- 0:00Speaker 1: For as heavily as Crypto was marketed in this film,
- 0:03Speaker 1: that he's not just shown and and kind of forgotten.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I'd argue that this is actually a movie.
- 0:08Speaker 3: About Cryptos movie. This is Cryptos movie for sure. This
- 0:11Speaker 3: is Cryptos movie. Hello, and welcome to May the re
- 0:15Speaker 3: you be with you with Nick and Joe Joe.
- 0:19Speaker 2: And I'm Nick, and today, ladies and gents, we are
- 0:21Speaker 2: talking about James Gunn's Superman. Best Superman movie ever, best
- 0:26Speaker 2: Superman movie ever. For me, it's not even and it's
- 0:29Speaker 2: not even close. It's not even close. You can come
- 0:31Speaker 2: at me with pitchforest on the Internet. You can hit
- 0:33Speaker 2: us up in the comments and tell me that Man
- 0:34Speaker 2: of Steel with Henry Cavill was so much better. It's like, no, actually,
- 0:37Speaker 2: you're wrong, so get off of our.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I legitimately walked out of the theater and heard someone
- 0:43Speaker 1: say that.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, well that person needs to go play in traffic,
- 0:49Speaker 2: and that's incorrect. It's just incorrect. Jame's gonna absolutely crush this.
- 0:54Speaker 1: And I have nothing against Henry Cavill's Superman, but like, yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 1: but I don't know, I feel like Superman should be
- 1:02Speaker 1: like kind of a happier guy, like I mean.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Cavil was cool. I liked it, but yeah, it was.
- 1:11Speaker 3: It was a very different take on the character.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Great, right, and and not to We're not going to
- 1:16Speaker 2: spend the whole time comparing them. But I remember watching
- 1:19Speaker 2: Man of Steel. You know, I really liked the Superman movie.
- 1:22Speaker 2: It was at the time my favorite one that i'd seen,
- 1:25Speaker 2: or my favorite iteration of Superman in any capacity. Right, yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 2: Because overall, I'm not the biggest fan of Superman. I
- 1:33Speaker 2: just think it's really hard to humanize him and make
- 1:36Speaker 2: him feel like he's vulnerable because of how powerful he is.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And I did. I didn't think a lot of iterations
- 1:44Speaker 2: of him did that very well, and so I always
- 1:45Speaker 2: like leaned more towards like being a fan of Batman
- 1:47Speaker 2: or The Flash or something like that when it comes
- 1:49Speaker 2: to like DC. But this version James gunn Superman, it
- 1:55Speaker 2: did all of those things way better than anything I
- 1:59Speaker 2: had seen previously, in my opinion, and I loved it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It was awesome. It had a comic book flair, it
- 2:04Speaker 2: had it had a modern day superhero flare. It had comedy,
- 2:09Speaker 2: It had James Gun comedy. There was a dog that
- 2:13Speaker 2: we all love.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Now like oh yeah, so like it is.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It is so funny to me that, like you can
- 2:19Speaker 1: tell James Gun is going through like a pet era
- 2:23Speaker 1: right now, like in his personal life, Like there were
- 2:25Speaker 1: so many pets in this movie. There were three dogs,
- 2:28Speaker 1: there were turtles. This dude loves animals so much. I mean,
- 2:30Speaker 1: if that wasn't obvious in the gardens of the Galaxy three,
- 2:33Speaker 1: like it should be obvious now.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Dude loves animals absolutely.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And yeah, that's just my initial thoughts. Overall, I absolutely
- 2:42Speaker 2: loved it. I think DC's in great hands. I'm actually
- 2:45Speaker 2: excited now for the first time in my life about
- 2:48Speaker 2: the DC universe, right, Like I loved the Batman movies
- 2:51Speaker 2: from Christopher Nolan, I love the Batman from my Matt
- 2:54Speaker 2: Ray Marieve, but like, overall, there wasn't much else to
- 2:57Speaker 2: be excited about DC, wise from a movie perspective, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: this now has me like fully on board.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Can I give you a hot take? Yeah, okay, So
- 3:06Speaker 1: first off, what you just said was huge, right, because
- 3:09Speaker 1: like I'm sure that there are a lot of people
- 3:11Speaker 1: like you who were like, I don't get what the
- 3:13Speaker 1: DCEU is, Like this sucks, right, So for you to
- 3:17Speaker 1: be like actually excited again about DC movies. That's that's gigantic,
- 3:22Speaker 1: my hot tache. Christopher Nolan, who, like you know, we
- 3:27Speaker 1: love right, We're big fans of Christopher Nolan on this show.
- 3:31Speaker 3: He was the worst thing.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That ever happened to DC, Like the worst thing ever.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And I say this is similar, You're right. Well, no, no,
- 3:40Speaker 1: not even not even right, because I mean you're right
- 3:43Speaker 1: because like Dark Knight is phenomenal, Batman begins pretty good.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Dark Knight phenomenal, Dark Knight Rises, but whatever, like the
- 3:49Speaker 1: first two great. I have my issues with Dark Knight Rises.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But the thing is, like Christopher Nolan grounded Batman in
- 3:58Speaker 1: in you know, a very realistic way to very dark way, right,
- 4:01Speaker 1: And because of like the success of that, DC was like, oh,
- 4:06Speaker 1: we gotta do that, We gotta do that for everybody.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We got to do that for all of our people.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And like they tried to do that with Man of Steel,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and Christopher Nolan was even a producer on that movie.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And I don't think that movie failed at all, but
- 4:19Speaker 1: it said a tone that DC was like never able
- 4:22Speaker 1: to get away from.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Right exactly, and that tone just did not work. And
- 4:27Speaker 2: speaking of tone, this is honestly, and I'm not kidding.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Before we even saw a character on screen, I knew
- 4:34Speaker 2: that this was the thirty seconds I'm like, this is
- 4:37Speaker 2: exactly how I wanted this movie to start. When it
- 4:40Speaker 2: has the writing right and it's like three centuries.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Ago meta humans showed up on Earth or a meta humans.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Showed up on Earth, but giving us that intro basically
- 4:51Speaker 2: the origin story of not just Superman but kind of
- 4:54Speaker 2: meta humans.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Too, right, yeah, universe right, it gave us like.
- 4:57Speaker 2: The DC Universe meta humans origin story kind of, and
- 5:01Speaker 2: then it gave us Superman's origin story in writing because
- 5:04Speaker 2: everybody knows it. We don't need to see it. We
- 5:05Speaker 2: don't need to see it. Everybody knows this. Thank you.
- 5:09Speaker 2: First of all, thank you, And with the music right,
- 5:11Speaker 2: the title card music playing in the background, reading all this,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and then it's just like, you know, three minutes ago
- 5:17Speaker 2: Superman lost his first fight, like and then it starts
- 5:20Speaker 2: with him getting his ass kicked literally like that moment,
- 5:25Speaker 2: you're like, this movie is gonna be fucking fantastic, and
- 5:27Speaker 2: it did not disappoint for the rest of it, which
- 5:30Speaker 2: is like amazing.
- 5:32Speaker 3: It was cool to.
