- 1:10Speaker 3: I tell people all the time. Man, we go back
- 1:12Speaker 3: to college when we was battling on Rainbow six on
- 1:16Speaker 3: the PlayStation two back in the day. Man, take me back, man,
- 1:21Speaker 3: we used to be man, good time good tide. Man,
- 1:24Speaker 3: it seemed like it seemed like forever ago. But man,
- 1:27Speaker 3: none the less man. Glad to be here, Glad to
- 1:29Speaker 3: be here. Yeah, so let's commence with the show. Let's
- 1:32Speaker 3: commence with the show. Man. It's been a few weeks
- 1:35Speaker 3: since we've been kind of going back and forth on
- 1:38Speaker 3: our opinions about our great defenses. And let's get that understood. First, Man,
- 1:43Speaker 3: we both played for two of the greatest defenses ever. Right,
- 1:47Speaker 3: that's an honor and a privilege. And I know you
- 1:52Speaker 3: feel how I feel about my defense and my secondary,
- 1:56Speaker 3: and you feel how you feel about your defense and
- 1:58Speaker 3: your secondary. But nonetheless, man, a handful of amazing players
- 2:02Speaker 3: on both ends. But we must figure out who's number
- 2:08Speaker 3: one in.
- 2:09Speaker 1: The debate, right, we gotta we gotta figure that out.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be a fun debate. I can't wait
- 2:15Speaker 1: to sift through it line by line and figure it out.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Because leave leap leaving, uh and Skip just wanted to
- 2:23Speaker 1: start some stuff. That's what it was. Leave and Skip
- 2:25Speaker 1: just wanted to start some No, and I said, and
- 2:28Speaker 1: I love leave to death. Lee was with us on
- 2:31Speaker 1: Amazon at first, and then things you know, didn't didn't
- 2:33Speaker 1: situate like like they should have and didn't work out.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But he's doing a great job with Skip. But I
- 2:39Speaker 1: was like when he when he said it, I was like,
- 2:41Speaker 1: I mean, I want to be with you, Lee, but
- 2:44Speaker 1: everybody gonna say I said I told somebody else this.
- 2:47Speaker 2: They were like, man, he said he was better than you.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He said, I said, you ain't gonna find a corner
- 2:51Speaker 1: in this world that don't say they the best. Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 1: and and rightfully so like Leeve was nice too, and
- 2:57Speaker 1: people don't give Leave enough credit. Lee was like that,
- 3:00Speaker 1: like that you're talking about ten pick sixes, Leave strapping.
- 3:04Speaker 1: He talking crazy. If it wasn't for the off the
- 3:06Speaker 1: field stuff, they would talk about Leave so much differently.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And that's what I tell people all the time. Lee
- 3:10Speaker 1: played at a high level. But then he said the
- 3:14Speaker 1: whole the Hey, the secondary was better and he would
- 3:17Speaker 1: have been the best on both secondaries.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And I was like, leave now now alone.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Now we had some guys over there, now leave, Yeah
- 3:28Speaker 1: we could play.
- 3:29Speaker 2: What episode was that was that?
- 3:31Speaker 3: I was wondering because people was like asked me, like, like,
- 3:35Speaker 3: where did this come from? I'm like maybe it was
- 3:37Speaker 3: something on the grid on or when we did the
- 3:39Speaker 3: top of on me and Leave had did like a
- 3:41Speaker 3: TikTok cut or something we had named the top defenses,
- 3:45Speaker 3: right I had you guys?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Was that it no, no, no, this was Leave and
- 3:52Speaker 1: Skip and it was on it was on their show,
- 3:56Speaker 1: their their show, and you know, Skip Skip trying to
- 4:00Speaker 1: start stuff. Skip's like, you know, I thought I thought
- 4:03Speaker 1: you were better than sir. I just thought you were better,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know, like, and it's fine. But then Lee started
- 4:09Speaker 1: to speak about the two secondaries and said, you know,
- 4:12Speaker 1: speaking about himself, and and you know how you know,
- 4:16Speaker 1: if he had to be if he had to say anything,
- 4:18Speaker 1: he taking him all day, either secondary, either anybody in
- 4:22Speaker 1: either secondary. I'm taking me. I'm the best player and
- 4:25Speaker 1: on either secondary. And I was like, okay, leave, like
- 4:28Speaker 1: we'll we'll go. And then he was like, no, flies
- 4:30Speaker 1: on and what y'all did, and how people would prefer
- 4:32Speaker 1: to watch y'all and if if if he had to
- 4:35Speaker 1: pick which secondary was better, he would say, y'all secondary
- 4:38Speaker 1: was better.
- 4:38Speaker 2: And I was like, okay, leave, Now I gotta say something.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I gotta say, yeah, yeah, I gotta saying.
- 4:44Speaker 3: He said, like our defense was sexier, right, and I'm sexier.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Would be the word I would use I would just
- 4:51Speaker 2: be more. We were more.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I would say, just more in your face style, right.
- 4:58Speaker 3: We we had to play man. We was pressing all
- 5:00Speaker 3: the time. We blitched a lot are We had two
- 5:05Speaker 3: of the best pass rushers ever to play the game,
- 5:07Speaker 3: the Marcus where And and Von Miller. And you know,
- 5:11Speaker 3: pass rush and secondary goes hand in hand. You know,
- 5:15Speaker 3: whoever gets the creditors, whoever get the credits, We locked
- 5:18Speaker 3: it down on the back end. They get the sacks,
- 5:20Speaker 3: they get the quarterback first, we get the pbu's the
- 5:23Speaker 3: interceptions or the just the sacks, right So, and the
- 5:29Speaker 3: sacks is one thing that I'm going leanto, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 3: not only just the d ns in the in the
- 5:34Speaker 3: in the pressure, but you know it's a secondary status
- 5:38Speaker 3: well because you know, we gotta do what we gotta
- 5:40Speaker 3: do on the back end and a lot occasions to
- 5:43Speaker 3: make those sacks happen.
- 5:44Speaker 2: So and you know, I like to prior myself in
- 5:47Speaker 2: being such a great blitter.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And I mean I had two sacks that season, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 3: a few pressures, but you know I was always had
- 5:55Speaker 3: to be accounted for in the pass rush, right so
- 6:00Speaker 3: you know, I think we had fifty two sacks that year,
- 6:05Speaker 3: fifty two sacks that year. Just going over the quick basis, right,
- 6:08Speaker 3: you guys had, you know, points per game. You got
- 6:10Speaker 3: us fourteen point four our eighteen point five total yards.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Y'all had us two seventy three to two eighty three
- 6:18Speaker 3: our twenty seven takeaways to y'all thirty nine our fourteen
- 6:21Speaker 3: picks to your twenty eight picks. Right, Hey, when you
- 6:25Speaker 3: look at that, y'all got it right. But the only
- 6:29Speaker 3: thing that I would eject in those stats, and I say,
- 6:36Speaker 3: you know how many times we had to.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Go on the field because of our giveaways? Right.
- 6:42Speaker 3: You don't like to say what the offense, You know,
- 6:45Speaker 3: how the offense attributes to great defense. But I have
- 6:49Speaker 3: to say that that matters, Sam, and I have to
- 6:52Speaker 3: say that matters just because.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It is what it is.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Right, It's a fact like when you hit the field
- 6:58Speaker 3: more when you have to play a certain style of
- 7:01Speaker 3: defense to not only push opposing offenses out of scoring range,
- 7:11Speaker 3: but you play a style that we have to get
- 7:15Speaker 3: what we have to get right now, Like we don't
- 7:17Speaker 3: have the time to or the luxury to trap offenses. Right,
- 7:27Speaker 3: you guys had a lot of turnovers, not that we
- 7:31Speaker 3: can't deny that.
