Transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:10Every Monday through Thursday. I'm your host Lauren Meisner at
- 0:14the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:18Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone.
- 0:20Happy Monday. We are about to get another
- 0:22storm. I swear I brought like Sydney's
- 0:26winter weather with me to Canada.
- 0:29The weather has been so crap since I got here and it's crap
- 0:33again today. So hopefully the lighting's OK
- 0:35if you guys are watching on YouTube, but if not, maybe just
- 0:38listen. All right, so let's just get
- 0:39into the stories. I have three stories for you
- 0:41guys. The 1st is just a quick little
- 0:43one, a fun little one because Emma Chamberlain has been named
- 0:47Co CEO of her brand Chamberlain Coffee.
- 0:51So after five years of being Co founder and Chief creative
- 0:55officer, Emma is stepping in to role as CEO of her coffee brand
- 1:00Chamberlain Coffee. OK, so Emma will be Co CEO with
- 1:04a man named Gustav Hasi and they together will be replacing
- 1:09Chamberlain Coffee's previous or I guess like current but soon to
- 1:13be previous CEO Christopher Gallant, who was in the role
- 1:16since 2021 quote when the company was founded.
- 1:20I was aware that I had a lot to learn before I could step into
- 1:22the position I am in today, she said.
- 1:25The knowledge and experience I have gained over the last few
- 1:28years has made me confident in my ability to truly step up and
- 1:32Co run this company in a way that I was not ready for prior,
- 1:35which makes sense. I think that can be one of the
- 1:38biggest downfalls of creatives going in, like launching their
- 1:43own business, whether it's, I don't know, like a makeup line,
- 1:46like a, you know, beauty YouTube doing a makeup line or like Jen
- 1:49Atkin doing way hair care. Like when you get someone who is
- 1:53like a business professional to run the company, like that's
- 1:56always going to be at least at the start, kind of like, in my
- 1:59opinion, the best place to go, like the best route to go at the
- 2:03beginning. So with this like Co CEO thing,
- 2:06she will continue to lead marketing efforts while Hassie
- 2:09will take on more like traditional CEO
- 2:12responsibilities. So Emma literally went from like
- 2:15YouTube fashion girly podcaster, host, now business professional.
- 2:24Love this for her. OK, the next story that I have
- 2:27is I need to talk about how Loncombe's latest influencer
- 2:32campaign is making waves all over TikTok for its really meta
- 2:36approach. And I promise this segment, this
- 2:39story is not part of that. I wish it was.
- 2:43It is not. This is just me dissecting it.
- 2:45OK, so Loncombe recently partnered with Paige Desorbo and
- 2:50Hannah Berner of Summer House slash Giggly Squad fame.
- 2:54You know, I'm a Bravo girly, so I love this.
- 2:56I love the Bravo girlies making it mainstream.
- 2:59So to launch their new Hypnose drama mascara, they utilized so
- 3:05many different types of media and different creators, and
- 3:07Paige and Hannah were kind of like central to it.
- 3:09And it seems like the theme of the campaign was drama because
- 3:13drama is in the name of the mascara.
- 3:15And, like, the entire campaign almost like fed on Tik Tok's
- 3:20penchant for Internet drama and, like, creator tea and like, all
- 3:26of that kind of stuff. And it's so cool.
- 3:29It's so relevant. But they did it in a really
- 3:32tasteful way. OK, so here we go.
- 3:34Paige and Hannah, they were starring in this Lancome
- 3:37campaign and it was shot at Ulta and it involved them kind of
- 3:41getting like quote UN quote caught gossiping by TikTok
- 3:44beauty reviewers, the lipstick lesbians.
- 3:46Then the Lancome team quote UN quote leaked a behind the scenes
- 3:50clip of them from far away like gossiping and it looks exactly
- 3:55like those videos that you would see on TikTok of celebrities
- 3:58from far away where people are like, Oh my God, what are they
- 4:00talking about? And then popular lip reading
- 4:03account tis me Jackie G posted it like again, this is all part
- 4:07of the sponsorship like she was paid as well for this posted it
- 4:10as if it was one of her organic lip reading videos where she was
- 4:13like Paige and Hannah have been spotted gossiping.