- 5:33Speaker 1: See him take like a him being James Gun take
- 5:36Speaker 1: a play out of like the Star Wars playbook, because
- 5:38Speaker 1: like one of the reasons why like New Hope was
- 5:41Speaker 1: like so successful is like that that intro. That intro
- 5:43Speaker 1: is killer, right. You get the summary crawl, the background
- 5:47Speaker 1: crawl of everything you need to know about what's going on,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and it just drops you in the middle of the action.
- 5:52Speaker 1: You see small ship being chased by big ship, and
- 5:55Speaker 1: like that's all you need to know. It's like, we're
- 5:56Speaker 1: in the middle of the action. We know that Superman
- 5:59Speaker 1: is the strongest meta human that's that's ever lived on Earth,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and three minutes ago he just lost his first fight
- 6:04Speaker 1: and then we just see.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Him plummet into the ice.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah, stell stellar beginning.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Man just a kick ass way to set the tone
- 6:13Speaker 2: to open up the film, right, gets his butt kicked,
- 6:16Speaker 2: and we get to see Crypto like just be the
- 6:20Speaker 2: most pain in the ass bad dog you've ever seen. Right.
- 6:23Speaker 1: It is such a smart move to get a cute,
- 6:26Speaker 1: fun dog involved in any sort of in any sort
- 6:32Speaker 1: of way that you know, it doesn't make the movie
- 6:34Speaker 1: seem overly silly, right, because I mean for anyone who's
- 6:37Speaker 1: like not like an action movie lover or a comic
- 6:40Speaker 1: book lover, most people unless like you're purely a cat
- 6:44Speaker 1: person for whatever reason. For the record, love cats. It's
- 6:48Speaker 1: not a this towards cat people. But like, I know
- 6:51Speaker 1: that there are some people who just don't like dogs.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Most people seem to like dogs to some capacity. So
- 6:55Speaker 1: to know that, like, you know, he was a big
- 6:57Speaker 1: part of this movie and is gonna be a big
- 6:59Speaker 1: part of the pc EU are ceu like moving forward?
- 7:03Speaker 1: So smart, so so smart, like way to connect with
- 7:06Speaker 1: an audience, like so fast.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Also, in case someone hasn't heard this yet, fun that
- 7:14Speaker 1: Crypto is based on James Gun's dog Ozu. Super fun
- 7:19Speaker 1: that his dog is actually part of the movie to
- 7:21Speaker 1: some capacity. There you go, a huge dog lover James Gunn.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I have one other thing though, to talk about politically,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and it really has to do more with kind of
- 7:33Speaker 1: the legacy of Superman, because this movie, like it seems
- 7:38Speaker 1: pretty clear already that once the box office weekend is closed,
- 7:42Speaker 1: and more than likely we'll be watching this after the
- 7:45Speaker 1: premiere box office weekend is closed, this movie is going
- 7:47Speaker 1: to have a successful box office weekend and probably will
- 7:50Speaker 1: for the next few weeks as well. And that got
- 7:53Speaker 1: me thinking about, like what that says about like where
- 7:55Speaker 1: the public is right now of a movie like this,
- 7:58Speaker 1: like compared to like Man of Deal or Dark Night,
- 8:01Speaker 1: when that those are coming out, right, and you know
- 8:04Speaker 1: what we were just talking about, Mantra could be very well,
- 8:07Speaker 1: be kind, be excellent to each other. Right, there's a
- 8:09Speaker 1: very positive and hopeful feeling to this movie. And I
- 8:13Speaker 1: was I was thinking about, like when when Superman has
- 8:15Speaker 1: really made like his biggest splashes on the public right
- 8:21Speaker 1: and the greater audience of either America or the world.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And I'm thinking about like when Superman came out originally
- 8:30Speaker 1: in Action Comics nineteen thirty eight. I'm thinking about, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: forty years later, when Christopher Reeves Dawned the Cape and
- 8:37Speaker 1: the s in nineteen seventy eight, right, and then right
- 8:41Speaker 1: now right with James Gunns Superman with David Cornsweet as
- 8:45Speaker 1: as Superman, right, and where the public is in those moments,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and each time it's nineteen thirty eight, you know, it's
- 8:53Speaker 1: coming out of the Great or it's like toward the
- 8:56Speaker 1: tail end of the Great Depression going into World War two,
- 8:59Speaker 1: World War II one still in the minds of people, right,
- 9:02Speaker 1: there's like a dark kind of mood in the public
- 9:04Speaker 1: nineteen seventy eight. We're coming off like an energy crisis,
- 9:08Speaker 1: We're coming off of the Vietnam War, We're coming off
- 9:11Speaker 1: the Watergate scandal. You know, there are these moments of
- 9:14Speaker 1: like mistrust or like, yeah, I was like with mistrust
- 9:17Speaker 1: of the government, right and right now there's political animosity.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Superman works best when people are like looking for some
- 9:25Speaker 1: kind of vestige of hope, right, And I think that's
- 9:29Speaker 1: very much what this movie tried to do, and I
- 9:32Speaker 1: think it absolutely succeeds in it.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great point. I mean, Superman is hope, right,
- 9:40Speaker 2: and it just did a phenomenal job like giving that
- 9:44Speaker 2: to you while still, in my opinion, staying true to
- 9:47Speaker 2: like it's comic book ness as well, right, Like they
- 9:52Speaker 2: humanized they humanized him like so well in this film,
- 9:55Speaker 2: but also still made you believe that like he's of
- 9:58Speaker 2: course otherworldly and extremely powerful. Ah jeez, It's just I'm
- 10:05Speaker 2: still blown away and how impressed I am with it.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Like I was so mad at DC for so long,
- 10:11Speaker 2: and now I'm excited as hell.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I'm excited as hell, And I think you said it best.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Superman is hope, and despite being like a symbol he's
- 10:19Speaker 1: still like relatable as like a human character right as
- 10:22Speaker 1: someone is just trying to figure out like who he
- 10:25Speaker 1: even is anymore after having like his world rocked right
- 10:30Speaker 1: finding out that his his parents sent him on a
- 10:33Speaker 1: mission of conquest, which as far as Superman comics go,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'm not super familiar with that plot thread. I'm not
- 10:40Speaker 1: I doubt that that's a James Gunn original necessarily, but
- 10:45Speaker 1: that that one was new to me, and that was
- 10:46Speaker 1: that was quite the spicy little twist there.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I enjoyed that.
- 10:52Speaker 1: This movie had so much going on in it, so like,
- 10:56Speaker 1: let's get let's get into the plot here. I've heard
- 10:59Speaker 1: people call it MESSI I've heard other people call it chaotic.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I think it's definitely chaotic because, like it definitely all
- 11:05Speaker 1: goes to a logical point, right, Like there's not really
- 11:08Speaker 1: a plot threat necessarily that is useless.
- 11:12Speaker 3: It all it all goes somewhere.