- 7:32Speaker 2: We can't deny that, but.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I feel that you guys had the luxury provided by
- 7:37Speaker 3: your offense not turning the ball over.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And I'm not trying to down.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Our offense like that because you know, I always say
- 7:44Speaker 3: this in every interview, when we needed something from our offense,
- 7:48Speaker 3: whether it was a last drive, whether it was a
- 7:50Speaker 3: touchdown or first down, they came through in critical moments.
- 7:54Speaker 3: So they did what they had to do in those instances.
- 7:58Speaker 3: But like thirty one, I think it was thirty one
- 8:01Speaker 3: turnovers to Seattle twenty thirteen.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Seattle Seahawks was nineteen.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Which was the fourth fewest, and ours were the fourth
- 8:11Speaker 3: the fourth highest.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But that's see, that's where I'm gonna go. I'll accept
- 8:17Speaker 1: what you're arguing, but I will I will raise you.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Did you have you ever heard of a two thousand
- 8:23Speaker 1: Baltimore Ravens. I have you know who played quarterback for
- 8:27Speaker 1: them for that season? I do, and I'm glad you
- 8:30Speaker 1: brought that up.
- 8:30Speaker 2: But finish it.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Yeah it was Trent Dilferd believe right, and Trent deal
- 8:35Speaker 3: for for half the year and Tony Banks for Tony
- 8:38Speaker 3: Banks for half the season.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yeah, correct, Yeah, it wasn't not scoring a lot of
- 8:44Speaker 1: not scoring a lot of talents.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But what they did do they protected the football. Yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 2: they were.
- 8:52Speaker 1: They had the nineteen interceptions between they had how many interceptions?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Nineteen nineteen picks, but they didn't have I think they
- 8:59Speaker 1: only had four fumbles. They were like the number one
- 9:03Speaker 1: in the league in protecting the football, running the.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Ball right, maybe maybe running the football, but they had nineteen.
- 9:11Speaker 3: And so let's let's put them at twenty two turnovers.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Mhm. I mean that's not thirty one. This is a
- 9:20Speaker 2: whole this is a whole different league.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But what I yeah, I'm saying is in this, in
- 9:24Speaker 1: this situation, we're we're saying, y'all, y'all, they they had
- 9:28Speaker 1: we had nineteen, y'all had thirty one. We also added
- 9:31Speaker 1: twelve takeaways, so we gave them twelve more possessions. We
- 9:35Speaker 1: gave them twelve more possessions. And I would and I would,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I would argue because I want to. I'm gonna clear
- 9:40Speaker 1: this missnover up because I get tired of people saying,
- 9:42Speaker 1: y'all just setting zone all day like that boy on
- 9:46Speaker 1: third down. We and man, just like everybody else, everybody
- 9:49Speaker 1: in the National Football league, third and five, three to
- 9:54Speaker 1: maybe seven eight, just about everybody playing man. After that,
- 9:58Speaker 1: it might go zone. You might go a little, you know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: third and ten plus, you might go loose. Two, you
- 10:03Speaker 1: might go three. You might go a lot of stuff.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But third and five we and.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Man of man.
- 10:09Speaker 1: We and man of man, and we played man just
- 10:12Speaker 1: and we played press. And anytime you didn't have a
- 10:14Speaker 1: number two to receive it, your side and you that corner,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you and man, you and man, you got him. If
- 10:18Speaker 1: he go up top, that's you. If he won a dig,
- 10:20Speaker 1: that's you. If he won us slant, that's you. If
- 10:23Speaker 1: he catch that rock, that's on you. But so I
- 10:26Speaker 1: want to I want to give that. And we were
- 10:27Speaker 1: as in your face talk shit as anybody in the league.
- 10:30Speaker 1: We taking the ball, talking crazy, talking record. I mean
- 10:33Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl he was talking reckless to Peyton
- 10:35Speaker 1: and all in boys because we didn't like we didn't
- 10:37Speaker 1: like how they how they was talking. Uh in the
- 10:40Speaker 1: media that week. I mean you talk about the ship
- 10:43Speaker 1: up said at the Crabtree in the NFC Championship it
- 10:45Speaker 1: was and we was talking, yeah, we was talking cash yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and we running and hitting. We went in hitting, y'all
- 10:52Speaker 1: was running and hitting. Two you and Darien y'all was
- 10:55Speaker 1: back there smacking. Yeah, everybody know what Cam didn't done.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It's legendary.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Earl was out there hitting, and then we can we
- 11:01Speaker 1: can go through the front. I wanted, I wanted to
- 11:03Speaker 1: keep it in the secondary for a second, but y'all,
- 11:05Speaker 1: y'all had the two Hall of famers up front.
- 11:08Speaker 2: We had.
- 11:08Speaker 1: We had Chris Clemens was was a great rusher. Our
- 11:12Speaker 1: starters were at end where Red Bryant and Chris Clemens.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Then me bang some dogs April Red and me bang
- 11:21Speaker 1: some dogs. Big dogs. Yeah, big dogs, big dogs. Mike
- 11:27Speaker 1: b and Cliff the year we won the Super Bowl
- 11:30Speaker 1: were rotate and that was the first year they got there.
- 11:32Speaker 1: They weren't even starters yet. They didn't start till the
- 11:34Speaker 1: next year. And that's what Bob people don't understand. That's
- 11:36Speaker 1: how deep the d line was. Them two dudes was
- 11:39Speaker 1: probably our best rushers, I mean, our best rushers.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and they didn't even start. Yeah, I mean.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Shit, we had you know, Shaq Beard coming off and
- 11:48Speaker 3: in first round pick Shane Ray, Shane Ray was coming off,
- 11:52Speaker 3: and then you know, inside, I think it was probably
- 11:54Speaker 3: our most underrated part was Dereck Wolf and Leik Jackson
- 11:59Speaker 3: and Slim that's the Selvester Williams two inside, then them
- 12:03Speaker 3: three on a rotation.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Especially in past Russ situations.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I felt were, you know, three of the best interior
- 12:10Speaker 3: pass rushers in the game at that point, right.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I agree.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But see that's why I get. I get I kept
- 12:20Speaker 1: it with the secondary for him because I was like,
- 12:23Speaker 1: if we talked Secretary Lee, this is this is not
- 12:25Speaker 1: going to be the discussion you think it is, because
- 12:27Speaker 1: I feel like we we took the ball away at
- 12:29Speaker 1: a high level.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Even Byron.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Maxwell had four interceptions, Earl had five. H I believe
- 12:35Speaker 1: Cam had three, yeah, and then I had eight.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Cam had yeah, Cam had three, Max
- 12:42Speaker 3: had four, Earl had five. But you gotta that's to
- 12:45Speaker 3: the that's to the cover three man. You guys always
- 12:47Speaker 3: had eyes on the ball.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And but but what what I'm saying is I had
- 12:52Speaker 1: I had four of them in man. So that's what
- 12:55Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like, it's I could I could, I could
- 12:57Speaker 1: listen to the cover three thing, but I could say
- 13:00Speaker 1: we played a lot of man too when we needed to.
- 13:02Speaker 2: We need to really strap down.
- 13:04Speaker 1: We strapped, especially when we're playing San Francisco because theydn'td
- 13:06Speaker 1: have no receivers like that. We're like, hey, press, everybody, press, we.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Man, they ain't had no receivers, then they ain't had
- 13:12Speaker 3: no quarterback all due respect, I mean, Colin cap you
- 13:16Speaker 3: should have seen.
