- 0:23Speaker 1: So, yeah, we're going to talk about today the Rendezvous Hill Climb that happened this past weekend.
- 0:28Speaker 1: We're going to talk about the Up and Over Trail Run weekend that happened this past weekend in Taos, new Mexico, and, without further ado, I'm also going to talk about the CERI Zennal race coming up this weekend in Zennal, switzerland.
- 0:42Speaker 1: So excited for that one.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Um, we're going to preview that race a little bit and we're going to get into a nice little conversation on, uh, some picks for our top 10 men and women.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so let's get started.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We're going to talk about the rendezvous hill climb.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Uh, the rendezvous hill climb.
- 0:58Speaker 1: For those of you unaware, it takes place in Jackson hole, wyoming.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It is this iconic route 6.1 miles with almost 4,200 feet of vertical straight up, an escarpment in Jackson Hole, wyoming.
- 1:10Speaker 1: It took place this past Saturday, august 3rd 2024.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Some fun facts the course record holders are none other than the GOAT himself Mr Joseph Gray in 56 minutes 57 seconds Think about how crazy that is.
- 1:24Speaker 1: 6.1 miles, almost 4,200 feet of vert, and Joe did it in under an hour.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That is just absolutely bananas.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And Anna Gibson, new course record holder for 2024, getting it done in one hour seven minutes and 51 seconds.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So pretty exciting.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get into some results.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm just going to kind of gloss over these.
- 1:45Speaker 1: We'll start with the females and then head over to the men, and then we're just going to hop into the up and over trail weekend.
- 1:53Speaker 1: So we'll start with the females.
- 1:55Speaker 1: In first place was none other than new course record holder, anna Gibson, in one hour seven minutes 51 seconds.
- 2:01Speaker 1: In second place was JT Wynn in one hour 23 minutes 22 seconds.
- 2:05Speaker 1: In third place was Kelly Bettner in one hour 30 minutes nine seconds.
- 2:09Speaker 1: In fourth place was Danny Perry in one hour, 33, 14.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And in fifth place was Ashley Sinclair in one hour 34, 31.
- 2:20Speaker 1: On the men's side was none other than Mr Tyler McCandless, the second male ever.
- 2:25Speaker 1: He did it last year right behind Joe, and this year he did it again.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Second man ever to go under one hour.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Tyler got it done in just under an hour at 59.59.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Big shout out to him.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Very solid result, just guys, absolutely fit.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Another little footnote on Tyler if you're not familiar with him, he did play second this year at the Loon Mountain Race.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Um, that was the U S uphill.
- 2:48Speaker 1: So vertical championships, um.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So Tyler is going to be representing team USA along with Joseph gray.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Um, pretty exciting.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So big shout out to Tyler.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And second place was none other than Mr Christopher heard in one hour four minutes 21 seconds.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And third place was Aaron Robinson in one hour four minutes 55 seconds.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And fourth place was is Jaila?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Um Eli Wheeling, in one hour seven minutes 10 seconds.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And in fifth place was Ian Hosek in one hour eight minutes 28 seconds.
- 3:17Speaker 1: So big shout out to this athletes.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Um, big shout out to this race.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Um, rendezvous hill climb, just a really fun one, something you guys should think about.
- 3:26Speaker 1: If you're looking for just a vertical race.
- 3:28Speaker 1: We don't have too many of them in the United States.
- 3:30Speaker 1: We've got a few VKs floating around and some more popping up.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Um, but this is this is a little more uh of a vertical race as opposed to a vertical kilometer, um, because this is over a VK, obviously, and it's a bit longer, with 6.1 miles, with 4,200 feet of vert.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So definitely if you're looking for something that's all uphill, really big test of the fitness.
- 3:51Speaker 1: This course is absolutely disgusting, definitely something to put on your schedule.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Moving on, we're going to talk about what went down in Taos, new Mexico, this past weekend at the Up and Over Trail Run weekend.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Last year this was the USATF New Mexico 10K Championship.
- 4:07Speaker 1: This year it was not, but still attracted a really fun elite field, really fun race.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Like I said, it takes place over Saturday and Sunday, so it's a weekend kind of a festival.
- 4:17Speaker 1: They have a few different distances.