- 11:13Speaker 1: There's a lot of characters, they're all doing something, even
- 11:16Speaker 1: if it's just sitting in the corner crying. And I'm
- 11:18Speaker 1: referring to one specific journalist. But uh, yeah, let's uh,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you want to start with the man Stia, I want
- 11:26Speaker 1: to start with Big Blue.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, let's start with Big Blue.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Start with Big Blue.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So, yeah, as we were just talking about, Suitman's plot
- 11:35Speaker 1: line throughout this movie is kind of you know, he's
- 11:39Speaker 1: at the beginning of his super heroism. You know, he's
- 11:41Speaker 1: only three years in and he's trying to rediscover who
- 11:46Speaker 1: he is or really figuring out like how he how
- 11:50Speaker 1: he weighs into this world, and especially when a certain
- 11:56Speaker 1: part of the world starts pushing back against him, and
- 11:59Speaker 1: at one point, entire world starts pushing back against him.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And I think it's it's him trying to persevere through that.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You know you were talking about earlier. What makes Superman,
- 12:11Speaker 1: potentially in the hands of a writer who doesn't really
- 12:14Speaker 1: know what they're doing, kind of boring is when you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: how do you outmatch Superman? And truthfully, I mean like
- 12:22Speaker 1: you can, you can get someone who's strong and like,
- 12:24Speaker 1: you know, you might be able to make a compelling plot.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But I think the plot's really compelling when you lean
- 12:28Speaker 1: into his human characteristics, right, and that's this, you know,
- 12:33Speaker 1: the public opinion.
- 12:34Speaker 2: He's just doesn't have to give up gene, right, He's
- 12:37Speaker 2: just gonna do whatever it takes. And yeah, his his
- 12:41Speaker 2: like character development really even in this film, right, like
- 12:45Speaker 2: because he starts off being this symbol of hope that
- 12:49Speaker 2: everybody loves, right, and as the movie progresses, like Lex
- 12:52Speaker 2: and I forget the name of the country, but they're trying,
- 12:54Speaker 2: they're basically doing whatever they can to bring him down, right,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and they want to defeed him, and they're using their
- 13:03Speaker 2: social media skills. But then also of course they obtained
- 13:07Speaker 2: this like actual video of his family telling him that
- 13:11Speaker 2: he should be like the you know, dominate this planet,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and they use all these things against him to kind
- 13:17Speaker 2: of turn it the world against him for a short time.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And of course, like you've got this sweet moment with
- 13:23Speaker 2: his with Martha and his father when he goes home
- 13:29Speaker 2: for a brief time to like kind of bring him
- 13:32Speaker 2: back to just like, hey, this isn't your destiny is
- 13:33Speaker 2: whatever you want to be, right, And so we kind
- 13:37Speaker 2: of have a character arc really for him in a
- 13:39Speaker 2: way right in this film alone, which is really cool
- 13:43Speaker 2: and ultimately like comes out on the other side better
- 13:47Speaker 2: for it. And you mentioned a lot of characters, and
- 13:51Speaker 2: that's another thing that really impressed me was that we
- 13:54Speaker 2: get a lot of new characters in this movie. Like,
- 13:57Speaker 2: so in this movie is not even two hours, like
- 13:59Speaker 2: it's like an hour or in like fifty minutes or
- 14:01Speaker 2: something like. It's quick and if we get too it
- 14:05Speaker 2: breathes by, and we get a ton of characters. And
- 14:08Speaker 2: it didn't feel like over overdone, Like it didn't feel
- 14:12Speaker 2: like it was too much. They didn't force dialogue for
- 14:15Speaker 2: some of these characters. Like I was thinking afterwards, I
- 14:17Speaker 2: was like, man, like, I think Hot Girl had like
- 14:20Speaker 2: five lines. You know, she was there, but she wasn't
- 14:23Speaker 2: like didn't have a ton of speaking lines. Mister Terrific
- 14:26Speaker 2: didn't have a ton either. He had more.
- 14:28Speaker 3: I'd say he probably had the most of the three.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah. And then Guy Gardner, of course hilarious, Uh you know,
- 14:36Speaker 2: had his like what I would call James Gunny humor lines,
- 14:39Speaker 2: you know, like yeah, those like sprinkled in throughout. And
- 14:43Speaker 2: this is like, you know, we get this whole like
- 14:44Speaker 2: Justice Gang, which I can't wait until we don't call
- 14:47Speaker 2: them that anymore. It's so bad. It's such a terrible name.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Uh.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But like we get all these characters, you know, and
- 14:55Speaker 2: then we get we have Lex and then we have
- 14:57Speaker 2: we have his like Henchman, you know, and like so
- 15:01Speaker 2: many but didn't feel dumble.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Nick, Sorry, I was gonna bring this up, but since
- 15:06Speaker 1: you're already on it. The thing that excited me weirdly
- 15:10Speaker 1: the most in this movie watching it for the first time.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Uh okay, So, like we called it, we called that
- 15:17Speaker 1: Otis was gonna be in the movie.
- 15:18Speaker 3: We were right.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Do you think that there is even like a remote
- 15:22Speaker 1: chance that anyone else who has like any kind of
- 15:25Speaker 1: like movie review or podcast or was just like threading
- 15:29Speaker 1: tweeting a post on x whatever speculation about like their
- 15:32Speaker 1: guesses for them, did anybody else guess that Otis was
- 15:34Speaker 1: gonna be in this movie? I don't think so. I
- 15:36Speaker 1: didn't see that anywhere. Nobody cared about Otis. You know
- 15:39Speaker 1: who did?
- 15:39Speaker 3: We did.
- 15:40Speaker 1: We liked Otis and we wanted better for Otis, and
- 15:42Speaker 1: Otis got better. Otis got his justice. He was a
- 15:46Speaker 1: competent man, and he pushed the button. He had one job,
- 15:49Speaker 1: pushed the button, and he did it. Going back into
- 15:54Speaker 1: some other characters here, I guess you know the other
- 15:58Speaker 1: main character of this movie is Nick Halt or Lex Luthor's.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Lex Luthor, Nicholas Halts Lex Luthor.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 1: One of phenomenal performance by Nicholas. He's so good, so
- 16:12Speaker 1: good to me on at least on on the big screen.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Lex Luthor has never felt more dangerous. But he was
- 16:21Speaker 1: able to keep like that level of like anger and
- 16:24Speaker 1: cynicism and narcissism and.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Also be comical like he was.
- 16:31Speaker 1: He was still like this, he was still funny and
- 16:33Speaker 1: like he was still like cartoony too somehow. I'm specifically
- 16:37Speaker 1: referring to the thousands of monkeys that he's programmed to
- 16:42Speaker 1: rage on social media. On social media. Hilarious, so dumb.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I love it, yeah, dude, And that brings me to
- 16:49Speaker 2: like the Pocket Universe too, which was like really the
- 16:51Speaker 2: set design and how that they made that look with
- 16:53Speaker 2: CGI and set design or however they did it, Like
- 16:56Speaker 2: the Pocket Universe is pretty badass and such like a
- 17:01Speaker 2: what a way to go right off the bat, basically
- 17:04Speaker 2: right the first big entry in dCas in universe, we're
- 17:06Speaker 2: just gonna explore dimensions, you know, right right off to
- 17:09Speaker 2: get But you know, the the MCU makes that easy
- 17:15Speaker 2: to go with because the MCU has like we've explored
- 17:19Speaker 2: it so much now in the MCU that like I
- 17:21Speaker 2: didn't feel like it was like crazy or out of
- 17:23Speaker 2: the out of the blue or forced basically to a
- 17:28Speaker 2: certain degree.