- 13:16Speaker 2: What we did to that boy the year right four.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You know who did have a quarterback, The Broncos. They
- 13:22Speaker 2: had a quarterback who set the record for touchdown passes
- 13:25Speaker 2: with fifty five yeah, and fifty five hundred or three
- 13:28Speaker 2: hundred yards, and we strapped them up too, strapped them up.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I think that shit.
- 13:32Speaker 3: I think honestly, I think that game got out of
- 13:34Speaker 3: hand early.
- 13:35Speaker 2: You know, they snapped the.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Ball over for the safety and your offense was scoring
- 13:40Speaker 3: at will on them boys, they wasn't.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Our offense scored like two touchdowns, Like our offense didn't
- 13:45Speaker 1: score until like the second quarter.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Like y'all had the Malcolm Malcolm my dog mouth shout out,
- 13:51Speaker 3: Mount had his interception.
- 13:53Speaker 1: What was that the third quarter for the touchdown. Yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: it didn't get out of hand till the second half.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Like it was a close game unt until the second half.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think it was eight to nothing until middle of
- 14:03Speaker 1: the second or middle of the and I think that
- 14:05Speaker 1: might have been our first touchdown from our offense.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And it was fifteen.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Like they didn't get out of hand until
- 14:10Speaker 1: late we start punishing it, punishing them. But a lot
- 14:13Speaker 1: of that game happened because we watched the tape of
- 14:16Speaker 1: them boys.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And I love.
- 14:20Speaker 1: The Marius and what he did and Decker and Welker
- 14:24Speaker 1: and all the boys. But when we watched him on tape,
- 14:28Speaker 1: people was just getting tired. Like that was the big
- 14:32Speaker 1: thing from that game. Like we were watching them and
- 14:34Speaker 1: watching him beat beat the heck out of everybody, and
- 14:36Speaker 1: everybody was just getting tired. They was running simple stuff.
- 14:38Speaker 1: They was running like day one, day two install of
- 14:40Speaker 1: training camp. Like it wasn't like they was running some
- 14:42Speaker 1: complicated They running drive, basic, slat flat, curl flat, like
- 14:47Speaker 1: simple stuff TJ.
- 14:48Speaker 2: But everybody was.
- 14:49Speaker 1: They was getting to the line quick, people trying to adjust,
- 14:52Speaker 1: people trying to check people ain't lined up, and they
- 14:54Speaker 1: just efficient.
- 14:56Speaker 3: It was a speed offense, but that that running game.
- 15:00Speaker 2: The thing I say.
- 15:01Speaker 3: They scored a lot of points, like you said, because
- 15:03Speaker 3: you know they were they were on the ball, very
- 15:05Speaker 3: high tempo offense, like a Chip Kelly offense almost in
- 15:08Speaker 3: the League, right, they could not run the ball, so
- 15:13Speaker 3: expecting anything but past. You know, I think who was
- 15:19Speaker 3: the running back they had that year. It wasn't no Sean.
- 15:24Speaker 3: It was ball, money ball. It was money ball. It
- 15:28Speaker 3: might have been a combos, a couple of people. But yeah, yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 3: but yeah. But also we're gonna flip it and go
- 15:37Speaker 3: to the Broncos defenses that year, right once they got
- 15:41Speaker 3: all them injuries out the way.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Von Miller didn't play in that game. Chris Harrison didn't
- 15:46Speaker 2: play in that game.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Derek Wolf didn't play in that game. Uh, who else
- 15:53Speaker 3: didn't playing that game? Kevin Vickerson didn't play in that game?
- 16:01Speaker 3: Raheem more than playing that game. Would you not say
- 16:04Speaker 3: that your offense really controlled the ball that game and
- 16:07Speaker 3: really went up up and down the field with no
- 16:09Speaker 3: turnovers against that Broncos.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I would not. I would tell you to watch the game.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I would tell you they had a couple three and
- 16:16Speaker 1: outs early in that game. They were not doing well.
- 16:18Speaker 1: They were not moving the balls particularly well. We got
- 16:21Speaker 1: held to three points multiple drives early on, like they
- 16:24Speaker 1: were getting held to three point three point like it
- 16:26Speaker 1: was eight to ozer because they we had two field
- 16:28Speaker 1: goals in a safety like, but I would say our offense,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I mean rush through for two touchdowns, I think two
- 16:36Speaker 1: hundred yards. Like, it wasn't a crazy, crazy game for
- 16:39Speaker 1: him by any stretch of imagination. You know what it
- 16:41Speaker 1: was Percy. Percy had a return touchdown, Yeah, that was
- 16:44Speaker 1: We had a defensive touchdown. We had a two point conversion.
- 16:48Speaker 1: So that's that's that's sixteen, So sixteen of the forty three,
- 16:53Speaker 1: So that's you know what I mean. Like then the
- 16:56Speaker 1: rest of the offense, I think Marshawn might have had
- 16:58Speaker 1: two tugs. Like, But what I'm saying is in this,
- 17:03Speaker 1: in this general in this defensive discussion, if we're talking
- 17:05Speaker 1: about who played the game like we played it, we
- 17:09Speaker 1: played within the circumstances you given. You you you given
- 17:12Speaker 1: the circumstances you're given, and you played within them and
- 17:15Speaker 1: the circumstances we were given. We played Drew Brees before
- 17:18Speaker 1: we played CAP. We played Drew Brees and guess what,
- 17:21Speaker 1: he had thirty nine touchdowns, five thousand yards to twelve
- 17:24Speaker 1: interceptions that season. When we played Drew in the division,
- 17:27Speaker 1: we told him up. We told him up, like Drew,
- 17:30Speaker 1: you got to go. And that's what we did to
- 17:33Speaker 1: just about everybody who stepped in front of us. So
- 17:35Speaker 1: it's we're not gonna sit here and be like, man, y'all,
- 17:37Speaker 1: who did y'all play like?
- 17:39Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, we just got a jacket.
- 17:41Speaker 3: We had, We had can boys to they They was
- 17:45Speaker 3: pretty prolific that year in offense. Number one in offense
- 17:48Speaker 3: and I think number two in Russian offense something like that.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And now you've seen the game. He couldn't do nothing
- 17:56Speaker 2: at all, right, but he's still throw for two forty
- 17:58Speaker 2: and that was garbage time.
- 18:00Speaker 3: The game was over, you know, the game was over
- 18:03Speaker 3: by the end. He really we really would have shut
- 18:05Speaker 3: him out. I mean, they scored a touch I can't
- 18:07Speaker 3: say that. If you get the ball in your territory
- 18:10Speaker 3: and you don't hold the offense to three points, then
- 18:14Speaker 3: you fail. That's off feel, right, even if even if
- 18:17Speaker 3: they get the ball in your territory, your job is
- 18:19Speaker 3: a whole them and field go range. And we let
- 18:22Speaker 3: Stuke get a touchdown. So I'm not gonna say we
- 18:24Speaker 3: wouldn't shut him out or nothing. But you know, the
- 18:27Speaker 3: ten the ten points that they did have, you know,
- 18:30Speaker 3: one was from that touchdown for Stu and one was
- 18:34Speaker 3: later in the game.
- 18:35Speaker 2: But nonetheless.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Go ahead, you know, Cam Newton MVP, and they defense
- 18:42Speaker 3: went out there and made us turn the ball over
- 18:44Speaker 3: another two times, right that defense. Luke Keigley going in
- 18:48Speaker 3: the hall this year. I just seen Luke at the combine.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Funny story going in the elevator after that later, but he.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Just walked in the elevator.