- 4:19Speaker 1: They have the 10K, which is the iconic course, and they have a new distance they implemented last year, called Verts Vertical, which is the iconic course, uh, and they have a new distance they implemented last year, called vert's vertical, which is basically a 1500 foot climb up a ski hill.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Um, maybe it's.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You can think of it as like a rendition of like pepe's face off um, which takes place at, like the gopro games, something similar to that, except you're not up and down, it's just basically a rut.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Who's the fastest up the ski hill.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so pretty exciting, the pretty exciting the 10 K course, if you guys are, it's like kind of like a Cirque Cirque series course, if you will.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Um, you're starting off pretty high up um, at around 9,000 feet, and you're getting it done at around 12 K Um.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So the 10 K course is about 2,600 feet of vertical.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So it's quite a lot um and high altitude as well.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So we can talk about the results of the 10K.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Big shout out to first place, female Miss Jenny Yeeman.
- 5:10Speaker 1: We're actually having her on the podcast tomorrow, so pretty exciting over there.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Not only is she the 10 backed up back 10K champ, but she also won the Kendall Mountain race this year, so she's on a heater.
- 5:22Speaker 1: She got it done in one hour three minutes 14 seconds.
- 5:26Speaker 1: In second place was Miss Emily Schwert in one hour nine minutes 14 seconds.
- 5:28Speaker 1: In second place was Miss Emily Schwert in one hour nine minutes 22 seconds.
- 5:30Speaker 1: In third place was Gianna Raymer in one hour 10 minutes 39 seconds.
- 5:35Speaker 1: In fourth place was Allison Mathis in one hour 10 minutes 52 seconds.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And in fifth place was Miss Janelle Smiley in one hour 14 minutes 42 seconds.
- 5:45Speaker 1: In first place was none other than on the men's side was none other than overall champion and course record holder, friend of the pod, mr jeffrey kuno.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Big shout out to jeff kuno, getting it done, getting not only the dub but, like I said, the course record.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And 52 minutes 56 seconds very stout um.
- 6:02Speaker 1: That might not be broken for a while, unless he comes back to break it again next year.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That is a very stout course record 52 minutes 56 seconds.
- 6:09Speaker 1: And second place was pride of Colorado Springs, mr Dan Metzger, in 54 minutes 12 seconds.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Big shout out to Dan.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And third place was Judith Daffrin or sorry, judah Daffrin in 54 minutes 46 seconds.
- 6:24Speaker 1: And fourth place was Dan Day in 56 minutes.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And in fifth place was Luke Janik in 56, 52.
- 6:30Speaker 1: So big shout out to the 10K runners.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They had quite a big turnout down in Taos.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Let's talk about the vertical race.
- 6:38Speaker 1: This is something that I was pretty stoked on.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I think this is a race I'm going to come back and do in a few years.
- 6:43Speaker 1: If I am around.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I definitely plan on getting to it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Schedule wise, it's just it's kind of tough to kind of fit into that early August schedule.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Results On the women's side none other than Miss Janelle Smiley took the dub in 44 minutes 10 seconds.
- 7:03Speaker 1: In second place was Jenny Yeaman, the 10K champion, in 48 minutes 15 seconds.
- 7:05Speaker 1: In third place was Kelly Weiss in 50 minutes 45 seconds.
- 7:09Speaker 1: In fourth place was Emily Schwert in 51 minutes 13 seconds, and third place was Kelly Weiss and 50 minutes 45 seconds.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And fourth place was Emily Schwert and 51 minutes 13 seconds.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And in fifth place was Sam Valentin and 54 minutes.
- 7:18Speaker 1: On the men's side was backed up back champion, mr Jeff Kuno and 37 minutes 17 seconds Guys are freak.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And second second place was Dan Metzger, again right behind Jeff K kuno, in 39 minutes.
- 7:30Speaker 1: In third place was matt van cleve in 41 minutes 14 seconds.
- 7:34Speaker 1: In fourth place was matt laycock in 42 minutes 46 seconds, and in fifth place was tyler king in 44 21.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Big shout out to all these athletes what a turnout, what a fun race.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Um, that's all I have for you as far as results go in the last couple weeks, or since last week actually Rendezvous who climb up, and over 10K weekend We've got some new stuff coming up we're going to chat about.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Most importantly, I am so excited.