- 17:29Speaker 1: That's that's because of James Gunn right, I mean right
- 17:32Speaker 1: right with the Gardens of the Galaxy movies, like he
- 17:35Speaker 1: helped normalize like that kind of science fiction in mainstream audiences.
- 17:41Speaker 3: You're so right to kick this this.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Universe experiment off with like something that's like kind of
- 17:46Speaker 1: pretty weird, right and to egest that like, yeah, audiences
- 17:49Speaker 1: aren't gonna be weirded out by that, Like it'll be fine.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just like this whole separate prison like in
- 17:55Speaker 2: the Pocket Universe, where's just like nobody there. You just
- 17:58Speaker 2: disappeared from, you know, our reality just in the pocketa Verse,
- 18:01Speaker 2: in the jail cell. It's crazy crazy. Uh So that
- 18:05Speaker 2: was that was like insane And yeah, to your point,
- 18:07Speaker 2: Lex Luthor, Nicholas whole incredible performance. He's just really awesome man,
- 18:12Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. And but yeah, like maybe he felt
- 18:17Speaker 2: comic bookie too, Like this whole movie was just like
- 18:19Speaker 2: it was a really great balance between like what's comic
- 18:22Speaker 2: book what are superhero movies today? How can we bridge
- 18:26Speaker 2: that gap and like make it work? And this is.
- 18:30Speaker 1: He Yeah, the comic bookiness of him is it was
- 18:37Speaker 1: really it was kind of realistic despite it being comic bookie,
- 18:41Speaker 1: like they just found like a good hybrid, and like
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'm talking about like there are certain exchanges between Superman
- 18:47Speaker 1: and it Lex that like these are absolutely like the
- 18:50Speaker 1: kind of exchanges that you would see in like Saturday
- 18:52Speaker 1: Morning cartoons or like in a in a comic book,
- 18:54Speaker 1: right where you know they're they're telling each other like
- 18:57Speaker 1: who they are as people, right, like Lex Luthor combating
- 19:02Speaker 1: Superman when Superman says, you know you're giving in to
- 19:05Speaker 1: your envy, and like Lex Luthor is, like, you don't think,
- 19:07Speaker 1: I don't know I'm envious. Of course I know that.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Of course I know that's what's driving me to be
- 19:12Speaker 1: better than you. I happen to be because I'm envious. Right, Yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I love that conversation. I love the conversation that Superman
- 19:19Speaker 1: talks about what his real power is.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Right to put one boot on the other.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Right, it's very very American, right strapped in those boots on, right,
- 19:28Speaker 1: But like it's it's a corny speech, but like it's
- 19:30Speaker 1: delivered in a pretty like realistic way, and I loved it.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And then freakin' single tear that comes from Nicholas Holt's
- 19:40Speaker 1: face after the world has turned against him. I loved
- 19:46Speaker 1: this idea. I loved that he's so jealous that he
- 19:50Speaker 1: gets like reduced to like just this childish moment, right,
- 19:53Speaker 1: Like it's just a single fat tear that comes out
- 19:56Speaker 1: of his eye.
- 19:57Speaker 3: He's broken, he is defeated. I love that.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that was awesome. Well deserved too, like he deserves
- 20:07Speaker 2: and like the and I think you touched on it
- 20:09Speaker 2: a second ago that the conversation he has with Lewis
- 20:12Speaker 2: Uh Lewis Lane when when the Justice Gang is like
- 20:16Speaker 2: fighting this interdimensional being. That what a great That was
- 20:20Speaker 2: a human humanizing moment, right, They like, how how are
- 20:23Speaker 2: you gonna humanize Superman? It's like you have this, you
- 20:25Speaker 2: have a conversation with this girl that he loves, right
- 20:29Speaker 2: and about who he is and what he stands for.
- 20:32Speaker 2: And she's given him ship for like believing in everybody
- 20:35Speaker 2: and thinking everything is beautiful and and how it's not
- 20:38Speaker 2: punk rock and to him it's like what if that
- 20:40Speaker 2: is the real punk rock? Right? And it's just like
- 20:42Speaker 2: hell yeah, James gott like give me some punk rock,
- 20:45Speaker 2: like notice is here? Like I love that. That was
- 20:50Speaker 2: one of my favorite parts of the movie, just like
- 20:51Speaker 2: the how all of a sudden Lewis Lane is like
- 20:53Speaker 2: just punk rock chick and giving him ship for the
- 20:56Speaker 2: punk rock he listens to and telling him it's pop
- 20:59Speaker 2: and not punk, and it's like, that's so funny.
- 21:01Speaker 1: That was That was a very real conversation, right, Like
- 21:05Speaker 1: I've definitely found myself in that conversation or overhearing that
- 21:09Speaker 1: conversation before.
- 21:10Speaker 3: It was.
- 21:11Speaker 1: It was neat, as you said, for it to be
- 21:13Speaker 1: kind of like the canvas for talking about two characters,
- 21:19Speaker 1: right and and demonstrating who these two characters are with
- 21:23Speaker 1: the argument of what's punk rock and what's not?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Yeah, No, you're you're right. That's that's super fun and
- 21:28Speaker 3: it's it's very James Gunn.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Transitioning a little bit to uh.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Okay, okay, cool, this is actually exactly what I wanted
- 21:36Speaker 1: to talk about. Uh huh, yeah, please go ahead, because.
- 21:39Speaker 2: You know Lewis Lane reporter at Clark Camp, reporter that newsroom,
- 21:45Speaker 2: like I we need where's that? We need that newsroom today?
- 21:50Speaker 2: Like where is it? Where is it?
- 21:52Speaker 3: Joe like dreams Nick, that's it?
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yeah, man, and I and I really loved like the
- 22:01Speaker 2: dynamic of that newsroom, right. I think that was just
- 22:03Speaker 2: like cast brilliantly and really fun. Jimmy Olsen is just
- 22:07Speaker 2: like the Ladies man we never knew the world needed.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I guess that was that was so unexpected, Like how
- 22:12Speaker 1: Head over Heels Eve is for Jimmy Olsen and I
- 22:16Speaker 1: love that, Like he just doesn't get it, like he
- 22:18Speaker 1: doesn't he's not into it, like he's uh before before
- 22:22Speaker 1: we get to Jimmy here, Jimmy and Eve, I don't
- 22:25Speaker 1: I don't want to transition from Rachel or well, yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 1: Rachel bros in hand Lewis Lane.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And journalism real quick.
- 22:33Speaker 1: So this is this is I'm too hype from this
- 22:36Speaker 1: movie to really pick out too many grapes, so I
- 22:39Speaker 1: would definitely need to watch it the second time before
- 22:41Speaker 1: I could really do that.
- 22:42Speaker 3: But yeah, I do have one.
