head coach and you know, call players or call defense,
• 52:31
Speaker 4: just because I understand now administratively sort of what it
• 52:35
Speaker 4: takes to even run a good high school program.
• 52:37
Speaker 2: It's not cheap to do.
• 52:38
Speaker 4: You gotta run, you gotta a fundraise, you gotta manage personalities,
• 52:42
Speaker 4: you manage and not only the players, you managing your
• 52:45
Speaker 4: coaching staff. You gotta deal with grades and the school.
• 52:47
Speaker 4: And black people have no idea.
• 52:51
  Speaker 2: What it takes.
• 52:53
Speaker 4: It's to coach football period, coach sports period.
• 52:57
Speaker 2: But I think football is a different beings. I think
• 52:59
  Speaker 2: it is too.
• 53:00
Speaker 4: I think it is with the number of players that
• 53:02
Speaker 4: you have, the number of coaches, number of coaches that
• 53:04
Speaker 4: you have, managing the coaches, managing the team, all of that.
• 53:09
  Speaker 4: That's that's a tough and it's a reason why, like
• 53:11
Speaker 4: football leagues fold like all the ones who try to
• 53:14
Speaker 4: not necessarily compete with the NFL, but try to be
• 53:16
Speaker 4: professional organizations because it takes so much. Because football you
• 53:19
Speaker 4: can't this ain't like basketball. But you can't go out
• 53:21
Speaker 4: there with two three ds. Now, you got to have.
• 53:24
Speaker 2: At least six, maybe ten dudes to help you like
• 53:27
Speaker 2: do this thing. Yes, yeah, you know, and trainers and
• 53:30
  Speaker 2: all that.
• 53:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, and trainers and you know, and going back to
• 53:33
Speaker 5: your point, hollis about you know, coaches are one of
• 53:35
Speaker 5: the most, if not the most important part of a
• 53:38
Speaker 5: winning team, you know. I mean Donnie has a history
• 53:41
Speaker 5: of it. I mean he wanted South Charleston, he left,
• 53:44
Speaker 5: he went to Hurricane and they were six. He was
• 53:47
Speaker 5: successful there. I think he was like twenty seven and ten.
• 53:50
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, while he was there for those three years.
• 53:52
Speaker 5: And now he's back and you know he's just he's
• 53:56
Speaker 5: got away with the kids.
• 53:57
Speaker 4: And coaching matters, like I just like, you can't understate it.
• 54:01
Speaker 4: It doesn't people don't they give they's like they blame
• 54:04
Speaker 4: the coach, but they don't also give the coach enough credit.
• 54:07
Speaker 4: Even till it's like I was talking crap about Bill Pelichick.
• 54:10
Speaker 4: He's a part of those seven champions. If he's not there,
• 54:12
Speaker 4: they don't win seven rings, you know what I mean.
• 54:14
Speaker 4: So I'm not trying to discount that, but like, if
• 54:17
Speaker 4: you got the right mix of players and the right timing,
• 54:20
Speaker 4: a good coach can really elevate that thing. So how
• 54:25
Speaker 4: how how quick? How quick do you think this South trust?
• 54:29
Speaker 4: Then change will come? I think you give him another year,
• 54:32
  Speaker 4: like a year. I think I think next year they'll
• 54:35
Speaker 4: find themselves in the playoffs, depending because I know they're
• 54:38
Speaker 4: still a fairly young team. I think this year to me,
• 54:41
Speaker 4: like I said, you kind of already won because you
• 54:43
  Speaker 4: won a game.
• 54:44
Speaker 2: I know that sounds like yo, yeah.
• 54:45
Speaker 4: That sounds petty, but I mean I think you know,
• 54:48
Speaker 4: you get you get five, you get five wins this season.
• 54:51
  Speaker 2: That's a very.
• 54:53
Speaker 4: Good year, you know, and they could probably get at
• 54:55
Speaker 4: least you know, I would say anywhere from three to five,
• 54:58
Speaker 4: you know. And to your point, the players who have
• 55:01
Speaker 4: been sitting there going year after year after year and
• 55:06
Speaker 4: hadn't seen a victory, and all of a sudden you
• 55:09
Speaker 4: see one over well at the last second of the game,
• 55:13
Speaker 4: all of a sudden, Now you're thinking you're believing.
• 55:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, you're believing in yourself.
• 55:18
Speaker 4: And and I'll say this, and Hollis you know this,
• 55:20
Speaker 4: and List you probably know this as well.
• 55:22
Speaker 2: The confidence that you have in yourself is everything.
• 55:25
Speaker 4: Is everything, I mean, and and you have to have
• 55:30
Speaker 4: something positive in order for you to to to think
• 55:34
Speaker 4: that you are something. And shout out to the kids
• 55:37
Speaker 4: who stayed. You know, Bosley, he's Exavier Bosi's little brother.
• 55:42
Speaker 4: Xavier plays office line for WVU and his little brothers at.
• 55:47
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 55:48
Speaker 4: I can't really call he bigger than me, but uh,
• 55:51
  Speaker 4: he's a South Charleston. He's been there since he's a
• 55:54
Speaker 4: pupp He never considered leaving. He he hasn't won a game.
• 55:57
Speaker 4: I think this is going to his third year.
• 55:58
Speaker 2: And that shout out.
• 55:59
Speaker 4: Shout out to shout out to the parents for not leaving,
• 56:02
Speaker 4: because I know, like it's tempting, like because you can
• 56:05
Speaker 4: go to Nitro, they're they're doing good good, you know,
• 56:07
Speaker 4: So it's other programs you can go to in close proximity.
• 56:10
Speaker 4: So I just, like I said, this was stuck it out,
• 56:13
Speaker 4: stuck it out, man, and this is a big win
• 56:15
Speaker 4: for the community. And I just I just truly don't
• 56:17
Speaker 4: think that leaving in school that all your friends are there,
• 56:24
Speaker 4: you know, you're familiar with everything because of a sport,
• 56:29
Speaker 4: you want to leave and go somewhere else. I just,
• 56:31
Speaker 4: I just I just don't know how to even fathom
• 56:34
Speaker 4: that in my head. And maybe because I'm so old
• 56:38
Speaker 4: that that could that would.
• 56:39
Speaker 6: Never It's a whole different general, that's a whole different process.
• 56:42
Speaker 5: But I'm just gonna say they have social media, they
• 56:46
Speaker 5: have they don't need to.
• 56:49
Speaker 6: See each other in person.
• 56:50
Speaker 5: That they see each other all the time, probably more
• 56:52
Speaker 5: than we did with our friends in school.
• 56:55
Speaker 4: But I will say to your point, for those kids
• 56:57
Speaker 4: who've been there, like think of a senior who's one
• 57:00
Speaker 4: and maybe one game and then won this one unbelievable
• 57:03
Speaker 4: just to say like dang, we was we have one
• 57:05
Speaker 4: for three season and we want to they'll have that
• 57:07
Speaker 4: story and they'll have that camaraderie. Even if this season
• 57:10
Speaker 4: they don't make the playoffs, they'll still they'll have that
• 57:13
Speaker 4: thing like we did this and you know we was
• 57:16
Speaker 4: able to overcome and we went from like you know,
• 57:18
Speaker 4: thirty and oh whatever we were over to thirty to
• 57:21
Speaker 4: now we maybe won two, three, four, five games.
• 57:23
  Speaker 2: So they'll have.