- 8:01Speaker 1: It is series and all week Christmas comes.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But once a year and this is the second coming of christmas when it comes to series and all one of the most, if not the most, competitive trail race on the planet.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Um, so yeah, let's get into it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: This is going to be the fifth stop on the golden trail world series.
- 8:16Speaker 1: If you guys don't already know, the men's course record is held by none other than killian jordane the one of the goats, if not the goat in two hours 25 minutes 35 seconds.
- 8:26Speaker 1: The women's course record is held by one of the greatest of all time as well, ms Maude Matthews, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the race.
- 8:33Speaker 1: That is breaking news.
- 8:34Speaker 1: That actually just came out just before I recorded this in.
- 8:37Speaker 1: She holds the women's course record in two hours 49 minutes 20 seconds.
- 8:42Speaker 1: If you're unfamiliar with series, and all takes place in Zinal, switzerland, the races of 31K, which for you Americans is 19.26 miles, with about 2,200 meters of vertical, that's about 7,217 feet.
- 8:56Speaker 1: This is a huge race, especially by American standards.
- 8:59Speaker 1: 6,300 participants that's a lot of fucking people, wow.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Let's talk prize money the first place if you win, you get 2,000 Swiss francs for both the men and the women.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Second place is 1,600 Swiss francs and third place is 1,400.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And that's going to decrease by about 200 Swiss francs through 10th, if you get the course record, you could win about six, as you will win about 6,000 Swiss francs for a course record and evidently, since it's been about six years, will win about 6,000 Swiss francs for a course record and evidently, since it's been about six years since the last course record, they continue to raise it by 1000 Swiss francs for every year.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So if nobody gets it this year, it'll be 7000 for next year's course record, if they get the course record.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So it'll continue to go up.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So it's not telling how much money Killian won by getting the course record.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Uh, way back when.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So, pretty, pretty exciting.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Um, for those of you that are Americans as well, if you're curious as to what a Swiss Frank is, that's about a conversion of about 1.7 us dollars.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So 2000 Swiss Franks is about 2,342 us dollars.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So those of you math challenged out there, uh, just throwing you, throwing you a bone.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Uh, did I say this was one of the most competitive, if not the competitive, mountain races in the world?
- 10:12Speaker 1: It is so hard.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It starts off with like a 5,000 or 5,000 foot climb.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It's bananas.
- 10:19Speaker 1: We've got some news.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about some of the news here.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Killian Journet, the course record holder comes back.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Killian returns.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Maude Mathis has dropped out as of the recording of this on August, the 6th, um in the afternoon, so it's really unfortunate news to hear that Maude is not going to be competing.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Um Sophia Laukey, the women's champion, will be returning.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Uh, in other news, this will be Allie Ostrander's first golden trail series race of the season.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Um Joyce Nauru, um who, if you're unfamiliar with that name, put her on your free trail fantasy.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Joyce Nauru, who absolutely demolished the women's field at Broken Arrow, will be returning.
- 10:58Speaker 1: She returns.
- 10:59Speaker 1: She actually raced this last year, definitely touted as one of the favorites.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Joyce Nauru will be racing On the men's side.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Mr Christian Allen will be returning.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The US men's mountain running champion will be coming out to series and all to throw down.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Remy Bonnet will also be there.
- 11:17Speaker 1: He will be returning after kind of a bumpy start to his season.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I know he took a top five at mountain block marathon definitely not the result he was looking for.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So we'll see if Remy I know he's had kind of mixed results at series and all the Swiss.
- 11:30Speaker 1: He is Swiss, so this is kind of a hometown race for him.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I know it's one he's kind of struggled with in the past.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So we'll see if Remy could finally get this done.
- 11:40Speaker 1: In other news, mr Matt Daniels the American will be returning and not returning, I'm sorry.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He will be debuting at series and all Matt Daniels, if you're probably familiar with that name.
- 11:50Speaker 1: On the ultra side, matt Daniels has wheels.
- 11:53Speaker 1: My dude is a sub four minute miler.
- 11:57Speaker 1: He is so fast.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It is going to be really exciting to see what he can do in the short courses.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I think these will definitely play to his advantages and skills much, much closer.
- 12:08Speaker 1: So do not count Matt Daniels out this weekend.