- 22:45Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's with the movie or
- 22:47Speaker 1: if it's with the character of Lewis Lane here, because
- 22:50Speaker 1: like Lewis Lane, she's always.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Described as like plucky.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Lews Lane's plucky, like I think Rachel Brosnahan like absolutely
- 22:57Speaker 1: nails that, right. She She's always got a retort, right,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and she I appreciate that, like, you know, despite the
- 23:05Speaker 1: fact that she's cold or colder, like she can still
- 23:08Speaker 1: to a degree wear her heart on her sleeve, and
- 23:11Speaker 1: you know, it was a really great performance. So there's
- 23:13Speaker 1: this argument between Clark and Lois in her apartment where
- 23:19Speaker 1: she talks about Clark interviewing himself, which is absolutely unethical, right,
- 23:25Speaker 1: like absolutely messed up. That Clark is like okay with
- 23:29Speaker 1: doing this, like honestly, that might be his biggest law
- 23:32Speaker 1: as like Superman that like he thinks that that's acceptable journalism.
- 23:39Speaker 1: At least Peter Parker has the audacity to like take
- 23:42Speaker 1: a picture of himself and then like, as a freelance photographer, just.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Take the money and run. Right, He's not necessary.
- 23:47Speaker 1: He's a freelancer for the most part at the time
- 23:49Speaker 1: of you are at the Daily Planet, Daily Bugle, Daily Bugle.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Superman's of the Daily Planet. Jesus.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Anyway, So Lois calls him out on this and says
- 23:58Speaker 1: like it's unethical and that she wants to interview Superman,
- 24:03Speaker 1: and Superman says yes to this. I'm sorry, Lois, are
- 24:07Speaker 1: you or are you not sleeping with Superman? You gonna
- 24:10Speaker 1: sit on your pedestal and tell me that that's ethical, Okay, okay, girl, whatever, whatever, girl,
- 24:16Speaker 1: get your headline, get your front page.
- 24:17Speaker 3: You gotta do what you gotta do. It's it's a
- 24:19Speaker 3: doggy dog world out there. I love that.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Scene right where they're just they're they're writing there was
- 24:23Speaker 2: just done so well. They're going back and forth and
- 24:25Speaker 2: then he says something and he's like, but you can't
- 24:27Speaker 2: write that. She's like, we're on the record.
- 24:29Speaker 3: You have to say off the record. That was off
- 24:31Speaker 3: the record. You have to say that.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Basically teaching him how to be a real journalist. While Clark,
- 24:38Speaker 2: why don't you know this right?
- 24:42Speaker 3: Clark Kent bad reporter?
- 24:44Speaker 2: And I love the I love his voice changing too,
- 24:46Speaker 2: that he has the difference between Curt like when you
- 24:48Speaker 2: Clark Kenner when you SUPERMANI has a slight difference in
- 24:50Speaker 2: his voice tone.
- 24:51Speaker 1: It's like yeah, which speaks to I think this is
- 24:55Speaker 1: the funniest Superman has ever been on the big screen.
- 24:59Speaker 1: He was legit very funny, like in kind of like
- 25:02Speaker 1: a small way, right, like what you just said with
- 25:05Speaker 1: like the voices him like making his own sound bites, right,
- 25:09Speaker 1: like he's always thinking about like, well that would be
- 25:11Speaker 1: a good sound bite, right, the super shit being something
- 25:17Speaker 1: that actually gets under his skin, like like he's he
- 25:22Speaker 1: was comedic in a very again relatable way, like like
- 25:25Speaker 1: some of his like when he gets the heck being
- 25:27Speaker 1: out of him towards the end of the movie with
- 25:29Speaker 1: Ultra Man, mister Terrifick's like quip, missing around, get up here.
- 25:32Speaker 3: He's like, mo, mister, A lot of.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Important stuff, important stuff, man, a lot of important stuff. Yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 2: which to that point, So, so you were talking about
- 25:41Speaker 2: like things that bothered you that it's hard to say
- 25:43Speaker 2: because you enjoyed it so much the first time. There
- 25:44Speaker 2: is one thing that I can definitely point to the police. Yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 2: I questioned during it. And it's towards the end, right
- 25:49Speaker 2: where Lex has this big speech while they're kicking Superman's ass, right,
- 25:55Speaker 2: and they're using like a ton of technology to really
- 25:57Speaker 2: beat him, right, they're using a meta human, but they're
- 25:59Speaker 2: also using like a ton of technology to beat him.
- 26:02Speaker 2: And Lex is given the speech and the he's just
- 26:06Speaker 2: like one A, what A what A one a? And
- 26:08Speaker 2: he's just like beating the brakes off of him, right,
- 26:11Speaker 2: just a bunch of single punches. And in that moment,
- 26:15Speaker 2: Superman realizes that like the floating cameras essentially around the
- 26:23Speaker 2: what is the ultra Man that's beating his ass. Yeah
- 26:26Speaker 2: that Uh he's like, oh, is this how you're Is
- 26:29Speaker 2: this how you're monitoring my moves or or you know,
- 26:33Speaker 2: analyzing me basically, and then he like gets Crypto to
- 26:36Speaker 2: like wreck these drones essentially that are cameras that are
- 26:39Speaker 2: helping them, you know, give the directions on what to
- 26:43Speaker 2: do to beat him. And I'm just like it bothered
- 26:46Speaker 2: me a little bit that that wasn't realized earlier. You know,
- 26:50Speaker 2: it's just like, this is how you're going to beat
- 26:52Speaker 2: him by finally realizing that they're watching and analyzing your moves,
- 26:57Speaker 2: Like how did you not? How did you not noticed
- 27:00Speaker 2: that before? Like, I don't think the movie did a
- 27:02Speaker 2: great job making me believe that in the moment totally.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I think the movie does a bad job of representing
- 27:11Speaker 1: why him realizing this just now, like is happening just now?
- 27:16Speaker 1: And I think the reason here is it's because Lex
- 27:19Speaker 1: is talking to him right, whereas Lex wasn't openly talking
- 27:24Speaker 1: to him before. Like the channel that he was talking
- 27:26Speaker 1: to was only too ultraman. It wasn't like the before.
- 27:29Speaker 1: It wasn't like those things were broadcasting it to ultraman, right,
- 27:33Speaker 1: It was directly to ultra Man. Whereas now because he's
- 27:36Speaker 1: talking to Superman and he's giving commands, he's like confounding
- 27:39Speaker 1: the channels, right, they're happening both on that open channel,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and Superman is like, oh, so that's how you're doing it, right.
- 27:45Speaker 2: And Superman, here's him say one A and he gets
- 27:47Speaker 2: hit the head ten times as he says, and he realizes, oh,
- 27:49Speaker 2: he's controlling this guy right, Well, now I have to
- 27:52Speaker 2: but like.
- 27:53Speaker 3: So, like I agree, there's there's a step missing.