- 18:57Speaker 3: You press the button, look up Louke Keigley. It's the
- 18:59Speaker 3: second time I ran into him on some crazy ship
- 19:02Speaker 3: like that. But anyway, defense was stacked two interceptions on
- 19:05Speaker 3: the side.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I think overall we played a better team than y'all.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but nobody would say that, Like if you say,
- 19:14Speaker 1: if your argument is the the.
- 19:18Speaker 2: With with with Brown and whoever.
- 19:21Speaker 1: They had a receiver that year for Carolina, Like nobody
- 19:25Speaker 1: can start in the league. You could take Greg Olsen,
- 19:30Speaker 1: but nobody who would start in the league for any
- 19:32Speaker 1: other team.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Carolina again was smoking that year. I'm not saying he
- 19:37Speaker 3: had number one. He's not a certified number one. They
- 19:42Speaker 3: had Hollywood Brown, I forget.
- 19:45Speaker 2: It, but they had a good three man.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Greg Olsen debataball Hall of Famery was strapped all games,
- 19:52Speaker 3: strapped him up like some l A gears.
- 19:55Speaker 2: But uh, the running game I think was that that
- 20:00Speaker 2: three headed j Stell.
- 20:06Speaker 3: The other fullback, and Cam Newton was probably the most
- 20:09Speaker 3: potent threat for sure, for sure the most.
- 20:12Speaker 1: But but you're not. But that's what I'm saying, teacher,
- 20:14Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. It's we arguing things that cannot
- 20:17Speaker 1: be argued, because the twenty fifteen Broncos are the most
- 20:21Speaker 1: prolific offense in the NFL's history, not not just the
- 20:27Speaker 1: NFL's history, the playoffs too. They were still killing it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And that's like, and what I'm go ahead. What they're
- 20:35Speaker 1: saying is if we if we ain't talking regular season,
- 20:37Speaker 1: what the are we talking about? Like, that's what records
- 20:40Speaker 1: are broken. That's when they're they're figured. They were killing
- 20:43Speaker 1: throughout the playoffs. So let's let's not think, oh, they
- 20:46Speaker 1: weren't scoring big points throughout the playoffs. They just didn't
- 20:48Speaker 1: get to that super Bowl and score points because of us.
- 20:51Speaker 1: They just ran into an immovable object. But they were
- 20:54Speaker 1: doing it all season long. They set records that the
- 20:57Speaker 1: Carolina Pansers didn't set no records.
- 20:59Speaker 2: They didn't.
- 21:00Speaker 1: They don't got no players that you can remember outside
- 21:02Speaker 1: of Jay Stewart Cam Newton. It was Cam Newton and
- 21:04Speaker 1: the Boys. The defense was the was the strength of
- 21:06Speaker 1: that team, the the Denver Broncos. The offense was one
- 21:11Speaker 1: of the great there's still records that have not been
- 21:13Speaker 1: touched at that that that team had. They had three
- 21:16Speaker 1: was it four thousand yard receivers? Because nah, no, they
- 21:22Speaker 1: had at least three. They had at least that. The
- 21:24Speaker 1: tight end was a thousand both receivers. Decker and I
- 21:28Speaker 1: think I think Wes Welker was like nine hundred. So
- 21:32Speaker 1: you're talking about That's what I'm saying. The numbers were
- 21:34Speaker 1: that crazy. And they had eight points, and they had
- 21:37Speaker 1: eight points in garbage time because the Marrius just was relentless.
- 21:40Speaker 2: The Marryus was not gonna go out of there without
- 21:42Speaker 2: a fight.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Man, my boy, long live, long live. But but that's
- 21:49Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I'm saying we took the football away
- 21:52Speaker 1: at a high level. And you can call it cover three.
- 21:54Speaker 1: But the reason we played cover three was because we
- 21:56Speaker 1: had such smart individuals. Like imagine going into a game
- 22:00Speaker 1: and knowing, hey, all right, if we can see them bang,
- 22:04Speaker 1: we know what plays they gonna run, we know what
- 22:06Speaker 1: concepts they're gonna run.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Hey, I need you here, I need you here. Hey,
- 22:09Speaker 2: you you shift this way. Hey. They know what we're in.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So we're gonna bastardize it like this, and we're gonna
- 22:13Speaker 1: force the ball here and we're gonna book them, like
- 22:15Speaker 1: that's why we bring this so that we can we
- 22:18Speaker 1: can play to the strengths of our players, play to
- 22:20Speaker 1: the intelligence and the IQ of our players and take
- 22:22Speaker 1: the football away that manytimes, that's why we that's why
- 22:25Speaker 1: we killed everybody. Like the big play where Cam hit
- 22:28Speaker 1: the Marus, that was one robber. Yeah, that was one robber.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Cam robbed in the middle of the field and was
- 22:33Speaker 1: coming down. They ran a man beater a pick you know,
- 22:36Speaker 1: crossers and Cam said like like, and that's early in
- 22:40Speaker 1: the game. So again we're playing man on that play.
- 22:42Speaker 1: That's man one robber. But we were we were playing
- 22:46Speaker 1: to the strengths of our players visual like and man
- 22:49Speaker 1: as you know, you ain't you can't look, you can't
- 22:52Speaker 1: really play to concepts and all that. You gotta like, Hey,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm I gotta get to here, get to my leverage,
- 22:57Speaker 1: like hands on staying his hit, like I might chance
- 23:00Speaker 1: to glance if I read throughout early now, But it's
- 23:03Speaker 1: harder to get interceptions. So that's why you rarely have
- 23:06Speaker 1: these teams that are playing so much men coverage go
- 23:09Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl. Like That's why in the last
- 23:12Speaker 1: probably ten years, you look at every Super Bowl champion
- 23:15Speaker 1: and what they playing on defense, and I mean every
- 23:18Speaker 1: NFL team, nobody's playing more than thirty percent man. Even
- 23:21Speaker 1: in Broncos this year, who were living in Man van
- 23:23Speaker 1: Joseph Hatton Boys and Man all time, it was like
- 23:25Speaker 1: thirty one percent.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Yeah, But I think that just makes us even more
- 23:29Speaker 3: special because we did go to the Super Bowl and
- 23:31Speaker 3: we did dominate every team we played defensively. If you
- 23:35Speaker 3: look back at our schedule and you look at the
- 23:38Speaker 3: way we won every game, it was a defensive play
- 23:42Speaker 3: to win the game, whether it was a force turnover,
- 23:45Speaker 3: an interception of fumble for scoop and score a fumble
- 23:50Speaker 3: or interception backed up, if it's a sack to push
- 23:55Speaker 3: another team out of field goal range. Not every game,
- 23:58Speaker 3: but most games was a play like that to win
- 24:02Speaker 3: the game and to.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Go into like your cover three. We only ran cover
- 24:06Speaker 2: three on third and long.
- 24:07Speaker 3: We had a three buzz, but outside of that our
- 24:10Speaker 3: zones were zone man's cover eight right quarters one, cover
- 24:14Speaker 3: quarters two, cover six, reverse quarters two right. That takes
- 24:19Speaker 3: when you're running multiple defenses and to be as cohesive
- 24:26Speaker 3: as we were, and to communicate the things we did running,
- 24:29Speaker 3: whether it was a fire zone, a zone man or man.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Robber, all that.
- 24:34Speaker 3: When you have all these accumulations of defense and you
- 24:38Speaker 3: still are able to communicate across the board and get
- 24:41Speaker 3: things done, and that says another thing about your secondary
- 24:44Speaker 3: and your defensive intelligence as well.