- 12:10Speaker 1: You could very well see that guy show up, um, if not compete for the top 10, maybe the top five, who knows?
- 12:17Speaker 1: He definitely has the skill and talent to do it.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Um other Americans that are going to be turning up.
- 12:21Speaker 1: We got none other than my last part of a teammate.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Mr Noah Williams will be out there to race.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Um.
- 12:26Speaker 1: My boy and friend of the podcast, mr Kieran Ney, will be out there to race.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Big shout out to Kieran and Seth Ruling, the Pride of Boulder, colorado, will be out there as well.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So we're going to see what these Colorado boys can do at this race.
- 12:39Speaker 1: It should be fun to see, very excited for what things hold going into this race.
- 12:47Speaker 1: All right, the moment you guys have all been waiting for, let's talk picks.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Unfortunately this was not an official race preview so I don't have my co-host, nick Tusa, to to kind of bounce ideas off of, so we're going solo dolo on this one.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I'm going to start with the women.
- 13:03Speaker 1: In first place I'm going to go with Joyce Nauru.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I mean, guys, did you see what she did at Broken Arrow?
- 13:09Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just painting a story for you here.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Absolute beast.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Joyce Nauru dismantled the field at Broken Arrow.
- 13:17Speaker 1: She's had a great season so far.
- 13:19Speaker 1: She's a member, I believe she's from Kenya.
- 13:21Speaker 1: She's a member of the team run together for Team On.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Like I said, she raced this last year, which means she definitely knows the course.
- 13:28Speaker 1: As long as she shows up healthy, I'm going to put her as my clear favorite and I expect her to get it done.
- 13:35Speaker 1: We will see.
- 13:36Speaker 1: In second place, I'm going to go with Anna Gibson.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Anna, we all know, is fit.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Like I said, second at the VK at Broken Arrow.
- 13:44Speaker 1: She just took the double at the Rendezvous Hill Climb.
- 13:50Speaker 1: This girl can climb, she's fit.
- 13:51Speaker 1: She's had a phenomenal track season as well.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Um, you know, this race is a predominantly uphill race.
- 13:56Speaker 1: You don't really hit the descent until the final form.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Ish, miles four, four, three or four miles, um is a smoking fast descent.
- 14:03Speaker 1: You're not going to get that till the end of the race.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I think Ana has the fitness to be able to get away from other girls and if she can, she definitely has wheels for the descent.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Do not be surprised to see her in the top five, if not on the podium.
- 14:14Speaker 1: In the top three I would, I my clear and above second place could challenge for the win.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm going to put that out there.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think Anna Gibson is definitely a fit and ready to rock and roll.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Um, and third place, I'm going to go with the returning champion, sophia Loughley.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Um, normally I would have her in first place, but I know she's been dealing with some injuries.
- 14:33Speaker 1: We'll see what happens with the return of the Solomon athlete.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I think she definitely has the skill and the ability to win this race.
- 14:41Speaker 1: She did it last year.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It just depends on what kind of form she's in coming in.
- 14:45Speaker 1: In fourth place I have Judith Weider, absolute, one of the greatest of all time trail runners.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Hoka, hoka athlete.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Uh, judith tends to excel a little more on technical stuff, which is why I have her a little bit lower in the field, um.
- 14:59Speaker 1: But you know she's got wheels.
- 15:01Speaker 1: She's performed at this race in the past.
- 15:03Speaker 1: She is Swiss as well.
- 15:04Speaker 1: This is a home, home country race for her.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I'd love to see Judith get a big result here.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Um.
- 15:10Speaker 1: In fifth place I'm going to go with a Floria Madalena from Solomon, another just fast marathoner.
- 15:17Speaker 1: This girl has wheels as well.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I could definitely see her in the top five, if not competing for the win.
- 15:21Speaker 1: In sixth place I have none other than the pride of Breckenridge Colorado, alicia Vargo.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Do not sleep on that name.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Alicia is very fit.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Um definitely can compete for a top 10 position here.
- 15:33Speaker 1: She had a great result at mammoth trail fast last year.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Um, I you know just from a lot of people I know that are in the know um with you know that happened to know her.