- 27:55Speaker 2: It's just there is a little step missing for sure. Yeah,
- 27:58Speaker 2: that's really my only thing that I can from first
- 28:00Speaker 2: time watching it, you know, like you said, maybe you know,
- 28:02Speaker 2: we watched it two or three more times. Maybe there's
- 28:03Speaker 2: like a little other things we can pick. But that's
- 28:05Speaker 2: a good thing, like the fact that, like we have
- 28:07Speaker 2: we'd have to go watch it again to have like
- 28:09Speaker 2: a bigger issue, right, Like it's really a sign of
- 28:13Speaker 2: a really well done film.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I also really appreciate that, for as heavily as Crypto
- 28:18Speaker 1: was marketed in this film, that he's not just shown
- 28:21Speaker 1: and and kind of forgotten actually being pretty important or
- 28:26Speaker 1: somewhat important for the climax, right, you know, saving the day.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I mean, I'd argue that this is actually a movie
- 28:32Speaker 2: about Crypto.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Cryptos movie.
- 28:34Speaker 1: This is Chrys movie for sure, this is Crypto's movie.
- 28:37Speaker 1: He is the hero of the whole movie.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Crypto and Superman should be the title of this film.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Oh what a what a great final shot, right, or
- 28:51Speaker 1: or almost final shot of the movie. I think it's
- 28:54Speaker 1: the mid credits scene where it's it's actually a tribute
- 28:58Speaker 1: to I think it's All Stars Superman, where it is
- 29:02Speaker 1: Superman and Cryptos sitting on the moon and watching an
- 29:04Speaker 1: earth rise together.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Right. That was super cool to watch.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Super cool to watch the Man super Dog, Uh watch
- 29:13Speaker 1: the earth rise like in a you know, realistic.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Way, right, Yeah, it was. It was neat.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I enjoy Clark's chemistry with Crypto. I like that it
- 29:23Speaker 1: is chaotic. Yeah, I like that he even refers to him.
- 29:27Speaker 1: He's like, he's not even a good dog, but you know,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna go find him anyway.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Right, And then we find out at the very very end,
- 29:32Speaker 2: right like after credit seeing that it's his what his
- 29:36Speaker 2: cousin's dog, it's Supergirl's dog.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a reason for the chaos and Supergirl
- 29:42Speaker 2: and the second the brief moment we get we realize
- 29:45Speaker 2: that she's just a drunk party teenage chick, Like she's
- 29:48Speaker 2: just going out getting hammered on red on planets with
- 29:51Speaker 2: red suns because we can't. They can't get drunk on
- 29:53Speaker 2: a planet with a yellow sun, like uh so, which
- 29:58Speaker 2: is a great fun way to enter Supergirl because it's
- 30:01Speaker 2: a very different take than I think what we've had
- 30:03Speaker 2: in some smaller some smaller like shows and things like that.
- 30:10Speaker 1: And so it was really cool to see Millie Alcock.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I didn't realize. I haven't followed the news on this.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I didn't realize that she was Supergirl. Yeah, so I
- 30:20Speaker 1: need to see House to the Dragons youngster a probably
- 30:22Speaker 1: my favorite actress in the House of the Dragons going
- 30:25Speaker 1: to be a huge part of this of this universe
- 30:27Speaker 1: moving forward.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Yeah, very exciting. So that'll be a cool, cool moment
- 30:30Speaker 2: when we get like more on screen time for her,
- 30:33Speaker 2: that'll be really awesome. And hopefully she took Crypto though,
- 30:36Speaker 2: so I don't I hope we get more Crypto, you know.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Like to me, to me, that was like obviously sathying
- 30:42Speaker 1: that we're absolutely getting more Crypto right like, because the
- 30:45Speaker 1: Supergirl movie comes out next year next summer June six,
- 30:49Speaker 1: twenty six.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Right, so we'll get a Supergirl and Cryptosa.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Stay maybe this is his universe.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, I'm with you there. It's Crypto's world. We're
- 30:57Speaker 2: just living in it. Man.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 31:02Speaker 1: We talked about we talked about David, we talked about Rachel.
- 31:04Speaker 1: We talked about Nicholas. He's minor role. But Nathan Fillion,
- 31:09Speaker 1: big name, big name playing, big character's playing Guy Gardner,
- 31:13Speaker 1: and Guy Gardner notorious for being just a huge piece
- 31:18Speaker 1: of ship when it comes to the Green Lanterns and like, yeah, yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 1: he's kind of scummy. He's kind of an asshole. Like
- 31:24Speaker 1: I appreciate it. I kind of appreciated that.
- 31:27Speaker 3: The Justice Gang like all kind of sucked to a degree.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Mister Terrific was definitely the best of them, but like
- 31:33Speaker 1: even he was like, dude, just kill this thing. Just
- 31:35Speaker 1: blind this thing. Are you kidding me?
- 31:37Speaker 3: Superman? Are you kidding me?
- 31:39Speaker 2: Right? Yeah, that's I enjoyed the Justice Gang. I hate
- 31:46Speaker 2: the name so much that they almost.
- 31:48Speaker 3: You're out of the gang. You're out of the gang, dude,
- 31:50Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I don't want to be I don't want to be
- 31:51Speaker 2: a part of it. I don't want to be a
- 31:52Speaker 2: part of that, but they almost feel like, man, what
- 31:56Speaker 2: am I looking for? They're like, you know, they're like
- 32:00Speaker 2: your b superheroes, you know, like and so, which they are, but.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Like it has something to say to use her.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Sucks the suck guy.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Hey guy, I'm not better.
- 32:15Speaker 2: There's a comic y thing about them, you know. And
- 32:17Speaker 2: even though they were, they were badass in their own way.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Who would you say was like the most like James
- 32:24Speaker 1: Gun character in the entire movie?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Man, that's a great question.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Like for for an example, like I'm looking at like
- 32:39Speaker 1: in Guardens of the Galaxy, I'm thinking of uh, like
- 32:44Speaker 1: Peter Quill is probably the most James Gun character in
- 32:46Speaker 1: that movie, right, Uh Suiticide Squad, I'd probably pick and
- 32:52Speaker 1: I picked peace Maker actually maybe either speaking which she's
- 32:59Speaker 1: in this movie. Uh splers. That was a delightful little surprise.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I I love that James gunn uh because like, of
- 33:07Speaker 1: course Peacemaker has survived the last Universe and will be
- 33:11Speaker 1: in this one that was James Gun's movie. Like like
- 33:14Speaker 1: he's like, yeah, of course peace Maker's gonna survive, Like
- 33:16Speaker 1: he's my guy.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Yeah, he's great.
- 33:18Speaker 2: You gotta look gotta look out for your own No,
- 33:22Speaker 2: I don't know, like maybe maybe like not Jimmy I
- 33:24Speaker 2: almost want to say Jimmy Elson, but just because of
- 33:27Speaker 2: how like like unaware he was, you know, there's like
- 33:32Speaker 2: something about it.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Like that, Yeah, where he.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Is compared to like almost like Dragson away from the
- 33:38Speaker 2: the awareness perspective on.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Like see for that reason, Oh, Dragon choice too, I know,
- 33:44Speaker 1: for that reason I would have said Metamorpho.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Ah, Okay, we've not talked about.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Right, well, I mean but there's no like lines really,
- 33:53Speaker 2: you know, it's.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Just yeah, he's just kind of there is a plot device, right, yeah,
- 33:58Speaker 1: you know, help Clark get out of help Clark get
- 34:01Speaker 1: out of well actually, okay, he's used the several different
- 34:04Speaker 1: plot devices keep Clark in the Pocket dimension, create a
- 34:08Speaker 1: challenge for Clark to get out of the Pocket dimension,
- 34:11Speaker 1: get him out of the Pocket dimension, and then save
- 34:14Speaker 1: the people at the end, right, like he's just he's
- 34:16Speaker 1: used his one plot tool from one scene to the next. Yeah,
- 34:21Speaker 1: and he has a very like charming line about Justice
- 34:24Speaker 1: Gang at the end.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yes, cool name, cool name, you're it.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:31Speaker 1: The fact that Bradley Cooper was in this movie as
- 34:34Speaker 1: Joe l and Jerel is a monster.