- 24:48Speaker 1: No question about that, now, no question about that. It
- 24:50Speaker 1: takes intelligence, especially safeties, because y'all got to get everybody
- 24:54Speaker 1: lined up, and you got to get everybody moved, and
- 24:55Speaker 1: you got to know where to drop and where to
- 24:57Speaker 1: play and all these crazy blitzes. But it takes. It
- 25:00Speaker 1: takes some cajone's to say, hey, we're gonna run. We're
- 25:05Speaker 1: gonna run three fourth things. We're gonna run, man, we're
- 25:07Speaker 1: gonna run three occasional fire zone and we're gonna line
- 25:10Speaker 1: up and you ain't gonna know nothing about it.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question.
- 25:13Speaker 3: I'm curious about what do you think your percentage of
- 25:18Speaker 3: you know, I know that was your your home defense, right,
- 25:20Speaker 3: what a percentage would you say you ran at above
- 25:23Speaker 3: all of the defenses.
- 25:24Speaker 1: And it's just a curious question. Yeah, all defenses, the three.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It just depends on what you if what you're talking about,
- 25:31Speaker 1: because if you look at the league right now, everybody
- 25:33Speaker 1: runs Cover three at about fifty percent everybody because it's
- 25:37Speaker 1: eight box and it's and it's your first down defense.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Everybody's eight bocks first down against the run. And so
- 25:43Speaker 1: that's what a lot of times it be in because
- 25:45Speaker 1: we're playing it against the run. We're playing base cover
- 25:48Speaker 1: three against whatever base personnel twenty one or twelve.
- 25:54Speaker 2: So if you above the rest of the league, Oh.
- 26:00Speaker 3: No, I'm not saying above the rest of the league.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I'm saying pop just within your team, like compared to
- 26:06Speaker 3: like your cover ones and your would it be like
- 26:09Speaker 3: fifty percent Cover three, fifty percent every all other defenses?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Right, we probably be twenty four to twenty five percent man,
- 26:19Speaker 1: we probably be fifty percent Cover three. We probably be
- 26:22Speaker 1: like ten percent Cover two, maybe ten percent fire zone three,
- 26:29Speaker 1: something like that.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, I say we was probably like we was
- 26:35Speaker 3: probably like forty percent man, thirty percent a quarter style defense,
- 26:42Speaker 3: right whether it was six eight or straight up quarters.
- 26:46Speaker 3: We probably did that thirty percent, probably another twenty percent
- 26:52Speaker 3: I'll say ten to fifteen percent a fire zone, maybe
- 26:55Speaker 3: ten more like ten percent fire zone, and then another
- 26:59Speaker 3: ten to fifteen paying cover three D just because we
- 27:02Speaker 3: ran that a lot on third down, you know, third
- 27:06Speaker 3: and long, third and long.
- 27:08Speaker 2: What Schwartz in Cleveland with you?
- 27:10Speaker 1: Nah?
- 27:11Speaker 2: I didn't have Schwartz, I didn't have Sworts. Who'd you
- 27:13Speaker 2: got I had?
- 27:15Speaker 3: My first year, we had man Jeanie. It was Rob Ryant,
- 27:19Speaker 3: which was great. Rob Ryan was great defense all over
- 27:23Speaker 3: the plays right the name of it. It could be anything.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Then I had Dick Geron, who I came from Green
- 27:30Speaker 3: Bay and he ran We ran more of a four
- 27:32Speaker 3: to three style where strong safety. I was setting a
- 27:34Speaker 3: lot of edges. I was playing like a damn outside linebacker.
- 27:38Speaker 3: It was probably like the worst. And I always say
- 27:40Speaker 3: that I broke my foot that year because I was
- 27:42Speaker 3: forcing so much shit inside. My second year and halfway
- 27:46Speaker 3: through the season, my foot just snapped on me. And
- 27:49Speaker 3: then I came back. The third year was Dick Geron again.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I don't even remember that year too much. I think
- 27:53Speaker 3: I got a pretty good year of DC. But my
- 27:55Speaker 3: fourth year and probably my favorite defense was Ray Horden,
- 27:59Speaker 3: Ray Horden came Pastsburg. I love that defense. I wish
- 28:02Speaker 3: I could have played in his defense my whole career.
- 28:04Speaker 3: And I don't know what happened to him after that season.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I think he man went to Arizona for a little bit,
- 28:10Speaker 3: or he was in Arizona before. But that was one
- 28:13Speaker 3: of my favorite defense along with Wade Phillips.
- 28:16Speaker 2: And then when we got.
- 28:16Speaker 3: To Denver, we had we had Jack fit for that year.
- 28:19Speaker 3: That first year we had Jack. And the only thing
- 28:22Speaker 3: is I didn't like about that defense. It was like
- 28:25Speaker 3: it was like a three man concept right to the
- 28:29Speaker 3: line to tighten and if I want to play man,
- 28:31Speaker 3: let me play man.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Let me go get him and take him.
- 28:34Speaker 3: It was like a man where if the tight ends
- 28:37Speaker 3: went over the linebackers, then you take him, and if
- 28:39Speaker 3: he don't, then it's like a little discrepancy there. And
- 28:42Speaker 3: a lot of times I was ended up chasing guys
- 28:45Speaker 3: laid across the field because the linebackers. It's great, you know,
- 28:49Speaker 3: because it's great, so great, and I'm with Pro Bowl
- 28:53Speaker 3: that you actually had some great numbers, but I just
- 28:55Speaker 3: didn't feel, you know, to yourself. Sometimes you had the
- 28:58Speaker 3: numbers be there you'd be like, man, I kind of had,
- 29:02Speaker 3: you know, fortunate situations, right, But then I had the numbers.
- 29:05Speaker 3: But then the players I seem to give up were more.
- 29:10Speaker 3: And it's not all about what you do good to us,
- 29:13Speaker 3: it's about what you give up. Like I could have
- 29:15Speaker 3: six picks and I gave up. I didn't say, I
- 29:18Speaker 3: think I gave up one touchdown and I don't want
- 29:20Speaker 3: I don't want to give up no touchdowns to no
- 29:23Speaker 3: night ends, no years, and I gave up one, and
- 29:26Speaker 3: I was hot.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I was like, man, I'm doing no.
- 29:28Speaker 1: But that's that's another thing about that year, twenty thirteen year,
- 29:33Speaker 1: we had two dudes for Defensive Player of the year,
- 29:35Speaker 1: got votes for Defensive Player to the Year. I got
- 29:38Speaker 1: I got votes, and Earl got votes for defensive Player
- 29:40Speaker 1: of the Year because I had eight books and I
- 29:42Speaker 1: was strapping. And that was another thing. In the playoffs,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I know you said, y'all made plays to win those games.
- 29:48Speaker 1: In the playoffs. We started the NFC Championship game, guess
- 29:53Speaker 1: what the offense did. He turned the ball of Russ
- 29:55Speaker 1: fumble first played the game, and again, like you just said,
- 29:59Speaker 1: it's in their territory. First play of the game adversity,
- 30:03Speaker 1: we hold them to a field goal, they go up
- 30:05Speaker 1: ten oh. In that game, they go up ten oh,
- 30:07Speaker 1: and they up ten oh for a decent part of
- 30:09Speaker 1: that game. Marshan ended up breaking out scoring hitting US seven.
- 30:14Speaker 1: We get three cool. It's it's three oh. In the
- 30:16Speaker 1: fourth quarter of that game, every time they touched the ball,
- 30:21Speaker 1: we took it.
- 30:21Speaker 2: This is no no. We played.
- 30:25Speaker 1: We played the Saints and Divisional. We played in the
- 30:28Speaker 1: NFC Championship, and they they they dropped back. This is
- 30:32Speaker 1: the beginning of the third They dropped back. Cliff Ever,
- 30:37Speaker 1: I believe forces a fumble, might be ben it picks
- 30:39Speaker 1: it up, runs it to the five. Yeah, offense gets
- 30:44Speaker 1: no points, no points from the five, got no points.