- 4:16It seems like they were gossiping during this Lancome
- 4:18shoot. Let me see what they say.
- 4:20And then she, like, dissects what they were saying, Hannah.
- 4:22Berner and Paige Dasorbo were seen in the Lancome aisle at
- 4:25Ulta in what appears to be a little gossip sash while the
- 4:28Lancome partnership was being filmed.
- 4:30Here's what I'm seeing, dude. Like, I'm shaking.
- 4:32I'm. I'm speechless and I'm never
- 4:35speechless. You could have told me sooner.
- 4:39Are you shading me? Oh, that was really bratty.
- 4:43To kind of like add a more traditional media element to IT.
- 4:46People magazine published an interview then with Hannah and
- 4:50Paige about this Lancome partnership.
- 4:53And that particular article wasn't labeled as sponsored.
- 4:56I presume it was. I'm not really sure it wasn't,
- 4:59though. And then to kind of like cap it
- 5:01all off, Girlboss Town, who is the popular PR analysis account,
- 5:06she screenshotted the People magazine article and she made a
- 5:10sponsored post about the whole campaign.
- 5:13She was like, Oh my God, this was so meta.
- 5:15This was all part of a plan and was like dissecting the PR and
- 5:18marketing strategy behind it. Lancome.
- 5:20Utilizing a lip reading video to roll out their new products is
- 5:25the definition of GBT coded. So to roll out their new Hypnose
- 5:28drama mascara and lip idol, the brilliant team at Lancome
- 5:32utilizing a lip reading gossip video that they leaked to the
- 5:35Internet that they knew the Internet would study And not
- 5:39just study anything, but study the drama of their mascara and
- 5:42their lips to try to figure out what they're saying.
- 5:45To launch their new products is the definition of tapping into
- 5:48trends in the right way, which is something I scream at brands
- 5:51to do all the time. That made it even more meta.
- 5:54People were in the comments like, this is like an episode of
- 5:57Black Mirror, but it worked. It was so cool.
- 6:00Everyone's talking about it and I just think it was cool to see
- 6:03kind of like a more legacy brand take a really creative Internet
- 6:09focus like Gen. Z youth focused approach and
- 6:14create this like web of marketing based on the
- 6:18zeitgeist. Like they just hit the nail on
- 6:20the head. OK.
- 6:22And the last story that I have for you guys is I need to break
- 6:26down for you guys everything that's going on between a Sedona
- 6:30and Live on TikTok. The Who the fuck did I take to
- 6:34Mexico series. OK, so if none of those words
- 6:39make sense to you, just keep listening.
- 6:42So tik Toker Liv Sibili released a multi part series over the
- 6:46weekend called Who the Fuck Did I Take to Mexico, which is
- 6:50obviously like, you know, a play on who the fuck did I marry, Who
- 6:53the fuck did I date? Those very popular series right
- 6:56now. In this series she talks about
- 6:57how she took a trip to Mexico with her girlfriend at the time,
- 7:00who is American basketball star Sedona Prince.
- 7:03Sedona and Liv were really popular on lesbian TikTok and
- 7:07Sedona actually made a name for herself.
- 7:09Before she was dating Liv, Sedona was dating influencer
- 7:11Riley back in 2022 and there was a lot of drama.
- 7:15When they split, Sedona reportedly cheated on Riley.
- 7:18She admitted to cheating eventually, and then she was
- 7:21allegedly planning to sue Riley for defamation after the
- 7:25Internet turned on her. However, there has been no
- 7:28update on this lawsuit, so I'm not sure if that was just rumors
- 7:31or what's going on with that. But anyways, she doesn't have a
- 7:34great reputation to begin with on this side of the Internet,
- 7:37and now it is even worse. So Sedona and Liv were dating,
- 7:40obviously, and then a few days ago Liv released this giant
- 7:44series where she claims that Sedona mistreated her on this
- 7:47trip to Mexico that Liv allegedly paid for.