- 15:41Speaker 1: No, she's a very good athlete, so do not sleep on.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Alicia Vargo.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Uh, this could be one of her breakout races.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Um.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And seven place I have none other thanaron clark, the pride of missoula montana team.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Nike athlete came out here last year and raced.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Probably didn't get the result that she was looking for.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Um, you know she's also got a, you know some high finishes at ccc.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I think she's a phenomenal athlete overall.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I think after maybe racing last year she may have learned a few things.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I definitely think she can come back and compete for the top 10.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Um, it's been a while since I've called number eight's name, ms Bailey Kowalczyk.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Um, she kind of had a little bit of a layoff in July and the back end of June, which I think was really smart.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Um, from a racing perspective, I think Bailey could definitely compete for the top 10 of this race.
- 16:27Speaker 1: If not when.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Um, it's going to be really fun to see her line up and go for it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: In ninth place I have Jolene Chepenego from Kenya.
- 16:37Speaker 1: She belongs to the team Mili Mani Runners.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And in 10th place I have Caitlin Felder just a very consistent athlete.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Usually ends up in the top 10, top 15 of most of these races anyway.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Always races the Golden Trail World Series Really consistent.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Solomon athlete hasn't had a massive breakthrough yet.
- 16:50Speaker 1: 15 in most of these races anyway.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Always races the golden trail world series.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Um, really consistent.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Solomon athlete hasn't had a massive breakthrough yet, but definitely could be on the cusp of one.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Like I said, she's very consistent.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I would not count her out of any top 10.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Let's talk men.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Um, in first place I'm going.
- 17:06Speaker 1: This is, this is uh, I think my top three are probably non-controversial, but I'm going to preface the four through 10 with probably being quite controversial and I don't give a fuck.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Safe money, don't make money, baby, all right.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So we're going to talk men.
- 17:22Speaker 1: First place I'm going to go Patrick Caponiego.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Patrick is just a world-dominator, world VK champion, back-to to back.
- 17:30Speaker 1: He's so good Um, I can't say that I raced him, because I might've seen him for like seven minutes and then that was the last I saw of him, uh, at Cirque series, brighton.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So I don't really want to put that out there, that I raced him.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Um, it was more so just stood on a start line and watched him go.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Um, insane athlete, just absolutely insane athlete, so fit um, somebody I really look up to in the sport and I just think he's uh, he's a model of um, you know what the future of the sport looks like and just such an incredible athlete.
- 18:01Speaker 1: So I'm going to say Patrick Kipanego for first.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Um, and second place I'm going to go this might be a little controversial Mr Killian Jornet.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Um, killian has come back in previous iterations of this race Hasn't won it in a few years.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That's why I've got him pegged a little bit lower.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It depends on what his training has been like.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Killian doesn't really put a lot out there, so it's always hard to tell.
- 18:21Speaker 1: You can never count him out.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I mean, look at what he did at Zagama Just absolutely demolished the field.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So he could very well do the same thing this year.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Um, killian's.
- 18:30Speaker 1: As you know, killian's climbing is definitely some of the best in the world, along with Patrick's.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Patrick, technically, is the best climber in the world at this point.
- 18:36Speaker 1: So it's going to be really fun to see what the stack up looks like.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Um, but yeah, I think Killian will top three, if not for compete for the win, um, so we'll see what happens there.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Third place I've got Remy Bonet.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Remy's an interesting case in this race.
- 18:55Speaker 1: So Remy's had some inconsistent results at Series 1 and all in the past.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Despite how dominant he's been in the last three or four years, he just has not gotten it done in Series 1 and all he's either dropped or not shown up.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I'm going to put him at third or DNF.
- 19:06Speaker 1: That's the way I look at it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I mean, I could be pleasantly surprised and have Remy just come out and just pull, just world beater and win this race.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Um, I, I don't know.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Like I said, he had a very inconsistent marathon.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Do Mont Blanc this year?
- 19:20Speaker 1: Um, it's hard to tell where he's at, I don't know.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Um, yeah, we're, we're going to see.
- 19:26Speaker 1: We're definitely going to see Uh.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So that's, I put them up there just because he's amongst the best in the world.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Um, if he does get it done, he gets it done.
- 19:34Speaker 1: One of the things that I thought was interesting, also with Remy, is that even he's going to need the points for the golden trail series races.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So I think he's going to push to finish, even if he's not in in the top top two, top three.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Um, we'll see.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I don't know this is going to.