- 30:48Speaker 1: They turned it over, turned it over on downs from
- 30:50Speaker 1: the five. A couple of plays later, Cam picks it
- 30:53Speaker 1: off in the in the in the flats from the thirty.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I think our offense scored after that on a on
- 31:00Speaker 1: a on a free play on fourth down.
- 31:02Speaker 2: It's like fourth and eleven. Free play they got.
- 31:05Speaker 1: They got San Francisco to jump, because we gotta remember
- 31:07Speaker 1: San Francisco had some dogs. They had Navarro, they had
- 31:09Speaker 1: Pat Willis, they had justin they had. They had some
- 31:13Speaker 1: guys they had that was going that it was one
- 31:15Speaker 1: of the best defenses in the league. Sure, and we
- 31:18Speaker 1: got a free play. He hit curves for a touchdown. Cool,
- 31:21Speaker 1: we got a touchdown. Then the last drive of the
- 31:23Speaker 1: game is when I tip it to Malcolm, Malcolm pick
- 31:25Speaker 1: it off in that game. Those are the three drives
- 31:28Speaker 1: they had in the Super Bowl. That's that's the kind
- 31:30Speaker 1: of defense we was playing. So it wasn't like, man,
- 31:32Speaker 1: we we getting you know, we we having these relaxed
- 31:35Speaker 1: games and we just chilling and we just like we
- 31:38Speaker 1: having to show up and dominate to give us a chance.
- 31:41Speaker 2: If we don't stop and if I give up that
- 31:43Speaker 2: touchdown right there, we lose. Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Like now, even after all everything we did in that game,
- 31:47Speaker 1: we lose that game. And so it's literally clutch play
- 31:51Speaker 1: after clutch play after clutch play. And it happened throughout
- 31:53Speaker 1: the season. We had many games where it was like, hey,
- 31:56Speaker 1: pick six to bring us back.
- 31:58Speaker 2: We losing.
- 31:58Speaker 1: We losing in Houston with two minutes to go, they're
- 32:02Speaker 1: at midfield, third and four, shop, I want.
- 32:06Speaker 2: To do a half boot, trying to throw it to
- 32:08Speaker 2: the flat.
- 32:09Speaker 1: We run a fire zone like palms concept and we
- 32:15Speaker 1: invert out of cover three and I jumped down the
- 32:17Speaker 1: palms picked six fifty yards twenty one up to bring
- 32:21Speaker 1: us back in.
- 32:22Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 32:22Speaker 1: It's plays like that all season where your best players
- 32:27Speaker 1: is making the big time plays. And I feel like
- 32:29Speaker 1: y'all did the same thing. I feel like Von had
- 32:31Speaker 1: the plays. I mean the AFC Championship in Super Bowl
- 32:36Speaker 1: for Vaughn. That boy, that boy was played. Yeah.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Look, he played so well, especially those last two games.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Like I'm not gonna say only but when I looked
- 32:48Speaker 3: at I had to go back and look when we
- 32:50Speaker 3: just going over a lot of this stuff, and he
- 32:52Speaker 3: had eleven and a half sex regular season, right, I
- 32:55Speaker 3: was thinking he had at least fifteen, you know what
- 32:57Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Like just the way that playoff run. And so I went,
- 33:00Speaker 2: I'm like, he only had eleven and a half sex.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Like I told you about fifty sacks during the regular season,
- 33:06Speaker 3: the way he was playing in the playoffs, and I look, man,
- 33:10Speaker 3: we both turned up as far as turnovers in the playoffs,
- 33:13Speaker 3: Like you said, defensive, you guys had eight.
- 33:15Speaker 2: We had seven.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Right, just when you're back against the wall in situations
- 33:22Speaker 3: and the biggest moments, the biggest moments of the season.
- 33:28Speaker 3: What do you do? What happens, and what do you do?
- 33:32Speaker 3: Do you get the ball back? Do you get a
- 33:34Speaker 3: big stop?
- 33:35Speaker 2: Do you know?
- 33:37Speaker 3: How do you react to being uncomfortable in urgent situations?
- 33:46Speaker 2: Right?
- 33:47Speaker 3: And that's what we did, both of us defenses. Wise,
- 33:50Speaker 3: like you said, things may not always go right in
- 33:54Speaker 3: the way you want them, and a lot of shit
- 33:55Speaker 3: be unexpected.
- 33:57Speaker 2: You may get a turnover, get you right back on
- 33:59Speaker 2: the field. God damn, we just got the ball. You
- 34:03Speaker 2: can't even sit down on this big for a little bit.
- 34:06Speaker 3: But you know, I will say that, no, like I said,
- 34:11Speaker 3: you guys eight to our seven the offenses we played,
- 34:16Speaker 3: and like we talked about, you know, and this one
- 34:18Speaker 3: more point the points per.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Play, then I'm gonna have to go in our favorite.
- 34:22Speaker 3: It's not by much, but our yards per play was
- 34:26Speaker 3: four point three nine.
- 34:28Speaker 2: You know what, you guys were four point four.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Right over right behind us.
- 34:36Speaker 3: At four point four man, So you know, nonetheless, man,
- 34:42Speaker 3: I enjoy watching y'all play. I enjoy watching y'all do
- 34:45Speaker 3: y'all whole thing, like Cam, my dog, earl and my
- 34:48Speaker 3: dog Man.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I talked to Cam more.
- 34:50Speaker 3: And then I talked to a lot of guys on
- 34:53Speaker 3: our defense, right, just through Instagram or what not, checking
- 34:56Speaker 3: on you know, everybody's well being.
- 34:59Speaker 2: You know, me, Earl CA and yourself.
- 35:01Speaker 3: We all came out the same draft class, so we've
- 35:04Speaker 3: had eyes on each other for a long time, right,
- 35:06Speaker 3: just checking each other's game and just seeing you guys
- 35:12Speaker 3: do what you did in Seattle. It motivated not only
- 35:16Speaker 3: the whole league, right because in football, it's always looked
- 35:21Speaker 3: at it as an offensive game, right. Offense sales the tickets.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Offense is who gets paid first. You know, Offense is
- 35:31Speaker 3: the first child, you know most of the time, right,
- 35:34Speaker 3: they or the baby, whatever you want to whoever gets
- 35:37Speaker 3: treated better. But we all know defense wins championships and
- 35:41Speaker 3: without that defense, man, you're knock on win nothing.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Exactly, yeah, exactly, And that's what I want to say
- 35:50Speaker 1: about y'all too.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Bro.
- 35:51Speaker 1: We had a lot of you. Just as a defensive player,
- 35:54Speaker 1: you admire great defense. And we played Carolina that twenty
- 35:58Speaker 1: fifteen years He had some issues early in the game,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and you know, some things happened, but but they Jay
- 36:05Speaker 1: Stu had had a good game and we lost that Jay.
- 36:08Speaker 2: We watched Jay Stew was killing man. He was a
- 36:12Speaker 2: hard tackle. Man. I had he. I had him in college.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Man, you played to get see so man, look when
- 36:18Speaker 3: he came in.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I was like, what the fuck is this? Bro?
- 36:23Speaker 1: I remember coming to autin my freshman year at Stanford
- 36:28Speaker 1: and I wasn't expected to play. This was two thy eleven.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Oh no, no, two thousand and six, sorry, two thousand
- 36:34Speaker 1: and six. In two thousand and six, we come in
- 36:37Speaker 1: to Auton and I've never been there, you know what
- 36:40Speaker 1: I mean. I'm just a kid from Compton trying to
- 36:42Speaker 1: try to figure it out. Y'all came out there with
- 36:44Speaker 1: with you, Pat Chung, Walter Thurman and Bird I think
- 36:52Speaker 1: was at the other corner.