- 7:50Liv started off by explaining how Sedona has a bad temper in
- 7:52the mornings, and this is paraphrasing, but she said
- 7:56things were kind of off to a bad start because Liv accidentally
- 8:00spilled beer on Sedona's leg, like on her jeans or something
- 8:03pants when they were like on the plane on the way there and
- 8:06Sedona punished her by sitting on the other side of the aisle
- 8:10of the flight. So like that's how the trip
- 8:11started off. There was a lot to this series,
- 8:14but the main story that everyone is really freaked out by is that
- 8:17Sedona insisted while they were in Mexico that they run these
- 8:21ATVs to ride in the middle of the night.
- 8:23They were going to go through the jungle.
- 8:25She said that they should leave their phones at home so it can
- 8:28just be them too. Like, I don't know, more like
- 8:31romantic bonding vibes. Middle of the night, pitch
- 8:33black. So Liv explains how they're like
- 8:36going through, they're on these ATVs.
- 8:38It's really dark. She's kind of getting scared.
- 8:41So she suggests that they come back in the morning.
- 8:43She's not answering me, she's just going and going faster.
- 8:46We're now past the arch and it's pitch black and it's the
- 8:51scariest thing I've ever experienced and I'm begging her,
- 8:54screaming please stop the ATV, please stop the ATV.
- 8:59And she stops it as hard as she can, shoves me to the ground,
- 9:06looks me dead in my eyes and then takes off and leaves me in
- 9:11the pitch fucking black. So what do I do?
- 9:14I get up and I start running for my fucking life because I don't
- 9:19know what else. I didn't know what else to do in
- 9:21that situation. I'm literally telling myself
- 9:23you're going to make it live. You're going to make it.
- 9:24All I can hear are the sounds of my footsteps on the fucking
- 9:27ground because you can't hear anything else.
- 9:29It's pitch black jungle. I see her headlights coming
- 9:33back, I see the headlights coming back and as soon as she
- 9:37gets to me she flips it on its side and what do I do?
- 9:40I fucking still run out of run over to her and I'm like baby
- 9:43baby are you OK trying to make sure that she's OK?
- 9:45She shoves me, tells me to get the fuck off of her, that it's
- 9:49my fault we're in this situation, that I held her back.
- 9:52They ended up getting rescued by like a van of local guys and I
- 9:57guess they were like towing their ATV and Sedona was just
- 10:01saying to live the whole time while they were like on the back
- 10:03of the ATV. Like I'm breaking up with you.
- 10:05This is all your fault. And so Liv booked a ticket home
- 10:08early because like Sedona was like, we're done.
- 10:11So this series, like I said, has blown up.
- 10:14It's led to a lot of allegations that Sedona is abusive and
- 10:18Internet users are now flooding Sedona's basketball team with
- 10:22requests to drop her. And according to Distractify
- 10:25quote, Sedona has responded to the videos by issuing a cease
- 10:29and desist to live and announced on Instagram Stories on August
- 10:3215th, 2024 that her legal team will handle the matter moving
- 10:36forward. That is a very high level
- 10:38version of what's happening. It's like my entire for you page
- 10:41right now. But I am heavily on like lesbian
- 10:44TikTok because I listen to so much lesbian pop because it's my
- 10:47favorite genre. So I don't know if that's just
- 10:49me, but I feel like this is kind of blowing up.
- 10:52Anyways, guys, that is it for mini scroll today.
- 10:55Thank you so much for listening. Please remember to re review and
- 10:58subscribe. It helps me so much.
- 11:00It helps me grow. I love you guys and I will talk
- 11:02to you tomorrow. Bye.