- 19:53Speaker 1: It's going to be interesting to see what unfolds with Remy.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Um and fourth place I am going to go with none other than Mr Christian Allen, the pride of Orem, utah, nike athlete.
- 20:00Speaker 1: This kid is just getting started us mountain running, national champs.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Uh, he just uh stamped his ticket at Cirque series snowbird a few weeks back.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The dude is fit, he's in Europe now.
- 20:11Speaker 1: He's training, which means a few things.
- 20:13Speaker 1: It means he's adapted to, probably adapted to the diet.
- 20:17Speaker 1: He's adapted to the sleep schedule, cause he's been over there for a little bit now.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Um, yeah, I, like I said, I sing this kid's praises cause I do think he's the future of our sport.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I'm going to put them in fourth place.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Could compete Um, he's raced Patrick in the past.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Um, he's raced Patrick in the past.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Um, he, he knows what it's like to race a lot of these guys.
- 20:35Speaker 1: He's I don't think he's raised Killian Um, but he has raced a lot of these dudes in the past.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I know he raced Remy at Pikes last year, so it's going to be fun to see.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And he was right up in the mix at Pikes last year with a lot of these guys.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Uh, and his Achilles heel was was altitude?
- 20:49Speaker 1: Uh, altitude's really not going to be a huge factor at this race.
- 20:52Speaker 1: So we're going to see what happens.
- 20:53Speaker 1: But I'm going to put Christian Allen in fourth and fifth place.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I'm going to go with Remy LaRue.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Uh, he's a Canadian athlete who runs for Merrill.
- 21:02Speaker 1: He was a pickup this year for the trail team.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Kid is super consistent and just very talented.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Um, he's had great results at the um Mount Washington road race.
- 21:12Speaker 1: He's a great result at broken arrow he's.
- 21:14Speaker 1: He's been traveling a lot, racing a lot, um, I think he's has the 100%, has the ability to land on the top 10 here, um, and has the talent to land in the top five.
- 21:24Speaker 1: So don't don't count out that name, don't be surprised if he goes into fifth and sixth place.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I'm going to go with Phil Amon.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Um Kiriego, last year's champion, um.
- 21:34Speaker 1: The only reason I will put Phil Amon a little bit lower than Patrick cause I know they like to race together is because I'd say Phil Amon, I'd say Patrick's the better uphill runner, for sure.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Um, phil Amon, I.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It tends to be a little more and this is nothing against Phil Amon, this is just analyzing the way these guys race Um, phil Amon tends to be a little more catchable.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I noticed that at Cirque series, brighton, where David Norris was able to overtake him, um, and get in second place.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Um, it just, it really just depends.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Even though Phil Amon was last year's champion I don't know if he's in the same form that he was in last year I think he's definitely got the fitness for a top 10, no doubt about it.
- 22:12Speaker 1: But it's going to be interesting to see Um.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I know he had similar struggles at the broken arrow 23 K um and at the broken arrow VK, where he does seem to get a little more catch.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So I don't know if it's, if it's nutrition, I don't know what it is but he can.
- 22:26Speaker 1: He's a, he's got some more chinks in his armor, if you will than say like Patrick, who just appears absolutely unbeatable.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Like Patrick has no holes in his game, zero.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It's just insane and I think in order to win a race like this, you have to have zero holes in your game.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Not even I think I know that's just the way this works.
- 22:43Speaker 1: This is the pointy end of the spear.
- 22:48Speaker 1: All right, at seventh place, I'm going to go with Mickey Bowden, rosie L from team Brooks, um, really fun watching him and Christian Duke get out of broken arrow.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I think it might be similar.
- 22:56Speaker 1: We're going to see what happens.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I know Mickey's super fit Um, the kid's super talented Um.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I just like I said, I think he's a good lock for your top 10, easily, um, for your free trial fantasy.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And eighth place, I'm going to go with Adidas Terax athlete Danny Osans.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Now I'm going to preface this Really.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Seventh through 10th is super interchangeable.
- 23:16Speaker 1: This is like who comes down to who wants it more.
- 23:19Speaker 1: At the end of the day, who's going to be ready to kill one another to get ahead?