- 34:38Speaker 2: The equivalent to was it Marlon Brando?
- 34:43Speaker 1: What Marlon Brando who is like, you know, like such
- 34:46Speaker 1: a great alien father and he's like, I'm doing this
- 34:48Speaker 1: for my son, and like jorre L Bradley Cooper is
- 34:51Speaker 1: like dominate them.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's maybe.
- 34:55Speaker 2: The other thing that bothered me a little bit was
- 34:57Speaker 2: that like that wasn't actually a fake video, that it
- 35:00Speaker 2: was actually like real that that's what they said.
- 35:02Speaker 3: That is kind of wild. Yeah, that like we're just
- 35:04Speaker 3: doing that.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Yeah, because like I don't think did they make that up?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Like that's not.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Well, That's why I say in the beginning, I don't
- 35:11Speaker 1: know if that's a comic book thing. I don't know
- 35:13Speaker 1: if there is a comic book thing out there where
- 35:16Speaker 1: that happens. I'm assuming there must be, because a lot
- 35:22Speaker 1: of all not I mean, there is some originality of
- 35:24Speaker 1: this movie. I don't want to say that there was
- 35:26Speaker 1: nothing original, but like there's a lot of like plot
- 35:28Speaker 1: threads that harken to famous Superman comics, right that one.
- 35:32Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with the L's being the L's were
- 35:37Speaker 1: broadcasts on their planet because like you know, they were
- 35:40Speaker 1: altruists because they were.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Right, So that that was really shocking, and like, I
- 35:47Speaker 2: would have been more believable if it was like a
- 35:49Speaker 2: fake video, but then I guess with how good tech
- 35:54Speaker 2: is in Metropolis, like they were, the concept there, writing
- 35:58Speaker 2: wise would have been like, well, everyone knew that it
- 36:01Speaker 2: was a doctrine video, so we can't.
- 36:05Speaker 1: If it's not real, right, I think I think you
- 36:09Speaker 1: need you need this to be real for two reasons. One,
- 36:13Speaker 1: you need it you need no debate from the public
- 36:17Speaker 1: once they see it, right that they have to be
- 36:21Speaker 1: immediately like oh my god, like that, yeah, that course
- 36:25Speaker 1: that's real. Superman's evil, right, So like that immediately creates
- 36:28Speaker 1: conflict the whole world against Superman.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 36:30Speaker 1: And then second and more importantly, because of the pictures
- 36:34Speaker 1: Eve takes at the end, because now these have to
- 36:37Speaker 1: have credibility for being real too, and there's no argument
- 36:41Speaker 1: that lex is a tool and sucks, right, Like we
- 36:44Speaker 1: need it to be fast, you know.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, that's a great point writing wise, like needing everyone,
- 36:50Speaker 2: like the audience to like be on board with not
- 36:53Speaker 2: questioning the evidence found throughout the film basically, right, like
- 36:57Speaker 2: the evidence throughout the film is all true, Yeah, right, right,
- 37:01Speaker 2: so but not maybe not the but the audio, but
- 37:05Speaker 2: the the the world's reaction might not be true or
- 37:11Speaker 2: correct based on the evidence, right, Like what I meanwis
- 37:15Speaker 2: like you know, they're all immediately like oh Superman hates this.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Now it's like that wasn't correct, Like, but they believed
- 37:20Speaker 2: what they were, you know, they jumped at the conclusion
- 37:23Speaker 2: without seeing like is he actually gonna fall in line
- 37:26Speaker 2: with what his parents said or not?
- 37:27Speaker 1: Right?
- 37:27Speaker 2: Like whereas and then with Lax at the end, it's like,
- 37:30Speaker 2: oh my god, he's like he's you know, he's actually
- 37:33Speaker 2: a crooked, crooked person and like doing the wrong thing
- 37:36Speaker 2: and like that was the correct way to you because
- 37:38Speaker 2: that was true. But yeah, that's a great point about
- 37:41Speaker 2: like believing the evidence right away and having it like
- 37:43Speaker 2: push the film so you're not like questioning as it goes.
- 37:47Speaker 2: But yeah, interesting choice.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, very Yeah.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I guess I go back to because I keep skipping
- 37:54Speaker 1: over him every time we bring him up. Jimmy Olsen
- 37:58Speaker 1: just be being resistible to like this crazy hot person
- 38:04Speaker 1: who hangs out with billionaires.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Well he was irresistible to every to all women.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's actually that's true.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Man, He's a ladies man, like hilarious, like ladies man
- 38:17Speaker 2: with the.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Like would you call him the most aware ladies.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Man, the most unassuming unaware ladies man for sure, Like
- 38:25Speaker 2: he's just like And he was so frightened of Eve
- 38:28Speaker 2: and how much she was like a clinger that he
- 38:30Speaker 2: thought about not saving the world multiple times at the end,
- 38:32Speaker 2: Like he was like, no, if I want to hang
- 38:35Speaker 2: out with you this weekend enough to save everybody, I
- 38:36Speaker 2: might I might prefer to die.
- 38:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna say something that will probably be the weirdest
- 38:42Speaker 1: thing I've ever said on this show.
- 38:45Speaker 3: I wanted to see her toes.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I'm a little I'm a little disappointed that after all that,
- 38:52Speaker 1: we did not get to see why he was so
- 38:54Speaker 1: weirded out by her mutant toe.
- 38:56Speaker 3: He named her mutant toes on his bone.
- 38:59Speaker 2: That's so much me, dude, That's hilarious.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Man, How bad could it be? Bad?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Just like I don't I would rather see the world
- 39:12Speaker 1: burn than hang out with this person again.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Yeah, hilarious. Loved love that. And then I also really
- 39:20Speaker 2: love that he's like the one who breaks the story
- 39:22Speaker 2: at the end, right, He's like he gets all the
- 39:25Speaker 2: data and he's he's the one who actually posts the
- 39:27Speaker 2: story to uh to get the truth out there, which
- 39:32Speaker 2: is really cool. Collective great collective room. Also the only
- 39:37Speaker 2: other thing too is uh Lewis Lane being able to
- 39:39Speaker 2: actually fly mister Terrific ship. Like he's like, it's really intuitive,
- 39:42Speaker 2: you'll be fine, and it's like okay, sure.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 39:47Speaker 2: But it's small stuff. That's the thing. Like anything, really
- 39:50Speaker 2: most of the stuff was small.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Really was you know what it is.