- 36:53Speaker 2: And boy, when I tell you.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Y'all told us up and down that field and Jay
- 36:59Speaker 1: stew Our best player was our safety.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Brandon Harrison.
- 37:03Speaker 1: He was a big dude, like like two thirty, you know,
- 37:07Speaker 1: six two supposed to be League bounds, supposed to be
- 37:09Speaker 1: and he killing us in training camp. So I'm like, boy,
- 37:12Speaker 1: this boy is nice.
- 37:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:13Speaker 1: All you know is yeah, Jay Stu got up that sideline,
- 37:18Speaker 1: grabbed him by his face, mask yump to the ground
- 37:22Speaker 1: and just got out of there. I said, it's real
- 37:25Speaker 1: out here. His voice is real. They legitimate.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I gotta, I gotta.
- 37:31Speaker 3: You know, when your head dog, when your main dog
- 37:34Speaker 3: get dog down, you you you in for a long day.
- 37:38Speaker 2: He just did that to Demo God dog dog.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Ah.
- 37:45Speaker 1: That's funny as hell. That's funny as hey. We got
- 37:48Speaker 1: some breaking news. It looks like the Kansas City Chiefs
- 37:53Speaker 1: just traded Trip mcduffeat to the Rams or first round pick,
- 38:00Speaker 1: fifth round pick, sixth round pick, a third round pick
- 38:05Speaker 1: for twenty twenty seven.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Like Christmas list. God damn, the Santa Claus came with that. Man.
- 38:16Speaker 2: That's wow. Wow. NFC West right now, NFC West is
- 38:24Speaker 2: an arms rate.
- 38:25Speaker 3: It is last year. They was cooking last year. I
- 38:27Speaker 3: said they was the best division in football. And I
- 38:30Speaker 3: know the Rams are losing Kobe Durant, which was probably
- 38:33Speaker 3: their best corner. Like that boy was out there making plays.
- 38:36Speaker 3: He going to free agency and they, I mean, that
- 38:40Speaker 3: was a knot on the on the Rams this year.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Was that secondary right, They had Forbes out there.
- 38:45Speaker 2: He had an up and down season.
- 38:48Speaker 3: You know, Kobe Durant was holding it down as far
- 38:50Speaker 3: as turnovers, but they gave up a lot of players
- 38:53Speaker 3: especially to you guys, man, and crucial clutch plays and
- 38:57Speaker 3: clutch moments. So we just talked about your defense what
- 39:01Speaker 3: they have to do in the bigger moments of the game.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Man, What do you think about this? Man, Sean, I
- 39:06Speaker 2: think this.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I low key feel like that the rams got laced
- 39:10Speaker 1: because I don't know about a corner getting that much
- 39:13Speaker 1: of a haul like a first, like a first round
- 39:16Speaker 1: pick for him would have made sense. So you just said, okay,
- 39:18Speaker 1: first round, but they gave a fifth, sixth in a
- 39:21Speaker 1: third from next year, like that just seems like a lot.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And it seems like on the chief side, they might
- 39:27Speaker 1: be going into rebuild mode. They might be feeling like, hey,
- 39:29Speaker 1: this is gonna be a throwaway year because they don't
- 39:32Speaker 1: know when Pat Mahomes is going to be back. You know,
- 39:35Speaker 1: he's coming off the ACL. You don't know how quickly
- 39:38Speaker 1: that's gonna heal. Is he going to be back mid season?
- 39:40Speaker 1: Is he gonna be back late be back late season?
- 39:44Speaker 1: I don't know. And so giving up your best corner
- 39:48Speaker 1: seems like in getting draft picks for it seems like, hey,
- 39:51Speaker 1: we're just investing in the future and we don't want
- 39:53Speaker 1: to keep paying high value corners and save a little
- 39:56Speaker 1: bit of money, so they may be able to retain
- 39:59Speaker 1: I mean, I guess maybe retain Chris Jones and some
- 40:01Speaker 1: of the other guys that they have. But for the Rams,
- 40:04Speaker 1: it makes sense, like for the reasons you said they're
- 40:06Speaker 1: they're losing Forbes, they got a great front and Jared
- 40:10Speaker 1: Vers and Biring Young and Braydon Fisk. Landman's a good linebacker,
- 40:14Speaker 1: so they feel good about their front, but they need
- 40:16Speaker 1: to secure that back in if they're gonna keep competing
- 40:19Speaker 1: with the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco forty nine ers.
- 40:22Speaker 1: That that division, everybody had ten wins and everybody was
- 40:26Speaker 1: you know, two of them more. In the NFC Championship game,
- 40:29Speaker 1: the Niners got put out by the Seahawks in a
- 40:31Speaker 1: divisional But they're gonna get healthier this year. They're gonna
- 40:35Speaker 1: get all their best players back. For Ed Warner's coming back,
- 40:37Speaker 1: Nick nick Bose is coming back. It's some up in
- 40:40Speaker 1: the air stuff about Trent Williams, but I would assume
- 40:42Speaker 1: he's coming back, and them at full strength is as
- 40:45Speaker 1: good as any team in this league. So it's gonna
- 40:47Speaker 1: be fun to watch.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm I think, honestly, I think
- 40:53Speaker 3: the Chiefs won this one, especially with that third, with
- 40:56Speaker 3: that charity on the top. My thing is the turnovers
- 41:01Speaker 3: right from your number one corner to last year or
- 41:04Speaker 3: one last year, two, the.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Year before, zero, the years.
- 41:07Speaker 3: And I really see Trent as an inside nickel, right,
- 41:10Speaker 3: he can play the outside, but last year seemed that
- 41:13Speaker 3: he got picked on a little bit out there when
- 41:16Speaker 3: he was at the number one, especially against bigger receivers.
- 41:20Speaker 3: And that was just me looking at as many games
- 41:23Speaker 3: as I've watched. Of course I didn't watch every game,
- 41:25Speaker 3: but I watched a lot of the Chiefs games, especially
- 41:27Speaker 3: them being you know AFC West, right, you pay attention
- 41:30Speaker 3: to that.
- 41:30Speaker 2: When you watching the Broncos.
- 41:32Speaker 3: So a first rounder, like you said, cool, maybe another
- 41:35Speaker 3: late rounder, but then another late rounder and the third man,
- 41:41Speaker 3: ah Man, big Red Andy Reid.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I think they won that one.
- 41:43Speaker 3: And knowing that they like to develop through the draft,
- 41:47Speaker 3: it gives them another opportunity to bring a younger player in,
- 41:51Speaker 3: maybe an ideal player that they may want to get
- 41:54Speaker 3: in free agency, but.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Hey, let's not spend the money. Let's get this.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Type of player in the draft for the lo and
- 42:00Speaker 3: develop him and we could pay. Our big horse who
- 42:03Speaker 3: pretty much makes everything happen is Chris Jones, right like,
- 42:07Speaker 3: you better keep him if you want to upset Chris Jones.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I would dare to say the best player in football defense,
- 42:16Speaker 3: right man, I would look.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Not far from I don't think they win any of
- 42:19Speaker 1: those Super Bowls without him, No, absolutely, And that's my
- 42:23Speaker 1: personal opinion. I know he had a down year this year.
- 42:26Speaker 1: I think he would he would admit that, he would
- 42:28Speaker 1: say it. The tape says it. And I think people
- 42:31Speaker 1: are so down on him, especially you hear Kansas City
- 42:34Speaker 1: Chiefs fans like man.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Get rid of him, get rid of him.