- 23:23Speaker 1: That's basically the way this works and this is just super speculation.
- 23:27Speaker 1: This is no shade at anybody.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It's just kind of the way I'm when I look through the start list and kind of see like who's out there?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Like it's kind of the way I put this together.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Um, in ninth place, I'm going to go with Francisco pup poopy.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Uh, got to get that name correctly, poopy.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Um of team Nike, a staple of our, of our running community.
- 23:45Speaker 1: And in 10th I'm going to go with two people.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Uh, just because I like them both a lot.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Uh, both friends of the podcast.
- 23:51Speaker 1: One's a teammate of mine, one is a friend of the podcast.
- 23:53Speaker 1: It's been on the podcast.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Um, I think they're eerily similar, similar athletes, especially from an uphill perspective.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Um, I'm going to go somewhere between Noah Williams or Keira Ney, I really don't know.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I'm just going to throw that out there, I think.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I think we're going to see more Americans in the top 10 than we've seen in previous iterations of this race or previous years.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And I think, just because we've we're seeing an involved, our sport is evolving, right.
- 24:16Speaker 1: People are figuring out that okay, I need to go over a little earlier.
- 24:20Speaker 1: People are figuring out different things they need to do for this race.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Nutrition.
- 24:23Speaker 1: I mean, look at what just happened at like Western States.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Do you see all these people that just ran under 15 hours?
- 24:28Speaker 1: It's because nutrition is getting insane.
- 24:30Speaker 1: People are figuring this stuff out.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So the way I kind of view it is that, especially in the American contingent, you're going to see the Americans really start to compete in the sub-ultraside against a lot of the Europeans who have seemed to have had things figured out.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I know Kieran.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I know Kieran's training.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I've got some insight on that, especially when I had his coach on the podcast and when I've had him on the podcast Um, I know this is a race of his.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I know he wants this really bad.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Um, a lot of times it's it's not just the talent, it's how bad you want this.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Uh, and if you get the perfect combination of those things and people having a really good day, you can land yourself in the top 10 of one of these races, especially because Kieran has the talent to do it.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So, and I feel the same way about Noah I think Noah absolutely phenomenal athlete, la Sportiva teammate of mine has been training has had some great results so far, had a podium finish at Kendall against the likes of Seth Damore and Cam Smith two of the best in the world, arguably.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I think these guys can get it done.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Noah also lives at 10,000 feet, kieran lives and trains at 9,000 and change in Gunnison Um, you know eerily similar athletes, both like nine feet tall.
- 25:39Speaker 1: They're all so tall.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Um, now, I'm pretty short, so that's why I say that.
- 25:43Speaker 1: But anyway, long story short, um, that's my top 10 on both the men's and women's side.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I think that you know.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I really want to wish everybody the best of luck.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I think series and all is going to be just a super fun race, um, and I can't wait to see how it plays out.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I hope these guys have some of the best races their lives.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I think it's going to be really fun to follow along.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Um, like I said, saturday, um, this race takes place.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Um, did I write it down?
- 26:17Speaker 1: No, I didn't write it down.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So Saturday, uh, keep on the lookout and look for results.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Uh, again, this is the fifth stop in the golden trail world series.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I think the next one is the Tantra sky race in Poland.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Um, yeah, pretty cool.
- 26:21Speaker 1: All right, guys, I hope I gave you guys some value, um, for your free trail fantasy picks and a little bit of insight there.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Um, good luck with those picks and, uh, have a great week.
- 26:31Speaker 1: We've got a couple of cool podcasts coming out this week.
- 26:33Speaker 1: First one's going to be none other than Mr Mark Tatum um, a absolute legend in the Colorado Springs area.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Um, and we're also going to have a special podcast from Mercedes Sigel Gaither.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Uh, it's going to be coming out Friday as well.
- 26:48Speaker 1: So Mark Tatum will come out tomorrow, wednesday August 7th.
- 26:53Speaker 1: This will drop Thursday August 8th, and then on Friday, august 9th, we'll have Mercedes Siegel Gaither.
- 27:00Speaker 1: So, backed up, backed up, backed up.
- 27:03Speaker 1: So pretty sweet, yeah, without further ado, I hope you guys have a great week.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Steep Stuff Podcast.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I'm your host, james Lorello.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Thank you.