- 39:53Speaker 1: It's like some of the small conveniences that Gun needs
- 39:58Speaker 1: for the plot to just You've got me. It's like
- 40:01Speaker 1: it's very like hand wavy, like it's like yeah, yah, yeah.
- 40:03Speaker 3: It makes sense. Keep going, keep going.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Yeah they all believe it. Yeah yeah, keep going, keep going.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Like like that's like a thing throughout the movie.
- 40:09Speaker 3: He's like, yeah, just keep going.
- 40:11Speaker 2: It's a super it's a world like, yeah, we're taking liberties.
- 40:14Speaker 2: It's a superhero world. We're taking liberty. Enjoy the film
- 40:17Speaker 2: or leave.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Right we're having Are you having fun?
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yes? I am.
- 40:24Speaker 3: I also have a personal question for you.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, hit me.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Do you get misty eyed at all? No, that's because
- 40:32Speaker 1: it's because you're a real tough guy.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm not And I'm not dude, I cried
- 40:40Speaker 3: like three times. You Yeah, like I got misty eyed.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I got missy eyed twice, and like I like ugly
- 40:46Speaker 1: cried like once.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah.
- 40:51Speaker 1: So like I got misty eyed at uh at the
- 40:55Speaker 1: conversation with Jonathan Kent when he's talking about you know
- 40:59Speaker 1: who you are, the choices you make, right, it's a
- 41:01Speaker 1: good father son moment.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Love that.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Even if that's a conversation that we've seen in cinema
- 41:05Speaker 1: like a hundred different times, I thought it was done
- 41:06Speaker 1: pretty well. I got missy eyed when that woman is
- 41:11Speaker 1: driving away and the building is coming down in Superman.
- 41:13Speaker 1: You know, it was first of all, really great to
- 41:15Speaker 1: see Superman saving people, even squirrels.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Saved a squirrel. Love that Superman looks out for the
- 41:20Speaker 3: little guy.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Love, yes, save the squirrel, saves this woman.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Woman looks back.
- 41:25Speaker 1: There's a bunch of dust everywhere, but there in the sun,
- 41:28Speaker 1: like you see Superman, He's still there. He's the guy
- 41:30Speaker 1: who can do it all. I got misty eyed that
- 41:32Speaker 1: I wasn't expecting that the part I knew I was
- 41:34Speaker 1: gonna freaking cry as a little kid who's hoisting the
- 41:37Speaker 1: flag in the freaking war zone, right, and he's praying
- 41:40Speaker 1: to God that Superman's gonna come. That that got me,
- 41:44Speaker 1: That got that got me. Good about that though, I'm
- 41:49Speaker 1: glad I said this because I forgot. I think this
- 41:51Speaker 1: is actually something I was like truly disappointed in. And
- 41:54Speaker 1: I don't know if the kid was disappointed. But when
- 41:55Speaker 1: Superman doesn't actually come and it's Guy Gardner who shows up,
- 41:58Speaker 1: that is funny. But I was like, God, that kid
- 42:01Speaker 1: got so shafted, Like give you that kid, You're like,
- 42:03Speaker 1: you know what?
- 42:04Speaker 2: I think I would have rather just like been taken over,
- 42:07Speaker 2: like you're not Superman.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Man.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Although although Guy Gardner coming in there and just being
- 42:14Speaker 1: an absolute dick in saving the day, awesome that we
- 42:19Speaker 1: got two superhero middle fingers in ten days from both
- 42:26Speaker 1: like competitors. We got one in Iron Hard and we
- 42:28Speaker 1: got one from gun Partner and Superman.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah, they're getting We're getting feisty on the superhero
- 42:33Speaker 2: we're getting. We're getting.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Yeah, what would uh you know before we close out here?
- 42:44Speaker 3: What would you say? Is like the thing that will
- 42:45Speaker 3: really stick with you about James Gunn Superman.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Honestly, it's it's the portrayal. It's how they portrayed this
- 42:57Speaker 2: version of a Superman and Clark Kent, Like it's the
- 43:00Speaker 2: way that they humanized him, and how freaking cool the
- 43:04Speaker 2: flying scenes were as well, Like they really nailed technology
- 43:09Speaker 2: these days, like is great and sometimes it can be
- 43:13Speaker 2: like not used properly. They crushed it. The flying sequences
- 43:17Speaker 2: looked freaking so cool. And David Cornsweet did a Finn
- 43:22Speaker 2: was just phenomenal as Clark Kent phenomenal as Superman, and yeah,
- 43:26Speaker 2: they just it really sticks with me how well they
- 43:30Speaker 2: humanized him but also made him like extremely powerful and
- 43:35Speaker 2: made him vulnerable at the same time, like really freaking fantastic,
- 43:39Speaker 2: and just it was just that's what sticks with me,
- 43:42Speaker 2: just how well how well performed and written this Superman was.
- 43:48Speaker 1: It's a very tight narrative for sure. Yeah, and I
- 43:52Speaker 1: used to agree with you. It's there's a lot of
- 43:55Speaker 1: heart in this movie, and it's nice to see Superman
- 44:00Speaker 1: uh portrayed. Is the way I think he was always
- 44:02Speaker 1: intended to be, right, like, you know, the beginon of
- 44:04Speaker 1: hope and how hard that can be to be the
- 44:08Speaker 1: begon of especially when the world goes as dark as
- 44:10Speaker 1: it does. Yeah, that that was awesome thing that'll stick
- 44:15Speaker 1: with me. Exactly what you said portrayal of Superman.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Uh.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Also, it's really nice to have color in our superhero movies.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Very colorful film, Thank you, James Gunn. Super colorful, super colorful.
- 44:28Speaker 1: The alien that he's not fighting, that the Justice Gang
- 44:31Speaker 1: is fighting while him and Lois have a nice talk,
- 44:34Speaker 1: probably one of the more colorful scenes. And it's it's
- 44:36Speaker 1: a great scene just all over. It looks great, sounds great,
- 44:39Speaker 1: It's just great.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Man.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Go Superman, Go watch it on the big go watch it.
- 44:43Speaker 3: The second time.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Hell yeah, would you read it out of five? Oh yes, sir,
- 44:52Speaker 2: four point seventy five, I'll go, I'll go.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Four to five.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Uh one, because of just some of the hand wavy
- 45:03Speaker 1: stuff that I'm sure I'll notice more as I watched
- 45:05Speaker 1: it a second or third time, but definitely within the
- 45:09Speaker 1: range of four, because four was the best robot and
- 45:12Speaker 1: and that guy ruled also played by Alan Tudike, who
- 45:17Speaker 1: is freaking K two in Rogue one.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Really yeah, that's cool. Yeah, but show some respect for Gary,
- 45:27Speaker 2: why don't you? Man?
- 45:30Speaker 1: If only Gary was a number I could have, but
- 45:34Speaker 1: I rate it gary point five.
- 45:36Speaker 4: There you go, Gary point five, four point seventy five
- 45:40Speaker 4: and a four point five, not to not too bad
- 45:42Speaker 4: for the first iteration of the DC from James gun Well,
- 45:46Speaker 4: that's a review.