- 42:36Speaker 1: People have down years, guys, But when he's on in
- 42:41Speaker 1: twenty three, in nineteen and twenty, like a lot of
- 42:44Speaker 1: those years, y'all won super Bowls. He was the reason
- 42:47Speaker 1: he won him that super Bowl in twenty three nineteen.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He had an incredible year. She had an impactful game
- 42:54Speaker 1: that season in the Super Bowl, and I'm not sure
- 42:58Speaker 1: they win it without him. So again, as you said,
- 43:00Speaker 1: keep him happy, keep and maybe surround him with more talent,
- 43:03Speaker 1: like more d Lin talent. You know, pass rush wins
- 43:07Speaker 1: games in this league. Pass rush. You got to have it,
- 43:09Speaker 1: and I think it showed up in the AFC side
- 43:13Speaker 1: because of what Houston's doing with Danil Hunter and Will Anderson. Uh,
- 43:18Speaker 1: what what Denver's doing with with Benito and Cooper and
- 43:22Speaker 1: those boys, and even interior they got interior all pro
- 43:27Speaker 1: uh and uh Zach Zach Allen. Yeah, yeah, who's Who's
- 43:32Speaker 1: Who's freaking phenomenal. But a great pass rush gets you,
- 43:35Speaker 1: gives you a chance, you know, and as you said earlier,
- 43:38Speaker 1: pass rush and coverage work together.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I like, I think, I like especially, I think
- 43:42Speaker 3: this draft has an abundance of pass rushers that you
- 43:47Speaker 3: can get laid after those early guys go right after
- 43:49Speaker 3: the banns Uh, he'll probably maybe you know the boys
- 43:53Speaker 3: at Ohio State, they can change the defense. Right Our
- 43:58Speaker 3: guy is at the text the Red Raiders, he's I
- 44:02Speaker 3: think he'll be the first defensive guy gone. But then
- 44:04Speaker 3: you got a group of long outside corners that are
- 44:09Speaker 3: coming out of this draft this year.
- 44:11Speaker 2: So man, it's gonna be interesting to see.
- 44:14Speaker 3: It's gonna be very interesting to see how they installed
- 44:19Speaker 3: McDuffie in that Rams defense, and really, what responsibility do
- 44:22Speaker 3: they have. Do they have them playing more inside? Do
- 44:24Speaker 3: they have somebody that they picture to play outside or
- 44:27Speaker 3: they gonna line them up immediately at number one on
- 44:30Speaker 3: your best receiver.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm interested to see that too. And we've had
- 44:35Speaker 1: those conversations before about you know, shadowing the number one receiver?
- 44:40Speaker 1: And is that the most valuable thing to do? Is
- 44:42Speaker 1: that the smartest thing for a defense to do? And
- 44:44Speaker 1: I think it's situational, you know, I don't think it's
- 44:47Speaker 1: something you do every week, because not every week you
- 44:49Speaker 1: got a true number one that's that impactful, that's getting
- 44:51Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty targets. You know, if you looked
- 44:54Speaker 1: at this Super Bowl and said, hey, you're playing the Patriots.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Are you playing the Seahawks? You say, oh, man, if
- 44:59Speaker 1: you the Patriots, you're following JSN. But then JSN goes
- 45:03Speaker 1: out early in that game and you're like, okay, so
- 45:05Speaker 1: who do you follow?
- 45:06Speaker 2: Now?
- 45:07Speaker 1: Here's nobody else worth worth following or dictating your defense
- 45:10Speaker 1: like that, So it kind of kills the point of it.
- 45:12Speaker 1: And on the other side, if you're playing the Patriots,
- 45:16Speaker 1: who you who you following with number one? Kashawan, Boody
- 45:19Speaker 1: Douglas is digs the guy, you know what I mean?
- 45:21Speaker 1: None of them are getting those kind of targets or
- 45:23Speaker 1: that kind of focus for you to say, hey, we
- 45:26Speaker 1: need to designate our defense to focus on this guy
- 45:29Speaker 1: and put our best player, uh and and kind of
- 45:32Speaker 1: tilt our defense that way.
- 45:33Speaker 2: In my opinion, Yeah, you.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Just brought up a something I was. You made me
- 45:36Speaker 3: realize Tarique wooling up. You know, you could probably get
- 45:40Speaker 3: him for a cheaper price than he was worth for
- 45:42Speaker 3: two years ago. So I mean, it's a lot of
- 45:45Speaker 3: free agent corners out there as well. I don't know
- 45:48Speaker 3: if I like this by the Rams. I really don't know,
- 45:50Speaker 3: but hey, I could they you know McVeigh, great head coach,
- 45:54Speaker 3: you can prove me wrong.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Right right, do your thing.
- 45:59Speaker 1: They might just put out a stat they've traded every
- 46:02Speaker 1: first round pick for the last ten years. Really, Yeah,
- 46:10Speaker 1: twenty seventeen traded traded their pick to the Titans, twenty eighteen,
- 46:14Speaker 1: traded their pick to the Patriots, twenty nineteen to the Falcons,
- 46:17Speaker 1: twenty twenty to the Jags, twenty twenty one to the Jags,
- 46:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty two to the Lions, twenty three to the
- 46:21Speaker 1: Lions twenty four they drafted Jared Verse.
- 46:24Speaker 2: So my bad, it wasn't all the whole ten year.
- 46:27Speaker 2: That's a lot. They always in the wind now seemed
- 46:29Speaker 2: like if you're getting up.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Your first round picks, I got Matt back here. I'm
- 46:34Speaker 3: in the win now until he retired at it ain't
- 46:36Speaker 3: no way until later. We're trying to win every Super
- 46:39Speaker 3: Bowl this year. So that's a good I mean, that's
- 46:41Speaker 3: a good place to be in. That's a great place
- 46:43Speaker 3: to be in. That's a great place to be. You
- 46:45Speaker 3: feel like you always got a chance. And Matt is
- 46:47Speaker 3: one of them.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Dudes, man, for real, for real, he definitely is MVP.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Hey can't argue that.
- 46:53Speaker 1: But but we had a lot of respect for y'all
- 46:56Speaker 1: in what y'all did and y'all defense. And you know,
- 46:59Speaker 1: we go back for if it's all fun because we
- 47:01Speaker 1: just pride for players and we play.
- 47:03Speaker 2: You played at a high level, and we played.
- 47:04Speaker 1: At a high level, and everybody wants to be the
- 47:07Speaker 1: best and take pride in what they did. But as
- 47:09Speaker 1: you just said, defensive players can appreciate just great defense
- 47:13Speaker 1: being played, you know, And I love it even nowadays
- 47:16Speaker 1: when I see like the Seahawks defense and what they
- 47:18Speaker 1: did to the Patriots in the in the Super Bowl
- 47:20Speaker 1: and anytime there's a great defense. I loved what Denver
- 47:23Speaker 1: was doing all year, you know that what they had
- 47:26Speaker 1: going and uh and certain in them boys in Houston
- 47:30Speaker 1: with them boys in Houston on it's crazy young boys
- 47:34Speaker 1: is playing good football.
- 47:35Speaker 2: So it's it's great to see that.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Man.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Maybe you and me could collab more because I enjoyed this. Yeah,
- 47:40Speaker 1: joy seeing you getting getting the talk ball.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Nah, definitely we we gotta do it again, man, Like
- 47:46Speaker 3: you said, Uh, great collaboration.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I'm glad we got to do this. Man. Always a
- 47:51Speaker 2: pleasure talking to you. Man.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Hey, we gonna leave it up to y'all, and y'all
- 47:56Speaker 3: argue amongst yourself.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Man, it's no.
